Previous threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=One%20Piece%20Bounty%20Photographer%20Quest

Cover-art kindly provided by our noble artiste, Draw-anon, who generously took time off repainting the Sistine Chapel for us. Look upon our prettyboy protagonist. Look upon his devilish smile and despair.

In last thread’s episode of The QM Is Terrible At Scheduling, our handsome hero COMMANDER FLASHMAN made a flashy return to a flashy hotel in Water 7. Tragically, he wasn’t able to meet Zolo, because the also handsome Karasu (ca-caw!) had got into a duel with said pirate and lost Wado to him. Bummer.

In any case, with Flashman scarfing down a delicious breakfast and lamenting his lack of badass flying ship, which the Merry apparently now is (wat?), we continue with the thrilling adventures of...

>our dashing protagonist, Harry Flashman!
>our sworddad, Nolastname Klaus!
>our dynamic and plot-irrelevant duo, Hat and Sunglasses!
>our latest Shichibukai, Fireplace Abs!
>someone else (you gotta say who)!

Apologies for the horrible delay, everyone, life is out to kick my arse. Hopefully a long run today, but I’ll be pulling long shifts for the rest of the week and probably weekend, so I’ll try to fit updates in as much as I can. We’ll likely have a training timeskip (a couple of weeks or so) coming up soonish, but that may be next thread. We’ll see!

>it's good to be back in this den of depravity

"So the Revolutionaries were here?"

Fireplace shrugs at your question, maybe a little self-consciously. "Something about a slave owner who was getting his ship repaired by the Galley-La company? I dunno, it's not like I have anything to do with Revolutionaries. Obviously." He shoves a forkful of bacon into his mouth and stares you in the eye.

Yeah, you can't see any reason for Abs to lie to you about that. Seems legit.

"So," Sunglasses pipes up, "what's the plan now? We heading back to the White Mist?"

"They'll probably pick us up here soon, unless we arrange otherwise. Maybe a couple of days." Klaus waves in your general direction. "Unless Smo-kun gives an order, it's basically Mr Ranking Officer here's decision."

You sketch a bow, to which Hat and Sunglasses politely applaud.

"Soooooo?" Hat looks at you, obviously eager to know what the hell you're going to do now. To be fair, you rarely know what you're going to do (or what you're doing), either.

>We'll meet up with the White Mist when it arrives!

You have a Plan, with a capital P. "We're going to take a detour to a little island that's having some orphanage trouble..."

Hat frowns. "Is that... an actual duty?"

"No, I just want to threaten the landlord into being less of a shitbag," you cheerfully explain.

"That's probably illegal," Klaus says, not actually sounding all that bothered.

"You're all welcome to be somewhere else when I do it!"

"I'm just gonna assume I'm not meant to be hearing this," Abs mumbles around his second helping of breakfast heavenliness.

To be fair, Abs IS basically a hobo right now. Poor Shichibukai without even a cool castle to lurk in. So sad.

>4-3 split for Abs, tentative split-up soonish but I'll leave it open for now and he can separate on the island or whatever. Did I name the island? I can't even remember. Oh well!

Breakfast is hurriedly finished, not because of any particular haste, but just because it's damn good and you all want to shovel it down your throats. Why can't you have a Sanji-esque cook on the Mist? So cruel...

Minashigo island is two days away, and with a number of ships having been dry-docked in Water 7 over the course of the Aqua Laguna, they're eager to leave as soon as possible.

You at least manage to restock on that evil, eye-gouging salt before conditions become safe enough that the relieved merchant captains are willing to set sail, and board a trader's ship. It's a wonder just how many doors an officer's uniform opens.

>ca-caw, it's- no wait, it's flashy to the rescue!

The merchant vessel is happy to have several Marines along to protection, happy once they find out Klaus is an ex-Commodore, and somewhat less happy to have a Shichibukai along for the ride. (Seeing as he's actually polite and apparently sets ou to charm them with overt friendliness and a lack of setting them on fire, they relax a little, although you're not sure if that'll last when they find out how much he eats.)

Sucks to be them.

You're lounging around on deck, watching Klaus run out minions through a new drill, when the look-out yells, and all free hands race to positions - either to pull up the sailors sighted on a lifeboat, or defend the ship if it's a trap.

"I just wanted ONE peaceful day," you complain, which is a blatant lie. You're definitely up for stabbing/shooting some pirate dumbass if they decide to attack- but unfortunately, as the trio of tired, scared men get aboard, it's obvious they're exactly what they seem; civilian survivors of a lost ship, all other hands dead or missing.

The mood takes a turn for the worse as you linger close to hear their frightened rambling to the merchant captain; not weather, not sea-kings, but a small pirate ship desperate for supplies and working on sheer bloodlust.

And led by a fat, ugly guy who obliterated their mainmast with some kind of weird, darkness-spewing bullshit so they couldn't escape.

Ah. You bite your lip. Now that's a description that's a little familiar. The problem is that as the guy who wrecked a Shichibukai before he had to flee Garp, this is more than just some small fry...

>Whatever he's planning, this Blackbeard guy is too dangerous to leave him to it. If you can figure out where he's heading, maybe you can get on his tail...? At the very least, he needs a photo, right?

Who knows. Maybe if we're lucky, we can sink their lifeboat, watch them drown and spin it for kudos and/or a promotion.
We need to outrank Smoboss at some point so we can see his head explode... with pride? And joy, at seeing us do so well. Let's go with that.

I doubt we're that lucky, but I can dream, damn it.

>onwards to orphan island! (that's literally what it's called, no-one appreciates my expert naming criteria)

"Aaaaaand we're staying the hell away from this one," you mutter to your minions and Klaus. The former nod fervently, the latter clapping you on the back.

"Prettyboy, that's the smartest thing you've said in a month."

Klaus is fired. Rodent is your dad now.

The surviving crew members are hurried below-decks for food and any medical treatment, while you head off to your quarters to report the event to the local base, with the help of Mr Speedy (what a guy). By the time Fireplace finds out what's going on (if he even does), Blackhead or whatever should be well out of reach and not worth chasing after.

You should be able to train tomorrow, with your arm feeling far better - although Observation is still out of action - which brings you to your next (of many) issues.

You're pretty damn sure metal-cutting is Armament. And air slashes. Which means Klaus CAN use Armament, he's just been stuck in Basic Mode because he didn't know any better.

... Mustn't rub this in his face. Mustn't rub this in his face.

"Heeeeeeey," you say, totally not rubbing this in his face, as you attempt to sneak up behind him on the first night aboard. It doesn't work, because SOMEONE still has functioning Observation. Hint: it's Klaus.

He doesn't glance up from the important task of making Rodent do running jumps through barrel hoops. You're a little concerned. "Yeah?"

>be BORING, booooooo

You settle down besides the swordhobo as his rat flings itself gleefully through another raised hoop. Is this a work-out routine? "So. I was kind of doing some Armament training recently, and I've come to what I think is an accurate conclusion about some other sword stuff..."

And then, being the nice, charming angel that you are, you politely lay out your belief that Klaus is a dumbass who's been using Armament for a couple of decades without even realizing it. You don't say the dumbass part, though. You enjoy not being stabbed.

Klaus, having slowly turned to look at you throughout your findings, just stares.

You stare back. "... Are you okay?"

He closes his eyes, expressionless. "I'm gonna dropkick myself overboard."

"That sounds... impressively flexible."

"Unlike me thought processes, apparently." He opens his eyes again, mouth twisting to a scowl. "I need to up my own training, as well as yours."

You perk up. "You think I'm right?"

"Most likely. Even if you ARE wrong, though... I should still probably try to get a better handle on Armament, seeing how far we're getting into the Grand Line, and how you're picking fights with lunatics like Mihawk."

"Ca-caw," you solemnly say, blessing him with a finger-gun.

"... Exactly."

(Klaus now aware of his blatant ignorance! Hurrah! You can improve his training speed by actively assisting.)

Rodent gives a tentative squeak, and Klaus holds a barrel hoop back up. "Three more jumps, and you'll get a handful of peanuts," he informs the thrilled rat, who happily complies. ...This is weird, right?

Well, it's still nice and peaceful. The waves are steady, barely noticeable here below-decks, weather calm for once.

Hey I'm reading though the archives ATM and have some ideas for special moves for Flashman.

>Billiards Counter: A more defensive version where Flashman redirects a bullet fired at him.
>Billiards Trickshot:After using OH to predict the right oath Flashman fires Pistol-chan and uses whatever is in the area to redirect the bullet.
>Cross Slash. A combination of twohanded Flying Slashes and aidontsuck. First Flashman launches one diagonal Flying Slash before changing weapons and launching a second one with a bit more speed so that the target at the same time as one single cross-shaped slash.
>Electric Cross: Same as the last move but with electricity from his DF added to it. Assuming that doesn't include the risk of anyone finding out what his powers actually are.
>>
>>3934593
What if we base our attack names off mythological creatures, kinda fits with the whole Arthur thing too. So like maybe instead of calling it billiards, we charge it with electricity and call it fairy dance or something, using observation and magnetism to shoot electric bullets everywhere and curve em around all weird.
>>

You sit with Klaus and the world's most oddly-named rat in a silence that eventually becomes a little more comfortable, even if you're both still clearly avoiding Emotional Discussions. Sure, it would probably be better to do before you're back on the White Mist, but let it never be said you're not both experts in avoiding uncomfortable logical actions!

... Screw it, you're going to bed.

Training the next day starts at 6am sharp, and Klaus doesn't even have to drag you out of bed for it, you're so eager to test your arm.

It's... pretty all right. By which you mean you're (not literally) on fire. Despite the lack of Observation, Klaus runs you through your normal Mata, then straight through into some new moves, which you follow like the expert in badassery that you are. And sure, maybe that's a little something to do with the fact you got your ass kicked by Zolo (or Karasu did), but who cares? Even Klaus looks mildly impressed by your technique and speed today.

(Swordsmanship +1! Pouncing Racoon Style +2! General Fitness +1! Armament +1, DC lowered to 81! Ka-tan Awakening +1!)

By the time you take a well-earned break, you're confident you're at least a little better than you were when fighting Zol- Zoro, even without taking the injured arm into account.

Next up, while you're resting; helping Klaus get a grip on Armament like the kind and benevolent student/son that you are.

>75 + 13 combat teaching + ... 5 new papa bonus = 93. No, you don't get rivalry bonus for this because you're teaching someone else rather than training yourself.

Klaus takes to Armament like a duck to a puddle. He may not be quite in his element, but he's making obvious progress with the shifted mindset (and probably inspired by the horrifying realization that you're far better than him at this).

He only manages a brief few flickers of Armament, but the fact he's managed to manifest it at all is impressive for the first lesson, especially as it doesn't seem to wear him out anywhere near as quickly as it does for you.

Hopefully by the time you make Captain, your Armament will be far more easy to hold onto! But for now, you internally sulk about your Haki reserves.

(Combat Teaching +2! Klaus' Armament confirmed and started successful training!)

What to do while Klaus is glaring at his current sword and trying to make it all... Armamenty? What to doooo...?

You could practice a lot of things. You could go read a book. You could torment your beloved minions. Or... you could work on your ability to switch weapons mid-combat so you don't have to restrict yourself to a couple of types in each fight.

Sure, you've already got a GOOD chance of easily swapping weapons out, but it isn't perfect, and a badly-timed fumble could leave you with worse than a temporarily injured arm.

Screw it. This'll help with a whole bunch of things. Gotta have your basics mastered, right?

With your drive to give your precious children equality turned up to MAXIMUM AUTISM, you take a deep breath, rest your hands on your Lightning Dials, and -

Become the god of dexterity, apparently.

Cutchan-Katan-Fantwins-Jittesan--

Lightning turning to metal, or switching from one hand to the other, storing or retrieving them from sheathed or Dials, you blaze through a full session like Smoboss through his cigars after you've just pulled something stupid. (Again.)

You are become Harry Switchman, Switcher of Weapons.

(Ambidextrous update; weapon-switching now at 100%, will never fail to split-second switch a weapon under reasonable circumstances including mid-combat! General dexterity increase! Unarmed Combat +2! Starting bonus with new weapons increased from +5 to +8! Battle Fans +2 due to increased dexterity! Whips and any other flexible/chained weapons improved to +10 due to increased dexterity! GGnM: Lightning increased to C.8! Perception +1! You look really fucking cool while switching weapons mid-combat!)

... Damn, you're awesome.

Pretty sure it's a general skill for weapon swapping, not just for swapping with Dials. And the best way to keep it a secret is to leave no witnesses
>>
There is no cap, we need a shortbow a longbow a crossbow a butter knifr, bottles, kitchen knives, a dagger, bostaff, longstaff, spear, halberd, chakram, hoolahoop, escape boat, coffin, yo-yo, and finally ballon-sword-sama

Yeah but when we finally get that weapon consolidation, Flashman instantly becomes a monster of flexible combat. See, I gave a little thought to something Mibird said when we tried to use Observation on him: Our range of potential moves is incredibly limited when we're facing down somebody of his caliber, so Observation does effectively nothing. What if it wasn't? We saw firsthand the effects of using Observation on somebody who has an arbitrarily high number of potential moves to make. We can do that, except exponentially. It's not just 10,000 moves with a weapon, it's 10,000 moves per weapon, for ten different weapons, with the ability to switch it up mid-sequence.

I want to be able to give Katakuri a migraine just by walking into viewing distance. I want anybody trying to use Observation when Flashman is on the field to fall into a coma.
>>
>>3937522
We could probably make it even more seizure inducing if we could throw in the "styles" of every different persona we end up making
Like, Arthur and Karasu would probably wield a rapier or a katana differently
>>
Oh that's very fair... wonder if bp will let the chaos affect obs. Users though, does using the lightning logos with our weapons count as a separate style too?
>>
>>3937522

>>

>>
>>3937750

>>
>>3937754
I dunno man, I don't really want to get temporal dynamics into this. I always figured it was just hyperbole and he was just REALLY REALLY GOOD at working out which potential future was the statistically likely one, and constantly re-evaluated on the fly in such a fashion that for all intents and purposes, he can see the future.

At least that would still break down if you completely overload the variables.
>>
>>3938214
>I don't really want to get temporal dynamics into this.
But the peculiarities of being made out of lightning is fine.

A lot of stuff in One Piece exists just because it sounds cool. If it was just Katakuri being so good at predicting that it seemed like precognition they probably would have mentioned it at some point.

>hello hat hello sunglasses hello 96 SCIENCE

You'll dock late today, but for now... you probably shouldn't train anything TOO destructive on the ship. Not around civilians who, although likely Grand Line natives, might panic if you start throwing air slashes around.

Instead, you head over to Hat and Sunglasses to assert your dominance as their superior officer/aniki. Or to talk to them. Same thing.

It's a casual talk, the pair taking a break from their own training - just swords, no Logia - but it's nice to discuss their upcoming officer's exam and training without the imminent panic of whatever bullcrap you've got yourself caught up in. Or having to say caw every few words.

(Increase to beautiful subordinate bonds, uwu~ improved training for minions, increased likelihood of passing exams)

SCIENCE comes next, when conversation ceases and they return with renewed vigour to stabbing the air.

Whether it's your refreshed mind or the words mysteriously changed overnight, as you settle down with your book on SCIIIIEEEEENCE, you discover that it seems to be making a lot more sense than usual. In fact, you think you understand better how to control your lightning now you understand electricity's nature a little better...

(GGnM: Science increased to B.1! GGnM: Lightning increased to C.6!)

Guys, it's cool. Anon is right that this quest IS middling quality at best. I started it as an experiment to force myself back into writing with no real plan, and what little I had of one went swiftly off the rails. And I'm cool with not not having a superior quest, because I don't have the time or energy to put real effort into planning and writing quality plots and posts! You guys are also right, though, that deliberately coming into something you KNOW you won't like and then bitching about it is really pathetic and kind of amusing to watch.

There was a fantastic One Piece quest at the same time mine started, and regrettably it died. If someone wants to do an OP quest and can make a quality one, I'd happily play it. Hell, there's a lot I'd have done differently with this one if I'd known it would survive more than three threads. So if anon is actually, genuinely aggrieved over what this quest COULD have been instead of puns and stupidity, they should take the energy they spend trolling and make a quest of their own instead.

Update later, RL is made of fail!

>"Quests aren't novels so they shouldn't have any form of creative integrity or quality whatsoever!"
Interesting, so you desire to feed on garbage?

If your story isn't even cohesive and has the worst case of a betrayed premise since they needed to go back to the past in Back to the Future Part II, you might want to take a good long look at what exactly you're wasting your time for.
The characters feel flat and two-dimensional, which is interesting, considering the majority are based on interesting characters.
Flashman himself is just a conflicting mess of traits who is also a walking plot device at this point and has bloodline bullshit going on that would make even Kubo blush.
>>
>>3940983
Sure sure, whatever you say. Keep talking and making yourself seem like a turbo-autist. I'm going to go to sleep and enjoy my life. You keep trying to shitpost or whatever it is you think you're doing.
>>
>>3940983
>Flashman himself is just a conflicting mess of traits who is also a walking plot device at this point and has bloodline bullshit going on that would make even Kubo blush.
Gee, its almost like hes a character controlled by random rolls of an anonymous mass of people posting on Mongolian goat herding forum.
Oh, wait.
>>
>>3940985
Wow! His character is completely controlled by RNG! That makes him great and not dreadful! Wow!
>>
>>3940986
That explains his actions, motivations and why they are so wild and inconsistent.
Almost everything that makes him the way he is is either a result of people itt choosing one option over others or rolling a dice.
You cant compare this to a character that was planned and conceptualized even before an author got down to writing the story.
Flashman was created live, by people here, piece by piece as the story was progressing and this process continues still and will continue until the quest is over.
You are looking at this without taking any of this into consideration.
>>
>>3940995
Anon, thats no defence for Flashman being a shitty Marty Stu.
In fact, it makes him look even worse.
Other Quests manage to have main characters that are driven by the actions of the players that don't happen to belong in the garbage.
But maybe what you're saying is that the players are to blame for Flashman being such a shit character, there is some truth in that, I agree.
>>
>>3940995
lol

If you are having the MC behave according to dice, why even have players then?
>>
>>3940998
>behave according to dice
Except he doesn't? He behaves according to how people itt choose him to act. Whether hes actions success or not, thats what dice decide about.
You would know this if you read the quest.
>>3940996
>Flashman being a shitty Marty Stu
>players are to blame
Yes, I guess players are to blame for rolling 100s somewhat consistently and those rolls coming in when they matter the most.
>>
>>3941002
Merely evidence that having dice rolls for every single action that takes place is genuinely retarded.

There's no point Flashman even having a character at all.
As a character, he's about as consistent as a bipolar alcoholic drug addict.
The players itt choose to make him act like a generic fanfic marty stu.
>>
>>3940975
I mean, your "attack" is closer to incoherent rambling yourself t b h.

"Hur dur no plot, no character personality" is clearly just your own (idiotic) opinion on the story that don't need an essay to be dismissed.

The only thing close to an actual point you raised was characters' personalities diverging from canon and even that is just wrong.

Can't really blame people for calling you an autismo when you're clearly one too, my dude. :^)
>>
>>3941006
Could you post how does he 'act like a generic fanfic marty stu'?
Or why you feel hes 'as consistent as a bipolar alcoholic drug addict'?
I would really like some examples here, because so far you just generalize.
>>
>>3941008
I like the blatant troll language used in the defence of the quest
Shit like "stay mad" or ":^)" make you all genuinely look like retards and undermine your own arguments.

Or stuff like "NO UR ARGUMENT IDIOTIC" without explaining
or "UR WRONG"
What a bunch of brainlets.

>>3941009
>"MUH SLAVERY BAD."
>"MUH TAKE OVER WORLD."
There's your Marty Stu.
As for his inconsistency, literally the majority of his interactions are evidence enough of that.

It's a betrayed premise too.
This quest should be renamed, the artifact title is fucking stupid and misleading.
>>
Was it really worth shitting up the thread over one anon saying they don't like the quest?
>>
>>3941011
>>"MUH SLAVERY BAD."
>>"MUH TAKE OVER WORLD."
Well, what is he supposed to do about it then?
Slavery is sanctioned by the world government, and they are known for doing as they please.
He can't get rid of slavery by working from the bottom up, he would get shutdown before even becoming a blip on the radar. In the situation as it is, the only way to abolish slavery is to do so from the top. But there are others at the top that would together shut him down even then!
So the only way to abolish slavery supported by dictatorial government is to get rid of the dictatorial government itself, or at least replace people in charge of such government so the changes can be made.
Its a way forward, what do you thing Flashman should do to get rid of slavery?
>It's a betrayed premise too.
I will give you that, the 'photographer' part of this quest packed its bags and sailed away the moment people started (and continued!)rolling crits in weapon training.
Flashman is too good for this job anyway.
>>
Lads, please. You’re breaking the most basic rule. Don’t feed the trolls.
>>
>>3941022
>"CRITICISM IS TROLLING!!!1"
Holy shit, give me a break.

You can tell just how consistent Flashman is as a character by how many weapons he uses.
Anons can't stick to any single choice for him and he's just a ridiculous mess.
>>
>>3941022
And see, lads? It’s just that easy. Click the little drop down menu and hit hide. They’re not worth the effort.
>>
>>3941033

You lost me there. I won't respect anyone who uses that espouses storytelling in a format that is more erotic foreplay than actually telling the story. And that isn't even the part about the community there... which I assume you come from.

Why are people still responding?
>>
>>3941045
Eh Akun has had couple of gems here and there same as 4chan has had some legit good quests from time to time. From my perspective both sites are about equal in content quality really.

Hornestly this quest in particular is above averige and has the fact that it has keept active for a long time going for it. This is not the place for literary masterpiece (still posible in quest format) but simple dumb fun (atleast for me).
>>
>>3941048
Like I would take you seriously but every time someone gives you actual argument you ignore it. Kinda weird they fed you for this long but I'm goin to tak page from you book and ask evryone else to do the same and simply ignore you.
>>
>>3941080
wew

Everything you just said was wrong. Though I concede the point that this is quest dumb.
>>
So I've just come back from a looooonger day than expected of Xmas shopping and an awesome cocktail bar with a shit-ton of dry ice and fire to this mess. Woohoo! Before I eat, hopefully sober myself up a little and attempt an update which I might have to give up on, lemme just say quite a lot of things.

Firstly, yes, this is not a quality quest. This is a dumb quest for brainless fun, not a literary masterpiece. It's popcorn, not a steak meal. If you're expecting quality, then I'm sorry, but I don't have time to to write the perfectly ideal One Piece quest I'd LIKE to be writing. Feel free to make your own. We need more!

Secondly, yes, this has very much strayed from the premise of bounty photographer (although now water 7 is over I can put more in). This is disappointing to me because I wanted a low-combat quest of OCs and world exploration which has not come to pass. I'm not going to apologise for the luck of dice rolls or the number of dice rolls, because again, this isn't a super-serious quest and it's luck as well as narrative-based. That's fun to me so that's what I write. If you don't like it, again, write your own.

Thirdly, yes, Flashman isn't a great person. He's a manipulative, immature, insecure, arrogant asshole, even if he's slowly and haltingly getting a little better, and I'd run a mile from him in real life. He could develop into a better person but... players are going for more lulz instead. And that's fine, although it'll probably bite him in the arse one day.

Finally, I don't like the new Star Wars films. Because of this, I'm not going to go see the newest one. That doesn't mean I'm going to walk into the nearest cinema when they show it and start loudly complaining and berating someone who's bought tickets. If you've been here since the beginning, you've had plenty of opportunity to say 'hey, this shit is going bad and here's why'. I've tried to take note of when this has happened and correct for it. Maybe I've failed in some cases. But If you've been here since the start and hate SO MUCH, then you've hated it for a long time and it's long past any 'corrections' that could make you like it again. So apart from obvious trolling, there's no reason to throw a hissy fit over here.

In short, if anyone has something 'fixable' about this quest to complain or criticise about then please speak up, but if it's THIS ENTIRE QUEST IS SHIT STOP ENJOYING THINGS I DON'T LIKE then I really don't care.

Now I've finished spellchecking this, I'm gonna eat, back soon
>>
>>3941566
I mean, there's something to be said for being able to half-ass something and still make it entertaining. I'm not expecting Sartre or Shakespeare, here, and quantity has a quality all of it's own.
>>
>>3941566

Rude. Accurate, but rude.

You and Abs head for a place a little further out - the kid hadn't given you an exact address, but the house description was detailed, and it's no hardship to stroll along and get a good look at each house as you go.

"So!" Fireplace sounds perky and not at all prying (lies, he definitely sounds prying). "This seems kind of important to you, going out of your way and all. There some reason for that, Trashcan?"

You turn slightly to stare at him. "Dude. It's an orphanage. Full of orphans. What kind of asshole would DO that to 'em?"

Abs throws his hands up, defensive. "Hey, I'm not saying you don't have good intentions! I'm just thinking that if you start chasing after every little cause like this, you're going to wear yourself out."

So what? "There's a lot wrong with the world," you say, defiant, "but that doesn't mean I'm going to ignore something as blatantly wrong as this."

"It's legal though, right? Pretty sure you said that."

Gah. As a pirate, even an officially-sanctioned one, can't he just enjoy the opportunity to freak a guy out? "Yeah, but legal doesn't equate to right."

For some reason, Abs seems to find that entertaining, judging by his grin as the pair of you keep trundling along. It's as he opens his mouth again that you spot what must be the correct house, looking surprisingly shabby despite the same color scheme and signage you were told about. "Found it!" You move towards the gate, when Fireplace grabs you lightly by the shoulder, tone anticipatory.

"Quick question, I gotta know - what do you think of Sabo?"

Huh? You pause, scrambling to get your thoughts in order. "I think... he offered to help me way too quickly, so he's either a dumbass who took me at face value, or he's really good at reading people. So that's a little sketchy. Not to mention having enough strings that he can offer to have me promoted in the first place.
"Also not to mention I don't actually know his motivations. Also also not to mention he's really sneaky.
"Buuuuuut," you have to admit, "all that said, he seems well-intentioned and friendly. I can't tell if he's entirely on the level, but he's not a bad guy. He wants what I want, I think."

Something about all that seemed to strike the right chord with ol' Flameboy. He smiles, an untensed, genuine one, hand falling away from your shoulder. "Wants what you want... yeah, that makes sense."

"... Unlike you, Fireplace, you're not making aaaaany sense."

Fireplace snorts, but he looks more relaxed than before. "If he's going to use some pull and risk things for you, I don't want you screwing him over later, Trashcan. Now, are we going to go talk to this guy or not?"

Like he wasn't the one causing the delay! "Remember, you're the bad cop. Pirate. Thing."

Fireplace's answer as you knock on the door is to roll his eyes, so you file that under 'already in his role' and don't comment.

The knock is answered by an old, croaking voice. A woman's. "Who is it?"

You and Abs turn as one to stare at each other.

"Just a minute!" The women's crackling voice rises over Abs' yelp, followed by the sound of shuffling footsteps and a loud clanking.

Oooookaaaaay.

So her plan is to have you die of old age outside? How cunning.

Shuffleshuffle. Clank. Shuffleshu-

"I'm gonna blow the door down," Fireplace announces.

"No!" You kick him again, mostly on reflex. He's very kickable. "I said bad cop, not asshole cop!"

"You're gonna have narcoleptic-attack cop if this takes any longer," he complains, which is when (thank Seasus) the door slowly creaks open to reveal a short old lady, hunched over and peering at you both through bottle-cap lenses, a wrinkled smile on her face. The sight of the oxygen tank behind her, and the wires up her nose tell you what the clanking noise was.

"Good evening, officers," she says, apparently oblivious to Fireplace's highly non-Marine shirt and shorts. And hat. Seriously, what's with the hat? "My husband's not in at the moment, but you're welcome to come in and wait."

"Right now," she warbles, "he should be................"

You lean closer.

"...... most likely......."

Stay calm, Flashy. You're a badass Marine who does badass Marine things for JUSTICE. Like not yelling at old ladies.

"..... at....."

Maybe you should just go back to the White Mist. Screw doing nice things.

"...... the bank."

........ That's it? She finished it. She finished it! You perk up, body vibrating with joy. You're free! Free at last!

"OKAY GREAT THANKS BYE," Abs says, bowing so rapidly he's a blur of motion, then vanishing from your view. Damn, he can move when he wants.

"THANKS FOR YOUR TIME, DON'T DO DRUGS," you follow up, chasing after the errant Shichibukai, hearing the faint sound of confusion from Mrs Caliaveri. At least you didn't tell her to stay in school.

The bank itself is a small, local thing - it's also, as expected, a building. Considering the size of the town, it doesn't take you long to find, Fireplace already waiting outside. And eating jerky. Where did he even...?

As funny as that would be, I'm never planning on addressing grandparents. I've technically said that Big Mom banged a D to produce Flash-mama, but that's mostly joking to explain how stupidly lucky Flashy is. Alas.

>58, nothing happens. Shameful rolls.

You and Abs acquire a good number of concerned or suspicious looks, hanging around outside a bank. Passers-by don't seem too bothered by you, but apparently a Shichibukai is a different matter. You're pretty sure Shichibukai don't go in for bank robberies, but the locals clearly aren't all that convinced.

A few people enter or leave the building - women, couples, men too young - but after only a couple of false alarms, an elderly man hobbles out who gets your hopes up.

"Mr Caliaveri?"

The man glances over at you, frowning at being accosted by a random Marine. "Yes, officer?"

>STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM!
>We'd like to have a word with you regarding some of your property, sir.
>Bad-cop him, Fireplace! Bad-cop him good! In a bad way!
>Commander Flashman. We have some questions regarding the orphanage you lease to.
>Other?

Working until late tonight, then very early start. Will try to update when I can.

Are you still alive BP?
>>
>>3950843
Yes, apologies, I managed to temporarily lose my phone for a couple of days because I'm an idiot. Will refrain from putting it on silent in future.

Aside from that, I'm afraid I'm going to have to take a couple more days of break from this quest, due to real life issues, sorry. Will hopefully be back up and running soon. Sorry again, this has been a bit of a disaster lately, I know. Might have some good news soon though!
>>
>>3950887
Best of luck there, hope everything goes well :))
>>
>>3950887
Hey, that's A-Okay. You should only run when you're ready to run, BP.

Anyway, I'm still really busy MOVING INTO MY NEW PLACE AAAAAAGGGHHHH so break continues, sorry. However! Once I'm settled, I'll have a shitload more time for running. And yes, I have been trying to get Zoro interlude ready for Xmas. That's probably off the table now, but I'll try. The dice gods will it.

You just made a triple mistake. Impressive. 1) You ruined the surprise 2) You have made a promise you cannot keep 3) EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Also, congratulations. You have begun to move up in the world. Keep it up and you may one day own a barn in which to weave your tapestries.
>>
>>3954573
>ruined the surprise
>implying there will still be a Zolo intelrude under the tree for players to unwrap
Oho, you optimistic duckling! I live to disappoint!

Can’t wait for you to get going again! I just caught up earlier this thread so it’ll be cool to actually participate in a quest for once. :))
>>
>>3954568

Huh, and here I thought you got isekai'd into another world as a bartending spider.

But seriously, it's good to know you're okay.

*sniff* you crazy spider lady :)

Thank you! It's a bit of a kerfuffle at the moment, but hopefully things will be sorted soon.

Archiving thread, HOPEFULLY new thread on Monday or Tuesday but possibly not, in which case likely to be the next Mon/Tues. Sorry for the delay and thank you for waiting!
