Thomas Fairway, ranger tenderfoot, traveled to new lands in search for the Rabbit Princess, to earn his stripes as the archetypal hero of lore.
In her eerie tower, lays a mystery that leads him underground where an unspeakable horror lies waiting to spring its monstrous trap.

This has been your journey so far...

------------------------------

Such act of duplicity does not fool you!
You muster your legs to leap forward upon hearing the twist of bone behind you.

Sediments scatter, bloodstained, from the impact as the slithering woman veers away from its own arm.
Her own torso grows spindly and spiked with bone and enamel, decorating her face with rows of jagged teeth.

"ASHIEEAAN' TAORU YAZ' GARAZHS! YÖT- JERÉ SOLOU-MEDAKRAENSA! YÖT- JERÉ SOULOU-REKAN KA! YÖT- JERÉ SOULOU-MAGNIA! REEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAA!!!"

The horror lets out an ear-piecing shriek, like needles, that near puts you down onto your knees.
Her strengthening grip bends the bars of the caged lantern within her dagger like nails.

------------------------------

Amidst the screaming, the blurry vision, the deadened arm, the repugnant stink, the horrifying realization of near-death, your crossbow felt heavier than ever to lift.
Your aim, now shoddy, tries to steady with every fibre of your being not at the beast's tongue but at the oily lantern she carries.

*FWIP!*

A finger's twitch to let the bolt fly.
It zooms past and shatters the wick's oil case, dousing its bearer a fiery bath.
The shrieking peaks in pitch but is muddled by its thrashing, along with the arms trying to recoil back from whatever darkness they have crept out of.
In a vain attempt to douse itself, it slithers back up in its mouth only to find the attempt futile.
Its voice, now faded into the shadows, disappears for an iota of a second before you hear shattering....of glass?

*PSSHHK PSSHK PHSSSK*

You do not know the source of the noise but it it is everywhere until silence once more.
The shadows coalesce from behind each crevice of rock and take shape to what appears to be a miniaturized version of the horror's crown.

>[x] Take crown and leave.

You pocket the cursed crown.
It is surprisingly light to carry and the inscriptions on its base seems like gibberish at first but glancing a bit longer the characters shift into words you can understand.
"Be wary of falsehoods, for they bestow the crown of fools".

Eerie.

But that doesn't even bother you as much as the thing that was once alive wearing it.
You limp away to retrace your steps, relieved that the nightmare is over as the cavern starts crumbling around you.

Across the burning timber, you think back to a more peaceful time in your life.
Frolicking through the woods and breathing the fresh green air where the most you would worry about is if you're trespassing an animal's hunting grounds, even then you would know better.

You miraculously make it up into the tower lobby, limping as you go.
The whole place has revealed its true bloody nature but it honestly isn't much of a surprise to you at this point.

The exit looks so close yet so far, it's almost palpable how freedom feels like beyond that broken door.

Jubilations should overwhelm you but it doesn't feel like much of a celebration.
You literally got nothing out of this whole fucking deal.
"What a sham...", you think to yourself.

Your boots squish with each step down the stone steps that feels like gravity is pulling you for an embrace.
The field of grass dance with the fresh air, sunlight glistening emerald through the canopy, birds chirp for a day's work and the trees stand tall since the last you saw it.
Although for you, your outlook on life has drastically changed.
No princess.
No nothing.
Not even goddamn loot.
Being a hero sucks, the legends were a lie.
Why would people even do this?

"Fuck this", you mutter before collapsing into a thud.

ok, as a non-player who just seldom browsed your quest and casually opened some pictures i have 3 critiques:

1) character designs were pretty clashing with each other at some point, see pic related. either make them all stick figures or make the hero more detailed instead of having this looney tunes back in action tier of clashing artstyles.

2) dunno if others will agree but i don't like it when quests use keyboard signs such as [] [] [] [] or ------------------------------ to make the posts look fancier, you get what i mean. i know it's done for the ease of reading but it has the contrary effect on me at least. the only thing i can pass is green texting.

3) i also don't like it when quest masters write a short line, press enter, write another short line, press enter and repeat the whole process, resulting in a long stretched post. they're bothersome to read. you don't need a whole line for every minuscule statement, you could just put enough information in a single line before jumping to the next one or to a next paragraph when it's needed. let me show an example of something you posted in the previous thread to explain myself better. instead of:

"A shower of splintered wood rain across the inner sanctum of the tower as you make your move inside, weapons poised."
"Inside, you are greeted with a wide and spacious array of decorations and tapestry of various rabbits."
"It definitely appears to be much MUCH larger in the inside."

you could write:

"A shower of splintered wood rain across the inner sanctum of the tower as you make your move inside, weapons poised. Inside, you are greeted with a wide and spacious array of decorations and tapestry of various rabbits. It definitely appears to be much MUCH larger in the inside."

and those would be my critiques.

>>
>>3762432
So far I've been enjoying myself quite a bit.
The writing is good, art is fantastic, and the content is very enjoyable. It definitely reminded me of towergirls, and the 'quest to save a princess' is always a fun romp.

>prologue is prevalent to what kind of quest you are playing.
I think this is a good choice. Give the players an exact feel for what all we should expect, and what all we will have to face to get what we want. Its refreshing to have a rather challenging quest experience, and the uphill battle definitely made that victory feel well earned. There were a few times I was worried, when we kept shooting the lanterns, but in the end it worked well enough and we got out alive.

Based on the prologue, I'll definitely be sticking around to watch. Participate where I can, but based on how busy I'll be it will probably be more lurking than anything.

>>3762665
1) My best guess is that the MC is far more simplistic for ease of drawing in a variety of poses or expressions. Other NPCs can use a few base sprites for most things, probably, but the MC needs to be able to accommodate whatever wacky shit anon makes him do.

3)I'd agree with this. Unless its dialog, or purposefully done to drive a certain feeling/tone, I'd prefer some of that stuff to be more condensed. If they are completely separate trains of thought, or jumping all over the place, then probably leave as is. But if it is a series of interconnected sentences that are related to the same thing, you should be able to just leave them in a single paragraph.

>[x] Plead

"Downstairs, maybe. I never bothered checking. Now can you untie me?", you plead. Expectedly, she does not oblige.

Her arm methodically unholsters her weapon, a common war pick assembled with standard materials, it isn't too showy or shabby but it does look that it has seen some action. "By the authority of the Virago Coterie, I hereby place you under arrest until you are relinquished to a higher authority."

Ah yes, now you remember the insignia on her upper torso.. The Virago Coterie. From what you know, they are an all-female order of knights that live by and offer services to princess from around the globe, from doing simple tasks or just added security where other orders instead do the whole "save the princess" type of deal. They are also not as extravagant or heavily armed than other groups, but are numerous and unique enough on their own to leave an indelible mark wherever they may be found. Additionally, popular rumours have spread that they are comprised of man-hating shrews that kidnap babies into their circle, discarding the males to die while indoctrinating the females.
But those are just rumours...right?

Her commanding voice rouses once more, "Tell me where your other friends are, you clearly couldn't have done this alone. You bandits always like to run in packs like the rats that you are."

This tomboy is starting to irk you so you decide to snap back, "Have you even seen a bandit before? Bandits may kill people but their priority is looting if this tower had been raided by bandits it would be stripped and maybe burned not full of the pureed—"
"Is that a fact now?",she says with clear condescension.

Your rant cut short causes your blood to start boiling, "—former...occupants. Why the hell would I just be laying outside unconscious then !?"
"That is a story that I will find out shortly, I assure you. Get up."
She motions you to rise but you feel as though that may be a farce. "You know damn well I can't do that."

"I know.", she holsters her weapons as she lifts you up to your feet almost with complete ease, only flinching slightly from what you assume is your horrible stench. Pangs on pain shoot though your arm from the assisted movement.

"AAAH FUCK!", you scream at the top of your lungs, "WATCH THE ARM!" as you are set to stand upright.

"It doesn't look broken but the swelling does look painful, you probably tried to set your shoulder back?"
You nod gently.

"Alright, I got some poultices for that; I've already dealt with your other wounds."
"Other wounds?"
"Yes wooden splinters, some deep cuts and bruising. You were beaten pretty bad when I found you."
Her veneer of a strict shrew is nearly wiped away as she continues to look around for anything she missed, during so revealing a bit more of her concealed edge of femininity that contrasts her tomboyish manner. A long scar is drawn down across her one cheek with a scraggy short blonde hair resting on her shoulders."That arm is going to take some time but I'm bringing you back down to Traveler's Rest, you can get checked up by a physician there." You do remember resting at a small township on your trek here and it was about a day's travel.

"I am however holding on to these for now."
A wry smile shapes around the sides of her lips as she exhibits your trusty crossbow and knife within her studded belt.

Her eyes narrow fromm your tart response, "Excuse me?"
"You're coming right now to check that tower then once you see I'm telling the truth maybe you'll stop acting like A DICK and give me my stuff back, YOU DICK!"
Her leather-clad arms raise up, "Woah ok, that's not happening. I've already seen what's inside and it's a bloody mess. "Sure, but we have to find a brook or something for me to wash this gunk off."
"Definitely.", she adds on before instructing you to head back into the forest. You comply but as you glance once more to the tower behind you, a conflict between a reprieve from the nightmare and the fact of knowing that a trauma has embedded itself in your psyche fills you with unease. A feeling of dread washes over you learning that the experience will without a doubt come back to haunt you in the future. You just wish that you can cope and move on.

(Thomas Fairway has joined ???'s party)

---

It's been some time now but you are still in reflection about what happened in the tower. What happened to the princess? What the fuck was that horrible monster below? Who was Rickard? That one Wispell, what was that about? You even start to wonder if some heroes have met a more grim fate in that encounter. What a fucking horrible way to go, to die in a sordid way alone....afraid and in pain The very palpable imagination of it physically and mentally makes you sick to which you then notice the familiarity of your surroundings. The once promising greenery now marked with an ominous path to a dark memory.

You stop walking for a moment. There is no stream or any river of sorts this way since this is the exact same track you've taken on your way here and you know your way damn well. Either this Virago Knight lied to you about your intended destination or she honestly is just bringing you back to Traveler's Rest smelling like this...through the woods.
With animals that will surely pick up your STRONG scent.
Animals like predators.

"What? What is it? Why'd you stop?", she stops a fair distance behind you. You don't know if it's the smell or she is just keeping her guard up for any business you may try.

>I've been on this path, there is no body of water on this way.

What I'm wondering myself is for how long the Princess has been up for rescue... In Yot-Jere's lair there were a LOT of corpses so it makes sense that she's been there for a while so why would the Virago Coterie only arrive now?
For that matter, who exactly was keeping the Princess in there?
>>
>>3773641
Princesses (specifically ones that have been bestowed with a crown of power) are generally confined to their own towers or some area around it, living their life in semi-isolation.
A various number of people come visit them as well while some knights or individuals will "elope" or liberate them from what basically is their prison/home.
So far, I can't seem to flesh out the logic of that.
>>
>>3773645
Adding to this. Princesses also have unique tower guards that protect and serve the princess.
I didn't really bother for the Rabbit Princess because they are...kinda dead so I didn't really see the point of designing her Rabbit Guards.

"I've been on this path..."
"And?"
"There's no stream nearby that I can wash this gunk off."
"Forgive me but that does not look like it can be simply washed off, what in Mod's name even is that? It reeks of death's shit."
You snap your view back at your captor, "I know you it sounds unbelievable but some horrible monster in the tower killed everyone back there." An unperturbed look washes over her face as if she's heard of your tale a thousand times over.
"Anybody that can corroborate that claim?"
You are taken aback by her nonchalant response despite the gravity of the situation. How on earth can you prove your story to her?
"Didn't you hear me? Everyone was killed in that cursed place! How are you not a least bit worried?!?"
"Because I've heard them all, now keep moving before I make you move. I do not have much time for idle prattling", she says as she unholsters her pick.lightly pushes you on its flat head.
"You Viragos are sworn to protect the princesses right—?"
Another jab hits you this time with added force that causes you to flinch and take a few steps forward.
"You should be looking for her!"
In a calm voice and undisturbed expression she mutters, " What do you think I'm doing?"

*snap*

Her head raises in alarm, eye wide open in stern watch. You heard the snap of twig underfoot as well, it sounded heavy but you are not certain.

*snap*

It is approaching close and already nearby in a slow even pace. By having your wrists bound your reflexive fingers does not find its way into a weapon so you may defend yourself. Suddenly, you are yanked behind the Virago, her square shield raised by her front.
"Shut up and don't move."
"You gotta untie me."
"I said be quiet."

A large shadow emerges from the wall of thick trees and shrubbery and from there emerges a snout sniffing around as its guide. The rest of its furry torso reveals itself, branch and twig giving way from its massive size. A low and humble growl continually escapes its slobbering jowls as it motions to the two of you.

You have encountered [Bear]

The Virago is on edge and is backing away slowly with each paw inching forward, a bead of sweat trickling down her silky cheek with eyes glued on the creature. You've dealt with various types of animals before and this one looks to have caught your scent and maybe mistaken you for a carcass. You may turn this situation into your favour.

>[x] Take off clothes

The both of you slowly take a foot back with each passing second, the curious bear inching closer as well. Connecting its attraction for the pungent aroma from your clothes, you start shimmying to slip them off. "I said quit it", she snaps without leaving her stony gaze at her adversary. The damp and loose fabric shortly loses its hold around your waist and gradually falls to your knees. You then notice that your boxers are also heavily stained from the abomination's macabre regurgitation. You shut your eyes and take a deep breath and try to pull it down with your thumbs bound behind you. Before you know it, that piece of garment finds its way down as well, exposing you to the chilly wind. Your face goes beet red from the ordeal.

"I swear if we get eaten—", her face quickly takes a double take of your exposed body, her stare now directly fixed on the bear with a passing shock that she quickly composes. You catch a short whisper escape her lips that you bring together as "Of all the days I come visit...", the rest is unapparent as her jaw clenches. Back to your plan, you waddle forward between her and the bear without any resistance from the Virago as if she has resigned that you're probably a crazy man that would inadvertently get her mauled by a bear. The animal tilts its head on your bold confrontation. You then swallow a big gulp and kick off the clothing off one of your legs as it lands over the shrubbery. There is a short pause as the animal's curious head swivels to you and the stink of your discarded trousers. You sweeten the deal and ditch your boots as well that lands a bit further over to which its snout then follows to sniff around.

From behind it, a young cub emerges to mewl at the both of you in a daring attempt to watch its parent's back.

You motion your head to depart to the Virago to which she responds with just a cold glare and direct eye-eye contact. You quickly realize that she doesn't want to go ahead and lose you as her captor so you slide back onto her side careful of alerting the small cub from your escape. She holsters her weapons slowly and violently grabs your uninjured arm to flee at increasing pace from the scene.

Throughout the forest, you two make several detours much to your protest since if that bear wanted to find you, it definitely would. Your complain of course falls into deaf ears as her eyes dart around your leafy surroundings. You'd wager that she's lost but there's possibly nothing you can do about it as the sun starts to set , the sunlight turning bright orange above the canopy. The both of you then reach to a large tree with roots swelling from the ground it has ground. It looks healthier, sporting a thicker bark and brighter emerald leaves. She takes a look around the tree, dragging you along, until she spots a peculiar burrow underneath its many large roots.

She takes a sight of relief as her arm frees you, albeit harshly, "We'll stop here for the night, try anything like that again and I break your other arm. Got it?". It's clear to you that her strict demeanor towards you has gotten colder. You also spot that her eyes takes conscious effort to clearly avoid your indecent exposure, maintaining a straight line of eyesight to your own eyes. You would take that as a personal compliment if not for the chilling forest wind starting to match her icy disposition towards you.

Still, that causes you to blush a bit from the situation itself.

A stray wind sends you a bit a of a shiver when it brushes past your bare skin. "Do you have anything to help me cover up?", you add on. She briskly replies "No" as she starts directing you to sit under the tree, binding your wrists onto the one of the large roots.

"Then how about a fire then? When night comes it's going to be freezing.". The Virago, with indifference to your coming plight, strides towards the nearby shrubbery and starts grabbing large bundles of leaves and showers you with them. Pricked by some small branches all you can do is squirm around until you have yourself a thick enough blanket made of leaves.

She kneels over by your feet and pulls a long string of rope to bind your ankles together, "Next time, run by me what you're planning to do before you start stripping like whore, alright?"
The last of words of the sentence ending with a sharp straight pull of the rope, forcing your feet in a tight grip.
You're taken aback by her admonishment but you do get the social blunder of denuding yourself in front of a lady, even if she's one of those Virago-types. "I'm sorry but it was the only way."

Her head shakes in disagreement with a scoff, "Haha...no. Get some shuteye before I get back else I forcefeed you sleepweed. Understand?" She sounds serious on that forcefeeding part but then again, she's been serious the whole time. Sleepweed as you know is an uncommon plant that you usually come across in your wilderness travels. The plant pops when an animal grazes by to spread a drowsing inducing scent, stronger when harvested in concentrated extract and much more common than other remedies. Although, a large amount have to be taken in order for it to take effect so you are not surprised by her threat of "forcefeeding" you.

You attempt to change the subject, "So what exactly is inside that burrow? It sounds like you were looking for it pretty bad."
"Bunntibun burrow. Nothing hunts them and no predator gets near their burrows. We're safe here for the meantime from your 'guests'.", she rises and scans around the vicinity before disappearing into the fold of trees

Bunntibun?
You haven't come across that type of animal before, whatever it is, and it sure sounds interesting. A few minutes pass with no sigh of her and nothing to do so you plainly start drifting off to slumber as the night falls.

>[x] Safe from [BAD DREAMS]

Your sleep remains unexciting much to your relief.
---

From the conscious black you are awakened by a damp titillation of your feet. You begin to wonder what it is and when your eyes adjust to the filtered light of the canopy above you spot two small creatures sniffing around, their button noses carefully pecking you.

One you immediately see is ruffling around the leaves you were given as a blanket, most likely testing whether you are food or not. The other is snuffling the soles of your bare feet. The feeling is almost therapeutic to your nerves.

Seeing their physique more clearly, they are a very distinct type of rabbit with abnormally large ears, you wager that it's even too cumbersome for their size. They also have a contrasting hue on the top of their heads and fringes of their oversized ears that creates a pattern that resembles a crown of sorts. The rest of their fur looks softer than usual to touch than most rabbits you've come across, like stray dandelions in the wind have all merged into one living cotton furball,

These must be the Bunntibun rabbits that Virago was talking about and speaking of which, that woman isn't present at the moment.

>[x] Charm

You purse your lips and squeak in an attempt to present your binds to the curious creatures. Both of them pause for a moment from the sudden noise you are making then resumes into investigating you. Determined, you try again and this time both the Bunntibuns cheep at each other to which you assume is their form of communication. You mimic their noise the beset you could but it falls in deaf ears when they both just start nibbling on the leaves around you. You try to squirm around and wiggle your feet to get it to catch their attention but the animals have now ascertained you as a non-threat and continue feeding on the greenery.

At least it's a cute sight to see.

It really is something of beauty to observe the pair eating together. You catch one passing some leaves to the other in a energetic pace when the other have tasted it as if its some sort of taste checking. Some of the leaves are left wholly uneaten when they move on to next one so you can infer that they are picky eaters. Much of your intended sway on these animals have been discarded for breakfast.

You sit and muddle around until the Virago returns from the thicket to see your newfound companions. The rabbits react to her presence for a quick moment but return to dining on your blanket which you think is pretty neat.

"Okay good, you're awake. We gotta move."

You're sorta jealous of how nonchalant and comfortable these animals are towards her but you swallow it for some humour, "Sorry, kinda tied up in the moment."

She ignores your remark and starts untying your feet quickly, each knot tugging out releases more breathing room for your ankles. Her studded gauntlets also find themselves petting the delicate hide of the Bunntibuns when undoing your binds.

I'm of the mind to at least be cooperative. It likens her to us more, which could lead to her going easier on us in the future, or at least being more partial to out pleas.
It also gives us a better chance of getting pants in the near future. And pants will provide us a sizable diplomacy bonus to basically everyone in normal society (not ranger society).

You prefer to let her do her thing without aggravating the situation further. Once she has finished with your feet, she moves onward to the rope attaching you to the large root. The animals briskly move out of her way in doing so and retreat back to the nearby burrow at surprising speed, their large ears marking a furry blur disappearing into the tree.

Goodbye, fellow creatures!

You are helped upright, the numbness of your offhand now in slightly better condition than before but you take great care in not jostling it around to not undo any healing done by your captor.

"It's going to be a long walk back to Traveler's Rest but we can make it by noon if we keep up an even pace.", she says with a straight face, clearly avoiding gazing down at your exposed nether regions. You even detect a hint of annoyance almost as if she has other things to do than escorting you around.

I know this question is out of the blue but how many party members is too much for you guys?
Also, will giving agency to the other party members during combat suitable for you or do you guys want full control?
>>
>>3782040
I'd say no more than 3 other party members, though it depends on how the system works with other people. It might work better with 2 other party members, doing mass effect style where we can bring who we think is best suited for the task.

Based on how crazy our first fight was, I am leaning towards giving agency, but with the option to direct them. That way it doesn't slow the combat down as much when going through the motions, but still allows us to control them if we have a stupid crazy awesome plan to enact.
>>
>>3782061
You can still talk to them and depending on your relationship, they will either listen or not.
>>
>>3782061
Yeah, I'd say 4 (counting us) is a pretty good number, but that doesn't have to be a hard limit.

As for combat, I'd also say to allow party members to do what they want, with the opportunity to provide suggestions.

You acknowledge her demand with silence and a gesture. With that, she urges you to move along, "We can reach there by midday it's not too far from here." You don't really need the reminder of the distance since you do remember the way there, still, you follow onward with no complaints.

[Virago liked that]

--

What follows is a peaceful jaunt through the woods you've taken a detour in. There was no conversation or any exchange of words but the warbling of the birds fluttering throughout the canopy. The sun is high up in the clouds when the both of you reach the clearing with the dirt path straight into a small settlement. It was only a day or two ago when you've last visited this place to embark on your journey which brings a solemn memory of how you were excited for things to come.

A moderately large building with a board nailed to its side that reads "INN" is the first thing you can make out from the place. You have never paid much attention to the rest of the other establishments other than the inn you've stayed for the night. Maybe you can look around and fucking get some clothes on yourself. By you is a large wooden sign, "Welcome to RabbitWood" with the banner sigil of the Rabbit Princess hoisted by its side.

"We're here, I'm going to bring you by Auntie Chen's to get you patched up, wait for me there got it? AND IMPORTANTLY..."

You nod as she approaches you with one finger jabbing your bare chest, "Do not mention anything about what happened to the princess to ANYBODY."
"I mean it.", her eyes narrow to highlight her sincerity of her favor.

I agree with you that patching us up was good, especially when the lore suggested that most of them would leave us to die. That said, the previous events (Rickard's betrayal and the fight with Yôt-jeré) have set the tone of the quest and henceforth, we should not assume the best intentions in other people unless they prove them to us.

In light of this, I'd say it's not that absurd to assume that the main reason she helped us is simply because we have some value to her. She even said "...I have no reason to trust whatever comes out of your mouth but you are my only witness", which implies that there was a good chance she would have let us die if we weren't in a position to aid her in some way.

On the subject of the bear, note how even though we came up with an inventive, if unorthodox solution, she threatened to break our arm if we tried something like that. Then, she told us to inform her the next time the next time something like this happens, even though she originally said "...I would suggest that you speak only when spoken to". These seem like qualities that will cause problems down the road, especially considering what we know about the nature of the quest already.

She isn't the worse party member, but if we can, I'd recommend holding out for something that's less likely to blow up in our face. I don't mind a dick in the party, as long as the dick can fall in when needed and not jeopardize the cohesion of the party unit.

You again use the same gesture as before, preferring to not trouble the Virago any further.

[Virago liked that]

She grips her hands together in brief contemplation, recounting some thought before snapping back to you, "Okay firstly, we're getting you to Auntie Chen to patch you up, come follow." You both stroll into the familiar settlement you just passed by about two days ago. There isn't much activity like before but you do now notice the number of buildings that populate the area. One of them is of course the INN that you stayed, if you recall there wasn't much space in the rooms but it was enough to give a nice rest to travelers that have ventured all this way from the port city of Marren's Landing to visit the princesses in the island. Another building you see is a typical general store with a hanging sign by its window that display's "OPEN" through some small curtains. Connected to that building is a small smithing station with an inactive furnace; tools scattered around an absent worktable.

Just across the dirt path of that store is an old rickety building with a large signboard that reads: AUNTIE CHEN'S CLINIC in bold but fading painted letters. A large row of flowers decorate a garden around the establishment that contrasts its aged nature.
The two of you walk past the rainbow of plants and up to its creaking steps on the front porch and enter the clinic.

Once inside, you are walked through a curtain of beads and into a vacant space that is filled with a few cots and cupboards that hold a large assortment of labeled containers, some transparent enough for you catch that include some preserved roots and herbs of sorts. A large poster is stuck on the wall showing a sketch of a human anatomy, male by the looks of it. Beside it hangs a modestly sized framed picture that you can't quite make out from the glare of the peeking sunlight.

"Auntie? You here? I have someone that needs checking.", the Virago scans around the room right as a petite elderly woman emerges from a further corner of the house.

The wrinkled woman cranes her neck forward slowly, "Oh dear, who is that young man behind you Thea dear...?". This causes a bit of an irked but embarrassed expression from the Virago but she quickly tries to clear it away, "Auntie, what did I tell you ...about calling me that when I'm in uniform?"

"Oh forgive me...'Thalia'.", a sly but rugose smirk discreetly forms around the corner of the elder's lips.

You decide to butt in and introduce yourself to the ladies, "Hi...I'm Thomas. Thomas Fairway".
The elderly woman perks up and leans the best her hunching back could allow much to Thalia's clear vexation from your interruption, "What a lovely name that is, Thomas."

"Thank you, Ms. Chen."

"Ohohoho, that's Mrs. Chen. My husband works the store right in front of my clinic, you couldn't have missed it on your way here."

You didn't, "Does he work the smithing station as well?"

"He tinkers here and there, my sweet Ortho isn't a master blacksmith but he makes do to patch up some gear for some travelers."

Before you can continue your conversation with Chen, Thalia cuts in to return you the favour.
"Ummm, Auntie would you please just check him up?"

A wrinkled smile zooms close to your face with an audible whisper, "Don't mind Thalia, she's not used to talking to men her age."

"Auntie!"

"Oh honey, look what you did to poor Thomas. You dragged him stark naked all the way here! Poor soul.", her creased eyelids inspect your body while leading you to a nearby cot to sit.

"That wasn't my fault. He *discarded* his clothes willingly and without warning."

"That is still no reason for you to leave him like this."
She motions you to take a seat and starts pressing on your joints until she finds your healing shoulder, sending a numbed jab of pain.
"How would you feel like if a man traipses you around with nothing but these leaves to hide your privies? That is not proper my dear."

Thalia does not answer, instead she watches in silent observation as Auntie Chen continues to berate her behavior towards you.

"And what's this?" She rubs her two rumpled fingers together and takes a whiff of it, " Thalia dear, you used the wrong balm on the poor man and this isn't enough."
Her old arms are slow but familiar to her surroundings as she waddles towards one of the many cupboards while having her attention focused on the silent Virago, "Do you understand? Tekille balms are used for muscle pain, you need something stronger for something like this ,dear"

"I...", her eyes narrow, "understand Auntie. I'm sorry."

She dips a finger into an odourless container and scoops a generous amount before applying it to your shoulder, "Don't apologize to me dear..,"
A strong and icy feeling overpowers the tactile sense of your limb which quickly spreads and nullifies the better part of your arm completely, "Apologize to poor Thomas."

She starts jostling your arm around but you do not perceive her doing so at all as if it has been completely disconnected. Meanwhile, Thalia is at a loss for words in her struggle for an apology.

"Weren't you supposed to send a message to your Virago buddies or something?"
Your cursory response cuts through her in a surprise, exacerbating the disconcerted Virago further, "Like hell I'm leaving you here with—"

"Thalia honey, if you have something urgent to do I suggest you deal with that...well urgently." You see your arm being twisted and examined around with no feeling, it's a strange thing to see to be so detached in sense but also fascinating in a way.

"But—"

Auntie Chen abruptly cuts her off, "I can deal with him, thank you dear."

"Auntie, he's under my custody—"

"He's not really going anywhere, dear. Now off you go."

The stunned Virago tries to respond but upon realizing the futility of it begrudgingly surrenders you to the physician's care. Before she leaves, she shoots you a denunciatory glare, motioning two of her fingers to point towards her own eyes before to you.
After a few moments of her disappearance an innvervation of relief washes over you as the doctor continues to do her work.

"It was not too bad and the numbing agent will wear off soon enough, might as well give you a check-up in the meantime."
She slowly cradles you to lie down and asks you to inhale deeply as she presses around your torso, "Young man you should not be taking off your clothes willy-nilly in front of ladies."
You have taken that in consideration but the circumstances warranted you to discard your clothes at the moment; you exhale.
"It was necessary, ma'm. A bear has caught our scent and was attracted to the stink of my clothes", you deliberately leave out the source of that very stink.
"Bollocks! You should never, ever, do it regardless! Manners my boy, it is the only thing that divides us from the wild beasts and savages."
She nurses you to sit back up to face her as she starts to check on your other arm, applying pressure at different locations, "Thalia has every right to give you a cold shoulder for that behavior alone." She gently ticks your forehead, "Use this son, you look like a smart lad."

She grabs a towel to wipe her hands clean, "Would you believe that I used to be a Virago in my younger days? Course having met my husband meant that I renounce my vows."

You do remember your Da ,who was an accomplished ranger, do the exact same maneuver to redirect wildlife from himself. Was he a good role model to follow? Yes and no but it does work from time to time. However, you do admit that you should've at least tried to keep your boxers with you.

"You really were part of the Virago Coterie?", you curiously inquire.

"Yes, yes. Of course. Most of it was probably spent walking around and flailing my weapon around so stupid people don't get any bright ideas. Sure there were ups and downs but that's just life, and the best you can do is keep moving forward. It couldn't have been all bad, it's how I met my husband. Ha!"
Her gummy chuckle causes her to lightly slap your bare thigh, "Us Virago usually have this kind of belief that the right man is out there somewhere, just as lost and naive as we are. I think we got that from the princesses, it is definitely a nice and idyllic way of putting things. You see not everyone just becomes a Virago, you have to be no older than eighteen to even be admitted in but most of us are usually just orphans looking for some place to belong with purpose. Everyone's free to leave as they wish but most of us never do since it is where the closest people in our lives are."

"One of the things I really hated was the rumours, I really do think they oughtta stop it with that kind of drivel. Shame. There was really nothing you can do about it either. I remember getting into so much fights just because some idiot thought they knew better."
She sighs heavily upon reminiscing some past thoughts with a shake of her head, "I think that's enough ramblings of an old crone. How about you, Mr. Thomas Fairway, how did you end up around these parts? I'm guessing it has something to do with something princess related?"

She shoots you a wry grin as an elbow nudges your side.
"Which one have you met so far? Oh they're all so lovely it's hard to believe they haven't all eloped with some handsome hero yet."

"So who are they exactly? I've only heard of the Rabbit Princess in the forest beyond this place."

The elderly woman shuffles around the room, opening and closing different cupboards and closets, " If you already met Bunnty, Mod bless her soul, there's also Brónach, the Pious Princess about west of Rabbitwood. Pilgrims from all over the world usually come visit her once every year. Her saints do some charity work too, she truly is Mod's chosen. Then up north just across that long bridge is...."

A short pause from Auntie Chen causes her to ponder deeply, "...oh her name always slips by me but she's the Puppet Princess, her festivals are always so lovely despite the far distance you have to travel although I know she isn't hosting one this year which is disappointing. Then even further north is Danika, the Vampire Princess. I personally only have met her once in the Puppet Princess' festival and she honestly gives me the creeps. Not adding that some people that venture into her tower never return, Mod knows what she's doing to those poor souls."

"Ah, there we are.". She pulls out some neatly folded fabric from a wardrobe and brings it to you, unfurling them and assisting you to put them on as if you are disabled.

You try to tell her that you can handle it but she insists on doing it so you just oblige.
"I usually have to cut open my patient's outfits and such so I just have these neat clothes hanging around to give out so they don't walk around with torn garments."

You step out of the cot to pull up your pants and fit inside the provided shoes. It's a little tight in some areas but all in all it has a rustic comfort to it.

"So what exactly is her type?", you ask impishly.
A wrinkled finger finds its way to scratch her aged chin, " Well, those wandering types with the long and wavy hair. You know those." In all honesty, you get the feeling that she's just egging you on but you feel flattered either way.

"She's young but unfortunately she's a Virago. I sometimes worry that she'll end up like me, nearly reaching the twilight of my days before settling down with my Ortho. Thea should at least find someone her age to actually experience life together."

You nod understandingly, although you do not have any wisdom of being in a relationship you recognize Auntie Chen's misgivings on her youth. Perhaps it's time you should get someone to share your life with?

"Oh I do hate to blather on but I do hear her returning. Shush!" Brisk footsteps creak the panels of wood as the curtain of beads part for the Virago's return. You are the first person she sees but quickly averts her line of sight to that of Auntie's.

"So is he fit for further travel, Auntie?"

"Fit as a fiddle! Aside from that shoulder, which should heal in no time."

"Good. Thanks."
She pockets some change from a pouch (not yours since you have been eyeing yours on her belt quite sharply) and relays it to the elderly woman. She accepts it warmly and with contentment.

Thalia then nimbly snags you towards the exit of the wooden house until she plants you firmly in place with a stony glare, "I've just sent word about the situation to my superiors. You are to stay here until another Virago is to escort you back to Marren's Landing. Once there they will receive your testimony properly."

"Nay." ,she waves her hand, " It stays with me until you are to be relieved of my custody. You can stay at the inn at the meantime while I try to investigate what is going on."

Damn, that sucks.

[] Bullshit, I'm not waiting here.
[] (Try to convince her in giving your stuff back) (Write- In)
[] Wait, are you going to be paying for lodging?
[] Where are you going?
[] Your aunt says that I'm your type, is that true? (Flirt)

Might as well get an idea of how long we have to make our next move.

I supposed it would ve fine as long as you you still draw whe the scene changes or when new characters are introduced.

"Listen, could you at least leave the knife? It's all I got left of my Da. I did what you asked, and if you're worried about me waylaying your gran, let her keep it. She's a former Virago, and she'll know the time when I can have it back."

You sigh deeply, "Fine, How long am I going to have to wait here?"

"By my estimate around two to three days at the most. You will be staying there while waiting." She points towards the modest INN not too far away back along the path as you two retrace back to enter the establishment.

Once inside, it's as you remember it. A front desk harbors a hunched man past his years with a bandana tied around his head. Heavily hairy eyebrows have grown on to nearly cover his eyes completely. Behind him are a myriad of keys dangling with numbers above their hooks. A large ledger is laid upon the lacquered desk with names scribbled on its pages. You are sure that you can find your name if you turn the pages back a few.
An inked parchment is nailed to the wall with the words: "YES! I can hear you!".

"Welcome!", he greets you with raspy voice.

By a table not too far off the corner, you spot a peculiar woman in simple garbs covering herself from head to toe. Within her hands is a long staff crested by a circular shape with a teardrop skewed in the center . She appears to be in deep concentration and whispering some words to herself when a single tear sparkles off her cheek.

"It's 10 silver a night. There's an extra 5 silver per head after you. You break anything in the room, that's extra charge. 11:00 is lights out, any noise you make after that is extra as well upon checkout, no ifs and buts."
He takes a feather and leaves it on an inkwell while presenting the open book to you both.

[] <point to Thalia> She's paying.

We're flat broke and she knows it; it's there least that she can do for taking us away from nature.

You have my knife, my crossbow, and my crown. You're paying.

>After she's finished grumbling

Look at it this way. You'll probably be reimbursed when you get back to your bosses.

Sorry for being somewhat of an unproductive session, here's a Thalia for an apology.

Maybe tomorrow will fare better.

Hmm, I wonder if that woman is one of the pilgrims for Pious Princess.

Page 10, can't wait for the next thread.

Since the thread is pretty much on its last legs anybody want to discuss anything about the quest?
Critiques are also appreciated.

Judging by the response to our nudity, we should probably go over any social norms of the locale (that Thomas is aware of, at least) that would affect us in unexpected ways. We shouldn't review everything, but it would be helpful to know things that would not be immediately obvious. For instance we can forego being told 'people don't like theft', but I would definitely prefer to know something akin to 'using someone's given name without their consent or an honorific is grounds for being fined in court'.

Also, I like your art.

Oh alright, duly noted.
Also, thanks.

Before heading to /qst/, I did some art and OC for /coc/ with low reception so compliments are always nice but critiques are always better.

I don't know shit about drawing.
>>
>>3800240
From what I've generally received, you don't really need to know about drawing to say that a drawing looks off.
