Character Sheet: https://pastebin.com/raw/F54P2CzP

You are Cynthia Gualdo, a single daughter of a head tailor and thus, a tailor from birth yourself. Your mother died when you were very young, but not before achieving her and your father’s dream of opening a shop in the High Street. The High Street is the most prestigious, popular and exclusive trade regions in all of Kikka: the city bordering the Noble Region. Your father grows older each year, and he made it clear that he hopes you will succeed him as the next owner. Your mother’s dreams are put on your shoulders. Despite already achieving so much, there are still highs to reach such as joining the White Yul, a group of the most influential traders in the High Street. To achieve such a thing is going to take a lot of hard work, dedication and money – perhaps, it will take you your entire life. You have long agreed to this thread of fate… Yet still, some nights you wish you could forget and leave all those things behind and escape Kikka, escape the Common Region, and explore even further.

Only recently, you have received your Grimoire – a spellbook that greatly powers your magical abilities. Soon after your return, your shop was attacked and set on fire by a group of bandits, which you believe your shop’s ex-worker, a boy named Lucius, was part of. In order to repay the heavy fees, the damage repairs as well as rent, you came to the Blue Rose base to take on the offer of one of the Magic Knights to work as a tailor for them. Disappointingly, the position had already been reserved. However, captain of the Blue Rose, Charlotte Roselei, offered you a challenge. If you can prove yourself to be a better tailor than the current one (a boy named Olyver), the position will be yours. In clear mind or not, you agreed to the trial.

It is your first night in Blue Rose base…

[Update 1/2]

“It’s not really amazing,” you tell the girl as you lean on the counter, “I am amazed you work so late.”

She hicks, “O-oh, it’s nothing,” she scrubs the plate with a sponge: a horrible noise follows. “Oh, s-sorry,” she apologizes, “I need to be quieter, y-yes, sorry. The Magic Knight are all asleep now.” She looks at you as if you hoping you would continue the dialogue or leave. She takes a sharp breath once you don’t. “Y-yes, about ninety people live in this mansion, fifty of them are Magic Knights. There is always work to be done around here…”

“And not enough people?” you ask her.

“N-not, just enough. I am actually happy to be working… nights,” she shies away, “It’s… too busy otherwise.”

You tilt your head, “My name is Cynthia, and yours?”

She places the washed and still wet plate to cover lower part of her face, “I am Elvira.”

“I’m sure we’ll get to see each other a lot, Elvira,” you jump off the counter you were leaning on, “Not sure I am going to be have too much free time until evenings, so prepare me something tasty next time.”

“I-I’ll… some company would be nice to have, but not too much people please,” she says with a blush.

“Just me,” you place your hand to your chest, “Don’t wo-”

Then, you hear a noise. Heavy, sudden and fast approaching steps grow louder and louder. The door opens with a colossal, loud crash and a figure of a knight, a very familiar one, enters the dining hall. Her helmet is now off, and her long, blond hair is completely exposed – it reaches her belt. What was her name again…? She never told you one. You take a few steps back as she practically pushes you away with her stature. You do not complain, you would rather not make problem with the nobles. It does not look as if she recognized you. You sigh with relief.

Was she not supposed to be one a mission? Did she finish it that fast?

“Kitchen girl,” she grumbles, “Give me my portion, I was absent.”

“O-oh,” the girl tightens her grip on the cleaning rag, “I-I am sorry, the last portion of the roast… was taken.”

“My portion?! Taken?” she smashes the table and makes the girl wince, “I protect this kingdom and put my life on the line each and every single day and I can’t even get some food here? Oh, wait until Captain hears about this.”

“T-the captain asked me to do so,” she mutters under her breathe, “If you want, I am preparing some sandwiches r-right now for breakfast. I c-can let you have some.”
>>
“I don’t want sandwiches,” a sudden, razor-sharp scythe strikes into the table. Wait, no, it’s no scythe. The long blonde hair of this girl now forms a glowing, mana-infused scythe by itself. You can’t see a grimoire anywhere, it’s her natural magic. The kitchen girl steps back. “I want a roast, I want potatoes. I want my stomach full when I go to bed. Do you want me to wake up hungry, do you want me to have stomach pains and my skin to dry out?”

“N-no.”

“Then go prepare me something worthy of a Magic Knight, and do it quickly – I don’t have all night,” she pauses and looks at you, “And what are you looking at? Wait,” she narrows her eyes, “Where did I see you before?”

> “I am the one who bumped into you by accident. Sorry about that, again.”
> “You shouldn’t be treating her like that. You can have your dinner tomorrow.”
> “Is this how all Magic Knights act? Just eat your sandwiches.”
> “Why are you using your magic against Charlottes’ workers?”
> Remain silent.

Update 2/2

“I am the one who bumped into you by accident. Sorry about that, again.”

“Oh,” she squeezes her eyes at you. Then, she raises her chin with pure noble arrogance, “You are that blind commoner girl. What are you doing here? I thought I made it clear we do not need any more commoners.”

That’s you. You try to act as calmly as you can, “I had a talk with your Captain, she allowed me to stay,” you force a smile. “Why are you using your magic against Charlottes’ workers?” you ask her with present cautiousness.

She blinks and forcefully remover her scythe-hair from the counter. Almost immediately, her hair, as if her third arm, swings and gently nudges you by your chin with its blind side(?). You hear yourself gulp as you quickly take a step back. “I am not using it against her,” she exclaims in a surprise, “All I did was scrap the table,” she pauses and slides her hand by the crack, “A bit, but that shouldn’t be a problem to fix for the kitchen girl. Will it be?!”

“N-no,” Elvira replies as she places some additional firewood into the cooking fire, “I-I’ll fix it.”

“Good girl,” she noble comments before her hair-scythe gently lands on her hands, “As long as we listen to each other, there will be no need for magic to be used. I don’t want to cause an accident. Charlotte does not need to know… but then again, nobody is going to care about some peasants being hurt. You have some nerve staying after I warned you, commoner girl. Is the word quitting and refusing in your dictionary?” Her voice hardens.

> “I don’t remember you warning me to quit.”
> “Are you trying to pick a fight? Is that how a Magic Knight acts?”
> “Do you want to risk Charlotte believing you over us?”
> “I will be repairing your uniforms now. If you do not want to walk in rags, I suggest you stop this.”
> Try to punch her. (DR 10 for the enemy. Will do -1 HP attack).
> Stay silent.

Let's not pick a fights with nobles right now. Let's secure position, ensure our father safety, then we can try improve treatment of the servants.

And how is that helpful? Why agitate her? We are in no position of power. Later on we can question her behavior to captain. Right now we should use her to get that position

[Update 1/1]

“I don’t remember you warning me to quit.”

Her sharp scythe-hair slowly raises to her shoulder as she gives you a wicked smile, “I am sure I did.” She pauses and you notice a sudden, confused expression appear on her face, “Or did I? I did…” her enchanted hair slowly loses it’s magically sharpened form and takes its usual, hair-shape, “I think I did, but I can’t remember for sure…”

“Y-your meal, miss Tresses,” Elvira announces and interrupts her shyly as she places a platter with a neatly cut steak, some roasted potatoes, garden peas and fresh vegetable salad, “I-I hope it is to your liking.”

“It’s not,” she harrumphs as soon as the plate is placed before her, “I hope you remember that I only like a steak that is rare, and that has not been additional cooked after being cut. I want an uncut steak. Do your thing, now.” Her thing? You raise an eyebrow as the point of attention has been, apparently, switched from you to the meal.

Elvira places her hands to her knees in apology as she then clumsily removes her grimoire and opens it right before the plate between her and Tresses. Her soft voice mutters a magic incarnation as one of the pages in the grimoire begins to glow with a strange, dark glow. “Arithmetic Magic: Normalization.” The magical air emerging from the grimoire around her begins to surround the steak and then, in a single flash, all the cut pieces reform into a single normal portion, as if a knife had never touched it. “Sorry, miss Tresses,” she apologizes once more.

“Hmph,” the noble girl takes her plate into her hands and takes a sit near one of the tables, “What an utter waste to have such a unique grimoire, and type of magic, be lost on you, kitchen girl – with all your pathetic mana.”

“Y-yeah, I get that lot,” the girl chuckles nervously before she gives you a farewell nod and quickly runs away.

“You are still here?” The noble girl says after a brief pause as she cuts into the steak, “A well-deserved meal.”

“Do you know Olyver?” you ask after a brief hesitation.

“I think that’s the tailor boy? Yeah, I do, what about him?”

“I happened to compete for his position. Do you have any work for me?"

She blinks and then coughs, “Compete? For a position of a tailor?” she clears her throat and grumbles, “Look, I nearly choked because of you,” she motions to her throat before shaking her head. Tresses looks at you in utter disbelief before she begins laughing, “Competing for a position of a tailor, I guess you commoners have it hard.” She quickly glances at her uniform and smirks, “You know, you are a funny one. Sure, I’ll give you my uniform to tailor as soon as I am finished here. Make sure to have it nice and clean and repaired for my important duties.”
>>
You give her a silent nod and a fake appreciation as you decide to no longer waste your time in her company and return to now-your room. You sit yourself on your new bed where you are most likely to spend the next week. It is a nicely kept room, and there is even a chest to keep all of your important belongings… like your half-broken magic broom as well as your necklace – as nice as it is to wear a reminder of your father, it’s really uncomfortable to sleep with. You extinguish the candle and lock your door, just in case, and as soon as you are in your sleeping clothes, you go to bed. To your surprise, you fall asleep almost instantly. The beds here are simply much better.”

Tomorrow, the first thing you will do as soon as you wake up and get ready, is…

> Form a closer relationship with your new assistants. Ask them some person question.
> Form a strictly head tailor to tailor relationship with the boys and simply explain their basic duties.
> Go around the mansion and the halls informing every Magic Knight about the changes. Put a notice as well.
> Go to meet Elvira in the dining hall. See and ask how she is feeling after yesterday. Ask about her magic.
> Write a letter to your father. You are not being too paranoid or clingy, are you?

Update 1/1

Day 3

That night you had a dream. When you are stressed the day before, your dreams always appear clear – you always remember them. You dreamed about far vistas, tall snowy mountains, deep forests, scorching deserts, wild jungles – all places in the far reaches of the continent. Some of those places you envisioned are what you imagine Grand Magic Zones (areas with incredible, volatile, dangerous and dense mana) to look like. You never left the premise of the city of Kikka: not for long and not too far, at least. You never let your father know your shop sometimes feels like a prison. That’s not true… only sometimes. Your dreams were shaped by your simplistic imagination. No matter how far you went, in all those repeating dreams you had a thread to lead you home.

Today’s morning you wake up early. You decide to skip the breakfast you do not feel was earned. Instead, you draw several notices informing everyone about the challenge as well as the location of your workshop; additionally, you add information about your linen magic: who else can you trust to repair your clothes but the mage with textile affinity? You go through the mansion and question of the more willing and talkative residents to acquire about the most populated and walked through locations in the manor: that is where you put the posters.

Before you are to meet up with the boys, you publicly demonstrate your abilities to control the textile and to mend the simplest of damages by touch alone in order to grab some additional and fresh attention. While most of them scuff at your performance as nothing more than commoner’s day show, at least some look impressed and interested. You try not to tire yourself too much doing this, however. There is still a whole day of work left.

You arrive to your workshop about half an hour before your assistants do. You inspect and prepare the clothes and all the instruments you might have a need for. Your helpers do not have textile magic, they will need them for sure. You spread some of them more common textiles on the rankings ready to easily cut and apply, and then… basically you try to follow your father’s footsteps and make this place as similar to your father’s workshop as you can. By the time you busy yourself skilfully putting needles and pins into the needle holder, the boys finally arrive.

As you predicted, they are not happy…. At very least, they share their full names with you: Pero Sarte and Lilth Fyto. You inspect them closer: both of them have dark-scarlet hair (Lilth’s a bit longer and on the murkier side) and while Lilth’s eyes are impossible to see through his magic glasses, Pero’s eyes are bright, big and hazelnut. Despite your best efforts, they refuse to be social and open with you; of course, you are some girl who came out of nowhere and possibly going to cost their best friend his job, it’s only natural that they are going to dislike you.
>>
Pero, the youngest of the two, seems to be incredibly devoted to Olyver – as if a squire. Almost every second sentence he actually speaks and mentions the older boy. When you try to teach him your way, he mentions how Olyver did it... In the end, you give up and figure it might be smart to see the ways Olyver doing his thing – you might learn something new.

Lilth, on other hand, follows your instructions without too much complains or arguments. He too, however, remains sheltered and does not answer too much of your personal prying. Only once, when you ask him about his glasses, he breaks a bit from his frozen character and is quite happy to explain how this magical artefact allows him to see small imperfections in physical objects and mana infusions. To his surprise, you question him further about where he got it and how exactly it works. He returns to silence, as if trying not to be too friendly with you.

Neither of them states you what kind of magic affinity and type they are born with. Both of those boys are too young to have their grimoires, but even then, they should know some kind of basic spells like fire or air control. While it’s not as useful as linen magic in your field of work, you are sure to find some kind of usage for them, as you are sure Olyver does. If it’s their respect you need to have them open up to you, then you are going to get it.

The three of you spend the next several hours hard at work. Despite their best attempts at insolence, your linen magic grabs their attention. You showcase years of practice by returning badly damaged uniform piece into ‘as good as new’ shape with a single wave of your hand. You then force the freshly repaired and washed, now heavily damp, pants to twist and jump into the railings like a snake to dry up. They do enjoy the display, especially Pero.

By the time half of your basket is emptied you feel moderately tired, and according to their faces, so are the boys. It is not as if the work here is much harder than in your workshop, but it is rather monotonous and meticulous. You are used to making new clothes by your father’s outline, not repairing old clothes of unknown design. When you turn to pick up another set of pants and then ask the boys to remove and iron other clothes, you realize both of them are about to leave through the door. You gently slap yourself to wake up as you quickly question them.

“You only just had a break half an hour ago,” you tell them. You try not to sound too cruel.

“But it’s dueling hours!” Pero whines as he begins to shake the door handle,” D-U-E-LL-I-N-G H-O-U-R-S!”
>>
You shake your head, “I don’t… What are dueling hours?”

“It’s when the Blue Rose Magic Knights duel!” he groans, “It’s in the name, Thia!”

“Please call me Cynthia.”

“It only happens a few hours three times a week!

“But we still have clothes to repair-”

“We can do that later, Olyver always let us watch it. He joins us too. Their fights are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!”

Lilth adjusts his glasses. He keeps one of his hands tightly gripped on his other elbow, “That is true, he did.”

You glance towards several of the baskets, most of them full or half-empty at best. If you do not finish this by today, who knows how many more will you get tomorrow? And this is only half of what Olyver deals with?

> Permit Lilth and Pero to go watch the “Dueling Hours” while you deal with the rest of the clothes by yourself.
> Join Lilth and Pero in watching the “Dueling Hours”. You are falling asleep; a short break might be useful.
> Insist on Lilth and Pero staying here and helping you in finishing today’s quota.
> Allow Pero to go alone; Lilth does not seem that interested, the two of you shall continue working.

[Update 1/X

You permit Pero as well as Lilth to take a break to watch the duels, although you do not join them. You will be able to handle a few hours of work all by yourself. While it is indeed a rare opportunity to see so many Magic Knights practicing in one place, and exchanging all their amazing magic (you have never seen more than two Magic Knights in one place) today, and likely this entire week, you are going to focus entirely on your tailor work.

You yawn as another surge of your magic flushes into the cloth around you, you focus and watch the rips and tears begin to mend with the help of your mana… there is still one left here… you send another push of mana…

“-Cynthia. Hey, tailor girl,” a strange, strong shake wakes you from your nap.

Oh no, you feel asleep… and you left a droll mess on one of the shirts; you hope it’s not Charlotte’s. You blush and shake your head. You rub your eyes to see a heavily battered and bruised Sol standing above you. The black hair of the Magic Knight is a mess as well, ruined by what you can only assume was a very sharp magic spell. Her already revealing uniform is cut to completely scanty degree, her mini-shirt is held by a couple of threads and her cloak is now hanging over her shoulder, the wonderful piece that is suppose to hold it over her neck is broken.

“Sleeping on the first day?” she snickers and you turn your face away from her in embarrassment, “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anybody, especially not the sister.” She pauses while taking a closer look at the workshop, “Are you alone?”

“I heard you were having something called “Duelling Hours” so I let the boys go watch it,” you comment as you silently return to work, your face still in flush from someone catching you snoozing off on your job. Embarrassing.

She gasps and leans forward, practically shoving her face in yours, “What? They are supposed to be your errands boys, you shouldn’t be indulging them like that! Our practice is a serious and dangerous training exercise, not some entertainment show for lazy servants!”

“It’s only a few hours,” you shake your head, “I can handle it myself… Is that why you look like that?” you ask her.

“I tell you; you are going to regret being so rug-like,” her aquamarine eyes flash, “But anyway, I’m so happy you are with us now. I really, really hate that boy touching my clothes, and what he does with them! He rubs his face all over it, I swear I caught him doing it at least once or twice! It’s gross, he’s a total pervert,” she continues her complains as she begins to undress, “When he only just joined us, I knew he was only after one thing…!”

“Wait, why are you stripping?” you cough as you immediately turn away your gaze from her body.

“Hm?” she stops as only her underwear and bra remain, “Can’t you fix my clothes?”
>>
“S-sure I can,” you look over the completely devastated uniform, “Can’t you wear your second uniform until, say, tomorr-”

“Nope,” she sits on your table and smiles, “That’s my only set of clothes, I though you could repair them now.”

Are you going to have a half-naked Magic Knight sitting here watching you work? What if somebody else enters, there’s going to be a complete misunderstanding, you don’t want any strange gossips on your very first day!

“T-the boys are going to return soon,” you say, “You don’t want to see them like this, do you?”

She places her finger to her chin, “That will be a problem. True. What if we just lock the door?”

That’s going to be a cause for an even bigger misunderstanding!

“-or I could just knock them out if they come back.”

That’s barely any better, what is this girl thinking assaulting those underage boys with brute force? She’s joking!

“I see that you are just repairing them,” she pauses and rolls some shirt through her hands, “No stitches…”

You narrow your eyes as you pick up another uniform from the basket, “I don’t need needles or strings, at least not for this type of clothing. If it’s cotton or silk, I might need to do some stitching, but from what I see, the Blue Rose is not cheap enough for cotton… and only royals use silk.” You pause after a short realization, “What do you mean ‘-just- repairing them’, Sol?” you ask her in utter confusion.

“Well, you see, that pervert boy, he adds some… sweet… decorations and some additional beautifications to our clothes when he gets them fixed. All the time. Mostly cute animals or stitched designs of flowers. They are pretty neat,” she smirks, “But with your magic I expect you to blow him out of the water in that field!”

So that’s how Olyver stays in good grace despite his weird attics. He understands girl’s love for cute superfluities! But that is insane, how is that boy able to not only find a time to repair the clothes (without textile magic!) as well as put some useless emblems and illustrations on the silk, not by dye and paints but by stitching them! Perhaps this is why the girls have so many trashed clothes in the first place, just so they can wear a new fashion style.

“I-I’ll try,” you take a deep breathe, “P-please wear this until I get your clothes ready, Sol,” you speak awkwardly as you hang her one of the more concealed uniforms, “I have so much work here, it might take until tomorrow.”

“You are being too nervous,” she crosses her fingers and flexes her hands above her head, “Relax a little bit.”

She is the very reason you are so nervous in the first place. Still, after noticing your pouting face, she rolls her eyes and begins putting on the long pants and the size smaller shirt; you notice a deep, fresh wound on her left side.

[Update 2/X]

“Here, let me-” you snap open your book pouch in order to remove your grimoire.

Sol blinks and narrows her eyes. She grabs your wrist to stop you, “What are you doing?” she asks.

“I won’t touch you,” you answer calmly as your grimoire swiftly engulfs in your mana and starts to slowly float between you and Sol. The pages begin to turn until the single filled one with the spell stands open, the words inside overflow with radiance. “I have healing magic, let me help you,” you raise your hand to her wound.

“Healing magic?” Sol pauses, “Well I am lucky then,” she says, “Don’t get too touchy, though, my body belongs to the sisters alone.” You roll your eyes as your lips whisper an incantation, “Linen Magic: Homely Blanket”. From thin air an enchanted, sparkling cloth begins to form thread by thread until a sheet the size of a blanket is floating in your control. Sol looks displeased, at first, when the blanket surrounds her half-naked body, but she relaxes when the cloth appears to be comfier than she had expected… you have yet to use the spell on yourself. Slowly, not only the deep wound on her side but also her less serious bruises and cuts begin to vanish under your magic.

Sol restores 2 HP.

You sway your hand to remove the drenched coat by telekinesis; it soon vanishes in the same fashion is had appeared. The Magic Knight immediately jumps off the table and straightens herself. She unashamedly flexes her tanned, tomboyish body before you, “That feels great. Why didn’t you tell me you knew Healing Magic?”

“I though I did,” you backtrack as you return to now quickly fixing Sol’s uniform. You hide your yawn…

“Healing Magic is rare, you know,” she approaches you before slapping her hand on your shoulder, “Thanks!”

“I-It’s nothing,” you answer her back as you attempt to channel magic into her badly destroyed cloak.

Your hands slide off the table as you land your forehead straight on the surface. Ouch.

“Some might think it has a bad reputation too, especially in the Magic Knight Squads, but that is not true,” she follows as she continues to look over your work, “Even here, in the Blue Rose, we have only but a few people with Healing Form worth a damn. I knew some kids from my town practically embarrassed that they only were able to use healing magic. Them nobles have it lucky with their massive mana pool to use High Level Magic Spells, eh?”

You really don’t care. “That’s interesting… but my spells are nothing like theirs. And I’m a commoner.”

“I say it’s damn good for your first spell. You just need to keep using, and training it. That’s how you improve.”

“That’s fine,” she says as she puts the clothes you offered her, “You look tired. Let’s go for some wind up.”
>>
“But I still have-”

“I can’t watch you like this, honestly you should be quitting for today. Let’s call the errand boys to finish the rest.”

[Update 3/3]

You rub under your eyes, unsure if your tiredness is from your hard work or lack of mana – or both.

“You are right. It’s been long enough. Let’s go where you duel and call Pero and Lilth back.”

“Heh¬”, she pauses as she finally removes her hand from your shoulders and moves towards the door, “It took me two years to remember their names, and I’m not really sure if I still do. You are taking this very seriously.”

You nod your head at her. “That’s right, this job is important to me. I really need it,” you tell her after a brief pause as you begin to neatly fold the last uniform set of pants and shirt you managed to fix. Once that is done, you approach the door that anxious Sol had already opened and closed several times in wait. “Sorry,” you apologize, not really meaning it, “If I don’t fold the clothes properly, they are going to be wrinkles all over them.”

“Don’t worry about that,” Sol forcefully pushes you outside with a chuckle, “We are going to be fighting in those clothes, not dancing.” As long as your clothes are neat and the person receiving them is satisfied, you do not care how and where exactly they are going to be used. You keep in mind that they are fighting clothes, but that’s it…

“Why do you only have one set of clothes anyway?”

“I usually have my earth magic fighting my battles for me, so the worse thing that can happen is that they get dirty,” she explains as she pushes you forward, “Besides, they are easy for a do-it-yourself fix! But now -you- can do that, so that is even better. I don’t want that boy sniffing my clothes.”

She leads you through the beautiful, brick halls with massive, sometimes ornamental and silver-plated, windows. Some of those windows have deep blue stained glasses; you can only imagine how beautiful those halls would look in the bright sunshine of mid-day. The mansion is a maze, a brick continuation of the garden outside, and while this is your first and you frequently got lost, Sol is different. In just a few minutes she leads you to the battle hall; some of the stairs are practically unnoticeable but are practically, handily located. You try to road a mental map so that you’ll be able to return back to workshop without having to spend a long time going the lengthy way.
>>
There is no door leading to the battle hall, instead, it is a long and dark hallway that leads into a massive half-room half-meadow. The tall ceiling is decorated with translucent (and probably enchanted) glass and the walls are almost completely covered in undergrowth and vines: some of those vines appear to be a fat as a person and as large as some of the pillars in that main hall. They are all covered in razor-sharp thorns. The dirt grass has a few patches of fresh flowers and grass, but is it mostly covered in visible sights of battles fought in here. Instead of torches and lanterns, the battle hall is illuminated by magical sun flowers – it gives this place a slight mystical look.

Thankfully, there are benches here – quite ornamentally decorated, in fact. You notice a big gathering of people on them, as well as sounds of gasp. Most of them are Magic Knights, but at least a few of them appear to be the mansion’s workers. At closer inspection, there are several raised, flat hill-like platforms – at least four of them are visible yet only one of them is occupied with people. Spread around it lie three bodies of female Knights; massive and quite horrible cuts and rends are visible over their bodies. They are bleeding. Their clothes are in tatters, too.

The only person standing is Tresses, the noble Magic Knight you had the misfortune of meeting, but here, right now, she looks different – she is gorgeous yet primal. Her blonde, glowing pale hair is ten times longer now, it is spread in all directions like a spike ball and each of her strands is formed into a massive weapon: scythe, sword, axe, spears and even a mace. You can only imagine how painful an attack from each of them would be like.

“When will you stop taking duels so seriously, Tresses?!” one of the Magic Knight from the tribune shouts at her in disbelief. While there is a silent applause of her skills, most of the crowd looks very dissatisfied. “This is training.”

“No, it’s not,” she speaks out as she approaches the edge of the platform, “I told them to give up. To surrender.”

“There is no point on giving up in a friendly duel, we are here to just train our magic!” the woman continues.

“I did not join the ‘Blue Rose’ to train,” Tresses’s armour clangs as all of her hair, and her weapons, raise into the air to cast a massive shadow around her, “Heed well: I am here to become the next Captain of the Blue Rose and after that, the next Magic Emperor. A peasant or not, do not waste my time.”

“Captain Charlotte is not going to be happy that you injuring so many of her retinue!”

“All she needs is me,” Tresses answers with back nonchalantly and then coolly turns away to leave the battle hall.

“Somebody, call Cecilia!” one of the older females at the other side of the battle hall shouts, “We need a healer!”
>>
Sol looks at the commotion, then at you, and grins. Without your consent or even a reaction she raises your hand into the air and shouts to the people on the benches, “Don’t need to call Cecilia, we have a healer right here!”

“What are you doing, Sol?” you hiss at her as you attempt to forcefully push your hand down – it is no use.

“I’m telling you, you need some practice, you’ll thank me later,” she smiles, “Besides, they’ll be in your debt.”

[Update 1/1]

> 2, 4, 3

When Sol begins to push you towards the platform, you give her a defeated sigh. You approach the hill podium and, with some visible struggle and a push to your rear from Sol, you climb on top of it. While the other two women are groaning and moaning in pain, the one you find yourself standing before right away is knocked out; she is practically lifeless. It looks as if one of the weapons went straight into, and maybe through, her chest, and her wound continues to bleed into the grass and dirt beneath her.

“Who is that, Sol?” the woman shouts back as you hastily remove your grimoire, “They have serious wounds!”

That’s understating it. Your magic is not going to be able to heal them unless you do it twice… maybe thrice? Four times? Who knows? The best you’ll be able to do is close their more fatal injuries and stabilize them. You look around. You shrink as you being to feel as if the dozen eyes on the benches are looking at you and you alone. You try to appear and act as hidden as possible. You do not even allow your grimoire to float in the air, you simply keep it tightly gripped in your hands as you akwardly turn the pages until you find the one with the magic spell.

“Sol, this is not a joke. We need a serious healer here, and everyone else but Cecilia is on a mis-”

“Oh, come on,” Sol practically swings her hands in annoyance, “Look at me, do I look injured? I don’t. This girl here healed me, Martha, and she will take care of their wounds as well. Now shut up, and just watch.” Thanks, Sol…

“That’s the tailor girl we saw earlier,” one of the Magic Knight shouts, “The silly one, near the dining hall!”

“You are right, that’s her! I though she had some kind of cloth magic? What is this about healing?”

“She’s just a commoner isn’t she! Those are no mere bruises. Somebody, call a proper mage, like Cecilia!”

“Hey, isn’t that Thia? Ah, she’s here for us. Let’s go, let’s go before she gets mad!”

You take a deep breath as you try to wall off all the voices in the tribunes. You put your hand above the grimoire pages as you whisper out loud an incantation. From within the bright, silvery glow of your hand begins to emerge an enchanted silk cloth that immediately surrounds the body of the eccentric, unconscious girl; she is barely older than you and is wearing a strange, black eyeliner around her eyes as well as a black lipstick. They are all strange.

Your enchanted cloaks soaks in the bad blood and tightly closes the massive rend on her chest, but even when the healing blanket is lifted, her body remains covered in present scars and bruises. This will either take a second spell or a more powerful magic. Still, you look at the woman’s pale face and her lips begin to tremble with life.

You spend 12 mana.

“Y’lot, stop watching them!” Martha yells out, “Come on, bring her and others to the medical room!”
>>
You try to ignore the rush of people as you then slowly stumble towards the second injured. This one is a woman as old as Sol: she is in her adult years. You quickly notice a deep ivory, horn-like and bushy hair; her two hair buns are twice as big as your fist. Her eyes are closed. Her groans are loud, and despite the lack of scars, there is a massive blue spot and a bruise spread across her chest and stomach area – this is where the “mace” hit her.

Honestly, if you close your eyes, her groans appear to sound like a dying animal – likely a goat or sheep. You try to ignore such an insulting though as you emerge yet another enchanted cloth from within your grimoire. You tuck the body of the girl into the cloth and, as soon as she stops groaning and relaxes inside your, now very likely, comfortable cloth, she falls asleep. You thank the heavens it was not a bone injury… You can’t heal those.

You spend 14 mana.

The last woman you approach is a girl as old as Tresses (she is barely older than you). Unlike the other two, the moment she sees you she responds. In visible self-importance, she shouts, “Can you hurry up?! It hurts. That damn… AGH!” she rolls herself on her stomach, “Damn you Tresses Amure, just because you are from influential family…” she continues on grumbling and roaring and scratching the ground with her face, “Another time… One more fight and I’ll best you. I will best you, I said! You are going down you… arrogant snob. What’s taking you so long!?” she screams as her deep, scarlet eyes glare edgy daggers at you, “You are a healer, are you not?! Do your best and do it faster, peasant!”

“I’m not a peasant,” you mutter under your breath as you take a sit right before the strange girl.

Of all the haircut you have seen, especially from the royals, she has the strangest. For one, her hair is as light-blue as a morning dew. Cubes, as if from a shattered glass, are spread across her head and stick up like some sort of alien architecture: most of them are gathered behind her head. Even the two strands that make her forelock, combined, make a square. What is her obsession? What a strange style…

“I don’t care,” she shouts, “Peasant, commoner, rat. I am your noble, it is your duty to heal me!” she shouts, “I STILL HAVE MORE VICTORIES TRESSES, YOU HEAR ME, DAMN YOU!” You don’t think she realizes Tresses has left.

You sigh. Without a grimoire your usage of mana is weak, yet trivial. This single spell alone drains you like you have never felt before. You feel yourself extremely tired, even your legs wobble heavily as you try to concentrate here. You keep your hand above the grimoire to emerge the hopefully last spell. As you hastily mummify her you attempt not to socialize with this easily agitated noble too much. You blanket is quick to rejuvenate her.
>>
“Oh yes,” she groans as her visible cuts begin to close from under the magical, silvery glow, “That’s the stuff. Like I though, a small, pathetically weak healing spell is all I needed. This is not going to help Tresses when I’m done with her our next duel.” Just a few seconds after your cloth disappears into the thin air, the girl slams her hands into the ground and takes a hand stand. She swings both of her legs in an arc, almost hitting you straight in the face, before she stands up straight and glares down at you, “You best learn a better spell when that happens.”

You spend 13 mana

“I don’t plan on becoming a healer,” you mumble. You try not to make eye contact with her, “I’m a tailor.”

“Ha?” he lips break into a frown, “A tailor? Who needs those?” You quickly look at her clothes. Indeed, she has the cheapest and least fashionable looking shirt and pants and cloak of them all, as if made from table cloth.

You feel yourself struggling with your wording. You really -hate- nobles.

[Update 1/1]

You give the woman a short and brief, “I’m glad you are safe with no grave injuries,” before you turn away and jump off the platform. You enter the benches without giving her any additional attention. You awkwardly give the small gathering of people in here a look, and some of them even acknowledge you. You carry on walking through the benches in search of Lilth and Pero. Still, you are unable to find them anywhere you look. Did they go back?

You cover your mouth to hide your yawn as you quickly glance at the blue-haired girl: you can still see her shrieking on the platform. You try not to cross your eyes with hers; she is not only a noble but also an insane one at that. The other two women have already been carried away from here. You gather a strand of your red hair to cover your eyes as you make a quick attempt to return back to the workshop to finish the rest of today’s quota…

“Good job!” Sol slaps heavily slaps your shoulder and raises one of her thumbs up at you.

“I-It’s nothing,” you reply back cumbersomely.

“What do you mean ‘nothing’?” she blinks, “I mean sure, some other mage could heal them too, but do you know how much it hurts until they do? It hurts a lot, being a Magic Knight is all about the pain and struggling through it.”

You shake your head at her; you never fought a single day in your life… this easily explains your healing magic.

“You don’t know? Have you never fought with any annoying boys? Or with any know-it-all bullies?” she exclaims, “This is going to be a problem when you join the Magic Knight, a huge one!”

“Which is why I won’t,” you answer her back, “I’m a tailor not a fighter. I need to finish the rest of the clothes now. Come back for your uniform tomorrow, Sol, I’m sure to get it fixed by then.” You wobble forward.

“Hey,” she shouts, “Are you sure you are okay? You don’t look too good.”

“It is my first time healing so many people at once,” you say, “I’ll get used to it.”

Despite charting a mental map for the shortest way back to your workshop, you still manage to get lost in the maze of stairs and corridors. It does not help that your workshop room, and its door, looks practically no different from all the others. It takes you no less than an hour to find your way back. Eventually, you find your place in particular thanks to the sounds coming from the inside. You struggle a few times with your hands before you finally manage to quietly open the door. Both Lilth and Pero and inside, and both of them are not working.

“She left this for her,” Lilth mutters as he holds Pero’s face with one hand and a strange bottle with another.

“Come on, Lil!” Pero complains as he tries to reach for the bottle with his short hands, “Just a sip-!”
>>
“What is gong on here?” you interrupt them. They both jump in place, visibly staggered. Pero is quick to backtrack to you and look at you with completely innocent eyes. You harrumph and look at Lilth instead, “That bottle?”

“Her name… she told us but I don’t remember,” he answers slowly, “She gave it for you as thank you.”

“As a thank you?” you approach Lilth to take the strange bottle into your hands. You expect it to immediately realize what it is – a wine bottle. The red alcohol inside of the brownish glass glows in unsteady overflow. You inspect the label on it to see a very expensive design, with a family of hedgehogs tossing grapes into a barrel.

“Did you want to drink this?” you ask Pero.

He pauses and then shrivels his eyes in annoyance, “Yeah, so what? I just wanted to try it. You are just a teenager too, are you not? And you are now going to drink it all by yourself! That’s unfair – You are an egomaniac!”

“I’m not,” you climb on top of one of the counters to place the battle on the top shelf, “I’ll return it later.”

Pero harrumphs as he quickly realizes you are keeping the bottle away from his reach. You approach one of the candles to light it and then you turn to the boys, “Did you enjoy the duels?” you ask awkwardly after a pause.

“They were interesting,” Lilth replies once Pero pouts and refuses to talk to you, “We saw you too.”

“Y-you did?” you ask him before you clumsily place your hands on your face, “They… asked me to help.”

“When Tresses is involved, battles rarely end up without injuries. Only the dumbest of Magic Knights fight her nowadays, but that was not the case a few years ago. I feel like she won’t be getting any challenges at all soon.”

That’s not nice thing to say to the respectable Magic Knights. You take a deep sigh to not mention and nag on Lilth for that; you’ll rather run away than have to fight against somebody who can ruin three knights by herself.

Pero’s ‘silence strike’ breaks. He grimaces and then smugly replies, “Yes, her magic is amazing. When I will finally get my grimoire, my magic is going to be awesome too!” Like a kid, he throws a few punches that follow with his own, makeshift sound effects, “Pow! Pwah! And they are done! Nobody will ever say “no” to me and my magic!”

Lilth adjusts his glasses, “I imagine my spells will be of defensive or restraining or supplementary form.”

Pero follows, “That’s so boring! All you need is offensive spells! Remember that time Olyver with his magic-”You sigh and yawn, “Before it gets too dark, let’s finish the rest of the clothes and then we can eat.”

“Hey Thia!” Pero quickly approaches you with an open hand, “Let me help you with my magic.”

“Your magic?” you question him and you lower your head closer to his, “Yes, that will be a great he-”
>>
“Sleep,” he whispers before he snaps his fingers right before your face. You don’t even have the energy to fight this. Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. You can’t help but focus on this word. What does sleep mean to you? Some warm tea, your comfortable sleeping clothes and a cosy winter blanket. Sleep. It is when your muscles tire and you are left alone with your own dreams and thoughts, protected from the outside world. Sleep. A well-deserved sleep…

You wake up in cold sweat in what appears to the middle of the night. Your hair is all messed up and you can barely feel the arm you found yourself sleeping on, it takes you a few minutes to have the blood return to it. How long have you been asleep? At least a few hours. You feel as tired as before. You struggle through the darkness to find and open the door to the hallway. Even the chandeliers here are dimmed now, though that is just enough light for you to light up another candle. You take a good look through your workshop; it is in the same state you saw it before falling asleep. You jump as soon as you hear a snorting noise – you grab some scissors to protect yourself before you slowly approach the aggravated body. You recognize Lilth, even with his glasses on the floor.

You quickly glance to the shelves to notice the bottle of wine missing.

[Update 1/1]

You grab the scarlet-haired boy by his shoulders; you begin to shake him. You remove your grip almost as soon as he wakes up. The boy winces at you; he quickly covers his eyes with his palm, as if in discomfort. His eyes are of beautiful aquamarine hue; it is a shame he is hiding them behind his… You pick up his enchanted glasses and help him put them over his eyes. The magical glasses flash up as soon as they are engulfed by his body’s mana. Once again, his eyes appear completely hollow and white behind his magical instrument.

“W-where?” he takes a few short glances around the poorly-lit workshop, “Oh, I see…”

“Lilth,” you grip your hands in order to calm yourself, “This is not a joke. What happened? What did Pero do to us?” He cautiously keeps his gaze (despite it being concealed) away from you, you practically have to make a circle and shove your face into his to face him. “Lilth, Pero took the bottle of wine with him. You should be worried.”

Lilth quickly glances at the shelf. He pauses, as if calculating the possibilities, “He’s only seven years old.”

“If he takes even a sniff of that bottle, he’s going to get himself in trouble, Lilth. Do you understand that?”

“I understand,” he pauses and sighs, “He used his magic on you, Cynthia, and on me too. It is a strange one…”

“Strange?” you stand up from your curtsy in order to rush towards the door, “Come on, tell me on our way.”

“Where are you… ah, we going?”

“To Olyver, of course,” you harrumph, “He knows you better than I. Pero likes Olyver, he might be with him.”

“Unlikely,” Lilth catches his breathe as he attempts to keep up with your fast pace.

It is a very early evening outside. All the lanterns and chandeliers are bright lit because of the darkness outdoor. What a waste of a day! You grind your teeth in annoyance, it is not easy to make you angry but Pero managed to do it; you are going to force him to work those hours you and Lilth had slept, even if he hast to work until the very morning. You turn back when you realize Lilth has decided against finishing his sentence. “Unlikely?” you echo.

“Y-yes,” he coughs before taking another sharp breath, “That’s not something Olyver would approve, and Pero respects… huh… hah… him a whole lot, so he is going to make sure he will not disappoint him like that.”

“Too late for that,” you harrumph as you stop before two doors. Which one was the correct one?

“If you tell Olyver, he is not going to forgive you.”

“Right now, the only thing I care about is him causing havoc,” you rush into the left tunnel, “And us getting in trouble because of him. Now, stop obviously delaying this, Lilth. It’s very clear. Tell me about his magic.”
>>
“Right… hah… huh… You saw that it worked on me too,” he catches his breath, “Please, not so fast. It’s because it’s not your usual fire or water or other existent affinity magic. Even without a grimoire, he is able to cast, what he calls, ‘Mindworm Magic’.” That doesn’t sound good or promising. “I saw him use it a few times, and he used it on me, too. It’s a dangerous magic. Don’t tell him I told you if he asks, please, say you figured it out yourself.”

“Of course, of course,” you wave your hand at him, “I won’t. But if he’s drunk on wine and using his magic…”

“Huh… aha… I understand, yes,” he heavies, “What he does is he says a single word, like it was ‘Sleep’ in our case. Then he forces the magic into that word and everyone who hears his finger snap is forced to concentrate on that word. Because you and I were tired, it was very easy for us to concentrate on that… ‘concept’.”

“That’s…”

“Very dangerous, and because Pero is Pero… he is not too mature to realize how wrong what he is doing is.”

“Seven is old enough,” you grumble. That is no excuse.

Finally, the two of you find the door of the original workshop: Olyver’s workshop. You hesitate, you really did not want to interact Olyver until the end of the week. For him, you are a person who is not only going to, possibly, cost him his position, but also his chance of becoming a Magic Knight. Before you went to sleep yesterday, you struggled with this thought a lot. Was it right for you to do this? Surely, you don’t care for this position as much as Olyver does? You do not have any plans to stay here for any long time, just long enough to earn plenty yuls to help your shop… and then what? It’s not unlikely they’ll hire Olyver back when you leave, so this should be a problem right? Charlotte is not a cruel woman; she will allow him to take the Magic Knight and leave a space for him in the Blue Rose; he’s going to be the first male knight in the Blue Rose one way or the other, you are sure.

You put your thought aside as you begin knocking on the door. Soon, the door opens but this time you are ready for the powerful blast of hot steam to burst out of the open door. You and Lilth enter the door to find Olyver with his grimoire cleaning and ironing and applying other finishing touches to a whole line of blue and white clothes.

“Cynthia,” he closes the distance between the two of you and grabs you into a hug. He releases after your short struggle to break free, “What brings you… Woah, you look horrible! Yes, I see, it is your first day after all!” His grimoire changes its position as soon as he puts his hand above your face, “Here, let me…”

“No, wa-”
>>
You shout to stop him, but it is too late. A massive gust of vapour strikes your face and body, it quickly dampens your features and hair and clothes. You struggle to see. You can feel the hot wind massaging your figure; it’s too close and personal, as if it was caressing you. The temperature raises even higher. Your mind becomes a haze as you begin to cling for something cold: air, water, be it even ice-cream! Your previously barebones, messed up, hair is now clean and sharp, your face is glistering and your clothes are as fresh, cosy, sharp and straight as new.

Olyver stands still, “No need to thank me, I’m almost done here anyway.” How can he be so full of strength?

You take a quick glance into the mirror. You huff on one strand of her that falls on your eyes to fix it, “I won’t.”

He pauses as he points his finger at your clothes, “I really want to know how that shirt was made. Can you le-”

“Olyver,” Lilth interrupt him before you blow up completely. You approach the lonely window Olyver has in his workshop to open it and breathe in the cold, outside air. That’s better. You were about to faint there for a second.

Olyver grabs Lilth by his hand into a firm handshake, “God, you look horrible too! You two might be busy with the clothes of others, but nobody is going to take you seriously or entrust you with their clothes if you look like that.”

Is he going to be teaching you, now?

“Here,” Olyver speaks at he raises his grimoire before Lilth.

You interrupt Olyver by grabbing his shoulder and turning him towards yourself, “We are not here for chit-chat,” you complain, “We are searching for Pero, your little friend. Do you have any idea where he might be?”

“Pero?” Olyver pauses. Lilth sighs in relief that he avoided the “spa treatment”. “Wouldn’t he be with Viktor and Cruz in their room? They left a few hours ago, so they should be together. Did you already make him run away?”
“No,” you say, “I mean… If he’s with the other two they might be drinking wine right now.”

“Wine?” Olyver blinks and shakes his head, “I don’t think I understand. Sorry, was the steam too intense?”

“One of the Magic Knights gave me a wine bottle as a gift for healing them, but I was not there to see who it was.”

“Who would gift a bottle of wine to a kid?” he asks. He is the same age as you.

“He doesn’t remem-”

“It was Tugela.”

“You… said you don’t know…” you slowly turn your angry eyes at Lilth. He immediately glances away.

“Tugela?” Olyver rubs under his chin, “Draken… The Goat Knight. Yes, I can see -her- doing that in earnest.”

[Update 1/1]

“I’ll go with you just to make sure Pero is there and he’s not going to cause any more problems today.”

Olyver forces his grimoire shut and then places it into his… quite beautiful, book pouch. You consider making one for yourself. He gives you a nonchalant nod before he picks up the key with his air magic and moves to the exit.

Once he locks the door, he turns his attention to Lilth. Around Olyver, your assistant swiftly opens up. On your way towards their room, the two of them engage in long and playful talk. It is rather obvious to you that those two are good friends and that Olyver is highly respected – this is not something you can just repeat with a week of time. You begin to ignore the dialogue once they start discussing the more gruesome details of today’s duels.

The three of you stop in front of the door (their room being so much closer to Olyver’s workshop relative to the distance you have to go through). Olyver knocks it several times, as if warning the boys inside to get ready. He then opens it with a slight bump of his shoulder and lets Lilth inside. He holds it open for you, too.

That’s a boy’s room, right? “It’s alright,” you tell him in short awkwardness, “Just tell me if he is there or not.”

Olyver chuckle and shrugs his shoulders, “Suit yourself, this might be your only chance to see secrets of trade.”

“That’s fine,” you tell him with a short hesitation.

Before he can enter inside and lock the door, Lilth kneels and stands up between the two of you. Catching on his breathe, he adjusts his glasses and speaks out, “Pero is not here,” he says, “He did not return back to his bed.”

Curses. You panic as you look at Olyver.

The brunette boy pales, “There is no way he left the base without anybody noticing, which means he should be somewhere in the mansion. I’m sure he’ll try to hide himself drinking it, so he’s somewhere with not a lot of people, maybe in a basement or a mansion,” he says. He hesitates, “We have to find him before any trouble.”

This is going to be on your head if anything bad happens. That boy deserves at least a whipping after this. Olyver is quick to call for Lilth and the two other boys in order to spread out the search; you agree to assist him. You follow your first intuition to go to the dinning hall, where you find Elvira working as hard as ever. You were right to assume that the dinning hall and kitchen have many hiding spots, as Elvira confirms. Luckily, she is aware of all of them. The two of you haste through the cupboards and underfloor preservation rooms but Pero is nowhere to be found. After a prolonged search and after thanking the apologizing Elvira for her help, you continue the search.
>>
Eventually, you stumble upon Olyver. You find him standing in hesitation before a luxurious, half-open door.

“Olyver,” you refer to him by name. He jolts in surprise. “How is the search going?” You ask.

“You… you have good intuition,” he says as he slowly raises his hand towards the door, “He’s inside.”

You look into the dark shadow cloaking the entire room from the inside, “How do you know?”

“I can sense Pero’s mana, it’s something you get used to when you work with somebody for a long time…”

“Then what are you waiting for? Quick, grab him and bring him back to sleep this over.”

“That’s what I want to do,” he insists, “But… You don’t know whose room this is, do you?”

“Of course not,” you harrumph, “It’s my first day. Who cares, we can apologize. They’ll understand.”

“No,” Olyver grimly shakes his head, “This is the room of the Wardress. She’s just below the Vice-Captain.” He takes a cautious glance around the empty hallway. He hushes, “She -hates- kids. She absolutely despises them.”

“Well we are not-”

“And adolescents too. The Vice-Captain and Captain are the only people here she shows any respect for.”

“What are you saying?”

“If she catches us inside her room, I can’t even imagine what our punishment is going to be…”

> “How can you even think about leaving a drunk child in there? That boy respects you.”
> “If you don’t want to help him, then I won’t either. We’ll share the bad karma.”

[Update 1/1]

You furrow your eyebrows at Olyver. You know Pero for no longer than a day, but he is supposed to be his friend, his older brother-like figure. You approach the half-opened door with vigilance. Placing your hand on the door side, you glance inside into the darkness. You follow this by a couple of knocks on the outer side of the door…

“Pero, are you there?” you whisper inside. No answer. “Pero, are you there? Get back here.” You repeat. Nothing.

“What are you doing?” Olyver speaks out in a worry.

“I’m trying to get him to walk out,” you say, “But he’s not answering.” You sigh as you turn to the hesitating master tailor, “How can you even think about leaving a drunk child in there? That boy respects you.” You push the door to open to a width big enough to enter, “She’s not here, is she? If we do this quickly, she won’t even realize we were inside.” You nod your head, “If we leave him there then she’ll is going to find him for certain. Let’s go.”

Struggle forms on Olyver’s face. This mistake may cost him not only his position but his chance of becoming a Magic Knight. Eventually, however, he agrees with your reasoning. The two of you enter the dark room and close the door behind you, just to avoid any further suspicions. It takes a few minutes for your eyes to adjust to the darkness, but eventually, you stumble on a body of a boy you were looking for – Pero. It appears that a bottle of wine won the battle with the seven-year-old. You can see the extent of his drunken rampage: several trashed books, an exotic, shattered vase, a shattered teapot and the wine bottle itself (most of its content now forming a puddle on the floor). Even in this dark, you can see Olyver’s face pale – you don’t have time to clean up.

“This is the first time he did something like this,” Olyver explains mid-panic.

You take a deep breath to calm yourself, “And it will be the last time in his life if we don’t leave now.”

Olyver kneels before the snoring boy and join you in shaking his body, “Aren’t all adults like this when they drink?” He asks.
>>
“I don’t know,” you mutter, “Nobody in my family drinks.”

The door slowly creaks open. It does. Before you can even react, Olyver grabs you by your hand and pulls you behind the massive table. Knowing none of or caring not for issues of personal space, he places his hand over your mouth to shut you up. He puts his other hand over his own mouth. He is so silent you can hear his heartbeat.

A loud, metallic step follows and echoes. Then another. The heavy iron sabatons stop when they approach the body of the boy. You take a quick glance to see a tall woman. Too dangerous. Olyver sits in utter silence, he is keeping even his own eyes shut. Strange, there is no reaction from the woman, as if this is of no surprise to her or… she knew what to expect. Suddenly, a burst of white magic, like a massive bright iridescent wave, spreads through the room. You manage not to scream in pain from the sudden brightness. It does not last for long. All the candles in the room, however, end up lit and glowing, but in a strange manner – the flames are all pure-white.

“Ah-ah-ah,” Pero cries as he opens his eyes and looks at the woman, “That hurts, that hur-”

A sudden, loud and painful slap follows. Pero, who was struggling to stand up, ends up slammed onto the floor.

He cries in pain. You can hear the boy scratching the wooden floor to rush away from the woman. Slowly, like his shadow, she follows him. “Wait-wait-wait-wait,” the boy is obviously afraid, but is also sick from all the alcohol. He strikes the wooden wall with his head, the shelves tremble from the impact and several more books and clay objects end up scattered all over the floor. “Surrender! Surrender! Surrender!” A sudden finger snap follows.

A flow of melancholy begins to flow through your body and mind. Curses. You forgot to close your ears…
Surrender, what does surrendering even mean? Suddenly, you can’t help but concentrate on this one word alone. You taste it. Should you surrender the boy to his fate? It is his fault, after all. Or should it be you who needs to surrender? For what? From what battle? The current contest between you and him? All you want is to help your family, to keep the shop your mother practically died for. It won’t be fair for you to surrender that just because you are weak or lazy, will it? But, no… That’s just a façade. Your true surrender are your ambitions; your desires…

You yielded to the love of family… You surrendered your daydreams to fate and to the hopes of your father.

You snap out of it. Why were you so concentrated, so baffled? Pero’s magic, that’s all his fault – again.

The woman remains standing still. It looks as if the snap had no effect on her. She raises her hand for a slap.

[Update 1/1]

You slide your hand over your face as another loud slap ricochets. Pero’s sobs muffle through pain. You look at Olyver who is still keeping himself hidden. There must be something to this Wardress that you are not aware of. You take a deep, audible breathe which wakes Olyver from his lethargy. You give him a stern glance, as if judging him. His eyes swiftly look behind the table; he begins to furiously shake his head at you. ‘Don’t do it’ - it means.

You push yourself up to face her. Pero deserves a punishment, but not a full fledge beating like some cur dog. Your body freezes when the tall woman, four heads taller than you, look straight at you with her grey-blue eyes. In the uncannily serene, white brightness of the candlelight, the shadow of her tall body consumes you. You try to take a step forward but a sudden, overwhelming sense of dread and inferiority demands you to stop. No, it is not merely your imagination…

It comes at birth and improves with age that people are able to sense the mana of others. A peasant might easily lose his conscious at the presence of a royal blood but the royal will barely notice the country bumpkin or his mana. The royals are all born and gifted with large reserves of mana, as well as natural disposition to intuitively wield magic… however, this is the first time in your entire life you stand face to face with a person this powerful.

After a brief pause, the Wardress picks up the young by his wrist and easily lifts him a few meters above the ground, “What a mistake for Captain Charlotte it was to hire you,” her voice is as rough and painful as a sandpaper, “I told her it was a mistake. Yet, she took pity. And this is how you repair our kindness, by barging into my room. Stealing from me - thief,” she lifts Pero even closer to her the boy shivers, he can’t even mutter a word, “Ruining decade old artefacts with your dirty commoner hands - burglar.” She throws Pero rolling to your feet.

Despite her height, her uniform armour only exhibits her gracile body. Every piece of her armour set is gilded with intricate border decorations. Her Blue Rose cloak is just barely shorter than her Captain’s. Her hair is massive and lengthy - it reaches the floor. It is as spread out and spiky as a fir tree, although it is deep blue colour. A golden and thin hoop starts from her forehead like a bandana and then weaves up several times to the top of her head. In the cold, white light her steel armour, and her golden decorations, make her glow like some holy manifestation.

You gulp, “He did not-”

“I did not ask you,” the woman speaks out as she raises her hand, “I don’t need your excuses.”

“P-please,” Pero scowls as he grabs you by your skirt, “I wasn’t… I didn’t… I don’t remember.”
>>
“I knew you were in this room as soon as you entered,” she says, “With your pitiable mana. Stand up.”

Of course, who wouldn’t enchant their rooms with protection? And she was made aware that you and Olyver entered as soon as you did. You shake your head you place your hand on Pero’. Olyver, once he realizes there is no use of hiding, stands up to face her too. It is clear on his face; he too is overwhelmed by her mana. As soon as Pero notice Olyver, he slides his grip off you to scream at him, “Olyver, p-please! I’m sorry. Please, save me.”

Olyver bite his lip in hesitation. Still, he is more responsible than not. He takes out his grimoire to face her.

“Using your grimoire on me – assailant,” Wardress speaks out. Her own grimoire is still in her pouch! “This is the only warning I am going to give you, boy. He shall be punished, and then we will return him to the streets where a rat like him belongs. But there is nothing but breaking into my room that I need to punish you two for, is there?” A collection of five bright, white flames begins to circle around her body. “But assist him, and I’ll banish you, too.”

> “He is just a kid. This is too much of a punishment for what he did. Please forgive him.”
> “Captain Charlotte is nice and kind, let her decide his punishment.”
> “What he did is my fault. If you want to punish him, punish me instead.”

[Update 1/2]

“W-wait,” you push your open palm forward before the Wardress. She doesn’t. You stutter on your words, “Please, at least let me heal him. Look at him, he is already beaten up.” You gulp as you pick up your grimoire.

“No,” her voice scraps your ears, “Pain is a punishment. If you heal him, I will just have to do it all over again.”

Is that not a bit excessive?

You shake your head at her rejection; she is not planning to cripple him, is she? Her iron boots clang as she stops before the struggling seven-year old; Pero is still attempting to grab a hold of struggling Olyver. It is clearly visible on master tailor’s face that he is struggling with this situation, even more so than you. His fingers shiver on the belt of his grimoire pouch, his black eyes lessen to the size of a pea. When his gaze stops on Pero, he grits his teeth. “This is not right,” he speaks out towards the Wardress, “He won’t survive on the streets, you know it. Wardress Virginia,” he gulps, “Pero is in our care, it is only right to spread his punishment between us.”

“It is my final decision that he is to banished from the Blue Rose, and if you wish so, you will follow in his steps.”

“But-”

“Don’t make me repeat myself twice,” the Wardress picks up Pero by his shirt, “Wrong the Blue Rose – criminal.” One her many flames hastily hovers towards the exit door, “Now, you are to leave before you are punished too.”

[Update 2/2]

You look at Pero with a semi-honest apology before you push your grimoire into your pouch and pace towards the exit. You can hear the boy sob in fear as Olyver, too, turns away from him. You do not hear what the two of them say to each other, but the head tailor leaves and locks the door at the same time as you. Once the massive door loudly snaps shut and quiets the noises inside, he leans on the door and sighs. The look on his face is one of guilt.

“How did it turn out like this?” he asks as he tries to grab your wrist for comfort. You tuck it away.

“Don’t feel guilty,” you respond in calm, “He might be a child, but he knew what he was doing was wrong.” You do put your hand on Olyver’s shoulder to reassure him, “Just because he is fired from here does not mean his life is over. It will be useless to get fired here just to make him feel better. You and I need this position, don’t we?”

He turns to face you with a half-assured smile. He slaps your back with no warning… thrice, “You are right.”

You narrow your eyes at him; so touchy. You turn away, “I’m sure we’ll hear more about him later.” You wave your hand at him in a send-off. If there is somebody who should be unhappy with this situation – it is you. Now you have one less person to assist you with your already overwhelming trade. Lilth is going to have to pick up some slack. You ponder how unlikely it is going to be for them to hire another errand boy: considering the Wardress’ words, highly dubious. You sigh as decide to find Sol before going to sleep, despite how tired you are.

It does not take you long, you meet her in the beautiful main hall, where a several other Magic Knights can be seen preparing for something… special? Perhaps another mission of theirs? It seems that Magic Knights are send on night missions extremely often, but then again, it is more likely for criminals to act up at night. Still, despite the short glances from everybody around you, you find Sol doing a flexing exercise, her body is -extremely- stretchy.

“Well isn’t it the tailor-healer girl?” she speaks out as she continues her warms ups, “Are you going to join in?”

“Join in?” you ask her in suspicion. “I’m not a Magi-”

“Yeah, yeah, I know,” she interrupts you with a light-hearted annoyance, “Tresses injure my usual pair, I can use a healer.”

“For what?” you ask as you hush your voice and glance at all the Magic Knights. At least six faces you see for the first time are discussing something between themselves. “Isn’t this too much people for one mission?”

“For a mission, yeah,” Sol smirks as she put her elbow before her head, “But they are all going for the ‘Blue Rose’.”
>>
You look at her in confusion. Nope, this doesn’t right a bell, aren’t they already part of the ‘Blue Rose’?

Sol sighs, “You know nothing, Cynthia. Alright, I’ll explain just so the nobles don’t bully you further. Basically, it’s the hardest challenge sister Charlotte made for us, and she isn’t not even forcing us to do it! It’s like she’s saying ‘are you a woman enough to do this?’ It’s such a tease, such a challenge! You have at least seen the outside garden, right? You did. Well, you see, there’s a giant maze behind the headquarters, an enchanted labyrinth filled with all sorts of magical traps. Sister placed one of her seeds in the centre of the maze, and on very rare occasions, it blooms into a Blue Rose, if you can reach it. Sister is willing to assign you with the hardest and most special missions if you can return the rose to her.” Her eyebrows furrow as her face darkens, “This is my 32nd time trying.”

Life of a Magic Knight is not easy, you conclude.

“Still, if you not here for that,” Sol says, “Then is there anything else you need?”

> “Yes. This woman… Tugela Draken, where can I find her?”

[Update 1/2]

You decide to tell Sol all about what transpired in Wardress’ room, and the small details that lead to it. She stops her exercising once you reach the part when Wardress started hitting the young boy and threatened to fire you, too. Sol listens without interrupting you, her usually self-confident demeanour is replaced with one of concern.

Eventually, she sighs and shrugs, “If he got in trouble with the sister Virginia, there is no helping him.”

“At all?” you ask her in plea.

“At all,” she shakes her head, “His fate was sealed once he entered her room. She might be physical and cruel, but that is only when you anger her – she’s as much feared as respected and that’s why sister Charlotte gave her this position. He’s a stupid boy. Even if he did not steal from sister Virginia, he still stole it from you – did he not? He is still a thief. And sister Virginia is a big collector, and values all the mementos on her shelves. She is unhappy even if you simply look at them, I can’t imagine how pissed off she was when she discovered them all broken like that!”

You sigh; defeated. “I see,” you give her a short nod, “It’s only my first day and I am already one person less. Do you know about his magic? Isn’t it better to keep an eye on him, who know what he might do with it outside?”

“I don’t think there’s anything you can do for him. You will only get into more problems if you try to.” She pauses, “Maybe if you throw Tugela under the horse and tell sister Charlotte that she gave you alcohol she might interfere, but I would advice you rather not. Sure, it was a mistake, but she’s a powerful Knight and he’s just an errand boy.” She slaps your shoulder, “So, just forget about this. I should be getting ready now. Anything else?”

[Update 2/2]

This situation might be above your head. You thank Sol for her advice as you turn away from her to leave.

“Are you sure you don’t want to join me in?” she harrumphs as she begins adjusting her belt.

“Sorry,” you gingerly nod your head, “I have a lot of work to do tomorrow now.” You explain, “Now that Pero will not be here, I’m going have to work slightly harder, and I still have your uniform to fix up – remember? Besides, I’m ready to fall asleep any moment now, I’m not sure I’ll be able to use my healing magic in that state.”

“Yeah,” she whistles into the air, “Sorry about that.”

You spin on your toes as you continue walking backwards. You wave your hands at her, as if asking her to relax. “Don’t worry about it,” you say with an innocent smile, “Maybe some other time. Tell me if you get lucky.”

Sol raises her thumb and grunts in approval. She is battle ready; you are happy for her. You sigh as you take a glance at every other Magic Knight in the hall. Now that every one of them sees you leave, they stop glaring daggers at you; they no longer see you as an arrogant brat and a competitor, or so you assume. You pass by the now empty halls before you enter your room. You go through a struggle to dress into your sleeping clothes. The spells on the pages of the grimoires are powerful, even yours, and cost immense amount of mana to use. This is the first time in your life you had to use so many spells, and it is draining. In addition to that, your body still trembles and sweats from the prevailing mana of Wardress Virginia. You conclude that it was smart not to fight her.

That night you have the same dream as you always do when you are stressed, only this time the sky is painted with dyes of fairy-tale: beautiful purple, swirling yellow and sparkling blue. You do not know the significance.

Your mana has been restored.

The next morning you wake up with a headache, a rather obnoxious use, rather early. You visit the dining hall and pick your food from the errand lady that is not Elvira, she is rather grump and silent woman, as well as big boned. She places some fried eggs on your plate together with some vegetables and a sauce you can’t figure out the origin of even after you eventually taste it – for certain it is made out of exotic and mana fulfilling berries… fruits? Regardless, you pick the only table that nobody else is sitting behind, as you do not really wish to butt in with the other Magic Knights who likely have more important thing to discuss among each other. You find that Olyver, Lilth and the other two boys are sharing a table not far from you. You see an empty chair there... was it for Pero?
>>
Once you raise your fork to bite on another, surprisingly delicious vegetable (Sol did not lie about the level of meals that they serve in those Headquarters). Whichever farms they bring those vegetables and eggs from, they are not the places you and your father will be able to afford to buy from once a day… no, even once a week.

“Hey,” familiar voice shouts as she slaps the table with all her might, “Commoner. You are the one who healed me, right? You are supposed to be our new tailor. Good,” she slaps the table a few times, “I need something.”

You gulp the egg bits as you narrow your eyes, “O-of course, just come by the tailor shop when I…”

“I don’t need some new, fancy, frou-frou clothes. Make my uniform resistant to Tresses’s attacks,” the woman with incredibly obnoxious, blue hair shaped like an explosion of cubes speaks out. Her mint-hued eyes stare you down, “You can do at least that much, can’t you? The captain said as much. I don’t care for the cost of it, y’hear?”

You cough, “I’m not sure it’s something I can-”

[Update 1/1]

You place your fork on the table. The food is going to get cold. You shake your head as you return to eating it in-between your answers; be she noble or not you are hungry, and you still have day’s worth of work waiting for you at the workshop. You take a sip of the tea before you look back at her. Her teeth tremble and grind in irritation.

You sigh. “What attacks does Tresses have? What kind of spells are they?”

“Did you not see?” she shouts, “Looks, look,” she follows as she motions her body forward to display to you her ripped and cut uniform, “That’s all from her attacks, from her damn hair magic. She can transmute her hair into all sorts of weapons, but much sharper and stronger. Scythe, swords, maces, spears, axes, polearms - too many.”

“Right,” you awkwardly turn the fork in your hands, “There might be a way to do it if I can get magical dye. The woman who produces them lives far away, though.” You tell her as you narrow your eyes, “And I am busy.”

“It’s a personal request, a personal request,” she shouts as she begins pointing her fingers at her chest, “Do you want a good word for the Captain from me? I don’t want to be worrying about my clothes when I’m fighting her.”

“I am currently short-staffed, and I have a lot of things to take care of. I can’t just leave my assistant by himself.”

“Pfeh,” she harrumphs at you as she finally leans off your table, “Where is it?”

“In Kiten,” you answer after a brief thought, “Her house should be the furthest, near the forest.”

“That’s far,” she complains and stretches her neck and back, “The Captain is not going to let me leave there.”

You shrug half-apologetically, “This job is very important to me. I can’t just leave for two days to get you your-”

She grunts and kicks the table with her knee, “Then I am going to just tell Captain you did not deliver.”

You blink and gasp. “I -healed- you!” you break your emotionless ceiling, “This is how you say thank you?”

“It was your duty, as a commoner towards your noble,” she hisses back unkindly, “Now fulfil your other one.”

“Heyma,” a sudden voice of another woman bleats, “Alice, are you causing a comamaotion again?” she says light-heartedly as she leans on the shoulder of the other Knight, “All this anger is bad for your face beauty, y’know?”

“Let me go, commoner!” the nobel magic knight shouts as she then harshly shoves her away from herself.

“That’s not nice,” she says as she avoids another push and surrounds her ‘friend’ in another hug, “Deep breathe, Alice.” Is she not…?

“You!!!” you slap the table as you point your finger at the Goat Knight.
>>
“Me?” the ivory-hailed woman looks at you with innocence. She places her finger to her chin in a thought, “Hma,” she bends her head, “Oh yeah,” she winks playfully, “Got it, you are the little healer. Hope you liked my present.”

You run your fingers through your red hair, “No. Please, tell the third girl not to thank me in any way.” You groan.

“Hma?” she takes a big jump to stand right behind you and place her hands on your shoulders. You throw a quick glance to meet her surreal, orange eyes. “I’ll tell you what – you are not cute when you are mad either. Cheer up.”

The Magic Knight, that you now know as Alice, has her arms crossed on her chest. You wager that she is serious.
She harrumphs, “This half-commoner half-tailor here refuses to take on my request. Too busy for a noble.”

> “Captain gave me a mission too. My mission is to do my best as a tailor while I am working -in here-.”
> “You are unreasonable. I can’t just leave for two days to get a good evaluation from you.”
> “You have more free time than I do right now. Bring me the dyes and I’ll try to do your request.”

[Update 1/1]

“Captain gave me a mission too. My mission is to do my best as a tailor while I am working -in here-.”

Alice scowls at you, “Once you regret it – I told you so.”

You sigh as you move one of your hands to push Tugela off your shoulders, ““You are unreasonable. I can’t just leave for two days to get a good evaluation from you. Why don’t you just wear armour like the Captain does?”

“Yeah, why don’t you?” Tugela bleats and then pauses. She looks at you and then her, “I think she does, actually.”

“Of course, I freaking do,” Alice shouts in anger as she slams your table one more time, “But even the captain does not wear a full suit of armour, and my magic is going to SUFFER if I am unable to move freely! Y’understand?!”

“I do,” you sigh, “I do,” you give her a nod, “If this request of yours will come from the Captain herself, I will oblige. Until then, please wait patiently until I am finished with this challenge. You can wait a week, can’t you?”

She bends her entire torso and spine to the side and moans, “FREAKING FINE,” she shouts as she straightens like a spring, “You’ll have to keep repairing those good-for-nothing rags until then,” she follows with a poke of her thumb towards her clothes, “Likely… every day. EVERY DAY.”

“Of course,” you stand up from the table and pick up your dish, “That is my job,” you smile at her.

The eccentric woman storms off the dining hall, and all the curious eyes, even from Olyver’s group, eventually look away from you. You really have a knack for catching the wrong attention, do you not? You shake your head as you return to look back at the Goat Knight. Now that you look closer, she has a few distinct details to her clothes that the other Blue Rose Magic Knights do not. Aside from her typical, plate armour, her clothes are made out of cotton. Her shirt is one size bigger than she is yet despite it, it’s sleeveless; her skirt reaches far below her knees. On her hands and legs, she has, what appears to be, dark-blue fleece warmers. In short: no sense of style.

“Can I talk to you in private?” you ask Tugela once you clean up the dishes.

“Why? Of course,” she caringly springs to your side and leans her ear to your face, “What’s worrying you?”

“It’s about your present…”

“Oh,” she whispers back, “I get it. I get it, yes, I do in fact know where to get maore. I knew you’d like it.”

“I am a minor!” you try not to shout as you begin to explain the whole story of her present and how the situation turned out in Pero’s sacking. She continues to listen and nodding to your story, though she never shows surprise.

“I see, I see,” she begins to rub your chin before stopping, “Oh,” she smiles and puts her hand to her chin to do the same thing, “What you are saying is that you did not even try it. A shamae, a shamae. Virginia likes her wine too.”
>>
“I am now one person less,” you hang your head dejectedly, “Can you talk to the Wardress and tell her what really happened? That boy still broke inside her room… she will not be lenient but I still think it’s the right thing to do.”

“Well,” she prolongs as her orange eyes dart to the ceiling, “Sure. I’ll go talk.”

You blink. You pause, shake your head and then blink again, “Y-you will? It’s the Wardress, you know?”

“Sure,” she leans forward and knocks her tongue, “Didn’t you ask mae just now? She’s a good waoman!”

“T-thank you,” you give her nod as you raise your head. The woman has already escaped the room with a rush.

Several minutes later, you return to the workshop. By the time you make a few adjustments, Lilth enters the clock and begins the preparations and repairs the two of you missed on yesterday. You make attempts to start small talk yet, by the time you reach the topic of Pero and what had happened, he tells you that he already heard everything from Olyver. The boy is keeping himself absent from any potential dialogue, he is not blaming you, is he?

The two of you spend the rest numerous hours working in this atmosphere. Despite the heavy air, you two manage to form a simple system: you first repair the biggest rips and other damages on the clothes and then hang the clothes to Lilth who goes through the more manageable fixes and finishing details of the clothes. Second, he returns those clothes to you, after which you clean and soften and improve their structure once again with your magic. Third, you once more give the clothes back to Lilth who washes them in the soft-boiling waters. Despite him not telling you, it was not hard for you to discover that the boy has water magic. You knew that he would not be able to hide it for long; the people are born with magic to assist them in their daily lives, just like here now.

Still, you remain worried about Tugela and her talk with the Wardress. Even Sol is afraid of her, how come Tugela was not? Is she just soft-minded? Not to that extent, right? When somebody eventually knocks on your door you practically rush to open it – you can’t wait to hear the news. You open the door only to see a person you did not expect standing there – Elvira. The older woman quickly places her hands together. She fidgets in her place.

“H-hello,” she speaks out, “I-I have a break now. Do you mind I come in? Maybe we can talk about… stuff?”

She looks inside to notice Lilth, who gives her a bland expression. Elvira hastily looks away from him in embarrassment. You wave your hand, as if to say not to worry about him. You give the woman a nod.

[Update 1/1]

“You are… very busy,” the adult woman comments as the takes a quick glance around the room. She puts her best effort not to look towards the unfriendly boy. “I-I’m not saying y-you are slow,” she blushes, “Kitchen is like that too.”

You smile courteously. You nod your head towards one of the few chairs by the wall which you use typically use to hang the pants and skirts you have no other space to put at, “I’m more than happy for some company.”

“I heard,” she gently knocks her knees against each other as she finally takes a sit, “That you are having a challenge with the tailor boy for his position? That’s amazing, and you were just recently hired too…”

“You should challenge the chef for their position as well,” you joke. She begins to furiously shake her hands.

“T-there is no way, I only know the bare necessities, and even then, I only know them because of what the chef taught me,” her smile is barely visible, “Where I am now already is high enough… How are -you- doing?”

“Could be better,” you say as you neatly spread out and surge some mana into heavily destroyed cloth on the table before yourself, “Things happened on my first day because my assistant decided to steal…” Lilth looks at you with visible distaste – as if he dislikes the fact that you are bringing up Pero’s situation to outsiders. It is not a lie, only truth! You sigh as you turn back to Elvira. You grumble. “Let me just say that we are now one person short.”

She gasps, “That sounds bad.”

“It is bad,” you exclaim as you remove a strand of damp hair off your face. All this mess is cracking your self-discipline. You hurry to change the topic, “But that will not stop me from winning this challenge. I need this job.” You slap and fold the cloth, “What about you? How did you end up working in here as the kitchen assistant?”

“O-oh,” she slides her hand over her neck to rub it, “It is nothing special,” she continues with a meek tone, “My family lives in the Forsaken Region and… and…” She pauses to gulp, as if ashamed of it, “So when the drought season hit our village, few years ago, we ended up with no means to feed ourselves. My mother and father are pretty old, so I did not have much of a choice when they send me to the Common Region to work for her friends. Rough times hit them too, and they had to laid me off.” She begins to rub under her cheeks, “I understand them… But I was unable to send my family any more money and I couldn’t return back like this… so, in a show of bravado I picked the first job notice on the notice board.” She smiles, “It was for the kitchen assistant for the Blue Rose.”

You blink, “I guess you must have really impressed them, then.”

“No, I just… got lucky,” she whispers, more to herself than towards you, “They now think they made a mistake.”

“Why do you say that?” you raise your eyebrow.
>>
“I… I… I think they were impressed by my unique magic,” she almost breaks, “But it’s just that, unique. Maybe they though it was going to be a big help on the kitchen – but no. I am a peasant, I have no mana like them…”

“O-oh, I’m sorry for asking,” you shrivel. Lilth gives you a dirty look. Oh, come on! You stand up from the counter to approach Elvira, who is trying her hardest not to shake. “I-I’m sure that’s not the only thing they hired you for.”

“Y-you think so?” she asks.

“Yeah,” you smile at her as you take a deep breath to relax yourself from all the mana overuse. “Even then, your magic is amazing, and you should not be wary of that. Arithmetic Magic, was it not? I can only imagine the limits.”

Just before she can answer, the door smashes wide open – Tugela does not even bother to knock. Joyful, and holding a bottle of wine in each of her hands, she enters the workshop with a loud ‘Sorry for the wait!’. She startles Elvira who quickly covers herself with her hands. You take a few steps to close the door behind her.

You look at her, semi-hopeful, “H-how did it go?”

She shakes her head with pure excitement – sporadically – neither up or down. “It’s all settled,” she finally speaks up as she places one of her hand over your shoulder, “It’s all good. Big sister here took care of everything-!”

“A-are you drunk?” you ask the over-happy Magic Knight.

“What?” she pouts and swiftly hits your forehead with her own. Painfully. OUCH! “No! I’m high on taste, the Blue Rose wine cellar is the best! You are not going to find wine as tasty as the one here… maybe in the Dawn’s cellar!” Tugela’s sparkling eyes are quick to set on Elvira, “That’s fast, you already found somaeone to replace the boy!”

“N-no,” Elvira comments as she stands up, “S-sorry, I have to return back to work now. It was-”

“Stay,” the Magic Knight comments as she practically pushes you towards Elvira. She grabs her into a tight hug by her shoulder with her other hand. The smell of alcohol hits you strong as the neck of her bottle touches your cheek, “Don’t worry about it. Where do you work? I think you are the night kitchen girl, aren’t you? I’ll talk this over with the Captain,” she belches like a sheep, though not as disgusting. She raises the other bottle to touch Elvira’s lips, “Come, drink, taste it – it’s good isn’t it? Best taste in the world, costs a fortune,” Her eyes stare you down and swiftly lower the other bottle away from you, “Ah, Virginia warned me. No alcohol for you girl. Sorry.”

You attempt to escape from her grip, but she does not give up. Lilth is just left there… standing, in shock. Elvira’s struggle is much less reluctant, and she quickly succumbs to Tugela’s pressure and begins sipping the alcohol.
>>
“S-so,” you mutter as you push your hands beneath your neck to free yourself, “Is he going to come back now?”

“Absolutely,” Tugela speaks out as she takes a swing from the other bottle, “Though his wage is going to be cut double until he can pay up for all for all those fancy things he broke. Expensive stuff.” She pauses and then points towards the door with one of her fingers, “And the two us two? We are going on an adventure!”

You blink, “What are you talking about? Ah-”

Her grip strengthens as she picks up both you and Elvira and takes a spin around herself, “In exchange for forgiving the boy Virginia wants us to do a small errand for her, you see? We’ll do it in… an hour, or two – we’ll see!”

You moan, “Did you not hear what I told the other Magic Knight?” you ask, “I can’t. I am very busy here.”

“Don’t worry,” she smacks your forehead with her own one more time – again, it’s incredibly painful, “It won’t take us longer than two hours. This girl here will replace you until then, right? What’s your name again?”

“Hick…” Elvira’s eyes begin to spin, obviously from the mix of wine and Tugela’s dance routine, “Elvira…”

[Update 1/1]

You huff, “Please, stop hitting my forehead! At this rate I am going to have to use my healing magic on myself!”

She grins, “It’s supposed to hurt, little healer! That’s how you convince somaeone to get be’hind your decision!”

“I don’t think that’s how it works…” you mutter as you finally break free of her grasp. You gently massage the bruise on your forehead. As soon as you touch it, the pain makes you cringe. You glance at the big mirror before you to see a noticeable, blue mark. You pick up a piece of cloth to wrap around it like a white linen headband.

You look at wobbling Elvira who Tugela is still holding in tight hug. You sigh, “If this is really necessary, I will… go with you. But I am not sure about leaving drunk Elvira and Lilth alone.” Lilth looks at the whole situation and nods.

“What’s the worst that’s going to happen?” Tugela raises her eyebrow curiously as she then lifts the bottle for Elvira in order for her to take another gulp. She coughs as soon as the bottle neck escapes her lips. Tugela stares judgingly at Lilth, continuing, “Nothing bad is going to happen here, correct – boy?” Lilth petitely backtracks.

“I don’t hear you,” Tugela shouts at him, though more teasingly than with menace.

You place your hand on her shoulder as you take the bottle, one she has been nursing Elvira with, away and put it on the table, as far away from the both as possible. You give Tugela a slight push, “I’ll talk to them, do not worry.”

“Well I live it to you, little healer, I’ll go pick up some things and tell the chef that the girl will be here for now.”

“Thank you,” you nod as you gently assist Elvira to one of the chairs before you guide Tugela to the door; you open it to lead her outside. She follows but blocks you locking the door with her foot… Did… you anger her?

“In two hours,” her orange eyes fall down on you as she leans closer and smirks. She lifts the bottle to your lips, “You sure you don’t want to try it? I promaise not to tell anybody about it if you don’t. Trust mae, it’s daman good.”

“M-maybe some other time,” you make your hardest not to sound too rude. Even if you wanted to try this ‘daman good’ wine – which you don’t – you still do not want to go on an errand looking as drunk as Elvira. Tugela shrugs her shoulders and gives you a hand wave before allowing you to lock the door. Now you have to do an errand in order to get Pero back? You are not going to make the boys’ life easier, that you promise yourself for certain. You turn to Lilth who have been silent this entire time; is Olyver like a key to his vocal cords lock? You approach him.

[Update 1/1]

“I will need to leave for two hours. You don’t need to do any work, just look after Elvira until then.”

Lilth looks at you with visible distaste on his face towards your request, “You want me to babysit,” he looks at the adult woman trying her hardest not to fall off the chair she is sitting on, “Her? I’m not sure that is a good idea.”

“It is just two hours,” you follow as you straighten your back, “Just give her some water and lead her to… we don’t have a sofa or bed here, do we?” you whistle through your teeth in annoyance, “Just let her sleep on the piles.”

“I am still not sure,” the boy shudders. “I know drunk people, Cynthia,” he struggles a bit with calling you by your name, “They are unreasonable, and easy to anger and uncontrollable and-”

You interrupt him, “I get it. I do. But she does not look like the type,” you say, “Just talk with her a bit if needed.”

“I don’t have much of a choice, do I?” he hangs his head in defeat.

“This is for Pero,” you remind him, “You want him back, do you not?”

“Of course,” he nods to you without hesitation, “He is my friend.”

“Good,” you say with a smile, “Then two hours should be nothing. Still, if you’ll manage to get some work done, I’ll appreciate it.” Your eyes dart into woollen baskets filled with ripped and dirty clothes – a never-ending basket.

Lilth awkwardly tips his glasses, “I am not sure I can do anything without you or your magic. Do come back.”

You give him a farewell nod. You approach the drunkenly shaking woman to give her a reassuring nod, she responds with an innocent, flabbergasted smile. She hicks, and then once more, before saying, “Don’t spin.”

You chuckle, half-honestly, “I’ll try not to. Now, Lilth here is going to keep you company, is that okay?”

Elvira slowly turns her spinning head to glance in Lilth’s direction. She narrows her eyes and nods her head.

“Perfect,” you say as you exit and lock the door behind yourself: better safe than sorry. You keep your ear to the keylock just to make sure no arguments or fights break up immediately. Thankfully, that does not happen. You go to your room to pick up your magic broom once you consider how far away the nearest town really is. If your errand is somewhere close, then, once you confirm that with Tugela, you can just leave your broom behind.
>>
You look over the damaged broom in your hands – you have yet to repair it, as you promised. You consider that, perhaps, you should free yourself some time to visit the nearest town to the Headquarters; is not late after that consideration you realize that you really do not have much money to spend in there… neither will you get a wage until after the challenge. You sigh as you pass by the mosaic windows of incredibly intrigued design – unlike last night, the midday sun gleams the stories with nothing less than royal care. It’s hard not to stop and appreciate the effort and art, as well as the cost Charlotte must have paid to have them done. Still, you do not linger for long.

By the time you arrive to the main hall, Tugela is already waiting for you near the fountain. She does not have a broom. You curse softly to yourself as you approach her. “Sorry, I decided to take this thing with me…”

“No,” she leans her head closer, and you backtrack intuitively, “You are right, it will be mauch faster with a broom.” She grabs the broom out of your hands before you can even argue, “Was this your first birthday gift?”

“No,” you shake your head gingerly as you take it back from her hands, “I borrowed it from a neighbour…”

“Well I expected you to be without one, anyway.”

You harrumph, “What about you? Where is yours?”

Tugela playfully nods her head towards the outdoors; you follow her to the entrance garden. To your surprise, there are barely any people present in the main hall, or even outside – this must be what they call the calm time of the day. Tugela clicks the belt to allow her grimoire (with a very soft and hoarse looking cover) to lift into the air before herself. She spreads out her hand before removing the broomstick straight from the pages of the book! First, glowing all bright, her extremely long magic broom quiets and begins to rejuvenate to its original colours. Unlike the regular type, her magic broom looks like it was more made for soap washing, not for simple sweeping.

She looks back at you and smirks, “Have you never heard about hiding gallingly big belongings in your grimaoire?”

You shake your head. She chuckles and, with surprising agility, she jumps and lands on her already hovering broom. Without a second thought, she lowers her back and falls. Both of her knee pits grip the broomstick just before she collapses head first on the ground. She remains hanging like that, as if waiting for you to join her.
>>
“Are you sure you will be alright traveling like that?” you ask as you put your broom between your legs... it might be a boring and bland way of traveling with a magic broom, but it’s the safest and most convenient one.

“Try to keep up”, she says moments before her broom swiftly jolts into the sky.

“W-wait where-” you say in alarm before you force your mana into your broom. Like an injured animal, it resists to lift off and fly straight. It takes you a while to get the perfect balance before you are ready to push more mana into the magic item in order to get closer to Tugela – you are still forced to fly a few meters behind and below her.
