Mother Guiana is but a living carcass, The Frostblight has consumed the land, most races have vanished centuries ago but few has survived this onslaught. They fight among each other, small pockets squabbling over non-existent resources. More misery has taken root when the race of constructs , The Argeans , attempted to cure the world of the frostblight only to add another curse : The Blue Rust.

Everywhere is a desolate wasteland but this area in particular has some potential to be habitable at the very least. What did you stumble upon?

Pick a place:

>The Great Silent
A ocean frozen in time, Home of many sunken ancient vessels. A small island with a lonesome spire surrounded by an thick icesheet, cruel with virtually nothing on the surface. However, Life finds a way in down below. The Great Silent also holds its share of dark secrets in the dark abyss. Dare you to uncover them?

>The Eternal Machine
Once built by the now-extinct dwarves, this giant beast of Iron and cogs remains partially imprisoned in frostblight with its unfrozen part plagued by the blue rust, It stands as a testament of one of many futile attempts to combat the sudden death of Guiana.

>Slavetown of Ae'thil
The proud elven race of the north used to have a whole town near their glorious forests. When the frostblight claimed the world, the elves formed a barrier around their home, ignoring the fate of their slaves. Now abandoned, Some structures still stand unscathed by the horrid frostblight.

>The Labyrinthe
Under the largest of mountains lies an ancient prison. It was made for forgotten horrors who remains shackled to this day. To neighbor beast and monsters is truly desperate.

Pick Race/Gender

>Human [Male or Female]
Perhaps the most numerous due their stubbornness to exist. They are the most adaptable due to their nomadic nature, despite of their large numbers, they are scattered across the wasteland without a place to call home. Most of the remaining races tolerate them.

>Faroi [Male or Female]
A crossbreed between human/elves with the Faoi, a race of horned giants. They are quite resilient to the frostblight, capable of surviving harsher nights. Their natural strength is something to behold.

>Elf [Female only]
Isolationists, xenophobes. Most of the elves have severed themselves from the rest of world. Those who roam the unforgiving wasteland are mostly exiles.

>Argean [Male only]
Sentient constructs who were hunted down to near extinction due to the Blue Rust incident which also had reaped many of their kind. They are only tolerated by humans who often welcome them in their lives.

Your name is Gaeleath Yesthyra, a relatively young 137 year old elf with a lushful greenish hair and a slender, long body who was recently exiled from the warmth of Ae'ytha, the everblossom forest. It was inevitable; your elders are overly protective to a sickening degree. They followed the old ways to preserve your home. Why does every male child have to be sacrificed to join the ancestral soul-fold? Why is it forbidden for non-Telethia to form any contact with the outside world?

Your questions and peculiar soul were often shunned by many. 'Dangerous Knowledge' they said. Hah! They know nothing. The world is changing, eventually, this dreadful change will consume your kind, Soul-fold or no. You began your secret research almost four decades ago, studying what little you can get your delicate hands on.

The way of the Machinus, practiced by several races and pioneered by the dwarves. Yes, It was cold; Cogs, Steams, Steel...it was the opposite of everything you knew and yet it was alluring to you. The way of the Arcanus certainly didn't cleanse the world of the frostblight. Why should you put your trust in it?

They have eventually caught you and your smuggled stash of books and parts. They feared your instiabable lust for knowledge would affect the barely existing youth. You had a day to pack up and leave. And so you did, you were thrown in a cruel, cruel world.

After you had consumed your last Pyrestone, you were certain of your demise. Your fragile body was shriveling, Your hair was growing grey. This was it.

It would have been if you have found a lonesome spire in the distance.

The so called great silent used to be a glorious sea, the human slaves would brings untold bounties from it to their rightful masters. Now this is barren, gigantic icesheets cover it as far as the eye can see. This spire was erected on a small island. While it did look ancient, it had none of that elven elegance, strange.....

No matter, you dragged what was left of your belongings and carefully walked on the icesheets, you didn't want to propagate more cracks. Finally, you had sought shelter there, It was a shame that you lost more than half of what you used to have a few days ago. there was no door to speak of, only the remnants of some twisted black metal and the poor hinges. What happened here?

The main entrance was enough for you to escape the frigid death outside, you quickly checked your belongings...

Nehes'tr roughly translates to 'nectar bread', It had neither bread nor nectar in it. It is preserved meat of giant insects inside the oldest trees in the forest. It is sweet and tasty but most importantly, It will retain heat for weeks if stored properly, not enough to cast away the frozen shadow of death but rather enough to enjoy a warm meal.

>With enough rationing, your food supplies can last up to two weeks.

Imagine shooting the same practice dummy for decades to no end. It was...maddening, even hunting precious prey was only reserved to the selected few. Needless to say, you have honed your archery skill. If you are to meet any potential danger, you know what to do.

Of all the books you had collected, only two has survived, as it happened, you had acquired both recently. You didn't have the chance to read them; there are more important priorities at hand.

>You have Book: Intricacies of Khzifltas
>You have Book: An account on Yyraz Skymines, Vol 1

Elves have little use of measuring temperature; the Soul-Fold keeps the forest in the most optimal temperature ever since it was erect. It matters deeply here where a single temperature drop can and will kill you. It is hard to understand but this relentless weather? It is the least form of dreadfulness. This is 'summer' so to speak, the frostblight is not manifesting itself like in other seasons.

All of this knowledge comes from the Gamon, A human apparatus resembling a small metal orb with a glassy eye in the center. It should tell you the current temperature right now

>You have a Gamon, The temperature is currently -10 Archz or Ar

You had much work to be done but first you had to recollect some of your studies, some may help you immediately, others in the near/far future.

Pick four focuses, Special Focuses cost twice as much.

Normal Focuses

>Tinkering
Tinkering focuses on mass producing smaller automatons with simpler tasks at mind. They are often expendable, cheap and of lower quality. Tinkering can also be applied in making simple gadgets. Lastly, It will expand upon your jurry rigging capabilities making the best out of the worst.

>Salvage
Salvage focuses on handling and breaking down ruins of an old world scrapping precious parts for other projects. It also helps in identifying what is worth your time and what is not.

>Contraption
Contraption focuses on understanding and disarming various ancient traps laid down and forgotten by their trapmakers. Furthermore, It is crucial to understand the inner workings of several mechanisms.

>Construction
Construction focuses on manufacturing larger, more complex and more reliable but expensive automatons with various functions. Several ambitious projects relies on good construction for its foundation.

>Processing
Processing focuses on turning crude or raw materials into more refined parts for other projects be it big or small.

1/2
>>
>Extraction
Extraction focuses on harvesting raw materials from different resources, be it inanimate or live resources.

>Technotheruge
Technotheruge focuses on alternative non-steam forces of power which in turn can create power weapons or special gadgets. Special non-traditional Projects requires sufficient knowledge in the subject

>Steamworks
Steamworks heavily focuses on Steam core and its application on different projects, weapons or gadgets. It is integral to the way of the Machinus

Special Focuses (cost 2 instead of 1)

>Technomancy
Technomancy is the unwanted child of both The way of the Machinus and The way of the Arcanus. Various colours of magic which will bend the natural laws of this dying world to the Technomancer's favour. Beware the rot....

>Thermotheruge
Thermotheruge focuses on manipulating, converting and maintaining temperature. To truly combat the accursed frostblight (and the Blue rust), one must be truly versed in this long forgotten art.

>>
The dwarves had resented their divines, cursing them for their short stature and lifespan. They resorted to their minds for answers. And so, they foraged the mightiest of empires known for their steam machinations, hulking brass hissing death and melting flesh upon all.

Not all of their inventions challenged the skies, their children would play their little tinkering toys, visionaries in the making. This child's play has caught the eye of the practitioners of the way of the Machinus; why settle with mere toys when you can have an army of miniature automatons and metal drones mindlessly working for your behalf? The underhanded art of tinkering was reborn, it was one of the factors that brought Dwarven Supremacy to its greatest highest before its ultimate fall...

>Your Tinkering is now (1) allowing you to:
-Jury rig/repairing simple weapons/gadgets
-Tinker Mgihnn, a small rat-sized brass toy
-be able to experiment with very basic gadgets
-much more...

Giant lifeless Constructions wasn't exclusively dwarven. Various magically inept races have gone for this route to assert their dominance before the Frostblight would wipe most out. You read about a great mechanical bird named Valoyre, one of the few marvels of human engineering. Even the filthy orcs had a walking fortress made from green spit and wishful thinking. It is not a far fetched dream to create something note worthy in time...

>Your Construction is now (1) allowing you to:
-Construct Faeirk, A very basic multipurpose automaton.
-Much more...

Only a handful chose to study the Frostblight (and the Blue Rust) while others were too busy to survive out there. They had noble goals but they either failed or their lives were cut short. You had the privilege to read one of the most known Techomancer's book; Gaileta the Mad. He was one of those horned Giants, a Faoi, who studied the effects of Frostblight on various subjects. He concluded that the frostblight has a 'will' of its own. Yes, he described it as an entity in a sense.

He went further on his hypothesis stating that it could be 'lured' with a crude creation of his, an apparatus running on blood which will drive this unnatural bitter cold somewhere else. The Technomancer forwent the notion of using conventional heat sources for warmth stating that 'The Icy bits will know, they will nibble-nabble on your petty flames.'

You don't know whether his words are useful or not but you have memorized his apparatus.

>Your Thermotheruge is now (1) allowing you to:
-Construct The Bl-shgr, a basic apparatus which will ward off the frostblight...maybe
-Much more...

You had but a single purpose: to survive the night. The white wind was blowing in your face sending piles of snow in the lonely spire's entrance. The place was littered with lots of metal scraps, some were sadly affected by the Blue Rust. This bluish taint is harmful to both flesh and metal. A disease slumbering in old metal bits ready to propagate further upon any contact.

You looked around, the main stairway was blocked by an enormous pile of rubble and other rubbish. There was a small room to your right, its door was locked with a set of chains. Finally, a trapdoor was in a lonesome corner. While it was open, it had dried bloodstained all over it. You could see a jutting pile of bones next to it partially hidden in the snow.

What will you do?

>Eat, you must have enough strength before committing to any task
>Attempt to block the entrance with whatever scraps you can find

In a span of three hours, you have managed to more or less separate this mumble-jumble of scraps in more organized pile. You piled up the Blue Rust with a couple of long cylinders as quickly as possible before throwing them amongst their inflicted brethren.

You don't know where exactly did this strange barrel come from, looks like it was made from various bone parts? The sludge was dark brown in colour....are those...teeth in the mixture?

It had no particular smell, It was extremely viscous as well. You were surprised to see this sludge solidifying in mere minutes when you used a bent iron scrap to scoop it up. Interesting...

By then , the tips of your hair were turning into black. Death is slowly crawling upon your freezing body. You can feel it.

I'm not sure if the conditions we are in allow this, but here's my stupid idea
>use ice and deadwood to start a fire using the ice to make a lens
If you get a chunk of ice, you can shape it into a lens to focus sunlight and get a heat source more reliably than rubbing sticks. We're next to an ice sheet and can use scrap metal both as a rudimentary tool to shape the ice and as metal sheets to protect the fire from elements.

[Slight Success]

>You used 2 small iron scraps

Going outside was a huge risk to take but you sorely needed a chunk of crystal clear ice in order to start a fire. You tinkered a crude carving tool, an acceptable handle combined with a rather sharp piece of iron. The wind continued to scathe this desolate landscape as you struggled to carve out anything of substance. The Icesheet was ungodly thick, you were no where near this body of water. Your hands were freezing, your once lushful green hair was blackened half way through...you don't have much time left...

>Your tinkering skill is increasing..

Back inside the spire, you refined this chunk of ice into a small ball, you are most fortunate to see the sun in the first place. She is normally obscured by daunting clouds for months to no end. You did your best to dry up the branches before holding your ice lens in the right angle above them. It took you a long while until smoke began to rise from the dead branches then embers and finally, a neonate fire.

>You have used 10 deadwood branches

It was a difficult task to maintain said fire with the ongoing wind blasting through the entrance so freely. A flicker of warmth in a corner, barely enough to keep you alive for a little while, that is, if it wasn't quelled by the winds first. Your blackish hair was starting to recede back a grayish colour, a hint of hope.

You just had to eat at this point, pulling out your Nehes'tr, its juices added more scented fuel to your little fire. Nothing wrong with heating up your meal.

>You have eaten a day's worth of food supplies

You were still shivering as the frozen ice on your clothes was starting to melt. Maybe this is all but a mistake. In comparison, you were living a life of pure luxury just before you were exiled. A surge of memories haunted you; you friends, your mother...you will never see them again.

Tears trickled down your cheeks before you wiped them off. You will prevail, you have to.

Now that you got a temporary resemblance of warmth. You will need to either wall off the entrance or making your way into an enclosed space.

What will you do?

>Fuel the fire with some of this unknown sludge?
>[Tinkering] Tinker something out of your current resources [Specify, sp. D 20]

Without proper tools at your disposal, you have wasted a lot of effort with little in return. Even with your crude tool, you couldn't break down most of the rubble. You barely managed to make a non existent barrier at entrance reaching just above your knee, anything further than that was blown away by the winds. The problem was obvious, you lacked sizable chunks of rubble AND something to keep them together somehow.

The fire was dwindling, dancing on what is left of the branches. Both your hands and legs were growing numb. Had it not been for your protective clothing, you would have lost your fingers and toes in such a terrible weather.

if anyone would post this in the thread, that would be great.

Suddenly, Your eyes darted over the trapdoor. It was flung wide open! You heart was frozen in its place; you never thought you would meet one of those abominations.

Your kind called them Ny'thras : 'The twisted ones', they are commonly known as the Darklings to the outside world. Humans, Elves, Orcs and many other races who fled in the dark bowels of Guiana when the Frostblight came. Their diet of mushroom sprouting from ancient rotten carcasses of dragons, giant worms and serpent has forever changed them to an inbred mix of feral creatures who rarely ventures to the surface.

The one crawling on all fours was a hunchback with a notable pulsating lump on her right shoulder. Her eyesockets consumed by the mushroom, She had various black scales covering her fragile emaciated body which was roughly covered by a tattered garment. She had an array of rotten teeth all crowded in her lipless mouth.

You shrieked like a newborn, shooting stacks of hay was nothing like that. You remained petrified at your place, where is your damn bow?! Out of reach! Out of reach!

The darkling proceeded to sniff the air around you, her long rancid tongue was drooling a thick ooze all over the floor. Her throat was all bloated out of the sudden, The darkling quickly went over the bone barrel with the unknown sludge only to regurgitate what you assumed to be her previous meal.

You wanted to run as far as your legs can take you but your very limbs have betrayed you choosing to wait for their demise. The Darkling shifted her attention back at you again opening her gigantic maw to swallow your head in one chomp....

Except it didn't happen.

"Aaaak ak aoyoo' Boola Kalaha!"

"Ie'tjha nythl? mo'acmmm?"

"Kzlanr ofela ?fmeinq!" Guttural words of bastardized languages, this was your suspicion. It became a solid reality when the darkling spoke in broken human, a language you were quite versed at.

"Elf notman hurt? Elf notman Cold?"

" Elf lives! Elf not stabb poor, poooor Juno, is right?" The tables have turned in the most immeasurable ways as her little dance around you has ended with a sudden display of ...fear? It can't be fear. She has the upper hand in everything, Is She not aware of her leverage?

"N-no, I won't hurt you." you kept your act together, it should be the other way around. Wait, Juno? She has a name. "Hello Juno, I-Elf is Gaeleath."

"Elf notman...is Galtha?" Juno kept pondering your statement exhibiting almost childish behavior as she started to lick her ear with her flexible tongue. You didn't attempt to correct her, Darklings are ill-tempered according to the books you have read about them. They can lash at you at any moment. This conversation of itself is a miracle of its own. Why did she have a name? Why didn't she followed your instinct and attacked you?

The fire was almost out, but the fear instilled in your veins was making you sweat, your beating heart was about to explode at any given moment "J-juno, Are you hungry? Do you want food? Nom eats?"

You took very slow movements and grabbed some of your food presenting it to Juno. The Darkling tilted her head in confusion "Juno full-empty. Feed on cold flesh sooo dead. Why attack poor Juno? Juno sleep alone, no harm to stabby and shootyers!" She began to weep smashing her head against the wall which didn't do much surprisingly.

All this sobbing has stopped when she looked at you with her fungal orbs "Wait, Elf notman Gaelo offer food? FOOD?! FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD?!!!!!!" A energetic bolt has struck the darkling as she wrapped herself around your frozen feet. The heat radiating from her body was so immense that you almost let out a moan of comfort while ignoring all manner of filthiness Juno currently was " Golo is Juno NEW MASTER? Correct yes? Juno so lonely. Master offer food to Juno, New Master offer food to Juno!!!!"

Well, Elves are known to enslave lesser races, it is part of your blood. Then again, Do you really trust having this putrid pile of meat to be so close to you? What happens if you say no? Will she tear you apart in rage? What would you say?

We are basically freezing to death right now and this creature has survived here and is emitting heat, at least for now there are many more reasons to keep it around than to risk fighting it.

Really interested in what that is all about, afterwards we should investigate the downstairs or have our new friend show us around, we need to get out of the cold.

This. She may be a putrid pile of meat, but she's not actively attacking us. We should check out what's under that trapdoor. Hopefully it's good shelter from the elements without anything trying to kill us immediately.

>Juno has eaten a day's worth of food supplies

"OH JOY! OH JOY!" Her squeeze was enough to splatter your limbs. Luckily she chose to prance about licking every bit of face haphazardly. You just took a couple of steps backward to give her some space.

"That Bone Barrel over there, did you make it?" You asked, already missing her warmth.

"Yes, yes. Keeps otherme away, bad scent of stew juices. Bad elf and non elf belong and ings stew here too. No one come for poor Juno salvaging but they come! Vegangance, I eat! Boohooo." Again, She starts to cry. You would have done the same if you were her, self defense and all that. Her previous Master must have broken the true feral beast inside her.

"There, there..." Just show does she radiates so much heat? a simple pat on the shoulder has made your hand all sweaty.

"Master Gaul, hair green!" Your hair was returning to its healthier colour thanks to the Juno's dose of heat "Oh no, grey...Master cold, truth?"

You nodded, the fire was out by now and the skies has darkened "Juno placehome no Master pal-ice roomelf tree . Less regard is shelter from blighty.."

The trapdoor didn't have stairs or ladders, just an old dangly rope leading to the abyss below. Gods above, that stench was worse than anything you had smelt before. You endured the smell upon your decent to the unknown, why is this taking too long?

The answer was vividly clear after mere seconds...

A most unnatural chasm made from countless collapsed floors colliding against each other in a cascade of pure chaos. Strangely enough, it is not fully submerged. The surrounding ice extends far below the length of the icesheet. You did hear the trickling sound of leaking water in the lower level, however, it wasn't threatening the integrity of the collapsed spire.

All of this was possible to be seen thanks to a limitless supply of giant fireflies buzzing about. There were other voices down below, more like growls and wails...not too friendly.

"Master!" You almost slipped, a long trek it would have been. Juno has caught you at the last second "New Elf Notman dying not, New Master healthy."

This unruly platform you and Juno were standing on was her home. There was another bone barrel next to a small mound of black fungus. You assumed Juno sleeps there.

"There! There!" Huh, an actual bed with woolen sheets. You had to blink twice just in case. Juno quickly made one trip back to the surface before shutting that trap door. It was still cold with a bloody chasm mere inches away from your bed and yet this is a far more favorable outcome than freezing to death outside.

You were too exhausted for the simplest of conversations, after watching Juno digging herself next to a rotten animal carcass hidden amongst the fungus, you closed your eyes. The worst is yet to come.....

Stopping here for now. The Real Frozen Civ Quest starts next time.

Hailus , 1st of Uolk (Summer) (-11 Ar)

Damn this cold, your teeth were clattering against each other. You checked your Gamon, it was definitely colder than yesterday. You could hear the cries of the wind above. You had half a mind to embrace the warmth of your obedient slave (who was snoring loudly). The air was literally shimmering above her fungal corpse-mound. Very Interesting.

Since you have a clearer mind compared to yesterday, how are you supposed to treat this enthusiastic darkling?

>Elven Supremacy be damned! You will treat her as a friend, She has basically saved you from a cruel fate yesterday. You will keep this slave-master facade so she can be content. In reality, She is your equal.
>As a kind master, you suppose. While you appreciate everything she had done for you, Juno remains a slave worthy of...humane treatment. You must train her to know her place, punishment is due if she broke your laws.
>Juno is an asset, nothing more and nothing less. Elves were created to lead not to sympathize with lower creature. Your words are orders and commands. Only strict treatment. You will abuse your role to further your good whether this may harm your new slave or not. Still, you will invest in her well-being so she will be able to work for you.
>With a stab to the chest with your crude tool, She had outlived her purpose. You will disregard any potentiality for this dung-eater to be your slave, your safety matters more.

And should you retain this slave-master status quo, how will you manage the current food situation for now?

>She gets her full share, same as you.
>You will split your food with Juno, Half and Half
>You will give her smaller bits of your food
>Mere scraps, a symbolism of your Master Status.
>None, She can find her own food.

The moment you stepped out the bed, Juno quickly sprang out of her death pile running on all fours around you "Master Golg, Awake! Awake!"

Quite a celebration for a mundane act, you sighed under your breath, She was instinctively trying to lick your fingers but your solid expression forced her to retract her long tongue.

"What we do? Poor Juno anything for Master!" She finally stopped moving, clapping her twisted hand instead. There was indeed a lot to be done with varying priorities:

You are parched, what little you had of water was depleted yesterday. A wicked thing like a darkling may get its needs from corpses and what not but you need a pure source of water. You are also in a desperate need for a bath and a new of clothes; You smell like death now.

The ruins of this unknown spire must be expanded upon and thoroughly explored. You will need somewhere you can call home since that little unstable sty of Juno won't do; a quarter of your own, a living room but most importantly a workshop. Of course, there is the issue with the frostblight which will surely claim you if you don't think of a sure method to generate some heat. The safety of the spire also concerns you, there is literally nothing but the cruel weather to stop any potential invader from pillaging what little you have. Juno can do so little when there are more than a couple of well armed foe about. Food and other building resources are another problem to consider. The path to the mainland is long and weary, the wilderness on the other side is as bleak as this lonesome icesheet surrounding the island.

There is something to be said about the spire itself and its original occupant. You know nothing about both. There is no harm in getting to know the history of both if you have some free time in your hands.

Finally, there are other problems brewing in the horizons, ones that you might not be even aware of...

Time
>Proceed Normally (1 day)
>Skip X days/weeks

You can skip several days or weeks as long as there is enough supplies and there is nothing which will demand you attention. This is useful for longer projects which may consume a lengthy span of time. For now, it is recommended to proceed normally to get the gist of things

You
Your actions are divided into three main categories: Tasks, Projects, Miscs. The greater the time skip is, the more time you will be able dedicate your time in several lines of work (You can't construct a giant colossus, clean your room and venture to a dark mine in the same day for an example.).

You can however prioritize your choices into primary, secondary and tertiary. Primary is your top priority and so on. You will always try to finish (or try to) your primary priority in the designated span of time you chose (be it a single day, a couple of days or weeks). You can only choose up to three actions per time skip, if you managed to finish those actions, you can choose another set of priorities in the next prompt.

Tasks are relatively small chores that can be finished in a short time while projects are of larger scale spanning over a longer period of time. Both are heavily related to the way of the Machinus. Miscs are variable chores which doesn't fall under these two categories. Your slaves/underlings/others will have a much streamlined options fit to their status.

Select up to three actions for your selected period of time, prioritize them into 1ry, 2ry and 3ry
Tasks:
>[Tinkering] Make small crude tools out of what you got ? [Requires at least 2 small metal scrap parts, specify, sp. D20] [Time: ??]
>[Tinkering] Make a Mgihnn, a small rat sized brass toy [Requires ??, specify how many, sp. D20] [Time ??]
>[Construction] Make larger tools out of what you got to help you with reclaiming the spire [Requires ?? , Specify, sp.D20] [Time:??]
>Write in [Highly recommended]

Projects
>Address the general lack of light and how to combat it [Time ??]
>Deal with the enormous piles of rubble blocking the first floor [Time ??]
>Address your non existent defenses and how would you install them [Time ??]
>Address your lack of a main door and how would have a proper replacement for it [Time ??]
>[Construction] Construct a Faeirk, A very basic multipurpose automaton. [Requires ??, Specify how many, sp.D20] [Time ??]
>[Thermotheruge] Construct Gaileta's Bl-shgr, a basic blood powered apparatus which will ward off the frostblight...maybe [Requires ??, sp.20] [Time ??]
>Write in

Miscs
>Clean Juno's living place and/or the main entrance [D20, Time ??]
>Try to start reading any of your books [D100. Time ??]
>Scout either the surrounding icesheets or the bleak mainland [D100, Time ??]
>Thoroughly explore the current levels of the spire both above and below [D100, Time ??]
>Consider exploring the dangerous lower level of the spire without a proper way to descend safely downwards [D1000, Time ??]

There wasn't any broom or anything of that sort Juno could use in her cleaning duty. You found yourself explaining this strange complex action to Juno who had no concept of.

"Has your previous master even bothered with Washwash you?" Yes, you had to go to her level during this needless exchange.

"Nottruth! Washwash not for poor Juno. Master Washwash dead for many. Some for poor Juno.. Washwash up Washwash down, Truth?" You nodded, instructing her not to eat anything buried in the snow , She would have to use her hands (not her malignant tongue as instructed) to do this tedious work. At least she was happy about it.

"I will be off for some hours this day, Washwash the place good, Juno. I am counting on you..."

.
.
.
[Great Success-8 Hours]

Armed with your bow, you decided to brave silent ice sheets and the screeching winds in hopes to find any source of food. The first mistake one could make is to assume that this ice (or any snow out there in the wilderness) could be melted down for safe consumption. Wrong. Barring the fact that this Icesheet contains salt from the sea, the water could be still tainted with the frostblight. Drinking it might cause the frostblight to reemerge again killing you from the inside. Proper clean water sources are often found underground where the frostblight hasn't reach it yet. Your kind has a sacred rejuvenating well below the everblossom forest. Needless to say, it was heavy guarded with few actual attempts from feral darklings and other underground creatures to defile it.

After hours of aimless walking around, you have found a sizable hole in the ground with some very hot droppings around it. A bird of sorts? Whatever it is, It is big and strong enough to drill into the frigid ice for some fish-diving. You took a peek inside this hole only to feel something blubbery and warm. You look to your right, Your hand was supposed to rest on the ice near the hole but instead it was resting on something else! something rather invisible!

You kept tapping on this mystery object, It was definitely a fish. A heavy one too, one to be hauled on your shoulder or carried like a delicious newborn. Smart for that predator to target this kind of fish. It certainly didn't have a notable smell. This fact combined with its invisibility makes it a perfect prey (Albeit harder to catch).

Should you steal the creature's first meal or should you wait for its eventual return? there is no telling whether you could outbest it or not. You are also kind of freezing to death as it was apparent with your blackened hair.

>Take the large invisible fish with you, call it a day
>Wait some more for the creature to come back from the frozen depths

If you had Juno with you, then you might have considered staying around. Getting pecked to death is not on your today's short list.

You struggled carrying this stolen catch back to the spire. The obscuring wind tried to make you lose your sense of direction but you will have to be blind to miss the glorious spire.

>You have large invisible fish (1)
>Close Ice sheet exploration could take roughly 3 to +8 hours
.
.
.
.
[Tremendous Success!]

Another three hours has passed before your triumphant return to the spire. Your eyes has widened; the place looks really different without all the snow and clutter. How did she managed to clean everything so quickly? There was a strange insignia on the now-clean floor; that of a serpent coiling around a sword gorging on the hilt.

"MASTER GALA! JUNO GOOD DO ABLE?!"

"I..." Your knees gave out, without Pyrestones to keep you warm, the frostblight was toying with the threads of your fate. Your hands were shivering and your lips were almost sealed together.

Your blurry vision saw Juno carrying you to the relative safety of your bed covering you tightly. The slave was in literal tears trying to warm you up "Notperish Master, Not!"

"So thirsty..." Your throat was all dried up, You cherished this newfound warmth going through your limbs.

"Goodwatergoodwatergood..." Juno kept mumbling to herself using her limited comprehension to find some "AHA! Juno drink master!"

You titled your head to the left helplessly watching Juno taking dangerous leaps downwards to the lower levels. She almost fell to her death thrice as she performed quite the acrobatic feats to reach a waterskin dangling from a piece of rubble. She climbed back as quickly as she could.

You opened your mouth, knowing that there was no chance it could have act-

Oh but it did! Sweet, sweet water. You stopped the darkling from pouring it all over you. You will save the rest for later.

"Thank you, Juno..." Once again she had saved your life. Your gratitude was more than enough for her.

"OH JOY! Elf notman Master happy! Here, Poor Juno explore this too while washwash!" The darkling grabbed a pouch of coins from under the bed. After some precise counting, your new wealth was quite something.

>You have 846 Gold
>You current water supplies is enough for 1-2 days at best.

A hooked tool could help you immensely to dislodge the cancerous rubble plaguing the spire. These should do...

>making a crowbar will consume 1 medium iron scrap and 1 small iron scrap. roll special d20 (average of first 3 rolls)

It seems that Juno has finished your task, what do you want her to do?

[Slight failure]

It could have gone better you got yourself a prybar ,a weak and brittle one which is liable to break after a couple of uses.

>You have made a crude crowbar
>You construction skill is increasing...

You sat down on the floor with Juno discussing the gaping entrance and how to seal it. Of course, this is a temporary solution to this glaring problem.

" Icy close with big sheety knock knock?"

"We don't have a do..." Well, you do actually; that chained door is not big enough to block the hole entrance but it does seem to be the most suitable option. There is also the rubble which can also be used in combination.

The question is: how are you supposed to keep all of these parts together? You don't have any powerful source of heat to melt them together with the hinges...what can you use in your disposal right now? Special tree sap was quite popular in your home. Too bad your don't have any of it.

>Progress on Making a temporary door has started it is currently 0/150

Either ways, you will have Juno to pry either the chains then the door OR some of that rubble. Which one would you want her to go for?

>The chains and then the door, you also want to see what is inside.
>The rubble, a step closer to clear the staircase

In the meantime, you will start going through one of your books: The Intricacies of Khzifltas, you have no idea of its content, You bought it with other dwarven curiosities. Luckily for you, this one is written by a human named Malaaw Hukan. You don't know a lick of dwarven. You should for your future studies... The roaming fireflies down below do provide enough light for you to read without squinting your eyes.

[Great Success]

In the middle of your bed, You started to read the book, The introduction was quite a bore talking about the dwarves and their rise to power. You already knew that but you couldn't bring yourself to skip pages.

The Book focused on Khzifltas, a giant industrial city in the heart of a dwarven kingdom called Mahozl. Khzifltas' main goal was to automate various mining operations as redistributing precious ores and metal to other refining stations. A seemingly work of fiction to you. The human speaks of the Ovhme or the 'One Finger' who was the sole living dwarf in the whole city. It is not clear whether this was a great honor or a great punishment to lock the Ovhme inside 'the Chamber of eyes' to oversee the ongoing operations. It has been hinted by the author that this could be purely ceremonial for a single dwarf to be there and the city didn't actually need one.

The Ovhme gets his name by having the Tjliisk or the 'All-key' which was a foraged finger...a master key to control the whole city with all of its facilities. The author said that she had found the Ovhme's corpses without the Tjliisk stating that it was sadly stolen along with the treasures of Khzifltas. However, the the thieves have left most of the city's true treasure untampered: The automatons and the machinations behind them.

Meanwhile, The already tired Juno did her best to clear the rubble with the new tool which ultimately broke down in her rather strong arms. The crooked part went flying according to her. You couldn't blame her, It was bound to break. The good news is that the rubble did yield some useful bits for you.

Quest has been good so far. I think the setting is cool and so far it feels pretty brutal. Makes the small victories sweeter. Anyway,

>Give her extra food for her hard work. It is time to sleep
We're doing well on food so far. That giant fish should be good for a few days at least.

Also, assuming the day's over and we have to prioritize for tomorrow, I suggest the following:

Primary Action:
Search for a good water source (ask Juno for info)

Secondary Action:
Improve our construction skill by making a second crowbar for Juno

Tertiary Action:

Juno:
Help us forage, else continue the clearing effort

Also, this isn't really an action, but let's make sure to keep the fish safe by burying it in some snow. Not worried about it spoiling (the world is our freezer.) Still, don't want a creature to try and take it from us.

>>
>>3693467
as a general rule, you will have to select an action first (whatever it maybe) then you will get a brief description of what it entails + its requirements if it has any.
Finishing whatever this action was will give you a rough estimation of how long does it take most of the time.

i.e choose an action first to know what it is all about.

Mailus, 2d og Uolk (Summer) (-9 Ar)

By all accounts, you were still thirsty. You wanted to drink all of your want in one go. If only...

Going outside like that was almost suicidal yesterday, you must have some sort of a portable heat source with you for such ventures. On the bright side, you hair is retaining its emerald youth. Those born under the fold of the arcanus would naturally have various flower amongst their hair, they will be all gloating about how they are one with Nature and Magic.

You...you weren't born with such innate abilities . Arcanus can be indeed taught but it is for the most part either or. Few has mastered both the Machinus and the Arcanus.

"Master Gaa, Look! Look! Flappy funny! Teehe!" Juno was overly excited about the fish you caught(stole) yesterday. The unseen cloak has been remove revealing a large bony fish with a myriad of colour even so shifting and stirring. Its head was square shaped and bulky with a serious set of teeth while its long fins were transparent.

"Bad! Bad! Stop!" The foolish girl was already drooling for the fish "It must be cooked first!"

"Eeeh?" Juno scratched her head, great...another simple concept to explain. Well, Cooking is an understatement; you still don't have anything to light up a fire. By the by, how are you going to handle this fish? It is freezing so there is no chance of this fish to rot away

>Leave it as it is

Fish this, Fish that. You don't really know what it is called. Do you intend to do something about it?

At least nothing goes bad in this cold, unless it has rust and then I'd prefer it to be outside and not inside our body, maybe we will get something to properly cook it before we run out of rations. Also Juno deserves some tasty organs.

You were no butcher but you handled yourself pretty well with your carving tool. Removing the colourful fishscales has a bit of a hassle though. They were pretty enough so you decided to keep them. You left the fish's gut for your slave who slurped it in pure glee.

>You have colorful fishscales (50)
>You have food supplies (6)

As for dealing with the rest of the rubble, you can fashion another crowbar, shovel or any large tool for Juno to use (or yourself for that matter). If you are feeling cruel , you can order her to work with her mutated hands...She can't say no to you.

An urgent question rang in your mind, how are you supposed to keep the bits of your future metal door together?

[Slight Failure]

An exact replica of the previous crowbar except with a thicker handle. Couple of fair uses and it will join its broken brother.

>Your construction skill is increasing....
>You have made a crude crowbar

You called your vacuous slave who was playing with the rather sticky sludge "Master?"

"Water, you think you can find some?" You assumed she has been here for a while. So maybe she can find you some.

"Clearjuice? Eh...Ah...Oooo, downdown?"

She wasn't wrong, almost all of the drinkable water is found underground "I down, truth?"

"Don't stray far down there. Master wants you here if you see badbad." You found yourself a bit worried about her safety. She gave you a horrid smile and a nod before heading to the unknown depth below. You had a feeling that she won't come back unless the waterskin is filled to the brim.

Your thoughts has drifted towards the Technomancer and his apparatus. The Bl-shgr is fueled by blood, fresh warm blood from the throat. You close your eyes recalling the proper requirement for such apparatus:

-20 Higz of throatblood (roughly 2 human/humanoid adults )
-1 large container of any non-arcanus metal
-10 small iron scraps
-5 copper wire or its equivalent
-5 small gear parts
-3 medium gear parts
-1 Katayl Crystal or any Katalotic Crystal Catalyst

and the proper tools to clobber them together like hammers and what not.

Naturally, you have none of these. You wanted to scream out of frustration. Why does everything bad happen to you? You kicked the neatly organized pile of scraps all over the place curses the air, the walls, everything watching you and mocking you behind your back. You were at the verge of tears when you calmed yourself down.

How about a magical skewer that pierce this accursed icesheet?! wouldn't that be handy? To even consider this prospect, you will need an immense source of power for your hypothetical drill. A steam core is the first thing to come to mind whether it was installed in some automaton or on a device of its own.

You know nothing about Steamworks, even if you did, you will need a schematic to follow it. You can't create complex things like so out of your mind only. You are simply not knowledgeable enough.

All these cloudy thoughts have made you think about the Faeirk. A very basic yet highly flexible and modifiable automaton which relies on mechanical wind up instead of any legit power source. To build one you will need:

-6 copper wire or its equivalent
-1 delicate gear parts
-5 small gear parts
-2 medium gear parts
-5 small Iron scraps
-3 medium iron scraps
-1 large iron sheet or 2 large iron scraps

The wind up will make the Faeirk repeat the same action over and over until it needs to be manually recharged. From then, it is up to you to modify or even upgrade it as you like. It is commonly used for mundane and repetitive work.

>Choose another 2ry and 3ry action
>>
>>3695929
2ry
>go scavenging for parts
3ry
>clear up the blockage and use it to fix up the door more.
>>
>>3695929
damn we almost have enough material for the faeirk, assuming we could use gold for wiring instead of copper, but maybe we should try to open that chained door now? itd give us wood and some chains and a new place to loot

2ry/3ry try to tear down the chained wooden door
>>
Query on how the Frostblight and Blue Rust work. What are they exactly? What I can best tell is that that the Frostblight is like a malevolent magical force, that manifests itself as the coldness, infects water it touches à la ice-nine and seemingly has a mind of its own. But the BR is a mystery - does it attack and eat metal, or does it just corrupt it to render it useless and dangerous? If it eats metal, I can think of a use for that.
>>
>>3695946
Supporting this
>>
>>3696014
blue rust attacks and eats anything it comes into direct physical contact with, and thats all we know really
>>
>>3699617
>>3696014
anything/anyone to just be 100% clear
>>
>>3699617
Hm. So if we can't get the chain open, it might be feasible to use a couple of long sticks to pick up one of the Rust-infected pieces of metal and use it to infect and destroy the door chain.

Given how hazardous this might be to our health, this is more of a musing and mental note rather than a serious proposal. Though the fact that the entire world is not made of BR means there must be some very common things it won't eat and act as a barrier.
>>
>>3699684
I think the frostblight is the very common thing preventing blue rust from taking over, i think BR might have been an attempt to fight the frost blight? i think you'd have to check thread 1 i think
>>
>>3699705
It was (I'll get round to checking the original quest archives someday). The former is a quite disturbing point actually, because if the Frostblight is all that is keeping the Blue Rust in check and we solve the FB, we'd all get Rusted. I'd take FB any day of the week over BR.

QM, you better not be taking notes.
>>
>>3699724
So maybe we should cure BR before the FB?
>>
>>3699733
I have a feeling there is going to be a common cause for both we'll have to deal with. It's all a long, long way off though. We need to focus on whatever can keep us alive. I think if we can cure frostblight from stuff it'll help us out more. It would allow us to safely drink desalinated ice and keep us safe during the "winter".
>>
>>3695929
Crap, I think we've kinda forgotten to actually propose actions. for 2ry we try to get the door open, and 3ry we have another go at the door if it's not open already, or keep whacking at the debris if it isn't.
>>
>>3696014
there are many postulations and hypotheses about the Frostblight and its nature. What is generally known that it had plunged the world into a frozen hellscape wiping out many races in its wake.

As for the Blue Rust (which was written in the OP), it is simply the backfiring of an attempt to cure the world from the frostblight done by the Argeans. A race of constructs. It latches itself on metal surfaces waiting for any physical contact. It is deadly to all races but most lethal to the Argeans themselves.

It corrupts metal surfaces to answer your question for the most part. The corrosion effect varies from one metal to another.

>>3699684
the chained door is not afflicted by the blue rust. It is a metal door not a wooden one.

>>3695946
>>3699316
Going for this since this is the most voted one.
>>
>>3695946
>>3699316
Well, Being the queen of scraps is nice and all but you truly need better parts for your future projects. If you are feeling a tad suicidal, you could go for another round in the open wastes without a heat source whether you want to scavenge in the icesheet or back at frozen shore.

Alternatively, you could go to the underground levels of the spire. Juno did it, surely you are as agile as her. You will have to jump numerous leaps of faith around the unstable and collapsed platforms ignoring the fact that a single mistake means a lot of broken bones and an agonizing death.

[Tremendous Success!]

You took a deep breath before gaining some momentum for the jump only to land just in the right spot.Your didn't break any of your bones. Good. One sigh of relief later, You stood proudly on the first underground level.

The place was an utter mess, a single large platform surrounded by multiple smaller ones leading to lower levels below.

The first thing you laid your eyes on was desiccated corpse of an orc, his green flesh had hints of bright blue...a clear sign of the Blue Rust slowly working on his body. It would explain the waterskin from earlier. You couldn't blame Juno for not spotting his corpse; It was pure hidden under a broken pillar.

What happened? He must have fell down here breaking his legs and got unlucky with a crumbling pillar? The only thing salvageable from this mess was his Battleaxe.

>You have found Orcish Battleaxe

It was ridiculously heavy fit for green slabs of meat not petit figures such as yourself. Maybe Juno can have it? It would make her a force to be reckoned with.

You would assume that most of this floor's contents are already in the darker belly of the spire since there wasn't much to scavenge except large rocks and snow which you got plenty of those everywhere.

Moments later, You did find an wooden drawer which had two pieces of flint in it, two whole wooden chairs and a rug! You happily retracted your earlier statement. This wasn't much but it sure bolstered you morale; a sense of civility is oh so needed in this den-like place.

>You have found some furniture
>You have found some flint.

The ground suddenly went shaking for mere moments. The frozen walls were flicking off their snow, three or so platforms were swallowed by the dark abyss below. You almost fell to your death if it wasn't for that pillar you clang to.

" Klakeet disrp Tatanleo..."

"FOGM! Dostrra Neinm, Foem rean Anstram goha. Gola, Jakooc Spire. Tedao!"

"KOMM: SPIRE TEDAO. FOKKREN...FOKKREN."

The winds above has carried the echoes of three individuals who were definitely inside the spire. The first two had squeamish and grating tone to their voices like a child after her 50th birthday while the third one was quite the opposite; monotonous, booming and twisted in a way. You had nothing on you but the unruly axe and your furniture.

If only Juno was here, she is still down there in her search for water.

From their tone, my best guess is what they are saying essentially comes to "I don't like this place" rather than malicious intent. If they do prove to be hostile, they can't get to us without making the same jump.

Try to be friendly about it, and if they prove to be non-hostile then do warn them about Juno in case she shows up.

That could work. We also have a scary axe to intimidate them off if they're hostile.
>>
>>3702171
Also note the wording of the title - Frozen *Civ* Quest. I can't find the original on either section of suptg, but that suggests we aren't supposed to be surviving on our own eventually.
>>
>>3702225
im looking forward to how sweet the civ will be compared to this suffering
honestly im expecting the civ to be like this but we're just commanding a bunch of hapless people instead of going ourselves
>>
>>3702244
The fact that rolls are done in one go and not best out of three or averaged as seems to be common and the fact that the world wants you dead means this is going to be brutal.

Oh, and we're autosaging.
>>
>>3702225
We already have a bit of that with Juno. Hopefully we can do what elves do and have a legion of slaves to do our bidding for us. Still, we have to focus on surviving on our own for now.

Also, the thread is archived on the archived moe site, but I wouldn't bother checking it out. OP said he revamped a lot of stuff and the thread didn't really go anywhere. Also, the site is old E.D. levels of ads and popups.

"Somebody out there?" Words flown out of your mouth. Was it your undoing? Many thoughts ran through your mind at the same time.

There was no response, you tried again but in elvish. You heard a childish grunt before a menacing mechanical construct dropped down from the trap door. it had no hissing gear with steam blowing from its back like what you have imagined, instead, it had a slick and smooth design. Everything was new, smooth and symmetrical.... from the multi-layered head with its two crimson orbs to its slender limbs which quickly has split into multiple metallic tendrils, each one had a sharp blade at its end. It now resembled a very nimble spider, a dangerous one that can slice you to bit in a blink of an eye.

Such display has removed any possible intimidation from your side. You still hold your new heavy axe. It didn't attack you though.

" FOU! NASRM NORVA: LOSTHEIN. USN : TANDVM." It shouted , still on full alert. From under giant shadow, two small individuals approached the edge to have a better look at you. The dyad were hilariously short, shorter-than-your-knees short. You would laugh at their pathetic figure if it wasn't a life or death situation right now. You couldn't see their tiny faces, a bulky mask with a twisted beak was hiding it.

The dyad wore a similar outfit, a puffy suit which seemed to contract and expand continuously. It had strange metal parts on the back, an apparatus of sorts. The construct had the same too. What are they?

You stood silent as they kept arguing with each other with the one on the right occasionally giving you a condescending stare. After a couple of minutes, they have seemed to reach an agreement of sorts before addressing you.

"Greetings, Womanly Elf, Have you met one of our specimen before?" He would paused after every single word.

"No?" You lowered the heavy axe as it was taking its toll on your arms.

"Kodhm Herrn, Dakem!" screeched the other one in pure anger.

"Sadness, My womanly Kin wished to kill you to control this...Spire. We are Neosm...we scavenge from surface dwellers for the greater good of our birthhome. My nomenclature is Conm, Next of kin is Hobn. "

"I...am Gaeleath Yesthyra, a pleasure." It wasn't, you were scared to your bones. Any second and you could loose your head.

"Yes, Hospitality appreciated. Aware of Kindness. Surface dwellers hostile to us often. This spire hold very great treasures for survival of Birthhome. Your presence is a block to our plans." said Conm in his childish voice "We must possession it unless law Gannenm say no. Right to scrape and scavenge. Very sacred to us Neosm. How time have you here? While inside spire? How wealth accumulating inside you? Path of Machin or Arcain? Most valuable: Why you scrap spire, not us? "

old thread is basically irrelevant
>>
>>3702393
"Ha! The old laws lost any relevance a looooong time ago, and as the humans used to say, possession is nine tenths of the law, and I was here first. It's also not every day an elf gets out-snobbed. But still, [glance at mechaspider] not like I can really stop you and if it's sacred artifacts you're looking for then go right ahead, they're of no use to me. [shrug and sigh] It's your funeral if you go down there though, the old structure is highly unstable and it's a very long way down. And for the love of Ishdar, don't kill Juno, the darkling doing a task for me down there. Yes, I know what you're thinking, if she gets antsy then tell her I said you can be here."
>>
>>3702562
i agree with the sentiment ut i think the little dude is saying that the act of scavenging is sacred not that they want to scavenge for their holy doodad
but really i think we find ourselves trade partners!

You can hear him chuckle from under his mask, it sounds like a croaking frog on fire " Very confidence. Too danger to little Law Gannenm. Father and Upspring of Birthhome Quick die for you if Sister kin was alone...I close to law. Law demands fairness."

Silence settled in, Whatever this law was, it seems to prevent them from outright killing you for the rights to scavenge this place. This time, the woman did the talking spreading out her tiny hands "Days of five! Special thing for us or we DEAD you and claim spire."

"Acceptable, we return in fifths day. You scavenge single special tribute for Birthhome to claim spire." He added gently.

"Special?" you asked, a bit confused.

"We Neosm know special when we visualize it. Spire hoard plenty of special. Exert for right to own spire. Action so and Become friend with Neosm."

>Sounds fair enough. Accept their demands
>Refuse, you are not going to 'pay' them anything.
>Somehow convince them to give you a little bit more time. Five days are not simply enough to find something of worth. This might horribly backfire... [D100]

Rolled 69 (1d100)

>Sounds fair enough. Accept their demands
We piss them off, and we get cut to ribbons. We'll figure something out.

Rolling to see whether we would have survived trying to persuade them for more time, just out of interest.

Also we should consider starting a new thread soon, we're going to struggle to acquire and keep players while languishing on page 5.

This. I don't want to be deadened. I'm thinking we may be able to make some jury rigged ropes, pitons, or other things to let us descend further down the spire. The flint should keep us warm with fires and we still have food, so we can focus on hauling ass and scavenging whatever these nut job want.
>>
Stopping here for now.
>>
>>3702855
I'm thinking we might be able to make a trip to the mainland next time to look for some plants and materials to make into a rope, because we haven't found any so far - we could recycle the rug in a pinch, but I'd rather not. I suggested making some climbing kit earlier.

finally, it kept thinking it was spam. moving on.

title should be : Frozen Civ Quest 2 [Redux]

OP:

In a world plunged into frozen chaos, You ,Gaeleath Yesthyra, will find a cure for the Frostblight no matter what it takes. After being exiled from your elven home, you took shelter in an abandoned spire on a lone isle amidst a frozen see only to be saved from certain death by a putrid darkling who revered you as her master. After a close encounter with two relatively dangerous scavengers, you have agreed to scavenge something of worth for them and their 'Birthhome' to retain your right to scavenge the spire...you only have five days.
