You are Skekzar the Ravener, half-way to being a full Skeksis, titled yet you have no seat in the court. The Emperor told you that you would need to find a sponsor to even have a shot at being accepted. You are a tube grown Skeksis and have in your short time alive mutated heavily into a form of absolute physical perfection. An apex predator among predators. Or so you thought, after meeting the Skeksis Court and seeing a limited sampling of their power. Still, you crave the power and the rush. The hunt and drive to dominate all who stand before you.

The day was a rush of violence, feasting and grandiosity, ending in a massive ritualistic orgy of Essence and...you’re not quite sure. The Darkmother was there, cheering you on as you engaged in some sort of eating contest, the Ornamentalist is in a few of the flashes of memory along with SkekUng’s face and some discomfort. A feat of strength. It’s all hazy but through it all you feel the thread of the Prime Essence, much more potent than any of the essence you’ve torn from your prey. The Scientist, you barely recall, tried to explain it to you but the memories are bleeding away as you tumble down from the heights of degeneracy and the essence wears off. The Emperor kept his distance during the festivities. You aren’t clear on why, though. The world is blurry and you focus on one memory from that night.

>The Scientist spoke with me. He examined me for any defects and we spoke at length about how I came to be and the terrible cost of our birth.

>The Ritual Master came over to bless me and told me of our people’s history. How we came to be lords of the galaxy and the nature of Essence

>The Dark Mother visited me as I sat in a corner, rolling in the ecstasy of the Prime Essence. She told me secrets about my progenitors and we were interrupted by an unwelcome visitor

Mutations-
[Blessing of the Hunt] Your body is blessed with the trappings of an apex predator. Stronger, Faster, Hardier but your scent reviles even those of your tribe. They can smell the Hunger on you and fear if they will be next

[Dark Vision] Skek-Zar can see perfectly in extremely low light conditions and living beings emit a sort of light highlighting something present in them.

>[Apex Ascension] Your unnatural hunger spurns your body to grow even larger, stronger, faster and hardier. Every aspect of your physical body grows to allow you take on prey much bigger than your already massive size. You now stand over a foot taller than the tallest Skeksis, even putting the early Garthim to shame. At this size the sheer intimidation of your form will command obedience from anyone.

Hunger beckons. A feast awaits if we can find a greater source of power.

>Dark mother visited me as I sat in a corner

I like to imagine SkekZar did not like feeling small. Not after proclaiming himself to be "THE BIG ENERGY" in front of his creators.

I wonder who that unwelcome visitor is...
My guess?

Anybody that isn't a beer- I mean meal.

It was late and most of the Court had retreated to their little nooks and alcoves. The Emperor slept noisily on his throne, claws clutching his staff tightly. In a haze you had made a sport of steaming every cushion in the room, even nabbing the Scroll Keeper’s right from under him. You are the Great SkekZar! No prize escapes you! There are more pillows, strange lumpy skittering things bring more in every time you look away. You think to eat one of these things but your pillow nest is far too inviting. That and it feels like your head is going to sink into your shoulders while your limbs are made of fuzzy noise that makes you chortle when you think about it too much.

With everyone tucked away or simply rolling on the ground with a mouthful of some sort of aquatic thing that screams when chewed on, you retire to your nest and bury yourself deep. A great number of pillows are needed to hide your bulk, but eventually you feel comfortable. Right before you drift away a small little cough rouses you. Peeking out from under a beige throw pillow you see the Dark Mother smiling down at you. Deet points towards your back.

“Silly Skeksis, you forgot to hide your tail!”

Grumbling you coil it back under your nest. Deet walks over, everyone else oblivious to her presence, and sits besides the pile and gently strokes your beak.

“There’s nothing quite like Prime Essence. The entire life force a world, consumed and refined by the Crystal. Sure you get a lot of regular Essence, but that's not nearly as rare or delicious as the good stuff. I taught him how to get it you know? SkekSo.”

You thunder in contented confusion. The little thing says so many words. You wonder if you could eat her again. The flesh tore like none other.

“Pay attention, silly child. Now long ago, thousands of Trine from now, on a little planet named Thra the Hunger Awoke when some incomplete Skeksis tried to become immortal. What SkekSo didn’t know was how to tame his hunger. There was a big war and a whole lot of nonsense about prophecy and the song but it was all so silly. I was taught how to master the Hunger and so I cut a deal with SkekSil. I would teach him how to use his power and in exchange he would protect my people. He betrayed the Skeksis, letting them think their victory complete but so long as I and my people survive they will never be truly whole. Except the Emperor, but he hasn’t been a Skeksis for a very long time.”

Deet’s eyes flashed that ravenous Violet hue as she drew in a long sigh.

“He should have listened to your other parent. You know the scientist threw everyone’s flesh into a big vat and hoped for the best. You should see the rejects. But your other parent knew the true key to immortality. To finding your place in the...natural order. He Hunted and submitted to Death. It fed him, but not the way our hunger feeds, and in time Death came to claim him. He accepted the cycle and became something natural, while SkekSo did the opposite. They fought on this until SkekSo had enough and betrayed the Hunter. The Emperor waited for an opportunity and one arose. There was a battle and the Hunter was near death. The Emperor betrayed the Hunter by entraping him in Aughra’s thread of fate. The rest they say, is history.”

Deet’s face sour’s further as someone shuffles up behind her. There is golden light in your eyes, dim but piercing.

“Are you telling lies to this bastard, Deet. I certainly didn’t kill the Hunter, just ended his physical being. He accepted his fate in the Song and became Eternal in the only way that matters. He was one of the only good ones of this lot, and you certainly aren’t helping. Now, go. It is my turn to speak to the creature.”

The dim figure waddles over to your nest of pillows and kicks the one blocking your face away. You growl in warning but the Essence as rendered you into a puddle of sensory euphoria. The squat figure draws in close and bops your nose with her staff. Three eyes, one closed glares at you.

“The Hunter was the only good one of these wretched cast offs. You would do well to abandon following Deet’s blasted footprints. You weren’t born from a failed ritual on a long dead world. You have a choice young man. I tried to tell you when you were but a lumpy mush of unborn potential, but now you’re all grown up. You want real power, you want to be the king of nature. Come down to SkekTek’s lab and tell him an old friend sent you and that she called him a triple-damned unappreciated spithead. I’ll show you truth. Now, wake up you useless brute.”

You snap to just as her staff comes down on your head. The world is blinding and your head rolls in a foggy pain. It takes a moment to make sense of your surroundings.

>You are laying in a cot of silken thread, draped between two massive rib bones standing besides a massive underground lake. The smell of roasted meat teases your nostrils and makes your stomach churn

>A delicate hand soothes you and strokes your cheek. The scent of perfume is overwhelming and the cloying delicateness of silks cools your massive frame

>There is a violent purple glare searing your eyes. Something massive hovers before you, behind think glass. It whispers terrible things to you.

These webs of words grow ever more thick.

Parents?
What are those.

SkekZar IS!
SkekZar WILL BE.

We are surrounded by great legacies and glorious heights of

>Conquest
>Pleasure
>Glory

We have become so strong and yet there is NONE for us!?

No honored place?

It sickens me.
I say we hear every whisper we can.
When others talk we listen.

Even if only to let themselves fall into a pit of their own making.

Let us hoard secrets. Then sharpen them into deadly blades.

>Skekso
>And some...other.

They are our "Parents"
Whatever that is.
Does this mean we need revenge on them?

The world stinks, not in a rotten sort of way but too far too sweet. It smells fake in a way, covering up a stink. The hand on your snout feels nice though. Massaging each and every scale of your face, even paying delicate attention to your beak’s bladed protrusion. Your instincts warn you of danger and you snap awake, tail thrashing and kicking the blankets off of you.

Your sudden movement scares off your comforter, the Ornamentalist pulling away in shock. Squawking a shrill alarm.

“Oh dearie, no Child. It is just I, tending to you as your slumbered. SkekEkt admires all the beautiful ones. No one else appreciates my parties, but you certainly appreciated me.”

You...what? No. You did not engage in anything with this person. Did you. A quick check of your vestments reveals the Zealot Suit still in-place and intact. The Ornamentalist laughs.

“Oh ho ho, no no dearie. We didn’t do that dance, you told me of your trophies and your triumph against our latest meal and I saw fit to immortalize you in my craft.” Her hand waves towards a finished painting, showing you posing with all your arms flexing while your skull trophy is locked in your smiling jaws. Its embellished slightly but it fills you with pride.

SkekEkt draws closer, wrapping her tail teasingly between your legs. I was told to send you to the Scientist when you woke. You really need to get a shipband so you aren’t lost on this giant hulking affront to aesthetics. Honestly, black obsidian tile floors, who’s funeral are we honoring. Hurry along, unless you wanted to discuss your bid for the Court. I happen to know someone very intent on helping you out...for a few...favors.” Her beak is dangerously close to your throat and her hot breath makes you feel uncomfortable, among other things.

>Stay and hear this creature out. You can sense the predator in the room but SkekZar fears no creature.

>Leave and head to the Scientist. SkekZar has no time for prey that willingly lays its neck in our jaws.

>Leave but head elsewhere in the ship. You saw enough of SkekUng working the controls to the ShipWurm.

For a moment you consider SkekEkt’s request. The painting makes your ego swell but then again, good hunters always use the proper bait. SkekEkt’s tail-play does offend you and you roughly shove her away. She screams in fear as she dives into a nest of blankets.

“I AM NOT PREY. BUT...GOOD TRIBUTE. LEAVE IN QUARTERS. PERHAPS I EAT YOU LAST” You laughingly bark, stomping out the door. You find yourself in another long hallway that leads into a sort of antechamber with many hallways branching off. Each hallway is marked with a plaque. You have trouble deciphering the text but it subconsciously comes to you and its all names for each Skeksis on the court. There is a single hallway labeled “Out” and it leads to a familiar dead-end hallway. You quickly call up the ShipWurm, direct its destination and make your way inside.

You take a moment to rummage around the room but nothing of note turns up in your search and before you can make another nest the Wurm reaches wherever the Scientist is. Its pulsing mouth dislodges you in front of a sealed metal portal. Intricate locking mechanism twists throughout the door. As you step closer it doesn’t budge, but a small panel flips open revealing the scientist’s metallic face.

“You came. Finally finished exploring the nature of physical existence with that walking disease vector. I have your ship-band ready. I need only a sample of your blood and tissue. Place any of your manipulators inside the cavity and hold still. The micro-samplers need a steady target. I also have to clean up in here.”

A panel under the video screen opens and a dim red glowing light within pulses softly.

>You place your arm in the device. The Scientist is a logical Skeksis, he would not harm me without the Emperor’s wrath coming down on him.

>I trust no Skeksis other than myself. This is a trick and I refuse the scientist and tell him to come out and get his sample himself.

>I bargain with SkekTek. He wants something, well we want something in return. He has many talents. Perhaps he has a good deal for us.

The Scientist would make a great ally. We can bargain and ask for stuff later. Besides skekTek is a bro.

We should also tell him that the "old friend" sent us.

Shrugging you comply with SkekTek’s orders and place your arm in the device. You fear no door and if this one tries anything funny, it will be your newest trophy. The moment you place your arm in the slot it suddenly becomes fixed in place. Some unseen force is holding it in place. Before you can begin to struggle SkekTek barks over the intercom.

“A stasis matrix is holding you still, don’t force it or you’re just going to break your arm and I am not spending an hour cleaning your blood from my machine. Hold still. This will sting.”

Sting is an understatement. You cannot see inside but you can feel strange things brushing over your arm, their sharp tips stabbing into various places up and down your forearm. Each jab leaves a burning warmth behind and you can feel a different heat burning away up and down you arm. In an instant it is over and your arm is freed. SkekTek is mumbling away.

“Hormone levels are off the charts, even correcting for baseline age and recent Prime consumption. Subject has mutated as well, recently. Negative energy levels are raised, even higher than at tube decanting. Several minor Garthitic parasites are present but exotic energy is quickly necrotizing them. Took a swim in the septic system did you, serves you right for breaking your maturation tank. Hmm, Genetics show you’re SkekSo’s and...oh. Hrm. That explains much of your biology and your meta-genetic instability. Never trusted SkekMal. Went native. Shame. Now come in. I have installed your ship band. Will give you map and show you where the rest of this ship of ghouls is roosting, if they want to be found.

You look down at your wrist and see a thin metallic band seamlessly clamped around it. A quick shake brings up a holographic map of the ship showing you all the nooks and crannies of this ship the Eternal. Most Skeksis are in their quarters but there are two blips without a name nestled in a small room in the living quarters. Presumably your two hatchmates. The memory of your party reminds you to deliver your message.

“SKEKTEK. I WAS TOLD. OLD FRIEND SAID TO GO TO YOU. CALL YOU TRIPLE SPITHEAD. DAMNED SPIT HEAD. OLD WOMAN SPOKE SUCH.” You rumble out causing SkekTek to go still on the monitor. He waits a moment and then turns away from the feed.

“Come inside then. We have much to discuss. Do not struggle.”

The hatch opens with a great deal of mechanical fanfare and hissing vents. The second the door is open a pair of great mechanical hands spring forward, clamping over your middle and pinning your hands down. With a violent yank, the hands rip you off your feet and suspend you upside down inside SkekTek’s lab. Its impossible to make anything out as two large spot lights blind you. The metallic Skeksis rounds on you, his back a mass of writhing metal limbs each tipped with some horrific metallic implement. Hooked blades, blue welding torches and even a few electronic eyes. SkekTek’s metal plates flap and hiss in a barely restrained rage. He inches towards you with a cold fire in his glowing eyes, the tools of his trade drawing closer as you try to struggle free.

“We have much to discuss. First is if you are lying to SkekTek. A prank maybe. The dead do not talk Youngling. We will find the truth of the matter, yes?”

As SkekTek advances even more robotic things claw their way into the light framing your imminent vivisection. Sometimes the trap obvious, begging you to step in its snare. Other time the trap is too subtle to notice before its too late. The hunger in your gullet worms in uneasy rage.

The world is a screaming cacophony of twisting blades, sharpening shears and static clicking. Skektek glides forward, his glowing eyes locked with yours. Some metallic segmented thing skitters around your face, snapping its serrated jaws a hairs breadth from your eye. Skektek blasts a deep staccato of that static clicking and the snapping thing launches off your face, onto the Scientists arm and slithers under one of the many shifting plates and tubes that make up his body.

"Chemo-receptors suggest a 0.02% chance of lying. I also am in possession of the facts and the facts are that she is dead. I do know that you have been consorting with the Emperor's secret and that I took steps to prevent your exposure to the crystal's corruption. So why are you saturated with dark energy, hmm? I will tell you nothing unless."

Skektek's manipulator tendrils shudder for a moment in thought.

"You want a seat on the court and my secrets. Take this sampler and bring me a bit of the Emperor's flesh or blood. Tell no one or I will make sure that you suffer before the end."

Your binds release you into a heap on the floor as the door behind you opens up and the mechanical things withdraw into the shadows. A small disc, no larger than the tip of your finger, skitters over to you and then latches to the underside of your front right hand. The legs embed into your flesh and the discs body fades from sight.

"Now go SkekZar, before I grow insulted." Skektek waves you off before turning around and walking into the shadows.

>I will show you insulted. Take the opportunity and attack SkekTek as his back is turned. Your claws could easily rend him asunder

>You leave and go see the Emperor, either to take the sample, or not. The sooner you get a sponsor the better.

Poor SkekEkt. She's just lonely, the situation must be hard on her most of all.
>>
>>3851819
Striking now would be foolish. Skektek clearly expects you try something and kept you blind to everything in his lab. So you strike at his ego before you go. You force your voice low, straining to slide the claw deep.

"Skekzar wonders, does meat remain under SkekShell.."

The Scientist ceases his strange clicking speech. His four arms chench their fists for a moment. Then without a sound SkelTeks entire head around over his shoulder. He impossibly stares at you and his mouth twists into a savage grin as the plates around his face unfold revealing a skull stripped to the bone. Wires and strange glowing filaments twist and pulsate as they wind into empty eyes sockets and the scent of essence wafts from a maw that ceased its usefulness long ago.

"Flesh? The flesh is failure. Rotting decaying meat, barely fit to hold Truth. Place your trust in flesh, feed your form to bursting, shower in essence and see where that gets you. I would welcome an acolyte. If you are eager little one to test your flesh against steel and learn Truth...I have some sturdy doors that should challenge you." He bark laughs from his stripped and dislocated skull at you as the door to the lab swings shut in your face.

Another insult. Do they all have death wishes. Soon. Someday you will...what actually will you do?

What is your goal in all this SkekZar?

>I want to be the Emperor and rule the galaxy as the Strongest. Nothing shall ever contain me

>I will consume them all and claim this ship as my own. They are prey and I am the Apex. This galaxy is my hunting ground

>I will pry their secrets from their claws and bend them all in worship. I want true power not simple tyranny.

You contemplate your dreams as the Shipwurm returns you to the living quarters. Riding in the belly of a creature is unsettling. You are no parasite, you are predator. Perhaps this creature's skull will make a fine trophy one day. The ship band weighs on your wrist, being tagged is never a good sign, but a thought for later as you emege you…

>are greeted with fire, blood and battle. The living quarters is under assault by unknown parties. You can hear the clash of metal on shell in the distance and make for the battle. There is Garthim blood in the air...and Skeksis.

>step off the train, only to bump into a hunched skeksis you do not recognize. As it looks up to yell, you both come to a startling realization about each other and things become ugly quickly

A world lays before us they mock our desire to reign.

I say we reject this.
We find something in this heap that belongs to SKEKZAR and ONLY Skekzar.

I say...

>We destroy this golden cage, any Skeksis that has insulted us and anything that displeases us

Skekzar brings it all down
Remakes this world.

WE ARE THE NEW BEGINNING

AN ETERNITY NOT OF WEAK SCHEMERS
OR PALTRY HEDONISM

AN ETERNITY OF GLORY

Our goal?

>We rule them
>And destroy them
>So skeksis can become the Apex Predators they were truly meant to be.

Masters of the Galaxy.
DREADNAUGHTS OF DARKNESS

HARBINGERS OF HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Burn it down, Skekzar.
Rule over the ashes.

Hunt. This is our purpose. Our quarry may be Skeksis, it may be the lesser creatures, it matters not. We were born to pursue, to devour, and so we shall. All else is meaningless.

Skekzar hungers not only for food, but also for knowledge. And NOTHING stands in the way of his hunger.

On the train you reflect on your situation. You are caged beast in this place. Skeksis tell you who you are, where to go, who to bow to and who to talk to. Even the dream spirits lead you into danger and embarrassment. This will not stand. SKEKZAR IS KING and this cage shall be refashioned as you see fit.

>You shall learn the secrets of the Eternal and use them to grow beyond the Skeksis

>Any that oppose you will be crushed, even the slightest insult will be repaid and even the Emperor will bow.

You nod, finding comfort in your purpose. So far you've learned a great deal.

>The Emperor is in consort with Deet, the gelfing darkmother to master the strange power of Hunger, the Darkening, Dark Energy

>SkekTek is allies with a strange old woman, seemingly opposed to Deet but you require getting the Emperor's tissue for the Scientist, if you don't decicde to rat him out.

>Something strange is calling you to the drive core. The message on your shipband is nonsense but there is a location.

The emperor comes first. If any plan to dominate this place is to succeed he must first be handled. He knows of your speaking with Deet but she cautioned you not to speak of her presence. You did not get the chance to meet him as the moment you stepped off the train you bumped into someone.

The skeksis, about half your size and hunched tumbles backwards before your mighty bulk. He grows at you but the sound catches in his throat as you lock eyes with his single eye. A single eye as the other eye is blinded and covered in scar tissue. A crude, rusted plate is stitched to the flesh over the socket making a crude eye patch. Your mouth waters at his scent. This is your first meal denied. The first offering to your greatness, again laid prostrate before you.

Fear flickers for a moment across his face before a smile creeps out. Before you can react the prey lunges for your hand and rakes his shoulder across your sharp claws. The wound is minor but a hot splash of blood dirties the floor and the prey screams in a keening whimpering voice.

"MURDERER! HELP! Skekzar has murdered poor SkekLis. Oh! Mercy! Please! Skeksis no murder Skeksis! Murder!"

Its almost amusing, this SkekLis cries out like a wounded animal but the smile on his face never wavers. You can hear shuffling coming from the various rooms as his cries draws the flock.

>You silence the whelp and lay onto this SkekLis. His flesh is rightfully yours and he struck first. If any have objections let them raise them. They cannot save his life nowm

>You quickly shove SkekLis into the ShipWurms mouth and impale him on the teeth screaming for help. The worm has gone mad

You stare down at SkekLis, the feeling of power and dominance thrumming in your veins. The cries catch in your subordinates throat as his ruse falls flat. The Ornamentalist appears on the second floor balcony, draped luridly over the shoulder of the stoic Ritual Master. They watch you both, the silence broken only by the gurgling of the ShipWurm.

"YOU GOT IN MY WAY, AGAIN. DO YOU ENJOY PAIN? NASTY SKEKSIS."

You lick the blood from your claws and then tap his eye patch gently, threateningly. He shudders, whimpering.

"PERHAPS, YOU SERVE. I EAT YOU LAST."

The Ornamentalist crows, withdrawing a pouch of some kind from the Ritual Masters robes.

"Oh dearie, I win the bet, though Im sad we didnt get to see more fratricide. Punishments are most darling of parties to throw."

There is a shout as SkekOk runs down the hallway leading from the Emperors chambers. He screams, robes disheveled and spectacles askew.

"THE EMPEROR! THE EMPEROR IS DEAD!"

The Ornamentalist breaks into tears as she is tossed aside by the Ritual master who makes for the Emperor.

"This cannot be. We are eternal. He must be ill. Call the Scientist. NOW!"

You pause, the hunger inside you stirring.

You launch up to the second floor balcony, eliciting a flustered gasp from SkekEkt. You dont even have time to register smashing the floor in as your talons rake long gouges with each thundering stride. To be the first at his side, to proclaim yourself heir, maybe just to take a bite out of his throat to make sure. The hallway is simple, no embossed design or even lights to guide you. The dark holds not power over you as your eyes simply adjust. Now in the dark you can see the twisting veins of hunger that pulse through the walls. They grow thicker and more violet each leap, as does the lurid stench of Essence.

It takes some time as the dark tunnel winds its way deeper and deeper into the ship until you come across a blind drop. Its hard to see how deep the drop goes but the raw essence and hunger seethes from the aperture like a bleeding wound. You can hear the others making their way down the tunnel but slowly in the dark. SkekLis is muttering with the Ritual Master and you can hear SkekUngs garthim skittering with him.

You leap down the hole and land on a small platform several body lengths below you. Clearly an elevator of some kind as its the only way in or out. The emperors chamber is strange. Its more a small forest than a bed chamber. It feels familiar, the trees close to those in your dream with Deet, but the Hunger thrums through it all. There are many living things lurking in the dark light but you can only smell them. The space is large enough you cannot see the walls but in the center of this place, where all the veins of hunger congregate you find a pool. A large pool entirely filled with Essence.

From a large pile of stone pours a continuous supply of essence. It washes down and fills the pool without it overflowing. In the center of this mouth watering feature you see his body. Suspended weightlessly in the waters the Emperor floats. His eyes shut as if in a restful slumber but your senses can see he draws no breath and his hearts are still. The body is not cold yet.

>you leap upon the emperor's corpse and consume it ensuring he is dead and to secure your birthright as Alpha. The scientist can pick his sample from your teeth.

>cradle his body and mourn loudly. The emperor is technically one of your progenitors...however that worked. Perhaps some emotion will cement your ascension

Pluck the sample now. If others see us then we claim to have been trying to kill him.

If they are too weak to understand that. They are all worthy of destruction.

>Hunt the woods

Specifically so that we may emerge and reveal we made it here first. That we have been watching the others.

Claim we 'sensed' our way to him. The connection between us must be made clear. The realization of it's import must SEEM like it was the idea of our brethren.

If Skeklis tries to touch him. Strike the fool down. That's our parent. Not theirs.

You pause for a moment and find a large stick, wanting to avoid wading into the lake of essence. It takes some fortitude to stifle the urge to drink the waters and to also not consume the emperor's corpse. Something feels off, something in the woods is watching you with predatory intent. Nothing happens when you disturb the body, it just floats. The little gadget on your hand clicks when it makes contact with his face and flashes green for a moment before turning invisible again.

The forest goes quiet and all the creatures hiding in the underbrush scatter. Deciding that moving would be sound you launch into the brush and begin scurrying along the trees. Massive arms and a thick tail make quick work of moving to a more defensible position and a quick scan of the tree line reveals something off about the scent of hunger. Even your own hunger writhes in unease. The silence is broken by the mechanical sound of the elevator rising to likely bring the other Skeksis down.

Something is nearby, you can feel it following your old trail that you looped back over your own. The air ripples and something steps out of nothingness. Hunger pours from the rift like a gash in the side of prey animal as the thing glides through.

Larger than you easily by twice your body length with four arms, two ending in viscous blades. Eyelessly it scents the air, its gaping mouth dripping pure Hunger. Where legs would be are rather thick tendrils that lash against something unseen to propel this beast effortlessly through the air. It croaks in a strange gulping noise and something breaks for the underbrush. A small fuzzy creature, more a round ball of fuzz is speared instantly by this monster's blade. The beast does not die but just withers away as its essence is consumed.

Deet is suddenly by your side, hovering just behind your ear. Her bubbly demeanor is replaced with quiet fear. You dont dare move to look at her.

"Essence Wraith. Very nasty. Didn't think he actually would do it. Our contract still holds. Think you should run little Skeksis, but maybe you can take it on?"

Shes gone before you can growl back.

Well SkekZar, can you?

>We are well hidden and our scent is masked by the the Hunger that drenches this place. The Wraith will pass close to us. A well timed strike to the neck where its arms cannot reach will end this.

>stay hidden. This creature killed the Emperor and we do not know its weaknesses. Better the others handle this, maybe there is a different place the emperor kept his secrets. His scent is faint to the east.

>lead this thing to the other Skeksis. It should follow you but careful positioning will make it look like you have arrived just in time to save the Skeksis.

Ill get one here. SkekZar is massive. If the skeksis are gibbons, the Hunter is a chimp and SkekZar is a gorilla. Hes taller than the emperor and larger than a Garthim. His four arms are about the same size, the back ones being slightly thinner but all four are massive. His tail is fatter and longer than the Hunters and overall hes becoming less avian and more reptilian. Think raptor like. Massive claws and teeth and his nose beak has a small triceratops like point that is blade like while the peak itself is somewhat blunted. His eyes are Violet as SkekZar is mainlining pure Darkening. Also he is currently wearing a sayin armor-like suit made from the carapace plates of deas Garthim Zealots, holy warriors that died for their Skeksis Gods. It has expanded to fit his frame. Plumage on his head is getting sparser, a mowhawk of sorts not but everywhere else scale-like plates developed.

Add meat to the Hunter, devolve him into a real predator and make it constantly yelling. Keep in mind his proprtions are still skeksis, long body, short legs and lanky arms.

A chad among the skeksis. SkekLis, your rival is half the size of the Chamberlin and you are a foot taller than the Emperor.

Well see how you grow as your mutations havent seemed to slow down.

Skekzar is not very old and primed as a dominant hunter genetically. It's entirely within character for him to develop his cunning and scheming over time; in contrast, SkekLis must compete with us and only has the avenue of a schemer available to him, so that is how he has first developed.

Its prowls through the underbrush, creeping closer and closer until its right beside you. It turns its head away and in a moment you are upon its back. Talons flash and rake into its alien flesh as you latch on. The hide feels soft but you are leaving no injury. It's almost as if the thing was made of water. No matter how hard you bite, tear and gouge nothing seems to stick.

You rear back you upper left arm and it catches in the air while something constricts around your waist. The wraith cranes its head backwards and it simple smiles at you. Its hand raises up with a single finger, jabs at you belly and tut-tut finger wags at you before the world goes numb and spinning.

You are in the air reaching for something to brace your landing but the snared hand isn't working. You cant feel it anymore and you land on the jungle floor in snap into a world of pain. Your blood seeps from your ruined shoulder, a thin nub of shoulder bone exposed all that remains of your limb. It still twitches a little as you fruitlessly try to move an arm that no longer is attached. The wraith licks the blood from its bladed hand and proceeds to consume your severed arm. Sound slowly fades back in and the creature is laughing. It finishes off your arm with a final bite that drains away the limb to dust and then slips back in between its pocket dimension and leaves you shuddering from the pain.

I'd like to go with Aughra's option because it's got the potential for Skekzar to gain a metal arm. But it feels very out of character.

Eating the emperor might have unforseen consequences. Deet warned us he wasn't really a Skesis anymore, we don't know why he died, and I'm pretty sure he turned into that Wraith.

Going after the Wraith was risky before we had massive stat penalties. It doesn't seem worth it to continue. So:

The world is blurry with pain and humiliation. That thing could have slaughtered you but instead chose to simply maim you. You think to snag the Emperor's corpse but Deet is frantic in her gesturing and points towards the pool and shakes her head. The elevator platform is moving again and is no time to get the emperors corpse.

You stagger down the narrow path, worn flat by the treading of many small things. You do not know for how long you walk, the only mark of time is the throb of pain from your shoulder. Deet is there when you grow confused or simply do no not which turn to take. Sound is returning slowly, replacing the shrill ringing with the sound of your travel.

"Almost there little one. We can heal you. Make you stronger. He fell. Untrusting in my wisdom. Come, quickly. The others hunt you."

The path breaks into a small clearing. Its hard to make out but the area is littered with small huts and various dig out dwellings. All too small to house a skeksis. Your vision is fading, simple exhaustion taking over. Deet appears out of a door at the base of a large, warped tree, at least you think its her. Deets flesh is warped and cracked, seething with Hunger and erupting small crystal clusters. She waves her hand and several smaller things that look like her kind scurry out.

"Rest, SkekZar. My children will attend you and when you wake we will Dream together."

Deet ushers her children closer as they lead you to a large nest of soft bedding inside a larger dwelling. You have to duck and end up simply crawling into the bed. The strange creatures with their long ears and small size look appetizing, save for the ugly purple growth at the base of their skull. You can feel the hunger within and it seems as if all these things act in unified concert. A poultice is applied to your wound and some meat is offered to you.

You are safe for the moment, but the Hunger inside you still rages in primal terror. Does it fear the Wraith, or perhaps it fears you most of all.
