You are Ushi Walker, the half-japanese/half-american wielder of the mighty quirk “Everything is Bigger in Texas", U.A High first year student, class 1-A VP and one of the members of what you'd call Team A, the first five students to enter the domed fake city today's trial is going to take place in.

With Creati, Earphone Jack and Chargebolt by your side, you are sure you'll do well and Grape Juice's help only makes you more confident.

So with All-Might asking your group if you want to go first, there's only one possible answer you can say.

"C'mon Y'all! Let's show 'em how it's done!" You say, raising your hand to horn level and pointing at the gate, looking over your shoulder and motioning for your team to follow you.

It almost makes you slam into All Might, barely stopping in your tracks when you start looking forwards.

"Eagerness is always admirable!" He says, taking a step back and away from you, holding at arm's reach a small case full of what you recognize as the same small radio transceivers you got for the battle trial. "But leave rushing in without a plan for dire emergencies, Young Walker."

"Thanks, but Ah brought my own." You tell him as you step aside and dig into the newest pouch on your belt, letting your teammates grab theirs as you put yours on and fiddle with the frequency.

>"In any case, you shouldn't start using your quirks until you cross the gate and the timer starts running." Cementoss points out, standing by said gate.

>"So, after we enter the city…" Chargebolt starts, smirking and looking at Creati.

>"As soon as possible." She answers with a nod. "I've given thought at the electrolaser's design. It will be simpler to make and far more power-efficient per discharge… After all, we'll likely need you conscious here."

>"Sweet!" The blond boy says, pumping his fist.

>"Do I get something?" Grape Juice asks, walking to stand between Creati and you.

>"Platform shoes, maybe." Earphone Jack tells him, kneeling to double check her shin-speakers.

Oddly enough, she can look at him in the eye when kneeling, and she's not especially short.

For your part, you dig again through your pouches to leave a few select items within easy access.

Your phone and Tin, your tiny robot and a loaf of texas toast. A tiny Mag-lite, a miniature length of rope, a crowbar, a pack of six ChemLights and a miniature First Aid Kit. Everything a prepper doll or a gal with a mass transfer quirk could need.

>"Alright, whenever you are ready." Creati says as you finish fiddling with your belt, taking the lead and standing at the front of the group.

"Glowsticks, flashlight, <MIT beatstick>, rope and a <FAK>… Tin and related too." You list out as you snap your pouches shut. "Yeah, we ready pal."

>"Remember, you have 10 minutes to do as much as you can." Cementoss tells you as you follow Creati into the dark, vaulted mock city.

As soon as all of you cross the threshold, the doors close behind you, leaving you in the dark.

The first you can see in the dim light of the dark city is the roundabout right in front of you, currently devoid of anything or anyone other than you and your teammates.

The second and third come hand in hand, as a single large building seems to be the only case in sight of a building remaining fully illuminated, almost looking like a beacon amidst the stygian cityscape, with the red cross atop it hinting at its purpose.

"Ah think Ah found sumthin…" You announce, tapping your earpiece and looking the third thing that caught your attention, an almost invisible plume of smoke raising by the side of the shining hospital, shifting the hue of the building's white walls ever so slightly. The fact that your nose can pick up the smell of carper burning some blocks away also helps. "Sumethin's burnin' between us and the hospital."

>"We are all right here." Grape Juice answers, not using the radio. "I guess we need to go ch-"

>"Hold it! Someone's burning rubber!" Earphone Jack interrupts him, taking a knee and stabbing the concrete with one of her jacks, pointing with the other like a divining rod. "South east from here but closing, someone's driving this way far over the speed limit… It hit something… Didn't stop."

>"Alright girls, what are we doing?" Chargebolt asks through the radio, holding a hand to his headset. "Because I'm not the smartest bloke on the block, but I don't think you can zap cars or fires to a stop."

>"Loanstar, Iend me a hand here." Creati then says, handing you two small boxes and two cylinders that you don't waste any time enlarging into a useful size.

As you expected, Creati only took a couple of seconds to assemble the tubes into what you'd call a microwave shotgun if you didn't already know what it did. The fact that this one has a pump handle does catch you by surprise though, but Chargebolt seems to like it, immediately pumping it after Creati tossed it his way.

>"Alright. Chargebolt and Grape Juice he hit and run is yours. You should be able to stop anyone dead on their tracks and handle any villains before they get close, but check that they are before shocking anyone. Then go check whatever it was that they hit." Creati orders them, pointing in the direction Earphone Jack had pointed at. "Loanstar… I'll need you to lend me Tin. I can deal with a small to medium fire, but I'll likely need help evacuating if the structure is too far gone. You and Earphone Jack should go ahead to the noreast. Your senses are the best and you should be able to either stop and handle anything or stall and call for back-up."

I wonder if Momo ever realized our horrible fear of fire after the villans attack or they just think it's normal fear.

Also it's good to see that Momo isn't having confidence issue like she had after losing in the tournament.

Better art?
---
Hearing the plan, you quickly place Tin on the ground, laying your hands on it and restoring it to its original, massive size in a puff of white mist before tossing your phone to Creati's hands.

>"At your service!" The robot says, sounding not unlike an eager child.

"Take care of them." You tell Creati, receiving a nod in return before turning towards Earphone Jack. "EJ, let's go see what else lurks in the night!"

All of you share a brief glance before turning around and running off the roundabout, each mini-team taking to the streets with a mission.

All but Creati, who hops on to Tin's back and rides off into the night, followed by the sounds of its treads. You are just a tad jealous of that.

>"When you finish what you are doing, if there's no situation nearby, start moving towards the hospital and ask if you are needed elsewhere." Creati directs you through the radio. "If you do find something nearby, notify everyone! Even if you think you can handle it!"

"Roger that!" You reply with a hand on your earpiece, running north and keeping your eyes peeled.

>"I wanted to go with the reps..." Grape Juice whines as he and Chargebolt dash towards the southeast.

>"Me too." His partner replies, with your radios making sure you hear it clearly. "Let's get this done quickly and regroup!"

>"We can hear you!" Earphone jack growls back, running by your side with a hand on her own earpiece. Then she lets go of the earpiece and turns to you, pointing to the side. "Turn right here!"

You don't hesitate to follow her lead, taking the corner with her, even though you don't know why.

"Did ya hear anythin' over there?" You ask her, feeling like you are getting farther away from where Creati told you to go.

>"Lots of things!" She answers, turning northward again at the next corner. "Not a crash… Too many cars for that."

Then you get it. Your ears can't make out what the hell the cacophony ahead is, but it doesn't feel like something small happening close, but a gigantic mess several blocks away, a theory supported by the stench of oil and gas lazily drifting south.

"Ah reckon that sounds like a crisis to me!" You tell Earphone Jack, accelerating a bit more and bring your hand to your ear again. "Ah think we got a pile-up nearby! We can't see Ah'll keep you posted!"

>"We got a truck running at full speed at us!" Chargebolt announces through the radio.

>"They won't get past this corner though!" Grape Juice adds. "If they don't stop when asked, they'll get stuck on the spot!"

>"Great!" Creati comments, cutting herself off. "Er… Good job everyone, shame it's happening. Tin sees the fire starting at an hotel. I didn't know its cameras were that good!"

>"...-anks! It's some of M…-ma's best work." Tin says, honing into the frequency as it speaks.

>"Okay…" Creati says, sounding somewhat uncomfortable. "I'll go dark while I deal with the fire!"

>"About fires…" Earphone Jack starts, falling a bit behind but still running by your side. "If it's a pile-up, won't it catch fire soon?"

"Not every car's a Pinto, pal." You answer, scrunching your nose. "But that does smells like a gas leak and a half."

>"I hope it won't blow up, then." Earphone Jack asserts as you come to see the pile-up in the distance.

It's a weird scene, with the cars looking like metallic versions of the blocky wooden car-frames you used to play with back home. But maybe that's a good thing, as the twelve blocky mock-cars you can spot leaking gas all over the place could have been horrifying to behold in reality.

It's not exactly massive, and there's only a single car over a few of the others, but you would bet your bottom dollar no one in the center cars can get out.

That, plus the fact that the only silhouettes you can see moving seem to be robots closer in shape to the stretcher-carrying robots than Tin or the standard combat robots sparks some worries in you.

If there's gas, that's a hazard and we need to get them out of there. Kyoka can make sure we don't shift anything on top of people and comfort them.

Igniting an accelerate should make a sound that EJ can hear. Have her keep an ear out for it while we work. We shouldn't need to emphasize how important that is.

And if we can do so without significant penalty:
>Pull out your mag-light first. Don’t want to step on any civilians in the dark, and you’ll have it ready so you can see in the crisis.

Sure, that mess isn't bound to light up by itself… But the fumes will pool together and get worse with every passing second, eventually being able to intoxicate every civilian around…

Sure, it's all robots, but you are meant to consider them as if they were civilians.

Which now that you think about it, could easily add the needed spark the gas fumes require to blow it all to kingdom come.

"Alright pal, Ah'll separate the cars, you gotta calm down the... civilians…" You say, taking a knee and getting your hand on the concrete below, feeling yourself connect to the street itself and pulling as much mass as you can from it without causing a sinkhole or tearing the piping apart.

Working on overdrive, you reach into your belt and pull the matchstick sized Mag-lite out of the pouch you put it in, quickly enlarging it until its handle fits comfortably inside your closed fist.

With that taken care off, you continue sprinting towards the mess for a second, wary of suddenly putting a few dozen tons over the newly weakened ground.

"...and calm them down if needed, 'kay!?" You distractedly tell your pal, placing your hand on your thigh and enlarging yourself, enveloping yourself in blinding yet whispy white mist before it dissipates, letting you see over the rooftops of some of the larger structures, over everything that's not a multistory building and rattling every window you can see, but not shattering anything.

>"Yo-oof! My fucking ea-!..." Earphone Jack starts, but is interrupted by your now massive hand closing around her torso, squeezing the air out of her lungs by accident. "...Guts too, fuck… Maybe calm down yourself, Star... And warn me next time… Ow."

"Sorry! And Ah meant help them!" You reply, shifting your grip on her to avoid any further accidents as you sprint down the wide street, covering hundreds of yards in a couple of seconds, even if just growing that much made you feel like you had run a couple extra blocks.

With your giant Mag-lite in hand, it was easy for you to both avoid stepping on cars and help the civilian robots see you coming.

>"Alright girl, let me down!" Earphone Jack demands as soon as you get close enough to the pile-up to illuminate it from above, something you begrudgingly agree to.

Not because you wanted to keep holding her, of course, but that's how'd you'd talk to animals, and it's hard to take it any other way.

>"Alright everybody, the heroes are here!" Earphone Jack announces, planting her foot on the hood of a mostly intact "car" and connecting one of her jacks into the speaker on her shin, making her voice boom. "I'm Earphone Jack and the big girl here's Loanstar, please clear the area if you can while we clean this up! If you can't, stay put and we'll help you out."

"Howdy!" You say, nodding at the gathering of comparatively diminutive robots almost directly under you.

>"Hi!" Some of them reply, looking up at you and waving.
>>
Looking at them with more attention, you have to stifle a giggle. Turns out whoever was in charge of the robots found an oddly cheap way to humanize them.

They are all wearing hats and other accessories. Baseball caps, ripped school caps, stetsons, fedoras, ribbons and even a tie… tied above its camera.

>"In the middle, there!" A robot calls out, pointing at the middle of the pile up.

Looking at it from above, you can see little other than the boxy metallic roofs and plastic windshields, forcing you to go with the next best thing.

"EJ, what's going on at ground level?" You ask your partner, taking a knee to have a better look at the crowd and pile-up, to little effect other than forcing you to breathe in a lungful of gas fumes.

>"Two to four ro-civilians!" She says, hopping into the roof of the car and stabbing her jacks into two cars in the middle of the pile up, the ones with another car over it. "They are panicking and thrashing! Take this thing off them!"

Doesn't quite sound like a good idea...

There was no doubt in his mind, the tight grip of his wife's hand on his own was the only reason why he could stay put on his seat. His little girl was screaming and crying less than a minute ago and her newfound silence was no less disturbing than her blood curdling shrieks and heartrending bawling.

Johnatan didn't need to see her hooves scraping against the tiled floor to know Kat was barely keeping it together, feeling her tail wrapped tight around his waist was more than enough proof. Knowing that if he were to lose his cool Kat would follow suit, he did as when he had to fix ancient analogous devices and kept his frayed nerves on a box in the back of his mind. He couldn't allow himself to fly off the handle until he knew for certain everything was okay.

Then the geese would pay.

"彼女は大丈夫ですか?!" Katsumi loudly asked, glaring daggers at the nurse exiting the operating room.

He could fully understand the terror in the young man's eyes as his wife demanded an answer.

"Huh!?... Sorry… I-I didn't quite catch that?..." He tried to make sense of Katsumi's words while simultaneously trying to hide behind his clipboard. Johnatan didn't really get the question himself, but he felt like any answer would be welcome.

"彼女! は! 大丈夫ですか?!" Katsumi repeated, more slowly this time.

Slow enough for Johnatan to understand the gist of it, even with his good for nothing japanese. With a question ending in "is okay?" it would have been hard to miss it.

"Son, the wife and I would like to know how's our little girl doin'. Is she okay?" He asked the nurse, taking off his hat and holding it over his chest, keeping his wife's hand firmly grasped in his free hand and taking care to not let her tail slip off him. "Please, we'd really like to know what to do…"

With some more familiar words and less than two feet of sharp horns pointing in his direction, the nurse seemed to be able to fall back to his training, suddenly remembering what he was there for.

"Ah, yes, yes. Mr and Mrs. Walker, I have little more than good news for you." He started, flipping a single page back and forth on the clipboard. "Little U… Ushi? What a cute name. Japanese?"

"Yeah! See? He thinks it's cute!" Johnatan immediately blurted out, much to his wife's annoyance.

"そして、彼女はそれを忘れることはありません." Katsumi snarks. "No good."

"Well, as I was saying, although Ushi managed to break her femur, it's only a greenstick fracture… Aptly enough." The nurse explained, scratching the back of his neck and handing the clipboard to the worried father. "We have her on painkillers for now, but we are ready to proceed with an open reduction and fixation if you approve of the procedure..."

But neck scratching is not something Johnatan would ignore at this point, taking a moment to read what the heck was he signing for.

"Son, I ain't no medic, but I know my wood." Johnatan pointed out, seeing the man grow nervous. "These are far too many screws for a simple fracture."

"Well… A sizeable part of her femur seems to be abscessing along the grain, as if discarding the damaged wood." The nurse admits. "Everything we know about human wood says that it should graft itself back in little time if we keep them together, but we don't know why her body is trying to split her femur practically in half… Especially with how much it seemed to hurt her."

"桂?" Katsumi says, tilting and reiterating. "Katsura?... Forget. Dumb."

It took Johnatan a few seconds to understand the point, but he mulled it over.
Kat herself may still dismiss her own thoughts and ideas, but he knew she was a smart gal, he had never seen her start talking without having anything to say.

Eventually it hit him, and he signed the form.

"Go on kid, get my girl back on her feet." He said, waiting until the young man disappeared into the operating room to slump forwards and bury his face in his hands.

Katsura is a pretty pragmatic plant, he recalled now, opting to get rid of whatever damaged parts it had if repairing it would be more expensive than just regrowing it.

He understood new why her pain only seemed to get worse as they drove to the nearest hospital. Her own bone was tearing itself apart, which sounded painful enough, but he was one of few who could recall the feeling of splinters digging into flesh from the inside.

Was this going to happen every time? Would they have to keep her from everything dangerous? How would they even tell her she couldn't climb trees anymore?

Before he could continue spiraling down in despair and concern however, he felt his wife's arm around his shoulders, hugging him close against her chest, prompting him to reach between her horns and softly pat her head.

It took her a while, but Kat eventually learned to love the american approach to public displays of affection, doing it without a care.

As they sat there, Johnatan stopped worrying so much. He still cared as much as always, but he wasn't so worried anymore. They would figure it out, and help their little girl get as far as they could on whatever road she chose…

After eradicating every single goose on the ranch though.
He wasn't going to risk having any of the bastards startle Ushi when she was playing outside again, up a tree or not.

There were many things that her classmates could do and say to rain on Ushi's parade and ruin her mood. They were all fans of the kind of underhanded insult that she would only understand hours after hearing it and using codes she was never told how they worked.

One of the few that could never work, however, were the jabs at her work with the calves at the ranch.

They could rag on her as much as they wanted, ask if they were all hers or if they were her siblings, but she would never let anyone dissuade her from personally caring of the little fellas.

They needed her.

No matter how easy it was for anyone to actually look up what they needed to know, there was still a fair share of cowboy wannabes that thought getting a Stetson and a truck was all they needed to start raising cattle.

Same kind of dimwits that would buy heifers destined to the slaughterhouse and attempt to breed them without looking at why would someone do that. Most would end with a barren one and either give up or look for someone who knew to show them the ropes.

But the worst were those who thought that breeding a runty heifer with a large bull would "even 'em up".

The poor cows rarely survived, leaving their needy offspring alone in the world…

Few good things ever came from that sort of mess. With calves needing so much care and often having a more than a little sketchy bloodline, they were dirt cheap, so it didn't take too much begging to her parents to let her start her own nursery.

She was only allowed to save four, two females and two males, and she would have to sell them or put them to work when they became young bulls and heifers, but that was more than enough to give her a reason to hop off bed every morning at the first ray of sunlight, running to the old barn to check on her ragtag bunch of calves.
Shorthorn, longhorn, angus, holstein. None of them were pureblood, nor were they related, just four calves that formed their own little herd, huddling all together over the giant blanket Ushi gave them.

Sometimes, after a particularly awful day, she would join them in their cuddle pile, being surrounded and licked until her only hurts were the rashes on her face and arms.
