>Welcome back to a Song of Sand and Steel, the Game of Thrones narrative game. Our House is House Blacksand, a new house in the Dornish Marches, who are much despised by their neighbours. Our Lady is Lissara Blacksand, a beautiful femme fatale, who is a dab hand with a spear. Currently, we are writing a letter to Ser Gerold Dayne, and preparing to make money by establishing a trade route with the Arbor and House Fowler.

>This is a quest using the Green Ronin A Song of Ice and Fire RPG system.

Character sheet in the next post.

A quick summary of the story so far.

Lissara is the daughter of a House Baratheon man-at-arms, who killed Ser Jonothor Darry, a member of Aery's Kingsguard at the Battle of the Trident. After his death by poison, Lissara swore fealty to House Martell at Sunspear. Thanks to a failed assassination attempt, Oberyn Martell felt guilty enough to set up a scheme by which Ser Nestar Wyl, an exiled scion of House Wyl swore fealty to you, and then you took over House Wyl in a highly disruptive war. You attended a tournament at Storms End, and now are preparing ways to make wealth, as well as dealing with a tournament invitation from Gerold Dayne, the cold-hearted and cruel cousin of Ser Arthur Dayne, the former Sword of the Morning. Who also happens to be one of your best allies.

You lean over Carth's shoulder, and begin to dictate, as he writes onto the sheet of paper.

"Ser Gerold, I would like to start by thanking you properly for your valliant defeat of Ser Darry, without which would have lead to a long and drawn out seige. House Blacksand owes you it's thanks, and will not forget the actions you have commited in our favour. We hope that your time since we last met has been pleasant, and fulfilling, and that you have suceeded at what you have put your hand to.

I do regret to say that I and my Husband will not be attending this tournament at Starfall you are arranging, since we have just returned from travelling in the Storm Lands, and would prefer to spend some time attending to the state of our house. However, representing us will be Ser Ascar, a fine and dutiful knight of exceptional skill, who we have every confidance will carry himself well in the tournament. We wish you all the best, and look forward to a time when we may work together again."

Carth dots the final i, and sits back, a satisfied look on his face, before sprikling some powdered bone upon the sheet, and blowing it clear.

"That should do it. Nice and polite, warm, refering to his direct actions, all in all, a good letter. Now, we'll need to travel to Skyreach, to negotiate and plan out this route, but that can wait a while. We'll give this letter to Jelissa, and her and Ser Ascar can deliver it."

The road to Starfall has been a long one, along the Vulture Road, and then down the Princes Pass. Ser Ascar and the cavalry who are accompanying you have travelled without complaint, but you are far from a skilled rider. However, the dust and aches are nothing compared to how annoyingly chivalrous Ser Ascar has been. Every time you made camp on the road, he ensured your tent was isolated from the main group, protected and hard to approach. When you slept in inns, he paid from his own pocket for you to have a private room, and refused every invitation you gave him to share the room, sleeping instead in the common room. However, hopefully upon arriving at Starfall, and being assigned a small number of rooms, you'll be able to pin him down, figuratively, into being at least somewhat near you. It's hard to carry out a seduction when the target of your affections has refused to come even close you for the entire time you haven't had direct duties.

Ahead of you, Starfall rises high into the sky, tall white walls and clear windows. Ser Ascar spurs his horse forward, and raises a gauntleted hand towards the gate guard, his blonde, shoulder length hair shining in the afternoon sun, his broad shoulders and chest sihloutted against the walls of Starfall. He calls out in a voice ringing clear and clean like a great bell of a sept.

"Hail Starfall! We have come to attend the tournament, from House Blacksand!"

Clearly caught out by the appearance of such a knight, the gate guard pauses before speaking back.

"Greetings! Who comes to the gates of Starfall!"

"Jelissa Jordayne, Ser Ascar Bole, and other retainers of House Blacksand!" Ser Ascar calls back, his humility placing you first, which would cause you to blush if you weren't already flushed from from the ride.

The gate guard waves you onward, and directs you to a set of temporary stables that have been erected outside the walls, near the green tourney grounds on the banks of the Torrentine. You have been in Starfall once before, when you were younger. That was when Ashara Dayne, the beauty of Starfall, still lived, and when Ser Arthur was the Sword of the Morning. You feel for Edric Dayne and his aunt, having to endure the weight of the house alone. Thinking of the family and their situation reminds you of the letter in your saddlebags, and you realise you need to deliver it, sooner rather than later.

"Ser Ascar, the letter Lady and Lord Blacksand gave to us. It must be delivered quickly to Ser Gerold, and I fear I will lack the authority to gain a rapid audience. Will you please accompany me, to make sure it is delievered promptly?"

"Of course, Lady Jelissa. It would be my pleasure."

The two of you head off towards the main keep, your arm resting atop his. Now, how to make use of this moment....

"Tell me, Ser Ascar. What is your opinion of love? Of the courtly dance the singers love to make sound so perfect?"

Ser Ascar shifts slightly, clearly surprised by your choice of conversation. He strides in silence for a few moments, before speaking.

"Love is not something found in courts. Or something found as in the songs, a single glorious vision. It is something that grows, slowly develops over time. To act quickly on such feelings, as the singers desire to do, is lust, and the Maiden and Mother frown on such feelings."

You realise that Ser Ascar will not be inclined to fall for seduction as you were taught it, of the passion and acts of desire. Most likely, any feelings he developed, he would see them as "un-godly" and intentionally supress them. Either way, it's going to be harder than you thought.

Either way, you cannot simply focus upon your own goals. Lady Lissara needs you to be sharp and attentive. As you walk through the courtyard of Starfall, you glance around at the various banners, seeing what you can identify.

7,17,11 vs TN 12 (2 Degrees)

Walking through the courtyard, you see many of the silks of the houses of Dorne, and underneath them, smaller personal arms. Also present are several Reach houses, shields hanging from poles, marking Tarly, Hightower, Oakheart, and Fossoway. However, 2 standards catch your eye. One is the Sun and Spear of House Martell, and the other is the Golden Rose of High Garden, with it repeated below.

8,9,7 vs TN 10

Only two men in all the realm fly the Spear and Sun of House Martell, and Prince Doran doesn't leave Sunspear for tournaments on the far side of the Dornish deserts. That can only mean Oberyn himself is here. And from what you have heard of Mace Tyrell, you doubt he is riding in this tourney. His son, Willas is a touch young for tournaments though, so you don't know why the rose of Highgarden is present. As to the other signs, you don't know the families of Dorne and the Reach enough to know what knights they may have sent.

"A fine spread of knights, Lady Jelissa. I see the lighthouse of Hightower, so Garth Hightower, or Greysteel is most likely is here. The Banner of Tarly is here, but from what I remember of Lord Randyll, he is not one for tourneys. Most likely here in support of his lord. Ser Aerys is skilled indeed, and pious. I would not be surprised if he is here to show his skill."

"And the silk of House Martell means he must face Oberyn if he intends to, Ser Ascar."

You see Ser Ascar swallow slightly, the idea of facing the Red Viper clearly unappealing.

"True, lady Jelissa, but Oberyn is not renowned for his jousting, rather his footwork. But, there will be plenty of time to assess everything. Now, we should find Ser Gerold. I imagine he will be in the main hall, along with his cousin."

The two of you step under the mantle of Starfall, and enter the entrance hall. You can see through to the hall itself, where several knights and retainers are milling around. As you and Ser Ascar step into the main hall, you can see Lady Allyria sitting on the main seat of Starfall, with a baby upon her lap. Off to one side, Ser Gerold is standing, playing with a small dagger.

Ser Ascar and you approach the small dais, and as you do so, Lady Allyria stands, shifting the baby as she does so.

"I do not believe I know you two." she says. As you get close, you realise she is younger than Lady Lissara. The losses of the Rebellion hit House Dayne of Starfall hard, harder than any other house. You curtsey, and Ser Ascar bows.

"I am Ser Ascar Bole, Lady Allyria. Sworn to House Blacksand. This is Lady Jelissa, here to support me, and represent Lady Lissara Blacksand beyond the tourney field."

Internally wincing slightly at the unsubtle way Ser Ascar introduced you, you nevertheless straighten up, and step forward.

"Lady Allyria, Dorne weeps for your family. My uncle, Lord Trebor, always said that Dorne was safe by virtue of House Dayne. He spent many a night praying in the sept after the fall of Rhaegar."

Allyria matches your gaze with a cool stare.

"Edric is healthy, and will remain so. Our cousin, despite his new monniker, will not see our name fade. I thank you, Lady Jelissa for your considered words. Though my brothers recent death has hurt us greatly, I am sure he would not seek us to be morose."

I apologise people, my internet went down Friday evening, and they sent out a repairman Monday evening. As such, I'll be running slowly all this week to catch up.

>Leave and Speak to Ser Gerold

Curtseying and stepping back, you turn and step towards Ser Gerold. His eyes catch yours, and he narrows his eyes, drawing himself up from his slouch, and rolling his neck slightly. He watches you like a predatory bird as you approach, before flicking the strand of dark hair from his eyes, and smiling thinly.

"Lady, I believe I saw you at Shadowpeak, no? Am I to assume that this means that the delightful Lady Lissara will not be attending this little tourney?"

"Alas, Ser Gerold, no." Ser Ascar cuts in, stepping up beside you. "Her Ladyship only recently returned from traveling the Stormlands, and as such felt a desire to spend some time at her home, and not on the road."

"Gods, why would anyone want to spend time at home voluntarily?" Gerold Dayne responds. "Everything the same and boring, nothing new and exciting.."
