Last time out, our surviving jed and youngling made their way off coruscant. Running into a Clone War Hero, the Traitor, a coordinated assault and even an AT-TE. Despite some temptations to the dark side and the desperate situation; Dove's intervention allowed Gohl to get offworld.

Now, the small band are intending to put Dove through the Padawan trials... On an asteroid orbitting a backwater world in the Valnak system in the outer rim, you should have nothing but time before the Republic come calling. If you're smart about it.

~~~
"It is Master Gohl to her, as I am of a superior rank. But outside the order there is no need to call me that." You explain, inspecting your medical work for any mistakes or potential improvements. "Although certain people call all jedi master jedi in formal situations."
"So what, I just call you Gohl? Or Jedi? Because Knight just sounds kinda dumb." Iso rubs at her goggles, either out of exasperation or exhaustion. With so much of her face covered, it is hard for you to read her sometimes.
"Gohl is fine." You say, putting a dumb smile on Dove's face for some reason. "How does the sealant feel?"
"You're no medical droid; but it feels like the bleeding is slowing." She gingerly twists, testing her range of movement.
"And I'll help you strap your ribs." Dove says, hauling the box she'd brought in. "And I won't be taking know for an answer Miss Iso!"
"It's just Iso kid." The pilot remarks, "Though shouldn't Gohl be doing it?"
"It is fine." You wave away her protests. "I shall be resting in the crew chamber."
And the last parts of the conversation you hear while waiting on the hatch to slam shut is Dove asking, "Okay so tell me when it starts to hurt-"
In one rotation of Coruscant, Iso is pulling you into the orbit of Histol, the centre of all trade in the Valnak system. And as you hear her giving the fabricated credentials of some kind of republic navy courier service, the smuggler's supply of credits feel oddly heavy in your pocket. "Have you been incognito before?" She asks, casting an eye over the scrounged up disguise you have cobbled together.
"No, I have never even heard of Cognito." You drily state, hoping to reassure her with humour.
She sputters and stutters, revealing more of Dove's rather overenthusiastic bandage work. Before she and your youngling completely lose their minds at your stupidity; you add, "I am clearly joking. I have been involved in stealth operations; though not specifically in disguise."
She looks as if she would rather shank you in that moment, although Dove giggles. "This datapad has the list of what we'd need. Enough fuel to get to your asteroid with the fancy temple, food to do us three months without rationing or hunting and various tech and mechanical supplies for me to do some maintenance while I have the downtime."
You take the datapd and nod dutifully, briefly scrolling through it. Alot of the words on the page mean nothing to you and you're not even sure what counts as an alcoholic beverage and what is a ship part. "I will be back soon."
"Oh and one more thing!" Iso says, following you to the airlock, "Whatever you do." She grips your hand, "Do not interfere with the local law."
"Why would I-" You stop and think, the local law on this world should be adhering to the republican legal system. "Hutts?"
"No. Worse. But there are slaves here. The kind of detestable stuff you jedi will want to stop. But - that'd show people you're a jedi. And Jedi are-"
"Now enemies to the rpeublic, perfect prey for bounty hunters, outlawed and considered fanataical zelot terrorist traitors. I am aware Iso." The little bit of frustration in your voice is evident, after all; you witnessed the Chancellor's holo speech. You have heard the traffic going through the net.
"Alright. Hurry back already." Iso demands, waving you off.
>>
>>3944786
With a stiff wave, you bid them farewell. "Dove, listen to Iso while I am gone." You bid; heading off into the cramped spaceport.
The smells of a dozen species and a hundred meals assault you at once. Even a so called "clean" and "official" area such as the spaceport of this busy sector capital has a distinct undercurrent of violence in the air. The scent of blood and sweat are not completely dwarfed by the sharp chemical odor, leaving you to wonder just how many of the bulky dockworkes are for moving cargo and how many are for muscle.
On a world this far from Coruscant, you aren't too surprised to see a lack of Clones. Or even a Republic Dockmaster, but the ease in which you ghost into the crowd heading toward the conical towers of the city is still quite surprising. All aorund you, you sense a small undecurrent of anxiousness, like those around you know violence will come at some point - just not when.
Deigning to get the heavy duty purchases out of the way first, you veer away from the main throughfaire to the sprawling city. Rather than be buzzed by low flying overhead speeders or pickpocketed by the dozen or so Lumen that are using their nimble and stunty frames to good effect, your destination is along another road.
The road you step onto is much less popoulated, only a trio of Twi'lek navigating towards the vast concrete fields that house the many mechanics and maintenance workshops, factories, manufactories and other assorted ship adjacent industries. It reminds you of a different kind of jungle, where all that is green is now grey. Where natural colour is replaced by sprayers of artifical coolant, fuel and paint and the only sound of wildlife is that of hissing electronics, thunderous tools and the stomping of exosuits and boots.
A number of times you must step off to the side as vehicles transporting cargo of various types chug past you on wide treads. Sometimes they are heavy with people of all species' in restraints, other times they carry water and on rare ocassions you see sections of reinforced hull that have survived great turbolaser fire being hauled off for recycling.
It is during one of the transports' passing that you realise there are a ridiculous number of Zygerrians on this planet. More than you recall seeing in one place in your life. With their advanced sense of smell, you know that they would have been all too aware of your presensce also - but the business of keeping their charges in line seemed to be keeping them from acting on ancient grudges. But it was disquieting all the same.
You saw no banners of the Zygerrian monarchy here, only republic heraldry. But it would explain the worrying comments made by Iso if the monarchy had somehow spread their influence to the planet under the radar. Slavery, hedonistic imperialism and a utilitarian view of life was very much in keeping with the modus operandi of-
A smell stops you in your tracks as another truck begins to make an approach. An image accompanies the scent, of times spent learning, running, climbing. The very first time you made a catch, grinning with a Norrat clenched between your teeth.
The truck begins to come closer, you need to find a way to see in side. To get closer. You must know for sure, you have to make things clear. That scent, there is only one place it could come from.
You do not break your stride simply trusting your ears to track the rotations of the cumbersome and scavenged treads as they come down the cracked road. The vehicle comes closer and you confirm to yourself once more that the unmistakable scent is on board. As the transport closes in you sense something different about this load of slave workers. There is a fire, a spark, that had not been present in those who had come before.
And as the van pulls up alongside, you hear the sound of a blaster firing beneath a blanket of sound. To ordinary ears, the engine and the sudden outburst of shouting would have completely drouwned the blaster out; but when you arrive on the scene it only takes you a heartbeat to analyse the situation.
One of the two Zygerrian slavers is down with a bleeding throat, her electro whip lost somewhere amongst the mass of slaves on the floor. One of the slaves was the unlucky recipient of the shot; which just leaves the final Zygerrian with their back to you.
You consider this odd, after all the slaver should be at the head of the vehicle; not the rear. So they must have scrambled and fled here.
In a flash you see it, a pair of slaves lunging at the Zygerrians. One managing to stab their captor while the other is shot down. In a panic, the suvivor creates distance and forces everyone down to the ground/
And then recieves a blow to the back of the head from a jedi knight. Standing there in your disguise, you all the slaves can see are your yellow eyes as you study them all. The familiar scent has brought your instincts to the fore and raised your fur. To them, you must look like some desert warrior seeking prey. Rough, feral and alien.
But you speak out in your native tongue. Kasa. Where are you?
Gohl? Gohl? The slave furthest from you rises, free of restraints with the aftermath of Zygerrian arterial spray across her neck. Her fur is patchy and covered with burns, but despite the fact she is one eared and frail. The one thing they could not take from Kasa was her scent, or the inner fire of the fierce huntress queen. By the seven whiskers... Gohl.
You hear the murmuring of the other slaves and are left with quite a concundrum, what do you do. how can you explain?
> Free the other slaves Kasa. I will deal with the driver.
Hog tie the unconscious guard with the electrowhip if we can find it, then stuff something in their mouth so they can't signal anybody if they regain consciousness. Give Kasa the blaster and take her up front to deal with the driver, once they're subdued we can take a breath to figure out how to proceed. Oh well, it just wasn't in the force's plan for this to be simple.
Kasa, free the other slaves and I will handle the driver. You instruct while tossing her a blaster. With a hiss of disgust she puts it in a holster on her hip and sets to work. Leaving you to head for the door that seperated the back of the vehicle with the driver's cab.
As the clicks of restraints begin to ring out, you the force sends a warning to you. The vehicle comes to a stop and the engine dies. You manage to make out the sound of many boots hitting the tarmac and the vehicle's door opening. The slaves will be expected to alight and when the slavers are discovered the Zygerrian's infamous retaliation will be legendary in it's cruelty.
There is discussion outside in common, the driver apparently complaining about his pay being overdue. The voice is deep and booming, definently not Zygerrian; but his grousing is giving you much needed time to come up with a last minute plan.
Maybe Iso had a point about not getting involved with the local law.
Well gentlemen. Let's begin.
Without hesitation you grab the doorframe to the cab and pull yourself into the driver's seat. The vehicle operates on a familiar three pedal system and by quickly yanking the wheel to one side you realilze that a child could operate this thing. For a while, you're reminded of hyperspace jumping in a fighter as the cab seems to swing around like a sledgehammer - the sheer weight behind your turn slamming multiple slaves into the wall of the transport section in the midst of your evasive u turn.
There are screams and cries of panic outside as your vehicle's tail carves a trail of destruction through the slavers. The treads screech and scream for traction as you slam your foot down in quick succession. For a desperate moment it looks as if your going to spin out and even afterwards the entire vehicle threatens to overturn onto it's side.
But you are a jedi. The force flows through you and you do it's will.
The vehicle grinds and groans ever louder, but with your guidance the clumsy and brutish machine is like a sleek predator. It takes off from your hijack site like a sprinter, leaving chaos in it's wake. You take a moment to appreciate the responsiveness of the ugly junker, whoever looked after this machine must have been quite the mechanic.
But then you realise what you have done, you have broken a Zygerrian slave crew free. Hijacked it's transport and also ran into Kasa. While you were on the run, trying to lay low and are a species who have an ancient blood feud with the Zygerrian. Gripping the wheel, you notice your claws have unsheathed.
You still move quickly. But they have killed you, Gohl. Kasa says in your native tongue.
She takes a seat next to you, giving you sight of her gnarled right limb.
Kasa, I must focus on freeing you.
She shakes her head. No, it is I who must free you litter-mate
I am fine litter-mate. My life has been one of duty purpose and- Your tirade on the vitue of the jedi is cutoff by some kind of vehicle opening fire upon your stolen rust bucket.
From the rear comes cries of alarm and terror, rippling through your extra senses. Despite this Kasa simply pulls herself from the window with het good arm to get a read on the situation.
There are two Barqas; Gohl. Light walkers! They have EMP torpedoes! She hooks her tail around the crossbar that drivers use to board the vehicle and begins firing back at whatever's chasing you. There isn't much room for evasive menauevers on this long featureless avenue towards the spaceport and at this speed you're going to run out of road in a hurry.
Which doesn't leave you with many options.
With a quick jerk you dodge the three incoming torpedoes, the smooth ride suddenly becoming erratic and bumpy as you steer into the rough terrain surrounding the spaceport.
You almost slam your face into the steering mechanisms and dislodge Kasa as you hit something and gain some temporary air. The chassis roars in complaint even over the scavenged engine as you crush and crawl over what you can only identify as the remains of some fighter that unfortunately crash landed here long ago.
Across the steppes of Obsidian, more wrecks are scattered; each one having been stripped of parts. You wonder what happened here, in the short moment of peace before the fire of your pursuers continues. With a growl and snarl; your transport swings you around a republic gunship missing both of it's wings.
With a pair of thuds you see the wreck get split in two by the EMP torpedoes, allowing the walkers to close the distance once more. The two don't seem to be the best shot, but they're getting closer. Litter-Mate! Kasa shouts over the engine while you begin weaving between cannons of Sepratist frigates, following her gesture, you pass under a Radio tower that is leaning against the hull of the Seperatist flagship. They are too tall to pass. We will have seperation here. She correctly surmises.
While you bring the vehicle under the radio you reach out to the force, expecting to feel the calming and soothing presensce of the energy that binds every living creature on this whole world together; but instead you feel something more, a much greater connection. One that forces your body into autopilot.
You feel the blasted and scorched grass clinging onto life, the drops of water from a recent rain slifing their way across the rotting hulks of the starships, speeders and land vehicles that are rusting along the great steppe.
The slaves in the back, filled to the brim with both hope and fear shine like blinding beacons in the force. They clash, both brilliant in their bright beauty and shrouded by their blackening blanket. the two great sides of the force intermingling, wreslting and tearing at each other in the world around you. The long buried beauty of the world represented in the nature and creatures that simply exist with no care for anything beyond their immediate needs.
And then the brutal scars of Zygerrian slavery and opression; stomping the residents into the obsidian below. Butchering the unique agriculture for nothing but profit and selfishness. The cruelty of the occupants has corrupted the very aura of the planet itself and in this moment of unprecedented connection ot the force you feel it. A poison has seeped into the every crack and orifice of this planet. A sickly wound that has begun to smell and rot and-
WHAT ARE YOU DOING LITTER-MATE? Kasa screams, practically leaping across the vehicle's cab to wrest the vehicle back on track. Whatever allowed the force to drag you into it so deeply and completely; it caused you to more than hesitated. You stopped dead for a few seconds and almost doomed the men and women who put their faith in you.
So, you quickly tear the radio tower down - with the same difficulty you would toss aside a mere rag. The force leaps at your command, almost eager to please. You hear the sound of metal on metal, then a hissing scream of feline terror. From the rearview mirror; you see that the antenna has landed on the walker perfectly and that the warped mass of scrap is now alive and sparking into an explosion.
The other walker pauses, clearly unnerved. Before it begins looking for another route to chase your vehicle down.
Taking a moment, you press your head against your litter-mate's. The two of you closing your eyes at the moment of calm, taking comfort in a show of faith and vulnerability coded into a culure older than bipedal Noorian life. Though you don't need to speak, you feel compelled to - not wanting your parting to be silent. Lead them well, Kasa. It is not spoken as an order, but it carries the weight of one.
Walk softly Gohl and keep your claws sharp. She offers in kind. Her ear flat to her head as you drop down from the driver's seat of the vehicle and onto the slick obsidian.
You stand dead still until you hear the slam of the vehicle door behind you.
The Zygerrian walker headed to it's left after you crushed it's compatriat, so whatever path it finds through the hull of the freighter would be in that direction. As you head that way, you hear the engine of the stolen transport fire up and begin pounding it's way across the steppe. Though this world is small, it is still a planet; with that knwoledge, you know that if anyone would be able to hide from Zygerrians, it would be Kasa.
So you know that those lost souls are in good hands. Even if you would love nothing more for a familiar and safe face in this uncertain future you face, she had her own destiny. Her jungles lie far from your own, so you must split the pride.
And speaking of, you hear the mechanical legs of the walker drawing closer.
As you enter the walker's line of sight you hear the mechanical cry of hydraulics and axels spinning in concert. Glancing to the left you see that the Zygerrians had fitted the machine with multiple weapons for different situations. The head of the walkers turns while switching it's arsenal, heavy steps causing the ground to tremble as it enters into a footrace with a Noorian.
Clearly the pilot did not listen to the stories.
Dropping to all fours you pounce onto a sharp rock and up to what was once a tractor beam, picking up pace with every passing moment. From your new perch you are now at the height of the walker as you revel in the feeling of a proper chase.
You leap, a fracttion of a second before the red laser strikes where you were a second before. Pouncing to the top of some kind off scrapped pylon. With perfect balance you land and again beat out the walker pilot's trigger finger by pouncing away to a low platform dug into the step at a steep angle.
With one set of claws you manage to control your descent slightly, sliding down the slick and rusted surface. The walker bears down upon you, firing a couple of wide shots that you do not even need to dodge. The wind flows through your fur, pulling your feature back into an elated snarl - the speed, the velocity, the force in tune with your every desire!
This is the life you remember from before the clone wars.
Your joy is disrupted by the sound of the vehicle changing it's arsenal for a second time. Just before you reach hard ground and begin to sprint on all fours once more, you hear a solid THWOOMP. Apparently the current weapon's payload is some kind of weighted and electrified net designed for catching escaped slaves.
He has lead your perfectly, you have no choice but to use your abilities to their fullest and reveal yourself as a jedi!
Raising a hand, you call upon the force. Without the time to gather your concentration or centre your mind; it is not your usual manipulation of the interweaving fibres beneath the surface of everything - more of a sharp tug on the fabric of reality.
And the net stops in mid air before tumbling to the ground in a bundle of useless tech and rope. It is something, watching a mechanised walker with three different loadouts of heavy weaponry take a stumbling step backward in fear.
Stepping forward, you're quite surprised when you hear the whine of an announcement system, "I-it's a jedi!" You frown, unsure whether he hit the outside broadcast in fear, or because he was also; "Command; the Noorian is a blasted jed-"
You reach out with the force and crush the leg of the walker, toppling the vehicle on it's side. This time you sprint bipedally, leaving your hand free to ignite and wield your lightsaber. The small bulkhead offers little resistance as you begin to slice into the cockpit.
The breaching is swift and seamles, but punctuated by the Zygerrian pilot panicking and praying for mercy to their savage overlords and religious figureheads. The display of foolish thesis is distasteful to you, even as you see them make protective and warding gesture.
It is a male Zygerrian, out of their maturing cycle by at least three years. Young enough to be foolish, but far too old to be considered innocent of their choices and misdeed.
Kill him.
Make him suffer for what they did to Kasa
