BLACK LAGOON QUEST #1

New York City, 1996.

You are Mikhail Fedorov, and you've been nestled against the criminal underbelly of this city for just over a year now. In that time plenty of money, drugs, guns, and lives have been taken by your hands under the employment of the Salieri crime family controlling the area. You aren't alone, though, as your older brother Sergei assists in most of the work... But his nature often makes them more difficult.

Despite this, you've earned the reputation of being a reliable gun and earner, which is why a important job was given to your employer; Richie Sacrimoni, a Capo for the Salieris. You, your brother, Richie and an unnamed hired gun are entrusted with a bank heist in the east side. Who owns the bank? Is the mob really in dire need of money or is it a blow to a rival's operation? It's for Richie to know and you to probably never find out. You and your brother just get the money and get out, then you get paid. That's how it should be.

Before all this, before this city... Was a war. One you ran away from, and one you try to forget.

You don't know it yet, but as you step into your brother's car you're already starting to sink in the bloody waters of Roanapur.

Rules of Engagement:
-You will have 10-15 minutes to commit to an action. Once a decision is made, a 1D100 will be rolled to determine whether or not it's successful, and the highest value of the first three rolls will seal your fate. Which leads into the next rule...
-Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Rolling a Nat 1 could result in a gun jamming, a limb lost, or even a window opening in your skull. However, God may show you some mercy and give you a Nat 100. With the lord's blessing, blood shed will surely follow.
-These rules could change throughout the quest. You may or may not like that, but shit happens.
>>
“So after he freaks the fuck out in the court, his lawyer goes to tell him he got the insanity plea in his holding cell or some shit, and you won't believe what fucking happens next...”

You take a slow drag of your nearly spent cigarette, exhaling as you offer an ounce of your attention.

“What?” You begrudgingly press him on, keeping your eyes focused on the road ahead of you while Sergei blathers about his movies.

“The retard and the psycho killer? They were never a split personality! It was just the sick fuck pretending to have downs so he could fucking play his lawyer like a sucker. I mean, this motherfucker stuck his dick in the court system and his defense attorney, wiggled it around and walked away free! Fucking crazy movie, Mishka!”

“Sounds... Colorful.” You respond, flicking the butt of your smoke out the passenger window and pulling back the sleeve of your blazer to reveal your watch.

“5 minutes.” You inform your brother, but even under the cover of his dark sunglasses you can see him roll his eyes.

“Fuck, man. The job hasn't even started and you've already got a stick up your ass.”

“Fuck you.” You simply respond as you look in the rear view mirror on your side. The boss and the other guy on this job are staying close behind, and you can tell from their driving that they're getting anxious back there.

“... You think it's OCD?” Sergei breaks the brief moment of silence, glancing towards you with his sudden question while trying to drive.

“I don't have OCD, asshole.” You respond curtly, but he's quick to shake his head and swish the trashy ponytail hanging behind his neck.

“No no no, not you. Richie. We turned in our gear last night and this fucker was still checking it for bugs or whatever until we arrived earlier... It's weird, right?”

A: “That 'fucker' is your boss. This is the last time you forget that during this score, understand?”

B: “It's called being professional.”

C: “It's paranoia. He knows it, which is why he's back there waiting to peel off in case we lead him into a police sting.”

D: “Whatever it is, it needs to be in check for when shit hits the fan. Can't have him lose his cool on this one.”

You keep your eyes locked on the car behind you, as if you were staring into the eyes of the driver through its tinted glass.

“Whatever it is, it needs to be in check for when shit hits the fan. Can't have him lose his cool on this one.”

“Uh huh.” Sergei barely acknowledges.

“He's going to find something to bitch at anyway. He spent ten minutes going off about the fucking gun I brought, that fucking wop piece of shit.”

“... Wop?” You ask, giving your brother a quizzical look.

“It's like nigger, but for Italians.” He explains, and your face immediately sours.

“Then don't say it again. That's the kind of shit that will set him off.”

You shake your head in disbelief. English may be easy for you now, but some phrases still escape you. Unfortunately Sergei is the type of shithead who learns obscenities of another tongue before anything else.

“We're here.” Sergei notes, stopping the car.

The East National Bank is in a busy area. Sat on the right side of the street, there's a plaza with plenty of office drones and civilians bustling through it. Already you're starting to dislike how this is going.

You check your watch.

“Just over 2 minutes. Get your weapon under your blazer before you step out.” You tell your brother.

His face scrunches up, looking over his shoulder at the weapon he left on the backseat.

“I don't know if that'll work.” He remarks.

The Dragunov rifle resting on the leather was definitely too big to conceal well, but that's Sergei's fault for getting a gun he's familiar with instead of one with a shorter barrel.

“Just do what you can and try to hang back. Maybe no one will notice the third leg you've grown.” You sarcastically advise as you look down to load the weapon you brought.

Richie had introduced you to a cop who had access to a confiscated weapons locker at a nearby station. That's how you were able to get your hands on the AK74u now nestled under the suit's jacket.

Stepping out of the car with your brother eventually stumbling out after you, the two men following you here are quick to meet up with you as you casually head towards the bank's glass doors.

One was Richie Salieri, a slightly overweight and olive skinned capo. As he's hustling towards your side, he's followed by a black guy who you only know as “D” for this job. He seems well composed in contrast to your boss' strained look.

“You shits know what your doin'?” He asks you both, his head darting around nervously as he looks at all the people gathered in the plaza.

A: “Yes, I watch the hostages. You should calm down.”

B: “Take care of security and find the keys to the vault. You got the bags?”

C: “Incapacitate the guard closest to the entrance and keep watch. There's only supposed to be 2, right?"

You nod, keeping your eyes forward.

“Take care of security and find the keys to the vault. You got the bags?”

Richie is quick to hand you a black leather bag containing several folded gym bags. You'll admit, it's pretty clever.

“D, you're with M on security detail. I'll watch the kids and S... S just watch for anything weird.” Richie orders.

“... Like what? What would be weird?” Sergei asks, warranting a barrage of hushed insults from the boss.

“Just do what I say motherfucker! I will fucking brain you if you fuck this up for us!”

Sergei goes quiet, and it's for the best as the four of you reach the glass doors leading you inside.

“Remember, masks on when I give the signal.” Richie reminds you one last time before you all step in.

There's a small hallway before you reach the main lobby, and as expected the place is packed.

There's several rows of lines leading to different tellers and desks, and behind those desks is just a wall of windows displaying the rest of New York the patrons.

The four of you split off, Richie first taking his position towards the center and acting as if he's about to get in line.

Poor Sergei is doing his best to hide the long barrel of his rifle, just barely making due as he leans against one of the few columns raised between sections of the bank.

D makes his way towards a guard at the right side of the lobby, his target busy scribbling something on a notepad.

Your mark is actually talking with another person, indistinguishable between an employee or something else in his gray business suit.

They're both stood next to a rack of pamphlets resting against the wall opposite of D. Two guards, spread out and distracted. Richie's plan was going smooth so far.

You casually make your way closer to the guard, noting that his arms are folded across his chest and nowhere near his service weapon.

Looking at Richie, you see him getting his mask ready as he audibly whistles, giving the signal.

You swiftly put your balaclava on and advance on the guard, stomping into the side of closest knee!

He yelps in surprise and pain as his right leg is busted, buckling down and trying to frantically swing his arms to keep balance and get to his holster.

That's not happening though, as you're quick pull back your right arm and slam a brutal palm strike to his adam's apple, causing him to roughly choke and reach for his neck as he falls onto his back.

You take his holstered handgun, ejecting the magazine and chambered round before tossing them both aside.

The guy he was talking to already has a stain on his crotch, chattering his teeth as tears start to fall from his eyes as he stumbles backwards onto his ass.

Good, he won't be an issue.

D has already taken the butt of his gun to the back of the guard's skull, leaving him to bleed from the head wound as he's disarmed.

Sergei rushes from behind the column and aims his rifle at everyone he can, yelling at them to get down.

There's a rush of panicked cries as people scatter to the floor, you yourself draw your AK74u and shove several dumbstruck hostages to the floor.

“ATTENTION EVERYONE! SORRY TO CUT IN LINE BUT THE FOUR OF US NEED TO MAKE AN EXTREMELY LARGE WITHDRAWAL TODAY!” Richie yells as the hostages start to huddle against walls and desks.

“WE'RE HERE FOR THE BANK'S MONEY, NOT YOURS! SO UNLESS YOU'RE SUFFERING FROM SEVERE DEPRESSION, I WOULD SUGGEST NONE OF YOU TRY AND BE A HERO TODAY! M, See that cocksucker hiding under his desk? He's gonna help you empty your account.”

You look over to where Richie is pointing, and you can see an old man looking scared and confused as he cowers within the back row of desks behind the tellers.

You jog over that way, pointing the barrel at hostages as you pass by them.

“Down! Down! Keep your head down! Don't look at me!” You bark as you make your way past the front desks to the old man.

Reaching under his walnut cover, you grab the geezer by his collar and easy force him off the floor and onto his feet.

Shit, he looks like he's 70. You could grind this guy into paste if you're not careful.

“Keys to the vault, now.” You sternly order, keeping your barrel pointed away.

His balding, liverspotted head is sweating profusely as he stammers out a resonse.

“W-What?”

A: “Do not make me hurt you. Give me the keys.”

B: Jog his memory, smack him across the face.

C: Point your gun in his face and start counting.

You reel your left and back and smack him across the face, sending him crashing to the floor and causing the other hostages to cry out in response to your assault.

“I'm not asking again.” You tell him as he mewls and bleeds from his nose.

A shaky hand points up to a drawer on the left side of his desk, and you're quick to tug it open and dig around until you see a ring of two keys.

You hurry back to R, who motions with his head to hallway on his right.

“D, go with him and help him carry out the cash.” Richie orders, still keeping his eyes on the crying innocents cowering beneath him.

“Let's get paid.” D comments as he follows you down the hallway and around a corner till your reach a steel door on the right side of the hall.

You insert the key into the circular hole and unlock it, pulling the heavy armored door aside and hurrying in past personal deposit boxes and through another door in the very back.

Opening it up reveals a two carts, carrying 4 plastic covered stacks of money each. For anyone else it might not seem like much, but you know that's several million dollars you're looking at.

Getting straight to work, you start fishing out the gym bags you were given and start unfolding them. To the best of your ability, you try to close the bags over the stacks and seal them up to save time.

With every bag you complete, you slide it on the ground out to D until you've finally got all 4 filled.

As you're hurrying out, there's a deafening gunshot that rings out through the building and it stops you and D dead in your tracks.

“What the fuck?!” He asks aloud, and you both carry two bags each into the lobby as fast as you can.

“WHICH ONE OF YOU FUCKING IDIOTS SHOT THEIR GUN?!” Richie immediately starts screaming at you both as you slide a load of cash over to him.

“It wasn't you?” D asks while you survey the frightened hostages. No one's shot, so that means.

“Motherfucker... MOTHERFUCKER! WHERE'S S?!” Richie's face turns red as he demands the answer, completely losing his composure.

“Over here.”

You all look over to seem him emerge from the restrooms close to the entrance, and crawling on their stomach is a third security guard bleeding from their abdomen.

“I found something weird, boss.” Sergei remarks, giving the guard a swift kick in his ass and making him roll over on his back in pain.
Richie says nothing, he just starts to breathe frantically as he stares down at the extra guard.

A: “You said there was only supposed to be two!”

B: “Calm down. We got the money, so let's get out of here!”

C: “S... What was he doing when you found him?”

“Hey!” You call out to your boss, grabbing his shoulder and trying to shake some sense into him.

“Calm down. We got the money, so let's get out of here!”

“Grrghh... That's not happening you cocksuckers...!!”

You look down at the guard trying to push himself off the ground, barely speaking through the pain as he coughs up blood.

“I radioed the police...” He informs you, tapping on the speaker clipped to his chest.

“They'll be he-”

There's a deafening rattle of gunfire as Richie aims his MP5K at the injured guards face, sending everyone else into a panic except you and the rest of the team.

There's nothing but red mush and bone fragments left of his head, prompting Sergei to look down and shrug.

“Yeah I was about to tell you he did that, but he kind of ruined the whole thing.”

Suddenly everyone's heads perk to the sound of sirens. Lots of them, and they're getting closer.

“Fuck this shit, man! I'm getting' out of here!” D shouts at all of you, rushing outside with his share of the cash.

Richie hesitates for a second, before choking something out through clenched teeth and following after.

“Goddammit!” You curse, shoving a bag towards Sergei.

“Come on, I need you to cover me!”

Sergei chuckles, following you towards the exit.

“Mishka, you read my mind!”

It's obvious where this is going to go. Any other heist crew would rush to their car, try to drive off as fast as they could only to get caught in a police roadblock or shot up on sight.

You and Sergei are better than that, despite appearances.

The plaza is already becoming barren as people run from where gunshots had rung out near them, and as expected, Richie and D were frantically getting their cash in the backseat as three squad cars pulled up on the opposite side of the street.

You and Sergei take cover behind some marble structures encasing trees, slinking down behind the waist-high cover.
“They're bait, right?” Your brother asks as he adjusts the scope of his SVD, peeking over the cover occasionally.

A: “Yeah, we're leaving them and this city. The whole thing's a fuck up, and there'll be a manhunt for us.”

B: “No. Help me suppress the cops while they make a getaway. If we're split, it'll be harder for the cops to chase us all down.”

You think for a moment, cursing under your breath before pulling the balaclava off your head.

[“Fuck it!”] You curse.

“Yeah, we're leaving them and this city. The whole thing's a fuck up, and there'll be a manhunt for us.”

Sergei follows suit, yanking the mask off his head and revealing his weasely smile and rat-like ponytail.

“Alright, but I want to make an adjustment to your plan...”

“What're you-” You start to ask, but Sergei shows you before you can get the rest of the sentence out.

He expertly raises the gun over the cover, aims, and fires 8 shots.

Back home, Sergei was notorious for being so annoying that no one would be his spotter. You couldn't blame them, seeing how your brother almost never shuts the fuck up.

However, never having a spotter meant he had to compensate somehow.

There were six cops taking cover behind their doors with handguns trained on Richie and D, but in four seconds there were eight dead bodies. Richie had gotten a round through his throat, while D and the officers received fatal wounds to their heads and chests.

[“HA! GOTCHA BITCH!”] Sergei cheers, but you pull him out of the moment with a smack to the back of the head!

“What the fuck is wrong with you?! I said to leave them!” You scold him as he gives you a look of disdain while holds the area of his head you struck.

“Yeah, but fucking Richie was always an asshole to me! No way I was gonna let some pigs get the kill!” He responds.

You just give him the stink eye in return.

“Then why did you shoot the black guy, D?” You ask.

“... Symmetry.” He answers, arching an eyebrow.

“Are you implying that I-”

He's cut off by the sound of more sirens reaching your location and the tires of squad cars screeching against the road as they stop.

“Fuck, nevermind that now!” You shout as you quickly pull your gun up next, aim at the arriving cars, and start dumping your magazine.

(To be resumed tomorrow.)

Alright, that's enough for tonight. I'll try to start around the same time tomorrow and make this Friday-Saturday thing.

Tomorrow we'll probably get to the meat of the quest (which is actually reaching Roanapur, spoiler I know.)

Until then, feel free to post some questions or call me a faggot. I may answer them when and if the time. No promises from me never ever ever.

Question, how close are we gonna get to the original cast? I'm gonna guess that "D" wasn't actually Dutch.

The ear splitting cracks of your assault rifle deafen the emerging cops orders for you to drop your weapon, and they're forced to take cover from the overwhelming fire.

“MISHKA!” You barely hear your brother shouting over the gunfire.

“WHERE THE HELL ARE WE MOVING TO?!”

“I HAVEN'T THOUGHT THAT FAR AHEAD YET!” You respond, ejecting the empty mag and reloading while you keep your sights on the cluster of bullet ridden cars wailing ahead of you.

A: “We're gonna take one of their cars! We have to be fast and waste all of them before any more show up!”

You turn your head and look towards the bank, loading the next magazine as you do so.

“Back around the bank! We take to the streets until we can find a manhole or something!”

“What?! Fuck you! I'm not wading through shit in this suit!” Sergei angrily rejects, but he's persuaded once a few of the cops' returning fire hits the cover just behind his head.

“GO!” You shout, firing back at the peeking officers with an intent to kill for firing on your brother.

The police here are obviously unprepared for firepower like this, as your shots manage to penetrate the car doors and rip through two officers attempting to use them as cover.

You can see them yelling in horror at their partners getting killed in front of them, but you use that time to break off from the engagement and run off with your brother.

“HAH!” Your brother suddenly laughs between exerted breaths as you both sprint around the left side of the bank.

“THIS-THIS ACTUALLY REMINDS ME OF ANOTHER MOVIE I SAW WHERE-”

“SHUT THE FUCK UP!” You snarl at him, making your way through an alley made by a neighboring business.

Sergei looks hurt for a moment, but quickly smiles as he points at the ground.

“LOOK! WE'RE GETTING LUCKY, MAN!”

You're both stopped in your sprint by just the thing you were looking for; a circular plate covering a way into the sewers.

“... Wait, I just realized I'm probably going to run into the turds of that cop Richie killed. Motherfucker...”

“Stop whining and help me with this.” You order him, throwing the bag off your back for a moment and lifting off the cover with the help of Sergei.

“So Mishka, you wanna make this a road trip? Where do you want to visit next in this beautiful land of the free?” He sarcastically asks, a wry smile spreading across his face.

“We're leaving America.” You bluntly correct him, and his smile disappears.

“W-What?! But I like it here! We can just go to uh... Wyoming! Nothing happens in that state! They won't find us.”

“No. We're leaving the same way we got in. We got enough money to persuade a ship captain to allow some extra cargo.” You insist, and Sergei just groans.

“Fucking bullshit, man. If I have to learn another language I'm going drown you in whatever we're walking in.”

“Just shut up and start climbing...” You grumble, taking the lead as you your bag of cash through the hole first and climb after.

***

“Hey... Hey! Mishka!”

You snap out of your daze, wiping the sweat drenching your face.

“Fucking 7s, man. You got any?”

You look at the dingy cards in your hand, noticing two 7s.

You just toss all your cards at him

“Have them.”

Sergei rolls his eyes, looking just as hot and miserable as you do. You both managed to make your way through the sewers, and after hiding for 5 hours you managed to find yourselves onto a cargo ship. It took more money than you had hoped to get entry due to the smell of you both, but here you are in a room with two cots, a deck of cards and no air conditioning.

You are full of regret.

“Christ... Where even are we, Mikhail...” Sergei asks wearily as he throws his cards down.

“He said we're going to Thailand... So Somewhere near there, I guess.”

Sergei shakes his and bites down on his lower lip, showing signs of frustration.

“This is all your fault.” He hisses.

[“Sorry, what did you say?”] You rhetorically question, furrowing your brow in growing agitation.

[“Mama said to always look after your little brother, but where does that get me? In a floating fucking coffin choking on shit fumes.”] He rants, and his words make you beat your fist on the metallic floor in anger.

[“Don't DARE bring mama into this shit! You're the one who decided to go with me!”]

He just forces a laugh, showing a smile painted with venom.

[“Decided? What kind of fucking choice is it whether or not I should kill my fucking brother?! What ever choices I had, you stole them the moment you pulled the trigger back in Grozny!”]

You just silently glare at him, doing your best to avoid lunging at him and beating the living shit out of him.

[“You really want to make this a coffin? Push me.”]

[“Oh? What'll happen if I start pushing baby Mishka around again?”] He taunts, placing a hand on the sidearm holstered in his crotch.

You start to reach a hand back around your waist, your fingers gliding over something you made back in the states.

Before you even get to think of a response, there's a sound that you and your brother are too familiar with, followed by the ship suddenly shaking and forcing you both to spill over on your backs.

It's accompanied by a muffled, but still painfully loud explosion coming from the front of the ship.
“That... That was a RPG, right?” Sergei asks, pushing himself off the ground.

“Are fucking Somalis attacking us now? Seriously?!”

You grunt, getting back on your feet.

“Start making cover! If they get lead here, we'll have to defend the cash we went through all this shit for.”

You both take your cots and flip them over, hiding yourselves and the money behind them. There's a metal frame beneath the fabric, but...

“This cover sucks, Mishka.” Sergei comments, drawing his Makarov and pulling back the slide.

“It's enough to get the drop on them, hopefully...” You respond, sounding pretty unsure yourself.

There's a tense moment of silence, and minutes feel like hours as you wait for the sounds of anyone approaching.

Eventually, you hear faint footsteps. Two people, both heading down the hall leading to your cabin.

“... Oh no. You hear that?” Sergei asks in a hushed tone.

You try listening in closer, starting to hear two muffled voices draw near.

“One of them is a chick... I hate shooting chicks, bro.” Sergei laments with a big frown.

“Suck it up.” You order, hearing the two of footsteps split off while one remains on the bath towards you both.

“Wait... You ever hear of chick Somali pirates? This has to be a first, right?”

“Shut up!” You tell him in a hushed shout just as the footsteps stop at the door, followed by a hard thud as the door is kicked open.

“Oh, this is real fuckin' cute...” You hear the rough voice of a woman comment, followed by the rattle guns being moved.

“Your pillow fort there isn't going to do shit to save you, so why come along nicely and you join the rest of your crew in shitting your pants upstairs.”

A: “You're picking the wrong ones, lady. Forget about us and you'll live to see tomorrow.”

B: [“Start shooting through the bed and keep her pinned. I got this.”]

C: Motion for Sergei to feint a surrender. You'll attack when their guard is down.

D: Surrender yourself long enough for Sergei to take aim.

You nod at Sergei and point up, silently telling him to fake it as best as he can.

“... What the fuck? What smells like shit?!” The woman speaks up again, coughing over the stench.

“Okay, okay I give!” Sergei announces, letting the gun dangle from his index finger as he raises his hands in surrender.

“You don't... You don't look anything like I expected. Wow.”

“Oh fuck! Is that literally shit on your clothes?! Hoh man, wait until Dutch sees this!”

Dutch? You assume that's the other one that split off from this crude woman. Your hand carefully returns to your back, reaching for the bandoleer of gut knives wrapped around the back of your waist.

(Special Equipment: Blade Belt. You're an expert when it comes to knives in close quarters, and have uncanny accuracy when throwing them. You have 10, make them count.)

“Alright comrade, what're you hiding down here?” You hear her ask.

“Hiding? Just me. Please, give a poor guy down on his luck a break!” Sergei pretends to plead, anxiously waiting on your next move.

“I guess that bullshit you're covered in, because you expect me to believe that an armed guy in a shit covered suit is a part of the crew? Come on, I know you and your friend got something good down here.”

You feel your hair starting to rise at what she said.

“Friend?” Sergei asks.

“There's two beds, dipshit. Here, let me point him out for you.”

When you hear the hammers of her guns being pulled back, you make your move.

Drawing two of the blades from your belt, you stand and sling them both at her from over your shoulders!

They spin through the air, barreling towards the tanned woman. She looks Chinese, but she obviously isn't from their judging from the perfect English and provocative clothing she's wearing. A frayed pair of hot pants, untied boots, and a small black tank top exposing a tribal tattoo going up her right arm.

The knife closest to the right side just misses her ear, while the one on her left cuts part of her shoulder. You didn't have enough time to aim.

“FUCK!” She shouts, firing wildly into the room at you both and taking cover outside the cabin.

The custom Berettas she's carrying rain hate in your general direction, but you and your brother manage to hit the ground in time to just avoid getting his.

[“GRAB THE CASH AND KEEP IT IN FRONT OF YOUR CENTER MASS! IT'LL WORK AS BODY ARMOR WHEN WE RUN OUT OF HERE!”]

Your brother does so, sliding a gym bag of money over to you all while whining.

[“But they'll shoot the money! And what if it doesn't work?!”] He complains.

[“It's better than sitting and dying in here!”] You respond, feeling adrenaline kick in as you charge towards the door.

“URAAAAAAAAAA!” You roar, just as the female pirate peeks out from the cover to aim her gun.

“WHAT THE FUCK--” She bellows out as furious eyes widen, but he words are cut short as you smash the heavy bag into her face!

A string of blood flies from her nostrils as she's knocked to the floor, the pistol she had been aiming knocked out of her hand.

You were hell bent on charging out of there, but had no idea where to go next. You know there's at least one other person with her, but what if there's more?! You can't run through an entire crew like this!

Looking back at your brother, you can see he's struggling to carry the heavy bag of money than you are. Dammit, should've thought about that...

You turn your head back around, and the wooden stock of a Remington 12 Gauge smashes into the bridge of your nose.

“Mikhail!” Sergei cries out, but all you can do is listen as he's pistol whipped in the back of the head with a metallic smack followed by him yelping in sudden pain.

You instinctively cover your face from the impact, and as much as you want to get back up and start ripping whoever hit you apart the barrel being stuck in your face convinces you to stay on the floor.

The man holding the gun is an older black man dressed like a commando, and his face seems relatively relaxed as he inspects you from behind his circular shades.

“Fuck!” You hear the girl nasally curse further away from you, snorting from her blood filled nose.

“Piece of shit nearly broke my nose! Move over Dutch, I'm gonna send him to the great gulag in the sky.”

“I'm not sure if that's a good idea, Revy.” The man known as Dutch responds in a deep, well spoken tone. He raises the barrel and rests the shotgun on his shoulder, reaching over to the gym bag you had dropped and unzipping it.

“Holy shit! Look at all that fucking cash!” The girl, who you now know as Revy, excitedly observes.

“We really hit the jack pot with these dumbasses. Damn, that's gotta be like what, a quarter of a million just for us?”

“Revy, help me figure this out. We got two Russians in suits carrying bags full of money on a cargo boat headed for Thailand.” Dutch lays out, still keeping his eyes on you.

“... And?” Revy asks, letting an empty magazine fall from her Beretta.

“Where do you think these two are really headed?”

There's a quiet moment as Revy vacantly stares ahead at her partner in crime, the stare turning into a look of disdain once an answer reaches her mind.

“No. Fuck you. We should--”

“WE should find some answers before we do something we're gonna regret. Yo, ruskie,” Dutch starts to ask you, lowering the gun into his lap.

“Is this stuff for Balalaika?”

[“... Who?”] Sergei groans, but he's met with one of the girl's boots kicking him in the ribs.

Don't know if I'll run again tomorrow night or not. I'm doing this based on whether or not I feel like it so I don't end up getting my soul sucked out like last time.

With that said, I hope a decent amount of you like where it's going. If you don't, I don't really give a shit because I'm doing this stupid thing for me.

Again, leave questions or whatever. I'm getting pizza so I'll answer them whenever.

I'd say not to sweat it too much about where exactly shit is at in Roanapur, as it's always kinda vague.
But we need to follow the example of the smartest man in Roanapur, get a vest and a cup because the women in this town are dangerous in direct proportion to their hotness.

I mean, in-character we have no way of knowing they don't have beef with this "Balalaika" person. Saying "yes" COULD get us shot in the head and fed to sharks.
Now, out-of-character, obviously they wouldn't do that if we said "yes", Balalaika's a regular client and one of two people on earth Revy actually shows respect to (Chang being the other).
BUT, also out-of-character, claiming to be working for Balalaika when we aren't? That could end badly, too.
We may have to give up the money to survive this. Because depending on the exact point in the timeline? Revy might just kill our asses for shits and giggles if we play this wrong.

You arch an eyebrow. Balalaika... Something about that rings a bell, but you're not sure what.

"Depends. Who are you?" You ask.

Dutch shows a small grin.

“If you have to ask, then you don't know her. Which means that's not her money you're carrying around...”

“Fuckin' A.” Revy sadistically elates, aiming each of her guns at you and your brother.

“That means it's our money. Communism's a bitch, huh?”

“Revy.” Dutch speaks up, taking her attention off you both.

“Let me finish talking with him before you go and mess up the floor. Now back to your question... We're pirates, but I guess that's real fuckin' obvious now.”

Dutch stands up, cradle carrying the shotgun as he looks down at you.

“We came here to coerce the logistics company that owns this ship into wiring us a ransom for their crew, but now I figure I can get the money out of you two.”

[“GO FUCK YOURSELF BLACK BASTARD! WE STOLE THIS MONEY FAIR AND SQUARE! WE'RE SPETSNAZ YOU FUCKING FAIRY, AND WE'LL RIP YOUR GODDAMN—AGHHFFUCK!”]

Sergei's rant ends as quickly as it began with a stomp of Revy's boot to the back of his neck.

You just clench your firsts as you lay there, wanting to do something so that crazy bitch will stop hurting Sergei, but there's no way you could get around her guns from where you are now.

“Heh... I didn't catch all that, but I'm pretty sure I heard him say Spetsnaz.” Dutch chuckles.

“So it might be bad for business if Balalaika finds out we killed you two. With all that laid out, I'd say you have two choices here. You pay us one of those bags, and we'll help you get to land, or we could just kill you both and take it. How's that sound?”

You narrow your eyes at him, knowing damn well this isn't really a choice at all.

A: Get Sergei's input first.

B: “Just take it and get us out of here.”

C: Maybe if you're fast enough, you can retrieve one of the knives and stab Dutch in the ankle...

I got an idea, what if we let them take a bag back and go to Balalaika for a favor, we tell Balalaika about the money of bags and offer to work for Balalaika, or give like half the cash in the bag in return for helping us get the bag back pretending the bags of money belong to Balalaika?

Its easy money and we get it back at maybe even all of it at no cost to us.

You shake your head in frustration. He's acting like you're paying him for boat ride when you both know damn well it's robbery, but what else can you do?

“Just take it and get us out of here.”

[“WHAT THE FUCK MISHKA?! That's OUR money! We can't get fucked over like this!”] Sergei protests, but you ignore him. It was either listen to him bitch or listen to his death rattle.

“Dutch... Since when the fuck are we running a charity? Rock was one thing but if you keep picking up these-”

“Cool your shit, Rev. I'm not hiring them, just giving them a ride.” Dutch stops her rant short, grabbing your bag of cash and slinging it over his shoulder with a grunt.

“Damn that's heavy... However, you did give me an idea Revy. Why don't you go back upstairs and see if any of those crew members are kindhearted enough to donate their clothes to these poor boys, because I'll be damned if I'm letting that shit smell follow them onto the boat.”

She clenches her teeth and lets out a small growl, angrily holstering one of her guns.

“Whatever. I don't think they'll have anything in skinny prick or Ivan Drago sizes though.”

Revy follows Dutch back to the top deck, but not before giving one last look back at you both and spitting.

“Fuck...” You groan, getting back on your feet and rubbing the sore spot where the gun butt had struck your head.

Sergei joins you, wincing with every step as he holds onto the side Revy had kicked.

“... It was either that or-”

“I know, Mishka.” He cuts you off, taking a deep breath.

“Let's just try not to get fucked out of the rest of the money, yeah? That girl... Damn...”

“I'll get her back for hurting you, Sergei.” You promise him, but he shakes his head.

“No, I mean she's fucking hot. I bet she fucks like a race car, man...”

“... She was going to kill you.” You remind him.

“Yeah... Heheh, she called you Ivan Drago too.”

“Who is that?” You ask, helping him carry the only bag of money you both have left.

He just answers with a wheezy laugh.

“Shit... They could've sunk us if they really wanted.”

You're brother pointed out the obvious as you spotted one of the two massive torpedoes on his boat. When you think of pirates, you think of a bunch of poor bastards on a shitty speedboat chasing after the first thing they see. But this... This was something else, like they did more than just rob stray cruisers.

“E... Excuse me.”

You both turned your head to look at someone emerging from the opposite side of the boat's helm.

It's... A scrawny looking office worker...? He's Japanese too, and his cautious demeanor makes you think he's one of the hostages brought on the boat like you both were.

“You guys are the Russians Dutch said were coming, right?” He asks.

[“... Who's this faggot?”] Sergei mumbles, arching an eyebrow.

[“He can't seriously be with these guys, right?”]

“... Yeah, we're them.” You answer, not letting your guard down despite his appearance.

The desk jockey takes a deep sigh of relief, coming more into view as he straightens the tie resting over his white collared shirt.

“Good... Uhm, welcome aboard. My name is Rokuro Okajima, but everyone calls me Rock. We've got some drinks in the cabin if you would like to follow me down.”

“You gonna suck our cocks while we're here too?” Sergei bluntly asks, his question physically impacting Rock as he takes a step back.

“W-What?!”

A: “Don't listen to him, he's an asshole. Lead the way, Mr. Okajima.”

B: “Pardon my brother, but... What he's trying to say is that you don't look like you belong here.”

C: Smack your brother on the back of the head and make him apologize.

D: Just let the question hang in the air and start walking. Pushing the weakling might bring some information to light.

You roll your eyes at your brother's remark.

“Pardon my brother, but... What he's trying to say is that you don't look like you belong here.”

Rock relaxes into a slump, showing a frown.

“Yeah, I'm not sure if I do either... I've been on this boat a total of three times, and the first of them was when I got kidnapped.”

“Kidnapped? So what, you're going through Stockholm symptoms or something?” Sergei asks with a smirk.

“Heh, maybe... It's a long story.” Rock answers, motioning you to follow.

“I'll tell you about it after a beer or two. Come on.”

You look at Sergei with disapproving eyes.

“... What?” He asks with a playful shrug.

“Behave yourself.” You order him, following after Rock with the heist money over your shoulder. Sergei just snickers as he trails behind.

You follow Rock down into the cabin of the ship, walking into a passage leading to the driver's seat on the right side and a larger room on the left.

Rock leads you to the larger room, showing off a dingy “break” are with some chairs, a fridge, and a side room that looks like it's holding radio equipment.

“Hey Benny, the fridge is still stocked, right?” Rock asks as he heads over to it, leaving you and Sergei to look around cautiously for whoever Rock is addressing.

“Yeah, I think Revy had a drink a while ago but we got a full pack the other night... Hey!”

You look to the radio room to see the kind face of a blond man in glasses wearing a red tropical shirt with green floral patterns covering it. He's leaning back in a office chair to look at you from the doorway, and you can see the faint glow of a computer screen color his skin.

“I see one of our guests has some fine taste.” He remarks, pointing a thumb back at his ponytail while looking at Sergei.

Your brother shows a genuine smile amid some of the confusion on his face.

“How the hell do softies like you work with that woman...” He mutters.

“Oh, right. Benny, this is... What are your names again.?” Rock asks.

“Mikhail. He's Sergei.” You answer quickly before your shithead of a brother says something stupid.

“Heard you both got in a fight with Revy. Don't worry, getting shot at by here is like a rite of passage for setting foot on here.” Benny comments, rolling the hair back into the room.

“Help yourselves to the fridge!”

You look back to Rock as he pulls out three cans of Heineken, holding one out to you both.

A: Take it.

B: “I'd rather have a smoke, if you got one.”

C: “I don't drink beer.”

D: “I don't want what's in the fridge, I want answers.”

You hold a hand out to catch it, letting Rock throw one to you and your brother.

You waste no time to crack it open and start guzzling it down. You usually prefer the strong stuff to this hoppy shit, but compared to what you've been surviving off of until now it's the best thing you've ever tasted.

“Ahh...” Sergei breathes satisfied from the sip he took.

“So, about how you wound up here, lemming...”

You're not thrilled about Sergei still giving the guy a hard time, but Rock doesn't seem too bothered by it now.

“Oh, right... I was a office lemming, until I was given a package to deliver overseas. That's when the ship I was on was hijacked and I was taken for ransom. Apparently, the package I was delivering were plans my old company were making to help develop nuclear weapons, something that would've ruined them if it had gone public.”

“So they tried to kill you and anyone else involved to make sure it wouldn't, as well as retrieve the plans.” You speak up, Rock looking a bit surprised at what you said.

“How'd you know?” He asks.

“We've had that job a few times.” Sergei says with a chuckle.
“Though not with anything as big a nukes. The Ginny pricks we worked for were more worried about rats, lawyers, witnesses... The usual shit.”

“How'd you guys wind up in the mob despite being Russian?” He asks.

“We weren't in, we just did their dirty work. We were good, but disposable due to not having any real ties.” You explain, finishing the beer rather quickly.

“But that's not as cold as a office just throwing away an employee for nuclear weapons. I can see why you're still here.”

“Yeah... What about you? What's all the cash from?” He curiously asks, looking at the hefty bag laid at your feet.

A: “A bank job that went too south.”

B: “We won the lottery.”

C: “That's for us to know, unfortunately.”

“I'll tell you in exchange for some answers.” You propose.

Rock seems caught off guard for a moment, but quickly straightens up.

“I don't know if I can give you any good ones, but what did you want to know?”

A: “Where exactly is this place we're going?”

B: “Who are Revy and Dutch exactly? I'm sorry, but you and that Benny guy seem like target practice for that psychopath and her handler.”

C: “Who is Balalaika?”

D: “What are you guys? Pirates? Mercs? I don't understand what this operation you all are running is.”

“Who is Balalaika?” You ask, getting straight to the point.

“Oh, Miss Balalaika... She's the leader of Hotel Moscow.”

“Hotel Moscow?” You ask.

“Did you say miss?” Sergei asks along with you, tossing the empty can asside.

“Uh, yeah... I don't know a whole lot, but she's in charge of an outfit of ex-spetsnaz. They're like the Russian mob, er, the Bratva, right?”

Spetsnaz. Fuck.

“Wrong.” You reply, looking over at Sergei who's showing a worried expression to match yours.

“When did they show up?” Press further, but Rock shrugs.

“Certainly before I did... Why?”

“Yo!”

You look over to the Cabin's entrance, seeing Dutch and Revy arrive. Dutch is carrying the bag of cash you “paid” him, while Revy is still looking at the knife belt they confiscated while you changed clothes.

“We're heading back to Roanapur. It's a good thing we found you two.”

“Yeah no shit, they had jack shit up there. Would've been a total waste of time if you weren't carrying the fucking lottery with you.” Revy comments, holding up your contraption and looking at you.

“The fuck is this thing anyway? What kind of dipshit packs this over a decent pair of guns?”

“Right? I told him the same thing!” Sergei adds, earning jab in the ribs from you that makes him recoil slightly.

“Because knives don't jam, don't run out of ammo and they don't miss as long as you're within 21 feet of your target. They're the most reliable weapon you have at close range.” You answer.

“Is that why you missed me earlier? Face it comrade, if you want to kill someone reliably you gotta fill em full of lead.” Revy retorts with a wry smile.

“If you really think a bunch of pocket knives will keep you safe in the city, you ought to kill yourself now.”

A: “Want to bet on that?”

B: Prove her wrong. Disarm her.
C: “Just give it back already.”

Your eyes narrow.

“Want to bet on that?” You ask, and when you do you see her eyes become like that of a monster.

“Oh? You wan to duel, Ivan? And just when Dutch saved your life...” She remarks, the true killer under her skin starting to reveal itself.

“Not exactly. Sergei, we're putting on a show.” You tell your brother, keeping your eyes locked onto her.

“... Huh?! Wait, I don't want to be in the middle of this shit!” Your brother retorts in a panic, pressing his back against the wall.

“Revy...” Dutch starts, getting ready to persuade her away from what's about to happen.

[“Sergei, get that fucking can on your head and stand in the middle of the room. Now.”] You order him, and he quickly realizes how serious you are as he goes for the can he discarded earlier.

Revy understands what the wager is from get-go, tossing you the belt back as you both get into a position where a stray shot will hit a wall rather than anyone else.

“If I win, I get the rest of your money.” Revy proposes with a wicked grin.

“Mishka. Do. Not.” Your brother warns you with suppressed emotion as he tries to stay perfectly still.

“Alright.” You accept, inciting a frustrated noise from Sergei.

“If I win, you buy my brother and I some of those superior guns you were talking about earlier. You should have more than enough in that bag.”

“Rock. Count to 3.” Revy growls, keeping her hands at her side just as you are.

“Wait, hold on! You could get Sergei killed, there's surely got to be another way-”

“Count, Mr. Okajima.” You repeat Revy's words.

He just swallows, taking a moment before speaking up.

“One...”

Dutch sets the money down, folding his arms as he leans against the door frame and watches.

“Two...”

Benny leans back in his chair, taking a peek at what's going on.

“... Three!”

Revy's hands are fast as they reach for her guns, but when she tries to wrap her fingers around the exposed grips all she's clutching is air.

That's because the first knife you threw went for her harness straps loosely hanging off the back of her shoulders

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_podzD4cSA

Her guns rattle as they fall to the floor with her ripped holster, making her get red in the face as she looks down helplessly at them.

“FUCK!” She screams, and by the time that gets out the can is already pinned to the wall behind Sergei with one of your knives.

“MOTHERFUCKER!” Revy continues to scream, grabbing your shirt by the chest and getting her booze and nicotine ridden breath in your face.

“GIVE ME ONE GOOD REASON WHY I SHOULDN'T BLOW YOUR FUCKING HEAD OFF! YOU AREN'T GETTING SHIT YOU GODDAMN CHEATER, I'M GONNA FUCKING--”

“Revy!”

Dutch calls out, stopping her.

“That's enough. You lost.”

Revy growls and shoves you away, picking up her guns. Your brother just falls flat on his ass, surprised he's still alive.

And you have a smile that just won't go away.

Time has passed, and the blue sky above has now gone dark and spread stars overhead. You stand topside with your brother, looking out to the approaching city of Roanapur.

The city is glowing under the darkness, and with that light you can see it isn't as rundown as you had expected.

Guarding the city's port is a giant statue of Buddha, but the eyes of it have been destroyed. It's as if it were conveying the message that even God can't bear to look at what evil may occur here.

“Spooky...” Your brother comments, squatting beside you as you both share a smoke and gaze at Roanapur's statue.

“Maybe this won't be so bad. I thought this place would be some rickety village of bandits with wooden shacks and wreckage everywhere, but it looks like they got plumbing!”

“Stay focused. Dutch said Balalaika was waiting on the shore.” You remind him, and his optimism vanishes.

“Mishka... You don't actually think she'll shoot us on sight for deserting do you? I mean, she's running a criminal empire or some shit out here. That's gotta be worse than us, right?”

“No, what I did was worse. You might live if you sell me out.” You bluntly respond, tensing up as the ship draws closer and closer.

“Don't tempt me. What if I actually did that?” Sergei asks as he exhales smoke from his lungs.

You shrug.

“Guess I'll die.”

Sergei shakes his head, flicking his cigarette into the waters below the deck.

***

Three cars, possibly armored.

Total of six armed guards in suits, carrying soviet weapons.

Cars are also in perfect position to barricade and cover the guards if you try anything.

No way to fight, no where to run.

That's what greeted you as you reached land. You and your brother followed after the crew that had brought you here, with them allowing you to take center stage in this meeting as they all stood off to the side.

“Dutch, why do I get the feeling we have front row seats to a fucking execution?” Revy asks almost jokingly, tugging on her chest harness she recently “fixed” with duct tape.

“Yeah, something's up... Whatever this is, I just don't want anything getting on the boat.” He responds casually. Guess there's no real concern for you both seeing as they've already been paid for the trip here.

Suddenly the middle car has it's read door open towards you, and you see this mysterious Balalaika begin to step out.

She's dressed in red business attire, but what catches your attention is military jacket hanging off her shoulders. It displays the rank of a fucking Captain...

What also catches your eye are the scars, dark burn marks curling around her chest and neck like vipers until stopping over her right eye.

Her cold eyes stare through you both as a lit cigar hangs from her mouth, and you already feel death breathing down your neck.

You don't say a damn word, and for once your brother realizes he should do the same.

“... Well Dutch, when you said you were bringing former Spetsnaz to me I thought they would be from Afghanistan like the rest of my unit. These two are from Chechnya.” She observes coldly, pulling the cigar from her red lips and disposing of some ashes hanging from it.

“I see. Is that a problem?” Dutch asks, keeping his eyes on you both rather than speaking to the woman directly.

She smiles, her eyes locked more onto you rather than your brother.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CAHLr4nWxU

“It depends... Do you know who this one in particular is?”

“No idea.” He answers.

“Tch, get to the point already fry face...” Revy mumbles.

“Let me give you a little history lesson, then... The Grozny mountains were home to Chechen rebels more than the city itself was, and it was believed the soldiers ambushing infantry during the initial attack were receiving orders from those very mountains. A covert mission was carried out to forested mountains by a team of six men. Of course, like the start of the battle they had underestimated the resourcefulness of the Chechens and fell into a trap set for anyone attempting to infiltrate their encampment. All of them were believed to be killed except for one, who was to be executed in order to send a message directly to Moscow... Or rather, they thought only the one was alive.”

Balalaika grins.

“A few days after the team failed to report back, a search and rescue mission was already in the works within their forward operating base when there was a sudden commotion at the front entrance. There stood the the captured soldier being held up by the one that saved him... His brother, who described as more blood than man by that point. When both were treated by medical staff, they found plenty of skin and muscle tissue under his fingernails and even between his teeth, so when you add that to the torn up remains of 20 rebels... Heheh, well, you can see why he was called the Grizzly of Grozny from that point forward.”

Hearing her reveal this is causing you to practically relive the moment in your mind, and just like that night you feel like you're no longer in your own body, just watching the behavior of someone else.
[Part 2 in following post]
>>
>>3655995

There's a pause, but all the reactions are silent. Dutch's face hasn't changed, while Revy looks like she's hooked to the story of your life before being brought here. Benny and Rock both look disturbed, but what else could you expect.

“It would turn out that this Grizzly truly was a wild animal, for soon it was reported that simple recon mission had lead to the deaths of his Commanding Officer and squad, with him and the brother nowhere to be found.”
Balalaika takes another drag from the cigar, keeping the maleficent smile spread across her lips.

“As you might already be aware, I've been been contacted from the KGB with this information in case you ever decided to hide in this city. Should I be successful in returning your corpses to the Motherland, I'll be able to redeem a rather large favor for my trouble.”

There's a heavy silence in the air. You notice some soldiers have already dismissed their trigger discipline while looking at you. The people that brought you here are probably thinking that they escorted you to your own death, but there's no way to know how they truly feel.

You can't bear the shame of looking at the brother you had once saved, because now he will die for the actions you've committed.

You finally find the words to speak to this woman who might be the one to end your life.

“Are you going to follow through with those orders now?”

Balalaika looks at you for a moment, then slow puts her face in her free hand.

Nothing else is said by her or her men, so you use this time to bargain for your brother's life.

“Let him live. It's my fault.” You tell her, but you're met with a muffled noise coming from her.

And as she raises her head, you start to realize...

She's laughing.

The laughter betrays the nature she presented herself with earlier, as she sounds genuinely tickled by your question.

“God, no! You think I'd let those incompetent pencil pushers give me orders? The only things I can expect from them are disappointment and headaches.”

The tension that was shared between you and Sergei is stolen by her reaction to your question. You... You were seriously ready to die right there, and she laughs it off?! What... What are you supposed to feel now.

“Mikhail... You know how close I was to shitting myself?” Sergei utters quietly, giving Balalaika the same disturbed look you are.

Balalaika composes herself after a few more chuckles, the smile that once sent a chill down your spine now showing some warmth behind it.

“No, I think it'd be more beneficial if I let you both live. We may not have been comrades in the same war, but I'm sure that we come to an understanding here. Wouldn't you agree?”

You need a moment to think. You're fresh of the boat, and even moments away from your life almost being taken from you. Now isn't the time to throw your life into another-

“Of course, Miss Balalaika!” Sergei answers, crashing your train of thought.

“Or would Captain be better? We're very grateful for this opportunity, and may I say that seeing you is--”

“Oh enough you blabbermouth.” Balalaika cuts him off, the smile having turned into a frown.

“I was hoping that the reputation around that mouth of yours was exaggerating, but unfortunately you've proved them to be accurate.”

Balalaika takes one last drag, then carries the smoke with her as she casually walks over to you both.

“I'd recommend following Lagoon company to that sleazy bar down the road and give yourselves some well deserved rest. I'll have Polansky pick you up once we've found a place for you both to stay.”

She holds an open hand out to you, the smile returning.

“The money, please.”

You furrow your brow, but she attempts to ease your building frustration.

“We'll keep it safe for you. I wouldn't want to try my luck carrying that around this cesspit, especially after dark.”

You're hesitant, but you do concede and set the bag down for her. The weight was starting to be a pain in the ass anyway.

“Oh, heavier than I expected...” She comments, gripping the strap and hoisting it up.

“You have my word that your money will be with you once we've got you settled in. As you trust me with this...”

Her eyes go cold again, and her words leave a mark on your very soul.

“I trust that you won't try to take the life of another Commanding Officer during your stay. I'll see to it that this city eats you and your brother alive if you even think about putting a knife to my back.”

“Understood.” You confirm, watching as she heads back to her car.

“Welcome to Roanapur, if you need anything don't hesitate to call.”

And with those words, she departs with the rest of her security, leaving you and Lagoon Company behind.

“That money is cursed...” Sergei comments, wiping away sweat that had been collecting on his forehead.

“Alright you two, congratulations on not getting killed ten seconds after you reached the city.” Dutch speaks up, he and Benny splitting off from Rock and Revy.

“If you want to take Balalaika's suggestion, the Yellow Flag is just down the road. Otherwise, I don't really give a shit what you do. Just don't interfere with my business, and I think we'll get along just fine.”

“Thank you, Dutch.” You respond with gratitude, giving him a firm handshake as he passes you by and returns to the ship.

Benny follows after, giving you both a friendly wave.

“Hey, dipshits.”

“What does this bitch want now...” Sergei groans as you both turn to look at the direction her harsh words came from.

“You want a ride to the bar, or are you gonna fuck off?”

She's seen raising the door to a dumpy looking garage, showing off a gorgeous red car that you're sure only Sergei would recognize.

“Hot damn, a 1969 Plymouth...” Quietly comments, proving you right.

A: Motion Sergei to follow you over to the car. You really need that drink.

You nod your head over at them, leading Sergei to the path of liqour.

Wooden floors stained with blood and booze.

Every table has someone's gun on it.

There's flimsily dressed women hanging onto a few men's arms, clearly trying to sell themselves.

“YOU CHEATING COCKSUCKER!”

Two men crashing to the floor in a scuffle, accompanied by drunk patrons laughing and pouring out glasses onto them.

All of it to some rough music coming out of barely functioning jukebox speakers.

If you didn't see any of this coming in, you would've been disappointed. This looks like what you figured a pirate's bar would be.

“Bao, the usual.” Revy orders the barkeep, an older Vietnamese man with receding hair and two pencil marks that he probably considers a mustache.

He lowers the newspaper he was reading, giving Revy a look of disdain.

“The usual? How about 'Hey Bao here's the money I owe for destroying your fucking bar' you stupid bitch!”

You almost get worried that Revy is going to kill the rude bastard for a moment, but Sergei feeds you some trivia to ease those thoughts.

“Lucky prick. He can probably tell her to suck his cock and he won't lose his head over it. Every lowlife in here has a mutual respect for the guy willing to contribute to their vices.”

“Huh.” You note, taking a seat next to Rock on your right. Sergei takes the stool to your left, leaning over to watch Revy argue with Bao.

“Look Charlie Chang, I just got more than enough cash to make your bar look less shitty, but right now me and those two commie fucks next to us are thirsty.”

Bao spits on the floor, getting a bottle of Bacardi and two glasses for Revy and Rock.

“You fucking better, because next time I'm nailing your ass to the wall.” Bao responds, looking over at you and your brother next.

“Tch.” He utters, getting a bottle of Vodka without even asking what you wanted.

It wasn't wrong for him to assume that you wanted it, but still.

“Here.” He gives you both glasses and the bottle, going right back to his paper.

“Enjoy your potato water boys, maybe next time you'll get a real drink.” Revy taunts, taking a large sip of her drink.

“You said the same thing to me Revy, and we ended up trying to out drink each other...” Rock laments.

“... Potato water? [I've had just about enough of this cunt. She can insult me, you, our clothes, but god DAMN her if I'll let her insult vodka!”]

“You are sounding like stereotype.” You comment, pouring into the two glasses and giving them to Sergei.

“And you look like one...” He grumbles as you gulp down the burning liquid straight from the source.

“Gaahhhh...” You exhale, looking to Rock and Revy as they focus on their drinks.

“Hmph... Bacardi... Sounds like pussy shit.” You remark, taking another swig.

“Huh? You say something comrade? Because if you want to...”

Her words stop short when she sees you drinking straight from the bottle. You don't know why she stopped because of that, though. You're just drinking.

“Ahh... I said what'd you do to this place? This Bao guy looks ready to kill you over it.” You reiterate.

“I didn't do shit, it's Rock's fault!” Revy shifts the blame with a punch to Rock's shoulder, causing him to spill some of his drink onto his shirt.

“Ow—Hey!” Rock complains, rubbing where she hit.

“It's not my fault they sent those guys after me!”

“They?” You pipe up.

“The Company that made Rock their bitch until we came along and rescued him.” Revy tells with a mischievous grin as she looks into her glass.

“They sent some mercenaries in here to do a total clean up job. Anyone and everyone in this place got sent to the great beyond as they sprayed the fucking place with bullets. Then, as Dutch put it, I showed them why they call me Two Hands. Fuckin' A.” Revy finishes as she takes another large sip and slams the empty glass down.

“Oh great, she has a nick name for killing people too? This is bullshit.” Sergei protests.

“When the fuck am I going to get one?”

“Fucking sick bastards...” Bao mumbles, glaring down at his papers.

“What's up, Bao?” Rock asks.

Bao puts the paper down. You can't read the text, but the pictures tell enough of a story.

It's pixelated in certain areas like faces, but it looks like several people hacked up in a parking garage.

“It's this new batch of fuckers that came in from the South East Triads... Jarkrata or some shit.” Bao grumbles.

“What's the big deal? Some fuckers played Friday the 13th on that poor bastard and his guards. Idiots get done in like that all the fuckin' time by cartels.”

“Did you even read the fucking paper you retard?!” Bao snaps at her.

“No, but you're gonna have a hard time reading it to me when break glass over your fucking eyes!” Revy barks back.

“You don't get it! Sure, it's nothing new... But you gotta look at the fucking details! People get chopped up when they're rats or if shit's personal, but this guy was just an accountant... And the scary part is that it was a mob of these fucks. Witnesses said at least ten.”

“And that's why I use two guns.” Revy comments with a smirk.

“Although I gotta admit, seems like overkill for just an accountant. Hopefully Chang'll do something before they see Rock out in public.”

“Hey! Don't joke about stuff like that! Man... If I saw that many people charging me, I'd freeze up.” Rock comments looking away from the paper.

“Hopefully we don't get welcomed into the city like that, ey bro?” Sergei badgers with a joking smile on his face.

“Da...” You slur, putting down the bottle. Here's wishing you don't.

So far it's got a good build up like your DC did for the first arc.i am interested.

I am also hoping you keep the pace up and consistent so we don't end up with arc 2 issues.

Nobody died :(

Its good so far, slow start and build up, but its a build up that I hope makes it more interesting down the line.

I like the chars background and enjoy the fact that the "mad angry russian bear" has such a blatant weakpoint when it comes to his own brother. Real good shit right here for a compelling story, that being said I gotta see where this is going before I deem this big poopoo caca or actually good.
