You roll over under the covers.

You sniff and smack your lips, it's late morning you think.

You still have her scent. Her taste. You sigh contently. Not how you imagined your college years but hey.

You feel a weight on the side of your mattress. Someone's sitting on your bed.

You hear a familiar slow and low voice. It's like listening to a glass Hennessy.

HIGHBALL kisses you on the forehead. She's playfully pinning you in bed. She's still pretty strong.
"Thanks for not being selfish, too. I mean. You coulda been but you weren't."

She pats you on the chest.

"And you're a little green- but ya got vim. That counts for a lot."

>coulda sworn that double row shark teeth would've hurt."

She beams at you, showing both rows.
"I got good technique mmhm."

"You're all good, pal Joey. Plenty of tick tocks left in the day, yeah? I'll be practising knife throwing if you need me!"

HIGHBALL finally clambers off you and exits, clicking her fingers while she walks.

You rub your eyes and go to the executive washroom.

You wash and dress in your RIDERS. Its been cleaned and laid out for you.

You're carrying:

REVOLVER (4 bullets, 2 TROLLSTOPPERS)
24 bullets
1 mana potion
1 small health potion
1 large health potion
A fist sized sapphire

Good inventory.

You walk to the kitchen to grab a coffee. It's not amazing but it is hot.

JONES is happy you stopped by and is thrilled about all the meat MIKE brought with him.

He serves you up a grilled ham, sausage, mushroom and cheese omlette as if to make his point.

Somethings we might wanna do while we're onboard.
-Check out what sapphire is from SURREY, might be worth something other than selling.
-Have HB try on her diplomat outfit(Really wish we got the servant set, 100% it would've been a maid outfit).
-Chat up our companions and crew, see if we can unlock some stuff from them.

>Check the crew needs list, see if anyone wants anything

Currently working on improving the wiki.

Ways that you guys could help me
1) Give me full names, classes, and races of everybody in the crew and party members we've picked up
2) Give me the full names, classes, and races of everybody we've met or heard of so far.
3) Give me the names of any foes we've fought (preferably with a link to the suptg post that has them)

These would help me lay down the foundation for article expansion in the wikipedia (which I'm already doing but this would be an enormous help).

Also i can't remember the name of our ship. That would be appreciated as well.

Finally, what information is relevant to character templates?

You nod and tell JONES you should go.

You crop in on MIKE in his new quarters. He is sitting down with a small screwdriver in his mouth working on a large rifle of some sort.

He one sides his work so as not to be rude.

>>Ask Mike if he wants dropping anywhere specific or if he's happy to trade wherever we go

MIKE smacks his lips

"I uh...sorry. I must have misunderstood. I figured that since you invited me to an icebreaker last night and paid me 230g that you were hiring me. At least for a week or so. Did I read that all wrong?"

>- maybe also ask him for tips how to survive out in the wilderness

"Well the big iron is a good start. But your brain should be as loaded as your gun. Hit the books. Knowing is half the battle."

MIKE lights his pipe.

"Don't be shy with the potions. Just cause you have a healer doesn't mean she couldn't be doing something else given the chance. Cloudjars. Boomflasks. Grink. These can make a break a fight. I speak from a loners point of view, I realise."

MIKE takes a big draw from his pipe, and breathes the smoke through the ejection port of his rifle.

"Situational awareness is everything.

MIKE shrugs.

"But hey. You're 19 and have your own crew. Can't see you needing my advice."

JONES tastes from a saucepan

"Both. All. I've been on Buyfugllian trains of people looking for new fortunes. Been on boats with people who'd already found their's. Troop transports. Locamotive buffet cars. Even spent a year aboard The ceaseless.. They all had either too much demand or too restrictive a menu. When you cook for 100 people you menu has to be safe. Dull, in other words. Small business like this means I was on the move but could really see what I could do."

>"The ceasless?.....is that a navy ship? seems pretty big for a 100 people onboard."

"No no. The Ceaseless is that massive train. I guess you'd call it. There's no gaps on the track and it's really slow. It's constantly moving and passes through 3 cities. Two on the central belt. One in the elven territories. Moves slow enough that they can unload it as it moves through a city and refill in others. Mostly used for mineral transports I think."

"KERDIL is a good place to hunt mobs if you can handle it. Lotta dwarves. Lotta baseheads. Worse things. JARKA has less mobs, but it has some odd little communities. If you stay sweet with them, you can trade. I don't always need what they have but..yeah they're okay. Any unmarked piece of long grass has potential. Especially on that island with lighthouse. There's bad trouble there, though. No ones attacked me, but they asked a lot of questions. Just called me 'ork' even after I told them my name. I dunno. Bad vibes."

" Just sort of ended up that way. I worked for a few companies. Spent decades in a grink place. Easy and profitable but boring. Too many people. Always wanted to socialise after work. Started my own business. Couldn't get the supplies to make what I wanted. Worked at a mid range health potion place. Sold my own stuff on the side. Not always legal. Got rumbled and had my license threatened. CHESAPEAKE represented me legally free of charge - then hired me. Assured me a measure of autonomy and good ingredients. Been working for him since. "I have not had a proper hobby in some time. Perhaps now is the time? What do you recommend?"

>Try having RICHTER look at the sapphire

Also, thought we were meant to be on the straight and narrow to a degree at least. Robbing a train doesn't really fit that MO, and the crew won't be happy bout it either.

I'm not against doing LIGHT skullduggery and illegal shit as long as it's against folks who can afford to be stolen from and we're not punching down.

But it's about sensible robbery. 9 times in 10 illegal activity is the result of stupidity.

My mother worked in the appelette court system. The case she told me about that sticks in the mind (while by no means the only example of 'all criminals are idiots') is the guy who told his gilrfriend that if she robbed the liquor store he'd give her half.

"I would be happy to drink with you all sometime of course, but I feel there are certain games I am ill suited to. It's not a hard and fast code. It is simply how I live my life."

>How typical was her training compared to the average Lacertomagus?
"I have not met many other muscle wizards, so I could not tell you if I am different from how they normally are. Every one of us finds our own path and own strength, even if parts of our journey must be the same. There is no set order, no one way to build muscle. No one way to survive. Mine was a journey of preparation of both body and mind. Observe. Discover. Whatever else we know or don't know, by virtue of the very things that make us muscle wizards we will always be more worldly than when we began. If we were not, we would have died. It is a difficult path to walk , you see. The iron is not always known for making compromise. But that is why we respect it."

>Whatever makes you happy Richter, charity or something that helps your goals... perhaps mana or hp pots.

LUMSDEN is working a few leavers and flicks some switches on the dashboard, she turns to you and smiles.

"Back to DUNNLIVIN, right?"

"So how'd you end up meeting Chesapeake anyway?"

"Not much to it. I was dropping off a bunch of RINKAN in GANTON. He approached me and asked if my ship was available for hire. I said it was. He paid several month in advance and threw in a bunch of extra money on top. That was that."

>"Are harpies or any other flying predator a concern while travelling?

"Certainly can be. I tend to fly pretty high though so we'll generally be okay except during take offs and landings. Or if you ask me to fly low. Flying high uses more fuel, but I stand by it."

>"How far can this ship go without needing to refuel? Could we make a trip from Scadam to Joonda in one shot, or would we need to make pit stops?"

"Hmmm. Yes. If we stock up proper when we're in DUNNLIVIN. It's more of a point that I can't land in JOONDA. My ship isn't registered."

>"I'm thinking about investing in some ship upgrades, anything you think would be useful?"

LUMSDEN exhales and rubs her hips.

"Depends on what you want. Extra rooms can be useful. With a rope ladder upgrade, I could pull you out of dangerous situations from the ship, provided you're outside. Like I said. It depends on what you want."

LUMSDEN turns the SAPPHIRE over.

"Ah man. This was never my department. I just got in there and messed shit up. Left that sorta thing.."

Her enthusiasm fades

"Left that sort of thing to Skal. She would always sell the loot and divide it among us."

>>What kind of ship is the Silver Lining, maybe it can be converted into a fantasy bootleg AC-130 with upgrades.

"Richter could pulverise a melon in a second, if speed was the intention. There's be seeds everywhere and likely no melon to eat. BURSTOCK would take several tries, have to hitch up her skirt and eventually through repeated exertion, split the melon open. Slower, but probably more of a draw business wise. Crowd reaction is important. The simple answer is RICHTER."

LUMSDEN leans down to you and pats your face twice.

"And you're a very sweet young man for thinking I'd even be in the running against those two."

BURSTOCKS door is closed.
You knock on BURSTOCKS door.

"it's open~"[/b]

You enter and find her relaxing on her cot bed with her feet up on her gin barrel.

She blinks and slowly stands up. She smoothes herself.

" Oh, hello, jefe. What can I help you with?"

BURSTOCK notices the vodka.

"AH. Nice."[/b]

>>Ask Burstock about the Everking, see what's the deal is with him

BURSTOCK puffs out her cheeks.

"Now there's a well with no bottom.

" Like...what does he do? WHo he is...where did he come from? Cause..like, all anyone has is speculation and legend."

>Hey, what did you plant at the lab?

BURSTOCK blinks and then looks left and right. Genuinelly unsure.

"I thought you bought the planter box. Man I am LOSING it.

>so.....have you dated or....know things about dating a goblin? what would one like as a gift for example, I could ask but it's meant as a surprise

BURSTOCK places her hands on her hip and shakes her head, smiling.

"I have messed around with goblins, yes. I can tell you the basics. Ear rubs good, hand holding bad, gold good, utensils bad - but the most important thing when dating a goblin - especially one so furiously independent as to leave her burrow is to think of her as an individual. Do not think 'what would a goblin like?' , think 'what would Highball Nepermuk like?' If you don't know - spend more time with her until you do. If you want the real deal and not just some fucking around with an oddly hot and motherly goblin barbarian then you can't rush it."

BURSTOCK bugs her eyes a bit.

"Just as an example, I mean."

>Also have her check out the sapphire it's blue she's blue and it might be magic.

BURSTOCK looks at the SAPPHIRE a while then sniffs.

BURSTOCK bites the SAPPHIRE.

"It's not novelty candy. I've worked out that much. See what you can get for it. "

>you adventured before, right? know of any interesting places we could try our luck?

"Depends on what sort of adventure you have in mind. For unmatched excitement, most of the unexplored lands are to the north. In the orkish archipelagos. For sheer profit - we oughtta go to the Speelskard hotsprings and roll people there. Lotta scumbags go to that place."

>you were awesome at the forest, we would be dead and gone if not for your healings....we got off to a rough start, mostly my fault I admit, but I'm really glad you came along

BURSTOCK mimes bathing motions.

"You are very welcome.

>so what does Burstock do for fun aside from cactus tending and a fine taste for gin?

I like games of chance. Dice games especially. I like to nap. I like to throw myself violently into a cactus and heal myself at least once a day. It keeps me sharp. I like to experience new things. Since I can heal I can give many things a shot with relative safely. Turns out boffing something chitinous sin't as dangerous as you'd think. It's a good time. And now I know that."

>>"Hey if you already *knew* that hand holding was a no go why'd you ask HB for one?"

"In case she said yes. It had been some time since I had seen a goblin and I got excited. I asked, hoping she would be enterprising. I guess she was, really but...I am still sorry for what it's worth."

>>"What does it take to get a GTU license for magic? like an exam?"
"Several. Gotta pass everything in college, lodge an application - background checks - the works. It's kind of a big deal. Even then, unless it's part of your job, you'd probably have to file an incident report if you use magic in public in a proper city. Lotta rules."

>So, what's your story with plants? You seem to like them, a change of pace from tending to flesh and bone?

"The berries are for muddling with gin. The cactus is part of my morning routine. I guess I'm watering the planter box because I like to drop in on people here. So I bring SURREY coffee and tend to the planter box."

BURSTOCK grabs the vodka and pours a couple of glasses. She toasts.

"Okay. SO. The Everking."

She sips the vodka and makes a slight face.

"Mnhm, Anyways. We're gonna have to go back to the past for this. Before the great unity. Before Luton. Before the war. Before the empire. The elves hadn't sent out a single boat.

Elves. Orks. Humans. All living on separate lands. All certain they are the sole residents of this planet. Madness, right? But there it was.

The humans of the central band had long been in touch with the hud. Magic was a way of life for them. They were not using it as well as they could, obviously. It was the orks that taught them discipline and elves that taught them standards. Even so. Magic was everywhere.

To heal. To help crops. And indeed, to entertain.

There was one such entertainer - a stage magician who sought true greatness in his field. He did not know how to become stronger. Only knew that he wanted to. He practised every day. He would meditate. He would look to the sky for answers. He would whisper to shadows, they say.

He was not evil. He did not want to hurt. He sought only brilliance. He simply wanted to make people love magic. He wanted to be the best.

They say he was still a young man by the time he was playing to sold out auditoriums. 250 people. 500. 2000. They said he could talk to animals. Contact the dead. Bend space. And he could put on a show like no one else.

His theatrics became more and more bizarre but the crowd loved it. He assume personas throughout his show, but he always defaulted to his own self at the end.
A world class entertainer in his signature white suit, purple shirt and swirling cape. Classic stuff.

One night. Sell out performance. He came on stage to thunderous applause. He had a stag skull over his face.

LADIES and GENTLEMAN!! I come to you tonight reborn! Not merely a magician! But a god of the forest and nature! I walk among you to share my magic.

Applause.

For my first trick - or shall I say 'miracle'?

Laughter.

"I will reach into this fine top hat and produce my own head!"

Basic portal magic. We know this now.

Didn't work.

We dunno what he pulled out of that hat, but. He changed. Everything changed. The world had its first lich.

Perhaps he tore off hos own head and his own soul all at once. Whatever happened. He is now sure he is a god and...well, he may as well be.

He found ancient dragon bones and formed them onto his own body. He lives now in the vast and dangerous KARDIBA forest. Mad but..probably harmless.

Wherever there is unexplained undeath roaming, he manifests. Some say the whole world is his phylactery."

BURSTOCK finishes her drink.

"We're all just guessing of course. It's not like anyone who saw his final performance actually survived."

Basically. His connection to the HUD - the mana stream is so powerful that he is visible to those that have the capacity to reach the mana flow. Even if they are not wizards. If JONES or CHESAPEAKE had been with us - they would have 'seen' him also.

Goblins. Orks. Trolls. None of them have hud. Mana.

Wherever he is strong enough to manifest, there will be unquiet dead."

Agree 100%, I'm fully against the harem route for the record. Not only is it dumb in concept and imo kinda boring character-wise, CF seems to be telegraphing pretty hard that it won't turn out great (at least given our track record for tact).

Secret ulterior motive: I'm a despicable yurifag and the more girls our boy Joey gets the fewer girls can get with other girls. Sue me.

I still think we should be cuddle bugs with her, but then I'm personally always for PDA/physical displays of affection, and I think that'd mean a lot to Highball given the way goblins are seen at large and it'd be a pretty significant display of 'we love you and fuck what other people think'

"So basically a goblin needs to be assessed and given approval by the local and regional SATs. Merchants get temporary passes. Oh yeah, good question. I know why blooches aren't, and I can easily guess why trolls aren't either, but why not goblins?
(also, I don't remember, did anyone ever explain exactly what gopniks are?)

>"Either way you look elegantly fine, They'd be too distracted just looking at you for any checks to happen."

She smirks as she pulls her stockings back on.

"Most folks aren't that into goblins, fella."

>Mind joining for a drink on the deck? seems like a romantically appropriate place for a casual drink and a chitchat."
*Present the vodka I hope we still have to her.

"Sure, why not? Just gimme a sec."

>"I've just been wondering why does the GTU only comprise of Human, Elves, and orcs as a ternion species? Why not the other intelligent races?"

"Well, mogwomps have been worked into the fold, and aptgangrs, natch. But mogwomps don't got a lot of stipulations and aptrgangrs used to be elves, orks, humans or grels. SO that's not a problem. But the rest of us - we got rules. Demands. Goblins want what we got more than what the GTU can offer us. Some burrows send envoys to see if we can discuss things, soften trade laws , poaching laws and breeding procedure but that's not really a thing. When do goblins stop being goblins if we do what they want us to? It's a whole lotta applesauce."

HIGHBALL buckles up her shorts.

"As far as Ophiachans and Pajaks go, well they're split into too many tribes with too many differences. Some are dangerous, some aren't. Some are just kinda dumb. You can't form an alliance with Pajaks as a species because they don't even work with each other."

Highball shakes the styling out of her hair.

"And well, the Nowls aren't really seen as a separate species -rightly or not. And by virtue of being nowls they've rejected society anyways."

>ask her about why poaching laws and breeding procedures would matter?

HIGHBALL finishes dressing and gives her backside a quick pat with both hands.

"Goblins have long established traditions and beliefs that seem harsh to others. The product must be obtained. Power must be sought. Only the strong survive.

It is a fight to be the sheeba of a goblin burrow. AND once you're there you need you - and your bloodline to stay there. A sheeba wont waste her time raising gobletts that can't succeed her properly. If you take my meaning.

But on the flipside, you need your underlings and their children to be strong but not an actual threat. So if someone under a sheeba has a kid who is strong - obviouslly strong. They had better send that kid packing or hide them. A Sheeba will not risk being overthrown."

HIGHBALL walks past you and grabs the vodka.

"The roof, right?

Regarding poaching. It's generally accepted among you guys that smarter species -elves, ophiachans, some pajaks aren't hunted for their product. Well, goblins don't see it that way. The sorta hoobascotch that chesapeake was doing? Pretty normal for goblins. Some of our oldest traditional potions require the capture and rendering of such creatures. Lotta gobs don't wanna budge on that."

SHe glances down a little.

"There are reasons why folks don't like goblins much, Joe.

HIGHBALL gives you an impressed sly glance ash she pauses part way through climbing the ladder to the deck.

"Not bad. Smooth as eggs in the coffee, pal."

You both step out onto the deck of the ship. The air is brisk and clear. You can see DUNNLIVIN in the distance.

HIGHBALL takes a pull of the vodka and makes a face. She hands you the bottle.

"Well, not everyone comes out of the gate strong."

QM: Though occasionally joked about to that effect, a gopnik is not actually a separate species. They are a tracksuit clad, heavy drinking, heavy smoking, quite rude class of ternion species (almost always elves) that can be found in many major cities.

Come to think of it, in the long term are we planning to ever go back to get qualified in magic shit? From what Burstock says it doesn't seem like it's that worth it for what we're doing (mostly outside of GTU so far), and we seem to have enough ability to bootleg spells as it is.

Hmm, I dunno. I know enough people IRL that like to brag about their alcohol resistance that would absolutely love something that tastes alcoholic but can't get them drunk.
We should probably let Surrey know that she added the wrong kind of apples to the mix before she makes much more of it, though.

We already have potions and a full-fledged Vitamagus for healing, no need to tie up one of our spell slots with that. We run a potion brewing operation, we won't run out of potions any time soon. The only Thanomagus spell I can think we might want something to do with is indeed Marwolaeth Bolt, but I'm not sure if it's basic enough for us to learn it. Maybe Banish, but that's definitely not basic. I don't think I want Joey to go around summoning undead, and everything else is too specialized or draining.

You know what we need but I don't remember seeing in the Baron's list? A backpack. I'd like us to be less constrained by Joey's pocket size. He always says to check with him if there's something we want not in there, so let's see if he has one in stock.

QM: Sorry to be the asshole spoilsport here, but I thought I should mention - the specialised disciplines of magic aren't something you can just pick up a bit of.

Generally you complete 3 years of basic wizadry (you're at the end of your first year) and then go onto another 4-6 at a college specially for that discipline.

I'm really sorry, I realise this is an unfamiliar universe. I just didn't want you to get your hopes up.

Now, in this quest, because it's a quest, you can go down the path of thanomagy, vitamagy, prudemagy without it taking 7 years. But you still gotta focus.

Again, I'm really sorry.

There are potions and dark pacts that may help you. If you wanna walk that path, though.

In better news, here's the potion menu!

MENU

Grink Rak....15 (+5 intitative for 3 combats, two attacks in a row once per combat, 3d6 damage)

Small Health Potion....35 (heals 25 hp)
Large Health Potion.....60 (heals 50hp)
Mana Potion....60 (restores 120 mana)
Glowbottle.....50 (shake to illuminate an area, shake twice to shut it off. 10 Hours of use.)
Boomflask.....30 (firey explosion, does 40 damage that ignores armour)
Cloudjar.....30 (smoke bomb. Allows you to escape combat or lowers opponents accuracy for 2 rounds)
Burnsauce.....35 (coat on melee weapons, does double damage for next 4 combats)

I mean prudemagy from the latin 'prudens' meaning sensible, wise cautious or prudent.

It's basically boring safe but incredibly applicable magic.

Summoning food. Cleaning clothes. Summoning a floating bubble to carry your stuff. Summoning a ladder. That sort of thing. They are wizards that tend to get made fun of, but society needs them, and they are so very sensible.

Unsurpisingly, they prefer to be called 'practomagi' or'utility wizards' but it's not catching on.

QM: Okay, I could be reading this wrong, but a lot of people seem to be angling for the baron next. I gotta go to the shops, so this is a good time to come to a consensus over stuff you wanna get from him amongst yourselves.

Remember, you can suggest stuff not on the list and the baron might have it! He's more of a junk /furniture guy, not a weaponry guy. Anyways, back to the game.

"The fulton moth is a biological oddity. It is incestuous and in the case of the male, horrifically short lived. When you purchase fulton moths, you purchase a female and one egg. The female stays on your ship. The egg, if thrown or broken on anything up to a medium sized man, will cause the male to hatch, instantly grow to maturity, grip whatever is closest to it and then fly back to the female. It will drop what it is carrying once it sees her, mate with her and then expire. In 24 hours, she will lay another egg and the cycle continues."

As for the jacket, I'm not on board with it, don't know if our girlfriend would appreciate we sending gifts to other girls, unless we buy somethings for the others too to make it more friendly.
Gilcrest could use a new outfit for exemple
>>
>>3834428

>>
>>3834421
>haremfag
Whuh? What did I even do?
>>
>>3834428
It's a friendly gift, no intention for romantic relationship. And taking care of the pilot of our ship is important. And hey, maybe if we become friends we could talk her into joining the exploration party.
>>
>>3834432
Dude, don't get philosofical, if you are dating a girl and she suddenly started giving gifts to a hot dude at your workplace that you met very recently, way too recebtly to be actual friends, you'd be at least suspicious right? Considering you both just recently hook up too

But hey, maybe she won't mind, and if we are giving the pilot sometbing we might as well bring gifts to the rest of the crew, like the coffee for Surrey, a new knife for Jones and a cool outfit for when Gilcrest is off the clock so he doesn't walk around as a janitor everywhere
>>
>>3834440
Yeah, we can buy something cool for Gilcrest. Though Jones already got meat from our new recruit, and Surrey probably has some specific preferences for her coffee that we don't know of yet.
>>
>>3834440
I wouldn't be that insecure about it, especially in the context of our workplace and our background.
CF said a haremroute would be possible so I don't want to limit any actions that has romantic innuendos.

Surrey has a specific she wants and she told us, we can just grab that, and as for jones, the meat is for the crew, not only him, a nice knife would be a nice gift

Fellas, chill. Harem-no harem isn't a big enough deal to sour the rest ot the quest arguing over. For my two cents, I don't think buying a new jacket for an employee who complains about being cold is any more romantic than, say, getting an adjustable chair for an employee who complains about backache. It's just being a good boss.
Besides, CF has said we don't have to be on a hair trigger about this kinda stuff, HB's done enough flirting herself that she probably won't be insecure about us buying someone something out of utility.
>>

QM: Quick things before work.

Buying a jacket for Lumsden wouldn't piss anyone off, but it's also unnecessary. Lumsden's comment about wantingto be somewhere warmer was just a passing comment to pique interest in her not wearing the sweater on her waist and to plant the idea that you can move to other parts of the globe.

The servent outfit is a maid outfit, and HB wont be angry to wear it, so long as you don't enjoy pretending she's your servant too much.

The SILVER LINING doesnt have a landing gear, there is a small lake near KIANI FOREST - that's where you landed.

"The purchase, I am sure would be taken up with the owners of ZAKUB farm, owners of this feeding paddock. I could not tell you the cost, nor if they can teach you to ride."

WALKER glances at you.

"I can tell by your clothes and your posture, you would ride straight and true, the moment you tried, Joey Donuts."

>"I can't help but notice the armor, are you a knight of some kind?

"I am a soldier. Some call us barbarians and relics from a bygone age, but as I see it - this world still needs us. Like it or not. I trained at the KUWABARA BASTION up in the Orkish islands. Every soldier picks their weapon and their path. The path of honour - wherein they wear honour pattern armour or the path of vigilance wherein they wear a custom made tank suit. WHich is what you are seeing now. There are many like it, but this tank suit is mine."

" The vanguards are people of a bigger institution, leather clad and uniform. Once a soldier is trained they must still find their purpose. Certainly, many of them form guard companies or become adventurers. Protection. Private security. But nothing is set. We pick this life because it is what we feel called to. There is no guaranteed work for us. Not any more. I say this without bitterness. I do not doubt my path."

WALKER winces slightly.

"Never 'jimjams'"

>"I found this note on a Gopnik in Kiani Forest. It sounds like a troll named Edgewater is planning some trouble. He's not going to get the money, but I thought whomever was taking care of this herd should know. "

Walker reads the note.

"I cannot leave this post. If I must face Edgewater down as he attempts to take this town then so be it."

"Aaaah. She's YOUR goblin! I did wonder about that. Explains a lot. Actually, I am glad to say I believe we can help each other out. You see, I forged these weapons..."

GOMMERSAL lays out a fine beaten and folded machete, a black iron meat cleaver and a series of ring handled piercing skewers.

"All of them, fine weapons. But see? I got my sizings and ratios wrong. The handles on the blades and the rings on the skewers are too small. Impossible to hold in ternion hands. Useless to non goblins. But I can't just give them away or throw them out. I will give ALL of them to you for 200g. It will improve not just her base damage but ALL of her LIMIT BREAKS. QM: the handle is too small for you, sadly.

>And for me? Do you have anything better than this that I can handle? *shows crowbar* or anyway to make it more deadly?

GOMMERSAL checks the crowbar.

"I'm afraid I decently sold my last vaguely exotic weaponry just today. But I have some fine swords and axes."

GOMMERSAL traces his fingers along the bar.

"Perhaps more your speed - I can superheat this and reforge it with a few extra ingredients. It would be like if enchanting was real. I can put some hud granules and some distilled burnsauce into the very iron of this bar. It's temporary - but it will only set you back a cool 50 and with this upgrade you will do more damage AND ignore 7 points of armour."

GOMMERSAL notices the revolver you have.

"Fine weapon! Damned if it isn't one of mine. Hard to improve upon but I can sell you speed loader for it. That will make 1 reload a free action. Lets you keep your turn. I have lots of ammo for it, naturally."

GOMMERSAL places three axes on to the table.

The first is a small hatchet, forged from one piece of black metal. Leather has been wrapped around it to form a handle.

"Powerful for its size and easy to conceal. I don't imagine this axe will do much more damage than a crowbar, but it may have appreciable versatility. Also, there is a one in 3 chance it'll do bleed damage. Bleed damage ignores armour. 100g."

He moves onto a two handed axe with a blade so large it acts as a hand guard.

"The bisector. Cumbersome and space consuming but heavy enough to ignore some armour. If you ever get to 40% health you can perform a unique LIMIT BREAK with it. A fine weapon for the beefier soldier. 300g"

He hesitantly uncovers an ornate wooden and brass breach loader, 2 shot heavy pistol with an extended stock and axe blade on the barrel.

"The KICK-AXE. Takes unique cartridges, that are nearly and inch wide. Its a gun. It an axe, and fire a shot as you strike someone, the heat from the barrel vents directly into the blade, super heating it and making it vibrate. One of the finest examples of post-war orkish weapon smithing in existence."
>>
>>3838778
Could the bisector be used as a monopod and would that have an effect on handling rifles or muskets?
>>
>>3838778
I don't think we have money for the last one right?

can we use the bisector with our current strenght? having a limit break would be nice, if we can't use it grab the tiny one and be done with it, let's check on the girls
>>
>>3838780
QM: I imagine so, yes. But mot of the time, your accuracy will be fine anyways.

You presently have 225g
>>
>>3838782
Shit, short out of cash, buy nothing for now then and thank him.

Let'd visit the girl's table and present HB with some new blades

"Sup uno, think you can give a home for these poor stray blades I picked up?"
>>
>>3838778
Eh, pass. Stats for hatchet are mediocre, and we usually use melee for finishing off opponents, so bleed effect is not that useful.
>>
>>3838778
Pass on the axes for now. Bisector might be an interesting purchase if we use it after a Wrack, but for right now I think we're ok.

>>3838783

>>
>>3838778
I think buy the hatchet for now, we should still have enough money for it and we can probabley make up the 100g just for the bleed damage
>>
>>3838892
Dude, we're only using melee as a finisher, there's no point in bleed damage.
>>
>>3838897
It’s good to have options, 1/3 armor ignore for a 100g is worth it. There could be a chance of high magic resist enemies. It’s not a bad investment and it’s practically a step above the old crowbar.
>>
>>3838903
My main concern with it is it's got less utility than the crowbar, given we can't use it to bust things open or break into places. Given we're not gonna carry around both I dunno if it's a good tradeoff.
>>
>>3838778
Let's stop wasting time with axes. We already have a melee weapon/tool, a ranged weapon, and magic. If we need any more versatility we can trust our party members with it, there's nothing that hand axe can do that HB can't. Let's not overburden ourselves trying to do everything.
>>
>>3838909
Agreed, as our immediate big threat is a Troll, and they're not exactly known for being haemophiliacs, bleeding's not a particulrly beneficial effect in the near-future.
>>
>>3838911
>>3838915
I mean it's only a hundred and it has it's benefits no harm in buying it just in case.
>>
>>3838930
It's almost half our current funds. I say we've spent enough for today to waste it in something we're never likely to actually use.
>>
>>3838933
I have to agree with this.

Let's ramp back on the spending, go knock over the guy's base, and taunt him when he comes back about having already spent all his money.
>>
>>3838933
>>3838942
From what I can tell from the encounters we get loads from the loots that would easily pay off the one hundred, It's really not that much. There may be specific uses for the compact axe in the woodlands. I'm just saying since it's there we're here to prep as much as possible we might as well get it instead of being needlessly frugal. Unless the sentimental value of using the crowbar overrules all things.
>>
>>3838972
we just got an upgrade for the crowbar, so the hatchet's not really that useful. there are better used for that hundred, leave the woodcutting for Highball's new machete.
>>
>>3839090
agreed. I think we've bought all we can. I'd like to stuff what we have remaining into the safe and move on.
>>
even if we don't buy now, we can save money for that awesome bisector or the axe gun that was pretty cool too, let's just get more money from the troll
>>
>>3838972
I'm not really big on the crowbar, but we already paid to enhance it (I woke up too late to stop them). No sense in taking up space for two melee weapons, and as a tool it can't do anything we/HB can't do some other way.
Also, we have employees, keeping some money to be able to make at least a token payment is not "being needlessly frugal"; if anything, spending everything because you think we'll get it back from loot is kinda reckless.

>>3839123
Joey's a mage. A pretty squishy one, at that; even if we're slowly getting gains it'll take a long time before he can be an effective melee fighter. But he's a MAGE. Why are we even considering all this anyway? This isn't, and shouldn't be, his forte.

Let's just move on.
>>
>>3839133
and? if we can use it let's useit, it will be fun dude, of course magic is the main go and the gun our backup, but having some cool melee with a limit break should not get in the way of things.

anyway, nothing we can do about it for now too, we don't have the money for the cool stuff so wecan check later or in another store

You walk over to HIGHBALL and LUMSDEN. Cooly ordering a wine mixed with vodka from MORDEN, who shoots you a repulsed look but complies.

HIGHBALL tosses some coin to MORDEN

"On me"

You give the black iron cleaver a toss through the air, you mess up catching its handle but manage to grab the blunt side of it and hold it at arms length, so you effectively present the handle of it HIGHBALL. By sheer miracle, you were pretty smooth, but you don't feel like pressing your luck.

HIGHBALL is delighted by the blades and wolf whistles at them before admiring her reflection in the machete.

She pulls out a single hair and drops it on the machete, cutting it in half.

"This is the bees knees, baby."

She beams at you.

"Glad I already got you something..."

Qm: I have an HB outfit suggestion, a special vest for sneaking, made with sound absorbing fabric, basically gobling kunoichi.

Bonuses: + sneaking and scouting, + evasion

Disadvantages: it does not protect well, in fact you take extra damage in it so avoid fights, the fabric is stretched and very fragile, slashing damage has a high chance of ripping it open, ruining the suit and negating its bonuses until repaired by a professional.

As reference I was thinking Taki from Soul Calibur, a form fitting vest with arm and leg protections and maybe a mask covering the mouth

"Trolls have been reverse engineering recent ternion inventions to use for themselves. Big troll sized handguns. I dunno if they have any steeds or vehicles that they can use yet. A troll is fast on foot, but we're still talking days, not hours. Pretty sure."

HIGHBALL looks around. She sneaks up to the door to the back room and presses her ear against it, giggling.. MORDEN gives her a patient look , clicks his fingers and point her away from the door. She returns to your table.

>"Lumsden, who would you put your money on in a fight, an ork soldier in a tank suit, or a troll?"

LUMSDEN splits a walnut shell between her index and middle finger.

"I wore 'honour' armour back in my day, not a tank suit but I HAVE defeated trolls with only a healer and some potions when I was in my prime. Similarly I have seen a single troll destroy multiple tank suited enemies. Sad fact is, it depends on the soldier. It depends on the troll. Even something like a baton, in the hands of a troll...it's like being hit with battering ram."

>If the cherry has a stem, try tying it in a knot with our tongue

It doesn't, sadly.

You see HIGHBALL spit another stem into a pile of about 6. All tied in bows.

>"To us? Don't you sweat it! One or two trolls won't be a problem let's keep the momentum up. It's not like they have an entire fleet out there coming for us. It'll be easy!"

"That's true. The other guys might, but I guess that's a problem for later."

LUMSDEN chews on some walnuts. Then frowns. She forgot how much she hates them.

"I've seen him around town for a while, yeah. Can't see what we'd have to offer. I dunno. Maybe we could swap stories but...it's not like we have anything to teach each other."

LUMSDEN thinks.

"How could you tell if he's an ork?"

"Well, historically ALL the soldier camps were in the orkish lands. That's changed now, obviously but they would still be the oldest ones. I guess there's some prestige to that."

>Hey HB, you gotta teach me that" point to the cherry stems

HIGHBALL *click click* s at you.

>"So, who's banging the *air quotes* gentle barmaid?"

HIGHBALL waves down for a whiskey and soda with lime in it.

"Oh, Bugsy and Thighs are in there with her."

"It's not a big deal, I was just wondering how you figured it out. Biggest person I know is human."

LUMSDEN scoffs

"Riiight. with all of this?"

LUMSDEN pokes herself in the belly.

LUMSDEN nods, drinking a water this time.

"Yeah, basically. Chest armour, groin protection, sometimes a loin cloth, forearms, shin guards, shoulders and a big hooded cloak to stalk around in. It is for those who seek honour and ferocity in battle. Tank suits wearers are like the shepherds. Honour armour is for the guard dogs."

>>3840401
This ain't as smooth as you seem to think it is

Anyway, let's get a-moving. Sooner we get there, more time there is for looting and trapsetting, plus exploring the town(?) round those parts.

>>3840407
This, she's seen us fight the most so might have an idea what's best.
>>
>>3840410
I was just trying to salvage that to prevent us from compliment another girls tights in front of HB, I don't think she would mind but its important to reinforce her number one status
>>
>>3840410
It's to boost Ludsmen self esteem. Not to make her feel washed up.
>>
>>3840411
She's not that insecure. And you can say that like a complimentary manner. This is kinda what I meant by limiting dialogue just to keep even with HB.
>>
>>3840411
>>3840413
I'll be straight, in my opinion "rockin' thunder thighs" is a weird n slightly uncomfortable thing to say in general and is best avoided, hence why people weren't about it the first time. >>3840419 is right in that we don't need to be walking on eggshells with that kinda thing, but still, broadly trying not to say dumb shit is in our best interest.
>>
>>3840430
not saying dumb shit is the right path, I agree anon.
we did plenty of that already on previous occasions, we should learn a little from that kek
>>
>>3840441
there's not really anything bad about it beside it complimenting her thighs.
>>
>>3840486
Anon in what universe is 'complimenting someone's thighs', not only someone who we don't actually know that well or for that long but also someone who has *literally just told us* they're self-conscious about their weight, not a really strange and unpleasant thing to do? Also, remember 'thunder thighs' specifically is taken as an insult as much as a compliment, if not more.
>>
>>3840397
don't say this.
>>
>>3840532
Well an actual person wouldn't automatically get offended by it, she never "literally" told us. We also asked her about that thigh competition and she was very reciprocative about the whole thing baring no ire on us. I think some anon's deal with it is because it was seen as "cheating" with HB.
>>
QM: I might skip over the whole thunder thighs thing. Gonna do a proper update after work alright? Sorry this got a little out of hand.
>>
>>3840745
is cool.
>>
>>3840588
>Well an actual person wouldn't automatically get offended by it
no, an actual person would get turbo offended by this. Thunder thighs is 100% an insult.
>>
>>3840754
"Offended" is the wrong word. "Creeped out" is more likely. And that's not even taking into account that Joe's her boss.

>>3840745
That sounds great, thanks.
>>
>>3840760
Creeped out is a subset of offended.
>>
Lets not mention anymore the tight thing and move along. Everything is gonna be fine and at the end of the day we will have a sexy goblin with us.
>>
>>3840745
Thank God, please do. Petition to ban Joey from ever using the phrase 'thunder thighs'. Eurgh.

>>3840754
>>3840760
In this case, probably both. Many levels of not a good move.

>>3840776
Yeah, you're right. Kinda a dumb argument, but there we are, time to move on.
>>
These haremfags better not make us cheat on our girl. Centrefield bro, the harem shit will make everyone who's not into it unhappy. Meanwhile if you keep it devoted to best girl then nobody's uphappy, you have most the people happy and the low populus harem fags slightly disappointed.
>>
>>3840835
>Thank God, please do. Petition to ban Joey from ever using the phrase 'thunder thighs'. Eurgh.
No, we might need to quip it at a skinny bitch villainess who is waaaaay too vain and easily enraged by saying she's fat
>>
>>3840839
Ok, fair, let's save it form someone we WANT to offend and move on.
>>
>>3840838
Personal views aside, it's a difficult one. On the one hand, CF's said we can basically do what we want within reason, so anons who want a harem are technically in their rights to go for it. On the other hand, chief's HEAVILY heavily hinted that it's not gonna work. Either way, I don't really wanna have to have massive arguments about it every thread.

>>3840839
Even then, it's low hanging fruit, I feel like we can do better. Aim high, anon!
>>
Lets not discuss the harem thing ever again. Every anon wants something different. Lets just each support what we want and enjoy the wild ride of chaos and see where it takes us.
>>
>>3841021
agreed. Tired of these discussions.
>>
>>3840754
>>3840838
>>3840839
My problem with it is that anon's would try to veto every convo-interaction on another anon's post. I don't see people trying to change another person's intent besides the anti-harem fags just because they personally think one post is insulting even though there are a plethora of other personalities that think otherwise.
Also LUDSMEN is probably upset over her past party and THAT'S why she got depressed and gained weight not because of being a bit chubby she's beating herself up because she thinks she's at fault, and since it's a touchy subject about her party saying "thunder thighs" wouldn't affect her like some sort of trauma.
>>
>>3841021
>>3841034
yeah, alright.
>>
>>3841107
It's not traumatic, but it sure as hell ain't polite.
>>
>>3841348
this. But can we move on please?
>>
>>3840745
I vote to just fade to black and return to the ship. We seem not to have more interesting dialog for HB and Lumsden. We seem to be lost in thoughts about harems and thunder thighs (I laugh imagining Joey drooling over the glass).

We can assume we waited the 20 mins for Burstock and Gillcrest to come out while making silly chit-chat and drinking weird cocktails.
>>
>>3841445
I wanted to see after glow Burstock though.
>>
>>3840745
You don’t have to please everyone CF the characters are yours not the thread’s besides Joey. So they shouldn’t be able to dictate how a character would react to things Joey would say to them. I just dislike the policing faggotry going on.
>>
I don't get why people can't be satisfied writing their own fan fiction smut and instead insist on trying to force the result that even the QM themself says will make the characters unhappy.
>>
>>3841527
The argument wasn’t if Ludsmen would be unhappy but the thread thinking she would be. It was a simple enough comment to be responded in a one off response or something a bit more. But I guess Joey has a tendancy for having intellectual debates on thighs in his head.
>>
QM: Hokay, I've given this some thought. First and foremost I really want this to still be fun. I apologise that this little bit seems not to have been.

Here's what I think I'm gonna do. Remember a few threads back and I did that fallout style text like:

>1. That's a great idea
>2. Tell me more about trolls. You said you've fought them
>3. Why are your thighs so big?
>4.[kidney punch]
>5. [Insert own]

This has two uses. It means that I can subtly help you remember whats going on but you can also put forth your own ideas of what to say still. If your suggestion garners support, it'll be easier for me to keep track of !

Even if the suggestion is one that WILL have negative consequences I want you to be able to make it.

I hesitated here because I really couldn't tell if people wanted to say this or not. It seemed like a back and forth split.

What say you?

I want this to be fun, i want you to have freedom and stand by your actions. I realise I can't please everyone, but I feel like this might do better.
>>
>>3841648
This sounds like a good idea, far as I can see - it's worked pretty well in other quests I've seen, certainly.
>>
>>3841648
What were we doing again? I lost track of it because of that weird argument.
>>
>>3841648
It would probably soothe tempers about dialogue options if we're all voting for options as opposed to saying everything and then try to vote against certain posts. I'm alright with the change.
>>
>5. [Insert own]
>>3840403
Gilcrest and Burstock, makes sense. Part of me was hoping to hear a sordid tale about Jones or Surrey, though.

>"Gilcrest and Burstock, makes sense. Part of me was hoping to hear a sordid tale about Jones or Surrey, though."

HIGHBALL muses on this, slurping her drink loudly.

"To me, and I might be over noodling this, an axe or a sword says to folks 'I'm a fighter! A warrior! QM: Your crowbar will be ready to go, along with all of your baron purchases once you definitely leave DUNNLIVIN, whether that's right now or in several in-game hours is up to you. SO long as SCADAM is the next place you go, EDGEWATER will not beat you back there. No even.

Leaving DUNNLIVIN will mark the end of this thread, as I still need to draw all the new furniture sprites, and some attack sprites. But you don't need to rush. I'm not gonna fuck you on this.

She lowers her voice, smiling

"yes."

She leans back in her chair, running her hands through her hair.

"Even tough I said I was done with it - the life. I couldn't part with it. Or my weapons. I didn't want to see them everyday...but I couldn't just give them up. That and soldier armour is custom made. Despite its engineering it has limited resale value."

QM: I meant first to two after the initial suggestion, sorry I wasn't clear again. It's okay you got in. Because there seems to be double voting happening for the other option.

"No, no other troll.Boss got many thug, gopnik and basehead. Some gopnik been made into Nowl, but maybe boss travel with all of those. Boss also got wizard -REAL WIZARD- not basehead who work for him"

Another speaks up

"Boss keep different dobycha in different building in town. Is ruined town you see. Boss and us gopnik fucked it up. Took over. Not kill everyone, though. Got many hostage. Good for keeping away vanguard and heros.. Try to blow up town or fire into it? Hit hostage."

"Boss not got many trap. Keeps all explosives and his pushka on him at all times. But I heard other gopnik say he has a green slime."

The first gopnik turns back to him

KRYCHEK speaks up

"No. Not think so. I see people put many salt down there only. Salt not so valuable these day."

PAVEL muses

"Maybe we get into salt business. Start small."

KRYCHEK nods.

"Salt IS very small. If only have one salt - can barely see it."

SALA slaps them both on the back of the head.

>Sounds like a plan, if we hit it from that corner we should be able to get in without stumbling across too many baseheads.

SALA notices this

"Hey speaking of basehead. You watch your step if you go anywhere close to camp here. Many gopnik getting scared of folks like you. Drinking too much snakewater."

KRYCHEK shakes his head.
"No good."

>Cool thing guys, have some coins and start some business somewhere.

The gopniks actually look a little surprised as you hand them 15 gold each. PAVEL pats you on the shoulder.

"This is new beginning for us maybe."

SALA rolls her eyes.

HIGHBALL nods.
Yeah. Just the once. We just ran from it, truth be told. We tried using fire on it - but if the slime is large enough it just smothers the fire. Slashing weapons are no good. Bashing weapons are useless. Maybe magic works?"[/b]

BURSTOCK breathes in through their teeth

"It's not much better. But it can slow it down. The good news is, it's only horribly caustic when it wants to be, but even when it's inert, it can still clobber or suffocate. If we don't have to encounter it - let's not."

>" I didn't wan't to sound dumb in front of the gopniks but....what the hell is a basehead?"

BURSTOCK pats your arm.

"That ain't dumb, cochise. Baseheads are a big city or deep wilds sort of thing. You ain't really lived in either."

HIGHBALL chimes in

"May as well give you the straight dope in the right order. SNAKEWATER is some of the worst sauce around. The only way to make it is to basically liquefy a whole ophiachan. There are other ingredients as well, but that's the core of it."

BURSTOCK leans over and whispers
"Ophiachans are snake people"

You shoot her a slight look. You knew that much.

HIGHBALL continues

"Its effects are almost as nasty as the way it's made. It messes with your body makes you channel mana even if you usually can't. Messes with your dome."

"Put simply. It means goblins and orks and people utterly untrained at magic can temporarily use it. Assuming it doesn't kill them (and it often does) drinking snakewater means they know a single sphere spell for 30 minutes. But they get hooked on it. Soon, it's all they drink. They just drink snake water, and health potions and mana potions. All at once as a vile concoction."

"Their peepers stop working. Then their eyes. They shamble around drooling and moaning - like zombies. And if they get a whiff of potions - or worse...a wizard?"

BURSTOCK gnashes her teeth near your ear.

"And that's a basehead."

You manage not to, any time BURSTOCK leans close, her chest smacks into you. It's not really sexual, though. They're just kinda there. She doesn't seem to notice when she hits things.

>"So, we are walking in a drug fiends den, they are all with the munchies and me and Burstock are the main dish? Got it, I would like to carpet bomb the place but they got hostages, and if so destroy the buildings we will have homeless hostages"

HIGHBALL nods

"Loot is always what it's about but I gotta say. The more people we leave alive the better. Doubt they got any scratch left but they're probably the original residents of the town. Be good to have a small town that owes us one."

BURSTOCK nods.

"We stop Edgewater, we'll have TWO towns lining up to give us free beer. Probably just that, though. They still gotta make a living."

>" any Idea what works best on them? Should I watch out not to use magic or they die like anything else?"

BURSTOCK stretches

"Keep your distance full stop. Half the time when a base head dies it kinda explodes. Lightning and bone shards. Trouble is, depending on the spell they have - they're gonna be trying to get close most of the time."

That really goes with our overconfident zoolander "male model" attitude of Joey.

>"Loot is always what it's about but I gotta say. The more people we leave alive the better. Doubt they got any scratch left but they're probably the original residents of the town.
Cool, partner. We take Edgewater and the loot and leave the others. We also take the dangerous nowl... I think it is dangerous for the town.

Tactics:
I think the upper arrow takes us to all the loot, we can try to take Edgewater first.

For small targets such as baseheads and gopniks we can try to reduce casualties:

We can probably ignore the gopnik house (1 & 4) ad the thug house (2).

immobilize some (HB's red panic + Burstock body betrayal) intimidate others and try to mana drain to faint some baseheads.

We should probably clean the town of the dangerous stuff like the nowl, the slime and perhaps the wizard.

Additionally, we should talk to Mike and Richter to know which are their abilities to know who to take with us.
>>
>>3845328
Liking this, although I don't wanna get in over our heads with the slime, sounds like people more powerful than us couldn't take it. Worth asking the others about, see if they got any more experience with em.

I dunno if we wanna ignore the gopnik and thug houses completely on account of the fact that there's probably gonna be hostages inside. I agree that they're lower priority though.

As a route, I propose we whack the smithy as quiet as possible first so they can't rearm if we get spotted, then circle round the outside to either the wash house for the loot or Edgewater's if we can set up the traps without alerting anyone. Depending on who we meet we either camp up and wait for the troll (which would take a while) or try and clear out the rest of the town (which might be difficult).
>>
>>3844865
>dynamite
Sounds dangerous, blowing up explosive stuff. Not to mention, bullets are expensive enough to be loot (and we use a gun as main weapon), I dunno if we want to just blow them up.

That sounded weird.

You will find that as you improve as a leader and develop a bond with people you can just tell where they are at with their HP and MANA. That will just take time. Leisure activities together can help you get to know someone."

>And hey, don't knock ketchup. Condiment of the people

"Ketchup is a fine thing. Good on hamburgers, omelette rice - you name it. But it's too sweet and thick. It interferes with the quintessential chip sandwich experience."

BURSTOCK is a grel, but her chip sensibilities definitely lean towards her elvish side you feel.

"I've always liked mine with mayonaise or tartare sauce, personally."

BURSTOCK widens her eyes at HIGHBALL but smiles.

"Still better than what the mogwomps do.."

As you approach the ship, MIKE is patting down the soft sand near the oceans edge with an entrenching tool. He seems to have finished burying someone. He makes a gesture over the grave.

Before you can ask, he interjects, apparently having been eavesdropping unintentionally.

"The mogwomps innovation to combine cheesey fries and gravy fries into one dish is an squired taste. It sounds odd - but it is quite exceptional."

HIGHBALL and BURSTOCK both shake their heads.

MIKE dusts off his hands and leans toward you.

"Joonda, this is probably nothing but earlier a wild boar tried to get aboard this ship. I shot it through the eye, killing it instantly but upon dying it turned into a naked grel."

He stares at you a moment.

"Is this in any way out of the ordinary for your trips to this town?"

BURSTOCK gets a dark look

"That or they messed up...I've heard of tranmog potions being force fed to people as a form of punishment..."

MIKE lowers and shakes his head.

"That's screwed."

"I thought I recognised your ship. Any time we have not received correspondence from someone we are expecting it from, we put operatives in every major and minor settlement. We then approach the client inconspicuously to speak to them in their ship or hotel room. The form of a wild boar is one I had assumed previously when I rendezvoused with Alan Chesapeake. Not a super unusual creature, but uncommon enough to the town that it was clearly me. I was used to being let aboard, so that we could discuss what was to happen next."

DIRTBAG eyes MIKE

>What do they know abou us?
"If we are to assume I currently have the most up to date information of anyone in my organisation..."

DIRTBAG looks around the room.

"Fuck all. I recognise none of you."

>Where are they right now?

"The camp behind the lighthouse. Near the old temple of Delag. On the island east of here."

>How many are they?
"More than there are of you, boy."

The BARON grits his teeth and DIRTBAG yelps in pain as lightning crackles through his body.

"D...Dozens at the camp. Hundred on these islands. THOUSANDS around the Garlands..."

>What is their next location or plan?

"Unknown. The amount of transmogs we have been ordering...I assume... mas infiltration of a major city. Maybe start small. Hit one of the college towns."

>What is your favorite color?

DIRTBAG looks at HIGHBALL and grins

"I'm partial to green, honestly."

We could disguise as him and ambush the other scout or tell them the delivery will be delayed for a few weeks to buy us time.

So here's something I've been thinking. The ship is Lumsden's, right? So if would got out that Chesapeake was offed by the Vanguard (and half the crew was killed by an escaping prisoner), there's no reason for them to actually expect the ship to stay in the same business, right?

Chesapeak gave us a document overfull control of the business, they dont know about that so they send in a scout. If they find out the business no longer brings in transmog they’d want to cover up it up as soon as possible.

"Sure thing, brain floss."

>“Do you have any friends or loved ones that might care of your death?”

DIRTBAG thinks.

"Doubtless, my comrades will mourn the loss of one of their own. If my family still care about me, it merely confirms that they are fools."

>Well, I'm out of useful questions. Let's wrap this up and figure out what we're doing with this dead guy

THE BARON speaks up.

"Best you let me thrall him up, kid. If we keep his body too fresh one of his necromancer buddies might be able to get answers from him - same as you're doing now. So long as he's one of my boys, they can't do that."

DIRTBAG looks at the Baron

"They would do this, yes. There is still a chance that my spirit will manifest as a draugr and tell them anyway."

The BARON scoffs.

"That's a coinflip, dirtbag. If your ghost shows up anywhere near my shop you're in for some shock treatment."

DIRTBAG shrugs

"I suppose we'll see."

HIGHBALL pipes up

"Why is are you keeping such close tabs on us, anyhow? If we don't have your sauce, we don't have it, right? Find someone else to supply you with your skazzy junk."

DIRTBAG looks slightly surprised

"That would be because we had already paid for half our shipment upfront. 5000 gold is a lot. We wanted to make sure Alan Chesapeake wasn't planning on scamming us."
>>
>>3856557
>"That would be because we had already paid for half our shipment upfront. 5000 gold is a lot. We wanted to make sure Alan Chesapeake wasn't planning on scamming us."
Well, he was. He bailed from the ship and everything. If it helps any, a Vanguard lady killed him. Too bad she looted his corpse, tho.
>>

>>
>>3856768
>Well, he was. He bailed from the ship and everything. If it helps any, a Vanguard lady killed him. Too bad she looted his corpse, tho.
Lets not confirm that our ship was Alan's. Actually, lets not even give him any more info in case he manifests as a draugr.

>Best you let me thrall him up, kid.

>>
>>3857060

I think at this point we're waaaay past the point where he's not sure, we've said more than enough to confirm that. I'd rather give them another target. Maybe just mention that he bailed and say nothing about the Vanguard?
>>
Agree with telling him that Chesapeake jumped off the ship and took their money with him, and was later found shot to death in the forest with the money missing. Let him tell them that if he comes back, he doesn't need to know a Vanguard did it.
>>
>>3857362
>and was later found shot to death in the forest with the money missing
actually, let's not even tell them that part, if they want to know what happened after he left they'll have to figure it out the hard way (and buy us more time in the process)
>>

>>3857415
>>3857504
Ok, this all works. Of course, best case scenario, the guy never gets to tell anyone shit, but it's still good to get our story straight.
If possible, I'd like to pretend we're just a guy who hired Lumsden (and some her crewmates) after Chesapeake's left them in the lurch and have nothing to do with his previous operation; I feel that ship has sailed with this guy since we told him way too much, but we may get to claim that next time we find one of these guys.
>>
>>3856557
>>3858413
Technically, CHESAPEAKE and the Sustainable Margins owes the gold. Not Joenuts and the Silver Lining. We may have to consider repainting the ship.
>>
>>3858428
This argument really only works in a court setting. Since we're dealing with terrorists and criminals, technicalities aren't really gonna protect us. Because they'll just try to kill us.
>>
>>3858440
Death wipes away all debts. Chesapeake owed the money, we don't, if they want we can balance the ledger with death on their side too but it's really not our problem.
>>
The point is that they will assuredly consider it our problem since this ship and this crew could have fulfilled the order but didn't, then killed one of them.
>>
>>3858756
they don't know that. We'll just say that Chesapeake ran away without telling us anything, and what do you mean you had some guy contact us? Maybe he ran into some of those Gobbnicks that were working for the troll? Oh you didn't know about the troll, let me tell you about the troll.

You explain that Alan Chesapeake bailed, took their down payment and you have no idea where he went.

HIGHBALL chimes in:

"He told me he was going to be camping out in DUNNLIVIN forest. Just slightly north of the entrance. He said 'no way those idiots will have the guts to face me. None of their stupid, throwback weapons are any match for what I got. They are small time.' It was pretty brazen."

BURSTCOK looks puzzled at HIGHBALL

DIRTBAG frowns

"That sounds like him."

He turns back to you.

"We will most likely split our scouts an interrogators between you and Chesapeake. Until we get our gold or our potions. You will be easier to find than him."
>>
>>3859982
Hmm. I wonder why Burstcok's so surprised about what Highball said? She's just playing along with what we said to create a scenario where it could conceivably be more likely for these goons to go after Chesapeake than ourselves, regardless of how likely they are to actually succeed in doing so.

THE BARON nods at you, the glow fades from his eyes and his hand phases out from between DIRTBAG's shoulder blades. DIRTBAG slumps back into being dead.

"Anyone who attack my town is in for some shock treatment." THE BARON comments, casually discarding the corpse behind him.

>Zenji was referred to as a HAC in a previous thread, what does that mean?

HAC stands for Human Animal Cross, an outdated term. Humans were the species best known for intentionally drinking faulty transmog potions but my no means are they the only ones to do it. Many Nowls see the terms as derogatory .

>Chesapeake had pointy ears but referred to himself as a Grel. Did he mod his ears or something?

While the extended, slightly square ear is slightly more common there are many Grels that have point ears also. Maybe a 70/30 split. The clearer give away, is that 95% of grels have red or at least red brown hair, a trait that no other ternion species exhibits. As 100% of trolls have red hair it is seen as bad luck by many even to this day. Times are changing, though. It just means that most grels start with a slightly hindrance on their charm score, no matter how really really goodlooking they are.

By way of example, another character in another story; Uttica Entwhistle is actually meant to be a grel. She just ended up with pointy ears and black hair. These things happen.

>Who's got the highest alcohol tolerance on the Silver Lining? Who drinks the most?

JONEs, when he drinks seems to drink huge amounts at a time. But seems to barely even drink socially the rest of the time.

Given that BURSTOCK drinks neat 80 proof multiple times per day and can easily just heal it out of herself when she needs to, it's a safe bet that she drinks the most.
