“And that is what we have uncovered, King Ralis.” you explain to the Zora king. “Horon here intends to head down the mountain to give warning soon, aided by another of my allies. But since you are closest to the Fortress, you are in the best position to prepare for it... yet also one of their first targets.”

He rests his chin on his right knuckles. “I see... this could be more danger than we were expecting. Thank you, miss Termina, and all your allies, for giving us this warning.”

“Heh, was no big deal.” Aveli replies assuredly. “Any chance to teach those pups a lesson again is worth it.”

He stands and walks to you all. “Should you require a night’s rest, we would be willing to cover it. It is the least we can do to repay you for saving our people yet again.”

“That would be quite helpful. To be honest, even escaping that place was quite a struggle. Thank you, King Ralis.” You give a humble curtsy as you bow your head.

He nods. “We will be able to prepare a place soon. Escorts...” He calls forth a couple guards, who begin to lead your group to a cozy-looking inn. A place typical of Zora architecture, though with a slightly more homely vibe to it. Not quite extravagant, but comforting. The beds you’re shown to, in a room with six in total, seem more traditionally Hylian, though curiously not quite square but more oval-shaped, the blankets for them seem to be made from more feathery materials.

Aveli down collapses on one. “Wooooow~! This stuff feels great! Aahh it feels like a cloud!”

Horon sits in a bed of his own. “Huh, strange style.”

“Kinda reminds me of a nest.” Lynna states, getting to one of her own. “Wow, this is comfy...”

Sheik stands by you as you sit down at the edge of one. “Princess,” she addresses quietly, “It is likely they will still be after us, even into the morning. While I doubt they would attack this settlement openly, I also suspect they would be waiting down any paths we would take, setting up ambushes.”

That sours the mood just a bit, but she does have a point. Horon lays back. “Eh, I’ll be fine, just me and that Keaton guy will be able to slip past any patrols.”

>A. I will make sure Keaton wakes you early, then, to get a head start
>B. Maybe we should take a route they wouldn’t expect, are there any passes that could get us to our next destination without heading through usual routes?

“I will make sure Keaton wakes you early then, Horon, so you get a good head start.” you tell the boy with a kind smile.

“He needs it.” Felicia comments, the fairy flying around his head. “Sadly I can’t drag him out myself.”

“Oh hush.” Horon grumbles. “And thanks. I won’t let you down.”

“As for the rest of us... maybe we should take a route they would not expect. Are there any passes that will lead us closer to our next destination? Without going through usual routes?”

Sheik ponders for a moment, then telling you, “There is a path that leads to Eldin Town, where there is a bridge that connects the area to Death Mountain. It is a slightly more roundabout route, but one that should prove manageable if we leave early.”

“Still a while before the next new moon, so we may be able to manage it, but we should make haste when we can. Keaton will need to wake us as well.” You start to set your acquired items and equipment down next to the bed you’ve chosen. “Everyone should get some sleep soon.”

“Heh, no trips to their bath house, huh?” Lynna asks, flinching slightly as she lifts her leg. “Tch...” She checks on it, noticing a bruise where the Darknut Prince’s helmet hit. “Ow. Looks like I was right.” She does what she can to heal it.

>A. Lynna, I do feel I should remind you that this is still quite dangerous. Are you sure you wish to continue, or would you rather Horon escort you back?
>B. Do you think you might need a potion for that? You were walking fine before, but that could still be the adrenaline from the chase. My own arms are... admittedly a little sore

“Do you think you might need a potion for that? I know you were walking fine before, but that may have been the adrenaline from the chase.” You place your left hand on your right bicep, massaging it a little. “My own arms are... admittedly a little sore.”

“You did pick me up and carry me out of there at full sprint like a mad woman.” Lynna returns, giggling. “You do remember I am a bit older and heavier than you, right?” Her voice lowers as she adds, with a soft smile, “And our Princess being the one doing the carrying, how scandalous.”

“I acted on impulse, truly.” you tell her calmly. “You were injured and would have difficulty running. If the same happened to me, I know I could count on you all to assist in similar manner.”

“You got that right, Z.” Aveli affirms, rolling in the bed a little. “Ahhh so cozy~”

“I’ve been trained to protect you since I was young. I would in a heartbeat.” Sheik seriously remarks, her eyes closed as you notice her shake a little.

“Oh sure I-” Horon stops himself for a moment, his face reddening, then head shaking as he seems to try to remove a thought from his mind. “Aheh, o-of course! Of course...”

Lynna giggles at him, then nods at you. “Even not knowing... everything I do know, I’d do the same, yes.”

“And I thank you all for that. I know I can trust all of you in trying to save Hyrule.” As you sit up in the bed, you look to the Gerudo girl again. “Aveli, if we have the chance, could you contact the Gerudo in some way regarding the magical enchantments they know? That cannon we saw has drawn my curiosity, especially after seeing what we did in the Fortress. That and I think they may know some way to prepare for it more than any.”

“Heh, sure, Z.” She hops up off the bed and gets out some paper, beginning to write something. “Hey, Horon, when you head out, I want you to mail this letter out too. Should get to my mom pretty quick.”

“All righty.”

You sit on the bed’s edge, then ask, “You have been in the area we intend to go before, where you saw that knight, correct? Valenz Town? What can you tell us about the area?”

“Valenz Town is a little chilly, colder than here, I think-” You hear Aveli and Lynna both sigh and grumble just a little as they hear that. “-but it’s not unbearable. That knight in golden armor was pretty tough, too. Wonder what he’s up to now...?”

“I mean more to the point of what to expect up there. What were the monsters like, the people, anything of that sort? And do you think you might know anything about the Great Sky Temple?”

“Um... maybe.” Horon rubs the back of his neck, trying to recall everything. “Monsters are probably gonna still be pretty tough up there. Weren’t much a challenge for the knight, but he seemed rather experienced with them. Similar to this region, but WAY more Keese. Like, absurd amounts of them. Ice Keese especially. A few of Death Mountain’s resident monsters too. Hmm... people, they seemed friendly enough, though didn’t REALLY spend a lot of time chatting with them. And... Sky Temple. If there is something like that up there, it’s well-hidden. No idea how anyone would get to it anyway.”

“Then that should be enough. Everyone, get the rest you need, we will be off at dawn.” You settle yourself in, readying for a nice, long rest.

[Hearts and Magic restored!]

As morning comes, Keaton doing as you requested and pulling Horon out of his bed, everyone well rested, you all wish him and Keaton well as they head off, then leave the town yourselves. Sheik points out the path to Eldin Town, and you get started on the way there. As you do though... you notice some fresh snow on the ground. Snow with large hoofprints stamped through it.

“...Lynel in this area.” Sheik confirms as she looks over it. “This may prove more difficult than I’d thought.”

>A. We continue forward anyway, one Lynel we can still manage

As a nod to this we should take care about the tracks and what is actually out there and in what numbers, but we shouldn't waste time hunting.

You look down at the tracks yourself. Seems to only be the one, thankfully, but it’s still one. “We will have to march forward. One Lynel is easier to keep watch out for than a group of Darknuts. Do not engage if possible, but be ready to fight or flee should it notice us.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-Iz_O6351U

You lead your allies forward, the cold air causing all of you to shiver a bit, but it is a bit warmer than the path up to Snowpeak Fortress, at least. The golden rays of sunlight starting to illuminate the area. Keeping an eye on the tracks, you notice they’ve picked up substantially... and lead to a patch of red on the snow. They head off into the distance, not quite on the path you’re traveling on... and then they stop.

“...Thaaat’s ominous.” Aveli states, looking at the tracks.

Sheik notices something gleam in the distance. “...It seems to have jumped, trying to avoid something. And... this fresh snow seems odd, does it not?” she points out. “Look ahead. If this were a blizzard that passed through, there would be greater bits of snowfall, but this... this seems like it hit at random.”

“Hmm...” Well, you have an idea on what might cause such a thing to happen, but you also must admit, you do not like it.

A soft gasp from Lynna draws your attention, the young woman tugging at your shirt. You look in her direction... and see the Lynel, preparing to cook a fresh kill. It hasn’t noticed you yet. But it very easily could, should you move any further. The area ahead is fairly flat and open.

You bring out your shield. “Guess now is as good a time as ever. I am going to take a page out of Horon’s book and apply an Ice enchantment to our shields. We will use them to get across the snow more swiftly.” Your shield gains a frigid sheen over it, then you get to Lynna’s and Sheik’s.

“Er, bit of an issue here.” Aveli notes.

“Issue with wha- oh. Right. You do not have one.” You set your shield down. “You can ride with me.”

“Not that.” Aveli states. “But that may be helpful.” You look at her, slightly confused, then notice she’s not looking in your direction. She’s looking in the Lynel’s direction. And it is looking at all of you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCpZjwOR-QI

“...We should get going.” Lynna states, starting off. Sheik follows, and you and Aveli get on your shield and push off with it.

The Lynel lets out a loud, thunderous roar and you hear the stomping of its massive hooves behind you. You start sliding across the open area, realizing it’s not quite as flat as it appears, but rather has a slight incline that causes you to build up speed. Not quite as quickly as you’d hoped, though, as the stomping gets closer and closer... then, ominously, stops.

“Is it trying to jump?” you ask Aveli, trying to keep focus on what’s ahead, the shield sliding across the snow.

“No... no it’s pulling out a bow! AH CRAP, Z, DUCK!” Aveli shoves your head down as an arrow just narrowly misses the two of you... leaving a frost trail above you as it passes by. It then slams into the snow and explodes into a large, solid chunk of ice. You’re able to pull up just enough that you don’t strictly crash into it, but rather... ramp off it and into the air. The two of you fall into the snow hard enough that you and Aveli roll through it, you finally faceplanting a short distance away as Aveli sticks the landing.

She grabs the shield and helps you up, Lynna and Sheik managing to avoid any trouble as all of you look back. The Lynel... isn’t chasing you. Oh thank the Goddesses. Ugh, your face feels a little co-

“Pfftt... pffahahahaha! I-I’m sorry, just...” Aveli points and laughs. “You look like a cream tart, Z.”

You wipe your face off as your allies struggle not to giggle as well, even Sheik. “Well, we passed through that danger. How close are we?”

“S-still a ways away, but that made some good time.” Sheik notes, looking ahead. “The snow stops fairly abruptly not too far from here. We should be cautious.”

The path does seem to split ahead. A more snowy one, and one where the snow stops abruptly. Hmm... the Ice enchantment will still last for a bit, you may be able to make some better time if you go down the snowy path. And you hopefully won’t faceplant like you just did.

“Though this proved useful...” You put away the shield. “We should stay away from any more snowy paths. The less cold, the better. Let’s get going.”

“Music to my ears.” Aveli comments, looking back again to make sure the Lynel isn’t following you.

Leading the girls down the path not covered in snow, you think to ask, “Sheik, next time we head through such an area, do you think it might be wise to invest in some proper snow shoes? I have heard rumor of certain boots that allow one to move through water more easily, do you know of anything like that for snow?”

She shakes her head. “I have not, my apologies.”

“That is fair. Merely a thought.”

The path ahead, while not covered in as much snow, still has a noticeable wind chill. The air gets a bit more arid though, and there’s a strange scent of... dust, you think? in the area. A ways ahead, you notice a curious sight; there are a few Bokoblins and a Moblin all mounted on large boars moving through the area. They seem to be looking for something. You direct everyone to head to a treeline as you observe, Sheik climbing up to get a better vantage point.

When she gets back down, she tells you, “Eldin Town is still about an hour away from our current position. There seem to be parties like this one along the road ahead, though. I am not sure what their goal is, but I counted at least three in total, each with similar makeup.”

That's a weird phrasing, if proper snowshoes are the first thing she talked about, then Sheik would know of something like that for snow.
>>
>>3371319
She's talking about normal snow shoes first, and later an enchanted pair of shoes for passing it without effort, presumably by walking right on it without sinking.

You ready your shield. “We head through as quickly as possible, then. Move past these parties with haste, and use everything you can to get by, but the longer we let them slow us down, the more danger we put ourselves in.” You get in a sprinting stance, then yell out, “FORWARD!” as you charge forth.

Aveli wastes no time in getting ahead thanks to the Belt of Winds, managing to tackle the first Moblin off his steed, setting the boar off in a panic. You and Sheik follow past, blocking the blows from the Bokoblins as they fire stones with slingshots at the two of you, Lynna sticking with you as you charge. Aveli’s speed alerts the groups ahead, who start to chase after her, leaving them open to you, Sheik, and Lynna as you move forward.

In the rush, though, Lynna fails to unbalance the monsters with the Gale Boomerang, though it does dizzy them enough that you’re able to get a well-placed strikes with the Sword Beam that knocks the three off their mounts, Sheik hitting them with a Deku Nut as you pass by. The final group does catch on the three of you heading their way, Lynna’s hookshot missing the Moblin’s weapon as she tries to grab it, but you again manage to strike it with a Sword Beam that knocks it down the Moblin off its mount, Sheik again managing to hit the others with a Deku Nut to blind them.

You’re just about to make it past... when one of the frightened boars charges your way, ramming into you from the side and knocking you down before running off. Not much damage, but ow. Your pride.

[Hearts: 10.75/11]

Lynna gets you to your feet as Sheik watches your backs, the three of you panting heavily after the run. The monsters seem more confused by what all just happened than anything, and aren’t giving chase just yet. You made it. And only another faceplant to show for it. “H-heh, you’re going to gain a reputation at this rate.” Lynna comments, trying not to giggle.

“I am aware. Thank you.” you mumble in response. “Still, we have passed them, yes?”

“And took a good 20 minutes off our jog.” Aveli states. “I think I can see the town up ahead.”

The three of you gather to her. It does indeed look like there’s a town ahead... but, that’s odd. It seems... strangely empty. No one walking the streets, no travelers or merchants heading in or out of it. And that... dusty smell is in the air again. Worrying, but you still need to march forward. For Hyrule’s sake.

“If I were to guess, it has something to do with the swine we passed reaching here.” Aveli comments.

“Which means they could still be in the area. We may not be able to avoid a confrontation here.” Sheik states, hand on her sword.

“Stick to the shadows, stay in cover. We should be as cautious as possible and sneak through here.” you tell your allies, heading towards one of the buildings. Sheik takes the initiative and climbs up to a higher vantage point, keeping watch for any foes ahead. She looks down to where you, Lynna, and Aveli are hiding, signaling three enemies that she can see, patroling the streets.

Peeking your head out... you see them. Trio of Moblins, armed with crossbows. You signal for Aveli and Lynna to head around as you do what you can to sneak past, spotting the guards’ patterns and moving around barrels. You spot a metal bucket some distance away. Hmm. Idea. You get a rock from the side of one of the buildings and toss it at the bucket while one of the Moblins isn’t looking, drawing their attention to the bucket and letting you bolt past him without alerting the monster.

With the first one’s attention on the bucket, the second looks over to him, snorting as he does. “Stragglers?” the monster asks.

“Nah, just this shoddy place falling apart.” the first remarks, picking up the bucket. “Hylians spook easily, any left would be made an example of.”

“Hrrlgh. Don’t like this. Should be more.” the first one bemoans, slapping his stomach. “Was looking for a meal, not picking up the table scraps.”

...What they’re implying is... curious. The monsters might not be the cause of this after all. Still, no time to dwell on this. You head past them, then spot the final monster patrolling what looks to be the market area. A Potion shop, armory, few dining places... wait. You see something in the window of a bar. A cloaked figure, hiding well from the monster, but you’re able to see it just well enough to notice their face is covered, and all you can really see are a glimpse of the person’s eyes... red eyes.

You look up again to where Sheik is, who seems to notice the individual as well. By the time you both look back, they’re gone. Curious. Very curious. Still, you need to make it past this last Moblin. And you get an idea, seeing Lynna and Aveli ahead of you. You signal Lynna to ready her Gale Boomerang. The dusty dirt on the ground is what you’ve been smelling, so best to use it to your advantage. Lynna flings it out when the Moblin isn’t looking, causing a small dust devil that obscures its vision, you using Farore’s Wind to move past as it’s distracted.

“Hrah! Damn place!” it grunts at the dust devil, rubbing its eyes. Lynna’s able to get her Boomerang back and head on with you, Aveli, and Sheik. Out of their line of sight, and well past them noticing you talking.

You and Sheik look at one another. “...So, was that-?”

“May have been one of us, yes.” Sheik tells you. “Last I recall though we do not have any significant bases in the-” She leans against a dust-covered rock... one that moves slightly, causing her to back up. A Gossip Stone? “...area.”

You place the Mask of Truth on your face and approach the Gossip Stone, placing your hand on it... then you give stone a good whack. It laughs, and then tells you in words heard in secret...

"Boing-oing! Ruby red eyes watch the town of secrets, protecting the people, guarding the path to the future...”

Well. That’s... unique. “I believe it is telling us that the Sheikah watch over this town.”

Sheik looks at it skeptically. “...Our people do what we can to keep watch of Hyrule, for certain, but our central residence is still quite some distance from here.”

“It further mentions... guarding the path to the future.” you add, rubbing your chin. “Hmm. Perhaps there are more secrets to this town than first appear.”

You put away the Mask of Truth. “While this is interesting, and has certainly drawn my curiosity, we still have places to be. We can return here another time.”

“Understood.” Sheik states with a nod, walking with you, Aveli and Lynna following.

While you do pass by the monsters without incident, you can’t help but want to turn back for just one last peak... spotting a strange blue rock tossed from the bar you spotted the Sheikah in. Glowing brightly, one of the monsters notices it, picking it up... only to have an arrow shot at the rock, resulting in it exploding in the monster’s face. A bomb? A small bomb. Didn’t seem especially strong, but packed enough of a punch to catch the monster by surprise.

Though everyone else notices such a thing as well, you hurry them along, getting them out of the dusty town and marching forward. Thankfully the trail ahead isn’t especially dangerous, and you make it to the Bridge of Eldin before noon, Death Mountain within view. You begin to cross the bridge... but start to get a strange sense of unease as you do. Looking over the side, you see... some Keese, resting underneath. A large number of them. Hundreds. Oh. Oh good. You gulp.

“Girls. We must be as quiet as possible when crossing.” you tell them, pointing over the side. Aveli and Sheik nod, marching with you.

Lynna takes a quick peek like you did, tempted by it. And promptly regrets doing so as she seems positively petrified. “...Tha-that... that’s a... a lot of... of...”

“All the more reason to stick away from the edge and walk along quietly.” Sheik tells her.

Lynna almost bolts to you, placing a shaking hand on your shoulder as she walks.

>A. We will be fine, do not worry. Once close enough I can use Farore’s Wind to get us across safely

“I know it seems daunting, Lynna, but rest assured, we will be fine.” You look on ahead. “Eyes forward, chin up, and do not let your fears take hold. Impa drilled that into my head... at the request of my late mother. A mantra she... lived by.”

Lynna lowers her head, her hand no longer shaking. “S-sorry...”

Closing your eyes and chuckling a little, though quietly, as to not arouse the monsters below, you add, “Nothing to apologize for. I want to help Hyrule, to lead as I was taught to lead, and protect this land. It is what she would have wanted of me. And-”

“Keese!” Lynna calls out, pulling you away from the edge of the bridge as one of the bat-like monsters flies towards you, just narrowly missing. It flies around the four of you, trying to hound you all, causing you to run, but while still keeping yourself as quiet as possible. It tries for one more pass, only for Lynna to strike it with her Hookshot and you to fire off a Sword Beam to take it down.

You don’t even bother to check if it is truly dead or not, and instead keep going across the bridge swiftly, until finally you reach a point where you think you can use Farore’s Wind to get you across safely. “Everyone, grab on!” you tell your allies, teleporting the four of you past the bridge’s gate.

“Whew. Close one.” Lynna sighs out in relief.

“Heh, well, we probably could’ve taken them, but guess we can’t stop for every monster we come across.” Aveli comments, giving a shrug. “How much further, Z?”

You check the map. “It is... just beyond Death Mountain. We should be there in 30 minutes tops.”

“Then no time to waste, let’s go!”

Okay, sorry about that delay, we are back!

You’re able to make it through Death Mountain’s pass with relative ease, a few Gorons patrolling the area giving your group an escort, courtesy of their Chief. Once you reach the end though, the Gorons tell you, “Sadly we must keep up our patrols. Fair warning though, the monsters in the area have been particularly ornery recently. Something has them spooked.”

“What monsters are ahead, exactly?” Lynna asks.

“Tektites, some Wolfos, and a few stranger ones. Saw one that was like a Tektite and Skulltula were mashed together, and another that seemed like some bipedal bug monster.” one of the Gorons tells her, shouldering his club. “They smash pretty easy, but are persistant little pests.”

“Hah, smashing’s a specialty of mine.” Aveli states proudly, grinning at the Goron. “But thanks for the head’s up.”

“Best of luck to you all.” he replies, continuing on his way.

You look on ahead. The path isn’t quite as jagged and rocky as Death Mountain was, but it does have a rather ominous feel to it. And... Horon isn’t back yet. You may have to meet him and Keaton at the town proper, or you could take a quick rest, just enough to relax; you have been marching since a bit after dawn, after all.

“We should rest while we have the chance, before heading on our way. Perhaps scout ahead as well, given what the Gorons told us.”

“I shall do that.” Sheik states, heading forward.

You sit down with Lynna and Aveli, the Gerudo girl questioning, “Uh... anyone remember to bring any rations?”

“I still have that Spiced Elixir.” you tell her.

“There are probably some wild berries in the area that we can use.” Lynna states. “Should we gather some?”

“It would be wise to wait on any meals, at least until the next town. We should take a rest while we can.” You lean back a bit. “Should the cold start to get to us, though, the Elixir will help warm us.”

“That’s fair.” Aveli states, laying down and looking up at the sky, smiling. “Heh, this has been one heck of an adventure so far. Hard to imagine starting out we’d go to all these places. Even mercenary work’s nothing compared to this.”

Lynna looks over to her, asking, “What do you plan to do once this is all over, then?”

“Eh, eventually it’ll be my responsibility to protect my people as an Iron Knuckle.” She shrugs, then runs her fingers through her blonde hair. “...It’s going to be a bit of a struggle at some point. Can’t keep relying on my mother.”

The cryptical way she says that catches Lynna’s curiosity, and the way she seems to play with her hair causes the young woman to look at her own redder hair. “...S-so, um... I’m not really sure if it’s my place to ask, but... there is something I have been wondering since we met.” The way she tugs on her own hair gives Aveli the hint she needs to understand what she’s asking.

“Mmh.” the Gerudo girl mumbles. “It’s... complicated. I know how it usually looks, that most of us have some more crimson shades on our heads.” Aveli sits up. “Not... always, though. Especially with our people taking in some seeking refuge from conflict, or... other situations. You’d be surprised by how often some traveler will just leave an unwanted baby girl by our village. Lady Geldama’s policy has been to take in the ones we can and raise them as Gerudo, but... doesn’t always work out. Me though? I was born like this.” The way she talks seems less like she’s merely telling Lynna this; you get the impression she’s been wanting to tell you this for some time now.

“...Verana was her name, yes?” you ask Aveli. “She did seem to have some history with you.”

“Yeah. She was one of them, abandoned and raised by us. She actually kinda grew up alongside me. We...” Aveli rubs the back of her neck. “...have some differences. Sometimes I’m probably a bit harder on her than I really should be, but it’s not like she makes it easy to get along with. Tries a little too hard to ‘prove’ herself.” The Gerudo girl lays back down. “Think that’s enough about my childhood rival. Your turn, Lynna. What’re you gonna do when this is over, Hyrule’s safe, and everyone lives happily ever after?”

The young woman takes a longer time to respond, though from her shy expression she seems more hesitant to answer than anything else. “W-well... it’s always been a dream of mine to own a game shop.”

Aveli snorts a laugh. “Really?”

She blushes and pouts. “I-I know it’s silly! It... it’s just, I know it’s something people enjoy. Something that can make people happy. Plus, well... I am quite good at them.” Lynna sighs softly. “Of course, papa has not been the most supportive of such an endeavor. Wants me to settle with a comfortable family and all that, but he tends to... scare away any boys that show interest.” Quietly she adds, “And even a couple girls...”

“Well, some have to be pretty picky, given status and whatnot.” Aveli comments nonchalantly, glancing at you. “Nobility and all that, arranged marriages, big ol’ complicated Hylian politics. Hard for me to really wrap my head around all of it, but hey, not my business to poke my nose in it.”

“Nobility does tend to cause plenty of problems on its own. Making marriage into a game is just one more thing they can screw up.” Lynna mumbles, pouting.

While you must admit, you are curious about Aveli’s history with Verana, you figure it would be best to let her give more on her own terms. Instead, you smile kindly at Lynna. “I think a game shop would be a good fit for you.”

“R-really?” she responds in surprise. “That’s... quite an endorsement. Eheh...”

“Though one reason for that being you might put others out of business.” you comment teasingly.

“P-princess!” Lynna protests, pouting and blushing.

You bring your hand to your lips and giggle softly. “I jest, but I do speak the truth with what I said before. I believe you would do well running a game shop. You are a kind woman, one with a sharp mind and quick wits. You also like to see people happy, help them as you can. I do think that would be a good fit for you.”

The pout fades as she hears your praise, her smile returning. “Quite an endorsement indeed. Thank you.”

“Though I do ask, next time we have a talk like this, can we... please stay away from the topic of marriages, arranged or otherwise, please?” you request, sighing. “I would prefer to keep my mind focused on saving Hyrule first and foremost.”

“Ahhh, I getcha.” Aveli nods. “Not much point if there isn’t a Kingdom left to rule, yeah?”

“Indeed.” You look towards the path forward, tilting your head. “...Sheik has been gone for quite some time now.” You stand. “This is unusual.”

Aveli and Lynna stand up as well. “Think something’s up?”

“I think we have had enough of a rest. We should move forward and find her.” You start to match along the path, Lynna and Aveli behind you. You head up a ways, finally spotting Sheik in the distance... her sword drawn, as Tektites start to close in on her.. But not just Tektites. A tall, bipedal insectoid monster with large claws closes in, its mandibles letting out a sickening hiss. You notice that Sheik’s leg is injured at the thigh. Not a deep would, but one that looks like it came from the bug man. It makes a leap at her, Sheik managing to roll out of the way and slash at it, though the damage seems minor at best. You start to sprint to her aid, when...

The monster hisses at the approaching knight, the Tektites backing away. Sheik notices you approach. You can see her smile through the coverings on her face, but she stands her ground. The largest of he monsters spots your group coming, and begins to flee.

“Sheik!” you call out. “Are you all right?!”

“Ambushed by that thing.” Sheik points at the fleeing monster. “Tried to run, it wasn’t having any of that.” She looks to the tall figure in armor. “I owe you, Sir Knight, thank-”

Sheik attempts to slash at one, but due to her leg injury it dodges away as she stumbles the sword swing. You bring out a Deku Nut and toss it at the monsters, blinding them all and causing them to shriek and scurry back. As they do, you unleash a volley of Crossbow bolts, hitting all of them, and then charging forward with your sword drawn, building up power along the blade’s length. Lynna tosses out the Gale Boomerang and manages to corral them closer together.

But in their scurried panic, they are able to make leaps at both you and Lynna, knocking the young woman down and smacking you in the gut before scurrying away. “OH NO YOU DON’T!” Aveli yells out, cleaving the one that attacked Lynna in two with her Biggoron’s Sword. With your blade filled with magical power, you unleash it against the monsters in a Spin Attack, slicing the group and ending them for good.

[Hearts: 10/11]
[Magic: 2/5]

As some remnants and Rupees remain from the felled monsters, Aveli helps Lynna to her feet, Sheik putting away her sword. “That was a bit more than I was expecting out of such small bugs.”

“Small nothing, they’re big enough to eat cats. Shh! Agh...” Lynna flinches, clenching her side. “And they hurt like heck.”

“Lynna, Sheik, are both of you able to keep going?”

“Th-think so...” Sheik replies, checking her leg. She then looks at the ground. “My apologies, Princess. I should not have left your side. These monsters are certainly more dangerous than they appear...”

“That huge one got really spooked when that knight showed up.” Aveli adds in. “Whoever he was, seems he has a reputation with these things. How tough is that guy?”

“Hmm... Captain Douglas did mention he seemed to be a bounty hunter of some sort. One with rumored magical abilities. That he was able to use the Sword Beam cements that as more than rumor. And the Great Deku Tree mentioned these crab-like monsters before, and the Knight facing off against them, and even that fortress they got to move.” You cross your arms and declare, “He most definitely has some connection to the Great Sky Temple. I am certain of it. And he may be our key to getting there.”

You make sure the coast is clear coming up, then start to gather up the spoils left behind by the monsters. As you do, you tell everyone, “Not that I doubt anyone’s individual skills, but going forward, if our foes are going to be this dangerous, we should not go off on our own, even to scout ahead. I think having a Fairy come along with one of us to help with scouting, both to assist and as a last resort should an ambush like this happen again.”

Sheik sighs, looking down at her leg. “I understand, Princess.”

“I must repeat, I do not doubt anyone’s skills. But we are in this together. We should watch each other’s backs to the best of our ability, especially with things like that waiting ahead.”

Lynna rubs her gut, but smiles at you. “Sure thing, Princess.”

“Got it. Heh, kinda like Horon has Felicia watching his back, right?” Aveli asks.

“Indeed.”

“That makese sense.” The Gerudo girl looks over what you’ve collected. “So, Z, what all did the monsters leave behind?”

“Total is 32 Rupees, and with this...” Some things to restore health, and some to restore magic. Well, priorities being what they are, you get Sheik’s leg healed up, and then tend Lynna’s wound, finally getting your magic restored.

[Rupees: 193/500]
[Magic: 4/5]

“Thank you, Princess.” Lynna tells you, checking over her outfit. “Ah, your outfit is still a little torn, Sheik.”

“I will be able to manage.” she replies. “I can repair it when we get to the town.”

“Then let us be on our way.” you state, marching forward.

The path ahead does get slightly more chilly than the march through Death Mountain. Not nearly as cold as heading to Snowpeak Fortress, but the air does gain a noticeable chill. You do spot some more monsters along the way, though they seem to give you space... especially since you notice a few more dead ones along the way. Finally, you get to the outskirts of a settlement... and from the sign you see, you can confirm it is indeed Valenz Town.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8V2pKFz_F0

A small but surprisingly busy place, with large castle ruins overshadowing the town, with walls guarding it from outside threats. You reach the entrance and manage to move on through without incident, noticing some curious buildings and trees further into town. Helpfully, there seems to be a directory for travelers. “Hmm... it seems we have a tavern attached to an inn nearby, a restaurant and a smaller bar further in, a few shops by a library... hm. Armory closer to the center.”

“Taverns are probably a good place to finally fill up, and get some information.” Aveli deduces.

>A. Let’s go to the tavern then
>B. We should get a proper meal to cover the energy we’ve spent hiking all this way, restaurant

“Let us go to the tavern then. And while there, it would be good to pack some meals for the road, just to be on the safe side.”

“Yeah, let’s get some grub!” Aveli cheers out, marching forward.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cm7SgPxEKWA

The tavern, Blue Maiden, is a relatively decent, slightly homely place. Just as oddly busy as the town itself, given its size. The four of you are welcomed by a large, hefty but friendly waitress. “Welcome, welcome! Bar, booth, or table?”

Noticing a group of Gorons leaving, leaving an open space, you ask her, “Table for four, please.”

“Certainly. Right this way, loves!” The table the Gorons were at is cleaned and you’re sat down, the waitress directing you to the menu above. “Raise a holler when you’re ready.”

“Hmm... pretty far north for them.” Aveli comments as she sees the Gorons finally exit, chatting with some rough-looking sailors. “And this place is busier than I was expecting.”

As you look over the menu you overhear some talk of folks... chasing off monsters that have been hounding the town. And, more importantly, talk of the Golden Knight arriving to cash in another bounty. And the description is... curious.

“Came dragging in another one of those damned Pirates’ corpses to the gate, decapitated, and just left it there as he marched through with the head in hand. Gave the guards quite a spook!” a non-Hylian man laughs out, broadly built and in simple dress.

“Feh! Shows them right. No longer bothering poor folk trying to make a living now that their monstrosity of a fortress has crumbled.” another man, a Hylian who looks to be a sailor as well, comments. “He staying in town again, or going right back out to work? That kind of money could get him into White Slingshot if he wanted.”

“No clue. Maybe he’s finally stopped for a drink over there, maybe grabbing a bite at Blackstone, but knowing him he’d probably just be right back to work after restocking.”

Your eyes focus back on the menu. Several kinds of seafood, pork, poultry, some soups, veggies. Prices are manageable.

>A. Mighty Crab Risotto, seems to be built to reinforce your strength (40 Rupees)
>B. Iron Fried Wild Greens, sounds toughening (20 Rupees)

It would be best to get a good balance of food in, and some leftovers that will help in the long run, ordering the Iron Fried Wild Greens and the Spicy Sauteed Chicken for you and your allies. Aveli pitches in as well, getting an Energized Glazed Ham to share.

[Rupees: 132/500]
[Magic: 5/5]
[Leftover Iron Fried Wild Greens (Defense), Spicy Sauteed Chicken (Warmth), and Energized Glazed Ham (Magic restore) leftovers acquired!]

“Ahhh~! This reeeally hits the spot.” Aveli comments happily, downing mouthfuls of ham and chicken. “Do you think Horon’s gotten himself some food as well?”

Lynna has a forkful of veggies before commenting, “He could always still send for money or food or something. He was born into it, after all. Wealthy and well-off.”

“I doubt that. Horon’s desire to prove himself like the Heroes before, along with his skill in fighting off monsters, would suggest he prefers to not rely on his connections.” you tell her.

“Mm... if you say so, Termina.” Lynna comments, having some more veggies.

“What is your plan after this, then? Try to find the Knight?” Sheik questions.

>A. Absolutely. We need to see what this person is doing, and if the hunches on him are correct

“Absolutely. Though, along the way, we should do what we can to restock our supplies.” You stand, gathering up the Rupees needed to pay your bill, Aveli pitching in for her order. “If he is out hunting monsters like this, he will need to resupply as well. Those in the area would know of him, and could point us to him.”

“That makes sense.” Aveli states, stretching her arms. Enthusiastically, she calls out, “All right, lead the way!”

You head into town and start looking through shops, talking with a few townsfolk, as well as travelers who’ve been through the area frequently, about the Golden Knight. The descriptions vary from reinforcing what you already know...

“Real quiet type. Doesn’t speak much, but when he sees someone in danger, he rushes to their aid. I don’t actually think I’ve heard him speak a single word. If you do engage in conversation with him, he’ll usually gesture in some way to show he understands, or agrees, or disagrees. Real mysterious type.”

To what you didn’t quite know before...

“Soft spot for the kids. He keeps his distance around them, but tends to help them when he sees the need. Orphans especially. One time the orphanage up north caught fire, he went out of his way to barge in and save each and every last one. Even donated his latest hunt to the repairs.”

To the... well, you’d call them fantastical, but you’re not quite sure how far the truth has been stretched...

“He slew an evil dragon one-on-one! They fought for hours upon hours, until he finally managed to pin the beast to the ground by stabbing its stinger tail into the dirt, running up its back as it tried to flee, and tackled it into a boulder, snapping its neck!”

To the more... bizarre...

“Heard he was a wild man I did! Raised by cuccos and taught how to fly! Feeds purely on the fear of the monsters he hunts!”

And of course...

“Ohhhh!~ He moves like lightning, hits louder than thunder, his blade tears vile monsters asunder! A knight of gold, like times of old! Hero to bring back our Princess, I wonder~!”

Pinching the ridge of your nose, you thank the bard and continue along. Finally, you get a solid lead.

“Went into the Hunters’ Guild short while ago, out front of the mayor’s mansion. If you’re quick you might be able to catch him.” a young shopkeep in glasses tells you, stroking his elaborate mustache.

Finally! And through all this you also...

You restock on your Bombs and Bombchus, but also get a little sweing kit for the tear in Sheik’s outfit. Good think Impa taught you how to sew! She did protest a little when you did so, though...

“I-it was my fault for not paying closer attention. You shouldn’t burden yourself like-”

“It’s not a burden. It’s sewing. You don’t want to go out in rags, do you? This is a simple thing. Now PLEASE hold still.”

Lynna giggles as she helps you. “Her mind’s set. Best let her do this.”

As the four of you walk to the Hunters’ Guild, Sheik looks down at her repaired outfit. “I do hope that we did not miss the Knight because of thi-”

The door opens and out comes the large figure of the Knight. Almost a head taller than you, stopping as the four of you block his path. His helmet turns back and forth as he looks over you all, and... through one of the slits in his helmet, you notice a blue eye barely visible. A critical, stern, and cold eye that... is honestly rather intimidating. As if from just look alone, the Knight could scare away a Lynel.

“Sir Knight, you helped one of us on our path here. Allow me to-”

He waves his hand for you to move... rather rudely marching past when you don’t.

“W-wait! Hey! Excuse me! HEY!”

“Sir! Just a moment of your time, please!” you call out to the Knight. He waves his hand, directing you away. You’re starting to get frustrated with him at this point. “Please, we are in need of your aid!”

The Knight looks back at you, still marching onward. He seems to shake his head and, though you can’t see them, you get a very strong impression that he’s rolling his eyes at you. Aveli tries to get alongside him. “You know, the strong, silent, mysterious thing is a bit cliche at this point.”

He breathes out an unimpressed sigh as he looks forward, deciding to ignore her too. Okay this is REALLY getting frustrating.

You march along with the Knight as he picks up speed. “Sir, please, just a moment of your time. It is vital, the fate of Hyrule is in jeapordy.” He doesn’t even look at you, but at least isn’t brushing you away at this point. You... aren’t quite sure how well he’s listening to you, though. Well, here goes! “A dark force is coming to these lands, a man with masks has been going around trying to sew the seeds of corruption throughout Hyrule to bring back Ganon. The Great Deku Tree was targeted by one of these attempts, and once freed he told us that you may know something about the Great Sky Temple, the land that escaped the Demon King’s onslaught during the war. If you could help us-”

Aaaand he moves his head once more like he’s rolling his eyes at you. So he IS listening, and he... doesn’t seem to believe you. His brisk pace gets him to the town gate, passing through as you’re now sprinting after him. Okay, that is IT!

You cast Farore’s Wind and appear in front of the Knight, blocking his path forward. He doesn’t look like he’s going to stop. Frustrated, you blurt out loudly, “SKY TEMPLE! SAVE THE WORLD! HELP ME!”

The guards give you shocked and surprised looks as you stare down the Knight, your arms crossed and your eyes narrow. The Knight... tilts his head curiously, looking you over for a moment. He then slows his approach, coming to a stop when he gets to you, looking down at you. He pulls out a bit of parchment with some writing on it. Rudely, he then pokes you right below the collarbone, then points at the ground. For emphasis, he repeats the action as he leans closer, making sure you get the gesture... apparently he wants you to wait there.

Pouting and huffing, you relent to the Knight’s request. “Fine. Be that way. We will wait for you here. But we are getting this done as soon as possible. Is that clear?”

The Knight sighs like a parent dealing with an uppity child. He nods, then gestures for you to move. You finally step out of his way, pointing two fingers at your eyes, then at the Knight, squinting as you do. Another implied roll of the eyes from him, and he continues on his way. You pout as he walks off. Rude. You then hear... soft chuckling.

You look over to the source of it with brows low, Aveli trying her best not to laugh. “Well... that’s one way to negotiate. Heh heh.”

Even Lynna seems to have trouble keeping a straight face, but she makes no comment beyond that. Sheik... seems concerned, but seems more focused on the Knight than on you, watching as he leaves. You take the time waiting to inform the guards of what you were talking about, getting them up to speed with the situation regarding Snowpeak Fortress, letting them also know of your talk with the Zora King. They agree to pass the information along.

You then... well, wait. And wait. And... wait.

And wait.

And wait.

Aaaaaand wait.

To pass the time, you ask Sheik what she saw of the Knight before you arrived. “I must admit, there was little that I saw that you did not. But... I must further admit that I find his behavior, even his movements... odd.”

“How so?” Aveli asks.

“If I were to guess, I would say that person was trained like I was. I can tell from the way he moves, subtle movements that don’t usually appear for an ordinary adventurer, but neither a professional soldier. Raised from birth to be a warrior, though with far greater emphasis on honing his body to be a weapon. Yet... I sense some personal tragedy there. His silence especially implies he chooses not to be open with others because of it.” Sheik rubs her chin. “This is just speculation, though.”

“Sounds a bit like me, but I’m not exactly quiet.” Aveli comments.

“You were raised to be sociable. The Gerudo know the value of communication. This Knight though... I get the impression he was not.”

Some distance away you hear something large approach... no, something large being dragged. It is... the Knight. The Knight with... a Lynel’s sword hefted over his shoulder, dragging one of its horns behind him. The Knight spots you, and right before you can say a word, points in your direction, then points at the ground again. He then gives the sword over to one of the guards before heading in to town again.

“OOF.” the guard exhales as he struggles to lift it. “O-okay was NOT expecting that! WOW these things are heavy.”

“Pay up.” the other guard comments. The first sighs loudly, grabbing a Red Rupee and handing it over. The second chuckles to himself.

Finally, the Knight returns. You cross your arms and pout at him once more. “Are you ready to help us?”

He nods his head and starts to walk towards a path out of town, calling your group to follow. Finally! Goddesses...

Given that he is clearly not in the mood to chat, you decide it’s best to not bother the Knight any further. You do chat briefly with the girls on some things you feel the Knight should know about, recounting the Darknuts gathering in Snowpeak and their plan to attack Hyrule. Mention of the Darknut Prince does get the Knight to look back as he leads you all, but he makes no comment.

Though... as you travel up a hillside, Aveli does bring up something. “So... will Horon know where to find us? We have gone quite a ways away.”

“Keaton should be able to find his way back to me, though if he requires help, I will be able to call for him. I doubt Horon will be gone too long.”

Mention of Horon causes the Knight to sigh loudly. Even louder than the ones he gave you. Sounding more like a groan than anything. You also notice... his voice is odd. Sounds younger than you were expecting, especially for how tall and built he is. You’re led up to the ruins overlooking the town. But once there, the Knight has you all stop. And... for good reason.

“What... in the world are those monsters?” Aveli asks aloud as small, purple winged creatures scurry around the area. Round bodied with horns, claws, and large, singular eyes on their round heads. And... there are about a dozen of them. The Knight draws his sword and brings his hand out, telling you all to stay back.

“No, I think not!” You draw your blade as well. “We can handle ourselves!”

Though disappointed, the Knight doesn’t stop you, instead charging forward... at exceptional quickness. A Sword Beam pierces through one of the monsters, felling it instantly, and from there you manage to get a good look at the Knight’s sword. It’s... unusual, a dark blue in color, or perhaps dark teal, and doesn’t seem to give off the same sheen a normal metal blade would.

You back up your bold statement with a Sword Beam of your own from your Sword of Nayru, striking one of the monsters as it approaches you. Unlike the Knight’s attack, though, it doesn’t fell the monster right away. You draw your other blade right as the monster attacks, slashing at you with its claws. It manages to scratch your arm, but you immediately stab through it with your Royal Sword, managing to take the beast down for good.

Sheik follows up by leaping up and stabbing down at one more monster, lodging her blade in its shoulder and then kicking off... but that too doesn’t quite kill her target. You run at it and slash with both your blades, though it too sees you coming and manages to headbutt into your other arm, its horn just narrowly missing a stab and instead hitting you with the blunt side.

Aveli manages to smash through one more with the Biggoron’s Sword, though as she does two others near her approach, attempting to attack her as she tries to bring her sword up. Lynna throws out her Gale Boomerang to stun them, and you charge in and slash them both down with a well-timed series of slashes, recalling what Linkle taught you.

Strangely, though... the monsters only leave Rupees behind once defeated, vanishing into blackened mist like normal, but with the mist... seeping into the ground as if being pulled there. The Knight makes quick work of the remaining monsters. He walks over to you, grabbing you by the arm and checking the damage. As he does, one last monster, having climbed a pillar, attempts to leap down at him... only to be run through with a Sword Beam, the Knight not even looking at it as he does.

“They are minor wounds, I can assure you.” you tell the Knight, trying to yank your arm back. Well... they ARE. But they might not be quite as minor if it weren’t for the meal you had earlier.

[Hearts: 10/11]

Shouldering her sword, Aveli adds in, “Heh, yeah, T’s been through MUCH worse before.” You get the impression the Knight is glaring at you upon hearing her say that, and you finally manage to yank your arm away, giving the Gerudo girl a side-eye. She quickly adds, “A-and we’ve always come out on top! We’ve beaten the odds several times. We’re no rookies here.”

“Heeeey! Guys! Heeeeeey!” Horon’s distant voice calls out. Recognizing it, the Knight sighs once more. You’re... getting the impression that this is going take some work to really convince him. But clearly, you will need his help if you want to save Hyrule.

Good thread, I like dealing with this hard headed knight. Although it makes me think, we should talk seriously about training more. And shuffling around these swords meant for that purpose, especially where Horon is concerned.

So, Pitamus might be doubting us at this point, but hopefully we'll be able to convince him soon enough.

Horon arrives on the back of Keaton, hopping off of the animal, Keaton returning to his mask. Horon hands it over to you. “And here you go, Miss... Termina.” he stops himself as he notices the Knight look at him skeptically. Horon grins at him and waves. “So! Long time no see, buddy! How’s it been?”

You get the impression he is looking at you judgingly. He also merely waves for you all to follow instead of responding to Horon, shaking his head as he walks. Aveli gets closer to Horon as you all follow. “He give you the silent treatment before?” the Gerudo girl asks.

“Eh, kinda. He mostly just seemed busy, I think. But hey, looks like you guys managed to get him to help! Hah, you got some real negotiation skills, Miss Termina.”

You’re... not quite sure you’d agree that what you did was “negotiation” with him. The Knight glances in your direction once more and... is he chuckling? Mmh. He looks forward once more, finally stopping as you reach the main part of the ruins. He looks around for something, and motions for you to stay put and wait.

While you do feel it would be useful to help him look, you get the feeling he won’t be very willing to let you. Best to leave him be. For now. Instead you turn your attention to Horon, asking, “How has your sword been treating you so far? Do you feel that it has been guiding you still, or do you think you have learned all it has been trying to teach you?”

He brings out the Servant Sword of Din, holding it up. “Hmm... I think I’m doing good with it. It’s actually been pretty easy to use... and I think you’re right. Every time I bring it out, it feels like the sword is trying to like... show me how to better use it.”

“Do you think you would do well to switch again? Compare it with the Biggoron’s Sword, or perhaps my blade, or Sheik’s?”

“Huh... well, maybe I could give yours a try.” Horon states, handing you his blade as you trade it for your own. You grip tightly on it... and though it does feel lighter than a sword its size should, it is still clearly a two-handed weapon. Aveli could most likely handle it better than you could. Still, you’re able to pick up the sword and swing it around with... well, greater ease than you could with the Biggoron’s Sword. But it will take some getting used to. Horon, meanwhile, takes to the Servant Sword of Nayru quite well, though not as well as you did. “Hah, wow, it’s actually pretty light.” the boy comments, swinging it around.

You take a few moments to try the larger blade, trying to get a feel for it. As you do, you feel that... there is a very slight, very subtle “push” as you make each swing, trying to correct your movements and make sure you give out the right amount of power. It will, however, be a while before you can truly utilize it to the best of your ability.

All of this is interrupted as the Knight finally finds what he’s looking for, pushing aside some rubble and locating a lever. He pulls it, and a part of the fortress’ floor moves, sliding away as it reveals... a massive, ancient cannon, large enough for a person to fit in. Strangely, it also appears to have... legs like a bird’s. Slightly rusted in places, with moss growing over it.

The Knight then points at you, then points... at the cannon. “...You can NOT be serious.” Lynna exclaims. “How does that even work?! I’ve seen circus performers do this kind of stunt, it doesn’t get them very far and they need nets in order to-”

The Knight facepalms, pointing at Lynna. He motions for her to hush, then repeats his motion to you. He... wants you to get in the cannon. You do see a point where you can get in with the Hookshot...

You squint at the Knight. “No, no I am on Lynna’s side here. This is patently ridiculous. You expect us to head in this cannon and just... go where we need to go? At least give some explanation.”

The Knight facepalms again and slowly slides his hand down. He gestures to show that apparently the cannon is able to get people to a... Temple... in the Sky. Okay, sounding a BIT better, but you give him an unimpressed look. Visibly frustrated with you, it looks like it... makes something around a person as it fires? Both you and Lynna continue the skeptical looks you’re giving him. “It would be easier if you could just, you know, say it. You can clearly understand us.” the young woman comments. “If you CAN’T speak, that’s understandable, but you seem like you’re not talking just to be rude.”

Sheik, in an attempt to lessen the Knight’s frustration, asks, “Are you saying this uses Magic to protect those it fires?”

The Knight claps his hands together, walks over to Sheik, and... pats her on the head, giving her a thumb’s up. He finally, once more, points at you, and then at the cannon. Feeling... just a little insulted, you sarcastically tell him, “Oh Sir Knight I would not know what to do without you. Please, by all means, you first, do not let this annoying brat slow you down. You clearly know what is best.”

“T-Termina maybe you shouldn’t-” Horon tries to protest, but it’s too little too late.

The Knight marches over to you and picks you up. “H-HEY! HEY! YOU UNHAND ME AT ONCE!” Everyone tenses, hands moving to weapons, but the Knight nonchalantly waves his hand at them as he brings you to the cannon, carrying you over his shoulder as you continue to protest. “FINE, FINE! I WILL GET IN! BUT I CAN WALK PERFECTLY WELL ON MY OWN! NOW PUT! ME! DOWN!”

He stands you beside the cannon, glaring down at you. He’s not repeating the gesture, though he seems seconds away from presenting a far more rude one to you. You snort at him, bringing out your Hookshot and getting into the cannon. You feel the whole structure start to move, energies surrounding you in a protective barrier. You’re then launched high into the air... yelling out loudly, your heart racing. This was a bad idea THIS WAS A BAD IDEA. THIS WAS THE -WORST- IDEA!

You close your eyes as you scream. Please land on something soft PLEASE LAND ON SOMETHING SOFT! You... land, on what feels to be a pillow. Your eyes finally open. You look around. You... you’re high in the sky, surrounded by several ancient-looking temple ruins. You... you’re here.

[Great Sky Temple]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs_XqH5jHe8

You stand, realizing you’re... actually on a cloud, of some sort. You move closer to solid ground, looking around. The place is MASSIVE. Larger than Hyrule Castle for certain, perhaps larger than the whole of Castle Town. As you move in closer, you spot a bird-like creature with... a humanoid face look at you from a short distance away. Though slightly startled by its appearance, it seems no larger than a Cucco, and merely observes you for a moment, before continuing along its way.

Sheik ends up following after you... clinging to the Knight, almost childishly. He pats her on the head again and then motions for her to get off. Sheik’s legs wobble slightly as she gets her bearings. “Th-that... that was... terrifying.” she admits, walking towards you.

Horon follows next, landing behind the Knight. Unlike Sheik, he seems to take to it slightly better... though he’s stiff as a board as he lands, his face blank, almost bemused. “There’s a bathroom up here. Right?” Horon asks the Knight, who just grumbles at him. “I REALLY need to use it now. And I don’t want to just go over the side and let it fall on some poor unsuspecting person.

Aveli follows him, laughing excitedly. “THAT WAS AWESOME!” she exclaims as she stands up. “Do you do that every time you have to come up here?” The Knight nods. “T! WE GOTTA GET THESE ALL OVER HYRULE!”

“No we do NOT.” Sheik calls out to her emphatically, still shaking.

Last is Lynna, who is able to land with a good deal more grace than the rest of you. “Well. This is the first time I’ve done a reverse swan dive.”

The Knight motions for you to head forward.

You follow along after the Knight, partially because you know he won’t give you any answers if you ask, partially because you want to make sure your legs are still working properly, taking your time to look over the area you head through. You catch glimpses of murals showing red-haired individuals walking on clouds, carrying curious items in their hands. Circular stones carved into two matching halves, like puzzle pieces.

More notably, you see... a warrior in green, doing battle with a winged, angelic warrior in white with curved twin blades. Moreover, the sight of the Master Sword in that green warrior’s hand cements him as one of the Heroes. Four scenes are depicted, one of the Hero and the Angel battling, one with the Angel brought to one knee, and one with the Hero and Angel shaking hands, finally with the Hero and the Angel linking together the circular stones you saw before. Horon too notices this scene. “He... he was here before?”

“One of them was, that much is certain.” Sheik comments.

You reach a stone door without any sign of how to open it, a barrier sealing it off. The Knight stops you all and... fires a Sword Beam at it, the barrier fading and the door opening on its own. That is a... curious security system. You put on the Mask of Truth for a moment to look it over, noticing that there are energies flowing around the door that created the barrier. You look back at the mural of the Hero, noticing that a triangular light source is on his left hand. Further, the detail on the connected stones is revealed, showing them in the same golden light that was on the Hero’s left hand, a four-pronged star on it.

The room ahead is larger, more ornate, and slightly more welcoming, though with a curious pillar in the center. You see the Knight reach the pillar, pulling out a circular stone half like the ones in the mural... no, not LIKE it. The very same one, the four-pronged star.

...You also briefly glimpse the back of the Knight’s head through the helmet, seeing he has long hair done up in a ponytail. He... somehow notices it, and, not even turning his head, directs you to remove the Mask. Though... he doesn’t quite seem upset over it. More... cautious.

>A. You’re clearly trying to hide something, Sir Knight. If it makes things easier for the both of us, you are not the only one with secrets

You remove the Mask of Truth. “Sir Knight, we may have started off on the wrong foot. I do not mean to be suspicious of you or anything of the sort. But I also am curious about all that has happened. At the very least, the murals with the Hero on them. What can you tell us about him?”

The Knight thinks for a moment... then signals for you to wait. He places the stone on a part of the pillar.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrUIKwm31kw

It springs to life, blue lines activating all around it, setting off a beam of light into the sky for a moment. The Knight pulls out the circular stone, then turns around. He motions for you to speak.

“Yes or no questions, then?” you ask him. The Knight nods. “Okay. We can work with that. The Hero on the murals at the entrance, was he the Hero of our time? The Hero who died at the start of the war?”

The Knight nods yes. Horon’s spirits brighten. “He was up here?! Ooh, ooh, was he getting secret training from some kind of messenger of the Goddesses?”

The Knight... waves his hand, in a “sort of” motion. Sheik then suspects, “He was here to aid the Angel in the murals in some task. Though he did gain training and a bond with the Angel, that was but part of why he was up here. He had some greater task to complete.”

The Knight gives her a thumb’s up again. You’re starting to get the impression he’s taken a shine to Sheik. Lynna looks at him curiously, then asks, “Did... you know the Hero?”

The Knight looks down remorsefully, but nods. Aveli places her hands behind her neck. “Did you work alongside him while he was here?”

And one more nod. This... wait. “Are you the other figure in the mural?”

...The Knight laughs. And again, with a slightly boyish voice. Or... is it? And... a shake of the head no. He then looks up into the sky, then points his thumb at something behind him. A figure comes into view...

“Sorry to keep you waiting!” a boyish voice, slightly similar to the Knight’s, calls out. Down flies a figure in white robes, a young man in appearance, with a boyish face and two large white wings coming out from his back. An... an Angel. He looks over to the Knight in Gold. “Hey buddy, how’s the surface treating you?” The Knight shrugs, waving his hand nonchalantly. “Cool, cool. Ah, and you made friends! I knew you had it in you!” the angel exclaims as he looks over all of you. Like a gracious host, he bows to you all. “Welcome, travelers from the surface, to the Trial Grounds of those chosen by the Goddesses: Great Sky Temple.”
