You are Bobby Nikolas and you have POWER OVER THE LOST. You may have not joined made the cut for the Justice League, but you have resolved to make a name for yourself as a detective! You're on the hunt for the Faceless Man, your very first case. You might be lost now, but your certain that you'll find your way soon enough.

POWER LIMITATIONS:
-items must be lost
-items have to be (atm) not in anyone's possession
-items that have no owners (change on the street etc.) can not be "found by you" because they are just free to anyone, they are not lost
-mystical items are going to be a lot harder to "find" due to the fact that even though no one knows where they are, doesn't mean they are lost. However, they're may be a work around to this soon...

Previous thread:>>3459870

RECAP:
You've decided to become a detective and hopefully soon team up with a more experienced, established mentor of sorts. This has lead you to your first case, the hunt for the man with no face, based on leads from the internet. You are currently in the abandoned part of town in Capital Cit, an area that has devolved into a slum. A spicy cesspool of crime and villainy if you will. It's night and the the streets are empty. Save for a five-foot figure that has massacred a small amount of people with a knife that causes them to explode violently. You'd chosen to let the figure pass while waiting to make your next move...

>>3479907
You wait nervously for the figure to pass. Without revealing yourself, you're able to get more details. The mask is that of a rabbit, an abstract rendition of one, but a rabbit nonetheless. You're pretty certain that this is either a well-trained child or a very squat adult. The tight bodysuit doesn't reveal much, being pitch black in a dark alley doesn't help. However, it lets you know one thing, that knife is the only thing that its carrying. You saw no strength or speed feats so you're unsure of its combat prowess or whether or not it is a metahuman or not. The dead bodies do speak volumes though. You have no idea if it is actually a villain or not, this is a bad neighborhood, abandoned in pretty much every sense of the word. Hell, emergency services don't even respond to places like these. This could be a make it or break it moment for you. What is the next course of action?

>trail the figure
>investigate the "bodies" for clues to its nature
>continue the Faceless Man search down the alley
>double back to the warehouse window

The figure has finally left the scene. You want to give chase, but you really don't want end up the equivalent of human baby food. You hoist yourself out of the dumpster and decide that as a detective, you should probably do a little investigating. Crouching, you scurry over to the crime scene and see what there is to find. Looking over the mess, the wind picks up a little. There are some fine details that are MISSING in terms of obtaining a better picture of the situation you must FIND them.

Your powers FINDS all the details. All of them. These people that were murdered here have the same mark, a circle with a sickle-like shape emanating from it. You've seen it before but you can't place it right away. Its in your head somewhere you just have to find it... Then it hits you. This mark is the insignia of the Church of Blood, that cult that began to pick up steam a while ago. Brother Blood, the face of the cult had been in and out of the news for months. Always being accused of something or other, but there was never enough proof. He had lawyers and businesses popping up all over the city and without any proof of wrongdoing even the JLA had their hands tied. Luckily, you don't have the restrictions that they do. Wait, luckily? You may have actually stumbled upon a war between rival cults. Is.. is this even a case? Your powers are in overdrive finding things in your memory you weren't even aware of. The figure, had brown hair cut short, cut straight like a bob. Skin was showing just between the sleeves and boots. Pale white. Not just white, but strangely translucent. The way it walked, it had a tendency to move weight with its hips. Female. Your eyes dart back to the body and the scene replays in your head. Even more details are found. The figure's hands were folded around the knife with the left index in front. Left-handed. You look at the marks again and notices of the 10 or so bodies, one person, the most recently killed had a slight difference in their branding. Two marks near the bottom of the sickle opposed to the three found on the others. Your mind runs through the possibilities and finds the most likely reason. Same cult, different group. The last guy killed walked in on the killer as she finished off the previous group. Black Hand? That's what she said right? Another lead, perhaps they're the rival cult. You've never even heard of them but you need to look into it at some point. You are lost at what to do next, but your powers help you FIND the right path, a couple in fact. A red arrow extends from your feet as you consider the Faceless Man. A group of white footprints lead to the scene of the crime, the victims' no doubt, they probably lead back to their hideout. Finally, red footprints wrap around the nearby corner and past the dumpster. You can find the figure or where she came from.

>follow the footprints to the victims' point of origin
>follow the killer's prints to their previous location
>follow the killer's print's to its next location
>follow the red arrow
>check your cell for missed calls/messages

It's dangerous. Too dangerous to take whatever this shit maybe on all by yourself. You decide the best course of action is to continue on your first case. Hopefully that will be less likely to get you killed. You follow the red arrow, winding up and down alleyways cautiously. Your heart stops when you see that the red arrow and the red footprints overlap. Just your fucking luck. You continue, your chest tightening with each step, you can feel eyes on you, you can hear the knife moving through the air. The footprints take a hard deviation from the path and you break out into a full sprint. Not your shining moment, but you couldn't think of a better choice. The arrow ends. Pointing right at a man in a blue trenchcoat and hat. He must be the next clue. The man is pacing furiously back and forth in front of a building. A door with no handle right to the left of him. He's probably about 6-ft and built pretty broadly. He's muttering something and occasionally he's hitting the wall hard. Actually... it looks like he's talking to someone. Not like through a headset but actually talking to someone. He's swatting and aiming as he swings and making somewhat of a spectacle. You tense as he turns, you can see his profile clearly. Or rather what little features it shows. He doesn't have a face...
How do you play this?

This guy seems... unstable. Actually what the heck were you expecting? You went to find some faceless guy and do what? This is exactly what you came to find. Wait maybe he isn't crazy, maybe he just can't see? He doesn't have eyes after all. No, that's super fucking stupid. In fact if that were the case, he couldn't breathe either. You pace around the area keeping an eye on him still flailing about. You find a good way to split if things get too harry hairy and a rusty bikechain. You wrench out a piece of rebar from an exposed wall and wrap a newspaper around the end to serve as a grip. Pleased with yourself you turn back to the faceless man, who has stopped moving. He seems to be listening, like someone is whispering in his ear. His head turns slowly... he's looking directly at you.

You're fast and quiet but he's a step ahead of you. He gives you a hard uppercut, following up with a kick. His foot crushes your hand with the bike chain against the wall, but you refuse to drop it. You duck, attempting to sweep his leg. Faceless jumps and attempts to stomp on your leg as he comes back down. He misses, but you're now off balance. Faceless delivers a painful haymaker dead center of your chest. You recover and assess the situation.

Just fuck it, you know? I know it's the Question but the REAL QUESTION is how paranoid can we get of one another?

He doesn't find anything on us aside that we failed the JLA exam.

We know he's the Question and works for the JLA.

He thinks we're somehow connected or worse, a cultist.

We steal his hat when he drops it.

Full blown conspiracy war.

Armageddon.

Two have rolls, meaning they both chose the single option that required a roll, that's how I took it. If you just rolled for some random reason, that's kind of on you.
>You find a good way to split if things get too harry hairy and a rusty bikechain
You found a way to leave in case things go south. Exploring an area may lead to finding things, which surprise surprise, it did. You're acting like I forced you to use it, which I didn't. You act like you can't run, talk, or continue to fight.
>>
>>3497940
Oh hey, let me pick up something I could use as a weapon in front of this very paranoid man.

>Inb4 we use our power to find a lost land mine and blow ourselves up cause how our powers work is solely up to the QM
>>
>You wrench out a piece of rebar from an exposed wall and wrap a newspaper around the end to serve as a grip.

Or we could've 'found' an escape route, cause we have video game waypoint powers now. Again, this is fucking stupid.
>>
>>3498357
>>3498365
You seem to really hate this quest or me so maybe you should go? Again you rolled and i followed based upon your actions. And you continue to bitch about a weapon that you was already discarded. You found an escape route. If you read through the quest, I already said that the powers would change just due to the fact that it has become a different type of story.
>bringing up the mine because he realized that it's his own fault for the lay of the land getting chosen
I'm not sure why I'm holding up the quest for you so i won't anymore.

You need to get the fuck out of here and you need to do it right now. You go in for a feint and take off full sprint. Faceless pauses for a second, before giving chase. He's pretty damn quick, nearly catching up to you, but you summon the rebar from before and throw it. Spinning hard and fast, it hits his right shin and plants partially in the ground causing him to tumble and hit the ground hard. He curses and points at you, shouting "Dammit Brand, make yourself fucking useful."

You don't slow, but you look around not finding anyone in your immediate vicinity. You take off down the escape route you found earlier and duck into a building with a partially collapsed wall. It's an old bowling alley, mirrors line the walls and old equipment litter the floor. This place has a motif that screams 80s and you can pretty much guess why this place went under. You wander around and find a set of stairs, that you cautiously make your way up. Opening the door at the top of the steps you find a rather small, though charming apartment. It's surprisingly clean, compared to the downstairs but you check each room to ensure that its secure. You move the large sofa in the living room in front of the door and make a pretty effective barricade. You lay down and realize that you're fucking exhausted.

>check phone for messages
>try to find some food in the kitchen and sleep

The phone faintly illuminates the room, your eyes strain slightly and you see that you have nine missed calls from home. Oh yeah, you didn't even go home after the JLA expo... Guess you got a little excited, finding a new potential career and all. You've really got to keep better track of these things. A couple messages from mom and one from dad, all wondering what you are up to. Dad actually wants to see if you want to leave town with him to relax for a while. Mom is a pocket teleporter and dad can steal qualities. Both pursued careers in both villainy and heroism before settling on normal lives. You have an older brother but you don't want to think about him right now. You put the phone down and bring your hand to your face and reflect on the day. You haven't slept or anything in the last day and you honestly have never felt more alive. You hop up and head to the bathroom to rinse your face and are some reason surprised by nothing coming out of the faucet. You look terrible, your dreads are soaked and your clothes are dirty. You freeze as you notice a man behind you, he's pale, and wearing some kind of strange, high-collared, red onesie. A single "D" centered on his chest. He's smiling, but he is giving off an eerie aura. You turn, seeing nothing and then look back into the mirror just in time to see him shrug.

You stand still waiting for him to do something. Anything really. He cocks his head to the side and you surmise that he means no harm. "Uh hey, sorry for crashing your pad, man. I didn't mean any disrespect, this is just the first place that I found after barely escaping a, I shit you not, a faceless lunatic."

The ghost starts saying something but you can't hear anything. He sees your face scrunch up and understands immediately. He puts his palms toward and moves them slightly, as if pushing. He mouths the word relax. You do your best not to immediately tense up. The ghost enters your body and half of your body goes numb. In the mirror, your left half of your face has become chalky and your eye a milky white. Your throat seizes and you begin to speak despite yourself.

"Okay first off, relax buddy. This is a hell of an experience so just keep calm so we can talk." he pauses, "HELL. Get it?"

You won't even dignify that with a response. You half shrug, literally, and he half shakes your head, "Anyways.. I know all about it. I WAS there after all."

"Who are you?" you ask tired of playing these games. You thought he might have been the original tenant of this apartment, but this guy seems to have been watching you this whole time from somewhere. Seeing how he's pretty fucking invisible, you don't beat yourself up too badly over not noticing sooner. He's jokey and that only makes you feel more like he's hiding something from you.

"Well, I was Boston Brand at some point in my life." He pauses as if he expects you to know who that is. You don't and you have no inclination to google it. He rolls his eyes and continues, "BUT, obviously that's long over. Just call me Deadman. Hero of the darkness and otherworlds and absolutely no credit."

The last part came a little spitefully. You feel a little sorry but not sorry enough, you go to smack your forehead and find that you can't... Your eyes dart up to the mirror and you see the reason. He's completely taken over and smiling.

"Well kid, I'm gonna take you for a little ride. It's two in the morning and you are in Crown-Hicks, which means you're a culter, a JLA snoop, or someone trying to hunt down Q. He may not like me and I may be annoying and a bit of a reckless ass but I'm not the type of guy who will let his friends get hurt. You've already seen our base and I know for a fact that you were just about to run and tell your bosses where we're holed up. Don't you worry though, we'll get you back to Q and work you over real nice. If there is anything left of you by the time we're finished, you are more than welcome to try to crawl your way back to whatever hole you crawled out of."

With that he stretches, really hamming it up to hit home the fact that he's completely in control of you. Your mind races as to what you can do, and you desperately hope that he doesn't find out that you have powers or this could end up with a heavy death toll. He fishes through your pockets and finds your wallet and phone. He leafs through it briefly and puts it back finding nothing of note. He unlocks your phone easily with your fingerprint and checks your messages and recent calls to make sure that no one was on their way before snapping it in half and dropping either pieces to the side.

He throws the couch to the side with ease and takes off down the steps. He walks with purpose and you can feel the intensity you sensed behind the jokes when you first met. He skips, hops, and even hums as he takes his time heading back to the faceless man's, "Q"'s, hideout. Needless to say things are looking fairly fucked. You're panicked and he doesn't seem to be able to read your mind or hear you in anyway and this might be for the best. You can feel a slight catch in your throat and your right arm is all pins and needles. You have an idea.

>Scream at the top of your lungs, maybe someone will hear. Maybe the rabbit psycho may come
