“Continue your preparations squad, move to the positions outlined earlier. The Armory holds as our last line and we’ll meet there if things south. With their numbers unknown, we’re likely to be boarded. Far too risky for us to do so. Try to keep them off us as long as we can, build barriers with the furniture. Keep your melee weapons close.”

You could hear the approaching whistle of the train as it barreled down the landscape behind you. The track running parallel to yours was now only a few feet away, scenery whipping past as muted grey and brown. Gaining quickly on your own war engine was the stained and battered shape of the British captured train, ad-hoc welded armor covering the vehicle over what surely were various holes from cannonade and gunfire that the stolen train had endured. There was no telling how long EXCAL had been marauding with the stolen engine, but by their demands surely they had done this before and with great success.

Otto perked up at your words, his stoic expression doing little to hide his smile at the prospect of combat. Gertrude’s face was hidden behind the blackened mask, her expression impossible to guess though by her posture surely she was excited as well.

“I’ll keep them from moving into the medical bay. Though I can’t promise one of the cars doesn’t get toasted black.”

Her flamer would be a great boon, and the loss of an interior would be a small price for such a weapon being used. Hauptmann Edward had ideas of his own, stripping his greatcoat to reveal a stained uniform tee shirt tucked into his pants.

“Let me board them Jäger. When they come over to our train I’ll leap to theirs. I doubt they expect to fight a Wolfstruppen in close combat.”

It’d be risky, and EXCAL is likely meant to fight creatures such as Edward.

[2] Keep him on the train
I don’t know which option is better but him not being isolated behind enemy lines means we can support him and vice versa. At the very least we can utilize the distraction a werewolf would cause to kill the enemy boarders.

Still tied lads, slow tonight.
>>
>>3496926
Unfortunately most nights are slow nights. Qst is just kinda dead now compared to when /tg/ and qst were together. Or even a couple years ago.
>>
>>3496944
It seems to have dropped a lot in activity even from a month back. Though I'm sure most of my regulars are busy/think I died.
>>
Dear god, I guess I'll just let this sit and watch it all night. How are you guys doing?
>>
>>3496978
S'me again. I like to tie votes because I was warned earlier when posting in dead quests. Don't worry, it's not personal, I do this with all the quests.
>>
>>3496985
I'm not worried about it. The regulars will filter in again as per usual.

In the meantime while we wait, why not check the archives, see if you like it!

SO BE IT EDWARD, MAY YOU'RE CLAWS BE SHARP.

Oh fugg sorry man. First thanks for breaking the tie, second things are going. Business bogged down in finances but I'm proposing on Tuesday so I got that going for me. “See what you can do when they jump over Edward. Try to take out their engine and keep that damnable train off our ass. If we can keep the assault unit on our side of the tracks they will lose the battle by attrition at the very least.”

Edward nodded, grinning at this approval of his wish.

“Also, keep the Wulf a surprise until you need it. Very well might tip the scales at the last moment.”
With orders given, the rest of your unit spreads to their positions. Nixie stands at your side, shaking slightly from the growing rush of adrenaline that precedes combat. The two of you make your way through the train as hastily as possible, finding your selves at the rearmost car and door to the opposite engine. The British had gained substantially through your preparations, only meters behind you now from the car you were in. Your next closest squad mate was Klaus, two cars forward. Following that was Otto who was surely all too ready for the chance at an up close brawl like could be expected. Siegfried was in the armory, ready to put his shotgun to use in an enclosed space as well as only he could. Though Gertrude would likely burn her car to ashes if given the chance she could at least stop them from reaching the medical bay, and Sauer.

Edward was surely preparing to board, whether from car to car or from the roof. That left you and Nixie, tossing furniture about the officer’s car in an effort to make some form of cover for the engagement. A wooden table wouldn’t stop a bullet but hopefully it could slow it down a bit. Wild fire raked the side of the train as the British finally opened up, their front engine now parallel with the rear one. Already you could hear the slamming of hooks and ropes, followed by boots as the first men of the EXCAL detachment made their way onto your train.

Nixie was at the far end of the car, putting as much distance as she could between her and the door though it could only be no more than forty feet. With your AKG you adopted the midline, weapon braced on the hard oak paneling of the cupboards beside you. For just a moment, the only sound was the rumbling of trains as the world prepared for another engagement among the billions in history, souls fighting for their very existence on a poisoned planet.

The british train had pulled further now, more of the damnable English crossing into the empty car behind you. With a crash the door in front of you and Nixie burst outwards, the thick muzzle of a British light machine gun thrust into the room as the gunner poured fire haphazardly in your direction. Shots took chips out of the wood you hid behind, turning the furniture into tiny metal splinters that peppered your face and drew the first blood of battle.

Unload suppressive fire and have Nixie pull back, When she gets there and we run out of ammo, we pull back while she covers us.

Basic fire and maneuver.
>>
>>3497585
Train cars tend to be made of sturdier stuff than interior furniture so we will have better cover and can focus fire down a fatal funnel.

Also, call for everyone to retreat to the cars behind us. Get Hauptmann back on board. I got a plan...

Yeah I don’t trust this plan. Let’s deal with the ones we have close to us instead of exposing ourselves to gunfire by falling back.

“Hold them here Nixie!”

Your only answer over the chatter of gunfire was the massive boom of the Hexe, the gigantic round whipping past you as the muzzle shattered all the glass around you. The steel core round bored its way through the metal plating on the wall, and with a wet squish you could hear even from where you were dug deep into the British soldier using that portion as cover. You couldn’t see the body, but you could see the bright fan of blood that coated the wall behind where he was now.

“Ah for fuck’s sake! Alexander is down! They’ve got a fucking anti-tank gun!”

The other EXCAL soldier yelled out, surprisingly calm for watching his friend get ripped in half. His ACIR peeked around the door, firing blindly into your train car. Already you could hear the sound of more boots hitting onto the thick flooring of the rear engine. A gauntleted fist gripped the frame of the door, ripping it open and leaving you staring at a massive hulk of armor. Visor down, the EXCAL heavy pushed forward with a claymore in one hand, and some sort of sub machine gun slung under his off hand. Nixie was forced to put her head down as a torrent of fire raked through the train car, the armored figure moving forward slowly, followed by at least four more EXCAL members in light fatigues.

You span out from your cover, raking the enemies ahead of you with full auto fire from your AKG. The unarmored EXCAL hid as quickly as they could, only one of them being so slow as to be riddled with round from your weapon. The armored unit however seemed not to care, rocking back slightly with the impacts of the 9.8mm Imperial ammunition. Gunsmoke tickled your nostrils as you sprinted forward, dropping the AKG to your side on the sling and yanking your shovel out of the pouch.

The armored EXCAL unit laughed loudly, speakers blasting his jubilation out in a head splitting cacophony of sound as he strode forward to meet your challenge. As the ground between you shrunk rapidly you scoured the plating for any sorts of weak points. Under the arms, back of the knee, a very thin gap between the helmet and breastplate at the neck. You had your work cut out for you, and judging by the way the Claymore in his hand shimmered Aibell wouldn’t be much help if you really needed her.

Your thoughts were cut short as the submachine gun underslung on his left hand swung up, chattering at you rapidly as the magazine rotated counterclockwise with great haste. The EXCAL soldier seemed to underestimate your speed, the rounds that would have found their target only biting through your greatcoat and taking splinters out of the wood paneling.

“ ‘Ave him Joe! Cut him in two! We’ll deal with that Fae bitch ba-”

Whichever soldier was speaking you didn’t have time to find before the 14.5mm steel core shattered his upper torso and sent shards of bone and gore spattering over the room.

Your call out to Nixie was cut short by a horizontal swing from the massive sword. Ducking under it, you drive your shovel against the kneecap, hoping to at least catch the edge of the unprotected side. Sparks flew as the sharpened blade bit down against the metal before sliding off to the side and driving your weapon into the wood floor boards. Aibell saved you once again, yanking your weapon back with inhuman strength to put it between yourself and the massive iron boot that would have surely crushed your skull. Even with the Banshee’s help you ended up rolling backwards from the impact, your bones vibrating from the strike. The claymore loomed over your head, for a death blow, only for the man to be sent staggering with a blinding flash as the a round from Nixie’s Hexe impacted his breastplate and disintegrated.

If you were going to make an opening for her it’d need to be in a soft spot, the armor far too thick and sloped for even the anti-tank gun to stand a chance of penetrating it frontally. A bayonet entered your vision from the left, one of the other British troops intent on ending you while your attention was on the armored figure. Aibell took the shovel from your hand, the horrific visage of the Banshee forming before you and leaving blackened stains where her feet touched on the wood. EXCAL seemed to be taken aback by this new horror fighting beside you, giving you only a moment to draw the boot knife into your hand and laid flat along your arm.

“I think mine is a bit bigger Jerry.”

The booming voice of the armoured soldier rattled your brain as he leered down at you, stabbing forwards with the blessed claymore. Deflecting the blade you rolled to the side, stabbing with the bayonet into the soft portion at the back of his knee, eliciting a skull shaking scream amplified by the speaker system linked to the helmet. One armored unit, and three British soldiers. Even with Aibell and Nixie EXCAL would be a hard fight.

Aibell can deal with the others, we don’t want this claymore anywhere near her. Since we got the back of his knee, we dart in, let him counter, and use that as an opportunity to disarm him and get that claymore away from him. Nixie can support either Aibell or us, whichever opportunity presents itself for her. We are faster than this guy, he’s wounded and will try to end us quickly, and overload a strike. We use that to our advantage.

You twisted the bayonet deep, feeling a pop as you separated his kneecap forcefully. Thick crimson blood spilled forth, wetting the cold steel shine of your bayonet with a slight spray as you yanked it free. Despite the crippling wound the exoskeleton of armor made up for the lack of mobility, servos whirring as the armor took the weight off the wounded leg allowing the EXCAL heavy to stand again.

Ducking under a horizontal slash you noticed the pain breathing shift to a quickened pant, perhaps some sort of adrenal injection or cocktail of combat stims.

“Stay still you wiley bastard and let me fucking cleave you.”

You barely reacted to the next swing, the shaking of your bayonet stopping the increased speed and power of the claymore. A war of attrition you would surely lose.

What did you do?
>>
>>3506097

In some finesse of martial skill the pommel of the sword crashed into your shoulder, surely intent on caving in your chest cavity had it not been for Aibell physically kicking you to the side as she danced with the other British. The loss of her souls had very clearly weakened her, forcing her to fight as no more than a very very talented mortal. Rapid clangs of steel on steel filled the room as Aibell managed to fend off two of the EXCAL units in close combat. The third raised his rifle, seemingly torn on which target to pick between the two of you. Nixie however had other ideas, the massive CRACK BOOM of the Hexe splitting his arms from his body at the elbow. Screaming in agony the man fell forward, right under the backstepping boot of the armored soldier.

His head caved in with a wet crunch, shards of bone spinning across the floor as grey brain matter and blood flew outwards as if popped from one of the water targets back in the Fume Town. The armored soldier seemed not to care, or likely didn’t notice in the midst of his combat high. Having created slight distance the submachine gun on his arms swung up, forcing you to stare down the barrel in almost slow motion as you watched his trigger finger depress. Something in your pocket burned, the rapid chatter of broken clockwork firing its staccato bursts as time slowed to a crawl. Aibell’s hair swayed from her movements, each strand highlighted by a rainbow of light that seemed to emanate from the very air itself. Your sense heightened, you could hear the chunking machinery as the trigger released the firing pin in the man’s gun, Nixie’s bolt working furiously behind you as she struggled to chamber a round to save your life.

“Uhermacher…”

Moving to the side was all rather simple if you shut out the overwhelming sense that assaulted your adrenaline addled brain. You found your own movements quicksilver in comparison to the slow waltz taking place around you.
