“So, that’s all what happened after the Tournament?” Zarid asks. You give a nod. “Man, Gohan, this is some crazy stuff.”

“Crazy is one way to put it. Still, now it’s all behind us, and more importantly, Tapion and his brother are free from Hirudegarn, for good.”

Zarid rubs his chin. “You mentioned they were planning on checking back on their homeworld, any clue on when they’ll leave?”

“A couple weeks. Bulma’s gotten the star charts for them all set up, and has been able to get them a ship capable of getting them there. In the meantime, they’ve been spending their time catching up on all the lost time, and doing a bit of training with us.” You grin. “I’ve actually been helping them learn a certain technique. The Kaio-Ken.”

“Oh yeah, I remember seeing that. The one with that blazing red aura, right?” he asks, and you nod again.

You get an idea. “Actually, I was about to head out and help them practice today. Wanna come with?”

“Sure. Seeing how that technique works sounds like a good idea.” he replies cheerfully. “It’d certainly give me a new goal to work towards.”

“Sweet! I’ll take you to them!” You call for the Nimbus, Zarid hopping on it as the two of you take off towards Tapion and Minotia. Along the way, you think to ask Zarid, “So, you and Sachie are still training under the same master, right? What’s he like?”

“Master Tsukutsun Tsun is a Kung Fu master from China, though he took up residence in Penguin Village with his family. He looks a bit like Mr... Yamcha, I believe was his name? He’s rather polite but can be stern when training his students. Heh, Sachie actually got recommended to train with him by her father, to help hone her physical abilities. I joined up with her in order to get stronger myself.” Hesitantly, Zarid adds, “He does have some... unusual abilities, though.”

“How so?”

Zarid rubs the back of his neck. “He turns into a tiger whenever touched by a woman.”

What?

He laughs. “It was strange when I first saw it too. Sachie tried to shake his hand, and then bam, became a tiger person.”

You... actually aren’t as surprised as you probably should be. “Heh, one of my great aunt’s fighters is a werewolf who turns back into a person whenever he sees a full moon. So, sounds like your master might have something similar.”

“In addition, he’s exceptionally strong, able to keep pace with some of the powerhouses of the village. Way stronger than Sachie or I when we started out, and apparently he’s got a hidden strength that allows him to surpass even Mrs. Arale when he’s enraged enough.”

“...The same Arale that beat my dad?” you ask him. “Wow, no wonder you two are so tough.”

“We still have a ways to go, and Sachie honestly makes it look easy with all her tricks she’s been able to learn. But I’m going to keep at it. For my village and for myself.”

Finally arriving at where you told Tapion and Minotia to meet you, Zarid hops off the Nimbus and you all introduce one another. Tapion seems curious about the new arrival, while Minotia is almost overly friendly towards him, the young boy excited over this bout of training.

“Come on, Gohan! Let’s see it again! I think I’ve almost got the hang of this!” Minotia declares with almost boundless energy.

“Calm down, Minotia.” Tapion tells his brother with a soft laugh.

Well, for Zarid’s sake, maybe you should go over the basics again. But at the same time, you wanna make sure Tapion and Minotia have this down. “Okay! Start it from the top. You focus your Ki around your body, calming it but readying it. Your mind needs to be focused for the intense Ki control needed. Then, timed with the beat of your heart, you let out that tranquil surge of power!” As you state each step, you preform it yourself, declaring out, “KAIO-KEN!” as you do.

Zarid takes a step back as your Ki surges, Minotia watching you excitedly, but Tapion keeping the calm but focused look on his face. He takes a deep breath. “All right. Here it goes.” Tapion powers up, letting his Ki build up around him, then releasing it in that tranquil surge, declaring as you did, “KAIO-KEN!”

A red aura surrounds him as his power doubles, Tapion taking a moment to focus it properly, his body calmed but focused as he maintains the state. You grin wide. “Looks like you’ve managed it perfectly.”

“Man, it’s a good thing you learned this after we got rid of Hirudegarn. Who knows what might’ve happened if your Ki and the monster’s Ki got boosted like this.” Minotia comments.

“Man, it seems so simple in concept, but I notice that it takes very psecise timing.” Zarid observes. “You said timing it with a heartbeat, yes?”

“Yeah. It’s multiplying your own power by sort of throttling it. Thing is, it can take a real toll on your body if you’re not careful. Wears out your muscles and stamina reserves. Heh, apparently took my mom months to learn the first time she tried.”

Tapion drops out of the form and exhales deeply. “Practice does make perfect. Even with high levels of strength, one wrong move could make all of this go fairly poorly.”

Zarid scratches his head. “Wonder if that’s what Master Tsun uses, in concept. The aura isn’t quite the same, but maybe it’s how he gets so much stronger when furious...”

“Say, you mentioned he was from... China, right? Where is that, again?” you ask.

“A ways away from my homeland, but closer to Sachie’s. Has a very rich martial arts tradition, among the oldest in the world.”

“Huh, neat. Has he fought any dangerous foes from there? Like, demons or genies or Majins or aliens?”

“Think so. There was this one powerful man-eating demon I remember him telling Sachie and myself about, sealed away in a teapot, that he and Mrs. Arale fought together. He doesn’t actually remember beating the monster, and for a long time assumed it was Arale that beat it, only for his wife to explain to him that he was the one to do so, attacking it in rage when it advanced on her.”

“Ahhh. The power of love.” Minotia comments, laughing. “Of course, of course. Cliche, but hey, it works.”

You laugh. “Well, intense emotion can help bring out hidden depths of strength. That’s kinda how we’ve been able to unlock a different kind of power, though I remember Mr. Konpei explaining that there are some complications to that. Something about chakras and the like.”

“Speaking of transformations, I’ve another one you guys might be interested in. It’s a little something my mom managed to develop when she was much younger: the Raio-ken.”

“Raio-ken?” the three of them repeat.

“Yeah. Mom was able to learn it thanks to a special crown that teaches you how to dodge lightning. It’s up on a mountain near where Chuu Lee, one of my first teachers, lives.” you explain. “Though, it does kinda take knowledge of how the Kaio-ken works to really be able to use effectively, but it’s much easier to maintain in comparison. Unlike the Kaio-ken, which boosts your power overall, the Raio-ken uses that same kind of tranquil surge to increase the uder’s speed. One of my strongest moves actually has that as a part of it, using its speed-bosting to great effect.”

“Interesting. I may have to check it out.” Tapion comments.

“I wanna learn it! Can I see, Gohan?” Minotia calls out excitedly.

“Heh, well, a demonstration won’t hurt... watch this.” Your aura flares up, sparking slightly as you then declare, “Raio-ken!” and bolt off into the sky, flying around at tremendous speeds, streaking through the air. After giving them the fancy display, you head back down, standing before them with a proud smile on your face. “So, how about it?”

“SO COOOOOL!” Minotia declares excitedly.

“That’s amazing. And... you said your mom was the one who developed this technique?” Zarid asks.

“More or less. It was a lesson that she learned when she was much younger, about my age, really. On how to be quiet as the sky, but faster than lightning, training reflexes at high speeds and harnessing her power in new ways.”

“Man, this could be really handy next time Sachie and I spar... how long does it take to truly manage something like this?” Zarid questions next.

“Well, it would help to get the basics down with the Kaio-ken, but I could show you guys how it works. Tapion’s the only one who might manage it completely though...”

“I am willing to try it out.” Tapion replies. “Though I would also wish to test the Kaio-ken on its own.”

“I’ve got an idea. Let’s test it out first, so you’ve got a good hang of this, but let’s do it in a more... challenging way, to really put it to the test.” You take a fighting stance. “Minotia, Zarid, you guys follow along, Tapion and I will start heading towards the mountain, but we’ll train along the way, test the speed and skill with the technique.”

“Sounds like an interesting challenge. I accept.” Tapion replies, charging his Ki. “Whenever you’re ready, Gohan.”

“Okay, come at me, Tapion!”

“KAIO-KEN!”

The red-headed alien bolts towards you, with you doing your best to dodge his attacks. He’s not quite up to the level needed to do some serious damage to you with the technique, but you’re using this to help yourself train and learn. And you are quite surprised by how well Tapion’s taken to the technique, his own skills clearly amplified by it. You start on the ground, but eventually take to the air as you avoid Tapion’s blows, dodging and parrying as best you can.

“You’re still holding the technique. Nicely done, Tapion.” you praise.

“I did have fairly decent instruction on it.” he replies, a quick arm-thrust aimed at your torso dodged only thanks to your quick thinking. “You and Pantea have helped me substantially, as has Izumi.”

“Heh, you’ve helped me quite a bit yourself.” The two of you keep at it. You’re getting close to Mount Rumble, you can feel it. But you’ll need to pick up the pace if you want to make sure Tapion’s really gotten the most out of the Kaio-ken.

Blitzing around one another, you and Tapion clash again and again, the intensity ramping up. You speed up just a bit more, truly retaliating now as you get closer and closer to the mountain. You dodge one more of Tapion’s blows, and then return with a fierce roundhouse kick that knocks him to the ground... one that hits a little too hard. Oops. “Ah! Tapion! Tapion, are you okay?”

“B-been through worse... ow...” He gets up as you approach, dusting himself off. “Your strength is the real deal, Gohan. I’m impressed.”

“Heh, okay, enough with the sparring. I think you’ve got the hang of this.” You help him up. You then point out where Mount Rumble is. “Destination’s right over there. So, how about we race the rest of the way? You can use the Kaio-ken if you want.”

“That sounds fair.” Tapion nods, powering up. “Kaio-ken!”

Bolting to the sky once more, you and Tapion charge ahead... and while initially you had the lead, you find yourself losing ground to Tapion. You try to pick up speed again, but before you can... it’s too late. Tapion touches down on the mountaintop just a few moments before you do. Minotia and Zarid arrive just a short while after the two of you. “Wow, that was awesome! You’re the best, bro!”

“Heh, nice work, Tapion. You really have mastered the Kaio-ken.” You approach the pillar where the Sacred Crown resides. “So, you place this upon your head, and dodge the lightning bolts it summons. Keep that up until it feels almost natural, and you’re able to let your Ki surge with this kind of speed.”

“Very well.” Tapion picks it up, and you step away to give him space.

“Good luck, Tapion!” Minotia shouts.

“A little... different from what I was expecting.” Zarid tells you. “So, does it give some sort of magical boost through accomplishing this task, or does it unlock the ability from within?”

“I think it’s a little of both, if I’m remembering correctly.” you reply, watching carefully as Tapion begins to dodge the bolts of lightning.

“What about that other form, the one with the golden hair and everything?” Zarid questions.

“Ah, that’s a bit more exclusive. It’s something unique to us Saiyans, a legendary power awakened through intense focus and emotion, one that focuses our chakras in a way that goes beyond even the power of the Kaio-ken. But, through the Raio-ken, mom and others have unlocked another kind of ability that functions a bit like it. My friends Videl and Pantea, and my teacher Chuu Lee, in addition to mom, all have it. I think you might’ve seen Chuu Lee and Videl use it during the Tournament.”

“Hmm... guess that’s gonna be a long ways off before I can do something like that.” He then smiles and laughs. “There were a few people that actually managed things like this in Penguin Village. I remember seeing a man transform into some kind of robotic counterpart face off against Arale in a sparring match, and then this alien-like monster with this weird head. Reminded me of some kind of movie monster.”

“Gohan, I’m going to be honest with you. I have no clue. It seems even more absurd to me than it probably does to you. I saw hills with eyes. Hills. With. Eyes. Sachie was barely phased by all of it, but it is an odd town over near Japan.” he responds comically seriously. “And martial arts’re certainly nowhere near as common as over here, that’s for sure.” Zarid rubs his chin. “Hmm... there are still a few. Sachie is actually part of a clan of powerful ninja, for example. I know of some in America and the rest of Asia, and some in Europe and-” Zarid stops himself. “Ah. Um. Different nations and continents. Our world isn’t anywhere near as united as yours. Lot more squabbling... and honestly, as interesting as some places are back home, your world seems more... peaceful.”

You sigh loudly. “Yeah, except for every few years when some crazed monster or alien or demon pops up trying to conquer or destroy us all. Like what happened with Hirudegarn just recently, and why my sister and mom went off-world.”

“That is fair. Still, I do hope I can come here more often.”

“Say, what about your own home, Zarid? What’s it like? You’re quite the dedicated martial artist yourself, is there anyone else like that back in your home town?”

“I used to have an old teacher before Master Tsun, a man who trained my father before he passed on.” Zadir crosses his arms, looking down. “He... left some time ago, but he did have a few pupils who took up his teachings. I’m still one of the best in our village, though, in spite of my youth, and I’ve only gotten stronger. It’s one reason I was chosen by aliens to save their world from a gang of bandits, alongside Sachie. It was... in exchange for a sapling set to help feed them.” Zarid smiles softly. “I truly do owe Sachie for her help in saving my village. It went from a withering desert to a paradise thanks to her.”

Tapion finally finishes up his training with the Sacred Crown, with it flying off his head and back on to the pillar. A blue, sparking aura surrounds him as he looks over to you. all He’s done it. “WOW! Me next! ME NEXT!” Minotia calls out.

“I think you should wait on it, at least until you’re sure you have the Kaio-ken under your belt.” Tapion tells his brother. He then tests out his newfound speed, bolting around the area. He lands next to you, powering down. “Thank you, Gohan. This is a tremendous help.”

“Aw it’s nothing, just paying you back for all the help you’ve given me. Let’s call each other even.”

You then get a telepathic contact from... auntie Trip? ‘Gohan, are you available at the moment?’

>A. Sure, what’s up?
>B. Kinda am, can you check back another time?
>C. Minotia, you want help learning the Kaio-ken too?

‘Piccolo has been working with my assistants to repair some parts of the Lookout, but we’ve started experiencing some issues with it. The Hyperbolic Time Chamber, the Pendulum Room, and a number of other parts have been experiencing... issues.’

‘What kind of issues?’ you look away, raising an eyebrow.

‘The Pendulum Room’s simulations have been appearing in places where they are not supposed to, and Piccolo keeps needing to safeguard Mr. Popo while he tries to get the Time Chamber’s engines functional again. Worse... we keep seeing, well... “you” show up.’

You shake your head. “...Um, guys, just a moment.” You walk off and mumble out a “what” as you telepathically respond to her with it.

‘We are not entirely sure either. We believe it has something to do with your last usage of the Pendulum Room. If you are not too busy, could you come down here and help with this?’

>A. Of course! I’ll be right there, just gotta let Tapion, Minotia, and Zarid know

Tapion tilts his head. “Your planet’s Guardian requested your assistance, did she?”

“Yeah. Something weird’s going on up in the Lookout. How about you, Zarid? You up for helping out a God?”

To your surprise, he nods immediately. “I managed to help my world’s Kami once before. Just show me the way.”

“Awesome! All right guys, let’s go!”

Arriving at the Lookout, the place still under repairs but at least lacking the large holes Hirudegarn smashed through it, Trip greets you all with Yosei by her side. “I thank you for coming to assist, Gohan. And thank you all for coming with him.”

You and your friends all nod in response. “Hey, it’s no problem. Where do you need us?”

“We have a couple places that require your assistance. The Hyperbolic Time Chamber, the Pendulum Room, and and the Lookout’s Vault.” she explains, walking you all to the main building. “These are the places we have had the most trouble with.”

“We’re especially worried about the Vault, it has several objects we have tried to store for safekeeping.” the fairy girl explains, Zarid looking at her curiously while Minotia and Tapion seem... oddly familiar with her, like they’ve seen someone like her before. “That we’ve seen things pop up in there is especially worrying.”

“Very well. This way.” Trip leads you all into the Lookout’s inner chambers. You arrive at the entrance to a larger room, Trip placing her hand on a panel outside it and letting out a jolt of Ki that gets the doors to open. “I must ask that you be especially careful in here. There are a number of artifacts we have had to secure in here that are either rather valuable, or have been sealed away for good reason. Tread carefully.”

“We will. Should be done with this soon.” you tell her confidently, heading in with everyone. The door closes behind you, the white marble room filled with curious trinkets and packages. Some set as if almost on display, some bound and covered in specialized charms. You even see a few larger texts, ones that give off an ominous aura.

“Well, this is only the third most eerie museum I’ve been in.” Zarid remarks. “Then again, the second one had some kid with strange mirror illusions and the first had a guy who made paintings come to life.”

“Huh. Those are some odd types of magic.” you remark.

“Weren’t too much trouble in the end. Hopefully this will be even less so.”

You nod, then look to Tapion. “Say, did your Kami have things like this?”

“His temple did possess a number of magical artifacts and loads of research he’d been conducting before Hirudegarn rampaged across our world.”

“Yeah, like that spooky mask, or that weather-controlling rod, or that i-” Minotia stops himself as he notices something in the distance. “...imp.” he finishes. Minotia points forward and asks, “You guys see that, right?”

You look where he’s pointing, and spot a small, blurry image. A shape that’s not quite taken form, but has a rough outline of a small, imp-like figure. Sort of reminds you of Pilaf, but Pilaf photographed like he were some elusive cryptid.

You telepathically tell everyone to lower their Ki as you observe the blurry figure. It sort of... shambles around the place, slowly starting to take proper form. It is something like Pilaf, though not... wait. Wait you’ve seen this person before. “Hrrrrggghh...”

“What... is that?” Zarid asks quietly.

“Ka... mi... will... per... ish...”

“Garlic Jr. The son of a candidate for our world’s Guardian, one with an evil heart, who bore a grudge against our previous Kami for it.” You shake your head. “He died a long time ago, before I was even born.” The figure... more of a phantom, really, shambles aimlessly. He... doesn’t really seem to be aware of his surroundings, though given how he’s able to feel around, he is clearly looking for something. And sensing his Ki, he doesn’t seem all... there to begin with, fluctuating and spiking, sort of like-

“Gohan, over there!” Minotia points out next.

Garlic Jr. turns his attention to where Minotia was pointing, and... it’s... you. You in the very same outfit you wore for the Tournament. You... the other you, that is, swoop down at Garlic Jr. and... kick him away from a platform with one of those ominous books on it. The other you then bolts away and... stomps down on Garlic Jr, finishing him off brutally.

Zarid and Minotia both flinch, but you and Tapion keep your eyes focused on the figure. The other you starts to move away, heading deeper into the room.

“After him!” you call out, running forward with everyone. As he begins to walk forward, you sense around. It... DOES feel like you. And the phantom that was Garlic Jr. has all but disappeared, just a remnant of what was there. Ugh, what even IS this? You look forward again... and he’s noticed you.

He looks around at all four of you... hand moving towards his blade. The other Gohan then picks up the pace, running deeper into the Vault. Everyone tries chasing after him, but he surprises you all by spinning around and thrusting his palm forward, letting out a powerful Kiai. You’re knocked back along with Zarid, Minotia managing to avoid it and Tapion actually reflecting part of it back with his barrier. The other Gohan draws his sword and takes a slash at Tapion, who brings his own out to guard against the slash.

“You, what are you?” Tapion asks.

He glances over at you and gives you an uncomfortable glare. Silently, he pushes back against Tapion and tries to head off again. He... he definitely has your Ki. Wow it feels weird sensing someone else with it. It is, as far as you can tell, “you.”

You power up. All right, if he wants to do things the hard way, you’ll do things the hard way. Dashing ahead of Tapion, you try to block him off, only to get smacked aside as he heads forward as well. Tapion tries to follow forth, but the other Gohan clashes blades with him once more, and manages to use his greater strength to force Tapion back, even firing off a Geist Magnum at him that the warrior barely avoids.

Minotia however cleverly uses the distraction you and his brother provide to form up his own barrier as he launches forward, crashing into the other Gohan. He’s able to take the hit, but is still forced back slightly. Zarid helps you up. “Still only in the third spot for the most eerie museum-type place I’ve been to, but it’s quickly encroaching on second.”

As the other Gohan uses a Spirit Ball to try and barrage Minotia’s barrier, he sees you standing again, and again he glares at you silently. In one final thrust, he smashes the sphere of Ki into Minotia’s barrier and heads off. The four of you try to chase after him again, but... he’s gone. Vanished.

Your palm smacks into your face. “Great. Just great. Get shown up by a copy of myself. Juuuuust great!”

“Something is off about him.” Tapion comments. “He fights viciously, but he didn’t attempt to land any fatal blows on us. Wound, certainly, but only to facilitate his escape.”

“Where’d he even run off to?” Minotia asks. “This place doesn’t have another exit as far as I can tell.”

You sigh loudly and contact Trip, letting her know what happened. As you get to the Vault’s entrance again, she’s there waiting, and gives you a pat on the head. “It is okay, Gohan. We have a better idea on what this other you is capable of, at the very least.”

“Do we, though?” Zarid questions. “This seems like it’s only left us with more questions than answers.”

“I have an idea, but it will require making sure the Pendulum Room is fully operational. But at the same time, we can’t have him going after Piccolo and Mr. Popo while they try to repair the Hyperbolic Time Chamber’s engines...”

“Heh, I guess I kinda signed up for this. I’m gonna see it through.” Zarid responds confidently.

“We do need a plan, though. Is there some way to keep that other Gohan from disappearing like he did before?” Tapion asks.

“Piccolo knows of a way. If you can keep him busy, I am sure that Piccolo will be able to keep him from vanishing again.” Trip replies. “Best of luck.”

You’re guided to the Time Chamber, entering it and looking out into the massive white void beyond the initial building. “Gohan, over here.” Piccolo’s voice calls out to you. You’re guided to the large hourglasses flanking the building, seeing Mr. Popo working on them as Piccolo stands near him. “Trip filled me in. These are critical to the function of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. We need to make sure they’re in proper working order.” Piccolo nods his head to the other one... which is cracked and leaking.

“W-woah!” Zarid calls out as he steps into the void. “Anyone else feeling heavier in here? Is it just me?”

“It is not just you.” Tapion affirms. “The gravity in here is greater than outside this chamber.”

“Keep your focus. We need to be on-guard. No telling what could be waiting for us.” Piccolo states.

And as if on cue, you feel something approach... something with substantially high strength. Another blurry figure shambles forward in the distance. A tall one, with large horns. Majin Ozotto? No... no, not quite. Different. Almost... wait. That looks a bit like... Kuriza, but it’s... oh no.

“Everyone, keep back! We need to hold them off while Mr. Popo finishes up those repairs! Stick together!” You leap over to Popo, taking up a defensive stance, Zarid, Tapion, and Minotia all gathered around you. Piccolo stands above you all, focused, as the foes start to move in closer and closer. Turles makes the first move, his Ki skyrocketing as his hair stands up... ah. Ah right. He can do that.

“HRRRAAAAH!” the Saiyan, now Super Saiyan, yells out, bolting towards you. You block the hit, forcing him back, as Tapion and Minotia blocking King Cold and Bongo as they attempt to slash at them, Tapion even managing to slice off Bongo’s arm... only for it to regenerate, leaving a silvery replacement. King Vegeta takes a shot at the last of your group, but Zarid ducks under him and brings one arm down, knuckles nearly touching the ground, before swinging it up with tremendous force, smashing King Vegeta in the gut hard enough to force him back. Piccolo then assists you all with a powerful Kiai that forces all your foes away for a moment.

They try to regroup, only for you to hear footsteps. Someone comes running at them from the other side of the Time Chamber, and in a flash, smashes his fist into Bongo’s side, tearing through his mechanical innards. His hand moves to his sword as he begins to power up. It’s... the other you.

You leap into action, transforming as your counterpart transforms as well, the two of you knocking away Turles and King Vegeta. With your sword drawn, you look to him, then glance at Cold. He glares at you angrily, and King Cold uses that as an opportunity to get the both of you while you’re distracted, attempting to gore you with his horns. You and your counterpart dodge the horns, but he’s able to get in a cheap shot, smashing his fists into your faces as he rushes past.

The two of you are able to recover from the blow, though. The other Gohan looks at you again, not as angrily, and then at King Cold. He nods. You grin a little, and the two of you ready your swords as King Cold turns around. In a flash, like bolts of lightning, you and your counterpart slash through him with an X-Strike.

King Cold is stunned, looking down at himself as he notices his wound at his waist. His mechanical parts crackle and break, and before he falls he makes one last defiant attempt on your life, raising his hand over his head and forming a ball of Ki above a finger.... only for Tapion to come in and deliver the killing blow, the body of the phantom returning to the blurry form it appeared as, until finally vanishing.

Minotia manages to take Bongo down with Ki-boosted sword beams, keeping at it until the villainous echo can’t regenerate anymore, and finishing it off by pulling his sword back and thrusting a palm forward, blasting the remaining bits to dust. Piccolo takes down Turles by surrounding him with Ki blasts and then having them converge on the sinister Super Saiyan, declaring, “HELLZONE GRENADE!”

Finally, you notice Zarid still holding his own against King Vegeta, even gaining the upper hand against the Saiyan monarch, dodging each blow expertly and countering and parrying when he sees the chance.

You head off towards Mr. Popo while looking towards Zarid. The two of you make eye contact, and you give him a thumb’s up. “You’ve got this, Zarid!”

“Thanks, Gohan!” he replies, dodging a Ki blast from King Vegeta. They keep at it, clashing, blow after blow, the larger Saiyan getting more and more frustrated against his opponent. Every punch and chop countered with an elbow strike or a throw, every kick and knee strike dodged and parried. It’s taking a bit out of him to really keep up, but Zarid’s giving this his all. He leaps in the air and spins his body around as King Vegeta tries to fire off a Galick Gun at him, striking the Saiyan in the back of the neck with a Ki-boosted chop. Zarid lands as the Saiyan stumbles forward, bringing his hands above his head, crossing his arms as Ki builds up in his palms. “This is it! HRRAAAH!” He thrusts both hands down and lets out an energy blast from the ground, traveling out like a genuine wave, overwhelming King Vegeta.

You get to Mr. Popo, and not a moment too soon, as a figure looms over him. A blone-haired man with blue skin, seems to be someone from Brench, with a blade of energy coming out of his arm. You kick him aside and follow it up by charging energy through your hand. He tries to slash down at you with the Ki blade, but you catch it with your hand, smashing through it to his surprise and grabbing him as flaming energy flows around your palm. “BURNING! CRUUUSHEEERRR!” You lift him above your head. “HEAT END!” In an eruption of power, the phantom of the fighter is finished off. Whew. That was a close one.

Looking back, you see the other Gohan head off again.

“Heh, no problem, Mr. Piccolo. Bet you could’ve handled it yourself, though.”

“Still minimized the risks to the repairs of the engine. Thank you, all of you, for the help.”

“Hoooh. That guy was tough.” Zarid exhales in exhaustion. “One wrong move and I could’ve been in serious trouble.”

“You did handle yourself quite well. Your skills are sharp.” Tapion praises.

“Hmm... just one thing on my mind.” you comment aloud, then contract Trip. ‘We’ve faced off against more foes from the past, and that other me showed up again. Has the Pendulum Room been active at this time? What’s the deal over there?’

‘Just a moment.’ she replies as she goes to check. ‘...So that’s the issue. I believe I have found what is wrong.’

“Ah, finally some good news.” you speak aloud. “What’s the issue, Trip?”

‘A lingering malicious Ki seems to have taken up residence inside one of the simulations, and it is attempting to break free. It seems to be trying to activate a number of scenarios to build up its strength, using this chaos to brute force its way out.’

“Hmnh. If I had to guess, none of these can actually leave the Lookout, not until it’s strong enough to manifest completely.” Piccolo speculates. “Do you know where it’s hiding?”

‘I have some ideas. There are five points it keeps trying to activate, and seems there were more before you dealt with them. If we can shut them all down, we can be rid of this for good.’

Minotia holds his sword up high. “All right, then what’re we waiting for? Let’s finish this!”

“Understood, Gohan. We’re with you.” Tapion nods.

“Very well. Be careful, everyone. If things get too much for you to handle the simulation should end.” Trip adds, guiding you all into the room. “Best of luck.”

“We’ll be back before you know it!” you tell her confidently. “With Ozotto beat and one of these scenarios down!”

She smiles, and in a flash of light you and your friends are brought to a large, circular ring. Floating in the middle of it... Majin Ozotto. He chuckles softly. “Well now, do we have some new warriors who wish to face me in combat? The Tournament is still a couple days away.” His tail sways as he turns his head. “Hmm... one of you DOES seem rather familiar, though. Ah, but I have definitely not seen the three of you before. You-” He pauses as he looks to Tapion, more specifically, the sword on his back. “...you have something especially interesting.”

“Sorry Ozotto, it’s not yours to take.” you tell him, stepping forward.

“Hmm... your mind’s rather sealed off. Just like hers.” Ozotto looks you over curiously. “Do you intend to face me alone, boy?”

“I’ll beat you fair and square, one on one.” You take your stance, powering up slightly. “I’ve got plenty of techniques you’d probably want to see. Ones they’ve not had a chance to witness yet.”

Ozotto grins and laughs. “Well well, you certainly are confident, boy.” He lowers his arms, his aura surging up around him. “You think you can beat me?”

“I know I can kill you.” The two of you stare each other down, but telepathically, you contact everyone else. ‘Keep your guard up. Last time I fought him he had part of his soul put into an organic body. If you feel it start to power up, get to it and take it down. And keep watch for anything else suspicious.’

Tapion nods. ‘Understood. Good luck, Gohan.’

“Let the games begin!” Ozotto declares.

You power up further, transforming into Super Saiyan and, tauntingly, motioning for Ozotto to come at you. In a flash, the massive Majin bolts towards you, unleashing a flurry of blows... that you dodge with expert skill, almost making it look easy. You pay careful attention to his tail as well, keeping your body well away from it.

“You’re quite a bit stronger than the others I felt. Only one that came close was that little guest I sensed the other day.” Ozotto compliments, putting more and more power into each strike.

“Is that so?” You dodge under a kick from one of his massive legs and twist your body around as his tail bolts toward your torso. His claws slash at you in an attempt to grapple, only for you to flip up and over him, smacking him on the top of his head and pushing yourself off, landing some distance away.

“Yes. He was quite a treat. Though I can tell that this isn’t your full strength, is it?” the monster questions, his body changing shape... and turning into Vegeta. He pulls his hand back and charges an energy attack, then thrusts it forward like a one-handed Kamehameha. You deflect it into the sky, Ozotto changing shape again, now taking the form of... dad. “You know, I think I know what you remind me of. Son Goku’s little boy. That red-haired scamp. Ah, such an innocent child.”

“Yeah. I bet I do.” You bring up a defensive stance again.

Ozotto-Goku squints. “...Curious. I thought something like this may be going on. Come to stop me from the future, boy?”

You smirk. “I’m here to make you wish you stayed in that bucket.”

He moves to you again, this time trying out some of your father’s skills against you, more nimble and calculated in his attacks. Heh, almost does feel like your last sparring session with dad. To try and trip you up, Ozotto changes back briefly and nearly grabs your arm with his tail, only for you to parry it with a quick Ki blast and dodge another incoming strike. Slowly but surely, Ozotto starts to lose what advantage he may have had initially. “You... you certainly are more formidable than I’d expected, I’ll give you that.”

“Really? Because what you said before is right. This isn’t my full strength. Not even half of it.”

His Ki seems to... pulse for a moment, Ozotto looking at you in surprise as it does. He then quickly darts his eyes around, almost like he feels something familiar. “...Well, Gohan, I do hope you’re not doing this just so you can stop playing second fiddle to your sister.”

Oh boy here we go. “Something you know that I don’t?”

His body... fidgets slightly. “Something I remember, boy. You’re not very proactive. You’re... a... coward... and...” You feel his strength rise, just a little more than it was before. “Rgh...”

“Gohan, there’s something else here!” Tapion calls out, his sword drawn, Minotia and Zarid standing ready with him.

Yeah, not gonna even pretend to care about him playing therapist. You power up further, letting your Ki skyrocket as your hair spikes up more. “Okay Ozotto. Game’s over. This is the power BEYOND Super Saiyan! HRRAAAAH!” You transform into Super Saiyan 2 and launch at him so quickly he doesn’t even see you coming, with your fist slamming into his gut with enough force to send him back. Ozotto tries to counter, throwing some multicolored Ki blasts from his tail, but your speed’s substantially beyond his. Ozotto then tries to unleash a massive Explosive Wave, but before he can you kick him in the back of the head and knock him down.

“You... s-stand... still...!” Ozotto yells out, his body morphing into several different people, each trying out a technique of their own against you. Lapis letting out a blast of Shadow magic, Krillin using the Destructo Disk, Launch letting loose a barrage of Ki blasts, uncle Raditz with his Double Sunday technique, and each one either missing you completely or being deflected with ease. He finally tries to trip you up by shapeshifting his body into mom, but you kick him back down before he gets a chance to show off again.

“You’re through, Majin Ozotto! RAIO-KEN!” Bolting around him at even greater speeds, you let loose a relentless series of blows. Even with the boost in his strength, you’re simply too quick for him to get a good counterattack in. Finally, you get some distance and build up momentum... “SHIIIIIINE...” and launch down at him with full force! “SPAAAAAAAAAARRRK!”

He looks up in disbelief as you slam down into, and THROUGH him, coming to a stop a short distance away. You look back, the demon torn in two... but with something else standing beside him. A shadowy figure, blurry, just like the phantoms from before. Ozotto... looks oddly content, smiling even. “...So we meet again, if only briefly. Carry my grudge. Old... fr...”

“Gohan, that’s it!” Tapion calls out, rushing forward. He’s able to get it to back away, but in doing so it blasts him back in retaliation. You try to go after it... but it vanishes. The simulated time period fades from around you.

“They did it! It’s shut down completely!” Yosei cheers. “That’s one down, four to go!”

You sigh and power down. “But looks like we saw a glimpse of whatever’s doing this. And boy does it not seem friendly.”

Trip rubs her forehead after you explain what you saw. “I was afraid of this.”

“You know what it is?” Tapion questions.

“It seems to be a remnant of Ozotto’s ally, a being that invaded your world, Zarid.” Trip explains. “A Dark Phantom, a demonic force that tried to plunge multiple worlds into chaos. A Majin like Ozotto.”

You and Zarid look at one another, the two of you apparently recalling hearing stories about that. “So... how do we deal with it?” you ask. “And how exactly is it still around?”

“My best guess is that the Phantom’s remnants were linked with Ozotto’s, and laid dormant on the Lookout somewhere until another powerful surge in demonic energy allowed it to regain some strength. Hiding in the Pendulum Room to avoid detection... though that still may be our greatest advantage over it. If we can keep it from gaining more power, we can trap it completely and seal it away or vanquish it for good.”

“Well, where should we start?” Minotia asks. “Gohan just beat that Ozotto guy.”

“There are four left. Aza, Super 13, Mira and Broly, and Dr. Raichi and Hatchiyak.”

“Let’s get Aza’s plot out of the way first.” you tell Trip. “I’ve still got a few memories of it, personally, so I should know what to do.”

“Very well.” She heads to nods. “Best of luck.”

“One down, four to go!” Minotia cheers. “Ah, this is so exciting!”

“Easy there. We can’t let this go to our heads.” Tapion warns.

You’re teleported away in a flash of light, all of you appearing on a tower high above the clouds, on a floating fortress... with the massive form of Shenron looming over you all. Zarid seems awestruck by it, his mouth agape. The Eternal Dragon’s eyes flash red.

“IT HAS BEEN DONE. FAIRWELL.”

And he turns into light, the Dragon Balls spreading out into different directions. You try to sense around to where Aza and his cronies are. Feeling a spike in someone’s Ki, your eyes lock on to the source.

“...OH BULLSHIT.”

“PEPPA SMAAAAAASH!”

You see your sister, so much younger, ram her fist into a blonde man’s face and knock him into the fortress after he collides with a pink-haired woman. Chuu Lee limps over to her, healing her wounds. Peppa then faints, tired out from almost tapping into her Super Saiyan strength, as a couple more Makyans approach. Heh, you see you and Pantea knock them down. “Okay, Aza’s this purple little imp man, he’ll be among the strongest in the area.” Sensing around, you set your sights on a sinister presence. You see Chuu Lee heading in deeper, now that her wounds are healed up.

“Gohan, over there!” Tapion points out... and you see something fall down from the skies. A massive, shadowy form falls into the fortress. Right where you sense one of the strongest of the villains in there.

“Okay guys, let’s move!” You all start rushing through, heading towards where you saw the thing fall. Inside the fortress, you see Chuu Lee direct your younger self and Pantea to get somewhere safe, Krillin teleporting in as well.

“You’re a real thorn in our sides, Chuu Lee.” the pink-haired girl grumbles, brushing herself off. “And that brat messed up my hair!”

“Though your weakness for your friends seems to be easily exploitable.” the long-haired blonde man adds.

“Don’t think that trick will work again.” Chuu Lee readies herself.

“Rather confident, Chuu Lee. I can see why Maple considers you a Master of the Turtle School now.” a third figure praises. Aza. “I must warn you though, there is a backup plan we had set to go just in case something like this happens.” The dragon on his shoulder laughs... as the whole fortress begins to move.

“There’s Aza. We need to get ‘em down, but everyone keep your eyes open. In fact...” You glance around as the fortress continues to shake. “Tapion, can you find out where the source of this is? Also, Minotia, think your ocarina and barrier will be able to keep up a barrier against folks like him?” you point to Aza.

“Hah, you better believe it.” the boy affirms.

“Okay, plan set? Let’s do this!”

Chuu Lee clenches her fists. “Aza, what have you done?!”

“You prevented us from gaining the Dragon Balls. This is our-”

“WAS your backup plan!” you yell out as you leap down, letting out a Kiai that knocks away the other two, but misses Aza, who’s able to to leap out of the way of your surprise attack.

“Who the hell is this?!” the blonde man yell out.

“Looks like a genderflipped Maple.” the woman guesses. “Kinda cute, for a punk kid.”

You blink. Um. What?

“He’s a fool if he thinks he can stop us. Interesting that you avoided the Black Water Mist.” He brings his fist back. “Let’s get you to spill the beans, boy. KAGERYUKEN!”

Minotia leaps in front of you and brings up his barrier, playing his ocarina, as the attack bounces off him harmlessly. And behind him, Zarid lets out a blast of energy into the floor that causes it to fracture and crack underneath the trio, and with the movement of the fortress, it breaks apart, forcing them into the air.

Taking advantage of your distraction, Chuu Lee leaps after the man and woman, an elbow strike to the gut and a quick spin and kick to the back sending the man down into the hole Zarid made, followed by her using the Shotenken to uppercut the woman into ceiling. You meanwhile dash around Aza and knee him in the back of the head, grabbing him and slamming him into the ground.

You and Chuu Lee get your distance to make sure you’re both aware of where all your foes are as... you feel part of the fortress accelerate, unevenly. Further, the bodies of Aza and the woman seem to... “glitch” for lack of a better term, and get slightly blurry.

And there seems to be some green thing appearing near the woman.

“Ohhh no you don’t!” you call out, bolting over to the woman, knocking the green thing aside.

“Oof... that was... different...” the woman groans as she rubs her head, looking over at the thing you kicked away. It... looks like some kind of grub or worm, with a large shell around it. “...Now how the hell did that come back?” the lady questions.

Aza meanwhile tries to attack you again, Minotia trying to defend you but getting knocked aside. Chuu Lee however blasts towards him, yelling out, “KAIO-KEN TIMES FIVE!” and knocks Aza through a wall.

The woman takes a defensive stance as she faces you again. “Hey, you saved my good looks, boyo. Thanks for that. Shame you’re a bit of a punk.”

“I’m a little young for you.” you remark, unamused.

“Yeah well-” She stops, and squints at you. “...wait a second.”

‘Um. Gohan. We may have a problem here.’ Tapion contacts you.

‘What kind of problem?’

‘The whole fortress... it’s been merged with some kind of creature, substantially larger than even Hirudegarn was. There should be a core in here somewhere, but every time I think I’ve tracked it down, it’s as if it moves out of my reach. I’m... also feeling something else approaching me. I may have to fight another one off.’

The lady tries to get the jump on you, unleashing a barrage of kicks she follows up with an elbow strike aimed for your head that you have to put substantially more effort into avoiding than you expect, but it’s still enough that you’re able to overpower her. You knock her away with a palm strike, forcing her through a wall. “Sorry. You’re not my type. More into girls with glasses.”

Chuu Lee does a double take as she hears that, but is able to keep her focus on Aza, dodging a trio of shadowy dragons that he attacks her with and bringing her hands back. “SHINKUUUU... KAMEHAMEHAAAA!”

Aza’s sucked into the blast, and it bores him through the fortress, blasting him outside, Chuu Lee leaving a massive hole once the blast dissipates. Krillin, Piccolo... and Kami teleport in. You smile at her and give her a thumb’s up. “We’ll help stop this thing from the inside, you guys stop Aza! Minotia, Zarid, with me!”

“Wait, who’s...?” Krillin tries to ask, but you’re gone before he can finish. You head in after Tapion, finding him facing off with the blonde man from before... who’s gained a dark, sinister aura, his body glitching oddly, like Aza’s and the woman’s did before. At the same time, you see a massive, pulsing... organ of some sort, moving like a beating heart, but looking nothing like it... especially since it has a massive, eye-like structure staring down at you. Egh, it just blinked!

“Gohan! It’s over there!” Tapion calls out, slashing at something that looks like dad’s Dragon Fist, only more thoroughly controlled and not quite as strong. The man... no, the shadowy force controlling the man, tries to advance, slowly but surely pushing Tapion back.

“Got it! Minotia, Zarid, let’s do this!” You run past them, Zarid tackling the man from behind and letting Tapion get a clear strike in, pommel of his sword smashing into the man’s face. He misses a fatal swing with his blade, but Minotia’s able to make up for it by forming a sphere of Ki above his head and dunking it down at their foe right as Zarid leaps off, smashing him through the floor.

The pulsing core of the fortress lets out a beam of crimson energy towards you and Tapion, with you dodging it but Tapion having to block it with his sword, some of it getting through and hitting him. He powers through, though, and the two of you rush at the monsterous eye, swords drawn, and plunge them both into it. A demonic wail shrieks out, the form of the pulsing creature withering away... and finally, the simulation ends.

“Hooooh.” Zarid exhales, falling back. “T-two down, right?”

“Two down!” Minotia affirms, offering a hand to help him up.

“Heh, man, I’m surprised with all you guys have had to go through.” Zarid comments, getting to his feet.

“Thanks for helping out. This really isn’t your fight, but you’re willing to do so much. I really appreciate it, Zarid. And Minotia, Tapion, thank you both too.”

“It is the least we can do to repay the kindness we were shown.”

Zarid gives you a thumb’s up. “And hey, what are friends for, if not busting some demons together?”

I think Ghost Dad and Uncle Hatch will be big for the group, but for Gohan especially.

13, will be good for the other three to challenge themselves while we fight Kougeki with Piccolo.

For Broly and Mira, fighting them both will be a test for everyone equally. Kougeki is here too but he's more for the other three at that point.

“Whichever you pick, I’ll be taking on another by myself.” Piccolo’s voice calls to you all. “Or you could split up and we can get all of these over with quickly.”

“I would recommend against that, especially since these are going to be rather difficult challenges for all of you.” Trip adds. “I’ve sent Yosei to get a few Senzu just in case.”

Well, this’ll help things along. “In that case...”
