Last time, on Dragon Ball Tuffle Quest Kai! After some training, Videl and Peppa assisted the authorities in apprehending a group of shapeshifting troublemakers trying to ruin Cocoa’s school play! Izumi meanwhile received some training with Maple for her skills in Magic, and is beginning to tap into a new power. After some training with and a talk with Maple, Peppa goes to confront Monty to both let him down softly but encourage him to continue his training, then learning that Basilea possesses a Black Star Dragon Ball! Gohan meanwhile helps Pantea teach Tapion and Minotia the Kaio-ken, while getting some training in himself. Finally, after much studying, the kids have their Finals in school and Peppa finally gets to see the end result of Cocoa’s hard work... only to embarrass herself in an attempt to support Cocoa during it. But in spite of that, Peppa anc Cocoa finally talk through their feelings, growing closer as friends... and more. What new challenges await the trio of Tuffles? Good luck, Peppa! Good luck, Gohan! Good luck, Izzy!

“So, these are the planets we know Giru has data on.” Bulma states as she goes over the images on the screen. “Thanks to dad researching Babidi’s ship, we also should have a ship capable of reaching all of these within a reasonable timeframe. At least as quick as the Galactic Patrol ships, if not even better.” she adds proudly.

“How soon will it be ready?” mom asks her, hands behind her back as she looks over the planets.

“Finishing touches should be done within the week. We’ll be ready to blast off by then.”

Gohan rests his hands on his chin. “Spaceships are cool and all, but can’t you just use Instant Transmission or whatever to get where you want to go?”

“Some planets don’t have significant Ki signatures for one to lock on to.” mom explains. “Which is going to be even more of an issue after what we saw with Basilea...”

“That reminds me!” Bulma bolts over to her desk and gets out one of the Scouters she’s been working on. “Here we go. This bad boy’s got an extra wide-range search feature that should detect any Dragon Balls out there from orbit. Should be easy to adapt to it if you need to adjust your own, Maple.”

“Thanks a bunch, Bulma!” mom takes the Scouter and checks it out.

Those planets are interesting. You step forward for a closer look at them. Five main ones in total, with the first one being the planet Giru was originally found on, Imeka. Second is Brench, third being a strange, rocky, desolate world Bulma labeled “fake Brench”, fourth being an odd jungle planet named Monmaasu, and fifth being an Earth-like planet with two crossing rings around it, apparently... huh, Tarble’s planet? There are a few more out there, some that look like they’re in Galactic Patrol space, some that are under the control of the PTO, and one that’s labeled “unnaturally high gravity world.” ...Hmm. That sounds familiar.

You casually place your hands behind your head, tail swaying behind you. “So, who all has signed up for this little grand tour of the cosmos?”

“Well... that’s the thing.” Bulma taps her lips with her finger. “It’s planned for five people to live comfortably while in use, seven at most if needed, not counting Giru. So far, we have Maple, who’ll be piloting it, Raditz, who’s got some contacts with the Galactic Patrol we can rely on, and Pantea, who’s been helping me look into Giru’s systems.”

>A. And you can count me in on that too!
>B. Anyone that you think would be a boon to this mission, Bulma?
>C. Ask for details on some of these planets, like what Giru’s recovered memories say about them

“And you can count me in on it too!” you declare with a pump of your fist. “No way I’m letting an opportunity like this pass me by!”

Gohan gives you a skeptical look, but doesn’t make any additional comments beyond, “Well, if you’re that tight on space, I’ll stay here at home. With you and mom on the mission, sis, you’ve got two people who can teleport, so backup is a breeze for you.”

“I mean... I guess. You sure you don’t wanna come too, Gohan?”

He waves his hand. “I’m just being logical here. Five people can live comfortably in there, and now you’ve got four.”

Aww... but, well, that makes sense. “I guess... hmm, well, in that case, Bulma, is there anyone you think would be a boon to this mission, Bulma?”

https://youtu.be/zkPIc6k-UXU

“Potentially. With both Pantea and Maple on this team we’ve got people who can help with repairs on the fly, with Raditz on-board we’ve got someone else who knows some of these planets and is on pretty good terms with everyone, and you’re able to work really well with most everyone here. Someone else with good synergy with this team would be ideal. Maybe Chuu Lee, or Videl.”

“Oh! Wait, what about 19?” you ask. “Her, or even 16, could come along with us without needing to worry about things like air or food or whatever.”

Bulma raises her eyebrows in surprise, but nods in agreement. “You know, you’re right, Peppa. Could track her down and ask her some time soon.”

“Great!” you call out cheerfully. “Say, given that Giru’s the one whose given you info on these planets, what has his recovered memories told us about all of them?”

Bulma walks over to the screen, tapping on Imecka first. “Here is where we have the best information on where he’s been, and I’ve tracked the location to some distance outside the capital city. It will help with the investigation into his origins if we know how exactly he ended up on Imecka in the first place.” The second, Brench, shows images of certain buildings and, strangely, what look to be a couple scientists hunched over a table with some purple thing on it. “Here, his memories apparently are connected to some kind of machine he was familiar with. Not as much to go on, beyond him picking up traces from the battle with 13 all those years ago.”

“In addition to that, we were able to get a timestamp on WHEN Giru was on Brench.” mom adds. “Four years after we were last there. So that he could pick up those traces is something we really need to look into.”

The third planet. “This one apparently registered a familiar machine to Giru, and more importantly, said machine seemed to have Ki, like himself. Maple has a hunch on what it was, but we’d need to actually head there to confirm it.” And the fourth, showing pictures of giant insects, and in the distance, a giant humanoid. “While this one we know he visited thanks to the fact that Giru tried to eat a giant bottle.”

“...Wait what?”

Bulma shows you the pictures. It’s from Giru’s perspective, floating around a giant glass bottle, and then... trying, not very well, to eat it.“Turns out he does have limits on what he can consume. Anyway...” And the final one, Tarble’s planet. “Giru attempted to flee this place once he detected a Saiyan lifeform. But, we know at least one resident of the planet encountered him before he left...” And a picture of a blue alien that looks a bit like Tarble’s wife. “We can contact this person and see what they know about Giru.”

“So, there’s our mission plan. Investigate these planets, along with looking for any of the Black Star Dragon Balls.” mom states. “And we’ll be leaving by the end of the week.”

“Anything I should know about Basilea while we’re out there? Specifically, any worlds you know of that have significant amounts of negative energy. She might be trying to ambush us on some place, given that letter she sent me...”

“That Fake Brench planet seems the most suspicious to me.” mom replies. “But a few others catch my eye too. Specifically, this high-gravity world...” She points to it. “It’s where Vegeta and Nappa went to train before the Tournament. I get the feeling that there’s something off about it. I mean, aside from it having a surface gravity that makes absolutely no sense for a terrestrial world...”

“All right, so those places we’ll have to keep our tabs on. Got it.” You place two fingers on your forehead, contacting her first to let her know. “Gonna head out for a bit, think I better talk with Cocoa about this.”

You notice your brother give you a smug smirk, but say nothing. On the other hand, Maple gives you a wide, happy smile. “Okay Peppa. Contact if you need anything.”

“Later mom!” And you teleport away. You appear next to Cocoa, the girl laying on her bed with her DS in her hands. “Hey, got a minute?”

“Sure, just-AH!” Cocoa gasps and sits up. “PEPPA! PEPPA!” she shows you the screen excitedly. “SHINY!”

Shiny! SHINY! “Catch it! Catch it!” you respond with near-equal excitement.

“Haha~! GOTCHA!~” Cocoa lays back down, giggling. “Theeere we go. Anyway, what’s up?”

You sit at the foot of her bed, tail swaying behind you. “So... um. I’m gonna be going off-world by the end of the week. Trip to space for, well... bunch of things, really.”

The happy expression on her face fades a bit. “Why? What’s wrong?”

You laugh. “Oh, you know, the usual. Helping an alien robot with amnesia return home, trying to stop some nutso demon girl with a chip on her shoulder against me from causing more mischief, fighting space pirates.” Cocoa raises an eyebrow at that last one. “Okay, MAYBE not the space pirates. Think I had enough of those at the Tournament.”

“Gonna be gone for a while, then?” She closes the DS and sits up again.

“Well... ‘gone’ is relative. I can teleport, remember?” you stick your tongue out, tapping your fingers to your forhead. That eases her just a little. “Still, I will be a little busy for the next... however long it is. Hopefully we’ll be done before the end of summer, if not sooner. Just... you know. Going to be harder to really go back and forth.”

“Well... okay. That’ll be fine, I guess.” While her worries seem to have eased just a bit, you can tell there’s still some hesitation in her voice.

“Plus, I’ve got a way for us to keep in touch. Mom’s Scouters and the like work no matter how far apart they are. We can talk whenever we want.”

A soft smile appears on her face. “Yeah, sure. That’ll work... oh! Wait, better idea!” Cocoa almost leaps off her bed and heads to her desk, opening a drawer, pulling out... oh! Of course! “Peppa, do you think Bulma could get our goggles to have those functions? Maybe like, with them hooked up to our phones or something?”

Giggling, you tell her, “You’re a genius, Cocoa. I’ll ask her ASAP. Hmm... you know, in addition... well, maybe we could spend a day or two on some of those planets. So long as they’re safe, that is. And with your parents’ permission, of course...”

She thinks that idea over, then nods. “Yeah. Yeah, that sounds great! Thank you, Peppa.”

“No problem!”

You look over to her DS, chuckling a little. “So, straight back to catching ‘em all, huh?”

“You say that like you aren’t.” she teases, coming back to sit by you. “I... should probably save. Just in case.”

“Eheh heh, yeah, save...” your chuckles become nervous as you remember specifically not doing that. And losing the monster you captured. “So... still thinking about movies this summer?”

“Maybe. Oh! Actually...” She pokes her fingers together sheepishly after she closes her DS again. “Um... if you do manage to pass by it some time, would it be too much to ask if you take me to a certain planet? It’s... where they filmed that sci-fi movie, the first Earth movie filmed off-world.”

“Maaaaybe.” you reply with a giggle. “...Actually we should probably check with your parents about this before we get ahead of ourselves.”

“Thaaat’s probably for the best.” Cocoa atands up and heads our of her room with you.

“Say, since I’m still on-Earth for a few more days, anything you’ve wanted to do? Or want me to help you learn? You’ve been practicing your Ki sensing skills, right?”

She nods. “Yep. And... you know, there might be a few things you could help me with. Been kinda wanting to learn more about managing my Ki, controlling it better beyond just raising and lowering it. Don’t think I’ll be learning how to fly any time soon, but it could help me quite a bit with things like balance and focus.”

You smile wide. “That sounds like a great idea. I’ll be sure to help you with that.”

“My my, planning another date now, are we?” Cocoa’s mother asks you jokingly, Cocoa blushing and pouting at her. You nervously laugh as you turn your head, rubbing the side of your neck. “Have her back by 11, Peppa.”

“Moooom.” Cocoa grumbles to her.

“Hello Mrs. Amaguri.” you greet kindly. “And, u-um... well...”

“Merely joking, dear... but it is good to see the two of you have been able to talk things over. Just no more tossing undergarments around.”

Oof. Ow. “Yes ma’am...”

“Actually, mom, Peppa’s going to be going on a trip soon, off into space. She’ll be back from time to time... but I was wondering if I could go with her for a few of the places she’ll be visiting.”

“Is she now?” she asks both Cocoa, but more directly, you.

“Yes ma’am. If you and your husband will allow it.” you bow to her politely.

“Well, so long as she’s not going anywhere dangerous, and you do have her back before midnight, I think that will be fine. Just make sure you contact us before that, okay?”

“Certainly, Mrs. Amaguri!”

She walks over and pats you on the head. “Good. I trust in our little champ to keep our precious little Cocoa safe.”

“Actually, before we get on that, Cocoa, it might be best to look the place up. It’s one thing for a movie to be filmed there, but tourism is a whole other matter.” You cross your arms and smile. “But regardless, I’ll make sure you’re safe out there.”

Cocoa giggles and pokes your cheek. “Sweet of you. Okay. I’ll look it up.”

“Hmm... I also kinda need to talk with Videl today, but before I do, is there anything you might want to learn about Ki control and the like? Probably not ready for something like what I’m used to, but if you’re up for it, I can help. You know, at least, help better than a Wii Fit.” you stick your tongue out at her. Something like Konpei is probably a bit too much for her, but you can help out just a little.

“Sure! See, I’ve been wondering about...”

You and Cocoa take some time to go over managing a body’s flow of energy, showing her some mediations your mother and father have taught you. With that done, you wish her well and head off to meet with Videl, meeting her at her father’s dojo.

“A trip to space, huh?” she asks aloud, guarding against two of her father’s students, knocking them both away and dodging a third with ease. “You really think I’d be the best candidate for such a thing?”

“You know most everyone else who’ll be on the trip really well. Mom, Pantea, and myself especially. You’ll be a big help going forward. Well, that, and...” You casually dodge as Videl throws one more opponent who was trying to tackle her over her shoulder and in your direction. “There’s the issue of Basilea.”

Videl dodges the next couple opponents but turns around to face you. “What’s she up to this time?”

“Seeking out Dragon Balls scattered across space. She’s issued a challenge to me, directly. But I know she’s up to something else, something more nefarious. She’s probably got something planned for you too... so I say, we meet her head on.”

Videl lets off a shockwave of energy that knocks her foes down, then raises her hand, signaling that she’s got to take a break. She heads over to you. “All right. Count me in, Peppa. I’ll join this grand tour and stop her with you. Heh, besides, I think Pantea still needs some Fusion practice.” She grabs a towel to wipe the sweat off her face, then turns back to you. “Say, you haven’t really tried to get a partner for that yet, have you?”

“Eheh. Well... thanks, Peppa.” Videl replies bashfully. “Aside from me, though?”

You tap your chin. “Izzy, probably. While we aren’t quite as in-sync as you and I, I’m sure the both of us could coordinate pretty well. Plus with the magical abilities she’s been learning, I think we’d be able to come up with a lot of pretty unique skills and strategies. Wonder how well I could mix my Super Saiyan skills with that magic she’s trying to manage...”

“You betcha! Let’s give it a try, Videl!” you call out enthusiastically. She waves to her father and heads out with you, finding a quieter place outside Satan dojo for the two of you to practice.

“Okay Peppa, let’s get this started. You’ve seen it done plenty of times before, right?” Videl asks you. You nod. “Ah, but seeing it isn’t quite the same as actually doing it. So, let’s go over the basics.” Videl’s Ki calms and focuses as she takes her stance. “Arms out like this, legs spread like this, and follow through with these movements. Fuuuuu... sion! HA! Like two rivers coming together at two points, let your Ki flow into your partner.”

“Arms more parallel, Peppa.” Videl instructs.

“Okay, parallel. And then you move them over in a circular motion and then take sidesteps-”

“No no, same time, and !”

Okay, cirular motion while sidestepping. “Then bend the knee like this, and turn the arms-”

“Wait, no, Peppa you’re bringing the fingers out too early!”

And so this continues for a good 20 minutes, Videl even getting a mirror out for the two of you to try and practice with. Finally, you think you’re about to come close to getting it, feeling just confident enough to give it a real try. “Okay! I’ve got it.”

“Are... you sure, Peppa?” Videl asks hesitantly.

“Yeah, I’m ready. Okay, let’s try this.” You stand beside her, matching your breathing with hers. “Fuuuu...”

“Sion!”

“HA!”

You’re doing it! You’re doing it! You’re gonna-!

“WAIT! Wait wait wait!” Videl stops it, and you midjudge badly enough that you almost fall. “Nope, you’re misjudging because of your height.”

You pout. “Oh come on, is that really THAT much of a difference?”

“If the fingers are off by even a couple degrees, you’ll fail the fusion and have to spend 30 minutes stuck in a form with exceptionally poor Ki control. Well, stuck, but there apparently is a way to defuse, but it’s... even harder. Point is, Pantea and I have messed it up a couple times before, and even your mom wasn’t able to get it on her first try. Think she ended up with a large, chubby body that could barely even run right. One time Pantea and I failed at it and we ended up looking like a shriveled old prune’s granny.”

You shudder. “Okay, okay, I get it. Hrgh. Man, this fusion stuff is more complicated than I thought. Especially if-” ...A thought occurs. You remember seeing a certain name on that list of planets that weren’t where Giru had been to, but were still of interest. “Videl, what was the name of that planet this thing’s from?”

“Eh? Um... Metamor, I think?” She scratches her head. “Why do you ask?”

“Metamor... yeah. It was on the list of planets Bulma’d compiled for us.” You grin at her. “You said that there’s a way to defuse, right? Then maybe someone should finally learn that from the experts.”

All right folks, that's all for tonight. We’ll be back tomorrow starting ~4:30 pm PST. I’ll be around for a bit for some questions if y’all have any. Did y’all have fun?

Sorry, meant to say "next session"

I want some more exciting things than talking and training if we're going to have a long session, y'know?
>>
>>3411457
Had fun, Kato. Will we get a chance to hang out with a few people before Space? I'd like to still have that match with Gohan, and kinda want to see what 19's up to before we blast off.
>>
>>3411484
>I'd like to still have that match with Gohan, and kinda want to see what 19's up to before we blast off.
That match can wait until Gohan's trained, and 19 will potentially be coming with us. There's no need to delay.
>>
>>3411491
Let's train with Gohan then.
>>
>>3411504
No, I'm antsy from all this training, we're clearly strong enough until the next villain gives us reason to think otherwise. Gohan can train on his own, that would probably help him in his match against us for doing something we wouldn't expect.
>>
>>3411506
Or we can help him get stronger and give him a real goal to push towards and try to surpass.
>>
>>3411513
That's already the case, and he can go train with someone else like we suggested last thread.

Even if Fusion is more difficult than you initially thought, you feel you’ve got a stronger drive to not only learn it, but learn more about it. In the meantime though, you’ve got a few days before the trip begins. 19 seems willing to come along, though apparently she has something to do first. Meanwhile, you noticed Gohan has been fairly active lately, training with dad, Teach and Lapis, and apparently having some talks with both Tien and Yurin. Lime seems to have been fairly busy as well, asking you to help her look up the history of a few ruins and the like, though seems she’s just a little bummed you’re going off into space while she’s more or less stuck on Earth still. And lastly, uncle Raditz has been going over some of his old contacts, both in the PTO and the Galactic Patrol, though seems he might want a hand with all of it.

And so, in the days before you’re set to go to space, you...

>A. See if you can help 19 at all
>B. Check on Gohan, see if you can help him

You had a lot of time to plan this out, and you opened with us talking to people. We're still gonna be talking with people this session, presumably. Instead of going on adventures, it feels more like we're going by a grocery list of what's expected of us until we bump into the next villain. Gohan's camping trip would be more fun to read than "Peppa prepares to go to Space instead of going to Space," since it could be a Goten and Trunks episode from Super potentially.

You head off to Jingle Village to check up with uncle Raditz, seeing what you can do to help him prepare for the trip ahead. “So, most of these are...?”

He looks over a datapad, Daikon chasing his dad’s tail. “Shipping routes, news articles from the PTO, even some rumors and conspiracy bits, everything relating to the planets we’ve selected. Plus a few things cleared along the proper channels to get the Galactic Patrol looking for sucpicious individuals too. Most importantly though...” He brings the datapad down to your level so you can see. “Cases of people on backwater planets suffering a strange skin condition, like the alien your mother and the Supreme Kai found out about. And, more importantly, cases not on backwater planets. Specifically one on Brench.”

You see images of a person who looks a bit like Jeice, but with... silvery skin and hair, metallic-looking. “What happened to him?”

“Some kind of viral nanomachine thing. Didn’t end up contagious thankfully, but the person it infected needed several weeks in a healing pod just to stabilize his condition.”

“Hmm... so this thing might be connected to Giru? Wait... is Giru carrying some kind of robot disease or something?”

“If he is, he hasn’t infected anyone yet, and nothing Bulma’s researched has shown him to produce something like this. It could be a defense mechanism though.” Raditz looks over to Daikon. “...Which makes me wonder how deliberate his arrival here on Earth actually was.”

>A. This person that was infected with these nanomachines, do you think we should prioritize meeting him first? Or heading to Imecka instead?
>B. You said a healing tank was able to keep this person from dying... might Senzu also work for this? I could head over to Mr. Korin and get a bunch for the trip, just in case we run into more people like that

A different direction from you isn't OOC, it's within the character's capabilities. For example, listening to people spout exposition is boring enough, and we're Goku's kid. We should be wanting to do anything else than listen to someone talk on and on.

“This person who was infected with those nanomachines, do you think it would be better to prioritize heading to him first on Brench? Or going off to Imecka to investigate the first one we know about? Also like, is the infection more... slow-acting grey goo, cyborg collective like that one show Mrs. Launch likes, or more like those cyborg guys from the show Lapis likes?”

He looks over the datapad again. “From what the articles have said... seems to be more like it was trying to encase the person in a ‘protective’ shell of sorts. The problem came in that there apparently weren’t enough of them to create that, and so they started cannibalizing the person’s body bit by bit, replacing it with more of those nanomachines. HOW it did that isn’t in any of the articles here, but I’d imagine we could find out more once on that planet. However... hrmn. While I think it’s the more immediate priority, it may be hard to get them to completely agree to letting us take a look without showing we can help in some way. Going to Imecka to collect that minion of Babidi’s would make things easier, but ultimately it depends on what we think is more necessary at the time. I’m certainly curious about the one on Brench, since he’s still able to at least talk with us about what happened to him.”

You scratch the top of your head. “Well... that’s fair. Though you did say a healing tank could keep this person from dying... do you think a Senzu could have similar effects? I could head over to Mr. Korin’s to get a bunch for the trip, just in case we run into more people like that!”

Raditz laughs. “We’ll need Senzu regardless. But packing extra would be smart, so go ahead.”

“Thanks uncle Raditz! Anything else you think I could help with?”

He looks up and ponders quietly for a minute. “Hmm... maybe. But that’ll have to wait for the trip.”

“Oh?”

Raditz pats his son on the head. “Since we’ll be the only Saiyans going, there’s something I think we need to practice together.”

“Ahhh, gotcha. Okay, heading off!”

(cont.)
>>
>>3414124
And so you teleport to Korin’s tower, asking for a bunch of Senzu beans for the trip... and you end up with even more than you thought you’d need. A large bag full of them. “Er... how many are in here?”

“45, total. I think you guys are going to need them if you’re trying to help people with this kind of machine sickness thing. I’ve been getting some bad vibes over this whole thing, and Baba hasn’t been putting my mind at ease. This will still leave a good amount to us back on Earth, but still, be careful out there.”

“Will do, Mr. Korin.”

And so, with all of this set, the day finally comes. Bulma goes over a few of the details on it, most of your friends and family here to see you off. Gohan talks with Pantea a bit as Bulma and Yamcha watch, Videl’s mom and dad giving her a hug, mom floating up and kissing dad on the cheek, uncle Raditz patting Suno and Daikon on their heads as he prepares to head off, Giru carrying 16‘s head with him as he approaches the group, 19 having a chat with Chiaotzu and Izzy, and, last but certainly not least, Cocoa and Lime meeting you before you go.

“Still wish you would be able to come to that dig I managed to sign up for, but I guess saving the universe or whatever is a bit more important.” Lime comments teasingly.

“Hey, you never know, might be able to be back just in time for that.” you reply kindly.

“Well...” Cocoa looks down at her goggles, then smiles at you. “Big goodbyes are probably gonna jinx this, so instead... good luck, Peppa. And keep in touch, okay?”

“We’ll talk every night! Promise!” you tell Cocoa cheerfully. “Oh, and Lime, see if you can rope Gohan into helping you with those trips. He was a big help back when we were little, exploring the Nemurian ruins together.”

She rubs her chin contemplatively. “Hmm... yeah, yeah I think I just might do that. Heh heh heh...”

You’re beginning to wonder if that was the best idea to put in her head. Ah well, Gohan’s a tough kid, he can handle her. You take a step towards Cocoa. “Say, is there anything you might want before I leave?”

“Well... maybe.” She rubs the back of her neck sheepishly. She then brings out her phone. “Could I get a photo with us in front of that ship?”

You giggle. “Sure. Come on.”

“I’ll take it for you.” Lime states. Cocoa hands her the phone and skips closer to you, the two of you smiling as as you stand before the ship. “And a 1, a 2, a 3!~ Say cheese!”

“Cheese!”

Lime hands the phone back to Cocoa, the girl smiling happily down at it. You tilt your head as she looks it over. “Any reason for that?”

“Just something I thought would be nice, to remember this by. Want a copy?”

Aww. “Sure. But now I’m gonna need something else before I go.”

“Hmm?”

You spread your arms out. “Really keeping in touch? Gonna be a little hard, my arms only go this far.”

She laughs. “You dork. Just ask for a hug if you want it.”

“Hug?” you ask with a cheeky grin.

She pulls you in close and hugs you tight. “Hug. Take care, Peppa.”

You let go of her gently, but out of the corner of your eye you spot someone. Oh, hey! “Monty, hey. You come to see us off too?”

“Y-yes. I heard you were leaving from your uncle.” He glances at Cocoa briefly, then back at you and... well, he smiles, but you get the feeling it’s hiding a bit of unease. Still, he hides it fairly well. “Thank you again, Peppa. And best of luck.”

“Good luck with your training! Have fun with your trip, Lime! And see you soon, Cocoa!” you call out as you start to head towards the ship.

“Bye Peppa!” Cocoa and Lime wave at you.

You finally get to the ship, the thing looking like some kind of... well, weird squid thing. Octopus, maybe? Spider? Kinda looks like Piccolo and Kami’s ship, but significantly bigger. Ah well, who cares. After giving one last round of goodbyes, you walk on in with mom and everyone else, Giru securing 16‘s head on a little booster seat as you all start to take your seats as well.

https://youtu.be/PYCuG2K9M8Y

“Ignition sequences in T-minus 5...” mom starts off, flipping a number of switches on the ship’s controls.

“4...” Raditz continues, typing away on a number pad.

“3...” Pantea follows, readying the flight controls.

“2...” Mom adds in once more, Giru settling by 19, who’s taken to sitting by 16.

You and Videl then shout out together, “ONE! BLASTOFF!”

The engines roar to life. The ship slowly rises, then steadily increases speed. There’s a brief jolt from the acceleration, but that soon comes to pass. You break through the atmosphere, and where once there was blue sky ahead instead the view becomes a sea of stars as brilliant and beautiful as the night sky. You’re in space. Off to new worlds and discoveries, off to find the truth of Giru’s origins, off to stop Basilea.

You can’t wait.

Mom looks over the controls. “Okay, artificial gravity is holding, we’ll be able to hit FTL in a minute. Where we headed first?”

“Peppa and I talked about this previously, but Imecka and Brench both have seem like the prime targets. Imecka will let us find this strange silvery alien’s corpse, while Brench has one who lived through it. One may help us find out more about the other, but either way, it’s best to head to one of those locations first.” Raditz replies

“Hmm... then I’m thinking where this all started. Imecka.” mom states. “Anyone else agree?”

“I would believe Brench is the better target.” 19 states. “We will be able to meet with this person directly.”

“I’m with Maple on this one.” Pantea comments. “Best find this one before someone else does.”

“Mmh... I don’t know. It’s not like anyone else WOULD be looking for them, after however long he’s been there. I say Brench.”

You and 19 glance at 16‘s head. He rolls his eyes. “If you must pick one, pick Brench. I have someone I would like to speak with there.”

Giru beeps lowly. “Giru, Giru. I wish to see Imecka again!”

“Brench.” you state with affirmation. Videl and 19 nod with you, and you even see 16 show a small smirk. “If you’re looking for a tie-breaker, then Brench it is.”

“All right, then we’ll be off to Brench.” Raditz states, plugging in the coordinates.

“Gotcha! Next stop, planet Brench!” Pantea calls out, setting the ship to go. It starts to speed up once more, and soon the sea of stars become streaks of starlight peaking through a white glow around the ship. Pantea taps a few more controls, then gets up. “Autopilot’s gonna have us there in about 3 hours, so everyone get comfortable.”

You finally get up from your seat and stretch a little. “Hmm, three hours...” You walk around a little when you notice a little glow in the bag you packed. Ah, your goggles! And... heh, it’s that picture you took with Cocoa. Looks like she sent it right before you hit FTL. 19 walks around a little as well, staring out at the stars, 16 letting Giru take him over to a shelf for him to rest on. Videl and Pantea head over to a couch and start to chat, mom and Raditz looking over a datapad together.

You walk over to Giru, the little robot... kinda excited. Even if he isn’t going off to Imecka immediately, he knows you’re all on your way to find his home. He knows he was supposed to be collected by someone, after all. Hey, speaking of... “Say, Giru, did that play jog any more of your memories? Anything at all about where you were from?”

“Giru, Giru! Several recovered memories have been used to help Bulma and Maple construct this list of planets!”

“Yeah, I know what, but is there anything else?” Still kinda obtuse.

“Giru, Giru. Memory recovered of making a sandcastle on Imecka!” He beeps excitedly. “Memory recovered of an odd mechanical humanoid!”

“...Wait what.”

Giru hops over to a datapad and floats back to you with it. He looks something up and-

“WHAT HAPPEN?”

“SOMEONE SET US UP THE BOMB!”

You hit pause on it and glare at the robot. “Giru. Was trying to be serious here.”

“Giru, Giru! This creature is familiar!” He hits play again, letting the video continue until it gets to a cyborg man in a purple cloak. “Familiar! Data transmission of him has been detected before!”

“Where?” you ask, still mildly annoyed.

“Timestamp indicates Planet Imecka, approximately 6 years ago! Giru, Giru.”

“...Huh. Wait, about when you arrived? Also... six years. Wow that thing is old.” You cross your arms. “So, that one more reason why you want to return, to find out why you were able to see that?”

“Affirmative! Giru, Giru.”

That at least eases you a bit. “Well, okay. Anything else you learned ?”

“Records of temperature increases from you, Son Peppa, during the play! Indications of-”

“And now we are done with this conversation.” You walk over to Videl and Pantea, and decide to chat with them a bit.

“...practicing for how long now?” Videl asks.

“About a year and a half. Just something I’ve managed to slot in, what with all the college papers and research and my projects. Well, and training of course.” Pantea states casually.

The black-haired girl chuckles. “Only you would ‘slot in’ learning how to fly spaceships, especially since you’re talking about it like you’d talk about making a paper airplane.”

“You certainly made it look easy, Pantea.” you comment, sitting by them. “How DO you manage to multitask so well? Even Gohan and I have some trouble with it.”

“Guess you can thank my mom and dad for that, hah.” She sits back. “That, and an almost illegal amount of caffeine sometimes.”

The three of you giggle. “What projects are you working on?”

“Well, I’ve set my sights on delving deeper into robotics. Mom’s nearly omnidisciplinary in all the degrees she has, and while I’ve managed to get a few in mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology, I think I’m going to dedicate the brunt of everything into robotics. Should have a Masters in it by the end of next year.”

Videl sighs. “A few degrees, right. And here I have to rely on Peppa to help me study for my finals.”

“Hey now, you’re really smart on your own, Videl.” you respond earnestly. “It wasn’t relying on me, you still managed to pass everything without me hovering over your shoulder or anything. You put in the right amount of effort for it and you’ll pass with flying colors.”

“Heh, thanks Peppa.” Videl smiles at you.

“Though, I am curious, Pantea. What did prompt the interest in robotics?” you ask.

She glances over to 19, still looking out at the passing stars. Pantea’s voice gets a little quieter. “This is... gonna sound a little silly. But... I’d guess part of it is because of Dr. Gero. I want to show him up at his own game, so to speak. Show that we can have more robots... more people, like 19. Without resorting to the unethical methods he tends to employ. Besides, it’d be nice to have some way to help 19, and Eighter, and General Blue, and everyone else like that, live the lives they want to live. Not as tools, but as people.” She notices you and Videl staring at her, then blushes and bashfully laughs. “Ahahaha, I know that sounds a little silly, but-”

“Not at all. In fact, I think you’ve got your heart and mind in the right places.” Videl comments. “Hope for the best with that, Pantea.”

I am so, so sorry for the delay. I've just been dealing with some stuff recently. I will be able to continue tonight, but it might be a short night.

We're back.

You finally arrive in orbit over Brench, the ship decelerating as Pantea makes contact with Traffic Control to notify them of your approach. You’re escorted to a landing port on the night side of the planet, then further escorted by some guards to a customs office, where most everyone has to wait for a good ten minutes. As you wait, you notice that the gravity’s actually a good deal higher than it is on Earth. Nothing you can’t handle, but still noticeably stronger. Hmm... might want to cross this off as a place for . Finally, a rather important-looking man comes in, an older person with graying hair and blue skin. “Maple... Son-Mahogany, yes?”

“Yes!” Mom grins wide, hearing someone use her full name for once. “Ah, and I believe I know you. Lazuli’s told me a bit about you before.”

“Heh heh, I bet she has. She doing well, still?” the mak asks.

“Yep. Raising a wonderful little daughter with her husband Krillin.” Mom stands and gives a bow of her head. “Good to finally meet you face-to-face.”

“Indeed. And allow me to introduce myself properly to you all: I am Dressan, Supreme Commander of the Brench Security Forces. What brings your group to our world today?”

Mom and Raditz get to work explaining the situation with one of Babidi’s minions, and more to the point, the case of such a thing happening to one of the people here on Brench. He seems to know about the latter case, but... “While we can arrange a meeting with that person, it won’t be for a while. He’s currently undergoing a number of examinations.”

“I might be able to help with that.” Maple states. “Or, if you would rather we not interrupt at all, it’d be helpful for us to look over the data you do have. We might be able to add to it. Whatever you’re willing to give.”

“That is acceptable. If you wish, we can head over soon.” Dressan replies.

“If possible, could we also investigate the area he was originally found at?” Videl asks.

“Certainly.”

Raditz looks around. “How are the security forces holding up? Think they need a bit more training?”

“Hah, we probably could. Heh, I think a few folks here still remember you from the PTO days, Raditz.”

“Those days are kinda behind me now...” your uncle responds hesitantly. “But if it’s training they need, it’s training I can give them.”

“I have a request as well. Artificial Human 15 is still on this planet, correct?” 19 asks. Dressan nods. “Would it be possible for you to arrange a meeting with him and myself?”

“Sure, his comedy routines have a few hours before they start up again.” the Brench man replies with a chuckle.

“Do you mind if I tag along, 19? This sounds interesting.” She gives you a nod, and you walk to the robot girl, who’s carrying , then recall something. “Oh! Mr. Dressan, sir, while we’re here, has there been any reports of a strange lady in furs, or a cloak, passing through the area recently? Red skin and silver hair, but with horns and a tail, looking for any strange artifacts?”

“Hmm... I’d have to check on that. Why do you ask?”

“It’s a lady named Basilea. She’s been after some fairly dangerous things recently, and she’s... kinda been after me, directly. If you see her, let us know, because she herself is pretty dangerous as well.”

“I will keep an eye out then.” Dressan replies.

Giru floats along with you as you and 19 head off, given directions by Dressan to where 15‘s being held. Well... “held” is a relative term. Seems the robot’s head has quite a bit of luxury going for it... well, for a head, at least. “Well I’ll be. Man, 16, whatchu been up to? Stayin’ ahead of the game like me? Ahahahaaa, but really, heard you got in a big ol’ scuffle all those years ago.”

“I am beginning to remember why my father wanted to install a mute button for him.” the redheaded... head, comments dryly.

“And 19! Giiiirl what is UP? You know, after betraying ol’ Doc and whatever, figured you’d try to lay low or something, but last I heard you were in the Tournament.”

“And I rather enjoyed the experience.” 19 tells 15, glancing at you for a brief moment before returning her attention to him. “I came here because I wished to talk with you.”

“Well hey, I ain’t runnin’ anywhere any time soon. Hahahaaaa! You came here with that lil’ monkey though?”

“Is that a problem?” you question, raising an eyebrow at the robot.

“15, you have not had any contact with Dr. Gero in all these years, yes?” the robot girl asks.

“Nnnnope! Ol’ Doc’s probably got some crazy new idea he’s focused on. Us rejects? Bah, he don’t care much.”

“I am no reject.” 16 protests.

The purple android laughs. “Haha, yeeeaaah, you say that, but he’s been in no rush to retrieve you, has he?”

You notices 16‘s eye twitch. 19 sets him down on a cushion, then sits down by him. “15, are you happy with this?”

“Eh, I’ve got a pretty sweet gig. None of them have been able to make me a new body or anything, but I tell you what, the people of Brench? They love my sense of humor, y’ know? And hey, I’m a better talking head than most of their politicians. Hahahaahaaa! But yeah, sweet gig. I just need to let them take a look at my parts every now and then. Of course, if I had my old body back, I bet there’s some programming deep down in there that’d want me to start going after Maple and her little group and whatever.” He grins at you. “No offense, kid.”

“So you have completely given up on your goals and are using your lack of a body as an excuse.” 16 tells him bluntly.

“Don’t lose your head, 16.” he replies cheekily.

“Boy, whatever act you’re in needs work if YOU’RE the headliner.” you tell the purple robot head, a slight smirk appearing on your face.

And he starts laughing. “Ahahaha! Okay, I think I like ya’, kid.”

“Would you want a body though? I mean like, in general, not just the old one you used to have.”

“Ain’t none of the people here able to make one sophisticated enough for me. Buuut I have to admit it’d be a lot more fun if I could hold more booze again.”

“Every day I since the day I became conscious I questioned why my father left that programming quirk in you.” 16 states.

“You should see what he himself could do when he still had a fleshy old body. Think one reason he switched over to being an Artificial Human himself.” 15 chuckles lowly.

“If I had hands I’d be strangling you right now.” 16 grumbles. “After I punch Maple in the face.”

You pout at the redheaded robot. “Mmh. We really need to do something about those murderous impulses. Say you two get non-combat bodies. Would you two still want to fight us?”

“I mean, my programming is puttin’ self-preservation first because it knows whatever damage I inflict right now would barely even annoy you, y’dig? Still nothin’ these folks could do to help me get something actually functional.” 15 replies.

“All I can say is that doing so may be detrimental to your health and mine.” 16 responds.

“Bulma helped rebuild my personality from scratch. What she did for me, she may be able to do for either of you.” the robot girl adds. “If you are willing.”

“No. As I have told her many times before.” 16 states. “I wish for my memories and programming to remain as intact as possible.”

15 on the other hand... “...Eh. Maybe I’ll consider it some time. But I’m in no rush for it.”

“Giru, Giru, perhaps some form of propulsion mechanism would prove beneficial!”

“Got a couple of those on loan. Though... you are an odd one. My sensors are pickin’ up Ki from you, lil’ guy. Where you from?”

“So you do not know about him.” 19 surmises as Giru beeps lowly.

You lean against a wall next to 19. “That’s the real mystery. He’s been to several planets, even here on Brench, with no clue towards his origins nor his purpose.”

“Doc’s definitely not building anythin’ like that. But... hmm. What can you do, lil’ guy?” he asks.

“Giru Giru Giru! Watch! Many things!” He looks around the room for something, then bolts over to a... is that a harmonica? Is he...

“You think you can play? Hah, you ain’t got no lips, lil’ dude, so-”

And then Giru promptly chomps down on it. The tiny robot then seems to adjust its body a little, then starts playing a tune via the harmonica it absorbed. You glare at him. “You really need to start asking permission, you know.”

“...Now that is a neat trick. Able to adapt to new technology on the fly... hey 19, 16, it seem familiar to you at all?”

The robot girl shakes her head. “I have not seen technology quite like this before, no.”

“Y’ sure? ‘Cause if you ask me, somethin’ like that? Reminds me... of the Big Gete Star.”

Oooh that is ominous. “...Giru, does that phrase ring any bells?”

“Giru, Giru... Big Gete Star... Big Gete Star... Big Gete Star... data...” He beeps as he seems to start to recall something.... “...corrupted.”

19 stands up. “So you do have data on the Big Gete Star, but you are unable to access it.”

“Giru, Giru! Affirmative! Data corrupted!”

“Doc always did wonder where that thing came from, and that weirdo that was piloting it.” 15 comments. “Maybe this lil’ guy’s not as harmless and stupid as he looks. Eh, then again, if he’s so faulty an’ glitched, he’s probably just as stupid as he looks.”

Almost insulted by the comment, Giru floats closer, declaring, in an apparently recorded file...

“Izzy has filled your processors with junk.” you grumble. “Still, something I guess we need to keep tabs on. I’m pretty sure mom knows more about that Big Gete thing. Thank you, 15, and remember, Bulma’d be perfectly willing to help you with getting a new body and everything.”

“I’ll consider it, kiddo.”

“And 16... look I can understand not wanting to lose who you are. Completely understand that. But... you never really seemed like you, yourself, wanted to hurt us. Only what’s been programmed into your head, like how 19 was. Is it only your programming that tells you not to give up on your mission? Can you decide otherwise?”

He gives you a quizzical look. “If you must know, the highest priority among my programming is actually self-preservation. My father still wishes for me to be safe. That said, I am obligated to treat your kind as high-priority targets. Further, I still have most of my old memories, from before my time as a human came to an end. I do have a desire, a personal desire, to follow my father.”

“Why’d the ol’ man leave you then, 16? Face it, you’re a reject just like the rest of us.”

19 picks up the ginger robot head. “...I do not believe that to be the case. There may be another motive for Gero to leave him with us. If I were to speculate... your highest priority being self-preservation may give us the clue as to why.”

“What do you mean?” 16 asks.

“I believe he wants you to stay safe. He knows, even if he would never admit it, that you will be safe among us.” 19‘s lips curl into a smile. “Am I incorrect in my assumption?”

16 glares at her silently. He then looks away, and closes his eyes. “Believe what you wish. He will return.”

“All right, so, we good with this?” you ask. “Because I’m a little famished. Wonder what kind of grub we can scrounge up here and-”

‘Peppa, come in!’ Videl’s voice calls to you. ‘I think we’ve found something! Get here ASAP!’

You and 19 arrive next to Videl at what looks like a police station on the planet, 16 requesting to be left alone to talk with 15, Giru holding on to 19‘s hair. “What’ve you got, Videl?”

“Look at this.” she asks as she leans over a table. On it is... egh. It’s some kind of animal, but it’s dead. Seems to be something a bit like a raccoon or tiny bear, but with faded tiger stripes and a beak. And... its body’s natural color has been completely replaced with shades of silver.

“What the heck happened to it?” you ask.

“Zis one, she was found in ze area not too long ago.” one of the officers, a blue-skinned man with long blonde hair, tells you. “Animal control found ze carcass behind a dumpster, we hav no clue az to what caused her death. Commander Dressan, he told us that your group would know more about zis, Earthlings.”

“It does fit the description...” Videl comments. “And it was in the area where they found the initial victim.”

You look over to the little robot. “Well, Giru, do you recognize this creature?”

He floats over to it curiously, beeping lowly. After half a minute, he concludes. “Data found! Creature designation: juvenile Strigiursidae, female.”

“We call zem Kevasir.” the officer comments.

“Detecting trace amounts of nanomachines! Giru, Giru. Data...” He beeps again, floating around the carcass. “Inconclusive.”

“You do not recognize them as your own, then.” 19 comments. “You should at the very least be able to tell if that is the case or not.”

“How long has it been dead? You said it was discovered recently.” Videl asks.

“Few hours, tops. Ze animal’s decomposition iz, how you zay, difficult to determine.”

“Scans indicate nanomachine deactivation approximately 19 days ago! Giru, Giru.”

“...That is relatively recent, isn’t it?” you ask. “Wait... that person they found in a condition like this. Uncle Raditz told me he was in a healing pod for several weeks. Maybe they’re related?” You rub your chin. “Hmm... can you take us to where you found it? There might be more clues there, especially if there is no significant viral outbreak going on.”

“Certainly. We can give you an escort right away.” the officer replies. “In ze meantime, we will hand the carcass over to have it analyzed, if you zay zere iz no danger.”

“Nanomachines inactive! Out of power and unable to replicate! Giru, Giru.” the robot affirms confidently.

“Then let’s be off.” Videl starts heading out, you and 19 following her. You’re lead to an alleyway, and then pointed to a small dumpster in the area.

Giru approaches it. “Trace amounts of Nanomachines detected!”

“Is there a trail anywhere?” Videl asks him.

“Inconclusive! Need more data!”

You look around the area. “Hmm... Giru, for your analysis of those nanomachines, would it be better if you analyze them directly like you do with tools? Or do you think you might run the risk of them infecting you?”

“Giru, Giru. Will need further analysis! Risk of foreign nanomachine corruption is low, but not zero!”

“Understandable. Okay, we should start spreading out and searching this place. I’m gonna catch mom up with what we’ve found out.” Telepathically, you start, ‘Ghost Pepper to Momma Bird...’

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4eQsM1-pVI

Videl and 19 begin looking through the area, and once you’ve caught mom up to speed, you start sensing out the place too. Mention of the Big Gete Star has her a little on-edge, given what it was capable of. As you search, you notice... a small patch of silvery material on the ground, barely the size of a 10 Zenni coin. You lean down, looking it over. “Hey... hey Giru, over here, I think I’ve found something.”

“Giru, Giru! Nanomachines detected!” he blurts out as he... well, states the obvious.

“Videl, 19, you guys sensing anything?” you ask aloud.

“Negative.”

“Nothing yet, but-”

Videl’s reply is interrupted as the three of you hear movement. You look in the direction of it, and... see a flash of something metallic in the distance, moving through an abandoned building. Something seems to skitter away. The brief glimpse you got made it look like... some kind of robot spider.

“DANGER! DANGER! NANOMACHINES DETECTED!”

And then there’s a spike of... Ki. Small, but ominous and sinister. “It’s getting away!” Videl blurts out. The three of you chase it down, you cornering it and finally getting a good look at it. It’s a... mechanical creature with a body about the size of your face, robotic limbs and a long, snaking tail behind it. It... kinda reminds you of one of those movie monsters that gave Lime nightmares when she was younger.

It rears up like it’s about to attack, only for Videl and 19 to blast it from behind, knocking it down. It again tries to skitter away, but it’s damage and sluggish.

“Don’t let it get away!” you yell out, firing a weak Ki blast at the monster. Not enough to destroy it, but enough to slow it down. 19 attempts to corner it like you did, but the creature manages to make a leap at her that causes her to dodge. Videl however is able to get behind her and let out a Kiai that knocks the robotic creature back, and timing it perfectly... “Clothes Beam!”

The weakened and damaged machine is caught up in a sturdy net and falls to the ground, stunned and weakly trying to escape. It squirms once, twice, thrice... got it! You head over to it and scoop up part of the net, lifting it slightly. 19 looks it over. “...Giru. Do your sensors indicate that this creature’s nanomachines match those of the carcass and those we found outside as well?”

“Giru, Giru! Complete match!”

“Well... one mystery solved, but it just leads into another. What IS it?” Videl asks.

“Hmm... better get this to someone who can tell us that. Grab on.” You tap your fingers to your forehead, lock on to mom’s Ki, and teleport to her with Videl, 19, and Giru.

Maple is able to get the robotic creature into a secure confinement area with the help of Pantea and a few Brench scientists. While damaged, it’s clearly still active, and more importantly, dangerous. Pantea observes as it starts to stalk the space it’s confined in. “Well... it’s definitely the thing responsible for Tahini ending up in the condition he was in.”

“Tahini?” you repeat.

“The person who was infected with the nanomachines.” Mom tells you.

“So... what is it, exactly?” Videl asks.

“If I had to guess... it was originally a lifeform, originally a parasitic alien species that’s supposed to be quarantined to a specific planet, but one that ended up converted into some kind of mutant machine... thing.” She leans closer, adjusting her glasses. “It looks like it might-”

“SKREEE!” it suddenly shrieks out as it sees her get closer, leaping at the reinforced glass and... letting out a weak blue beam from what you could only describe as its “mouth,” for lack of a better term. Pantea leaps back as everyone takes a defensive stance, Giru hiding behind 19. And... the beam leaves behind silvery remnants where it hit the glass. The robotic creature then falls flat, as if it ran out of power.

“Well. That made my heart skip a beat.” Pantea sighs.

>A. Should we destroy it? Or at least keep it from doing something like that again

“Well, Giru? Recognize anything about it?” you ask the little robot, still cowering behind 19. “Anything at all giving you a clue to its origins?”

He starts beeping lowly for a few seconds. “Giru, Giru... Giru, Giru, Giru! Nanomachine weapon is familiar! Memory fragment recovered!”

“Wait, really?” Pantea questions.

The robot’s arm changes shape into what looks like some kind of... tiny ray gun. You take a step back, Giru proudly declaring, “Nanomachine removal tool recovered!”

“Removal tool? You had that all this time?” Videl asks him.

“Affirmative, memory recovered! Removal tool recovered!”

“But you do not remember more than that, do you?” 19 asks. He beeps a slow, sad beep. “Can you at least recall if you absorbed that device, or if you were given it naturally?”

“Giru, Giru... data fragmented...” he beeps out just as sadly.

“Well, back to the drawing board on that, but looks like we have a new lead.” mom states happily. “And we’ll be able to recover from any more of these... things, provided we can keep Giru safe.”

“Hmm...” You look at the spider-snake robot... thing again. “Think it might be able to be disassembled in some way, so non-functioning parts can be analyzed?”

“Possibly.” Pantea responds, looking closer again. “The trick would be keeping those parts from regaining any significant amount of power.”

One of the Brench scientists walks over. “I believe we may be able to manage zat.” He brings his hand up and starts to focus his Ki, producing a... very tiny blade of energy. Almost like a scalpel. “We will remove a small part of ze machine’s tail section and begin analysis with it.”

“Be careful, it could be playing dead to lower your guard.” Maple tells the scientist.

“But of course. Incidentally, you say you have a removal tool, little robot?” the scientist asks Giru. He proudly shows it off to him. “Zen... perhaps you can help ze patient speed up his recovery.”

“Giru, Giru!” he beeps out excitedly in affirmation, doing a little dance. Hmm... you’re still not sure you like the fact that he has such a tool in the first place. But for now at least, it’s good that he’s on your side.

As you’re brought to the room the patient is recovering in, the Doctor greets him. “Hello, Onzola. How are you feeling?”

“G’day doc.” he replies through a strained voice. He turns his body slightly... it’s still stained a silvery color, though it seems like more of his natural pigments are returning. “Eheh, stronger every day, as they say.”

“Glad you are still in ze highest of spirits. We hav a special guest, one who may be able to help your condition.” He motions for Giru to approach, the robot floating closer.

“Nanomachines detected! Giru, Giru!” He floats closer to the man in the bed, bringing out his removal tool.

“Eheh, good thing I got over my fear of needles when I was a lad.” Onzola chuckles weakly.

“Some people take a longer time than others.” your mom comments, glancing at you.

“H-hey now, I’ve been good about shots for years!” you protest, pouting a little as Videl and Pantea giggle.

Giru fires out a little bluish beam at the man’s arm... and the silvery sheen to his skin starts to disappear. His face lights up jubilantly. “Crikey! Would you look at that! I... I can feel it again! Haha! Ha-ow.” He flinches as he tries to raise his arm. “Ow, that’s sore.”

The scientist looks him over. “You still hav a way to go for your recovery, but ze healing process should come along much smoother now.”

You’re about to reach for a Senzu, when you realize something. “Say, mom, you think you might be able to help him recover?”

“Hm? Ah! You know, you’re right. Good thinking, Peppa.” She pats your head and walks over, holding her hand out. “Here, this might help just a little.” She follows along as Giru continues to remove the nanomachines from the man, mom doing what she can to heal his body bit by bit. After a short while, the nanomachines are completely removed, and the damage done to his body has been reversed.

“Wow, thanks, mate! I feel good as new!” Onzola tells Maple and Giru.

Mom smiles at him. “I’d still recommend a good, long rest to make sure there are no side effects, and some time to get your weight back up, but you should be able to recover completely now.”

“Now zat is quite a trick. Last I heard, only ze Namekians had a skill like that.” the scientist comments.

“It’s not something everyone can pick up, but it’s something I managed to learn when I was really young, thanks to one of my oldest friends.” She walks back to you. “Like I said though, you’ve definitely lost a significant amount of weight. Your body’s going to recover, and you’ve definitely got your energy back, but don’t go flying around anywhere for a while.”

“While we still have your attention, sir, can you tell us more about how you ended up like that? What happened, exactly?”

He sits up a little. “Y’ see sheila, was heading back from my job at the port, got done with repairs on this ‘uge ship, went for a few coldies with the boys. But on my way, somethin’ skitterin’ in the shadows came up and smacked me right in the face. ‘fore I could tell what it was, skittered off like it owed someone money. Tried to make my way out of there, but my head got all spinny, and before y’ knew it, collapsed onto the street like I’d downed twice my usual.”

You rub your chin. “Did you manage to get a good look at it? Did it look something like... hmm...” You ask mom for a piece of paper and pen, and make a quick, rough sketch of the machine. “...Like this?”

He almost leaps up in surprise. “Holy dooley! That’s the thing!”

“We managed to capture it a few minutes ago. Made a go at us, just like it did with you.” Videl tells him. “Got it under control now, at least.”

“Indeed. Zis machine is securely locked away, for ze time being.” the scientist affirms.

“Mate y’ll wanna trash it as soon as possible. That thing’s bad news.” Onzola shakes his head.

“Even so, now we know what it is that was causing this.” mom comments. “Though... I have to ask, Giru here, have you seen him before?”

“Giru, Giru!” the robot beeps at him happily.

Onzola looks over Giru for a moment, trying to recall. “I... might’ve? I remember seein’ somethin’ weird at the port a few years ago that looked like the lil’ bugger. Thanks again, mate.”

“What port do you work at?” 19 questions. “We may be able to recover some security footage.”

“High Central, one where ol’ King Cold nearly bit the dust. Heh, ballsy of that sheila to go after him like that.”

“Hmm... sir, when you were examining him prior, did you find anything unusual about the nanomachines in his body? Like, was there a high concentration of them anywhere?” you ask the scientist.

He shakes his head. “No, zere was nothing of ze sort. We made extra sure zat it was not causing any buildups around his body.”

“Okay, just wanting to make sure. No idea what that thing can do, after all.” That, and Cocoa and Lime have taken you to enough sci-fi movies for you to know to check for something like that. “Anyway, let’s head to that spaceport now! ...Aaaafter one more thing.” You look to Giru. “That tool you produced was fairly unique, and could come in handy. Do you think you could output it somehow, produce more just in case?”

“Giru, Giru... Unable to produce usable copies of Nanomachine Removal tool. Error: 3D Printer incompatible with tool! Error: Insufficient power sources for tool!”

“Hmm... makes sense.” Pantea states. “Something like that would need a decent amount of juice on its own, and Giru, well, he has Ki (somehow) and can replenish his energy relatively easily. Though... is that the only reason your printer can’t make that tool?”

“Giru, Giru. High probability that Nanomachine Removal tool would have to be assembled in separate parts!”

“Ah. Of course.” Pantea sighs out. “So you can print pieces of it, but not the whole thing. Well... maybe we’ll do that back on the ship, can give it better study there.”

“So, we good then?” mom asks everyone. You all nod, and head off. Once at the spaceport, she’s able to explain the situation and get the okay from Dressan, partially in thanks for stopping the mechanical spider-snake thing. You get brought to a room with logged security footage.

“These go about 10 years back.” one of the operators, not a native of Brench but instead a man who looks a bit like Cui, tells you. “If there is anything, we’ll find it here.”

“Thank you, sir.” Mom and Pantea work with Giru to put together an approximate time and place for where Onzola saw Giru last. “Well, if it’s here, we’ll need to spend some time looking through them.”

“I can help with that.” 19 moves forward, typing away on the keyboard as she watches over some footage. “I can manage a few at once, but to be thorough we will need to analyze as many as possible. I will start with the most obvious ones.”

Well, this might take some time...

Scouring through the footage for a good hour and a half, you all finally start to get glimpses of Giru, or at the very least a robot like him, moving through the port on at least two different days. The first glimpse you have of him seems to be around a night shift, with the little robot wandering aimlessly at a loading area, munching on... what looks to be a gravimeter. You’re unable to tell for sure if this is when he first arrived on Brench, but given the gap between that point and the next bit of footage, you’d guess that it’s relatively close to that time.

Next shows him... apparently getting into a tech recycling bin near the exterior, happily chowing down on old computer parts and the like, only to be harassed by a bear-like animal with a beak and chased off as it exits a dumpster nearby, seemingly annoyed by the robot’s beeping. Giru hides as soon as he sees the animal on the screen. After that, the robot can be seen following a band making their way through the spaceport, looks to be a relatively high-profile group, too. And... Giru seems to remember them, playing a little tune as his fragmented memory.

And last, but most certainly not least, is where Onzola managed to spot him. Security footage shows him heading towards a ship... wait, is that a camel? Why is there a camel on Brench? HOW is there a camel on Brench? The gravity would be exceptionally painful, and... huh, that looks like a regular human.

“No way.” Mom blurts out, recognizing the person almost immediately. “Hassan?!”

Well, one answer leading to another mystery entirely. But you’ve got a lead to go on now. Mom manages to get information on where the Hassan guy was headed... and looks like it was indeed Imecka. Giru beeps excitedly when he recognizes the ship. Well, looks like you have your next destination set. But you have some time to spend before you leave the planet, so might as well make the most of it.

Videl decides to take some time to talk with some of the security officers, curious about how they handle incidents like the machine you just captured, and how they operate in general. Pantea on the other hand decides to take some time to talk with 15, 16, and 19. Uncle Raditz looks like he’s finished helping some of the officers train and might be off to grab some grub. And mom seems to want to take a bit more time looking through the ship logs to try and see if she can uncover anything else about Giru. Well, if he’s done with training, might be good to check on your uncle Raditz. Though, while there, you can also give Cocoa a head’s up on what’s been going on. Hah, she’ll be super surprised by what you’ve seen. He seems to be heading to a little outdoor bar with a couple of Brench Security Force officers.

“Haha, that kind of power is nuts, man. You Saiyans really are something else.” a man with short white hair and blue skin tells Raditz.

“You saw through every single trick we could pull. Only barely got through your defenses at the end there, and even then you took the hit like a pro.” the other officer, a younger man with long, brown hair done up in a ponytail a bit like yours, states.

“Of course, my family’s among the toughest Saiyans around. And I’ve been in plenty of situations like that before, believe me.” Raditz laughs out. “Toughest Saiyan, and tuffest Tuffle, uncle Raditz.” you remind him with a slight smirk on your face.

“Heh, true enough. Though perhaps the jury’s still out on that second title, you do have some competition for it still.” he replies, sitting down with the Brench officers.

Hah, guess that is true. But you’ll have your matches against them sooner or later. You bow your head respectfully to the officers. “And it is nice to meet you, sirs. Seems you’re off to some downtime. Hope you don’t mind a wily little niece tagging along to spend some time with her favorite uncle.”

“Hah, if I did I wouldn’t have three of them.” the brown-haired officer states.

You sit down with your uncle, asking the officers. “Do they have anything here aside from alcoholic drinks? And if so, what do you recommend?”

“Y’ might like the wings, but that depends on how spicy you can handle. Ours are preeeetty spicy.”

You grin and crack your knuckles. “Spicy, you say?”

And exactly 35 spicy shrimp wings (well, what tastes like shrimp but what they insist are “wings” of some aquatic animal) later, the officers look at you in awe and mild terror. “These aren’t bad!” you comment happily, your tail swaying behind you. Little greasy, thanks to whatever sauce they’re using, but hey, they’ve got a nice mild kick to them.

While Raditz has a few to try and save face, even he is sweating after 16 of them. “H-hah... g-gonna need something to wash these down. H-haha...”

Barkeep pours him a glass of bluish-purple liquid and slides it to him, your uncle chugging it down in one go.... as you ask for some more wings. “I knew Saiyan appetites were something else, but...”

“Takes a lot of energy to keep yourself going.” you comment. “Didn’t become champion by sitting around and munching on chips.” Or are they crisps here? “Though, that said, it really could have gone a few ways. I had to push myself to my limits and beyond and use strategy as best I could to claim my title.”

“Hah, no need to be so modest! Show some pride in your victory, Peppa.” Raditz declares, then downs another glass. “Ahh. I think I can taste things again.” he mumbles lowly.

“Speaking of the Tournament, I managed to fight alongside Jeice of the Ginyu Force during the prelims.” you mention as another plate of hot wings arrives.

“Oh yeah, I remember something about them entering the Tournament. Heh, ol’ Jeice doing well?” the white-haired man asks.

“Definitely! He helped me face off against this one weirdo who like... really hates me for reasons I still can’t completely comprehend, to be honest.” You take a few more wings before continuing, “In fact, she might have been by here some time. Girl named Basilea, has red skin and silver hair, but also horns and a red tail. REALLY dangerous, too, and has been trying to brutalize me... maybe ever since I first kicked her butt as a kid.”

“Huh, sounds like a real demon of a girl.”

You sigh. “You don’t know the half of it...”

“Hmm... that... does sound a little familiar.” the brown-haired officer comments. “We did get a strange visitor not too long ago. Was gone after starting a bar fight, just kinda vanished off the face of the planet. Girl with a tail...”

Uh oh. “Wait, what bar?”

“I’ll look up the report and forward it to Raditz.” he replies.

“You uh, good on the wings, Peppa?” your uncle asks.

“Mmm... sure! Think these are enough. Really nice! Compliments to the chef!”

The barkeep slides him a check, and Raditz flinches, then sighs. “...Well, my wallet thanks you.” He starts to head back with you, as you take some time to chat with Cocoa, telling her about what you saw today. Needless to say, she is surprised.

“Did it like, have acidic blood, or nanomachine blood, or what?” she asks.

“Didn’t damage it enough to get it to bleed or anything, but it seemed to be mostly mechanical. But it did get a guy in the face, and infected him with nanomachines that were eating away at his body.”

“Lime’s going to have nightmares as soon as I tell her.” Cocoa comments. “Hmm... was it just the creature, or did you sense anything else around there?”

“Just the creature.” you assure her. “Why?”

“Well... call it a hunch, but these things usually tend to have nests. The question is, is the next on-world, or off-world and those are the first scouts for an invasion.”

So what is Brench like, overall Kato?

Is it just a mishmash of France and Australia? What's the geography look like?
>>
>>3424318
It's probably like Neo-Tokyo from Akira with non-Euclidean architecture.

“I can send a picture of it to you, if you’d like. Made a sketch of it just a while ago.” you tell Cocoa. “Just a quick snapshot from these and it’ll be good.”

“Didn’t get a picture of the real thing?” she asks.

“Well, I could. You want a picture of the vicious face-attacking nightmare alien robot monster?”

“...The sketch is probably the better option.” Cocoa relents.

You giggle a little. “So... while I’m here, you want anything from Brench? We’ve still got a bit before we leave the planet.”

“Ah, I dunno Peppa... you don’t really have to get me much.” she replies. “...You want to anyway don’t you.” Cocoa adds, it sounding more like an accusation than a question.

Grinning cheekily, you tell her. “Hey, I’m here, might as well make the most of it.”

“You sure you don’t just want to get me a matching pair to go with your other gift?” she teases.

“Cocoaaaa... come on, I’m serious here.” Great. You will never live that down. Even when your hair turns grey and your face is as wrinkled as Baba’s, you will never live it down.

“Heehee. Okay, okay... how about this. There’s a certain band on Brench that I’ve... been kinda listening to recently. They don’t have a lot of merch here on Earth... but if you see something small. SMALL. Nothing too pricey. I’d like that.”

“Gotcha! ...What band?”

You take a quick detour to a shopping district with Raditz, exchanging some Zenni for their local currency... man, good thing for Raditz being here to help with that. You then scout around for a few shops... aha! There we go! A poster with that band on it! Huh, there’s a baseball paraphernalia store just along the way, and- ...is that Jeice?

“Oh yeah. He was a star player before he joined the Ginyu Force. Heh, kinda like Yamcha.” Raditz comments.

“Welp, gonna give that a look too.” You head over, checking on a few things before finding a neat little authentic Brench baseball. And with that, you decide to head back with Raditz.

“So, how was training with those guys, uncle Raditz?”

“It’s funny how it took me back to my time as part of Freeza’s Forces... and reminded me of how much I’d grown since then.” He smiles. “I must say though, they do seem to be a little... direct in how they deal with criminals, compared to the Galactic Patrol.”

“How so?”

“Well, the Security Forces here seem to have a much more military style of confrontation. Can’t say I blame them though, trying to play the delicate balancing act of independence. While the Galactic Patrol, the PTO, and a few other smaller systems all do what they can to flaunt their influence, some try to take to the place to make a few quick bucks. Some... more than that. Mafia problems, especially ones focused on gambling enterprises, that are a little hard to stamp out. As a result, they tend to be very strict where they can, to keep those mafia influences from gaining any more of a foothold.”

>A. How strict? Are the mafia problems here really that bad?

While there are some questions that are rushing through your mind, you probably don’t want to pry too much. Instead, you simply ask, partially out of true curiosity, “How’s it compare to Earth’s? I know that there’s bound to be plenty of differences, but... well, what’s the overlap?”

“Hah. Would you believe it if I said the Earth’s legal system is more complicated?” your uncle chuckles. “Brench doesn’t have a significant jury system, for example. High conviction rates, as well. But the dealing of punishment for crimes tends to be handled by panels of legal experts. The Security Forces likewise tend towards apprehending criminals through overwhelming force, though more because of the higher levels of strength common on the planet. Very big on minimizing property damage though.”

“Are they... especially cruel, or anything?”

Raditz rubs the side of his head. “Hard to say for sure. Apparently mafia activity makes it hard to really get a handle on certain things like gambling and smuggling, so they go all out whenever they are able to. It keeps the peace, for sure, but it’s a peace that they seem to constantly struggle with.”

You sigh softly. “Um... is there anything we might be able to do to help, like on Earth, or is that kinda overstepping our bounds?”

He laughs happily. “That you’re even thinking about such a thing shows your mind’s in the right place, kid. Personally, I wouldn’t want to get too involved in their affairs. I’ve learned my lessons about forcing my opinions on others, and got a rude awakening when I learned how small a fish I’d become thanks to your aunt Chi-chi. I’ve learned more from how the Galactic Patrol does what it can to minimize danger to others... and how some have very, er, ‘creative’ interpretations of that. But most importantly, I’ve learned from your mother and father to lead by example. Not so much force your point of view, but show what it is and how it helps. Kakarot became a Super Saiyan, the first in a thousand years, to protect your mother, a Tuffle. Maple followed her own path away from what Raichi intended and towards protecting the last vestiges of our races’ planet, Saiyan and Tuffle alike. People listen to them because they don’t seek to change everything on a grand scale, but are willing to work things out on the small scale first. They lead by example.”

You look forward as those last few words repeat on your lips. “Lead by example, huh?”
