WELCOME TO HARDRIVE: A quest inspired by Gundam Buildfighters, Metabots, and a little bit of shadowrun and my past works.

I used to write some quests back in the day on a different name, I hope to write some more. Lets all do our best.

I will answer any lore questions if you want to ask before making a decision. You will get to do a char creator for your avatar and your "Real self" There is also of course your Golimec.

Back my apologies.

Yes, this is doable. It doesn't matter how heavy the competition is frankly. You aren't going to be dumb and take it slow either.

But with everyone being so desperate to take first place that going to leave the economic board much less attended, letting you lead the arms race before the rest of the players can get in.

Hell maybe you can even build a Colony before the real game launch. Then youd get the real bucks in.

With a goal settled in you start up the game.

You place the sleep mask on your head, get comfy in your bed, and let sweet sweet cyber take you.

The world goes green rather quickly before fading into a dull black... Right until two blue bunny ears pop in front of you.

"Hello! It's ME! Eiataro! How are you?"

You rub your eyes as a small rabbit in a red vest looks up at you, eyes beaming with happiness. "Good golly did you know your our 777th player? That sure is lucky isn't it! Aren't you special... um..." The EIA mascot furls his nose in confusion... "Who are you?"

We'll leave usernames for later.

You decide that, despite who you may be in real life, it don't matter in the digital verse.

So, throwing life to data semblance to the wind, you just make whatever shit looks cool. Not like aliens were discovered anyway.

Eiataro brightens up as he hops to the Story generator. "Well first lets pick your schooling!"

Several computer terminals blink up. "Schooling is like a Class, while you can learn everything if you want in Harddrive, Schooling starts you off with UI aids and basic unlocks to make certain tasks easier. They also help set up your opening missiom."

Huh that makes sense... You flip through the computers each one listing features and with their own instructional video.

>Suits: Suits start with a contact in Corp or Country and help work the marketplace itself. Wheel and deal, hire mercenaries and farmers. Suits are the NPC leader players.

>Wageserf: Wageserfs are the opposite rung on the ladder, broke miners and farmers who have only recently rebelled from a Worldnode, unknowing how this will jumpstart the Franchise wars to come. You may start with the least gibs but you get basic Scraptech, which is much rougher then Factorytech but doesnt need a workshop.

>Merc: Born for battle, you are a expert in combat

>Engineer: Similar to the middle men of suits, you help build machines, you are dependent on workshops but your tech can be sleaker and cheaper, if a bit harder to specifically mod.

>Pilot: As a pilot your a expert on ship navigation, and can either play space trucker or engage in space dogfights

>Write in: If you think of something more clever let me know, im just trying to make sci fi class systems and i guess its later then i thought?

When your doing real life char gen you will get a "Real you" talent that affects your in game skill.

Wizardry programming is part of engineering, but if you ACTUALLY know programming you can break the game.

Would you guys like to make Pilot your real life skill and be a Engineer?

Or would you guys like to choose between Hacker and Engineer for real life skills and pick Pilot as your schooling.

Remember you can just, practice and naturally learn piloting later.

KITS are bonus gear, you get gear from schooling as well, but Kits are even greater loadouts, though you may have to practice with the gear. You may also need to instead be clever on how you use the items. You always have a golemic, but some of these items upgrade them more then others.

You set up on the Engineer terminal, you want to take this game slow and the best way to get the best Golemic tech is to build them yourselves.

In a war OF economies, there is few things more important then ensuring product. Sure you could hire npc engineers as a suit but... time for that later.

You set yourself up with a Datanomicon as well, this slab will help you get the specs on gear and resources. Granted its more built towards explorer runs then a full economy build... but that data will be useful for your own experiments. Not often you can find a portable Cosmaputer anyway.

You finish up, typing in the username Vizier as your icon forms over you like a second skin. lanty flesh wrapped in a dull labcoat.

Eiataro claps his paws. "Wowie Zowie, your all ready to go! Good luck out there!"

With that, there is a flash of light and you find yourself sitting in front of a work bench.

Surronding you are other Engineers, each of you tinkering on your own lab piece.

You find your hands automatically moving to fix up the Agraisa Model Gatling gun in front of you, instinctly knowing how to best hook up the machine to the Arcanic Ammobox based on your inputted schooling.

Suddenly you hear a explosion as the alarms blare.

"ATTENTION! THERE HAS BEEN A RIOT! ALL PRIORITY GREEN AND ABOVE MEMBERS PLEASE REPORT TO EVACUATION. PRIORITY PURPLE PLEASE REPORT TO THE ISOLATION BUNKER"

You check your badge, Priority Purple, looks like the corp plans to leave you here while the big wigs get out.

You

>Take your gun and fight the rebels off, you arent going to die here
>Try to get on that evax ship, you arent going to die here
>Try to get into that safety bunker, you aren't going to die here
>Worm your way into the rebel's side, you aren't going to die here. Also fuck Agraisa anyway

Given the way this game touts itself, and the safety waver they make you sign disavowing the publisher from any emotional stress future content can make, this isn't just a historical game. Your grandma mentioned that it was designed to evolve with player choices, you can make this game go a totally different timeline if you wanted.

You head forward, ignoring the bunker logo and head to the escape pods.

Guarding the door are two Agrias company Golemics, your data slate beeps and reports they are Lynecus models hardware, the basic barebone scout units. Normally they had command of weaker drones to better help with navigation and data gathering. It seems with the evac being so chaotic the bottom of the barrel is guarding the exit with the heavy gear actually in the front lines.

You can probbably take them, even though they are Golimecs you DO have a minigun... but that can be messy.

Sorry gamers got distracted.

You quickly pry your id card and, with a few quick adjustments, fix its signal from Purple up to Yellow, you could have done orange but that seemed a tad much. Priority Red and higher were even trickier.

You confidently walk forward, the two Lynecus models stopping you. "Greeting Master."

You glare at the two of them with all the poise you can muster. "Is there a problem units?"

One of the lynecus walk forward. "No sir, we simply request to requisition your minigun temporarily. We need to hold this point sir and our firepowers lacking."

The second one bobs excitedly, the purple light of their eye twinkling. "Wow a real Deimos gun, I never got to see one even used. You must be really good to have one."

>Course I am, i built it.

You snort totting the minigun behind your back. "Course I'm good, I made the gun."

You hear a whirr, which you assume is golimec for an excited sqeee. "Oh WOOOOW you can MAKE those guns? You must be a really good mechanic Proffessor... the robot scans you for a bit. "Vizier."

"C-can you do me a favor? My joints have been a little rusty, we could really use a tune up."

You think about it, given the situation its not like theres any downsides to having better guards.

"Alright sure."

>Give them a all purpose upgrade
>Change them to a more bulky model variant, one better suited to guarding

>Optimize their weapon output

>Customise one, your going to need a Golimec eventually, maybe you can snag one of these as your first.

Im going to bed for now, let me leave you with a little lore dump.

From what you know of history Agrias was one of the original Seven Saintly Companies, based off the Ultimate Roman Empire, one of the 13 Great nations.

(Fun fact, the 13 nations aren't just collections of planets, most planets are divided amongst two or more of these 13 nations of their vassal states that are in the 13s spheres of influence)

Agrias had a strong greek theme, with all their mech models being named after Argonauts.

The Agrias mostly outsourced land development. They would engage in a form of speculative training by colonizing a area, set up sharecroppers and Wageserfs to build and strip the area until suitable cities are built. They then auction these planets to various nations and move on to the next planet.

They were a lot like the Freiza force in that sense, and often violently pacified "lost" nations when a planet got so unruly that a nation choose to just "Forget" they owned it and need it cleared out from "pirates."

These unscrupulus tactics eventually started a rebellion that spilled into the Franchise war from a collection of opportunism and idealism.

Agrias was at some point dissolved during the franchise war, with its spot in the Corporate Clergy taken up by Grove United.

You take your screw kit and upturn the two, with the goal of updating the Lycencus to a more armor heavy build.

Granted this is more a scrap tech thing but your sure you could pull it off... or you did until you heard a rattle behind you while mid screw.

The red eye of Agrias's thesus model bears down the hallway, the large construction mechs frame covered in dents, its digger claws bearing more teeth then normal.

Evidentally someone, likely a rebel given the way its mining laser is being aimed, coopted this Golimec for combat purposes, specifically to turn you into ground pound.

And your halfway done on your tune up.

Well shit.

"Wha-what do we do Master!" One of the Lynecs says turing its eye back towards you, camera lens widening in shock.

>WELL YOU TRIED Bail

You throw your minigun to the first lycencus as you get to work, the golimec dutifully nodding as it stands its ground, unloading a spray of bullets at the Thesus.

The megaminer groans as bullets ping off it, covering its helm with its shield as the arcanic anarchist slowly inches closer.

Frankly as powerful as the Deimos's firepower, the Theseus model is built to survive the ravages of nature, and it slowly makes ground, even as armor platting is peeled off slowly under the salvo of shots.

But, before it fully bears down on your turrent Lynecus you finish, stepping back as your newest model charges the Thesus and body checks it from the side.

Your Aeitean Model Lynecus cracks its knuckles as it looms over the Theseus.

You hear a commotion down the hallway, it seems more company is coming, either friend of foe.

>Let your Aitean hold off the Theseus as you work on the Minigun lynecus

Ultimately there is little a mining machine can do against two solider golimecs. Especially ones that have you in their corner.

With a mighty left hook the Aetilan sends the Thesues reeling, the behemoth stumbling back as the Deimos unloads a tenth of its clip.

You hear a massive slump as the Thesues slumps over the hallway, creating a natural barricade as you hear the battle outside quiet.

A large silver golimec gleams ahead, a cartel if old men in suits being corralled behind it.

You recognize the model as one of the Agrias top of the line models, a Idmon.

The knight mech walks over, as your Lynecus step aside, allowing the ACTUAL executives to usurp past.

The Idmin eyes your prey. "You've been busy."

>write in
>>
>>3876143
I am going to bed but i was interuppted last time, hence having to put "Write in" instead of real options. I am going to add them and a second trivia dump.

>"Yeah, Holding the line"
>"Greetings sirs." Nod politely, seem like you supposed to be here in case any of these ungrateful execs catch wind of the ruse.
>"A Idmin? Quite the rare site. Where is your operator?"

As for lore dump lets talk more about Golimecs.

Golimecs are, if not obvious, robots, specifically robots that have achieved a degree of will and personallity through the arcanic circuts powering them. (Magical power in this setting is a lot like a extradimensional nuclear power, its very strong but it can work oddly and only the saintly companies can afford the patent to the Seven different arcanic generators needed to make magitech). What may be less obvious is what they can do.

So far the robots you have met have ranged from 8 feet tall, (The lynecus) to 32 feet (Theseus) (You can see why the Theseus was considered a big deal). In reality Golimecs can COMMONLY range from 4 feet to 58 feet tall, and thats not counting flagships such as the ArcColonies as Golimecs, though in reality they TECHICALLY are.

A armor type Golimec is a golimec designed so that they can be guided from the inside, turning it from a game of robot pokemon to gundam, other models are typically paired with a Partner, someone who operates, handles and guides the marvel. How personal this bond is depends on the actual value ascribed to the Golimec.

Ususally for the Strong Golimecs you get a personal 1 on 1 bond with someone, the weaker ones are treated like pokemon or a harem or WORST, like a employee.

It says something about the importance of these operators that the Theseus didnt REBEL it was reprogrammed, as despite its personality, for unknown reasons Golemics are not interested in making their own decisions.

Most Golemics are divided into Make, Age, Grade and Creed. Make is easy, its the company that made the golimec. Note that due to the generator trademark, almost all Companies are one of the Seven Saints, or former saints. Youve only seen Agrias Makes but that is going to change. Age is the scale of the Golemic, mostly their size. A child is a personal metabot, a adult the size of a house, a father the size of a warframe, and grandfathers are gundam tier superrobots. Creed is role.

Grade is how powerful that mech is, mostly used to seperate budget and high end lines for customers. For instance a High Grade is standard issue, master grade are high end models, and perfect grade are show pieces, golemics so good they exist as proof of concepts and models customized towards the most elite of operators.

There is a Ultimate Grade but those are illegal under the conventions of the Occult Accord.
For instance Lynecus is a High Grade Adult Scout, while the Idmin is a Adult Perfect grade command.

You nod, saluting the group. "Greetings sir. Keeping the homefront safe and all that."

The execs scurry past you as the Idmon eyes you, a skeptical look in the knights red eye. "Perhaps, though I do not recall anyone from the engineering department being granted Yellow clear-"

"Perseus, please." A silken voice chastises, a man walking over towards you in a tweed jacket and a bright smile. "With the chaos of the situation certain positions have been opening rapidly. I say this good samaratain has earned his promotion."

Perseus glares at you before standing straight. "As you say master."

You feel a arm wrap around your shoulder as your savior guides you away from the pods. "Benedictus, Foremaster of the Dakota sector, say mr.... Vizier was it?"

You never told him your name.

"Say you look like a go getter, a big picture guy. How would you like to do a favor for your company."

"What..." You say, looking warily at Benedictus, a Foremaster is the head of the factorys, to be a sector foremaster is to dictate the production lines of billions. Him being on planet is a hell of a target for rebels, and anything he is invested in is sure to be important... and important to the rebels too.

"You see here, back in the shipping there is a small dinged up Menelaus cruiser there should be a black suitcase with our logo on it. There was something in there I needed picked up but the rebel strike killed my ferryman and had them take the docs over. You scratch my back on this, I'll owe you one. Heck I'll owe you one now just for saying you'll do your best. How you say?"

You think about it, whatever is in that suitcase is valuable, almost as valuable as the personal debt of one of the ten most important men in the solar sector... But its going to be tricky.

Then again, it is a videogame and this is the first level....

Alright lets say your in charge due to lack of players.

However dont forget one of the lynecus's is half built. Whats your plan on finishing him and are you going to name the 2?

>The Aetian already uses pieces of the first lynecus, combine the two.

>Turn the other lynecus into a solid range light weigh specializing in your Deimos

>Use the drones that your calling in to bulk up the Lynecus.

>Fix the lynecus to full strength by only using its own drones

If you dont use the drones you will get 4 Harpy drones in addition to the Lynecus A harpy drone is a small ball eqipped with two claws, a buzzsaw, and a laser.

You gather your tools and get to work.

What your realize is the easiest thing to do is to, without sacrificing the Harpy drones, is to use the Thesues to replace the Lynecus parts used in the Aetian.

Once the Aetian is tuned up with the better suited Theseus pieces you can use the Lynecus spares to tune the half finished model into a sleeker, speedier form.

You get to work, with Benedictus cheerfully watching and making suggestions as you extend more of the drone power cables to tune up your Lynecus, making it sleeker and attaching the deimos powerbox to its own core.

You step back as you walk down the hallway heading to the hanger, your 4 harpy drones coming with you.

Crawling the hanger you see several jury rigged harpy drones floating over the ships, the dirt smeared armor of rebels trying to hack and pry into the various ships still in port, including a sleek black one that Benedictus gave you the key to...

More interesting is the scene nearby, with several soliders talking to a Golimec, whats odd is WHAT the golimec's make is. Its not Agrasian, its not even Parum despite the companies trading frequently with each other.

A large blue mech is leaning down, arguing with a one eyed woman, the golem's sharp triangular features and bright aerial modifications not in line with the Agrias MO.

This is a Skydive, a father Mastergrade, and a product of Choice Alternatives one of your competitors.

>Sneak over with a harpy and listen in, seems like your a victim of corporate espionage.

>Your new Sagitaurus model should be able to snipe the Skydive, itll be a hectic fight but thatll give you all the gear you need. Plus better to SHOOT then get caught without having shot.

>Saunter in and try to bargain, if this is a intercorp issue then coin is king.

You decide that, at this point, clearly the situations a bit more dangerous then you expected, especially if multiple corps are involved.

You direct Aitean to send one of his drones forward, the small blue ball slowly inching closer to the discussion as his radio picks up the audio. The least you can do before selling out is hearing the price.

"Again, tell your Buddhist bitches that the deal was clear, we get the manufactory, the *Whole* manufactory. How do you expect us to feed our families with a angry megacorp at our back and you walking off with Model H? You want a sacrifical pawn do it yourself."

The robot sighs, Choice's face mapping tech allowing the aerial bot to assume a startling impersonation of grief. "Alexa, we are not trying to sell you out, we promise you that Choice is more then happy to support your bid for independence, as we already have by supplying the hack arrays. However it is vital to our continued friendship that the Model H is put into the hands of a more experienced workerbase that would be able to quickly utilize it for your own defense. You do not have the man power to stop Agrias from trying to retake this place if they choose to."

"And if you have the Model H we dont have a way to stop you either." The one eyed woman points out, lighting a cigar likely stolen from a ceo office. "Liberty has to go to business for OURSELVES, we have no interest of trading Benedictus for Buddha Bael. And dont even ask about the magic generator."

The Skydive scowls.

It seems the Skydive is trying to get its hand on Agrias IPs from this rebellion. Shame the rebels want to keep them all for themselves.

Though if they think that they need a engineer to better utilize this mysterious Model H... hmmm.

You direct Sagitaurus to send a Harpy to the ship, hopefully you can just nab the case while everyones distracted, run off and make a clean getaway.

The only problem with that idea is the sheer number of harpies in the area, also engaging in looting the area.

You slowly move the harpy forward, trying to act casual as you slip into limo.

The Harley quickly finds the false ceiling where the case was hidden and nabbed it.

Everything was flawless, right until the harpy headed outside, another Harpy staring its bright blue lenses at yours.

It beeps waving its claw.

Fuck.

>play along, have add the case to the stash and replan

You turn around, ready to book it your Harpy fleeing as fast as its widdle jets can.

Unfortunately you hear a shot and your harpy explodes, the briefcase tumbling next to you as Alexa and her troops march on, many times your number pointing guns down at you.

"Well well... a corporate spy? Did no one tell you that it's rude to look through a girls things?" Alexa taunts, a long drag off her cigar, gauss pistol pointed dead at you.

Welll... fuck

>Come quietly, wait for rescue

>Go fighting, its a video game wahts going to happen you respawn? Who cares

>Heeeeey... new boss, just wanted to check up on some vital intel, didn't want to show up with a trap or anything... hehe... (stab Benedictus in the back, fuck him for putting you up on this mission.

OH shit i missed this because i was playing digimon...

Ummm suprise!

You look around as you cough pick up the briefcase and, hold it out. "Boss, I was simply trying to make sure that there was anything of value in here before I opened it with my key. Didn't want to embarass myself."

The Skydive points its bazooka towards you. "That seems very unlikely, you are a spy for-"

"Now now Skydive." Alexa says, a smile on her face as she pushes the bazooka away. "The rebellion needs engineers isn't that right Dr Vizier?"

You never told her your name... or Benedictus...

"So I think, you are going to come with us to our executive quaters, and you are going to earn the trust we have placed in you, and the three of us are going to have, a very good time together." Alexa says plucking the briefcase from your hand and guiding you away, your two golimecs being placed in arcanic null cuffs.

You hear a small beep "Quest completed" appearing in the corner of your eye.

Welp, looks like your a rebel now.

You are tossed into... hey its actually IS a exectuve quaters.

You walk around what seems to be the chief of research's old officpartment, which is now yours.

Most of the techs password locked but you still have the work bench, and the large man guarding you seems pleasant enough. More pleasant then his shotgun at least.

"We are going to need weapons to fight Agrias. If they stop us, we are all dead, and that WE includes you." Alexa said as she hands you the briefcase. "Find out what was so important in here its worth getting you caught for, and we will see how long a leash you can run with."

You click Benedictus's key onto the case and it pops open.

Theres a few things here, a chroneclasped lunch, seems benedictu's packed a cosmikraken sushirrito and put it in time stasis, rather extravegent.

Another item is a large red cube, which if you recall may be a raw Adult Core, Master grade even... that is VERY useful, Mastergrade gear is usually reserved for ace robot masters, heads of battle forces... A Master Adult could have likely fought his way through that hanger, after all the Skydive was a master itself so you could have certainly went toe to toe.

Granted Perfect grade is greater still but you'd be lucky if you ever seen one once in your life...

Wait you did, it threatened to kill you... putting that out of mind for now.

You are eagerly pulling the core out when you hear a click, it seems the case had a false bottom.

You open the case revealling... what the hell are you supposed to do with these?

I'd be down for another run. Shame I missed it but it was a fun read.

I think I liked Benedict a bit more, could've also set us up to be a major player as a foremaster of some sort.
Though, now, we have the potential to be the chief engineer for a whole new upstart planet Corp. I guess getting a planet as our base of operations isn't too bad of a gig for the beta.
