It's not so complicated as all that. Dying seldom is.

You have 9 Alacrity every turn, and spend 1 to move one tile (Cardinally, not diagonally). You take normal actions with 3 Alacrity. That's that. When you do something, you roll Intent (Your fine stats) and relevant secrets (You know skills).

And then you work with the decent or not people around you to avoid a harrowing death.

For an Illusionist, it's mostly trickery, quips and fashionable hats. 1 Alacrity generates 1 Illusion at strength 30, and then you can roll Manipulate+Prestidigation to make people believe it is real. Believe what is real? Well maybe a knife maybe a fire maybe a dragon maybe a wall, that's up to you.

The vaunted small ritual knife acts as a buffer for metaphysical alignment and the occassional spark. Sanctified and layered in bindings, it acts as a little spot of sharp calm in a sea of rage, allowing a Theurge to hold on to more energy than they are otherwise LIMITED TO.

Ah, but friend, did you think buying an entire second swing at a second target (worth: +3 Alacrity, blood) with 1 Glory (worth: 1 alacrity, eternity) was economical? Have some thought for the poor death merchant whose wares you deal in.

You get your Effect, suchlikes as Stun, Bleed, Fire, Knockback, Shatter, Hurt, all these, and you get them for 1% on the Glory-spend. A single point of Glory buys you 1% Cleave. And so any of your fine rolled bones that number exceeds gets you the effect. For your rather raw hunk of metal in the rough shape of a sword, that may be 10% on the bleed and 20% stun, standard-wise, but hardly a barrier prevents it from being 10% on the bleed, 20% stun and 5% knockback from Glory.

That sort of stuff is also, in no fine terms, an oath, of a kind, and then it sustains itself when more Glory is fed to it over time, at one:one and if not glory, then Alacrity.

Now you're getting metaphorical. Curses are insidious and you speak vile words blasphemous against the universe when you HexSpeak. This adds {hits} Curse dice to your target (which can be most anything).

You either: curse them immediately in a specific way

or

let the curse build up, then trigger it with Feedback or another Hexspeak.

Perchance imagine that you Hexspeak a shooter and layer them with 4 Curse. On its own, this just increases their chance of messing up (-4% to hit) and aggravates reality (+4% critfailure). You then Trigger it with another Hex or Feedback, and your Trigger is: Slip On A Banana.

The Curse rolls now, and its hits go towards fulfilling that trigger condition.

Conveniently the first curse and the 2nd trigger can work together, so perhaps a target has 4 curse, and you trigger it again and get 3 hits, then those 3 hits are added to the hits the 4 curse also get.

Finally perhaps you just want to be foul and immediate, and hex a spook to harm his friends - then you simply Curse To Harm Your Friends, and that Curse is triggered already, doing just that.

With a clicking clack the crossbow bolts re-arm, fully automated garden defenses for the clever Gardener.

Staring through a shimmering hedge and beyond it a shuddering wall, we get to glean a few smaller hunting hounds prowling a deep scar in the earth. We know they are attracted to displays of the more extra-natural, so perhaps they root in the broken dirt for treasures.

Without knowing a specific encyclopedia, and having never found a library, dearest Patch has no time to stuff their pockets with sundry books. A little cunning cleverness however can easily displace some horror - if one is assaulted by scything tendrils from the dark that maul and maim flesh and prefer striking from odd ambush, we are beset perhaps by a Growler or a Grask or a Gheist, but given the lack of screaming hellfire or everyone dying, that latter is unlikely.

A Growler it is then! Deep beasts from odd corners, they are solitary ambush predators that haunt low loam and sink their many fangs into the unwary, guarded at all times by their flailing, feeling tentacles.

Silver pops a wonderful copy of Enias in the deeper dark, and there it stands, declaring defiantly that it is the actually real Enias. Surely it is so. From the Dark, the Grabber does not strike this time - perhaps we scared it off? Lucky!

We hex the damnable Gardener, wrenching it with cosmic hate and a spark of malign influence. Yet, somehow, even the direst of curses slide off of the craggy shell of this oathsworn plantbrother, only the barest bite.
