Aurora City. A small city with the population of just over 100,000. The city is flanked by a massive lake and is surrounded by miles and miles of Boreal forests. The summers are cold and the winters are colder, but this gives way to the cities main attraction the beautiful Aurora Borealis that paints the night skies of the city.

Because of the wealth of fish and lumber along with the cities nights it had brought big businesses to the once quiet town into the growing city it is now. One of the early businesses that made the city what it is today is owned by none other than your loving husband. You were high school sweet hearts that married shorty after high-school. Your husband bought a big beautiful 5 bedroom home in a gated community called Silver Heights. Great neighbors, great schools nearby, great backyard, great everything. You both moved here when you were Newly weds and decided to set your roots down and started a family that grew with the city.

Your first born was a boy, your son Joseph, who you had when you were 18 . Joseph was a gifted kid and grew up to be very smart. He looked up to his dad his whole life and aspires to be a businessman just like him. Although that changed when he hit puberty and started to date a troublesome girl. Ever since he met her you and your husband struggled to get Joseph to care about his studies or school in general. He often comes home late in the night and talks back to you both constantly. He even died his hair from the family golden blonde to a deep black. You have suspicions about him abusing drugs and alcohol. Though you've never caught him.

Your second born was a girl, your daughter Celeste, who you had when you were 20. Celeste proved to be a total mommy's girl. She looks up to you the most. You and Celeste formed a tight mother daughter bond early on and you pushed her into a lot of extra-curricular activities which she turned out to love. She can play three different instruments, speak 2 different languages besides English, is a star soccer player, and manages to bring home straight A's every semester. Even now in the middle of her high school career she trusts you immensely and asks you for advice constantly. However she seems to be attracted to bad boys. She tells you not to worry, but you constantly do.

Your last born was an accident. Your son named Trevor. You had him when you were 28. Trevor is still young but is a sweet boy, he looks up to his older brother most of the time and tries desperately to hang out with him and be just like him. His brother however loathes him and ignores little Trevor all the time. Trevor is very impressionable and has begun to act out like his brother despite your attempts. Although you are able to get through to him at times he needs a more imposing figure to loom up to.

Joseph will always be your precious little boy and it hurt you to see him so distant, that's why you decided to put your all into getting through to him for his senior year.

Thankfully you succeeded more than you thought you possibly could! It turned out that Joseph felt like he was being ignored by his father and was showing out to get his attention. But after seeing your attempts to get close to him he dropped his craving fro his fathers attention to craving your own. In the summer before his senior year he discovered his passion for music. He had always had voice but when you two grew closer you and your husband paid for him to get guitar and vocal lessons. When school started he made tons of friends and pulled his grades way up. He even started a little band. He looks to you for moral support so you attend every show he does and are always there when he need you.

While you got closer to Joseph you lost ground with your other two children. Since you pay more attention to Joseph, Celeste has become extremely jealous. Her grades have started to slip and she has started to attend senior parties. She is still the star soccer player of Aurora High but she has been warned about showing up late to practice and bullying other players. She even has a new boyfriend. He is a 19 year old senior that was held back last year and causes more trouble than Joseph ever did.

As for Trevor, he remained kind of simple. Without his brother treating him as he usually did he no longer seeks his attention but just goes about his own things. Trevor spends a lot of his time either in his room or outside in the forest nearby. You have had your hands full with Celeste and Joseph so you aren't sure what exactly he gets up too but at the very least he hasn't caused any huge issues.

Now with that sorted we can jump in.

BEEP BEEP BEEP

The sound of your daily routine Beeps to life. You turn over, raise your sleep mask, and look at the alarm clock blaring with the red 6:00 AM blinking. It's Monday morning

You quickly slap the snooze button and hop out of bed. First task of the day is a shower you slip your slippers on and begin walking down the main hall and knocking on each of your children's doors with the usual wake up call.

After that you come back into the master bedroom and begin your shower and toothbrush routine which only takes about 25 minutes. You spend 5 minutes dressing yourself and laying out your husbands suit and tie for him and reset the alarm to go off in another 15 minutes.

Then its off to the kitchen where on your way you do your second round of bangs on your children's doors to which you earn tired groans each time. In the kitchen you start the coffee and get to work on breakfast. After about a half hour breakfast is finished. You put the food on the table where you know each member of the household sits.

Before you forget you step outside and collect the newspaper for your husband, waving to your neighbors as they also come out. You come back in and set the newspaper at the head of the table where your husband now sits.

You both exchange a kiss and you call down the children for breakfast. Joseph and Celeste come down but Trevor for some reason doesn't.

As You, Joseph, and Celeste sit down and start eating breakfast the usual bickering commences. Your husband deep in his paper blissfully ignores the two but you catch him giving you a knowing glance. He is starting to get annoyed and he wants you to do something about them.

As they bicker back and forth you sigh in annoyance and prepare to break them up. Your husband winks at you before going back to his paper.

"That guy is a fucking asshole! How many times do I have to tell you to stay away from that loser!" Joseph shouts in frustration

"Your the fucking loser how many people went your last "Show" oh that's right 10! And half of them walked out half way through!" Celeste shouts back with equal frustration

You can tell that last one really stung him. You snap at both of them "Knock it off both of you!"

Both of them immediately stop. Joseph mumbles "Whatever" under his breath before continuing to eat his cereal.

Celeste stares daggers at Joseph while he eats and doesn't even touch her food.

You reach over and give her a rub on the head, she turns to you puzzled but you give her the knock it off look and she apologetically nods, gives you a small smile and begins to finish her food.

You all finish your food in peace and quiet. Once you collect all the plates you begin to get to work on washing them

You look back and see Trevor's plate still on the table, he still hasn't come down.

Continuing the dishes your train of thought is broken as Joseph and Celeste come down with their book bags ready to leave.

"Hey mom we need to go to the store and buy some deodorant I'm all out. plus I need some cologne for my show tonight!" Joseph says. Always waiting until the last minute.

"Mom I can't be late for morning PT again or coach is going to bench me next game. Can I please have Kyle come pick me up and take me? He just got his bike fixed." Celeste asks

Your husband comes downstairs with his briefcase and heads for the door. On the way you both exchange a quick kiss and I love you. Before he heads out the door he snaps his fingers like he remembers something.

"Hey I passed by Trevor's room and heard him coughing pretty bad. Would you mind checking on him honey? I think he might've caught that bug that's been going around at his school." you husbands says before hopping in his new Lexus and begins to pullout of the driveway.

You wave him goodbye and walk back inside to collect Joseph and Celeste.

Your not sure you should let that boy take Celeste to school, he's trouble. But you definitely need to take Joseph to get some deodorant before he goes to school. Then there's Trevor, if he really is sick you need to be with him. You could always ask your neighbor Amy to take Celeste and Joseph to school for you, she owes you for not snitching her out to her husband when you caught her having an affair with the mail man.

>What do you want to do?

>Take both Celeste and Joseph to school but stop for Joseph before

You could check on Trevor real quick and see what symptoms he has and after you drop the kids off maybe Celeste first then take Joseph to the store or maybe a store like Walgreens where you can buy medication over the counter for Trevor, then take Joseph back to school. Finally go back to the house and give Trevor the meds.

You walk back inside to find Joseph and Celeste busily texting on their phones

You roll your eyes and walk past them "I'm going to check on your brother, get in the car and be ready in 5 BOTH of you. That means No Celeste." You call back with a exaggerated groan from Celeste.

As you walk up the stairs you can hear the coughs from down the hall. Deep rattled coughs echo from the walls as you walk closer and closer to Trevor's room.

You finally open the door to his room to find him wrapped up in sheets sniffling and coughing. His room is decorated head to toe in comic and sci-fi decor. Curtains with aliens printed all over them. The ceiling was painted black so he and his father could paint glow in the dark stars and planets. He has toys lying everywhere as wells as comic books and his sci-fi novels. The kid loves that stuff.

However the usual energy and charm are dampened by his rattling coughs. You come to the side of his bed and sit. You look him over to find that he is very pale, his eyes are a little sunken in, and his cough sounds horrible. You place the back of your hand against his forehead and find that he is burning up.

"Mom.....?" He weakly calls out "Mom.. I don't feel good. I'm so col" he says before he begins to cough uncontrollably for a few seconds "My chest hurts!"

You hate to see him like this. The bug going around his school must be the flu or something. A lot of the other kids were out sick the last time you picked him up from school.

"Don't worry baby, I'm going to drop off Joseph and Celeste and then get you some medicine so you can feel better ok?" you gently say to him as you rub his head

"ok mom... thank you."

"Your welcome sweetie, don't cover up so much your burning up" You say as you begin to unwrap him a bit.

He nods and after you fix his covers you give him a kiss on the forehead before you go back downstairs to Joseph and Celeste.

You walk out to your yellow Hummer H3 only to find Joseph in the passenger seat. You hop in and immediately ask

"Where's your sister?"

"Oh, she left with that Asshat Kyle and his motorcycle. I told her not to but she went anyways." He says as he shrugs with his eyes glued to his phone.

Frustration builds in you. You told her No and she did it anyways. She's going to get it later.

You start the engine and turn the radio up. You tap the GPS in your car and set it for the nearest Walgreens. With the destination set you take off. You arrive at the massive gate to your community and are greeted by one of the few security guards that are posted here to let people in and out.

It is an older bald man with a white goatee. He has been your gate guard for as long as you can remember and has always been friendly and has kept an eye on Trevor a few times. But he does have hardened face.

"Hello Mrs. Riley" Mr. banks greets you from his plastic booth as he begins to put his paper away and let you through "You know your daughter just came through not to long ago if you weren't aware." he informs you.

You give a grin "I know, she's going to hear about it later believe you me."

"Well I'll keep an eye out for her in case she decides to come home early and play hooky, if so I'll be sure to give you a ring Mrs.Riley" He says with a tired smile.

"Thank you Mr. Banks I appreciate it." You warmly reply and wave.

With the gates now open you make your way towards Walgreens. Along the way as your listening to the radio, you notice the weather outside is particularly bleak today. The sky is gray with heavy overcast, a light drizzles falls to the streets coupled with the usual cold weather. No wonder the kids are getting sick.

You also notice a lot more cars on the road than usual. Must be a concert or something today. Waving the thoughts away you finally arrive at your destination. Walgreens and pretty much all other stores are about ten minutes from your home.

As you arrive you notice that the parking lot is almost completely packed. Cars going in and out, People scrambling around. You've never seen it this busy. You look around and across the street and see that everywhere is busy. Lines stretching long in drive-thrus, packed parking lots, people with huge bags of items.

Confused as to all the commotion you turn and ask your son if he knows what's going on. He is silent for a few seconds as he continues to trawl through his phone.

"Huh, looks like there is a huge storm that's forming and is supposed to come through tomorrow. It looks massive actually; Tornadoes, Heavy thunderstorms, hail, and even some heavy fog. They are also issuing a flood warning for people near the lake. People are probably stocking up before it hits. They are saying the storm came out of no where and is constantly building." He says with a worried look his face.

Finally finding a parking space you stop and think to yourself. "Maybe we should try to go to a Walmart instead. If there is going to be a huge storm we might lose power so we might need extra batteries or need extra food or need extra meds for Trevor. But it's probably a lot crazier then this small place. I can stock up on food here but it's mostly snacks and junk food. As far as meds go I could probably get better ones from the pharmacy next door to Walmart. I could even fill up at their pumps. But is it worth the trip? Walmart does have a lot of stuff, probably stuff I'm not think of.But I can get the bare necessities here and not worry to much about people."

Brainstorming in your head you finally come to a conclusion

"Well. If there is a coming we need to properly stock up."You say finally making your decision "Buckle back up sweetheart we are ganna go to Walmart, I'll need you to help me with some of the shopping and heavy lifting so you'll be a little late to school alright?"

A smile creeps on Joseph's face "Yeah sure I hate first period anyways." he says as he goes right back to his phone.

You roll your eyes and gives light chuckle as you begin to pullout and get onto the main road.

It's only a 5 minute drive But as you drive more into the city the more chaotic the roads become, until you hit Aurora Cities only Walmart. . And it looks like chaos incarnate. Cars, people, and more people are just everywhere. Car horns blaring, people shouting, and just noise fills your ears when you finally manage to get into the parking lot. Even the police are scattered in the crowd.

"Holy shit. Look at everyone freaking the fuck out." You son says slowly in disbelief. Your not a fan of him cursing in front of you but the sight in front of you seems warranted.

"Watch your mouth" You say passively as you also stare in disbelief. "Well we are already here. We'll just get what we need and be in and out." you state

Among the general chaos people either seem to be scurrying to leave in a hurry, fighting over parking spots, or people attempting to steal from others. To your horror you see a woman being held at knife point for her bags of groceries by a man before the man holding the knife is tackled by a police officer. You sigh in relief knowing the police are trying.

You look over to the Walmart gas pumps and see that it is surround by lines and lines of cars trying to get gas. People are carrying gas canisters and filling them as well.

You look over to the Pharmacy next door and see it in a similar scenario

You begin slowly riding around the parking lot looking for a spot to park. Every spot in the lot is taken, every street spot, even the sidewalk in front of the store is packed full of cars and people. On your 7th go around of dodging people recklessly driving and maneuvering around the crowds of people trying to get to their cars, you are about ready to give up when you finally see someone backing up from a nearby parking spot.

Only problem is that there seems to be a line of cars that have been waiting for a spot in the lane. You could easily snipe the spot if you wanted to but it might cause trouble. With tensions this high trouble people are capable of doing all sorts of crazy things. Then again your not sure how long it will take you to find another spot. You've already spent 25 minutes just riding around the parking lot and your levels of stress are rising. Plus with so many people here the more time you spend outside the more likely the store will run out of essential items.
>>
>>3564773

In the first car of the opposing line you can see that it is a man with a look of extreme stress and anger. He seems to be accompanied by a young woman that is yelling at him in the passenger seat. He sees you seeing him and you both look at the car backing up. He notices that you have stopped and his face turns red with fury as he mouths "Don't you fucking dare!" You've got a couple seconds to decide as the car is almost pulled out entirely.

>What do you want to do?
>Snipe the parking spot and get into the store fast
>Look for another spot, it's not worth the risk

You lift your fingers on the steering wheel in an ok ok gesture to avoid confrontation and nod to him that the spot is his. He calms himself down at the sight of you giving him the spot with a sigh of heavy relief and mouths a thank you before nodding back and proceeding to park.

You start to take off however the man hops out of his car and waves you down quickly. He gestures for you to lower your window and you do.

Getting a clearer look at the man you notice he has a long bushy black beard, dark brown eyes, a young mid-twenties face, and is wearing a red flannel with a black beanie. He looks like very physically fit man and by the tanning of his skin he seems to work in the sun alot.

With your window rolled down the noise from the parking lot bursts into your car. Wincing the man leans closer and begins to speak "Hey, sorry about that back there I've been stuck in this fucking parking lot for 45 minutes, then I've got my sister yapping in my ear, and my stress levels were just rising ya know." He says embarrassed with a light chuckle at he end. He extends his hand to shake yours " Names Woody." Hey says with a warm smile

You extend your hand and shake his. He's got a hell of a grip. "I'm Lucy, and don't worry about it woody I've only been here 25 minutes and I'm already getting to that point." you say trying to lighten the mood

"Yeah well from what I've seen of people right now you are probably going to be a while. Your the first decent person I've run into, everyone else would've sniped that spot from right in front of me, it happened 6 times before you and I think you would've been the one that broke me."he says rubbing the back of his neck " Hey listen i think I know where you might be able to park that shouldn't be that busy. In the back of the Walmart there is a auto service area that you might be able to use as parking. I haven't seen anyone back there and was going to try it out but i kept getting cut off when I did try. It's worth a shot." he says as you hear his sister calling his name.

He rolls his eyes and then says "Sorry I've got to go before she blows a fuse." he reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a business card with his name and number on it. "If you ever want some handcrafted furniture done I can hook you up. I'm a lumberjack by trade but I craft furniture on the side. Thanks for not being an asshole, I owe ya one." you take the card and shake his hand once again before saying goodbye.

"That guy was nice." Joseph comments. "I hope he's right about the back" you nod in agreement

You immediately make for the back of the Walmart, the people and cars make things difficult but luckily you are able to make it through to the back on your first try! And it looks like Woody was right. Only 4 other cars seemed to have parked back here. Without wasting a second you pull into the next empty service spot and park. A wave of relief washes over you as you and your son look at each other and laugh. That just worked.

You both quickly unbuckle yourselves and make your way into the store from the back and are immediately met with the worst sight you could've asked for.

The store is absolutely filled with people. The noise of yelling and chatter is loud enough to where you feel it in your chest. You see people fighting over items, standing on shelves and stands trying to keep food away from others. You see people scared, angry, confused, and chaotic. everyone is behaving like animals. From where your currently at TV's, Games systems, speakers, and everything electronic is being snagged in the nearby section. Tires, gas canisters, and other mechanical tools are also being snagged fast in the section you are currently standing in.

From the look of the shelves in the grocery aisle way on the east wall things are being taken extremely fast. You know that if you have any chance of getting something you need to act fast. You quickly grab a nearby empty cart and get ready.

"Stay close Joseph. We don't need to get lost in here."

You're frozen for a second, peering at everyone panicking, fighting, and losing their minds. Like a contagious parasite anxiety and dread creep into the pit of your stomach. You immediately pull out your Iphone and send Celeste a message.

Celeste, I need you to come home as soon as you can. There is a huge storm coming and I don't want you out there when it hit. And yes you can bring your boyfriend. Just come home

With the message sent you slide your Iphone back into your jeans and regain your composure.

'We need to get your brother some medicine and stock up on toiletries before we get anything else!" You say to Joseph having to raise your voice over the crowd.

He nods and you both begin to make your way to pharmacy and toiletry aisles which are located near the front of the store.

As you make your way there you are pushed, punched and kicked all along the way. People elbows are flying all around threatening to collide with your face. But you manage to make it without real harm.

When you make it to the pharmacy you immediately begin filling your cart with painkillers, bandages, antiseptics, Ointments, cough medicine, Allergy medicine, some vitamins, and you manage to find some kids flu medicine for Trevor. Next you move onto the next aisle grabbing Feminine hygiene products, Soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, garbage bags, and deodorants.

You are one of the last ones in these aisles and you fight for every last bit. By the time your done you have mostly cleared the shelves getting the last of the good stuff. You look at your cart and see that 3/4's of it is filled. You know you got a lot of everything.

Joseph even managed to snag his own cart and filled it with some hair products, cologne, and washing detergents. He only has filled about 1/4 of his basket.

Since you cleared the aisles a lot less people are surrounding you but there is still an ocean of people in the store. Looking at the people you also notice that you are pretty close to the entrance. There only seems to be 2 officers standing at the entrance but they definitely have their hands full.... You've never stolen so much as a piece of bubblegum in your life. But you look at the registers and see lines stretching back into aisles. Who knows how long it will take to actually pay for all of this. You haven't even gotten to other items like food and water. But you could just get out now before things turn sour. The longer people are panicked and close the more trouble there could be. But trevor needs you as well.

"Joseph switch baskets with me and go out the main entrance. I know it's not right but this medicine is for your brother and the rest of us ok? Just don't think about it and go. Meet me at the car, I'm going to stay and try to get some food and water.Call me if ANYTHING goes wrong." You pull your son into a strong hug and give him a kiss on the cheek.

"Alright mom. Just be careful." He says before you both switch baskets and he takes off into the crowd disappearing like a needle in a haystack.

Before you venture into the crowd for food you pull out your iphone and message your husband only to find that he sent you a funny but inappropriate picture of his privates this morning that you must have missed. This actually manages to get a giggle out of you and relieves a lot of stress lifts your mood a bit as you think about how goofy he can be sometimes. For a moment you forget your in a Walmart filled with people going nuts.

But as quick as it came it leaves just as quick. You focus and text your husband.

Hey Honey could you please stop by Home Depot on your way home and get some nails, boards and things like that? They say there is a huge storm coming and I don't want to take a chance in case we need to board up and repair the house if it gets damaged. Thanks and be careful. Love you

With the message sent you set off for the grocery aisle. If getting to the medicine and toiletries was tough getting to the the groceries is like hell. You take twice as many punches kicks and shoves than before and get there twice as slow. You actually do suffer a flying elbow to forehead that leaves a pretty nasty bruise against your fair skin. Everyone and their mothers seems to be in the grocery aisles

But you make it to the groceries none the less. More than half of the food is gone already and only a dozen or so 24 packs of bottled water is left.

With you not being as stressed as before your able to snake through most of the crowd and grab as much canned and dried food as you can. The shelves are still slightly filled but they are defiantly about to run out. You manage to get the cart 3/4 full before a man dressed in all black comes out of nowhere and actually punches you across the face and lays you out.
>>

You've never been punched before and man did that hurt. You blearily open your eyes to the sight of the man taking your cart and yelling for people to get out of the way. he doesn't get far at all before another man rushes him from the side.

"HEY YOU FUCKING SCUMBAG WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" He shouts as his fist collides with the man in blacks head and knocks him clean out.

Despite what just happened people are still moving around you as if nothing even happened.

The man who rescued you, quickly kneels down to check on you and helps you up to your feet. Despite being punched in the face you feel somewhat fine as you rise to your feet.

He is dressed in a blue button up with black jeans and brown suede shoes. His face and body uncannily resemble Ryan Gosling.

"Hey are you ok? You don't look so good." he says concerned "I'm sorry but I had to step in there. I've got daughter and sister and I just couldn't stand by while a scum bag like that hit you." he says slightly enraged. But he grows gentler and continues "Listen i got your basket right here." He says as he wheels his basket to your hands. "People are going insane over this storm. I've got my daughter in the car outside waiting for me, she texted me the drizzle has turned to heavy rain so people are probably going to get crazier."

Once he says this he turns around and fights his way to the last of the bottled waters and is able to grab two 24 packs and places them in the undercarriage of your basket.

"Here take this. You should probably get out of here. I'm on my way out already and I could take you with me if you want." he says with genuine intent and concern.

>What do you want to do?

>Stay and try to get even more supplies besides food and water

>Leave with the man now

>Ask the man if he can help you fill the last 1/4 of your basket with food before you go

>Tell the man your fine on your own and quickly try to top off your basket with food

With everything that's happened you think it's best you just leave now. And if the this man is offering to escort you out you're more than happy to go along and to get the hell out of here.

"Oh um Thank you Mr..?"

"Doug Richards" He introduces himself and shakes your hand.

"Thank you so much Mr.Richards, I'm Lucy Riley, and If you wouldn't mind I would be more than happy to take you up on your offer." You say with a bright smile "I've got my son outside waiting for me as well another waiting at home for medicine."

"Don't worry about it Lucy I'll get you out to your kids in no time." He says as he grabs his own cart and pulls your cart from the front and starts to lead you out.

He muscles his way through the crowd fairly easily and you make tremendous progress. Along the way you manage to grab extra canned goods, some junk food, and a sack of potatoes. You are able to fill your cart all the way before you finally reach the auto aisles and get close to the exit.

Before you get far into the aisles however the loud sound of a massive plane of glass shattering silences the booming crowd. The crowd now falls to a hush and what follows is a ear splitting screech coming from somewhere in the store. It is a raspy but high pitched guttural Shriek similar to metal nails deeply being scratched on to a chalk board or s huge pig that lasts for 8 solid seconds.

The crowd is silent for 1 second but after explodes into sheer terror and panic. You have no idea who or what that was but your not sticking around to find out.

Doug looks stunned for a moment. But once the crowd explodes he does as well and quickly leads you out of the Walmart through the back.

You both emerge in the auto service area with people flooding out behind you. Doug was right it is now pouring rain outside. You hear distant sounds of thunder roaring in the distance. Luckily your yellow hummer is easy to spot. Joseph spots you as well and starts the engine.

"Hey Doug! My car is right over there!" You shout and point to your vehicle " Thank you so much for helping me. I don't know if I would've gotten out of there without your help."

"Hey like I said Don't worry about it. I was happy to help." A White sedan pulls up and blares its horn at the two of you "Sorry that's my daughter." He says before holding his hand up and yelling for her to wait. people are running past the two of you in a massive hurry and constantly shove you both. You manage to stay on your feet " Hey listen you take care of yourself out there. I've got a bad feeling about this storm. If you get stuck out there or need help or run out of food or anything give me call." He pulls out a pen and writes it on a receipt from the ground.

The white sedan honks again and Doug rolls his eyes and starts going towards the car annoyed but before he leaves the last thing he says is "Stay safe Lucy."

With Doug gone you push your cart to your Hummer and lift the trunk to find all the medicine and toiletries dumped in a pile. Joseph comes out of the drivers seat and helps you unload all the food, water and things Joseph got from before. You kind of just add to the pile because your in a hurry. A couple people that run past take a few objects before you finish but only around 4 or 5 cans of beans.

With the cart empty you quickly abandon it and hop in the driver's side of the vehicle and buckle in. Before you start your engine your phone notification rings. You open your phone to find a message from Celeste.

Hey Mom the school is on lockdown. They put us all in the gymnasium where it is safe. They said because the storm is coming early that we can stay here until it blows over. The cafeteria has a bunch of food and the school has back up generators. You can come pick me up but if the weather gets too bad don't worry about it, I'm fine. I'm just a little scared

Joseph slams the door as he jumps in. He looks like he is soaked from the rain and is completely out of breathe

"Sorry mom there was this little girl that fell and I had to help her up and I almost got hit by some lunatic in a car! These people are fucking insane!" He exclaims

Just then you get another notification. it's from Trevor's phone

Mom I really don't feel good. Just threw up a lot. When are you coming home?

"Mom? Why aren't we moving? What happened?" he asks putting a hand on your shoulder "Come on mom we have to go!"

You need to leave right now but where should you go? Your son needs you and you need to drop off these supplies. But your daughter is trapped in her high school. She says she will be fine but your maternal instincts tell you she won't be. If you go home the weather will more than likely force you to stay there. If you go to the high school you could get your daughter but you will have face the weather to get home. Maybe you could call someone and have them go get Celeste for you. Amy's kids go to the same high school so she might already be heading over there. She definitely owes you. You could ask Doug or woody. It would be a huge ask but hey you never know. You could call Mr.Banks and ask him to check on Trevor for you while you got the school in case the storm forces you to be stuck at the school. Or you could ask your husband to go get her. Although he works in the downtown area so he might not be able to get there in time before the storm but he definitely would try. You just don't know. This is a huge decision for you.

While your debating what to do another Primal shriek rings out from the inside of the building. Even from inside you vehicle it hurts your ears. After wincing in pain you instinctively search for the source. You find it.

Your search brig you to the back entrance of the building where a woman is screaming and running out in terror. Before she gets more than a few feet a lightning fast tendril shoots out and wraps around her legs and forces her to fall face first into the concrete. The woman cracks her skull and bleeds profusely from the wound. But this doesn't stop her from screaming as she tries desperately tries to claw into the ground and crawl away. However the black diseased looking tendril tightens and snaps her ankles before dragging her back into the store with wicked force and speed.

You stare in horror unable to comprehend what you just saw. Joseph is yelling something in your ear but all you hear is silence and a ringing that breaches it. Instinctively you peel out of the area and into the rain. Joseph yells finally break through and you shake yourself back into focus. You put what you just saw in the back of your mind for a second and force yourself to decide where you are headed and what your going to do.

>Go and get your daughter yourself.

If there's a car or bike rental place along the way we just do that so that we can grab Celeste while Joeseph gets the supplies back home.

Lastly. Call any friends in the area we like and mention what the fuck just happened. We want everyone to get in lockdown asap.
>Do we know any neighbors with a bunker? This sounds like the midwest so there might be an old nuclear bunker the gov had that we can bunker down in if the neighbors kept it operational.

Refocused you grip the wheel tightly and let out a sigh. Everything comes back to you. The sound of the rain beating against the roof of your car. The smell of gasoline and timber with just a hint of something rotten. The dark grey skies that threaten to become darker.Joseph screaming in your ear. The anxiety and confusion that plagues your mind. It all just snaps back and you know what you must do.

"MOM!! CAN YOU HEAR ME?!"

"Yes...just give me a second." you say trying with every fiber of your being to speak calmly. Now out of the auto service area and about to enter the front parking lot you pull over the the curb on the side of the building and park.

"MOM WHAT ARE YOU DOING WE NEED TO GO!" Joseph says as he begins to shake you by the shoulders.

"CALM DOWN!" You snap angrily. Joseph is taken aback. You don't snap very at him very often or really in general, it's very rare, but when you do it is fierce.

Again you try to keep calm but some of it just bleeds through when you continue "Take out your phone and check the local news, Twitter, Facebook, or whatever you need to do and find out what is happening. I am going to make some calls and we are going to get through this but you need to STOP freaking out. I saw the same thing you did and panicking over it like everyone else isn't going to do anything about it! Do you understand?!" you say with a raised voice that borders on yelling.

Joseph, now completely shocked, stutters "Y-y-yes Mam" and then proceeds to pull out his phone and begins his search.

You pull out your phone and know exactly the first person you are going to call.

"Heyyy Honey I just got out this boring executive mee-"

"Oh my god CHRIS!Baby you need to get home NOW!Leave the office right NOW!"

"Woah sweetie are you alright? What's going on?"

That question hits you like a ton of bricks. What IS going on? How do you explain the insanity of what you saw? How can he not know what's happening? You suddenly burst into tears and begin to breakdown.

"Honey? What's going on? Why are you crying?" your husband says concerned and confused.

"You need to let him know what's going on. You need to be strong. You need to keep your family safe." you think as you try your best to hold yourself together.

"I'm sorry.. ok give me a second" you say as you take some deep breathes

"Take all the time you need sweetheart." you husband say tying to comfort you.

You proceed to explain the entire situation and everything that's happened today. You manage to hold it together relatively well and deliver the news successfully.

"Ok." he says calm and collected "I believe you. I'll leave the office right now. I would try to pick up Celeste but if what you said about traffic is true it'll be worse here in downtown.Do you still want me to stop by the hardware store? It's on the way home but if you don't want me to risk it i'll come straight home. You tell me."

We probably have tons of junk in our house to make barricades or bombs from so tell him to quick grab boxes of nails, batteries and flashlights in that order.
>>
"I-I... yes. If you can, stop by there. But QUICKLY grab some nails and boards but if ANYTHING seems off or has even a SLIGHT possibility of going wrong you come straight home. Ok..? Just PLEASE be careful. You have to come home to me.Because I can't... lose you." you say as another barrage of tears threatens to cascade down your face at the thought of something going wrong...But you hold them back.

"Alright, I'll see what I can do. I'll be careful, no unnecessary risks. Don't worry. I'm coming home to you babe. I love you."

"I love you too" you say clutching your phone as the call ends. You take a second to calm yourself down.

Joseph sees this and takes the opportunity to inform you " Mom, I checked Facebook and people are just freaking out about the storm. No one posted anything about what happened here. At least not yet. I checked Twitter and the same thing. Then I tried to check the news but no stories have updated since the first update on the storm. I mean there's been like nothing, no activity at all from the news at all. All that is broadcasting on the TV is static and the same on the radio. People from aurora city keep trying to post and tweet at the News's social media and they haven't gotten responses. The News kind of just stopped out of nowhere."

You take in what Joseph says digest as much as you can. No one is posting about whatever you saw in Walmart and the local news station is down completely out of nowhere. Something weird is going on.

"I also tried to check traffic reports but the news hasn't reported anything so I checked my GPS and pretty much the entire city is red. The exception being the outskirt roads, no one seems to be on those." He says finishing his information dump.

"Thank you Joseph" you say as you try to think of a way to get to Celeste. if you can make it to the outskirt roads and they are clear you should be able to get to the High school no problem. Well one there is one problem. The outskirt roads go through the forest. And in this weather the trees might not stand and fall on the road or the road could just flood or a whole lot of things but the main issue is that, in this weather those roads are extremely dangerous.

Maybe someone is on their way already. You open up your group chat with the wives in your gated community. You've always been the unspoken leader of this little group, organizing a block patrol, putting together community events, preparing all the school fundraisers, etc. Everyone in the group respects you and appreciates your commitment to the community.

As you look in the chat you see that the few mothers that have children in high school are asking each other about how they will get to them as well. Amy is one of those chatting and she actually volunteered to be the one to drive up to the school and pick up the communities children. The last message was sent 15 minutes ago.

Without a second thought you dial Amy's phone number. It rings for a few seconds. And she picks up.

"Hey Lucy! I'm driving right now and the weather is terrible. Do you mind if I call you back?"

"Actually I just saw the group chat and I was hoping there was a chance you might be able to pick up Celeste when you get to the school."

"Totally! Don't worry about it. I'm taking Farm road 20 right now and it's empty! I'm bring home 6 other kids so I've got roo- OH SHIT!!!" Amy screams as from the phone you hear her tires screech as her tires swerve and a thunderous THUMP, almost like she hit something massive, before the call abruptly ends"

"Amy? Amy?? AMY?!" You scream at your phone. You look out the window to see lightning beginning to dance in the sky. Thunder roaring ever closer. The rain pouring even harder. The wind howling ferociously.

"What happened to Mrs. Johnson?" Joseph gently asks.

"I don't know." You simply respond still staring out the window. "Well now I need to go. To save Celeste and now to save Amy and the rest of the communities kids." you think to yourself. 'I'm going to have to send Joseph back home to get everything home and more importantly tale care of Trevor. I just need to find a way to get to the high school." You think, wracking your brain for answers.

While you are staring out into sky a familiar white sedan comes into view. He seems to be parked along the curb not more than 50 feet away talking to his daughter in the passenger seat. He looks like he just got off the phone and is explaining something to her. He looks distressed.

While you briefly watched him at the very last second he sees you from his window. He offers a weak smile and then makes the phone call sign as if asking you to give him a call. You briefly scramble for the receipt he gave you and dial his number.

"Hey. Fancy seeing you here." he jokes "You had to make phone calls too huh?" He asks

"Yeah." you say weakly.

"Yeah. My son is trapped at the high school and my ex isn't picking up. This fucking weather and traffic. Plus whatever that thing is that we saw...If there's more and they go for the school...I just.. I don't know." he says with a bit of defeat in his voice."I have to go after him but I need my daughter to take this stuff back to the house and make sure the house is safe. Plus it'd be too dangerous for her."

Your stunned for a second. He is almost in the same situation you are.

"My daughter is trapped there as well! A friend of mine just tried to get there through the farm roads and said it was clear but something happened along the way and I think she is in trouble."

School is on lockdown, they wouldn't let her leave even if she wanted to and riding a bike in really shitty weather is suicide.
>>
>>3567485
Boyfriend is a piece of shit that might abandon her or use her as bait, not that Celeste isn't on the path to stupidity, but as her mother we're at least a little biased. A bike is also easier to pick off by whatever the fuck that was since at least with the car you're INSIDE the steel frame. It's basically weighing the risks vs the ability to navigate traffic. Given how stupid people were acting i wouldn't be surprised if somebody doored him so that they could steal the bike if something happens.
Risks:
Storm and rain means slippery terrain while Injuries are much more dangerous when you don't have civilization backing you up. You get injured out in the open and you're a giant piece of bait
Somebody might door the bike in order to steal it. This is especially bad if a monster shows up and the person is smart enough to immediately figure out to steal the working transport instead of shit themselves.

People are shit to bikes on the road anyway so they might just door it for funsies or out of jealousy that it can actually move..
Cars have steel frames so they at least offer some protection or a way to hide.
An SUV/Jeep, or even Minivan is more sturdy while being able to take more passengers. We actually care about grabbing the other kids if we can as we aren't a psychopath.
The school wouldn't let him out, if he goes out he gets to look like a big manly hero to Celeste while actually putting her in danger and conveniently forgetting that Celeste wouldn't even BE stuck at the school if he didn't pick her up despite Joseph reminding her (where he could hear it) that she wasn't allowed to go with him. We don't know if we can actually trust him. He's not bad enough to get banned from the house(yet) but we certainly don't want our daughter to be the test case for him suddenly deciding to be a better person and manning up.

Pros: Maneuverability if the roads get fucked up by his freak storm.

I suppose we can't do something fucked up like leaving him to die (if we know there's a deathtrap) since he's still a kid, but we'd rather go with somebody we can rely on if we could in what is clearly an emergency situation.

>>3567573
Call 911 to rescue Amy like we should have done immediately. We have her general location, the knowledge that the roads are clear there for the ambulance, and her car info. A hospital is safer than being injured in the middle of a storm, doubly so with monsters about, and if somebody at 911 actually knows what's going on there might at least be some sort of police or military backup for the ambulance.
>>
>>3567648
If that wallmart is any indication of the current state of the city then calling 911 is a wast of valuable time. Either we go help Amy ourselves or leave her for dead.

"Holy shit.. Well look I need to help my son and you need to help your daughter and friends. We could team up! Me and You. If you and I drive down to the school and take that same farm road as your friend we can make bypass traffic, make sure she is alright, make our way to the school, get the kids and then we could go our separate ways. If you and I can find an abandoned car to borrow I can send my daughter home and not have to worry as much." He says enthusiastically however before taking a more humble tone "I don't want to put you in danger or anything I just.... I would really appreciate it."

"I think th-"

While your saying this Joseph interrupts as does Doug's daughter at seemingly the same time. You end the call accidentally.

"NO WAY! You can't go out there! Look at how bad the weather is already! And if there are more of those things then you could get killed or taken or something!" he says with worry and panic stained in his voice.

"Shhhh....Hey, look at me." You say grabbing his face gently in both your hands."Your sister needs me. Mrs.Johnson needs me. The other kids in the community need me. And I need you. Ok? I can't go help them if you don't help me and your brother and do as your told. You sister is scared. She is stuck at the high school and I need to go get her before this storm gets even worse and she is trapped there for good." you say looking him in the eye. "I'll be fine." You assure him "Call your brother and let him know your coming, Also call Mr.Banks and ask him nicely to check on Trevor in case traffic slows you down too much and you take a long time."

Joseph nods his head. "Alright" you both exchange a warm."Ill do it."After a few long seconds you give your son a kiss on the cheek and let him go.

You look over too Doug's car but can barely make anything out with the rain and how unusually dark the sky has gotten. You look at the clock in your car, it's only 11:30 in the afternoon yet it looks like its dusk is about to hit. The clouds have gotten thicker and if you squint hard enough you can see a very faint blue pulsation light or energy. Weird.

Your train of thought is broken as Doug calls you back. You answer.

"Hey, sorry about the interruption. I just talked it over with my daughter. Shes ok with it..." He says" Again I don't want to put you in danger but I think it'd be best if we went to together.. however if you don't feel safe or comfortable I understand." He pauses briefly "Will you help me?"

Best to not assume that. if this storm alone is big enough to cause panic like this, then the national guard or some other group might get dispatched. We shouldn't give up on society already and we don't know that it's spread to the city. Hubby sounds like he'd be the type to work in a skyscraper or generally tall/swanky building, so if stuff has been happening he'd have had enough of a vantage point to be calling us about monsters everywhere when he looks out a window.
Even a slow 911 response is good because it means backup possibly arrives to save us if some random monster did eat Amy

Doug's daughter is going back to the community with Joseph? I don't see any reason why he'd risk bringing her along when she can prep her house and/or have the protection of the community while everyone is hunkering down.

Doug’s daughter is going to their own place. He wants her to prep his place and keep it safe.

Also yes Your hubby works in the biggest skyscrapers currently in Aurora city, and he’s been smoking stuck in a executive meeting all morning/afternoon so he is just learning about everything

5 other moms asked for her help and 6 kids in total are from the community

Also as for calling the police you could try but I can let you know it will very unlikely, the whole city is pretty much like what happened in the Walmart. Frenzied and scared. Theres only one police station they are spread pretty thin as is the fire department

Including her own kids?

Yeah I have a question, what are those black things? Aliums?

>>3567812
Use the bigger, tougher vehicle obviously
>>
>>3567812
Bulletproof Mercedes-AMG G63
>>
>>3567812
Something study. An SUV of some sort since a fast vehicle like a sports car might slip off the road if we tried to tear it up at max speed. That can hold the kids and(hopefully) protect us from any monster or make it easier to hide.
Bandages are a must. We wouldn't be able to leave some injured person we find along the way if we can rescue them. A little emergency food/water for if things get serious and we need to get shelter somewhere either coming or going.
This is murrica so maybe a gun or two is in order if either of us know how to shoot? I was thinking about stopping by a gun store before shit went south but by now the frenzy makes it more dangerous. If no guns then at least an axe or tire iron or even a bat.

>>3567833
I doubt we got anything bulletproof but if the community happens to have one they can lend out it's easily the best option.
>>
>>3567829
5 moms each have their own high school aged kids, Amy has 3 kids but only one is in high school, there is only one high school as well as only one Middle and elementary school.

Doing some math, 6 kids in the car with Amy for a total of 7, we also have our own kid and her boyfriend to deal with for a new total of 9. Add us into the mix and it's 10. We need a big 12 passanger van if we plan to save everyone.

We need a full size or extended SUV to fit all the kids we're bringing back to our community. Hopefully deadbeat bf isn't one of them. If he is I'd prefer to leave him lol. Get ready to drive off road if we must.
>>
>>3567895
Our relationship with our daughter is rocky as it is, if we leave her BF for dead that might be the point of no return for our relationship.
>>
>>3567904
She seems comfortable and safe with staying inside the school so I don't think she would ask us to bring her bf too. Most people still think it's just a big storm.
>>
>>3567895
Him being an asshole isn't a reason to leave a kid to die. People grow up. Our oldest son did even if he didn't become as much of one. We're probably gonna end up alerting the school about the monsters since even if you really think it's worth leaving him to die, we aren't doing that with possibly hundreds of kids in that school who could be prepping for what's to come instead.
>>3567812
I forgot about this before but have whomever is not driving on monster lookout duty and/or keep the camera app ready. we're gonna need video evidence for the people at school if we try to convince them to lockdown the school even further.

My thought is something like The Mist. (Once i noticed that wasn't a zombie) Resident evil also came to mind but I kinda suspect this is one of those cheap scifi shows like Under the Dome, the TV version of The Mist, and misc others where there's all sorts of drama dependent on the people being stupid that also tells me the writers were stupid.
Our biggest danger (provided we don't turn into assholes) is everyone going Lord of the Flies because they're too dumb to remember that mankind is automatically weaker than anything out there individually even before monsters are added in. It's us working together in groups/packs that made us an apex predator. Neanderthals were asocial loners and they died out.

"Yes, in times like these we all have to pull together."

Doug chuckles lightly over the phone "Your absolutely right.Thank you."

With that said you feel a twinge of adrenaline kick in as the thought of you actually doing this. "Alright, before we step out into the rain let me get a couple of supplies just in case we get stranded or find someone that needs help." You say quickly

"Alright I'll pull up closer to you and then do the same thing. Give me 5 minutes" He replies. You both agree and then end the call.

You unbuckle your Seat belt and crawl to the back seat to get to the supplies in the trunk. From the front hear Joseph dump a whole bunch of things on the floor of his seat. You look back and see him handing you his school backpack."You'll need it more than I do" he says as you thank him and then begin to fill it with 3 rolls of gauze, 2 boxes of band-aids, A bottle of peroxide, 2 cans of peaches, 4 water bottles, and a flashlight.

With plenty of room left in the bag you close it up and put in on. You turn back to Joseph, who has now switched to the drivers seat, and tell him "Be sure to take care of your brother, put all of these suppies away, and wait for your dad to come. If anything happens you call me the second after." You pull out your phone and check the battery. 78% "I should enough battery to last me the rest of the day." You turn to the door and prepare to go into the madness" Be safe, I love you"

"I love you too mom" He says back. And with that you open the door and jump out.

As soon as you jump out you feel the blistering winds and torrential rain drench you immediately. You hair billows in the wind but the same time sticks to your face, making sight difficult. The sound of the rain beating the pavement and the dreadful howl of the wind leaves everything difficult to hear. However you hear something coming from the Walmart.

The storm tries to mask it but what sounds like hundreds bloodcurdling screams explode from the building. Desperate cries and pleads for help fill the noisy air. People screaming in pure agony rings out through the thunder and lightning of the storm. Sickening cracks, squelches, and ripping noises can also be heard but the screeches from some sort of creature, different from before, overtake all of them. The singular screech from before has multiplied by what sounds like at least 5. This new screech however is significantly deeper and more insidious than before. Within the deeper screech you hear a vomit inducing gurgling and sloshing as a secondary vocal.

You stare at the building in horror and disbelief. What could possibly be going on in there. What kind of abomination could this screech belong too?

You don't get to think long as your are grabbed by Doug" COME ON WE NEED TO MOVE!" he says as he begins to run and pulls you with him.

After running for a minute you find yourselves in the front parking lot of the Walmart. Everyone must have cleared out because you see no signs of life. The parking lot is littered with abandoned cars, bodies that look like they were trampled or run over, supplies that were crushed by cars or just thrown on the ground. The place is trashed.

"I CAN HARDLY SEE BECAUSE OF THE RAIN SO LET'S STICK TOGETHER" He shouts as he tightens his grip on your hand and once again begins to lead you.

You and Doug slowly begin your search for a car and immediately strike gold. You come across a Black Premium luxury 2019 Cadillac Escalade that looks virtually untouched. It is parked on the curb near the entrance.

You both race to it and hop in, and with great luck you find a set of keys in the ignition. The interior is a beautiful brown and looks like it seats 7 people with a decent sized trunk. What you also find is several bricks of cocaine and an almost empty duffel bag with only a immaculately crafted gold and silver dagger remaining.

You and Doug look each other completely ecstatic at your find! Doug immediately starts the vehicle and it roars to life. This excitement is short lived however as the last thing you witness before you pull out is the lifeless, ragdoll body of a man is thrown from the store. His body shoots clean through the giant glass panels and slams into the side of a van and hits in hard enough to be encrusted half way into the side of the van. The crash emits a thunderous boom and pushes the van at least 7 feet. Blood and Viscera splatters from the crash. It looks like the van was struck full force by an 18 wheeler with gore painting it all. What follows is a unison of deafening screeches that pierce your ears like a razors and chill you being to the core. Lightning strikes and Thuder follows very closely behind.

That's all the motivation Doug apparently needs as he immediately peels out of the parking lot.

What the fuck is going on?

We totally forgot to get that on camera didn't we?

The thing that really gets me and I think we should figure out about halfway through the drive over is that noone ran outside. Why could none of those people run outside? It could be a tornado outside and still safer to flee than staying in with whatever the hell that was.

We clearly need greater fortifications or hope that one of those old government bunkers is connected to our neighborhood. Not your standard ones that's made for a few people. I mean one of those ones that the president/senators/congressmen are supposed to flee to the nearest one of in the event that the apocalypse hits.I would explore one of those to be sure those things aren't hiding in there already, close the damn lid, and not come out for at least a decade if i could get away with it.

Pack/herd mentality when people are angry or scared they get stupid. They stop thinking logically and start following each other subconsciously thinking "follow the pack to safety" even if no really knows what's happening.

Actually, not entirely you inbred dipshit. They simply check the box under "Caucasian" and "Asian" in the (US) census. You're smart enough to realize how weak humans are though. Props there. That's not saying much however.

You are the kind of guy that expects everyone else to bow to your "superior" intellect and plans. You are the kind of "That Guy" that kills quest. how about you do us all a favor and chill out or you now leave the quest.

You don't see it since it's on the other half of the front page but apparently everyone got used to lovecraftian monsters enough to start sightseeing.
I choose to believe that the phrasing indicates that Monster energy drinks are being used as sanity/courage potions simply because I find the idea funny.

You are the kind of guy who is not only a fag but a stupid fag with a low IQ. You are the kind of faggot that kills quests. How about YOU do US all a favor and kill yourself.
