/qst/ - Quests

You are a neonate Tzimisce vampire in the ancient times. How ancient? well, it starts off somewhere around 200 BC, with your sire being, what you suspect far older than so. You have had a few years of "second upbringing", where your sire taught you enough to go by, in slow, but wild steps. Cruel but fair, he has hardened you into what remants of a man you are; Still not truly damned into complete vampiric sociopathy, but the times you even feel faintly interested in the lifes of man are scant. Not much more than mere tools and feed now, even is sometimes useful. Your sire has taught you enough in the political landscape of the nearby other vampire lords, or Vovivodes, as they are called, to know which ones to fear, which ones can be relied upon, enemies and so forth, and you know well enough that you are still but a speck for them. Still, you have been able to serve your sire to good use, securing him some influence and wealth.

However, now it seems like your sire desires that you make something for yourself. He has sent you off to a nearby "village", if you can call it that. High up in the mountains, the shacks people live in are barely houses, and should barely be enough to keep you fed. Most likely you will have to supplement your blood intake on the forest lives, and that may also hurt the potential hunters in the village. Not to speak of what your living place is. While better than the shacks in the village, it can barely be called more than a stone cottage. Still, it's not all bad: The village is located in an important mountain pass, and while the trade here now is far and few, it could could be a good potential.

Choose a background; this will largely govern what your character is, and a character sheet will be supplied.

> Learned man: While this doesn't account for much in a modern sense, you have been taught in academics. It assumes a primary mental background, and you will have some skills related to it. It gives you good contacts to knowledge, and you have a good chance of being able to accquire specialized people.

> Hunter: Your familliarity with the wild is that of the rangers, and tracking, archery and the use of weapons are second nature to you. However, you cannot read. Still, the knowledge of animals could be of great use. Your physical traits will represent an upbringing largely in the woods.

> Ghoul-family: You have been raised in one of the revenant families, and hence, your knowledge of vampires and their powers are increased. You can count on that they have your back come the worst, and some favours can be called, after all, many of them desire to be vampires themselves one day. Still, a neonate as you shouldn't expect much. You can also read and do mathematics, but it's slow and and not your strong suit - yet.

>Will this be another doomed VTM Quest? Who's to say?

I'll see, but let's hope not!

A character sheet will come in next post. All dice rolls will be done "hidden" to speed things up.

As you arrive in your cottage, you decide the best course of action is to see what is there - to your horror, not much at all. A sturdy door, and good shutters, yes, but nothing in the sort of luxury at all. it smells a little damp, leading you to guess there is a cellar. After a few minutes of searching, you find a trapdoor to a earthy cellar. at least a good hiding place for sleep throughout the day, and perhaps something that could be dug out if you wished. Still, there is much to be desired, and it makes you sorta miss the comparative luxury of your master's keep.

Yet, one should not dwaddle. Things need to be done around here; the herd is very small, your cottage is unsafe, you have no ghouls to speak of. Still, some upsides can be seen. There is some potential for hunting in the forests, and given the hilly nature, perhaps some mining could be done. Hell, even trade is a possibillity.
(this quest will take place over longer periods of time, not so much day to day actions, even if they will happen.)

>scout after potential humans who could become ghouls
>prospect the area for excavation
>try to see if you could get that trade going
>practice your vampyric arts (this would require more blood than what is really available - this means the willagers will be weakened, and would take a good amount of time.

Over the course of a few weeks you scout out as much as the village as you can. There seem to be three people in particular that are interesting: One is a blacksmith He's not great, but he passes, and produces the tools and other metals the village needs. The other is the child of the village elder. She's young, but got a good grasp on things. Last there is a middle child from one of the families, late teens. Hunter, but disliked by his parents, and should he go missing, while it would be sad, the parents probably wouldn't care too much. He could probably stay as a more personal ghoul.

Either way, you would only have the resources to ghoul one of them; more would be taxing on the blood income, and would drain more of your time, and it's bad as it is.

>prospect the area for excavation
>5d10 4 int + 1 investigation

Over a longer period, you examine the grounds. while outlooks are grim at first, you finally find some luck. Iron ore is rich on one side of the of a cliff, not too far from the village, an hour walk at most. While some construction and tools would be needed for miners, let alone convincing someone to go there, it could be done.

>Announce to the village that some must work in the quarry. (manipulation + intimidation)

>>
>>3599972
Yeah, waiting before ghouling is wise for now.
>>
>>3599982
>>3599966

You decide against ghouling any of the villagers. Wile useful, it could be very straining, yes.

Instead you push onwards with the aspect of mining. While the village has nothing like a mayor, it is far too small, the closest is the village elder. A man in his mid 50's, at least. While you introduce yourself as a prospector, it is clear that he has already decided to belive that you are a vampire; who else would appear late in the evening, pale, and with such a cold attitude. Still, he doesn't seem to be outraged. Probably knows that staying quiet is his best chance here. Tales have been hear of people being flayed for disrespecting the vovivodes of the land. He says that he will see what can be done. after some time, it turns out that something has been assembled. A few people are working in the mine, and they have good enough tools, after some intimidation for the blacksmith, but also the promise that he would be repaid.

Still, winter seems to be approaching fast, and the excess metal stats to stockpile. Most of it is iron, but some other metals can be found. Perhaps something could be done with the rock, if a mason lived in the village.
The winter is cold and harsh, and little progress is made on the quarry: there isn't the tools to make it into a mine, nor the numbers. instead, you spend the winter fortifying your cottage some. You're not bothered by the cold, after all. A little toying with vissictude is also done, but nothing remakable. Still, it's honing a valuable skill.

Come the spring, the quarry begins to move again. Some issues remain, as you have no direct influence here, as you can not go out in the day. perhaps it would be wise to have someone to manage mortal affairs.

>ghoul one of the miners, for supervision.
>look into trade

While setting up trade isn't easy, the opportunity does arrive eventually. One of the passing by trades arrive, and you inform him of the deal. He seems reluctant at first, but after telling him about the potential of the metals, he seems confident. he says that tade could be done with one of the larger villages to the northwest would be interested. They have a shortage in metal. Trade would be slow, and not too profitable due to distance, but he himself doesn't seem to have it too good. he says that he can bring over supplies, and says that if the output would be inreased, it would be a far more lucurative deal.

>ask if he could see if someone/a couple of workers from outside the village could join him the next time he passes through. (yes/no)

still, the village seems glad that more food comes in. A few more seem to get on work with the quarry in the following weeks.

a couple of days later, a man arrives in the middle of the night at your cottage. You recognize him as one of your sire's ghouls, and he presents a letter, as well as a book. He seem unwilling to stay, and dissappears soon after.

The letter informs you why your sire has put you in this spot: You are to be the way some high-risk goods is smuggled in. apparently, he intends to bring something really dangerous in, in highest secrecy, to use against a rival, and when the time comes, he wishes for your help as well. he wishes that there should be enough with trade in the pass that it will bring no attention, and not enough trade that it would be a real conflict of interest. promises written that if it would be successful, a great deal of fortunes could go your way.

The book seems to be written in a language you do not understand. A lot of time would be put into understanding this with the knowledge that you have. However, you grasp the idea. It seems to be guides into body modifications.

The elder's daughter doesn't seem too keen on the prospect. Perhaps some intimidation could go a far way here, as she doesn't seem to respect the true rulers of the land. After all, perhaps she is to young to have seen what happens to those disobedient.

>let the trade flow naturally. by expanding the mine, this should be enough.

Last for today. getting tired. will be on tomorrow.

You tell the merchant that he could try to recruit a soul or two, if possible. you tell him that it could be profitable for both, in the long term. He doesn't seem to keen, but understands the implications. after all, it would be a good investment.

You try to expand the expand the trade through the pass. little luck is made, but you manage to get a letter to the southwestern town. a few weeks later you get something in return. some people would be interested, but they don't have too much of food to spare. instead, what they can offer is good lumber, already in planks. Perhaps a good deal, if you are to build a trade stop.

On that note, this would take a while. if people are gonna stay here overnight, it would need construction and people. [0/15} progress. (Expect 5 or so progress per 6 months.

If the mine is to be expanded, work here is needed. [0/25]

most of the village would be unable to pick up trades. perhaps one here or there, but most live of the land - food is scarce, and the winters cold. It's too much of a gamble. Perhaps help could be had here with more efficient farming system. this would take some time to figure out however, if you are to do it yourself. Perhaps you could find someone.

A mason does arrive. And he can just about process 2/3 of the rock.

Current village status:

Food 25/30
ore 3
stone 6

trade is done with the surplus ore for more food, total off 32/30. some stockpiles are good to have.

(these numbers are just a rough estimate of the current standings in the village. Timers are more important)

with the added number of people in the village, you notice how the overall mood has increased. lighter blood drain on each is most likely the cause.

Back for today. Only gonna do a few updates, one of my eyes hurt. might be getting sick or somethign, i dunno.

You assign that work is going to be done on setting up a trade stop - a place where both people can stay overnight, humbly, but at least it would be shelter, as well as trade what goods they have. The populace seem not all too keen at first, but begrudingly agree it would be good for trade. It's a big change we're forcing, with a lot of new people. But, money speaks. Getting stuff rolling could make people better off. Both the elder and his daughter agree, and soon you get some people working. You contact the other village, for some supplies, and this greatly aids. Processed wood is easier to work with, after all. The designs you've come up with are good, but nothing exceptional. [decent success]

You decide that you're gonna help the villagers by creating better farms. as it is now, you can tell that it doesn't grow too well. However, you don't really know what to do about it - nothing that you have been taught can help you here. However, you do know that learning is done by trying. So you set up some small fields outside your cottage. Sadly, you get no results here. more time would have to be spent, and with winter up soon, you fail to see how you could progress without outside help.
Some of the people that have been working on the trading post seem to be getting upset. While nothing concrete has really been promised them, they feel that they have been spending time for nothing. If nothing concrete is rewarded, some would leave, and work would be slower.

>Intimidate the workers (appearance + intimidation)

Our Three clan disciplines are
Auspex, Animalism and Vissictude

>Auspex:
Superhuman senses and, "insight. allows aura reading and etc at higher points, but now is only heightened senses.

>Animalism:
Connection to, and to some extent, control over animals, and the power to enrage wilderness in others. Currently we are limited to talking to animals, they don't have to obey us.

>Vissictude.
Fleshcrafting. Right now, we can do little more than change appearences. But with higher levels You could do full on sculpting like humans, animals or other vampires were made out of clay.

In addition, we can naturally learn the three physical disciplines., Fortitude, potence and celerity. Durability, strength and speed, respectively. This is due to our low generation (i.e, close to the ur-vampire)

You decide to let your garden project rest for now, while you have some ideas, you feel the lack of progress is halted by motivation, and other concerns. Instead, you put some work on practicing your flesh craft arts. While nothing groundbreaking is done, it is apparent that your skill has increased. In fact, you feel confident enough using your powers that you can smoothen out some of the flaws in your appearance. some symmetry, sharper brows, etc.
(appearance +1). You're certain that real progress could be made in improving your aptitude in a year or so.

>continue
>spend your own primary effort elsewhere

Come the new year, you are again greeted by your sire's ghoul. Much the same ordeal, however, the ghoul stays for a couple of days, in what you suspect is surveillance. Much as expected, really.

The letter states that the first object should be passing through in no less than two years. A crate, no larger than a couple of foot. however, it is of utmost importance that it remains in secrecy, both contents, and whoever is carrying it. they will come with food as a disguise.

You also get the feel that other things than your master's ghoul is watching. unnerving, to say the least, and if the precognition is correct, it would mean real trouble should the crate be revealed.

You continue on as usual, however the villagepeople are ordered to not investigate any food shipment passing through the village that are not for them. None seems to really mind - after all, you've not exactly set up toll or anything. Slight increases in trade is continiued, but nothing big - untill the completion of the trade station. Done by early summer, and as you've instructed people to tell that the trade stop is being made, it is not long until noticeable change is being seen. While saying trade is booming would be a straight-up lie, there is significant change. As for now, you take out some of the revenue as tax, after all, the station wouldn't be there without your influence. A lot of it go to repaing the workers who made the station. For now the ones crewing it are locals from the village. The food is underwhelming, but passable.

You also keep working on your vissictude. However, given your focus, nothing can really be made here. You study plants, how they work, try to replicate the same features, with the limited means you have. You work on animals, you work on yourself, and while your comprehension of how veins and arteries increase, along with your knowledge of plants - you feel that there is only so much you can do with the tools you have now. that is not to say that it is fruitless - only that what you dream for is far outside your grasp. Still - you feel as if you have increased proficiency in how veins work. This would improve your own blood system... if only you could reach that deep. with what you could do right now, impossible. However, you have seen what your sire can do, and once your powers advance some, you have good ideas in how to do improvements to yourself, or others.

Now that the trading station is set up, there is only the issue of the issue of management. and really, the daughter of the elder seems like the perfect choice. After speaking with her about the idea, she seems if not thrilled, rather pleasantly suprised. after all, she had gotten the impression that you didn't agree all to well, but this changes things. Not long after, you decide to ghoul her. This is a subtle, but clear power move, and you explain enough to her. She is told to lay low, and to not meddle with the food. not told why, but it is clear that it is important to you. After all, a ghoul does obey, near thoughtlessly. She grows rather fond of you, and this is a good thing. it seems as a push overall that would make the village tolerate your presence more.

>You now have a ghoul. this person is nearly zealously obedient, and feels bonded to you, no matter what. to keep this up, they have to be fed some blood occasionally, meaning you can not ghoul everyone. However, they are your eyes and mouth in the day, (or night) and can be molded into what we need.

>her name is Zora

However, all is not perfect. She could use some academic training. While she is a good speaker, she doesn't really have the competence to do the job. she would need arithmetic trading, and some knowledge of what things cost. You could do this yourself, or hire someone to teach her.

>teach her yourself (would cut into our own projects)
>get someone to teach her (would cost money)

You move on to study the works that you have been given. and this is a god damned mess. The main issue is that the book is written in a language that you have no idea what it is - neither your native tongue, Greek or latin. However, through deciphering, and assumptions, and using the illustrations, you begin to get something done. at least the earlier part. from what you understand, this book seems to be a puzzle, and a challenge, of a sorts. however with what you can get out of the earlier parts of the book, you do have some ideas of what to do - and after a few months of training, your begin to truly understand. The art of vissictude is neither a craft or academics, but something in between. your powers however, deepens, and soon enough, you feel that you can really start to get the hang of this.

>you have learned the second level of vissictude. This allows manipulation of flesh, organs, and everything in a creature's body - all but bone. This would be enough to deform someone massivly, or improve them - increasing musculature, or fusing people together, at least to some degree. Still, as a crafts, any complex idea - such as creating new organs, improving senses, etc would have to be researched first.

What do you do now?

>continiue with vissictude practice
>specialize in something (continiued work could be done in flesh-flowers, although, this is still far, far away.) (suggest)
>pick up the idea of better farms
>other

>can we make zora more intellegent with out fleshcrafting as it is? Improve bloodflow tland such things.

I dont think we have a lot of skills in tradeing unless we do qm? so im voting for:
>get someone to teach her hopfully a professional merchant.

>specialize in blood flowers. I want to export our blood wine at some point.

>>3605444
How about actually >pick up the idea of beyyer farms and see what vissictude we ca do with it. Practice on plants that way.

Well, imagine you can craft a person, as if they were clay. Not really easy to improve the wits of someone doing that. While yes, it could be done, it too would be beyond us. Imagine it as sculpting clay.

I wouldn't exactly say we have skill in trading, no. we are learned however. which goes a long way in these times.

>get someone to teach her hopefully a professional merchant.

You decide that the far easiest choice would be to simply get a tutor - that way you would have someone knowledgeable, loyal, and well known in the village. You offer one of the merchants to stay a while and teach Zora - in return for both money upfront, and perhaps more importantly to them, better deals in the village in the future, valuable for both of you. it's a considerable drain on resources, but Zora seems to pick up fairly quickly.

>Is there anything you want Zora to do in particular?

>Nothing. Manage the trade post to the best of her abillities.
>Try to get the town on your side further.
>other.

>pick up the idea of better farms

You decide to work on improving the farms for the common people, and while at first, you are stuck with the same, old problems as before, the work you have done so far with vicissitude inspires you. You know that increased blood-flow in a subject would improve them, and it gets you to think. to plants, they seem to get nourished by the earth, and water. and while you can't improve their roots directly - perhaps increasing water, and replacing earth would have the same effect? And it has - Compared to your old dugouts, the new foundation grows easily twice as good. You also try some experiments with stretching out blood vessels and attempts to connect them to plants, but it seems to be for naught. it doesn't heal and connect as it would to a creature. still, it grants you ideas. you continue these experiments. While not the intended effect, you have come up with something. By implanting someone with increased arteries, their explosive strength would be increased. However, it's not without flaws - it would mace lacerations more severe, and dangerous, and someone exerting themselves would most likely be hungry much faster - but the strength is undoubtedly there.

>Vissictude modification unlocked - dermal vascular improvements. As stated, the subject has increased strength, at a cost of worse bleeding from cuts. Keep in mind that the process is lengthy, and would take about a day (night), and the subject would most likely be horrified by you altering their body in such a way.

should we do anything with this knowledge?

>improve yourself
>improve Zora
>improve the miners.

One day, we get a note from Zora, telling us that one of the merchants has brought a sealed message for you. It appears to be another note from your sire. You're a bit surprised that it's not the ghoul, but then again, that could be suspicious. And who knows what control he has.
The note stays that he is pleased with the transfer.

He also tells you that it is soon time for offense against one of his enemies. Not directly, but upon one of the villages. he says that it should come as a fell swoop, a raid that would raze structures and fields, and murder on the weak, not annihilation, but rather to leave it ripe for the taking. He expects you to come in person, and to bring at least five ghouls, capable of fighting the enemy. He expects that at least half of them will perish. Still, you will be rewarded greatly should it be successful, and any captives you take you may keep.

>Number

>fewer than five. We cannot afford to lose that many.
>five. he gets what he asks for, nothing more.
>ten. We shall make him proud.
>other

where do we get these ghouls from?

>all from the village. Take those that will be missed the least.
>try to kidnap people from outside the village.
>dominate some animals. This would be harder to control, but not a such a taxing load.

This but kidnap 3 people from outside the village and 2 aninals. I do not want to put the mayors daughter under the line of fire

ok

We probably want to all of our ghuls to die in the assault anyway maybe aim so one of them survives
>>
>>3607124
This makes sense to a degree so I'm throwing my support behind it. Especially since animals can be pretty dangerous to people who don't know how to fight back against a well trained pack.
>>
>>3607154
>>3607186
This, although we could conciser increasing the numbers of animals up to (4-7) I doubt our sire would consider the animal ghouls to be on equal footing.

A pack of wolves or trained hounds?

I mean no reason not to take as many aninals we can grab so sure might as well go for it.

Could we possibly have a merchant pass by the targeted village and maybe tell us if they spot anything like fortifications it armed warriors.

Better yet, could we maybe ghoul a wolf or falcon and have them do a little spying for us?

Well, you're still expected to control your ghouls, may not be the easiest given animal ghouls, your limited training with animals, and the... simpleness of a animal, especially in fight or flight

You decide that the best course of action would be to get a mix of ghouls. Some people outside of the village - hunters in the forest, or some lone wanderer. While it takes some time, you manage to grab a pair of hunters. Unlucky souls - not really anything out of the ordinary. You're not sure if they're from your village or not, either way, they are not standout in any fashion. good at sneaking at least - for a human. quite fast, for a human. But you are not human, and they are such easy prey. At least they will carry your resilience now. while not tough like vampires, the fortitude discipline from your blood will give them strength.

To pad out the numbers, you fill the rest with animals of the forest. While quite harder than than humans, you manage to separate a pair of wolves. They are quite surprised as you grab their attention, and speak to them with your animalism powers. Not easily convinced to serve you, a show of strength is easy to convince them, and once fed your blood, they are obedient, loyal hounds.

You command the wolves to wait for you in the forest by sundown every night for now, and once you're deeper in the forest one night, you come across a brown bear. No massive beast, it is still an animal of at least a hundred and fifty kilos, and no sane man would fight one willingly, but to you, it is not a real challenge. with a bit of persuation, and your animalism powers, you can even get this might beast of the forest to their knees.

You keep up the routine with the bear in addition, and they meet with you, before going off on their own.

You instruct the humans to remain in the basement of your keep. for now, this is the best, and most secure location.

still... we could equip them with something more than their hunting bows. Perhaps some spears?

>make some wooden spears. If nothing else, they are easy to use, and they will kill with ease
>warp their flesh, and give them the musculature to crush and smash people with ease
>other

We spend the rest of our time with auto-surgery. thankfully, the process of vicissitude is simpler on yourself, and over the course of two days, we manage to increase our explosive strength - but any cut will bleed more.

Confident in your newfound strength, you ponder... should you increase your ghouls as well? you could at least give it to the two hunters, the animals would probably not be compliant with the surgical procedure, despite being ghouls. Given, it may give them some mental scars, being worked on that way.

Lastly, how do we train our ghouls? for now it looks like we we got three animals that will rush in and cause devastation, to their best degree, that you can barely control, and a pair of archers for ranged support.
>>
>>3611799
>warp their flesh, and give them the musculature to crush and smash people with ease
>Give them Dermal Vascular Improvements

I believe these two hunters are pretty expendable. This will give them quite a shock value in battle if nothing else, and give us an opportunity to practice our Vicissitude
>>
>>3611799
>>3611853
This exactly we dont care if they live or die. Better they die honestly
>>
>>3611853
I would say that if you do anything like that, their ability to use a bow would be largely nullified.
>>
>>3611890
Well who needs a bow when you can SMASH
>>
>>3611890
Well it takes strength to use a bow. Our improvements could possibly make them better marksman as long as we don't give them fat fingers or something.
>>
>>3611853
I agree with giving them the vicissitude upgrades since they are meatshields/attack dogs.
>>
>>3611918
Agreed. Try and make it so it is a mild enough increase as to make them slightly more powerful to be better archers. And generally more power than they were.
>>
>>3611799
Warp their flesh cosmetically to obscure where our ghouls come from. We want a deniable asset here. If they just look like the same persons who went missing close to us, this can be tracked to us. For fighting, just hand them some spears. If we happen to have hardened leather armor accessible, this might also help. Do not warp their flesh, this is much too obvious.
>>
>>3611918
>>3614658
>>3615275

The consensus seem to be upgrading them with dermal vasular improvements, so i will go with that.

While keeping them capable to use a bow and arrow, you decide that you must still increase their strength where possible. While terrible to be preformed, you have them implanted and operated on with increased vascular capacity, and at first it's a shocking experience. they feel so... strong. however, both of them seem rather terrified by the ordeal, and you can tell that they do not feel very good after this operation - the mental scarring of someone defiling your body is rather extreme, to be honest. Then again, it may not be too bad, considering that they are out to murder in cold blood.

You decide to refurbish their knives to makeshift spears - good in the case that they would come into close quarters combat.

There is not much time now, and you are up to decide what you're gonna do with the final nights before the battle.

>have the two hunters practice spear use
>Train your animal ghouls - perhaps you could come up with some strategy here (write in)
>try to get some makeshift leather armor, at least for yourself if nothing else.
>other

Also, is there something we should bring? other tools, etc. right now we would go in pretty standard - for example, all we have now is a quarterstaff for defense, in addition to our standard gear.

Try and get the bear and wolves to work together like their one pack. Watching each other’s backs and all.
I think we’d ratger have the animal ghouls survive compared to the human meat shields anyway
