Last time, you somehow rocked it at the karaoke and then went to a restaurant with Scarlet afterward. Now out of the blue, Trent appeared, sat next to you two, and asked you for 5000 Gor$! What the hell is going on?!

“…Why do you need 5 grand?” You ask immediately upon hearing his request.
“I fucked up.” Trent says, as if that’s all there is.
“Do you need it right now?” Despite being ignored, Scarlet is still interested in what’s troubling Trent.
“Uh, yeah…?” The blonde thug glances sideways at Scarlet.
“Is it a matter of life and death?”
Yes.” Trent’s disgruntled glance becomes a cold silencing glare! The girl quickly drags her chair closer to you and away from him…

Scarlet might be intimidated, but you aren’t. You feel like you know Trent well enough by this point to level with him the right way. “That won’t be enough for me, Trent. What’s it for?”
“A guy at the back wants the money ‘cause I disrespected him without meaning to. I could kick his ass real easy, but I don’t want the trouble.” Trent nods towards the cashier’s line, a few doors lying closed behind it. “So help me out.” His gaze locks on yours. You know he wouldn’t be coming to you for help if he didn’t need it.

What do you do?!

>“Trent, I can’t just give you five grand like that. First tell me everything going on.”
>“Sure, why not? Let me go stop by an ATM first, okay? I think there’s one close by.”
>“I don’t think you’ll be surprised, but I don’t have the money. I barely get by as it is.”

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling over a 95 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 5 or under means a critical failure (only for hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“Trent, I can’t just give you five grand like that. First tell me everything going on.”

Trent looks at Scarlet first, then back at you, and raises his weirdly-shaped left eyebrow asking for silent confirmation. Maybe it’s not something he can say so freely in a public place like this? Despite that, you just nod for him to proceed with his story.

“I fucked a hoe.” Trent reveals the shocking truth…!

“…What?” You’re flabbergasted. This is certainly not what you expected his problem to be.
“You heard me, dumbass. I fucked a hoe… the wrong hoe.” Trent looks angry now, so back to normal!
“Did I hear you right?” When you think about it, it’s not really that surprising to you. Now Trent is glaring at you for real this time.
“You mean a hoe or hole? Is this for child support or something? She’s pregnant, right?” Scarlet just created a long weird story in her head. One that’s probably as fucked up as the real thing and raises just as many questions.

“Look here, bubble butt. I want to keep this conversation between myself and Johnny, capiche?”
“S-Sure, I guess. I can’t help but listen to this though…” Scarlet gets intimidated again. “It’s rather exciting, honestly!”
“Did you just call her bubble butt…?” You almost let the comment slide, but it’s so out of nowhere you can’t help calling it out.
“I call it as I see it.” Trent doesn’t give a fuck. A small part of you agrees with him, but the rest of you has you staring at him in disapproval. He matches your stare for a few seconds before he shrugs apologetically.
“Let’s not name call each other! I’m Scarlet by the way.” The redhead is taking this demeaning well. Too well…

“I’m still not clear on what’s going on with you, Trent.” You bring everyone back on topic. “Go ahead, I’m all ears.”

Trent glances over Scarlet once again before speaking. The rough punk doesn’t bother to hide how his eyes linger over her butt. Scarlet just smiles nervously but still interested in listening. “Doomsday. The twerp in the bag I had? I took him back to his place. Wanted to spook him enough for him to stop trying to butt into you-know-what anymore, as a little favor.” Trent is talking about Howie… “My plan was to have a nice time with his family, so he would know I’m serious. But his mama works late and pops is nowhere. When she arrived, the curfew time caught me, so I stayed there for the whole night – and I got bored.”
“So…?”
“I fucked a hoe.” Trent grins sarcastically. “Didn’t you fucking listen to me, Mr. All Ears?”

“Do you mean…?” Scarlet is fearing the worst.
“I fucked his mama, yeah. She’s a fine woman if I’m honest. Took all those loads raw, just like it should be.” Trent nods to himself. “Never got tired, never let up. Not bad at all.”
Forcefully?!
>>
>>3881072

“What? Fuck no! Bitch was all over me. I have my charms, you know?” Trent is somewhat offended at the question, brushing off his shoulder in an oddly self-conscious gesture. Guess even a reckless fighter like him has his standards. “Problem is, that woman wasn’t your normal day-to-day whore. She’s one of the Youhao’s most expensive sluts. Somehow they got wind of what happened, and now I’m supposed to pay the fare. 2500 to sleep with her, double for doing it behind their backs. Ain’t that just fuckin’ great, huh?” Trent grits his teeth, turning to look over his shoulder back at the doors before turning to you again. “Now, can you gimme the cash or not?”

Trent comes clean… but this isn’t the story you were expecting at all.

What do you do?

Can't we scare that guy or something? I mean, the mafia got shit against guys with entities (remember that thay got wrecked by the serial killer) and they are trying to make Trent pay for fucking a bitch that was outside of her working place and agreed to fuck him. This guys can get fucked if they think that they can pull that bullshit and go out unharmed (and remember that we'll have to antagonize them at some point with the whole Matilda's dojo fuckfest).

Nice triple dubs set, but I think Trent respects Johnny enough to think twice about trying shit like that. He's always been apprehensive about fighting people with entities, knowing he doesn't have one and he can't see them. He was like that with Henry when Henry was going around dismantling all the gangs of school thugs. He was like that with Rise back when Johnny fought her in the alleyway near his school. He was like that when he fought alongside Nariko and the others against the cultists, during the Neko stabbing events. He might have been like that against Flint when he fought him, but he was in full bloodlust beast mode by the point we saw him get flung away on-screen, and he most likely stopped caring about him having an entity out of sheer battle joy.

“Okay, I’ll help you out I guess. Let me find an ATM.” You accept! He kind of did it for the team? Kinda? No? You’re not even part of the Motley Crew anymore, so you have even less reasons to aid him… But you feel like doing so anyway. He’s been very reliable and not that bad to have around in a pinch, plus he helped you become fit and capable. That’s more than can be said for most people, right?
“Nice. Haha!” Trent laughs in unrestrained relief, grinning. His shoulders lose their tension. “Glad to know I really can count on ya when shit hits the fan.”

“Do you even have that kind of money to spare? I’ll pay the tab if you want me to.” Scarlet seems both pleasantly surprised and concerned at the same time. She fumbles in her purse. “Here, hang on…”
“It’s fine. We agreed to split the bill anyway, and that’s enough for me.” You prefer not to take advantage of her. Making her sit through your singing was enough pain for one day.
“If you say so…” Scarlet can’t help but to still be worried.

Trent shrugs. “Can’t leave until I pay. Bastards are watching me like a hawk. So bring it here, I’ll be waiting.” He turns the chair around and sits more comfortably, though he hasn’t stopped facing the doors leading to the back of the diner.
“Sheesh, not even one thanks?” Despite her fearfulness, Scarlet confronts Trent!
“He helps me, I help him. I speak with actions and that’s enough.” As true as always, Trent is not a man of many words. Hell, that story is the longest monologue you’ve ever heard from him. This whole entire dilemma must have got under his skin in the worst way.
“O-Okay…” Scarlet got scared again, and got even closer to you. You stare daggers at Trent.
“Hey, you know I mean it.” Trent sounds sincere. “I wouldn’t lie to you, man. That shit’s not me.”

After paying for the food, you and Scarlet leave the restaurant in pursuit of the ATM for Trent’s money! Turns out there’s one conveniently only a couple blocks from the diner. As you withdraw the 5.000 Gor$ out, your friend voices her concerns.

“Are you sure you want to help him? I haven’t heard one good thing about him, and frankly I don’t think it’s a good idea. You could get into bigger trouble if the people he talked about are that bad.”
“He’s a reliable guy, and I’m not the one who leaves someone behind just like that.” You left some people at the arcade and they exploded once, so… you shrug. “I… I just can’t.”
“Nghh…!” Scarlet squirms standing up and explodes into a burst of joyfulness! She grabs your arm with both hands, leaning in close. “That’s what I like about you!” The red cheeks flanking her radiant smile match her hair now!
“T-Thanks…?” She’s being too forward! What gives?!

…Suddenly, you feel a dark presence somewhere, lurking nearby. Since you’re a bit short on time, you forego putting effort into finding out why and instead mentally ask Philonune. He tells you he doesn’t seem to have seen or felt anything in the immediate vicinity, or on the short way here. Weird. Is it normal to feel like this around ATMs in shady neighborhoods? You’re fairly certain if there was anybody tailing you, Philonune would have sensed them and let you know. He’s always there, quietly watching your back and checking all your corners. Who could be making you feel this way, then? What’s set your instincts off to this degree?

“Ehm, something wrong? Am I being too abrasive?” Scarlet stops holding your arm, noticing the look on your face. The bad feeling disappears just as fast as it came. “Too bold? I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable…”
“I—It’s fine, I just felt something…” Turning to Scarlet, you shoot surreptitious glances at the nearest streetcorners and alley exits. Nothing. There’s nothing there. “Never mind, forget it. We should get going.” As soon as you take one step away from the ATM, you realize something. “Wait, shouldn’t you not accompany me from this point on?”
“Leaving me halfway through this? Are you out of your mind?! Let’s go!” Scarlet really doesn’t want to leave you yet…

But you don’t know if that’s a good idea or not.

Should Scarlet stay with you here?

Before answering, you looked up at the rooftops and balconies of the buildings around you. Sadly, you saw nothing of worth. Except one thing…

“…Boopies?” You mutter to yourself. It’s not like she’s paying attention to you, so you ignore her. Boopies wouldn’t be making you feel the way you did just now. It must be something else, but there’s nothing. You shake your head, refocusing on what you have to do now. “Okay, let’s go. But stay close behind me at all times, alright? I have a bad feeling about this…”
“Mhm!” Scarlet happily stands next to you. “You know, I don’t think I’ve said it before, but I was really nasty before I met you. You stayed with me and helped me despite all that. I wouldn’t even stand a day if I had to deal with myself at the time. I was so toxic. It’s like you can see the good in other people somehow. I like that, I like that a lot – I wish I could be like you. That’s why you want to help that guy, right?”

“You’re overrating me. I’m just a clueless dude that gets himself into trouble for no good reason.” Things don’t always go right for you…
Are you? I don’t think you are. Maybe the problem is that you mess up with bears too much.” Scarlet jokes, oddly appropriate. “Well, let’s not keep that dude waiting!” The redhead gently pushes you forward.
“Right…” You just can’t shake off that bad feeling.

You walk back to the robust restaurant, and the moment you step inside Scarlet moves very close to you and starts clutching the back of your jacket. What an obedient girl, taking ‘I got your back’ literally! Trent was waiting in the same spot you were sitting before. You two get closer…

“Ha! You both came back!” Trent smiles. “Props to you, bubble butt. I thought you were gone the moment you put a foot outside!”
“Thanks I guess. But I told you my name is Scarlet.” Scarlet reminds Trent while hiding behind you.
“I won’t forget this time.” Trent smirks again.
“Welp, here you go.” You discreetly give him the 5 grand. “You owe me big time for this.”
“I knew I count on ya.” Trent indiscreetly starts counting the money…

One of the waiters casually walks next to you three, and completely stoically tells you to follow him. Scarlet grabs you tightly, while Trent looks a little bit annoyed.

“That won’t be necessary. We’re leaving.” You respectfully reject the offer. You don’t want to overstay your welcome. “Come on Scarlet, let’s go.” But before you turn away, the waiter coughs to grab your attention.
“Please, the boss wants to see you all.” The man smiles. “He’s rather insistent.”
“Hey, the one you have beef is with me.” Trent looks pissed just like normal.
“It’s courtesy from the boss. He doesn’t have any ill intents.”

“Fine, I’ll handle this.” Trent stands up. “You’ll have to follow though.”
“O-Okay!” Scarlet hesitantly agrees for the both of you. You just shrug, seeing no need to say anything else.

The waiter takes you all to a room at the back of the restaurant, next to the kitchen. For a moment you spotted all the personnel working on the food – and not even once did any of them glanced over to you all. It’s like you don’t matter to them, being escorted to the back of their place.

The room is a barely clean office almost resembling the principal’s office back at school, just twice as small and equally as shitty to be in. An energetic-looking middle-aged man with sunglasses is sitting in a comfy chair, waving the moment he sees you three. Judging by Trent’s expression, he’s the guy orchestrating this whole thing. The waiter leaves you four alone with a bow, and Trent promptly steps up to the table.

“5 grand, just like you asked.” Trent leaves the money on the table in plain view. The guy doesn’t even bother to check it. “Can we fuck off now?”
“You still owe us somethin’.” The man stands up and looks Trent directly in the eyes. Your fellow classmate isn’t intimidated.
“My apologies for the inconvenience then.” Trent smiles, easygoing.
The man smirks and gently slaps Trent on the cheek. “Good boy.” He turns his attention to you all. “You’re his friends? I thought he didn’t have any.”

“Yeah.” You nod gently.
“Would you kindly join me in an activity for leisure?” The man pulls out a bat from underneath his desk! “You like baseball, right? I know you all will find this charming…”

What do you do?!

“Is this an offer we can’t refuse, or something?”
The big man smiles, stands up and begins stretching his arms. “You could always refuse, but there are consequences, friends!”

“Intimidatin’ ‘em to get to me? Couldn’t find a connection otherwise? Is that how they play in the big leagues?” Trent is not impressed, but he’s sure annoyed.
“I’ll show ya a big league play in a sec, bro.” The rotund man shifts into a batter position and pretends to swing at the air. “Just follow me, y’all. By the way… name’s Grande. Big Grande.” He walks past you three and leaves the room. You’re absolutely sure that’s not his actual name.

“Play along and don’t do anything unnecessary. Got it?” Trent orders under his breath. “Nothing bad will happen to you two. Not while I’m around.”
“That makes two of us, Trent.” You put the pressure on him, matching his glare with yours. Scarlet is basically your backpack at this point, having never left the vicinity of where you can’t see her…

And so, you three followed Big Grande through the back entrance of the restaurant. To your surprise, at the other side of the street, there is a Batting Center! How convenient! If your memory doesn’t fail you, your mother enjoyed frequenting this kind of place to de-stress. More often than not, she didn’t accomplish that goal. She always had a weird look on her face though, talking about it. A grimace, but not entirely a negative expression…

The inside looks old and rusty, but clearly maintains a decent clientele, judging by the many sounds of grunts and impacts you hear from the cages further into the building. You didn’t think baseball was any popular in your country, what with boxing and the few other sports that get any talking going – but maybe it has a diehard fanbase you didn’t know of? You’re sure this was one of those things they brought over from overseas that didn’t quite stick here in Prancijan, even all those years back when the government wasn’t quite as… laid-back, as it is now. Or as it was now, considering recent events.

Everyone here appears to know the mafia guy, waving and calling out and throwing greetings at him. All in all a friendly vibe. That feeling comes to a halt, however, once you realize you’re not walking towards the batting cages everyone else are using. No, you’re walking to a special room. Big Grande opens the door with a pair of keys in his back pocket. He invites you three in first, stepping aside to hold the door.
>>
>>3882836

Trent went first, then you and Scarlet. Big Grande followed and closed the door behind him, to reveal… even more batting cages! They look different, but you wouldn’t say they are any better than what’s outside. Sure the black wall paint is faded to a very dark gray, and the machines in here look a lot more well-maintained compared to the ones outside, but they look just like slightly better models than them. Not much of a difference, honestly. The bats in here aren’t wood, or aluminum, or whatever the ones people used in the regular cages looked like on the way in. Interesting, but not really something you care about. Philonune, on the other hand, has been staring wide-eyed at all the equipment in the place. Though he doesn’t say a word, you can tell through your link how taken he is by all this stuff.

“One of you three, step up. We’re dueling to see who gets a better score in there.” Big Grande points towards the cages with his bat. “That simple, kids.”
“Why are you doing this…?” Scarlet blurts in confusion.
“Fun.” Big Grande grins. “Now… who’s it gonna to be?”

You all look at each other. The only one with any kind of enthusiasm is Trent, so it should be pretty obvious, right?

“Hey Scarlet, might as well have some fun while we’re here.” You take command, picking up a random bat someone left laying around. It feels effortless; the bat itself barely has any weight to it. It’s jarring, but somehow cool. “I’ll do it.”
“G-Good luck…” Scarlet doesn’t know what to do with herself now that you’re leave her behind. You keep looking at her and she raises her fists to encourage you. Adorable. Extremely adorable.
“Go ahead. Knock yourself out.” Trent’s enthusiasm defuses a little bit, but it seems he’s not going to interfere.

“Fantastic!” Big Grande opens a door for you. “It’s automated, so pay attention. 10 shots is all you’ll get.”
“Sure.” You step through the cage door, walking up to the plate a distance away from the ball machine’s barrel.
“Make sure you’re not the janitor in the hall of champions, kid. That’s what I always say.” Big Grande closes the door after giving you a cheesy line. He goes around to another cage right next to yours, and everything seems ready for the challenge to begin. You see the machines gearing up for their imminent volley, making smooth whirring noises…

“Let’s see how this machinery works, partner.” Philonune is paying special attention to this activity for leisure. “Keep an eye on the balls.”
“Right…” You barely get the word out before the first of ten launches at you with astonishing speed!

The duel was as lightning quick as the speed of the launches! One after another, whacking sound clatter and clang throughout the place! The objective was knocking them out of the park, and you didn’t disappoint in the slightest. 9 out of 10 shots is pretty good, right?! Let’s find out…

Daaaaaaamn, that felt good!” Big Grande grins, strutting up to you and the others in the cage. “Mmm! Never fails to get the blood pumpin’! So how’d you do, kid?”
You shrug in response. You barely know how this crap works to know if you did well or not. You enjoyed the game for what it was though, so that’s something to take out of this!

“9 out of 10!” Scarlet cheerfully informs the thug.
SAY WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?!” Big Grande recoils so hard his sunglasses almost fall off. “BITCH, are you for real right now?!”
“HAHAHAHAHA!” Trent starts laughing his ass off. It intensifies to the point he has to cling to the metal cage mesh to hold himself up.
“Wait, did I win?” You’re somewhat confused by all these reactions.
“Yes, you did! You were too much too handle!” Scarlet hops enthusiastically.

“I got 6 outta 10 in the hardest course…” Big Grande rubs the back of his head. “Didn’t think anything above a 7 was even possible.”
“Wait, that was the hardest course?” It… didn’t feel hard at all! What the hell?!
>>
>>3882966

You didn’t even notice?! Hahaha! You sure are somethin’ else, chump!” Big Grande has a hefty laugh. “Or should I say… CHAMP?!

You both step out of the cage together. For some odd reason you can’t explain but sense deep inside yourself, you feel this occasion held more importance than what it actually had. Big Grande extends his big hand out to you, a big warm smile to match it…

“Nice game, kiddo. You’re a born natural.” He expects you to shake his hand…

…?

“Good game, I had fun too.” You shake his hand! The big man grins from ear to ear, and slaps you on the back. “So you really think I’m a natural?” Scarlet walks behind you and is again using you as a meatshield.
“Shiiiiit, kid! If you cheated somehow you need to tell me how you did it, ‘cause that ain’t luck.” The wide man retorts. “This made me think though… maybe it’s time I stopped doing this crap. My bros are gone, my arms hurt these days, and I never truly enjoyed what I do.” Big Grande says in a weary voice, all previous enthusiasm draining from it. He stops shaking your hand and puts his bat where the others are. You do the same. “We cool now. And you won’t have to worry ‘bout me any longer, Figg.”
“Good to know.” Trent doesn’t give one flying fuck about Grande.

“…You two seem to have a cooler head on your shoulders.” The large mafiosi turns to you two. “This kid might be more cerebral than your normal thug, but us natural born fighters tend to find trouble anyway. Help him stay out of it. Whoever’s gonna replace me ain’t gonna be so kind to civvies like you.”

“I can take care of myself.” Trent looks pissed, clenching a fist. “And I barely know you.”
“Boy, but do I know you. If you don’t think we haven’t been keepin’ tabs on you as a future prospect, well, I will take that ‘cerebral’ part of my statement back.” Big Grande shrugs. “Now I can return to my quest to find the owner of those long-lost shiny buttocks…”
“W-What?” Scarlet jumps a little in place, cowering behind you more now.

“Girl, if you don’t think an aging old fat bastard like me ain’t a pervert, then I would suggest you be more careful in the streets – lest you get caught out in the sheets.”
“I’m still confused.” Scarlet muttered. Looking around, she’s not the only one…
“Make that two.” You scratch the back of your head. This went from strangely heartwarming to just plain strange. A lot of situations you find yourself in tend to go that way. “But I don’t really want to know.”

“Eh, forget it kids! I’m just an old man ramblin’ about the distant past.” By this point, all four of you have made it back to the entrance of the Batting Center. The sounds of bats hitting balls and balls hitting metal mesh has since died down, and there’s a sense of relaxed calm that wasn’t there before. Big Grande opens the door for you three to leave, the receptionist idly watching your group go. “Like I said, we cool now. Hasta pronto.”
“G-Goodbye!” Scarlet moves around to your front and tugs at your arm! You two are the first ones to leave. Trent stares at Big Grande for a few moments before following your trail.

The three of you are outside the Batting Center. The sun is setting…

“That was more thrilling than it deserved to be.” Scarlet had fun despite things being weird after the dinner date. That’s good. You had fun too. “But Johnny, you’re incredible! I didn’t know you could swing like that!”
“I’m not sure what happened actually happened…” What a weird day! Everything is going right after going wrong first!

“You two, come with me.” Trent exclaims out of nowhere. “I’ll show ya somethin’ fun.
“Why?” You’re not sure how to feel about this…
“Do I really need to say why?”
“Can you at least tell us what it is?” Scarlet asks politely.
“No.” Trent sure knows how to party, doesn’t he? “Don’t wanna ruin the surprise.”

…It’s getting late, and you have classes tomorrow! Is this such a good idea?!

What now?

>“Can we leave it to some other time? I need to take Scarlet home.”

“Sure.” You still have some fun in you to spend today. “You’re up for it too, right Scarlet?”
“W-We are not going to a strip club or something in-indecent like that! R-Right?” Scarlet mutters. The idea didn’t come to your mind, but it makes sense now that you think about it. It’s getting late, and this would be about the time when those places start to open for the night. At least, you think so.

“No way. Why the hell would I invite a chick in there? The fuck? Not even counting we’re underage too.” Trent is annoyed, almost offended. This hasn’t been the first time today you’ve seen him get this way. “Don’t say stupid shit like that again, got it?”
“Okay! F-Forget it…” Scarlet shakes her head. “I’m going too then!” She feigns enthusiasm.
The fake enthusiasm is real enough for Trent. “Then let’s get moving!” Trent leads the charge as the two of you trail behind.

“…If you’re worried about where we’re going, why even go?” You whisper to Scarlet. If it’s only to pass the time with you, you prefer her not to go unnecessarily risking herself for it. “You could’ve said no and gone home, and I don’t think he would’ve minded.”
“I’m just trying to guess what’s on his mind…” Scarlet reveals, hesitating. “He’s an… interesting guy, but we heard about… you know… what he did to that woman.” She blushes to her ears without stopping. “So then I thought… maybe he’s, like, not great with normal social cues or something? And we were going to go off and do something super weird at night? I don’t know!” The blushing continues, with Scarlet looking down and away from you. Something about that description rings familiar to you, but you can’t think on it for long.

“I understand. He’s a unique guy.” Understatement of the week!
Scarlet waves her hands in front of her, between you two. “I-I mean, I know you wouldn’t go along if it was something bad, right?! Not bad, but… something that would make me uncomfortable, or both of us – or make you uncomfortable! Ugh, I’m just babbling about nothing at this point. Don’t mind me, Johnny.” Scarlet’s steps become uneven for a moment. Did she make herself dizzy from the hand-waving?
“I’ll get you out of there myself if it’s anything like that, yeah.” The date was between you and her, so she’s your responsibility for the day!

“I’m just trying to be open minded ‘cause this is super exciting!” The excitable redhead puts her excited hands together in front of her, suppressing her excitement. “A nighttime outing with friends, going to a mystery place for mystery things? Why wouldn’t I like this?!”

“People like haunted houses for a reason, Johnny!” She pouts at you. It’s really cute.
“Weird analogy, but I understand.” You guess she trusts you so much she feels safe despite the dangers that may or may not be involved. This occasion must mean a lot to her to be willing to overcome her fears for it…

“You two were never in any danger.” Trent eavesdropped on your entire conversation, because neither of you bothered to whisper or anything to make it seem private. “I’m making sure of that. Now, there’s nothin’ to worry about.”
“A-Aye!” Scarlet yelps out, jumping in fright! You just sigh and continue walking with the pair.

Eventually, after a few quiet minutes of walking through this shady part of the city, with only your footsteps and distant cars the only sounds, you arrive at your destination! It might be night already, but you can easily tell the building Trent is leading you apart from the others in the area. It’s a big office building the same as any of the other hundreds in Pokyo Lokyo… but ahead next to the main front entrance, there is a special side door with someone guarding it! With the light leaking out from the door behind them and the streetlamps a good distance away, you cannot make out any of their features from here.

“What’s that?” An anxious Scarlet whispers.
“A show.” Trent smirks like a predator in the gloomy night.

“What kind of show, brute?” Nariko wonders archly, standing next to you three. She’s holding what seems to be a shopping bag, the other hand in an indignant fist.
“Well, one that is…” Trent was going to answer, but then he realizes what’s going on. “Hold on. What’s this bitch doing here?”

“You have quite the nerve to insult me to my face like that. I’ve had enough of you and your lack of manners.” Nariko glares at Trent, fire in her eyes! “I’ll have your tongue torn off and bleeding in my hands soon enough, scum!”
“Is she a friend of yours…?” Scarlet puts a hand to her mouth and asks Trent sideways. The big man wordlessly turns to you – like it’s all your fault.

W-What do you do here…?

“Nariko, what are you doing here?” You need to break the tension before something goes wrong. “What’s going on?”
“I went shopping.” Nariko raises her shopping bag. “Needed some clothes for myself and bought something for Amelia.” She takes out a sweater with a bear on it. “What do you think? She said she isn’t going to buy childish things for herself any longer, now that she considers herself a mature woman. But she had no problem accepting gifts regardless of kind.” That sounds like Amelia alright…
“It’s really cute! I know Ame loves that kind of thing!” Scarlet chips in

“Pardon me, do I know you?” Nariko snickers in disdain. “Sorry, little girl. I think you must be out past your bedtime…”
“Scarlet, this is my friend Nariko. Nariko, this is Scarlet.” You present each other quickly. “Now where were we?” You turn to Trent.
“Yeah, let’s—”

“Hmph, I take it you two are classmates? Only place I can think of where ‘people’ like you could encounter a person like Johnny. You look so clingy and all, so deprived of basic companionship… You absolutely reek of thirst!” Nariko interrupts Trent only to put Scarlet down further. Did Nariko forget you found her on the streets as a stinky hobo not even a month ago? Did she forget how she behaved in the clinic towards you just a few days ago?!
“Yeah, and the only way you get to ‘encounter’ Johnny is to chime in uninvited.” Scarlet fires back! “I’m sorry Nariko, but nobody asked you for your opinion.” The redhead smiles warmly at Nariko. There is nothing welcoming in the warmth.

“Ha!” Trent laughs without a care in the world. “Oh man, this is hilarious!”
“W-What did you just say!?” Nariko takes a step back in sheer shock, eyes wide. “And don’t laugh, you brute!”
“Oh no…” You don’t like where this is going! Why does this keep happening to you?

You need to step up before this gets ugly…

>“Nariko, stop being mean and apologize to Scarlet. Don’t insult my friends like that, please.”
>”Nariko, I think you’re forgetting where I found you to begin with. Stop harassing Scarlet. Now.”

“Nariko, stop being mean and apologize to Scarlet. Don’t insult my friends like that, please.” You scold the snobby bovine!
“B-B-But she responded! She’s as bad as me!” Nariko is throwing a tantrum.
Nariko…” You give the arrogant ex-hobo a stern look.

Scarlet stares at Nariko, then at you – and shakes her head. The rueful redhead turns to the obtuse hobo, and with a true smile says:

“I’m sorry, Nariko.” Scarlet apologizes! “I was really nasty for some reason. I should’ve behaved better.”
“H-Huh…?” Nariko is completely confused by this sudden turn of events. “You were supposed to continue your reckless slander, then I would’ve defended myself! And after another row of petty insults, I would apologize to look better!”
“Well, uhm… I apologize for being rude.” Scarlet breaks Nariko’s wild expectations easily.
“…I guess I could bother to accept your humble apology.”
Nariko…” You give the arrogant ex-hobo another stern look.

“F-Fine! I’m sorry as well, Scarlet!” Nariko pouts. “Does this satisfy you?”
“You’re kinda quirky.” Scarlet comments flippantly.
“So we’re back to paltry cheap shots then?! T-Then I believe your posterior is… rather obscenely huge! Take that!” Nariko is making a fool out of herself, conveniently ignoring that the same insult applies both ways here.
“I w-wasn’t trying to be mean! I just find you… intriguing? Does that work for you?” Scarlet corrects herself while trying to hide her big bum. “And uhm…”

“No need to hide your pride, bubble butt!” Trent cackles with glee. “With assets like that, you have no reason not to show them off!”
“Keep those comments to yourself, pervert!” Scarlet glares daggers at Trent as she hides behind you. Trent just smiles.
“This foul man never knows when to keep his mouth shut.” Nariko agrees with Scarlet, shaking her head. “Always so disrespectful. Honestly, the nerve of some people…”
“Agreed.” Scarlet and Nariko have found a common enemy! This could be a very good thing or a very bad thing. You’re not sure which it is anymore.

“Nariko, do I have to remind you how this whole conversation started?” It’s time for you to put a stop to this! You have a mysterious building to check out right over there, and you’re wasting enough time as it is, arguing out here in the street for nothing.
“Details, dear Johnny. Details.” Nariko doesn’t take it into account. Of course.

“Hey drama queen, you leaving now, right? We have stuff to do.” Trent wants to kick your hobo out. “Stuff that doesn’t involve you.”
“Can she join us, guys? I don’t want any animosity between us.” Scarlet does a shocking suggestion.
>>
>>3884700

“H-Huh?! What’s up with you?! We’re enemies!” The drama queen proclaims. “K-Know your place…”
“Are we? I don’t think we are.” Scarlet doesn’t know when this whole thing escalated. It’s clear she doesn’t care either. “I really don’t want to judge you by your cover, you know? People do that too much nowadays.”
“W-What are you insinuating? My cover is anything but excellent!” The OG hobo twirls one of her strands of hair on her finger, suddenly bashful. “R-Regardless, I would love to spend some time with you all!”
“Too bad I don’t.” Aaaaaand then there’s Trent.
“Like what a brute says matters! Where are we going anyway?” Nariko already feels part of this despite being uninvited.
“Down there. Why?” Scarlet points to where the guard is standing outside the building. Trent glares at Scarlet, who hides on you back again, and which makes Nariko grumble in jealousy…

It feels like there’s always too many people with too many personality quirks around you, and you have to keep balancing them against each other or risk things falling apart. Sometimes it gets so hard to deal with… for example, right now.

“Sorry Trent, but could she go with us?” You ask, in an almost resigned tone. It’s getting late, and you have no idea how long you’ve been standing out here trying to wait this out. You just want to get on with things already.
“P-Please!” Your OG Hobo does her OG pleading. The contrast is outstanding, but she’s cute while doing it.
“Whatever.” Trent doesn’t look amused but relents. “But if you don’t behave, I’ll smack your ass.”

“That’s private property.” You blurt out without thinking, only realizing what you said after the fact. Scarlet and Nariko look puzzled. You sincerely hope they take it as a joke.
“…Then I’ll smack hers.” He points behind you at Scarlet.
“Sorry, can’t let you do that either.”

“You gotta share your bitches, you shit pimp.” Trent elbows you in the side, all smiles.
“H-Hey!” Great, now Scarlet is offended. “I’m not anyone’s property!”
“Me neither!” Nariko is as mad as Scarlet.
“Then what’s the problem?!” Trent barks back.

“…Let’s just go inside.” Utterly done with this entire pointless bickering, you push everyone towards the conspicuous secret entrance! Scarlet and Nariko protest a little, but you deafen yourself to their complaints. After delaying everything as long as they did, their complaints don’t matter to you. Once Trent has a short chat with the guard outside, you four are let inside the building! About time!

So you didn’t know it was a thing, but underground boxing looks to be huge! The place is full of people of all ages, which shouldn’t be a thing but is! You’re almost surprised at how huge this setup is on the inside. There are full wall-length banners of famous boxers on the walls, all of them former world champions! The one dead center is El Macho, a masked boxer who looks familiar, but you don’t remember the details at this point. Next to him is some bulky big guy named La Pared – then the rest of the lineup looks too unimpressive for you to comment or care about.

When you imagine ‘underground sports’, you usually visualize a nasty ambient, a lot of betting, and a rowdy crowd. Everything but the crowd here flies in the face of that image. Hell, it looks like a straight-up decent place, all things considered. Well-maintained too. They have seating arrangements set up for maximum capacity, multiple rooms for boxing equipment and training supplies, and even merch to sell to visitors! The place is not exactly packed, but there’s an unusual number of hyped-up people here for a Sunday night.

“What the fuck?” You’re in awe. It’s kind of awesome to see something like this. “This place isn’t half bad.”
“Boxing…?” Nariko isn’t too thrilled. Not high class enough for her tastes?
Omigod, this is sooooooo cooooooool!!!” Scarlet takes in place and the shining lights! It’s love at first sight!
“It is fascinating, yes… though I am still not sure if I adore it or despise it.” Philonune decides to speak up out of nowhere! “I can see why you would appreciate it, Johnny.”

“It’s an open secret. This place retains the real soul and lineage of the OG championship; none of that WBA shit here. If you give a single shit about the sport, then this is the place to be.” Trent briefly explains, but you don’t get anything.
“What, you like boxing?” You ask Trent. “I didn’t take you for a boxing type.”
“No.” Trent never ceases to be perplexing today. “I just like the atmosphere.”

“So we can walk in here for free?” Scarlet asks an important question.
“It’s my treat this time. Just had to pull some strings.” Trent shrugs. “No biggie.”
“This is rather… vile. But I suppose I’ll take a look.” Nariko is the first one to walk towards the standings. You all follow her, then Trent takes the lead.

You just watched a random championship match for the national heavyweight title! It was pretty cool; you didn’t catch the names of the contestants, but you did enjoy the raw energy of the place. Trent was right, this boxing is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced in your whole life. They did mention something that piqued your interest as well as Nariko’s, once you caught what exactly they were saying over the crowd’s noise. One of the announcers said the actual champion is close to beating Dreadnought Harris’ national record of number of defenses. That name brings to mind a certain someone… someone you know…

As the main event is done, you and the crowd leave the place with satisfaction and a little amped up. It’s fully night now, approaching midnight…

“Sheesh, look at how late it is!” Nariko is the first one to say something. “I believe we should return to our homes immediately! Tomorrow we have classes and we need to be on our 100%!”
“Don’t remind me…” Scarlet looks afflicted.
“Yeah, I’m crashin’ out.” Trent agrees.

“Well then, dear Johnny, let us move!” Nariko wants you to move away from the redhead. Right now.

“I’m the only company you’re going to get if you keep bitchin’ like that.” Trent laughs, a glint in his eyes. “Do I have to spell it out for ya?”

Nariko looks back to you and Scarlet. Before she turns back to face Trent properly, you make out a conflicted emotion flash over Nariko’s face, made heavy by the gloomy lighting of distant streetlamps.

“You’re carrying my bag then, brute. And if you drop it, I will choke you until you experience what they call the ‘blues’.” Nariko hands him her shopping bag. It’s more of a ‘thrust’ than a ‘handing it over’ though. “Dear Johnny, Scarlet, it was a pleasure. Have a safe trip.” Nariko doesn’t even look your way as she days this.

“Don’t try anything funny, Trent. And be safe, Nariko.” You wave them goodbye. Nariko does not deign to look at you, but Trent salutes briefly.
“Take care!” Scarlet says goodbye as well!

As you two start walking away towards the direction of Scarlet’s home, you heard their voices carrying through the empty street towards you. Trent is making fun of Nariko for crying out of nowhere. Nariko only tells the big man to shut up, in a voice that doesn’t hide how choked up it came out. Realizing what was going on much too late, you quickly suppress that pang of guilt you feel in your stomach. Nariko and Trent can easily protect themselves; one has an entity, and the other is a beast. Scarlet has no way to protect herself in a mostly empty city at night. Who knows what kind of people are still out there, taking advantage of everybody else leaving to do… certain things?

You made the right choice to go with Scarlet yourself… Didn’t you?

“Those two are kind of nice in their own way.” Scarlet tries to spark some conversation as you two keep walking.
“That’s one way to put it…”
“Yeah, it sounded way nicer in my head…”

After some time walking through streets in depressing quiet, you finally arrive at Scarlet’s home! It hasn’t changed at all since the last time you were here. The only notable event on the way there was one randomly patrolling N.U. army man asking you two where you were going. Once you explained to him your reasons and showed due respect, he went on his way without looking back – or pointedly asking more questions you may or may not have been able to answer. He was rather friendly, considering he doesn’t even belong in this country and that he was carrying real live weaponry. Wait, where we you? Oh right, parting ways with Scarlet! You’re outside the fence and the moonlight shines upon you! While Scarlet is rummaging for her keys, you watch her intently.

“Sorry for taking you back so late.” You apologize. It was rather irresponsible of you, looking back…
“No, no! It’s nothing! I already told my parents I was coming late.” Scarlet waves at you with one hand while digging through her stuff for the keys, a small smile on her face. “Besides, this is nothing compared to when I had a night out with Sammi and the girls!”

“Should I be worried about that?”
“Oh wow, now you’re the one policing me?” Scarlet jokes, managing to pull out her keys. “Seriously, I had fun. It was a wacky day, and I got to spend it with you! And that cool blonde guy you’re friends with!”

“Yeah…” You don’t address how she left out mentioning Nariko.
“Thanks, Johnny.” Scarlet smiles, a lot more relaxed than before. She opens the door next to her, but holds it in place without entering yet.
“It’s nothing…”
“I’m sorry, but…”

Suddenly Scarlet lets go of the door and steps really close to you! With both eyes closed, and her lips…! She’s trying to…! to…!

…?!

>Avert your gaze. You don’t want to do this.

It'll break her heart, but it has to be done.

If we don't want to have her as a girlfriend, just tell her. don't pussy-foot with the 'I'm not ready' nonsense

>>“Scarlet, I told you I can’t… I’m not ready.”
If for no other reason than I still feel guilty about Nariko. Make it clear there's no hard feelings though, we're just not sure if we're ready to commit to a relationship

You decided to avert your gaze…

“Scarlet, I told you I can’t… I’m not ready.” It’s the painful truth.
Scarlet stops moving, and with the saddest expression you’ve ever seen on her face, babbles a barely coherent response. “I-I thought…”
“I’m sorry.”

The redhead standing in front of you plainly wrestles with her emotions for a long moment, then takes a breath. “No… Since you rejected that girl for me, I thought… you know… Ugh, I was just overthinking things, that’s all…” Scarlet looks heartbroken. That’s the best word that describes it. “You told me you weren’t ready last time, but—”
“I understand.”
“Do you really? You really think so?” Scarlet snaps, the sarcasm coming from out of nowhere. The look she gives you is steely, utterly unlike how she was not seconds ago.

“I led you on towards this, didn’t I? That’s the problem, right? In the end, I’m just a dumbass toying with you.” It’s been your fault all along.
“I’m acting like this because I love you, Johnny! Not because I’m a dog being taunted at by a piece of meat she’ll never get! You’re not some fake prize to claim, some unreachable bait! You’re the person I love!” The tears start to flow, all the sorrow laid bare. “Y-Yeah, I said it… I said it out loud, and I’ll say it again if I have to! I don’t care if the whole neighborhood hears me!” Scarlet throws her hand aside in a sweeping gesture.

“It’s just… I’m not prepared…”
“Then let me help you be prepared! I’m a positive girl, let me rub some of it on you!” Scarlet grabs your hands, pulling them close to her chest. Their soft warmth is stained with tears. “You can reject me then, because there’s nothing here that tells me the answer is going to be any different.”

Your hands start trembling on their own, clasped in hers. “S-Scarlet, I…” What is she…?
Scarlet shakes her head, squeezing her crying eyes shut. “Johnny, don’t you understand what you’re doing? You think you’re doing anyone any favors doing this? I’m here for you. I want to help you. I want you to be happy for once! It hurts me more seeing you pretending to be happy and me not being able to do anything to help, than it would if you would just tell me to fuck off. At our date at the movies you were heartbroken, and now you’re even worse!” Scarlet’s eyes open wide, staring at you with a broken intensity.

“You don’t think I’m seeing it? That I’m not listening to you? You don’t think you have a future, you stopped doing your hobbies, and now you act like you have so much weight on your shoulders and can’t relax anymore – beating yourself down into the dirt all the time. You don’t even crack jokes like you used to anymore. All day you were pissed and annoyed with Terry first, then with Trent, then with that last girl instead of having any fun!” She takes a deep shuddering breath, throat raw in so many ways. The next words cry out in a desperate plea, ringing everywhere. “You can’t keep doing this anymore! You can’t keep letting yourself feel this way anymore! Wake up, Johnny!

For a few heartbeats of quiet silence, the anguished words of another girl echo in your ears…

“…” You have to say something. Anything. “…I’m not pretending shit. I was having fun today. I was just… worried about you sometimes. I wanted you to have as much fun as you could, because you needed it.”
“And you didn’t? Pretending or hiding it does the same to you. Stop denying it!” Her hands shake yours, as if each one could get words through to you. “Why can’t you let me help you? It’s not even about the two of us going out anymore!”
“Because it’s not that easy, Scarlet!” You pull your hands out of hers, the act jerky in a way you didn’t intend. The bloodshot eyes dart down at the emptied hands, her face cringing involuntarily at the sight. “I wish it was that easy.”
“How is it not?! Is it better to just keep going through the motions, day in and day out? Why can’t you just give me a chance?”
“Chance for what…? Why are we even talking about this?!”
“To be there for you the same way you were there for me. This isn’t fair to you, and you know that!” Scarlet pulls her hands back down to her sides, hanging limp. “So why… why are you still…?”

Any developing tears or strain in your eyes disappear as they narrow at the girl in front of you. “Scarlet, you’re obviously exaggerating. I turned the page. I know what I need to do, and I’ve never been better. Sorry for being vague, but this is none of your business…” Your teeth clench in a scowl.
Scarlet stares at you, open-mouthed and wide-eyed. Then her hands ball into fists. “…Fine. Be that way.” She whispers, almost spitting the words at you.

Turning away, Scarlet Argyle walks off into her home, the iron gate clanging shut with finality between you two…

This is all we have for this thread! Thanks for playing!

Did you really not know what she wants?

?

She clearly wants to be Johnny's girl and he keeps leading her on.
>>
>>3888545
>and he keeps leading her on.
What? No he isn't. He told since forever ago that he's not interested and that's not what her problem is
>>
>>3888566
He's said he wasn't ready.
Not that he's not interested.
Very different.
>>
>>3888938
I meant interested in a relationship. He himself has admitted that she's cute
