General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Feraligatr)
Sorbet (Vulpix)
Ghost Pepper (Rotom)

Location: Eelilee Festival grounds

Recently: Herb calmed down Gardevoir, got busy with Hana, and continued into the Contest Battle Tournament, with Gobble vs Primeape

Primeape’s face begins to slowly grow some veins, and his breathing becomes deeper. It bounces just outside of striking range of Gobble.

Your opponent cooly takes a class cloth from his pocket, removes his glasses, and starts wiping. “You brought a fighter to a contest battle.” His deep, professional voice cuts with a silky, cold quality. “He’s not here to look good. He’s he here to fight.”

Gobble keeps his fights up tightly, keeping a steady, unwavering gaze on the dancing Primeape, probling his reflexes and blindspots.

Primeape’s trainer puts his glasses back on. “Primeape got into contests because it’s more of a dance, you see. Bringing out his fighting spirit makes him forget his routines.”

That's not to say he can't Punch and kick with the best of them, but I believe that he wants to experience new things more. “Don’t listen to him Gobble. I believe in you.” You then turn your attention to the opposing trainer. "Gobble here isn't necessarily in here to fight either, to be honest. He's in it for fun, and his Focus is on participating. That's not to say he can't Punch and kick with the best of them, but I believe that he wants to experience new things more. He might be able to fight, but he can't really be sorted into such a small category."

Gobble risks a half second glance back to you. Then his one fist very slowly and carefully shifts, and his posture subtly changes. He’s gathering his focus.

“Is that so?” His whole demeanor changes. “Well, I don’t believe you!” Mad, wide, strained eyes stare passed you as he screams. “Close Combat!”

You see Gobble ready to match it with his Focus Punch!

“FOCUS PUNCH! NOW!” You shout, knowing it’s already ready.

Primeape was expecting to catch Gobble off guard. Maybe Gobble would have a quick and weak move he might use to mitigate this attack. But not something like this. A focused, heavy fist attack coming to meet him.

The two fighters engage in the middle, with Gobble bringing his slow, wide fist around while at the same time avoiding the flurry of small blows coming from Primeape. But Close Combat ends with a strong finishing strike at the end, and that meets Gobble’s fist dead on. An explosion of power forces Gobble back a few inches and Primeape back a few feet.

The crowd goes wild! You were hoping to take your opponent down to the floor with that move, but you’re sure he was planning on Close Combat to finish or at least strongly hurt Gobble.

Gobble has a tiny, almost imperceptible mark on his face from where Primeape’s attack just barely grazed him.

Primeape rolls his wrist, testing it’s motion and pain. That concern just turns to more anger though. His eyes go wider and his veins pop out even more.

“Primeape’s fighting style is like an art! We’ll show that fighter what grace and fury looks like! Primeape, Focus Energy!”

The crowd cheers and Primeape slowly starts a glow and steam. You’ve never seen anyone else steam when doing that move.

Use small, weak versions of Surf that we don't put too much effort into to reposition and keep Gobble out of range. Primeapes are known to be berserkers, and even if that isn't true here, a Primeape chasing after a Munchlax that smoothly dodges out of the way doesn't give our opponents a chance to disprove that to the judges.

“Gobble! You’ve got grace too! Surf around and stay out of range!”

Gobble nods, and starts to run forward. After a few steps, water starts being kicked up below his feet. It grows in power with each step, until he’s running up jets of water to get around. Gobble runs over and passed Primeape, soaking him with small weak hits as he does so. It's not much for damage, but it looked annoying as heck.

There’s laughter from the crowd as the serious Primeape gets soaked after pumping itself up with Focus Energy. It wipes the wet fur out of it’s eyes and chases after Gobble with an angry grunt.

Gobble’s taken a decisive lead on points, but you have to keep in mind that a knocked out pokemon has no points. He gets a respectable amount of distance with Surf, but Primeape is slowly gaining on him. Gobble surfs several feet up in the air and flies across the arena, and Primeape is on the ground closing that gap and getting ready to do something once it does.
>Keep using Surf, switch directions and zig zag around so he can’t catch you

Get some height first by using Surf, so that we gain vertical height by going against a curved/flat surface that happens to be within the arena.
The image I'm picturing in my head is the momentum of Gobble surfing off of the wave created when the water hits the wall acting in such a way that he doesn't bother to try and land in the water the way he would if he continued to surf, instead just going straight up, and straight down.

“Use Body Slam!” You tell your little guy. He’s been fighting a lot depending on his strong iron will, but you remember when you first met. He was dancing and being a real showman. While he usually keeps that away during serious fights, it’s still something that comes natural to him, and a side of him you want to encourage.

Gobble uses what’s left of Surf against the judges desk, changing the angle of thrust and his trajectory so he flies almost directly upward in a slight arc. Papers and a hat fly off in his wake, but he looks pretty cool doing it, so you hope they don't mind too much.

He soars into the air, striking a graceful Body Slam pose from where he reaches the zenith of his height.

“Dodge! And Seismic Toss his head into the dirt!”

The crowd gasps at that proclamation. Primeape barely gets itself out of the way of the Body Slam, then grabs Gobble and does a competent, if fairly impressive, Seismic Toss. Gobble slams into the ground, but manages to keep his head out of the ground or getting stuck in any way.

Gobble’s lost his lead in terms of points, and that was a strong attack. But Gobble, with the decent amount of damage he’s racked up over this battle, gets right back up. Then, a second later, his fists rise up again too.

Primeape begins circling around Gobble slowly. He gets a little cocky and throws a few light, showy jabs into the air, taking his time in getting closer.

“It’s getting to be time to end this match in a way our crowd deserves.” Your opponent says, looking excited. The cool professional man in a suit has been replaced by someone with intense, joyful eyes. “What do you say? Let’s throw everything we have into this next exchange.”

>Break all the tension by using Rest. The crowd will either love it or hate it

“Charge him!” The trainer shouts.

“Gobble! Metronome!”

You can feel the energy from Gobble. Metronome never lets him down when he needs it. He wags his fingers back and forth, summoning up a mystery move. Then, as if hit by a possessing inspiration, suddenly starts performing the move. He cups his hands together and, and gathers together a deep, brown energy into a ball. He grins back and winks at an impressed Sorbet. He’s got this!

“Aura Sphere!” Someone from the crowd guesses a shout.

“No! Focus Blast!” An older commenter corrects.

Primeape rushes at Gobble with incredible speed! You’re worried he won’t get it off in time. But Gobble is faster than your average Munchlax! Right now at the last second, he fires the huge ball of energy!

“Gobble! He’s going to Low Kick!” Hana shouts. You’re shocked at hearing her voice pierce through, but it does.

“Low Kick!” The trainer shouts. She was right!

Primeape drops out of the way while still flying forward. His leg comes out in a spin and takes Gobble out at the legs, causing him to hit the ground with such weight and power that it shakes your bones even from where you’re standing.

“Gobble!” You shout.

The small crowd is already energized and yelling so loud that your voice is completely drowned out. You can see the points drop off to nothing for your side at the judge’s table. Even without being able to hear the announcement, you see them make the call and declare Primeape as the winner.

You rush over to Gobble. He’s conscious, but shocked and very much unable to fight.

Your pokemon and the girls, minus Abigail, come over.

Dice growls in the direction of Primeape, but the monkey pokemon seems much calmer and cooler, and just shrugs it off and turns his back.

Sorbet looks sympathetic, but not overly impressed with Gobble.

Belladonna looks upset. Not at Gobble in particular, but at the fact that your team got this far and no further. She keeps it to herself and pouts silently.

Gobble looks uncomfortable at all the attention. Even if he could get up right now, he might still just lay there.

>Warn Dice not to do anything foolish, it was just a match

>>3484775
It seems like this was mostly Herb's fault. The other battles played into the half-contest half-battle theme, but it feels like this round, with Gobble, it was mostly treated like a normal fight.
I don't know if it would have changed anything, but that's how it seems, to me.
>>
>>3484931
yeah, I was sorta hoping we could go with a "cool" vibe for the contest instead of our usual "cute", but it sort of fizzled out at the end there, especially with those rolls.
>>
>>3484940
It's just the universe telling us Herb doesn't get to be Cool. Cute only, forever. Imagine the disaster if Herb had tried for a Tough style.
>>
You look over your pokemon. You don’t mind losing, and you don’t think your pokemon are generally poor losers, but the sudden and crushing defeat for Gobble really took the fluff out of everyone’s pastries. "Hey now everyone, don't worry. It was just an amateur tournament, and in a type of battle we don't really have a lot of experience in. It's impressive we made it as far as we did, and honestly, if this is anyone's fault, it's my own. I should have been more cautious, especially knowing Gobble had the type disadvantage."

You don’t get a lot of reactions beyond just small acknowledging gestures that they hear you. Dice puts his teeth away and turns his attention to Gobble. You do to, and put your energy into healing the little guy. You’ve been good on your energy usage lately, and manage it just fine. He sits there, gives a polite and quick thanks, then continues sitting.

As you rise up to your feet and give him a nice pat on the head, your opponent approaches. “It was a good battle.” He bows.

“It was. Congratulations.” You say to him, and to Gobble, as you return the bow. Then you offer a hand. He shakes it with three quick and surgical shakes, applying the appropriate amount of pressure and time. You turn to Hana. “How did you know he’d use Low Kick?”

“Yes. I’m curious, too.” He adds.

“It was this story about Vance.” She says, shrinking from all the eyes that are turning to her. “Uh, well, one time he had this battle with his sister, and managed to surprise her. Even though he was just some trainer and she became part of the Elite Four. Kat told me the story a lot of times. I just got that feeling during the battle when I saw Primeape coming.”

“Impressive insight. I-...wait. Kat...Elite Four...Are you talking about the Mainlander Champion?”

Hana flinches and looks uncomfortable.

“She is.” You step in, putting a hand on Hana’s shoulder. “I appreciate that it's weird to hear her talking about Kat so casually, but it's really not something any of us would like to make a big deal of. Can you not make a big deal out of it?”

“Oh. Yes. Of course. It must be uncomfortable to hear people talk about someone you know personally in such an abstract way. And all the celebrity gossip. Looking passed you and just wanting to talk about them” He says, understanding.

“T-thanks.” She mutters, looking confused at being so analyzed, but relieved.

“I hope my Primeape wasn’t too harsh with your pokemon.” He says. “I think he was threatened, to be honest. He gets very angry and prideful at anyone that can fight him off like that. I don’t suppose...Herb, would you be willing to battle me again sometime? And Hana, you have great insight. Perhaps we could exchange numbers.”

“Ah, well, my pokedex is in the shop...” Hana says, looking uncomfortable again. She’s tugging at your shirt like she wants to communicate something.

“Yeah! Haha. Let’s go!” Hana says, taking your arm. “Bye!”

“By-” You’re cut off as she carries you away.

She quickly loosens the grip. “Sorry. I just...I see that sort of thing sometimes. I don’t know if he just wants to get close to get an in with my caretakers or not. And...even if he doesn’t, it always gets weird.”

“It’s not weird with us.” Keira says.

“You guys got to know me first. And I still get anxious about what you think of me.”

Laki looks a little hurt. “Really?”

“Well, I mean. Yeah. But it’s cool. It’s a lot less than I worry about it with anyone else.” Hana quickly admits. “By a lot.”

“That’s neurotically sweet.” Laki teases. “But I think you’re wrong to worry about that guy. I think Herb was right to give him his number. He seemed like he was just being a friendly trainer. I believe him about wanting to battle again.”

“Degenerate, though.” Laki teases.

“...you like it.” Hana whispers to herself. You still hear it.

“Sorry we didn’t see much.” Laki says. “That was a heck of a last battle, though.” She pats Gobble on the back, trying to communicate the sentiment to both you and him. Gobble gives a weak, thankful smile, then goes back to looking down at his feet.

He took it pretty hard. You guess it must be harder to accept when he had gotten so far. And that Primeape seemed to really want to-

“Well fine, asshole!” Abigail shouts at Akua, the large trainer you had battled against earlier. “I didn’t want your phone number anyway!” She watches as he leaves in a hurry. “Can you believe that guy?”

“What happened?”

“Well, I started warming up to him!” She spits. “Dumb mistake that was. We get to talking, and he’s actually really nice and funny. At least, I thought. But then he’s not laughing at my jokes, see? I ask him why, and at first he doesn’t even want to say! Then he finally tells me he thinks I’m being too negative and mean! Me!’

“No!” Laki covers her mouth in feigned shock.

“Right?” Abigail throws up her hands in frustration. “And I- Hey! Up yours! I’m as sweet as a Liechi Berry! Ask anyone!”

Laki opens her mouth to say something, but hesitates and looks to you for half a second first.

“Liechi Berries are also very spicy.” You mentioned.

“...Excuse me?”

Quick! Clarify! “Like Liechi Berries you have an unexpected presences, some people can't handle it, but if you know what to look for you can bring the whole dish together.”

“...”

“What?”

“That’s the most diplomatic way I’ve ever been called a bitch.”

“I didn’t mean that. It’s just that some people don’t mesh well together and that there’s nothing you can really do about it. It just happens, even if they’re perfectly goo-”

“I know!-” She throws her hands up. “I get what you’re saying. Just seems like I don’t mesh with a lot of people. Alright?”

“Probably got something to do with all that raging b-” Laki stops herself mid sentence. She didn’t even try to start saying that. She can see from the expression on your face that she should maybe go a little easy on Abigail. “Raging bad luck in meeting people.”

“Nice save.” Abigail says sarcastically, having seen right through it. “Thanks for the effort, though. I just want to stew in my misery for a bit, alright? Don’t try to infect me with that cheery sunshine attitude crap. Especially you, Soft Hands. It’s not healthy always cheering people up all the time ”

“What do you mean?” Keira asks.

“I scared that guy off by acting like my moth-” She gags. “My mothe-Gahk! I scared him off by acting like a washed up miserable out Slaking. I’ve got to own that. If I don’t feel this miserable feeling, and really let it sink in, I won’t remember it next time. I won’t push myself to avoid becoming her. If I don’t use this miserable feeling to figure out what the hell is wrong with me, I won’t really reflect. Feeling shitty about this is...it’s the best thing I can do. For awhile, anyway.”

Gobble looks up, taking in her words.

>You don’t agree with that at all
>Well, whatever works best -for her-

>You don’t agree with that at all
If she feels negatively about herself when she's doing some self-reflection, that's obviously going to just make her more negative as a person. If she doesn't talk to the person she has a problem with, and explain why she acted the way she did, she is much more likely to end up correcting a symptom, not the cause of her feelings.

Your group makes it to line for the big contest. It looks like it’s going to be a pretty big affair. Luckily you’re still early enough that you’ll probably be able to buy your choice of seating.

“I don’t know if I agree with that.”

“Here we go.”

“That just sounds like a way to stay negative and miserable. If you talk to the person you have a problem with, and explain things, you’ll be much more likely to correct the cause of the issue and not the symptom.”

She rolls her eyes. “-I’m- the person I have a problem with.”

“I know that feeling.” Laki says. “Knew it, anyway.”

“Yeah. Well...” Abigail trails off. She defiantly folds her arms and looks even more cranky than she actually is. The line moves forward.

“Okay, Abigail. But if you’re not feeling better later, I’m going to sunshine you up good.”

She half snorts, then goes back to fuming. “Right in front of your girlfriends, too. All two...wait, is it three now? What’s the whole story here?”

“No.” Laki lightly but quickly smacks Abigail upside the head. “But what is happening is...Well, will sort that out tonight.” She says. “After the contest.”

So, I’ve devised a couple backup plans for fighting a Fug or Fugs if negotiations go poorly. Have you guys got any in your back pockets?
>>
>>3493539
I want to have the Fugs reconcile if possible. In a lot of ways their struggle that mirrors the conflict between islanders and the mainland. I don't think either side needs to be eradicated and that they can live in harmony.
>>
>>3493542
Well yeah, but it’s also easier to negotiate from a position of power.

And I haven’t got much in the way of plans to get them to hash things out. Basically just to let them use human intermediaries. But we haven’t met any of male fug’s champions yet.
>>
>>3493539
I suppose the logical option would be call Kat and say "Hey we've got an evil ghost (as in dead) dragon here that wants to kill everybody, plz be of halp" but that feels like a bit of a cop out.
>>
>>3494999
yeah, calling in one of the most famous Mainlanders to solve a problem completely entrenched in Islander religion and culture is going to be a PR nightmare. I think the real move is to get all the Temples to believe the threat is real and we aren't crazy and to get them to reconcile with the Normal temple because I think we are going to need the strength of all the Temples together to be able to do anything against the Fugs.
>>
>>3495032
I agree entirely, I'm just saying that if it ever comes to a "HE IS RISEN" moment and meteors start falling it'd be pretty hard to justify (in-setting) NOT calling someone you know personally and who has handled potentially world-ending threats before, even if from a meta perspective it's a huge anticlimax to go "yeah your OP character from last campaign handles it, y'all relax."
>>
>>3495312
Well, we could try to engineer an invincible pokemon to tank all the meteors.

It's... not impossible.
>>
>>3495740
Not saying it'd be a good thing, but I could see Kat's Lugia having grown quite strong since the last time we saw them. Lugia versus Rayquaza would at the very least make for a very cinematic fighting scene, especially if it was during a storm in the middle of the sea graveyard.
>>
>>3496996
Yeah but I’d rather see a typeless shedinja block meteors with that beautiful blank expression it always has.

Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Feraligatr)

The ticket line move surprisingly quickly. Usually in these sorts of events there is at least somebody the ticket vendor would know and chat with. Everyone seems to know someone in any given crowd.

“I never really understood these sorts of things.” Laki admits. “It all seems to arbitrary. It’s not like putting a ball in a net or something. How do you measure how entertaining something is?”

“That’s what makes it so special!” Keira cheerfully replies. “It’s about how well you touch the heart of the judges. You still need to practice and work, but it’s about your emotional ability, not your physical ability. It’s important to encourage people and pokemon to do their best in communication their feelings, and contests like this are a great way that we do that. That’s why they’re so important to our culture.”

“Well, yeah!” Laki pretends to sound indignant, as if Keira just explained something she already knew.

Despite the initial line, the seating is pretty wide open. There are rows in the front reserved for high status individuals, and the rest seems to be just people naturally aligning themselves in seats. Sometimes you see young people who finally found a spot they like, just giving it up as soon as they see an older person. There are people that brought pokemon, too. Although it seems like there’s special seating way up in the rafters for any pokemon too large to fit on your lap. There’s also a large open section for very big pokemon to peer into. Laki considers releasing Wailord into that area, but decides against it. Wailord gets a little nervous with too many strange pokemon around, and probably would enjoy itself.

“Uh, where are we sitting? I’ll watch the pokemon up in their area if you guys want. Nothing against Valerie, but I don’t really know her and don’t care as much as you guys.” Abigail shrugs at her own honesty.

Hana and Laki grab each of your arms.

“Group hug!” Keira declares, clinging to Laki’s back, getting a charmed laugh from the taller woman despite herself.

Well, it seems like these three will go wherever you go.

[Hey!]

“Let’s go up in the pokemon seating.” You say, keeping everyone together.

“Awww, but it’s so small from up there.” Keira mopes for a moment. “Oh well, we get to be near the pokemon!” She’s almost instantly back up to 100% cheerful. She’s practically glued to the side of Laki right now for some reason.

“Just can’t get enough of me, huh you guys?” Abigail leads the way.

Keira wasn’t wrong. The view from here isn’t great. But it’s not bad either. You’ll be able to see everything that the presenters want you to see.

“Oh! It’s starting!” Someone says. You, your pokemon, and the gathering of trainers quickly find positions where you can see clearly. It’s a little cramped, though. Anything to save space would probably make this comfier.

“Keira, stop fidgeting. Your butt is too boney!” Laki complains, but with an amused tone.

A few of your pokemon awkwardly squish together. You end up...

Ask where Gardevoir went.
>>
You take Belladonna on one knee easily enough. She claps like a baby when you lift her up. Gobble is a lot trickier, and has to climb up the side seat first. Oof. He’s getting to be hefty. Still, he appreciates it and eagerly points down at the platform.

“Glad you’re excited.” You tell him.

Hana has Gardevoir on her lap, with Cubone on Gardevoir’s lap.

“Are you sure you can handle that?” You ask.

“As long as they stay on the metal part.” She knock the side of her leg, producing a solid thunk noise under fabric of her thin skirt. “I can double as a load bearing platform.”

“You ought to consider working with my dad.” Laki half-jokes.

The show starts simply enough. All eight finalists are introduced in rapid fire procession, each getting two or three seconds to shout their name and strike a quick pose with one of their pokemon. Valerie comes out last, and to a slightly louder applause than all but one of the other girls.

Laki flexes a fist. “You hear that? Valerie is going to win!”

“She might.” Abigail cautions.

While you’ve been having your adventure, Valerie has been practicing and competing fiercely in these contests. It’s a safe bet that you’re in for a good show.

Oh wow. Your leg with Gobble on it is already feeling the strain. If you had both legs or something, it wouldn’t be so bad. He’s growing up just as much as Belladonna and anyone else. But he's also been sensitive about his physical form lately too. His weight being an issue might remind him of that when he's watching something for to enjoy a little escapism.

You lean heavily on Hana for support, and she shifts a little to help you out.

“Gobble is pretty light for a Munchlax, but he’s getting heftier, isn’t he?” She whispers to you, understanding why you can’t handle the weight alone.

Yeah. You’re used to being able to handle him fairly easily. “You’re getting filled out, huh strong guy?” You pat him softly on the back.

He looks back for a second to give a thumb’s up. He liked that! He even scruffles Belladonna’s head a little, causing a cute, giggling protest to come from her before they both continue watching.

You watch the first few presenters come up and do their first routine. It seems like a longer introduction to each of their gimmicks or specific areas of appeal. The one you really encourage Belladonna to pay attention to is...
>The one with the unique light show, where she can reflect more on light in general
>The one with the graceful dancing. Watch how that pokemon leaps on it’s toes

The rest are nice, but they're also things the rest of the team has some experience in through one pokemon or another. There isn't really any pokemon on our team that actively uses light besides Bella, however, so this is a good learning opportunity.

“Watch closely.” You instruct Belladonna as the light show gets into full swing. This coordinator’s routine involves a very dark stage and coordinated lights from spotlights and their pokemon. Belladonna watches carefully, watching the different tricks of the light, and even holding her flower petals out to feel what that particular colour of light feels like. Or maybe what it tastes like. You’re not sure how she’d sense it. But whatever the case is, she’s absorbed and mesmerized by it, and the egg timer in her head is clearly going off.

When it’s over and that trainer is done, a thin, waifish blonde and her Pikipek, Herdier, and Mudkip come out onto the stage.

“Oh! Oh! That’s Valerie!” Keira points.

“How can you tell?” Abigail asks sarcastically.

“She’s blonde!” Keira kicks her feet excitedly, not taking her eyes off the show or picking up Abigail’s sarcasm. Her good mood is infectious enough to earn a begrudging expulsion of air out of Abigail’s nose, as well as a hint of a smile.

Valerie’s first routine is a precise, flawless song and dance. It’s technically amazing. She’s singing an old pop song that apparently was a huge hit on this island at some point. The audience absolutely loves it. The nostalgia, the song, the exotic look she has. As great as it was, you can tell that wasn't the surprise she might have been thinking about going with. Did she change her mind, or is she waiting until later in the show?

“That was Valerie, the sunlight princess!” The announcer says after she’s done, creating another uproar of applause. You’re surprised to just now notice Jacob standing and cheering. It’s hard to miss his hair in the audience, and he draws plenty of eyes shouting about that being his daughter.

After the initial shows, there’s an intermission. You see a few friends and relatives leave their seats to go see the coordinators they know. Some stay where they are or go for quick washroom breaks instead.

You and Hana seem pretty stuck in place. You’re not sure if you can get back into this position if you get up.

Keira, Laki, and Abigail head off to see Valerie, leaving your unlapped pokemon to save their seats. You decide to stay put, but awkwardly fish out your pokedex and text Val with Hana.

“Tell her we’re rooting for her.” Hana adds.

“Done!”

“Tell her she looks good in that dress.”

“Uh, sure.”

“Tell her ‘Banana Panic!’ She’ll know what that means.”

You add that in as well. “You two have a lot of in-jokes.”

Hana nods. “We don’t see each other much since that first trip together, but we text all the time. She’s my best friend. Uh, not that we’re not friends too, but that’s different. We’re more than friends. Well, obviously.” She awkwardly shrugs at her difficulty in expressing herself. “And Laki is my best friend too, but like, you know, in the sense of...we’re together. And stuff.” Hana pushes all the words away, wiggling Gardevoir and Cubone. “You know what I mean. Valerie and I...talk about everything. Stuff we can’t with anyone else.”

>How is Valerie’s mindset right now?

>How much does Valerie hear about your intimate moments?
Well considering her moment of surprise that quickly changed into slightly embarrassed chill, probably quite a lot.
>>
“So how is Valerie doing right now?” You ask, concerned.

“She’s been stressed. Usually that makes her talk waaaaay more - not that I mind reading it- but recently she’s been pulling away. I’ve been waiting until after this contest to talk to her about it, since she’s probably just busy.”

You nod. That seems sensible. “And uh, what about you? What’s been on your mind recently?”

“Y-y-y-know.” She leans in “Priestesses.”

“Keira?”

She nods, biting her lip without realizing it.

“What do you think about that?”

She blinks. “You mean, where it’ll end up? Well, uh, you know. I think I’ve made what I’m about pretty clear.” Her voice takes on that self-depreciating, low pitched tone. “And I think Laki’s come around. Not just because of the fertility priestess thing, but she feels safer with you. You’ve uh, really shown commitment. Just pumped load after load of...commitment into the relationship. -which I’ve been super cool about by the way.- And uh, Laki sees that. Her place is secure. Helping Keira means helping a friend, and also solidifying her spot as the uh, what did Valerie call it...alpha woman.”

“So how much does Valerie know about our intimate life?”

Hana looks worried about the question. “I-I you’re not mad, right? Because I’ve told her a lot. And last night after you guys talked she had a lot of questions she asked me that she didn’t know how to ask you. She knows...pretty much everything now. Sometimes I go on about this or that thing we did...” Gardevoir begins to fidget uncomfortably in Hana’s lap. She almost bites her nails. “You’re not upset, right? I mean, if you are, I can stop it.”

>Well, you wish she’d be a little more private with the more sensitive stuff

>If Laki’s the alpha woman, how does Hana see herself in this relationship?

“I don’t mind. I was just curious.”

“Oh. Phew. That’s a relief. I’ve been pretty tense about that. I just sort of started blurting everything out to her. Once it started I couldn’t stop.” She gives a lopsided, self-conscious smile. “Kind of like when I’m getting wrecked. Which uh...” She gives you a thumbs up, showing her approval.

“Umm, thanks!”

She snorts and fires two finger guns at you, giving a big wink. “Oh no, believe me. Thank YOU.” Her finger pointing slowly goes limp and her sudden enthusiasm is drowned out in gradual, rising awkwardness. “I mean. Wow. Once that train gets goin’” She makes fireworks gesture with her hands.

You get what she means, even if she isn’t always the most eloquent at saying it. “I have a question. If Laki’s the alpha woman, how do you see yourself in this relationship.”

“Same way I think of myself in all relationships, I guess. I’m the secondary character.”

“The what?”

“You know. I’m the Samwise. I’m the supporting friend. I’m not the main character of the movie. I don’t want to be. That’s always a Goldeen out of water story. The best friend character, or cool helpful character, that’s what I like. I want to be part of the adventure, and help. I like shade instead of the spotlight. I’ve gotten my fill of attention and being told I’m special. I want to be a supporting character from now on.” She squishes her face around a bit. “I hope I’m making sense. I don’t want that to come off as putting myself down or anything.”

“I think I get it.” You nod.

She smiles. “Really? Because I never feel like I’m explaining it right. Well, I’m glad, anyway.”

There’s another topic you want to pick her mind about quickly. “Do you have any insight on what Keira is feeling right now?”

“Dude, are you serious? She’s practically flying. That is giddy bounce of a priestess, who instead of living a celibate life away from boys, has just had a world of hot, guilt-free, virile, guided, barbarian super-dickings presented to her. At least, that’s my take on it.” She thinks. “Keira’s probably also happy to have intimacy and close friends. She still has some in the clergy, but a lot of that world has been shaken for her. She’s grateful, but because we’re her new support structure, and there’s a lot of new territory with you and I being mainlanders and everything else going on, there’s something in the back of her mind making her worry about losing it. She’s most excited, but a little scared.”

You consider her words, not sure about which to comment on first. But as Keira comes up the way and people are getting back into their seats, you decide to go to the next question you had instead. “What does Valerie think about our relationship, anyway?”

“Honestly? She’s confused. She doesn’t get it. She’s pretty big into monogamy and doesn't get how we work. I mean, I don’t get how any relationship really works, but they do. But yeah. She’s happy for us, and thinks we’re rushing stuff, but it’s not a mean judgmental thing. She's just concerned. I think she’ll come around in time, though. She just wants everyone to be happy.”

The girls are coming back now. You only have a few quick moments to go over anything you talked about

>Thank her for her insights. Watch the rest of the show
>You want to get Valerie’s understanding and blessing
>Would she mind if you talked to Polu about your intimate life?
>Doesn’t she want anything more than to be the ‘supporting character?’
>Something else

“Thanks. That’s really helpful.”

“‘S’what I’m here for. Structural support, insight, emergency relief, anything but public speaking.”

You snuggle into her. It’s a little awkward, with the two of you balancing four pokemon on your legs, and needing to see the stage, but somehow, you manage to do it.

Hana gives a quick wet peck on you cheek before settling into the cuddle. There’s something so wholesome and good-feeling about that gesture that just warms you right to the bone. The soft feeling of the lips, the smell of her lip-balm and hair, and the way her finger traces and taps around your hand as she holds it gives a great sense of comfort. Hana feels closer to you now than before your conversation.

You're really glad you have her in your life.

[That’s it for tonight. It’s a bit of an early night for me tonight. We’ll for sure run Friday and for sure Sunday, and the bin is most finished and just needs finishing touches so that will be ready for then too. There’s a small chance of running tomorrow but we’ll see.]

Thanks for running!

Also we really should give Polu a call to talk guy stuff with him, even if it happens off-screen.

I bet you that at some point Hana is going to try and arrange a surprise for Laki in the form of Valerie joining her and Herb for an evening, probably the instant she has the mental image of Laki with a cute blond mainlander on each arm.
>>
>>3506376
I don’t think Herb and Val have that sort of relationship.
>>
>>3506376
Laki would go for it, not sure Herb and Val would.
>>
>>3506428
This.
>>3507337
I’m not even convinced Laki would at this point. One exception for Kiera with a lot of conversations and good intentions isn’t the same as bringing in another girl just for fun.
>>
>>3507409
Yeah, but Laki really wanted to fuck Val for a long time.
>>
Let’s put a bookmark in that idea for a potential birthday gift. it’s not at all because I’m envisioning Hana wrapping both of the blondes in rope and leaving them trussed up to stare at each other in bed while Hana grabs the birthday girl for a very special set of gifts
>>

When she was single. It just doesn’t fit their relationship dynamic now. Laki has shown no interest in adding more girls and took a lot of convincing even for Kiera’s unique situation. It also seems very out of character for Val to agree to it and could risk damaging the friendships of everyone involved.

This part isn’t directed at anyone in particular, just putting it out there: Harem style relationships in quests/stories can, and usually do, cheapen individual bonds from a narrative perspective. What we have right now is great and I’ve honestly never seen such a dynamic written and handled so well. I don’t want to lose that over a desire to turn this into Fuck Quest (not that there is anything wrong with liking it separately). I can’t help but feel like adding in another girl beyond what we’ve already committed to may tip the balance towards cheapening what has been built here.

Nah you're right, don't think it's too high priority but I think the next time we get our aura "level ups" I might go for the libido option if it shows up again... But then I think about the double FUGS
>>
>>3507896
And there’s always alternate timeline bins if we just feel horny for reverse Oreo sex as an audience.

I personally like Abi’s reference images the best, but she’s super off the table.
>>
>>3507969
Non-canon “what if” bins would be cool. Can’t argue with that.
