We play as Percival Williams, a socially awkward Pokémaniac with a knack for communicating with Pokémon.
He’s currently on his journey across the Aztlan region while aiming to become a Professional Trainer. He has become tangled up in various sketchy business and situations regarding shady corporations, armed revolutionaries, psychics, giant Pokémon rulers, and dumb teenager stuff.

Your team so far consists of:
Houndour
Mimikyu(Currently incapacitated) Resting at home.
Loudred Vulpix (Alolan)
“Prince” (Elekid)

Traveling partners:
-Kadabra: A teleporting friend.
-Eli: A punkish girl who aims to be the next regional Pokémon champion
-Gareth: 20 something college dropout who’s starting his Journey a bit too late

Status:
-Helping out a murderous psychic/little sister figure that visits our brain from time to time.
-23 days (Approximately) before the fall of Adage Village.

You are currently making your way through the Water Gym to get your third badge before departing from Lacrimosa Bay, you’d attained your first victory but still have two other fights left before you challenge the Gym Leader.

You tell Loudred to not worry about the judging looks the workers at the gym are giving her for wrecking a wall during the last battle, nobody got seriously hurt so everything’s fine. Instead, you congratulate her for her victory by giving her a thumbs up and a confident smile. Her feelings of guilt clear up and she responds by doing the same.

If you say it’s okay, she knows everything is okay, she trusts you that much.

>You’ve grown closer to Loudred!
>Percival doesn’t care much about property damage.

[Percy]: That last kick was pretty cool, I’d say dope even. Poké-dope.

[Vulpix]: Pfft, you are the lamest, Trainer.

[Percy]: Shut up, I’m cooler than an Ice type.

[Percy]: Right guys?

There’s an awkward silence as your team members struggle to answer.

[Loudred]: I think you are courageous, knowledgeable and reliable! You don’t need to be cool Percy!

[Prince]: You are a pretty good role model Pa.

[Kadabra]: You have your strengths, Percival. Coolness is not one of them.
(Kadabra says before teleporting away to oversee Gareth struggling at the other part of the gym.)

[Percy]: None of you think I’m cool?

[Vulpix]: Who cares? Let’s hurry up!

The walls are curiously damp in this section of the maze, so you figure out that there must be something akin to a pool indoors. After a while, you make your way to the center of the room you finally arrive at the center of the room. There’s a small platform to battle surrounded by a considerable large pool filled with water, there also seem to be more cameras here.

The Gym worker is ready to rumble, you send Prince forth and your opponent responds in releasing a Seaking onto the small battlefield.

There’s something odd about the Seaking’s Horn but you aren’t sure what is it. Its longer than a normal male’s one and its shape is abnormal as well. You think you’ve seen others like them before, but you can’t quite recall when.

You see Prince trying his hardest to stay calm, he even tries to introduce himself to his opponent but he’s a nervous mess.

[Prince]:Good afternoon miss. Or Sir? It’s hard to tell the gender of a lot of mons y-you know? I hope I’m not being rude.

[Prince]: Ehm, prepare to be in a world of pain!

[Prince]: Well, just the regular amount of pain for a normal battle. I d-don’t want to overdo it! I’m not saying you are weak or anything, you look super strong. I’m quite afraid of you! Terrified even!

[Prince]: But I do have the typing advantage! Electric beats Water!

[Prince]: I'm NOT SAYING THAT ELECTRIC TYPES ARE BETTER THAN WATER TYPES, EVERYONE HAS IT’S STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES. IT’S NORMAL! IT’S BIOLOGY! SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE WATER TYPES. Well, I’ve got no Water-Type friends! But not because I dislike water types, I just don’t have many Pokémon friends. There’s Jaws the Croconaw but he mostly just intimidates me...

[Prince]: …Can we be friends?

[Seaking]: Shut up. The battle is starting.

[Prince]: Sorry.

>>3864129
>It's got Lightning Rod as an ability guys.
A Lightning Rod channels lightning into a safe grounding system by providing a preferential striking point to exploit the whole "path of least resistance" thing. If we can get in close enough to shock Seaking through direct contact with Prince's horns, we may be able to circumvent it entirely for a quick finish? So with that in mind:

>>3864121
>EVADE!
>Swift
"You got this Prince! Close in on Seaking and use Swift to cover your approach - I've got a plan!"
>>
>>3864136
Sure.

You’ve got 60 starting points thanks to your mons being well behaved and their general good condition. This score can change according to your performance during battle.

You need to score at least 85 points to appear on TV, get your name out there and maybe get some minor sponsorship.

And 95 points to get the attention of the Gym Leader, giving you the chance to boost your popularity and presence as a Trainer and improve the chances to get some real good sponsorships, make connections and improve your chances to get invited to the league.

Even if you fail to reach those scores, you can challenge the Gym Leader for the Badge as long as you beat the Gym Trainers, you’ll just won’t get any extra attention to yourself.

Shit. You just realized what’s up with the horn. The Seaking must have “Lighting rod” as his ability. Long-range Electric-type moves won’t do a thing, but if Prince gets close enough, he might be able to get a direct hit at Seaking’s body.

[Percy]:You got this Prince! Close in on Seaking and use Swift to cover your approach - I've got a plan!

Prince starts running towards the Seaking, shooting *Swift* to throw off his opponent. Noticing this Seaking’s trainer warns him to keep his distance and shoot Prince with a *Scald*. Seaking’s mouth starts frothing with boiling water.

Elekid moves are little stubby legs as fast as he can. From his mouth, small star-shaped projectiles made out of bright energy start to shoot towards his opponent, he doesn’t have to aim, the *Swift* automatically zeroes in on Seaking.

The blasts are only meant to distract the Water-type. The *Swift* hitting his body is just an inconvenience to Seaking, he’s just waiting for Elekid to get close enough to hit him with a full power *Scald*
Prince manages to approach but he finds himself directly into Seaking’s blast range. Just before the Water-type can drench your adopted son in scalding water Prince manages to channel the power of the “King’s Rock”. Prince’s stomps grow louder as his presence becomes more prevalent, intimidating almost, he lets out one last barrage of *Swift* larger than before, it takes Seaking by surprise.

>Seaking is at 90% of its health.
>The Seaking has flinched!

Elekid closes the distance between the Seaking and himself, as he comes face to face with him you instruct your team member to…

>Break Seaking’s horn! Be ruthless! You’ll do whatever it takes to assure victory!

Anyway, this. Thunder Punch goes off his Attack stat which is at +Strong (spectacularly above average... for an Elekid), which combined with our speed and type advantage means it'll probably hurt the most. And it has a 10% chance to paralyze, meaning that if it goes well, it has the potential to give us the biggest bang for our buck. Pray for that CRIT! boys!

Running at full speed, Prince channels the electricity running through his horns towards his fist. You can see his small arm’s muscles spasm wildly as the electrical current runs through them. Your team member steels himself to deliver the blow while screaming his lungs out.

Prince is at an arm’s length away from Seaking. He throws the punch, putting all his weight behind it.

The *Thunder Punch* connects. It’s a meaty strike to Seaking’s face. It sounds almost like thunder. The electrical current passes from Prince’s insulated fist to Seaking’s, its horn can’t absorb *Electric Type* attack. His entire body is shocked instantly causing some severe damage.

>It’s super effective!
>Seaking’s is at 25% of its health. He’s almost done for!

The punch is strong enough to send Seaking outside the platform. Seaking’s trainer can only scream *Surf* as his mon falls into the water.

While Prince’s fist is still crackling with sparks of electricity a giant wave rises from the water surrounding the platform, it crashes violently against the solid floor, hitting your adopted son and washing him away. As the wave dies down, Prince is nowhere to be seen. He is underwater.

>Prince is down half his health!

A monitor on one of the walls lights up, it shows Prince underwater, confused, terrified and gasping for air, his movements are sluggish as he is not accustomed to being underwater but somehow he still has his *King’s Rock*. Meanwhile, Seaking is preparing to strike your mon with a *Mega Horn* to end the battle!

You should tell Prince to…
>ATTACK.
>EVADE. (Harder Underwater)
>DEFEND.
And…

>Meet his attack with a *Quick Attack*
>Use *Swift* to try and keep him at bay.
>Use *Quick Attack* as an evasive maneuver and try to reach the platform again.
>Wait until Seaking approaches and hit him with a *Shock Wave* directly into its body.
>Thunder Punch him once again!
>Pretend to use Thunder Punch and strike him with *Swift* when he starts to get close, maximize the damage! (Using two moves will take a strain on Prince.)
>Tell Prince to produce as much *Toxic* as possible to taint the water, obscure Seaking’s vision and evade the attack.
>All or nothing! Use a full power *Shock Wave*! Try to overwhelm Seaking’s Lightning Rod once he gets close enough. (This will leave Elekid exhausted for the remainder of the battle)

>CRIT!
>3rd turn!

Prince starts to frantically swim towards the surface, using *Quick Attack* to move his limbs faster than before, his body seems to grow accustomed to being underwater rather quickly managing to briefly out-speed his opponent.

Once he is about to reach the surface Prince realizes he is in control of the situation his nervousness dies down. Feeling more focused, Prince acts quickly once he realizes that Seaking is just about to reach him.

He effortless goes around Seaking’s rush in a single surprisingly graceful motion, considering his egg-shaped body. Spinning around him and striking with an uppercut strong enough to send the roughly 90 pounds fish out of the water. Effectively using his evasive maneuver as an offensive one as well.

Seaking can only flail uselessly as Prince follows him by jumping out of the water ready to finish this.

>SeaKing’s at 15% of its health!

With a final *Swift* Prince knocks out Seaking before he gets a chance to react, winning the bout.

Seaking’s unconscious body falls to the water where it floats unconscious while Loudred jumps onto the platform to enthusiastically congratulate Prince for his Victory.

>BATTLE END!
>PRINCE’S VICTORY!
>PRINCE GAINED TONS OF BATTLE EXPERIENCE

Prince has made a ton of progress since his first battle. He should be close to evolving anytime soon. You give him a fatherly pat on the back to congratulate him. The small electric type seems just a bit more confident.

A new path opens up, the Gym employee tells you that your last battle before challenging the Gym Leader lays just ahead.
Feeling motivated you continue your progress inside the Gym.

You notice that you got a couple of new messages on your phone…
There’s one from your sister back home, it’s a picture of her, Mr.Snob and Mimikyu. “He’s kinda creepy but really sweet. Reminds me of you a bit.” She wrote.

Your mon seems much better than before, he should be at top shape by tomorrow, good for him!
>Mimikyu will be ready to return tomorrow morning.

There’s also some from Eli.

[Eli]: [Online]: Sup dude, I managed to get a ride to our next destination. Fought some dumbasses for their bus-tickets.

[Eli]: [Online]: So we are leaving tomorrow to avoid the blizzard. U cool with that?

You reach the battle arena, the last fight before the Gym Leader. This shouldn’t cause you too much trouble. The Gym employee seems incredibly hyped up for some reason, posing dramatically as he speaks.

[Gym Employee]: You had a good run! But it ends here! Only the best of the best can hope for a stellar match against our Gym Leader.

[Gym Employee]: Now, have at you!

Just before the battle starts, you catch two figures walking towards the battle arena, apparently minding their own business. It’s the Water Gym Leader Katia Dolorosa and Pro Trainer Maximillian Blackstone.

[Max]: Yeah thanks for the brunch, I’ll make sure to talk toFather about your Gym’s funding and all that jazz.

The blonde trainer notices you and suddenly perks up.

[Max]: Oh! It’s one of those asswipes who hangs out with Dick.

[Max]: Hey, can I take care of this one? I’ll use one of the Gym’s mon and everything.

[Water Gym Leader]: (Sigh) Suit yourself.

The Gym employee seems visibly disheartened at this turn of event. She was hyped to get a chance to battle.

Vulpix doesn’t seem to care at all, she’s ready to battle and seems a bit too excited. “I’ll show you how much I’ve grown Trainer!

The demotivated Gym employee lets out her Dewott. The aquatic creature is initially as thrilled as his trainer was, but his expression turns sour once he learns that he isn’t going to be fighting alongside his trusted companion.

Even if he doesn’t like it, Dewott is a professional, he’ll listen to Maximillian without putting much of a fight.

The battle arena is quite ample, there aren’t any obvious gimmick. But you can tell that you are surrounded by more cameras than before. There are also a couple of serious-looking suits observing your battle from the sidelines, perhaps something about your battling style caught their interest, or maybe it’s because you are facing off against a professional trainer. The idea of being so thoroughly observed puts you off, but Vulpix seems to relish it. She likes the attention.

The Pokémon get in position. Max glances at you and then proceeds to stare down Vulpix, he seems strangely pleased. The Pikachu that is ever clinging onto his shoulder flips you off with his tiny paws.

Dewott starts to run towards Vulpix, building up speed. A thin water veil starts to form around here, enveloping him before he dashes at a tremendous speed. He reaches Vulpix in the blink of an eye. Your mon has barely a chance to react.

Vulpix is fast, but not enough. Dewott lunges toward Vulpix at an incredible speed. Your mon tries to get out of the way, trying to jump to the side but her efforts are rendered useless when the water type drives his knee to Vulpix’s temple.
>Vulpix is down to 65% of her health.

Her efforts at evasion trumped, Vulpix has no other choice than to grit her teeth and keep going. Her eyes glow eerily as she uses *Confuse Ray*, the effects are immediate. Dewott starts staggering from side to side, struggling to keep his view focused on Vulpix, his movements are slow, and he doesn’t seem to be completely in control of his motions.

Maximillian tells Dewott’s trainer to urge him to snap out of it. “Hey, tell your wet rat to get his act together”

Dewott's original trainer starts calling for him, telling him to snap out of it. She trusts Dewott to do a great job even if they aren’t fighting together. The words of his trainer reach Dewott as he steels himself and tries to shake off the confusion.

>Dewott is open to attacks for the next turn!
>Dewott might hurt itself next turn.

You got a chance to act this turn, better make it count!
>ATTACK. Focus on causing damage!
>EVADE. Use this chance to make some distance between the two and make evading easier.

And use…
>Extrasensory. Keep attacking Dewott’s mind
>Toxic. Use this chance to badly poison him with a direct bite, slathering the toxins on its wounds.
>Aurora Beam. Full Power.
>Icy Wind. Make him easier to hit and evade.

Lower that Attack stat, or at least get some better STAB damage in. We have to WIN, and if we can win clutch then all the better. I don't like that 65% HP she's on...

You order Vulpix to make some distance between Dewott and herself and strike with a ranged “Icy Wind” to lower its speed. While Dewott is shaking off his confusion Maximilliam orders him to use *Encore*.

>Crit Fail.

Vulpix jumps backward and tries to put some distance between her and Dewott. As she runs to the farthest side of the battlefield she uses *Icy Wind* to try and slow her opponent down. A chilling gust of wind blows in Dewott direction, but the aquatic Pokémon manages to snap out of his confusion and carefully avoid taking any real damage, the chilling breeze just barely affecting him.

Dewott takes out his scalchops and starts to slap their concave sides together, using *Encore*.

The sound of the clapping shells enthralls Vulpix. She suddenly stops attacking and trying to avoid Dewott. Instead, she stops dead on her tracks. You try to get her to ignore it, to focus only on attacking her opponent but it’s too late, she’s completely mesmerized.
Vulpix is lost in her little world, thanking a non-existent audience that surrounds her. “ Thank you, thank you! You are just too much! I’m just doing my best, I am!

She prepares to use Icy Wind once again, and she looks downright delighted to do so. A heartwarming smile is drawn on her face.
The only other times you’ve seen her look this happy was when you took her out from the “White Room” and when you got her costume.

>Vulpix can only evade and use Icy Wind for the next three rounds because of *Encore*.

Dewott, who is no longer confused cautiously approaches Vulpix, getting ready for her next attack.
>Dewott is at 95% of its health. No speed reduction.

You could use this turn to give her an item. Even if you have to force it on her.
>Full heal? Get her back in top fighting shape.
>A rare candy for a quick boost of energy?
>Give her your Ice stone, make her evolve mid-battle even if she hasn’t earned it yet. It may be risky, and training and controlling her will be harder from now on but it could turn this battle around.

Maybe you can use this in your favor, you could…
Start to clamor and cheer for Vulpix
>Tell her you to want to see more of her evasive maneuvers!
>Tell her that you want to see more of that *Icy Wind*
>Just cheer for her, pump her up.

Or you could take advantage of your *unique* talents
>Use your Poké-communication skills to distract Dewott. (Medium-Hard Roll)
>Try to make Vulpix snap out of it. (Very Hard roll)

Does using only Icy Wind mean we lose points? Does the spamming rule count, with Encore, or is it only when it's a conscious choice that it's considered cheap and boring.

>If not, Icy Wind again

[Percy]: Wait! Does this mean I lost points? I didn’t choose to spam the move!

[Max]: Of course you get your points deducted. This isn’t about being fair, it is about putting on a show!

[Max]:Stop bitching and get those points back.

[Gym Leader]: No, you don’t get those points deducted. We only use *Encore* to put you under the impression that you’ll lose points, to see how you perform under stress.

[Max]: Stop ruining my fun.

You start to cheer for Vulpix at the top of your lungs, complimenting her use of *Icy Wind* in battle, shouting that you are dying to see more of it. Loudred joins in because she just really wants to cheer for her battle-sister. Your shouts reach Vulpix who seems more decided and firmer than before.

>Icy Wind base power went from 55 to 75 for the duration of the encore!
>Vulpix loves getting attention, even if it’s fake.

[Max]: Ugh, so cheesy.

[Max]: Let’s end this. *Revenge*

Now, everything comes down to Vulpix, you can’t control her for the next couple of turns. The only thing you can do is hope she’s fast enough to get out of the way in time.

>Successful pass.

Once Dewott gets close enough, Vulpix unleashes another *Icy Wind*. The cold gust of wind hits Dewott directly, the wind manages to push him back a step. He tries to cover himself with his arms to avoid taking much damage, but Vulpix’s attack still manages to just partially froze parts of its arms and legs, little chunks of ice forming around the most affected areas of his body.

Even if the attack is seemingly strengthened due to Vulpix’s delusions. It’s not enough to cause much damage.

>Dewott is at 75% of his health
>Icy Wind lowered Dewott’s speed.

Dewott responds by using *Revenge*, he unleashes a series of punches and kicks onto Vulpix, each one strong enough to send Vulpix into a critical state or outright knock her out, but your team member manages to just barely dodge every single one of his attacks. His freezing muscles are making Dewott’s moving slower and sluggish. If you keep it up, she might have a chance to hit him with a CRIT. But if she fails to evade a single one of Dewott’s attack, she’ll be done for.

Roll me some 2d10. The first roll is for this round, and the second roll for the next one.
I need three rolls!
DC: (For both turns)
>5 to evade!
>4 to attack with another Icy Wind. (Needs two passes.)
If the first roll was a successful pass, I’ll add a (+1) modifier onto all second rolls. If it CRITS I’ll add a (+3) modifier.

Since you can’t give Vulpix’s order for the next three turns you decide to analyze your opponent. Maximillian seems tad a bit annoyed that Dewott missed his attack and is chewing out the Gym employee for it. You could try and use this moment to get some info out of him. After all, he is also looking for the Behemoths.

>Ask him if he knows anything about “giant Pokémon” appearing in the region.
>Ask him what is he doing here at Lacrimosa Bay with a group of armed Blackstone grunts.
>Ask him about Victoria, he might know something about her that could be of use.
>Try to get information out of his Pikachu instead.
>Don’t bother talking to him, he’s an asshole.
>Call him an asshole.

Double crit! The +3 from the evade crit brings the 1 up to a 4 so the attack crits as well right?

>>3886326
Holy shit, if Mediocre makes it so that
>We win within 5 turns and avoid losing points = -0
>We win with Vulpix at low enough health that we get the CLUTCH victory bonus = +10
>We get TWO CRIT point bonuses = +10, +10
>We get stylish Pokemon bonus = +5
>We used Vulpix = +10
then that would be absolutely 100% based. Too bad Dewott is still mono-Water and not Water/Fighting as a stage 2, or else we could have gotten the "win with type disadvantage" bonus off of A-Vulpix being mono-Ice. As it stands, we gain FORTY FIVE (45) FUCKING POINTS off of this fight if Mediocre lets it happen, and it would have been SEVENTY (70) FUCKING POINTS with the type disadvantage bonus if it was also the case here, which it is not.

Percy is at 75 points right now, before this battle.
After this battle, he will have reached a whopping 120 points. Also, reminder

Samurott is still mono-water as a stage 3. Disappointing, I know.
