After your encounter with the informant, you packed all your stuff, paid what you owed for staying at the cabin (Good-bye 150 bucks) and left Naramatsunai with the girls for good!

Though you made a quick stop at The Flux to inform them about your parting. Only Camilo was there to appease your mild worries about leaving without notice as Laetitia was handling Siske somewhere else. Camilo wished you good luck and said his farewell with a firm handshake and said the place was always open if you wanted to pay a visit or work again. He joked that he sounds more like the owner than the thirsty woman, something you agreed with.

You are currently driving towards the big city of Hamje, where you are going to meet up again with your old friend, Bruce Auburn, in his apartment. It’s a long trip from Naramatsunai to the city. At the pace you’re going, you should be arriving around after sunset.

Maggie and Catastrovania are watching a movie on Cat’s laptop, selected by the carefree girl in the back of the car. They had a little quarrel to decide who picked the movie as Maggie was adamant on picking this time around. They settle their differences with a game of rock- paper-scissors. Unbeknownst to Catastrovania, nobody has been able to defeat Maggie at this simple game once – the grumpy cat even made it a best of 10 and lost every single match. You can still feel her saltiness even now…

But the one who is really salty is you, you’re without a copilot and somewhat bored – it’s not like you can turn your mind off and enjoy driving as it is hard with the movie’s noises and those two chatting up. You can’t even chime in because you don’t know what’s going on…

The movie just ended and they’re finally acknowledging you again! Hooray…

“What a movie it was, right?” Maggie is proud of her choice.
“Nothing extraordinaire, but I enjoy it.” Catastrovania acknowledges. “Are you really a fan of martial arts movies?”
“I know it’s not great, but I kinda really like it.” Maggie responds. “And nah, I just like this one. I can watch like whatever and have fun.”

“Then we should watch this one next!” Catastrovania starts typing something furiously.
“W-Wait, I need to ask Allie somethin’.” Maggie bends forwards towards the front of the car. “Hey Allie, what’s the plan again?”

“We’re not going to sleep in the car, so we’ll find a place we can rent out.” That’s the plan first and foremost.

“Cool. Where? What kind of place?” Maggie is full of questions all of the sudden!
“Yeah, it cannot be in any shape or form worse than the cabin.” Catastrovania butts in.
“She’s right, the cabin was cool. We need to find a place cooler than the cabin!” Maggie agrees. “You know not every cabin has like Wi-Fi, right? And it was by the beach too! A great cabin by the beach with Wi-Fi.”

“Indeed, it will reflect poorly on us if we randomly decide to lower our living standards. How can I face my DISMAL FIENDS OF DARKNESS this way? We’re prideful creatures. I’ve lived this long upholding these values, Alfred. A powerful being like myself is telling you this, you must take this into account.” Catastrovania exclaims as Maggie nods in agreement.
“…” You’re mildly confused by their attitude and pushiness. Every time you spoil them, this backfires. Maybe you should stop...
“Oh look, it’s the city!” Maggie points forwards like you two are completely blind idiots who can’t see straight. She seems in awe, but neither Catastrovania or you give a shit.

You’re finally arriving at the outskirts of Namje, the sun is setting and the lights of a busy city start to shine. You ask both girls to check places where you can rent and if it fit their “standards”, obviously you won’t take that into account – but you need to choose wisely. You’ll probably spend more time here than anywhere else.

What kind of place are you going to rent?

>Rent a small apartment just like yours. 325 Bucks a month counting utilities. Yours was perfect for the modern man, but you have these 2 girls with you…
>Crash on a cheap motel. 40 bucks a day. It’s cheap as in shitty…

“We can get a decent place only if we split the bills.” You want to make sure they know how much it will cost. You’re not going to pay for everything, but maybe with a little help you could.
“I lost the only job I had in a day.” Catastrovania painfully reminds you.
“It’s fiiiine! I’ll find a part-time job or somethin’. Count on me!” Maggie sure sounds reliable.

“Good. The decent sized apartment is around here. Let’s go.” You use your phone to find the apartment. The location being at the edge of Hamje is what makes it cheaper, it shouldn’t have that many tenants anyway.

You feel how slowly your crucial yet obscure ability to drive gets better…

You arrive to the apartment building, it’s really small but neat and tidy, like the owner has been taking good care of this place for years. The building is 2 stories tall and there shouldn’t be more than 6 rooms per floor. Just by the look of it, your previous assumption is right, there aren’t many tenants here.

After haggling the price with the landlord (475 bucks with utilities), just like your dad would do, you successfully rent a new apartment and signed the lease under your name for at least 6 months – maybe you didn’t plan this through correctly, but it’s too late now. You have an apartment at Hamje! It’s a first floor apartment as well, so that’s great, maybe? You’ve always wondered if there is a big difference or not. A quicker exit than the second floor?

Now there’s almost no furniture inside, just a fridge and a couch. There are two rooms, one for the girls and one for you, it has a kitchen and a bigger bathroom than the cabin. This ain’t great, but the place is neat and tidy like the outside building!

“Yay…” Maggie’s attempt to sound enthusiastic falls flat. The place is too empty to gather any other type of reaction.
“We don’t even have a table…” Catastrovania seems let down.
“It was one of the apartments you girls chose.” You remind them.

“You bargained down the price by getting rid of the furniture…” Catastrovania fires back, she sounds more disappointed than mad.
“We were getting mugged, Cat. It was over 1100 bucks for some cheap mattress and some pillows.” If there is someone who knows about getting mugged, it’s the owner of a convenience store. Well, ex-owner…
“And a microwave. And a TV. And chairs. And beds…” Catastrovania sits on the floor of her new home as her new reality dawns on her.
“At least we have internet!” Maggie grabs a random cable she found near the wall. “A-And the parking spot…” Not even Maggie who is used to sleep on the floor can pretend this is good.

Night is falling. Your stuff is basically unpacked!

What do you do now?

(Sorry for the delay.)

“Look, I’m saving us 125 Godorllarydoos here every month. That should count for something.” You clarify because you don’t want to be emotionally manipulated into making the wrong decision here.
“W-Well I expected something better for my NEW DARK ABODE.” Catastrovania doesn’t back down. “But this will suffice for now…”
“Now that’s settled. I need to meet up with Bruce and I want him to meet everyone.”

“You mean Brucy?” Maggie does know him.
“Yes, Bruce.” You emphasize.
“Who’s that?” Catastrovania wonders.
“A friend of mine.”

“I knew that, I was just testing you again.” Catastrovania proclaims, she does this trick quite a lot. “Would he be willing to join our DARK QUEST of VENGEANCE?” Since when is she part of this officially?
“Beats me.” You shrug. He has no reason to join your efforts.
“Ohoho, now Catastrovania Strifaust Morituros IX is officially part of the gang?” Maggie begins her teasing.
“I’m like a high level summon, I aid you just for my own entertainment, and maybe to remind this world about my awesome abilities – but you have no power over me. You’re welcome by the way.” Catastrovania jumps back into character. “Now let’s get moving!” Catastrovania points forwards and leaves her new dark abode.

“I believe we had this conversation before.” You say as you follow Catastrovania outside of your new apartment. Perhaps she wanted to show you her commitment to the team despite her tantrum.

As another poor man from a town in the middle of nowhere, Bruce has only enough money to rent an apartment around the periphery of the city – so he’s not too far from where you are staying. You don’t feel the city atmosphere from here, with the vegetation around and the ominous sounds of bugs – it’s almost like good old Laoling. Now you haven’t entered the city proper, so you keep that in mind.

You give Bruce a call informing him you’re going his way, and you have some guests. He didn’t seem to mind, but knowing him – he felt pressured to not say no.

His apartment is almost the same style as yours, it’s 3 stores bigger and the rooms seem half as big though just by counting the number of doors on each floor. His apartment is in the 4th floor, you knock on the door…

As the door slowly starts creaking and you can make out Bruce’s face from the gap, a playful Maggie jumps in front of the door, only her being visible to the anxious man.

“Hey Brucy! It’s me!” A cheerful Maggie extends her arms in fraternity!
AAAH!” Bruce shrieks and violently closes the door on Maggie’s face.

“…Whoops?” Maggie looks puzzled. Catastrovania turns to you as looks a completely different type of confused than Maggie.

What do you do?

(Got suddenly busy today, sorry for the bad session overall.)

“Maggie, don’t do that.” You move the lively girl back. “Let me call him...”
“Do you think he hates me…? I’ve never seen him scared before.” Maggie realizes something that no person should, her face looks devoid of life like you have seen previously before.
“Y-You just startled him, don’t overthink it – that’s never good…” Sometimes Catastrovania says the right thing. “N-Not that I speak from experience.”

“I thought you were a super old demon or somethin’.” Maggie is now confused.
“Huuh, y-yes! Scaring p-people is so mundane from a creature of the night that you can tell the difference between that and hate! Fufufu…” Catastrovania has something going here.

You take your phone out and do a quick call. It’s better to distract him with the phone than it is to knock the door again, you don’t want him to ignore you. In a quick chat, you reassure him that nothing bad is going to happen – after the call is done, you ask both girls to stand behind you just in case. Seconds later, Bruce opens the door…

“Al...!” Bruce looks like he finally has a moment to rest after hours of jogging.
“Sorry about that.” You apologize immediately in the name of everyone.
“I was the one acting silly, haha…” He still nervous, you don’t remember his anxiety being this bad. Something is up.
“Is it really okay for me to bring guests as well?”

“Y-Yeah.” That wasn’t reassuring, but if Bruce trusts himself, you won’t deny his resolution.
“Bruce, you already know her, this is Maggie.”

“Allie, you don’t need to act like we don’t know each other! R-Right, Brucy?” Maggie is failing at pretending what just happen didn’t affect her.
“…Why are you two together?” It just dawned on him that you and Maggie are here together. It is so strange to him, he didn’t freak out even a little.
“It’s a long story. This other girl is Catastrovania.” You point at Cat.

“P-Put some effort into presenting me!” The moody girl hisses. She wanted to strike a pose but your dull introduction threw her off!
“No.” You dryly respond.

Catastrovania decides to ignore you and puts herself in the spotlight. “Fufufufu~ The name is Catastrovania Strifaust Morituros IX!” Again with icks… Catastrovania strikes a new pose placing one hand over her face. She’s actually playing a song from her phone just for this presentation. “I’m 600 years old and ex-combatant in the Construct Wars and a metahuman beyond your comprehension! Darkness is my way of life. Yes, I’m that cool!”
“…” Again, Bruce is so confused he doesn’t react properly. “Al, what’s going on?”

“It’s a long story.” You pretend Catastrovania’s shenanigans have some sort of explanation. She’s just standing there, waiting for her theme song to end. “Do you want to hear it?”
“Sure.” Bruce seems motivated to hear your bullshit after these moments of confusion. He fully opens his door and lets everyone in.

His apartment reminds you of your old one, small but functional, it makes you wonder where all his fighting game stuff is. Not even a TV inside. Maybe he left them in his parent’s house in Laoling? Looks a tidy place anyway. You all sit on each respective pillow on the ground and wait for Bruce to bring some drinks.

“…Now tell me why Maggie of all people? Like seriously…” Bruce wants to hear the story.
“Hey!” Maggie looks offended.
“You sure you don’t want to ask about Cat’s deal first? She’s the most interesting looking one of the two.” You wonder.
“Hey!” Maggie looks even more offended.

“Fufufu, don’t feel bad, dear Margaret. It is only natural to be enchanted by my presence.” Catastrovania’s ego enlarges with praise.
“W-Whatever…” Maggie pouts.

You tell the whole story from Aleister’s destruction of your store to this point. How the news killed your father, how you decided on revenge, met Maggie and Masen, Wessam’s tape and his dead, how Masen left the team, the part where you allegedly kidnapped Catastrovania.

How you tried to escape Laoling only to be pursuit by Sewel, the night at the creepy but safe hotel in the middle of nowhere, and your stay at Naramatsunai and the attack of various individuals. Also The bar shenanigans and Siske.

Just reminiscing of your pile of rubble makes your anger arise, you don’t show it though.

“Woah…” That’s the best thing that came out Bruce’s mouth after the tale ended. It wasn’t like he didn’t throw some comments during your long speech, but it’s dawning on him the severity of your struggle. “I can see why you wanted to meet to tell me everything…” He looks worried, which is normal for him. “The name Price is familiar somehow.”
“There was some stuff I didn’t know!” Catastrovania paid as much attention as Bruce did. She takes a sip of her glass of soda. “Not as great as my backstory. Wanna hear it?”

Out of the blue, the only painting on the wall in this small apartment violently drops on the ground, it seems the frame didn’t break – but startled everyone but Bruce.

“W-What was that…?” Maggie the scaredy-cat wonders.
“A ghost.” Bruce’s response reeks of resignation. “…What were you saying?”

“What do you mean “just a ghost”?” You address the newly found elephant in the room. You have no idea when it happened, but Maggie is right next to you.
“A ghost. An actual ghost.” Bruce is doing an oval shape with his hands, since when ghosts are eggs? “I’m not joking…”
Fufufu… Don’t tell me neither of you felt it’s presence?” A smug Catastrovania smirks as she looks down on you and Maggie. “How fortunate it must be for you to not be bothered by such noisy specter.”

“You can feel it…?” Bruce is now interested in the crazy cat girl.
“Feel it? I can see it!” Catastrovania proclaims! “It’s right there!” She points to the bookshelf on the wall, then magically a book drops down from there!
AAAAH!” Maggie shrieks in fear from the mildest thing. Catastrovania is still pointing forwards with a smug smile on her face, but you can tell she is petrified.

“Woah! You’re really something special, missy!” Bruce’s eyes radiate hope! How misguided.
“O-Of course, I am…” Catastrovania tries to act cool. “I’m a powerful metahuman after all…” Catastrovania barely believes her own shit.
“What exactly is going on?” You try to go back into the topic.

“This apartment is haunted, haha…” Bruce plays it cool.
“Why are you living in a haunted apartment?”
“’cause it’s cheaper…” Bruce looks down. “I tried to bring someone to exorcise it and keep the lower rent, but nothing worked – hell it got worse. So now I just barely get by, haha…” His laugh is as fake as Catastrovania’s.

“Do you have a pencil and paper? We can try to talk to the ghost.” You propose. Either you or Cat can do this thing!
“Isn’t it like kinda super late? Shouldn’t we go back to our new cool empty apartment?” Maggie wants to run away.
“I can’t leave my friend in peril. This will be a breeze with Cat, right? You’re a medium, basically.”
“O-Of course!” Catastrovania is taking her lies too far, or maybe not. You aren’t sure anymore.

“Thanks, Al...” Bruce takes a deep breath and calms down, a faint smile appears on his face.
“Aww…” Maggie looks trouble, she grabs your arm and whispers. “Y-You won’t let anything bad happen, right?”
You shrug first. “It’s out of my control, really.”

“Allie, you should say “Totally, Maggie, I won’t let anything hurt you” or somethin’!”
“That goes without saying.” You won’t let anyone get hurt on purpose.
“C-Cool…” Maggie looks away for some reason, her cheeks tinted a little red. Bruce has been paying close attention to what everyone has been doing and you can tell how weirded out he is from seeing you and Maggie get along.

“E-Enough chitty chat! We have a séance to perform.” Catastrovania claps angrily and forces you two to separate. She got the paper and pencil from somewhere. Everyone sits around Catastrovania, who is standing on Bruce’s little table.
“O-Okay, missy. What are we supposed to do?” Bruce is excited to be free from this demon.
“Please refer to me as Catastrovania Strifaust Morituros IX!” Catastrovania is in full character.
“I would if I could!” Bruce has bad memory in general.

“First, who of you three will speak directly to this ghost?” Catastrovania wonders.
“A-Aren’t you the medium or some shit? Why would anyone but you do it?!” Maggie is terrified.
“T-That’s the problem, Margaret. I-I will speak for the ghost! I cannot be the one who will talk to it! Common sense please!” Catastrovania shakes her head. Now you can see how she’s planning to wing herself out of this situation.

“I’ll do it.” As the leader of the group, you feel entitled to do goofy stuff in the name of the team.
“Good! Now I need everyone to hold hands a-and turn the lights off! A-And bring a candle too!” Catastrovania says as she frantically searches for information online. “Don’t stare at me like that! I’m just corroborating my vast knowledge!” The fraud says. Guess you weren’t the only one being skeptic.
“Uhm, I-Is it alright if we reuse the candle from another session…?” Bruce wonders as he stands up to search for the item.
“Anything is fine, really!” Catastrovania smirks as your friend hands her the candle.

Bruce turns off the lights then he goes back to sitting, between you and Maggie, then holds hands between you three – it’s kinda disgusting ‘cause Bruce’s and Maggie’s hands are sweaty. You will pretend nothing is wrong.

“Oh evil spirit that falls in comparison with such a well-versed and intelligent witch like me, I feel generous today so feel free to use my voice as your own!” The lame cat girl calls the dark specter into action as she drops some tarot cards onto the table in random succession! What about the pen and paper?! This ritual makes no sense! “So do it now or silence yourself forever! Or… Err… I’ll write your message instead! Y-Yeah, that’s better for everyone…!” She sits on the table and grabs the paper and pencil. Catastrovania turns the candle on somehow and puts the paper on her lap and looks directly at you. That look… She’s begging with her eyes to play along with her. “Y-You’re free to ask whatever, Alfred!”

“What’s troubling you dark spirit?” You put on an imposing voice.
“The impurities of this wretched wor—” Catastrovania stopped halfway through her speech because she remembered she’s supposed to be writing these messages. Catastrovania scribbles a quick note on her notepad. She turns it around to show it to you.

You read it out loud for everyone to hear it: “The impurities of this wretched world contaminated this very soul when it was part of the living. My eternal sorrow can not be quenched. I shall impart the same suffering to those who still hold to this world. Also that guy really smells bad and kinda pisses me off.”

“Y-You mean me?!” Bruce immediately sniffs his arm. “I’m not so sure about that…” He doesn’t buy it and he’s starting to feel skeptical.
“B-Brucy, just let the spirit speak!” Maggie is totally entranced by this idiocy.

“Are you a cute chick, dark spirit?” You put on your imposing voice again.
“Ngh!” Catastrovania immediately flinches for a second as her cheeks turn red, then she writes something again that you read aloud.

“I’m the most beautiful and intelligent dark specter you will never have the pleasure to see, you naïve young man! You’re 500 years too young to even think about even seeing my face, let alone ask me out!” You put on a dumb voice for the spirit.

“…Did it really say that?” Bruce is having real doubts now.
“I guess it is a chick.” Maggie is acting less frightened.

“Are you putting on a show because you never scored in life, dark spirit? Is it that lonely that you need to seek a young man’s attention like that?” You’re now completely teasing her.
You’ve never seen Catastrovania write something so fast in her life, she’s totally flustered. You read it for everyone to hear again!

“Watch your mouth you foul man! I’m over 600 years old! You think you can satisfy me?! Do you really are capable to handle such responsibility?!”

What do you respond to this obviously horny spirit?

>“Yeah sure. I thought you'd never ask.”

“Yeah sure. I thought you’d never ask.” You dryly respond as you look up again to Catastrovania after reading her note. “Uhm, how am I supposed to satisfy a spirit?”
“S-Simple! I have taken full control of this charming and beautiful vessel! You’re so lucky!” Catastrovania throws away the pen and the little notebook she was writing in. “N-Now, come forth! Prove your worth and fulfill my desires!” Catastrovania looks a little too excited about this…

“If I let these two go, this séance would stop, right?” Time to turn the tables on her. “You’ll have to approach me.”
“Y-You said you’ll take responsibility, you craven coward! How dare you lie to me?!” The flustered Catastrovania doesn’t want to make the first step.
“With how thirsty you are being, I thought you wouldn’t mind taking the first step.”

“A-Allie, don’t make the spirit angry!” The fearful Maggie tries to make sense of the situation. Bruce on the other hand, is just enjoying this mess for what it really is.

“I knew it! You’re making a mockery out of me, human! Your defiance will not go unpunished! I’ll haunt this place for eternity! My presence will forever be a reminder of your ineptitude! Nyeeeeeh!” Catastrovania twirls her hands like casting a curse onto you.

“It was all a trick to distract you. Now Cat, destroy the spirit from the inside.” You feed the perfect lie to end this charade on a good note!

“W-What?! What’s this?!” The evil spirit starts panicking! You faintly hear a triumphant song coming from Catastrovania’s pocket, probably from her phone’s speakers.
Fufufu~, foolish fool! You think a high level esper, witch and metahuman would let you do as you please!?” Catastrovania now is playing herself acting cool! Catastrovania is playing a two man act by herself now.
“I’ve been bested so easily! No wonder you’re the legendary Catastrovania Strifaust Morituros IX known all over the netherworld! A creature so vile and cool! I never stood a chance against such an almighty foe!” The “spirit” sucks up.

“It’s too late for flattery, dear. Begone with you, fiend of darkness! You don’t have my approval to be part of the realm of the living no more!”
“Noooo! I don’t want to go back! The internet connection is not stable down there! Noooooooooooooo!” Catastrovania plays it off as she’s choking to death, then she tenderly drops on the table – then she stands up and gives her victory pose!

And so the evil spirit was defeated! Hooray! This whole farce is over! Bruce turns the lights on.

“Thank you, Alfred. You’re indeed a reliable companion of darkness, your distraction tactics are odd but effective! Now you will be known as my assistance from this point forwards! You should be proud!” Catastrovania is really pleased you follow her stupid act perfectly.
“No.” You deny the position.

“Brucey! The evil spirit is gone!” Maggie celebrates first.
“…We’ll see.” A nervous Bruce chuckles. He caught on to your stupid act early on, so he’s looking anxious now.
“W-What do you mean by that…?” Maggie is going to start losing it again.
“Whenever I bring someone to exorcise it and utterly fails, the haunting gets 100 times worse and the whole apartment shakes like an earthquake.” Bruce responds like it’s the most normal thing in the world. “That’s why I don’t bother to bring anyone to help, haha…”

As soon as he stops talking, the ground below you starts violently shaking! Everything in the shelves start to drop down! You need to do something!

“See?” Bruce looks disappointed while Catastrovania and Maggie start panicking!

“Why didn’t you tell us before?!” Maggie screams at the unusually stoic Bruce.
“Y-You guys were so into it, I didn’t want to interrupt…” Bruce comes clean. “Besides it doesn’t last longer than a few minutes.”
“That’s longer than most earthquakes, asshole!” Why… Why Maggie knows that?

Anyway, you make your move and do what you can to help Catastrovania! She’s a dark mage so she doesn’t have many hit points! You assume since the apartment is haunted, outside of it should be fine, right? You managed with great dexterity to grab the paper thin girl and run away from the apartment!

And your assumption is correct, outside is like nothing is happening. Catastrovania is trembling in fear in your arms like a little kitty…

Once she realizes the place around her is not shaking, she moves her face from your chest and looks around – she looks up to you without understanding what’s going on and suddenly her face flashes red.

“W-What… What happened?” Catastrovania is confused and flustered yet again.
“I took you out first because your HP bar is pathetic and laughable.”
“First? Me? Huh?!” Catastrovania realizes you’re carrying her bridesmaid style. She quickly escapes your grasp! She nervously looks away from you, a stupid smile on her face showing. “G-Good job, assistance! Your loyalty is c-commendable! You shall be rewarded later… i-if you want to…”

“Okay. I’ll check on the others.” You didn’t even bother correcting her.

You open up the apartment door again! It moves like an elevator going crazy inside, or someone shaking a box! You see Maggie bouncing around and manage to grab her and drag her outside, saving her from this bouncy castle nightmare!

F-Fuck this! Fuck like everything about this!” A livid Maggie shouts, her voice breaking from fear and anger – you see a couple of tears on her face. She’s holding your leg in fear and it doesn’t seem like she’s willing to let go.
“It’s all right.” You pat her back to calm her down.

Bruce is too out of your reach to do anything to help him.

What do you do?

“Hold on for a second, Maggie. I’m going to attempt to save Bruce.” You keep patting her on the back until she finally lets you go.
“B-Be careful…” Maggie’s voice of concern is quite adorable, not that you’ll admit it out loud.
“Yeah! Be s-safe!” Catastrovania is worried as well.

It only looks like a vortex of death, what could possibly go wrong? You nonchalantly walk inside the apartment again. Bruce is on the other side of the room, how troubling. You remain calm despite losing your balance a couple of times. You won’t be affected by this ghost’s shenanigans.

“Hey Al! Go back!” Bruce shouts despite his troubles. “I’ll be fine!”
“No.” You can not leave him behind! He may be used to this but that doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous!

Suddenly the door behind you closes, the earthquake halts with it. You try to open the door again but it’s completely shut and won't budge. What’s going on…?

“T-That’s new…” Bruce admits as he recovers from the ground. He looks fine. “The door being locked I mean.”
“The earthquake stopped at least.” You see the positive side.
Bruce approaches the window and tries to open it, but it’s no good. “It’s shut too. Rats…”

You look at your phone and have no signal, is this the ghost’s doing?

“If you’re wondering, there is usually no signal here.”

A haunted apartment with no phone signal? Bruce got duped hard…

You will attempt to open this apartment room from the inside. Perhaps you will have to interact with the ghost. But how? Eh, fuck it. If some fake ritual shit did this to you, maybe a direct approach would be 100 times better.

“Ghost, please let us go.” You ask nicely.

“…” But the ghost didn’t respond.

“That was the first thing I tried.” Bruce informs you. It seems your basic approach is common between your friends. He starts to clean up his place.
“…We need information then.” You decide your next move. “Who are you and what do you want with my friend? Answer me.”

“…” But the ghost didn’t respond again.

“A-Al, look at the wall…” Bruce points at the wall next to you. There is something painted red on there:

It’s not about him.

“Finally, some progress!” Bruce’s reality is so warped right now, he actually believes this is progress. “I’m not the first one living here, so I get it.” Bruce nods to himself like a deluded man.
“This makes it more difficult, really. If it’s not personal, there isn’t much we can do to appease it.” You have no idea how to go on about this. It is suspicious that the place locked when the two of you were inside instead of everyone, but that’s your only clue.
“By the way, if you want to smash the window – it ain’t gonna be easy. The last guy who lived here did that, so my landlord reinforced this new one. I think it’s bulletproof and everything.” Bruce points out.

“That’s not good.” What are you going to do…?

You ask Bruce what’s the deal with the ghost as you start inspecting the place closely.

“The deal? Well at first I thought the landlord was playing games with me, she is a known prankster and quite enjoys seeing people frightened for whatever reason. I mean, if you look at this place, the walls aren’t exactly attached, there is a little gap – the floor is a little bent and the height doesn’t match outside. It’s like a trap house.” Bruce starts his explanation. Which he should’ve said at the beginning of this. You corroborate all his observations, except the last one about the height – but you will believe him. “But what makes me believe it’s an actual ghost is the story about the previous landlord.”

“What’s this story about?”
“I heard it from old tenants, this building was sold very quickly after they discovered the old landlord’s daughter’s body hanging from the ceiling. I m-mean…!” Bruce realizes this story sounds like another one…
“You mean?” You act dumb.
“N-Nothing…” Bruce sighs. “She… committed suicide. She got bullied hard in school and—”

Suddenly the ground starts shaking even more violently than before, then suddenly stops. You both look around and see a completely new message where the last one was:

I didn’t DIE! THEY STOLE MY BODY! I’M ALIVE!

“...Al, I’m gonna be honest. I didn’t really believe in ghosts until now.” Bruce is in shock.
“That makes two of us.” If it isn’t a ghost, the landlord of this place needs to do reality TV prank shows.

“…I’m… A…. A….” You hear loud whispers… The voice sounds distorted.

Oh shit, it’s an actual ghost!

“What really happened to you, Mr. or Ms. Ghost?” You’re the first one to address the ghost directly.
“A..A…ALIV…E…” The specter ends his previous sentence. How rude of you to interrupt.
“Yeah, we got that part. We can’t help if you don’t explain what’s important.”

“THE…Y ST…OL…E IT, THEY STOLE MY BODY...!” The voice shrieks in pain. “I… want it… back…”
“Look ghost, I’m terrified right now, so you better explain yourself real quick or I’ll pass out.” Bruce wants to get to the point as well.

“I… waited for… months… for this chance… you surely can… give me more… than… 5 minutes… okay?” This is going to get old fast.
“Months? I thought this place was haunted for years.” Bruce is sure surprised.
“That’s what… I’m… trying… to explain. Just shut the fuck up.” The ghost kinda sounds like an out of breathe obese man. “My memory is fuzzy… every day I forget… more… They stole my body… months ago… A family… A family… A family… Their youngest… needed… a heart transplant… I was killed…? No… NOOO… NOOOO… I’M ALIVE! I’M ALIVE!”

The ghost is going mental now. You and Bruce are looking at each other like trying to come up with something to say.

“C’mon, complete your train of thought. I believe in you.” Hopefully, your encouragement doesn’t come off as patronizing. “A name would really help.”
“Name…? My… name? His… name? What name?!” The ghost is going through another panic attack.
“Let’s start with yours.”

Odetta.” You never heard a name like that before, you don’t have any other comments about it.
“Good. Now the family’s name you wish revenge upon.”
“Odetta.”
“No, I believe that’s your name.” You correct the spirit. “Please try again.”

“I CAN’T! I CAN’T! AAAAH… AAAAH…” If it wasn’t a ghost, you would say he or she’s breathing heavily.
The best way to take someone out of a panic attack is to distract them, worked with your dad more often than not. Except for his last one…. “What was your name again?”
“Odetta…”

“Good job, Odetta. I knew you could do it.” You confirmed her name. Hooray. “Now we only have to—”
MY MEMORIES ARE LEAVING… I NEED A BODY… I NEED A BODY… GIVE ME YOUR BODY. PLEEEEEEASE.” Odetta is looking rather violent now that’s she’s somewhat visible. She’s slowly floating towards you.
Bruce grabs your shoulder and pulls you back. “S-Stand back…” He whispers as he puts himself in between you two. His hand is shaking in fear, and despite that, he’s putting himself in harm’s way for you.

What do you do?

“Would my phone count as a body?” You take your phone from your pocket and begin wiggling it to gather Odetta’s attention.
“W-What?! Of course not… you idiot! It’s just… a phone!” Odetta is not amused.
“Have you tried before?” You question the validity of her disdain.

“N-No…” Odetta admits. What happened to her ire?
“Give it a try! I’m sure it will work, haha…” Bruce chimes in to support your idea. He puts his arm over your shoulder and smiles at the ghost.
“C’mon Odetta, we believe in you. Believe in the power of digital technology.” You nod. It’s not true. But it could work!

“You take me… for a fool?! I’LL TAKE YOUR BODY!” Odetta slowly floats menacingly towards you and Bruce…! Either ghosts aren’t very fast or Odetta isn’t that menacing afterall… You put the phone in the middle of her way for protection. And incoherently, the ghost gets actually sucked inside your phone! You just performed the Ma Fu Ba!

Why did it work? Why did this happen? You don’t know or care, you’re just happy it’s done.

Anyway, you think you’re comprehending the actual dark art of the Evil Containment Wave…

“Is… Is it actually gone?” Bruce wonders in awe. The blood from the wall is gone at least, so that should mean something.
“Let’s never talk about this again.” You are dead serious.
“But… What about the ghost?” Bruce has a tender heart, for better or worse.

“I’ll check out my phone, but I’ll do no more.” Just one quick peek because you’re slightly curious about what happened.
“Thanks.” Bruce drops down on the floor. “Uff… That was stressful.”
You slowly sit next to him. “Don’t overwork yourself.”

You start looking through your phone, nothing out of the ordinary – except there is a new app! It’s called the “NecronomiCall”. You wonder what it is about, but you’re smart enough not to open it – you don’t want malware on your phone.

“Hey! Hey!” A girly voice comes out from the phone, it is somehow familiar. “You asshole! How the hell did you trap me in here?!” It’s the ghost! She’s actually inside the phone, she’s like a layer over everything on display. Her size varies like a weird tweening, but she’s standing still.
“Woah cool.” Bruce suddenly taps on the screen, pushing Odetta down. That’s rude. “W-Whoops… I’m s-sorry!”
“Y-You will be sorry once I get out of here!” Odetta doesn’t sound like an overweight man with a distorted voice. She’s wearing a weird mask and has a huge thing on her arm. “T-Take me out or I’ll beat you up! Like for real!”

“Does your head hurt anymore, Ms. Ghost?”
“I’m NOT a ghost! And… you know, now that you mention it, my thoughts… aren’t escaping me anymore. That’s a relief.” Odetta has calmed down now that she figured out that she's not in danger anymore.
“A-Ask her again what her deal is.” Bruce is still curious.

“Why don’t ask me yourself, big boy?” Says the least intimidating screensaver ever. “What am I even wearing..?” Odetta grabs her huge metal thing on her shoulder and takes it out, now she’s trying to take her mask off.
“You heard the question.” You tell the facetious ghost.
“Please wait! You don’t know how trippy this whole thing is to me! My brain is going bonkers! Like you two look huge!” Odetta is staring at her hands.

“Take your time.” There is no rush, aside from the two girls still being outside.
“…I think I’m good now.” Odetta finally pulls it together, completely ignoring the existential dread of her mind being trapped inside a phone and what that truly entails. “Have you two heard of the concept of astral projectin’?

“That’s an ability in DnD.” You and Bruce look at each other, remembering the shenanigans of that campaign.
“I suppose that’s enough to understand.” Odetta seems content with not explaining much. “But I’m an Astral Body, not a ghost! Your concept of ghosts are so far away from reality, it’s not even worth bringing up. Just understand, as an Astral Body I’m alive, a ghost lost their bodies – understand? I’m not a ghost and stop calling me that!”

“Understood.” You agree to this ghost’s demands. “Now, about the family…”
“Oh yes, those bastards! They tricked me! I did an errand for them and when I came back, they were gone with my body!” Odetta sounds furious. “It was all a trick! Goddamn it! No amount of money will stop my eternal curse from falling on all of you, Prices! It’s not a matter of if I get my body, just when! HahAHhahHAH!” Odetta laughs maniacally like a cheap movie villain. Did she just say…?

“Are you being vague on purpose for a reason or…?” Bruce wonders as he’s not looking as keen as before to keep interacting with Odetta after that.
“I need to make sure you two are going to help me.” Odetta smirks. “I beg you! I’ll do anything!”

“If we’re talking about the same Prices. An enemy of them is a friend of mine.” Your team is going to get even larger.
“I like your style.” Odetta’s creepy smile shines even more, or the screen is tilted towards the light – same effect though.

If we’re talking about the same Prices.” You remind her.
“The billionaire family! Those corrupt assholes! So smug you just want to smack them in the face! Who else?!” Yep, they are the same.

“Oh, she hates them too. What a coincidence.” Bruce tries to chuckle to lift the serious atmosphere a little.
Coincidence ? You think hating one of the most powerful families in the world is a coincidence?” Odetta is so bewildered by Bruce comment, you can feel her faith in you all slowly slipping away.
“I never heard of them before until now. I just know one of them ‘cause my friend here hates his guts.” Bruce rudely points at you.

“Did you live in a little town in the middle of nowhere for all your life or what?!” Odetta is going crazy again.
“Precisely.” You nod. Not all the world revolves around egotistical people like Aleister. “Also, why do you look like a serial killer?”
“You don’t spend months in the same place without turning a little crazy…” Odetta smiles.

“So tell us about your grudge.”
“If you tell me your name! I know the other guy is Bruce.”
“My name is Alfred, welcome to my phone.”
“Yeah, we’re going to talk about this later – never seen someone trap an Astral Body inside a machine like this.” Odetta starts beating the glass of the phone to no effect. “Ehem, I’ll keep the story short. It’s pretty simple, I’m one of the best at what I do, yeah, it doesn’t look like it now – but I’m telling the truth.”

“I got hired by one of the oldest sons of their family for espionage, I take vital information that I believe they used to annihilate small businesses – I won’t indulge you with the details now. Astral Bodies don’t leave trails behind, never disclosed my methods or anything! But one day, I was contacted by their youngest, I usually talk to the big bro – anyway he had one special mission like no other before: I had to spy on someone from another big family, in my line of work we don’t ask questions, but he seemed noble enough I didn’t bat an eye, he only wondered about this kid’s condition as they were friends, the secrecy felt a little iffy. But when I got there and saw the level of security, I understood it all.”

“Poor kid was dying, needed a heart transplant, I really felt for him and all... When I came back to inform Aleister, my body was gone. If they planned on killing me, why did they just take my body?! Makes no sense! I was so distraught… I… I think they took my body ‘cause I match with the kid, right? They are going to fuckin’ use my body to save that little guy’s life. There is no other reason why they would steal my body right? That’s why they are keeping me alive!”

“Why would they keep your body alive now then? They could take your heart and dump it somewhere.” Bruce makes a valid point, a cruel one but still.
“Don’t… Don’t ever ask me that again. I’m alive. I’m alive. I’m alive. You hear me?!” Odetta is shaking.

“Well, welcome to the team, I guess.” You tell the barely functioning new app on your phone.
“Yes! Just find my body and I’ll repay you! I swear!” Odetta has joined the team.

You earn +1 Charisma Experience points for letting a useless “not dead” gho- Astral Spirit join the party!

“Uhm…” Bruce doesn’t seem comfortable with the situation.
“So why stay here of all places? Since you obviously didn’t kill yourself here like that rumor Bruce told me.” You ask another question.
“Oh yeah, it wasn’t that at all!” Bruce almost forgot.

“Astral Bodies aren’t like the spirits or ghosts in books or TV series. You’re a conscious of yourself floating around and capable of thought, but there is no place to store your mind into – so you have to concentrate all your energy into keeping all your memories intact. Imagine you need to keep reminding yourself of a long supermarket list without writing it, just over and over again, repeating the words in your head. Once you lose your train of thought, you may lose that memory forever. That doesn’t mean that, for example, I will forget my name forever even after going back to my body, my brain still has those memories and it connects with my spirit – so both will combine to create a new sense of self and memories.” Odetta explains in detail.

“That doesn’t answer my question.” You blankly but politely point out.

“Yes, I’m getting there, Alfred. In the case of not returning to your body and forgetting most of your memories, you lose your sense of self – and when that happens you turn into a wandering spirit. A wandering spirit is an astral body who lost their own sense of self but still has a will of sorts, one word keeps it going – one wish sometimes. For example, like most vengeful spirits, they want someone dead or people to leave this place and other ideas. If their wish gets fulfilled they will finally part from this world. I needed to avoid turning into one of them or I wouldn’t be able to return to my body, not because I couldn’t get inside it – but my new self isn’t capable to think about going inside.” Odetta keeps her long winded explanation going without answering your question.

“Mhm.” You and Bruce both nod and sit down on a couple of pillows and keep paying attention to Odetta.
“I rented the apartment below as my office to leave my body. I needed a lot of strategic points to make the trips as short as you can, if you’re good, you can keep your sense of self as an astral body for a couple of hours – and you usually fly much faster when you’re not so preoccupied with keeping yourself alive. Even as a pro, safety comes first – I guess in hindsight this left me more exposed and easier to track than I expected.” You feel Odetta’s regret.

“Once I noticed my body was gone, I panicked and searched for it for a couple of hours more, the moment I started feeling like I was losing my mind – I had to go back to a place that looked familiar, to a place I could remember to keep myself from going crazy. I picked this apartment for 3 reasons: One, it looked just like mine until people started to move in. Two, I remember the landlord’s machinery inside this place. And lastly, because I found another astral body here.”

“W-Wait what?” Bruce is actually surprised! Two ghosts in one place? Talk about bad luck, he could have gotten a cheaper rent.
“She was a girl your age, maybe a little younger, she at that point lost most of her memories but kept her sense of self somehow. Seeing other astral bodies is a bad sign of spending too much time as one. But thankfully, we kept each other's sanity by talking each day.” Odetta reminisces.

“I was more surprised about the machinery stuff.” Bruce confesses.

“Yeah, your landlord is crazy. All the earthquake tricks was me messing with her strange machines, she has a thing with seeing men scared or something. I really wanted you to bring an actual medium so I could communicate with them, but you keep bringing frauds – so I had to kick a fuzz to scare into bringing more. I hate you so much for stopping…” Odetta looks slightly pissed. Bruce apologizes with a little bow. “But the worst thing… Was that girl. The cat girl!”

“Catastrovania…?” You wonder. She’s not that bad…
“I knew that girl could feel us, she kept looking our way all the time! And the worst thing is she inadvertently pointed at my friend and recognized her existence! She always sat on the books! She fulfilled her wish and made her leave to the afterlife in peace! I panicked! If I didn’t have someone to talk to, I was going to lose my mind! I’m sorry for what I did but I didn’t see another way to survive!”

“Maybe she’s not a complete fraud after all…” Bruce already painted a full image of Cat…
“What’s the point of having someone like that if she doesn’t hone her skills?! How worthless is that?!” Odetta is having a meltdown. “Well, that’s all I know.”

“Hey Bruce, do you want to be a part of the team as well? It’s quite dangerous.” You ask him directly ‘cause he looked kind of off when you celebrated Odetta’s inclusion. The more the merrier.
“C-Can I? I really would like to beat whoever was responsible for killing Uncle Hank.” Bruce looks quite happy now.
“You sure you don’t have anything better to do? I mean, this could take a while if we aren’t lucky.”

“No, I don’t. My college is on strike right now, they are protesting over a politician or somethin’. It won’t end anytime soon most likely.” Bruce dismisses your concerns. “A-And I would love to help you out.”
“Then welcome aboard as well.” two members in a day, that’s a record.

You earn +1 Charisma experience points for letting an old friend join your crusade of vengeance!

“C’mon friends, we need to find my body, haha…” Odetta chimes in.
“Isn’t it kinda late for that?” Bruce checks the time. It’s almost 12:00 AM. You won’t get to do morning exercises at this rate. “I don’t want to clog your new apartment with my presence, so I’ll stay here if you need me. I can lend you some futons if you want.”
“Sure, but… we need to introduce you two to the rest of the team.” The girls are going to love the new acquisitions! You just know it… “They should be outside.”

And so, you and Bruce left the apartment in search of Maggie and Catastrovania, to your surprise they aren’t anywhere to be found! Where are these two?

“Hey, we need to talk about putting me on your pocket! It’s not comfortable! Wait, what are you doing? No, don’t get closer! Get your ear out of my face! Eugh!” Odetta makes a show for no good reason.
“Please be quiet, I’m calling someone.”
“S-Sorry…” She sheepishly apologizes.

“Where are you?” You are more worried about that.
“We are walking back there with some Oriental Food. You like that stuff, right? Catastrovania Strifaust Morituros IX said it’s pretty good.”

“Hold on, with who’s money did you buy it?” She couldn’t have stolen yours… could she?

“No.”
“I guess we can talk about that later!”

“Cool. But did you two just left me to my own devices?” Ouch, you thought you were a team.

“I…” You did see ‘em once…

You hear someone taking away Maggie’s phone.

“D-Do not answer that question! We will be there in a couple of minutes, have everything prepared for our arrival, assistant!” It’s Catastrovania, she stole Maggie’s phone.
“I’m not your assistant.”

“Woah, you’ve changed… a little. But you’ve changed!” Your comments took a positive Bruce by surprise.
“I feel so bad for teasing someone this adorable, I was just joking, Alfred. You didn’t need to take me seriously.” Odetta understands the error of her ways. “But like I said, I like your style.”

“...Let’s go inside and prepare everything for dinner, shall we?” You try to change topics now that you made a fool of yourself.

Eventually, your ever growing team enjoyed a massive dinner of Oriental Food. It’s pretty decent, but nothing lovely!

You made things short and officially presented the girls the two brand new members of the team! Bruce had almost no fanfare, but Odetta was the talk for the rest of the night! Maggie wanted nothing to do with the ghost girl, she still too spooked about her, but Catastrovania seemed more interested in talking with the psyche or whatever Odetta’s job actually was – well, until Odetta became a little too overbearing with Catastrovania and started to complain about all the wasted potential Catastrovania has. Which everyone found tiring, but she’s stuck in your phone – so you’ll have to deal with her.

Talking about tiring, you decided to go back to your brand new apartment with Bruce’s futons for you to sleep in. Bruce says he and his college friends would put some all-nighters hence why he had them, and not to worry about returning them any time soon.

It was almost 2:45 AM when you returned to your new apartment and you had to make the executive decision of not scheduling exercises tomorrow, mainly ‘cause these two girls were complaining the whole time and with good reason – the whole experience was plenty of stressful.

You decided to check out the app you got yesterday around the same time you got Odetta. You pull out your phone.

“Ready to find my body now?” Odetta greets you.
“Hold on, I want to check that new app I got. Maybe it has something to do with you.”
“I doubt it. But go ahead, I’ll be watching.” Odetta moves out of the way for you to use your phone as you wish. Now that you think about, she could act like a bodyguard for your phone.

You tap on the NecronomiCall app! Disappointingly, it appears to be a Horror-based Gacha game made by the Ka-Shing media company. You got an inaugural drop of the “Poison CyberPunk Ghost Girl.” Which looks awfully like Odetta…

“What a creepy smile.” The real Odetta comments.
“It looks just like you.”
“I look nothing like her! Oh, I get it, it’s because she’s a G-H-O-S-T, right?!”
“Do you really not see the resemblance?”

“…You’re actually serious. You’re hard to read, you know that?” Odetta looks interested in you now. “I don’t think she looks like me in the slightest.”
“Well, I’m not sure I’m interested in playing this kind of game.”
“Only a real loser would like this game.” Odetta looks around. “…You sure you don’t want to play?”

“No. We need to figure out what to do with you. I’ll wake up Catastrovania since you said she has potential to be an esper.” You stand up and change back to some decent clothes. Then you move to the girls’ room and wake up Catastrovania. She wasn’t too pleased with waking up earlier, but it was nothing a Reese’s bar couldn’t mend.

After breakfast was eaten, you finally get into the important topic. You explain in detail what actually happened yesterday so Catastrovania could understand everything perfectly – she’s already searching information on her laptop, but something you said peaked her interest.

NecronomiCall? I had that game, it’s decent!” Obviously Catastrovania would be the one playing that kind of game.
“Looks boring to me. Don’t you just collect jpegs?”
Fufufu, it’s because you haven’t seen its real potential! There is a ghost capturing mechanic that’s kind of cool!” Catastrovania wants to show you.

“I don’t think we should waste so much time on this. If we ask the right questions to Odetta, we could go far.”
“…S-Sorry to ruin your parade, but I have lost most of my memories.” Odetta reveals with aching pain on her face. “I can be u-useful, I swear! J-Just need to find my body! I didn’t want to say anything before because I was sure you guys would dump me! I’m sorry!”

“As for your punishment, I will show my assistant the real potential of the NecronomiCall!” Catastrovania proclaims.
“That makes no sense.” You object.

“J-Just follow me, it will be fun.” Catastrovania grabs your arm like a little child and drags you outside.

You are now in a stinky alley.

“…The murkier the corner, the better chances of getting one of the highest drops to appear! Look!” Catastrovania shows you her phone with enthusiasm, you can’t see anything with her moving around.
“I thought this game was a Gacha, not a Pocket Monster Move! rip-off.” Which you’re not that interested in either.
“It’s a combination of both, dear Alfred!” Catastrovania corrects you.

Suddenly, you hear someone call out your name! It’s a girl you’ve never seen before, she’s attractive enough to be worth remembering.

“Alfred Brown, I finally found you!” The quirky girl approaches you. “My name is Ichie Saionji, and I’m here to rescue you!”
“What?” You are immediately confused. That’s the same girl the accountant mafia guy mentioned...
Catastrovania gets closer to you and whispers “What a freak.”

You cannot help but think nothing is going to go as planned today…

Sadly this is all we have for this thread! Thanks for Playing!
