The cashier was a rather short Frenchwoman, who wore a dark brown coat and wore a tricolour armband, with a white circle. In the circle, A red, white, and blue axe was sewn in. This was the logo of the French republic's National Populist party. Populists weren't very popular here in Paris, but the Commune's laws guarenteed freedom of expression. However that was certainly due to change if war broke out.
