You take to your morning stretches with semi-reluctance. While these have certainly become easier in the last few weeks, that doesn't mean they still feel great. You work out all the cricks in your back with success. But, unfortunately- dad's out of town for the next week or so for business in the city. While he'll be making it back in time for the holidays, you still had to wave a tearful goodbye yesterday. And now you can't have dad's pancakes for the next week.

You do, however, relish in the chance to don your winter uniform! You adorn yourself in your loose Banchu Highschool cardigan - it's clingy and cozy, albeit a little tight. Unfortunately, with the recent snowfall, you've been kind of falling behind in your jogging, so you've just been doing push-ups in your home lately.

You check on your SPIRIT MINIONS. You stamp on the floor. Meatloaf floats through the wall lazily. There he is! A good boy. Great for dumping the remains of your failures at cooking in.
Akira is almost definitely sleeping. Shiro is currently sharing a body with Naoko Sunderland - they have some system worked out, but for now, Shiro spends most of her time over with Sunderland in the apartment. She still comes at your beck and call though and acts like a puppy when around you. It's kind of goofy how much she admires you. You can tell if it's Shiro or Naoko based on whether the body's wearing glasses at the time.

You also have an EXPOSITIONAL FLASHBACK -.. a month passed by and the ghost presence certainly shot up, but not in a cataclysmic way. Just in a way that offered the Spirits and Such Club WAY more business. You currently attend the club every day instead of every other day due to the jobs you've been getting. Katsu ended up alright after his injury and a few days in the hospital. Akira is still.. Akira.
News has been spreading of the heavy spirit presence and you've noticed a few more businesses dedicated to spirit work popping up in the mean time as well as tons more people moving in. The small town of Shikano is seeing a pretty intense boom in tourism and revenue.

After dumping the plate into the sink, you begin the run- actually, walk, to school. The sidewalks are a bit icy with the recent snowfall and you'd rather not end up face planting again.

You sidle into your classroom almost an hour early - but much to you surprise, you're not the only student present. One student in particular is sitting at the back of the class in YOUR seat, reading some dumb academic book. You've never seen him before.

You attempt to study. Your arrempts are.. middling, to say the least. Your eyes keep drifting to the psychic boy sitting next to you. Another psychic- what are you gonna do if he finds out about Akira? Sure, their
ghostly aura is gone- but if they suspect even the slightest hint of another spirit lurking in that body, they could easily drag him out and kill him for the last time. That's not even mentioning Meatloaf or Shiro.

"Oh, I see." The boy returns his gaze to his book. He seems to think that you're just a chuunibyou, which for once, is actually good for you.

The rest of the students filter in - Akira looks noticeably a little pale, but Katsu seems chipper than ever. Much to your dismay, however - two more students that you don't quite recognize happen to appear all the same.
One is a taller, lankier student. The other is a girl who is strikingly pretty. It really pisses you off. You glance to the left to catch sight of the boy next to you close up his book and slouch toward the front of the class.

The teacher shushes your whispering classmates as the first bell of homeroom rings. "As I'm sure you can see, you'll find that you have a few new classmates today." He nods to the students. "They'll be transferring into this class as of today."
"My name is Naoto. It's nice to meet all of you." The teleporting boy bows his head. "And-.. I'm a psychic-"
"Oh, wow! Really?!" The middle girl gasps, tilting her head at the boy. She smiles warmly. It's in an attractive way that makes you feel extremely insecure. "My name's Rise. I'm actually a psychic too!"
"Yosuke." The taller boy states non-commitally. "Psychic."

Oh FUCK.

The rest of the class begin to filter out from their seats to talk to the new students, much to the disapproval of your homeroom teacher, evidently in awe at the three, which really pisses you off, because no one did that when YOU came to school. YOU have psychic powers too!
Class continues on as per normal, with the exception of your new classmates. You manage to coast through the morning hesitantly and quietly. You didn't catch sight of what the other newcomers' powers were, but tbis is a worrying trend to see. Why all of them NOW?
You make it to lunch after stumbling through your classes with difficulty in actually paying attention to what your teachers were talking about and allowing you to breathe.

Examining the classroom, Akira is with their usual group of popular friends- albeit, Rise is there with her and Akira seems to be sweating noticeably. Yosuke is talking with a group of soccer players. Naoto's still reading his book. Katsu is sitting alone.

Taking out your phone, you shoot Akira a quick text letting them know to meet you outside to get them a chance to breathe away from Rise. You catch sight of your minion staring down at their phone and excusing themselves from the conversation.
They easily slip out of class.
You stand up awkwardly in the middle of class. "FUFUFU.. I AM EXCUSING MYSELF! TO USE! THE RESTROOM!" You loudly proclaim, drawing the attention of everyone in the class. You then run out.
Akira doesn't bother greeting you. "This is bad." They hiss. "You do know how bad this is, right?"
"You need to RELAX, minion. You're gonna get caught if you keep looking around all shifty-like." You command them proudly, crossing your arms.
"RELAX? How do you expect me to RELAX?" Akira's hands are noticeably shaking. This is the first time you've actually seen them this scared. "These guys can kill me again with a THOUGHT. And Rise keeps-.. looking at me all funny. She keeps saying her power is a secret, but I think she knows something. What do you want me to do?"

TV’s ghost touch was power disruption, not drain I am reasonably sure. We actually tried to use it couple of times, it did shit but without targets we do not know how effective it is.

You continue through your classes quietly and tiredly. Akira's absence is noticed but doesn't seem to draw much suspicion from the psychics. Rise is chatting it up with the popular kids. Yosuke is being cool and distant. Naoto has his head in his studies.
As the last bell rings, you move to leave to go to the Spirits and Such Club rather than waiting for the rest of the students to filter out- but Rise stops you. She smiles warmly at you. It's a smile that touches your heart while simultaneously pissing you off.

"So, um-.. Morgan, right?" You feel your face turn hot in anger, but you can't seem to speak up against her seeming radiance in protest. "I've heard that you're actually a psychic, too. That's really cool if it's true! Is it..?"
"Fufufu! Why, of course I'm a psychic!" You sneer, pulling a cool pose. "Not only can I utilize my cool PSYCHO DASH, my EVIL HEAL and-"
"Oh, I see." Rise sighs, evidently a hint of disappointment creeping into her tone. "Okay! See you tomorrow." She offers you a half-hearted wave as she begins to walk out.

She leaves. That was weird. You still have the club to go to.

As you round the corner to arrive at the small, abandoned little clubroom, you come to find Katsu arguing with the student council president. And for the first time, probably ever, he actually sounds.. frustrated?

"-c-can't do that! I-I put so m-much work in, a-a-and after the spike in spectral activity, w-we still have so much work to do- y-you, you can't-.."

You shoot Shiro/Sunderland a text regarding an emergency meeting, but oddly enough, they don't respond right away. Typically, you'd get a message back in moments, what with the two being unemployed.
As you begin your careful walk back home across the icey sidewalk of the school, you hear a sharp whistle from alarmingly close. You glance up from your phone just in time to catch sight of a strange, scruffy, panicky trench-coated man wearing an eye-mask, furiously trying to explain himself to a younger female student with a whistle in her hands. He's carrying a bundle of papers in one hand and shaking them directly at her.
"No! Listen, kid, don't blow the whistle, I'm not a pervert!- I'm looking for young kids like yourself to work for me, alright? Just swing by my office some time, and- that's not- no, not like that!" He trips over his words as the girl backs away from him, visibly disgusted. "No! Look, I'm not a flasher. Just looking for employees..! I'm wearing formal wear here! I'm a gentleman, right- Look-, right here-.."
The man opens up his trench coat suddenly. The girl screams again as she covers her eyes. "No, look! I'm not naked under here, kid-..!-.. oh, officer." He turns his head just in time to catch sight of a disgusted looking policeman approaching him. He looks relieved. "See, I'm looking for employees, right? Started a ghost hunting business just recently. I'm an esper, and-.. Officer?"

The masked man seems to get the idea and suddenly shoves the bundle of papers into the officer's face before breaking out into a full sprint away from the situation, shouting that he's not a pervert. The sheets fly across the street, an icy wind carrying some to the pavement in front of you. You bend down to pick one up.
It seems to have been written in crayon. Each sheet is.. individually made. Does he not know what a photocopier is? It's advertisement for Kagyu's Phantom Thief Office. 300 yen per hour is.. nothing. Interestingly, it's operating out of where Needful Lendings once was, in the office built over the building's corpse.

Taking a breath, you slump yourself against the wall, close your eyes, and break your spirit free of your body, using your very cool and badass SPIRIT REND technique.
You float through the door to see-.. no one. You examine the room intently. Akira 2 is still there. There's a dirty plate of peanut butter eggs in the sink. Seems fresh, at least. Guess she's just not home and not responding to her phone?

Looking at your phone, you notice a text from Sunder-.. actually, it's Shiro. The text has cute little emoticons in it. Sunderland hates emoticons.

Shiro informs you that she was working and couldn't check her phone, which surprises you, because Sunderland is basically unemployable. She got a gig as a secretary in some office apparently and is on until about 11 PM tonight. Something called the "Phantom Thief Office."

The Phantom Thief Office sounds IMMENSELY LAME, but you figure you might as well head there, donning your BADASS trench coat and slipping out the door. You trudge to the old address of Needful Lendings quietly.
The office replacing the old thrift shop looks IMMENSELY LAME as well. It lacks the cool, dirty, abandoned aura the old building had. Just looks like a plain, concrete box. An IMMENSELY LAME sign hangs distended from the door, reading "Phantom Thief Office: Spirit Consultation."
You enter the building as the door chimes. The first thing that immediately strikes you is how small the interior is. It looks to be MAYBE a little bit bigger than Sundereland's own apartment. It opens up into a reception area - several stained red leather chairs scattered about, a water cooler, and an open hall to the left side of the room. To the right, across from the entrance, a receptionist desk lies where Sunderland/Shiro sit.
She greets you in surprise. "O-oh! Master!" She exclaims. "I- uh, didn't know you'd be coming.."

You go up to her and do your COOL SECRET HANDSHAKE. You developed this with her to know if you'd been replaced or not and because it's VERY COOL. It also helps you tell whether it's Shiro or Sunderland piloting, because Sunderland would rather kill herself than follow along with the cool handshake.

Shiro closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. As she opens them, a more familiar set of tired eyes replaces her more bubbly look. Sunderland removes the glasses.
"Huh?" She sighs, her eyes narrowing at you. "What do you want?"
You offer her the same question to which she side-eyes you. "Uh.. no. I don't actually really know that many people, so yeah. No. Good luck with finding another host."

I found this big book of 'em a while ago in the old shop. You should be able to fuse him with his host, but it'd be pretty costly. You'd need at least a few esper users lending their energy for the combination. Akira'd lose a lot of his personality in the process and a fair few memories, but he'd be basically become one with the host. No leaving the body. It'd basically be bringing him back from the dead."

After bidding audieu to your spectral servant, you cross the hall - there is no door. It simply opens up into an office area. Rather, you simply jump into the office, striking a cool pose.
"PHANTOM THIEF KAGYU!" You announce proudly. "I HAVE COME FOR YOU FOR YOUR SI- Wo- woah!" You watch as the suited figure in front of you - who was brooding at his office window - swinging around, flinging a full wine glass at the wall next to you. It shatters, spilling wine over numerous important looking documents.
"Ohohohoh! But-.. I already FORESAW your approach, ESPER SOPHIA!" He laughs, crossing his arms with a flourish of his trench coat. "Did you really think that the best psychic of the twenty first century couldn't foresee a meeting with a dark lord such as yourself?!"

Every ghost and psychic we've seen has possessed basic psychic manipulation and ONE special talent.

My theory is that Asmodea has the special talent of ABSORPTION, which allows her to steal abilities from defeated foes. Thats why Popular McBitchFace immediately dismissed us as a fraud. She thought we were a poser who had no idea how espers actually function. And to be fair shes half right.

in reality however Asmodea could be strong enough to lead or create her own secret psychic group.

Even moreso if SYNAPSE LINK allows us to copy knowledge of a technique to another individual.

Also, Shiro could be amazingly useful if we got her some acting classes. Or had her possess an actor or actress.

I remember Psycho Dash, Evil Heal, and Spirit Rend, but those are all the powers I think we've used up to this point.

We only really have the ghosts to go off of in this case. We haven't really met any Espers until recently, so we don't really know if they have the same limits, or if they are as versatile as us.
I think the main reason she over looked us was for the same reason Naoto did, because we are painfully, so very painfully, chuuni.

Maybe it's a psychic power, maybe it's entirely natural, it doesn't actually matter because the simple fact that she is so charismatic makes her the most dangerous enemy a chuuni could ever face. Would that reason be because the big ghost told us specifically, or because of how the other ghosts so far have reacted to the presence of psychics?

But seriously, yes, there's a huge difference. And even if we throw aside the ethical implications of killing your own kind, there's the practicality of it. If you exorcise a ghost, everyone except the ghost is happy. But if you kill an actual living person, you get police investigations, everyone freaks out, and if the death is ever traced back to you, you're fucked in every way imaginable.

And then on top of that, you want to consume that person's soul (...is that even an option?), which, I don't even know what the implications of that ARE. I just know that for someone whose most evil and depraved act so far is befriending Akira (granted, that IS absolutely fucked up), this is crossing a lot of lines all at once.

Raising your hands, you float some of his wine-stained documents up and begin to swirl them around the room - creating a vortex of client information that's probably way to important to be playing with. Kagyu doesn't seem to care, though.
"Nyohoho! An esper- well, then, psychic- What do you think of this?!" Staring up at the tornado of wine-stained paper, the grown man takes a breath and seems to concentrate before reaching out and plucking every bit of paper from the tornado with ease. He manuevers his hands to snatch every single sheet with ease.

It's kind of impressive, sure, but like, it's not really psychic.

"BEHOLD!" Kagyu flings his trench coat over his desk, knocking over several stacks of paper and a mug of wine, which shatters against the floor. He waves the sheets of paper he grabbed around. "Every single document expertly caught, Maria!"

On one hand, you COULD work for this guy for a little bit. Three jobs is nothing. On the other hand, this weirdo seems REALLY fishy. If you wanted, you're sure that even if you did decline, you'd still find another way to go about cheering up Katsu with something.

"Very well. Fufufuf~.. First! I want-" Kagyu pushes you aside with ease, stepping foward. Rubbing his hands together for a moment, he flings open in the hall connecting the reception area and his office. Peering inside, you find stacks of files scattered about errantly.
"This place contains some files from my LAST psychic ventures. Another town over. I don't need them, so should you move in, you can simply throw them out." He shrugs. "It's about the size of MY office, so should you want any more space, you'll have to procure a jackhammer and carve it out yourself. You can spend as MUCH time here as you'd like, so long as you close up after if you leave after we do."

He clearly has some level of precognition. Not being aware of our association with Shiro suggests that precognition might also be the limit of his clairvoyance though. It seems he's not reading our mind for example, or able to see our past but rather that he just knows what we were already about to tell him. He finishes sentences, but he doesn't react to anything before we've already begun saying or doing it.
