After the defeat of Shinnok in his bid to corrupt the Earthrealm Ginsei to destroy against the Elder Gods, the thunder god and protector of Earthrealm Raiden was corrupted by his dark powers. Embittered by the constant threat Outworld had proven itself to be for his realm and the Elder Gods' negligence, he took matters at his own hands. Leading the might of Earthrealm soldiers rallied to suppress Outworld itself, the fallen thunder god seeks to dominate Outworld instead of staying on the defensive. Various nations and powers seeking to use Outworld in hopes of other ulterior motives followed his lead. Kotal Khan and the rest of Outworld was left at their mercy.

The current Kahn, Kotal Kahn, fearing an impending absorption of Outworld by Earthrealm as Shao Kahn did against them, he called upon the Elder Gods for help. His splintered kingdom and divided realm is no match against Earthrealm's superior technological might and Raiden's wrath.

So the Elder Gods did comply, much to the increasing dismay of the thunder god. Raiden's path of carnage and destruction can only continue upon defeating Kotal Kahn and Outworld in mortal kombat. Ten Outworld fighters against Earthrealm fighters of the same numbers. Even so, hope seems ever so bleak. The previous conflict against Earthrealm had left Kotal ill prepared and short of formidable fighters to spare.

This is where you come in. Either you volunteered to Outworld's defense, or accidentally embroiled in this conflict, you will now fight as one of Kotal's chosen ten against Raiden to protect Outworld. Who are you, now facing against Raiden's crimson lightning?

So it would seem fate have more than the ordinary in store for Outworld. Once, Outworld was ruled by a great and terrible dragon king. This dragon king forged an empire spanning across Outworld, the might of his army unrivaled. Alas, even the strong will fall given time. Betrayed by one of his chief advisers, the dragon king and his army were mummified and hidden. Legend has it that he will return once again to reclaim the throne he so rightfully deserves.

Why have this tale resurfaced? Perhaps this prophecy will come to fruition soon, but it is not of importance for now. What truly matters for the time being is your participation in Mortal Kombat against Raiden and the fighters of Earthrealm.

You are Satsujin, an assassin and mercenary of human descent. Despite your clothing, you are not currently affiliated with any ninja clans. Throughout the konflict between Earthrealm and Outworld, you had worked as spies for both side, feeding each other informations for profit. Your fighting style is a mish mash of other schools of swordsmanship and assassination techniques due to incomplete training. Armed with throwing daggers and razor sharp blades, you have foolishly come to Kotal's aid to prove your worth not knowing the full scale of the situation at hand. It is too late to turn back now. Your history should have properly equipped you to face any challenger Raiden could throw at you... hopefully.

>Ex-Red Dragon: Trained rigidly among many as the clan master's personal army, you are not the first to turn your back against the Red Dragon. Despite that, you did not join the Black Dragon clan like many of your kind did. Reckoned you could take on the world all by yourself.

You still remember that day as the inferno takes hold of Shirai Ry's clan hold. Metallic warrior dices Shirai Ryu warriors and torches the surrounding area aflame. Then, foul sorcery scorches the fleeing women and children until nothing is left. You however noticed the attack early enough to flee. The guilt still haunts your dream, that perhaps with a little more courage you could've saved at least a few of your clansmen... the disappointed face of your then deceased master Hanzo Hasashi had he known what a coward you are never seem to dissipate from your mind.

It is the night before the tournament. You sit in meditation to calm down your wrecked nerves. What a reckless decision you have made. The men and women that you shall face had fought Shao Kahn and his retinue and not just survived, but also emerged victorious! What chance had you got? Still, all that can be done now is to emerge victorious in kombat.

After a failed session of meditation and still shaken nerves, you go for a walk around Kotal's castle, where you will live for the rest of your stay, or until you bite the dust if you're unlucky tomorrow. You're too nervous to sleep it off. Overlooking the courtyard where kombat will be held, you....

Stealthily, you leap from one shadowy corner to another. Traversing through the castle all the while sticking in concealment is no problem for one as experienced as you. All the while, you marvel at the ancient Osh-Tekk architecture that bears resemblance to Earthrealm's Aztecs.

Checking each corners, avoiding castle retainers and guards with ease, you slip pass deeper and deeper. Without modern lighting and technological surveillance, infiltration of structures like this is very easy. Still, you're not here to kill the Kahn or anything like that. Maybe he'll even pay you extra quids for pointing out these security flaws. You know a guy who knows a guy with military grade techs just for the occasion.

With your mind in the clouds thinking of how to make extra profit out of this job, you overstepped the boundary of darkness you're hiding in. Someone nearby saw you, but you can't discern who he is.

"I smell a rat.... come out 'fore I make you!"

A clicking noise can be heard from where he stands.

"1... 2....", he counts as he steps ever closer to your hiding spot.

Clinging onto the wall, you stay as still as possible in hopes that whoever that is, he would not be able to locate your exact position.

"Three!"

A deafening discharge of gunfire was heard. Oddly enough, the shot was not aimed at you. Upon closer inspection, the man who you presumed had spotted you is aiming his gun at an opposite direction. He himself is an oddity, dressing up in western style clothing akin to that of wild west cowboys.

What follows is a grunting female voice, with an eerie shrill to it. A few more shots were fired at the voice but apparently they all miss.

A few more shots are fired into the darkness before whoever he's aiming at decided she's had enough. One scantily clad women emerged bleeding and furious. Her face is masked but the moonlight reflects a pair of bestial yellow iris. A bloody melee was initiated between the two kombatant. Despite being a gunman, the cowboy seems comfortable fighting at close range. The woman herself is no slouch, revealing inhuman strength and speed, fighting like a wild beast.

Do you intervene? Who do you help?

The two continues to trade blows, seemingly evenly matched. Over time though, the cowboy starts to gain the upper hand as he deftly keeps his distance, firing his revolver and avoiding hand to hand combat. There's some wincing in his movement as if he's already suffered some injuries before this fight, though that did little to hinder him.

The female kombatant, overwhelmed, goes for a much more aggressive front, like a cornered beast. She start taking more direct hits, but also deliver more as well. Her sai meets the cowboys shoulders and sides. Scowling, a sharp kick was delivered to the female's abdomen delivering her backwards reeling in pain.

Loading his revolver, the cowboy draws fire almost faster than you can catch. His shot first hits the pelvis, but the projectile seemingly bounces upwards hitting the shoulder bones and exiting through the female fighter's jaws. She falls down spasming and bleeding profusely. Castle guards rush to see the commotion. As they deal with the corpse, the cowboy leaves them to their duties. For a moment, you're sure your eyes and his met.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After an hour or so skulking around and witnessing the confrontation between a cowboy and what seem to be an assassin, you wander still aimlessly. The thought of the coming tournament still weighs heavy on you. There's not much to do unless you desire to trespass deeper into the castle, though your employer might not be pleased with that....

Your curiosity brings you further and further into Kotal's keep. Over time, you find yourself wandering through paths less guarded and ended up at the entrance of the castle's dungeon. The air feels heavy, and even heavier as you go on. Something feels very wrong here. Something sinister....

In the distance, two voices can be heard conversing with each other. You quickly recognize one of htem as your employer Kotal Kahn's, but not the other. It's ghastly echoes rings deep within your soul.

"....finest fighters I can offer against Raiden, but for a price.", the ghastly voice spoke.

"Name your price, revenant.", Kotal answers with a tinge of irritation.

"The soul of the fighters who fall tomorrow. Not just Earthrealm's but Outworld's as well."

You try to peek through the gaps...

"You offer a steep bargain, but-"

Kotal stops mid sentence. He had sensed your presence!

"It seems that we are not alone here, Kahn.", the ghastly voice sneered.

You need to hide, now!

The Osh-Tekk warrior swiftly reaches the door before you could step away, sword at hand. Had he been more careless, his greatsword would have lopped your head clean off your neck. He is as surprised to see you here as you are.

"It is the mercenary Satsujin... I understand that you have worked as a spy and assassin, but I do not appreciate anybody sneaking around my castle, even my allies."

"I was... merely taking a nightly walk Lord Kotal. To soothe the nerves for tomorrow's battle. Who was it that you speak to back there?", you asked, getting straight to the point.

"There is only me Satsujin. You must have heard wrong."

The Kahn showed the room he was in. Indeed, there is no one here but him. The heavy air in the atmosphere also seem to have faded.

"Go back to your quarters and rest! I could not afford one of my own to fall before kombat even begin."

Not wanting to refuse the command of the towering Osh-Tekk, you head back as ordered. Even though your heart is still restless, you managed to force yourself to fall asleep.

The tournament was organized with little fanfare. The wide courtyard of the castle are occupied by Kotal's guard, Earthrealm's forces and each respective side's fighters. As if to curse you, fate would see it fitting to unravel your darkest memories.

Escorting the Earthrealm forces are mechanical warriors called the Cyber Lin Kuei. You recognize these as those who reduced the Shirai Ryu's clan hold to cinders. As daunting as ever, one of them bear a striking crimson color, standing among the chosen Earthrealm fighters alongside Raiden, the god of thunder.

The god eyes Outworld fighters in ever increasing disdain. It seems that both sides have only 6 fighters shown today (including you), perhaps in a bid to hide any possible ace up their sleeves. The Earthrealm's fighters look formidable indeed. One of them is Johnny Cage, the man who once defeated the fallen elder god, Shinnok. There is also a woman who's clothing resembles that of the fighter named Sub-Zero. Perhaps a new inheritor to that name? Among these rabble of formidable warriors though, one of them look surprisingly mundane. A man in regular attire, but looks can be deceiving. Could he be a shaolin?

Your side is not so ordinary either. The cowboy you met last night turns out to be one of Kotal's most trusted fighters, Erron Black. He is an Earthrealmer like you who had his lifespan increased through sorcery. Two towering Shokans also adorn your team with their ferocity. This is not to mention the humanoid lizard standing next to Kotal. Then again, there had been weirder things to come out of Outworld.

It is now time to begin the tournament.

"I hereby announce the start of the Mortal Kombat tournament that will determines the fate of Outworld. The side who can eliminate all 10 fighters of the opposing team will be crowned champion of this tournament. Those who will fight, honor us with glorious kombat!"

Osh-Tekk soldiers raise their spears to hail their king's words, but the Earthrealm's side did no such thing, only complying with the procession of the tournament. Kotal Kahn observes from his throne the fighting ring. You mingle with your team's fighters, but could not find any common ground for conversation. Maybe you'd have a better chance at friendship on your home side?

A thunderous boom captured the attention of all nearby. Lord Raiden, the source of the noise, orders the first match to begin.

"Outworld fighters! Choose your kombatant!"

Will you volunteer? Or will you let other people step up? It seems they're waiting for your side to choose first.

You took a step away from the ring to show your refusal in participating on the first round. The two Shokans also backed down, which leaves Erron, and the Saurian Reptile to participate. Finally, Reptile nods his head and walked into the ring. He will be Outworld's first kombatant.

On Earthrealm's side, Jonny Cage stormed onto the ring. He seems furious, shouting something at Shao Kahn.

"Kotal! I know you're hiding him! Bring me Shang Tsung!"

The Kahn did not respond, instead waving his hand, ordering the match to proceed. In frustration, Cage took his side of the ring to face Reptile. Do you watch the fight, or do something else?

"You know my name?"

"Hard to forget another Eathrealm feller running odd jobs around here. 'Sides, I've seen you work for Kotal more than a couple of time. I'm surprised you'd join the tournament yerself though. Reckoned you're comfy just being a spy and all that."

The cowboy took a swig off his flask, his line of sight still not yet broken from the two kombatants fighting in the ring.

"So, any tips you can impart upon this rookie as a veteran kombatant, Mr. Black?", you asked jokingly.

"God help you if you fight anybody but Cage and Ms. Briggs o'er there. The cyborg can slice you up 8 different ways before frying you good. That ordinary looking feller on Raiden's side is a Black Dragon. I know one when I see it, and trust me you won't get out in one piece against one them. The other one who calls herself "Sub-Zero", she's a cryomancer. You'll be frozen before you can even land a hit. I don't think I need to explain why fighting Raiden's a bad idea now do I?"

Erron Black took yet another swig before letting off a sigh and continues.

"Not that Johnny Cage or Jacqui Briggs can't kick your ass, but point is most of the fighters on the other side are mean as a bull and hits twice as hard. Ain't like that last time, but I guess Raiden's sick of riding with the good guys. Can't blame 'em."

"Well that was... demoralizing all things considered.", you said, not expecting a lecture on the different ways you can die in this tournament.

Meanwhile, Reptile is having a hard time defending against Johnny's blows. He turned invisible to gain an upper had, but was quickly broken off it through a clean kick to the guts. He'd not last for long it seems.

"Say, Mr. Black-"

"Erron's fine kid."

"Yeah, Erron. What's with that Jacqui Briggs girl over there staring daggers at you?"

The cowboy gave a chuckle before answering.

"Her? Oh the broad's just a bit bitter. Last month or so I did a hit on her team. Obviously I did not wipe them all and got myself into a world of hurt.", he rubs the side of his stomach and groans.

"But I took out one of them, her father, and made vegetable out of Another kid. Kotal paid me well, but I'd rather not brag about botched jobs like these."

[Cont.]

>>3566633

Shortly after ending the conversation with Erron Black, the victor of the first match was announced.

"Johnny Cage wins!"

Reptile crawled on the ground, chest heaving expecting the worst. Instead of finishing his opponent off, Johnny Cage went straight for Kotal demanding answers.

"Kotal! Bring Shang Tsung out here right now! I know you're hiding that son of a bitch!"

The Kahn rise up from his throne to answer the furious Earthrealmer.

"That sorcerer died at Shao Kahn's hand during Earthrealm's invasion! Even if he had came back from the dead, I had no need for that someone as vile as him in my court!"

Gritting his teeth, Cage finally steps off the ring. His fists are clenched tight, punching a pillar nearby and weakening it off enough for it to collapse. The first match of the day had come to an end.

"The second match of the Mortal Kombat Tournament will begin shortly. Kombatants! Take your place in the ring if you wish to fight!"

Reptile dragged himself off the ring. His allies did not begrudge him for losing. It is not the field which he shines in either way.

It seems that the Shokans want to step out of this match either, and Erron is clearly still injured. Do you step forth to face the next challenger?

Valiantly, you stepped onto the ring. Cold sweat forms on your brow as you unsheath a ninjato. Some snickers can be heard among the crowd, they can sense your fear. Raiden looked among his warriors and pointed at one to participate. Good news is they are benching Johnny Cage. Bad news is he might choose just about anybody else.

A young lady in her early 20s walked into the ring. She is of African-American descent, both her arm are adorned with cutting edge mechanical gauntlet. You will face Jacqueline Briggs!

"Satsujin versus Jacqueline Briggs. Fight!"

Sounds of intricate machinery resonates from her gauntlets. She relaxed for a moment- though still in a fighting stance- and talks to you.

"Wait. You're... human. And that footwork, I recognize it. Shirai Ryu right? Why fight for Kotal? For Outworld. Raiden needs every fighter he can get to defend Earthrealm!"

Her words fill you with anger. Fight for Raiden? And march alongside your clan's murderers? A surge of heat rises to your head.

"The Shirai Ryu are dead! The ones responsible now serves your corrupted god! Enough talk, have at you!"

You launch a dagger straight to her eyes, though Jacqui manages to block just in time. She frowned, crumpling the steel blade through the sheer might of her gauntlet. Responding in kind, she leaps into a frontal assault. What follows are back and forth exchange between the two of you. Though you had proven to be more agile, Briggs is superior in both her physical and arsenal might. Going too close means you risk getting yourself plastered onto the stone floor, but getting to far means giving her the range to blast you with her shotgun.

"The Shirai Ryu is not dead! Hanzo Hasashi had revived the cla-"

"Do not speak of him, cur! I will not let one of Raiden's dogs sully Master Hanzo's and the clan's name!", you shouted, swinging your ninjato at her neck, which she deftly evades.

If this goes on, this battle will devolve into a test of endurance for the both of you. A change in strategy is required to cripple her. What will you do?

Indeed, her gauntlets are the only thing holding you back from finishing this fight for good. You need to come up with a plan to take her little toy away.

You took a moment to assess patterns in her attacks. Ms. Briggs is a very aggressive attacker. The core of her fighting style seems to be based off kickboxing, but she heavily relies on her punches. This leaves her lower body exposed for the most part. Another thing you noticed is that she reflexively readies her gauntlet on firing mode the moment you take a step back, perhaps preemptively trying to punish you for creating distances.

Using these infos at hand, you formulate a plan to immobilize her long enough to either pull off the gauntlets, or at least sabotage it.

In a split second you replay the steps of your plan before taking a deep breath and going for the kill!

First, you step in her punching range. Deflecting and evading for a moment, you feing stepping back. As you expected, she raises her arm to open fire. Making use of this opening, in a swift motion you grab her arm, kick the back of her knees and causing her to kneel. Twisting said arm, you push her face down into the dirt. With no time to figure out the gauntlet's mechanism, you jammed in a steel dagger into one of them, causing sparks to fly.

"Ah shit! Son of a bitch!"

Jacqui tosses her now quickly burning power gauntlet, leaving only the left arm mechanized. Now significantly easier to fight in melee, you simply have to deflect her now considerably weaker right jabs and avoid her shockwave powered left hook. A misplaced forward punch leaves her abdomen exposed to a forward kick that leaves Jacqui groaning on the floor.

Like a tiger, you pounce on your weakened prey. Legs on Jacqui's left gauntlet, you point the edge of your ninjato at her neck. She soon surrenders, and Kotal's men cheer at their first victory against Earthrealm.

"Finish her!", Kotal shouts.

"No... I will not take this one's life. Not today."

Kotal looks upset, but accepts your choice. You sheathed your ninjato and turned towards exiting the ring. You halted however, turning head to the recovering Jacqui.

"You speak of Master Hasashi just now."

"Yeah. The old man brought back the Shirai Ryu clan, with new bloods and recruits. One of my friend's a shinobi in their ranks."

Though she cannot see it, you are smiling under your mask, truly glad that somehow your past was not completely blown to ashes. Nodding, you stepped out of the ring. You faintly hear a scuffed thanks out of Briggs' mouth. '

With the end of the second match, the first day of Outworld Mortal Kombat tournament came to a close. Each fighters retreated to their respective camps awaiting the coming dawn. Soon midnight falls on Outworld and yet you are still awake. What will you do to pass the time?

Another stroll around Kotal's kastle shouldn't hurt. You just need to keep in mind to not get caught by Kotal when snooping around his dungeons again. Seems easy enough.

The thought of Kotal selling hte souls of fallen kombatants in this tournament to some insidious power still lingers in your mind. That is what partly stopped you from finishing of Jacqueline Briggs. Nothing good can come out this, that's for sure. But who are you to question him? As long as you get paid and come out of this alive, it is more than enough.

Passing by Kotal's retainers and guards, a few of them congratulated you for your victory in today's match. There's no need to walk in the shadows to go deeper into the castle now that they have recognized you as a trustworthy and reliable ally. Briefly you joined in feast with other kombatants, but after failing to match the shokans' appetite, you settled for a walk and let the food inside digest.

Your mind drifts as you walk, only to be snapped back to reality when a voice called from behind.

"Good job in defeating Ms. Briggs. She was a formidable opponent, but your wits prove to be superior."

A man, draped in black, his face concealed by a mask. He appears to have sneaked up on you, but intent no harm.

"And who's asking?", you asked, slightly on guard due to the sudden appearance of this mysterious man.

"Who I am is not important, Satsujin. Though you can be rest assured that we are allies."

He walked to your side, his footsteps as silent the night.

"Your talent is impressive, given your incomplete training. But there is much to learn, so much more, and I can teach it to you. Are you willing to partake?"

The mysterious man extends his hand for you to take. Will you participate?

"Very well, I shall participa-"

Before you can take his hand for what you assumed to be a handshake offered, a palm strike was delivered straight onto your chest, knocking you a few feet away. The attacks forces you to kneel, your breathing turned haggard.

"Behold, the truth unveiled! This is how far you are outclassed against other kombatants! No amount of quick wit can make up for the lack of physical strength. Your swords and daggers will not pierce a cyborg's armor, much less a cryomancer's flash freezing."

He lifts you up by the shoulders and gives you a moment to catch your breath. Not even able to ask who he is first, he had already started barking orders.

"Show me your footwork!"

What follows is hours of grueling practice. The enigmatic fighter gave you a crash course on how to manipulate life energy, chi. Starting from breathing to meditation, he crammed in whatever basic knowledge you need to hone this skill and match the strength of other Earthrealm fighters.

You are left pained and sore by the time you are dismissed. The mysterious kombatant himself vanishing as he said his farewell, only leaving icy cold winds at your back before you can turn around.

You can now unleash a few chi concentrated strikes. Your punches can now even crack stone walls, but is limited in usage as it is very draining for your body. Not bad for a beginner.

Early in the morning, you were awakened by Kotal's retainers to gather in his inner hall. A group of intruders had broken into the castle and threatening the Kahn. You quickly dressed up, readying your weapons and rushed to the scene.

When you arrive, you see the guards, Shokans and Erron Black dealing with said intruders numbering by the dozens while one of them are attacking Kotal Kahn. There is also that mysterious fighter from last night, but he's busy keeping stragglers from escaping the hall. What is distinct about these intruders are that they are all females, and look exactly like each other. They attack in near perfect unison, outnumbering the larger and slower Shokans as well as Erron. The head honcho is even better, going toe to toe with the Kahn himself.

"You will die usurper!", the one facing off Kotal shouts.

Soon enough you too find yourself embroiled in this giant brawl. What will be your next course of action.

You leaped into the Kahn's defense. Quite a difficult feat to do when your boss is swinging a giant sword around trying to hit a nimble assassin. You supported him from afar, throwing daggers at his assailant in a bid to restrict her movements. Eventually it succeeds and she is blown away into a wall by Kotal. writhing in pain.

"Sisters, to me!", she shouted and all others like her rushed for her aid. This would prove to be a fatal mistake as now all of the others have been routed into a single corner. Cornered beasts are not to be underestimated though as they claw their way through you and other kombatants. Quite a few fell to Erron's shots, or the Shokan's fists. Just before they could the exit, defended by the mysterious fighter, a man appeared of thin air into the hall wreathed in green flames.

"Kneel.", he demands.

All of the females, visibly against their will, kneels in front of this man, presumably a sorcerer if you had seen any. Kotal and the others seems to recognize this man as "Shang Tsung", a sorcerer who once served Shao Kahn. The leader of these assassins who is heavily injured shouts in desperation for her sisters to attack.

"Attack him! Kill Shang Tsung, the architect of our misery!"

"How cruel Mileena. Is that how you speak to your father of all people?"

"Shao Kahn is my father, you are his lackey!", she spits.

"Shang Tsung. What treachery is this? Did you send these abominations to kill me?

"Quite the contrary.... I came here to stop my creations from going out of control. Taking back what's rightfully mine, Mileena."

All of the other "Mileenas" rise up, aiming their weapons at the one free from Shang Tsung's control.

"No! Please, sisters! break free from his shackles!", she wailed in desperation.

The sorcerer only laughs as his soldiers closes in on Mileena.

"Did you enjoy your time with your "sisters" Mileena? You and them all are one of my many insurances prepped in the likely event I would untimely perish. Shao Kahn is quite lax to think he can kill me off that easily."

The woman ran towards the exit, but you hit her legs with one of your throwing daggers just in time to trip her. When you arrive to point your blade at her neck, her veil reveals a tarkatan mouth, lined with razor sharp teeths. Yet, she looked so vulnerable, tearing up at her impending demise.

"Good job ninja. Now finish her will you. I have matters to discuss with your liege here.", Shang Tsung exclaimed dismissively.

Lowering your head, you covered her mouth with one hand and whispered to her.

"Play dead if you want to live."

With your ninjato on the other hand, a single slice was delivered just below her neck, close to the collarbone. You were careful not to hist her artery and possibly bleeding Mileena to death. She Struggled a bit before freezing up after a few second. Pretending that the deed is done, you saddled her motionless body with the pretense of disposing it. Shang Tsung and Kotal goes on with their business without a word, the Shokans couldn't even cared less and handled the dead Mileenas but Erron Black looks like he knows you're up to something.

When you're far enough in a hidden corner of the castle, you try to carefully lay Mileena on the floor, not wanting to aggravate the injury you just inflicted. That all got thrown out window when she pushed herself off you, hastily standing up. Her wounds seems to have stopped bleeding, though she still clutches the part of her abdomen hit by Kotal's sword..

"Why spare me, human?! Do not think I would so easily be ensnared by petty notions of gratitude, especially towards Kotal's lackeys!", she snarled, pointing her sai at your face.

How do you answer her question?

"Why you ungrateful little...! I've just risked my life saving you and this is how you respond? Maybe I should finish you for good, not that it's very hard considering your current state!"

Mileena is visibly taken aback by your retort, lowering her head and realizing her position in this matter.

"I am sorry. Forgive me I was just... overwhelmed. No, I do not need anymore enemies in this world do I? My life is yours, for all its worth ninja."

"I do not need your life, assassin. Know this Mileena, that I saved you only because it is in everybody's best interest that you escape alive. That and for those beautiful eyes of y-"

You stopped talking just before you spouted unnecessary details.

"Anyway! I suspect that Kotal had made a devil's bargain with something sinister, and our souls are the chips. Nothing good can come out of this, I'm sure of it. But first, I require answers. She weakly nods at your lengthy demand before tumbling back into the shadows, presumably to find somewhere to recuperate. The Mortal Kombat tournament today will start shortly so you turned towards the courtyard. Just before entering the location however, you are halted by a waiting Erron Black.

"Boah, I thought you're soft. Now I think that you're just plain stupid. You know what you did. If you ain't a fighter for Kotal, I'd had capped you and leave you for the Tarkatans in the desert!"

Erron stormed off to the ring and joining the waiting Shokans. You did the same as well, but what changed form yesterday is the sorcerer Shang Tsung added to the roster to replace the defeated Reptile. Johnny Cage is visibly pissed upon seeing him, of course.

"Asshole! Fight me in the ring, right now, Shang-!"

Raiden stopped him from advancing, instead ordering Sektor to take the stage. The sorcerer, ever smug, simply accepted and ascended onto the ring.

"Your soul magik have no use on me, sorcerer! I am Sektor, the finest of the Cyber Lin Kuei! Prepare to perish!"

"Do not be so sure cyborg. With enough force even metal can be molded like flesh. Even the greatest of warriors can fall, heheh...", Shang Tsung taunted, brandishing his green arcane glow

"The Cyber Lin Kuei are superior to any mortal warriors. Stealthier than the night, Deadlier than the dawn!"

You silently stood whee you are, watching Shang Tsung's kombat with Sektor. Personally you should look forward to seeing the Cyber Lin Kuei garbage can flattened, but you also question the wisdom of cheering on Shang Tsung. Sektor brandishes his machine saw, triggering memories of the Shirai Ryu's slaughter ages ago deep in your psyche. Fist clenched, you stop yourself from leaping into the ring yourself.

"Fight!", Kotal declares, and the two kombatants begin to unleash their terrible powers upon onlookers.

The sorcerer started aggressive, launching a blazing fireball that connects onto Sektor's chest, sending him reeling back. The cyborg responds with a spray of flame from his arm. The fire quickly engulfs his opponent's form, but Shang Tsung reappeared unharmed. The flames he is wreathed in are blown away with one mighty explosion of force. The cyborg's chest cavity opened, revealing a storage of missiles which are launched in one mighty barrage. All audience around the ring jumped for cover as a large crater is formed in the ensuing blast. Still, the fight had not yet been called off. Afte all, neither kombatant is dead yet.

A dome made of skulls covered in green aura can be seen shielding the sorcerer. Falling to pieces, Shang Tsung once again took up the offensive against Sektor. Multiple blasts of flaming skulls were delivered to the cyborg, who barely manage to dodge the first and was pelted by the rest. A giant skull then pops out of the ground, trying to chomp on the disarrayed robot. He managed to jump high enough just in time with his jet pack, but fall again when Shang Tsung's barrage of magic continues.

The cyborg can barely stand, now at the mercy of Shang Tsung. The sorcerer reached his hand out, absorbing ghastly green essence off the dazed Sektor. He then took the form of Sektor, and readies himself for a fatality. A much more coordinated barrage of missiles are released from the morphed sorcerer's chest, one blowing off Sektor's head and the rest decimating each of his limbs.

The sorcerer then changed back to his original form, bowing to a group of agitated audience due to the sheer amount of collateral damage their fight caused. Shang Tsung wins. Fatality....

Johnny Cage wasted no time to jump into action once again, shouting at the Sorcerer.

"Shang Tsung! I know you have her! Give me back my daughter!"

"Your daughter Cage? I had just recently come back to life and I am still catching up to what you Earthrealmers had been up to. Still, I would not deny that I am not beyond such deeds, it is not I that is responsible for your daughter's disappearance.", He exclaimed smugly.

"I will be fighting you, Johnny Cage."

You stepped between the two, sword at hand. Johnny Cage grits his teeth while Raiden looks at you with contempt. The sorcerer smiles mockingly at your intervention. Once challenged, a contestant of Mortal Kombat cannot refused, and you have effectively locked Cage into a match with you. The sorcerer ushered you somewhere a bit more concealed from view before talking to you.

"It seems that the Shirai Ryu's sense of honor burns yet within, ninja. Rest assured I take care of those who treat me well.", Shang TSung exclaimed, summoning a ball of green flame in his hand.

The arcane fire gradually converge into one single object, which was given handed over to you. it is an amulet shaped like a coiling eastern dragon that glows eerily green and warm when touched. When you looked up, the sorcerer looks as if he had aged a decade more in the short span of time you weren't looking.

"This amulet contains a portion of my power. My flames of sorcery are yours to command, but its powers are of limited use."

You clenched your fist, feeling a violent surge of energy upon wearing said amulet. Momentarily, you are wreathed in violent burst of green flame that comes from within, such that you can even visibly see your bones glowing through flesh.

"A taste of what's to come, should you decide to be more of service, ninja. I do not doubt your usefulness, and so does Kotal."

You stride confidently towards the ring to face Johnny Cage, unaware of the sinister smile Shang Tsung is wearing. Yet darker forces flows still within this tournament, waiting to be unleashed....

[EPILOGUE]

In the hellfires of the Netherrealm, a group of revenants gather in a throne room. On top of the throne, an emperor in jet black armor clicks his finger against his stone armrest. After a while of waiting, a revenant ninja appears in a cloud of smoke.

"My lord, it is almost time.", his monotone voice exclaims.

The lord of these revenants then rise. With his arm, he motioned a few others to join him to a runic altar surrounded by flames.

"My love... it seems that in these 2 days, only measly petty souls that are collected. Could Kotal be swindling us?", one with a fan speaks up.

"No, that is not the case. It seems that one of the kombatants are deliberately reducing the casualty of the Mortal Kombat tournament. A ninja named Satsujin. I fear he is privy to our plans, my lord.", the smoke ninja answers.

"If that's the case it seems we have to arrive ahead of schedule, shall we, Kitana? Smoke? Sindel?".

The revenant lord raises his hand, and the altar engulfs itself with hellfire.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The group later reappears inside Kotal Kahn's dungeons, bursting through fiery flames. As they stepped outside, Osh-Tekk guards are alerted to their uninvited intrusion. Several of them charged with a spear. One got a burning fist through the chest for his trouble, while thee rest are torn asunder by the terrible might of the revenant group.

Finally they reach a veranda overlooking a Mortal Kombat match, one the kombatants he recognized all too well. Another is a ninja, emanating green flames he identified belonging to Shang Tsung, but the man standing there himself does not look like Shang Tsung. This does not surprise him, knowing the abilities of the soul stealing sorcerer.

"Shall I notify Kotal Kahn of our arrival, lord Liu Kang?", Sindel asks, looking eager to spread some mayhem on the crowd.

"No. Let's observe this one quietly for now. Wouldn't want to ruin the surprise for "Lord" Raiden now would we?", the revenant emphasized on the lord title of Raiden mockingly.

So the revenants did motionlessly observe the ensuing match, loyally obeying their master.

"Satsujin versus Johnny Cage. Fight!"
