Everwood Civ Thread #13

In the last thread we decided that we shall invade the Holy Theocracy of Belinlos and bring an end to the tyranny of Tarrex! The entire might of the Wine-Dark Empire shall fall upon them like a raging storm and batter their defenses to the ground! The current plan is for a swift coastal invasion using the element of surprise to seize their capital city! With Esau Shinebringer having stepped down as Overlord, Saul Isaacs has been selected to fill the position!

Forces:
8,000 Legionaries
5,000 Continental Legionaries

Special Units:
Bio-titan Bal
Golem Sea-Reaver
Champion Yami
Champion Yeshu
Champion Dissus
High Priest Stormseer

The fleet has been launched, are there any final preparations you would like to make before landing?
>>

Your massive fleet docks at Dragon's Graveyard before launching south approaching from the deep sea as to not give away your approach. Morale of the legions is high as they are eager to lock blades with their hated foe. The Pygmies sing odd songs in their bastard tongue that many men can't help but join in even though they do not know the words! Land is quickly sited and the rowers push for all they can to bring your ships to shore!

Give me 3d100 for the first phase of your invasion!

It seems you have truly caught Belinlos with their pants down, the pygmies are the first to hit the shores with their sleeks smaller vessels allowing for great speed in small burst! The sounds of warning horns are raised all across Belinlos but the gates are still full of traders and merchants when the pygmies swarm inside hacking apart guards swarming into the guardhouse! With a foothold secured the legionaries and supporting warlocks smash through the disorganized defenses of the city managing to secure the entirety of the harbor before the city had time to properly form a defense! The dawn of the first day has fallen with nonstop activity on both sides as the invaders prepare for new assaults and the shocked defenders throw up rushed defenses!

What will you do now?
>>
>>3451572
Conduct Night attacks. They will not be allowed a moment's respite.
>>
>>3451572
Go deeper into the city. Push further before they can muster an effective defense.

The walls and buildings within the city seem to constantly shift trapping attackers and saving defenders! The overzealous pygmies are taking the brunt of the damage as they charge into ambush after ambush thinning their numbers greatly! This is incredibly frustrating as almost every attempt to push forward is cut off by the movement of walls! By the time the sun has once again risen no progress at all has been made into breaching the inner areas of the city! A messenger has arrived from the Belinlos offering terms for your withdrawal!

The Overlord has decided to take this deal happy with blooding the nose of these heretics and gaining a large amount of magic weapons, gemstones and silver. Most of the losses have been pygmies and who truly cares for those little bastards?

The Protectorate is very impressed at you achieving what they called an impossible feat and have offered the hand of Ashi Agossos to the Emperor which he has accepted.

In the West it seems the Sunset Imperium has almost completely fallen with the Union of Free Clans and the Serene Republic of the Moon Lord. Only the capital itself still stands a true shattered piece of it’s former glory.

>>
>>3451795
that s a good idea too
>>
You find through your contacts in the United Heavenly Kingdom that the gemstone for light is Amber and it’s temperament is Positivity.
Light + Fire = Illusion
Light + Water = Hypnosis
Light + Air = Sound
Light + Earth = Fertility
Light + Dark = Life

As for runes you search through the myriad of artifacts gained by the populace during the last war creating a new list of runes learned:
Bone, Blood, Attract, Expel, Protect, Wine, Sun, Death, Add, Subtract, Ice

The biggest problem among your runesmiths is that the more complex the runic chain the more mana it requires along with the mana requirements for each rune varying. The runes you used before only siphoned off small amounts of mana from their wielders were now you require outside power sources for these runic combinations. Another important discovery is how the metal used in smithing can help lower the mana costs with gold and silver being high mana metals while copper and iron are low mana metals.

With help from the Jaguar Enclave alchemists within the Empire now have the ability to produce Dragonfire. It requires a complex production of several chemical processes such as quick lime, sulfur and several types of tree resin. With these new techniques alchemists have begun to pop up all over the Empire with a new interest in the natural sciences being birthed.

The day after your sacrifice islands all over the Wine-Dark Empire have massive crabs emerge from the depths. These crabs are eager to with transportation, labour and even fighting if needed! These creatures are a true blessing of Galoris and are even kinda cute in their own creepy way.

In other new the Union of Free Clans is making an effort to assault the Sunset Capital and have reportedly sacrificed Sunblighter to their god. Trade has also begun to decline as the Iron King has cut off trade and the Iceborn raiding routes to the East.

From the north the army of the Iron King attacks your island holdings quickly overrunning Dragon's Graveyard as they are support by the massive dragon Kinslayer! On the continent their forces join with Belinlos to strike at the Protectorate seeking to throw them back into the sea. The fighting for the lower ring is finished within hours as the militia presence is not near enough to halt the advance of a real army. However the choke point to gain access to the terrace has turned the passage way into a scene from hell as corpses choke the entrance. The Swordmasters are holding for now however they are offered one chance to surrender or the Swamp Dogs will be sent in.

On Loslina itself fighting has engulfed the royal palace as the Priests enter an all out war against the Oathkeepers. Lead by the Champions of Yami and Dissus the Inner circle has started a brutal attack in an effort to rescue Shem who they say has been kidnapped! Preachers shout on every corner that the Oathkeepers have fallen to false idols and work against the Empire! The initial edge is with the zealous and well trained Priests who see the pursuit of martial might as a holy one!

Olamir and it’s forts are too strong to be easily overcome. Withdraw the units deployed and send them to Teris. We will lift the siege and crush their attacking army.

You withdraw the legions to their ships many of which are merchant vessels however it appears the Olamir Navy has come to block any attempt. Their navy numbers at 40 Triremes, while you have superior ship designs you only have ten war ships. What will you do?

Meanwhile on Teris the Swordmasters have to hold back a push from the Elite Dosmir infantry, the Swamp Dogs.

The Masters of the Harvesting Blade and the militia of Teris find great strength in the fertile wheat fields of the terrace. In the open space the fighting style truly shines unlike the cramped corridor that they once defended. While they can hear fighting echoing up from the lower quarter no reinforcements have made it up. A single warrior strides to the front issuing a challenge to the Swordmasters.

"I AM THE CHAMPION OF DAGO, COME FACE ME BLADEMASTERS! I WILL BREAK YOU ALL!"

Will you answer his challenge?

The Legions are not enough as they are pushed back slowly but surely to their boats taking massive casualties from the inhuman Swamp Dogs. Once on board their ships they retreat to Merli hoping to link up with the personal army of the Rayan Family.

It has been one week since the start of the war with both Teris and the Tip being captured. However in the Procterate the advancing armies have been blunted with the Continental Legion delivering a decisive defeat to the Belinlos army at Bloodsoil and the Bojmor citadel holding off an assault by Kinslayer by getting a lucky ballista bolt into her eye.

Emperor Shem has also emerged, wounded but alive from his sickness and is moving with the members of clergy alongside every man who can hold a weapon to form an army on Merli.
>>
>>3452451
On Merli itself you have gathered:
2,000 Legionaries
1,000 Rayan Riders
10,000 Militia
10 Quadriremes
And many merchant ships

What will you do now?
>>
>>3452455

At Home

Shem and the lords here will regroup and defend Neas Hope. Still Merli citizens need to be evacuated, as they are not safe there.

The defense will not be easy as the city is vast.

Many militia could be made, and scouts need to be send on the road betweern the tip and here.

Any villages and supplies on the road and near, need to be evacuated. Olamir and the Dosmir dogs will have nothing !

The fleet shall prepare as well. A bloody battle will arrive.

Prepare yourself.

Neas Hope is a hive of activity as Shem and his general’s set about fortifying the city and preparing for the coming invasion. Every man who can hold a weapon is recruited into the militia and most of the populace is evacuated into the inner ring of Merli. Horrible news has also arrived from Samir, several members of the senate has staged a coup and opened the gates of the city to the Olamir Republic. There is good and bad news from the other fronts as Kinslayer has destroyed Bojmor turning the ancient citadel into slag however the Continental Legion has managed to break the siege of Bloodsoil causing the main Belinlos force to withdraw. It is four days before the sails of the Olamir Fleet is seen from Neas Hope. You must last for at least five more days for the main army to return! Shem himself shall be joining the battle on the frontlines.

The disorganized and untested militia cannot stand against the full force of the Olamir and Dosmir Legions which press deep into the city punching through your defenses. Leading their invasion force is the Champion of Ifit who fires off blinding beams of light and has an aura that causes men to become drunk and sluggish. The elite Swamp Dogs show no mercy as the revel in the slaughter. With this Shem orders Rayan’s Raiders to flank the invaders to take pressure off the defenders.

The Priests of the Ruby Conclave are dispersed among the militia acting as squad leaders and motivating the defenders to fight with the fury of Galoris. The fighting has completely bogged down into street by street fighting with the Republican army paying inch by bloody inch to advance into the city. As the messenger finishes talking Esau Shinebringer steps forward raising his hand as his eyes shine a pale white. The messenger is lifted from his horse by wind with it constricted and slowly choking the life out of him. Shem comments that it may have been a tad much but Esau only shrugs tossing the corpse to the side. With this Shem announces it is time for the real war to begin, he had been holding all of the Legionaries and Warlocks in reserve preparing for this moment. It is time to take the offensive with the Emperor at the head, his very body has begun to crackle with green lightning and his words seem to resonate into the very souls of the men surrounding him! The sheer tide of men and magic blows past the hasty defenses put up by the army. Shem however has only one goal in mind, the camp of the Swamp Dogs. “PROTECT ME” He yells as green lightening once again crackles through his body and into that of the champion.

As if possessed by the holy spirit Galoris herself they throw themselves back into the fight pushing back the shocked Republicans. As this happens Shem rises the drained corpse of the Champion of Dago lying on the ground in front of him. The green lightning bounces from one man to the next like a spark lighting fire to a forest. Injured men have their wounds heal in seconds, exhausted men feel more rested then they ever have and mages can feel new mana flow into their souls. This is more than the men of Olamir and Dosmir can bear as it turns into a full rout as they scramble towards their ships. However the ocean holds no safety as thousands of Angelsharks emerge from the water clambering up the ships, destroying oars and dragging men down in the black depths of the sea. Many of the soldiers attempt to surrender but in the frenzy no quarter is taken with only a small portion and the Champion of Ifit escaping into the Silverwood. The day is won but of the men who launched this assault with the Emperor only half return alive.
