> “Spirit, Sisterhood, Senshadou”

> June, 2016

Denise buttons up your uniform and helps to make everything nice and pearly white for the graduation ceremony today. The seniors were graduating today. And you, along with basically all the students of LGA, were going to be there. “You excited?” asks Denise.

“Of course,” you say. You can feel your legs shaking from anticipation. You’ve been asked to give a short speech. As has Captain Spruance and then the class president Gertrude Pool. “It’s going to be a cakewalk I think. I’ve already written everything out.” You take out your index cards, smiling at Denise.

“Good, good,” says Denise. She smiles, stepping back from you. She shows you a large mirror to look at yourself in.

Elodie Rosetta Zumwalt in her white dress uniform, and given Captain Spruance’s remarks these past few months, maybe future captain of LGA. That’ll be one hell of a responsibility if it ever comes to it. But, if it comes to it, then by God you’ll do it. The door to your bedroom gets knocked on by your Mom. “Elodie, you ready?”

“Yeah.”

Mom opens the door, then she gasps in delight. “Aw, you look stunning!” She quickly walks up to you, taking your hands and looking at you. “Honey, come look at little Ellie! She looks absolutely adorable!” You glance away, feeling blood rush to your cheeks. Aw please. Mom.

Dad comes up into the room. “Elodie!” He grins, quickly snapping a picture of you. That better not end up on the internet. “Looking great! Denise, babe, you two get in there!” They quickly surround you, grinning. He snaps another picture as well. “Perfect.” Just then you receive a call on your phone.

Griselda.

“Elodie.”

“Griselda. How’s Gertrude?”

“She’s fine. Listen, we got some time before the ceremony. You mind coming around to the Tank Hangar? I’d like to see you there.”

“Sure, I got some time.”

“Great! See you then.” She hangs up.

Mom says, “Well, we’ll meet you at the ceremony grounds. Your Dad and I are going to have ourselves some quality time together.” You roll your eyes. Still somehow in their honeymoon phase. You wonder if Jeep Jockey would feel that way too if he married you. Oh whatever. Dad quickly wraps her hands around Mom’s hips, snickering before the two lock lips. OKAY TIME TO GO

You quickly usher Denise out of the door, then see Mom draw the blinds on the room. Wait. Wait. Are they going to do it in your ROOM!? “Mom!” you shout. Too late, they’re gone. FUCK.

Denise giggles, running her finger through her hair. “Well, you only sleep there once a week anyway, Elodie, heh.”

> “Let’s just get my crew together for some breakfast, Denise.”
> “How about we head to the Hangar?”

I had a suspicion that Elodie might become captain someday, all the way back in the beginning when we learned the captain's name was Spruance. (The real-world US Navy had recently replaced the Spruance-class destroyer with the Zumwalt-class.)

“Mmm! I love sausages!”

Winona cuts into her thick breakfast sausages sided against a stack of pancakes drenched with syrup. Ingrid and Stack sat across from you while Josephina and Winona sat on either side. And Denise was kind enough to get her own chair to sit at the end of the booth with you all. All of you decided on a hearty breakfast, treated thanks to Ingrid who secured a big paycheck from her brand new job: scorekeeping for LGA’s Girls Baseball team. Ingrid happily dives into her scrambled eggs too, munching them up while Stack practically inhales her breakfast steak covered in gravy. You don’t understand how such a small girl can eat so much.

Of course, since they were attending the ceremony too, they were wearing the dress whites. And it was causing you a lot of undue stress that they were eating with pure white clothes on. “Uh, guys. Maybe slow it down so you don’t get food everywhere.” Stack tries to speak to you but her mouth is full of meat. “Swallow.”

Stack swallows her meal then says, “We’re fine, Ellie! I know how to eat food quick. Trust me. I’ve had my sisters to deal with.”

Winona says, “I’m just hungry.”

Ingrid nudges you. “Be grateful, I’m treating you to this breakfast. After all, I’m making money now!”

“You make 10 dollars a game,” Stack says simply.

“It’s –money-,” Ingrid says.

“Elodie makes more money than you do,” Winona says.

“It’s –MONEY-“ Ingrid more firmly replies.

Josephina looks to you. “So you said Griselda called you to invite you to the hangar?”

“Yeah,” you say. “She didn’t tell me why though.”

“Rumor is that they’ve been working on something in the reception building,” Winona says. “You remember they wouldn’t let us in during the Spring Friendlies.” Ah yes, the NATO Spring Tournament, otherwise known as the Spring Friendlies. More a bunch of organized friendly matches and a bit of training than an actual tournament. “I bet they built a statue of Gertrude.”

“Why would they build a statue of Gertrude? This entire ship is her legacy,” Stack says.

“Eh… true.” Winona looks down, admitting defeat at that remark. She looks at you. “By the way, Elodie. I heard some rumors that the next freshmen class arriving is going to be larger than the last one.” You freeze, nearly eating your toast. She what. “Like, twice as big. What do you think?”

A freshmen class twice as large as the last one.

Oh shit.

Everyone loves healthy girls
>>
> “It’ll be great! Means LGA is healthy at least.”

“It’ll be great,” you say. “Means LGA is healthy at least.” Though you’re dreading the amount of paperwork that’s going to create. Ever since Claudia did her protests a few months back and the Captain relented, now the students can actually bring not just non-service animal pets, but they can also bring –exotic animal- pets. Something recently came across your desk about a potential student wanting to bring her pet alligator. That’s going to go well. Though, the girl who runs the pet shelter at least assured she somehow has facilities available for it.

Winona says, “Gotta say though, we’re moving on up.”

“Yeah,” says Stack. “LGA’s going to be a filthy rich elite school some day I think.”

“Don’t say that,” says Ingrid.

“I mean it!” Stack says. “Think about it! Lots of students entering in, they bring in their tuition. Lots of them graduate and say it’s a good school. Then LGA jacks up the tuition price but everyone still says it’s a good school. Maybe in a few decades we’ll be like Harvard.”

“Pfft, as if people want to go to Harvard,” Winona mutters.

You check your watch. “Right, finish up breakfast, girls. We gotta get to the hangar in about an hour.” Everyone nods, quickly finishing their breakfasts. Ingrid leaves a generous tip at the table. And once you’re done, the plates are cleaned off and the six of you get moving.

Winona stops you however on the way out. “Hey, Ellie. Can I ask you a question?”

“Sure,” you say. You nod for everyone to go to the Kettenkrad without you.

Winona folds her arms, sighing. “You know, next year, they’re going to be taking applications for clubs. And the StuCo told me they’re willing to hear me out on potentially creating an Unlimited team for LGA. We still have that example tank we built way back when.” Ah. Right. That monster. Takes you back though. “But listen, I’m still going to be your gunner. I’m not going out for Unlimited.” Oh? “I’ve thought long and hard about it. And I thought to myself, maybe I should choose one or the other.”

“And you chose me?” you ask. Winona nods, firm. “But… your hero’s Perrine. She plays more in the Unlimited field. Heck, she’d love to see you on the field. Not to mention everything else. Unlimited is your dream, Winona. You could have it if you really wanted to. I’d support you.”

“I know you would,” Winona says, smiling at you. She takes your arms. “But I want to be your gunner more than I want my dream. The tournament convinced me of that. The way we won, how much we fought for it. You’re my best friend, Elodie. I love you.” You look away a little, blushing. Oh God, why does she have to do something like this? She gently kisses your cheek. “I’ll man your gun as long as you’ll have me.”

“This means a lot to me, Winona. It really does.” You grab her arms too, smiling back at her. “Are you sure?”

“I’m sure,” she says. “You know what the good poem says, O Captain my Captain. I know he dies in that poem, don’t remind me.” You giggle a little bit, looking down, both from Winona ruining the moment but also because you’re actually tearing up a little. Winona’s choosing to stay instead of go. You won’t have a splintered crew in the end. You hug her tight, squeezing her. “Aw, Ellie!”

“You’re a good girl, Winona,” you say. “I love you so much. I promise I’ll win another championship for all of us.”

“I don’t need a championship, Elodie, Just you.” She gently pats your cheek, smiling warmly at you. “Maybe we can share Jock too once Beach Week comes around.”

“Haha. Whatever.” You roll your eyes.

“Hey, you girls coming?” asks Ingrid. Oh right. You let go of Winona then hurry off to the Kettenkrad. Winona sits in the trailer in back with the girls while you sit on the rear of the Kettenkrad with Denise. She starts driving you all to the hangar.

Outside the hangar you see Gertrude Pool, done up in a navy blue graduation robe with gold and white trim. She carries her academic cap under her arm as well. Lisa Cowell, Nancy Whitmore, Ramirez, and Kitten Smith are all alongside her as well. “Well, well, if it isn’t the NATO team’s little blue collar hero.”

“Gertrude Pool.” The two of you shake hands. “It’s been a while. I know you took some time off recently.”

“Mostly to proctor tests,” Gertrude says. “But Lisa told me to stop because girls couldn’t focus with me in the room.” She leans over, whispering to you. “I’m too much of a chick magnet apparently.” Kitten slaps her upside the head. “Ow!”

Griselda opens the door, and inside you can see Iris as well too. “Hey, Gertrude.” She looks at you. “Elodie. Good to see you. You all ready to see what’s inside?” You both nod. You all walk in with your crews.

Kitten looks at you, then says, “Ain’t you making a speech today at the ceremony?”

“I am, yeah,” you say.

Gertrude smiles, looking at you. “So am I. Know what you’re going to say?”

“Haha. Yes.” You snap your fingers. “Denise, show her the book.”

“Abridged or unedited?”

Gertrude says, “Neither, that won’t be necessary.”

“I also have index cards,” you say.

“Those are a bit more manageable,” she says back. She takes your index cards that you present and starts reading them off. “Mhmhm. Good speech. I like it.” You smile, the thought of being praised by her fills you with some pride. Pride and joy.

Iris says, “Gertrude, are you ready to see what Griselda has made?”

“I haven’t been in the reception area for half a year, I think I am,” Gertrude says. All of you start walking to the newly fashioned double doors where the renovations have been taking place for most of the year. Griselda’s been warding people off and away from it, making sure that not even the Hall Monitors inside know precisely what’s inside the new room. But finally, Griselda opens it up. All of you are stunned.

It’s not a very big room, but it’s definitely big enough to fit a tank. What you have though is a large museum of sorts. In the back was a painting of Gertrude, Lisa, Kitten, Nancy, and Ramirez sitting atop Cupid their M4A1E8 Sherman tank. And all around was memorabilia of the year that they saved LGA. Griselda smiles. Gertrude looks gobsmacked, looking at it all. Everyone else too is stunned.

Nancy points to a piece of smushed metal. “Is that…”

“The shell that you caught against Miho in that final match, yeah,” says Griselda.

“Is that-“ Kitten points something else out too.

“The flag from your first match,” Griselda says too.

Ramirez points to something. “Yeah, Ramirez. That’s the blueprints to the original M4A1 Sherman you guys used.”

Lisa folds her arms, looking at you. “How much did this cost?”

“Not a lot. ITL was willing to fork a lot of it over,” says Griselda.

Gertrude looks at Griselda, still stunned. “I’m speechless. I didn’t think you-“

“It’s only for tourists,” says Griselda. She smiles at Gertrude. “The real memories are with us.” Gertrude blinks, still speechless. What’s more, in the center of the room was a recreation of Cupid himself, the M4A1E8 Sherman that carried Gertrude to victory. You all stand in awe of it. Of course it’s not the real tank. But still, to think that Griselda would go this far… She nudges you. “Don’t worry, Elodie. We’ll get a room for ourselves one day.”

Perhaps a museum of Senshado somewhere in the ship. All the great tankers and events from LGA, with lots of room for new additions.

> “I don’t think we need it. This is jaw dropping.

“I don’t think we’ll need, Griselda. This is jaw dropping.” Griselda smiles. Kitten Smith looks at the murals set along the walls as well. On the left wall was the tournament bracket for all of the teams in that tournament. On the right were heroic portraits of all the Commanders LGA had to face in that time. Ace Levy, Victoria Augustine, Perrine Hobart, Kinuyo Nishi, Katyusha, Kay, Chiyomi Anzai, Piper Blancbois, Oryola Kuznetsov, and finally Miho Nishizumi. Their portraits were backgrounded by the sigils of their school.

You linger a little on Oryola’s portrait. To think you really got a chance to match alongside her in the final match in the NATO tournament. She still comes around occasionally. But once she graduates, she’ll be done with Tankery you hear. Then you spot Miho’s portrait. She’s long graduated already. As has Victoria and Ace, Kay, Katyusha, Anchovy… These girls have all moved on.

It hurts a little seeing them. But knowing their feats are still remembered here and probably among others gives you some cold comfort. One day though, that’ll be you.

“It’s a haunted game,” says Ingrid as she walks up to you. “Lot of people measured by the ghosts that came before.” On the side of the tank as well you see a picture dedicated to the late Mr. Jurgen Mishka, which Lisa quietly bows to in respect.

“Yeah…” You blink, folding your arms.

Gertrude hugs Griselda from behind as they look at the tank. “You remember what I told you when you won the tournament?” asks Gertrude.

“Yeah,” says Griselda. She nods. “I know.”

You walk up to them. “What did you say to each other that day?”

Griselda smirks, putting her finger to her lips. “Secret.” Ugh. They’re never going to tell you, huh.

Iris checks her watch. “It’s almost 12.”

“Shit.” Gertrude checks hers as well. “This is great, Griselda. But we gotta-“

“Yeah, I’ll drive our truck and get everyone there,” says Griselda. “Come on, people!” Everyone starts filing out. Gertrude practically carries Kitten out of the room. You linger however, looking at everything.

Griselda nudges you. “You okay?”

“I’m fine,” you say. “I just… I look at all this and I think one day, we really could just end up in a museum like this.”

“I plan on making one for Senshadou as a whole here on LGA,” says Griselda. “This’ll just be for the team to inspire themselves.” She looks at you, and sees the somewhat pained expression on your face. “Hey, listen. You still got another few years here on LGA.” She slaps your arm, smiling at you. “Make them count, alright?”

“Yeah,” you say. You give the room one last look. One day, it’ll be your face on a wall. Your achievements, your team, everything. But you won’t be in the game anymore. It’ll be like a snapshot of your life forever immortalized. You’re probably reading a little too much into this, this is high school sports. You can’t imagine how the professionals work. But this is definitely on a whole other league.

One day though. But it won’t come tomorrow.

“Get the light when you go?” asks Griselda.

“Yeah.” You fold your arms, giving one last look to Cupid. It’s not the real one, obviously. But he’s still a tank with a story to tell like all the rest. You gently pat his hull, then say, “See ya round.” With that, you turn around and hit the lights.

Time for the graduation ceremony.

“Elodie!” Dalia is the first to greet you once you step off the truck. The Ceremony Grounds were set up at one end of the Academyship, huge enough to fit thousands of people. And yet it already looked so crowded. You weren’t graduating just GS students after all, Naval Studies as well was here too. And everyone has family here too. Not to mention guests. And the Senshadou teams were part of that crowd. Dalia grabs your hand and squeezes it. You bring it in close and thump your hands together between your chests. “That last match we had in the friendlies was good, wasn’t it?”

“Yeah,” you say. “Looking forward to when the Fall Tourny starts up again?”

“Sure am,” she says. “Benny and I have got some ideas cooking about how we can get the engines running even harder but we’ll discuss that some other time. We can maybe even get you something for Oliver if you fancy.”

“I may,” you say.

“I won’t keep you though. Iris!” Dalia grins, looking at Iris as she comes up. “Interested in making your Churchill go faster than a short man walking?”

“Not particularly but I won’t silence you if you attempt to convince me,” says Iris. Dalia grins, patting her arm.

Gertrude puts her Academic cap on, adjusting it slightly. “You seen Dad?” asks Gertrude.

Griselda says, “Guess.” The two sisters look over and see Mister Pool sitting in a chair, chatting up with several women and even a few graduating seniors.

“And Mount Fuji is a very wonderful place to visit,” says Mister Pool. “Very beautiful. Very few things in this world can match that kind of thing save for the National Parks and maybe a nice woman at my side. You all know what I’m talking about.” They visibly swoon at him speaking, which makes the Pool sisters roll their eyes.

Griselda nudges you. “Don’t worry, he’d never remarry. Mom was way too important to him for that. He just likes to chat.”

“A little too much,” Gertrude mutters. “Daddy!” Gertrude calls to him as she approaches. The two sisters go to greet him.

It won’t be another hour or two before the ceremony starts, what should you do?

> Walk around, maybe meet with some of the seniors.

You decide to walk around, maybe meet some of the seniors who are graduating. You shake hands with several folks here and there. A lot of seniors seem to know you. “Hey, you’re Elodie Zumwalt!” A senior student shakes your hand, smiling at you. “I finally get to meet you!”

“Nice to meet you,” you say. “You are…?”

“Abby,” she says. She smiles at you, happy as can be. “Sorry, I know we haven’t met before. A lot of us have been so busy with our studies and everything. Plus, so many of us are saying goodbye to our underclassmen.” She points to the side. “

You see Serafina and her girls all hugging one of the seniors. “Będę za tobą tęsknić! The Polish Student Society will survive but we still miss you, Miss Janek! You’ve done so much for all of us!”

Janek smiles, patting her on the head. “Relax, relax, girl. Drobiazg. You will do fine as the now President of the Polish Student Association. Wear your badge with pride!” The Freshmen girls all cry, weeping at the thought of losing their senior.

“Well.” You smile at them, then look at Abby. “A lot of sophomores from that time really are graduating, huh?” They are. You fold your arms, nervous. “I hear the Skycraft team founders are graduating too.” Oh, so they are. “The Kill Devil Hills Team is doing a flyover to honor them I hear.”

“Yeah, they are,” you say. And hopefully they won’t fly too low to blow up some skirts, the fly boys.

Another girl walks up to you. “You know, my little sister says she’s going to try out for LGA next year. She wants to join the Tankery team too. You think she could make it?”

“Is she good at Tankery?”

“Eh…” The girl looks away, the sign of someone who doesn’t want to say something bad but doesn’t know how to articulate it in a good way.

“We’ll teach her,” you say. “LGA’s founded on starting from scratch anyway. Plus, no bad habits to break people out of.” Abby smiles at that, as does the other girl.

Abby looks behind you, then points and says, “Oh, that’s your friend there, isn’t it?” Winona is running up to you. Eh?

“Ellie, Ellie!” She grabs your hand. “You need to come see this!”

“What? What!?” You look at her, confused. She starts dragging you away from the seniors. “Winona!” You try to match her pace as she jogs with you. “Winona, what is so important that you need to drag me away from them!?”

“It’s Jock!” she says. Oh. It’s Jock. You invited Jock to come out to the graduation yes. KDH is here to do their flyover for LGA, yes. But it’s just Jock. “He’s wearing a suit and tie!” You shove Winona out of the way and hurry. He what. Not in almost a year has Jock worn a full suit. A dress shirt and some khakis, sure. But he doesn’t style his hair. He doesn’t even cut it himself, you have to! Lazy bastard! Not to mention he has no sense of fashion either or aesthetic, he just throws on whatever looks good. But a whole suit!?

You and Winona come up to a stunned Stack, Ingrid, and Josephina. And there he is.

He talks with Gertrude and Griselda. “Yeah, Jack sent me down here to officially on behalf of our school to say congratulations on graduation, Gertrude. You’ve done us a lot of good and we are happy to pay it forward for you.” He looks at Griselda. “Jack will be landing after the fly-by, he’ll be around for the after party too.”

“Great, I can finally pay him back for all that paint,” Griselda mutters. She smirks, snickering.

You however are stunned. Jock is in a navy blue suit with a black tie. He has matching brown loafers to go with it too. The cut on his clothes manages to get his figure so right. He’s washed his face thoroughly too, he looks impeccable. His smile is absolutely stunning too as he shakes Gertrude’s hand. And his hair! He’s actually styled his hair properly! It’s only a medium regular haircut but it looks… it looks stunning!

Gertrude winks at you, then points you out. “Hey, Jock. It’s your gal.” Shit. SHIT. Jock turns around and grins. NO! YOUR SMILE IS TOO BRIGHT GODDAMN IT FUCK FUCK

“Ellie!” He jogs up to you all. Your crew look properly stunned. They’ve –never- seen Jock like this. And neither have you. “You look great!”

“Y-… yeah, so do you,” you say. “Where did all this come from?” You motion your finger up and down, sizing him up. You mentally resist the urge to touch him.

“Ah, I wanted to look as presentable as I could,” he says. “Seeing as how it’s not just Gertrude’s special day but yours too given you’re making a speech as well.” He looks nervous now, looking at you. “I-… is it too much? Am I overdressed?”

“You’re perfect.” You grab onto his suit jacket, making sure not to ruffle or wrinkle it. “I didn’t think you could actually pull off a look like this, Jock. This is uh…” You bite your lip hard, feeling some blood rushing to your cheeks and other unmentionable areas. You’ve seen him naked goddamn it, how is him wearing –more- clothes turning you on? Goddamn. “Uh.” You quickly take his collar and pull him for a quick kiss on the lips, then another. And another. Okay, one last one. “Uh.” You blink, smiling at him. “Goodness. Uh… I wish you could dress like this more often.”

“I-…” Jock looks around at your crewmembers, who all look at Jock very admirably. Hands off, he’s yours. “I mean, I can try.”

Winona wraps her arm around you, smiling up at him. “Speaking of which, Jock. Beach week for us is coming up.” Wait. You look at her. “You think you have time?”

“To go away with you girls for a week?” he asks. “Um. Any other guys going?”

“Just you,” Winona whispers. “Think about it. I got a house down south, lovely weather, warm beach…” She squeezes you tight. “And plenty of time together.” Winona please.

“I-…” Jock rubs at his neck, nervous. “I mean, that does sound nice.” He looks at you. You shrug. He can come if he wants to. Nobody seems to disagree either. “I can make time, sure.”

“Great!” Winona throws her arms up. Stack, Ingrid, and Josephina mockingly clap in response.

One of the stagemasters quickly comes up to you all. “Girls, it’s time to get on stage, quick!”

Gertrude gasps. She quickly grabs Griselda’s hands and says, “I’ll meet you down here when we’re done. I got one last thing to do with you before I gotta leave LGA.” Griselda looks confused, but she nods.

With that, Gertrude grabs your hand and hurries you up to the stage.

Everyone begins settling in. On stage, you can see everyone. There must be well over ten thousand students here, maybe even more! And it’s making you shiver to your core. Captain Spruance sits down next to you, squeezing your shoulder reassuringly. Then you look to the side and see him.
>>
>>3358798
Principal Tennyson is slowly helped up on stage by Gertrude and the rest of the Student Council. They walk the old man up to the podium then quickly put the mic close enough to his mouth so he can speak. And speak he does in a low gravelly voice. Gertrude sits next to you. She looks at you sadly, then says, “Takes him a bit, don’t worry.” Right. You nod, understanding.

Principal Tennyson takes a deep breath, quickly poking the mic as he adjusts his glasses. “Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the graduation ceremony of the Class of 2016. I am an old man. And I need my darn nap.” Everyone starts chuckling a little at that. “So I will keep this short. A few years ago, I thought… 2017 would be the last graduation I attend. But instead, I look at you all. And I see even more students behind. And I can go quietly knowing that the last graduation certainly won’t be anytime soon.” Everyone starts applauding and clapping. After a few minutes applause, they quieten down for him once more. “Lafayette Girls Academy is special to me. It’s the school my mother went to. Many of you will have family who have come or will come to us one day. And part of the Lafayette Girls Academy spirit is in the way we treat each other: as family. You’ve all grown close to one other, you’ve worked beside each other, studied hard, and so on. And so I say, congratulations to all of you girls. You’ve done really well. And I am proud of each and all of you.

“So please, come on stage. And receive not just your diplomas...” He adjusts his glasses again. “With each diploma, you also receive a flowering from one of LGA’s flowering dogwood trees, the state tree of Virginia our home state, preserved in glass. Please rise and walk up to the stage.”

And with that, the school orchestra begins to play. All the students rise in disciplined fashion. The General Studies students wearing the navy blue robes, and the Naval Studies students wearing their dress whites. They walk to the stage in organized formation, receiving their diplomas in fives and receiving handshakes not just from you, but also from Gertrude, Principal Tennyson, and Captain Spruance. There’s thousands of them, and this takes time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw-_Ew5bVxs

But in the end, it’s worth it. Principal Tennyson, old man that he is, stands for all of it.
>>
>>3358802
With that, Gertrude stands up and helps him to his seat. Captain Spruance takes the podium and adjusts the microphone and says, “Good afternoon, LGA. As the chief representative of all the Naval Studies students, I wish to congratulation all of you on a job well done. For four years, you have worked long and hard, even harder than those general studies girls I would say. Bunch of lazy beggars.” Everyone laughs at the remark. All in good nature. Captain Spruance grins. “I am happy to tell you all though that four years of hard work has finally paid off! All of you are graduation! You leave behind a legacy of service and determination that is rarely matched by anyone else. The class of 2016, all of you, should be proud to call yourselves women. We are sad to lose you just as we are happy to see you grow up. Because I know that…” She sniffles a bit. “I know that all of you love this place as much as I do. So don’t fret. We’re all so proud. Thank you. I give the floor to our special guest, Lieutenant Commander Elodie Rosetta Zumwalt.” Everyone cheers and applauds you as you stand up and take the podium.

Oh shit.

You wipe some sweat off your brow.

Right. Make this count.

“I want to speak from the heart. When I first came aboard LGA, I felt trepidation, nervousness, all manners of thoughts raced through my head regarding what kind of person will I become aboard LGA? In the end I got my answer. I’m the XO for the NATO Tankery team. I’m one of the top staff officers in the Naval Studies program. And how I got there, well… it wasn’t just me. I had a lot of help from my friends and family. My Mom and Dad I have to thank most graciously for raising me as they did. I have Winona, Ingrid, Josephina, and Stack to thank as well for being the best crew there ever was. I have to thank Captain Spruance for taking me under her wing. Denise, Hilda, and Fina for being an incredible retinue. And Griselda and Gertrude for being incredibly good friends to me. And Jock too for being my best guy. And so many more.

“I want to say firmly and quite bluntly, that the way things go here on LGA is that we all work hard to do our best. Sometimes it’s not enough. But that doesn’t mean we should give up. Life is full of mistakes, stumbling, and falling, and all kinds of trials and tribulation. We all fall down. We all make mistakes. How we deal with that is what defines us as people though. We all lose sometimes but we won’t win if we don’t learn from that. And the most important thing I can say to all of you in this crowd today, you will fall down. You stumble. And sometimes you will think that you can’t get back up. But you will. Because you’re students of LGA. You’re women. You are human.

“I look at you all now, and I see some of the best and brightest LGA has to offer. You weren’t just here to party for four years, you were here to make yourselves better people. And you’ve done that. More than that, you’ve excelled. You’ve not just been guided on this path, you’ve guided others. You’ve guided –me- on my path. And for that I say, ‘thank you’. I love you all. And I am proud of all of you. And so I say, congratulations on your graduation. I hope to see more daughters of LGA graduate next year and the year after. Thank you.”

The crowd stands and applauds you. You take a breath, sighing deeply. That went well. “I hand the floor now over to Gertrude Pool, Senior Class President, Commander of Lafayette Girls Academy ITL Tankery Team, and class valedictorian.”

Now it was time for the closing speech, from Gertrude Pool. You motion for her to come up. Gertrude stands up and walks to you. She takes your hands and whispers in your ears. “Good luck.” You nod, then take your seat.
>>
>>3359018
Gertrude stands at the podium. And finally, she speaks. From deep down in the heart, you can see it coming.

“It’s been a long few years for many of us. I remember when I first came aboard Lafayette Girls Academy and I saw a school that was fairly poor, middling, not too elite, but proud to call itself one of the last all-girls Academyships in the world and proud to call itself an Academyship in the first place. We only had a few thousand students, twice that in terms of Naval Studies. I am happy and proud that four years later after I first boarded, we have come back from the brink. We have pulled ourselves out of the water and now our Academy bolsters some of the most elite academic talent this side of the Atlantic. Our student population rivals that of several of the largest Academyships in the Japanese sector. And of course our Senshadou programs have brought together some of the best people this side of the planet into one team.

“Now, all of you know me primarily because of my Senshadou talent. We all know the story. I come in, the school is being shut down. But if we win the tournament, we get the money and the prestige, we save the school. And look how that turned out! I’m proud to see that my team’s efforts, and I say this mostly importantly that this was a team effort, we have made Lafayette Girls Academy a great place where a girl can get an education. I look in the crowd I see my crews looking up at me. Many of them are graduating with me. More are going to be taking after the seniors. And by God, I know that our Senshadou won’t die just because I graduate. Because our Senshadou isn’t just tanks.

“It’s a way of life, a way of being. We’ve steeled ourselves into disciplined girls, ready to face the world. We’ve run through tank shells and gunfire and come out of it better women for it. We’ve forged bonds, cried into each other’s shoulders, shared tanks together. I guarantee you I could not ask for a better gunner than Nancy Whitmore, a more chatty Radio Op than Lisa Cowell, a more reliable loader than Chrys Ramirez, or a best girl like Kitten Smith. I was just there to yell at them to do things. Sometimes it felt like I was being guided more than I was guiding people. But in the end we made it, we were the best, we prevailed.

“But now we’re leaving. We’re gone. After today, we’re no longer students of Lafayette Girls Academy. We’ll be going to college. Some will be joining the military. Others going into the workforce. I know a few who will stay aboard and make their lives here. We’ll be joining society. And for that, I have a bittersweet feeling in my heart. This school has been my life for four years. I’ve shed sweat, tears, and blood for it. It’s been my home. And now I’ve got to say goodbye to it, as you all do. And as we all –must- do eventually.
>>
>>3359025
“We’ve crossed the oceans and gone from one end to the other. From Asia, to Africa, Europe, North and South America, Australia, even that one weird adventure we had in Antarctica for a little bit. We’ve made friends in many different countries. We’ve seen the world not just from behind a computer. We’ve seen its beauty, its splendor, how fragile it can be but how strong it is as well. How diverse its wildlife and fauna is, and yet small we are in this universe too. And now it’s time that we graduating students of LGA become part of that world.

“I don’t mean to make any of you cry. I know this is a sad moment for everyone. But I won’t say don’t cry, because not all tears are evil. You’ve all earned the right to cry. You wanna know why? Because all of this, Lafayette Girls Academy, is possible because of you. Your future? That’s possible because of you. And all of the work you, your family, and everyone close to you have put in. Lafayette Girls Academy will always sail the seas, not just as a ship but as the Academy in our hearts. Soon people won’t say ‘there it is,’ or ‘here it is’, because Lafayette Girls Academy will be in your heart.

“And inside your heart, we will always be there too.

“So therefore, seniors of Lafayette Girls Academy! By the powers bestowed to me as your class president! I hereby say you are all graduated!”

Everyone throws their caps up in the air, cheering and screaming. Overhead, P-40 Warhawks painted Navy blue with Fleur-de-Lis painted on their wings buzz and shake the ground, streaking white trails at the wing tips against a bright blue sky.

The LGA Class of 2016 has graduated.

You meet with Gertrude and Griselda once things begin settling down. People hug each other, crying and weeping at the thought of possibly never seeing each other again or realizing that their long time roommates and friends are going to be separated. These things happen however.

Gertrude says, “That was a good speech, Ellie. Not as good as mine obviously but-“ Griselda gently punches Gertrude. “Ow! Heh. You hit hard, Gris.”

“I learned from you,” she says. Gertrude looks down at her diploma, then looks at the glass case holding her dogwood flower. It was backgrounded by a steel fleur-de-lis with the year of graduation stamped on it. Gertrude looks at it lovingly, and for a moment you can see some tears welling up in her eyes. “You okay?”

“Y-… Yeah.” Gertrude smiles, taking a deep breath. “I’m good.” She nods. “We better get going if we want to make the after party though.” She motions to Cupid, the M4A1E8 Sherman sitting at the curb. “Come on, Griselda. You up for a drive?”

Griselda blinks, stunned. After a few seconds however, she grins. “Y… yeah.” She sniffles a bit. “Yeah, I’d like that.”

With that, the two sisters climb up into the front seats. They start up the tank, and get rolling down the street to the applause and cheer of many. Flowers are thrown onto the streets as people celebrate not just Gertrude’s departure, but the informal parade of other departing seniors. Their tank stands above them all. Two sisters on a scenic drive together, probably the last one they’ll have for quite a while, maybe even ever. It fills your heart with warmth and tender bitterness.

You watch them go. That’ll be you one day.

Winona comes up behind you, as does Stack, Ingrid, and Josephina. Jock too as well stands next to you, smiling. “So Gertrude’s really gone,” says Winona.

Stack blinks. “Well, what the hell do we do now?”

“We party, duh,” Ingrid says. “After party’s got shitloads of free food, Stack!” Stack’s eyes brighten at that, as do yours. “Come on!” The two of them start running down the street.

“Er, wait! I want some too!” Josephina yells after them.

Jock hugs you from behind, squeezing his hands below your chest. Winona walks beside as you well, smiling. Jock says, “That was a good speech, Ellie.”

“Thanks,” you say. “I couldn’t have done it without you,” you say mockingly.

Winona says, “Still.” Her smile drops a bit. “Gertrude’s been a big part of this place. What are we going to do without her?”

“We can carry her legacy for one thing. After all, she didn’t save this school for us to muck it up by going stagnant and being a bunch of yahoos on some extended vacation. Everything we do, we pass on to the next year.”

Winona smiles. “Yeah. Yeah, you’re right!” She pumps her arm. “This day forward, after the summer we’ll be sophomores! We’ll have underclassmen! Can you believe that!?” Well, for one thing as an Officer you’re basically everyone’s upperclassman regardless. “We’ll have so many people asking us for help, we’ll be the reliable big sisters, Elodie!”

“Winona the big sister, why does that terrify me,” you say sarcastically. Winona pouts, glaring at you a little. “I’m joking.”

“Hmph! You’ll see, people will love me lots!” she declares. With that, she runs off ahead to catch up with the others. Jock still hugs you from behind though, walking with you.

“You know, that dress uniform looks really good on you, Elodie,” he says. “I never get tired of seeing you wear it. It’s especially good backlit against the sun.”

“Haha, very funny. The dress whites don’t go see through against light, idiot,” you say. He snickers, resting his head on your shoulder. “You coming to the after party?”

“Of course,” he says. “Jack will be there as are most of the other pilots. A lot of people there are going to be interested in meeting you. And I gotta be the one to remind them that you’re my girlfriend you know.” Oh, darling. You wrap your hands around his, smiling. “I tell you though, Elodie. We’ve been together almost a year now, can you believe that?”

“A few more months to our one year anniversary I think,” you say. “You got anything special planned?”

“Nah, do you?” he asks.

“… maybe,” you say.

“What?” he asks. You look away, smirking. “What is it?” Oh, nothing. He’ll see next time he gets you into bed with him though.
>>

“Ow!” You look ahead and see a kid fall at the curbside, a young boy. You and Jock walk up to him. He dusts himself off however and tries to pick himself back up before seeing you’re offering a hand to him. “Eh?” He looks up and sees who you are. “Oh! You’re-…”

“Elodie Zumwalt,” you say. He takes your hand. He can’t be anymore than five or six. With some dusty blonde hair and a bandage over his nose. “Where are your parents?”

“Oh, I lost them,” he says.

“Do you want us to help you look for them?” asks Jock.

“No, it’s okay! I know where they are, I was just looking around,” says the kid. “But you’re Elodie Zumwalt!” He grins. “You’re really pretty.” Oh shucks. You look at Jock. He smirks, quirking his brow. Hey, a five year old agreeing with you does not mean anything. “You know my sister really wanted to go to LGA. But she can’t now.”

“Why not?” you ask. He shrugs. Oh, not talkative, huh.

“She really wanted to do the Tankery thing,” says the kid. “I think I’ll do it for her though! What do you think?” Jock folds his arms. A boy doing Tankery? He smirks, looking at you.

You kneel down beside him, putting a hand on his shoulder. “Don’t make her dreams yours. If you want to, you have every right to. But understand that Tankery isn’t for everyone.”

He nods, looking down at the ground. “Yeah, I know.”

“Do you still want to do it?” you ask.

“Yeah!” He grins, showing a gap where a tooth was, probably a lost baby tooth. “I want to be like you, Elodie! And I want to be like Gertrude and Griselda and Iris! All of you! You’re all so big and you get to ride in big tanks! So why can’t I one day?” That’s… true. You smile at him.

“Michael!” yells someone. “Michael! Oh my God!” A woman comes from the crowd, quickly snatching the boy up in her arms. “I’m so sorry, did he bother you?”

“No, no, it’s alright,” you say. You and Jock look at him. “He’s a good kid.”

“Aw, I know,” she says. “Michael, say thank you to the nice woman.”

“Thank you!” Michael waves at you as the woman takes him away.

The two of you stand there. You just told a boy he could do Tankery if he wanted to. What is the world coming to now? You shake your head, snickering at that. “Welp.” Jock suddenly snatches you up in his arms.

“Wagh! What the- what are you doing!?” you shout.

“You know what I’m doing,” he says. “I’m practicing for our wedding night!” You go red intensely. He WHAT. You are not going to- What!? “Don’t argue, you know you love being picked up!”

“W-… Well I do!” You fold you arms, pouting intensely. “Hmph. Still. This is…” He gently kisses your forehead. “Okay, you can carry me there. Just no PDA. I don’t want to be lewd in public.” He grunts, agreeing. You sigh, feeling yourself melt in his arms. Still, marriage night? As if. This is high school. He’s gotta be interested in other girls. “… Marriage, huh?”

Jock shrugs. “Look, long ways away. But what matters is that tonight is your night as much as it is Gertrude and Griselda’s. We’re going to celebrate, okay?”

“Yeah.” You smile. Celebrate Gertrude and Griselda’s going away. You gently peck his cheek then say, “Here’s to the future then!” You pump your fist in the air. “Lafayette Forever! Woo!” Jock shouts with you, starting to run now. “Whoa, Jock! Jock! Ahaha!” You laugh hard as Jock carries you through the streets at a dead sprint.

Lafayette Forever.

Looking back on all of it now, it seems a little silly to think that Tankery was such a big part of my life back then. But that’s how it was. And I will admit now, it still is. I still crewed with the NATO team, XO for all of those years. Me and Iris together, along with several of the others. The original team splintered over the four years that I was there. People leave for various reasons or other things. We never could keep the original roster together for a season but we always held reunions even after we all graduated. And heck, the team grew quite big over the years too thanks to that win against Mei. So it wasn’t all bad.

Looking back on where they are now, it’s interesting to see where everyone went.

> CLAUDIA ST. SIMON
> Claudia was a very feisty girl, and she went through all four years with us in Tankery. After graduating, she attended Yale and eventually went into politics. She was elected to the US House of Representatives representing the state of Pennsylvania where she takes her fiery remarks and language through Congress. From what I hear right now, she’s pushing through a universal health care bill that will guarantee health care for every American at zero cost. Of course, it does mean having to pay higher taxes, but she’s still working on that.

> LYRA CALDWELL
> Lyra and I sparred a lot but it was always a friendly thing between us. She never left the team. And for a time, she even served as a secondary Officer when Griselda graduated alongside Iris. When she graduated, she elected to stay aboard to serve an advisory role for the incoming Freshmen. A lot of them tell me she’s a hardass but she’s fair. And recently though, I heard she actually discovered a comet too. And even more recently, she got engaged. Funny that.

> KATHY JONES (WHEELER)
> Kathy left the team after the 2016 Fall Tournament to focus on her archaeology studies. She later attended Harvard and started field work as a Professor for their archaeology department. And stunningly enough, and I shit you not, she somehow found the lost city of Atlantis. I’m still baffled myself but there it is. She’s writing a book about it now. Apparently it wasn’t as exciting as the media portrays it to be but she’s probably just being modest. Right now she’s coming aboard LGA to serve as their new History Department chairwoman, a quiet little retirement from public life she tells me. She got married too to a colleague and I think they’re expecting a child in a few months.
>>
>>3359437
> ELYSE SMYTHE (VAN DER LYNDE)
> Elyse rode my coattails all the way to her graduation, even after the rest of her fan club disbanded after finding their own paths in life. Even though I kept telling her time and again to think for herself, she always finds some way to imitate me. I suppose it’s the sincerest form of flattery in the end. Still, she actually managed to get married out of High School. She met someone who sincerely loved her for her. The two attended UVA and I hear they settled down in the Piedmont. We still correspond though and I actually visited recently.

> They have nine kids. She’s real happy though. Two of them are actually looking to go into Tankery.

> DELILAH “DUCHESS” SCHAEFER
> She left the team in 2018 because somehow she actually got herself a movie role in a weird new Spiderman reboot where Spiderman is now a cute girl or something. She played the role surprisingly well though. And after she graduated, she went into Hollywood. She’s mostly typecast now as a spunky young action girl but she couldn’t be happier. The success of that Spiderman movie means she gets any role she wants, and she really loves acting it seems. I’m proud of her. She even got the rest of the Survivalists movie jobs with her too as stuntwomen.

> HADLEY CARVER
> After Hadley left, she pursued the Naval Studies course vigorously. Even though she tried to make time for Tankery, she could never stay on for a full season. However, her commitment paid off eventually and she made Block Officer by the time of her Senior Year. She was so well-respected that by the time she graduated, thousands of Naval Studies students came out to congratulate her personally. After graduating, she joined the US Navy and now captains the CVN-78 USS Gerald Ford Aircraft Carrier. Not as big as LGA but she’s official at least.

> JANE FOGERTY
> Jane and her band were an on and off addition to the team for the four years that I was there. They really loved music more than tanks I would say really. But what I can say though is that after they graduated, they kept on jamming together. They formed a band called “Yag Teeger”, they play a lot of rock. It’s really popular these days, tops the charts a lot. They come by to tour LGA a lot though, on their own dime too. It’s their school after all.
>>
>>3359439
> BENNY CORREA (RODRIGEUZ)
> Benny and crew kept with the team all the way up to Junior year. She merged her club with Dalia’s own and they always kept together to discuss cars and tanks. When she graduated, she got certified for the Automotive trade and now she manages a garage down in Florida. A lot of her former crew went down there to work with her as well. Benny also got married to a used car salesman. I don’t usually trust their kind, but he did buy her a genuine diamond ring with money he had been building up for years and he did help pay for the renovations to her garage so I’ll give him a pass.

> SERINA HILDEBRAND
> Serina and the Motorcycle Club there on LGA actually stayed on LGA after they successfully graduated. They came above their delinquent status but decided to form a motorcycle club aboard LGA. Thankfully they don’t cause a lot of trouble, they’re actually quite nice people. On the side, Serina also teaches History and Moral Philosophy class to kids too, just like Miss McPherson. She and I talk a lot, and she always thanks me for helping her and the crew out of their little rut. I didn’t really do much, they did the heavy lifting really.

> DALIA EARNHARDT
> Aside from Iris and Lyra and Elyse, Dalia was one of the other static structures of the team. She remained by my side in my element all the way to our graduation. And for that I cannot be prouder. After saying goodbye to her crew though, she opted to go the path of becoming a race car driver in NASCAR. Unfortunately, a pretty bad crash on her first race put her out for good. But she didn’t give up. NASCAR was out of her reach, but instead she went back to tank racing. And boy is she good at it, because she’s one of the world’s leading racers right now.

> REGINA KESSEL (TANEY)
> Regina left the team after the 2017 Fall Tournament. She wanted to get around to reforming a lot of safety things around LGA. And reform she did. By the time she graduated, LGA was rated the #1 safest Academyship to work in. She later joined the US Coast Guard and now is one of their top rescue helicopter pilots. Not bad for a heavy tank commander.

> SERAFINA MACZEK
> Serafina continued with the team for a while, she had to take a year off in 2017 however to manage the Polish Students Association. After graduating, Serafina attended GWU and decided to go into becoming a lawyer. She became certified a few years ago after finishing law school and now from what I hear, she’s now a shoe-in for the position of assistant DA for the city of Detroit. She plans to clean up the city from what I hear. I don’t doubt it.

> “SUVOROV”
> I never found out what the hell their real names were. Even looking through the records, nothing at all. After graduation, the entire club just up and disappeared. Though somehow I still run into them every now and again. Suvorov I ran into a Civil War reenactment acting like a Sweet Polly Oliver in Union uniform. Patton was teaching history in Europe but then I saw her teaching gym class in Asia. Clausewitz apparently was arctic exploring before somehow inventing a working hydrogen fuel cell, the same type that powers our cars now.

> Giap is the only person I know who actually has a normal life. She works as a chef in a pho restaurant that I go to every week or so.

> IRIS BLACKBOURNE
> Iris remained with the team all throughout the four years of her education. She continued on with the Etiquette Club on the side too, and eventually their club expanded from five people to several hundred by the time she graduated. The Etiquette Club almost became synonymous with Tankery in the end actually and we always got a lot of recruits from it. But none of them were as skilled as Iris.

> Despite Iris being bombarded with offers to join professional teams both out of high school and after she graduated from Princeton, Iris decided it was better to simply open a café where she serves the finest tea to her patrons. From what she told me, “I hate the spotlight, I really do. Tankery is excellent fun. But a good cup of tea on a nice warm summer day, sun on your face, and with a good book in your hands? Nothing beats that in my opinion. A lady does what she feels is right. And this is right to me.”

> She and I still talk. I love visiting her.

> OLEG
> Despite all my efforts and everything else. I never found out what happened to Oleg. The man who kept our tanks running at nearly no cost was gone somehow. I hope he found some place to rest and be at peace. Maybe he’s still working on tanks and planes out there. Who knows. I hope he knows I’m still grateful for what he did.

> THE CREW OF THADDEUS, MCPHERSON, DUROCHER, EMERSON, DILLON, SANDUSKY
> From what I heard, they still remained at their old jobs. They never got married, probably too late for them at that point, though I’d disagree with that sentiment. Unfortunately Miss Durocher passed away last year. I get the feeling the others will pass on soon. Despite what happened to them however and despite all the hate and bitterness, they still saw fit to attend Miss Durocher’s funeral and on her headstone engrave “LOVING SISTER, COMMANDER OF THADDEUS, SENSHADOU PLAYER TO THE END”
>>

> MEI XIANG
> She and I remained rivals all throughout my time in LGA. We lost some to her, she lost some to us. But in the end, I think she learned as much as I did from her. We keep our conversations short and to the point. But there’s no real malice behind it. We’re just different people. We disagree on things. But I respect her ability to tank as well as she does for me. Arisu and the Shimada-ryuu later forgave her and invited her back. But she chose not to go back.

> Instead, Mei founded her own Academy for Senshadou in China. It takes a little bit from everything. The Shimada-ryuu, the Nishizumi-ryuu, and from what I heard she even has some of Gertrude’s old tricks in there. I visited there a few times.

> She brews a good green tea.

> DENISE, HILDA, FINA, ATHENA, AND TESSA
> Fina went into police work after she graduated. She ascended to the rank of Detective is now one of the premier homicide detectives of New York City. They call her “Find-It Fina” or more accurately from what I hear “Fucking Fina” because anytime she’s on the crime scene all she says is “Fuck”. Still, she works hard, and I’m glad to hear she’s happy where she is, busting criminals and doing the Lord’s work.

> Hilda went into banking, as I expected honestly. She’s a fairly honestly banker too and from what I hear now, she’s sitting on the board of directors for one of the largest banking companies in the United States. A pretty young director too. She offers me discounts but I always turn them down, I’d hate to make her feel like she owes me anything.

> Athena and Tessa were once again friends with Griselda after they sorted out their differences. Once Griselda graduated, Tessa went into sound design and Athena went with her just to make sure nobody was giving her any undue stress. Up to a point, they decided to record a podcast together, and now they have an incredibly popular sports podcast on Tankery. I was a guest there once, they made me feel so welcome there.

> And as for Denise? Denise continued to be my personal assistant all the way through LGA, even after she became a Senior and he wasn’t obligated to do so anymore. Once she graduated, she kind of dropped off the map after a while and I couldn’t find her again. It gave me some stress wondering what happened to her.

> And then I go to the Oval Office to meet the President, as you sometimes do. She’s in the Oval Office dusting the curtains. Apparently the President hired her because not only was she good at cleaning, she was also really good at doing everything else around the White House. She’s looking to get married too eventually. She apparently fell out of contact with me because apparently she couldn’t get a job after graduating from LGA for various reasons out of her control. She was even homeless for a year or too. But now that she was on her feet, she wanted to catch up.

> It was a shame really, I would’ve done a lot of things in my power to help her. But I’m glad she’s found her footing.
>>

> INGRID BLACKSTONE (BERRA)
> Ingrid stayed with the crew, juggling her job with the Girls Baseball team and with her role as an RO. She and Stack always got in each other’s skin but they were a fine pair together. I can’t imagine one without the other, at least back then I couldn’t. After graduating, Ingrid attended school in New York and eventually got into the New York Mets front office on recommendation from her mother. Her talent for statistics and coordination not only led to the Mets winning the World Series in 2020, their farm system is ranked as the first in the nation.

> Ingrid also coaches Little League alongside her husband too. She met a guy in the farm system who could catch and hit, but just stayed out of the Major Leagues, never making it above Triple A. The two love each other greatly. And I’m really happy for them. They’re up in Utica now and I try to make time to visit.

> JOSEPHINA DEGRASSE
> Despite the wishes of her parents, she remained my driver all the way through school. Her mother and father eventually relented and allowed her to pursue Tankery if she wanted. And that’s what she did. After graduating, she took a Professional Contract and became a driver for the US National Team, becoming noted as one of the best tank drivers in the world.

> Then she quit a few years back. She retired back to Canada. She decided to get into coaching Tankery up there. When I asked her why she did this, she told me, “The spotlight was so blinding so to speak.” And I have to say, it put things into perspective for me. She’s real happy where she is. And I hear she’s dating someone too. Obviously someone shorter than her but you know how these things go.

> SAMANTHA “STACK” ROBERTS
> Stack kept on with the loading business through school and even after graduating. She became one of the National team MVPs alongside Josephina too. But like Josephina, she eventually gave it up. Stack returned to Texas and decided to go into trucking instead. But she couldn’t hold a job there long because eventually Automation caught up and she ended up cut.

> However, that wasn’t the end for her. Her loading talents stayed with her. And she continued to exercise and lift and lift to keep herself in shape. Well, one day, someone passed by her gym and offered her a job. Doing what? Training the Olympic weightlifters of course. And she’s still there for the National Tankery team too, and for others. It’s a quiet spot for her, and she absolutely loves it because she knows she’s the strongest person in the room.

> WINONA GRIFFITHS
> Winona and I remained the best of friends through school and through the years to come. Despite the opportunity she turned down inheriting her Father’s company and decided instead that once she graduated, she’d finally go into Unlimited just like she wanted. I was there to see her on her first match. And she was pretty good.

> She only played for a few years though. After that, Winona went into technical stuff, engineering and what not. She actually got picked up by a private space tourism company to serve as one of their chief engineers. Her design is actually is being selected to be one of the first interstellar transports being sent to the rings of Saturn. Of course, it was the third iteration, apparently it took a lot to talk her down from using bombs to propel the ships.

> Still, she and I are still as close as we were in those days. I couldn’t ask for a better friend.

> JEEP JOCKEY
> He’s my husband now. Doesn’t need much else. That’s personal stuff.

That’s really all I know of most of these people. My friends, my crew, everyone. There’s probably still some loose ends to catch up on I’m sure. But we had a lot of fun together in the end. And I couldn’t ask for better.

I’ve got my little girl in my arms now. Me and Jock are walking over to the Hangar to see if Oliver is still there. He better be. After Jock, he’s your best boy after all. He carried you through so much. And well… So did all of you. And I’m glad we were all together as a team. We made it. Our journey’s over. The race is run. So much has happened over the years that I want to tell you about but I don’t have time to. But in the end, what matters is what we do with the time that we have given to us. And I think I’ve done quite enough. So this is the end.

Thank you all for everything.
>>
Thanks for all of this, boss. For starting it, for finishing it. And for the fun along the way.

It's finally over.

So for those of you who stuck through with LGA 2 to the bitter end, here we are. From 2016 to 2019. To put things into perspective for you, I didn't have a job in 2016, I was out of classes, I was basically nothing but a NEET with no real prospects. I figured I'd run LGA2 and that'd be that.

Then I got a job doing something I really love now. I have real prospects with my life now. And nowadays I feel much better about myself. Of course it came at a cost. Quests are not what they used to be obviously but these things happen. But what I consider myself happy for is that you were all here to be part of the Lafayette Girls Academy-verse with me. This piece of writing will always hold a special place in my heart not just because of what it means to me, but what it might mean to you the reader.

You were always there for me when I ran this Quest. Even when things got bad, even when I was feeling down in the pits. Even on my worst days, you were there for me as much as I was for you.

I'm sure we've had our ups and downs, our poor days and our triumphs. What matters most is that we get through it all together. That's what the waifus would want after all I suppose.

I want to thank all of you deep down from the bottom of my heart. There's too many of you to name really. But you know who you are, and I know too who you all are. Doing this Quest, even during my darkest days, has kept me afloat. We have braved the storm and crossed the ocean, and now land is in sight and the sun is in our faces.

I want you anons to remember as you go about your days after this is done. Know that I love you just the way you are. And there is someone too who loves you as well. Cherish what you have. Love those close to you. And remember that the spirit of the tanks will always be with you. You are not alone.

As for me, there's always writing to do. I might run more Quests. I might try and get myself published one day. But there's not gonna be anymore LGA. This is the last dance.

As always, you can find me at my twitter here: https://twitter.com/GermanSchteel
Or in my discord here: https://discord.gg/9e9yvfv

Goodbye, and I'll see you all next time.

Thank you.

Thanks for running boss. It's been such a great experience getting to take part in LGA2, and I'll never forget it, I'm sure there's other that feel the same, whether they stuck through it from start to finish, fell off and had to pick back up or otherwise. Just finishing a project this huge, on the back of the first to boot is something very few QMs, or writers full stop could credit themselves with, so thank you.

Thanks for everything boss. It can't be overstated how much I looked forward to this every weekend. Don't let anyone ever tell you you don't have what it takes.

Thanks so much....I've been here since the first LGA thread, and wow....its been a trip. I couldn't make it to all the threads but it was fun nontheless.

While its sad not to have this anymore, it was gun and i guess all fun things must come to a end at some point.

Thansk for the fun, and tank discussion (i loved those)

Me too anon, talking tanks all day was great.

Ah hell its real. Its over.

Thanks for everything boss, its been a great ride.

>tfw finished Lafayette S1 days ago
>started on S2
>goes to catalog
>suddenly LGA 2: Epilogue
[panic reading]
Still not finished and missed it, aw.
From what I read so far though, S2 seems better than S1, from the way it's handled: the format allows for more battles, and make it seem like it's less railroady than S1, and the wins seems more rewarding too.
If you ask me though, the shenanigans are more fun in S1.
>>

>Still not finished and missed it, aw.
My sympathy to you.
Just curious, how'd you get into LGA 1?

LGA 1 was a load of fun. But it was the tale of a girl trying to do the impossible.

LGA 2 is the story of a young woman committing to something and making friends along the way.

I do appreciate the differences in tone and pace and LGA 1 was a hoot, but I'm still glad that LGA 2 wasn't just a do-over of 1
>>
I only really lurked the threads, but I had a fun time. I still remember reading the end of the LGA 1 in my dorm room, haha.

I remember marathoning the first half of the original LGA after I finished GuP, but I've been with LGA 2 from the start. Thanks for the fun time, Schteel.

>Just curious, how'd you get into LGA 1?
I enjoyed Girls und Panzer, itching to read some new quests, then saw Lafayette in the catalog, so I went "Sure, why not?" then read from the start.
The way on how German gives the victor is intense as fuck in S1 though, gotta give him that.
S2 uses more OCs too, instead of the setting's characters, which was nice, also that based tactics anon, MVP everytime.
>>
>>3361501
It was an interesting thing to pop up at the time too, because whatsisname was running the big GuP quest at the time about a male team getting recruited to Ooarai. And what was thought to be the copycat turned out to have the staying power to not just finish the first quest, but start and finish a second one while the first just drifted off.
>>
It's over? Hell, I guess it is.

Schteel I'll be honest with ya--I dropped off somewhere around a quarter of the way through this season, maybe a third. But among all the other quests going on and that tumultuous migration over to /qst/ it was nice seeing LGA there, sticking it out. Seeing you still trucking. It conjured up an inkling of the emotional cocktail you get walking or driving past that one mall that used to be your stomping grounds, back when you and your friends had those aspirations to be a band and how you always had the dream of going to the same university together, or at least staying friends after graduation. That mixture of wistful nostalgia and bemused wonderment, back when things were simpler and the world wasn't so big or so scary or so damn complicated.

Always enjoyed your quests, Schteel. Sometimes when I need a dose of some good bantz I read back on the old threads of Magical Green Lantern or LGA 1. You do good work, man. It's good, in a way, that there's an end to this story--leave it to others to do with the format what they will, but the quest was a product of a board that shifted in taste, and while it was pleasant while it was around its departure means we can hopefully see something new come around to replace it. Keep trucking, Schteel. We're rooting for ya, wherever ya end up.
>>
And finished with reading.
What a blast, never felt so intense on reading quests, while I am sad to see it go, everything must always come to an end.
But you know, there might be no more LGA, we can always have another schoolship.
Thanks Sctheel for your runs, you are awesome.
Time to find another quest to eat my free time again...
>>
these quests are so boring I want more tank battles holy shit
