The situation is getting volatile, to say the least. With your contact proving to be a traitor, it’s only a matter of time before things heat up. You can’t let any possible issue fester, and while it’s as likely as not they’re related, you don’t want any loose ends. If Shirogane Hina, the supposed Girl That Knows About Everything In This School can help, then you’ll do everything in your power to convince her to do so. "Let's say that Karasu is a puzzle box that has been on display for quite a while now. I think I'm close to solving it, and I'm going to share the answers with you, should you help me."

She merely meets your gaze; sharp and yet uncertain. It’s clear that Karasu is an enigma for all their influence, and getting information about them no doubt would be a key to discovering a way to fight back against them.

There’s a moment of tension as neither of you yield; yourself in silent insistence, her in silent judgement. Then, she speaks. “Your name?”

“Hayashi Chiharu,” you say immediately.

“...mmm.” She sighs. Then beckons you closer.

There’s practically no space between her and your ear when she whispers, and it’s in the tiniest still clear voice possible:

“Shirogane Yumi. In school, Ito Yumi. My older sister.” Oh...that’s...something. “She’s...not who she was. If you can help, please. Her shoes are muddy when she comes home late on Fridays and have cut grass and rose petals on them. That’s all I know.”

Ah.

She drops back, and you can only think to ask more questions. “Wait, when did-”

“I answered your question,” she suddenly says at a normal voice, attitude immediately cold once again. “I’m not answering any more. Now leave me to read in peace.” She sticks her nose back in the book, and you get the feeling she’s going to ignore any more attempts at conversation. For now…

not by me. just saving others checking.
not sure how sup's system works. never uploaded a thread. interface says it's a request interface, maybe someone needs to check the uploads before they appear?
it also uses the same thread numbers, so maybe it refuses if people try to add the same number multiple times, even if it hasn't appeared yet?

what tags did you use? I notice the ones that appeared are the same as last time, but in a slightly different order.
what if any error message did you get?
>>
>>3956757
I don’t know specifically what it was, but here’s what the page said when I tried it...

>>
>>3956613
That changed about a year ago, at least for some boards. Threads that fall off are still accessible and archivable for a few days.

>>3956757
It's pretty straightforward to archive threads. If it's already been archived, as far as I can tell it won't change the title or description, but sometimes adds any new tags, and will tell you it was already archived. This is deliberate, as long ago an archive only saved the thread at the moment of archival, and the only way to update it was to re-archive.

Well. Best thing to do right now, you suppose, would be to continue the trail. You know the name of the Karasu’s leader- one of the girls that met you day one. Honestly, it’s clever of her to have someone else come in as the lead talker. Keeps suspicion off of her, clearly. Problem is, you’re not sure how else to find her- the school’s largely deserted now, barring some clubs, and you have no clue where Yumi might be. Just walking up and asking a Karasu member has even odds; they might not know at all, or they might be suspicious as to why...then again, they might just be excited and think you’re wanting to join or something.

Oh don't worry about that, Lori will definitely teach her how interrogation is done. Fact or fiction will be helpful.

Also I'm glad we didn't go full power on any one, just sticking to melee and non-lethal techniques. The shadow mafia may know about us but they don't know most of the trios techniques. also we should definitely use Gartoum now for watchdog or recon duties, it's dangerous for any of the trio to go out.

Well...might be best to do it roundabout, if only to keep suspicion or eyes in general off of you until necessary. But who to ask? Hmmm…thinking about it, there’s not really a better answer than ‘do what you did before’ that comes to mind right now. Back to the Photography Club it is…

“Hm? You’re back?” Yuri and the others seem surprised when you enter their clubroom- they’re all sifting through various photographs for one reason or another. Seems like they’re in the middle of selecting for some reason… “Did something happen?” she asks, and you’re brought back to the situation at hand.

You shake your head. “No, it’s fine. I’m just wondering if any of you have seen Ito Yumi, or maybe know where she is?”

The group look at each other briefly, but it’s the bigger boy that speaks up first. “I think I saw her leaving, today. Dunno where, though. Anyone else know?”

A round of head shakes. “I’ve never seen her outside of school,” Yuri admits.

The pigtailed girls has an apologetic look on her face. “I saw her once last week, around a cafe on Third Street, but she was punishing someone, I think. Had a couple other members there, too. Nothing recently, though. Sorry.”

Hm...well, nothing there. “It’s fine. Thank you.”

As for the Occult Club...well, you DO notice that they seem to be studying some books as opposed to trying to summon something using a shoddy circle, with several unread sitting nearby and the lot of them with notebooks and paper actually recording information. From what you can tell, several of them have to do with Mesopotamian history, others with ancient pagan rituals...well, if nothing else, they ARE dedicated. “Hm? Ah, our would-be advisor. Have you come to investigate further into the ways of piercing our reality for something greater? Your advice the other day was sound, and we are already coming across fascinating new information that may prove useful,” mask-boy states.

“Well, not quite as such. I’m looking for Ito Yumi- one of the members of Karasu.” you explain.

He just scoffs. “What reason could you EVER have to deal with those terrible brutes?”

It’s the gothic girl that speaks up next. “Well...hopefully you’re not planning on joining, are you?”

“Not at all,” you confirm.

“Mmm…” it’s the gothic boy who speaks up next. “Well...me and my sis saw her when she was leaving school. Her boss was mentioning something about meeting up after they got done with whatever they were doing. Heard Ito mention something about picking up some ‘supplies’ and being back before long. Maybe you can catch her at the gate?”

Hm. Well, it’s the best option you’ve got for now. Maybe you should just hang out in front for now…

Fortunately, they weren’t wrong, and after maybe fifteen minutes, you see the shape of the girl you recognize as Ito Yumi walking towards you down the sidewalk, a bag of something in her hand...however, you notice that her countenance is pale, her eyes sunken. You’d say she seems sickly, but her stride is even, her pupils are steady, and there’s no deep breaths or anything else to tell that she’s ill.

Especially with how her eyes lock on to you, and even from this distance you can tell they’re smoldering with disdain- a far cry from yesterday. She stops some yards from you, however, and is quick to drop the bag next to the perimeter wall. “So. What are you doing here? Business with me, I’m guessing?”

“In a way,” you confirm. If you’re going to talk her down any, then it’s best to get a bit...tricky. It’s not always the nicest way of things, buuut...even you realize that sometimes you’ve got to push some buttons or pull some puppet strings to get the best result for everyone. “I’m curious, how’s Ayane’s sister? Is she finally released from her punishment, yet?”

There’s a small smirk that crosses her face when you ask that, and you notice that her posture slackens just a bit- seems like she might’ve been mentally preparing for something else. “No. Might be by this weekend, though. She’s repenting rather well for her crimes. If you have any questions about it, though...”

“Well, I don’t, but your sister does.” That shuts her up immediately, and her eyes go wide in surprise. “And you know how much she values answers. Namely, she wants to know why you’re doing this, instead of spending time with her.”

“How the HELL did you-” she starts, but you’re not finished.

“She misses you,” you say simply, watching her face twist into something like annoyance and confusion. “Much like Ayane misses her sibling. Really, I do not believe this situation truly benefits anyone. It just brings paranoia and heartache. Can’t you see that?” If she could, then perhaps she would be able to show her sibling the love she clearly misses. Or perhaps-

“Ugh. You know what? You want to talk? Fine. But not here. Follow me.” She picks up her bag again, and this time walks right past the school. You’re not sure what’s about to happen, but you’re on your guard as you fall in behind her, the sun setting over the horizon and bathing everything in a harsh orange glow.

It’s barely a block before she speaks up again. “How’d you find out? That she was my sister, I mean? Did she tell you? I bet she did. She acts like she’s quiet and meek but she loves showing off how much she knows. She’s smart and she knows it. Not that I don’t know things, myself.” You pass another couple of buildings. “Like I know you’re no ordinary transfer student.” Hm?

“What do you mean by that?” you ask, but she doesn’t answer, instead simply continuing to walk before turning a corner. You’re already not feeling great about this, and a disturbing thought about her statement comes into your head as you follow her onto a side street with construction on it for some new building. It’s really more of an alleyway, honestly...but then she stops at the high fence and pulls a piece of the protective/privacy canvas back. “We talk in here.”

Your instincts are screaming at you right now. This isn’t good.

Okay, enough of this. While you’d seen fit to trust her up until now, this smells of an obvious trap. “No. I’m afraid this is as far as I go. It’s plenty private here for simple words.” And you’re going to let her know that, along with something else important, as you put on a planative expression. "Look, she was just worried, and now so am I. You look terrible right now. Have you seen yourself in a mirror lately?"

She blinks once. “I feel fine. If there’s anything about me that looks off, I’ll fix it- not that it matters for you.”

That again. “And again, what’s that suppose to mean?” you ask, hiking your backpack up a bit- where it’d be a bit faster to grab something out.

Suddenly, she grits her teeth, and her eyes practically light up in anger as she points a finger. “I know what you are. You’re a magical girl here to dismantle the Karasu, and ruin everything we’ve kept working for us! You AND your little friends!”

...ah. Well, that came out of...well, not nowhere, you’d had your suspicions, after all. Still, you didn’t quite expect her to come out and admit she knew about magic and whatnot. Although that did leave an issue… “So, how’d you know?” ...and that’s not the girl that’s trying to sneak up behind you.

“The Karasu hears EVERYTHING,” she growls out. “We have eyes and ears everywhere, and if we see or hear something we don’t like…” her eyes flicker over your shoulder for just a moment, and that’s the giveaway. “We have talons, too.”

You duck and move forward as soon as you hear the gravel shift behind you; you blow past Yumi as SOMETHING crashes into the ground behind you, causing a sudden spray of dust and stone to go flying and mess your outfit up as you quickly turn around.

Kanna Rikudo is standing there with an ogre’s club embedded into the ground. She doesn’t seem much beyond annoyed, however, as you meet her eyes and she hefts the weapon back up. “Well, that sucks. Was hoping it’d be a clean knockout, but...guess we’re doing this now.” She looks askance at Yumi. “You should go. This might get dangerous for you. You’re not on a level to handle her yet.”

“Yes ma’am,” she says quickly, giving a quick bow, and a glare to you before she runs off.

Kanna just sighs as she rapidly leaves. “Was really hoping we could be friends…but after hearing you’re just after our heads? Can’t say that’s happening.”

Well, rats. Guess they’re stepping things up quicker than you anticipated. Although you can scent no one else at the moment, that doesn’t mean that someone can’t show up, or perhaps those strange shadows rising to distract you. Regardless, first priority right now is dealing with this girl.

Adding to this, Karasu is a symptom of a greater problem. Dealing with them won't solve anything, when the darkness has been dispelled karasu will naturally disappear as well. You’re not as confident about her chances as she is, but nonetheless you didn’t last this long by carelessness. Still, as you see her prepare to fight, you can’t help but be remorseful. With all this, you can clearly see what they wanted. But they don’t see what they HAVE. “You are not a target- and neither is Karasu as a whole,” you elaborate. “I was investigating on my own.”

“Last one’s a fat lie,” Kanna says bluntly. “We know for a fact you’re under orders here.”

Drat. “Well, be that as it may, we are here to end the pall of darkness,” you insist. “Really, you can't be blind to what has happened to the city because of it! Apathy, melancholy, depression, violence. All of this considered the norm now, but it’s no way to live when the cause is artificial and could be removed with but some effort.”

“You sure about that?” she asks wryly. “It’s not really so easy as you might think.”

“I never said it would be,” you point out. “Nothing worthwhile tends to be.”

Kanna simply shakes her head. “Well, think what you want, but compared to what we had according to the boss, this is way better.”

So even she isn’t sure? “According to her? Did you ever consider her views might be clouded? Or worse, that she’s manipulating you?” If this Shadow Queen has been pulling their strings, you’re going to have to figure out how to cut them… “What do YOU think of how things are compared to how they were?”

She pauses for a moment, considering the question. “Honestly...couldn’t say. Back then, I didn’t exactly notice much. But now...well, I like to think I’m at least in a good position. But, we’re talkin’ a bit much, so…”

She charges, and your Shinai is formed to meet her- her first swing is a wide, horizontal thing that you duck under, and you quickly strike with an overhead swing- nothing heavy, a strike to tap and disorient her at least...which is why you’re surprised when she powers through it and keeps her momentum, going with the strike pushing her down to shift her swing low and take your feet out; your leap backwards just barely clears as you feel the edge of the iron weapon tap your heel and force you to take a second to reorient yourself- a second she sees as an opening and charges again.

Her strikes are wild, and only generally focused, clearly not used to fighting as such. She has the bare basics down- don’t take your eyes off the enemy, follow through properly- but beyond that it seems like she doesn’t have much strategy beyond ‘Swing and use my strength to carry the day.’ A shame- if she was more than a glorified guard, she’d have likely had the opportunity to learn more to combat.

Two more swings blow the wind past you- she’s still got the same tells as any other brute that you’ve fought, despite her size. It takes her comparatively long to wind up, and she’s got a lot of recovery on her swings- had you been fighting to kill, she would have been decapitated after the second swing. But that just seems a waste. “Damnit, hold still!” She goes for another overhead, and that’s your opening.

You slip to the side, and she tries to twist the downswing into a wide blow, throwing her club behind her in an attempt to hit, but you’re too low; the club sails over, and you shift just a bit more; enough to get behind her and get an arm around her neck. “H-hey! Let go!”

In situations like this, it’s better to make certain that the threat is neutralized as fast as possible. However, there are multiple ways to achieve this. One is killing them. The other is unconsciousness. Knocking someone unconscious is always risky business, but considering her heightened toughness via being a magical girl…

A combination of loss of oxygen and a pop to the head seems to do the trick, although not for very long, you suspect. But, can’t ruminate too long. You’re quick to ring your friends. “This is March,” Miranda says. “What’s up?”

“I was assaulted,” you say quickly. “By one Kanna Rikudo; the bodyguard to Marie Okada. She used one of the Karasu members to lure me in.”

“Crap. Speaking of, I found something out about that. But I’ll tell after you’re done,” she notes.

“Right, well, fortunately, the fight wasn’t hard; she’s largely an amateur when it comes to direct combat. However, I managed to render her unconscious. I’m hoping to-”

“Wait, you knocked her out? That’s good. Can you keep her under?” she asks.

You’re a bit surprised. “Pardon? You think she’ll have good information?”

“Hoping for it. That, plus we think it’s high time we draw the Queen out of hiding, and we’ve got a plan for it- and for dealing with our traitor. If what April said was right, then this Kanna is an insider. We’ll have kicked the hornet’s nest with this one, so we might as well make the most of it.”

How can we resolve this peacefully? I'm just thinking with how fast the violence escalated, will any of the shadow squad even listen to Izumi's reasoning?
or we can just go the Nanoha route of befriending by beating the shit out of them?
>>
>>3959519
>How can we resolve this peacefully?
that's literally impossible under the contract that we have and because izumi doesn't change sides.
>>
>>3959519
We had a chance, but it's near none now that Arc blew the lid. The best outcomes when this is over are grey at best.
>>
>>3959539
>We had a chance
when? the contract clearly states that we have to bring to the organization the head of the shadow queen and there is no way that we could have gotten to her without a fight.
>>
>>3959555
This. Even if people tried to minimize killing they would've still needed to kill the main target. not bring her in, convert, but kill. So violence was all be inevitable.
>>
>>3959519
Why do anons keep wanting to resolve this peacefully? This is an investigation and assassination contract, with hangers on being worth bonuses. There is no 'talking things out' option. There never was.
>>
anons, I'm asking IF there is a way to solve it peacefully. I didn't say we have to do it (in fact I'm for killing the shadow queen), I'm just thinking about Izumi's thinking of saving people from the corruption and if there is a small chance of peaceful resolution. which I know there is no way those girls will bend unless the dice and silver tongue shenanigans
>>
>>3959567
Right? Yet there are so many people wanting to try to 'redeem' the targets. I suspect it's because they're young girls and/or they watched lots of anime. Realistically I think every time people pick the convincing option on the primary or secondary targets they're just delaying the fight or giving enemies opportunities to attack first.
>>

>I'm just thinking about Izumi's thinking of saving people from the corruption and if there is a small chance of peaceful resolution
we're already doing that. It was izumi's idea to not kill arc, she has peacefully dealt with most of the encounters she has been in and she brought miranda and lorelei because she knows she can't be trusted with dealing the killing blow to the shadow queen. she's doing the best that can be done at the moment.

“Alright.” You don’t like how things are advancing, but...you did bring them along for a reason. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean you didn’t expect it. “Where do I bring her?”

“Old base, the warehouse. Still have defenses set up there, and it’s got less places to ambush and hide in.” You suppose you can’t really deny those advantages. “Once she’s tied up, we’ll enact part 2 of the plan.”

“Right,” you agree, even if perhaps your heart isn’t entirely into it. “Is she going to come to any harm?”

You can hear a light sigh on the other end, and part of you wants to complain about it, but before you can even begin to voice your thoughts, she answers. “It’s not a sure thing, but she might. It entirely depends on how well the plan goes, but no, we’re not INTENDING to hurt her outright. So you can at least calm down a little about that.”

Ah. Figures that she’d realize your concern. Well...nothing else to do, then. “Alright. I’m on my way.”

“Right. We’ve got a call to make in the meantime,” she responds. “See you there.” The light dims, and you pick up your ‘cargo’ and prepare to move quickly. You suppose that the lack of people out and about during the evening and at night is good in this situation, as you proceed to hit the rooftops…

As you land near the old warehouse, you’re met with Lorelei casually leaning outside. “Yo! You made it. Guessin’ March has told you things are about to get heated, huh?”

“She has,” you confirm as you adjust the unconscious girl in your arms. “Although I’m not sure what her intentions are…”

“Don’tcha worry. We’ve called our ‘Agent’ over here, too, since we wanted her help in getting information from a captured rival,” Lorelei says, as she winks. Ah. Perhaps that’s the plan…

“Made it, huh?” Miranda says as you bring her in. “Come on. We’ve got a place for her inside…”

As she’s wrapped up in chains and rope by Miranda, and Lorelei keeps on lookout, you can’t help but worry...although that doesn’t last for very long before Arc’s voice comes out. “Hello?”

“Showtime,” Miranda says quietly.

She doesn’t look any different than normal, you notice when you look out at her from the office window. Same suit, same expressions, same everything. Nothing that’d tell you that she’s been feeding information. Lorelei’s behind her, simply pats her on the back. “Oh, don’t be so loud. We’re right here- and SHE’S under lock and key.”

“Ah. So she’s up there?” Arc points, towards the office area. Interesting assumption; she wasn’t, actually. Lorelei had suggested she be put in the closet instead.

“She’s as snug as a bug in a rug!” Lorelei says with a laugh, and pats her on the back. “Don’t worry. Doesn’t sound like she’ll be too much trouble even if she gets loose.”

“Alright. So...you’re planning on getting information out of her, right?” Arc says. You can see her throat bob ever so slightly before she breathes out. “Then let me go in myself; I’m experienced with this enough to know how to get people to talk.” She and Lorelei proceed to walk up the stairs casually, open the door, and Arc is bewildered when she looks around and sees nothing but the two of you, March and May, in front of her. “...shi-”

She doesn’t even get the word out before Lorelei whips out a knife quick as a blink- in less than a second it’s in her sternum, and as Arc grunts from the pain, there’s a pistol levelled point-blank at her head to boot. Lorelei’s got a mile-wide grin on the whole time. “Well, I didn’t say ‘we need to get information out of ‘her’, now did I? Lemme tell ya, sweetie, it’s not an easy thing to con a con-woman. Now, be a good girl and tell us why’d you decide to be a rat, huh?”

“April!” you shout as Miranda casually pushes off the desk and heads outside for whatever reason. If she bleeds out, then-

“Oh, relax,” Lorelei says casually. “Girl’s got regen up the wazoo, according to her ex-bosses. This is just insurance.” Health regeneration? Oh dear. That, unfortunately, DOES change things a tad.

Sure enough, though, Arc grunts out, if in pain: “I...I can’t say I’m surprised…you girls seemed too good...”

“Flattery’ll get you into the club, but I ain’t hearing music,” Lorelei quips. “Besides, if it was me, you’d be dead right now. “So let’s get those questions of yours answered while March has her fun.”

Arc is bleeding, hurt, struggling against Lorelei’s grip and grin...and you still can’t help but ask.

“Why?”

>>
Good god, I fucking love Lorelei.

There’s a brief people of quiet, before she grits her teeth and murmurs. “...I can’t tell you.”

“Can’t or won’t?” Lorelei asks casually.

“...Can’t. I can’t even tell you why I can’t. But I can’t.” Arc says. “But...believe me, it’s not quite like you think!” That...doesn’t sound good. But if that’s the case, why can she not say…?”

“Was it...were you coerced?” you find yourself asking. Arc doesn’t respond at all for a moment, even after a brief kick from Lorelei.

Suddenly, there’s a crash from outside, and not too far off, either. The lot of you turn to it, although Lorelei keeps careful eyes on Arc. A few seconds later, there’s a scream as well, but not one you recognize…

Suddenly, BOTH your Murmur Stones go off. “Found some bogeys,” Miranda says simply. “Moving to engage.”

“Ooh, was that your backup?” Lorelei says casually. “Hm. Sucks for you, then.”

“Look, I don’t...matter that much in the long run, okay?” Arc admits. “I mean, I…”

“Well, hey, if you don’t matter, then why not do something constructive before it’s all wrapped up, hm?” Lorelei asks him simply. You give her a frown, to which she shrugs. “Hey, you know what’s going on here, don’t gimme that look.”

“Yellow Bishop is incapacitated,” she suddenly says. “Moving on. Multiple shadow contacts inbound. Engaging.”

Sighing, you turn back to Arc, who’s seeming more and more pale by the minute- although whether it’s from fear or continuous blood loss, you can’t say.

Marie's incapacitated, so that means she's knocked out, got a ring around her, or is glued to a wall. She's not a problem, at least for a good twenty or thirty minutes.

You really are determined to put a stop to any and all creative thinking.

Then illuminate me, because not only is hard to have fresh in the memory the little, important tidbits of lore that have happened in 4 years, but the only thing that you are doing is whining about me and not about my argument.

You say(or at least imply) that you have the real facts? that's great! just show them.

You think i'm wrong but don't know where is the specific part that confirms i'm wrong? great as well! Several of the anons think the same thing, but unlike you, they are also defending their point of view.
Now to be honest, I don't think i will convince them, neither i think they believe they will convince me, but the back and forth gives the other anons more information (real or not) to make up their minds, and that's what matters.

Also
> “April!” you shout as Miranda casually pushes off the desk and heads outside for whatever reason. If she bleeds out, then-
Miranda rigged the site with detectors, probably why she got the drop on Marie AND disable her in less than one round.
Poor girl is probably missing a limb or two right now, depending on Miranda's method of incapacitation.
>>
>>3960395
Yknow it's weird that sometimes I forget that Handler's style of writing actually has characters do things in the background when we aren't controlling them. I feel like this is unfair but I can't think of a reason to argue why.
>>
>>3960651
to be fair miranda has been at this shit for the longest of ANYONE there, especially since she is a no nonsense tacticool operator, it makes sense she would string up any conceivable place that magical girls would drop in by with explosives or traps of a strong sort. It's not fair because you like the quest the setting is from and shit has fallen apart because of massively conflicting characters brought about to do different things.
>>
A thought occurs...

Is Arc’s reluctance to tell us what’s going on have something to do with Marie Okada? When Izumi was riding with her, she seemed to notice Marie trying to touch her for some reason. After the argument about how the world works when we were trying to convince her friends, this happened.

> With that, she snaps her fingers, and as though a fog had lifted from their heads, they quickly retreat towards their leader- although you notice that Miyabi and Honoka are less than enthused looking.

Then when we meet back up with one of her underlings, she gets a headache after we make roads to convince her...

I’m thinking that Marie has some sort of mind control magic, and that she’s using it on local magical girls to put them under her control.
>>
>>3960029
We can combine the votes:
>"I'm going to ask again. Why. Did you. Do it."
> "Arc, who is the Shadow Queen? Help us finish this. Everything started with her."
> "Don't make yourself meaningless. Don't be just another body under her boots"

If Arc still hesitates:
>Pull out sword
>Point the sword to Arc's neck
>Ask Lori to use her tranquilizer on Arc
>ask Lori if she can try to quickly possess Arc and access her brain/memories, while reassuring her to ignore the gross fleshy feeling
>>
>>3961261
I'm not a fan of Lori doing the mind thing, which also makes tranqing Arc pointless. But otherwise seems reasonable.
>>
>>3960848
FUCK you're right! We must not kill Arc then.
Let's ping Miranda to bring Marie in.
>>
>>3961327
In that case, lets kill arc and dive inside marie's mind instead. I mean, if marie is the one that keeps arc and everyone else quiet, then by logic, she must have more information.
>>
>>3961347
I'm thinking we should let her live. She's another asset for the inevitable final confrontation and her skill set is very impactful.
Killing her after learning that she was mind controlled is a terrible waste.
>>
>>3961358
Thing is, we got a direct order from our bosses to kill her. She knows too much.
>>
>>3961366
Well, we did want to find out why Arc went rogue. Plus, now that we have a theory about how it happened, we should warn our employers to recall any agents that might have come into physical contact with Marie and placed under quarantine.

Plus, I kinda want to let Arc have a chance to “thank” Marie for what she did to her.
>>
>>3960848
Fantastic last minutes revelations anon. I've somehow missed that too.

She's definitely mindscrewed. Coupled with Izumi's first encounter with Marie, we also know that the mind control is not absolute.

We're lucky that we haven't killed any MGs close to Marie. Finding out that it was mind control after doing the deeds would not do well to Izumi's psyche.
>>
>>3961261
We might have to scrap part 2.

Replace with:
> Signal Miranda to bring Marie in.
> Explain our theory to everyone.
> If (high chance) the above is true, force Marie to cancel the mind control.
>>
>>3961261

>>
>>3961437
Just keep in mind that the shadows are converging in, there might be more MGs en route, we also have kanna inside a closet and she might wake up. Its a very delicate situation where we can lose three targets just to prove a hypothesis that might yield little result (because killing marie should break the mind control).
>>
>>3961454
That's another option. Killing her should release the spell, if she refuses to drop it.

Another thing, remember the rolls that we did back when Izumi was with Marie in the car?

>>
>>3961467
Yes, i remember them and the fact that she didn't need to touh us makes it a priority to kill her ASAP. Also, remember who in our group is weak against mental attacks? It would be a shame that marie managed to mind control miranda just becuse we want to dispel the spell the old fashioned way.
>>
>>3961475
You forgot that Miranda’s gotten some training with mind manipulation a few missions ago. Just need to warn her to put her brain shields up and her magical hairpin on.
>>
>>3961475
Good thing Miranda has got herself a tinfoil hat now.

Marie's in no shape to fight, and Miranda still has her mind tampering alert pin. So if she tries anything funny you bet she's dead. Then the spell gets dropped and everything is gold.

I also belive she doesn't really have the problem of 'mental wall' thing. Probably.

After some time thinking, I have a game plan.

> Signal Miranda to bring Marie in.
> Warn Miranda through the Murmur stone that Marie has mind control capabilities.
> After Marie has been brought in, have Miranda switch in with Lorelei to restrain Arc.
> Have Lorelei on standby with lie detection (“Fact or Fiction?” needs visual guidance).
> Interrogate Marie. Have Lorelei on call outs. Force her to cancel the mind control if the theory is confirmed.

This is much safer than risking Lorelei doing possessions on a bleeding body with a knife sticking out of her chests, risking soul contamination, and/or leaving us with another body to guard.
>>
>>3961603
Move the second option to the fist place. Its dumb to tell her that marie has minfmd control powers after bringing her in.

Also, who is going to take care of the shadows and keep an eye out for any other intrussion? Surely if marie doesnt report back, more MGs will come, or worse; marie already sent a call for backup
>>
>>3961437
Nope, sticking with previous suggestion.
>>
>>3961609
The shadows are small fries, she should be able to take care of them. If not, we can have her on the lookout again.
If that happens, Lorelei will have to tranq Arc to prevent puppet shenanigans.
>>
Seems the general idea is 'press her', and try a few things.

You can’t help but frown a bit- her reluctance is concerning, certainly. But even with regeneration, you can’t imagine that a knife between the ribs feels any good. “Forgive me, but I need to insist, so I'm going to ask again. Why. Did you. Do it." You’d rather avoid drawing your sword, even if just for intimidation purposes.

There’s a moment of silence before Lorelei taps her head with the gun barrel in reminder. “...because I had to. Is that enough?” She gets out. She grits her teeth, shaking her head in a jutter, almost like she’s in pain. “L-look, if you’re going to kill me, just end it- make it quick.”

Good gracious… “Arc, can’t you see we’re concerned for you?” You can’t help but kneel down to her level, to look her in the eyes. “This doesn’t sound like it’s voluntary! And if it’s the doing of the Shadow Queen or a subordinate, then you need to help us, by telling us who she is! She started it, and we can most certainly finish it! Don't make yourself meaningless. Don't be just another body under her boots!”

“Dunno if that’s gonna do anything for her, honestly.” Lorelei says. You’re tempted to snap at her for undermining your plea, but she continues on. “Might be she literally can’t say, might be she’s just disincentivized. But…”

“Then if it IS something affecting her mind, can- you…?” Your voice hitches as you realize what you’re about to ask her- you know full well she dislikes traveling into people’s minds, and even then…

Lorelei grimaces, but to her credit, doesn’t seem to show any particular annoyance at being asked. “I meeaaan...I’m pretty sure no, although that’d be nifty- if gross. I mean, like, if you’re asking me to do mind reading. Pretty sure it’s just body surfing. Hell, it could’ve been an implant chip and I could still do bupkis.”

Rats. Then...what can you do for now? Maybe…

In the moment you’re considering the possibilities (what few come to your head), there’s another call from your stone. “Yellow Knight 1 is on scene, and has engaged, along with multiple shadow hostiles,” Miranda reports. You can hear a crash coming through the stone as well. “...situation’s under control. They’re getting bigger, though. Smarter, too. I- hold on.” There’s the sound of several magiblast shots going off- along with some odd sounding explosions. A few more whumps of impact sound as well. “-right, I think they’re trying to drown me in bodies. I might be a while.”

“Wait, do you need reinforcement?” you ask quickly.

“No, no, I- hup!” You hear a ‘Whoa!’, then something wooden breaks in the distance, and you hear a girl’s yelp of pain. “...I’m fine, just making a note in case some slip past.”

“Right.” With that, you turn back to Arc. “You see? We can most certainly handle anything thrown at us. But without proper information, we can only go so far.”

Pupils dart to and fro, Arc clearly mulling over the situation in her head, before she closes them in heavy thought. Lorelei’s about to say something, but you quickly hush her. After another terse minute or two, she finally looks up, and her eyes have an all too familiar expression- that of something resigned to their death- but is willing to go and make the most of it anyway, and in a hurry as she speaks. “Not exaggerating- this assault not for me. Kanna."

Lorelei squints. “...whoa, what’s with the busted speech...?”

Arc continues unabated. “She’s precious. I’m not. My mind...isn’t mine.”

“Your mind isn’t…?” Lorelei repeats questioningly.

“Magic,” she grunts, before slumping down, panting as you see some red run down her nose. “No more magic.”

With things as they are, I think it's possible to get reward for every target by killing just that one person mind controlling everyone and returning everybody else to our client. Or if by some freak chance the main target isn't the one mind controlling them then we'd only need 2 kills.
This is assuming that they would all still be loyal to our client if they weren't being mind controlled.
>>
>>3961986
I think so too. Right now if somehow Miranda can't hold the line, we'll need to use the teleporter plate. We'll have a much easier time fixing Arc somewhere safe. Once that's done she can tell us who did it, then we'll have a mark or two. Keeping her alive is very important.
We can also try to see if Kanna is mind controlled too as well.

They're using darkness because they've given up hope, but imagine seeing that? I bet it could convert and maybe power up a few of them at once. With a copious amount of getting absolutely fucking schooled in combat

>>3962404
that could work IF there was a magical girl to see it. so far it seems that the only MG in-situ is marie and she's crazy and out of the fight for the time being. we could try it when more MGs appear, though.

>>
>>3961920
People die. Izumi isn't even the one killing this girl.

I mean. She might do it, but I expect Miranda to argue against it. Definitely against bringing any of these girls to the Intersection, they're all low powered chumps without anything monetizable like O&C.

Mono? Not seen once the new wore off. Shocking.

Medabots? Also sidelined recently and good riddance.

If we're gonna do training arcs, we already have the "rookie" slots full AF.

If you want someone on the level of Miranda you’d probably be getting a 90 year old hermit (who you’d probably complain about being too old for the job), someone akin to that prince from the job fighting Lord Kolm (who is too important to their world to hire), or is currently an Outgoer themselves, and is probably sticking to the bigger companies rather then join SES.

>without anything monetizable like O&C.
Owlia’s a side hustle that’s been eating up WAY too much of our down time. At least Mono, Cylica and the bots can manage to do fine on their own and earn some cash besides, and I just expect exposition when we’re with the kids. Meanwhile we’re building a bot to help Owlia not have a nervous breakdown all for what? Another gear list, in a part of the quest that has a bunch already. Blech.
>>
>>3962452
I didn't mean to do it right now, but it's a plan that we can work in. Build on it for the boss fight.
>>
Hello everyone, just came in from reading the archives. One of the more fun quests I have read on sup/tg/, and the only one still actively running.

Looking forward to being an active participant for once, after years of reading quests after their death or completion.
>>
>>3962911
Owlia and Cylica earned a shit ton of cash and could leave us at any time to do crystal tech.

Did you not even play the early game?

If anything, Silver Eye doesn't have the proper resources to develop or sell their results.

O&C also take downtime but it always a) moves the story forward b) gets something mechanically progressed for SES, and c) ties together loot not turned into motes.

But since you hate inventory lists for some reason I can see why it would bother you that it takes away from girls movie night, girls rollerderby, looking after children, oh and the brief training we might do. How dare we spend time on something that will actually affect the game play!

They were end bosses too, and could easily be runners but instead chose couriers to focus on their much more marketable skills while supplementing Silver Eyes shit financials.

Paying for the upgraded pretty much all on Mirandas dime.

Honestly, at this point we should just drop the fucking money/taxes aspect because the players are both bad and uninterested in it. Which I find a piss off, because it was something with the potential for actually being challenging, but no people just want to fucking steamroll weaker worlds and suck dick during crossovers.

I miss the early missions so much, this quest keeps getting voted to go downhill.

I bet a vote to take girls from here passes just because cross-over.

TL;DR I hate what you are trying to turn the quest into. I hate that people insist on taking it super seriously but refuse to make any sort of long term goal or plan much less work towards it. I hate that it's slowly degrading to isolate masturbatory power fantasy and pandering to nostalgia.

I hate that you are shit and are turning this to shit.

I even voted to take the medabots, despite not liking them, because they're practically Lori's kids.

Fuck it. I'm out until the crossover is over because otherwise I'm just gonna vote to kill these evil MG bitches when reasonable and people will get butthurt if their waifu dies.
>>
>>3962911
Fate Spiders had mad tactical/strategic skills, not to mention being organizers.

We could grabbed the kids from Mobworld who had prophecy and magical mechanic powers.

We could even have grabbed the android from the Seither world and had him take Mecha missions.

It's not about power. It's about transferable job skills.

Mono didn't really have shit to offer, but it was a big crossover and stuff happened, and even then at least her skills are super dedicated to support and filled a gap on the team.

The fact that you think I'm looking for just power shows how different your context is.

But the girls here don't even have power, which is like the bare minimum for consideration.

On the other hand, if SES had alternative service revenue streams within the intersection, that could also be used to draw in powerful talent.

Magi/Tech resources for middling Outgoers looking for an edge they wouldn't qualify for in larger more competitive groups.

Dedicated android/AI/Mecha support could draw in 'bots and we could make a specialist division to corner the Mecha mission markets.

Hell, just having materiel and facilities to better support outgoers instead of paying them more money.

But it seems like nobody playing has any clue how businesses, or people, work so all this stuff gets tossed to the side in favour of basic bitch shounen tropes.

Is this why it's so hard to write a good MG quest?
>>
>>3962911
>Owlia’s a side hustle that’s been eating up WAY too much of our down time.
How can someone be so ignorant and so wrong? Owlia and cylica gain lotes by thread and by post. They gain so much that they put to shame the earnings of all the other girls combined so shut up.

>Meanwhile we’re building a bot to help Owlia not have a nervous breakdown all for what?
To get upgrades faster and so that owlia doesn't collapse under her own hubris and the workload we put on her, you dolt.
>>
>>3963070
I hate that you're coming off so salty but at the same time making a lot of sense.
>>
If you want Arc in the field, she is already had experience in deployment. Solo mission we're her thing and can operate solo. Just because she was holded out for her own life doesn't really take away her capabilities as a magical girl. All she need is a orientation on how things work in intersection and done.
>>
>>3963070
Oh hey anon, I saw your complaints in /ptg/. I'd like to see more unusual jobs like the MG training one too.
I see some of your points, but anons have established in the past that they wouldn't want to make it too managerial (can be boring and difficult, I don't blame them) and taking away the time doing jobs. And a lot came for the comfy SOL stuffs and solving jobs through alternative means IC instead of just the usual murderhobo. Killing people without finding out the bigger picture as Izumi? Not a chance.

Cool off a little. Arc might be a chump when compared to us but she has her uses.

+ The first true MG operative recruited (if she is recruited). Mesh well with our vets due to previous experiences.
+ Purely offensive skill sets, something that the bots and Mono lacks.
+ SILENCE and DISPEL. We don't have any of those and they are always always good to have.

And we still haven't seen her fight yet. For what it's worth, she's still being considered. But all of the other options are out now and we're at the ending phase of the job. Imo if we're recruiting our best bet is her. If she's in, we have another brawler to play with, she has time to bloom.
>>
>>3963463
>The first true MG operative recruited (if she is recruited). Mesh well with our vets due to previous experiences.
That's good, but she has not much going for her other than that. Its like saying that your local police officer can be part of a black ops team just because he knows how to follow orders.
>Purely offensive skill sets, something that the bots and Mono lacks.
But the bots and mono arent full offensive assets, they are mainly for support, and if we are considering offensive capacities, arc gets blown out of the water by the og trio and maybe mono due to her reality warping skills.
>SILENCE and DISPEL. We don't have any of those and they are always always good to have.
Now you are talking, but that mostly will force her into a support role AND force the rest of us into duo missions. Its not that gratifying to go from a secret agent to a pocket...not even healer, but spell difusser.

>Imo if we're recruiting our best bet is her.
Eeeh, yes, but that doesn't mean she should be considered. So far she has been pretty lackluster, hell, marie is more impressive than her at this very moment.

Let's review some profiles you anons want.

Agent Arc
>Has past experience in operating solo
>Experience carried from obervation to direct confrontation. Probably takes assassination missions too.
>Can detect traps, has silence and dispels.
>Has powerful spells with a great drawback (need to hit at least 3 times)

Marie Okada
>Works as scout
>Can shoot arrows at will in any direction
>Otherwise unstable personality

Kanna Rikudo
>Has brute strength
>Only relies on her powerful strength to overpower enemy
>Amateur in all departments (cause she didn't fought anything stronger than her)
>Generally a worst choice if ever anons think they want to recruit this girl.

Yuu
>A brawler type MG
>Has good hand to hand combat
>Has buffs that can help her/others
>Has no magical offensive spell shown yet.
>>
>>3963487
desu, she has been quite down to her luck on this mission. Getting caught off-guard and mindscrewed doesn't look good on anyone's portfolio. If she wasn't then we would see her shine more.

>That's good, but she has not much going for her other than that. Its like saying that your local police officer can be part of a black ops team just because he knows how to follow orders.
Anon, she's the local black ops. She has been working with the Org for years.

>Now you are talking, but that mostly will force her into a support role AND force the rest of us into duo missions. Its not that gratifying to go from a secret agent to a pocket...not even healer, but spell difusser.
She's not forced to go with us, she has been going solo for a long time and came out fine. But she's there when we're going into a mage-heavy world and when she's available. It's about options, like you said.
And we can always teach her how to heal other people. She already has insane regeneration for herself if we're following Lori's word.

>marie is more impressive than her at this very moment.
Marie and company are noooot exactly friendly with us at the moment.

>>3963517
Agent Arc looks the most impressive if we're looking at this from an outsider perspective.
>>
>>3963517
The only one that i think has potential SHOULD we ever get to get a girl, is yuu. Her skills have no drawbacks and can help anybody, and while she hasn't shown any magical skills, that doesnt mean she cant develop more skills from the same root her buffs come from(or we give her a gun and thats it).

>>3963530
>Anon, she's the local black ops. She has been working with the Org for years.
And she was a shitty black ops that not only betrayed her organization(or got mind controlled; you pick which one is worse), but allowed all of this to happen.

>Marie and company are noooot exactly friendly with us at the moment.
Arc has been playing a paper all of this time. There is nothing assurig us that she will want to deal with any magical shenanigans after this

Some girls that aren't featured yet. (Based on archives and pastebin link)

Junko Kurosaki
>Defensive MG
>Has large diverse utility skills and arsenal
>Proficient in broadsword and can launch projectiles to Target
>Can command few disposable underlings under her command
>Possibly that she has distorted personality

Mako Hirayama
>No known information except that she is a maid inside the mansion.
>Rumored that she has unbottomless energy

Rei Fukuda
>Elemental MG
>Extremely powerful with wide use of her arsenal if trained properly
>Can cook
>Genius herself being a bookworm before being corrupted
>Otherwise a perverted mind which can be fixed easily

I didn't include Yoshinobu Okada since he is not what we're looking for unless you want a diversity.

Yoshinobu Okada
>Can summon the highest capable minions with the expertise of a master fighter.
>Good with money, even greater when earning them.
>Known for it's guile and quick witted to outplay any negotiations under his advantage.
>Otherwise is self conscious about his body since he wants to slim down.
>>
>>3963578
Man profiling looks fun. What do you think?
>>
>>3963539
Fair point on the first, but the second's far-fetched I think.

Do chime in actually. We can always use someone to reel in some of our more idealistic goals while pointing out things we miss.

>>3963584
Best options are Arc, Junko and Rei for me. But Junko is the final boss and a very loose cannon that requires too much time to fix. Rei is completely MIA and we're too far into the job to develop her to even have her considered for the spot IC.
>>
>>3963578
Personally i still believe that our best candidate should be Rei followed by Yuu.
Why Rei? because owlia needs a lab assistant, basically, and she also has a set of skills that while useless on the role of an outsider, they can be very profitable inside the intersection (where most of the money seems to be).

>>3963593
>Do chime in actually. We can always use someone to reel in some of our more idealistic goals while pointing out things we miss.
Sure! This back and forth is quite enjoyable when all parties do give reasoning to their arguments.
>>
>>3963593
>Rei is completely MIA and we're too far into the job to develop her to even have her considered for the spot IC.
Hmmm....we might have a chance if we can free arc and Rei does something literally amazing. But i'm pretty sure you are right.
>>
>>3963450
I wish I wasn't so salty about it either.

>>3963463
> Imo if we're recruiting our best bet is

Anyone already from the Intersection. Where Outgoers are all FINAL FORM Magical Girls.

None of the characters here are worth taking, otherwise Dealmakers would be, you know, taking them.

People want to even spend a favour from Sal, literally priceless for an Outgoer, to bring back a shitty edge waifu.

See >>3963487 Arc would require hand holding for way too long before being able to take Outgoer missions.

> B . . B . . B . . Silence and dispel

We've gone to mostly worlds with tech, or magitech, that includes everything from Mana Guns and Crystal Laser bots to gunpowder guns and straight up Mecha.

Silence and Dispel aren't a huge sell.

>>3963517

They're all still just too weak. We can get people with those skill sets AND the power to do survive in the Intersection.

Fuck, even the Cook guy would be a better choice.
>>
>>3963635
>Fuck, even the Cook guy would be a better choice.

Please don't remind us of cook guy...

Anyway, power comparable to Miranda and the other girls wouldn't be really to find or convince to join SES. Miranda's earned it by living as a magical girl for about 80 years, and the only other way is to have it given over by powerful artifacts or entities, and the folks who have THAT are usually married to their own cause or interests.
>>
>>3963517
Agent Arc
- Already pointed out that her magical skillset is limited. Lorelei already does better at thief, infiltrator, AND Face, AND assassination roles. Arc's combat power is negligible.

Marie Okada
- Fucking female Hawkeye applying for Avengers.

Kanna Rikudo
- Not even you want her, but think about "has brure strength" and compare that to Miranda's "Magical Brawler".

Yuu
- So a Miranda, but like a little baby Miranda with no nukes or manablasts or another fine control over mana?

Junko Kurosaki
- "Can command few disposable underlings under her command" wait so they need an enterouge? Haha no. Otherwise, she has one sword. Woooo. She can fucking shank people whoop te do. Oh, or maybe you think she should command Outgoer MG's, who have seen their worlds end one way or another and faced down said ending before operating as Operators for decades in a timeless void town?

Mako Hirayama
- The only one worth maybe considering regarding "Bottomless Energy" but if they're powerful enough to be worth it, they're probably powerful enough to make a place for themselves here instead of fleeing forever to weeb R’lyeh. Even then, big if on the power.

Yoshinobu Okada
- Summoner. Hope his summons work in other dimensions. Other skills are just Sal-lite.

> Arc would require hand holding for way too long before being able to take Outgoer missions.
Mono was complete newb and she was able to come online in reasonable time. Someone like Arc would be much quicker. I do agree that using a Favor for something like this is too wasteful and stupid.
> Silence and Dispel aren't a huge sell.
I have to disagree. Magic-related jobs are literally half of potential things we can take.

>We can get people with those skill sets AND the power to do survive in the Intersection.
That reminds me, if we aren't taking anyone then we should do a recruitment drive after this. Miranda's newfound fame should help.
What exactly do we need at the moment?
>>
>>3963656
> Anyway, power comparable to Miranda and the other girls wouldn't be really to find or convince to join SES.

Except inside the interesection. Also that's why the examples I gave providef tangible benefits to SES. Oh and the Android could pilot Mecha which we could buy, upgrade, or enchant at the Intersection not to mention operate other vehicle support.

A pilot for our planes and a Mech for combat would have been both useful for transport and combat, with combat strength being able to quickly be leveled up.

I have no idea what any of these MGs would actually DO to make money, let alone be worth the taxes for existence.

O&C like has been mentioned make mad cash.
>>
>>3963662
We need to either get Outgoer mission capable people, or some high-end manufacturing ability to start production of Owlias inventions for sale.

Or like I said, a pilot/mechwarrior for air support and transport.
>>
>>3963662
>I do agree that using a Favor for something like this is too wasteful and stupid.
it fits under izumi's personality though. Now, i never said she would use the favor to recruit her, but to fake her death. still stupid, i know, but it makes sense.

>I have to disagree. Magic-related jobs are literally half of potential things we can take.
Have we ever gotten a mission that would have been better if we had a dispel?

>What exactly do we need at the moment?
we need people to help owlia not die and create or finish refining her experimental tech. The Lotes are in mass producing those items, but none of the anons want to touch that shit for some reason. They must be allergic to money, i guess.
I'm reluctant to agree with >>3963671, but a pilot/courier (or at least piloting classes for cylica) would at least make us use the fighter we have. right now is just gaining dust.
>>
Honestly, if people want to hire Arc, then if she survives the interrogation and saved from mind control we'll make her fight with us until the end of the mission. If she won't impress us then we'll tell her bosses about the mind control thing and senf her off together with captured people of interest. If she does - then welcome her aboard.

>>3963662
>What exactly do we need at the moment?
I think either a heavy hitter who is capable of doing jobs solo or a researcher/artificer to help our R&D
>>
>>3963671
>>3963676
>>3963677
So someone like John the Artificer? Who can be an in-house smith/enchanter and maintain/produce gear for us, who's also know how to fight while being very tech-savvy, who's also knowledgeable enough to help Owlia out.

A combat engineer of this caliber shouldn't be too hard to find in the Intersection.
>>
>>3963662
A ranged option would be nice, as well as someone skilled in piloting aircraft. A dedicated scientist or engineer (one who stays in the intersection) would also be nice.

Bonus points for someone nonhuman or a dude.

>>3963657
>Mako Hirayama
Sounds like a non-combatant, so that's a hard pass.

>>3963666
>Except inside the interesection. Also that's why the examples I gave providef tangible benefits to SES.

I doubt we're going to convince someone with the experience comparable to Miranda who hasn't been snapped up by the Interdiction or the other big fish. I'm willing to do tryouts, but we're not going to find anything close to Miranda that way.
>>
>>3963666
>I have no idea what any of these MGs would actually DO to make money, let alone be worth the taxes for existence.
That's a serious part of the problem. Just maintenance on the vehicles (that we haven't used yet) is around 10 Lotes/week. We make ~10-20 Lotes per mission, which take a couple of weeks at least. Job time -> interaction time isn't 1:1, but that's still a significant recurring cost for something that'll get used once in a blue moon at best. And that's before hiring dedicated crew.
>>
>>3963681
The problem with hiring inside the Intersection is that most people worth taking are already taken.
>>
>>3963681
>A combat engineer of this caliber shouldn't be too hard to find in the Intersection.
the problem with that is that handler already told us that they cost a lot to keep. which means that we have to pull people from outside the intersection, A.K.A. the reason why i'm rooting for rei.

>>3963671
>Or like I said, a pilot/mechwarrior for air support and transport.
Owlia and Cylica are both skyworlders, where almost all types of transport are of the flying type, so they just need some special training. And Prima and Jago could be provided with some software as well.
>>
>>3963693
probably because they don't know the mad science that owlia is making and because we never stay more than three days in the intersection.

I'd like to think Outgoing was only getting miniscule attention from the bosses since it doesn't generate as much funds as the restaurant and other SES biz. At the start of the quest we had only 3 people in our team, and we were the only Outgoer team of SES. That's fucking tiny and insignificant. I suspect our Outgoer branch was made only so that SES had a presence in the field.
We're only getting some nice looks from the big wigs recently because we've been expanding and improving ourselves.

We've met a bunch of people who were retired for a time but want to get back into things. We can also hire temporary specialists from other companies. But greed.

There's also people with personal reasons for wanting to leave their employer. Maybe they're in conflict with their superior. Maybe they want a better chance for personal advancement with a growing company, being their own head mechanic instead of an apprentice for instance. Maybe they have moral issues like Izumi and want more freedom on what jobs to take. Maybe they just want to work somewhere else after 30 years.

And we don't need Miranda levels, just non-scrubs. We could get some solid Bs, better than the not-even-letter-worthy, non-professionals we would find here.

Ultimately I'm pretty sure we've repeatedly had the option to hire in the intersection.

>>3963685
That's why I wanted to get the Android last mission, otherwise we should sell the vehicles off. Although reliable personal transport, CAS, and maybe Mecha support would be able to send out on its own or provide strategic assets for bigger jobs that pay more.
>>
>>3963694
Owlia and Cylica being pilots is like using a screwdriver to pound in a nail, also they already make money doing what they're good at and finally I doubt they would want to be pilots.

They've had other job offers in the intersection too, so they can choose to leave us.
>>
>>3963778

Three punches, three dispersed Shadows. You quickly leap for the fourth one; it’s one of the bigger ones and has a FAR more humanoid face and boy type. It has the sense to try and dodge, and you’re just far enough away that the first swing does; the counter is a slash that is dodged, and you retaliate with an uppercut that takes the shadow’s head from its shoulders before it vanishes.

Marie’s currently stuck to a wall via a mass of sticky mana, unconscious. The shadows seem to realize that, too, and several have tried to break off to free her- at least, you’re pretty sure of that. You swear there’ve been some other movement, too, but nothing hits your senses, not that you have the luxury of paying close attention to that right now…

A flurry and flash of color and you’re quick to turn around as Yuu lunges for you again, the striker proving skilled in terms of execution...but her judgements leave a bit much to be desired. She’s quick to throw out two hooks which are both swatted, and you see the front kick coming from a mile away; you’re quick to grab her heel, drag her in, and lift. You pivot and swing; she goes flying...again. “Hello?” your Murmur Stone rings? “You said you can hold things here, right? Me and April are going to be trying...something.”

“What kind of something?” you mutter as a fresh wave of shadows step up.

She responds as the first one is blown throw via magiblast. “Don’t worry, it’s nothing too risky, I’m just...trying to extract information.” Hm. Well…

“Alright, but let me know when you’re done,” you decide as the next two fall. This whole thing is proving to frustrate you- if only because you don’t know how much more you can keep under wraps before you blow the rider. Not like it’s really your fault, though, they’re the ones that decided to launch a damn invasion…

Yuu springs back, apparently, and this time she goes low, her shin connecting with yours as you deflect it, going into a string of elbows, knees, and punches as she tries to speak through them. “Shut-up-and-give-her-back!” The last one is punctuated with a hook that she has the good sense to try to turn into an elbow; you nearly take it on the chin, but result in trapping said elbow in the crook of your neck with your left arm. She blanches briefly, but manages to twist her wrist a bit and she quickly does her best to lower her body- ah, clinching. Fine, you can play it that way...

Lethal. Randa is handling it, but she's too pragmatic to not take out a hostile when there's no strong reason not to.
>>

Lethal. no point in keeping alive anymore
>>
>>3963836

I vote for lethal or just cut a limb or two off to force her to retreat.

> She’s quick to throw out two hooks which are both swatted, and you see the front kick coming from a mile away; you’re quick to grab her heel, drag her in, and lift. You pivot and swing; she goes flying...again.
Miranda had the perfect opportunity to slice her leg off with a Magiwave there. Sloppy sloppy.

> Sun Flare.
> Take a limb or two off her while she's stunned.
> THEN we get Gartoum out while she's recovering from shock and the shadows are panicking.
Much more efficient.
>>
>>3963793
> Flare

> Break a leg and an arm

> Put a knife to Marie's throat. What part of Hostage do they not understand?
>>
Keep in mind that it is expected that they'll have some healing factors, so just breaking limbs will not disable them for long.
>>
>>3963872
> Put a knife to Marie's throat. What part of Hostage do they not understand?

I assume we could also force the limbs to heal in positions that would leave them useless until they were rebroken and healed again.
>>
>>3963885
I assume Miranda should have the knowledge of doing so? This is not the first retirement job she has went into, and plenty of MGs have healing factors.

Breaking her limbs is much faster, but to really keep her out of the fight we might have to separate them with a Magiwave or Flamebringer. Just my 2 motes.
>>
I swear, every time recruiting comes up there's always equal amount of anons on each side of the argument. Anons against recruitment have WAY too high standards and those who are for it can't formulate the reason why exactly should we bother.

>>
>>3963836
Lethal, if they didn't want us to start smoking their girls they shouldn't have tried anything. Besides, literally getting paid to do it.
>>
Just a note.

They have our faces. Should Yuu dies, they'll likely plaster wanted posters all over the city and work the police into overdrive, making traversing the city a chore and hindering progress.
>>
>>3964949
And that can potentially blow our Low Profile rider too, if our employers are stingy.
>>
>>3964949
The moment people tried to not assassinate them all ASAP was when they gave up on stealth to begin with. So as long as we're contracted to kill them all we'll just have to deal with it while completing the rest of the mission to the best of our abilities. In fact we could just be smart and finish them as fast as possible to not let them have any more time to put up those notices anyways.
>>
>>3964949
>Should Yuu dies, they'll likely plaster wanted posters all over the city
And they wouldn't otherwise?
>>
>>3964983
Well, if we blackmailed them maybe they'd keep it quiet. But things have escalated, if our spooks can't keep things quiet we're just going to blow that rider.
>>
>>3964979
To be honest, if we killed her back in the MMA event that would only accelerate what I said, since they likely had surveillance cameras. Getting that kind of hindrance in the early stage of the job is terrible no matter how you spell it.

Combing over, the only time that we could have got away with it is when Izumi met with Marie, and that counts for the impossible scenario of Izumi indisrimately killing a POI and all of the witnesses while info gathering.
>>
>>3964983
They could do it right after Arc revealed our status, but they didn't.

Seems like they want to take care of this quietly just as much as we do? All bets are off when we get some body counts in though.
>>
>>3965016
The time it might take them to find our faces will take some time. How much time has it passed from the mma event? A week? And the only real face that they have right now is -ironically- izumi's(if the school happens to have cameras). Miranda and lorelei should be safe for a while.
>>
>>3965035
we were there for interviews I presume were televised, we're probably in crowd shots.
>>
>>3965061
Well.... the alternative is to kill yuu, marie, kanna and probably arc and then storm the okada mansion today. We know he definitely is compromised along most inside it. If the shadow queen isnt there, the death of okada will massively crippel her power over the city.
>>
>>3965085
While that can prevent the rider being revoked, that's too quick I feel. We'll need time to recharge.

We should teleport to safety after this and ask our spooks what should be done since we know all of them are connected to the main target. We know that they should be killed but how precisely?
>>
Okay, it seems to me like relieving her of a limb barely wins out over outright murder?
>>
>>3965108
We arent tired though, and we have the normal crystals plus the condenser with seither gases. I feel that if we wanna strike them, we should do it when they are distressed and scrambling for a new plan.

>>
>>3965122
Yea Miranda can get tired, but throwing hands and magi-blasts doesn't really do it, I think she gets more fatigued from boredom than anything else. Unless she uses actual spells that is, nebula buster tuckers her out, like a tiny chuuni bab.
>>
>>3965141
Dismembering yuu (and maybe hitting her with her own arm) will definitely send her into shock. We should capitalize on that.

>Current Mana: 10,000/12,500

She’s grunting with all her might trying to topple you- if you had to guess in the moment, trying to mount and then move to ground and pound. She’s got some good muscle, to be honest. You’d rather not stick to a tie up like this for long. And you’re starting to get kinda annoyed about it. As you begin to glow, you can see her eyes squint in confusion.

The flash when you let loose has the desired effect; Yuu immediately screams and flinches, deciding to move back as she covers her shut eyes in reflex. She’s probably got some burn of a sort considering how close she was to it. But, the whole goal was to get her to open herself up- and she did indeed.

She’s still yelling as you grab her closest arm.

Still yelling as you twist it as you twist the arm, flex, and hear the snap of a forearm breaking.

Still yelling as you trip her, and draw your Flamebringer. Now you just need to- “Are you there?” Izumi again. Geez... “We think that one or more of these characters may be being...coerced.”

You’re tempted to reply ‘so?’, but, Izumi. She likes to care about this kinda thing. There’s a pair of shadows that are cut down- now that you have a weapon, they’re extra cautious in approaching you. “So what’s your plan?”

“Hold them off, please, but don’t kill them yet!” she begs. “We’re trying to dive into Arc’s mind to see what the truth is, and if they HAVE been manipulated…” ugh. This girl. “Just...do your best to hold out! I trust you!” Aaaand she pulls that card.

As the shine ends, and you consider how to progress from here, a flurry of shadow movement catches your attention, all of them racing for you in rage that clearly wasn’t there before…

Hm. So many shadows. Maybe… “Gartoum. Come out!”

“Hmmm? What do you have for me- ohoh!” As the inky black creature slorps out of his ring, you notice the shadows seem to act...strange. They slow, look oddly upon him. His centaur-like form, his sharpened, jagged teeth. “Well, well...what do we have here? Brethren…?” He takes a step forward, as his head tilts. “No...no, there’s little in their minds there. Puppets.”

I don't usually do them, no, as I don't like them either, but even rechecking, I just felt a touch confused with all the discussion muddling things up this time around. It was less an 'are you sure' and more 'okay, just to clear this up for me'.

>>
>>3965313
Let's do this. She's still stunned so it should be easy.
>>
>>3965315
Nvm, found it. But it also says that recovering them is also an option - which counts as taking them out in my book.
>>
>>3965304
I'm pretty sure I already quoted about how we get paid for killing every single person that works for the Main Target as Secondary objectives.
>>3965315
Wow, you think people need to trick others into killing targets for money? really?
Here:
>3882899: “Of course,” Izanami starts. “You’ll get paid more if’n you can confirm one o’ the Shadow Queen’s assets and take ‘em out.”

So yeah, we want to kill them for very logical and profitable reasons. Otherwise why would we bother caring about in what way we deal with them?
>>
>>3965322
>“Of course, the assassination of the source of this will be a great boon,” Fujin explains as he knits his fingers together. “But we’re also fairly certain that whoever she is, she has allies. If they cannot be restrained, then…we must consider action towards those individuals as well, depending on their loyalty.”
Capturing them pays as much as killing them, and the say "IF the cannot be restrained" - which we totally can. And can't they come back to life as shadow revenants just like Junko? We've already incapacitated 3 of them, no need to risk our relationship with Izumi over a fear that they might escape after roflstomping them.
>>
>>3965319
killing is way easier. we don't need to wait for an extraction team and if the organization needs a proof of death, we can always cut an important body part and leave the corpses in a hidden place that they can find later.
>>
Delayed, but I'm writing now. Hostages on top of hostages.
>>
>Miranda wants to be Hardcore, but her Mom won't let her.
>>
>>3965327
but your original question/accusation was basically that we were killing people just because, which is false. Either way, we already decided to leave Yuu alive, for now; but if she or any other MG gets too rowdy, they'll get killed.
>>
>>3965333
>>3965319
I found that I was wrong with my accusation before you two came with comebacks
>>
>>3965327
This:>>3965328

It's the amount of much greater risk and effort that makes me choose killing. The only real benefit to capture right now is saving Izumi's feelings, but I personally value Miranda's safety more than that.

The entire reason why I agreed to the mission wasn't to help Izumi to save people, but to kill when she wouldn't, both to reduce her need to do it and get paid for it. I don't think I'm alone in my opinion and objective either.
>>
>>3965336
And in my opinion the situation is stacked in our favour so much that we're steamrolling through everything these shadow girls are throwing at us and Miranda's safety shouldn't concern us that much that we have to deal with Izumi after this job.
This is her job, not ours - this is unprofessional to go on someone else's mission and then ignore what that person says, and she asked us not to kill them. We came to help her as a friend - said so IC, so it's not tied to what different anons' opinions on it are at the moment.
>>
>>3965345
...yes, we know that. that's why the general consensus was to let Yuu live.
>>
>>3965349
...yes, I know that. But that anon was not a part of general consensus.

Anon, there was never any limit on killing on this mission, and the job doesn't force us to do whatever Izumi says. Hell we're the ones that voted for what Izumi did and we could've easily made her ask Miranda to deal with things more lethally. So long as the QM doesn't force us to do anything we're free to vote and do as we want.

Basically whatever we choose to do and the QM allows us to do is In-Character. If it wasn't we would not be given the option or be able to vote for it. The only thing that matters at the end of a day is what vote has majority and that's all there is to it. So don't tell others they can't have their own opinions and freedom of votes ok?

“Up to you what you do with them, so long as you don’t make it obvious to normal folk,” you decide as you haul Yuu up, now half screaming, half crying. “Although, I do need one of them to stick around. I got a hunch.”

“Oooh, well then!” Without fanfare Gartoum suddenly charges forward, a shadowy scimitar forming from his body, which he whips around with glee. Two shadows disperse as he cuts clear through them, their bodies unraveling, and three more of the humanoids see this and are quick to break off, charging- yet again- for the direction of where you kept Marie, yet again. One of them actually gets close, and something on it manages to get to Marie, still unconscious, but you can see bits and pieces of your mana sloughing off with a strange sound and an odd crackling fizz just as Gartoum cleaves them into pieces.

Well, rats. Might as well make this quick. “Right, leave one alive. I wanna talk with ‘em.” You put a hand over Yuu’s mouth, and level a sword to her neck as you talk louder, quickly stopping her attempts at resistance. “Alright, Queenie, I’ve got two of yours, you’ve got...well, more shadows I guess. Not sure if you can actually hear me, but I can wager there’s some connection, considering the sudden increase in ferocity. So, how about we have a chat about this?”

If you’re being honest with yourself...you don’t really get WHY Izumi’s so bent on not killing them. Half this party would be over with by now if you had your way. Buuuuut, well. Not your job, technically. Even though she BOUGHT you here to kill things- what is going on in that girl’s head, you swear...whatever. Point is, this is a stalling motion, and hey, all goes well, you could get a twofer.

“You dare…” You don’t recognize THAT voice at all.

“You think you’re cute…” the disembodied voice says as they start to take shape. “But fine. You obviously wanted my attention, and you’ve GOTTEN it.”

The shadows coalesce and harden morphing into a writhing mass of inky black hair, amber, close to red eyes, and a prim, wide dress that looked more ready for a ball than a fight- so standard magical girl attire, really. The wicked black broadsword in her hand tells otherwise, however, as is her dripping inky skin.

“Well,” you can’t help. “Good to finally meet you, your highness.”

She just glares at you, a deep and vivid hate easily emanating from her very being. “Let her go or suffer.”

We don't know anything about the shadow queen, so everything goes. But it's safe to assume that this isn't the real one.
>>
>>3965390
I never read the source quest, so what I'm thinking is that if she can use the smaller bits of shadows to remote control people, then this larger clump of shadow is likely not her main form, But hey, if it is then this just got easy, and we should do a Flux anyways to disrupt her casting to start the fight.
>>
>>3965390

Start off with probing strikes, try and bait out attacks to get a handle on her style. If she tries to recover our hostage, kill her. Better dead; at least we still get paid.

Thank you! The lengths some anons will go to try and play nice. This is not Izumi quest.

Izumi and Lori better hurry up so we can get a proper sword fight with Izumi and Junko. It would be dramatic and cool. Maybe with rain for more dramatic flair.

A big part of me wants to bail with the hostages so we can force them to come to us to the cabin.

A dramatic fight between the epitome of Hope and Despair in the middle of a wilderness? Count me in.

You quickly draw Yuu across your body flush, just in case, as Gartoum stands nearby, acting as an all-too-gleeful guard. You quickly look down to your murmur stone, shifting your sword a bit across your entraping arm- the shadow girl starts to move, but a quick touch against the throat is enough to stop it; you’re quick to activate the thing as you don’t want any more possible stupid attempts. “Just an FYI, Queen is present. Whatever you’re doing, be quick about it!” you grumble lowly. You barely hear a confirmation before you turn back to the shadowy morass. “Alright, so before we get around to that, I DO have a question.”

“What kind of question?” she asks, with a quick glance to Marie. You doubt she’s going to go for it, but just to be safe… you start walking her over, Yuu still grunting in pain and the jostling of her broken arm certainly not helping her focus.

“Frankly, I wanna know just how you pulled all of this off. Having so many very important people in your pocket? Spreading despair at this level? That takes some chops, and some level of skill,” you admit. Clearly, her martial forces needed some work...or maybe you’re just that good. Your ego demands it’s the second one.

“Hate and spite work wonders,” she says coldly as she grits her teeth. “I used it- held onto it as I made my plans.”

“For what?” you venture.

She growls. “Revenge. I was abandoned, left for dead by a girl who didn’t even care in the first place! A girl who-who manipulated me! Wanted me to-to...GAH!” the shadows on and around her burble and flow as she tries to keep her rage under control. “Whatever. I got out of it. A little pain, and a little luck helped with the start, and it made it easy to keep things under wraps,” she says, still growling, yet growing a wicked smile on her face. “I knew if I was going to keep the city to me, I’d have to be careful. I’d have to make sure I knew everything that was going on. And now that I know your faces, there’s nowhere you can run. So give up. You’re strong...but you wouldn’t be the first mercenaries that looked tough only to end up dead to me.”

Says the girl prevented from doing jack shit because three of her lieutenants have been captured or incapped. Boy, hubris is an ugly thing.

Ya know, considering how Izumi is acting right now she should be radiating Hope energy at this point. This thing about hope vs despair energies and how they work was mentioned in the world info, yet we haven't seen much of how these powers interact or how they can be abused
>>
>>3965484
We know that Hope is extra effective against Despair since Izumi barely flexed her muscles against one of Marie's groupies and she rolled over her.

Since cabin in the woods is outside the city's despair aura, then maybe teleporting Arc out would speed up the removal of mind control?

“There is NOTHING that I’ve done like them! I haven’t betrayed anyone! I’ve been trying to keep us safe, not send people to our deaths like pigs to slaughter!”

“So you say. And yet look at the position you’re in now,” you note. "Seriously, if you only knew how many times I've heard that kind of comment in particular, sister. It’s not new, and it’s not novel. I mean, seriously!" you say before she can retort. "Just an FYI, we know that you've done things to your girls' heads- just like how Arc was caught up.”

“You dare to- Arc was a special case!” she growls.

“Riiiight. How many other ‘special cases’ have you had then, I wonder? Was Yuu here a ‘special case’, maybe?” you ask, jostling her.

“S-shut up, you monster!” Yuu manages to gargle out. “P-people like you just don’t get it!”

“Eh, I get enough,” you dismiss as you turn to her. “Face facts, queenie; at the end of the day? You're no better than the one who betrayed you. Main difference is that you’re in it for yourself. Can you REALLY say that they’d still be loyal if you didn't give them a bit of ‘help’?”

“You think you’re oh-so-righteous…” she growls as shadow boils and bubbles around her.when you have no CLUE what your employers are really doing. The puppets, the kidnapping, the exploitation they’re guilty of, you self-righteous bitch!”

Hm. That so? Ah well. “Self-righteous? Oh, no, that’s not me,” you clarify. “I’m just in this for the paycheck. I couldn’t care less what my employers are up to. I just also happen to call it like I see it.”

“And you have the audacity to call me a hypocrite!?” she half-shouts.

“Yes,” you confirm. “Because I don’t give a shit about what my employers are doing. Can’t be a hypocrite about not giving a shit if you don’t actually give a shit. Different thing than doing something you condemned someone for.”

“Why you…!” before she can get started, you suddenly feel your Murmur Stone again.

“Yeah?” you ask, to the Queen’s amazement and frustration.

“Figured it out! She’s got a mental...well, I’m not sure what it is, but she’s got a magic killswitch in her head!” Ouch. “We’re pretty sure we’ve blocked it off, although…”

“...hm?!” The Shadow Queen turns towards the warehouse, her ruby eyes focusing. “How…?”

“...Well, no time to explain- we should get moving! Before Kanna wakes up!” she yells. Hm. How to untangle yourself from THIS…?

I’M your master!” the Queen raves- and indeed, some tendrils of shadow slither out, attempting to snake towards Gartoum, who...well, dancing isn’t a good word, but he’s light on his feet...hooves...as he rolls towards the girl and nearly skewers the thing- only for her to practically phase out of the way at the last second.

“Well, sure, you master shells like that, by all means!” Gartoum amiably says. “However, I’m more of a...thinking man’s shadow, you see. Or maybe thinking woman’s, considering the case. Regardless...no.” Another pass, and this time she meets him head on, locking him up weapon to weapon. “Iiiinteresting. That’s a rather advanced trick you’ve got going on there…”

Trick? No matter, you need to collect your cargo. “April, May, on my way. Get ready to teleport.”

It’s quick enough to rip her off the wall, you decide, as Yuu yelps. “Teleport!? You can-”

“Shut it,” you demand as you sharply knee her in the back to weaken her a bit more, then slam her in the gut, causing her to double over.

As you check back, you’re surprised to see that the Queen is actually holding pace with Gartoum fairly well- his large body isn’t doing him any favors, and while he doesn’t bleed, you can see...gaps, so to say, in his form. Concerning, really, but she looks largely none the worse for wear in comparison.

Her ichor blade meets his spear, and for a moment it shines bright- and then cuts straight through, causing Gartoum to jump back in what you’re pretty sure is surprise, though the sardonic smile on his face still remains. “Well, well! You’re not all bark, it seems.”

She’s about to charge him, before you quickly get her attention. Specifically by throwing out a hand, and to her shock a large, sea-green bubble coalesces around her. "Eyes on me, Queenie!”

She’s quick to do so, eyes going wide in shock, and then rage as she sees you take her comrade in arms in yours, hoisting her over your shoulder. “Now listen up. If you want to see any of them again, don't you dare to let the public know about us. Otherwise, I'll personally mail them to you, piece by piece.”

“P-p-please help…” Yuu says raspily. “I-ii-t hurts…”

(cont.)
>>
>>3967150
“Don’t worry, Yuu. I’ll save you,” she says angrily. “I did it before...”

“Hush up,” you bark. Annoying, these types. “As for you, Queenie, we'll meet again very soon. Until then, though, they won’t come to further harm." Mostly because Izumi would probably pitch a fit. “Gartoum! We’re out!”

“Hop on!” he says surprisingly, but you’re not one to argue, and it’s a simple leap with his assistance guiding you on to his (cold) horse back. He rears up again in a show of force. “A good fight, girl, but I look forward to seeing what you can REALLY do when you show your true self!”

The two of you, with enemies in tow, then dart for the warehouse, with the Shadow Queen- or at least part of her- left screaming in the night.

...although it’s not that far, really. “So things went well?” you ask as you ride up to the trio. You’re surprised to see that Arc is lucid again, although pale and clearly not in the best of health. Still, she’s standing. What’s more, she notably has Lorelei’s mana dampener in her hair…

“Well enough. Had to knock out Kanna- again,” Lorelei says. “We’ll talk more later. “May says Miss Ex-Agent is coming with us for now. Alive.”

“Seriously?” What is she trying to do…? “...fine, whatever, but you better explain this.”

“I will, I swear,” she says, carrying the still restrained Kanna in a fireman’s carry. Now, do we think this plate can really ferry all of us?”

“Gartoum, return,” you decide. Better to not risk more than necessary. He hops back in without a word, likely to lick his wounds. “And I dunno, but she didn’t put a person limit on it, and I’d imagine she’d consider that. Then again, she’s...her.”

“...mm? Her who?” Arc asks weakly.

“Nunya,” Lorelei says casually. “Anywho, if one or two of ya wanna go ahead, I’m pretty sure-”

“We don’t have time, let’s just go!” Izumi suddenly says- and without warning she grabs the transporter plate from your bag, places it on the ground, then proceedsholds hands with Arc, who’s being supported by Lorelei. “Now are we all touching?”

“Very,” Lorelei says.

“Good! Now, if this works right, then we provide it with mana and…”

You feel a strange fuzzy sensation before everything goes white…

...and then a lot of brown. Wood brown.

You have to blink the spots out of your eyes. Lorelei nearly doubles over. “O...ooohhh wow I think I taste the color purple.”

“R-right,” you say as Izumi sets Kanna down on the simple sofa; how the hell didn’t SHE get any after effects. “We’ve got to focus. First thing’s first. We secure our captives, then…”

It's just me but I like to see how Arc do interrogation. I mean if we gonna recruit her might as well start here. She has also some kind of truth and like detector in her skills. Might as well use it. Lori can be a bad cop if needed.
>>
>>3967348
I think she isn't in a shape to question anything right now. She's still recovering from a fucking mind surgery (done by first timers no less) and a sudden case of knife-to-chest.

We should get Gart out again when we have the time, to talk about the tricks he noticed when he was squaring with the Shadow Queen.

Or we could not recruit her.
>>
>>3967392

Thought occured.
What if eventhe shadow queen is manipulated? Good old Junko being the victim to an even greater poeer now, the strongest piece on the board, but a piece yet?
What a tweest it would be. After all... Her ambitions in the original quest are next to non existant by now. Control over the city just seems far too... Small of a scale.
Junko's shadow side might have taken control, as her revenge was due to the same magical girl.

He does cost mana to summon. Not a heavy cost, but something to keep in mind. Plus I doubt he wants to be disturbed right now, as he's likely dealing with his wounds.
>>
>>3967927
I think our mana heals him? But I could be wrong
>>
>>3967934
I don't think it's come up yet. I think the summon cost is to allow him to manifest a temporary body, otherwise we could just leave him out all the time to sidestep the cost. I assume he heals on his own over time without input from us; He's going to need to come out much less often if his healing leeches our mana to function. We have enough issues with mana management as it it.

“May?” she looks over in curiosity, and you see her expression drop a bit when she meets your face. Oh, so she knows what’s coming? Well, that just makes it WORSE. But...you’ll let her sweat for a minute. “Mind telling me what’s up with Arc?”

“Oh!” That relief isn’t going to last long. “Certainly. You see, thanks to Lorelei, we discovered that she had a strange link connect to her mind- one magically induced.”

“Something was stuck in her head,” Lorelei explains. “Not literally, but it was like...a feeling that something was there. A pressure that just wouldn’t go away. I heard someone talking to me...well, HER, in there, too. My guess is it was Queenie. I tried to stay quiet, and she threatened Arc if she said something. Heard Arc basically confirm the guess- Queenie had some hoodoo setup, and it sounded like basically if Arc ever said anything she didn’t like, her head goes ‘pop’. That was right before she found out I was a passenger. I bailed super quick after that and did the first thing I could think of- which was basically slap my mana dampener onto her. Seemed to do the trick when I went back in to check. Mostly.”

“That’s...that’s about the long and short of it,” Arc groans out from a seat near the kitchen. “Got good at mentally blocking off things I didn’t want her to see, but...was always temporary. I’ve been under her thumb for years now. So...thanks.”

“Hmmm.” Interesting. So the Shadow Queen has that kind of power… “We’ll circle back around to that. Right now, May? Need to talk with you one on one for a minute.”

“...right,” she says with more timidity than is normal.

There’s not much to securing them; Yuu starts yelling at one point, and that results in a towel gag for her. Her arm’s still busted; you’re not telling Izumi she’s injured just yet, and it’ll keep her complacent for a bit. Marie’s only just waking up after you finish everything, however, and that adds a bit of a wrinkle. “H-hey, where am I? What have you done with us?!”

“Good question,” you remark dryly. “May, let’s go into the other room. April, keep an eye on them. They twitch wrong, plug ‘em.”

Lorelei casually checks her pistol. “Yup!”
>>
>>3968546
Lorelei salutes easily as the two of you step into the bedroom- and you immediately round on Izumi. “Okay, you need to explain yourself. NOW. What is up with you trying to save our MARKS?!” You’re hissing, but still trying to keep your voice down as best you can, but damnit, this makes no sense!

The sole thing that keeps you from blowing your top is the fact that Izumi looks properly chagrined. “I...I just...I know.” And suddenly her energy seems to die. “I...I’m sorry. Really. I am.”

...and suddenly yours does, too, it all leaving you in a sigh. “...look, just, I don’t get it. You brought us here specifically to-”

“-to do what I have trouble doing, yeah. I...I realize that, I just...I guess I thought it’d be EASIER than this, I thought we’d just come across them and I’d just turn my back and leave it to you.”

Sounded like a plan, yeah. “And you didn’t...why?”

“Nggghhhh, I don’t KNOW,” she complains. “I know they need to be...ended. I get that. I just...I shouldn’t be feeling so conflicted but damnit all, I can’t help it! I see them and I just worry that ‘maybe there’s another way’ or that something can be done to resolve it peacefully- something that doesn’t end in the death of fellow magical girls. I mean, look at Arc! And yet I know at the same time that it’s just not...I’m...damnit, I’m so, so sorry.”

“...look, I can understand the Kanna girl, I guess,” you allow. “She’s not on the list, so hey. But she’s involved now. And none of them are innocent.” You put your hand on her shoulder, and she doesn’t brush it off. “You know that. They need to die.”

“...Mm.” she nods, but it’s listless, empty. “So...should...should I let you do what you’re here to do now, then?”

“...it’s still a nice dream, though,” she says softly.

You nod. “And it’s fine to dream. Just gotta know when to wake up sometimes. But anyway, get ready for interrogation. It’d be good to see what they know about their leader when she comes to get them.”

She looks you in the eye for a moment, then takes a sharp breath, nodding. “Right. Any advantage we can get is a good one. Shall we go?”

“After you,” you offer.

The both of you leave the room; it’s unsurprising but none of the three have moved an inch. Marie is glaring daggers at Lorelei, Yuu is frowning in discomfort (that broken arm has got to be a bitch), and Kanna is still napping...Arc is sitting at the table in the kitchen, watching over all of them alongside Lorelei, though watching seems to be literally the only thing she can do right now.

After surveying the room, you decide to just go ahead and start. “Alright, ladies. We have questions about your fearless leader. We’d very much like you to answer them.”

“Why? Aren’t we all dead anyway?” Marie grouses. “Arc told us all about your mission.” A quick glance behind you has Arc hiding her face with her arm. Meh, you’re honestly not that annoyed at it. “Like we’ve got any reason to spill anything to you when you’re going to slaughter us all anyway.”

“You one-hundred per-cent positive about that?” Lorelei says with a toothy smile. “All of you?” She struts closer, almost a rooster’s confidence emanating off her as she waltzes around Kanna’s chair, finger-walking her hand across everyone’s shoulder and back...until she gets to Yuu, on the other side. “Noooothing to lose, huh?”

“T-the hell are you talking about?” Marie asks with a growl.

There’s a chill in the air, and Izumi glances at you. Does she want to say something?

You quickly motion with your head towards the three. The intent is clear- if she has anything to say or convince them using the carrot over the stick, then now’s most definitely the time.

Fortunately, she picks up the hint immediately. “There’s always things to lose- things you didn’t even know you had,” she says, a bit to your surprise. Wonder where she’s going with this? “There’s also much to gain- even if only spiritually or mentally. Weren’t you once defenders of justice? Of honor? Of peace? This is no peace, this is just fear and repression! You can’t say you were truly comfortable with that, can you?”

“Funny how you’re talking about peace considering your employers…” Marie mutters.

“And yet they haven’t caused such upheaval as to have children terrified for their lives in the streets, have they?” Hm? You don’t THINK she knows about the stuff Marie’s accused her of…

But better not to risk it. "Look, it's obvious that you still have things to lose,” you say, stepping forward. “Everyone does, even if they deny it. Like your mind for example. April over here has experienced what your queen is capable of."

“It’s pretty brutal,” Lorelei agrees, nodding sagely.

"What she said,” you confirm. “And me? Personally, I'd like to see what sort of secrets you’re still hiding inside your heads, and if your beloved Queen trusts you enough to not kill you for spilling."

“Of course she trusts us,” Marie says blithely, although as she continues, her voice raises. “And I KNOW what she did to Arc, you money-grubbing idiots. I was THERE when it happened!”

Oho. Looking at Izumi, she seems somewhat shocked, honestly. Guess that’s her ‘they’re not horrible’ hope out the window.

And Marie keeps going. “She agreed to all of it. Hell, she agreed to letting Natalya get corrupted! SHE’S just as guilty as-”

“YOU FORCED ME!” Arc suddenly roars, her hair itself whipping around in rage. Gone is the sickly looking agent and now you’re getting a feel of what she might be like on a good day. “Need I remind you, I was debilitated! You had BOTH of us at your whim, and she not-so-subtly inferred that she’d do WORSE if I didn’t agree!”

(cont- this is a long one.)
>>
>>3968834
Whipping around, she approaches the three of you with newly-resurgent fire in her eyes. “I’ll concede that yes, at first she started out FAR nicer than I’d expected. She’d managed to position herself as something of a tragic monster; someone who wanted revenge and eventually grew to settle for protection. But all of YOU are clearly blind as to how much WORSE she got! How much she started asking for information- little things here and there, if there were going to be any agents any time soon, if anyone was looking at her. Then it got more into ‘tell me who’s nearby,’ ‘let me see all the information you have on the organized crime in the area,’ ‘let me see WHO YOU HAVE ON FILE THAT GOES TO MY SCHOOL.’” Wow, that set her off. “She’s gotten worse and worse over the years, and her obsession with protection has long given way to domination- all she wants is control! She’s no better than a mob boss herself, and you’re all her mewling underlings!”

“Don’t you DARE call my best friend a mob boss!” Yuu yells.

And that seems to set her off. “SHE IS! JUNKO KUROSAKI IS NOTHING MORE THAN A DAMNED DICTATOR, AND MAY SHE ROT IN HELL!”

The trio gasp at that- Kanna included, who’d opened her eyes as soon as Arc had spoken up. So she WAS faking it. Wonder why. Ah well, irrelevant now. More importantly…

“Junko...Kurosaki?” Izumi notes. “So that’s her name?”

“Yes,” Arc says before anyone can dispute it. “That’s her name. Or, WAS her name. She goes by something else now, Kiyoko-something.”

“Wait.” you pause. “Kiyoko...Kurayami?” Was it really?

“Yeah, that’s it,” Arc confirms, and shit, but don't THAT explain a lot. Seems like Izumi realizes this, too.

“You fucking blabbermouth!” Marie roars. “You damn traitor! I can’t imagine she’ll like that you just outed her to the people looking to kill her…” and then she stops. “In fact...you should be dead any minute now.”

“Unnnnlikely!” Lorelei cheers. “See, we figured that out, like we kinda inferred like, five minutes ago. And THAT little bomb’s been...well, not defused, but it’s not getting lit any time soon.”

“This is a nice accessory,” Arc says dryly. “Should be standard wear for agents in the future.”

“Back to the topic at hand, though,” you redirect. You have to admit, it’s impressive work, if she managed to get the school and everyone else under her thrall. “Gotta say...she’s been thorough.”

“No kidding,” Lorelei agrees as she takes a slow walk behind the three. “But! That just makes things all the more important for you three, seeing as, y’know. There’s SO MUCH MORE to lose, y’see, than what my erstwhile partner indicated. Like, Yuu!” To emphasize who specifically, she walks around to the person in question, taps them on the shoulder. “Question!”

“You won’t get an-agh...an answer from me!” Yuu says defiantly.

“How’s your mom? Not serving any more prison time, I hope?” Lorelei asks out of the blue casually.

Yuu’s face goes white as a sheet. “W...what?”

“And your pops? He back from that business trip in Bali yet?” She’s got a casual smile on her face, and the other two’s faces go stark as the implications set in. “Because I know he goes on those looong trips, and well, it’s GOTTA be doing something to your mom’s mental health. She misses him sooo much. Sometimes starts getting rowdy, after all, am I right?”

“...you wouldn’t.” Yuu says softly.

“Hey, I didn’t say I’d do anything!” Lorelei continues innocently. “I’m just talking! She’s been so lonely, just...it’d suck if say he, y’know. Never made it back." she shrugs. "Maybe an engine catches fire or something. Maybe he gets caught up in some unfortunate violence during his stay. Hell, maybe he gets here, but his cab from the airport has a horrible accident. Life’s crazy, y’know!” She’s still got that same all-too-innocent smile on her face. "Point is, wouldn't it be waaay better to be sure you can go see him if he DOES make it back?"

"Really, April...?" Izumi mutters. "To go so far?"

“Not now, May,” you mutter as you look upon Yuu’s panicked and near hyperventilating face.

“Y-y-y-ou’re...you…?” Yuu’s trying to get something out, but-

“S-she’s bluffing!” Marie yells. No explanation why or how, though. “She...they…can’t!” Had a hard time finishing that sentence- but you should probably step in here.

"Yes, we COULD." You simply stare down Marie briefly, before turning to Yuu, and finally Kanna, who looks particularly nervous herself, curiously. "See, you naughty ladies started this. WE are here to finish it, whether you like it or not.” You turn to Yuu, who’s still clearly trying to figure out SOMETHING to say. “Y’see, that's how gangs work, Yuu. If you didn't want the things you cared for to be at risk, you shouldn't have stuck with Junko and her associates after she started to do this protection idea. Seriously.” Backing up a bit, you eye all three of them. “You can't pretend this isn't what Kurosaki's been doing to literally everyone else in the city- just now that it's happening to YOU it's 'oh no, you wouldn't you monster!' You lot are so blind to everyone else’s troubles you can’t see what’s in front of you- and trust me, if you don’t cooperate now, it WILL cost you far more than just your own lives. So let's keep this between us only and not drag more...bystanders into it."

“...I...she...wouldn’t…” Yuu breathes out. She’s clearly fighting with herself, shaking her head as though trying to throw thoughts right out of it. “She’s not...she said…”

“Face facts,” you implore. “The fact that she even put your family at risk should show you what a crappy friend you've placed your loyalty in."

You can hear a muttered ‘I don’t like this,’ from Izumi, but you’ll address that shortly. Yuu mumbled something. “Come again?” you ask.

It’s only a little louder, but you can hear it. “...she can use both. Despair and Hope energy. She isn’t hurt by Hope energy as much as normal.”

“YUU!” Marie yells, and Kanna just looks sad. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?”

“IT’S MY PARENTS, MARIE!” Yuu yells right back with tears in her eyes, before turning to you. “P-please, please, please don’t hurt my family...I…”

“More you talk, the luckier I think your pappy gets.” Lorelei shrugs.

“...s-she hates being reminded of when she was imprisoned. Betrayed. She loses sight of everything else. Blind rage.” Yuu lets out. “S-she can shapeshift, too. Just the look, though. And only humans.” Ooh, good to know.

“...Junko won’t be happy with you, Yuu,” Marie growls angrily.

“Well, maybe that won’t matter!” Lorelei says easily. “Anything other weaknesses along those lines? Or strengths to note?”

“...She’s really good with magic. That’s really the main things,” she mumbles. “C-can I go now?”

To which Lorelei busts out laughing. “Ahahahahahahahaha! No. No, you can’t. Moving on for now, we might come back around to you!”

She casually steps over to...and past Marie, who sneers. “What, too scared to-”

“So!” She actually sits herself on Kanna’s lap, fluttering her eyelashes. “How ya dooooin’?”

“...” Kanna seems reluctant to say anything.

And Lorelei doesn’t seem to care. “Not great, huh? Yeah, makes sense. What about your brother? He alright? Schooling going well? He should be out of university by now, right? Good kid. On the Student Council, last I checked.”

“Don’t…” she tries to warn, but it comes out shaky and uncertain.

“Don’t what? I’m just saying, he’s doing good work- top of his class! You’d have to think someone’s angry about that, and-”

“SHUT UP!” It's a tearful, desperate demand.

I think all our girls should be disgusted by these kids. Think of all the shit they each went through in their own worlds, and of all the other MGs who made it to the intersection... and here these girls justify being enforcers to a warlord who puts kill switches and mind rape others into submission, because of what? A little trouble at school, a bad turn in a fight against evil?

Weak willed, small minded little shits.

>>3969027
They aren't exactly disgusted, but Miranda and Lorelei most probably think it's completely hilarious, and Izumi is more on the pitying side.

Playing devil's advocate here. They were young, naive and didn't know any better. And they spent a deadly amount of time with SOMEONE they were unaware that would become the cause of their downfall. They dropped their chips onto a bad bet, not to mention living in a Despair beacon.

I agree with this as well. At first it sounds like an excellent idea to save someone on the other side to fight with you, but that's how your morals get compromised and the slippery slope begins.
>>
guys, within all this rabble, we passed something SUPER important.

We know who junko's mom is.
>>
>>3969347
Are we gonna do it?

Are we bad enough girls to do it?

For real Miranda and Lorelei would totally be down for that scumbag move. Not in Izumi's presence though.
>>
>>3969353
Like lorelei said, we're her to finish this and well, if watching the news has taught me anything, is that capturing the mother of a mob boss works wonders.
>>
>>3969362
I mean, our deck is stacked to friggin' sky high at the moment. Threatening someone's mother in front of said someone and then killing said someone right in front of the mother sounds way too much for Izumi to bear.

Santa's tits, Junko's mom might kill herself for real after this if we're really going that way.
>>
>>3969370
Who said anything about killing junko's mom? Killing her would be the worst thing we can do since, this might be the only moral chain she has left. Instead we can just send loreli to meet her again, have her super drunk so she doesn't understand what's going on, have a video call between junko and us and then we can make all the demands that we want. specifically speaking: Surrender or we will chop your mom into pieces, then regenerate her and repeat the process again and again. After all -and just as junko knows- there are things worse than death.
>>
Also, we have to relay this information to the organization ASAP so that they can begin cutting funds/watching over all the elements that are related to junko kurosaki/kiyoko kurayami
>>
>>3969370
Junko kinda deserves it 2bh. her mother sounds depressed plus she's a functional alcoholic to boot, is this how she wants her mother to live? In a despair filled environment, living in denial that everything is alright? Come on now, Junko.
>>
I do wonder what is Okada doing at this moment.
>>
>>3969353
Hells to the yes we are.

Junkos mom, she got the sweet network deal from it all right? But she's all drunk because she knows it's blood money, no?
>>
Eerrr guys, Junko can't reveal us to the public, but who says she can't crank security to maximum and turn the city into a fortress? Especially since not one, but two local celebrities have gone missing, at the same time?

She'll have her mom guarded extra hard too, so much that the act of kidnapping her might as well be harder than straight up killing Junko.
>>
>>3969353
Nah, not just yet. Although if Junko’s a bit too strong for us to handle, it might be prudent to bring her mother into the picture by turning the battle into a race for her. Junko probably doesn’t want her mom to see her literally dripping shadow and commanding shadow demons. Just might make Aya lose her grip on sanity...
>>
>>3969402
I got an idea -horrible, if you ask me- but an idea nonetheless.
Let's assume for the sake of this that dear Ol' mom doesn't know from where her deal comes from(it might be the case, but whatever). If we were to tell her, she'd probably die due to the shock and the disgust from having such a horrible daughter, but what if we make her drink just enough until that disgust becomes anger, and she gets angry enough to confront her daughter(with one of us going with her, of course). From that point on, it doesn't matter what happens, but junko's initial shock when she sees her mom should be enough for us to get a good headstart against her.

>>3969412
then we send a piece of Yuu to Okada's mansion(and then we let izumi heal her, because we aren't that monstrous).
>>
>>3969419
> and then we let izumi heal her, because we aren't that monstrous.

Or we kill her first and then send a piece because we aren't monstrous.

Most of these girls ain't getting out alive
>>
>>3969535
I think we already said why keeping most of the girls alive for the moment is a good idea.
>>
>>3969541
If we're gonna be cutting them up, we should kill them first.
>>
>>3969585
Yea we're murderers but we're not monsters, we have standards, we aren't gangsters.
>>
>>3969412
Doesn't matter. We've already got plenty of leverage right in front of us. We can make use of them to lure her out of the city and kill her.
>>
>>3969642
no, but we have to deliver on the threats we made, and although practical, killing the girls is literally getting rid off of our advantage and basically telling junko "now you can go berserk and show the public who we are, because we have no more bargain chips left".
>>
>>3969670
I mean we don't really need Marie, if anything she's got more of that mindcontrol juice why would we want Junko getting her back
>>
>>3969670
Then we shouldn't cut anything off them.

We should kidnap Junkos mom instead. Put her on a plane and fly her halfway around the fucking world. Put her down on some remote unknown island.

Good luck finding her J-dog.
>>
>>3969692
the idea of cutting people was to answer this hypotetical question>>3969412. If junko decides to be a dick, we have to deliver out threats, which were sending her a piece of Yuu. Otherwise it shows Junko that our threats are empty and we don't want that. The healing part was just something that izumi would definitely want to do and well, there is no downside to that.

>>3969689
I agree with that. if we don't manage to get any information from her, or get the original personality back in charge she's going to the chopping block.
>>
>>3969689
>>3969706
Have we considered beating her to death, then using our gauntlets to bring her back? It’s got to be pretty intimidating to bring someone back from death right after we kill them in order to pull info out of them.
>>
You know, MGHandler could really fuck with us if he decided that Junko is both desperate enough and has access to enough money that a different Outgoer handler hires her out some Outgoer mercs
>>
>>3969786
who, marie? well, we already have two, maybe three close allies of junko willing to speak. i don't think its worth the hassle or the mana cost to do that trick with marie.

Plus, the timeframe needed between death and revival wouldn't be long enough for them to verify her lack of life.

Plus isn't there some non-compete agreement with the various Outgoer groups?
>>

“No!” Lorelei says with a smile.

“Or at least, not without telling us about Ms. Junko,” you interject. “After all, clearly April has knowledge that you'd rather she didn't.”

Kanna’s close to hyperventilating. “But what she’s done for us- I can’t just...

“Come now,” you insist as you get closer to them. “Do you really need her to spell it out further? If so, lemme explain. You're not on our "dossiers" so to speak. Means that, contrary to your belief, you’re not a mark. You were a footnote, at best.” Her eyes widen slightly, and you wonder what she thinks of that. “At the moment, though, you're involved, and precious.”

“O-of course I am! We’re friends!” she says heatedly.

“So that raid earlier, was that maybe for you? I mean, I'm assuming the Shadow Queen didn't put a kill switch inside your head.” You shrug. “But what are the chances? I mean, she might’ve done it without you knowing. Who can say?” Leaning back, you pull up a chair, and relax in it. “So look, I'll make it easy for you: be a good girl, cooperate...and maybe, just maybe you can see your loved ones again."

“Hey, sounds like a neat deal to me!” Lorelei says, still on her lap.

“...I…” Kanna doesn’t seem sure how to respond. “What would...you even want?”

“Not you, too!” Marie yells. “TRAITORS, THE BOTH OF YOU!”

“I...I know she can move in shadow. Make...make clones of herself that have a little of her power. Like a puppet she’s controlling in the distance.” Kanna answers.

“Ah.” That makes sense, as you consider things. “Right, that’s probably what I fought earlier, hm?”

“She...she has a lot of leeway. Okada-san backs her in anything she does.” You can guess she’s not referring to the one next to you. “Money, goods, other things.”

“Probably bought the police, too,” Lorelei wagers. “Wouldn’t be surprised.”

“Well, we’ll have to avoid those advantages,” Izumi says- you’re surprised that she’s decided to speak up.

“Aaaanyway, that’s two that understand the situation…” Lorelei says, practically slithering off Kanna and leaning over Marie. “What about you, you angry potato?”

Her response is to spit on Lorelei.

There’s a split second where she drops her smile; where you can tell she really does feel offended, but quickly wipes it off and the smile is back before it can really be registered it was gone at all. “Right! So that’s a no! And you’re an interesting dish because-”

She glares. “Because I don’t care what you say. My uncle will know to put the best security around my family. They’ll be evacuated if they have to be, but Junko WILL punish you for opposing her. So I’m not scared of you.”

Lorelei just tsks as she leans off, instead reaching in her own backpack. “Aw, it’s not a matter of being scared. It’s a matter of being SMART.” With that, she pulls out a brick of C4, and a tripwire device. “Now hold still so I can rig you to blow- really, you can just keep doin’ what you’re doing right now.”

“Wait, blow up?” Izumi asks in surprise.

> “Actually, it’s a clever idea, in case she tries to bypass us somehow.”
> “I don’t think that’s necessary. They’ll be within eyeshot at all times.”
> “Marie, if you’re not going to give us anything…well.”
