Magic has returned to the world. Miracles are commonplace, beasts and dungeons have spawned everywhere and mystery has died. Empires have risen through the chaos and adventurers and heroes are the norm. This is humanity's newest age.You are Wilhem the Blacksmith, a vagabond with nothing but the clothes on your back and some iron ore to keep you company. In an age of magic, you just want to find purpose.
You’ve left home wanting to find some meaning in the world. A cozy job making mediocre weapons for soldiers who’ll die an early death never felt right with you. There has to be more to life, especially now. So you walked without any direction hoping to make it on your own. You aren’t too optimistic though. If you can’t find meaning, then you’ll at least make some great weapons.Thinking about it, it probably wasn’t the best idea to travel with no map, no money and no food. You found yourself trudging around some…>1. Forest>2. Mountains>3. Plains
Rolled 2 (1d2)just gonna roll for it, 1 is mountain, 2 is plains
You found yourself trudging around some Plains. Nothing but green open fields, some trees sprinkled in and a dungeon in the horizon.Well that's a good sign, where there are dungeons there are people, and where there are people there is money. It's been like 2 days since you last ate so you’re REALLY hoping to find someone to sell something to. You hope you don’t starve to death. Kinda worried if your old man outlasts you. That old fucker would be giving you shit for an eternity in the afterlife. Who are you kidding, he’s outliving the planet.Regardless you’re starving and bored, may as well head to the dungeon to see if you can’t find civilization unless…>1. let’s just stick to the dungeon>2. let’s try to find some fruit>3. let’s go hunting
>>3859704>2. let’s try to find some fruitberries and rodents
>>3859704>>2. let’s try to find some fruit
You’re too hungry to head to the dungeon straight away, but not too hungry to go hunting, may as well try to find some fruit on the walk there. You shimmy up every tree and scavenge every shrub on the way to your destination. You saw some rodents gnawing on the fruit you found so it's probably not poison. Hopefully. Eh 50/50.To your surprise it tastes incredibly sweet, like little purple balls of carmel. You almost got distracted by how great they tasted and started rummage every tree and shrub in sight, trying to find more and more of these. Half an hour passed and you’re completely stuffed, you got a bit messy at the end, your face and hands are covered with the stuff but everything is looking your way. You haven’t felt this full since you started traveling, maybe things won’t be so bad?Yeah that feeling didn’t last long at all…Cont.
>>3859774You started hearing a few murmurs behind you but you couldn’t see anything. Fun was over, you gotta go right now. You started walking away like normal making sure not to look behind but it kept getting louder, you started sped up but the noise was still pursuing you, you started running but the noise wouldn’t let up. You finally turned around.Goblins, riding on fucking boars. Just your luck. There are 5 of them, not too bad but still enough to kill you. You aren’t outrunning them, and even if you do they’ll just sniff you out, these little shits have a nose better than a bloodhound and you’re covered in fruit. Guess there’s no way out of itBefore the Goblins can catch up to you, you pulled out the iron ore you found at the start of the trip, about as big as your head, a great find but you were hoping to use it at a town. Oh well, it's now or never. You hold the ore tightly in both hands, it starts heating up and cracking, sparks are flying everywhere, and its softening in your hands. Its ready, you concentrate and think of a design, you’ve decided, you’re making…>1. a spear>2. a longsword>3. a war hammer>4. A war axe>5. Other(write in)
>1. a spear
>>3859804You're making a spear. You aren’t particularly good at fighting but you’re a blacksmith, you should know how to wield a weapon if you want to put your heart and soul into it. Thankfully you were calm enough to make a spear. Probably the weapon you feel most comfortable welding and a good choice for this situation. The spear is made entirely out of the iron ore and you were its creator so it should be strong enough to rip through all of your attackers. DC for one was 40, DC for two was 70You taunt them. You stuck your tongue out at them and kept playing around with your newly made spear, waiting for them to come at you. They looked pretty agitated, they kept growling and turned even more feral than before. You took note of what they had on them. 2 of them had short swords, 1 had an axe, and 2 remaining had spears. They didn’t have much armor to speak of so you should be able to end it quickly if your attacks land.Your plan worked. Usually Goblins would circle around their prey take their shots at them, slowly withering them down until they keel over and die. Taunting them really riled them up. They didn’t even think to plan anything or play it smart, they just wanted you dead. Guess you're giving these green shit stains too much creditThe Goblins with spears were the first ones to reach you. You sidestepped them before they could land a hit and with all your might, you swung your nameless spear at the 2. They were both ripped in half, their torsos falling to the ground and the boars they were riding running away, carrying what was left of them.Their friends were too confused to make sense of what was happening, so you took the opportunity and…> 1. Attacked their mounts. You summoned as much power as your legs could give you and charged at the Goblin closest to you. It was enough to cleanly pierce through the boar’s skull, going to a dead stop and flinging its rider off. You were quick enough to retrieve your spear before the remaining 2 could notice what you were doing. The two remaining Goblins finally faced you and were about to start charging once more, but before they could pick up any speed, you reached one of them. You rammed the tip of your spear as hard as you could into the boar’s skull, ending its life instantly. The only remaining Goblin with a mount is the one with the axe, one of them is still reeling in pain from getting launched off the boar and there’s a Goblin right in front of you. You may have put a bit too much power into the spear when you killed the boar as it seems to be lodged into the ground. You think on your feet and you…> 1. Tried retrieving your spear> 2. Ran for one of the weapons the dead Goblins had. You aren’t wasting time trying to get your spear and you shouldn’t be so close to a Goblin with a weapon at hand. Better get another weapon from one of the dead Goblins, it’ll be faster that way.You bolt it towards one of the corpses but the last Goblin rider is hot on your trail. You keep dodging and rolling out of the way but it will not let up, you aren’t too sure if you’ll have enough time to grab a weapon and meet one of its hits in time. You managed to reach the dismembered torso of the Goblin you killed earlier, its spear right by its side, however the Goblin rider is a few seconds away from hitting you. Out of pure instinct, you grabbed the Goblin corpse by the head and flung it at the rider as hard as you could. The axe wielding Goblin was dismounted and the boar ran away, all the mounts are gone. You stopped for a few seconds. “What the fuck is wrong with me” you told yourself as it finally registered that you just threw a dead body at something. You picked up the spear and carried on. “Ah… The old man might’ve been right about me” you whispered to yourself. After collecting yourself, you stabbed the dismounted Goblin in the throat and you finally noticed the 2 sword wielding Goblins that are charging at you in opposite directions. You take a deep breath and charge at one of the Goblins. You’re actually getting quite angry now that you think about it, what with these 5 little green rats ruining your post meal afterglow, having to fight to the death instead of making weapons and money, and having to use your only iron ore on a nameless spear that you have no idea where it might be. No you aren’t angry, you’re fucking pissed. Covered in fucking Goblin blood and whatever piss and shit these little fuckers have on them only reminds you of how much you hate them. Before you know it, you’re face to face with one of these little shits and you took no time at all to impale it into the ground. You let go of your spear, calmly walked around the now dead Goblin and faced the Goblin charging towards you. You kicked the impaled Goblin as hard as you could towards the one charging at you, the dead one laying on the soon to be killed one with the spear still firmly in its chest. Before it could try to get up you lorded it over it and slowly pushed down the spear into its chest. You just stared at the bodies for a little while. You took a deep breath. You’re tired, out of breath, you almost died and you actually had to fight. You finally screamed, “FUCK THIS, FUCK EVERYONE.” This was not your day. “Hello?” you finally noticed that there was someone else. Cont.
>>3860049You turned and there was a girl staring at you. She looked a bit confused just looking at you for a few seconds in silence"Uh..." you finally said something "Yeah, I had to kill some Goblins" you said bluntly “I noticed.. Are you alright” she askedYou scratch your cheek “Well other than being covered in Goblin shit and blood, I’m alright, didn’t get hurt… May have lost my cool though…”“Yeah… I noticed” she said “I heard some fighting going around here and then someone started screaming, I thought you got stabbed or something”“No no, I just got a little angry” you nervously chuckled “Got a little lost, was starving, almost died, you know, anyone would’ve just lost it.”“Yeah” she sighed in relief, “At least you’re alright” she reaches out for a handshake “My name is Elisheba.”You accept it “I’m Wilhem, I’m a blacksmith” “Blacksmiths can fight?” she says with a bit of surprise “The shitty ones can’t, no, but I still wouldn’t really say I’m that good of a fighter” you answered“Don’t sell yourself short, it’s impressive you did this all on your own.” she replied, “Look, I’m on my way to Yorktown, it’s the mainstay for anyone that wants to go dungeon diving or do guild work. I’m an adventurer if you couldn’t guess and you look like you need some help. I can show you the way, it’s no problem.”You smiled. Well, I guess today isn’t that bad. You answer...> 1. I wanna loot for a bit” You ask“Oh it’s no problem at all, actually I can help if you need it, as long as you don’t mind sharing.” she chuckles“No no it’s fi-” You stop yourself from answering and think for a second. Some people get a little squirrely if they see what I’m about to do, even some veterans find it pretty gross. I wouldn’t wanna scare her off if she saw what I was doing, she is my ticket to Yorktown, plus she seems nice and I don’t really want her thinking less of me.“Actually, if you don’t mind, there are 2 dead boars around here, if you carry 1 of them, that’d be fantastic” you said“Boars?” she lights up “I love boar!” she almost shouts as she runs off to find themAlright. You start walking towards one of the Goblin corpses and crouch down beside it. “Not gonna lie, thought this was disgusting the first few times gramps showed me.” You grab a handful of dirt in one hand crush it in your hands, sparks start flying everywhere until you create a 750 ml bottle.“But I really started warming up to it lately” you touch the Goblin’s corpse and start pulling at the air. Its blood beginning to flow out of every pour, its body shriveling up and turning pale. The blood just floats in the palm of your hand. You move it all into the newly made bottle. “Alright then.. Now for the bones”'''Obtained: 750 ml of Goblin Blood, Goblin Skeleton, Goblin Skin, 2 swords, 2 spears, 1 Axe'''Okay then, everything is in storage, now all I need is my spear. Where did I put it again?“WIL!!!!” Elisheba shouts at you as she runs to you, Guess Wil is my nickname? Pretty personable already. You finally noticed that she’s carrying back both of the boars and one of them seems to have a spear lodged in its cranium. She’s surprisingly strong for her size, guess that's an adventurer for you.“WIL!” she keeps shouting even though she’s right in front of you “We are going to feast tonight!”“Ah… that does sound good right about now, I’m already hungry” you said “But first things first” you say as you pull out your spear that’s still in the boar “Gonna need to name this” you start inspecting the spear“You name weapons?” Elisheba asks“You name children?” you retort“Oh… okay I understand sorry...” she actually sounded a bit bad “It’s no big deal, you just didn’t know” you reassured her “It’s just… important… Everything needs a name, if it has heart, it needs a name, or else there’s no point...” you get a bit lost when you say that. It starts disappearing into it the more pressure you apply“What are you… Is that magic?” Elisheba looks in amazement “Yeah, it’s a neat little trick I picked up from my granddad, blacksmiths and the like can’t be expected to carry everything on their person, so why not try to carry it in your person instead?” Lagun is finally in storage“Do you have any other abilities?” Elisheba says not able to hide the curiosity in her voice “How about you show me yours before I do that?” you respond“Uh…” she hesitates for a second “Yeah, thought so, can’t give up all the trade secrets you know? Need to leave a bit of mystery in the world.” you say“Alright alright, let’s just gooooo” she says a bit disappointedIt’s smooth sailing on the trek to Yorktown. Elisheba is surprisingly dependable, thought she might’ve been too bubbly what with how she quickly warmed up to you. She knows exactly where she’s going without any roads to guide her, almost like she knows where the hotspots for monsters are and is trying her best to avoid a fight. She also didn’t let you put any of the boars in storage, something about wanting to train a bit on the walk there, you get the feeling that she’s much more competent than you in certain ways.> 1. Alright we're going to Yorktown, writing now
>>3860379You and Elisheba didn’t dilly dally, you went as fast as you could to Yorktown, there was enough craziness for one day and you feel disgusting and tired. You REALLY hope that Elisheba won’t notice the former. Before you know, the moon was out and you arrived at your destination. Yorktown isn’t like anything you’ve ever seen before, then again you never really left home until recently. Regardless, it’s odd from what you could piece together. The town looks like it was carved right at the side of the Dungeon that its being lorded over. None of the buildings seem to be lit with candle light, are they even using any fire? And there seems to be a mechanical contraption in the horizon that always travels on the same bridge. Is it some kind of new mount you haven’t been kept up to date to?“Wil” Elisheba says as she punches you in the arm “Are you alright?”“Yeah… yeah… Just a bit of culture shock, this is a bit new to me” you say“What is?”“Everything”She smiles a bit “It’s fine, it's a little new to me too, I’ve never been to an Adventurer town so we’re both in it together alright”You scratch your cheek “Yeah… you’re right thanks. We should probably take the boar to some butcher, I am not letting that thing spoil after all the trouble it caused me”You and Elisabeth head over to the local butcher. You’re still amazed and a bit taken aback by how strange the outside world is. Has the old man being holding you back? No, no, you try not to dwell on that, you’re still young enough to be amazed by what the world might have in store.Cont.
>>3860469“Your name is Butch?” Elisabeth says a bit shocked“Ye” Butch the Butcher says bluntly“So… Uh-uhm…. H-how?” she keeps stuttering“My parents asked wha my name should be to a wizard” Butch answers“Okay we’re gonna be here all night and I’m starving, can you just help us out with the boars?” you interject“Welllllll, the brains are mush.” Butch says“Yeah I did that, yes” you say“Coulda made a bit of money if you had more tact, a lot of folks LOVE some brains, not just for eating either” Butch responds“Wait really? Huh… I’ll keep that in mind” you say a bit intrigued Elisheba looks at the both of you a bit shocked but you turn away from her. Should probably keep these sorts of things to myself…“Anyway, I can smoke it or just keep it frozen so you can cut it open yourself, first one is cheaper though since I keep everything that isn’t the meat.” Butch says“Frozen? What?” you say a bit confused“We’ll have it frozen” Elisheba answers“Ah what a shame… anyway that’ll be 2 silvers coins” Butch says“Uh……” you say this as you slowly turn to Elisheba. She rolls her eyes.“It’s fine I got it… I’m the one who asked anyway, and you were the ones that killed them. Thankfully I still have enough to stay at an inn.” she says as she pays up.You clasp your hands “Thank you so much, I owe you one”“It’s fine. By the way, Butch, cut us out 2 pieces, thats gonna be our dinner” Elisheba says“Aye aye” Butch saysYou and Elisheba both walk out with your dinner. You use your blacksmithing magic to cook both of the boar chunks much to Elisheba’s amazement and delight. Maybe you should tell her more about yourself? What do you even want to do anyway? What’s the game plan with her? Do you think she’d want to partner up with you? Questions for tomorrow, as you’ve now noticed once again that you have no money and no place to sleep and that takes precedence.> 1. Try to find a nice floor to sleep on for the night> 2. Beg Elisheba to share a room
>>3860507> 1. Try to find a nice floor to sleep on for the nightSo can I sleep on your floor tonight? All I need is a pillow.
alright Wil is sleeping on the floor, writing
You sigh, you’ve just accepted that you’re gonna sleep gonna be homeless for a night. Before you and Elisheba go your separate ways you ask her “Hey so… You want to meet up tomorrow? I don’t know my way around… Anywhere and I feel like I owe you a bit.”Elisheba smiles “Of course, I’d love to see you again, maybe we can team up, I feel like I can trust you. Plus I do want to know how that magic of yours works.”You laugh a little “Still on about that huh? Alright, I’ll show you tomorrow though I should warn you, I’m not much good at anything else.” “It’s fine” she reassures you “I’d rather fight with someone I trust before anything else. Let’s meet up at the Adventurer’s Guild tomorrow alright? I still need to register, we can talk there.”You smile “Sounds like a plan.”You say your goodbyes and you walk off. So she’s just starting out huh? Why do you get the feeling that there has to be more to her? She doesn’t feel like a rookie. She’s nice though, you should remember that, but maybe you should be more careful? You don’t get why it’s so weird to you that a girl you just met is being lovely. Do you really have that low of an opinion of people? Whatever, you don’t want to think about it.Cont.
>>3860689You walk around Yorktown, taking in the scenery before spotting a few people sleeping near an alley. They’re wearing armor and some of them have some weapons, definitely not bums. Are they adventurers? As you approached them you see one of them is still awake, just fidgeting around.“Mind if I rest here” you ask him“Oh yeah, no problem at all” he seems lot in his own head just staring at the wall as you take a seat“It’s pretty warm here, that’s why some people choose this spot if they don’t have any money.“What kind of adventurer doesn’t have any money?” you question“The kind that wants to buy weapons.” the young adventurer says. You couldn’t help but grin. This day really turned around for you.“I’m Wilhem” you say“Conor.” the young adventurer responds “So you all need weapons huh?” you say “Well… lucky you I’m a blacksmith.”Conor lights up “Really? Wait seriously?”He almost starts begging “This is great! I’m really in need of a weapon Mr. Wil, I really want to be an adventurer but I’m not to sure what I need or how to start and i don’t have that much money and-”“Whoa whoa.” you’re a little surprised. “Take it easy, people are sleeping, and Mister? I’m 18, I’m not that old. Look, how about you do me a solid and I help you out a little. Wake up a little early tomorrow and stay up until everyone else is awake. When everyone is ready to go out questing, you wake me up so I can make some weapons, sound like a plan?”Conor frantically nods “Alright thanks dude, this is perfect. I’m going to sleep alright? I think you should too. Don’t wanna be too tired when you’re out on the field alright.”Akira takes your advice to heart and goes to sleep. Lord almighty, you really need some money right about now. “Wilhem!” Conor shouts “Everyone is about to leave!”“Calm down Conor, I changed my mind a bit, we’re going to the Guild, I’m making some money, you are going to become an Adventurer and I’m gonna make sure you don’t die.”Conor almost gets on his hands and knees as you say “Thank you so much Wilhem.” “Chill out, good lord, I don’t want you dying cause that’ll make me look bad” you snap backYou whisper under your breath “Things are not gonna get any easier” “Alright” you clap “Walk with me” Conor loyally follows “So how much does the average weapon cost in Yorktown anyway?” you ask him“For something really high quality? About 10 gold coins” he answers“Is that a lot?” you say“Ye-yeah…” Conor says“Alright I’ll sell at… I don’t know. 1 silver coin? Yeah that sounds about right. What does that even get me?”“Well, you can stay at Yorktown’s best inn for a night, you can buy some nice trinkets at the market, you can hire an adventurer to do a quest for you.” Conor answers“Seems like a lot, how much do you have on you bud?” you say“About, 50 bronze coins” Conor says“You sure you’re going questing today?” you say“Absolutely” Conor says with confidence“That’s what I love to hear. Alright, this’ll cost you all your money so you better win it back today and more today. But first...” you look at the building in front of you. The Adventurer’s Guild“I’m knowledge about a few things Conor so believe me when I say this,” you say as you open the Guild’s doors and enter “Take it slow please, you’re just starting out, you got determination but that’ll only get you so far, please take a Goblin Slaying quest. These little vermin are everywhere but they’re weak and easy to handle. Start there alright?”“Of course!” Conor answers with gustoCont.
>>3860845It’s noisy, chaotic, there are people everywhere and you aren’t too sure how anyone can navigate or function. Merchants trying to sell their wares, adventurers running around trying to find work, some people just messing around, drinking and having a laugh. Is that a body on the ground? No wait, it’s 3 bodies. Guess this is just something you have to get used to. You wonder if Elisheba is here? You hope she’s looking for you if she is.“Would I even be able to sell anything here?” you tell yourself“Whatever, Conor, come here” you gesture to him, you pick some corner of the guild and sit down. “Alright buddy, if you’re going Goblin Slaying, you need the right weapon” you pull out a short sword from your palm“How did you-” “I am not done speaking” you interrupt him“Goblins aren’t shit alright? This rusty piece of trash is enough to kill a horde of them but I’m not gonna send you off with this. Watch, stay quiet, and let me work.” you tell ConorYou grab onto the fuller of the short sword and review. Okay quality iron despite the rust, not too old and a bit dull. The sword is enough on its own. You start to work, you tighten grabs and sparks start flying everywhere, Conor looks in silence, amazed at what’s happening before him. The sword has soften and its ready to be worked on. What should you do?> 1. Make it light up when in the presence of Goblins> 2. Make it self repair when contacting Goblin blood> 3. >>3860848>Make it light up when in the presence of Goblins

>>3860848Yeah, it should light up. Goblins are skeevy little fuckers. Sneak attacks are common for them, should be especially useful in forests and caves and you wouldn’t want Conor to die from a sucker punch. You place the softened sword right in front of you as you take out the bottle of Goblin Blood you had saved up.The sword floats as you make the preparations. You open the bottle up and drizzle it around the sword, waiting a moment for it to seep through. For the finishing touches, you take out the Goblin skull from your storage and crush it. Sparks fly as it turns to powder. With both hands, you ball up the softened sword and the Goblin powder together. You take a moment to think of the perfect design. You got it.You stretched the steel and smoothed it out. You carefully detail the sword, mold the handle, remove the impurities and sharpen the blade. It’s finishedYou present the new sword to Conor “Here.”He’s astonished “What was that… I don’t… No, nevermind thank you.”“Remember, Goblin Quests alright? And one more thing, if you want to do something like that, don’t try to copy me” you poke Conor’s chest “It’s you. You’re the only you out there, what you do and who you are is exclusive to you, remember that and you’ll figure out how to do some magic.” “Thank you Wilhem, seriously” Conor says “Alright, alright… Go do your thing, I have to work and I’m meeting up with someone later. Oh yeah, and pay up everything you have, I’m broke and I don’t feel like sleeping in a dirty alley tonight” you sayConor nods, gives you all his money and runs off to the registryBefore he disappears you shout “OH YEAH AND NAME THAT SWORD. IF YOU DON’T, I’M KICKING YOUR ASS” You finally noticed the crowd of people surrounding you. Guess that was quite a show huh? They all seem to be pretty eager buyers Before you do anything else you check inventory. 1 Axe, 1 Sword, 2 Spears, Lagun, Bottle of Goblin blood is ⅔ empty, Goblin skeleton is headless and the Goblin skin is intact. Also got 50 bronze coins for my trouble, not bad at all. What should I do?> 1. Upgrade Lagun> 2. Remake the sword you made for Conor for yourself> 3. Start Selling.> 4. Look for Elisheba
>>3860995>Look for Elisheba
>>3861069looks like Wilhem is lookin for the redhead
>>3860995You stand up and dust yourself off. You’re pretty happy with the sword you made Conor, you got a good feeling about him. Also feels like divine justice against those little shits that gave you so much trouble yesterday, they hit you so you send someone to kill their family. Life is fair like that. You look at the crowd waiting for you to say something “Sorry folks, can’t help you today, gotta do some business right now, maybe later.” They actually look a bit disappointed. Did you really make that much of an impression? It feels off. It’s rare for you to pass up on crafting weapons or making money. Maybe that red head means more to you than you thought? Eh, who knows. Couldn’t hurt to have a bodyguard with you either way. And you can’t let that weird feeling you get from her leave. “Wil!” you hear someone call you, it’s Elisheba. You finally meet up “Wil, I just got here, I really hope I didn’t make you wait” she says“It’s fine, I started working a bit today but cut it short, wanted to see if you were around” you tell her“Oh yeah!” she says with excitement “I wanted to ask you something.”“Hmm?” you raise your brow“I want to team up with you” she smiles, “I think we’d make a great combo”“Wait what seriously? We just met yesterday and I’m not really a fighter, I struggled with 5 goblins.”“Don’t sell yourself short, you had to deal with some boars too and those aren’t something you can take on casually, but whatever, it doesn’t matter, what matters is trust don’t you remember? Something like that is rare.” Elisheba states“Yeah but how..? How do you even know that, we did just meet like a day ago” you ask a bit confused“Look…” she says as she crossed her arms “How about I tell you how I know if we team up alright? Deal?”Well you did want this to happen so… “Deal.” you say with a bit of hesitation“Alright” she grabs your hand let’s go register You look at her dumbfounded “Wait what.” “Well yeah, you can’t do any guild work if you don’t register.” you almost hit yourself for forgetting that detail.“Ah… yeah… fine, let’s go” you say as she drags you offCont.
>>3861195“Welcome!” The receptionist greets you both“My name is Mara, how can I help you?”“We’re looking to become adventurers” Elisheba states with enthusiasm “Fantastic! The world could always use more help.” Mara brings out 2 forms “Just fill out these applications and you’ll be ready to go!”You and Elisheba find a table to sit on. The applications is pretty standard, name, date of birth, skills, etc. It was always weird to you how bureaucracy was steeped into adventuring, it seems unnatural. Regardless, you pushed forward.“WAIT WHAT” you shout“What, what is it? Are you alright?” Elisheba is taken aback “You have to give the fucking guild 20% of your winnings? That’s bullshit, that should be a crime.” you start getting angry“Doesn’t seem like that big a deal…” she says quietly“YES IT IS, THERE’S A PRINCIPLE TO THIS SORTA THING ELISHEBA!” you start shouting “It’s really not that big a deal, even low tier adventurers make enough money to live a comfortable” she rebuts “Yeah cause they die before they can retire, this is horseshit...” you pout“C’mon, please stop complaining, I really don’t want to sleep on the streets tonight.” she says“Oh that how terrible.” you roll your eyes“Wait did you-”“Yes I did” you cut her off “I mean, it wasn’t too bad, almost comfy actually, I even made a new friend. But fine whatever, 20% isn’t that bad, what is that? Like half?”Her eyes widen “Wait what?” Before this turns into a whole thing, you both finish and hand in your applications.“Fantastic! Everything seems to be in order, all you need to do is pick your first assignment.” Mara says“Yes!” Elisheba pumps her fists, you and Mara both stare at her for a second as she notices what she did. Her face starts turning red “Alright then” Mara coughs as she starts talking again “Here’s what you can do”> 1. Dungeon Crawling> 2. Quest: Bear Hunting > 3. Quest: Deliver A Package> 4. Why is this a quest, any bum with a rake can kill a bear.” “I don’t think that’s true at all but this quest is a little weird… 1 gold coin?” Elisheba says“Yeah that ain’t shit” you respond“Wil that’s a lot of money, especially for a first time quest.” she retorts“Oh… I’ll just stay quiet then.” you under your breath “Ah so you noticed” Mara scratches her head “Yeah this is a weird one, Wil is sorta correct, bears aren’t a real problem here, usually we have people kill any that might pose a threat on their way to the dungeon or some other quest but this particular bear is a bit more problematic.”“In what way?” Elisheba questionsMara explains “It’s smarter than you’d expect for an animal and bigger than the average bears around here, we think it wandered out the Yorktown’s Dungeon without anyone noticing”“Alright perfect, where is it?” you interject“Oh, uh, it was last spotted near a village called Kettlewell, it’ll take you about an hour to walk there if you stay on the road” Mara answers“Fantastic, alright let’s go Elisheba” you drag her out of the Guild“Wait, waiiiiit, what are you planning on doing?” you finally let go of her “You seem really sure of yourself.” she says“Well yeah, I’m gonna make a weapon to kill the thing and you’re gonna wield it” you say bluntly “Oh? You’re really that confident in the both of us” Elisheba sounds a bit interestedYou both walk out of Yorktown, “Well, I’m confident that I will make something that’ll rip open that bear.”“By the way, I think we should be a little more honest with ourselves if we’re gonna be partners” you state“In what way?” Elisheba asks“Well let’s start with this. I know you can use magic too.”“I didn’t really hide it.” she says“You kinda did, not too sure what kinda magic you’re capable of” you start inquiring “Same goes for you, I know your magic has something to do with smithing but that’s all I got” she snaps back“Fantastic point, alright then, I’ll show you some of what I can do and give you the rundown and I expect you to do the same.” you say“Some?” she says“Let’s just see how today plays out alright?” you say “Oh by the way, other than that spear and sword you carry around, are you decent at wielding any other weapons?”“I’m pretty good at everything, you don’t have to worry” she respondsAny weapon at all huh? Perfect, gives you a lot of leeway to do what you need to do. It should also be heavy and you should try to enhance it with whatever you have on me, you know she can handle it, she carried 2 boars around like it was nothing and we need some firepower to kill that bear quickly. >>3861536You aren't actually allowed to work for the guild or get any of the neat perks if you don't register. Registering for the guild is also the only legit way of dungeon crawling. Also the reward is given out once, so if the quest rewards 100 bronze coins and there are 2 people in a group, the 20% tax applies once and they split the remaining 80 bronze coins. >>3861532A Trident, it’s perfect. You already have the design in your head, you’re going to have to go through a good chunk of your inventory have if you want to make it powerful.“Alright, listen up Elisheba.” you say “This is how much magic works”She’s focused, ready to hear you“My magic is odd, it’s not like the normal “recite an incantation” or “focus your inner energy into your back”, it’s something different. If I can picture a weapon in my head, I know I can make it into a reality.”“I have a picture of a trident in my head already, if I felt like it, I could use the dirt on the ground to make it, but that wouldn’t be quality would it?”You pull out a shortsword “That’s why I need this”“How do you pull out those weapons? Where do you even store them” she asks“It’s probably the most normal magic I have, I can essentially store any nonliving thing inside of myself, but I still feel the weight of carrying them, so carrying something like say… A building is out of the question.”“Anyway, onto the main event” You grip the shortsword as it starts heating up and softening“I know the makeup of the sword, I don’t really understand it sometimes, but that information is beamed into my head. If I concentrate on this certain trigger in my head, the weapon in my hand will breakdown, and sparks will fly everywhere. The sparks are the undesirable parts of the weapon. I had no use for some rust and a wooden handle of the sword so they were reduced to sparks.” “What’s that certain trigger?” says Elisheba“Fire” you turn what’s left of the sword into a ball and set it aside “The smell, how it crackles, the color, the heat, I don’t need actual fire if I just imagine it.” You get lost in thought for a secondCont.
>>3861638“Anyway” You pull out 2 spears and melt them down “There’s a bit more to this”You start shaping and combining the melted weapons and morphing it into your chosen design. The trident starts coming together. You pull out the bottle of Goblin blood out of your person.“If I have certain material and add it to the weapon, it starts taking some strange properties. It’s like enchantment.” “What’s in the bottle?” Elisheba asksYou hesitate to say “...Goblin blood” She’s a bit shocked but gets over it long enough to hear you finish explaining.“It’s not uncommon for wizards, butchers, witches and tailors to use the parts of animals for their own ends, I’m the same. If you’re not comfortable with that, I understand, but I won’t stop.”She takes a deep breath before speaking “I’m not comfortable with it but… I can live with it”“Thank you.” you dump all the blood into the trident. “Whatever is in a monster’s blood, it sure reacts well when I pour it into one of my weapons.” The trident hardens and cools off, it’s ready “My old man taught me everything I know. It was always so strange to me, what I had, what my magic was, now it’s just who I am, and I wouldn’t have it any other way” You present the trident to Elisheba. She stands there for a minute reviewing everything you told her. She finally accepts it.“Thank you, truly. What’s the name by the way?” she says> 1. Madhu> 2. Trishula> 3. Neptune> 4. “Forkfu” you say with a straight face“...Forkfu?” Elisheba repeats“Forkfu.” you say doubling down“Why.” she asks a bit confusedYou see where this is going and you put your foot down “Alright… you think you're slick huh? You are not getting out of this, show me your magic right now or I’m taking Forkfu away from you”“N-no I’m serious wh-” she says before being cut off“ELISHEBA. MAGIC. NOW.” you shout“FINE. Fine.” she relents. You feel a bit proud of yourselfShe taps her head “It’s all here”“Your brain is magic?” you say“No no, not like that.” she starts explaining “Everyone has some positive and negative emotions, intentions and energy to them, I can sense it. Something positive feels pleasant, something negative is unnerving. It’s extremely helpful when I want to avoid or track down some monsters. They usually gave me a headache before I got used to it.”“Ah ha, sounds kinda terrible, but really useful, especially in this line of work.” you start connecting the dots in your head after hearing about Elisheba’s abilities before blurting something out “WAIT A SECOND. IS THAT WHY YOU TRUST ME? I DON’T GIVE YOU A HEADACHE?”Cont.
>>3866978(ah my bad, forgot the name)“You’re starting to give me a headache right now.” she says“Ah… Sorry…” you feel a little badShe chuckles “I’m kidding, I’m kidding. But to answer you, I never got that off feeling from you. It’s odd, most priests and knights that I’ve met had some underlying awfulness underneath their decency. You had none of that, you were just good. Either you’re great at hiding it or there’s nothing bad about you. That’s rare to me” You can’t help but feel a little satisfied when hearing that. Though it seems weird to you that every priest and knight she’s met didn’t give her some migraine. Maybe she’s not as good at sensing people out as she thinks she is?“Is that all the magic you know?” you say“Other than the basics, yeah that about it.” she says before walking back her answer “Actually… There is one thing I’ve been working on for a while but it’s not really ready yet.”This piqued your interest “Can you show me?”She thinks it through before answering “Like I said, it’s not really ready, plus this is the sort of magic that’s a bit situational.”“Sounds weirdly ominous. I’m totally making you show me one day” you say committing yourself to your new goal “As if you could make me.” Elisheba taunted “Don’t think I didn’t forget that you still have some more tricks up your sleeve. I’m definitely finding you out first.”You feel a bit more comfortable with Elisheba now. Even if she’s still a stranger to you, you feel like teaming up with her was one of the smarter things you’ve done since you were on your own. What should you do now?>1. >>3866980>1. Discuss your current quest with ElishebaStart planning
>>3866980You and Elisheba wandered around the road for a little while hoping to find a sign to point you to Kettlewell. Maybe you should’ve bought a map or actually asked for directions instead of leaving immediately. Thankfully you were on the right road. You lucked out this time but you don’t plan on letting your impatience screw either of you over during your quest.“Elisheba, we should come up with a plan” you finally say“Hmm? Thought we’d figure it out when we get to Kettlewell” she saysNormally you’d agree but you might as well be smart about it, this is the first time you’ve actually went on a quest. Usually you’d just hear stories about it from whatever customers that’d find themselves at the old man’s place but there’s only so much that second hand stories from soon to be dead people could prepare you for.“Better safe than sorry” you reply “So what do we know about this bear we gotta kill?”“Nothing.” she says“Wait what. Seriously? Nothing?” you’re shocked“Yup, nothing.” she saysYou try to get to the bottom of this “How do we not know anything? Did the village not give the guild any info? Is this quest too new? Is that bear more mysterious than we thought? This is so weird...”“Yeah I couldn’t answer any of your questions and it’s honestly not that weird”“Why is that?”“You dragged me out of Yorktown before I could ask anything about the quest.” she says with a straight faceYou slowly turned away feeling more embarrassed by the second. You're really starting to regret leaving Yorktown without asking more questions. You…>1. Apologize and move on>2. Stay silent for a minute before talking again and just try to come up with a plan.>3. >>3867263>3. Completely ignore what she told you and continue the conversation.
>>3867263You keep quiet for a minute. You’ve already embarrassed yourself enough and you don’t want her thinking that you’re a moron. You finally speak “So anyway… How about we talk about how we fight the thing?” “Yeah sure, it’d be pretty boring if we just walked in silence for an hour, might as well strategize a bit.” Elisheba says“Okay, so let’s make some things clear, I am not a fighter. If this bear is really that big a deal then I’m not gonna be able to do anything. That’s why I’m relying on you…” you point to the trident that Elisheba held on to“...and Forkfu to gouge out that bear’s throat.”She holds up Forkfu “Why’d you make this anyway? You know I have a spear right? And you have one too.”“Don’t question me on this, I may be a little dumb in certain areas… But making weapons is not one of them. Different situations call for different weapons and a trident is what we need for a bear. Our weapons aren’t exactly high quality so we need something that’s best suited for the job” “Yeah you have a point.” she thrusts the trident a few times to get a feel for it “...You did something to this didn’t you?”“I do something to everything I make yes, but I definitely augmented a few things to Forkfu.”She swings the trident “It feels weirdly easier to thrust and jab with this but I don’t know if I'm imagining it.”“You definitely aren’t, I modified the sharp bites of Forkfu, should go a tad bit faster and pierce a tad bit better. Pretty impressive what a bit of iron and goblin blood can do huh?”She examines the blades “I don’t think I’m ever getting used to you making weapons”“Alright, enough of that. But yeah, to continue, that’s why I made it, a polearm gives you the range to stab at someone while still giving you some distance if things don’t go your way, especially useful for a bear that could maul you to death if you aren’t careful.”“That still doesn’t explain why a trident instead of a spear” she counters“It’s a big bear right? Better 3 pointed tips aiming for an artery instead of the 1. If it misses, well… It’s still got 3 holes in its neck.”She looks a bit impressed “You actually kinda thought this through huh?”“I try my best” You shrug “However, the effectiveness of Forkfu hinges on your own abilities. I’m not up to the task and I’m not sure about you.”Cont.
>>3867609Hearing this, she thrusts Forkfu as hard as she could right in front of you. She made sure not to do it so close to you that you would think she tried hurting you but you could still feel a little shock through the air. You feel reassured. She’s definitely killing that bear.“What are you going to do while I fight the bear?” Elisheba asksYou think for a minute “At best? Watch you gut the thing from behind a rock or tree. At worst? Bait.”“I kinda don’t really want you doing either of those things.”“And yet it’s going to happen anyway.” you sigh “There’s still the problem of finding the bear…”“We could ask around Kettlewell, shouldn’t be too hard to get someone to help us out. I was also thinking of using bait to lure out the bear. Depending on the terrain, we could beat the thing before it notices we’re even there.”Everything is falling into place. If Elisheba is right about that reward, then you won’t have to worry about going to bed hungry or homeless for a long while. And if that bear is really so special, then you’re gonna be having a field day turning that thing into a nice suit of armor. It was about time you replace yours and actually wore something decent. Finally got a lead after some time.“Oh that? Must be the Gordy” the stranger says“Gordy?” you say“Yeah, Gordy, he’s a little old man that’s been here all his life, guess he isn’t letting this go.”You’re a bit confused “What do you mean?”The stranger shakes his head “Better you ask him, it’s not my place, plus you are gonna talk to him right?”“Right you are my good sir.” you say politelyThe stranger points to the bar “He’s usually drowning himself in whatever liquor they sell over there, you should check there.”“Thanks dude, I owe you one” you salute as you leave to find Elisheba“Elisheba! Plus I doubt the handful of adventurers that came to Kettlewell before us would try to swindle an old man” she whispers“You are giving way too much credit to adventurers Elisheba.”“Nonetheless, this is still odd, this isn’t an old man who’s losing his touch, he feels demoralized Wil.” she says with worry in her voice“I don’t need some emotion magic to figure out that the old man drinking before noon is depressed Elisheba. C’mon, this helps everyone involved and it’s not like he can’t get drunk by himself.”She lets go of your ear “Lord almighty… Please just don’t get him something too strong okay?”“Fiiiiiiine.” You roll your eyesThinking about it, you only have 50 bronze coins left, so it’s not like you can buy anything strong right? Wait how much does beer cost anyway? Maybe you should’ve brought Elisheba with you and this would be easier to figure out.You decided to just ask the barkeep to bring you 2 low alcohol beers and have him 20 bronze coins, you hope that was the right amount as you leave the bar.“Hey old timer” You lift up the mug “Brought you somethin somethin.”Gordy gives you a toothy grin as he accepts the beer though his face quickly turns sour when he tastes it “Bit weak don’t ya think?” he says“Just take the free beer before I change my mind” Elisheba stares at you and Gordy and you just give her a thumbs upCont.

The place is fulla fauna and animals just ripe for huntin, plus there’s a river that has the sweetest fish you can imagine.” He takes a sip “You worried that bear is gonna wreck that paradise?” you ask“I’m worried he’s gonna murder everyone in town.” Gordy raises his voice a bit “The forest has its fair share of critters that make it dangerous enough but that fuckin bear makes it unihabitable, he’s gonna fuckin move on to Kettlewell I just know it.”He starts going off before you could ask something else “People are turnin up dead cause of that fuckin bear. We’re already up to 4 and everyone still got the nerve to call it a workplace accident. The 1st one was enough for me to go out and kill whatever did that but... That bear saw me before I saw it. Only reason I survived was cause it charged right through some trees trying to get to me. That dumbass bear thought he could get me but I survived” He starts laughing as he says that“Everyone thought I was exaggeratin, no one even gives me the fuckin time of day to go out and see what that thing can do, guess the old drunk isn’t worth hearin out huh? I went back tryna kill fucker a few times but it can’t die. I had enough, I ain’t waiting until that thing guts 20 more people until everyone starts hearin me out, I’m paying whatever I can to see that sucker die and it’ll be worth it” Gordy finally stops and takes a breather“Goddamn...” you say under your breath. No wonder he looks depressed, he feels like he’s the only one that can do anything right now. You take a sip of your beerCont.
>>3867943“Hey old man… You know where that thing usually stays?” you say“Hmm..? It’s been like 3 days since I last went alookin but… Usually you can find it wherever there’s alotta animals, there are a few goblins that live in that forest too and it’s not really picky on what it eats. Sometimes it doesn’t eat, it just likes killin. Oh and if you see some trees torn out and ripped apart, that’s usually it’s doin” Gordy says“Alrighty then..” You set your beer down “Save that beer for me, I’m killing that bear” you stop for a moment before pointing at Elisheba “Well… She’s killing that bear, I’ll just bravely watch from the sidelines and tell you how it died”Gordy chuckles “Welllll good fuckin luck”You and Elisheba head out“So you get all that?” you ask Elisheba “Every word yes.” she answers“You think he’s telling the truth?” you ask again“I really hope so.” she respondsYou finally arrive at Kettlewell forest, surprisingly short walk, but it’s time to get to business. Those things have a good nose.”You shrug “I’m still covered in Goblin blood from yesterday, I think I'll be fine, not too sure about you though, hope they don’t notice you.”Elisheba relents “Well, if you want to chance it, let’s go.” You and Elisheba find 3 Goblins forging. You keep your distance and observe them, waiting to see what happens. Eventually they take the handful of nuts and berries they found and leave.“Where do you think they’re going?” you ask“Home, I’m starting to sense more of these things in that general direction, guess their job is to get food.” Elisheba says “You really think we’re finding anything other than Goblins out there?”“Only one way to find out.” you quietly follow the goblins and Elisheba followsThe Goblins finally arrive at their nest, it’s a surprisingly nicely put together camp. You didn’t think vermin would be capable of this, maybe they’re smarter than you think? Thought for another time, you and Elisheba camp out near some trees and wait it out.The 3 hours were uneventful, you were starting to doubt Gordy a bit though that might be because you haven’t eaten all day. But at the end of the 4th hour…The goblins started shrieking and screeching, did they finally notice you and Elisheba? “Fuck...” you say quietly “We should’ve moved around instead of stay in this one place.”“Elisheba, let’s g-” as you turn to her, she’s panting and rubbing her temple trying to calm down, she looks like she’s about to screamYou freak out a bit and try to comfort her, “Calm down, let’s just leave and try to find some-”Before you could finish, you begin hearing some trees in the distance snap and fall over. Get ahold of yourself, it’s gonna be here real soon, we have to get ready.” She starts coming back to it “Wil, you don’t get it, that thin-”Before she could finish, you hear something wailing and crunching right behind you. It’s already here. Before either of you could understand what was happening, a tree starts falling right towards the two of you. Out of instinct, you pushed Elisheba away as hard and tried dodging the falling tree. Sadly, you weren’t quick enough and it falls right on your forearm. You scream in pain.“WIL!” Elisheba immediately lifts the tree off and ignores the monster that made it fall “ARE YOU OKAY!? IS IT BROKEN!?”You start yelling “DON’T FUCKING FOCUS ON ME ELISHEBA, THE BEAR, KILL FOCUS ON THE FUCKING BEAR” you point to the beast that knocked over the tree. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, Gordy was right, the thing was massive. It looked like its spine was growing outside its body, it was going hairless and was exposing some grey flesh. Is that its muscle?Whatever it is, it was slaughtering the Goblins. There were about 3 dozen the last time you counted, it killed 20 of them in the span of a few seconds. You grab your bleeding arm, “Elisheba, go right now and use Forkfu on it while its busy and pray it didn’t notice us yet.”Elisheba looks at you with worry before nodding. Guess that gray muscle isn’t just for show.It lets go of whatever poor Goblin it had in its jaw and turns its attention to Elisheba. It lunges. Smart move, that bear is slowing down from the first attack, if she gets it on its right leg, then it’ll be limping for the rest of the fight. She avoided the attack but something happened. The moment she did, the bear hurled itself to its right side and crashed into Elisheba. It sent her flying right through some trees. Did that bear anticipate her?She stood up and spat out some blood. She’s more durable than she looks but that definitely hurt her. Is she gonna be able to win? Can she even survive this? You feel like stepping in already but it's too early to take any of these risks. You couldn’t have done much even without the bloody and broken arm, you just have to faith that she can protect herself. The bear starts up again, its slamming and clawing the ground with its paws. >>3869456You start making Palisades from the trees around you. That bear has no problem running through any tree in its way, so why don’t them sharpen them a bit and see if he’s still game? The design is quickly made, you just hope you can make them fast enough to actually do some damage and that these could actually harm that giant bear. You hope that Elisheba can last long enough.Your limited to one arm but it should be enough. You grab on to whatever tree is in front of you and start breaking them down and turning them into something new. The design is simple enough that it only takes a few seconds to place and sharpen the wooden stakes. An added bonus that you don’t have to heat them up at all. Elisheba in the meantime is dodging the bear’s attacks, she somehow gained some footing even after that nasty wound. The bleeding seems to have slowed down and you’re really hoping that's a good sign. She looks back at you for a second, enough to understand what you’re planning. She continues playing it safe and tries to stall until you finish. 5 minutes passed. Elisheba is slowing down and that bear is getting dangerously close. In the meantime, you’ve already surrounded the two with a maze of Palisades. Guess you really work well under pressure.“ELISHEBA!” you shout. “IT’S DONE, GET OUT OF THERE NOW!”She nods and leaps towards you, avoiding the wooden stakes planted all across the forest. The bear didn’t have enough brains to do the same and chased after Elisheba without trying to avoid any of the Palisades. It worked perfect. Its body might be too tough to die from some sharpened wood but its not indestructible. The Palisades were strong enough to pierce through parts of its neck and front legs. That was enough to make it topple into another set Palisades. It’s not dead yet, but it’s definitely in pain now.Elisheba reaches you and takes a breather. you put your hand on Elisheba’s shoulder “You think you can still fight?” you ask“Yeah… The cut isn’t that deep and I didn’t lose that much blood” she says panting“Keep your distance, those Palisades can mean the death of you if he launches you into one of them. Use Forkfu’s reach to your advantage, it might be the only thing that could actually hit an artery.” you sayShe takes a deep breath “Yeah… thank you… you really helped me out.”“Thank me when that thing is dead, we’re still not done yet.”Elisheba twirls her trident and runs at the bear once more. >>3869607She keeps her distance and strikes behind the wall of wooden stakes. This is the smartest thing she can do. Whenever the bear gets close or thinks about ramming through the barricade, she hops behind another set of Palisades. Slowly but surely, she’s wearing it down, jabbing and piercing though it little by little. Most of the hits aren’t deep enough for a killing blow but it’s going to bleed out if this continues.Things turned however. After some time, the bear stopped chasing after Elisheba and just stood there. It lifted itself up on 2 legs stared at Elisheba. It opened its mouth and began wailing, wailing loud enough that you felt like the people at Kettlewell could hear it. It was loud enough to disorient you and force you to cover your own ears. You aren’t even that close to it. If that’s true for you then… “Holy shit… ELISHEBA, GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE RIGHT NOW” you scream as loud as you possibly could, trying to drown out the bear’s screech but it wasn’t enough.Elisheba is covering her ears and is essentially paralyzed. That bear got what it wanted. It charged right through the barricade while she was immobilized and got a direct hit on her. She still held on to Forkfu as she was launched right onto one of the wooden spikes, it went right through her stomach.Cont.

You place your hand her wound “If you think I’m letting you die like this, you’ve really lost it.” you start breaking the wooden spike apart while cauterize the flesh. She tightens her grip on you and tries to stop herself from screaming, this is the best you can do for her. You feel ashamed. You should’ve been able to do more, you should’ve made a better weapon, you should’ve been smarter. You don’t want her to die.The bear is gonna be here soon. She’s finally off the spike and you managed to stop the bleeding but she’s in no condition to fight now. She’s already trying to take up Forkfu and fight that thing again. Is it too late to run?The bear is getting closer. You look back at her. She’s still determined to fight that thing, even if it kills her. You close your eyes for a second. “Hey.” you finally speak again “I’m about to do something way above my paygrade. So, thanks for wearing down that bear up for me.”She’s confused “Wilhem, what are yo-”The bear is finally here. Dark souls edition: Prepare to Die.
>>3871083You aren’t getting back up if it hits you like it hit Elisheba. You armor is too weak to handle a blow and you doubt Lagun can make a worthwhile injury. Your left arm is still injured from that tree though you feel like you’ll be forced to use it and you’ve got an axe, some Goblin bones and Goblin skin in storage. Well… Only one thing you can think to do.You use Lagun to pole vault on top of the bear. A moment too early and you’ll be dead, a moment too soon and you’ll only buy yourself a few more seconds to live. You landed on top of it and held on to its neck. You fight through the pain of having to use your injured arm.“I FUCKING GOT YOU YOU STUPID FUCKING BEAR” you screamWhat’s the plan now? If you have to die, you’re gonna make it hurt for the bear. You use the blood from your injured left arm and make a shiv. You make sure the metal is still scorching. You jam the weapon as hard as you can into the bears right eye. Its body might be tough but it’s eyes are still eyes. It goes through completely. It screeches in pain. You feel like your ears might burst but you’re simply too far in to give up now so you endure. The bear is half blinded and in immense pain, it keeps ramming into the Palisades you have set up, continuously injuring and bloodying itself. The sharpnel nicks and scratches you but you have to hold on.The bear is slowing down but you won’t let this end. You break down the axe in storage and make more shives and you stab at whatever you can. Its nose, its ears, its eye, whatever you can get your hands on. It only made it angrier, it kept trying to shake you, it kept slamming itself into the barricade but you refuse to let go. You aren’t quite sure how your still alive right now.You finally destroyed its left eye, punctured its ears, and mutilated its nose. It has no way of discerning where anything is. The bear had enough. It slammed itself into the ground as hard as it could and tried rolling you off. You finally let go. You couldn’t really feel anything after that. Are you in pain? how much blood did you lose? Is anything broken? You weren’t sure. But you did your best, and that’s what matters.Cont.
>>3871392You were able to move enough to see the bear. It's bloodied, bruised and limping. You couldn’t help but laugh that the most damage done to that bear was done by themselves. The bear stands over you. Still has enough energy to stand on 2 legs and still knows where it threw you off. Guess it is kinda smart. Well, at least you made it hurt.It slams itself aiming for you. You hear a crunch. You look up and see Elisheba is standing over you, you notice that she has Forkfu pointed at something. You finally see it. Forkfu ripped through that bear’s throat. “I told you… I can still do it...” Elisheba says panting. She just aimed for its throat the moment it tried crushing you to death. It basically skewered itself. How she had the strength to stand, much less hold on to a 2 ton beast after what she's been through, you aren’t too sure. You’re never gonna underestimate her again. The bears body finally goes limp and blood gushes out everywhere. She pushes it off to the side and you stare at its lifeless body. You won. We won. A few dozen trees are knocked over, there are still some Palisades set up, few weapons lying around, including Forkfu and Lagun and a good quarter of the field is covered in blood and bodies. It looked like a war went on here. Its nostalgic. You start laughing again. Louder and louder by the second. It was really funny. Everything about this was really funny.Elisheba gets concerned “Are you alright? What are you laughing about?”You quiet down a bit “Ah. I’ll tell you later, but I don’t think you’ll get it. It’s just funny” you keep chuckling until you finally dozed off. Elisheba didn’t want you to fall asleep but your eyes just felt too heavy. You hope she doesn’t get mad at you for that.Cont.
>>3871965You finally wake up in a bed in some little shack. Where are you? You step outside and see a familiar red sky surrounding that incomprehensible sphere in the sky. A plethora of weaponry, mostly swords, encompass the empty trek of land. You could swear you see fire at the end of the horizon. Are you back home? Well, if you’re really back home, then the old man shouldn’t be too far off. You start walking aimlessly. It feels like hours have passed. You must’ve passed 1000s of weapons by now. None of them look the same of course, definitely the old man’s work. You finally hear a clank in the distance. There he is. You run towards the sound and find the old geezer in his workshop hammering away at whatever piece of metal he got his hands on. You can already tell that he’s gonna chuck this one away too. At least the sparks are nice.“Gramps.” you say to himHe doesn’t stop working but he answers you “What? What’s wrong?”“Nothing. You used to be really sad when you were little and always got terrified when Gramps’s worked in front of you. You don’t really remember why. Maybe it was the fire. Gramps felt bad so he only worked when you were asleep so you wouldn’t be so scared. Eventually you got over it, you started watching him work and you wanted to try it yourself. You finally make it to the anvil, the metal is still red. You place your hand on it and start analyzing it. Wait… What is this? You turn to the old man “Gramps, what kind of metal have you been working on right now?”“Something special.” he answers vaguelyOf course that fucker isn’t gonna be specific. But still, this thing isn’t normal. Its absurdly heavy for something so small. It's too tough for you to casually melt or break down. It’s not dirty or even dented. It’s powerful. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. This is one of a kind. How did Gramps even heat this thing up? Where did he even find it?“Gramps, have you really lost your touch? Or are you just fucking with me right now?” you say“Mind your manners boy, I’m being nice here. Don’t make me regret it” he snaps back You look down for a second “Why are you doing this? Am I dead or something? You finally kick the bucket?”“Eh, not yet, but give it some time.” he says “And it wasn’t like I was gonna make something worthwhile with that metal. At least if you did something with it, I’d be content.”You felt a little happy when he said that, but it quickly turned into regret “I’m sorry I left Grandad. I’ve missed you.”“You’re a man Wilhem, there’s nothing to be sorry about. Now quit chattering and start working” he ordersYou shake your head “Rude as ever” but you listened and started working. You felt a bit old fashioned today and used a hammer to try and shape the metal. Cont.
>>3872181For the longest time, you didn’t understand why Gramps would work all day everyday doing this, he didn’t even like most of the things he made. He’d just throw it as hard as he could because they were trash to him but not trash enough that he wanted to scrap it. You’d think he’s a bit of a softy under that iron heart of his. You worked and learned from him for years and still couldn’t figure out what the appeal was. He would never tell you why either. You thought he’d take that secret to the graveYou got it one day though. You don’t understand how you didn’t notice it years before but you finally got it. It was the sparks. Every time he slammed that hammer onto that heated metal, he would always stare for a split second. You could almost feel like he was counting them all, it was a weird sense of wonder. He must’ve always been amazed and enchanted by it. Well, that last part is just you guessing, because that part is definitely true for you.You fell in love with smithing when you understood why Gramps did it all day. You wanted to make more, so at the very least you can make those sparks again. Eventually the fire stopped being so hot, eventually you stopped needing so many tools, eventually you weren’t just limited to metal. Why did you start in the first place again? It felt like a whole day past. You were working on that metal for all that time and still wouldn’t budge. You chuckle “Is this thing actually unbreakable? Guess I’m not good enough”“You’ll learn.” he points to your chest “Remember, you don’t just need some solid to make good work alright?”**You feel strange. You feel like you got something. You feel inspired.**“See you around kid” he pushes you and you start falling. When did the ground disappear? You finally wake up panting. You’re bandaged up and resting on a bed. Gordy is sitting right across from you chugging away at some liquor. “Well well, look who’s finally up?”You touch your chest and notice you’re shirtless. You freak out “WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY CLOTHES? WHERE THE FUCK IS MY ARMOR?”“Easy there bud. Everythin ya had was torn up real good. Got you something else to wear” Gordy tosses you some clothesYou get up and quickly dress yourself. “So… did anyone else see me?”“No, just me and some doctors, you got chewed up real good.” he says taking a sip.You thank the lord that Elisheba didn’t see you. You start calming down.“So… how did you get those burn marks all across that body of yours..? Did the bear do that? Didn’t think it could breathe fire.” Gordy chuckles “How about you mind your own fucking buisness you goddamn drunk.”“Jeez… Sore spot I guess. My bad.” Gordy saysLooks like you’re alive and in Kettlewell. What happened? What should you do first? > 1. Find Elisheba> 2. Ask what happened while you were passed out> 3. Tell Gordy what happened during the quest> 4. Other (write-in)
>>3872186> 1. Find ElishebaFind the teammate who saved our ass
>>3872186“Where’s Elisheba?” you ask Gordy“Who?” he says“The redhead that probably carried me here” you say“Oh her, ya she’s in the other room across the hall. She ended up in worse shape than you.”Your eyes widen “What? How? She carried me here, I couldn’t even sit up by myself.”“Yeah, she acted a lil odd when she got here. She just dropped you off and left, something about finishing the job. She was pretty banged up so we tried to stop her but she wouldn’t listen. She came back but she looked like she was gonna die.”You bolt it to her room after you hear this. When you find her, you see that she’s awake and paging through a book “Oh!” she finally notices you and puts her book down “You’re finally awake!”“Oh thank god…” you say in relief “You’re alright.’“Yeah why wouldn’t I be?” she asks in confusion “Gordy said you went back to the forest and came back worse for ware, thought you’d look worse.” you say“I’m much tougher than that Wil. You don’t have to worry” she says“What were you even doing there anyway? You ripped that bear’s neck open.” you say“I was making sure it wouldn’t get back up.” she saysYou start getting confused “What..?”“You know how I was getting a migraine right when we first saw that thing? Yeah, that thing wasn’t normal at all, it was corrupted.” she says“What? What does that even mean?” you say“Guess you really don’t know enough huh? So you know dungeons are a bit recent yeah?” she says“Yeah they popped up like 3 decades ago.” you say“Well, dungeons are one of the great blessings of the world. You can run a town with the type of loot that’s in a small dungeon and a lot of them do. Partly why Yorktown as built around its dungeon, it runs off that thing.” she explains“Where are you going with this?” you say“There’s an equivalent exchange for this sort of thing Wil. You can’t just have a light with no shadow. So for every blessing that a dungeon brings, a curse follows. Depending on the size of the dungeon, the curse will be that much stronger” she says“What are you saying?” you say“I’m saying that the bear was one of those curses” she concludesCont.
>>3872477“What? That’s good right? That thing must’ve come from the Yorktown Dungeon so we’re in the clear and did a public serve.”“I wish but no.” she shuts you down, “This isn’t from Yorktown. I know the curse, it’s a calamity that spawned from one of the Grand Dungeons.”“Okay you’re losing me again.” you sayShe sighs “Grand Dungeons are the most bountiful and expansive Dungeons of them all and a natural wonder of the world. The loot in there is enough to keep an entire country running on its own. The type of curse a Grand Dungeon brings however, can only be described as a calamity that could wipe us all out.”“So you know what Grand Dungeon brought that bear?” you askShe nods, “There’s one near the capital, the dungeon is a bottomless pit full of treasure that could set you for life if you’re smart. The calamity it brought wasn’t worth it though, its something called Abyss Corruption. I’m not too sure about the details, but if you stay in the dungeon for too long, then you’ll become turn into something demonic and twisted.”“I don’t understand the problem Elisheba.” you say“It’s not possible, it’d take 2 week to get to the capital, there’s no way that bear got here on its own.” she says“Oh…” you finally understand. Something else turned that bear into that and you’re afraid to find out what.“That bear isn’t completely finished, I know it isn’t, I’m going back and finishing the job after I heal up, I only went back to buy us some more time to heal.” she saysThings are getting pretty serious. This really is a strange world. You pull up a chair and sit down. “Enough of that, rest up and heal. We were gonna go back anyway, I left Forkfu and Lagun back there so that’s reason enough. Plus I am not letting that bear corpse rot. That thing is turning into a nice set of armor for the both of us.”She laughs a bit “Sounds like a plan.”You were about to ask her a few more things before Gordy waddles on inside. “Aye, I almost forgot, I do owe ya a drink.” he tells you“Sounds pretty nice right about now but we can do that later, I’m gonna rest up with Elisheba.” you say“What she yer girlfriend or somethin?”You…> 1. Just ignore him and act like he didn’t say anything> 2. Tell him to stop teasing > 3. Tell him that you’re working on it
>>3872479> 2. Tell him to stop teasing That conversation flow with Elisheba was a bit off, at least from our way of talking and responding.
>>3872479>Deflect that it doesn't sound like a bad idea>Counter that maybe we should start charging more for this bear business
>>3872492Yeah i was trying to make it sound like a real conversation and saying the lines out loud, guess i gotta learn how to write better
>>3872502Yeah, i this one sounds fun, we're doing this one. We are also rolling for it, so roll me a 1d100DC 30, DC 70
Rolled 23 (1d100)>>3872567
Rolled 91 (1d100)>>3872567Did you want two rolls in one?
>>38725781 roll, 2 different DCs
Rolled 28 (1d100)>>3872567 Here's the 1
>>3872574>>3872578>>3872587well, that was a massive success, writing now
Rolled 20 (1d100)>>3872578Decent roll, too bad it wasn't for something like killing a giant bear.>>3872586Nother one for good measure.
>>3872479“Nope, she is not” you stand up from your chair “But that doesn’t sound like a bad idea at all Gordy, I do like her quite a bit” you say“Excuse me what?” Elisheba starts blushingYou cross your arms “Though I gotta say Gordy, it’s a little upsetting that you almost got us killed” “Hey I didn’t do shit, yer the one that took the quest and that bear is the one that hurt ya both.” Gordy counters“Right you are, and here we are, in a hospital after we both nearly died trying to kill a bear that would’ve come after Kettlewell if we didn’t stop it. Weren’t you worried that it was gonna hurt more innocent people Gordy? Well we’re innocent and looking pretty hurt right about now. Right Eli?”She looks around a bit confused before answering “Y-yeah.”“And if I’m being quite honest with the both of you right now, I’m a little upset that my Eli almost died just so we could put food on the table and find a nice bed to sleep in.” Elisheba turns red when you say this and Gordy starts stuttering trying to figure a proper response before relenting “F-fine. I get it. What do ya want?” “We were gonna pay the hospital bills weren’t we?” you ask him“With the money from the quest ya.” he says“Yeah, that’s a separate cost now. All on you” you tell him“Fine, fair is fair I guess.” he agrees“Also, I think we deserve an extra… “ wait how much is a fair amount of money again? Goddamn it, I should’ve asked Elisheba before I started doing this. “20… silver… coins..?” you carefully say “20!? UGH… Fine….” Gordy capitulates “But yer showing me that bear or ya ain’t getting jackshit.” You shrug “Fair is fair, don’t go back on your word Gordy” “I am a man of my word kid. Just let me know when you two are healed up.” Gordy leaves the room “Thank you very much.” you casually salute him as he leavesYou fall back on your chair as you sigh in relief “Holy shit…. I can’t believe that worked.” you start laughing“What just happened?” Elisheba says in disbelief“I bartered and lied. Well half lied. Quarter lied.” you overcorrect yourself She tries to process what had happened before speaking “Did you really just say “My Eli”?'' “I WAS PLAYING A PART. Please don’t hold that against me…” you sayShe starts laughing and you look away to hide your embarrassment. Totally worth it though. You got paid a hefty sum and all you needed to do was get mauled by a bear and be a little too honest in front of Elisheba. Easiest money you’ve ever made.Pretty impressive that not even a week has passed and you’ve already had a near death experience. You doubt things are gonna get any easier but for some reason you’re fine with it, you’re actually looking forward to the future.>>End of Blacksmith Quest #1
Alright, actually finished my first quest. That was actually really fun, glad I took a chance and tried it. What are your thoughts on the quest as of now? What did you like? What did you hate? I'm probably gonna run it again Friday, might actually make some rules and organize everything a bit. Thank you to everyone that participated and read through
>>3872708I'm jaded as fuck from isekai trash, so I'm not amused with currency shenanigans without having the choice to deal with it.dialogue could be better, but you can say that about any writer. It's all about keeping at it.You've seen the results of d100 bo3. qtg mostly memes about these, but there IS a grain of truth to it. Anything else is a LOT more work to fiddle with, so don't feel too pressured to change it.Not sure if I'll be free, but if I see it I'll be there.
>>3872720yeah the currency thing is a bit of a joke. I wanna make Wilhem incompetent with literally anything that doesn't have to do with making weapons and his brand of magic, but I'll keep it in mind to actually have him ask for help when it comes to dealing with money, should be easy enough.Yeah totally agree with you there, doing this quest is my way of improving my writing, It's great practice and a lot of fun so I'm hoping to keep it going for a while.
>>3872708Its fun enough, I'd play again. I'd like to be able to know more about the world so we can "have a mental footing of our place in it" so to speak. So some lore or world building is in order. Doesn't have to be fancy, it can be generic so long as its there, and it can give you experience for future quests and writing when you want to world build so you can look back and think "oh it would have been totally awesome if I did that or put that in there instead of this" for example.>>3872720 is right with the dialogue, but I think that can we worked out over time. I'm not a godo writer, but the last two interactions with Eli felt like we were shooting out everything in our mind because we want to get to the last thing we want to say, barely waiting for her to finish talking. It was short and felt like we were impatient. And yeah, the dice were pretty brutal, ought to make plans for inevitable failure and stuff. Including degrees of failure and success, but things are fine for now, I like it being simple because it makes it easier to get into.>>3872745Well he can count his toes and how many potatoes, yeah?melt the bronze money into armor. I'm going to obsess over this. This will be like the old Runescape days of smithing and mining for days on end just to make a few hundred bars of metal to make a bunch of items to get your smithing level up so eventually you can smith some goddam body plate!
>>3872761The moment they figure out it comes from currency, some fairly high authorities will be very upset.
>>3872761I really don't wanna bog shit down with world building and lore. I get bored and confused when i get incomprehensible terms thrown at me so i just mention it when its applicable. Though you are right about sprinkling in random bits of lore for future use, i'll keep that in mind.Yeah the writing in general needs to be worked on, hope i can substantially improves as i go on.I promise you, i will absolutely put stuff in about melting down the currency next time, the plan for the next episode of the quest is to rest, spend some cash and make some sweet gear so they don't get their shit kicked in like this time.
>>3872777Ha, doubtful. We aren't clipping coins or shaking em in a bag all day. We can add some alloys or other metals to make it even harder if not impossible to trace.Unless they put magic into every single coin, which is like putting a unique RIDF chip into every penny in existence which would bankrupt all the worlds kingdoms several times over, it's unlikely we get caught unless someone blabs or we show off to much.People actually did this in the past, where they melted precious metal coins into other things all the time, and things like golden cups and jewelry into coins.>>3872790Doesn't have to be extensive world building, just general generic stuff like ,where we are from, what land we are in, is it ruled by a king or prime minster, etc. maybe throw up a picture or two you like to give the setting a visual environment, and vola! Done!
>>3872799Yeah, I'm just saying I'll pass on making a show of it.
>>3872799I actually have a few important in lore things i have in mind but i couldn't think of a way to add them in for this episode. A few of them are definitely a bit of a long game sorta thing so i'll make sure to give a few options to learn more about the world next time around.
>>3872807Good enough for me.
