AKA The next generation needs teaching, I guess you’ll have to do.

You are a professional hero, an accomplished public defender of this superhuman society. As of two hours ago, you are also a schoolteacher.

“Thank you for coming on such short notice.” Nezu, the tiny mouse-dog-bear thing that serves as the principal of UA High School, the most prestigious hero education institution in Japan. “Normally we would’ve contacted you much earlier, but we were actually planning on having Eraserhead in your spot until just recently.”

That gives you pause. Eraserhead is a great hero, but you can’t imagine him a schoolteacher. Then again, you can’t really imagine yourself as a schoolteacher. “Well, I’m happy to help out, sir,” you say. “Even if I was your second choice.”

Nezu chortles merrily. “Oh, you weren’t my second choice,” he says, in that strange inhuman voice of his. “I asked ten other pro heroes before I reached out to you!”

….

“Fucking rat.”

“Now, now,” Nezu says, waggling one paw at you. “A foul mouth is a habit you’ll have to break before you meet the children, Mr. Pro Hero….

>Keen – the watchful hero
Quirk: 20/20+. Keen can see all across the electromagnetic spectrum, and his observational prowess allows him to identify weak points in objects or people.

>Sahara – the desert hero
Quirk: Sandstorm. Sahara can manipulate sand in a wide radius around his body, not only to attack and defend but also for precision tasks.

>Acrobat – the soaring hero
Quirk: Gravi-shift. When pushing off a solid surface, Acrobat can change the direction gravity pulls him.

Dude just steal Gara's moveset. Also how long do we have until Deku's Semi-Italian Judeo-Christan Stand cult becomes a problem and begins contaminating the school with a virile strain of infectious super autism? Do we have any strategies to counter his mafia subversion tactics?

>>
>>3894735
we can control sand, right?
So, if we can manipulate the motion of sand
we can, theoretically, make a sandstorm
now, obviously we already have that ability, given the name of our quirk

but let's take it up a notch
so a Sandstorm requires a lot of motion already
what if we amplify it?
Have a very small, concentrated sand tornado that spins at such high speed that it reaches the melting point of glass
abruptly stop all motion to create a glass prison

if we apply this on an even smaller scale, we can have more than one of these glass-making storms at a time
perhaps even have one big permanent sandstorm, that produces glass on a small scale
and use the kinetic energy of our sandstorm, to hurl glass shards at high speed at our enemies
effectively giving us a gun

Also, what is the limit of sand?
because as I understand it, sand is just tiny pebbles
so logically, if we carry a small bit of sand with us at all times, then we can turn any rock into sand by just grinding it into a fine dust, thus giving us infinite sand supply
>>
My dam IP keeps changing.
>>3894827
We could create a sandstorm around our body that could act as a rapidly spinning sandpaper or sandstone that shreds soft objects like flesh or wood apart.
>>
>>3894827
sand can be just shells of small organisms so long its smaller then a pebble or gravel its "sand" but this is MHA we only see what our quirk is registered as so we dont know all the details
>>
>>3894753
If we were going to take this meme seriously if we compose ourselves at USJ and prove ourselves a competent leader the cult will not have the conditions to form nearly as early, Aizawa's apathetic approach to teaching left a lot to be desired in an authority figure, jobbing early in the conflict would provide the perfect grounds for Izuku to show himself as a more dominant and constructive force through his overwhelming zeal in battle. I'm sure that more than a few students will be turned off by him adding another Nomu skull to his mug collection but to that insane no fucks given attitude will inspire the rest of the class to even greater feats of mad laddery and in one case arouse via similarities to Dante, Doomguy and other late 90's early 00's action game characters. . As long as we give good orders and not job everything is going to be okay, at least for a while before the Kamino arc cements Deku as a legendary figure in history when he throws himself directly into the All for One fight and tells All Might to fuck off, saying that the only one that beats the shit out of his dad is him. After that we are going to have to worry about pros joining the cult. But hey, getting 「Walk Like an Egyptian」 wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Stealing from Garra would be a great idea. Specifically the technique that used erosion to more sand, even with a small amount of starting sand we could quickly snowball making it dangerous to fight us for extended periods of time, we are actually in a good position to possible kill AfO if we bury him in to much sand he can't escape and just crush him under the weight of all of it, we could even cuck Endeavor of the #1 spot if we pulled it off.
>>
>>3894837
I don't think we could defeat Endevor unless we fought him with an overwhelming amount of sand. His Hellfire appears hot enough to melt our sand into glass and render it beyond our control.
We could encase him in the glass prison or fill the air with microscoptic glass that shreds lungs.
>>
>>3894827
to expand on my sand-storm gun idea
here is an alternative that would be much simpler and far more destructive

|
|
|

this is the rifle-nado, about human size
it is small and concentrated, this is what we'll use to fire the projectiles

[]

this is the bullet-whirl, it fits into our hands
using the power of the spin, we can superheat every grain of sand in this little fucker to the point that it melts
and I'm not talking about making glass here, like actually melt into teeny tiny balls of lava

<-- +++ |
<-- +++ | <--- []
<-- +++ |

after inserting the spinning lava donut that is the bullet-whirl, into the rifle-nado
the lava pellets are shot out at sub-sonic speed on the other side
upon hit, even the smallest pellet can incapacitate an enemy
and if that doesn't work, the enemy will still be marked by little burn marks on their clothing that can be used to track the criminal with conventional methods
>>
>>3894832
we could also use that on other people
imagine doing that on the ankle of a criminal

boom, immediately immobilized
much easier to incapacitate and arrest

“Mr. Pro Hero Sahara.”

“I could still turn around and walk out that door,” you growl, but of course you don’t. This job might be outside your usual wheelhouse, but the benefits are fantastic. And being out of the public eye for a bit will be good for you, after that unfortunate string of incidents in Yokohama.

Nezu leads you into a conference room where the first year’s other homeroom teacher, Vlad King, is already seated. You’ve never met Vlad in person before, but you’ve heard good things, and so you give him a respectful nod as you take the seat across from him.

He returns the gesture. “Good to see we’ve found a replacement for Eraserhead,” he says. “Are we getting this show on the road then? I can’t ready my lesson plan until I know which kids I’ll be working with.”

“Our classes haven’t been assigned yet?” You ask, sending a questioning look Nezu’s way.

The principal presses a few buttons on the desk in front of him, and a variety of pictures, names and biographical information pops up on screen – the accepted first years. “I thought we would try something a little different this year,” Nezu explains. “Rather than assigning the two of you homerooms, I will allow you to select your students for yourselves.”

You share a glance with Vlad, who looks surprised but nonplussed. “Like a draft?”

“Quite.”

You glances through some of the student pictures, drumming your fingers against the table. “If you say so. Who goes first, then?”

“I don’t mind giving you first shot,” Vlad says.

“Very gracious of you.”

I just realized that sandstorm actually counters King Crimson fairly decently, we can obscure vision in a wide area, attack from several directions at once immobilize targets at range and if our connection to sand is good enough detect enemy motion by sensing the displacement of granules. Unfortunately we will be completely fucked if we go up against Toga with Metallica act 2 since she can pull metal out of the sand and use it to make massive drills and armor herself.

You swipe through the bios of the available students, picking a few that look interesting. Honenuki and Yaoyorozu are both recommendations, and you're interested in seeing whether they were worth the trouble. Takeda and Fukidashi have interesting quirks that you want to see in action, and you like the the look of Kaibara.

"Two of the recommended students, eh?" Vlad asks when you submit your picks. "Guess I've got to get my hands on the last one while I still can."

"Endeavor's kid doesn't worry you?" You ask.

Vlad shakes his head. "I've taught the kids of famous heroes before. They're a challenge, to be sure, but nothing I can't handle."

Vlad doesn't take quite as long to prepare his picks as you did - he seems to have more of a handle on the students than you do. His first selection ends up being:

Todoroki Shoto (Quirk: Half-hot half-cold)
Ojiro Mashirao (Quirk: Tail)

Your next five picks go a little quicker, as you begin to get a handle on the students that still remain. Bakugo’s quirk is powerful and versatile, and from his entrance exam scores he’s not lacking in natural talent. His attitude, however…that might be a problem.

Speaking of attitude problems, Mineta seems like a piece of work – three complaints from three different girls who attended his exam session. That said, he has an interesting quirk, and you’re not so old that you don’t remember being a horny little fuck. He’ll learn self-control, even if you have to beat it into him.

Komori’s quirk is also quite powerful, and you have a soft spot for wide, area attack quirks. You feel like the girl might be able to flourish under your tutelage. Bondo, from his interviews, seems shy and withdrawn, but his quirk is perfect for containment and support, which you feel often is undervalued in today’s pro hero environment. Finally, Tsunotori is a transfer student, and you know the value of having a different opinion in the classroom.

Nezu nods quietly to himself and jots down notes as you assemble your picks.

“I think I’m beginning to get a feeling for you, Sahara,” Vlad says, lining up his own picks.

“Ah, am I really so transparent?”

“Simply inexperienced,” Vlad replies. “I don’t mean that as a bad thing, either. Your motivations shine through your selections. This profession of ours could use a bit more passion, I think.”

Do we have any support items to work with our quirk? Some sand containers, or do we just break rock into sand?
>>
>>3895251
I would imagine that we have a utility belt with small containers full of various sands. We can make more common sand with small amounts, but we have small amounts of specialized sand.
To take inspiration from Gaara from Naruto, we could use fine sand to invade people's bloodstream and puppeteer them, or use course sand to shred through tough materials.
I would imagine we'd also carry a gas mask for stray materials caught in our sandstorms.

Tetsutetsu strikes your attention because his quirk is so similar to another student's. His academic scores are tad lower than his hardening counterpart's, but that doesn't bother you. You snap him up as your first pick of the third round.

Monoma joins your rapidly expanding list of "students with attitude issues," as his inferiority complex is flagged multiple times in his file. It doesn't bother you though.

Ashido is bright, colorful, and by all accounts a leader of her peers. That could be useful considering the somewhat volatile class atmosphere you're building - you'll have to keep an eye on her to see how she gets by at a school where everyone is an aspiring hero.

Nezu smiles when you select Tokage. "Ah," he says, "our final recommendation."

Vlad grunts. "You didn't put that in her file, boss."

"I wanted to see where she would be drafted with that information obscured," Nezu says, sounding supremely smug. "The other recommended students went so quickly..."

Finally, Nishi rounds out the group. With the ability to throw cutting edges from her hands, she's aptly named - perhaps too aptly. Then again, you've already chosen a kid named Manga.

Pun names. They're a scourge on this quirk society.

Vlad taps his chin, thoughtful. Whereas you're getting faster with each round, he seems to be deliberately slowing himself down. He takes:

Okano Haruhi (Quirk: Tentacles)
Kirishima Eijiro (Quirk: Hardening)
Kamakiri Togaru (Quirk: Razor Sharp)
Kodai Yui (Quirk: Size)
Asui Tsuyu (Quirk: Frog)

You and Vlad alternate picks for the fourth and final round, until every student has been selected. When Nezu throws the final lists up on screen, you can’t help but feel connected to these kids, even though you’ve never met them face-to-face.

“Excellent work, gentlemen,” Nezu says, clapping his paws together. “I have very high hopes for this crop of students, very high hopes indeed! Between the first years and All Might taking up teaching, well, this might just be a banner year for UA.”

“All Might?” You ask, incredulous. “All Might is going to be working here?”

“You needn’t sound so surprised Sahara,” Nezu says. “All Might is a UA alumnus, after all.”

You shrug. “Guess I just figured All Might had better things to do.”

It’s hard to read Nezu’s face, seeing as it’s not remotely human looking, but you can certainly recognize the twinkle in his eye. “I think you’ll soon learn that there are precious few better things to do,” he says.

--

When you enter the classroom on the first day of school, class 1-A is waiting patiently in their seats for you.

Well, maybe patiently is stretching it a little. Many of the kids are talking excitedly amongst themselves, the rush of actually being at UA clear on their faces. Your eyes sweep across the room, identifying the problem students as you enter.

Bakugo sits in the front of the class, his heels up on his desk. He’s currently berating his neighbor, Tsunitori, for failing to speak to Japanese. The words “kill” and “explode” are coming up a bit too often for your comfort.

Mineta, thankfully, has been quarantined in a front corner where his ogling is mostly minimized. Still, there’s a small puddle of drool accumulating at the foot of his desk as he looks from Yaoyorozu to Kendo to Ashido, and on down the line.

Monoma has placed himself directly next to the “protagonist” seat, which is occupied by Honenuki. From what you can hear, Monoma has already found reason to feel slighted by class 1-B, as All Might made a personal visit to Vlad’s class not long ago.

It strikes you, suddenly, that what you say now will be your first impression with the students, and will likely define you to them for much of their first year, at least. You had best pick your attitude carefully. You should be…

Nonsense, attitudes, and other personality flaws don’t belong in Heroes. We’re here to whip that out of them and turn them into model human beings that everyone can look up to and rely upon. So i thought of a good reason we are trying to lay low from the spotlight: us and endeavor got into a fight, we won but since he's the far more popular hero we pretty much got crucified for it publicity wise.
>>
>>3895566
I'll do you one better. We and Endevor defeated a notorious villian together, but we both wanted the credit of capturing the villian which led to a short fight. It was leaked to media and to save face Endevor accused us of being jealous and attacked him- which they believed since he's the one of the top 10 heroes.

Now that you mention it- Where the hell did we get a teacher's license? I doubt we could've received one on such short notice- I could see UA pulling some strings since they give teachers lots of freedom.

You just have to get a teacher's license to teach. It's the law, right?
>>
>>3895648
Usually yeah, but I feel like a lot of the pro heroes involved with UA don't seem like the kind to go get one. Maybe a hero license doubles as a hero teaching license?

UA is a national school right? I'm sure they got special permission from the government.

>>3895581
If it's like in cannon, I don't think he has a homeroom class, he's just specifically the Heroics teacher.
>>
>>3895657
Maybe the teachers just had to go through a really short test. UA can simply skip any test of competency as a hero by examining each candidate's records and move on to aptitude tests.

It'd probably help if we ever saw the classes outside of Homeroom.

Fuck it. You’re not here to be anyone’s friend – you’re here to make this kids heroes, and that means being able to demand respect when the need arises. The best way to ensure that is to make the line abundantly clear from the start.

You slam your frst into the desk, eliciting a loud bang that startles the assembled students into silence. You move your gaze across each row, never focusing on any one student but letting them know that you see each and every one of them.

“I am pro hero Sahara,” you say, raising one hand. Sand trickles out of the large gourd slung across your back, gripping a marker and scrawling the kanji across the whiteboard without you having to turn your head. “My given name is for friends and family, of which you are neither. Thus, you will call me Sahara-sensei, or simply Sensei. Is that clear?”

There is a murmur of assent – a few yesses, some yeahs, at least one uh-huh.

“I believe you all mean, yes, Sensei!”

Their response is a resounding “Yes, Sensei!” Credit where credit is due, they at least know how to listen.

“Good,” you say, nodding. “Now, I overheard some of your conversations as I entered the room. While I’m glad you’re all getting to know each other, I have comments.” Many of them go ramrod straight at this, likely not realizing that they would be judged for pre-class antics. Well, tough. If they wanted to slack off, they could’ve attended Ketsubutsu. You decide to start with the biggest, and coincidentally the closest, problem. “Bakugo. Berating a classmate for speaking her native tongue isn’t behavior becoming of a hero. In the future, if you have trouble understanding Tsunitori, you can ask politely for her to repeat herself. Failing that, learn more English.”

“Yes, Sensei,” Bakugo says, narrowing his eyes at you. He practically snarls the title, but for now you’ll take what you can get.

“Good. Moving on, Mineta.” You see the boy’s strange purple balls swivel as he turns his attention to you. “If you continue to ogle your classmates I will throw you through a window. Is that clear?”

“Y-yes Sensei!”

“Good. Monoma.” You shift focus again, giving the class no time to react. “I won’t tolerate any complaining about your classmates in 1-B. If you’re worried that they think they’re better than you, you can dedicate your time to proving them wrong.”

“I only-” You shoot him a look. “Yes, Sensei.”

“Perfect.” You turn your attention back to the class at large. “You are students at UA now. You’re here because you’re the most promising young men and women Japan has to offer. That means not excuses. It means no apologies. It means acknowledging your mistakes and working to fix them. Do that, give this your all, go beyond…and I will make heroes of you.”

“First things first, change out of your school uniforms and into gym clothes,” you order your students. “Meet me outside in five minutes. For every second one of you is late, everyone will run a lap around the school.”

The class is clear of their seats before you finish your sentence, rushing to the locker rooms in a frenzied stampede. You suppress a smile and open the nearest window, taking the most direct route to where your first task will take place.

Surprisingly, not a single student is late – although Mineta comes in just under the wire, still pulling on his top. You line the students up and explain the basis of the exercise. “Before I can properly teach you, I need a thorough understanding of your abilities. Thus, we’ll begin with some physical tests that you should all recognize from middle school. Feel free to use your quirks to assist you.”

If some students were looking wary at the prospect of physical exercise, hearing that they can use their quirks lights a fire in their eyes. Likely this is the first time in their lives that they’ve been given permission to use their quirks freely.

As the students progress through the exercises, you begin to get a sense for both their physical and quirk-based abilities. Bakugo, in addition to having a versatile quirk, is in fantastic physical shape. Yaoyorozu, by thinking carefully about each trial, is able to craft a series of objects to help her maximize her score. To your initial surprise, it is Monoma who quickly takes the lead amongst the class – but of course, his quirk allows him to choose the best quirk for each task. While he’s never able to use his copied quirk as effectively as its original user, his average far exceeds any of his classmates’. Kendo actually breaks the grip tester, apologizing profusely before Yaoyorozu produces another one. Ashida skates along her acid during the endurance run, barely breaking a sweat. Tokage’s ability to split her body into pieces renders the toe touch almost entirely pointless. Takeda’s quirk, Second Amendment, allows her to transform her arms into any gun she can imagine – by loading the softball into a specialized canon, she’s able to launch it beyond UA’s gates.

As the trials come to a close, you tally the results:

1. Monoma
2. Yaoyorozu
3. Bakugo
4. Shishida
5. Honenuki
6. Tokage
7. Tetsutetsu
8. Takeda
9. Ashido
10. Kaibara
11. Kendo
12. Tsunitori
13. Tokoyami
14. Bondo
15. Fukidashi
16. Jiro
17. Yanagi
18. Nishi
19. Komori
20. Mineta

As far as rankings go, they’re far from definitive. But you at least feel confident in your assessment of each student. 1-A is exhausted, dripping with sweat, but they also look strangely satisfied.

honestly
if we were made out of sand in addition to manipulating it, we're gonna have a much bigger move pool

think about it
we could have a final form of sorts
imagine heating our own body up by moving it very quickly to the point we become lava particles
but wait, there's more
if we're made entirely out of sand, it would also stand to reason that we can dissolve and reform at will, assuming our original mass is still intact.
we could literally fly through the air as dust in the wind
we could do that while also being lava
possibly pretend to reform in some place, but actually leave behind a glass-clone
imagine bodyslamming our whole mass, molten and on fire, into an enemy
it would be devastating

How effective is water against us? We haven't received any clear limits to our abilities such as how much sand we can control or what isn't considered sand, but if weight is a factor then I could see it making our sand heavier and precision attacks harder.
>>
>>3896994
Using the definition on Google
> a loose granular substance, typically pale yellowish brown, resulting from the erosion of siliceous and other rocks and forming a major constituent of beaches, riverbeds, the seabed, and deserts.
Also water probably makes our control less effective in terms of precision and speed considering the added weight the sand would have to lift.
>>
>>3897013
And Wikipedia definition
>Sand is a granular material composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles. It is defined by size, being finer than gravel and coarser than silt. Sand can also refer to a textural class of soil or soil type; i.e., a soil containing more than 85 percent sand-sized particles by mass
>>
>>3897013
>>3897021
I'm wondering if we can only control the size range of what is scientifically categorized as sand or our power works off a weight limit and we can control silt as well.
>>
>>3897117
I'm wondering if we can control glass, crystals, earth, and whatever shells are made of too. I'm assuming not or that it's more difficult, but it'd be a neat detail to add.

On the subject of special moves, there's plenty of options for fighting dirty as well.

Examples I can think of off the top of my head:

>clog opponent's mouth, ears, nose with sand
>concentrate sand around their limbs to restrict movement or at least make it difficult
>sand tornado either as a piercing attack or just HASAGI
And if we really need a motherfucker dead,
>insert sand through any wound/orifice
>clog veins, drown lungs, force vomit
>or just rip the bitch open from the inside and have him internally bleed out

You clap your hands together and smile. “Good work, everyone!” You call out, showing your first bit of genuine warmth all day. “I can see that you’ve all really pushed yourselves to your limits, so now…”

The students hang on to your every word, waiting for your leave to shower, change and retire for the day. Instead, your smile widens. “…Come at me. All of you, at once.”

There’s a moment of shocked silence. You open your moth to explain – you have a whole speech planned out about how they need to push past what they thought their limits were, and come at you with intent to kill, classic stuff in your opinion – but before you can Bakugo launches himself into the air with an explosion and hurtles towards you.

“Fuckin’ finally!” He shouts, bringing his right palm around in a wild hook. “I’ve been waiting to wipe that smug-”

Sand slams into him from his left, sending him tumbling to the ground. He curses and blows aside chunks of sand with explosions, but he’s too tired and too slow to stem the tide – for every handful of sand he destroys, three handfuls take its place, forming into a large pyramid that engulfs Bakugo’s body. You alter the flow of sand a bit, leaving his head and hands exposed. This will allow him to breathe and stop him from being able to use his explosive quirk against your prison. With a twist of your wrist and an effort of will, the sand around Bakugo hardens, capturing the young boy. He screams and rages, firing off explosion after explosion, but to no avail.

“Now that was a good attempt,” you admit, taking a few steps towards the rest of 1-A. “Bakugo certainly doesn’t lack for speed and ferocity. But tactically, his decision was poor. He abandoned his allies and got himself taken out of the fight.” You raise both hands, sand streaming into the air. “Now, who’s next?”

Your answer is a wave of mushrooms appearing between you and the rest of the class, appearing nigh-instantaneously. You wave your arms and your sand swirls through the air, the silica greedily sucking in moisture. For all of Komori’s ability, her quirk is reliant on humidity to function – you deny her this, and dash forward.

Kaiabara comes to meet you, his hands whirling at the wrist, but you put a wall of semi-solid sand between the two of you moments before impact. His punch tosses sand in every direction – including into his eyes, and the eyes of Kendo and Shishida, who had rushed to support him. You knock the incapacitated students to the ground and solidify sand around them, pinning them in much the same way you pinned Bakugo.

Class 1-A is beginning to respond, but they’re too tired and too disorganized to mount a true offensive. Mineta hurls purple balls at you, screeching, but you repel them and attack him with a single burst of sand. Tsunitori harries your left with a barrage of horns, but you dodge them easily and send a windmill shuriken of sand in her direction, knocking her unconscious.

A breath. To you right, Tetsutetsu, armored up, is charging you. At the far end of the loose clump that is class 1-A, Fukidashi puts his hands to his mouth, readying some onomatopoeia or another. You snag Tetsutetsu by an ankle and throw him at the comic boy, knocking them both to the ground.

More mushrooms spring up around your feet. You whirl, not expecting Komori to have the energy to make more with the dryness of the air – and that’s when you see Yaoyorozu, water sloughing off her exposed skin.

“Clever!” You shout, launching yourself skyward with a burst of sand at your feet. You swipe a hand in Yaoyorozu’s direction, launching a torrent of sand her way, and though she’s able to quickly generate a shield from her upper arm it isn’t enough to stop your attack fully. Sand courses around the edges of the shield and slams into the side of her head, sending her staggering.

Moving closer to Yaoyorozu isn’t without drawbacks, however. You can feel the increased humidity on your skin, and mushrooms are beginning to bloom on your clothes. It seems Komori will continue to be a problem until you take her out of the fight completely, and since you’re not sure what exactly her quirk requires to activate, the only option you have is knocking her unconscious. You do so with a swift sandball to the head, and the girl crumples.

With half of their classmates out of commission, your remaining students are clearly feeling the pressure. Nishi hurls two slices of cutting force through the air towards you – you dodge gracefully around them, knock her into the air with an explosion of sand at her feet, and build a small tower that imprisons her just as she’s about to start falling. Ashido hurls globs of acid at you that eat through your hastily erected sand walls with surprising speed, but your snake sand around her ankles and spin her wildly in place until she spews vomit.

Tokage comes at you in a swarm of disconnected body parts. She’s fast in this form, but weak, and you swirl your sand in a miniature tornado, scooping up her various arms, legs and miscellaneous pieces and throwing them against a nearby wall. Tokoyami and Takeda try to catch you from each side simultaneously – it’s a good effort, but all you have to do is duck under Takeda’s hail of rubber bullets and watching them slam into Tokoyami, incapacitating him. Before Takeda can recover from the surprise of taking out her own classmate, you’ve encased her in sand.

Bondo charges in, shrugging off two blasts of sand and spitting glue from the holes of his face. You pack so much sand against his head that he can’t expel glue anymore, then knock him to the ground.

Yanagi and Monoma, who seems to have copied her quirk, throw a small avalanche of rocks at you, forcing you to take your first step back. Jiro charges you as if she’s going to throw a punch, then steps back at the last moment, dodging your counterattack.

The three of them successfully keep you on your toes for several seconds like this – Monoma and Yanagi attacking from range, Jiro threatening close quarters. It’s cute for a moment, this nascent cooperation, but you have a fight to win and so you incapacitate all three with a wide ranging sandstorm attack. That should be everybody except Honenuki, who…

An explosion from behind you. You whirl, just in time to see Bakugo hurtling towards you, his face a perfect distillation of rage.

You gather sand around you instinctively, hardening it to prevent Bakugo from connecting. The explosion still caves in a portion of your defense, and Bakugo roars something about murder before raising both hands.

You don’t give him a chance. You dissolve the fortifications around you and wrap Bakugo up. It’s harder for you to get his arms under control this time, as he’s desperate not to let you pull the same trick twice, but after a moment of struggling you manage to capture him again.

“Honenuki!” You shout, scanning the battlefield for the recommended student. You spot him by Kendo and Shishida, working to use his quirk to destroy the prison you’ve encased them in in much the same way he must’ve freed Bakugo. As you spot him he begins sinking into the ground, desperate to escape.

If he was just the tiniest bit faster, he could’ve done it. As it stands, you snag his arm and yank him bodily out of the dirt. Like Komori, his quirk makes him near impossible to contain, so you settle for slamming him against the ground.

You check your watch. Fifty-six seconds.

“Wow,” you say to anyone in 1-A who is still conscious and listening. “That went much better than I expected.”

An hour later, you've gathered your mostly recovered students back in the classroom. Most of them had hurt their pride more than anything, and even the few students you'd been forced to batter around hadn't required any attention from Recovery Girl.

Not that this had stopped her from chewing you out behind closed doors. "Child endangerment" was a big concern at UA, it seemed. So was "not giving parents the impression we're trying to murder their children." You half absorbed the lesson - you'll be much more careful the next time you kick their ass.

"If I had to pick a single MVP of that fight," you say, tapping your chin, "I would say Honenuki. Avoiding me and working to free your teammates was smart. However, I also have to give credit to the Jiro-Monoma-Yanagi and Yaoyorozu-Kumori teams. When facing an opponent who outmatches you, it's important to be able to work together." You focus on Bakugo as you say this, who grinds his teeth together but doesn't say anything.

"However," you continue, "I don't think I can say anyone performed poorly. Everyone gave it their all, especially considering this is your first day. The next time we fight, I think you guys could last 3 minutes at least.

That elicits a variety of responses - grumbling, fear, weary resignation. The only one who doesn't seem the least bit concerned about having to face you again at some point is Bakugo, who clenches his fists and smiles a your words. He's tenacious, you'll give him that.

"I have to turn you over to your academic classes for the rest of the day, but before I do that I want to talk to you about plans going forward," you say. "The sports festival will be here before you know it, and I want everyone to be prepared. So until then we're going to be focusing on..."

If we're going to be doing combat decision making we need to do it right. The best way to train that is to start by exhausting them, and then providing distracting stimuli such as loud noise along with other interfering elements, and then subjecting them to situations where they need to make choices.

It's usually best to have this follow after teaching them what to do however, since the whole point is to condition them to use their training even when not at their best.

>>3898844
Actually...

What about a chessboard that covers the classroom. Everyone has a set of pieces that correspond to their power, and they are, as a class, given sixty seconds to take their turn.

We have an equivalently sized army, representing superior scale, applications, and experience.

Every sixty seconds, we move one piece for each of them. Every sixty seconds, each of them moves one piece.

Expected time 'til game, 2 hours. 120 turns.

We shorten the time as the semester goes on. Down to 55 seconds the next time, then down to 50. After two weeks, 10 classes, they'll have 10 seconds to assess the board AND make a decision. I want to cut it down to 2.5 seconds.

Make strategic decisions quickly, under pressure, and when your team is counting on you. Take in the battlefield and assess your options, then decide from them and follow through.
>>
>>3898884
>>3898887

Except we kind of are training child soldiers? Or at the very least paramilitary operatives.

What else do you call individuals who engage in potentially lethal operations using deadly force on behalf of the government? And before you tell me I'm misrepresenting things consider that we have canon accounts of heroes dying in the line of duty and we have literally seen Endevour killing nomu and he gets no shit for having done so.

Face it anons that bright and cheery image of the hero is propaganda. The reality is government backed human weapons used to keep order. If we want these kids to be able to survive and thrive in a violent profession we can't coddle them. I'm not even advocating for anything inhumane it's not any worse than what I do to my students when I teach my self defense classes. If you want them to be able to react properly in stressful life or death situations you have to accustom them to acting while stressed.
>>
>>3898911
MARKETABLE Heroes.

The current system has these paramilitary assets be as child-friendly as possible. Literal Superheroes for the kids to look up to and idolize, so that when they smash a city block fighting a villain the public can forgive them. Propoganda or not, our job is to ensure they REMAIN marketable.

That's our job. We are a part of the propaganda engine.
>>
>>3898919
Which will be hard, since we have a very UNmarketable tragic origin story.
>>
>>3898911
There are heroes who make their entire career from things like rescue and disaster relief.

Also the Nomus are basically braindead, if Endeavor didn't kill that one, someone else would of had to put him down.
>>
>>3898919

They can be perfectly marketable while still being effective. That's what pr coaching is for. In what way does conditioning them to be able to handle decision making and action while under stress make them less marketable?

Marketability is based on how they talk, photo ops and costume choices, but it's also based on results. We teach them to do the job right, and we can have classes to teach them how to deal with a paparazzo. Also you know what isn't very marketable? Dead heroes or heroes who can't get the job done.

Seriously it's like you think doing our best to make sure they survive and are able to do their jobs will somehow dehumanize them and fuck them up. I can guarantee that isn't the case.
>>
>>3898937

He's killed more than one nomu, but I concede the point.

Search and rescue are also options yes, but consider the events shown to us in canon. An evaluation to determine who gets into the hero course based on a combat simulation. Combat classes. A tournament to test their merits and from which they derive future job opportunities based on combat. More combat classes. Children participating in a raid on an organized crime syndicate. MORE COMBAT CLASSES.

Search and rescue kind of gets lip service, and it's all well and good, but the focus of UA education is pretty damn clear.

Furthermore even if they want to be a search and rescue hero conditioning is still beneficial for them since those will also be stressful situations.
>>
I'm certain we're going to get a lot of complaints from the other teachers about our teaching methods, but I hope that opens the door to hanging out with other teachers or students.
>>
>>3898956
The raid was not standard UA curriculum, but UA does do a lot of training revolving around combat.

Admittedly the raid was not standard curriculum you are correct, but they were still allowed to participate.

Personally I'd say they're closer to swat than standard cops since they get called in to handle situations the police can't but that's just me.
>>
>>3898973

I also maintain that based on the curriculum and what we are shown of pro heroes the vast majority of them are expected to maintain order through the use of state sanctioned violence with a relatively small subset engaging primarily in search and rescue and other first response operations.
>>
>>3898974
Sahara did mention that he was a horny teenager when he picked Mineta. It's possible that he's realized his sad pursuit of pleasure was juvenile and abandoned it in favor of a real cause.

>Teamwork

It's early days yet, I think we should help the class to bond with eachother as a unit before doubling down on tactics and such
>>
>>3899005

Teamwork is almost literally useless in the sports festival which is the first milestone we need to prepare them for.

Logically improving their individual abilities will better prepare them to make a good showing. Which is also good propaganda for our class and for the school.
>>
>>3898989
Heroes do plenty of patrolling and stopping petty criminals much like a standard officer. The first fight of the series was catching a purse thief. I think the raid was just a special event.
>>3898997
The reason for that is combat is flashier and more marketable than rescue work.
>>
>>3899021

Alright you do have a valid point about them having a beat they patrol. We have good evidence for that, so I will concede that it is likely a lot of the heroes act in a role more comparable to the average police officer.

I don't disagree. It's a shonen manga the fans want fight scenes not digging through rubble or putting out fires, but it is still canonically what we are shown of Japan's heroes and their training. In the My Hero universe as shown in the manga the primary role of a hero appears to be combat.

Listen I just don't want any of our kids dying. Police officer equivalent or paramilitary equivalent it makes no difference really, police officers go through training and conditioning as well. We have a responsibility to make sure these kids are ready to hit the streets and that's all I'm trying to advocate for.
>>
>>3898737
It's honestly surprising how quickly the first few weeks of classes fly by, and how quickly you adapt to the routine. You have never pictured yourself as a teacher, but wrangling the brats isn't so hard once you put the fear of god into them.

Though you're 1-A's homeroom teacher, you really only have a few hours with them a day, as there's plenty of other courses they need to take. You dedicate your time to building their decision making in combat.

"Of all the skills a hero must possess, good judgement is perhaps the most unappreciated by civilians," you explain to class 1-A, the students puffing and wheezing from their warm-up run. You can have all the firepower in the world, have planned for half a dozen contingencies, and it won't mean shit the minute a situation goes off the rails. You have to be able to catalogue information on the fly, and make snap decisions accordingly.

You run a variety of different tests to drill this line of thought into them. Speed chess, obstacle courses that you alter mid-race, limited spars against sandy doubles that you operate from a distance. Your favorite is the five-on-five skirmishes though - you break the class into teams and let them plan, only to swap members around at the last second, or even midway through the fight itself.

Of all the students, Bakugo takes to the exercises the quickest. The kid has killer instincts and is quick on his feet, and though you're worried the success might go to his head, he only seems to get better the more (grudging) praise his classmates heap on him. Unfortunately his attitude shows no signs of improving, and you notice that he eats and trains alone more often than not. Though Honenuki isn't quite as talented, he's a close second, and he gets along with his classmates far better. You often see him spending time with Kaibara and Takeda, the three of them forming a close-knit group.

The biggest surprise of the class, however, has to be Yaoyorozu. Though she excels in all her academic classes and gets along excellently with all her peers, she struggles heavily in any and all combat judgment tests. She's got a vast array of knowledge and a solid head for strategy, but she can't seem to bring it to bear when the crunch is on.

Yaoyorozu is too smart not to notice her own failures, and as the days drag on you can see it affecting her. She doesn't smile quite as wide, isn't as quick to respond when Ashido or Tsunitori asks her a question.

>Let Bakugo tutor Yaoyorozu
>Let Honenuki tutor Yaoyorozu

But your days are not solely dedicated to teaching students. UA is filled with other teachers, and as they weeks go by you start to get to know your co-workers better. You find yourself spending a large amount of time....

Not sure what's the best for Yaoyorozu, but we definitely need to be bros with Snipe.

If she comes to us for help, then we start teaching one on one. Until then, this can be a learning experience for the both of them.
>>Drinking on the roof with Snipe
We spend most of the day talking. Quiet relaxation time would be welcome.

Bakugo absolutely has better pure combat instinct than Honenuki, however he wouldn't be able to actually teach her anything. It would essentially turn into her fight verse Tokoyami except even faster. Honenuki is a decent second choice, however of course the best option is ourselves.

bakugo is probably a horrendous teacher, and this might fuel his ego even further, but momo definitely needs a more instinctual ability to respond, and bakugo can give her that
it might also help the class bonding, if the rest of the class finds out about him helping his fellow class mate. momo might also put in a good word for him every now and again.

We need to put bakugo through some type of special training to make him not a dick starting to think maybe we should have picked Shoto just so there would be someone that can keep him on his toes

I don't know if showing favoritism is good idea
>>
>>3899327
He's got combat talent and good battle instincts. I think forcing him into a leadership role will push some empathy on him.

Let's start putting him on a team with Yaoyorozu and some other, more passive teammates. Then study groups with Yaoyorozu and others to learn strategy and team bonding.
>>
Why do we, as the strongest person in class 1-A, not simply forcefully and surgically frankenstein the weakest students into one powerful megastudent?
>>
>>3899331
What should we try with Monoma? We need something to help build his confidence as well as his empathy.
>>
>>3899425
We promised Recovery Girl that we wouldn't give parents the impression of trying to murder the children. A promise is a sacred trust
>>
>>3899432
I mean he's essentially quirkless until he gets his hands on somebody maybe we should do some cqc or get him some support items?
>>
>>3899432
Class history lesson on important power copiers?
Assignment with a school psychologist?
Taking him aside and giving him a heart-to-heart?
>>
Give monoma a heart to heart, get his permission to set him up with a councilor, pull him aside one day to get him support items and then have a lesson on important power copiers. Go above and beyond for our pupils while retaining a strict and aloof demeanor throughout

These are some good ideas that I hadn't considered. Learning to defend himself when he doesn't have a quirk stacked up is definitely a must. He might actually be a decent match to put with Yaoyorozu as well.
>>
>>3899454
>Go above and beyond for our pupils while retaining a strict and aloof demeanor throughout
"I-It's not like I want you to grow into helpful heroes and well rounded adults or anything, B-B-BAKA!
>>
>>3899432
One on one training. We take him aside while another pair of groups is sparring and teach him to switch mid-combat. Talk him through observational processes and how to assess a quirk's strengths and weaknesses.

Honestly, he's better suited for a non-frontline role as a Quirk trainer and teacher than as a Hero, but that's not the career path he's working on.

So, boys, how well do you think we can handle allegations of inappropriate behavior? It's never a good idea to be alone with a student.
>>
>>3900031
UA has cameras, so just be on those. No one questions why Deku is dragged into the teacher's lounge with All Might. We're fine.
>>
>>3900031

>>3900057
Sahara's appeared to be a fairly serious person so far anyways, just explaining why he was teaching her should suffice.
>>
>>3900057
Midnight as a whole should be a PR nightmare for UA but I guess nobody has a problem with someone called "The 18+ Hero" teaching teenagers and frequently being lewd/making innuendos around them
>>
>>3900150
not to mention actually making real ass fucking passes at said teenagers.
Midnight shouldn't even be allowed to live in a school zone, much less work as a teacher.
stain was right.
>>
>>3899331
Make Bakugo class rep. Having the students vote for it is useless when it is a powerful teaching tool.
>>
>>3901001
Nah, make 'em vote, but surprise them by electing the student with the least votes.
>>
>>3901013
So we're just going to make Mineta class rep?
>>
Is there any way we can fast-track Bakugo for a college level physics class? Something basic, so he has an understanding of force and how it affects things through different mediums, and what inertia is.
>>
>>3901142
He's in freshman year, dude, lets see if we can just get him into standard Physics first, to learn about things like Centrifugal force that could aid him. Force him to realize being a great hero isn't all about making a bigger bang at the right spot, but also other, more niche applications of your abilities and decision making skills.

Would a paste bin be out of line for all the heroes and such? I haven't watched the show and half way through some of the post had to go back to the start to check who did what and even then still had to figure out the names a few times.

>>
>>3908955
Unironically, a gun would kill most heroes.
Now if there was some quirkless supergenius who actually made something like an Iron Man Suit and filled it with deadly weaponry and didn't make it out of paper mache, he could effectively stomp the setting.
