“Heeeeey Izzy! Been a while!” a blonde schoolgirl greets you excitedly at West City’s main airport.

“Haha, has been a few months, hasn’t it?” you ask as the two of you hug. “How’ve you been, Sachie?”

She grins wide and giggles. “Been keeping busy, that’s for sure. Though nowhere near as busy as you, from what I’ve heard.”

“It’s good to see you again, Gohan.” Zarid comments, shaking your cousin’s hand.

Gohan rubs the back of his neck. “Hah, yeah. Sorry for kinda... ditching you at the end of the Tournament there. Just had some stuff that I had to deal with. You know, stopping criminals, saving a blind kid, meeting a group of ninja...”

“Think you mentioned that before.” Sachie comments to you. “You guys still in contact with them?”

“Well... with me, mostly. There’s still some tension between their leader and some among us. I do what I can to help ease things between them.” Gohan comments.

“All right. If you think you’d be able to, mind setting up a meeting between us? I’d like to see what these ninja are capable of.” Sachie asks, excitement still in her voice.

“Maybe, maybe...”

“So, did you guys just want to stay here and chat, or do we have a plan for today?” Zarid questions.

>A. We were going to head out to meet Lime, she’s going on this thing exploring some ancient ruins

“Weeeeell, we were going to meet up with this friend of ours, Lime, who’s going off to explore some ancient ruins today. You guys up to tag along?”

“Sure!” Sachie exclaims. “That sounds like a ton of fun, right Zarid?”

“Eheh, I mean, I guess...” he laughs out awkwardly. “Though, what kind of ancient ruins are these?”

“Well, it’s the first of a few she’s signed up for. This one’s dealing with a pyramid complex, with a labyrinth underneath connecting them all together.” you explain. “Part of a little university-funded dig.”

“Ooooh! Spooky mummies and the like, huh?” Sachie asks. “Definitely up for that!”

“Well, I guess we could give it a go.” Zarid confirms. “How are we getting there, though?”

“No worries about that. I think I showed you guys this before.” you tell them, heading outside. Then, you call out, “Flying Nimbus!”

The yellow cloud flies down, parking itself in front of the four of you. Sachie, remembering it, excitedly hops onto the cloud... and to your relief, still doesn’t fall through. “Wow! Haha, it’s like the world’s comfiest pillow! ...How do you make it go?”

“Just kinda have to direct it. It’s pretty smart, it’ll understand your commands.” you tell her. “Zarid, you gonna hop on too?”

He nods, and cautiously moves on to the cloud... and he doesn’t pass through either. Whew. Gohan especially seems relieved. You and your cousin take to the skies, Sachie and Zarid flying along with the Nimbus. Along the way you catch up with them a bit. Seems like Zarid and Sachie have been learning from the guy who trained the previously, one Kung Fu Master Tsukutsun Tsun. Who... apparently turns into a tiger when touched by a woman. Weird.

Arriving at the pyramids, the air a good deal warmer and drier and you recalling just how much you didn’t like it last time you were in the area, you find an odd scene. People running and screaming as shambling figures slowly approach from the pyramid entrances. Getting closer to the ground, you spot Lime taking a defensive stance... and those figures seem to be mummies.

>A. Head down and help Lime take them on!

You bolt down to where Lime is and stand beside her, bringing your guard up as well. “Started the party without us?”

“Less joking, more stopping them!” she calls out, one of the mummies approaching. Both you and Lime thrust your palms forward, letting out a Kiai that knocks it down. You then Clothes Beam on some restraints, pinning the moaning, hissing mummy to the ground.

Still in the air, Gohan blasts another with a Geist Magnum, hitting it in a rotting leg hard enough to knock it off and caust the mummy to collapse to the ground. Sachie and Zarid likewise leap off the Nimbus and dropkick another together. Only one remains, slowly, mindlessly shambling towards you all, with Zarid placing his hands on the ground and letting out a Ki shockwave through the sand as Sachie forms a sphere of Ki in her hand, leaping up at the monster once it’s knocked into the air and smashing the sphere into it, sending the monster flying down to the ground.

With most of them incapacitated, you get to work Clothes Beaming restraints on the rest. “So, mind telling us what’s going on here?”

“To be honest I got here like barely 20 minutes ago.” Lime tells you. “All I know is that something inside woke these things up, and now they’re chasing most everyone out of here.”

In the distance you see a few more researchers still around, huddled behind an overturned table.

“Better get the rundown then. Before we do anything stupid and like, get infected by the mummy’s curse.” you comment.

“Oooh, spooky.” Sachie remarks, waving her hands a little and repeating, “Mummy’s cuuuurse~” in a slightly childish tone.

You laugh, and start marching towards the table the researchers are hiding behind. “Hey! We drove them off, you can stop cowering!”

“Y-you did?” one asks as he pokes his head up, an older man looking a bit like a taller, skinnier Dr. Briefs.

“Yeah, we did. Now what the heck was up with that?” Lime asks them, pointing her thumb back behind her at the captured mummies.

“And who are you, exactly?” Zarid questions.

“W-well, I am Dr. Tortellini Challenger, we are part of the Royal Academy of Science, on an archaeological dig into the tomb of the great Pharaoh Totenhotep. We were doing fairly well until a strange, smell started to leak out from the pyramid’s walls. Before we knew it, we were being hounded and chased out by those mummies and other strange creatures!”

“...Other strange creatures?” Zarid repeats curiously.

“Statues that came to life, skeletons in armor, ghosts haunting the halls, it was dreadful. We barely got out of there with our lives! Me, Rotini, Ziti, and-” He looks around. “...W-where is Dr. Rigatoni?”

The other two look around, dread washing over their faces. “He... he was inside still, with that other kid who- ...oh no.”

“So, we have two people still trapped in there?” Sachie asks. “Then no time to waste! Let’s get in and save their butts!”

“Before we go, is there anything else, anything specifically that might have caused them to act up?” you question the researchers.

He lowers his head. “Well, Rigatoni seemed to be heading in deeper, looking for the Pharoah’s treasure, a special headdress. Oh I don’t know if I could look his little girl in the face if we were to lose him here...”

>A. All right, let’s all get in there, quick!

“Hey, Gohan, since you’re the fastest, can you head out to Baba’s real quick to ask for some help in dealing with this mummy business? She’s got folks who’d know what to do.”

He’s about to agree, when his eyes narrow. “...Mummy business?”

“Just get your butt moving! We’ll try and get to the people still trapped in there. Counting on you, cous!” He shakes his head and jumps up, accelerating and bolting away. You look over at everyone around you. “All right, let’s all get in there quick!”

“One thing.” Zarid stops you as you start to march. “What’s so important about this headdress?”

“We’ve been researching certain legends about the Pharoah of this pyramid, and how the headdress was said to possess certain unique attributes. Most of them just seemed to be myths and tall tales, but one attributed to in all sources of the period was an odd one: an ability to ward off ‘miasma.’” the researcher explains.

“I did do some research into that.” Lime comments. “...Wait, you mentioned a strange smell?”

“Sulfurous, left an odd, lingering scent. Started spooking us as soon as we began smelling it.” he replies.

...

Crapbaskets. You don’t like the sound of this. But you can’t give up now! “Okay, let’s get in there and save some people!”

“Yeah!”

The four of you march forward, heading into the pyramid. Almost immediately, you’re accosted by that foul odor the researcher was talking about. “Oof. Okay, this is stronger than I was expecting.” Sachie grumbles.

“Keep your eyes open, no telling what might be in here.” You look around, spotting a few lit torches lighting the way. Hmm... and you’re getting a really uneasy feeling just walking through the area.

Okay, first thing’s first, try to get the air just a little fresher in here. “Everyone, huddle up closer. I’ve got an idea.” Sachie, Zarid, and Lime all get closer as you charge up your Ki a little, then let out a barrier around you all, using Wind magic to push away the bad air you’re smelling.

Sachie looks over it in wonder. “Woah! That’s really cool! ...Hmm.” You then sense her build up some Ki herself, bringing a spiraling ball of it up in her left palm. “Ha!” She brings it out of the barrier... and fails to really do much of anything.

“...What are you doing.” Zarid less asks and more accuses.

“Was seeing if I could kinda mimic it. Guess not!” Sachie brings her hand back in, checking over her nails. “Aww, boo. Took some of the polish off.”

“Weeeell, not something someone can pick up just by looking at it.” you tell her proudly. “That said... you did give me an idea there!” Forming a Spirit Bit, you send it out ahead of you all, mixing it both with Light and Wind Magic as you scout ahead with it, all of you following the sphere as you march along. You come to a room with jackal-headed and falcon-headed statues, with a pair of skeletal soldiers rattling near two paths forward, approaching your group slowly. You all take up your guards as you send the Spirit Bit out in the direction East, watching as the skeletons move closer. You bring it back, then send it out North... and hear a strange sound. As if a beam fired out, followed by crumbling sounds. But you only sense the faint... well, you wouldn’t really call it “life force” considering what it belongs to, of some more mummies up ahead.

“So I’m guessing there are traps in here.” Zarid states. “Because that sounded like a trap.”

“Ancient laser beams. Of course this place has those.” Lime sighs out. “Getting more and more glad you guys decided to tag along.”

Well, first thing’s first, gotta deal with these things. “Everyone, look sharp, these guys mean business!”

“They don’t feel that strong.” Sachie comments, readying her stance. “So let’s take ‘em down quick!”

“I’ve got an idea. Everyone, get back!” Zarid calls out, moving ahead slightly and placing his hands on the floor, letting out another one of his Ki shockwaves. That manages to trip up the couple of skeleton soldiers, allowing you and Sachie to jump ahead and hit the both of them with palm strikes. You notice, however, while they’re certainly not quite up to your level, that the skeleton soldier you struck was able to take the hit without collapsing completely. Sachie likewise is surprise by the durability of her opponent.

Both raise their swords overhead, only for Lime to use their focus on the two of you to sneak up on one and grab it by the helmet, turning it around to blind it, allowing Sachie a chance to grab the soldier’s arm and throw it to the ground, pulling out a kunai and stabbing it into the skeleton’s sword hand. She flips away, about to bring out a V-sign, only to slip awkardly on a bundled bit of spiderweb. “H-hey! Who put that there?”

“Focus, Sachie!” you tell her, raising your Ki higher as you kick out the skeleton soldier’s leg, following that up with a backflip kick to its jaw, firing at it with your Spirit Bit. The skeleton soldier goes down, falling into a wall... and causing the room to shake slightly, a brick falling down from the roof and narrowly avoiding your head. “Yeesh. Okay, we’re gonna need to be careful with this place. Don’t use up too much power here.”

“Right, guess I won’t be pulling that trick on any of the above floors.” Zarid comments.

“Well, that was more trouble than I thought it’d be.” Lime states, Sachie trying to remove the spiderweb from her shoe. “Where to next?”

“Let’s go East, less traps that direction. And not like the path North isn’t going anywhere.” You hope. Everyone gets back in the barrier and you carefully move East, spotting two falcon-headed statues flanking another doorway... and something ominous moving through the darker areas of the room. It then... starts to crawl up a wall.

“Hah, finally got off that...” Sachie turns her head. “...That...” She looks up at the thing on the thing moving up to the cieling. “Thaaat’s a spider. That’s a BIG spider!”

“...It’s not a spider.” Zarid states. “It’s got the body of a snake!” It bares its fangs at you all, a slithering and crawling beast, at least 10 meters long at the tail, and... it seems to let out some blackened mist from them.

Your skin crawls as you see the thing maneuver closer. And your gut reaction goes from mild disgust to creeping fear to oh god oh please get rid of it kill it kill it KILL IT! You yell out as you fire a Ki blast into the cieling...

And the monster dodges.

And starts to chuckle.

“IS THAT THING LAUGHING?!” Lime exclaims.

“Once more, foolish humans creep into my lair.” the... spider-snake thing speaks, its voice neither fully feminine nor masculine, but sinister nonetheless, its fangs chittering.

“W-what in the world are you?”

“I am the great and mighty devouring one, I am-!” Its name ends up utterly incomprehensible, sounding like hissing and chittering with the best you can approximate as an actual couple words are “apep” and “arach” as it says its name. “With Totenhotep awoken, the prophecy has been fulfilled!” it declares, skittering... slithering closer. “And now foolish humans have come, seeking fortune and fame, only to fall to my fangs, for I may once more feast on their fle-AGH!”

A shuriken empowered with Ki strikes the monster in the eye. “Kick its butt!” Sachie yells out.

“YOU DARE?!” it shrieks out, a surge of Ki... vile, devilish Ki, jolting up from its body. “YOU WILL FALL FIRST!”

Everyone scrambles out of the way as it lunges forward, the injury from Sachie’s shuriken blinding it slightly and allowing everyone, even Lime, to get out of the way. You snap your fingers with one hand and draw your sword with the other, a blast of flames catching on the monster’s head... area. Where the spider body is and where the snake head would be. Yegh. Whatever! You then slash at its serpentine section... only for it to slither out of the way. But right into Zarid’s path, who manages to leap onto the back and place his hands down, delivering a shockwave right into the monster’s spine. Lime meanwhile manages to pick up one of the statues and, through great effort, slam it down in the side of the beast Zarid struck, pinning it temporarily as it desperately tries to put out the fire you set on its face.

“He’s as tough as he is nasty.” Sachie comments, standing beside you.

“Worse than that, I think he’s an actual demon.” You tighten the grip on your sword.

“I don’t know if all of us can keep this up. And he said that Pharaoh guy was ‘awake,’ which sounds like even more bad news.” Lime comments. “You guys gonna keep at this?”

“I’ve got a plan but I’ll need some help to make sure this works.” you reply, watching as the monster moves. “We can’t put out too much power in this place or it’ll start to collapse. But... well, what we can do is use this place against it. Use that to our advantage, along with something else.”

“Waaaait.” Zarid looks to you. “You’re thinking about that area up north?”

“Worth a shot! Sachie, Zarid, I’ll need your help here! We go at it and trap it in there!” You power up, your aura flaring around you. With a smug smirk, you add, “Heh, guess this’ll be one more to put under my belt.”

“Pitiable humans!” it yells out in anger, finally getting the statue off its body. “You only delay the inevitable, and make your coming end all the more painful! I will tear you limb from limb, break open your bones and-!”

“NOW!” you yell out, bringing up a Spirit Bot and flinging it at the monster’s chattering mouth, firing inside, mixed with a bit of Light magic for good measure! It howls out in pain, letting Sachie and Zarid get ahead of it, you following them, but trailing just enough that the monster’s chasing you.

“GET BACK HERE!”

As it lunges at you, you lead it into the northern room, flying faster as you notice several cat-headed statues flanking the walls... with their eyes starting to light up. The demon lunges in after you, and beams shoot out from the eyes of the statues, bombarding it from all sides, causing the monster to shriek and hiss in pain. “Sorry to rain on your parade, but you’re gonna be staying here for a while! HYDRO STORM!” You bombard it with blessed water. “SACHIE, ZARID, PIN IT DOWN!”

Both leap into the air, going for the ceiling, but the monster manages to swat Zarid down with its tail. Sachie though slams her fist into the ceiling, hard enough that it begins to collapse, piling up on the beast and pinning it down. You then use the Clothes Beam to keep it from collapsing any further, finally landing in front of the beast. It gargles and hisses. “YOU... WHAT IS YOUR NAME, YOU DAMNABLE GIRL?!” it asks in rage, but its voice sounds... weaker.

You narrow your eyes at the monster and turn away. It hisses and shrieks louder. “You refuse me?! You DARE, little girl?! When I get out of here, I will hunt you down! Our battle will not end here!”

Turning back to it and crossing your arms, you declare to the beast, “This was no battle. You were nothing but a merciless demon seeking fresh victims. Hiding in the shadows, afraid of those who case forth the light to oppose you.”

“Damn you! WHO ARE YOU?!”

“Scum like you don’t deserve to know my name!” You kick at the ground in front of the beast. A crack starts to form, and the floor beneath it finally starts to give way from the hulking body of the creature and the rubble piled on top of it. The floor collapses, taking the monster down with it.

But before it sinks back into the darkness, it calls out to you, “YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS, GIRL! THE CHILDREN WILL HUNT YOU DOWN! THEY WILL HUNT DOWN YOUR WHOLE FAMILY! THE PROPHECY CAN NOT BE STOOOOOooooo...!”

You hop across the hole you made, over to Sachie and Zarid. “Eheh, might have overdone that.”

“Overdone nothing! That was so cool! SO COOL!” Sachie exclaims, leaping into the air excitedly. “You practiced that, right? You have to have practiced that.”

You start laughing (partially to deflect away from giving a proper answer) and tell her, “Come on, we still got a couple people to save.”

Also, dayuuuum, this is something I suggested Gohan could handle (cuz you know, he doesn't get cool things ever since the Majin arc) and Izzy reaped all the cool bits while he's handling Gofer duties. I guess I'll just have to accept that Gohan will never do cool things in this quest ever since we declined every opportunity to give him nuance. He's just "Peppa's less cool brother who's the most spare guy like his Uncle before him" or "Not Peppa." Why is it that Gohan and Acer exist again?

You return to Lime with Sachie and Zarid, your barrier back up and a proud look on your face. “So! Think we’ve got that all cleared up. Ol’ sider... snake... whatever it was, knocked down a hole and probably not gonna bother us.”

“Definitely glad you guys decided to tag along.” she sighs out. “I’m not exactly a pushover, gramps has seen to that, but that thing? No way I could’ve taken it down on my own.”

“It yelled something about ‘the children’ though. And thaaaat’s got quite the ominous ring to it.” Zarid adds.

“Eh, shouldn’t be nearly as tough as that thing was.” Sachie states confidently.

“But we’ve got no time to lose here. Still two people trapped in this place.” you remind them. “We need to get moving.”

“Well...” Lime looks east, towards an open doorway. “That direction leads to some kind of bottomless pit, but there’s another doorway over there. While that one...” She points to a northern doorway. “Heads into a hallway with a few skeleton soldiers and a mummy, but I sensed something above us. Something a good deal more alive than the rest of the things in here.”

“That might be them! Or at least one of them!” Sachie exclaims. “Let’s get going!”

You check up, sensing above you like Lime did. You... do feel something faint. Certainly could be one of them. “Well, we need to do what we can to avoid any more cave-ins, so finding another way around might be a good idea. Still... hrmn. Wonder if I can find a way around to it...” You approach the wall, knocking on it. Hmm... maybe...?

Wait, got an idea! Kinda like how bats and dolphins echo-locate, maybe you could do something similar using Wind Magic! You place your hands on it, letting out a pulse of Ki, mixed with Wind! ...And you kinda get a bit of a bit of a feel that the wall is solid all the way through. Hmm. Maybe you can try to use this again to find where you need to go, but it’ll take a lot of focus to really pull it off.

Heading into the room with the bottomless pit, you notice... it’s not quite the right description of it. There’s a bit of sand or dust or something resting on a bit in the middle. Scooting closer, you can see there’s probably some kind of path leading from the entrance to exit of the room. Also, what seems to be a phantom or two lurking along the path.

In the other room, there are the skeleton soldier and the mummy Lime mentioned. Don’t seem like they’ve noticed any of you yet. Well, you’ve got a plan or two, but you still need something more to go off of. And so, you contact Gohan. “Hey, cous, what’s the holdup?”

‘Soooo in addition to learning some new, ancient swears from Bandages, I’ve been getting some info on who this guy was. Seems like he was... kind of a tremendous jerk?’ your cousin tells you. ‘Well, jerk isn’t the word Bandages used, but still. Bandages calls him Totenhotep of the Devils, who once made a pact with demons for great power. Sounds like there’s some kind of prophecy too about like this... demon that was sealed away upon his mummification.’

“Demon? Yeah, kicked its butt.” you comment aloud proudly. “So, what else do we have? You gonna be back soon?”

‘Soon enough, Baba’s got something to help. Apparently there’s a proper ritual to put him back to sleep. Something involving a game of minds and shadows and... look, I’ll get back to you on that.’

>A. Okay, we need to priotitize the people in here, get them to safety, and let Gohan be the one to put the mummy back to sleep

“Okay, Gohan’s finding a way to put the mummy back to rest, we need to prioritize getting the people it’s captured out of here.” you declare. “We know at least one is above us, so let’s not waste any more time on this.”

“Okay, but how do we get there? This place is still a bit of a maze.” Lime comments.

“I do have an idea. Me testing the walls out earlier wasn’t just to show off.”

“Ahhh, secret passages. Of course.” Sachie comments, nodding her head. “Okay, we can do that.”

“Next room is closest to where we sensed them, so let’s test that out. Can you guys back me up?”

“We’ll do our best, Izumi.” Zarid replies affirmatively.

“Then let’s get to it! No time to lose!” You march in, the skeletal soldiers finally catching notice, shambling towards you along with the mummy. You start checking the walls as Zarid and Sachie move up to confront them, Lime watching your back as you work. While you’re there, you keep in contact with Gohan. ‘How’s the Gauntlet, by the way? Thinking about taking it soon.’

‘Well, can’t say it’s boring, that’s for sure. These girls definitely know their stuff, I think they’ve improved since the Tournament.’

‘Huh, so the ghouls are the gauntlet now? Neat.’ You keep checking the walls. ‘Hey, that mind and shadows thing, that have a trick to it? Could someone like, challenge the Pharaoh to a rock-off or something?’

‘Eh, maybe. I’m gonna be heading back soon, let me check in with Baba on that.’

Well, some good news now...

Mmmhhh, come on, this has to work! You try to pulse out some Wind Magic against the wall, trying to find something, anything, that’ll let you know if there’s a secret passage. You get... nothing. Bah! Clearly this is something that needs more work. Hmm... maybe if you give it a bit more juice and- WAIT TOO MUCH!

You accidentally blast through the wall, revealing that there was something on the other side. Keyword “was.” You blast with enough force that the wall crumbles around it... and a good chunk of the ceiling in that section comes down too. Completely... covering a staircase in rubble. Crrrrapbaskets.

“IZZY WHAT THE HECK?!” Lime exclaims, dodging a strike from the mummy and countering with a kick to the back of its head.

“I didn’t know this was so weak!” you exclaim back, moving away from the pile of rubble you made. “Agh, crap, crap, crap!”

“Well now what?” Zarid asks as he and Sachie smash their fists into the skeletal soldiers with all their might, knocking them in half.

Looking at the torn out chunk of ceiling you made, it looks like Sachie gets an idea. Without skipping a beat, she flips away from the crumbling skeleton and climbs up the pile of rubble, poking her head up. “...There’s still a good chunk of this floor intact. And... hey, I see some Capsules on the floor!” A brick where she’s at falls. “...Reeeally don’t know how much more this place could take though.”

Well, you’re on the right track.

You quickly put up some supports with the Clothes Beam before heading on with everyone else. Isn’t the best you could manage, but should keep stable as long as you intend to be here. “Sachie, can you tell if there’s another way up or down?”

“Lemme see...” She climbs out first, looking around. “...There’s a set of stairways, leading up... that seem to be partially collapsed.”

You wince just a little. Crap. “Do you sense anyone that way?”

“I... I think I do!” she exclaims. “...And we’ve got company!”

Zarid and Lime climb up after her, you taking up the rear, as you spot a good... 10... 12... oh boy that’s at least 15 mummies that are making their way forward. You get an idea, forming a Spirit Bit, mixing it with some Shadow Magic, and let it float on its own as you ready yourself for a fight. Sachie and Zarid though grab the Capsules, looking through them, and then tossing them at the shambling hordes of mummies.

And out pops two cars, smashing into them and blocking the doorways temporarily. And... aha! Your Spirit Bit is drawn towards... the stairway. “...I think I know what’s up ahead.” you comment ominously. “The Pharaoh is up there.”

“...And I don’t hink he’s alone.” Lime adds. “Can’t you sense it? It’s faint, but it’s there. At least two people.”

You begin to march forward. “Then we’ll confront him and get these people to safety. Gohan should be back soon to take him down.” Everyone follows after, the hordes of mummies trying to push the vehicles out of the doorway. Mmh... the stairway is collapsed, but you see an opening. You start to head up, the place getting darker as you do. Sachie and Zarid grab hold of Lime as she flies up after you. You move forward... and forward... and forward...

...

Wait what the heck? The pyramid isn’t THIS tall!

“Everyone, close your eyes!” you call out, bringing your hands to your face. “SOLAR FLARE!”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrIAk1E8Z_o

A blinding flash casts out illusion. You find yourself floating in midair in a room lit by torchlight... no, those aren’t torches. They’re... strange, magical lights sticking to the sides of the wall. And in the middle, you see a boy. One with spiky white hair, a blue jacket with short sleeves and a black T-shirt underneath, blue denim pants and red and white sneakers, twirling a red and white baseball cap on his finger, his arm... resting on a strange, ornate, and yet ominous headdress. And... around him, a dark aura seeps menacingly out of him. In the corner of the room you see an unconscious older man in a brown jacket... definitely one of the researchers.

“Well well well.” the boy speaks... but his voice is strange, deep, menacing. “Impressive that you were able to get out of that trick of the mind. You may not be the fools I took you for when you entered the-”

“Found ‘em! Let’s get these two out of here!” Sachie yells out, rushing over to the unconscious researcher. “Hey kid, come on, let’s get going!”

He blinks, then glares at her, his eye twitching. “...You have little in the way of manners, girl.”

“...Who you calling gi-WOAH!” The boy raises his hand, and a dark aura surrounds her, a brief flash of red in her eyes. She slouches her shoulders.

“SACHIE!” Zarid calls out. “What did you do to her?!”

“A simple mind like hers is easy to deceive. Though I must admit, you-” The boy points his finger right at you. “-yes you, seem to be a clever one, figuring out my illusion.” He pats the headdress. “You came here for the boy and the fool of a man who awakened me, yes?”

“That’s the plan... Pharaoh Totenhotep.” you address him, the boy’s face twisting into a malicious smile. “I take it you’ve complicated the matter.”

“See, my old self was in no condition to bring about my thousand year reign, and that man there was just such a bad fit... but this boy, now he’s a keeper.”

“Great. Mind controlling mummy parasites.” Lime remarks. “...Your headdress looks rather vulnerable, though.”

“I wouldn’t do that, if I were you. This boy’s body, and his mind especially, is fragile. Who knows what could happen if you threaten the one in control of it.” His other hand pokes at his forehead.

You motion to Zarid to head over to Sachie, then start to make your way to the Pharaoh in the boy’s body. “Oh great and mighty Pharaoh, how willing are you to bet on that? Sure enough to bet it on a game of wits?”

He begins to laugh. “You ARE an amusing one. Managing to cast down my daemon, managing to break my illusions, and now challenging me to a game of the minds? Foolishness and bravery truly do go hand in hand.”

“I wouldn’t quite say that. Bravery means putting yourself at risk, but only when you know you can make a difference.” You smirk, and point your thumb at yourself. “And me? I know I can make a difference here.”

“You have much confidence in your mind’s strength.” He lifts the headdress up and places it on his head, a light erupting from it. “But how strong is your mind truly, when the shadows take hold of it? And what of these friends you brought along?”

Black, shadowy mist starts to fill the room, Zarid managing to pull Sachie and the researcher into your barrier just in time. And... to the surprise of everyone, Sachie actually seems to wake from the stupor the Pharaoh put her in. “Oof... wow, glad my dad taught me those genjutsu skills, or else that’d have put me out for the count.” she grumbles.

“Hmnh. You may be more skilled than I gave you credit for. But it matters little.” The mist becomes an almost rain-like torrent, still thankfully not making it through your barrier. Ugh... yeah, there’s no mistaking it. This is something like the Black Water Mist. It then... seems to dissipate, only to reveal a shadowy realm having taken place. Between you both, ornate tiles appear from the shadows, three rows of 10. Five black pieces and five white pieces appear around it.

“I must warn you, little girl. In this game of wit, the winner is the blessed of the gods.” He grins devilishly at you. “And never once in my life have I lost a game.”

Confidently, you reply, “Well, you’re not really alive now, are you? Just a phantom that woke up on the wrong side of the afterlife. We’ll be the ones to save the boy you took control of, stop your stupid prophecy, and put you back where you belong!”

“The rules of the game are simple enough, even a child like yourself could understand them.” the Pharaoh possessing the boy declares. Four flat sticks, one side painted white and the other painted black, seem to appear in his hands. “The objective is to get all five of your pieces from one side of the board to the other. Toss these sticks in the air to determine how you will move. If you have three black sides and one white side, you can move one house and toss again. Two white and two black, move two houses and end your turn. Three white, one black, move three houses and end your turn. Four white, move four and toss again. Four black, move five and toss again. Only one piece can occupy a house at a time. Four spaces exist where you may remove a piece from the board.” They light up with an ominous purple glow, four different designs showing on the tiles, clustered near the end. “If you manage to move your piece to where one of mine is, you can capture that house and move my piece back to where yours was. However, if two pieces of the same color are side by side, you cannot occopy either.”

“It does sound simple.” you remark.

“Why sticks though? Wouldn’t like, coins be simpler?” Lime asks, unimpressed, scooting closer to you and asking further, quieter, “Are you really going to go along with this? This smells like something he’s going to bet your soul on or something stupid like that.”

You look back at Lime and grin, then telepathically tell her and everyone else, ‘I’m gonna do what I can to stall until Gohan gets back and we can put this spirit to rest for good. But beyond that...’ You declare, aloud, “I’m gonna save this kid, no matter what!”

“You certainly have spirit, little girl. But spirit alone won’t be able to best me. I have never lost a game.” he replies in a chuckle.

“So what’s the wager? I win, you leave that kid alone? But you win, there gonna be some kind of penalty to this game of mind and shadows?”

“It is a simple one, really. I win... and my spirit will claim your body instead! Hahahahha!” He tosses the sticks in your direction. “I believe that is a fair trade.”

You gather up the sticks, looking them over. “Heh, shame you’re doing this for such nefarious purposes. Games like this aren’t played here anymore. In fact I think this’ll be the first proper one in... well, however many thousand years it’s been since you became a mummy. From how you describe it, it seems a bit like backgammon... wonder if there’s a connection there. Hmm... hey, Izzy, your phone can record things, right?”

“...Y-yes?” she replies hesitantly. “Why do you-”

“Perfect! Maybe we can preserve this, so its rules aren’t lost to time again.” You’re stalling, just a little. But you’re also genuinely curious about this. “So, are there any variants to this or-”

“I would ask you get on with this.” the Pharaoh requests. “Lest you wish to see this boy hurt.”

“Fine, fine. No cheating, then.” You take the sticks, your piece, a black one at the far right corner from your point of view, lighting up as you do. Nifty trick there. Well, here it goes!

You toss the sticks into the air, with them coming up... three white, one black. Your piece moves on its own into the second row, stopping at the third square.

“Not bad, not bad.” The sticks are drawn towards the Pharaoh once more. “And so, it is my turn...” He tosses the sticks into the air, with them coming up even white and black. The white piece magically moves from the second to last place on the third row to the first on the second row. “And now the real fun begins. Depending on your next roll, will you try to march on ahead, or advance another piece forward? The choice is yours, little girl.”

“So what do you gain from this, exactly?” Sachie asks, the sticks tossed over to you. “You get a new body, a new shot at life, and then what? Enjoy the sights, try new foods, dance on the graves of your enemies, what?”

He chuckles menacingly. “All excellent suggestions. But no, the prophecy has much higher ambitions in place for me. Though I must say, I am still surprised you managed to break free from my power.”

“Sounds dumb. You should at least do some shopping first.” Sachie retorts, sticking her tongue out at him. “And your dumb illusions caught me off-guard, is all. Dad made sure I’d be ready for any of those kinds of tricks.”

You grin at Sachie, tossing the sticks into the air. “After we get out of here, mind showing me some of that? It seems like it’d be really useful in a pinch.”

“Sure! To... be completely honest, first time I ever had to use it seriously, haha. But hey it worked.” She rubs the back of her neck bashfully.

“What... would have happened if you failed?” Zarid questions, squinting at her.

“Probably woulda’ been stuck like that for... who knows how long. Lucky I wasn’t!” she replies cheerfully.

Zarid tilts his head and slouches his shoulders. “...Not giving me a lot of confidence here.”

“If it works, it works.”

Three black, one white. Hey, just your luck! Hmm... moving the second one forward one space, and you get to try again. The Pharaoh chuckles. You don’t like that. “She does raise a point, what exactly is your deal with this stupid ‘prophecy’ of yours?”

“I have risen from my ancient slumber, and now I will reign for a thousand years, able to call forth my powers against the feeble minds of those who have awakened me, feeding the flesh of those who oppose me to the children of-!” His voice changes into an almost demonic sound as he... pronounces the name of that demon you fought.

“...And you bet all that on this game?” Lime questions critically. “You... kind of a dumbass.”

“I merely amuse myself watching weaklings delay the inevitable. Soon I will have a body capable enough to grow, beyond even my original abilities.”

You... start laughing. “Hahahaha, haa, hoo, you’re a riot. And now I have even more reason to take you down.” You roll again... and luck strikes once more! The smirk on the Pharaoh’s face begins to fade as he realizes that you’ve very quickly gotten the hang of this game. You stop once you’ve got two pieces side by side ahead of the one he’s moved. Confidently, you ask, “You can end your turn if you wish, yeah? Offer to pass?”

“...Izzy that sounds like a bad idea.” Lime comments, phone still recording the match.

“Wait... no. No it’s not Look at the board.” Zarid states. “She’s sealed him off pretty well with now! He’ll need to get really lucky to be able to get ahead now!”

“Woohoo! Nice job outsmarting that bandage brain!” Sachie praises.

Gritting his teeth, he grabs the sticks as you toss them back to him. “You certainly are a clever little girl. But more importantly, you’re lucky. Let’s see how long that luck will last.” He tosses the sticks into the air... and while he gets 3 blacks and 1 white, meaning he can go again, he can only move one space forward! “Hmm... yes, this will do nicely.” He then moves... the last piece forward, sending your last one to the back. He tosses the sticks again... same result. He moves your second to last piece back as he moves his own second to last piece forward. And one more time... uh-oh. Same result.

“Wait a second...” you remark. “Are you-?”

“I see that you caught on! Now two of your pieces are trapped at the back, just as you trapped mine from these rolls! You will have no choice but to press forward. Even if some of your pieces end off the board, these last two will be dead last, unless you are exceptionally lucky. Are you willing to take that risk?”

“But if neither of us are willing to press forward, you’ve set yourself up in a stalemate, haven’t you, Pharaoh Totenhotep?” You cross your arms confidently, declaring, “And you can’t afford that.” Telepathically, you call out, ‘Come on Gohan, how much longer?’

‘Baba directed me to take a detour! Almost there!’

His eye twitches and you feel a dark Ki grow stronger around him. He gives another toss. Still can only move his piece forward one space. And one more... you feel something ominous. Like he’s going to call your bluff with this. They fall down... all white. Crap. He managed to move ahead! “So much for your attempt to block my advance. And just my luck! I avoided the penalty house too!”

“Penalty house?” you repeat. The space... right ahead of his piece. Ah. Of course.

He shrugs his arms. “Ah, so you didn’t figure it out just yet. If one of your pieces end up there, they will remain stuck until your toss results in a white and three blacks. I was hoping to keep it a surprise, but-”

“Wait a sec!” Sachie calls out. “I saw that! You CHEATED!”

“What do you mean he cheated?” Lime asks.

Arms crossed and a harsh, almost pouting glare on her face, Sachie asks, “Is that how you managed to remain undefeated, bandage brain? You used something to manipulate the sticks!”

“What on Earth are you talking about?” the Pharaoh questions, tone heavy.

“Felt it right as you tossed the sticks into the air! It was just like what you did to try and trap my mind in your illusions!” She points at him accusingly. “You’re using this magical mist stuff to manipulate your results.”

Resting his chin in his palm, he remarks, “It’s rude to make such accusations without any proof, you brat.”

“Okay. Then let’s try this for proof.” Gohan’s voice calls out. “BANSHO FAN!” The shadowy realm made of mist parts, revealing that... they didn’t end up all white! It’s a mix of white and black, two each! HE CHEATED! Your cousin smirks as he turns to you all. “Hey cous. Sorry I’m late, had to borrow this from your mom.”

Cheering, you throw your hands into the air. “Haha, of course! You came just in time.”

“That’s not all. Got something to put this guy to rest for good!” Your cousin tries to reach into his pocket.

Totenhotep sighs. “You want to do this the hard way, then.” Just as readily as it was cast away by the Bansho Fan, the shadowy realm returns... and Gohan disappears right into it!

“What did you do to him?!” Zarid yells at the Pharaoh.

“He will not bother us. Interruptions like that are quite rude. Now where-?”

“...eard... at!...” Gohan’s voice can be heard again. Wait... he used the Bansho fan before, and it was able to push away the darkness. Maybe Totenhotep knows this, and is doing everything he can to keep Gohan away. But with what limited power he has, he probably needs considerable effort in order to trick him like this. And it clearly isn’t perfect.

Sachie nods, Zarid and Lime looking around. “Well, we’re low on options.” the boy comments. “Let’s do this.”

That’s the real test of minds you’ve been putting us through.” Focusing your Ki around the shadows, recalling how the Gravity Blow works... and using that to try and push the darkness away!

“You assume much. You have skills, for sure, but do you really think you... you...” Totenhotep’s smug look fades slowly. The shadows begin to part from the area around you. “What... what is this?”

And... your cousin’s voice becomes clearer. “Izzy...? Where...?”

“SACHIE, ZARID, GET TO GOHAN!” you shout, bringing your other hand in the direction of Gohan’s voice. The shadows begin to part in his direction, and the two of them manage to rush through. A figure can be seen some distance away... they’ve got him!

“You, a mere child, believe you have what it takes to control this realm of shadows?!” the Pharaoh calls out angrily. “You presume too much! But you have shown yourself to be a worthy new vessel... I think it’s time we end this game!” He leaps to his feet, a dark aura surrounding him. “All of you will fall before me!”

A shadowy blast of Magic is thrust towards you, with you doing what you can to hold it back. Lime stands behind you, but Zarid and Sachie brace themselves and try to push forward, both of them gripping the... Bansho Fan? Wait, where’s Gohan? “Together?”

“Together!” your cousin yells forth. They lift the fan up and clear a path bewteen you all and the Pharaoh, Gohan rushing in at lightning speed. He gets up close, pulling something from his pocket... some sort of scarab amulet? “Here’s something from an old acquaintance of yours!” Gohan then... shouts some strange words you can’t even begin to comprehend and places the scarab on the headdress.

“NOOOOOOOOOO!” You feel the dark presence leave the boy’s body, funneling out of it and into the sarcophagus. The boy slumps over, unconscious, Gohan grabbing him and pulling him to safety.

“We did it!” Sachie shouts.

“...yyyyoooouuuuu...” an ominous, disturbing call comes from the sarcophagus. A bandage-wrapped hand lifts out of it, and slowly, the Pharaoh rises. “Yyyyoooouuu...!” He points his finger at you, you directly, then at Gohan. He lets out an inhuman screech. “Daaaarrrkknnnesss... wwwwiiillll cccooonnnsssuuuummmee yyyyoooouuuu!”

...You’re still holding a good chunk of that shadowy realm at bay. But maybe...

“Everyone, I’m gonna end this! Make way!” you call out, your Ki, your Magic, all your power taking hold of the darkness gathered in the area, and then condensing it like you do for the Gravity Blow.

“Sachie, let’s get these people out of here!” Zarid shouts, picking up the unconscious professor as she gets the boy with Lime’s help, but you also see Lime scoop something else up too.

“YYYYOOOOUUUU!” the mummy howls, shambling closer, raising a sword.

https://youtu.be/uLVLpisk7Qo

“Sorry pal, you’ve lost! Outsmarted, outplayed, outskilled! Have fun back on the other side, because it seems like karma’s finally catching up with you! Prophecy’s been broken, and you’re through! HhhrrrRRRAAAAAAAAAHHH!” You launch the sphere of darkness at him, trapping him inside it. It twists and swirls and pulls at the mummy’s body. Distorted moaning can be heard echoing through it... not just the Pharaoh’s, though. In a strange language incomprehensible to your ears, you hear things shouting at the mummy... sounds like they’re accusing him of something. And all around him... you see, you feel the pyramid shake, start to crumble.

“Izzy, he’s trapped in there, but it’s going to start taking the whole place down!” Gohan tells you.

You feel... a pulse of something. A pulse you’ve felt before. You start to understand something, something deeper. The magic in the air... you can feel it all around you. There’s a flash of pink in your aura as you let out a burst of power, energy streaming at the sphere, white like lightning as it smashes into the Pharaoh. The shadowy orb around him shrinks, then explodes in a brilliant flash. When it’s over... there’s nothing left, just crumbling remains of the pyramid. He’s been destroyed completely, obliterated.

You get out of the pyramid just as it collapses into a pile of rubble. Returning to the researchers, Lime explains all that happened in there, from the monsters you’ve faced to the spirit of Totenhotep taking control of the boy. While saddened the lead researcher admits, “It is better that we make it out of here with our lives than risk something like that being unleashed on the world. Still, a shame we were unable to properly look into the connection between that headdress and the dark powers he displayed.”

Lime grins. “You mean this?” She opens up a Capsule, revealing...

“You snuck off with that thing at the last minute?!” Gohan exclaims as it lands on the table. “Lime, the heck?!”

“Hey, Pharaoh’s in the dirt for good, artifact’s been recovered, and none of us are sensing anything too ominous from it, right?” She places her hands behind her head casually.

“Ah well, it’s in your hands now, Royal Academy of Science. I’m just glad we could help save the day.” You dust your hands off, looking over to the kid. Seems he’s still out cold, but he looks like he won’t be in any danger. “Might be worth getting them checked in with a doctor or something, though, just to make sure there are no side effects.”

“Hmnh.” Gohan crosses his arms as he sees the researchers look over the headdress. “Could also check with Baba.”

“I’m sure she’d tell us if she needed to. Still, day’s been saved! Mummy’s curse: broken!”

“YEAH!” Sachie thrusts her fist into the air, dancing a little with excitement. “Wow that was awesome! We kicked some serious butt! Aaaaahhh! This was the best!” She’s almost bouncing with energy and enthusiasm.

“Heh, is she... always like this?” Gohan questions Zarid.

“You should see what she does when she’s the one to save the day, haha.” the older boy replies with a chuckle.

“I did capture most of that game he challenged you to on my phone.” Lime comments, taking it out. “...Are you sure this is really all there is to it? He’s been destroyed, the monster’s buried under the rubble?”

“Well, it’s probably enough for today.” Sachie tells her. “If there is anything else, it’ll think twice before popping its head out again. What’s say we get some showers in to get all the mummy stank off and go on a little shopping trip?” She makes a V-sign, then starts to fan herself. “Uuugh. And get out of this dry heat especially. Reminds me of how your place used to be, Zarid.”

The boy gives her an oddly appreciative smile. “Yeah. A trip back to the city would be good.”

“Now THAT sounds like a plan!” you exclaim. “Ahhh, it’s been way too long since I went on a proper shopping trip~!”

“Woohoo!” Sachie thrusts both arms into the air. “We’ve gotta hit all the best spots. Izzy, I’ll be counting on you!”

Giggling excitedly, you nod your head. “Though after we’re done, I wanna talk about that thing you did to break free of the Pharaoh’s illusion thing.”

“Fair trade there, heehee~!”

“Aaaand we’ll probably be off doing something on our own.” Gohan states, looking to Zarid.

“Nice save.” he wispers.

“Oh, but before we head off, Lime, your phone’s recording!” you walk over to her. “The researchers here might appreciate a look at it.”

She blinks, then gets a wide... and almost suspicious grin on her face. She hurries over to the researchers. And telling them what she recorded, they’re astounded and overjoyed. “This... this is Senet! Genuine Senet! This could revolutionize our understanding of the ancient game! Oh this is wonderful!”

“Heh, you can thank Izzy here for that. She was the only one brave and crazy enough to challenge the mummy to the game. And she even aced him at it, so badly he had to cheat.”

“Astounding! Absolutely astounding!” Dr. Challenger looks around at his colleagues, them huddling together for a moment. After some discussion, they head back to the table. “In light of this, I believe it is only fair we give a bit of credit to you all... along with some initial compensation, for what you did both for our research and to save the lives of those involved in it.” He writes out a number of checks, handing one to each of you. Checks for... woah, nice! 50,000 Zenni!

“Don’t spend it all in one place now.”

All right folks, that's all for tonight. We’ll continue tomorrow starting ~5:30 pm PST. I’ll be around for a bit tomorrow for some questions if y’all have any. Did y’all have fun?
>>
>>3455620
At times having fun with this quest is difficult for me, but this thread is very enjoyable! This adventure was a nice change of pace from conspiracies and mysteries. Speaking of, I wonder who built that pyramid?
>>
>>3455620
Good times Kato. Good payoff for being generous to the researchers, and I'm looking forward to magical transformations.
>>
>>3455620
Score! Spending money! And yeah, had fun tonight. Neat that Izzy is slowly developing her magical girl powers.
>>
>>3455635
>>3455643
Was it good to get a payoff from the researchers tho? Even if the tomb's owner was a massive douchebag, this was still disturbing a hallowed place for little other than curiosity and greed. The tomb itself is destroyed as well, as well as any unique technology like laser beams, with only some Backgammon and a hat to show for the loss of a relic. The demons and sentries out to eat us served the same purpose as a guard dog, a threat to keep us out or a punishment to those who venture further. These scientists shouldn't have disturbed this place, and I don't think we should take their money. Plus, Izumi already has spending money from her Dad under the table.
>>
>>3455626
>>3455635
>>3455643
Glad y'all had fun!

Now, going forward, something that y'all should probably keep in mind: Izumi is still a long ways away from developing a proper transformation using this, but along the way there will be certain parts of it that you can begin to customize, such as aura. How you'll be able to do it will be made clear when we get there, but it's something to keep in mind.

So the emotion of love as shown by Universe 2's team can be used to fuel this new form like the feelings of tranquility fuels Kaioken, and the desire to protect fuels Rao-Ten and Kaio-ten.

I wonder what other positive emotions influences other types of powers. Would the concept of creating a patronus apply? Using a positive happy memory through magic create an effect?

“So they started panicking because they saw that birthmark on your butt?” you ask Sachie, trying your best not to laugh. Ahhh that was a good shower, got the dust and that hint of mummy stank off you. And hearing Sachie recount how she and Zarid met is kinda neat.

“Serves them right for looking up a girl’s skirt.” she replies, drying her hair off. “Still, did end up saving us some grief. Decided to leave it instead of go along with the aliens’ catalog thing. Helped Zarid’s village out instead. Felt like the right thing to do.”

“Wow, just like that, no second thoughts?” Lime questions, getting out a capsule case for a fresh change of clothes.

She shrugs. “I was gonna be late for dinner. And Zarid’s village needed the help.”

And you can’t hold back the giggle now. “Heeheehee. So, you two just started going on some more adventures after that?”

“On and off. Ah but enough about him!” She gets some fresh clothes out herself, a more casual but fancy skirt and shirt, and some cutesy sunglasses. “We’re gonna hit the malls, aren’t we?”

“Izumi?” your mom’s voice calls out to you from another room. “If you’re going out, can you help get a few things for us? Your father’s still busy with his student.”

“Sure mom! How many things you need?”

“I’ll get the list.” your mother replies.

“Doing errands for your parents while going on our shopping trip? Sure that’s the best idea?” Lime asks.

“It’ll be fiiiine!” you reply cheerfully. “Anyway, Sachie! Are there any things you’re looking to get? Because certain places have better shopping districts than others, depending on what you want.”

“Hmmm... you know, some new things of makeup would be nice. Ooh, perfume too! Aaaand hmm... hmm... I what places have some good sneakers? Oh! And...” You chuckle softly, Sachie rubbing the back of her neck bashfully. “Uh, too much?”

“No, but if we wanna hit all those places at a reasonable time, we’re gonna need to head off soon. Thankfully there’s a mall in West City that has a lot of them within spitting distance.”

“Yyyyyeeeesss!~” She seems absolutely giddy now. Her enthusiasm honestly seems a little infectious at this point.

But before you head off, mom shows up with a sheet of paper... oh. Oh wow both sides are covered. “Thank you, Izzy. I’d ask Acer but I think he’s trying to help Monty with something rather important. His mind’s been a bit clouded recently.”

You take the paper. Let’s see... yeesh. You’re gonna need two capsules for all of this, minimum. Some of it’s produce, too, so you’ll need to be careful with it. Ah well. “I’ll get these back to you in no time, mom.”

“Thank you. And good work earlier, though you sure everything’s okay? No ominous lingering thoughts or anything? Nothing we should start looking into?”

You wave your hand. “Nah, we’re good! Be back later, mom! Take care!”

“Okay, have fun Izzy! You girls take care too!”

And so you head off, Sachie holding on to you as you and Lime fly towards West City. Lime still looks at the list uneasily. “Uhhh... you sure this is a good idea? Like, don’t mean to be rude or anything, but that looks like a lot.”

“I’ll manage. Hah, you should see the grocery list my aunt Maple has. It’s sometimes as long as she is tall!”

“Not really saying much there.” Lime adds, sticking her tongue out teasingly.

“Point is, I’ll get some things that won’t spoil first, then we can continue on our shopping trip!” You accelerate, Sachie holding on tighter but yelling excitedly as you fly.

Arriving at a mall, you make a B-line to the supermarket there, moving as quickly and skillfully as you can around it as you gather up various items on mom’s list, Lime and Sachie sitting in the food court while they wait. Let’s see... packs of toilet paper, dino treats, fireworks... wow, a lot of fireworks. Hmm, cans of bug spray, sunscreen, and a few beach supplies, and that about covers it! You get the items through and put that all on the family card, and you’re good to go! Now just gotta make sure you don’t lose the Capsules they’re in.

“Sorry for the delay! Now, we’ve got three stops to hit, pronto! Plan of attack here!” You bring them both to the mall directory. “Closest shop is Starlights, a cosmetics and beauty store. Nearby is the best perfume shop in all of West City, Sarsaparilla’s Scents. From there, we can probably manage one more place.”

“Eeeee!~ There’s a nail salon!” Sachie points out. “Okay, okay, plan of attack!”

“Clearly we do that last.” Lime comments. “No leaving polish everywhere and wasting money like that.”

Sachie taps her chin. “So... perfume or cosmetics?”

“Let’s see... Cosmetics might be a good idea, but I wanna check the crowds there.” You focus ahead, sensing how many people. Looks like the Cosmetics area might be a bit too crowded. Welp, new plan! “Buuut the Perfume shop’s a bit less crowded. Let’s head that way!”

“WOOOO!” Sachie cheers as you lead the way. As you march forward, you see that it’s no wonder Starlights is so busy. They’re having a promotional sale, and looks like a few actors are there to promote it. As you try to move past the crowds, you end up caught up between a few folks trying to move past, bumping through them. Even Lime ends up getting caught in it too. The two of you get a little fed up with it, leaping up over the crowd.

Sachie meanwhile seems to scoot by carefully, finally reaching the two of you once more. She looks back curiously, but shakes her head. “Eh, just my imagination.”

“What’s up?”

“Thought I saw someone acting weird. Probably nothing!”

Lime laughs. “It’s a mall. I’d more worried if there weren’t a few weirdos running around. That’d mean they’re plotting something.”

“No it wouldn’t.” you tell her bluntly.

“Weeeiiiirrrdddooosss~!” Sachie repeats, waving her fingers. “Yeah, guess you’re right.”

She looks back one more time, squinting as she does, but finally enters with you and Lime. Inside you find a nice selection of perfumes, seeing several that catch your eyes. After going through some and trying them out, you all pick out some you end up liking the most. Sachie finds a sandalwood and peach scented one, Lime a citrus and blossom, while you get one that’s labeled “Morning Spring,” and it smells great! Like rainforest and spring flowers and just a hint of lilac!

Of course, your little endeavor hits a snag. “That’s... but...” Lime searches around her pockets. “Oh come on, they don’t have a hole in them! These are the only ones with actual pockets I could find! Where’s... agh! I had my wallet, I swear?”

“...Did you leave it at my place?” you question.

“No, no, Sachie and I got some tea while we waited for you!”

Nervously, you search your pockets too. Okay! Your wallet’s still there, and-

...

OH NO. YOUR CAPSULES!

“Pickpockets!” you exclaim.

Sachie smacks her forehead. “Dang it, and I let them get away, didn’t I? Those people who were acting suspiciously, must have been them!”

>A. Sachie, give me every detail you remember!

“Sachie, give me every detail you can remember! I’ve got a plan but I need faces to put to this!” You start sensing out anyone acting suspiciously, moving in strange patterns. Lime puts the perfumes back as she moves up with you both. Hmm... getting something.

“Uhhh, let’s see, two people. One man with long hair, tall and skinny, and another that looked like a girl, maybe closer to our age... uhhh...” She rubs her temples. “Let’s see, let’s see... guy was in a kinda heavy coat, and girl... umm... kinda a raggy outfit, looked worn and old.”

You notice two people start moving quickly. “Might be them! Let’s go!”

The three of you run off, you and Sachie leaping onto a rooftop as Lime starts to fly up. “Heh heh, when Peppa gets back, I’m going to have to thank her a thousand times for helping me learn this!”

“You know, I coulda’ taught you it.” you mention, keeping track of the figures. They slow down slightly.

“You could. Didn’t.” Lime sticks her tongue out at you.

“I see them!” Sachie calls out. They’re moving through to a crowd and- ...wait a second. Is that Cocoa? She’s with a couple of her friends, showing them something on her phone. She seems to notice you, giving a quizzical look. You point behind her, and the two people coming closer seem to turn away.

They start to move quickly again, running faster. You see an alleyway you can corner them in, and fly at them at top speed. Landing in front of the two, you cross your arms and glare. “Hand ‘em back.”

“Hand what back, little girl?” the man asks, trying to keep his cool. His hand starts to move to his pocket. You see the girl do the same.

“HIYAH!” Sachie yells out, knocking the man down.

“GIVE ME BACK MY WALLET!” Lime yells, tackling the girl to the ground.

Out of their pockets roll several capsules, some change, and even... two flashbangs. “Aaagh! Dang it bro, this is all your fault! Why’d ya get greedy?! We coulda’ made off with plenty, but nooooo!”

“Ahh shaddup.” he grumbles, glaring at you. “Grrrhhh, dang you, kid!”

Scooping up your Capsules, and Lime getting her wallet back, you manage to call mall security on them and get them out of here. Whew. “Man, mom woulda’ gotten really upset if I lost these.”

“Is a lot of cash down the drain if we weren’t quick enough. Why’d they slow down like that?”

Looking over to Cocoa and her friends, you smile. “Like she said. They got greedy. And greed’s a gamble that’s rarely worth it.”

>Twitter account is @KatoQm, will have status updates there
>Got some questions for the QM? Suggestions? Throw them at ask.fm/QMKato and I'll try to answer them as best I can

All right folks, that's all for tonight. We’ll continue tomorrow starting ~5:30 pm PST. I’ll be around for a bit tomorrow for some questions if y’all have any. Did y’all have fun?
>>
>>3457306
Why is Cocoa in West City? Isn't it on the other side of the planet from her if she goes to Orange Star High?
>>
https://youtu.be/2NOdkMRniig
>>
>>3457307
Wait a minute, where are we? If we left from Mt. Frypan to the nearest shopping place, maybe we're in Orange Star City after all?
>>
>>3457313
That's wrong, Cocoa goes to class with Gohan in canon, and alterations to canon here haven't affected that.
>>
>>3457314
>>3457317
And filtering this ID too.
You actively make this quest less fun for everyone involved. Yourself included. Just hope you're aware.
>>
>>3457322
Peppa's speech to Vegeta, her telepathy block, got that Ultimate in too. Change IDs all you want, they're all going to be filtered, and at some point I hope Kato ignores you completely.
>>
>>3457327
Also, suggest some baddies to Kato, she's pretty receptive to ideas if you've thought them out, but that might be hard for you.
>>
I swear if I have to read through another round of this bullshit tomorrow...
>>
>>3457329
Everyone is having fun here but you. There's an easy fix to that.
>>
>>3457332
Who said you have to read it? Are you a mod?

>>3457333
Samefag? How could you even suggest such a thing?
>>
Quick note that "complaining about quest progression" is reportable
>>
>>3457333
Honestly, I wish you wouldn't have that mindset of blocking me off. I do a lot of things for y'all, I want things to be fair, and I insist on what I think is right. Everyone is having fun here but me as intended because y'all don't like arguing even though it can be constructive. It rarely is with y'all because y'all don't argue constructively.

>>3457313
Pretending to be ignorant of details that have been mentioned several times before just for the sake of pestering Kato with your bullshit is exactly why people don't like you. Cocoa doesn't go to the same school as Peppa, Gohan, and Izzy. She lives in West City, near a movie studio, has her own school to go to and everything. Pay attention if you don't want people verbally smacking you upside the head.
See, you just called me dumb and insisted on something while not providing any actual evidence, and then filtered me when I claimed otherwise. That shows the argumentative capabilities of a child covering their ears and making loud noises.
>>
>>3457306
Time for Izzy to one up Peppa and teach Lime something cooler, like - uuuh clothes beam?

For a store owner that'd be very useful.

Okay, guys. Real talk here. I do my best to let everyone say their piece. I try to be as fair as I can with all this. I don't want y'all at each other's throats, but I also don't want a certain someone trying to intentionally piss off other players. I'm going to make this as clear as possible. I want everyone to have fun, and I also do this because it's fun for me too. But I have been dealing with a number of things IRL that I don't want to get into, so my time is limited, and so is my patience.

I read through things like this because I care about you guys, and I want to make sure I'm fair when I run the quest. I don't want to have to say this again: please don't waste my time, please don't test my patience. I don't want to call anyone out on this, but do not tempt me to.

That said, let's all have fun. Okay?
>>
>>3458806
Hope things get better for you Kato.

Tuffle Quest has become an important part of my life, and I appreciate the hard work you put into making this series. It's hard to make a good roleplay, that's consistent and compelling.

Apologies for adding onto your stress.

You could do that, though it'd take a while for her.

And okay, we are back!

“Man, lucky that you were able to show up, then.” Cocoa comments as all of you head towards Starlights, Lime happily looking over her new bottles of perfume, talking with the blonde girl with Cocoa. “Probably means I need to double down on my training with sensing Ki, though...”

“Hey, they were able to get me and Lime unaware too. No need to be upset over that.” you reply with a smile.

“Well, just goes to show y’ need reflexes like a ninja!~” Sachie states proudly, making a dorky pose.

Tapping your chin with your finger, you look at her. “That reminds me, earlier you were able to get yourself out of the Pharaoh’s illusion thing on your own. That IS a really neat trick. Still think we might be able to squeeze in a talk about that?”

“Sure! Probably!” she says happily. “Or maybe we could save it for tomorrow. I still wanna try out that Nimbus thing some more.”

You all take some time going through the shop, now that the crowd’s died down some, finding some new things of makeup that are absolutely perfect for you. Sachie takes to the nail polish like a fish to water, while Lime finds some eyeliner that fits her well. Cocoa seems to look over a few herself, but is indecisive, and a little nervous. “Mmhh...”

“What’s up?”

Blushing a little, her voice getting a bit quieter, she asks, “Um... was kinda hoping to surprise Peppa with a little gift for when she gets back. I know she’s got one she got for me, so it’s only fair, I think. Just... not really sure what’d fit best for her.”

>A. Eh, makeup might not be best, though something cute and small might be a good idea. Like a keychain, or cell charm

You grin, but keep any comments about their relationship to yourself. No need to embarrass her. Too much. “I’m sure she’ll like anything you get her, Cocoa. Though you do know she likes moles, yeah?”

“Hmmm... maybe, maybe...” She puts the makeup down.

“Peppa’s not really the type to get hung up about appearances. Sure she likes to look cute, but she’s also not gonna go out of her way to look like she belongs on a catwalk.” You place your hands behind your head. “Saw you showing off your cellphone earlier to your friends. Peppa sharing with you some neat alien scenery or anything? Any good vacation spots?”

“Well... there is something she did share. There was this thing she, Videl, and 19 fought on Brench...” Cocoa pulls out her cellphone and-

...

What the heck is THAT?! It’s a picture Peppa made of this... mechanical spider crab thing... spider crab snake?

“Waaaait a sec. This... this looks familiar.” You look closer. It’s got... quite a similar shape, in general, just... much more mechanical.

“Yeah I thought that too!” Cocoa exclaims a- wait what. “It’s just like the monster from-”

“DON’T SAY IT.” Lime demands, placing her hands on her ears. “LALALALA CAN’T HEAR YOU. LALALALA!”

Catching Sachie’s attention, the ninja schoolgirl looks over. “Oh huh. Looks like a Face-”

“LALALALALALAA.”

“No no, girls... it looks like that monster we faced earlier. That spider-snake thing. Spader. Just... kinda like Dr. Gero got at it.”

“...Spader.” Cocoa repeats.

“Was in the pyramid, over in Diablo Desert. The dig Lime signed up for.” you reply. “It looked kinda like that, but was the size of a bus. Some kind of... demon thing, even talked.”

Cocoa blinks, then immediately starts texting something. “Making sure Peppa knows this. And everyone else up there. You said it was from here, yeah?”

“I mean, it sounded like it was.” Giving her a comically serious look, you then tell Cocoa, “...If Peppa brings that back here as a pet, smack her upside the head for me.”

She giggles. “I think she knows better by now. It did go for a guy’s face, infected him with nanomachines, too. But in doing so they helped Giru recover a removal tool he had locked away in his fragmented memories.”

“Now that sounds useful.” You rub your chin as Cocoa sends the text. Hmm... well, there’s that.

>A. Hey, speaking of Giru, I wanna send him something, can I borrow that for a sec?
>B. Have you sent a copy to Bulma yet? Just in case?

“Have you sent a copy over to Bulma, just in case?” you question after getting the bits of makeup you wanted. Cute new lipstick, something that looks rather pretty but isn’t too bold and bright.

“Well yeah. I mean I didn’t, but Maple and Peppa did. Though given what you’ve shared with me, I think it might be a good idea to let her know about that too.” she replies. “Sounds like you guys had a rough time out there.”

“Rough is one way to put it.” Lime sighs out.

“Ah but Izzy beat that Pharaoh at his own game! She was so cool! He was losing so badly he even resorted to cheating!” Sachie exclaims, bouncing on her heels a little as she does.

You grin proudly. “Well, thanks for sharing this with us, Cocoa. Seems like this is something else we need to keep track of. Oh! Before I head off, one more thing. Can I borrow your phone real quick? Got something I wanted to share with Giru.”

She raises an eyebrow, then hesitantly does as you ask. You quickly type out a a search term and tell Peppa to send it to Giru (after assuring her that it’s you sending this, not Cocoa; no idea HOW she could tell it was you, but she could, maybe typing style? Eh whatever!). You wait a few seconds... a devious grin on your face.

And then you hand the phone back to Cocoa. Mission accomplished. You walk along and wait a few minutes. The girl squints at you, then at the phone. “...Sharing memes with an alien robot, huh?”

“Comedy is the cornerstone of Earth culture!” Cocoa flicks at your forehead. “Hey!”

“Peppa asked.” She shakes her head. “What even is that shirt? And why THAT song?”

“You see it has phenomenal powers! It’s three wolves-”

“No. No shut up.” Cocoa pleads. “Ugh, this song’s going to be stuck in my head again.”

Lime, Sachie, and Cocoa’s friends all giggle with you. Ahh, today was a good day. Even if there’s danger lurking ahead, you feel like you’re ready to take it on. And you’ve got some good friends backing you up along the way!

“Hmm... game... might not be a bad idea. I think I have a few she might want to try...” Cocoa taps her chin contemplatively. “Okay, yeah. I’ll do that. Thanks, Izzy.”

I legit don't really care that much about the votes on the archives. I prefer direct feedback, in the threads or otherwise. But if I'm putting my foot down on intentionally pissing off other players like he's done before. I'm not letting that slide.
>>
>>3474909
>But if I'm putting my foot down on intentionally pissing off other players like he's done before.
Is that a question?
>>
>>3474909
Y'know Kato, it's time you've acknowledged that your playerbase is kinda aggro. It takes two people to start a fight, and if your players were better people there wouldn't be fights at all. Most of the time, these fights start with me saying something I want to do or have a problem with, and then someone challenges me. We both (or more if people get riled up into having a go at me) escalate the discussion into accusations of the other's position on the spectrum, and then you come in like clockwork to blame it all on me because it's easier to point at one person than many.

You the most aggro person to ever participate in these threads. Every time I catch up with them I see you, not anyone else, as the one who starts inane shit and aggressively argues with other players. And what you're doing now is show that you are completely incapable of accepting that you are in the wrong, even though you're the one carrying out some petty revenge against Kato over her not catering to your relentless and childish demands. Manipulating thread scores? Are you so incapable of actually acting like an adult that you think this will get back at her? Grow your little bitch ass up.
>>
>>3475692
What's funny is that he is most of those scores, samefagging so they become gold. So he's basically undoing his own work and ultimately it amounts to nothing for anybody else.
>>
>>3475731
I... wow. That is legit one of the most moronic things I've ever heard. Is that why the strawpoll Kato posted has over 100 votes on it too?
>>
>>3475747
Yep. This quest is great, but it's not *that* popular. I feel like anything above 15 votes is him samefagging and that's being generous with the real votes.
>>
>>3475754
And here I thought we just had a bunch of lurkers or people like me who can't participate all that often. That is impressive, if utterly childish. No wonder he acts so needy.
>>
>>3475776
Truthfully I'm just doing what the other person has been doing but in the opposite direction. I did vote up the threads in the past, but only one vote, not to the extent that they are all 30+.

I wonder what that person thinks now that I've tarnished their golden boxes?
>>
>>3475868
I don't believe you cause otherwise that would mean we'd have two autism singularities and I don't think my brain could handle that.
>>
>>3475920
It's true! Yesterday, we fought over Thread 14 of Kai's score. It was at 30+ something, and when I pushed it back down to Zero, they voted it up again. There are 120 votes on that thing. They voted positively 60 times.

Who's to say the Strawpolls in the past haven't been manipulated by this, "Goldvoter" as well?
>>
>>3475868
>>3475929
Yeah I'm calling bullshit. You're the only one who seems to care about such a thing. You just got caught and are once again trying to play the victim.
>>
>>3475942
Or, I've uncovered a conspiracy and evidence of rigging strawpolls.
>>
>>3475945
By yourself. Last time I checked that poll before Kato yelled at you there were only 12 votes, and somehow 90 more just show up out of nowhere, Gohan getting most of them. Only conspiracy here is you trying to manipulate things to your liking.
>>
>>3475945
For instance, on Monday it was clear on the Strawpoll that Peppa was the obvious winner, with 11 votes to Gohan's 2. However, the next day Gohan had 10 votes sprung up overnight. That number slowly increased over Peppa's. Only like 13 people read this thing, so there was clear samefagging going on. I didn't want to lose tho, so I samefagged Peppa up as well.
>>
>>3475970
And then I thought it would be funny if 51% of 100 voters was up against 49% of 100 voters.

>>3475965
Why would I ever want to play as Gohan though?
>>
>>3475970
>>3475983
You're seriously going to keep up this victim act even though you were caught doing this? You're fucked in the head mate. We all know about how you want edgelord Gohan.
>>
>>3476026
Nah, the time for that has passed. I just don't see any future playing as that character.
>>
>>3476029
Do you think anyone actually believes you? You've done everything in your power already to lose people's trust. You're not doing this out of any sense of fairness, you started this because Kato yelled at you.

I think it's interesting you said that it happened "after (I) got proven wrong about the dice system." Coincidentally, the strawpoll fraud happened after Kato yelled at me. Someone could be using these arguments we have to do spicy stuff to harm my credibility.
>>
The only one hurting your credibility is you. Playing the victim here after the kind of tantrum you've been having is the only reason I'm even giving you any attention, because your behavior is frankly a little psychotic at this point.

Stop lying to everyone. Clean up your act. Grow the fuck up.

Y'know, I think you're protesting too much. You keep dismissing that "my" misdeeds could have been done by another party. Any particular reason?

>I would much rather act like a Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain than try to have reasoned out discussions with any of you, Kato included. No one cares what another person's reasons are, so having a discussion based on them is ultimately pointless because neither party gives a shit what the other thinks.

You want a screencap of that and the rest? Because they exist already.

Just because I've given up on being a decent person doesn't mean I should take credit for someone else's work.

>You're seriously only doing this because you're mad at her.

>Yup
>And you
>And the others
>Except Sword
>he's nice
>I can do anything
>I can even best all of you if I put my mind to it
>No amount of numbers will stop me
>All goes as I will

I'll say again, I have screencaps.

Okay, going forward, I'm fairly sure most of you know this already, but... poll manipulation? I trust most of you are mature enough to not try that. Don't give him any more attention. And please, please don't make me want to take a break from this. I'm dealing with enough shit already.

We'll be back with Peppa tomorrow. Hope to see y'all there.

I wouldn't trust any of them with a Strawpoll. They only raised a fuss about the scores on suptg when they were lowered, this shows that they don't truly detest fraud so long as it goes their way. Goldvoter exists and can manipulate Strawpolls in their favor.

Twitter polls are better, takes a bit more effort to make an account than a new IP address.

Though, we could put it to a vote!~

Don't be a fag about it, shit happens. It's how you choose to deal with it that matters.
