Nation RP Hex Edition™

>>3580812

===============================================================
Rules and Information:
Read the OP before you ask dumb questions.

Standard RP rules apply.

The purpose of this is to create an enjoyable story through gameplay and RP, remember that there is no winning or losing, good RP and loremaking is the goal.

Be reasonable. (Most important rule)

All players may post 2 actions (one turn) once they start, after this they may post another turn after 5 other players have posted their own turns. You may also post one turn per day without waiting for 5 players to post.
Diplomacy and lore posts do not count as an action.

Claimed hexes signify land occupied by the population
All players passively gain land each map update. In your OP you may specify if you wish to opt out of this.
Each hex is roughly 50 miles.

Cities can only be founded in tiles occupied for at least 1 turn prior.

Magic is not attainable through start.

Max starting tech should be equivalent to the bronze age.

DMed Wars: If players request, or it is needed due to OOC conflict, OP may moderate wars through both players posting an attack and/or defense to which OP analyzes and comes to a conclusion.

OP's word is law and reserves the right to retcon any posts requiring such action.
Expect IC catastrophes for poor behavior.

Grievances are to be directed to OP through private messages. Any complaints not issued this way are invalid.

More rules and information exists but the above are simply the most important.

>Actions 1 and 2:

Grenoll spread out further along their rivers into the unsettled reaches of marsh and grassland that line their environs. Carving out new farms, new homesteads and new villages.

>Diplomacy:

>>3617761

The people of the marshes downriver of Graham's town would report a strange sight; a boat of large frogs has landed at the mouth of the river. Some carry weapons, some tools, and a few seem to have baskets of food with them. They seem wary, but still venture songs of greeting in their own burbling language to any who might stumble across them.

>>3618703

A lone Grenoll has also ventured out into he grasslands south of Salvation, singing at the top of it's voice. It carries two feathers, and appears to be dancing, and waving its forelimbs as if mimicking a bird as it seeks out a Skeleton to throw a necklace of fishscales around their bony neck.
>>
>>3619601
Actions:

1. First step finally becomes large enough to become a city. Foundations for new buildings are sunk into the mud where they begin to petrify, much like the foundations of real life Venice.

2. (Finally!) Expeditions up into the hills and mountain surrounding the harsh northern swamps are organized and sent. Who knows what they will find...
>>

The shorties are putting up a good fight, but Senori can't allow trespassers to think they can cut down their trees!

>1.
The fighting with the shorties has shown the Senori that they need better weapons to defend their home. Research ways to improve our metal.
>2.
Medicine is a core part of Senori culture. Many tribes had their own cures for illnesses and injuries. Some worse or better than others. It's time to weed out and improve our understanding and creation of medicine and health. Create schools of health.

>Eagle Domestication
>Explore the Island Ruins

The harpies have been cohabitating with the Eagles of the Isles of Myst for a while now. Despite rough relations with the adult ones, newborn chicks have largely come to accept the harpy presence. Especially those raised by the harpies themselves. Over time, the eagles have slowly grown more and more comfortable with he harpies, until they come to closely resemble a relationship like that between man and dog. For now, the eagles fly with bands of harpies, and often help them hunt. They make for good companions and excellent hunting partners.

On their soaring across the seas to a forgotten isle, the harpies pass over a series of land-strider ruins. While the island doesn't seem to have entirely depopulated, it does seem as if most of the larger buildings and structures have been left forlorn or forgotten. After the first few passes, and confirmation that nothing is actively trying to shoot them, they make for landfall to explore what the ruins have to offer.

>War
>>3617564 CRE
The harpies on the now named Bloodscale Peak have been dealing with these wyvern-blooded invaders for a while now. At first, they were content to let them fumble up the sides of the mountain, and slowly get picked to shreds by their talons and blades. The constant stream of red scales and meat isn't a bad deal either. But they still come with an alarming consistency, no matter the season. As such, a small band of harpies outfitted and trained for combat flys out north, following the convoys, and begins to dive and attack Yi and its convoys.

>Diplo
>>3619190 Symbians
Having not heard from their mountain friends in a while, some bands of trading harpies return to their original Take-Give partners. They are lead by a very familiar face, whom carries a Symbian bobble around her neck.
They bring with them various foods from lands unknown, as well as a small assortment of bog-iron and bronze weapons and armor made by the Grenolls. The harpies are particularly drawn to the new series of metal the Symbians seem to be utilizing.

>>3618323 Dwarves
At first, the encroachment of the small hairy plains creatures is met with some caution and fear by the Harpies. Largely born by songs carried on the winds; songs of wyvern-blooded beasts crawling up their mighty mountain. But instead of trying to scale the hills, these small, furry creatures seem to burrow into its side and down. Because these mole-beasts seem to rarely come back up out of their holes once inside, and event then only to walk back to their coast, they never interact with the harpies that choose to roost on peaks, ridges, and cliff faces.
Since the harpies don't see the Mole-beasts, and they don't seem to be interfering with the Harpy's hunting or roosting, the harpies are content let them do as they please for now.
The Harpies on the edge of the Sea of Myst however begin to keep a sharper eye out for small fuzzy creatures trying to get too close.
>>
>>3619854
The Harpies approach upon the first district of Yi. Witnessing vast tracts of mud and wettened sand, witnessing buildings in disarray and more structures ruined and in disarray surrounding the district, people of various scales, of mytts and those who resemble Ulaan and the Empress. They see the trading of small trinkets and caravan's moving from the ruins to the city and to the grand palace that jutted out in the middle of a city past Yi, with a roost like flame made of solid gold.

With a woman surrounded by gleaming copper guard's holding something. As the harpies dive down into the district of Yi, among claustrophobic alley-ways filled with waste, many still holding skeletons and the dead who have not been buried, the city smells of carrion, of death, of misery and of life, of foods roasted over fires or in ovens and of smell of scales, fire, smoke and above all else the city was covered in a smell that was thick, predatory and emanated from the palace.

The smell of shared blood, as clouds appear from nowhere as Harpies end caravans and shred people leaving to adventure in ruin's, shrieks and incomprehensible language is screeched, Rain falls heavy like sheets, massively drenching the desert with rain clouds, an ominous dark grey.

((Part 1.))
>>
>>3620082
It is now that screeching creatures where seen leaping from building to building. Mytt atoo them howling and screaming in their foreign tongue. With poisoned stingers and terrifying feet that dig into the roofs steadily and strong.

The Harpies find monstrous insects ridden by those of the shared blood leaping for them with spears tipped with copper and bronze.

>Action 1:

The choice of a Sire to a Squire can have a great impact on their life and development. Most fill their duties well, but the Grenoll start finding that some Squires may not be getting the full range of learning that should see them into adulthood from busier Sires with too many other tasks or not enough knowledge of their own. The Grenoll develop schooling, for youngsters and Squires to gain a broader base of knowledge and learning.

>Action 2:

The long, sandy beaches of the southeastern shores have always been tolerable, though never well liked, due to the dryness of the sands and the exposure. However, as Grenoll smiths continue to experiment they find the sands have interesting properties, when heated... they become translucent, and eventually transparent; and flow together in the heat before cooling leaves then as solid mass. The Grenoll keep testing and experimenting, declaring the new material 'Glass'.

>Battle Eagles
>Scout/explore the ruins and desert around the grand palace.

The harpies begin to train the eagles in combat and following orders, more so than for just to hunt. Eagles can be dispatched by their handlers and can either fly and attack in formation, or attack in their own individual attack runs.
Given the harpies' love and care for the eagles, they have grown much stronger and more powerful than those in the wild. Eagles will often have little baubles or decorations to help distinguish who their owner is.

The harpies, after their experience in a frontal assault against the CRE, decide it would be best to scour and search the area around the Grand Palace in a bunch of small, disjointed groups. This way to try to gain as much knowledge as possible, while also making it harder to rain them out.

>>3619733 Shroomish Tribes
The harpies have meet many different peoples. But none thus far have resembled the strange, big-headed things that have begun scouting their mountains. As the harpies take a closer look, they honestly cannot tell what to make of them. They don't look like any sort of fleshy, land-stridding beast, and instead like some sort of plant that the harpies have often overlooked when soaring through the Sea of Myst.
A few choose to land on crags or outcropings and call out to these weird squishy-things. They also bob and shake their heads, flapping wings occasionally. They are really wigged out by walking foliage.

>>3620082 CRE
The first band of harpies had been greedy and vicious. Too much so. They had been the first to rush too low into the streets and put blade to flesh, passing by group after group on their attack run without even stopping to loot. When the deluge came out of no where, no harpy was prepared. Their normal predictions of the weather and rainfall could not anticipate the magic the woman possessed. While the rest of the harpies were far and spread out enough to get away only moderately drenched, the first band was quickly soaked and forced to land on the roofs of buildings, least they get caught in the mudslides roaring across the ground below. There, they were no match for the scorpion riders as they crawled and leapt onto the roofs.
While future bands would choose to be more careful in their attack runs, and immediately pull out if the scroll-bearing woman ever appeared on the scene, the loss of some of their fiercest warriors would go down in song.

>Also, Grenoll, Senori, and Symbians
Having long been acquainted with the harpies, on friendly terms, the people of each nation always hear new Harpy Songs carried on the winds as new bands come in. Thanks to their continued interaction, the harpy language has become easier and more widespread among the populace.
Over time, they hear songs of the Cloud-Stalkers, and their adoration of fitness. Songs of the Twin-Headed, and their mountains of shiny warriors. And Songs of the Marsh-Tredders, with their throats full of song and weapons of iron.

>Harvest mushrooms from the Sea of Myst
>Sonata of the Sand.

With the discovery of the Shroomish Tribes, the harpies have a new found interest in fungal things. The Sea of Myst, with its high humidity and gentle temperatures is the perfect place to find more. The harpies are not sure if all mushrooms are as lively as those from the southern swamp, but perhaps these will be valuable or delicious to eat.

Much like their Hymn of the Phoenix, the harpies immediately start spreading the spell on the newly found scroll, reintroducing the old-form composition into modern harpy song. The mountains and valleys to the east soon become known amonst the harpies as a place of many magics and old songs.
>>3620082
While the words of the spell are spread across the skies, the scroll itself is utilized by a particular band of harpies that act as one of the main raiders of the Grand Palace and its surrounding ruins. Careful to keep the scroll itself wrapped up and protected in water-proof canisters, the harpies throw large sandstorms to buffet the people, and use low and fast sandstorms to distract and inhibit caravans before they raid them.

Grenoll enter dwarven waters despite being warned in the past, they hail a Daitaz'jotkag as the crew fish with a released roof creating a platform. The singing confuses the dwarves, and as the Grenoll come within dwarven vision, they quickly mount the ship's ballistae. The Grenoll would only hear unintelligible dwarvish from within the ship before bolts fly. The Grenoll vessel is assaulted by a volley of ballista fire, though the bolt heads designed for flesh, they would likely make short work of the primitive watercraft, sinking it in moments.

-

To aid in the transportation of lumber, the dwarves construct roads and improve the simple tunnel within the hill. Additionally, the capital improves its roadwork as well, creating roads to help ships resupplying stations on the coasts, and aiding loggers at home.
>Roads

The dwarves focus research into weaponry, primarily the ballista, a useful weapon for striking foe from afar. Designs are created for ease of use and transportation primarily on ships, improving aiming and loading, as well as the amount of energy they can send bolts flying with. With so many possible designs, ballista crafting becomes a new art and hobby among the dwarves.
>Ballista Upgrades
>>
>>3624033

The Grenoll race for the small boats as their trading craft is torn apart by the Ballistae volleys of the superior dwarven vessel. One of the translators remains stubbornly at his post, singing a repeating chorus of 'We are traders not fish you hairy Dwarf' until a bolt impales him to the mast and ends his croaking, but his Squire is not so stubborn, and is on the small boat with the few survivors of the incident as it furiously paddles away back into Grenoll waters, the trading ship going down at their back as a sinking pincushion.

The news of the incident is greeted with some dismay when it reaches the council in Grenuis, the Grenoll having previously assumed their first Dwarf contact to have gone comparatively well. Response is debated, but the vote goes against it; the ship was a private trader, not an arm of the Grenoll state, and it had undisputedly been inside Dwarven waters at the time.

1) But though there is no immediate response, there in an increase in wariness. The Grenoll decide to raise a fortress to guard the twin passages into the Grenuis lagoon, and start work on the construction of Grengarde, their masons building mountain-hewn stonework up into a mighty citadel to stand guard over the waters.

2) The Grenoll make improvements to their Catapults, producing new, larger versions with further range and increased throwing velocity. These 'Magronel' are designed for both static positioning, in the defense of Towns and Fortresses, and for transportable boat-based variants that can be mounted on the deck of an ocean craft (or fill near the entirety of a small, purpose-built river vessel).

The tribe leader examines the bog-iron artifacts and concludes that these artifacts far outpace the usefulness of a nail. And due to this he concludes that since this iron is of such poor quality in comparison to normal Symbian metalwork but just as strong as bronze of a similar low quality that it would be wondrous if only he and his hairie could get their hands on the knowledge used to create this than surely such metalworking could prove revolutionary within Symbian society.

He asks the harpies if they could help him get to where these artifacts were made so that he can figure out how they are made. He desires to bring a band of 8 pairs of Symbians with him and his hairie. He promises that he and his band will do the work to feed whoever guides them through hunting and carried supplies. >Expand: Take the Mountains and Ruins of the SW island, spend any remaining expansion in the western mountain range.

The harpies have long been the sole masters of the sky. But with the introduction of Eagle-hounds, the Great-Scaled-One, and the occasional flying wyvern-blooeded, the harpies are feeling their own niche encroached upon. The harpies will not allow this, and immediately begin training to float and dive through the air with a grace unheard of outside of song. The harpies not only use this for showboating and entertainment, they also utilize this increased maneuverability for mid-air fighting and dodging.
Larger airshows also become a part of traditional harpy shows.

The Harpies begin a trade of steel weapons from the Grenoll, with alcohol from Senori.

The harpies graciously accept the proposed meal, and suddenly, enough harpies flock over to make it an impromptu festival. While most of the harpies are just there to enjoy food, and general carousing, the original harpies that the Grenoll had approached still remember why they are there.
Various songs are sung, from their early encounters with these strange people, to their great friendships held now. The Grenoll learn the harpies are over all very happy with both the Cloud-Stalkers and Twin-Headed. The Twin-Headed seem to be more isolated to themselves up in their mountains far far to the west, while the Cloud-stalkers reside between the two mountain ranges to the north with their rain and rivers.
Though the Grenoll probably notice that the Harpies speak of their relatively short distance as-the-bird-flies, meaning the on-land journey would be far more strenuous.

The rest of the harpies carry the Pointers and the various supplies and foodstuffs to make the journey. It will take a fraction of the time and effort than on foot.

While devising new designs for handheld ballista, or more simply known as a crossbow, a dwarven inventor created a simple and efficient way of drawing back the bow. Rather than barbarically pulling as one simple mind would immediately think to do, instead the user uses their own weight, pushing, if not falling onto the device. This allows for large crossbows to be created with powerful draw weights without necessary strain on the user or much muscle, and is in fact beneficial to have the user be rather large, and wear heavy armors as well to aid the loading process.
With this, the dwarves can produce and utilize a brutally simple and efficient strong ranged weapon so simple that any dwarf can use it, and aiming is as simple as resting a curved butt stock of the crossbow onto their belly or beard.
This would eventually lead the dwarves into using the weapons as sport as well, with the only rule being that the user may not use weighted clothing, the dwarves compete to see who can score the highest amount of points shooting targets with custom made crossbows, with many taking advantage of their weight to load them and gorging themselves to become even heavier so they may use stronger crossbows.
This new device would be named Verdz'vairf.
>Dwarven Crossbows

Dwarves begin making steady patrols around the waters within the ships' ranges, as such, ships are larger the further they are out to sea, as ordered by dwarven lords.
Additionally, fishing vessels would act somewhat as patrols in the areas which they work the most, so less military presence is needed.

At dusk the following day, the earth quakes with much intensity before the ground becomes as waves at sea, raising and falling for hours, and raising in height eventually becoming mountainous.
The raised and quaking land then suddenly erupts in hot ash and molten rock, which spills down into the surrounding grassland, while the wind carries hot ash into the outskirts of Chosen and Erab lands.

The Grenoll travel far.
Very far.
Impossibly far.
Finding the usually unique life forms, but nothing too terribly interesting, but as they descend, their vision is hindered by increasing darkness, even with light sources, the walls and air before them seems darker, and even further they then feel a comforting warmth radiating the deeper they go.

Though they can still see, albeit poorly, their exploration is halted when the tunnel ends, they can go no further, but within the darkness, they are met with a red glow, emanating from a single crystalline surface lodged deep into the stone wall.

A lulling hum draws them closer.

(Diplomacy, grenol primarily)
After many days of travel the band, after not finding the villages they had previously reached good enough for an exchange of the crafts they reach the great city of Grenius.

They speak a language vaguely similar to the language of the harpies. Similar enough to have a decent information exchange between the two groups.

They ask that in exchange for what they know about metalworking that the Grenoll may give them the knowledge they have on metalworking. They only ask for enough food or money to feed themselves while they are resident and will also throw in some of their own trinkets and even their single massive bronze with encrusted gold master crafted hairie club axe as compensation. Perhaps in return for a lighter iron weapon they will forge themselves once they understand how metalworking with iron works.

>>3626768
The quakes are felt by the symbians. But the damage is insignificant compared to the confusion and worry among the priests. Why could this event have happened? Are the gods in distress? This confusion continues until the quakes end for the most part. But now they know they must try to find the gods with s decent fever, for if they can help their creators perhaps the minor nuisance of the quakes will end.

Action 1:
A few great voyages are funded and using some of the more seaworthy fishing vessels the Symbians launch their voyages both east and west once they reach the end of the bay of mud whales.

(Diplo) Dwarves
The eastern group reaches as far as kerob and the western fairly far until they are met by a Dwarven patrol ship. Their ship is not one of war, though it’s pure size is still as imposing as many Dwarven ships can get. They speak a language similar enough to harpy to be intelligible. They ask for safe passage to the farthest they can get along the coast of the continent, or at least to the nearest Dwarven coastal city so that they may speak to the esteemed priests and lords of the dwarves.

>>3622884
(Diplo) (Senori)
A great boat like that of the dwarves but of a radically different style reaches the city of Kerob from the west.

They speak like the harpies and thus preform their desire to speak with the lord’s of the city so that they can exchange diplomatic and geographic information. Along with any information they can get on any gods they worship.

Action 2:
(I assume I find salt)
Salt mines are established and abandoned every so often where salt can be found. Salt permeates through the empire like hotcakes, allowing a population growth now that food does not spoil as quickly.
>>
>>3627655
The Symbians would be faced with the closed top dwarven vessel, with one dwarf watching them in an exposed stout tower centrally located on the ship.
After a brief disappearance, he is seen once more before the ship's oars quickly guide the ship to angle its broadside at the Symbians.
The previously enclosed ship suddenly bursts open at the top, its roof dropped to reveal over a dozen ballistae manned by dwarves aiming at the Symbians, then shortly after, firing large bolts to strike at both Symbians and their ship.

1. Second home is fortified, flame dried mud covering palisade walls forming an solid barrier against wildlife and flora alike.

2. Second home becomes the site of a great foundery, at least by Shroomen standards. Smoke pours out of the top, drifting into harpy lands. Whether this has any negative effects is yet to be seen...

>>3622800
The Shroomen who witness the harpies feel oddly disturbed at their movements and vocalizations. These things are unlike the beings from the sea, at least they kept their distance, and provided some sort of trade. The winged ones kept their distance, but only looked and called at them...
>>
>>3626841

As the Grenoll lift out their glow-fungus lanterns to study the area, one of the noviates of the order would assume a froggy smile and step forward toward the lulling hum, allowing it to draw them close, and reaching out for the Crystalline surface.
>>
>>3627902
In the distance to the east a smaller Symbian vessel turns around and heads back west...

After the fearsome Dwarven barrage the panicking Symbian deck crew begin to hurl giant whaling harpoons at the Dwarven ballistas and around them. Under the deck Symbian rowers scramble up to the deck armed with giant foraging axes, hunting spears and many, many unwieldy pieces of wood which only a hairie could ever hope to wield. After most of the harpoons are exhausted Symbian boatmen attempt to climb into the offending Dwarven vessel in order to take out the remaining ballistas and take revenge for the unwarranted attack by the dwarves. Many crash through the roof and through the walls of the Dwarven ship when they attempt to board it. A great born can be heard blasting through the air as more harpoons are brought on to the deck of the Symbian ship.

>Scale-mail
>Dibs on the new mountains! (any remaining can be spent on the north western coast.)

>>3626656
With the great beast gone, the harpies realize that their scatterbrained nature has cost them some goodwill. While they have been steadily gaining scales from the bodies of the wyvern-blooded that invade their land, as well as the victims of their own raids, they have yet to do more with them than hoard their corpses for butchering. Now they shall start to go to work on their first attempts at assembling something out of all these scales. The harpies start with what is essentially a scale-mail made for their own physiology, built around the harpy meant to wear it, with the help of at least half a dozen craftsmen.
The armor has everything a harpy could ask for: It is lightweight and flexible enough not to hinder flying or movement, but still provides a fair bit of protection from slashing and piercing attacks. Most importantly, it is also a brilliant shade of red that, unless actively coated in pitch or mud, lets the harpy peacock to its peers to its hearts content.
By becoming more familiar with working with scale, the tablet-wielding harpy begins to organize the construction of an even larger project should their feathered friend return.

>>3626768
The creation of the new mountains draws the attention of many harpies from across the central region. And with the long-eared land-striders seemingly gone, the harpies want first dibs on new roosting spots. While the terrain is perhaps still too volatile for proper habitation, the harpies begin circling and patrolling the air-space, making sure to show that these mountains are as good as theirs. Making sure to stay clear of any ash or smoke, they do daily patrols before returning to the Stepping Stone mountains or to very choice locations on the volcano that seem less active.

Should any harpies arriving to the volcanic mountains run across the Great-Winged-One, they'll wisely try to not engage it, let it do its own thing, and pick out its own roost should it choose. Though a small set of wyvern-hunters from Tisiphone would be dispatched to the region should sightings of their friend be sung to them. They'll try to show the creature their progress on working with scale, and also attempt to warn the beast about the dangers of high temperatures to its wings.

>>3626756
The harpies explain in both pride and sadness their skirmishes with the Wyvern-blooded to the north. For the most part the harpies have been highly successful in beating them back down the mountain, and have even started to raid the desert suburbs and convoys. Though the wyverns' ability to summon rain from thin air has caused issues in any attempt in assaulting the capital.

>>3627927
The mushroom men don't seem to do much, nor say much, which is about what the harpies would've expected out of them. Considering they seem to not be made of meat, and could possibly be poisonous, they largely leave them be for now. So long as they only stride the land beneath them, and don't try to set up shop.

The smoke from Second Home would at most run up against the first set up foothills, before largely dispersing. While I am unaware of the actual meteorology of the region, I'd assume the smoke would probably gather with the clouds that come in from the coast and produce the rainfall that makes the region as marshy as it is. So over all, I don't think it'd have much of an effect on harpy air.
It would, however, be far more concentrated in the airspace around Second Home. That'd definitely ward off most harpies that don't have explicit reason to be there.

>Action 1:

The Grenoll expedition in the depths set out Glowfungus-lanterns as they continue to investigate and study the glowing red crystaline surface protruding from the stony wall, intrigued by the comfort and warmth of the humming. A few start to sing old, comfortable songs as clerics debate politely with scholars, both eager to uncover the true nature of their discovery.

>Action 2:
The Grenoll lands are not devoid of trees; with their riverbanks lined with weeping Marshwillow, heavy Bogwoods rearing up throughout the marsh expanses, tall plains oaks scattered sparely throughout the grasslands and wide-rooted Mangroves growing along much of the sunken coast between Marius and Navrigole. However, supplies have never been entirely reliable. In a bid to change this, the Grenoll decide that perhaps they should grow their own to ensure a constant supply of known quantity. Across the grasslands south-east of Theguis and east of Navrigole the Grenoll dig channels and plant saplings, starting their own managed forestries.

They wonder for a moment if they are kin to the Dwarves, the two looking very alike to Grenoll eyes. But the strangers can speak in the Paraskina tongue, and so the Grenoll join them in conversation in their own attempts at the language.

> Lore: The Mother Below

The Mother Below is considered the primary deity of the Grenoll, and is the only one to receive official status, acknowledgement and recognition from the Grenoll nation. Worship of other deities and reverence of spirits is allowed, but with the Mother's acolytes running the nationwide network of Motherhouses that raise generations of Tadpoles to Grenollet and send them out to Squire, every Grenoll would start their life learning of the Mother and inducted into basic practices of reverence and songs of worship.

The Order of the Mother teaches that the Mother was here before their was a world, and curled the world around her to comfort and shelter as she slept. From below, she keeps watch over the world, her croaks sometimes rumbling through the world from the deeps in which she rests. All life, it is stated, was created by the mother; pouring out of her slumbering dreams to fill and populate every environment and area. Even other thinking races are believed by the Grenoll to be creations of the mother, direct or indirect; some having left the mother's embrace early to travel upward to the land before growing enough to think, others being changed and formed into thinking people from the Mother's creatures by lesser spirits she also dreamed into being.

The Grenoll, they believe, are the last-rising of the Mother's known children, those who stayed with her in the dank beneath for the longest, and learned the most of her truths before heading upward. Though they believe this, too, will not last; and someday the mother will again bring new, wiser children then they up to the crust of the world.

When a Grenoll dies amidst civilisation, it is the order of the Mother who will look after their passing, as they cared for their raising. They will lay the faithful beneath - beneath the earth, the sea, or beneath stone; their spirits to once against join the songs of the mother below, to fill and become part of her dreams.

Due to the ballistas reloading few Symbians would all to arrowfire, especially considering how thick their skin can be against any lighter arrowfire by Dwarven archers.

Much of the hunting and foraging equipment would prove unuseful in combat as they would get stuck in the wooden floorboards.

The pinning method proves useful on individual pairs but a few groups of multiple Symbians eventually form up, as protecting their pointers is vital.

After some fighting dwarves with a elevation advantage or who catch Symbians off guard learn to swing for the pointers, as a hairie without his pointer proves too reckless in his rage to be effective at fighting.

Dying the mid point of the battle on the opposite side of the symbian ship and in the water symbians can be seen swimming or rowing to shore in makeshift or in one of the two life boats the Symbian vessel had.

In the end the symbians ship is captured mostly in tact with all its supplies though some Symbians managed to escape to shore due to symbian vessels being designed to stay relatively near to the shore when not whaling.

Many Symbians, mostly those still in their pairs are capture and bound using up most of the Dwarven ship’s sturdy rope. The leader(s) of the Dwarven ship must now decide what to do with the symbians.

The symbians are delighted towards the grenolli food. As such meat is a much needed detour from the blubbery, chewy meat of mud whales and the though decent still unseasoned texture and flavours of the regular mammal meats they had consumed on the trip.

Some of the grenoll’s greatest living smiths have gained a great deal of new found precision when it comes to bronzeworking, this newfound bronze forging and smithing techniques should now spread naturally throughout the empire with great enthusiasm.

Most useful is the practice of adding minute quantities of lead to bronze, this adds a much needed corrosion and water resistance to the already hardy metal which makes it perfect for the moist empire of the grenoll.

The symbians return to their village after a few months of travel and living among the grenoll, sadly they do not think they have found the gods they are looking for since The Mother was the creator of the world and not stated to be the uplifted of their specific race(s). And since the grenoll acknowledge other gods this must mean that there are other gods who were the uplifters. The knowledge they gained will be used to inform the high priests so that they may integrate what they have learned into the theological battleground of the temple.

The new lands are added to the maps of the symbians with the coast being the most accurate. After some bouncing of contact between the Capital and the voyagers they decide to head further east, they first reach Vilocohi, and then end up coming into contact with a Dwarven patrol ship. But this time they have second hand experience from what they learned from the harpy flown survivors of the Dwarven attack in the far west, and so they ready their harpoons and use mirror signals to tell their other ships to hide in force behind an island so that they may come in and face this Dwarven ship if need be. They have also taken some mercenaries from Vilocochi to serve as emergency light bowmen and look outs.

They approach in a non threatening manner on one side of the Dwarven ship, ploying their oars so that they may try to talk with the Dwarven lookout.

They give friendly greetings, the deckmen seemingly acting casual in what looks like standard attire, though many harpoons and bowmen stand ready just incase.

Be they seagoing vessels or the numerous boats that ply the internal waterways of the Grenmarsh, aquatic transport is nearly always faster then attempting a journey overland. There is, however, a considered exception; the northern Grasslands. A journey from Golfregard to Lurgarde currently involves a sea-boat to Navrigole, a river-craft upriver to Soulamere, downriver to Lursuis, and upriver again to Lurgarde. Even with overland transport generally taking considerably longer then aquatic, the Grenoll reckon that in this instance the sheer distance involved in using the river system could make the journey by land quicker.

The Grenoll work on what their language terms a 'land-river', a road of sorts that will start at Navrigole and head north to Golfregard, then across the grasslands to Lurgarde and on to Theguis.

>Giant Scaled Wings
>Rediscover the lost secrets of the Conclave

In preparation for the possible return of their large, flightless, friend, the harpies on Bloodscale Peak begin assembling large sheets of wyvern-skin, scales, and feathers. Carefully attached together using pitch, these sheets would sit on the damaged sections between the beast's wing bones. With both scales and feathers, these new wings should hopefully last longer, be tougher, and still provide a sufficient amount of lift. Though the pitch still has issues in intense heat.

The Harpies would never know the people of the Conclave, not even their name would be survive the weathering of time. But their legacy in navigation and mathematics would carry on. In the ancient ruins, many interesting discoveries are found by the harpies, including: The abacus, advanced maps and cartography, small patches of overgrown herb gardens, a decent copper stockpile, well constructed waterways, and a large port full of decaying ships.
The abacus, once properly understood, sparks a new approach for many of the trading bands of harpies, and quickly aids them in number crunching. Similarly the mapping techniques, spread among the more dexterous of the harpies, jumpstarts the idea of more accurate navigation, not relying as heavily on guides that have flown in the area before.

And while the boats and port are largely ignored by the harpies, whom can't sail and have little interest in attempting to learn in the first place, the waterways are a different story. Many harpies start utilizing the well-constructed aqueducts that run from the mountains to the ruins as a series of birdbaths.

Now with increased frequency and with more angles of attack after the harpies had scouted out the surrounding lands.

The harpies start conducting more aggressive passes on caravans and normal civilians out of the city, with the intent to gain more spoils. Others do faster and shorter Boom and Zoom runs on the more armored and protected city guard, to reduce chances of retaliation while still doing significant physical or morale damage. With the aid of their improved weapons they can do more damage, and with their scale mail, are able to fend off glancing blows that would've been more serious in the past. Most bands also start assigning a harpy to act as overwatch, which keeps a lookout for jumping-scorpion riders and the shiny contingent that heralds the arrival of the storm-calling lady. Either of which causes the harpies to call off the attack, as the gains from fighting the thick-shelled scorpions isn't worth the risk, and the great deluges are still too much for the harpies to handle.
The Empire's citizens would also note that one particular band of harpies seems to hide in small dust storms, or call a small dust devil on their attack, in order to disorientate and distract the wyvern-blooded while the harpies strike from blind spots.

Fleeing Symbians are able to avoid harm as the dwarves focus on recovery and capture of those on the ships deck.
Bound Symbians are placed within a makeshift cell room on the top deck and guarded while non-injured crew board the foreign ship to examine and loot it. (Assuming its a simple primitive ship of little value) The foreign vessel is scuttled and its supplies loaded onto the dwarven ship. They would then return to Torzdezuk'gaz, spreading word of the encounter.
Some captured Symbians would later be sent to another ship and seen if they would cooperate and perhaps aid fisherdwarves at sea. Others are presented at an auction and sold to logging dwarves that hope to be able to use them for work. Should they be docile, they would assist in logging, and given a plot of land nearby dwarven loggers dug in hovels and allowed to construct their own dwelling as they do not appear to be underworld dwellers such as dwarves.
Naturally, dwarvish would be taught to them if possible.

Many of the bearfolk are small and black furred, easily destroyed by the superior Erab forces, but within their company are large brown bears, capable of swiping the head off an Erab with its mighty paw.
Bearfolk swarm the army, seeming to be winning until their numbers dwindle, evening out the strength of both forces. That is, until a heavy fog rolls forward onto the battlefield.
The fog is near impossible to navigate, but for the bearfolk, they are hardly hindered.
Using their strong noses and hearing, they are able to make their way through the blinding fog to maul the disoriented humans.

Being so close to the capital, multiple ships would be nearby, and due to their limited range of vision, keeping track of fellow dwarves patrolling alongside must be done rather close to one another.
One Daitaz'jotkag along with one Korgath'jotkag recieve the approaching vessel. While both ships are closed, the Korgath'jotkag wields two permanently open positions similar to the sightseers tower, with two ballistae on each, they would be aimed toward the foreigners.
Dwarves on the Korgath'jotkag's main tower holler at the foreign ship, but nothing can be understood.
The second ship would be slowly rowing towards the opposite side of the ship so the dwarves cover both sides.

The great beast is sighted once more, heading eastwards, it arrives at the frozen peak.
It's body blacked in soot, and feathered repairs seared from the heat in the west, though still able to fly, but not near as well as it could. It circles the mountain and eyes the harpies. Upon judging them for some time, it glides down onto the ruins once more, clearly expecting some response.
>>
Word spreads of foreign vessels at sea, prompting the dwarves to design new weapons to defend or attack specifically other watercraft.
Aside from simply boarding, the simplest solution is just to equip ships with larger, or improved ballistae and improved ammunition.
Bows can only be drawn so far, but using new designs, they are able to increase the power exponentially. By using bronze cranks, the bow is capable of being drawn to immense poundage and take up little space unlike alternative methods.
To prevent any return fire from whatever the enemy may wield, the machines are outfitted with shields, either made of wood or metal plates, or both, greatly reducing any possible damage to the user.
Along with this, they also create a simple variation of existing smaller ballistae that fires multiple projectiles at once, ideal for clearing decks of opposing crewmen.
These new weapons would spread to most large vessels in no particular standard, with some ships choosing either entirely one type of weapon, while others use all at once. The choice being up to the captain and crew of the vessel.
Some crossbow designs would also make use of crank designs.
>Ballista Upgrade

They would focus too on creating better bolt heads that may be more effective on wooden planks likely to be used on foreign ships. Some bolts are created to split wood and in ideal circumstances, certain bolt heads can split apart a plank of wood, but under average combat conditions against thick wood, multiple are needed, and to be directed at specific locations to create a hole to aid in sinking a ship. Likely unsuitable for future engagements, but still an option.
Designs are made against flesh as well. Using existing knowledge on how best to pierce flesh, learned from hunting prey at sea they are able to form brutal hooked heads similar to harpoons that much like harpoons, would be attached to a rope, but instead of anchoring to the ship, the rope is connected to a heavy weight, typically stone, that the gunner can toss off the ship to send the impaled foe overboard to drown should the foe be difficult to kill otherwise.
As for general use, large and wide bladed heads are made for piercing and slicing flesh as well as cutting rigging. Ballistae that fire multiple shots excel in using the bladed bolts, which would be fired into groups of crewmen to deal great damage and even dismember if struck well.
These bolt designs would translate well into Verdz'vairf also.

As the fog begins to grow, the Captain shouts a change of formation. Men lock together in circles, their shields becoming an impenetrable wall, while their spears point in all directions. Any beast that is heard approaching is shouted at in curses, inciting Ariru to strike them down. Using the combined oil from their supplies, one man at the centre of a circle douses strips of his own uniform, before attaching them to a spear and holding it high above the group. He hopes in this manner to call the other groups to his troop.
>>
>>3632869
Huffing and puffing is heard surrounding the men along with the thumps of large footsteps. Some even feel hot breath in their faces.
The bearfolk are smart enough to understand a full charge into the wall of spears is suicide, but some large brown bearfolk do attempt to break into the formation, though with little gain.

After some time of this, the bearfolk are heard leaving the soldiers; to the north.
The fog would fade soon after their apparent departure.
Erabs to the north would find the remaining bearfolk traveling up the road, while the soldiers behind may have trouble finding them through their trail of fog.

It would soon be found that pairs of symbians are inseparable and work well together, symbians who were captured by themselves would be found to suffer from bipolar, depressive and manic behaviours, which would result in all single Symbians being put down for their uncooperative behaviour.

Other symbians would be noted for their propensity to escape often when they have the chance, as most restraints that the dwarves can come up with prove useless outside of groups of Symbian wranglers to make sure the behemoths and the small one do not try escaping, though eventually a proper restraining method is found where pointers would be held at axe point by dwarves so that they can command their buddies and provide proper motivation towards cooperation to the behemoths.

Every single Symbian on top of the ship lifts up and hurls a harpoon, which is swiftly followed by more heavy bronze whaling harpoons.

They aim for the sighseer dwarve towers along with the areas where balistafire flows heaviest.

>Affix the new wings to the beast
>Map of the known world

>>3632832
As the Great-Winged-One returns he is met with many harpies coated in red scalemail, and resting in the open bowl beside he's traditional roosting location, is the assembled wings. The Tablet-wielding harpy is not there at the moment, apparently off to do something else, but the beast should gather that these new wings are for it. The harpies spend the next several days or weeks cleaning the beast, removing ruined pitch and feathers, and replacing its old tattered wings with the new ones. They also try to patch up some of the missing parts in its hide and add accent horns and scales for extra decoration.

With the help of the cartography tools acquired from the Isle of Waterways, the harpies begin the creation of the first map of the world. It takes multiple tries to not only master putting the ink onto parchment in the correct ways, but also to create a map that is useful for both Sky-Soarers and Land-Striders alike. Multiple variants are made, including highly stylized ones to show off national borders and capitals, natural landmarks and vistas, air channels and regional weather patterns, or rough coastal boundaries. These are all of course written in harpy, and are constantly updated as new skies are soared.
Image Related itself is just a rough idea of what I think the harpies have a visual on at the moment. Has some give and take on the edges, most likely.

The enclosed ships are pelted with harpoons, but to little effect, but the less protected sightseer on the lesser ship is struck.
The dwarves do little initially but the two battlements that fire upon the Symbians, but being less protected suffer losses.

Soon after the hurling of harpoons, after which what remains may be mostly expended, or if the Symbians cease hurling after the harpoons cannot do much to the hull of the ship, the dwarves on the larger ship open the hatches to reveal series of ballistae that begin firing into the crew of the Symbian vessel. The larger ship is able to close the hatches to prevent the enemy from firing upon them just as fast as they are opened; these hatches open seemingly randomly and are difficult to focus fire on.

Not only is it difficult to get the oil onto the ships, but it is even harder to light, though the large vessel manages to catch fire.

Dwarves in the tower of the larger ship soon notice approaching foreign vessels, and the captain signals to the smaller ship with a horn.
Both ships then soon begin to row away, eastwards, while the lesser ship remains enclosed, a replacement sightseer takes his place in the tower to guide the ship, and the greater vessel would continue ballistae fire at the enemy until out of range, though rowing speed is moderately decreased during that time.

For the most part, the harpies have largely overlooked the burrow-beasts that landed on the eastern shores and found residence in their mountains. The burrow-beasts had long since gone underneath the mountains, while the harpies soared above. Such that those above and those below lived in relative harmony without any major contested borders or interaction.

However, among the harpies, paranoia was a devious mistress. If the burrow-beasts could walk through the earth and stone, what would stop them from popping out right beneath the harpies' roosts and taking their eggs? While it had never been an issue historically, many harpies were less than thrilled to know that creatures scurried right underfoot. This unease was only amplified by the long-running conflict with the wyvern-blooded, whom still tried to settle one of their tallest peaks.

Such that, when the harpies had found the Isle of Waterways devoid of any organized group, they were relieved beyond measure that no other land-striders would dare try and scale their peaks and roosts. However, this dream was short lived, as soon after the dwarves made landfall again on their remote island. For the moment, it seemed as if the dwarves were only using the coastline as a place to replenish their goods and ships, before continuing east to parts unknown. But now it was clear that they had their eyes set on the mountains the harpies had already laid claim to. This would have to be put to a stop, or else the harpies doubted they'd ever be able to remove the dwarves once they settled into the hillside.

As the dwarven migrants approach the beginnings of the foothills, a few lone harpies land a respectable distance away, while others circle high above or eye the procession from the hills. The lead harpy stamps its talon on the ground, squawks, and ruffles its feathers; indicating as best as it can that these are their lands, and the dwarves should proceed no further. The dwarves are still permitted to hold the coast they own now, and the harpies will not try to trespass. One of the other landed harpies even offers a bag of conclave copper to sweeten the deal.

>>3633952
The harpies suggest to the Grenoll to perhaps increase their military presence on their shared mountains, and to better defend the Quarry. Or to perhaps build a better route/town through that hex to facilitate travel. If other passageways are opened through Bloodscale Ridge, maybe the wyvern-blooded will stop trying to climb their mountain. Or, if they don't pacify, it would allow Grenoll easier access into the northern deserts.

"We... were not expecting bones... *rattle*," the Captain pauses, more than a little shocked, "we do not come to spill blood *rattle*, though it appears none -could- be spilled if it were our intention, no, only to see the... beings... who surround our borders *rattle*. The Loxetra is a giant Salamander three meters in length and about one and a half high, with a semi-sprawling stance. They are found sparsely throughout the Grenmarsh, but are most common in the northern and western reaches where their adults can emerge from the swamplands to graze upon the Grasslands. They are an omnivorous species, even though their primary diet is a vegetarian one; and are fairly adapt at running from hunters and predators, which is why the Grenoll had never captured a living one. However, the Grenoll start to realise, the Loxetra are amphibian forms just like they are, and have their own tadpole stage. These Tadpoles prove far easier to capture then the flighty adults, and the Grenoll start raising Loxetra as mounts and beasts of burden. Finally Grenoll ploughs can be pulled by something other then Grenoll hands!

>Action 2:

And with the Loxetra, comes the cart and the cat-wheel. Grenoll carts end up usually being built semi-aquatically, with a boatlike fore-hill able to be pulled through marsh and grassland alike. Actual boats are still found to be significantly faster along the Grenoll river systems, but on the northern grassland roads the time for a journey ends up dramatically decreased.

>Land-Strider Harnesses

For a long while, the harpies have remained as nomadic, isolated bands or groups. Only coming into contact with one another on chance or poorly planned meetings. But now, there are talks to help consolidate the several thousand bands of harpies into large, centrally lead conclaves. This shift was first seen with the construction of Tisiphone, and the several different major bands that had worked together to fend off the Wyvern-blooded. Individuals with similar goals and complementing talents are actively scouted, both to improve the conclave and establish a sense of camaraderie. These Conclaves, while not replacing the bands in harpy society, offer a larger and more commanded force to deal with both internal and international affairs.
While they will be covered in a more Lore focused post later, the largest conclaves tend to focus on war, trade, egg-rearing, or for specialized regions of high importance.

Recently, the harpies have been actively transporting Land-Stridders across the skies, preferably alive. The main problem being the rather uncomfortable method they most hold on or be held. To resolve this, the harpies begin making and constructing Land-Strider Harnesses, which attach to a harpy transporter and hold aloft the Land-Strider and a safer and more comfortable manner than before. This improves the load transporter harpies can carry and how long they can fly, greatly improving cross country flights for their flightless friends.

Previously dwarves were unable to get a good look at harpies, only ever seeing them as blobs in the sky, likely being simple birds.
Highly interested as they make their presence known for the first time, and the offering of coin, the dwarves assume these to be highly intelligent creatures.
The leader among the dwarves offers the only thing of value he held on him, a flask of ale, an ancient dwarven symbol of peace-keeping. Unfortunately, the dwarves could not understand the gestures of the bird-men and carried about their business of traveling into the hills.

Dwarves, not ones to be outdone, begin construction of a new class of ship after word spreads of large foreign vessels.
Designed from the start to be used for warfare and imposing size.
With the size comes the natural decrease in speed, which would decrease the overall range of the vessel, however, with the size, they are able to carry increased cargo so they may last longer at sea, even achieving a greater range than ships before it. Additionally, upper decks may be outfitted with more oardwarves should it be desired to somewhat increase speed.
Notable new features are the ability to field much larger and numerous ballistae, more towers with improved defenses for the dwarves within but at the cost of only being able to use crossbows, and kegs of sand in the case of an oil fire.
>Klotkrigzar'jotkag

The dwarven ships managed to return to the capital, both in need of repairs and the larger suffering severe damage from fire.
News of such attacks are unacceptable to the dwarven lords, and so a small fleet is organized to secure the waters.
Consisting of primarily of Korgath'jotkag vessels and supported by smaller classes, they also bring with them the new class of ship for its maiden voyage and to be the flagship.

The Tablet-wielding harpy of the Bloodscale Conclave takes his personal flight wing on a secret mission, while the rest of the Conclave continues to harass and distract the wyvern-blooded forces across the districts of the Grand Palace. Opposite from the majority of fighting, the Tablet-wielding harpy lands near one of the many, many mass graves the harpies found on their scouting run of the CRE. It seems the people are a contentious sort, and don't have much respect for one another both in life and in death. With this idea in mind, the Tablet-wielder hopes to further divide and drain their enemies by bringing its own dead back for vengeance. Or at the very least to eat more of their food and stink up the joint. He sings the Hymn of the Phoenix, casting the ritual, and raises as many corpses at once as he can. His flight stand guard, with arms and armor. The moment the ritual is done, the band takes off and makes its way back to one of the staging grounds for the harpy raids.

Trade has been extremely beneficial for the harpies. Between goods, food, people, and news, the Bronzecrest Conclave has expanded its power and reputation amongst the harpies, and even among the Land-Striders. Its leader then comes up with the idea of expanding its presence into a more permanent infrastructure.
The harpies proposition the elders of Senori for permission to construct trading posts. These structures would be accessible both from the land and the skies. With an adjacent warehouse/marketplace to store outbound goods, and sell incoming ones. A mailbox would also be included, either for parchment mail, or to compose a song that a herald could deliver to waiting ears.

Largely discussed on discord, and I am extremely tired. Long and short of it:
The harpies make it quite clear to the dwarves, after realizing their gift of copper was misinterpreted, that they do not wish for anyone else to move into their mountains. As tensions rise, one more harpy lands and presents a piece of parchment to the head harpy and dwarven captain. It is a map of the island, and gesturing with one talon, the harpy points at the ruins the harpies had previously scoured clean. It mentions to the head harpy that the building interiors, waterways, and docks are largely useless to them, but possibly quite enticing to the burrow-beasts.
With the use of a quill and the parchment, the harpies draw and gesticulate to the dwarves that, while they are not wanted in the mountains, the harpies will lead them to the city of canals and docks.
>Harpies keep the mountains, the aquaducts, and can share the roofs of the city. Dwarves are allowed full use of the city streets, buildings, canals, and docks. Dwarves are also allowed to do what they please with the boats still in port.

Leaving those deceased to rise up alone, but some of those having risen early had seen the harpies and where they ventured. -

A small grouping of Korgath'jotkag are sent east to explore more of the land and sea, being resupplied by the newly acquired port.
Sighting coastline spreading further east that would appear to be dotted with unnatural formations. The ships would likely encounter the Erabs.
>Exploration

The ruins are adapted to dwarven specifications relatively easily, and the foreign vessels left in the port points out flaws and sparks innovation. These ships will be kept in their current state as the dwarves would continue to study them.

Previously dwarven ships had been increasing in size and strength, and range, but decreasing in speed, which was ignored as speed was mostly unneeded, but the dwarves now realize the folly of their designs. While their ships improve, enemy ships can simply be made to travel faster to outrun them, which is realized to be effortless in sailed ships. The ability to travel without strength of dwarves will solve an unnoticed flaw in the dwarven navy.
Many obstacles prevented the use of sails in the past due to surface sickness, but after consideration, the dwarves conclude a roofless ship is possible under the following conditions:
A crew be stationed on the top deck comprised of dwarves more acclimated to the surface such as loggers.
Wide brimmed hats be worn to reduce vision of the gray void above.
And finally the crew primarily made of loggers or other such surface dwellers, can be swapped out periodically to exchange duties and prevent too much exposure to the surface, or given extended time in the tavern.

Similar to the offer given to the Senori, the Bronzecrest Conclave requests permission from the Symbian chiefs to build harpy trading posts in their territory. As previously mentioned, they'd be for both storing and selling goods both inbound and outbound, as well as providing a place for international mail or transportation to be offered.
It'd provide a more centralized place for trade, and allow smaller groups or individuals to buy and sell things from foreign markets.

With the zombie army summoned to distract the northern guards, and an established pattern of raids occurring to the south, the harpies now deem this the perfect time to strike the center. The Bloodscale Conclave rallies itself and the harpies begin their largest push yet on the Grand Palace. They leave normal harpies and a small band of defending conclave members behind to safeguard Tisiphone, as well as the tablet-wielder. To cause even greater confusion and division amongst the enemy defenders, the Dustdevil harpies summon a low-blowing sand storm to scour the streets and alleyways of the surrounding city, making it harder to rally militia or defenders to the palace itself.

The rest all fly across the desert, skirting around or above Yi and the other ruined districts, and dive straight for the Grand Palace itself. Cautious of the rain-summoning witch, the harpies sortie in smaller bands; doing hit-and-run strikes across the palace walls and courtyards quickly and consecutively, but not enough to leave a majority of their forces near the surface at any given time.
Should the witch show herself, a band of particularly daring harpies plan to Bounce her from the skies, and kidnap her before she can cast her spell. Of course, with the angle they will be diving at, they will open to the witch's guard for a crucial moment before they can pull up and away back to safety.

It's time for the big push - thankfully, the Grenoll just managed to get their forward supply base in Cielgarde organised. Warriors and slingers of seven different military companies march in the shadow of the Harpy advance toward the Grand palace, bringing with them many carts of water-filled jars, and a number of carts on which Trebuchets have been stowed in case a longer siege is required. With their Great-Winged-Friend appearing to get anxious again, the harpies realize that it'd be far easier to see what was bugging their flightful friend if they were just able to talk with him.

Despite being in close proximity for quite a while now, it does not seem as though the beast has learned the harpy tongue. And other than a handful of bestial noises, it hasn't been much for talking either. But it does appear to be intelligent. While work can still be done to better communicate in the future, a mediary is reached for now. Using the hairs and fur of large beasts, a solid piece of wood, and charcoal or other dyes mixed with water, the harpies attempt to create a large pen for drawing images and words. Big enough that a harpy must balance the pen between both of its wings, it should be big enough for the Great-Winged-One to use uninhibited. Either attached to the beast's tale, wing, or held in its mouth, the harpies provide a bare wall of stone and a few pots of different colored ink for the Beast to share its thoughts with.
The harpies also show their current maps with the beast, to help it understand the wider shape of the world.

>>3644202
As the roof of the palace explodes outward the harpies all collectively glide or flap higher, away from immediate danger. The dust settles and to the harpies surprise a beast rises from the wreckage, soaring high into the skies to meet them. A Great-Flying-One? Like their friend on the mountain? The harpies are confused by this, unsure if this great beast was the one leading the similarly-scaled invaders; or if it had been held prisoner in said castle and was only now able to break free.
The harpies are more than happy to let the rioting Land-Striders bicker and fight each other for them. But with the rain-bringing witch no where to be seen, and this new unknown in the air with them, the harpies temporarily halt their assault. Many brace to begin mid-air manuvers, but as a whole they wait to see what the beast will do.

The earth begins to shake, imperceptible at first, but soon the very foundations of the world tremble. Mines in Kaltappi collapse, and many of the splendid towers of Isitu fell, in both countless lives are lost. Yet worse was to come; Black smoke billowed into the sky, darkening the clouds and hiding the face of Ariru from view. For three days and three nights in rained grey, water mingled with ash, which stained the skin. Crops in the fields were left standing, soon overrun with wild animals as neither man nor woman dared venture into the Irkalla (Hell) outside. Priests claimed this was a punishment for Harpatu's wickedness, Priestesses claimed it was the doing of creatures in the north. Penance from all was demanded, some whipped themselves bloody, others fasted, each person suffered for his sins.
In time the sky cleared, allowing for restoration to begin. The cave-ins were cleared, the dead burned. The rubble cleared, the dead buried. >EXTRA LORE

Verse 1 of the Songs of Kuppi, the Creation

In the beginning there was alone a spring in the high mountain, and all else was dark in chaos. Then from the roots of this mountain rose Ariru the Shining. In the waters of this spring He saw His brilliant reflection, His sister and wife, Kuppi. He offered His hand and pulled Her from the spring-waters. Kuppi began to walk in this world She now blessed, and seeing it dark in chaos She sang into being the plains and seas. But they were barren with the blessing of Kuppi alone and so She turned to Her brother and husband and asked Him to bless Her creations too. Ariru was glad to see Kuppi's work and smiled warmly across the plains and seas, where His light reached sprang up green shoots. In the waters came fourth fish of a thousand kinds, and the lands too filled with life.
The two of them walked together down from the mountain, following the spring-waters path. Along the way it split in twain, making a wide and fertile delta. Kuppi collected some mud from the shores of the sea, sculpting them into men and women. Ariru baked them for Her, and when they were hardened, He breathed life into them, and set them to build a shining city to honour their Father and Mother. Ariru had grown tired from His day imbuing the children, and asked Kuppi to look over them as He slept at Their home atop the mountain. She agreed, as long as He too would watch over Their children while She slept. He agreed and walked back along the river before resting.

With the growth of the realm and expansion of the navy, the range of controlled waters increases, both naturally and through edicts for patrols.
>Sea Expansion

Due to the reduction in size, new dwarven ships cannot stay at sea for extended periods of time with the lowered amount of supplies. However, their speed partly makes up for this in that they do not need to stay long at sea as they traverse at such a greater speed and do not overwork the crew and can afford to decrease rations. But as they would rarely ever be seen alone with their poor armament and defenses, they would in fact be forced for the most part, to be at sea for extended periods at the side of slower ships, but this is mostly self solving as the large vessels contain so many supplies that can be used to resupply the smaller craft.
These craft are mostly armed with larger ballistae and supplemented with crossbows.
A steady speed is achievable for the most part with favorable winds, but when combined with the many oars, the ship can traverse the waters at much higher speeds which the dwarves suspect should be able to catch up to anything else in the sea.
