Pain came to you, sudden like thousand kicks in your forehead all at once. It wasn't your first rough awakening and surely it wouldn't be the last, but this kind of thing, you couldn't get used to it, it always hurt like hell. You couldn't see where were you; your senses were still numb and slowly coming back together, you couldn't remember much either, whatever you did yesterday it must have been one hell of a night.

Your eyes started to adapt to the sunlight, painful sunlight, hitting against your dry eyes and exponentially augmenting your headache like one giant celestial fuck you. The shapes around you were still blurry and diffused but at least now you knew that your eyes still worked.

With a loud and painful rumble your stomach growled in a mixture of hunger and acidic indigestion, without being able to avoid it you belched and to your grateful surprised noticed that your senses of smell, taste and hearing were back, just in time to allow you to hear, smell and taste the acrid half digested food that rested on your stomach. Nothing like fresh vomit and a brain splitting headache to start the day.

You tried to move away, just a little to puke somewhere else but on yourself. But it was useless, you had been completely hogtied, with a single rope your wrists and ankles had been tied to your back in what looked to be some bondage foreplay. At least, from what you could feel by patting your body you were at least clothed. With a sigh you clasped your lips and awaited for the inevitable, when the puke ascended over your mouth you had no other choice but to hold it and forcefully send it back from where it came.

"H-hello?" You said with your vomit stained lips and barely audible raspy voice. "Is anyone there?"

By the time you ended your question your senses were completely back to you. You were inside of a flying plane, a ramshackle one at that, surely one built before the Great War and barely kept on a working condition thanks to countless of haphazard jury rigs. The plane was a civilian model, one that had been emptied of seats to make it as lightweight as possible. Next to you there were other bound people, around forty unlucky sods in total, most were humans like you but there were a few ghouls, some psykers and even a Super-Mutant. They all had explosive collars around them, and even if you couldn't see it you were sure that you weren't the exception. They all seemed to have been drugged like you as they were all peacefully sleeping for now.
>>
A door opened in front of you, from it came a chubby ghoulette wearing an old and grimy looking cream coloured two piece swimsuit and what clearly was a cheap brunette wig.

"Told you I heard someone speaking! One of them has awoken already!" Said with a voice that attempted to sound sweet but sounded like crystal chunks being blended.

"Then grab the Gene sequencer and start with it!" Answered a somewhat male sounding robotic voice from the pilot's cabin.

She blew a kiss at him and then searched around until she found a big boxy machine. Whatever was the machine's original purpose it had now been altered and twisted, it had several additional circuit boards, nixie tubes and several other electronic gizmos slapped to it and tied with colorful cables and a healthy dose of duct tape. She walked towards you swaying her hips in what looked like an attempt at gathering your attention. Now that she was up close you were able to see that her face was caked in cheap makeup and perfume. To be honest, she was even harder to look than regular ghouls.

"What are you...?"

Without letting you finish your sentence she then plucked a couple of pincers from the device and painfully put them on your tongue and left ear. The thing then came to life and started showing a cascade of green machine code as the different lights erratically turned on and off and the different faulty connections started spewing sparks. Whatever it was doing to you it was annoying and scary, the pincers were now vibrating with a soft electrical charge and slowly becoming warmer and warmer, and the one that was in your tongue kept giving you an stingy and metallic taste that honestly, didn't mixed well with your vomit traces.

"Oh don't worry sweetheart. This is just analyzing your DNA and other...stuff to know how valuable you are to us. We have to give you a price after in the slave markets after all. But don't worry, someone as cute as you will surely end getting a high value in the auctions~"

Not long after came a loud ding and the machine stopped.

"Well! According to this you are as healthy as a horse! Mmh, lucky you! The ones who don't pass the exam are thrown out to become shark chowder you know?"

With a wink she kissed your forehead and removed the clasps before grabbing a small notebook and a black pen.

"Alright! Gender?"

"Oh, no need to answer that hun. I know a stud when I see one." She says, patting and feeling your bound body.

"I was a nurse before the war...well, more of a masseuse really, one of the kind that gave happy endings. With handsome guys like you I would even go further~"

Despite being pear shaped and having visible love handles her fingers were surprisingly thin and boney, specially now that part of her skin had rotten and fallen off.

"C'mon, see this as your special prize for being the first one to wake up. Besides, it's not like that uppity toaster of a pilot is ever going to notice it." She cooed and whispered to your ear, giving you goosebumps, and not of the good kind.

Luckily for you others were slowly coming back to the waking world, any sense of privacy that you might have was now gone.

"Oh well, perhaps later, who knows, I might decide to go in and buy you for myself." She said as she playfully bit your ear lobe and gave a worryingly feral sounding growl.

"How should I call you, lover?"

"My name is Dillinger Rast."

She raised one of her hairless eyebrows in surprise.

"Sounds regal and foreign! Are you some kind of prince perhaps? You should know that despite what the myths say...I can still give birth! Other ghouls are barren but me, I'm special you know? Someone as special as me should perhaps be with someone as special as you~"

She had suddenly moved from being touchy and annoying to being completely asphyxiating and sexually harassing. There was a worrying undertone in her voice, she seemed to be desperate for a way out, perhaps she just wanted something else besides dealing with slaves and being participant in human misery.

"Fat chance..." You answered without ever thinking.

"W-WHAT! Is that an insult to my weight! Well you should know that I used to be the most gorgeous girl in my neighbourhood and that I had several married men lust after me and one of them even asked me to run away with him to Vegas. B-but then the bombs started falling, and so did my skin and my hair! I'm still beautiful damnit! If I don't exercise anymore is because my knees hurt!"

Alright, she didn't want a way out, she simply was plain out mad and with her head filled with Old World Blues.

She huffed and then raised her fist as if to punch you, but then changed her mind.

"Owww, I cannot be mad with a cutie like you. Let's just say that it was the drugs in your system the ones that were talking for you ok?"

She flipped some pages of his notebook and then seemed to find what she was searching for.

"Alright! Next step!"

>YOU ARE S.P.E.C.I.A.L!
>You have 33 points to distribute:

>Strength:
Strength determines a character's raw, physical power. It's an important Attribute for characters that prefer melee weapons or like to carry lots of gear for multiple occasions. Bashing in doors, lifting heavy objects, and breaking things all involve Strength. Strength also governs: The Athletics, Melee Weapons, and Unarmed Skills. The amount of Heavy Slots a character has (one Heavy Slot for each point of Strength you possess).

>Perception:
Actions involving awareness and senses. Noticing traps, identifying people, seeing in the distance, and penetrating disguises all involve Perception. Perception also governs: The Energy Weapons, Explosives, Investigation, and Lockpick Skills. Page 8 Helps determine a character's Defense Score (Character Level + Perception + Agility + Luck).

>Endurance:
Actions involving fortitude and health. Walking long distances, withstanding poison, disease, and radiation, standing through punishment, and resisting torture all involve Endurance. Endurance also governs: The Survival Skill. A character's starting number of Health Slots is equal to five plus one-half his Endurance Attribute (5 + 1/2 End), rounded up. The number of Cybernetic Implants a character can possess equals his Endurance Attribute.

>Charisma:
Actions involving charm, wit, and personality. Lying, seduction, diplomacy, begging for your life, and haggling with a merchant all involve Charisma. Charisma also governs: The Barter and Speech Skills.
>>
>>3571167
>Intelligence:
Actions involving knowledge and reasoning. Disarming traps, reading codes, researching, repairing things and sabotaging other things, and hacking computers all involve Intelligence. Intelligence also governs: The Medicine, Repair, and Science Skills. Characters have a number of Skill Points at 1st level equal to their Intelligence Attribute. Each level after first a character gains a number of Skill Points equal to two plus one-half their Intelligence Attribute (2 + 1/2 Int), rounded up.

>Agility:
Actions involving speed, reflexes, and precision. Sneaking around, throwing things, acrobatics, and avoiding traps all involve Agility. Agility also governs: The Guns, Pilot, and Sneak Skills. A character's Initiative equals his Agility Attribute. Helps determine a character's Defense Score (Character Level + Perception + Agility + Luck).

>Luck:
Actions involving how much the universe likes you. Playing the slots, getting to the train on time, choosing the right path in the dark, and flipping a coin all involve Luck. Luck doesn't govern any Skills, although by spending some Karma it might be able to turn a failure into success. Luck does influence: A character's chance of scoring a Critical Hit. Characters with a Luck of 5 or less only score Critical Hits on a roll of 10. The higher a character's Luck score, the more likely he is to score a Critical Hit (Luck 6-8: 9 or 10, Luck: 9-10: 8-10).
>>
I forgot to add:

>As before, you have ~30 minutes to make your choice, it might be more or less depending on the participation level.

Suddenly, a threatening voice boomed over the plane's radio. It was clear and loud enough to be heard even from your position.

"Unidentified vessel, you are flying over Enclave Airspace, change your vectors seven degrees to the east or we will open fire."

The pilot bent down to grab the communicator and answer, it was then that you noticed that it was indeed a robot, but a particular one, it was a heavily modified Protectron that lacked legs and was bolted to pilot's seat, it was one with the plane, and in a sense, you were inside of it.

"Fuck off you patriotic g-men, suck on my balls of steel and let me make you moan with my big and vibrating cathode tube. Please assume the position and remember! Numbness will subside in several minutes!!!"

You weren't in a plane, you were in a flying madhouse.

"Shit, its not like I need a reason to blast off muties and wastelanders." Was the answer from the other side of the line.

Only seconds later a guided missile passed by whistling. Suddenly the left engine violently exploded. The plane wasn't unable to sustain itself in the air anymore, crash landing was now inevitable. Even with its robotic piloting skills it couldn't save the plane and it started spiralling out of control. Since you weren't using a seat belt or any security measure at all you started bouncing all across the walls and so did the chubby ghoulette and all the other slaves who were now due for a rude awakening.

And then...darkness.

Deep, deep, deep. Even for one used to living in empty and obscure places like you, the darkness is palpable and oppressive. You are suddenly very aware of the how small you are. What do they say? That you are a gear in the machine? You've long been used to that, but you feel it again now. Deeper still. Phosphorescent slugs the size of ponies pulse in the darkness. Sunk ships, countless of skeletal corpses and radioactive barrels glint in their light. Almost too low to hear, a deep slow rhythm throbs. The heartbeat of some immense creature or a feature of the last bubbles of air moving leaving your lungs?
>>
>>3571297

Some of the slaves had awakened from the impact, a few ones like you were lucky enough to have their binds broken in the fall. Most were destined to sink into oblivion.

It was hard to say for how long you fell and how the hell you managed to survive but you ended floating back to the surface from the impact. The plane was half now sunken into the sea. The protectron was trapped upon his seat, it didn't took him long to short circuit and die. Around you there were several precious items like weapons sinking down upon the crystal clear waters. Close to you there was the psychotic sexual harasser ghoul, she was trapped under some debris and screaming her lungs out for help. She looked at you with fear on her eyes but in the end, the two of you knew that she was doomed, soon enough the entire plane sank down and dragged her down, but not before blowing you a kiss with what could have been her last breath.

Not everything sank, some of the debris floated, you quickly grabbed a plastic barrel and hold it for your life. You hold upon it with all your forces and became dragged by the currents. Impossible to say for how long you were like this and it could even have reached the entire week but ultimately the seas were merciful and a fishing tugboat ended finding and rescuing you.

Had it been good luck? Only time would say.

It was hard to say for how long you had been floating next to a plastic barrel like that, it could have been only a couple of days, but for you it felt like a lifetime.

The waters dragged you like a leaf in the wind. Several times your hands almost slipped or your arms faltered but still, you managed to hold into with your last remnants of strength.

Until now.

Your grip weakened and once more you dozed off into the emerald radioactive waters of the pacific ocean.

In this instant you felt like a complete fool. You had risked everything to travel from the mainland to Hawaii and now, you would die even before reaching the shore. Your great great great great great grandparents managed to survive the Great War outside of a Vault. Your entire lineage was defined by its smarts and survival skill and you, by dying before doing anything remarkable of having offspring, you were just spitting into all they worked into. All these years of enduring and surviving, of sacrifice and hard labour for nothing, the Rast family name would die with you.

Living in the wasteland had given you a fair share of hard to believe experiences but even you were sceptical and unsure of if ghosts and the supernatural were real, still, you felt as if your ancestors were judging you, feeling shame.

You tried to move but nothing but unbearably painful cramps came from your bones and muscles. A mixture of blood a bubbles started to escape from your nose and mouth, you were completely done.

Above lied the sun, calling for you with its warmth and its hope bringing light. Under you lied a blanket of cold darkness, and under that, Hell. The war had sunk thousands of nuclear warships and submarines onto the seafloor. Countless of radioactive hotspots lied down there along with creatures that were fearsome and nightmare inducing even before the war mutated them. Hopefully, you would drown before some two headed shark or giant mirelurk decided to use you as an appetiser.

Slowly, the sun became bigger and bigger. Its white light surrounding the dark waters and engulfing you in a hug. Was this death? Did you perhaps die and is this the tunnel with light thing that some people with near death experiences have mentioned to witness?

No.

An old tugboat had caught you with its fishing nest and dragged you out into the surface. You were so exhausted that you didn't even feel it pulling you up. You smiled and winked at the cloudy sky. If your ancestors were really there looking up for you then it meant that they had deemed you worthy. You would make them proud. And with that thought in your head, you finally fell asleep.
>>
>>3572624

The fishermen took you towards their dormitories where you slept like a newborn. When you recovered you slowly arose from your slumber incredibly hungry and thirsty. Between being drugged and kidnapped, becoming a castaway for who knows how long and this exhaustion induced nap you might have spent almost an entire week without any clean water or food.

An old ghoul sat next to you with a steamy cup of soup. He wore a captain's hat and some old clothes decorated with medals of several types, most of them being too damaged to read or clearly made from cloth and nuka cola bottlecaps. He was peacefully reading some old novella while smoking from a pipe made from rotten wood that was nearly completely encrusted with salt. When he noticed that you woke up he gladly gave you the soup. It was thick and dark, with a rich smelling steam coming out of it and pieces of what seemed like tatos and fish floating.

"Name's Saltgut, seems like you had a rough day eh champ?" He said with a voice that sounded like someone who was gurgling a mixture of spit and chewing tobacco.

Sorry guys, had to run some errands, writing now.
>>

>"Where am I?"

"Oh." He said patiently, closing his book and giving you indications to start the soup.

"About a hundred miles from the southeast coast of O’ahu. Fishes aren't very irradiated around these waters. This is a pretty safe area, there haven't been many encounters with sha-manos, gillfolk or ghoul whales under my watch. And that's how I like it."

>”Who are you?”

"Told ya already. Are you dead or dumb? Everybody knows me as Saltgut. I'm always licking this salty pipe, I don't even smoke it, thus the name. And who might you be?"

"I am Dillinger Rast. Nice to meet you. Thanks."

"No problem kid." He said with a sweet smile that lacked most teeth.

"And yeah, I had a pretty rough day. I'm glad you were able to find me."

"It was no luck kid. You are jinxed I think. The only reason we found you was because of this."

He then pointed at your explosive collar. It was now rusty and drenched in salt water, but it was still on, you could feel its internal machinery softly beeping.

"These collars interfere with our sonar. You weren't the first one that we fished, but you were the first one who was alive... and sane."

"What do you mean?" You ask raising an eyebrow.

"We managed to haul some metal chunks that had a feral girl inside, she was completely gone, hell she even attempted to attack me and most of the times ghouls don't harm other ghouls."

"She wasn't feral when I meet her." You said kind of sad.

"Yeah, trauma can do that to you... Well, it's a good thing we found her and turned her into bait."

"What!? You killed her??"

"Yeah." He answered calmly. "She was dangerous for the crew, if I sent her back to the sea she might sink into the bottom and never truly drown. The radiation down there is enough to keep ghouls alive, but its a life without any sunlight, air or food. I wouldn't wish it to my worst enemy. We tied her down and chopped her neck with a swift and clean slash. It was as merciful as it can get really. And then we returned her spirit to the sea. Don't be mad, it's poetic in its own way."

>"Can you help me remove the explosive collar?"

>"You mentioned Sha-Manos, Gillfolk and Ghoul Whales, what are those?"

"You truly are new here. Sha-manos are mutated sharks. They are several times bigger and more vicious than their pre-war counterparts and are known to be able to devour a whole person in one bite. They are so big that there are even combat knives made from their teeth, they are pretty expensive but a helluva conversation starter. Due to their big sizes and mutated DNA they might suddenly die from an explosive heart attack thought."

"Explosive heart attack?" You said incredulously.

"Yeah! I've seen it! They get so angry and excited that their hearts literally explode. If you are ever followed by a group of 'em consider yourself lucky if that happens because then the other Sha-Manos will cannibalise it and give you a chance of escaping."

He moved the salt encrusted pipe across his toothless gums and nodded passionately.

"Bound Sha-Manos are worse in my opinion."

"If they are bound, how can they be worse?"

"Bound yes, but not imprisoned. Bound Sha-manos are the result of someone killing a pregnant one and taking the stillborns for themselves. These lil fuckers can be raised to maturity but will never grow as big as if naturally birthed. Most of the people who do this are pirates or tribesmen, they also add several chains and metal straps to keep them in a constant state of pain. They are used as a way of defending a position or attacking smaller ships, there are even tales about Bound Sha-Manos that had Mini-Nukes and Frag Mines strapped to them and were used to sink submarines. Nasty stuff I can tell ya."

"Wow... I've heard of suicider Super-Mutants but this...jeez." You replied trying not to make a mental image of a gigantic kamikaze shark.
>>
>>3573037
"Then there are the Gillfolk. Name's kinda descriptive. People with gills and strange looks. They live underwater and lackt have fish bottoms but their toes are webbed and they cannot stay for long in the surface. They are super secretive of where they hail from and most encounters with them have been violent. It is considered a bad omen to see one swimming under the moonlight. They are not wild thought, they can speak like you or I and have been known to use modern tech and attempt to infiltrate towns and villages. If you see one do not listen to them. Nothing good but fish comes out of this sea and they aren't fish."

"Yeah, right, perhaps you have read too many Grognak comics."

"Your funeral kid." He said shrugging, his old bones cracking with each movement.

"And the Ghoul Whales, are they real too?"

"Eh, I'm with you on that one. Some people have mentioned seeing them, even in places as far the Commonwealth. Never seen one meself."

"Well, thanks for letting me know in the friendly marine fauna of Hawaii. Now that I'm in a ship I feel way way safer." You say with as much friendly sarcasm as you can.

"That's the spirit kid!"

"Well, if I don't remove this collar I will truly become a spirit. Is there anything you can do about it?"

He laughed and then cleaned a tear from his eyes.

"No."
>>
>>3572885
>"Can you help me remove the explosive collar?"
>>
>>3573039
"Nothing at all?"

"Look kid. We don't know the yield of that thing. None of my crew dared to take it off from you and I'm brave, but not stupid. We have turned off most of the ship's electronics to avoid any signal interference or whatever that might make it go boom. If it explodes and damages our hull this old girl will go down and drag us with herself. And as you now know there are many nasty things under the waters."

"So... my only option is to continue with my life and pray for this shit to never explode?"

"You could do that, or...you could work for me for a week and get enough caps to travel to Lana’i and have some Son of Kanaloa gearhead look it up for you."

"The what now?" You answered nervously, the salt from the collar turning your neck skin sore and red and making you panic even more.

"They are the biggest mercantile group in Hawaii. They own the entire island and use its volcano to power their forges and factories. They make everything, everything! From knives to airplanes. Hell I have a contract with them that forces me to give them 60% of what I earn in exchange of being able to use their dry docks and refuelling stations."

"Kinda sound like some caravan groups that I've worked with."

"No kid, you don't truly understand the scale of it. You were going to be a slave for them. They have to import slaves!! They worship money and sell to anybody willing to pay, even raiders or Super-Mutants. They make more than 90% of the tech that can be found in the Hawaiian wastes and they keep the best for themselves. They have an army of soldiers and prospectors that scourge the pre-war ruins in the search of anything useful."

"Well, they are weird in that sense. To them a person is a being or a good depending on the situation. You were going to be sold and whoever captured you surely had a contract or whatever. But now that contract is in the bottom of the ocean and is thus void. They are so square minded and profit driven that they might release you in exchange of some caps."

"Guess it's worth a shot."

"It's true man."

You smiled at him and started drinking the soup, feeling much better afterwards.

"Oh by the way, the net caught several things from the plane. Most are in a pretty bad condition but you can get some."

You rummage across the bag of junk that the fishermen had managed to gather from the crash site. Most of the items are too damaged or rusted to be of any real use and sadly, no matter how hard you search, you don't find any of your old belongings and decide to keep instead an old salt covered Laser Pistol, some old army clothes with their camouflage pattern mostly faded out and the areas round the shoulders, knees and shins filled with sturdy padding and a half melted yet surprisingly durable Geiger Counter.

"Nice choices." Saltgut added as he then looked around in the search of anything of use. He grabbed some wet cloth rags and some loose bolts and screws and then left the bag away.

"We find all kind of junk in the sea. Sometimes floating like with you, in other occasions in the stomachs of the fish we catch. Then at the end of the shift we gather, pool all together and decide what we keep and what we throw, we can't take everything we find, this old lady is strong but not that strong you know what I mean?"

You nodded and attempted to stand up, perhaps it was time to meet the rest of the crew after all.

"Wow, hold up buckaroo. Are you sure you are fine to walk and move? You just woke up from a crash landing."

Your body was still sore and your muscles were painfully strained with every movement but still, you could move and to be honest, you had been tied and bound, then forced to drag a barrel and then bedridden. You were really aching to move and stretch your legs.

"Yeah, a walk will do me good. Fresh air has never killed anyone."

"Let's hope you are right!" He answered with a smile all the while lending you a hand.

The ship you were in was old, even by Pre-War standards. It was a fishing tugboat, bigger inside than most people believed and sturdy as hell, it had survived the Great War and two centuries of use after all. Most of the walls had their original paint chipped away and some areas had been patched with junk metal and wood boards. Above most ceilings hanged several pipes, most of them leaking water and fixed with cloth or duct tape. The entire area had been decorated with posters, paintings, flags, colorful lights or even sea shells, it helped turning an otherwise depressing and bleak looking ship into something homely and cozy.

Not long after leaving your room you found a small girl hammering a Nuka Cola vending machine, several bolts held in her lips and a flame spewing blowtorch at the ready next to her. The tinkerer was short and fit, she was covered in soot, grime, oil and a fine layer of sweat drops that stained her way too big coveralls and the many exposed areas of tanned skin that the outfit didn't cover. She smelled like cheap diesel and seemed to be frustrated at whatever mechanical problem she was dealing with.

"Hey there." You introduced yourself. "Mind if I lend a hand?"

"Uh? Yeah sure. But good luck thought with this piece of crap. The engine is in working condition and it makes one helluva noise, damn thing keeps me awake but the thing is that it doesn't cools food or drinks, so, its useless really. If I don't repair this by today we will have to throw away some of our supplies."

She was younger than you, about twelve years old. The girl had polynesian features on her face and despite being very tanned two worrisome dark bags rested under her face, making her look extremely sleep deprived.

You looked around and started checking on the different parts and pieces. Many were not original and others had been substituted or repaired with whatever was at hand at the time. It wasn't surprising that it didn't worked. Luckily you were pretty handy knew how to make the most of what you had at your disposal.

>Critical success.

You get to work and start pulling cables, exchanging up melted fuses and adding a healthy dose of duct tape into the tubes. Sparks fly, the ball hammer smashes and the whistling noise of the blowtorch gathers the people's attention.

Soon a few crewmen, including Saltgut the captain, started surrounding you and looking with a mixture of fear and curiosity. All except the tinkerer girl kept a safe distance, she was so close to you that you could even feel her excited breathing as you worked and did your magic.

If her story was true then the fridge kept her awake at night, both because of how noisy it was but also because she was under an incredible pressure to fix it to avoid having to throw several pounds of fish overboard.

"H-hey kid, we still haven't thrown out the junk we found today, would looking into it help you." Added Saltgut.

You were so focused that it took you a couple of seconds to understand and process what he said.

"Oh..oh! Yeah sure!"

You looked in the bag and what before seemed like a pile of trash now felt like best thing that happened to you. From the bag you grabbed a Wattz Electronics Fission battery that still seemed in a working condition and a couple of unused cryo cells filled with liquid nitrogen. Soon, a torrent of ideas and theories started coming to you, if this worked out then you wouldn't only fix the fridge, but overcharge it.

A small hand cleaning the sweat from your brow brought you back to reality. It was the small girl, who now looked at you with admiration and excitation. You smiled at her and gave her the different pieces and tools, asking for them when they were needed and even asking for her help to weld, bolt or install when it was necessary.

When you were done she was overjoyed and softly hopping and tapping her feet.

"Ready?"

You said grabbing her work calloused hand and guiding it towards the activation switch.

"R-ready!" She answered kind of flustered.

With a simple movement the thing not only came back to life but also became surprisingly quiet and spread cold air around it, acting like an air conditioner of some sorts. It was a winning situation in all possible aspects.

Afterwards came several cheers and pats both for you and the girl. The others quickly started to move their stale beers, drinks and freshest foods towards the fridge.

"Cold and with food nearby. Well, seems like this will become the new hanging spot." Said the captain as he contributed with some stout ale of his own. "I'm proud of you kid!"

An odd looking guy then moved a chair around and sit on it with a guitar on his lap. The others cheered at him too and started gathering.

"Welcome to our small group of misfish. We are misfits that fish for a living... well the name is still being worked on. I'm Seabreeze, that little oilstained runt is Kahuna, you've already meet Saltgut. The others are Rickard, Shang and Aurore."

The different guys and girls saluted you, each in its own way. They all had very different looks and each was unique in its own way.

"Nice to meet you all!" You said feeling welcome and safe for the first time in months.

Well, if we are going to exchange stories then we might as well add some more background to our dear Dillinger. He's an outsider, but where from exactly? The Mojave? NCR? Commonwealth? Capital Wasteland? Do you want me to keep it ambiguous or to add references to past games?

We might be able to become a member at some point or perhaps have belonged to some chapter in the past and know how they work and operate. If your discharge was disgraceful we might gain re-entry by doing some dangerous quest for them.

I'm going to warn you that we might also become Ghouls, Psykers or Mutants if we become too irradiated. And if that happens we will be kicked immediately.

Soon several pillows and carpets were gathered and a small circle was made. In the centre of it a bong and countless of drinks, chems and snacks were brought. Soon enough everybody was sitting in there, smoking god knows what kind of mutated seaweed, munching two centuries old food and laughing.

Seabreeze played the guitar and helped to create a fun and awesome ambience. At some point, you realised that your body didn't hurt anymore, and you were having so much fun that you didn't even noticed when this happened. He was a psyker, someone who mutated and gained strange powers, but also an strange appearance. His skin was covered in freckles but they were bioluminiscent and his long curly hair was of a blond-greenish hue. Without even giving it much importance he told you about how psykers are more common in Hawaii than in other parts of the USA and then started spouting some pre-war conspiracies about the project MK-Ultra or something of the like. He was a pretty laid back guy and always relaxed and easy going. He worked as the ship's chef but also helped fishing and doing chores here and there.

Kahuna was the girl of two factory workers from the Sons of Kanaloa. Her parents had several debts and they were forced to sell her into slavery to pay. The details get muddy afterwards, literally, Saltgut found her parents covered in blood and mud and drifting away in a small boat with their newborn baby in their arms and a small note explaining everything. Saltgut adopted her and never hid the truth from her. Still, she kinda considers the old Ghoul to be his father and the rest as family members.

Rickard had been a kid bullied into joining a raider gang because of his big size and strength. After his first kill he regretted it and decided to kill the other raiders and give the all his caps to the widow of the man he killed. Afterwards he ran away and was taken under Saltgut's care to work as a fisherman and general soldier. He has killed people afterwards, both with weapons and with his fists but everyone who have suffered his rage were completely deserving.

Shang's a quiet person. Speaks and understands english but prefers mandarin for virtually everything, from music to books. He's saving money and hopes to be able to buy a ship of his own one day, a ship sturdy and powerful enough to reach China where he plans to deliver the ashes of his parents. His skill with the blade is hard to match and he is the one who chops and fillets the captured fish to be later stored and sold.
>>
>>3574480

Aurore was a Miss Nanny robot, she had been bought by Saltgut to keep an eye, or in her case three, and take care of Kahuna while he steered the ship or dealt with merchants. She had several finger paintings on her chassis, things that the little girl had painted over the years. It was quite endearing to see. She acted like the mother of the group and scolded them all if they misbehaved, not even the captain was exempt from her behaviour rules. She also acted like the ship's nurse and from time to time helped Shang cutting fish or Seabreeze cooking with her in built flamethrower.

"Alright alright, what if I tell you all the story of the protein bars?" Said Saltgut.

"What, no way, you have told that one a million times and its disgusting as hell!" Replied Kahuna

"That's the fun of it!" Yelled back Seabreeze.

Hey QM, are the Followers of the Apocalypse in your plans? Loved the faction in NV, but they failed to do anything deserving with them.
(I'd like Dillinger to be one of them, but I suppose the BoS backstory makes sense enough, though I do not like them.)
>>
>>3574496
>Hey QM, are the Followers of the Apocalypse in your plans?
No sorry. If I remember correctly they were kinda poor so I doubt they could make it all the way to Hawaii.

Only two factions from the american mainland will appear: The BoS and the Enclave. And both will be kinda smallish here.

There are going to be 3 big factions and of these so far only the Sons of Kanaloa have been mentioned.
>>
Sorry guys. Something came up. Writing now.
>>
>>3574503
Hey QM, I was wondering why you're wording everything in the past tense. Is this because Dillinger is recalling this from memory? Or is it just the way you want to word the quest? I say this because it felt weird to me for the quest decisions to have different conjugations from the results.
>>
>>3574568
Problem is. English is my third language. I know how to write and how to avoid typos, but I sometimes write in past tense and I don't even notice it. Sorry, I will try to put it all in present tense.
>>
>>3574570
Now that I think about it I think I will stick to past tense. It feels more natural to me. Sorry if you guys were confused because of that.

>Let the Captain tell his story.

"A story for a story, its only fair. Tell me about the protein bars and I'll tell you how I killed a Mole Rat matriarch with nothing but a lighter."

The people around seem interested and agree. Saltgut cracks his knuckles and neck and then smiles at the group.

"Well well well, this story happened many moons ago. When the radiation had barely dissipated and humans born before the Great War still roamed the islands."

"So, about a gazillion years ago?" Kahuna jokingly adds.

"Little lady! You know very well that your father is not that old! He's only 273 years old!" Replied the Miss Nanny.

"Anyway, this is the story of how I managed to earn Rustbucket, this ship! Before I became a sea captain I was a prospector, I searched pre-war ruins for anything valuable. It was a good job, not a very rewarding one but at least you didn't responded to anybody and the work hours were flexible. So... I don't remember in what city or island this happened but the fact is that I found an old factory. It was untouched by the hand of man but nature had reclaimed it. I cut my way open to the interior and found an empty place full of boxes, machinery and a sweet taste in the air. It was a candy bar factory!"

"Candy!" screams Rickard.

"The place had been collecting dust for decades. it was filled with sugar and other ingredients and the machines seemed to still be in a working condition. I busted my ass to power them and then after punching the keyboard of a terminal I somehow managed my way into the system."

He smiles nostalgically.

"I was ecstatic. To me that had been the discovery of the century! I could make candy and sell it to nearby settlements and gain caps! The place was filled with enough ingredients to have lasted for a decade!"

"Here comes the good part." Adds Seabreeze.

"Well, the place was damp, cold, dark and filled with sugar. It was the biggest Radroach nest that I've ever seen and I didn't even knew it. Most of the bugs were in the lower levels attempting to breach into the sealed containers to gorge on sugar. When I activated the machines a series of pulleys, transportation lines and mechanical arms started grabbing these boxes and dumping their loads into a gigantic machine. I was crying from happiness as I saw the first chocolate and toffee bars come out. But then... the bugs came from below.... thousands and thousands of radroaches, some brown like a turd, others glowing green from radiation. And what did they do, well, what their little brains asked them to do, go into the sugar, and were did the sugar go? Into the machine, so, the bugs started flooding the machine! I mean...you just had to see it. Cockroach comes in and candy comes out, you cant explain that!"

"You can't turn a bug into candy!" You add kind of tipsy.

"Exactly! These bars looked delicious but they were filled with roach guts!"
>>
>>3574621
The entire group laughed at his misery, he was the one who was laughing the most.

"And I couldn't stop the machines because if I did then the fucking bugs would have attacked me!"

"So...how is that related to this ship?"

"Oh, oh yeah. So the Sons of Kanaloa were still a small group by that time. They had only a small fleet of ships and were looking for factories to reactivate or strip apart. When they found me they were flabbergasted but...managed to think of a way of taking advantage of the situation. The bars weren't all that bad tasting and were surprisingly filling and devoid of radiation, so...they decided to sell these as travelling rations for caravans and cheap food for the poor folk and ended giving me a ship in exchange of keeping quiet."

"Which you didn't. You must have told this story a thousand times." Quietly added Shang.

"True true. But who cares. They still make these protein bars and it's what they use to feed their slaves. Even if the truth came to light nobody would do anything, the Sons are too powerful now... I should have asked for a better ship."

>Tell a story of your own.

"Well, thanks for the story, if I ever see one I wont eat it." You add.

"Tell us your story!" Screams a drunk and high Kahuna.

"Well, this happened in the Salt Lake area. I had been contracted to end a mole rat nest that was messing with travellers and crops. The rats were also building tunnels and the locals were worried about them creating sinkholes or tremors. So me and other guys went into the cave armed with all kind of weapons, one loony even brought C4 in case we needed to create an exit. So I don't remember the names or faces of the others and it was all very confusing, I remember thinking to myself "Did I drink or smoke something weird?" But...no. I was sober, but not healthy. The place was a labyrinth that connected some natural caves with a system of sewers and maintenance tunnels and worst of all was that unknowingly to us the entire area was flooded with flammable and toxic gases. So each one of us ended getting poisoned and lost in there. By the time my head cleared I suddenly noticed that I was alone. From time to time I could hear gunshots and explosions, the molerats were too low to the ground to be affected by the gas and now that we were separated they were finishing us one by one. I ran and somehow ended inside a giant rocky chamber where a gigant mole rat rested, it was as big as city liner and the fucker seemed to be high as a kite from the gases, but was also big and strong enough to be unaffected by the harmful effects of the gas. So...."
>>
>>3574625

"So...?" Adds Saltgut, completely immersed in your story.

"I threw my ligther into the thing's face and it started to burn and burn. It's children came to her aid but all they managed to do was catch in flames too and they started to panic and run away, spreading the fires to gas filled tunnels. I ran and ran and somehow found a tunnel that lead into the exterior. I wasn't the only one who survived and the fires didn't ended reaching the town. The mountain thought... well it started to burn from its insides, several cracks opened on its walls and from these heat and light. It was...weird yet beautiful. It became a local attraction and as far as I know the fires keep going on. The place is now known as the Glowrock."

"Noice." Whispers a high Seabreeze.

Afterwards the rest and you continued exchanging stories, they were most interested in your tales as they didn't know much of the american mainland. At some point, you fall asleep, you don't know when, it doesn't matters.

You wake up naked, except your explosive collar of course. Somehow you ended in the crow's nest and now you are cold as heck. You don't know how you came to be in this place, the stairs to go up rusted away a long time ago. You look around and see Saltgut pissing from the deck.

"Morning Dillinger!" He screams after turning around and seeing you question what the hell happened yesterday.

"How do I get down?" You scream back.

"Carefully of course!" He replies while guffawing.

You roll your eyes and shiver. The sun has barely started scratching the edge of the horizon and a thick fog is surrounding the ship.

"We are sailing blind! Can you see any coastline or obstacle around us?"

>"Give me my clothes and some scope or anything, its cold here!" (Speech skill test)
>"Alright, I'll look around boss." (Investigation skill test)

Player rolled 6+6=12.
QM rolled 12+10= 22.
Failed skill. No exp gained.

You look around and see nothing but fog and from time to time some waves crashing against the ship and spirals of wind that twist the white blanketing mists.

"The fog is too thick!"

Saltgut nods and continues looking around, worried about hitting something or someone.

>"Give me my clothes and some scope or anything, its cold here!"
Player rolled 6+10=16.
QM rolled 6+10= 16.
Success. 100 exp gained.

"Alright, but you should know that cold is good for your skin."

The man goes back and returns after a while with your clothes, they have been just ironed so they are all warm. Putting them on feels glorious. He also returns with an old spyglass but its useless, nothing but fog as far as the eye can see.

>"I doubt my collar will interfere with the sonar and the sensors, bring me a rope and I will turn them back on for you.
Player rolled 11+10=21.
QM rolled 5+10= 15.
Critical success. 200 exp gained.

"Yeah, I trust you kid. After what happened yesterday with the freezer I believe whatever you say when it comes to tech."

He handles you an old rope and helps you go down. Then, searches for his personal key and guides you towards the captain's cabin, the small room where he lives and from where he steers this behemoth of a ship. The place is decorated with several old photos, mementos from his past adventures and he even has a projector playing old movies, the movies are not professional...they are videos that he recorded from his life before the Great War, the place feels like a museum dedicated to nostalgia. He seemed to have been very much in love with a woman and even have fathered some children. Poor man.

Yeah, you guys are screwed. Forgot to add the roll for the investigation skill test, it will be an easy skill test because the Captain's room is filled with junk so finding something useful won't be a problem, there won't be any modifiers.

OP rolled a 10 and we have 6 in the Investigation skill, making a total of 16. Since it is impossible for me to get more than 16 it is considered an automatic success. No need to roll.

Can we do a Call of Cthulu and push our dice roll?
>>
>>3574791
>Look around for any useful trash maybe a spare bobbypin or two. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
>Automatic success

The place is a mess, but a lovely mess at that. You look around and quickly find a few bobby pins and some junk items you might play or work with.

"Can I grab these?" You politely ask.

"Oh yeah, worry not. I meant to throw these anyway."

"Thanks!" You reply as you keep these in your pockets.

>Focus on the sensors and other navigational machinery, see if you can not only reactivate it but also repair or improve it. (Hard +10 repair Skill Test)
Player rolled 4+10=14.
QM rolled 8+10= 18.
Failure.

You are happy, you are excited. You came to Hawaii in the search of new adventures, this place was supposed to be paradise before the war and perhaps it was the closest thing to it after the bombs. Despite your rough arrival you now had found a tight knit group of nice people that well, could even be considered as friends. Helping them repair the freezer was what made you popular in the area, perhaps you could now gain the Captain's favor and trust by improving his navigational array.

Once more you got to work and started pulling away useless or burned out pieces, rerouting systems and jury rigging decrepit circuits with grace. Sadly, there was something very wrong in that system... Your geiger counter started to beep uncontrollably as soon as you opened a lower hatch. The whole thing was powered for centuries with a Nuclear Power Core and despite it still having enough charge the years of rust and salt drenched air had corroded its exterior coating, leaving the nuclear core dangerously exposed. It had been a miracle that it didn't exploded... turning it back on would send an energetic spike that the battery wouldn't be able to endure. Unless...

>Use some of the items that you found in the Captain's cabin. (+5 to repair)
Player rolled 4+10+5=19.
QM rolled 8+10= 18.
Success.
>500 exp Earned!
>Level up!
>1200/3000 to next level.

This is going to be by far your most dangerous repair, not only because you will have to work next to a nuclear core but also, because it won't be you the one who does it.

"Captain, bad news, the ships powered by a nuclear battery and it has been damaged. It leaks radiation. You are immune to it, I need you to do it following my instructions..."

"I...I..." He stutters. "I'm too old for this crap...What do I have to do?"

No. But you can decide to change your armor and take chems or booze before rolling to gain stats and increase your chances. Sometimes like before might be merciful and add a +5 like now.

>How much prepwork did you put into this quest beforehand? i.e. maps, plotlines, locations, npcs...
I have been working on Nukaloha for more than a year. This started as a project for a roleplaying forum but we couldnt find a suitable system and It was slowly abandoned. You can check It out here: http://fallout-nukaloha.forumotion.com/

I have all the lore written. All of It. If its not on the website It is stored somewhere in my computer.

I recently found a cool dice system and decided to test It here on /qst/. So far so good!

When we become more powerful and famous we might also create our own faction and start recruiting soldiers and workers.

I used to love it too. But back then /qst/ did not exist, I was both working and studying and since I live in Europe I was several hours ahead than most Americans.

The result was that I came home at around 8pm tired and had to bust my ass on the quest and run It for several hours, sometimes past midnight, because in those late hours was when the player base was the most active.

/tg/ was way faster than /qst/ so threads could only run for a day, two at most. It was taking a toll on me.

Right now Im on summer vacation so I have plenty of free time and when I return to work I will still be able to post periodic updates to this quest because qst is a slow board. This quest wont lose steam and wont leave me burned out.

Alright so we have levelled up!

>Choose were to distribute these points.

Also, I forgot to add. Our HP is equal to five plus half our endurance and rounded up. So we start with 7HP.

I've been working on a Google Drive document to keep it all clean and nice, you can check it out here!

>>
>>3576434
No perks?
>>
>>3576441
Perks will come after distributing skill points. There are two categories of perks, standard and racial perks.

>Standard perks can be gained by anyone, regardless of your race, they are the most numerous and common type of perk and most have no requirements.

>Racial perks are perks that can only be acquired by members of a particular race, be it humans, psykers, robots, ghouls or Super-Mutants. These perks can be upgraded up to three times and are pretty OP but if our character for whatever reason mutates into something else then it will lose them.
>>
>>3576447
Interesting, how do you change your race
>>
>>3576455
Ghoul by Radiation, Super-Mutant by FEV, Psyker by experimental Pre-War chems, Robot by transferring your mind to a robotic body.

But once you stop being human, there's no going back.

>Standard Perks:

>Racial Perks:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bDWe2DsgK5dr-WPCZx9wpKEAu7JyG-8biuiWqaOBrRM/edit?usp=sharing

Since there's a fuckload of perks I'll wait for a couple of hours to give you all enough time to read and think your choice, unless there's an agreement, if that happens I will go forward with it.
>>
I will change the way we calculate HP because I think its too low. I will use the Fallout 1 and 2 formula:

Hit Points = 15 + STR + (2x END)
HP = 15 + 3 +(2x3)
HP = 15+9
HP=24

And the HP gained with each level up will be: (END/2)+2

So (3/2)+2 = 4 if we round up.

24+4= 28

We now have 28HP

This is going to be by far your most dangerous repair, not only because you will have to work next to a nuclear core but also, because it won't be you the one who does it.

"Captain, bad news, the ships powered by a nuclear battery and it has been damaged. It leaks radiation. You are immune to it, I need you to do it following my instructions..."

"Just follow my orders, do as I say and nothing bad will happen."

"Boy, if we don't manage to screw this up do me a favor and shut up will ya? This ship is on it's about to kick the bucket, I doubt it will be able to sail for more than a couple of years. Last thing I need is panicking the crew and seeing them abandon in the next shore leave."

It surprised you how much he was trusting you with this, you nodded and agreed.

"Help me fix this and I'll make it worth your time." He added afterwards, both scared and kind of desperate to maintain his beloved ship afloat.

"I will help you Saltgut. You saved my life, let me repay the favour."

He smiled at you with pride on his smirk. But that smile soon faded away, his hands were trembling hard.

"T-the arthritis..." He muttered, albeit you could see that his ailments were not the only things that were moving his hands, he was terrified too. "I have some chems and booze, they would calm me down!"

>Look at his stash and choose what things he should take. Calculate the perfect dosage to keep him calm but now drowsy.

>1500/3000 Exp in total

You look around and find several chems, some of them rare and expensive. You don't know about a few of them but there are enough that you have heard about or tried on yourself.

You get a cup and start preparing the old Ghoul the best drug mixture of his entire life. You grabbed an Atomic Cocktail and poured inside some liquid Calmex mixed a few pulverised Day Tripper pills and got yourself a strange glowing liquid that for some odd reason vibrated and hummed softly.

Saltgut seems to be happy with the result and pours two drinks, one for himself and another for you.

"For the sea and what lies beyond!" He says drinking both glasses without even stopping to breathe.

You shrug and drink it too. The liquid was hard to swallow at first but when you were done you wanted more. You lick the glass and then throw it away when you couldn't get any more of that strange cocktail that you had. Now, everything looks funny and saturated, colours and lights were bright, sounds intensified and on the background you constantly hear your own beating heart. You feel as if everything moves in slow motion.

The drugs have made you lose some of your inhibitions and fears but you are still sober enough to control your actions and be able to think with rationality. Your senses are heightened and time seems to move faster. It is time to get to work.

Time shifts in a strange way when you are on drugs. In one instant you feel as if every second is an eternity, then you black out and according to the clocks several hours have passed. You woke up again, at least this time you weren't naked. The captain was close to you, sailing the Rustbucket and with a wide grin on his decrepit face.

"W-what happened?"

"It worked! We got high and that helped us get calm enough to finish the repairs. In fact it's even better than before! The sonar now detects fishes and other things faster and further! And the ship has stopped steering left, it has been doing that for about fifty years! I had even learned how to take it into account when travelling long distances!"

"Wow, nice. Too bad I cannot tell it to anybody I guess."

"Well, there's something else you can brag about."

"Which is?"
>>
>>3576631

"The drugs were way more intense for you than they were for me, it's a Ghoul thing, Jet barely does anything to me. Anyway. You were so passionate and well, tripping balls, that you ended grabbing one of my old surf boards and added an engine and who knows what else into it. You ran all across the ship like a madman screaming at people for pieces and breaking down anything that wasn't vital for the ship. Dude the others are a little bit scared of you now... but on the other side. You built a god damn rocket surfboard man. It's radical! You even gave it a name, the Nukaburst rocketboard!"

>Nukaburst rocketboard
>Seats: 1
>Health Slots: 3
>Damage Reduction: 0
>Weapon: None
>Ramming Damage: 1d6

Saltgut laughs his ass off and then throws a couple of black and white photos at you. They were off you two celebrating having fixed the navigational array and how you afterwards started taking more and acting like a madman, the pictures are weird, embarrassing and funny to look at.

You didn't know what to expect and yet still, you were surprised. It was an old surf board with a shark bite hole on the front area. The paint had mostly chipped away but you could still see some faint colours and floral drawings here and there.

On the back of the board you had bolted a high octane V12 engine. How the hell you managed to get one of these? Who knows, who cares. Next to the engines there were two turbochargers linked together with lots of bolts and scrap metal. Under the board a couple of microfusion cells were also used along with several copper rods to create a quantum levitation effect powerful enough to keep the heavy board from sinking into the ocean. The energy cells weren't strong enough to allow for flight or gliding but at least as long as they had charge the board would float.

Honestly, the thing looked like a deathwish, but a very fun one at that!

With the aid of the captain you grab the board and go to the upper decks. You walk out and are greet by the dusk, you have spent almost an entire day in a drug fuelled trip. At least you feel well rested, fed and sated, who knows how much you must have eaten while you were with the munchies.

Once outside the rest of the crew stopped what they were doing and went out to see the shitshow that you were about to give them. Aurore was the most worried looking one, and she was the one that lacked anything resembling a face.

"I will not allow for any exceedingly dangerous activities in the ship!" The robot screams.

"Well...this won't happen in the ship, will it?" Adds a joyful Kahuna.

"Your logic gates only allow you to operate inside the Rustbucket don't they?" Added Saltgut. That's what I bought and programmed you for.

The robot staggers for a while, attempting to find a way out of her programming to stop this risky nonsense. But she lacked a human soul and after much deliberating found no loophole or way of avoiding your unnecessary stunt. A fuse blew inside of her sending several sparks away and she quickly turned around and went back into her room. If you ever had any chance of getting kinky with her it was now as blown as her fuse box.

You activated the board and dropped it on the floor. The thing whirred mechanically and the two batteries started creating an electromagnetic field powerful enough to keep it floating and also the user stuck to the board. It used the same principles as eyebot robots, only way more crude and powerful.

The first two times you got on board you fell down, one time on your face and the next one on your butt. Since the thing floated there was no friction at all and once on board you had to keep really really steady. Once you got the hang of it you asked the others to move away and kicked the pedal that you had installed for the engine.

In an instant the whole thing roared to life and started spewing flames and smoke. The two turbochargers glowing and launching a corona of plasma fire on their exhausts. With a smile you fully press the pedal. You were instantly launched into the sea, your eyes closed from the air and your mouth open wide. You would need a flight helmet or something if you wanted to go that fast. Luckily the instant you stop pressing the pedal the engine stops and slowly halts.

You look back and see the Rustbucket several feet away, in a single instant you had crossed about half a mile.

"Holy shit."

"Hey Dillinger!" Screams Rickard from the ship. "Surf this!" The brute of the heart of gold then threw a mini-nuke close to you. Where the hell did he get that thing? Who knows!? In that instant all you could think about was the giant wave that was forming next to you.

"Kowabunga!" Screams the captain as the ships passes next to you riding the wave.

You masterfully take control of the oceans and ride as if it were the most natural thing that had ever happened to you. Not bad for someone who hasn't surfed in his entire life.

Kicking the pedal as hard and fast as you can makes the engine roar in excitement and gives you enough boost to launch you above the seas and into the skies. With your two feet still magnetically stuck to the board you grab the side of it and push as hard as you can, making you spin in mid air just as you are flying above the ship. The water drops that you carried being sprayed onto the crew below as they cheer and scream.

Your landing is kind of rough but you manage to make it. The sea completely engulfs you and the moment you put the nose of the board pointing upwards you kick the acceleration pedal once more. Strongly launching you onto the surface and sending more water everywhere.

Before you could even notice it the sun left and the sky became filled with stars. Cold airs soon started to whistle around you and with them and even colder mist. If you could you would have spent the entire night surfing but you knew that doing so would end giving you pneumonia or a cold.

You mount your rocketboard and take it next to the tugboat. When you were close enough you deactivated the microfusion cells and felt it sink. Since the engine on the back was the most heavy part it was the first thing that went down. Before the board was completely down you reactivated the quantum levitation field and kicked the pedal several times. Since the board was pointing upwards and with part of the engine underwater this created an explosion of water that launched you into the air. Just high enough to allow you to grab the board in mid air and land on your feet in the ship's deck, looking epic.

"Duuuuuude!" Screamed Seabreeze. "That was gnarly! It was all like wowowowowyeah!" He said as he rocked his guitar and headbanged.

"Impresive." Added Shang. "Think of adding blades to the board. With that speed and skill you could kill any foe."

"I liked when you made it rain!" Yelled Rickard.
>>
>>3576822

"Can I play with it too? Pwease pwease!" Kahuna begged, almost crying from the excitement.

"Boy, I think it's in my best interest to keep you around. Tell you what. I will take you to see the Sons of Kanaloa for free, but in exchange as soon as you have that collar out you will work for me. Kahuna is a good grease monkey but you...you might even substitute me some day. I mean, who else might do it? Seabreeze? No offense."

"None taken Cap'!

Soon enough you all were back in the same place as yesterday, next to the fridge exchanging stories, eating and getting high.

>You feel bad for Aurore, go and check if her internal systems are good. Her blown fuse might be worse than it looks.

You notice that Aurore is missing from the circle, despite being the one who clearly enjoyed these meetings the least she was there to be sure that nobody got too drunk, high or rowdy. You walked into her room and saw found instead a small closet full of books of all kinds, medicines and cleaning tools. She was simply standing in there, idle.

"A-aurore, are you ok?"

"I don't know. Am I?"

"I could tell you if you let me look your internal workings."

She raised her three eyes at you and did something that felt like a sigh.

"I'm fine, tired but fine. I was built to keep people safe in a time period were safety was way more important than it is now. I was programmed to work with small children in a safe environment like a hospital or a kindergarten. Instead I am in a ship that is barely floating, watching manchildren risk their lives to get food and then spend their free time drinking or smoking poison. And that's of course the times were we don't encounter pirates or something worse. I can't avoid getting worried about them and every time I try to help I find myself with a logic barrier or some other problem. I can yell at them but since they are adults they can ignore me, and my programming says that they are right. I live in a constant conflict... and I know that I have been lucky, I have a family and a relatively safe space. The other Miss Nannies in the Wasteland might be forced to endure raiders or monsters on the daily."

Kind of worried you look at her with a sympathetic smile and decide to leave her on her own, at least for a while. You go back to the cheerful circle and interrupt the tales that they were merrily telling.

"Hey, Aurore's not fine. She's upset because of our attitude, and I think that me surfing with a rocket strapped to my board just added insult to injury." You say, looking at them all directly into their eyes.

"Take a chill pill. Can't it wait for tomorrow? We'll cross that bridge when we come to it..." Adds Seabreeze, slightly mad about you for interrupting him.

"Honestly, I don't think so." Mentions Shang. "Lately she has been more erratic and mad at our behaviour."

"I've read of robots who simply snap out and go all murder killy!" Yells Kahuna

"That can happen to people too!" Adds Seabreeze, completely missing the point and derailing the conversation.

"Aurore would never hurt us!" Screeches a worried Rickard.

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Whispers Saltgut as he finishes a beer. "Aurore was old even by the time I bought her. She was built about twenty years before the Great War so she must be as old as I am. I doubt that the RobCo engineers expected one of their AIs to live for almost three centuries so who knows, perhaps during this time she either developed a true AI or became crazy. Is something that always worried me but wanted to ignore."

"No, I don't think it goes that far." You add. "Aurore is not crazy, just melancholic. She told me about how her programming urges her to take care of all of us, but we are reckless and live surrounded by pirates, monsters and radiation. I think she misses the old days where she simply took care of babies."

"You know." Speaks Saltgut. "I understand her. To me there are three categories of people, the lucky ones who died in the Great War, the kinda lucky ones who were born afterwards and then us, the poor devils who witnessed the world before it was corrupted and tainted. There isn't a single day in which I don't miss my past life, job, friends and family. If she really worked as a nurse or caregiver before the bombs then who knows how many children are in her memory banks..."

"Should we wipe her memories then?" Suggests Kahuna.
>>
>>3578645

"No, too risky, we can make a mistake and end turning her berserk, leave her as an emotionless empty shell or perhaps even completely kill her. Besides...it's not ethical. Aurore is more than a simple robot." You intersect.

They all agree and Kahuna sulks softly, kinda ashamed of suggesting that. You comfort her and look at the group.

"The world as has changed, and there's no going back to the old days. We can perhaps cheer her up and teach her that life isn't that bad, and that we can take care of ourselves and we are also safer thanks to her caregiving."

"Make her change her mind but also feel useful. I agree." Says Shang raising his Nuka-Cola bottle. "Even if her buzzsaw is not as precise as my blade she has helped me fillet the fish during countless of nights and she was the one who taught me how to treat and heal from different types of cuts after I had an accident... to me, she's family as much as the ashes of my ancestors."

"Thanks to her I was able to move away, she was the one who saved me from ending it all..." Mutters a heartbroken yet thankful Saltgut.

"She taught me how to read and tells me fairy tales when there are stormy nights or I have nightmares!" Adds Rickard, seemingly very happy of having Aurore in the crew to repel his fears.

"M-me too! She must have told me Little Red Riding Hood about a thousand times!" Yells an excited Kahuna.

"Yeah! And when I joined the crew I was even more useless than I was now. She was the one who taught me how to cook!" Screams Seabreeze at the top of his lungs.

"And she was the one who nursed back to life right?" You ask.

"Dude, she was the one who instructed us how to reanimate you. You would be totally goners if it wasn't for her." Whispers Seabreeze to your ears, apparently in an attempt at hiding this detail from the young and impressionable Kahuna.

"Then is set. We owe her, let's make this ship a better place and tell her how much we appreciate her."

"There's no need." Says a voice from behind. Everybody turns around and see Aurore emerge from the shadows.

"You are my children, big and daring, but my children nonetheless... I'm sorry I worried you all."
>>
>>3578646

Kahuna started to tear up and soon followed the rest, except Shang. Everybody stand up and hug her cold and hard chassis, which now feels warm and soft.

"Dillinger, tomorrow we will reach Lana'i and dock in Murkwater. Everybody but you will have shore leave while I take the ship across the Ballam Canal towards Moltenspur to unload and sell the fish, afterwards I will try to get us a pass to reach the Ashcourt, that's were the upper echelons of the Sons live and work, if there's anyone who knows how to remove that collar it will be one of them."

"Awesome. Thanks for your help!"

"Welcome to our family Rast!" Adds Rickard.

Lana'i is not an island, but the biggest junkyard that you have ever seen. It belongs to the Sons of Kanaloa, the hyper industrialist and capitalist faction that lack any kind of morality and deals with anyone as long as it benefits them.

The entire coast is surrounded by what is known, for obvious reasons, as Murkwater. A ring of haphazardly built buildings made from whatever material was at hand. Docks and harbours pop up every now and then and with them pipes spewing dirty water and other chemicals. What once were transparent and crystalline waters now are thick and dirty, with rubbish, dead fish and oil stains freely floating. Murkwater surrounds the entirety of the island and some parts of it even go into the sea and are built on old piers or half sunken ships connected by catwalks.

As soon as the Rustbucket docks you find yourself in front of an extension of shanty sacks made from scrap metal and half rotten wood. There are some high buildings made from trailer homes or shipping containers set one on top of another, all tied up with rusty metal and damaged wires.

There are several businesses in there that range from hairdressers to whorehouses; junk and weapon shops are scarce thought, the Sons of Kanaloa don’t like when their citizens commerce or work with technology that they didn’t create...

"Getting the permission to use cross the Canal will take me a couple of hours. Feel free to explore if you want but don't go too far, the permissions are only granted once per day and only last a couple of hours so I will need you to come with me. Understood?" Says Saltgut as he grabs all his legal documents.

You nod and see the rest except Aurore get down. She finds the place such unnecessarily risky that she prefers to stay on board.

>Rickard and Shang are going to get some drinks and relax in some local Jet den. Join them.

"Hey Kahuna, I'll tag along, I bet you know the coolest places around." You yell from the deck.

"Ya betcha!" She screams back as she turns around and salutes you from below.

You get down and get immediately greet with the pleasant aroma of chemicals, human waste and fuel.

"Do you have any caps thought?" She asks.

"Yeah, the captain gave me 22 caps. Will that be enough?"

"Heh, perhaps to buy yourself a couple of beers and something to munch on, but don't expect too much."

"Well, I'll only hang around for a couple of hours so I guess it's alright."

Despite being an overall poor area it was surprisingly high tech, there were several drones that hovered and scouted around monitoring everything. The drones ported the Sons of Kanaloa logo, a red tentacle snaring an anchor and they seemed to act like the local police force.

Most of the shops and homes also had electricity and lights among with other electronics like air conditioners, jukeboxes or working freezers. Despite living in misery these people were the ones who built most if not all the tech of the area and had commodities that were completely unheard of in other wastelands.

"So, where to?"

"Oh, there's a place that I like, its a small seafood restaurant near the piers, the Krispy Steamed Krab. They have their own Mirelurk hatchery and raise and cook them for cheap. They use an old steam engine and boil them alive, the process also cleans them from any radiation!"

You look at her kinda puzzled but then shrug.

"Guess this place as good as any other."

"Yeah! And if we are lucky someone will attempt the Challenge!!"

"What challenge?"

"Ok so, the restaurant normally kills the Mirelurks before putting them in the boiler, but this ends messing with the taste of their meat. To be truly good they have to be boiled alive! So anyone who offers itself to knock one down and put it in the boiler will be rewarded with a hundred caps a picture of their achievement on the restaurant's wall, a free meal and a small handmade Mirelurk plushie!!"

"Oh damn, and you totally want that plushie right!"

"Yeah!!!" She yelled, pulling from your sleeves.

"Has anyone died trying it?"

"Not that I know off. There are of course urban legends about a girl who managed to lure a Mirelurk into the boiler but was unable to escape and ended being cooked alive! Can you believe that??"

"I can." You reply.

Before we go and fight the crab I'll explain combat. Every weapon has an Attack Dice and a Damage Dice.

For example:
>Our Laser Pistol has an Attack Dice of 2d10(1)
>This means that we roll two d10 and of those two we consider the second dice roll to be for critical attacks.
>Since our Luck is only 1 we need to get at least a 10 in the second dice roll to get a Critical attack
>But!!! Our Laser Pistol also has the Precise effect, this means that we can exchange the order of these dice rolls, if we for example roll 10 and 2 we can also consider it a critical attack because we at least got a 10 in one of them.

>Our Laser Gun's Damage Dice is 1d4
>If we make a Critical hit the Damage dice will gain an aditional dice, becoming 2d4

>If you have questions go ahead.
>>
>>3578779
>Accept, you are a clearly intelligent person. You will surely find a way to fool a small brained crab.

"You know that the plushie must be worth less than a couple of caps right?"

"So what! It's exclusive and thus a proof how cool you are."

"Then I will do the challenge!" You scream to her as you high five.

"Yeahhh!!!"

"And then I'll keep the plush toy to myself!"

"NOOOOOOO!!!!" She screeches, playfully punching your shoulder.

Laughing and joking you two walk towards the restaurant, its in an area made from mostly reddish and orange coloured containers, its hard to say if they are that colour because that was their original look of due to years of rust. This place seems to have focused on restaurant and similar gastronomic business, there are cafeterias, pubs, food tents and breweries of different kinds, all boasting about how their foods are better, cheaper and cleaner.

It didn't take you two long to reach the Krispy Steamed Krab and honestly, judging only be the look of it the place didn't seems like much. It is a small door that leas to an spiralling stair that goes down and down but oh my god, the smell that came from it was the most delicious thing that you have ever smelled. The aroma immediately made your stomach rumble with hunger, a hunger that you didn't had a second before.

You two went down and down and ultimately reached an open circular area, surely several feet under the sea level. The entire place seemed to have been a sewer system in the past and now had been turned into a surprisingly big restaurant. The circular area was divided in two by a small waterway that could be easily crossed thanks to a wooden bridge, the water originated from a dark tunnel and lead to an even darker tunnel, nobody seemed to give much attention to this. Thousands of lights and lamps illuminated the area and the ceiling was decorated with countless of car air fresheners and aromatic candles that to be honest worked and made the area stop smelling like what it was, a sewer. From time to time wooden boxes appeared from one end of the sewer, gently floating and carrying with it several steamy plates of deliciously smelling food. All you have to do to eat is sit down, look at the menu, write on a paper what you want to eat and wait until one of the floating boxes appears, then place your order and the caps on it and wait until your food comes back. Pretty cool to see.
>>
>>3578873
You sit down, write on your order that you want to do the challenge an then wink at her as you send it back.

Not long afterwards a small canoe appears and with it a rifle loaded with tranquilliser darts.

"A challenger!" Screams one of the clients as he sees the canoe.

"C'mon dude, go and hop on it!" Says Kahuna.

Well, you have survived falling from a plane, surely a lil crab won't kill you. Right? From your seat you lower the power output of your laser pistol to turn it nonlethal and stand up to grab the rifle and sit on the small canoe.
>Hunting Rifle: 2d10(2), 2d4 Damage, Lethal: Lowers the requirement for critical dice by 1, so we need to roll a 9 instead of a 10.

The waters take you to the dark tunnels and once you are in several Christmas lights turn on inside, on the walls there are stickied pictures of all the people who succeeded the Challenge in the past. To be honest they are many, this calms you down, this is just for fun, to give the people a show while they eat and helps the restaurant to get food. These are not psychotic raiders, just entrepreneurs, surely they will have security measures in case anything goes wrong.

Not long afterwards you are dragged by the current to an square room, a cook asks you to get down and to your surprise you see that the water barely reaches your knees. At the end of the room there is a huge hatch with a gigantic crystal deposit on top of it, all connected by several copper pipes. As the cook takes the canoe away you start to hear the tapping sound of several feet walking towards you. You turn around and see a small set of balconies where the others have moved in and are now cheering and hollering, Kahuna being the loudest of them all.

"And we have another challenger!" Says a loud voice from the loudspeakers! "Our last competitor was a woman called Blackleg Sarah! She managed to knock down our lurk and drag it onto the boiler in less than a minute, beating any and all records since we started timing down! Will this one beat her? Tell us your name stranger!"

"D-dillinger!" You scream.

"Well Dillinger! Welcome to the Steamy steamy Krab Challenge! Ready or not here we go!"

Then a side door opened and from it appeared a single adult Mirelurk, nervous and scared, wanting to kill anyone that got on his path towards freedom.

You grab the dart rifle and quickly aim at the Mirelurk, with a deafening shot you propel a sleeper dart directly onto the creature's eye. The lurk had no time to react and thus the attack caught him by surprise. If you had shot only a little bit further to the left it would instead have hit on its hard carapace and have done no damage at all. Hopefully his eyeball is close enough to his brain for the sleepy juice to act quickly.

The rest scream and cheer loudly and make the poor sea monster feel even more confused.

Luckily for you between the tranquilliser dart and the surrounding screams the Mirelurk was too confused to understand what was going on and thus it didn't attack you back.

>12 Damage done.

You run towards the little crustacean and shove the rifle directly into its crabby mouth, then with a smile push the trigger.

Bang!

And the little fucker falls down, chocking on a dart that spill more and more tranquilliser the more it fights.

The Mirelurk retreats a few steps and then starts to tremble, then arches its back and bends down to puke hard and vomit the dart that you force feed him.

Several of the bystanders cheer and decide to participate too, throwing several beer bottles, glasses and cutlery to the crab.

>+2 Damage done.

"The broken beers and glasses will be charged to your accounts!" Screams the voice from the speakers.

You looked up and saw that you still had about thirty seconds if you wanted to beat the record. Perhaps it would be a better idea to push the mirelurk into the boiler now that it is weakened and stumbling. If you simply knock it down then you will later have to drag its heavy body.

Failure

Still within arm range of the Mirelurk you shot its other eye. This time the needle ends sticking from his ocular orb, dangling and spraying the anaesthetic chemicals everywhere.

Now that it was completely blind you roll away and drag yourself across the floor to grab bolts, glass pieces and whatever is at hand to throw it towards the boiler and guide the lurk into its doom. You look upwards and indicate to your beloved public to be quiet but luckily for you they quickly understand what is your intention and cease their bickering.

"Didn't your mother teach you that it's rude to play with your food?" Teases the female announcer.

You flip the bird at the cameras and loudspeakers for her interruption might have put your entire plan into jeopardy but luckily, the crab doesn't seems to pay attention and continues focusing on the little breadcrumbs that you were throwing.

Just when it was about to get inside you bolt to close the door and push the fucker inside. You have a very powerful muscle within you, your brain, the rest...meh. The crab is heavier and sturdier than you expected and despite having racing towards it you can barely bulge it.

The Mirelurk is blind, but it still can feel and sense you pushing him. It quickly turns around and attempts to uppercut you with its sharp oversized claws. Since you can't dodge it the fucker ends scratching your chest and giving you a new bloody scar. The cut isn't deep thought, it looks worse than it really is.

"If you wanna play rough so will I." You scream at it as you proceed to shove the rifle into its left eye and the laser pistol into the other. The pain that it is suffering is so great that the critter staggers back, right into the Boiler.

You jump back, close the door and press the giant red button that activates the machine. Then, the countdown stops. Everybody is quiet. You look up and see it.

>Time Left to beat the record:
00:01

Then the entire place explodes in cheers and screams, even the local cooks leave the kitchen to celebrate it.

You can check it out here
https://docs.google.com/document/d/17h2Zm77a7A6MuvcRf4QdBZ-agS7B90SsgInJJ-O9COA/edit?usp=sharing

We also need to add a new perk! Here is the list of perks: >>3576479
>>
>>3579241
Child at Heart or Four Eyes
because it fits character perfectly
>>
>>3579241
Second wind
Humans have some really good perks for not dying.
>>
I'll put the suggestions here so people can quickly read them instead of searching across the document:

>Child at Heart:
You never truly grew up, and you probably never will. I think there was a song about that back before the War… Anyway, you relate well to children and they will always stick up for you. Furthermore, you get +2 to all Speech (CHA) Tests against child NPCs.

>Four Eyes:
Archimedes used a pair of glasses to make a death ray. It's totally true. Look it up. I dare you. You, however, need to wear glasses in order to see properly. When wearing glasses you gain a +2 bonus to Perception (maximum Perception 10). However, if any enemy scores a Critical Hit against you and you're wearing an unbroken pair of glasses you do not take extra damage, but instead your glasses are broken. You suffer a -2 penalty to Perception (minimum Perception 1) until you repair your glasses or find a new pair.

>Second Wind:
After losing your entire Health Points you will be given some turns to kill an enemy, if you succeed you will manage to recover 10% of your entire health. With the first level are given 2 turns, with the second level you will have 3 turns and with the third level you will have 5 turns.
>>
>>3579256
>Four Eyes
>>
>>3579256
>Four Eyes:

To get glasses to we need to find ophthalmologist? Or can we get just some glasses
>>
>>3579277
Well, the Fallout-verse is ruled by wacky science. Let's just say that they managed to make glasses that adapt to the user's needs. So finding some regular glasses just works. That's at least what happened in Fallout New Vegas where this perk appeared as a trait.

On the other side, you at some point might find and awesome armor and be unable to use it because it has been adapted to be used for Super-Mutants or Robots. In that case, you will have to haul it so a tailor or a blacksmith can adapt it for you.
>>
Poor mirelurk :(

>>3579340

When the mood calms down a person wearing an airtight rad suit approaches you, it is hard to say if it was a man or a woman as it is wearing a reflective bubble shaped helmet.

"Congrats kid. You are now making waves, making people talk about you. Continue like this and we will meet again, I know a wasteland legend when I see one." And with this said he simply leaves. Whatever. Creep.

You turn around from him and see Kahuna approaching you, arms up and ready to hug you, only to stop at the last second.

"You are bleeding!!!"

"Uh, oh yeah, at the time I didn't even notice it, it's just a flesh wound, it doesn't even hurts."

"Oh cool then! Where's my plushie?"

"I don't know..." You then gasp as exaggeratedly as possible. "What if it was inside of the Mirelurk and its now boiling!"

"Nuuuuuuuuuuuu!" She screamed as she punches you softly and adorably.

The crowd ends dispersing and returning to the dinning area before their meals get cold. You too go back with Kahuna and to your surprise see meal ready for you two along with a bag with a hundred caps and a small and adorable plush that somewhat a mirelurk hatchling. She loves it.

After dining you are fuller than you have ever feel. You stretch and see Kahuna yawning. After such earthy meal you too are a little bit drowsy. You better take her back to the ship, you should be returning too anyway.

You end your meal and take her by the hand and ascend up into the stairs back at the surface. The sun is bright and blinding, even painful. Back in the mainland you used a pair of glasses, you need them really. On your way back you search for a glass shop and find several options:

I have personally considered this. He overdoses in some weird experimental drug and becomes a Ghoul, the first Ghoul. The Gov attempts to hide it and fakes his death. He's studied for the following +100 years. With the Great War he finally finds a way of escaping.... Its either that or having an a robot that truly believes to be him.

>Stylish Glasses

You end getting a pair of stylish glasses with a brown frame and slightly tinted black lenses. You look really dashing with these!

Happy with your purchase you return to the ship and see Saltgut signalling you to board the deck.

"Hey there kiddo, how was the tourism?"

"Not bad, Kahuna showed me some of the local gastronomy."

You wink at the little girl and see her scuttle towards her room to play with her new plush.

"Uh, nice! By the way you look really good with these glasses, you are going to become lady killer!"

You chuckle at his comment and shake your head.

"I wish. Anyway, everything is ready?"

He nods and starts to move towards the captain's deck, just in case you follow behind. With a cracking noise he reawakens the engines and starts to sail the ship across the coastline. There are ghettos and shanty towns as far as you eye can see. Seeing slaves with explosives collars like you isn't uncommon either, seems that since the Sons are so money driven the slaves can buy their freedom at any time, an unfair yet hopeful future for them. It was a dog eat dog society, a despotic vision of pre-War glory were the weak are stomped and the strong thrive.

After around twenty minutes you reach an enormous concrete and iron gate, the Ballam Canal. Massive pistons and pulleys are needed to open it and on each door a massive engine roared and spewed smog. The doors opened just enough to allow the Rustbucket to cross and when you did you see that the gates are several feet thick. As soon as your ship is inside the doors close, and an suffocating darkness surrounds you.

The inside is a barely lit massive tunnel, big enough for pre-War super tankers or one cargo cruisers to cross it. On the sides there are catwalks and small cranes used to load or unload ships. The place is full of guards, all zealously ready to aim their guns at your ship at any moment.

"The engineers of the Canal took advantage of existing caves and passages where they could." Saltgut starts to mention. "But still, the labour must have been staggering. The story goes that the Archmasters of the Sons of Kanaloa required the use of nuclear explosives and other dangerous pre-War technologies, but they never admit truly it and play down the fact, they always boast that this was done thanks to their machines, not with legacies from another era."

Certainly, some of the parts of tunnel look blasted or tunneled, others look... dissolved?

Not long afterwards you reach the other end of the tunnel and are greet with snow...black snow? No...it wasn't snow. It was ash.

You have reached Moltenspur, the central circle of the island, the one where all the factories are located. Upwards is the Ashcourt, the elitist district where the island's elite worked, and even upwards Mount Lānaʻihale, a massive volcano that also spews dark fumes. There are factories as far as you can see, industrial buildings as high as cathedrals with countless deposits, pipes and chimneys. Many areas are communicated with railways that dangerously transport goods from one place to another at high speeds. There are no pedestrian pathways, only roads that are only used by transport trucks and vans used to move the violent guards from one place to another.

Despite the great toxicity of the area and the inhuman working conditions the place is crowded with people, almost no one here is free thought; the sight of explosive slave collars is so common that most people seem to simply have learned to ignore it. Slaves here build almost everything, from toasters to high tech plasma weapons and robotic components. There are many sounds around, but one of them is higher than the rest, the incessant sound of slave guards whipping the slaves to make them work faster and harder. You cannot avoid getting tense.

"Relax kid. I know it's harsh, but it is how this place works. For twelve hours these people are slaves working for the Sons and legally considered as goods, during the other 12 they are considered persons and the guards are forbidden from harming them as long as they don't break any law. It's weird, but it has been working like this for a century already."

"Is Kahuna in danger?" You ask Saltgut as this place might bring her bad memories or traumas.

"Don't worry, it's not the first time she comes here. Normally according to Kanaloa's law if any of your parents dies then you inherit its debts. But Kahuna was born outside of the island, her mother gave birth to her in that small rowboat. And there are no records of Kahuna in their archives. So technically speaking, she's debt free. She's a free person."

It wasn't what you were wondering but it was good to know that they couldn't associate Kahuna with her parents.

Your ship continued sailing across the canal, passing by seemingly endless factories until it reached an artificial harbour with several gigantic ships, the canal also went on and on, apparently continuing until reaching the other side of the island, effectively dividing it in two. Saltgut docks his ship who now looks comically small in comparison with the rest of the super tankers and starts to show his papers to the local guard.
>>
>>3580713

The guards there all wear blue robes and metallic armors, including masks. It's not hard to understand why. It isn't until you leave the safety of the Captain's deck that you notice how hard is to breathe with all the local smog and ash rain. Your geiger counter starts to beep from the local low level radiation but there's nothing you can do now. You put your arm over your mouth in a pitiful attempt at stopping the pollutants but it barely works. The local officer notices that you are struggling to breathe and takes his sweet time to look at the papers and approve them, seemingly enjoying your suffering.

>+20 Rad points

After all the bureaucracy is done you are guided by Saltgut to follow him and reach a funicular that ascends upwards all the way into the volcano's summit. Once inside the doors close and seal and a series of small turbines activate, expelling all the toxic gases out.

"Man, that guard was a complete douchebag." You say once the air is breathable again.

"Yeah, tell me about it. You know that they also wear masks to avoid being recognised?" He replies.

"How so?" You ask puzzled.

"Despite being guards they have to live in Murkwater, they are pawns too. If anyone recognises a guard in Murkwater then it is a dead man. I mean, wouldn't you want to kill the person who tortures you for twelve hours a day every day?"

"I've barely been with him for half an hour and I already wanna knock his teeth out!" You reply back.

"There you go."

The funicular starts to move up and up and about ten minutes later you reach the Ashcourt. The place is separated from the rest by a wall and for a good reason, it has fresh and clean air. Several turbine towers suck the polluted air from the volcano and factories below and send it back to Murkwater and the ocean with some pipes. The entire district looks pristine and even better than some pictures that you have seen from pre-War towns. This is where all the engineers, generals, factory bosses and highest ranking members of the Sons of Kanaloa live. It’s the only place with truly clean water and healthy vegetation. Ashcourt also includes Kanaloa’s College, a university where students from all across Hawaii can come to study engineering, architecture and high studies that are impossible to learn anywhere else.

It is truly enraging to see how well these few lived while thousands below were starving or being worked to death. You turned to Saltgut and saw his jaw clenched, his blood was also boiling.

Once the funicular stopped and you two got out you were received by a man in a Rad Suit, the same one that greeted you after you defeated the Mirelurk.

"Oh look, our bright Wasteland Hero is here." It says, still wearing it's helmet.

"So I've been told" It replies back sharply. "My name is Dominique Stills. I am in charge of the slave operations, or as we prefer to call them indentured workers. I contact people and pay them to bring me slaves, the further they come the better, it's easier to simply desist and accept your new status as a slave if all your friends and family are thousands of miles away. A month ago we contracted a group of raiders for a job. Two thousand caps for forty overseas slaves, and you are the only thing that managed to survive."

You were bothered by how it refereed to you not as a person, but as a thing.

"What a shame the contract is in the bottom of the ocean isn't it?" You reply angrily.

It got close to you and then bent down a little.

"Oh, but I always do a copy of every one of my deals." It whispers smugly to your ear.

"You see...the contract wasn't completely fulfilled and the rest are dead...so...whose fault it is really?" She continues.

"This is going to be a legal nightmare. Good thing that the laws and all the judges of the island are on my side. Fight if you want, but all you will earn is loss and misery."

You close your first until your nails dig into your skin and make you bleed.

"How much? Everything here has a price. How much to take this out?"

"That depended."

"Don't you mean depends?"

"No." It says half chuckling. "We the Sons of Kanaloa treat every aspect of life like an exchange, call it bartering if you prefer."

She then pushes a button on her neck and the helmet's glass surface stops being reflective, showing on the other side a smug yet surprisingly attractive woman.

"Information is power. You lacked information and that made you weak." Dominique says pressing her index finger against your chest, directly in the wound that the Mirelurk had done to you.

She then grabs a small remote from her pocket and aims it at your collar, afterwards she pushes a button and your collar starts to beep.

"The collar was inactive. To avoid accidents we don't activate them until the slaves reach Lana'i. Now you won't be able to leave the island without triggering it. I wanted to let you go for cheap but you have angered me being rude. Removing the inactive collar would have costed you twenty caps. Removing an active one will cost you a thousand."

"T-there must be another way of paying, c'mon, let's not be harsh here." Intersected a panicking Saltgut.

"Well...there's a job. It's easy but not nice." She said smiling slyly.

"What is it!" You scream at her.

"Up there is the Lānaʻihale volcano. It became active with the bombs and with its heat we power all of our factories and city. It is sacred to us. It is the heart of this island, and we have to keep it beating no matter what."

"Alright, so?"

"There is crane above the crater, is more of a small vehicle on rails that can hold loads and drop them. Every now and then we offer sacrifices to the island's fiery heart to keep if alive. We drop criminals, nukes, radioactive waste, wasteland critters and even secrets in the form of documents. Normally the vehicle is controlled from a station placed on a safe distance but the last operator ended inhaling too many volcanic fumes and ended losing his mind and breaking the controls before falling to its doom. Now, the workers think that the volcano is angry at us for some reason and do not dare to work. You will do it, only once, throw all the sacrifices that we haven't been delivering for the last month and you will be freed and the workers will stop believing that the place is cursed."

"This is fucking bullshit." You mutter under your breath.

"Otherwise, well, slave work it is for you. I guess that in perhaps twenty years you might be able to pay for your freedom."

>Accept. Go there, drop some stuff on the volcano, and go out. Easy.

A few of the locals gather around you, curious as of why there are two dirty wastelanders staining their pristine streets. Their clothes are all clean, their jewellery obscenely big and their many bionics chrome and shiny. Despite being elitist as hell the Sons are not racist, and among their elite there are several Ghouls and Psykers.

"It's only one time right? Go, drop the load and leave."

"Sure. The workers are superstitious by nature. Once they see that someone has managed to do it without dying they will be fighting for the position. Being a Kanaloa executor and dropping gifts to our Goddess is considered to be a very honourable job."

"Whatever. Will I get equipment at least? I don't want to inhale smoke and ash and go coocoo."

"Of course, we take care of our own. You will be provided with a thermal suit with in built air filtration systems."

You look at Saltgut and he softly nods at you.

"Fine."

Immediately afterwards she takes several papers and a pen from a bag and makes you sign all of them, it's all in lawyerspeak so normal people can't understand what they say, luckily for you, you are a genius. Basically, if you die, they will kill the rest of the crew to cut any loose ends. Yeah, no big deal.

After signing she smiles satisfied with herself and shortly afterwards a couple of slaves come and give you the thermal suit. It is a suit similar to what she is wearing but red in colour and apparently designed to withstand heat instead of radiation.

Wanting to finish as soon as possible you leave any hint of shame behind and get naked surrounded by the most classy people that you have ever seen. They gasp and giggle but you don't give a damn. Quickly, you put on the suit, the helmet and zip it all until you are sealed and protected.

The circle that surrounds you opens to leave you way to the funicular, several other trains have been ready to ascend too, apparently they want to see how you do it. You are sure that most of them want you to fail to goad and feel once more reassured of how they are better than the common folk.

Once in the crater you find an elevated bridge connecting opposing sides. Several turbines connected to the pillars of the bridge suck all the poisonous fumes that the volcano is spewing, creating a small corridor of breathable air. On the upper side of the rails was a little train locomotive, behind it there were several cages, some had books, other radioactive waste, the last one was filled with decrepit humans that had been left there to rot. Before the accident the locomotive and the levers were pushed from a safe distance, now, you wouldn't be so lucky. You would have to drive the locomotive and push a lever every time one of the train cars was in the centre of the volcano. The lever would activate some pistons and push the contents towards the active volcanic caldera. You felt bad for these soon to be charred prisoners but after starving for weeks being thrown into a volcano would be a quick death, almost merciful.

"Well!" Says Dominique from behind you. "Since you will be the executioner I will allow you the honor of choosing the order of the sacrifices. Which on will be first, prisoners, nuclear waste or secrets?" She did it in a teasing manner, knowing fully well how much you hated this. The rest knew it too and once more giggled, psychos.

>Prisoners, secrets, waste.

You tell her of the chosen order and then she instructs her slaves to arrange the cages as you want.

To your surprise several camera drones come up and start recording everything. The people down below in the factories and the houses will be streamed the terrible act that you are about to do. This is something religious to them, a sacred ritual. It is even worse than you expected.

The rest of the elite crew are in there chit chatting while getting drunk and doing chems. They have high grade respirators that connect directly to their noses, allowing them to eat and drink as they please. The slaves around that now act like waiters and move the food around aren't so lucky and their gas masks are clearly low quality and patched.

Once everything is ready a man in a strange robe comes wielding an electric staff made from what seem to be different microphones and other mechanical gizmos. It is clear that he is a religious figure of some kind, a priest.

"Spark we are, and into spark we will become! Energy cannot be destroyed, only transformed! This criminals have wasted their spark to do wrondoings. They will be returned to our mother heart and their spirits will feed the machines that keep us from the dark. May your sparks grow in the electric grid, learn from its secrets and be reborn as Artificial Intelligence." The priests starts to scream, its voice being boomed across the entire island.

Worst of all is that everybody seem to take this seriously, even Saltgut to a small degree. You have heard of strange cults dedicated to Radiation or Guardian Spirits that live in caves but never anything like this. The caged prisoners are now agitated, nervous, apparently they expected to die from hunger before being sacrificed. Dying sooner would mean that their souls had a chance to go to heaven, you were taking that from them.

"The goddess has been hungry at us and despite doubling the work hours nobody ever dared to face its trial of fire! Until today! This brave soul from beyond the great blue has come to feed our ever hungry fire mother."

They all applaud you, some of the elite people even seemed genuine while doing it. You roll your eyes and hope that your helmet is reflective enough for them to not see it.

Without a second thought you get onto the train locomotive and push the lever that makes it go forwards. Slowly the elitists cheer more and more, contrasting heavily with the bawling and screams of the prisoners who are next to you.

>Complete your duty, pull the assigned lever and throw them to the volcano.
>Screw with the Sons of Kanaloa, perhaps if you drop the three cages at the same time the volcano will explode or something.
>Turn back, reject doing this.
>Accelerate more and more, derail the train, make it land on the Ashcourt and destroy their pretty neighbour.

>Complete your duty, pull the assigned lever and throw them to the volcano.

Once you are in the correct position a series of mechanical brakes stop you. Since these techno freaks are so nerdy the entire track has been designed so the load is dropped exactly in the centre of the volcano. To the side of the track and aligned with the cage are some magnetic clams and pistons. The heat is suffocating and you feel like you are about to pass out at any time but still, without ever looking back you pull the lever and try to ignore the screams, something impossible as the helmet that you are wearing stops you from covering your ears and removing it would lead to a slow and painful death.

The magnetic clams grab the side of the cage and the pistons start to push it. The cages had no real flood and thus the poor prisoners are slowly pushed further and further into the gaping maw of the volcano, loosing inches of floor with every second that passes. The entire process is painfully slow, with the cage grinding against the metal. You wish that the sound of the screeching metal becomes louder than their screams but it doesn't. Honestly, perhaps the last executor did not become mad because of the fumes, but due to all the screams and guilt.

The heat is so unbearable that they start to catch of fire even before reaching the lava. Hopefully, most of them will die before landing.

>+100 Insanity points

With the cage empty and its contents dropped you raise the lever again and see the clamps return the cage to its original position, then without you needing to do anything the train moves forwards, only enough to unload the next cage.

At least the next ones would not scream.

The barrels filled with radioactive waste and the filling cabinets full of old documents grind against the metal in a painful way but all you can hear is the screams of the prisoners still clawing in your brain. The two last cages are dropped uneventfully, you did it without thinking, you were emotionally exhausted, part of you had died in that moment.

Once finished you pull the engine lever back and see the train return to its original position. There were cheers everywhere. The heat of the reawakened engine was now feeding dozens of geothermal turbines that were charging the local battery arrays and powering the factories.

As soon as you removed your helmet you started to cry, Saltgut immediately comes and hugs you, several camera drones fly and record you pouring your soul out. You are so weakened and damaged that you don't even feel how the priests uses a key to remove the explosive collar from you.

"Keep it as a memento of this moment." He tells to you in a creepy joyful voice.

You return the thermal suit and get dressed again before going back down towards the Rustbucket. You feel weird, broken. It will be very hard for you to cope with this. It is one thing to kill in self defence, but this, this was murder of people who possibly didn't even deserved it. God you hate yourself now.

Once inside the ship you get on your room, close the door and cry yourself to sleep. By the time you wake up you don't know what time it is, you can feel the waves softly moving the ship and a soft vibration made by the engine on the walls, the Rustbucket is on the move. Looking around your bed you find Kahuna's plush Mirelurk and a plate of food. They still care for you.

Was a member of the brotherhood and was in fact born into it by a pair of paladins who were his parents both from distinguished families. Unlike his parents and siblings he did not inherit their gifts but instead leaned towards becoming a scribe. Which was fine until the day he fell in love. At the time he didn't know the girl he loved was a member of the Enclave and it proved a very nasty surprise. Which was why he left in secret before the truth could be disclosed to the Brotherhood. As a scribe his life was pretty typical and due to his entire family being quite strong along with their influences. Unlike most scribes he got dispatched into traveling the wasteland a lot sometimes with paladin escort and often got dragged into their own missions to provide them with support. It was to the point that the other scribes were convinced he chose the wrong profession and should have become a paladin like the rest of his family. It was during one of those missions that he ran into a certain girl who was badly wounded and mistook her for a noncombatant. Proceeded to patch her up and despite knowing the truth or the misunderstanding she decided to get to know him better.

He only found out she was Enclave member much later on after dating for a while when they both happened to be dispatched to the same place with similar mission objectives arriving at the same time. The result was the annihilation of his team and him being captured because one of the soldiers insisted on taking him alive(who turned out to be his gf). He was later taken to a nearby enclave base and after discovering his talents was spared but put under responsibility of a certain soldier who desired his capture in the first place. With her help he was later able to escape but that was the last time he ever saw her. By the time he returned to the Brotherhood they were very suspicious of the circumstances but have yet to gather much proof and realizing it was only a matter of time before they might figure out the truth. He left never to be seen by his home chapter again.

After that he wandered the wastes heartbroken and without a home or family to go back to. Luckily for him his many missions both his scribe ones and when he was dispatched to support paladins. He knew how to survive reasonably well and after visiting Enclave turf to see what happened after his escape. He discovered as punishment for the escape his gf was dispatched far away, but he never discovered where exactly. Due to his traveling he actually visited quite a few places but never really stuck around for long until hearing about Hawaii. He even discovered the other Brotherhood chapters didn't know about the truth but he didn't dare join them lest his home chapter finally figured out the truth and spread word. Which has time wore became quite apparent that wasn't going to happen. Despite that none of them felt quite like home and despite not technically being banished by the Brotherhood he never stuck around.

His journey took him all the way from the West coat to the East Coast. He even traveled into Canada and Mexico. Ran into the communists of Florida and visited the Caribbean islands where he first fell in love with islands and the sea. For they all seemed like the perfect means of escape and safe haven from his past. Thanks to his experiences in the Caribbean was when he decided to travel to Hawaii. He had many experiences and while he was sometimes willing to share them. He never told anyone why he began in the first place. To be honest he never quite knew why he never decided to stop or finally settle down somewhere either.

His travel would of been quite the lonely one if it weren't for a couple friends whom he made on the way and traveled with often at times as companions. From the old world veteran ghoul soldier turned ranger to the strangely intelligent bot with its secret mission he repaired and modified. The senile super mutant obsessed with FEV so they could regain their humanity. Sadly none of them were quite willing to leave the mainland yet and risk the journey to Hawaii so at the end he was forced to say his goodbyes.

The one trouble he could quite solve and haunted him was his family. As one of his siblings became obsessed with hunting him down for leaving and wanting to know why. With the long reach of the Brotherhood and his family in particular this proved quite the headache. After all having a power armored elite super soldier was a huge pain in the ass. There was also the damned Enclave who were less happy about losing their super genius that they had captured and coerced into working for them after realizing just how useful he was. Unlike with the Brotherhood who didn't go out of their way to target him(it was mostly his family). The Enclave remained interested in him. Not once did he find any clue about her though despite the trouble the Enclave caused him at times.

His adventures were quite something though. From the time he accidentally ended up trapped in a mirelurk nest and only escaped by tricking them into think he was one of their own. To the time he gambled with super mutants over whether or not they would eat him by claiming he knew where to find FEV. To the robot army who never realized the war ended and fought still under the command of a general turned robobrain who was bit...eccentric. There was even the time he rode a Yao Gui into battle with an army of tribal warriors against a bunch of raiders with pet deathclaws. In the end he had many stories to tell and traded/helped a lot of different people along the way. Mostly surviving by using his smarts despite his terrible luck which often gotten him into quite a few predicaments.

Slowly you stretch your sore limbs and feel several of your muscles ache and bones crack. There's silence on the outside, your room is windowless, it's hard to say what time it is.

Trying not to make a ruckus just in case everybody is asleep you carefully open your sturdy and rust covered door and step outside. As you suspected, it is night time, late night even. A mantle of tiny dots illuminate the sky above you, and the brightest of them all is the busted Moon.

On the year 2287 the moon broke apart. It is still unknown what caused it but the entire world witnessed it, and widespread chaos ensued. Some fragments fell on the planet and caused damage comparable with the Great War. Tidal waves engulfed the coastlines and lunar meteorites destroyed the inner areas, sparing few. That was forty years ago, way before you were born. The busted moon is all you have known.

You walk towards Saltgut's room and softly knock on the door. He doesn't takes long to open.

"How are you holding kid?" He says with a sympathetic smile, all you could ever muster back was a shrug.

"How do you do it? How do all of you do it?" You ask back as you tightly hug him, your voice barely a whisper.

"What do you mean?" He replied puzzled.

"Live, for so long. Ghouls... I mean...you have been in this world for hundreds of years. You must have endured what I had to endure a thousandfold. And yet...here you are, unbroken."

Saltgut broke the hug and gave you a sincere smile.

"People come and go. But as long as you remember them they will live on. It is sad to lose a friend or a loved one, but it would have been sadder to never have met them. The people around you shape you, they aided in making you what you are today. Be glad of the time that they spent with you and of all the help they gave you. Cherish their existence by remembering them." He then put his decrepit arm over your shoulder and guides you inside of his room.
>>
>>3587908

He slowly walks across the room, dragging his fingers across pictures and items of all kinds, most of the items have dates and names written or scratched on them, some even have old price tags to better identify the when and who of that particular memento.

"You have seen all my stuff. It barely has any material value but to me they are priceless reminders of other times and places, of people that have crossed my life and changed it for the better. If it weren't for them I wouldn't be here right here right now. Is it sad to have all these reminders...well yes. But it would be sadder to have nothing at all. I think that is what truly makes Ghouls turn feral. Losing all their memories and forgetting what it is to be human. As sad as they are these mementos keep me anchored to sanity. The ship itself is another memory driven treasure. If it were to sink it would drag with it all these memories. I would always chose to die with them in a heartbeat."

You had been thinking of throwing your now deactivated Explosive Collar away but his words made you change your mind, you would keep it in your room, somewhere visible as a reminder of how truly cruel the Sons of Kanaloa can be.

He then gave you a bottle of rum that had now a paper taped over it with the label "Brovob Best Moonshine" written over it.

"Let's share the drink Rast. This drink is from the Commonwealth Wasteland, only distilled in a small inn located in Diamond City. It's almost impossible to find it this far."

You take a shot glass and fill it with the transparent and pungent smelling liquid. It burns your throat, it makes you feel good, it makes you forget.

>Share stories with him, learn how to cope with what happened, do not let your inner demons affect you.

You see in the distance the coastline of some island, you still don't know which one it is. You sigh and start to think how little of the world you know in reality. You are intelligent yes, but also a total ignoramus. All you know about Hawaii has been learned from centuries old outdated books that were missing most pages. There are a few books in this room too, most are picture albums and a few fairy tales kept in here for Rickard and Kahuna, the rest are nautical maps or cheesy romantic novels set in the Golden Age of Pirates.

"Well, let's drink today for tomorrow we may be dead." You say, more or less quoting a phrase that you heard many years ago.

"Cheers to that!" Saltgut says as he pours more moonshine into your glass.

"I think you are right about valuing memories. Tell me about these people in the pictures. I want to know them too."

He smiles at you, sweetly, yet only for a short moment. Saltgut then nodded and started looking around for the pictures that bring him the biggest smiles or laughs.

His histories are really picturesque and extravagant. Perhaps he is exaggerating but honestly, knowing how weird and crazy the Wasteland can get the line between faithful and hyperbolic storytelling becomes blurry at best. He tells you about the time he dated a Super-Mutant pirate who was extremely foul mouthed yet a total romantic when in private. He laughs until crying remembering how is old crew once got so drunk that they all awakened in what once was known as Chile and how they had to work cleaning Brahmin dung for almost six month so they could rebuy the Rustbucket and return home. Some of his stories are not so sweet, but interesting nonetheless, after his first wife died of old age he got in such a drug spree that he ended in coma for several weeks, it's hard for him to tell you how inside of this deep slumber he dreamed of his wife as is nothing had ever happened, in his dream he was a human again and they both had children, it was what his subconscious would have wanted to happen, somehow he discovered that it was all a dream, things were off according to him, for example shadows were wrong, time wasn't linear and so on... ultimately his dreamworld broke down until nothing but the sea remained, he looked at his own reflection and his skin started to fall off, revealing the ghoul behind. That's when he woke up. He couldn't avoid tearing up when telling you this.
>>
>>3588257
Time passes quickly, the sun comes out and the seagulls start to squawk. By the time the rest start to wake up you have been awaken for several hours. During all this time you haven't been thinking on what you were forced to do in the volcano, the inner voice that repeatedly screamed how much of a bad person you are is gone too. Perhaps from time to time you will have relapses and remember the bad things you have done, but in these times you will think of the good times instead.

>Ask him to tutor you, to teach you how to be a sea captain in Hawaii.

"Saltgut...you mentioned before about me being captain, was that serious?"

"I... I don't see why not. Being a sea captain and having your own ship its one of the most honourable and honest works that are in here. Many people dream of having their own ship and crew."

"Yeah, I can see why." You reply thinking on Kahuna, Seabreeze, Aurore and the rest.

"There's something primal in the oceans. It calls you towards it. Not everybody is fit for the seafaring work thought. These waters can be a capricious lover. One day it can give you enough fish to fill your hold, the next day it can give you a storm that breaks your ship in two and sends everything to a watery grave..."

"Teach me." You say looking up to his eyes. "I've seen plenty of rivers and lakes, but I know nothing of the ocean."

He grabbed his captain's hat and placed it on your head.

"Very well."

While the rest of the crew got ready to fish and work the Captain and you studied the maps, how to use the navigational instruments, both modern and archaic. How to know when fishes are good to consume and when they are irradiated. How to sail the Rustbucket and how to avoid dangerous areas. To study the currents and learn to predict storms. In less than three hours of his teaching you feel as if your brain is about to explode. But you want more.

"You know, I didn't sell my fish to the Sons of Kanaloa in Lana'i, these cheapstakes barely give enough to pay for the fuel. We are now reaching Oahu, here is the nation state of Ohana, is the closest thing to any pre-War nation that you will find around. Democratic, Just and all that sensationalist crap. They aren't bad but they are not as good as they believe."

"Yeah, I know the type..." You say as you think of the New California Republic, a country that you were forced to cross to reach the west coast.

As the ship moves on you pass next to several sunken buildings, their roofs poking out of the sea, several people have set in these places, others have been turned into small docking stations or farms.

"The ruins of old Honolulu. The great war and the busted moon sank most of the coastline. This place is now for squatters and poor fishermen. Good people in most of the cases."

You are about to reach the coast, you can now even see people working and walking around. Saltgut turns to you and puts his hand over your shoulder.

"Kid, I cannot force you to stay with me. If you want a new start Honolulu is your place, its the biggest city around. The choice is yours."

>Meet me here in two weeks, we'll see where i stay then.

"I know I would go with the Rustbucket to the end of the world... but there's so much I want to see first. I think I will stay here for some time, a couple of weeks or so. Then I will decide if I return or not and even if I end staying on firm land known for sure that I will keep in touch. Every time you come to port the others and you will have a letter from me to read."

Saltgut nods in agreement, seemingly happy with your choice. He then starts to rummage across his old trove of items until he finds what he was looking for, a small archaic distress beacon, similar to the geolocator signals that the Brotherhood of Steel or other sufficiently advanced factions have used.

"What's that?" You ask him.

"A Kanaloa beacon. The prospector's best friend, and now I want you to keep it."

"You will rescue me in case I get lost or something?" You reply half joking.

"This isn't used to locate people, but stuff. The Sons give these to their prospectors and explorers. If you ever find anything good and it is too big or heavy to be carried then use this. The Sons will detect the signal and send a flying camera drone. Somebody on the other side of the screen will value your discovery and then offer you a price for everything. If you accept then they will pay you and bring other drones to transport the goods towards their factories. Of course the price won't be near enough the real value of the items, but that's what you get for working with them."

"And how will I know that they won't try to get whatever I might find by force if I don't accept their offers?"

"Superstitious bunch they are. They are a tribe, a very big one at that, but a tribe nonetheless. Stealing is bad juju. They think that misery will come to whoever defies Kanaloa. Bad winds, rotten crops, electrical mishaps and of course the loss of money."

Carefully you look at the big bulky thing and nod in understatement.

"There's something I don't get thought, you have seen how crazy the Sons of Kanaloa can get, then why work with them?" You ask as you holster the thing to your belt for easy and quick access."

"They are one of the main powerhouses of Hawaii. Without them trade would stop, the economy would crumble down and many people would suffer. They ultimately make more good than bad. They are a necessary evil."

An awkward silence follows as the ship approaches inner parts of the city. These are the Broken Channels, the parts of the city that the sea had covered after the Great War and the Moon's breaking. The streets are now flooded by several feet of water, creating canals that only smaller ships can travel. Looking up you can see people in the old buildings, now covered in greenery and vines due to the high humidity and temperatures. Some bridges have been built among the buildings, letting people cross without needing to go down. The city's old traffic lights have been repaired and now are powered by hanging cables instead of underground ones. The ships and canoes follow the indications of the street signals allowing for everybody to travel without creating jams or accidents. Looking down you can see across the crystalline waters the remnants of hundreds of cars and skeletons, now covered in seaweed, molluscs and coral, now having become the house of countless fish species.

Once the ship reaches the local market and docks Saltgut goes towards the main deck and takes a big breath of the local air, not as pure as the one that could be found in the open seas, not as contaminated as the air of Lana'i. You understand him, this place isn't paradise, but it is the closest thing to it that you have ever seen.

"Alright everybody! Help me discharge the food and to move it our stall."

Despite wanting to explore and travel you are well mannered and help them before going your own way. You discharge boxes after boxes of frozen fish, fishes that they would have been forced to throw from the board if you hadn't helped to fix the refrigeration system. By the time you all were finished it was past mid day. The captain was paid for his goods and all of you went to a local restaurant to eat, nothing too fancy, greasy Brahmin burgers, tato fries and a cherry nuka cola for you. It was when everybody was full and sated that you stated your intentions to the rest.

"I think I will travel for a while, I don't know if I will return or not. But I want you all to know that I'm really grateful for you saving my life and that in these few days you have become really good friends and I think I can even consider you as part of my family. If people were as half as good as you all are then this world would be a much better place."

Everybody cheers to that and Kahuna cant avoid crying. This breaks your heart and you end hugging and patting her head while promising her that you will meet her again soon. Then she ultimately calms down and ends falling asleep in your arms.

>-100 Insanity.
>>
>>3590400

You all pay and leave the restaurant, Rickard carrying Kahuna in his arms as if she were weightless.

"Not so fast aimless tourist." Starts to say Saltgut.

Aimless tourist? Huh, I guess it describes you. You are still unsure if you like it or not.

"You didn't return my hat kid." He continues, pointing at your head.

"Oh, shit, sorry. Forgot I was wearing it." You apologise.

"It's my lucky hat, you will need it more than me. Keep it, return it to me when you come back to us or send me enough caps to buy a new one if you decide to stay on land."

You want to speak, but know that he won't take a no for an answer, so you simply nod at him after a while. It is an old leather tricorn hat, possibly even from the pirate era and half a thousand years old knowing how wild Saltgut's life has been.

>Captain's Lucky Hat.
+2 Luck

You bid farewell and start to walk out, or more correctly up, up towards the first floor of the building you were at so you could reach the bridges and advance, don't know where yet, just advance. You truly are aimless after all.

The market you are at is an old parking lot. The locals were clever to choose this place, it was mostly empty, had plenty of free space and the cars that were blocking the way could easily be pushed into the waters below. Now, there are plenty of stalls were the cars used to park, the few vehicles left in here are used either to generate power with their engines or as an storage container.

People walk around and even if the place is crowded there's enough space to walk without feeling your personal space invaded. Not far from where you are a ghoul lies on top of a box, showing everybody an unworking Pip-Boy and trying to get the people's attention to sell them, to no luck. The things are busted, and these are fine pre-War tech, not something common like a toaster, these are miniature computers, despite the people wanting them they know that finding the pieces to repair them will be nigh impossible and that even if you find someone capable of repairing them it would be incredibly costly. You get closer, perhaps you can get one for yourself and tinker with it later.

"So you see!" The ghoul screams in a thick and hard to locate accent. He is a ghoul like Saltgut, but this one seems to have been way more affected by radiation than he was. Half his flesh is gone, parts of his skull, ribs and spine a are completely visible and even sunbleached. He is hard to look at.

"I live in the edge of the city. I was having a quiet pint with the wife sitting in the balcony and suddenly in the distance I see in front of me house a box coming outta nowhere. Floating from the bottom of the ocean I say. I grab me canoe and paddle there to get the box. Pry it open and find all these Pip-Laddies. None of them work but I kno that down 'here must be more! I'm looking for brave gents that wanna go down there and search them. I will pay dearly!"

Most of the people start to think that he's a madman. Without power or a way of working these Pip-Boys are nothing but paperweights. It doesn't takes long for most of the people to disperse, the few ones that remain seem to have seen its good share of wasteland and its horrors, their thousand yard stares and scars prove so.

"How much?" You ask him, trying to focus in the less hideous parts of his body.

"I I don't know how much will I pay yet, we will see, depends on what we find down there." He replies, seemingly surprised.

"No. How much for one of the Pip-Boys."

"Oh, not interested in the treasure hunt heh?... How much do you have?"

You grab your money bag and start to count.

"Fifty two caps."

"Then the Pip-Boy costs sixty." He replies smugly.

"Fuck off you scammer." Says a girl angry at his response, he lost the only other person that seemed interested in buying. His smug smile quickly disappeared.

"I know there's more things down there. Me theory is that there's a cargo ship in the bottom of the ocean, close to what once was the coast. It must have containers on it and one opened, and from it floated this box. There has to be more, who knows what, but more. Boxes don't appear outta nowhere for no good reason innit?"

"What if I repair it for you? I repair two and take one. By selling a working Pip-Boy you will have enough to eat for the rest of the year." You counter reply.

He seemed to consider it for a while and focused on your appearance, you were somewhat odd looking, not too odd for a wastelander but odd nonetheless. Your rocket board, Laser Pistol and Kanaloa locator seemingly ended convincing him.

"You seem savvy enough, alright, grab one, I have some tools in that box, try to fix it if ye dare. Make it work and it will be for ya. Break it even more and then you will have to get down under the waves for me."

Success

You go to the back of his stall and see that he had apparently several nets around his house and simply sold everything he caught, from half rotten fishes to microfusion cells, all dangerously mixed and contaminating each other.

Rolling your eyes you grab several of his old, rusty and mouldy tools and start to tinker with the Pip-Boy. It is a Pip-Boy 2000 Mark VI. Years ago you found a Pip-Boy manual that explained the basic functioning and how to troubleshoot the most typical problems, half of the book was directed to users with little to no technical skills and solved every day problems and glitches, the second half explained in detail its inner workings and secrets, it was directed to the Vault Personnel and explained how to unlock special features for the doctors, security personnel and how to implement a special Overseer mode that unlocked everything and showed you the full potential of that miraculous machine. The manual also explained how depending of the geographical area the local Vaults would receive one model type or the other. The manual was tailored for Pip-Boy 3000 models, not this one. Hopefully their guts will be similar enough for you to work on.

Carefully you unscrew open the different parts and see that most of the metallic cover has caught rust and has been drenched in salt and sand, it cannot be saved nor repaired, forcing you to toss it away. Luckily the nuclear power cell has been spared from the corrosive effects of the saltwater, so not all is lost. You dry everything as best as you can and patch up the connections that were fried or have been damaged.

You boot it up and suddenly see it coming to life, green letters illuminating the screen as the Bios and other computer subroutines start to kick in. There are a few glitches here and there and a couple of times it blitzes and sends sparks flying away. Still, the thing manages to hold up and not explode so you are happy with the result.

"Here it is." You say as you show him the caseless Pip-Boy.

"W-what's that! You broke it!"

"Hell no! I just threw the case away, it was way too damaged, it would have made the Pip-Boy uncomfortable to wear and hard to use. Some of the knobs would not be able to turn or work."

"You are the only knob here!"
>>
>>3590684
You put on the Pip-Boy to show him that it is perfectly operable if only a bit hard to wield and he gets even madder. The guy is a nutjob. With that said he kicked you out of his shop, making a fool of himself and returning to his pitiful attempts at selling his useless junk and toxic food. Well, at least you got a makeshift Pip-Boy out of this.

>Makeshift Pip-Boy
• Map: Allows you to travel more easily, you cant get lost with it.

• Status Display: Tells you what parts of your body are damaged, useful when contacting a doctor.
• Inventory: Tells you what are you carrying without you needing to check your bags or pockets.
• Jailbroken VATS: +2 to all combat rolls.

You flip him the bird and leave with your board, not long afterwards your path is blocked by the same people that were giving the nasty ghouls strange looks.

"I like your style." Says a tall amazonian looking woman, fit and imposing. "We were never interested in that fool's offer. We just wanted to be sure that nobody accepted his terms." She was over a head taller than you, her dark skin glistening in sweat and full of tribal tattoos that covers her up to her face. On her back she has two massive rocket powered super sledges. You had to use one of these in one occasion and could barely lift it with both arms, you are totally sure that she can double wield them with ease thought.

Many others surround you. Ghouls, Psykers, Humans... all scary looking and wielding deadly weapons and wearing powerful suits of armor regardless of their race.

"Why?" You say, trying not to look imposing or defiant.

"Because he was right, there's a treasure down there. And we will be the ones who get to it. Someone like him wouldn't know what to do with all that money and would sooner or later attract the attention of bad people and end dead sooner or later. We are doing him a favour really."

They just confessed to you where, more or less, a treasure was located. So, they either seek to let you join their expedition or either just want to be sure that you wouldn't become a loose end and kill you right there right now.

"Guy is a douche. I won't cry if he ends penniless." You add with a smirk, trying to have something in common with them, trying to sound amicable and relatable.

She smiles at you, showing a set of chromed dentures, fangs carved in tribal details.

"Nice." She says back, giving you a sweet yet creepy smile.

>Fuck these guys, return to the Rustbucket as soon as you have the chance. Hide in there until you have left the port.
>Listen to them, see if it is possible for you to recover the treasure on your own or with the Rustbucket and tell the others about it. Saltgut deserves a new ship, help him pay for it.

"I'm in." You reply back.

"Good, because we are missing a techie and our plan needs someone like you. Follow us."

The group then walks towards the sea level and hop on into what they call a Carboat, the most common mode of transportation in this city, not truly a car, not truly a boat, a somewhat working mixture of the two that doesn't manages to become better than their sum. The carboat is hot and crowded, smells weird and feels like it is about to sink at any moment. You thought that the Rustbucket was well... a rust filled bucket ready to break down at any time, now you know better, this is true decrepitude.

Slowly you are driven towards unknown streets, made to cross tunnels and sewers until you reach what seems to be their base.

"We are the Cutthroat Cunts." The leader says after getting down.

"Also known as the Cunthroats!" Screams one from behind.

"Jared for the last time, that name sucks! You suck! Enough already!"

Now that you see her and the rest of the group closer you notice that they are younger than you expected, around your age, some even closer to Kahuna's age than yours. All that mighty looking appearance was now gone, it was all an act, a facade for you to accept their terms.

Their base is an old warehouse, accessed across a hole in a wall caused during the nuclear apocalypse. It isn't a bad place, the floor has a couple of feet of water and there are several shelves that have been used to store what they find or stacked together to build walkable areas to sleep and stay on, there are a few couches, books and games around too. There are children in there... but no adults at all. It then clicks you, the group that took you in is made by orphans, kids that had nowhere else to go and formed this little gang. You look around and see little to no food and hungry faces all around. The eldest of the group are trying to find a way of keeping the next generation of fatherless children all fed and warm.

"Thievery is very severely punished here." The leader says once she notices that you have made the connections. "We want to teach them that there are other ways."

On a flipped desk they have put several maps, pictures and markers and despite being more amateurish than you expected they are surely professional when it comes to this quest.

"So...how's the treasure hunting going?" You ask, trying to break the ice.

"Good, she answers. We know all what we have to do to take it to the surface. Thanks to you Operation Golden Booty is a go."

Some of the children smile and wave at you, other seem to be so hungry that they barely perceive that you are standing there in front of them.

"Alright, tell me what is the plan."

"We need a Power Armor, doesn't matters the model as long as it is complete. There is a gladiatorial arena not far from here, the prize is a working T-45 power armor, rusty to hell and back but working nonetheless. Our scouts have also discovered that a group of Raiders in the northern coasts have also found a suit, unknown model but it is complete, the Raiders haven't managed to get it to work yet."

The amazonian girl then grabbed a notebook and started to look at the different steps of her plan.

"We will then need to find the X-46 sealant and a working air recycling chip, the sealant will be used to keep the water out of the joints and other sensible areas and the chip will keep the user with enough air for this mission. We have both objects located, sadly the sealant is in an abandoned factory filled with Ferals and the air chip is kept by corrupted robots. It won't be easy."

If someone as strong as her truly believes a fight to be hard, then it will surely be hard as hell.

"Since there's risk of failure there will be three people kept in the surface, one will control the engine that will link the power-armor with a chain, in case anything goes wrong two pulls and they will be dragged back. Another will have an air pump, sadly the engine for this one is busted so it requires manual pumping, as the strongest in the group I think I should be the one who does this task. Lastly, another person will use a ham radio to communicate with the Power-Armor and use some nautical and city maps to guide it towards the treasure."

"Sounds easy." You say.

"It's easy in paper, it's never easy in reality." She answers back.

People around here wear light clothing, the humidity and high temperatures don't allow for thick coats or furs, only light jackets at most. These kids not even that. Old tattered pyjamas, bandages instead of socks and nasty underwear are common sights here.

"My name is Dillinger Rast. I come from America, from the mainland I mean. Seeking new ventures, greener pastures and riches. I uh... well I do well with repairing and scientific stuff. Nice to meet you all."

They all greeted you and started to introduce one by one, removing the pieces of police riot gear and metal armor that they wore to better show you their faces.

"My name is Jared. I like to drive and fly. Ironically enough ships are totally out of my reach, I've tried many times but always ended crashing sooner or later." He says as he shrugs. He's a scrawny kid, around sixteen years old, with black skin and bald, his eyes completely cerulean blue, he's not completely human.

A ghoulette teenage girl comes then, excited about introducing herself. "I-I-I am Sally! N-N-nice to meet you! I am the sniper and scout, I k-k-know these streets better than anyone so feel free to ask!" She says stuttering, she seemed to have some little neurological problems as she also had ticks, she better be a good shot if she has all these involuntary muscular impulses.

Then came a sickly looking man, he was probably only a few years older than you but his expression was several years older aged due to stress. He had wrinkles, gray hairs and dark bags under his eyes. "I am..." He says as he yawns. "Doctor Geller. I work at the local hospital and also take care of these kids." He then leans towards your ear and proceeds to whisper. "I think one of them its mine, I'm not totally sure thought. I...after learning of their discovery I just couldn't leave them here."

Finally, the tall amazonian leader stepped up.

"Well...I am Asuka." She firmly says. "I am the leader and main warrior here. You better not let us down."

You promise her that you will do your best and that they will end earning the treasure and helping these kids.

"Look, lives are in danger here. We cannot take care of them all. We were really lucky when we found this place and the cache of police armors and weapons that it had but we cannot live from gunpowder and kevlar. We need food, and we need it pronto."
>>
>>3591107

>"I'm a tinkerer, is there anything I can help with around here?"

Asuka nods and then starts to show you different objects, mostly electrical outlets, radios, lamps and table games that had broken after the kids played too hard with them. You start to work and before you notice it becomes night time, they leave a hot plate of wellington steak next to you. Just as tiredness starts to creep over your body you yawn and then feel a soft blanket and a hug from behind, its Asuka, she kisses you on your head, perhaps she didn't even think about it and did it she does with the rest of the kids. "You are a godsend." She whispers to your ear as she proceeds to move away.

While the main warehouse is used to pass the time and nap it is too cold to sleep in it. It's big enough to generate cold currents and the water underneath only helps lowering the temperature. The place has some other areas, small rooms that are used to sleep and have some privacy. It is time for you to go to bed.

>Sleep in there, even if they consider this as cold you have spent colder nights back in 'merica.

Thanks for running. I know this question is a spoiler but I’m still curious, will the Hawaiian BOS and Hawaiian Enclave have different power armor then usual? Also how many weapons have you thought of using for this quest?
>>
>>3591158
>Thanks for running.
Thanks to you for playing. Today was kind of a slow day. Next ones will be more thrilling!

>Hawaiian BOS and Hawaiian Enclave
Here's why both factions are present in Hawaii and what Power Armor will use. Spoilers galore.

At the end of Fallout 2 the Chosen one destroyed the Poseidon Oil rig, some Enclave went to the East (The ones that appear in Fo3) a few others stayed (As seen in New Vegas) and others went further west, towards Hawaii. The BoS ended taking the PMV Valdez (The ship that the Chosen One used in Fallout 2 to reach the Poseidon Oil Rig) and repaired it to make longer journeys, they went behind the Hawaiian splinter of the Enclave but were really lagging behind, as they required several years to fix the ship. By the time they reached the Enclave had already rooted itself on the Islands. The BoS will use T-45 and T-51 they won't use T-60 suits of PA as according to the lore they were mostly issued to the East. The Enclave will use X-01, X-02 and Hellfire Power armor. There will also be other suits of PA like the Raider one, and another used by the Sons of Kanaloa, this last one is new, doesn't appears in any Fallout Game.

>Also how many weapons have you thought of using for this quest?
Well, I don't want this to be like in the videogames in where you can carry dozens of guns. Here you will be limited to a few ones. Perhaps two rifles and a knife, two guns and a sword, depends on the size of the weapons. But if you are wondering about weapon types and such, well, they are easy to stat so I can make them on the go. If you have question ideas then go ahead and tell me, as long as they are not super OP I might add them.

Most psykers can control one element or more, some have more esoteric powers, other don't even develop them at all. Psyker powers must be learned as racial perks, have the risk of mutating someone's appearance even further and can become incredibly disastrous in case the dice roll is botched.

You can read about the psyker powers here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bDWe2DsgK5dr-WPCZx9wpKEAu7JyG-8biuiWqaOBrRM/edit?usp=sharing from the page 14 onwards.

I have time to write one more reply before heading to bed!

>>3591114
>Try to find an empty room and crash in there. Sleep for now.

Tired and cold you stand up and stretch your body until your tendons and muscles feel like they are about to snap. You crack your knuckles and neck and then head towards the first empty room that you see, find in there a cum encrusted mattress and are so tired that you simply turn it around and drop yourself in there after surrounding yourself with the blanket that Asuka gave you. You fall asleep so fast and have such a dreamless night that for you it doesn't even feels as if you had slept at all. You feel refreshed thought, not as well rested as in the Rustbucket's bed, but still better that if you had slept on the floor.

You leave your room and see the sky across the holes in the building's roof. Today is a sunny morning, barely no clouds in the sky. You go downstairs to the place were the water and the amenities are and see several kids playing with the few toys that you repaired. Asuka is there on the makeshift floor sitting on a rug and eating some cereal with the kids. She's the oldest of the group, she might have been the one who started it all, she can be old enough to be the mother of some of these kids. As you pass by she gives you a toothy smile, his chromed teeth now looking flashy and not menacing at all.

"So, today is the day?" You ask her, as you get yourself a fresh pear to eat from a nearby fruit bowl.

"We cannot delay this, we have no reason to do so. What do you think we should do, fight in the arena or attempt to steal the raider's power armor?" She asks you, it seems that the rest are too green and young to be asked for advice. Despite being kind of weak too she seemed to respect you for managing to travel all the way from the mainland, if only she knew what truly happened...

"On one side..." You start to say "...if we go to the arena we will have to fight to the death, we risk a lot. But if we end winning we will have a working Power-armor by the end of the day. On the other side killing the raiders would be easier, they are not in their base but around the suit of power armor that they found, they might be tired, sleep deprived and angry, and we can sneak around them and snipe and kill them before they can counter attack. Sadly this plan might take us god knows how many days, the Power Armor that we might find might not work at all and even if it all works perhaps its Fusion Core might not have enough charge to make the travel back."

"And using the carboat is unthinkable too, it isn't strong enough to traverse the coastal waves and is too feeble to carry the Power-Armor... damn it. What should we do?"

You ponder about the different options, variables and things that could go wrong. After sighing you simply ask a question that you know she will reject, just to be sure anyway.

"Why not making two teams, one participating in the arena, the other going towards the raiders."

"We are a small group, we cannot risk spreading too thin and becoming even smaller." Asuka says sympathetically.

You nod and agree.

"Then I think our best option is to take it from the Raiders. Do we have anything around here to aid us?"

"As I said, this was a police warehouse. There were armours, tear gas and flashlight grenades, police batons and shotguns. Most of the good stuff was sold to feed the kids. There was something that we never sold no matter how dire our situation was, we knew this would be our ace card."

She then took you up across some stairs and towards an adjacent room where an Armored Personnel Carrier stood, it had not been affected much by the waters or destruction but it seemed to have been in repair process when the bombs fell and has stood there, unfinished since then.

"Think you can fix it? We can get fuel and Jared knows how to drive it. Repair it and the power armor will be ours by the end of the night."

You get to work and grab a wielding mask and as may tool as you can find. Most of the pieces are lying around, others have to be fixed with jury rigs and makeshift replacements. During the first hours you are totally alone but after the rest learn of your intentions they join you to aid as best as they can, cleaning your brown from sweat, holding pieces that need to be bolt and passing you tools so you don't have to stand up every few minutes. The times they cannot help the kids and the others simply paint the vehicle with colorful motiffs and designs or simply chat and keep you entertained. The final result is not perfect, but you are really happy and proud with the result, and so seem to be the others. You even managed to repair the main cannon, but not the two smaller ones. You stab the ignition keyhole with a screwdriver and turn it, feeling a vibration shortly after and hearing a powerful roar afterwards, the engine rumbling in desires to move forwards.

There are cheers around you, the kids that are not napping high five with you and a few ones even gift you their candy. It isn't until you have finished that you notice how hungry and thirsty you are. You eat a well deserved meal while Jared and the others get the military carrier ready and install weapons and ammo on it.

"Today is the day." You say to Asuka, repeating to her the words that you had said this morning. She nods at you with a sweet smile, her lower lip quivers softly, she is nervous.

Without words you assure her that everything will be alright and help her send the kids to bed early. Tonight, they would sleep alone. Once inside the APC you turn on the radio to make everybody feel less nervous and make the journey more entertaining. Luckily for you there a pretty good soon playing right now: https://youtu.be/3_rVjPPS09g?list=PLx1_zV97wi1ZmAifIz6ImvzA6TNwHbOK3

Jared is driving, feeling extremely happy of having a vehicle that he can safely crash for once. The engine is roaring like a beast as he kicks the pedals and changes gears like a madman. Despite the bumpy road and many sudden ascends and descents the good Doctor is sleeping soundly and even snores loud enough to drown out to radio from time to time. Sally the tic filled sniper ghoul teen is sitting in the co-pilot's seat and thoroughly cleaning her weapons and softly kissing the tip of every one of her large rifle bullets, now that you see her completely focused you notice that she doesn't has any strange tics nor uncontrollable movements.

"It's kind of a bummer that this is my first journey across a beautiful Hawaiian island and I must spend it on a windowless vehicle."

Asuka laughs at your remark and then gives you a soft and sweet smile.
>>
>>3593765

"When we are rich I will take you to all my favorite spots. Some are truly breathtaking."

"I can't wait." You say reclining backwards and covering your face with your tricorn hat, hoping to get at least ten minutes of sleep.

"Contact!" Says Sally, using the scope of her rifle as a makeshift spyglass.

Asuka then froze, she is strong and powerful, but she is still green and a novice in these aspects. She grabs your hand and looks at you with a worried sick expression that it desperately asking you for instruction or guidance.

You moved towards the front windows and saw a dark beach only illuminated by the stars, the busted moon and a few burning barrels here and there. From time to time you could see sparks and even bullets. The raiders had gotten desperate and were now attempting to breach open the suit any mean necessary. You have no time to waste.

As you got closer you eyes started to adapt more to the local darkness until you could see pretty well what was going on around. Jared drove you all and carefully stopped and silenced the engines when you were around a hundred feet from your objective.

There was a crashed vertibird on the ground, crashed by the electromagnetic pulse of the nuclear bombs and and ending completely devoured by the waves and the sand, leaving it untouched for generations to come. Around the crashed vehicle there are a few skeletons, the original crew that travelled by air when the bombs fell and died during the impact or drowned under the water.

Despite being around ten Raiders only one is attempting to breach inside, the rest have taken these old skeletons and crucified them to use them as practice targets, it's a good thing that they are wasting ammo on these old bones, by the time you reach them they might have only a single magazine to spare or not even that. Every now and then you can hear a ding and see how the one who was attempting to get inside the Power Armor starts to insult and ultimately shrugs and moves away, letting another Raider give it a try. Apparently the one who manages to open it will be the one to keep it.

After halting the vehicle everybody but Jared gets out and start to act. Sally is on top, crouching on one knee and with her rifle ready to shot at anyone who gets in front of her sights. Asuka and you are ready to attack too, her with her dual super sledges, you with your laser pistol. Doctor Geller stays behind, close to the back doors, ready to grab Sally by the ankles or Asuka and I and push us into the interior of the vehicle to receive medical treatment in case we get severely damaged.

>Everybody attack!

Screw being subtle. "Attack!" You scream as you raise one fist into the air.

Sally is the first one, already having a target on her sights. Her bullet flies loudly, breaks the air and leaves behind a trail of smoke. Almost instantaneously it violently lands on a Raider's shoulder, a raider that was practising his marksmanship with an automatic 10 mm pistol and shooting one of the skeletons. The bullet completely shatters his clavicle, arm and shoulder bones. The raider's arm and hand immediately grips and lock in pain as he falls down to bleed out to death. The trauma and pain forces his pistol to continuously shoot and as none of the Raiders have time to react an unlucky girl is immediately caught by a stray bullet that shatters her skull into an explosion of blood and gore.

Two down, eight more to go.

With grace Asuka hops into the APC's chassis and jumps into the main group of Raiders. She descends like an enraged Deathclaw as bullets fly around her. When she lands even the APC shakes. She immediately swings one of her super sledges and decapitates an old ghoul raider with ease, its head still attached to his spine as it separates from its body and flies away. Another raider tries to attack her from behind, jumping onto her back and attempting to sucker punch her with a power fist. Luckily she manages to react in time and grabs the annoying raider off her back and throws him onto the floor. The raider falls on his back, before he has time to stand up Asuka swings her other super-sledge directly onto the poor guy's crotch. It was such a powerful impact that the everything around shakes and the Raider's head fucking explodes.

It is such a bloody mess that the most intelligent members of the Raider gang simply turn around and run for their lives. Still, a raider girl stays behind, perhaps she has a deathwish, perhaps she is too stupid, perhaps she is too drugged to understand what's going on, perhaps its the three at the same time.

Seven down. One more to go.

You shoot your laser pistol and manage to land a couple of hits on the lady that was initially attempting to break into the Power-Armor.

"Fuck off!" She screams in pain in a surprisingly high pitched voice. "I've been waiting for hours! I took the shortest straw and thus was the last one to try! Fuck off and let me get the armor for myself!"

She apparently was not stupid, just angry at the world. She had been waiting for her turn to attempt to open the armor and just when it was her time you and your group appeared and sent all to hell.

"I know my way with technology and explosives and if you all don't leave me alone I swear to Kanaloa that I will fucking detonate the armor's Fusion Core and send all of you to hell!"

This made everybody stop on its tracks.

"Can she do that?" Asuka asks you, her muscles ready to pound her at any time.

"It is possible. It would explode like a fat-man, possibly even more intensely. We would also suffer radiation burns." You add.

"We only have enough Rad-Away for one of us." Says the Doctor.

"And what would happen to the armor?" Asuka asks.

"Completely totalled, and even if we managed to make it work, something damn near impossible, it would still be highly irradiated, too radioactive to be used by anyone who is not a ghoul."

"Lucky thing I'm here then!" Sally adds cheerfully, pouting at the Raider girl and aiming between her eyes with her long rifle.

>She's probably bluffing. Kill her together.
>If she's a techie then she might be useful to get the treasure. Ask her to join your team in exchange of sparing her life.
>Offer her money, caps or whatever she might want in exchange of peacefully giving you the armor.

"Just one thing before you blow everything to hell. How did you plan to do it? Perhaps overcharging the port modules of the fusion core by short circuiting them using a piezonucleic resonance field attuned to the natural frequencies of the fusion core's buffer relays?"

"W-what?" She asks flabbergasted. "No, that's fucking dumb! That would only generate an excessive outburst of multi-spectral wave modulations that would fry the circuits. I readied a slow reaction of the acidic deposits inside of the inner plates of the Fusion Core. It only needs a small hit with something sharp to make it work again, but hit it too hard and it will all explode. Depends on you."

You quickly gave a glare to Sally, ordering her to shoot when she was distracted enough.

"Oh, yeah, that's clever." It really was. "What about all the sand, you wouldn't want to travel with all that sand inside of you, pressing against your body and getting inside of your clothes and asscrack. I was thinking of perhaps taking the armor to the coast here, let the waves clean everything nice and shiny."

"Are you out of your fucking mind?" The Raider girl replies back, rolling her eyes and moving away from the armor and raises her arms to the sky in desperation. Then, before she could look back at you and explain why you were wrong Sally's bullet blew her head away. Leaving nothing but a loose gore filled jaw hanging and a twitching tongue.

You feel kind of sad, she was a really marvellous mind, equal to yours perhaps. A pity she had to die.

>Loot the raiders, see if they have anything good.

>Have Sally stay on overwatch and everyone else loot the raiders while you go take a closer look at the armor

"Sally, hop on the APC, keep an eye for any incoming enemy, the raiders might come back with reinforcements. The rest, loot anything valuable from them."

You in the meanwhile go and work with the power armor, it has some rust and scratches here and there, but for the most part the raiders didn't managed to do any remarkable damage.

"They won't come back." Asuka says as she gets close to you and watches what you do.

"How so?" You reply, welcoming her company.

"Oahu is raider free for the most part. Ohana might be an oppressive and overly bureaucratic nation but they know how to keep the Raiders away." She said. "These guys were surely pirates, they must have returned to their ship and scuttled back to the Old World Mourn. They knew that sooner or later an Ohanan patrol would discover them, that's why they were in such a hurry to get the armor working."

As the raider confessed you the armor's fusion core needed percussive maintenance, speaking plainly, hitting it until it worked. Sadly this was a delicate process. By slapping it you would release a couple of acid drops onto the Core's inner workings, the acid would destroy all the rust and dirt that has caught inside and wouldn't concentrated enough to turn the entire thing into something chemically unstable and explosive. Hit too hard and you would release too much acid, sending the Fusion Core into a violent meltdown.

Sweat drops fell from your frown, you now were more nervous than you had been during combat.

"Is anything wrong?" Asuka asked as she sees you doubt and your hand tremble. You quickly explained what was needed to do, as plainly as possible.

"Wow, can't help you then, I will surely be too hard with it. I'm no good for delicate jobs."

This was something that only you could do.

Carefully, you spit on your hands and close your eyes as you slap the Fusion Core.

For the first seconds, nothing happens, you get ready to run for your life but then, a miracle happens. The armor opens up and from it an old skeletal soldier falls down. Asuka gets spooked by the sudden appearance of the skeleton and seeing it fall down next to her and she instinctively hugs and gets behind you. Then when seeing that it is nothing but some old bones she proceeds to blush in embarrassment, clears her throat and backs away. I

The armor looks really inviting, by giving a quick glance to Asuka you can tell that she is too tall to use it. You know that these parameters can be altered with common tools to allow people from most normal height ranges to use them. Sadly, right now you lack tools so she will have to wait for now. Luckily, you are the perfect height.

It's a T-45 armor, rusted but perfectly operable. The servos look fine and most of the sand that gathered has already fall down. You hop onto it and after putting your two feet inside you feel the different mechanical systems kick in and the armor close to surround you with its thick steel. Your hat is a little bit pressed against the helmet and your makeshift Pip-Boy scratches against the inner padding, you know thought that once you are back at the base you will be able to connect it to the armor. It won't give you any real advantage or increased functionality but it will at least be protected from harm and the elements like water.

"Do you know how to use it? Don't you need training?" Asks Jared from the APC.

"Older models required training, more modern ones became intuitive, the last generations could even have artificial intelligences installed on them and work without an user inside." You reply, hoping for this model to be of the intuitive type.

You raise your arm and you don't even need to force it for the servos to guess what type of movement you were planning to do and follow you as if it were a second skin. You have been incredibly lucky.

"This one is the intuitive type." You reply back giving them a thumbs up with the armor's mechanical fingers and letting them know as they couldn't guess looking from the outside.

>T-45 Power armor:
• +2 Strength
• -2 Agility
• +1 Charisma
• -20 HP received from all damage sources
• -5 Radiation points received

The journey back is uneventful, everybody was tired, even you, the doctor is of course the first one to fall asleep and soon enough the rest except Jared and you followed. Before you can notice it you are once more on their base. You get away from the armor and simply fall down on the bed. Tired as hell, tomorrow you will have to get the Sealant and Air recycling chips, it will be a very long day.

>That will be for today! Thanks for playing! I really enjoyed this session.

Tomorrow is my birthday, so I won't be able to run. From the 24th to the 28th of June I will be in Northern Ireland spending some days with my gf. So I won't be able to run either. This will surely be the last update before the quest reaches page then and gets archived, sorry!

Next time I run, It will surely be on a new thread.

As always:
