Previously on Saiyan Conqueror Quest:

After being captured by the Time Patrol, breaking from both their prison and the Abyss, Karn met with a fusion warrior by the name of Gotenks. After fighting with the fused boys for awhile, Trunks sent out a citywide alert for Karn, forcing him to flee the arena via Instant Transmission. With guidance from an old friend Karn made it to the Time Nest, only to once more come face-to-face with Trunks. After convincing him his ‘master’ wasn’t as good as he believed her to be, Towa pulled Karn from the world of the Time Patrol back to her lab. But all was not well, as Karn returned covered in the Abyss. Towa took Karn to an ancient portal to the mysterious Abyss, only for Karn to get pulled in by a pale arm. And as we rejoin Karn, you have just found that arm’s owner.

“One of us.” the pale hooded being says, floating towards you slowly with a purple blade of some sort of energy drawn in one left hand. But the sword-wielding skeletal warrior, upon seeing the horrific pale creature, ignores you completely. It’s entirely focused on the winged being, and without hesitation attacks. It leaps towards the creature, heavy blade held in both hands and tries to bisect the winged form. But it’s attack is too slow, the winged form narrowly slipping past the heavy sword and decapitating the skeletal form. It’s body and head fall separately, the winged form turning back to you and pointing with it’s sword made of that strange purple energy. Whatever this being is, it seems to be after you. “One. Of. Us.”

“What are you?” you mutter to yourself, taking your stance as the creature drifts closer. You try to feel out for it’s ki, but can’t sense anything from the pale shade. You have no idea how strong this thing really is, but seeing how easily it dodged the skeletal warrior’s blade, you probably shouldn’t underestimate it.

“One of us.” it replies again in the exact same tone, still floating towards you. That wasn’t creepy or anything.
“Enough of this!” you say angrily, gathering your ki and transforming. “RRRAAAAAAAA!!”

Your power explodes to several dozen times your base, the green light of your powerful mutated Super Saiyan aura radiating out from you. Were this a normal cave, you’d be able to see everything around you; but as this is at least a part of the Abyss your light only reaches out about two dozen feet from you. The creature, however, seems completely unphased by your display, still floating towards you with its blade drawn.

“Stop.” you order it, ki gathering in your fingertip as you point it at the being. “Don’t come any closer. What do you want?”
“One of us.” it says again, still not slowing down. And you don’t hesitate any further, firing square at the creature’s chest. But your attack doesn’t connect, the creature vanishing just before your attack would’ve hit. The beam fades off into the darkness, your head on a swivel as you look around for the creature to reappear.
“Shit, where’d you go?” you mutter, head turning back and forth as you strain your senses to try and find it before it can ambush you. After a half-dozen tense seconds you finally find it. It had appeared behind you, and you see it has a large, orb held aloft. It looks like an eclipse, dark orb ringed by fire. Before you can say anything else, the orb fires three large fireballs down at you in rapid succession. Wasting no time and leaping aside, the first slams down into the ground where you were just standing and explodes. But you don’t stop, circling the creature to maintain distance as you dodge the fiery projectiles.

But you’re not alone in fighting that thing, at least for the moment. As you evade the fireballs, another of the skeletal warriors appears, dropping down from the darkness and plunging it’s sword at the winged being. The pale creature somehow senses it coming, twisting and meeting it blade-to-blade. The skeletal warrior tries to grab it with it’s glowing left hand, but the pale being is having none of that. With an unholy sound it unleashes a flash of light, a giant spear of that same energy impaling the skeletal warrior and sending it flying off into the darkness. While it was distracted you gathered your ki into your fingertips, then fired a Death Slash at its back. Caught completely unawares, your attack connects, slashing deep into it’s back. The beast screams in agony, pure light pouring from the wound and blinding you.

“Ah, dammit!” you shout as you’re blinded, shielding your eyes with your left arm for a moment until the light vanishes. When the light fades, you open your eyes to see that, once more, it has vanished.

As far as you can tell, that pale creature seems to be long gone. But you saw how easily it could vanish and reappear, that thing could come from anywhere. So you hold still, straining your every sense to try and find where that thing went to. After another few moments you hear something from the darkness.

“HAAAA!!” you shout, firing another Death Slash into the dark. You don’t see what it hits, but you hear your blade of ki cut through something. It doesn’t scream, whatever you hit, you just hear two separate thumps. You got something, but highly doubt it was the pale creature. Suddenly, to your right from whatever you hit, a white ring appears up in the air. And without hesitation you fire another Death Beam right at the center of the circle. And to your surprise your attack pierces the circle, vanishing instead of passing through. “Huh? Wha-?”

But your question is interrupted, as suddenly a beam pierces straight through the darkness, punching through you from behind.

“Grah?!” you cry out, the shock making you drop your attack. As your beam ends, so does this one, you dropping down to a knee and clutching your left shoulder with your right hand. Looking back, you see another white circle, hovering level with you. Looking back and forth between the two circles, you realize just how easily this damned creature played you. But two can play this game. “Alright, asshole. My tur-huh?

You hadn’t seen it at first, but now only a few feet away you see a small dark projectile. The orb of dark is flying right at you, leaving you only an instant to act. You leap back, but it’s too little, too late. The orb hits the ground, exploding in a massive burst.

“SHIT!!” you shout, sent tumbling through the air until you crash back-first into something solid. You were sent into a wall, it crumbling upon impact and sending you through and to the ground. You land with enough force that you’re left rolling, finally sliding to a stop. Your left arm slips from the ledge you’re on, splashing into what feels like ice-cold water. You shake your head to clear the shock from the blast away, pushing yourself back up to your feet and turning back towards where you’d come from. At least where you thought it was, looking around you find that you can’t see where you’d come from.

“Dammit.” you mutter, clutching your left shoulder with your right hand. Looking down, your left hand is coated in something dark up to the elbow, where your arm was in the mystery liquid, but there’s not much you can do about it now. You hadn’t known it could use portals to redirect your own attacks, and paid the price. Whatever this thing is, it’s clearly smarter than you’d originally thought.

Whatever that creature is, it is clearly far more adapted to hunting down here than you are. Without being able to sense any ki from the creature you’re left in the dark, both figuratively and literally. Your aura’s light doesn’t illuminate more than a few yards around you either, limiting your sight-based reactions to mere instants. And against such a tricky foe, continuing to fight as you had been would just get you hurt more. You need a new plan, and quick.

“Your eyes, deceive you, they can.” the wizened Guardian’s advice coming to mind. “Trust them, do not.”
“Maybe...” you mutter, thinking furiously. His advice was for him teaching you to sense ki, but it seems like it just may work here. So you sigh out, reverting back to your base form as you shut your eyes.

You focus on your breathing, it evening out as you remain standing in place. Nothing immediately rushes out from the darkness, your meditative breathing becoming quieter and quieter as the seconds pass. In through the nose, out of the mouth, over and over as you relax. After the first minute or so, you begin hearing noises coming from the darkness around you. The ambient sounds don’t come from nearby, instead sounding very far-off.

Until you hear the sound of something taking furtive steps nearby; whatever it is, it is clearly trying to remain quiet. As you remain calm and still, you find your awareness slowly spreading outward from your body. At first your awareness is narrow, mere feet around you. But as you remain still, more and more of this dark world becomes perceptible. And the most alarming revelation is that you’re not alone. As your awareness grows, you realize that you’re surrounded by more of those skeletal warriors. But they aren’t attacking you, simply standing there. You hear one’s armor clank here, another shuffle their feet there, but for whatever reason they’re not attacking.

“They don’t like t-.” a voice says from right behind you, surprising you so badly you attack.
“HAAAA!!” you shout in surprise, spinning and firing a Death Slash at the voice. Your attack illuminates a serpentine face for just a moment, your blade slicing shallowly into it’s long neck before vanishing. But your attack doesn’t go unnoticed, you hearing the dozen or so skeletal forms all rushing towards you. Shit, this is-!
“Be still!” the serpent commands, the warriors surrounding you all stopping instantly. “Forgive me for startling you. I am the Primordial Serpent, Darkstalker Kaathe. Tell me, mortal: you don’t belong, so why are you here? Have you come for the other outsider? Or have you come seeking the legendary art of Lifedrain?”

“Uhh, well, I was dragged here.” you say, confused by this being’s cordiality after being attacked. But at least the skeletal creatures followed its orders, none coming closer to you and the giant serpent. “And, sorry for attacking you.”
“Do not worry yourself about such trivial things.” the serpent says. “I’m far more resilient than you mortal beings. But, more importantly, you say you were dragged here? By what, pray tell? I can see the mark of the Abyss upon you, but nothing awake here in the Dark could have done this.”
“Oh no, that was from before.” you say, trying to explain. “I got this before, but I was dragged down through a portal by that pale, four-armed creature.”
“Ah, the Darklurker.” Kaathe says, you sensing a note of anger from it’s voice. “Yes, that is the being that doesn’t belong. It somehow wandered in here several years ago, and has been relentlessly hunting my knights ever since.”
“Your knights?” you ask, then realize what he means. “You mean those skeletal warriors?”

“Yes, the Darkwraiths. They are loyal warriors, but unfortunately cannot defeat that accursed being of light.” Kaathe says. “It does not belong here. And you say it dragged you here?”
“Yeah. If you know the way out, I’ll gladly go.” you say. “I didn’t mean to end up in here, I just felt pulled to look in. I got this stuff on me, and Towa was trying to find a way to get it off, and then that thing pulled me down here.”
“You wish to remove the Dark you have been touched with?” it asks, you feeling it leaning in and peering close at you. “Hrmmm, this is still recent, yet the Darkness is still pure, almost as if... Very well, I believe I can remove this darkness from you. But there is a condition.”
“Of course there is.” you say, feeling the serpent leaning back away from your chest. “Alright, what do you propose?”

“I propose a trade.” the large serpent says. “If you defeat the Darklurker, and destroy it once and for all, I shall remove the Abyss’s touch from you. What do you say, mortal? Are my terms acceptable to you?”

If learning lifedrain will cause any negative secondary effects, then we don't ask for it. “Add in getting me out of here, and you’ve got yourself a deal.” you say, the creature again “Hrrmmm”ing.
“Very well.” it says, you hearing the knights all moving out deeper into the darkness. “Once the Darklurker is slain, I shall have the Dark removed and then send you on your way out of the Abyss. Now, remain still, and entrust thine flesh to me.”
“Wait, what?” you ask, the large serpent suddenly lunging forward and snatching you up inside it’s mouth. You feel the beast suddenly moving in several directions, and several uncomfortable instants later it spits you back out. You land on your feet, seeing the pale form of the Darklurker fighting a half-dozen of Kaathe’s skeletal Darkwraiths. “Uhh, thanks? I think.”

“The rest is up to you.” Kaathe says, disappearing as you try to shake off being eaten. It’s something that hasn’t happened to you for several years, and you’d not thought it would happen again. You take your mind off that by focusing on observing the Darklurker, watching the pale beast’s fighting style. The winged being cuts down three of the Darkwraiths with two cuts from it’s blade, vanishing as two more tried to attack it from behind. It appears after a few seconds floating dozens of feet in the air, then with an ear-splitting shriek fires a beam of light. The attack cuts down the two skeletal knights easily, the last one leaping into the air and throwing its sword. To your surprise the dark metal of the sword actually damages it, the sword slashing one of it’s left arms before getting embedded in what sounds like a stone wall to your left. But before the Darkwraith can follow up it’s successful attack the Darklurker turns, the beam of light easily splitting it in two as well. In mere moments that thing cut down a half-dozen of the skeletal knights, just how many has it killed over the years? But you can’t ponder long, it once more turning to face you.

“One of... No...” it says, floating back down level to you. You’re maybe ten yards apart, the creature the only thing in the room you can see clearly besides the corpses right by its feet. The Darklurker seems to no longer want to talk, immediately firing a lance of light at you. Leaping to the left, you narrowly dodge the piercing spear, and-

But your foe is already moving, hovering higher with another orb above it’s head and firing a trio of fireballs down at you. But you’re ready, your training with Bane has prepared you for attacks like this. So instead of backing off you keep pressing forward, swatting each of the attacks aside as you relentlessly charge towards your foe. “Is this all you’ve got?!”
“Purge!” it says, conjuring it’s blade once you’re close and swinging. You deflect the sword by swinging your own left-to-right, following it up with a slash deep into it’s left shoulder. Light pours from the wound, the Darklurker unleashing a piercing scream of agony as it vanishes off your sword, reappearing at the edge of your aura’s light. The pale creature’s left arms both hang limp, clutching at the wound with its right hands.

“You’re not getting away!” you shout, dashing in and swinging down towards the Darklurker’s neck. It tries to dodge once more but you’re too quick, blade biting deep into it’s neck and chest. With the raw power behind your swing, you cut it down from it’s left shoulder down deep into it’s chest. “HAAAA!!”

It screams out once more in agony, and tries once more to teleport away. And it vanishes, for just a moment, but unfortunately for the Darklurker it reappears right back in the exact same spot.

“You’re not going anywhe-Shit!!” you shout, leaping back and away as the creature glows bright then explodes. You’d gotten away just in time, the blast’s shockwave knocking you back another foot or so. “Dammit, that was too close.”

But as the bright spots in your vision fade, you see the creature is still there. Damn, just how durable is this thing?

Two versus one, this isn’t good. This isn’t good at all. You can handle one, as you are now you’re strong enough to take it down. But you have no doubts you’d take some serious damage trying to fight both, if you could even win.

“Dammit what do I do now-huh?” you think, a red light suddenly appearing. Looking down you see some sort of script has appeared, and feel almost compelled to touch it. So you don’t hesitate, reaching down and touching the glowing red letters with your left hand. As soon as you touch it, you feel an unfamiliar energy course through your body. The letters disappear, you wondering what just happened. But you don’t have long to think about it, as both Darklurkers fire their light beams. You leap into the air, twisting and flipping around the two beams of energy as both of your opponents try to cut you down. You dodge for what feels like an eternity, until both beams finally stop. You twist back to facing your foes, preparing to go on the offensive, when you a sound you’d never heard before.

You and both Darklurkers turn towards the sound, seeing that same red light coming from where you’d touched it. But instead of words, you see a glowing form rising up from the ground. It looks like a man wielding a sword and shield, both his weapons and his armor all covered in wicked-seeming spikes. Without hesitation he begins rushing without fear at the two Darklurkers, shield up and unrelenting. Huh, so that’s what that weird script does. Now that it’s two on two, you’ve got this!

“I see that you found it, very good.” Kaathe says, his voice suddenly appearing in your head. “His name is Kirk, the Knight of Thorns.”

“I see why he got the name.” you reply telepathically as well, as both the Darklurkers look between you and this ‘Knight Kirk’. You can’t exactly sense his ki, but you can sense something from the knight. You can sense what’s almost like an echo of his ki, or maybe more accurately the last dying embers of a once-roaring flame. “So where’d he come from? I just touched the glowing sign, and then he appeared.”
“Explaining how time works here in the Abyss will take far longer than your curiosity will last.” Kaathe says directly into your mind. “Sufficient to say, the man there before you died long, long ago. All that is left is this echo, a faded memory of the man who once was.”

“Oh, so he’s not alive then.” you say, once more taking your Djem So stance with your Super Ki Blade held overhead. “Having someone who can’t die on my side almost makes this too easy.”
“You should be careful.” Kaathe says, as both Darklurkers fire their lances at Kirk. He blocks the first with his shield, but the force of the attack breaks his guard. Unable to recover in time, Kirk takes the second straight through the chest. He drops down to a knee as the red energy sprays behind him, it looking like blood for a moment before vanishing. “He may not be alive, but a phantom is not immortal. He can only take as much damage as he could in life before his spectral form dissipates.”

“So he’s not indestructible, got it.” you reply, focusing on the two foes before you. After splitting in two, neither seems to have carried the damage over that you’d done, leaving them both in better shape than the one was. Which is something you’ll have to fix, but that leaves you with just one question:

Kirk rises back up to his feet, continuing his relentless charge towards the Darklurkers. One flies up into the air as the other activates it’s blade, rushing towards the knight. You have to hope he can hold his own against one, at least long enough for you to finish off the other one. As your target flies up higher you dispel your Super Ki Blade, leaping into the air as well. The Darklurker sees you coming and fires another lance at you, but you’re too quick. You dodge around the lance, closing in as it draws its blade and once more swings. But this time you’re stronger, catching it by the wrist. The hooded form has no face, yet it’s body language just screams surprise. Then the Darklurker itself screams as you simply crush the bones of it’s arm in your hand.

Both Darklurkers scream in agony as you break the one’s arm, you ignoring their cries as you go for the finisher. With your size and strength advantages the wounded Darklurker can’t get away, you trapping the creature’s four arms up in your two. It tries to disappear, squirming in your grip as you gather your ki.

“This ends, now!” you shout, unleashing your full power. “GRRAAAAAA!!!”

Your ki explodes out from you in all directions, unleashing a torrent of destructive energy. But for the Darklurker trapped in your arms, it isn’t simply blown away. Trapped in your unbreakable grip, the full-force of your Super Explosive Wave smashes into it. You can feel it’s bones breaking, shattering in the face of your overwhelming power. You keep the attack going for a dozen or so seconds before releasing it, ending your attack and dropping the body. The Darklurker doesn’t move, dropping lifelessly down towards the ground. But the second one turns towards you, unleashing an ear-piercing scream. You hold your ears as the sound echoes throughout the darkness, the last Darklurker blasting Kirk away with a blast of its energy and turning to you. One down, and one to go.

The Darklurker fires another lance of energy at you, dodging these almost becoming too easy as you simply sidestep. But it’s not done, once more firing the powerful beam of light. But you’re too quick, dashing under the beam to come up beneath the monster. And before it can adjust it’s aim you attack, leaping up and landing a powerful right fist square in the Darklurker’s gut. Your punch sends it flying back, crashing hard into the far wall. But you’re not done yet! Charging in feet-first you land a crushing kick to it’s chest, smashing it through the wall and into the room beyond. You lose sight of it in the darkness, but hear it smash into another wall. You have to end this now, before it can escape!

“Grrraaaaaa!!” you roar, chasing the Darklurker down. Once more it tries to blast you with it’s energy beam, but this time you’re not able to dodge. You have to block, the beam of light slamming square into your crossed arms. The light burns you, scorching your arms and upper body as it hits you, slowing your charge down. But despite the light scalding your chest even more painfully than your arms, which take the brunt of it. But you don’t slow down, charging straight through the attack and smashing bodily into the Darklurker. You smash it straight through the wall, crashing down into something cold, dark, and wet. The Darkwraith immediately begins thrashing panickedly, trying to get away, but not this time. You duck and let go as it swings, the energy from it’s blade hissing in the dark liquid that reduces it’s sword to little more than a faint light. It swing goes over your head, you retaliating with a crushing blow to the ribs from your left hand. It gurgle-screams, flailing it’s sword wildly, but whatever this dark fluid is seems to be slowing it down. You can end this!

It swings at your head, but instead of dodging you close in, smashing it’s left forearm with your right and knocking it’s blade away from you. Capitalizing on the opening you unleash a flurry of blows, each one smashing into it’s hooded head with tremendous power. Further and further down into the dark you pummel it, until with a final two-handed axe handle you smash it through something solid, the fluid flooding out sucking you down deeper along with your prey. But now, something’s different. You’re not in that cave, not anymore. You know this place.

You look around in confusion, seeing that once more you’re in a seeminngly-infinite expanse of Dark. But that can wait, you’ve got a fight to finish. “Die.” you say simply, smashing your fist through it’s hooded head. The Darklurker cries out in pain, the call fading as it rapidly begins dissolving into a red mist, which disappears in the Dark. You did it. But what’s that? As the Darklurker ceases to exist, you see what appears to be a small flame floating in the darkness. It’s light is dim, and fading quickly. For a moment, you’re tempted to reach out and grab that small spark. But should you?

You should. The tiny flame is fading fast, the darkness sucking all light from it. So you reach out, cupping it in your hands. The flame begins to brighten up a bit, you closing the flame within your hands. Sudden warmth begins pouring into your body from your closed hands, and for just a moment you see a vision. You see a rocky world, hundreds of winged reptiles flying through the sky and around what appears to be some sort of temple, but just as soon as it began, it’s over.

“Well done, warrior.” Kaathe says, you shaking your head and blinking a few times to clear your head before turning to the giant snake. “You have done it. That which doesn’t belong has been cleansed, and shall never again defile the master’s realm. I shall take you to him, to receive your reward. But first...”
“But first what?” you ask it, confused.
“Your form is rather large, and I am unable to take you there as you are.” Kaathe says apologetically. “If you were to revert back to your usual form, I could take you there.”
“Alright.” you say, sighing out as you return to your base form. “I’m ready.”
“Alright, be still. And entrust thine flesh, to me.” it says, jaw unhinging as it once more takes you into it’s mouth. You feel the disorienting sensation of traveling in the creature’s mouth once again, and after several moments he once more spits you out. “We are here.”

Looking around, you find yourself in a place you feel is quite familiar. But as you look down into what looks like a pit of frozen fire, you wonder where you’ve seen it before.

“Master, I beseech thee, come forth and hear my words!” Kaathe calls down into the pit. You look down, seeing darkness rapidly coming up from the depths. You fall backwards as the darkness shoots upwards, narrowly dodging the pillar of Dark. As it passes you it quickly comes to a stop, descending back down until you find yourself coming face-to-face with a familiar friend.

“Who dares awaken me: Aku, the Master of Darkness?” the large face says, eyebrows burning as he looks down at both of you. “Ahh, Kaathe, why have you summoned me? And who is this mortal you’ve brought into my realm?”
“Dark Lord Aku, this mortal has done it.” Kaathe says, both excited and reverent. “He defeated the trespasser!”
