“Deal with her.” That’s the text message you just received from Ajna. It appears you need to get rid of Nurse Kata for the moment…

It all started when you came to visit Ajna at the New Calamity Clinic, as you were pretty worried yourself for her. This routine visit took an unwelcome turn as the frail girl expressed her disdain for you, believing you’re just helping her out because you were asked to and didn’t want your patronizing charity. Sure she has somewhat of a point, as you barely know her aside from these stressful episodes with her… but you’re more than willing to know her better, and plan to from this point onwards!

The plan was to take Ajna back to her apartment, where she wants to show you something – despite her acting extremely suspicious about it. Before you could agree to leave, Nurse Kata Calamity appeared on the scene with a really big muffin on a tray! That’s when you got the text, and this is the situation at hand. If Ajna’s this desperate, then she must not be cleared to go home yet. Is the thing she wants you to see really so important that she has to resort to using you to help her sneak out, lying to you in the process?

“Here’s your treat!” Nurse Kata puts the tray on Ajna’s lap. Ajna starts chowing down on the massive baked pastry like a mad squirrel! Watching her dig into it, the impatient glare she gives you doesn’t escape your notice. “M-My my! What an appetite! Such a good girl!” Nurse Kata is amazed.
“…” Ajna doesn’t stop shoving forkfuls of delicious sugary food in her face, now very red.
“D’aww! What a cutie! No need to feel embarrassed, a sick girl’s gotta eat!” Kata’s comment makes Ajna even redder! “Now on the subject of cuties…” Nurse Kata turns to you now, her eyes looking at you the way she always does. “You haven’t told me where you met Ms. Ravlic from. You don’t mind, right?”

The nurse’s attention might be on you, but there’s only one door out of this patient room. On top of this, the huge treat Ajna is devouring must be awfully heavy. Knowing her strength isn’t what it should be, you don’t think the two of you can rush out before Nurse Kata grabs one of you. Not while she’s in here.

You gotta be subtle about this if you want to make it out of here… but how?!

>“It’s a long story I have totally the time to tell. Here goes…” Kill some time until it feels appropriate to address the next step. Curfew is at 9, and it’s almost 5 now. Better take it easy…
>“Kata, can I be honest with you? Ajna wants me to take her back to her apartment, but I don’t know if that’s possible. Can I?” Be frank with her! She’s awfully permissive most of the time.
>“Could you get me a really big muffin as well? I did a lot of running and working out today, and I guess I can handle a few carbs.” Make her leave the room and try to escape after that!

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling over a 95 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 5 or under means a critical failure (only for hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

They can just put the muffin in the fridge, or slice it up for the rest of the patients staying at the building? The clinic cafeteria must have a fridge or two, definitely. Shouldn't be a problem as long as we make it out unnoticed and unquestioned.

“I’m her friendly neighbor. I came by to see how she was doing.” You give her the shortest explanation you can think of. “I don’t know if this is too much to ask, but could you get me a really big muffin as well? I did a lot of running and working out today, and I guess I can handle a few carbs.”
“You like sweets too, Mr. ‘Friendly neighbor?’ That’s marvelous to hear! One of my favorite hobbies is bakery. The one Ms. Ravlic is enjoying is one my spoils.” Nurse Kata happily points out. Ajna continues to tear into the crumbling muffin, making sure to get any stray crumbs. Being confined to a hospital bed really works up an appetite… “I would love to make you one… but you’re wrong. That’s a regular muffin! I’ll show you what a big muffin really looks like, if you want!” She’s getting excited. Good for her.
“Thank you, but that one looks plenty big…” It would take a lot of working out to burn that, and you already take enough from Matilda’s training as it is.

“Believe me it’s not going to be enough. Everyone says as much.” Kata is already planning on making it. This means she should be out soon, if everything continues to go well. “There’s nothing stopping you from sharing it if it’s too daunting for you. I’m sure Nina, Ms. Neko, Constance, and Ms. Ravlic here would be happy to help.” Kata winks. She does that a lot.

“Quick question; is Ajna ready to leave?”
“Leave home, I presume? I believe her condition is being monitored right now, so that’s a no.”
“Monitored?”
“Sorry, handsome. I can’t disclose that information to you.” Kata switches to being professional. “I’ll have you know we take patient-client confidentiality seriously in our line of work. Even if that weren’t the case, I do not want to embarrass Ms. Ravlic any longer.”
“…” Meanwhile, Ajna has managed to devour her way through half of her muffin by this point. She doesn’t give any impression of having heard that.

“I’ll have your treat ready in an hour or so. I might be good at what I do, but baking doesn’t get any faster.” Nurse Kata sighs out in a dramatic way. “Some say the best way to get to a man’s heart is through his stomach… but best doesn’t always mean quickest…” Nurse Kata giggles playfully. You don’t get it. “I’m gonna get going then. See you later!” The voluptuous woman struts out of the room, leaving you with Ajna. The ‘regular-sized muffin’ in question is now slightly less than halfway eaten.

You have your chance to escape now, but…

What do you do?

“I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to leave right now, Ajna. Do you really need to go to your apartment this badly to tell me about yourself?”
Ajna puts her hand away, and you feel your phone getting another message .“There is no other way, I need to show you something.” The text reads.

No matter how much you might doubt this course of action, it is what Ajna feels is best. If this is what she needs, then you’ll help her! “Well, Ajna? Are you finishing that, or are we good to go?”
“G-Give me a s-s-s-s-sec.” Ajna now is taking big chunks of the (technically) big muffin.
“We do have an hour before Kata shows up again. Do you want some water with that?” You ask, seeing how she seems to have trouble swallowing it. Muffin-induced suffocation is a problem Ajna does not need in her life alongside all her other ones!
“…Y-Yes.” She accepts! For how hostile she was acting not ten minutes ago, this is genuinely surprising. One quick check later, you find a sink and some plastic cups for her.

It didn’t take long before she was finished, but now you wonder how you are going to drag her along without raising suspicion. Obviously what comes to mind first is turning invisible, but…

“I’m ready…” Ajna is back to being a being made out of clothes again.
“Hop on my back, I’ll carry you there.” This is the best option considering the ‘summer’ weather outside. It’s not a long walk anyway. You’ll turn invisible if necessary.
“Mhm…” Shuffling behind you, Ajna climbs up and grabs you by the arms in a strange way. The whole setup feels like having a human-sized backpack on you. Unusual, but effective. Oh, and she weighs almost nothing – even less than your own sister. At least that’s one benefit of being mostly skin and bones. You would like her to get better as soon as possible, though!

It doesn’t take long before you leave the clinic unimpeded and into the snowy city you live in! From the front door, you can see a couple groups of two to three soldiers each. They’re all in different directions, on different streetcorners, and they don’t seem to be paying much attention or on alert in any way. Running with Ajna in this state could be troublesome and walking would be too slow, so you settle on a brisk jog to keep a decent pace without slipping. On the way home, cars pass you by occasionally and stop at intersections as usual. Not only is there actually light traffic in this part of the city, but you glimpse blocky shapes loaded into most of the vehicles. Seems like the info you heard was right and there’s lots of people moving out of Pokyo Lokyo. And after all the confusing events that went on, who can blame them?

Lost in your thoughts and musings, you’re at your apartment before you know it! Right outside your door, you see none other than your little sister! She’s holding a game in her hands. Also, from afar, you hear a deep meow rumbling. Your sister spots you and gets near…

“You look busy.” The moody Amelia notices immediately. That’s your little sister! Thankfully, your little sister is too distracted to notice Ajna in her backpack mode. You feel the frail girl vibrating, probably nervous about the situation you’re in…

What will you do?

>”And you look tired. What’s that game there?” Looks familiar.
>“What’s going on, Ame? Is that Bradford Jr. I heard just now?”

“I have Ajna with me right now. Wanna help me escort her safely to her home for a few minutes?” You obviously trust your little sister, so why not tell her? “Just… you gotta keep it a secret from the others.” You goofily smile, then you look all serious. Mood whiplash ends up funny most of the time.
Ajna peeks out from the comfort of her backpack form, trembling even faster than before. Amelia takes a few seconds to grasp the situation you have described to her.

“…O.K. Thank you for being honest with me.” She’s okay with it! Not that you expected otherwise or anything. “She lives next to your apartment, so it’s not like a long trip…” Your empty sister’s little pulses of life deplete faster than anticipated. It’s progress.
“We’ll make it count.” You reassure as you two start walking alongside each other like family should.
“I’m sorry for making you uncomfortable, Ajna…” Amelia apologizes to the human bag.
“I-I-It’s f-f-fine.” Ajna responds with her usual meekness. You’re in front of her apartment now. Ajna starts squirming in her blankets, perhaps searching for the door key.

“Uhm… Johnny, I know Ajna won’t want me to be involved in… whatever you two are planning, so… d-do you w-want to play something together later? Yu Yan said you were free 5 PM on so maybe I thought we could…”

You don’t want to fluster your sister any further with this. What will you say?

>“I can’t today, maybe another day. I’ll call you.” You don’t know how long this is going to take.
>”Sure! As soon as I’m done with this. I will have a little surprise too!” A big muffin! Right?!

“Sure! As soon as I’m done with this. I will have a little surprise too!” The big muffin will come in handy!
“…Hehehe, cool!” Amelia’s smile is not as big as it used to be, but it still makes you happy and gives you hope! Abruptly, Ajna’s hand appears next to your head with the key. Amelia notices and says: “When you feel better, we’ll play together too Ajna!”
“S-S-Sure…” Ajna didn’t sound too reassuring.

“It’s a promise! Bye you two.” Amelia walks away really excited towards Nariko’s apartment (you assume).
“Take care, Amelia.” You wave goodbye to your little sister. Anything that makes her happy is preferable to how she was before…

Now you proceed to open the door to Ajna’s place. Once inside, Ajna slowly gets off your back and goes back to being a human being. She indicates you to sit on a random chair in the living room and to wait for her. When you do so and she’s sure you won’t up and leave her, she disappears into the gloomy apartment for a few minutes and returns pushing a box. It looks rather heavy – for her at least. You stand up to help her, but she waves your concerns away and begins her “show”

Ajna reaches in and pulls out a big frame with dead butterflies on display. She points to herself. “…Used to bug catch.”

Is this what it’s going to be all about?

>“If that’s what you’re going to do, wouldn’t it have been better if you just told me at the clinic…?”

“Cool! Please continue.” You sit with complete attention on her and her ‘exhibit.’
“Y-Yes…!” Ajna appears to be gaining more confidence to continue. She leaves the frame to the side and takes another thing from her box. It’s a basketball! She points to herself again. “…Used to play.” She tried to play with the ball for a bit but it ends up bouncing away instead. She didn’t even bother to go for it after feeling embarrassed for her lack of technique. “I-It w-w-wasn’t fun a-anyway.”
“Mhm.” You nod in place, trying to show as much care as you can.

With her object already gone, she goes for another. It’s a little top with savage-looking sides. It… actually looks pretty cool! She successfully makes it spin on the ground with the help of a little rope. She points to herself. “Used to let it rip.”
“Like farting…?
“…” Ajna stares for a second, almost gaping at you. “Pfft… haha…” She gives you a tender laugh, shaking her shoulders. It makes this depressing living room full of boxes feel a bit better.

She goes for the next object, and the next, and the next!

Ajna used to dive in the ocean, tried martial arts, play some card games, tried magic, made some sculptures, and played the trumpet! She loved playing pranks and tried to be a comic at one point too. She was a passionate horror movie goer, and loved to help some indie directors making prompts. That’s basically Ajna. At least, she said so herself.

“…I-I ne-ne-never got good at anything. M-My mom s-said t-they were a waste of time… and unladylike… I t-tried to keep doing them in secret, b-but she eventually w-would find out and s-scold me.” Ajna explains with a pained expression. “I-I still bug c-catch, but d-don’t tell her. It w-was her least favorite o-one.”
“Don’t worry.” You really wanted to say you never met her mother before, but it’s whatever.
“T-That’s me… More or l-less… T-Thank you.” Ajna finishes her T*d talk. “I-I s-said that again… S-Sorry…” She’s staring at you with anxiety in her eyes, clearly expecting a response to everything you just witnessed…

What do you say to this fragile girl?

“I’m glad I know you a little better now. That’s still a lot of cool things you did that most people never do.” You give Ajna a thumbs up of appreciation. She deserves it – who else do you know that’s done ocean diving and sculptures and letting tops ‘rip’, whatever that means?!
“T-T-Thanks…” Ajna’s nervousness visibly eases up. She’s now placing everything back into the box, though much livelier than she did at first. “I-I-I…”
“By the way, do you want to know more about me then? It’s only fair after you showed me all that stuff.” Time for your decently shitty backstory again… Oh crap, you interrupted her!
Before you could feel bad about it, Ajna’s eyes widen like you just read her mind. “Y-Yes! I would love to.” The traumatized girl rushes to grab a random chair and sits somewhat near you. All her previous worries and hesitation is out the window! She cannot wait!

You and Ajna are sitting face to face with a decent distance from one another. The thought of how the tables turned on you, going into this, goes through your head for a moment before you dismiss it. If Ajna wants to hear you out, then who are you to refuse her?
“Well, I’m gonna ask you not to laugh…”

And so, you began telling your backstory to yet another person! At this point, you seriously consider setting up a slideshow to go alongside it. Anyway, while it never gets easier to remember the sad moments of your past, you can contain your emotions now that you aren’t a drunken mess — in fact, you kept your cool like it doesn’t affect you anymore! It totally does, but Ajna doesn’t need to see that. Despite her evident anxiousness as you continue telling the hard parts, Ajna placed all her attention on you and tried to be respectful the whole time. Even in the parts that are supposedly ‘humorous’ to a certain ace defective, Ajna never had a hint of a smile on her face.

“…Don’t really want to go too much into details, but that covers everything.” Now Ajna understands why that encounter with your stepfather happened. Should you even call him your stepfather at this point? Does it matter anymore who he is or who he used to be to you?
“…” Ajna doesn’t say anything but opens her arms wide. You’re not feeling particularly emotional or anything, so this is a peculiar turn of events.

…?

>“Thanks, but no need for a hug. I appreciate you listening to me anyway.” This must be how Ajna feels after what you did.
>No need to say any words. This is going to be uncomfortable, but accept and hug Ajna! Try not to break her though!

No need to say any words! Time to accept her hug! This is going to be uncomfortable, but you go for it…!

Standing from your seat, you awkwardly get closer to Ajna. Before moving your arms to do it, you look Ajna dead in the eyes and watch for any indication. A slight nod from her is all you need! Her body feels… really thin. Despite having so many clothes stacked on her, you feel the bones jutting out and the skin moving limp with barely any muscle underneath to keep her all intact. With surprising strength, Ajna grabs your head in one hand and lowers it to her shoulder level, then starts stroking your head very gently! Now you know how it feels to be on the receiving end of a hug like this. Mental complaints aside, this is rather delightful…

“I’ll help you back now…” She whispers in your ear without stuttering. You feel like she’s the one who needs more help than you, but it’s nice to hear regardless.

After what seems like an hour but is really a minute of tender hugging, you gently put an end to this comforting moment. The silence finally breaks after Ajna hands you something. It’s a little blue rubber hand band… bracelet… whatever!

“I-It’s for good luck…” Ajna puts it on your wrist, and it sits there fancy and snug.
“Thanks.” You’re never going to say no to free stuff.
“T-Thank you for not leaving me alone…” Ajna bows a little. You’ve noticed she’s not stuttering as much now…
“Don’t mention it.” You shoot another thumbs up. You’re doing that too much lately! “Should we go back to the clinic, or do you want to stay here?”
“I d-don’t want the nice nurse to get m-mad at us.”
“Then let’s get going.” It’s already like… 7:00 PM! Damn, time sure flies! That ship probably set sail a long time ago, but whatever gives her piece of mind, you guess…

Ajna turns herself back into a human linen backpack, and the two of you set off back to the clinic! Now that you think of it, this is almost stealth training of a sort. Seeing as you’ve resolved to act (mostly) alone in this war for a while, you like that you’re having to do this now with someone you care about. It will come in useful when things become do-or-die, the way they usually tend to be in your life as of late. Your training mission here is to reach the medical facility undetected with valuable cargo…!

…And it was a success! After going inside the clinic, nobody even noticed your presence! Just like the stifling old days where nobody gave a shit about your existence! All that’s left is to open Ajna’s room and leave her unscathed on her bed. Piece of cake… or is that muffin, in this case?

As soon as you open the door and try to step inside without a sound, a flying scalpel pierces the wall next to your head. Turning your head stiffly as to avoid further imminent danger, you spot the obvious culprit on Ajna’s bed — Nurse Calamity! Oh, and there’s a tray with a really humongous muffin next to her, but that’s beside the point. Angry doesn’t even begin to describe her expression right now. It’s that of a teacher waiting to scold one bad behaved student, the punishment inevitable and the sentence just… something you suspect she learned from your ex-girlfriend during one of her bad moods. Ajna trembling on your back reminds you that this is real right now.

Now you know how Trent felt that one time…

“I didn’t think you of all people would kidnap one of our patients out of our own facility.” Kata sounds as pissed as she looks. “Care to explain yourself, young man?”

How do you respond?!

>Gently place Ajna feet-first on the ground, step quietly out of the room, then turn invisible…
>“Your uncle won’t be happy with what you did to this wall.” Point at the impaled scalpel.
>”You should be explaining why you threw a scalpel at someone carrying a patient instead.”
>“I’m sorry! I swear it was important! It was what she wanted!” You are an innocent man!
>Wordlessly walk over, place Ajna on the bed, take the tray, and walk out to the cafeteria.

“You should be explaining why you threw a scalpel at someone carrying a patient instead.” You retort defiantly.
“If I was planning on hitting you, we wouldn’t be having a conversation right now, dear. Your head wouldn’t be leaving that wall. Now leave Ms. Ravlic back on her bed.” Nurse Kata is not joking. You walk towards the bed and leave Ajna safely next to the Nurse. She starts checking on her, not even sparing you another glance. “I don’t take kindly people who trick me, less who endanger my patients. I’m very disappointed in you. I thought you were better than this, Johnny.”

“I-I-It wasn’t his fa-fault… It was m-my idea.” Ajna takes responsibility.
“I was only laying it down to him first. Both of you need to know better.” Nurse Kata is really pissed now. “You don’t seem to understand the severity of your actions. You’re not under monitoring because we like to see your pretty face, Ms. Ravlic. One decompensation, and you would be part of the mass funerals outside.”
“…” Ajna grabs her sheets in discomfort, wilting under the nurse’s glare.
“And if someone finds out we lost a patient under our care? We would be finished as a facility, let alone as professionals in the field. This is the second chance for most of the workforce here, and we don’t plan on wasting it on petty trifles.”

“Excuse me, what do you mean?” What was that last thing she said? Second chances?

“…Oh dear. I thought being so close to my uncle you already knew.” What you said surprised Nurse Kata enough to dampen her irritation, judging by the look she gives you. The interruption “It’s not the time for that talk. Johnny, I understand this situation is my fault for being too lenient, I trusted you greatly after all the help you granted me and the others, I had a momentary lapse of reason. Despite that, you have taken advantage of my trust and that cuts me deeply. I’m not going to make that same mistake again. Now please leave this room – we’re past visiting hours. Oh, and I’m taking my big muffin with me.”

No! Not the big muffin! Not like this!

?!?!?!?!?!?

>“I’m sorry for what I did. I never thought about the consequences it could create for all of you.”
>“So you get to throw a scalpel at me and act all mighty about it? Don’t act like you’re any better.”
>“But I really want the muffin… Don’t do this to me…”

“I’m sorry for what I did. I never thought about the consequences it could create for all of you. And while I don't deserve the whole muffin, can I at least have some to give to my sister?” You apologize and plea for the humongous big muffin in a daring move! Will it work…?

“…Are you really interested in my big muffin?” Nurse Kata’s guard is down! Now one part of you believes another reason she got mad at you is because you tricked her into making a muffin you were interested in.
“I would love to eat your really big muffin, Kata!” You declare from the bottom of your heart! “I know very well I don’t deserve it, but my dear sister does and I don’t want it to get wasted. She likes them more than I do!”

The eccentric caretaker goes quiet, thinking to herself. What you said must have really hit her hard someplace deep down. “A real man doesn’t lie when pastry is involved… I thought you already knew about the delicate situation in this clinic, and that contributed to my initial reaction. Perhaps I’m being too harsh? Very well, dear. I accept your apology!” Nurse Kata has a soft spot for you in her heart just like her uncle! That’s one less problem to worry about. “With that in mind, I can’t pretend nothing has happened… You two are going to have to make amends. Now, I don’t know what Ms. Ravlic can help me with — but you, Johnny seem particularly good connecting with people. The difference between Ms. Ravlic and Figg is… quite enormous. I think I have the perfect task for you to help me with.” Nurse Kata pulls out her phone.

“Huh? What exactly do you need?”
“You’ll see in time. Now let’s exchange numbers so I can inform you when I need you!” You have a bad feeling about this. Well, nothing you can do about it. You exchange contact info with this creepy nurse!

“So… Can I have the muffin now?” It’s getting late, come on!
“Just half. No more, no less.” Kata takes another scalpel and divides the humongous muffin in half with one cleave! Another slice gets you Ajna’s piece. The frail girl doesn’t touch hers though. Maybe the last one she had was enough for the whole day. “I wonder who I can give the rest to… Either way, here is yours. Send Amelia my regards and tell her this muffin belongs to her and no one else, it’s her own prerogative to share it with you.” That’s harsh. Nurse Calamity hands you the muffin in a convenient paper bag, in a more agreeable mood now that the subject has moved from patient kidnapping to pastry eating.

“Okay…” How disappointing. You suppose it’s to be expected after how badly you fucked up.
“You reap what you sow, my naughty boy.” Nurse Kata shrugs. “Now say good-bye to Ms. Ravlic. I wasn’t kidding about visiting hours, and you have no dire reason to remain on standby here any longer.”
“I’ll see you later, Ajna. Take care!” You try to sound enthusiastic. It doesn’t come out quite right to your ears though…
“I’m s-s-sorry for everything…” Ajna apologizes again. You shake your head and shrug like she doesn’t need to sweat it. It helped her and that’s all that matters.

And so, you were unceremoniously kicked out of the room and kicked out of the clinic not long after! Now another person doesn’t trust you as much as they did before. Just great. At least Kata is more reasonable and is giving a chance to redeem yourself. That’s more than most people have bothered to give you. Perhaps you should look into it in the future…?

Defeated, you came back to your apartment with half of the really big muffin. Soon after, Matilda texted to remind you there wouldn’t be any training on Sunday tomorrow, and that you use this time to get some well-earned rest. Best not waste any time and get started on that! A good way to begin is calling your sister over to play the game she wanted and enjoy a fun sibling evening together… which you do! Once you told her what you were busy with before, your shitty sister didn’t want to share the muffin with you. How cruel! Unable to handle this outcome as a big brother, you metaphorically start drowning your sorrows with videogames…

While you are slaying your way through this crazy demon comboing style simulator and Amelia is watching, she told you she got in touch with her father again and decided to settle everything with him. Amelia told him about moving out and not wanting to do anything with him anymore. That she couldn’t pretend what he did to her mother didn’t happen, and that she couldn’t see him as anything but a ruthless murderer.

Surprisingly, that piece of shit was more than happy to hear her daughter being fine than anything else. He was okay with all that and wanted to send her money every month as some type of child support, but Amelia declined. Now while you air juggle multiple horrors at a time to the tune of sick guitar riffs, your sister is wondering if she did the right thing. Nariko believed she should’ve taken the money, but Yu Yan believed it wasn’t worth the hassle.

(To speed things up, we’ll do 2 votes)

“Yeah, screw him. You don’t need his dirty guilt money.” You didn’t need your dad’s, she doesn’t need hers!
“Mhm!” Amelia nods in agreement. “I really wanted everything to be like back then, salvage what we once had. I might be a dummy for thinking this… but after spending time with you, Nariko, Yu and the others, I thought there’s no way pretending to be a family again can be as fun as this…” Amelia rests her head on your shoulder, making you drop the combo you were doing. There goes your score!

“Getting all philosophical lately, huh?”
“Not really. Saraswati told me to stop clinging to the past from the very start. I don’t think I got it for real until a few days ago.”

“So you get it now? All this big talk?” Has your sister grown so much lately? Without you noticing?
“Not really…”
“Me neither. But I pretend I do sometimes.” You adjust your glasses. “Sometimes it’s all we can do.”
“I can tell you don’t think things through. You can’t trick me anymore.” Your little sister is tired of your bullshitting ways! “Not after everything that happened.”
“I never tried to trick you. I was only, uh… oblivious to my own shortcomings.” You jest with some sprinkles of truth in between.
“Hehe. That’s one way of putting it.” Amelia giggles, then hugs you close. “Thank you, big bro. I may not look like it, but I’m happy.”
“I’m not sure I did anything though. You’re the one helping yourself.”

The conversation slowly turned into a more mundane talk from that point onwards. You’re still worried about your sister’s lack of emotions; she used to be quite expressive before and her moodiness staying doesn’t sit well with you. Maybe it’s because she’s similar to how you used to be, way back before all this? Maybe this is how Amelia is going to be from now on and you need to get used to it? Who knows? Time will tell…

Eventually, Amelia left your apartment after a nice dinner together. She asked to pack some food for Nariko because of reasons, which you did. Something tells you this isn’t good in the long run for your OG hobo. Before leaving your place, Amelia said Yu would stay at Nariko’s apartment for the night. It seems they are working something out with Nariko to deal with Yu’s recurring nightmares. You didn’t want to pry about what that could possibly be, but you have a vague idea as to what it could entail.

With Amelia gone, you decided to arrange a meeting with Scarlet and Terry! You have neglected your powerless friends for far too long! An ecstatic Scarlet is on board with the idea, but wonders where you should go and do. From the list activities she casually mentioned you could do, it’s up to you to pick one!

Which one do you pick?

>Bowling! You don’t know a place, but you can find one!

You propose to go to karaoke at the Reachers of the Stars parlor! Scarlet agreed to your proposal on the spot and sounded full of enthusiasm! It’s all settled! Time to sing in front of people…

And probably kill them! Uh-oh… Was this really a good idea? Too late to back out now.

Don’t be stupid! You only need to remember everything Nina taught you on that unforgettable date you had!

Oh god, the more you try to remind yourself of the events that happened that evening, the more your mind drifts to when you f*cked her brains out. You horny bastard! Can’t you keep it together in your pants?! Welp, you cannot rely on the techniques she taught you that day.

N-No! Not those techniques, damnit! Your dirty mind is overflowing with the wrong thoughts! Fuck, take your mind off that! Better prepare to go to sleep now before it gets worse. You’ll go during the morning, then get lunch together if they survive. Whatever else that happens will be up to you. You tuck yourself inside your bed and hope for a fresh start tomorrow.

It’s Sunday, June 9th! 6 AM! Training with Matilda conditioned your body to wake up earlier. As the intelligent man you are, you decide to take advantage and prepare for the rest of the day. Hell, you don’t even have Nariko here anymore, so it’s up to you to clean this household as well!

Feeling productive never felt so good! You’re ready to tackle this day of fun. Plain fun. Just fun and nothing else… Truthfully, it’s been a while since your schedule allowed you to have fun! It’s almost like you forgot how it felt to not have anything to do. The Reachers of the Stars is awfully close to the school, so you’ll take the subway train there. You need to be outside the station at 11:30 AM, so off you go… And hey, it’s not as cold outside this time. The snow is finally dying off for good! You don’t know if that’s a good sign, but you are sure not gonna miss the cold.

You foolishly believed you were going to be the first one to get there, but Terry is already here! You immediately approach him and say hi.
“How is it going, Johnny?” Terry is happy to see you doing well.
“I’m fine, thanks. How are you? I never heard from you after the incidents.” You recall him not answering your calls at the time. Good thing he didn’t end up dead.
“Oh yeah, that. My phone broke and I was busy moving out. My mistake.” He scratches the back of his head. “My old house broke down and had to move out to a new apartment. I’ll give props to my old man; after all these years, his insurance bet finally paid up! Haha!”
“That’s kind of awful, man.”

“Don’t worry, we were stuck inside my family’s restaurant during that time. We’re clean as a whistle. Got ourselves a nice place now too! So it’s all good. I wouldn’t mind if you paid us a visit sometime.” Terry seems in a good mood despite looking a little tired. It hasn’t been a week since Judgment Day either. “And nothing happened to you, right? You look great for someone who was hospitalized a week ago. You’re quite a tough cookie.”
“Yeah. I was stuck in there, so nothing bad happened. And my apartment is fine too.” You shrug. It’s kind of true.

“That’s good to hear.” Terry looks genuinely glad for you. “Typical Scarlet, making us wait despite living a few minutes away, right?”
“I guess…?” You don’t know her for being unpunctual.
“Well, tell me, how great of a singer are you? I mean I wouldn’t pick this place if I was planning on winging it.” Terry wonders, but you can feel some ulterior motives coming from him…

What do you respond?

“I like to think my singing is unforgettable.” Again, it’s kind of true…
“Should I be scared? I noticed you’re being very careful with your word choice there. Haha.” Terry might be weird but he’s not a fool. “That reminds me, I never heard from you about the punishment list. Which means I’ll do as I please, hope you don’t mind.”
“If you don’t make her do something weird, I won’t.”
“But where’s the fun in that?” The curiosity in Terry’s voice is too genuine to be faked. He honestly doesn’t know what he’s doing, does he?
“You have a point. Just don’t go overboard, okay? We’re supposed to have a fun time today.”
“I’m not planning to. As you can see, I’m not what you would call prepared!” He shows you his empty pockets. What, not even a wallet or spare change? “But I understand.”

Despite only running late for a few minutes, Scarlet arrived after what felt like an eternity! She’s looking good! A bit too good…

“Hey, Johnny!” Scarlet gets closer, full of joy. “Hey, Terry.” She says with much less enthusiasm.
“Hey Scarlet, long time no see.” You smile. “Nice outfit.” It really is a lot cuter than you ever thought or expected. It… fits her appropriately. You don’t want to risk thinking much more than that…
“Thank you!” Scarlet spins around to give you the full view. “I’m sorry for making you wait!”

“Still an impeccable sense of style like when we were kids.” Terry compliments. “You’re never one to change, huh?”
“Is that a backhanded insult?” Well, you were wrong. Should have expected this from Terry, knowing his backstory and all.
“Your cheeks as round as ever, I see.” Terry doesn’t attempt to hide where he’s looking as he says this. Scarlet pouts and puts her tongue out with a ‘nyeeh’ sound. “I kid, I kid. You know you’re fun to tease.”

“No fair. You act all nice and goody when we’re alone, and in public you pretend to be all victimized when I tease you back.” Scarlet’s pout wilts into a different expression. Great, her mood is ruined now and you haven’t even stepped foot inside the karaoke parlor. This must be a record. “It’s so lame. Why can’t you be like Johnny and play around with the funny jokes and be cool and stuff?” Scarlet shuffles closer to you.
“Yes, I’m the funny cool guy with the funny cool glasses and the funny cool jokes.” You say in the most empty non-funny-cool deadpan you can muster.
“See? Hilarious.” Scarlet puffs up, vindicated. Little does she know… you weren’t funny or cool at all.

“I’ll tone it down! I’ll tone it down! I promise.” Terry laughs, raising his hands up in front of him. “It’s hard when you get like that every time though. I can’t help it sometimes.”
“See? You two acting friendly to each other will be a treat.” It’s your turn to tease them now!
“H-Hey, I’m not that mean, am I?” Scarlet’s insecurities are showing. You’re not sure if she’s aware of it or not. Probably?
“Not really. That’s what makes it interesting to hang out with you two.” They might not be as weird or neurotic or lacking in sanity like most people you know, but that’s what you like about them. Dealing with other flame users isn’t always easy, especially recently…

“I feel like I’m plenty more interesting without him being around though.” The redhead scowls at Terry, who is still holding his ‘please don’t shoot me’ pose.
“Yeah, if only we could go on another date together…”
“W-What a concept! Maybe we should go look into that?!”

“Sheesh, I feel like you two demons get stronger together. I’m gonna need some serious backup at this rate.” A small droplet of sweat trickles down the side of Terry’s head, even though it’s still pretty cold outside. “L-Let’s get to the karaoke now before you two get any worse on me!”
“Sure.” You shoot him a thumbs up. Can’t you do any other gesture besides that? You really have to break this habit when you have the time.

As the three of you turn and walk towards the Reachers of the Stars, you idly ponder what song would be the best to murder them with… Whatever it is, karaoke will never be the same again…

Sadly this all we have for this week’s thread! Thanks for playing!
