From the person who brought the garbage fire that is AAQ into existence, the less horrible and somewhat original but still pretty bad Colossus Quest, the actually pretty good Construct Necromancer Quest, the continuation of that (A Necromancer Quest), comes...

>Drumroll<

Runic Weapon Quest!

>Fanfare<

Chosen by a combination of Coinflip and Anon at the end of the last quest, actually allowed by me now having free time.

Now, this quest is starting...

>... When we were Forged

>...When we were Found

P.S. I've actually taken on a non-quest related name so I don't have to run that preamble at the top of every thread.

Considering the lack of votes, should I just get on with it? I will in about 20 minutes.

Just FYI, I have the policy that I'll only take a vote when one choice has at least 3 votes. It's not the first to 3 wins, It's just that it's hit sudden death after an hour.

Now, We're being forged. But what are being made into?

"Yes", you respond.

"HAHAHA! I've done it! I've made a sentient weapon! but one last thing..."

He leaves and brings back a bound hog

"Can Yeh Kill?"

He picks you up, at which point you notice that as a weapon, you are rather lacking, really just a dull spike on a handle barely a handspan long.

He stabs you into the hog's neck and you feel... something... flow into you.

"And can yeh forge yerself?"

You have gained an power point! You can use them to upgrade the stats below

The man holds you up to his face

You see another, shorter, stockier man walk in
"THE FOOK ARE YEH DOING JEFFERY?!?!
WHY"S THERE A DEAD HOG?!?! WHAT ARE YEH HOLDING?!?!"

"A WEAPON THAT FECKING FORGES ITSELF JERRY!!!"

"Hello!" You direct at Jerry.

"WHY THE FOOK DID YEH MAKE IT SO SHITTY JEFFERY?!?!"

"SO IT CAN MAKE ITSELF BETTER JERRY!!!"

"THEN LET'S GO KILL THEM FOOKING GOBLINS THEN YA BASTARD, WE NEED TO MAKE IT GET BETTER!!!"

"LET'S FECKING GO THEN JERRY!"

>>3542498
a "Weapon's name"?

People call the Sword of Doom the "Sword of Doom" instead of Harold.

After 5 days, you make some changes. Many changes in fact. Your haft lengthens, making sure that you can't be effective as short as you were. You get heavier, usually helpful in adding weight to a strike. You get sharper, up to a level acceptable on a well-used knife. The swelling, warm feeling that came up inside of you earlier swelled ever further. And your spike? Now a serrated blade. The serrations might get caught on things, but that's surely only useful for more damage, right? you leave some small bit of the essence that you used to upgrade yourself.

Jeffery walks in, giving a start at your improved state.

"I TOLD YOU IT WOULD WORK JERRY!!"

"IT HASN"T CHANGED IN TH- oh it actually has."

"Well, You'll get some more use then Hrunting, we've got some blasphemers incoming."

The brothers are not going to fuck off and are going to prepare for war. The closest clan isn't going to be able to make it in a week, but the brothers are going to barricade the doors, and...

What does Forge Fire do?
>>
>>3547793
Sharpness lvl 4 (12?)
Head lenght (16)
Haft (20)
Axe head (21)

Still very light, but actually sharp and with a reach.

>>3547800
Magic can wait until we are actually a halberd and not just a pointy stick.
Also I think the "holy magic" branch just unlocks new spells that we actually have to buy in a second purchase, that's how it worked for smite didn't it?
>>
>>3547821
You got smite for free, it cost one point to use, and now it costs none.
>>
>>3547820
It causes a fire of equivalent heat to that of a forge to appear for up to 5 seconds at a time. Longer duration with more levels in magic.
>>
I really wanted to be a spear like Gungnir, but it seems like the others want to be axes for our dorfbros.

>>3547821
Can't be a proper axe without more Mass.
>>
>>3547836
Well, you could just be so sharp that you cut through everything with no resistance.
>>
>>3547821
Voting for this. Need the axe head to cleave through the groups of goblins we'll be fighting, cleaving will in turn need sharpness. Haft is also mandatory seeing how getting too close too the giant horde of goblins would probably end up killing the dwarves.
>>
>>3547836
That's true, but being a polearm with a serrated head we need an alternative to not get stuck when there's multiple enemies, and while we might be too light for decent chopping we can still go for sweeps with an axe head.

Going full Gungnir is fine too, so I can retract the vote for the axe head in case of majority.
>>
>>3547821
It may be actually a better idea to switch the head lenght for mass, and we could get Forge fire level 2 too if read it right.

Long boi or magic halberd with an actual weight behind it?
>>
>>3547856
Getting magic is done by upgrading the category itself.
>>
>>3547864
Nevermind then.
It's just a question of lenght versus girt- I mean weight.
>>
>>3547793

Save the rest for fire magic. There's a weapon that's a sword on a stick, Power and Reach together, Perfect for a dwarf.
>>
>>3547793
What are the formulas for cost? Is it the next level costs one more than the previous?
>>
>>3548077
Costs double. This way, you(your wielder) can't just prance through enemy lines.
>>
>>3547793
>>3548084
If that's the case I'm going to vote for the next level of sharpness, an extra inch on the blade up to 4 inches and 3 more pounds in Mass. That should round it out to an even 20 points in cost.

Would it be possible to spend the point on an engraved grip for more purchase for Jerry's hands?

Of the three Brothers, Jimmy did the least work. oh, it was still important, magically hurling darts of iron about, and braining anybody who came too close was most of what he did, as well as healing Jerry and Jeffery as necessary. Jerry laid about him with his hammer, caving and cracking the bones and pulping the skulls of all he walked amongst.

But Jeffery and you, they were the Mightiest on the field as of then. Glowing with searing holy fire, you drank deep of the power of dozens of goblin blasphemers, gutting them, ripping them, impaling them. You and Jeffery, Half Dwarven Hero Were an onslaught of pain and misery to the goblins, untouchable and unstoppable, breaking lines and slaying indiscriminately.

Only the Hobgoblins gave Jeffery pause, being good enough to slow your merciless advance. The Brothers fight their way to the commander, a Bugbear of prodigious size, whom challenges Jeffery to a duel in hopes of not getting in a 3-1 fight.

I'm going to be honest, force damage using Telekinesis would not be a level 3 thing, and knockback would be actively harmful.

>>
>>3553929
you are here!!!
>>
>>3553244
The 6 was a typo.
>>
>>3553929
Adding regular damage would probably make more sense, yeah. But knockback also generally knocking someone over. Perfect for when someone is in melee range and you need them to not be.
All of that said, If Force damage sounds more like a 4th LVL thing then that would be preferable. If it's something you consider much higher level then w/e, it's not the end of the world.
>>
>>3554138
When I hear "knockback" I hear "boot out of attack range". And force damage is more arcane magic than simple abilities. you would need to break into an entirely new area of expertise, more than just a new ability, for proper force damage.
>>
>>3554150
Knockback is very useful for controlling combat. Imagine throwing someone into their allies, or a wall of spikes, or off a cliff. Slamming them onto the ground with it is also an option, leaving them open to melee. We also have an ability before it that makes ranged combat more viable, so keeping them distant is fine.
I should specify that I don't mean that EVERY attack should have Knockback. Sometimes you really just want to stab someone repeatedly. As such, a cooldown or cost until a higher level is reached can be implemented if you deem freely turning it on and off to be OP.
>>
>>3554299
Yeah, knockback is not something you get passively like that, especially if you can control it.
>>
>>3554313
So with the changes mentioned above the list is GM approved? Or is there more to change before it's balanced?
We might want the ability to re-shape at some point in the future too. But that's definitely something that should wait until we have enough TO re-shape and have it be worth while. Not much point in being able to bend or shrink if we can't reach anything normally.
>>
>>3554381
How it goes is you give me the ability, and I do shit with it until I deem it balanced. the order of abilities and abilities you get for kinesis is out of whack in my opinion.
>>
>>3554396

2. This quest is going to be a one shot. I asked some anons what quest they would like to see next, and got 2 recommendations. I, in the sense of fairness, flipped a coin and chose this, the one I do not think is as fun to run. After this thread is over, I will be moving on to quests that came from my ideas.
>>
>>3555132
This does not in any way mean that I am not going to see the thread through, I might not be having as much fun as I'd like, but I certainly won't ruin it for the Anons that participate in this quest.
>>
>>3555138
I totally get you dude, if you're not enjoying yourself enough to keep it going, then it'd just drag on and lose the spark that it started with. I'm DMing IRL and if it wasn't something I enjoy creating then it would be a slog, but I'd do it because the group makes it enjoyable. When you have something that lights the fire though... that's where you start to feel good about what you're doing. Grav-train highsts on a 5g world, Daemon infested backwaters, Impossibly large megastructures in space and their dark underbelly.
Let your creativity shine through man, I look forward to it. You're better at taking abstracts and making them a solid, balanced, thing to play with btw. I just re-skin something that exists when I don't have a step-by-step on making something new.
Sorry for the word wall, I'm either wordy or start speaking/typing in prose when tired. Good night!

Could you state your actions then?

Prepere consumable items they have and find a good choke point that prevents flanking, smoking out, burning down, or other hazards. Otherwise, just psyche ourselves up.
>>
>>3559164
Wait in the door then?
>>
>>3559172
Yes.

I know I said I would see the thread through here
>>3555138
but it turns out that by this point the quest is a corpse that I exhume every couple of hours.

If anyone wants to see this now boring thread through, vote N. If you want me to put this tottering cadaver of a quest down and write an appropriate ending(and choose between the next 2 3 quest ideas I have.)

>Y/N?
>>
>>3559356
Y then
>>
>>3559356
N
The concept of playing as a sentient weapon that upgrades itself is cool to me.
>>
>>3559356
Y, I guess.
>>
I'll leave

till later for me to come to my decision.

or rather, decide when the anons have consensus.
>>
>>3559587
when to cut off the vote at least.
>>
>>3559356
im fine with either. But i am leaning towards yes

Y then.

Now, you have 2 3 choices.

>Undying King Quest
You are a king of the northernmost reaches of the world, who (Through means to be determined in character creation) is now both immortal (to a degree) and ruling the ruins of the former kingdom. You are found, and rule once more.

>Guardian Quest
You are a Guardian. You guard something important. This and your capabilities are to be determined in character creation.

>Hollow Knight Quest
I've always loved Hollow Knight, and in this one, you play as a failed vessel, starting as you wake up from being booted into the Abyss, thankfully not having been hit as hard as your siblings on the way down.
>>
>>3560837
>Undying King Quest
Guardian quest kinda has a nebulous end goal from the sounds of it, which would probably end up like this quest where people drop out due to a lack of direction.
Undying King quest sounds like it has an end goal. Conquer the world and rule eternal. Very definite point where the story ends.
Or I'm pulling all of that out of my ass. One of the two.
>>
>>3560837
>Undying King Quest
Hollow Knight was good though.
>>
>>3561071
You gotta remember, Your goals in Guardian Quest are for you to figure after you create your character. Wouldn't make sense to want to do (x) when your character wants to do (y)
>>
>>3561319
I figured, but I just like the idea of becoming the absolute ruler of everything forever. Hivemind end when?
>>
>>3561365
Probably never. You would need to pull off some right bullshit to actually make it happen, much less sustainably or without resistance.
>>
>>3560837

>>3561071
>>3561134
I'll take it to be option 1. It'll be up tomorrow.
>>
>>3561618
Hopefully you won't bail on this one too.
>>

And so, the story of the Three Brothers comes to an end, Not at the cold hands of death, but with life and joy. The Goblins were turned back, for the clans had arrived. and the spear, Hrunting, went on into legend, eventually making its way into the hands of the dwarvish king. And then into his artifact pile.
>>
>>3560837
undying king or the hollow knight one. Im fine with either and they will be the ones ill be looking out for normally anyway.
