Welcome to revival civ, where the quest's name was tested out quickly last time as the first nation we chose got wiped at record speed. A tragedy to be sure, but one behind us - in the present day, you are the people of Dvoreshka, a large tribal confederation, largest among the western Dumin tribes, that is in a process of modernization and conflict between the ancestral pagan traditions of the land and the new ways of the east, with their feudal structures and belief in a single God. Over the last two decades this process of change has been the most important aspect of politics in Dvoreshka, but not the only one - our first war against our northern neighbours, Ursir, was a success that led to Dvoreshkan expansion, but most recently the discontent among pagan leaders in our nation led to changes in the governance, though the Grand Knyaz, Boril-Gregor, remains a Theophantic believer, he has put his duty to the nation above that to his God. The establishment of a feudal system where before there stood an informal tribal-oligarchic, confederative model is causing some amount of unrest, with taxation and currency being a new addition to life in the nation, though only having just appeared last year.
You are the honorable members of the Duma, a council of nobles and high priests that exists to advise the Grand Knyaz in his decisions, while on your own time advancing your personal goals. It is a new spring and the Duma meets once more to discuss matters of state.

The border regions should be easiest to influence, the swamplands hold some rather stubborn communities. The Knyazdom of Olfa has been attempting to expand its own influence according to rumors, into the lowlands inbetween.

Diplomatic efforts in the border regions were quite successful, with many marriages being struck. The people there are quite similar to us, speaking the same language and sharing our cults. The major feudals along that border have all benefited to various degrees from the shifts in power and relations.

An abundance of iron allows better and larger tools to become more widespread, making fewer peasants rely on their fingers when it comes to planting. The scythe is becoming better known to peasants, as well as better cattle-mounted tools that improve the efficiency of fieldwork.

Dumin have built ships for many centuries, but only in more recent times has the craft seen some change, from the simple canoes of old into some vessels using sails and oars, the technology having spread along the Alga when the first Kalborans arrived in its upper regions a century or so ago. Boats are used for fishing and transport and are of varrying sizes - all ships built in our lands are usable along the Alga, Grozhna and the sea coast. Making a ship is no small task, however - for it, a large amount of resource and craftsmanship is needed and thus it is usually done by artels - informal collectives of craftsmen from larger villages and towns. An artel may typically build one or two rivergoing ships every year and they'll be used for several years on average. Ships are usually built in winter or spring, when fishing is harder or outright impossible. In some places, there are entire small forests, including a few small islands on the Alga, that are dedicated to the growing of trees to be used for shipmaking and in more traditional communities the making of a ship will include a priest of the Wood cult and the Water cult.

What should we do as it relates to naval matters?

C.Focus on transport

A ladya is what one would call a proper river ship in our land - now, basing our designs on what we've seen from the Ursir, we've built the naboinaya ladya - the battle boat. The Grand Knyaz will dedicate a large part of his funds to building such boats in the coming years, as the time of peace won't last forever.

Three of the ships were lost to a harsh storm once we went beyond the coastal waters. The two that survived the storm emerged on the other side to find an island, yet in its shallows a fourth vessel was lost, the hull punctured and the sailors being swallowed into the waters. The fifth ship stayed at a safer distance, merely observing the island for a bit before heading back home.
From what we can say for now, that island is the only thing we've found in the west, beyond the point at which we were comfortable with sailing. It appears to be of middling size, with steep terrain rises and rocky shallows. The Water-faithful among the sailors who survived this expedition were quite disheartened, some of them speaking of old sailors' tales of the deepwater rusalkas and their lairs that must not be disturbed.

A proclamation in the name of the Grand Knyaz is sent to all corners of the realm. It is made known that all seers, healers, shamans and whatsits are welcome at the court of our ruler.
Those who are able to demonstrate their mysterious powers before witnesses are to be offered direct patronage by the Grand Knyaz in return for serving his household (and by extension, our realm) faithfully.

Most of the people who came were not too impressive in their demonstrations in the Grand Knyaz's eye
"If you need me to drink some concotion of elderberry and youth's piss to see these smoking spirits, then perhaps they are not at all so impressive" he said, sending one off
"What you did there, I've heard of it being done by eastern physicians - it's hardly a miracle of God to apply the proper skill in setting a displaced bone back into its proper place." he said to another
One man was of certain interest to the Grand Knyaz, however - blind in one eye, he put cloth over both nevertheless to further deprive himself of his sight, yet despite that was able to read random writing presented to him, to correctly tell how many fingers were held up and similar queries. He was the first one to be of true interest, a diviner it would seem - yet he used his opportunity to speak afterwards, removing his cloth, to address the Grand Knyaz and the Duma members present.
"A bird can not fly with a single wing, nor can it perch atop two trees at once. Your hearts, split in halves, will give no life but that of death to Dvoreshka should you remain so blind and foolish. You, Grand Prince, whose faith is worth no more than this sack I put upon my eyes, your time will be over soon enough and the hearts of your people will be put to test. Rivers of blood shan't quench the screaming fires and suffocating snows, for the Wolf and Bear may fight, but it is the Raven who feasts."
The diviner turned around and left on his way. The guards nearby went to stop him, but the Grand Knyaz, clutching at his heart, told them to stop. Once the old diviner had left the palace, Boril-Gregor fainted, though thankfully he woke some time later. The Grand Knyaz is quite old now, over half a century of life behind him. After his recovery, he seems to spend more time praying than actively working on matters of state.

The Grand Knyaz, through his envoys, has negotiated with Olka and Ursir. Trade along the Alga and the sea coast can begin and be undisturbed and nobles from Dvoreshka can safely travel in Ursir. The Grand Knyaz believes our northern neighbors aren't interested in warring with us now - rumors claim Hrork's sons had conflicts over succession and control of their realm in previous years.
Olka is eager to get involved in the south and are making their preparations for war against Olfa. It's up to us to start the action.

Several southern tribes have accepted our gifts and sworn loyalty to Dvoreshka's Grand Knyaz; Some have turned them away and declared neutrality; Others have firmly rejected them - in particular, the swamp-dwelling tribes - who have allied themselves with Olfa, who have gained friends elsewhere according to rumors - the first border skirmishes between Olka and Olfa had warriors from Shlin aiding Olfa. Grand Knyaz Boril-Gregor has penned and sent his official declaration of war and is now calling upon his vassals to assemble their armies...
We'll continue with this war next time, likely Monday. Until then, you can do your Faction projects for 1120-1130.

>Faction Project: Protecting what is yours [Auto 50]
The Zagadka have spent the decade using their increase in wealth to expand their borders by building a series of watch towers around their domain's borders. These structures will act as both territory markers but most importantly warning systems so in the event of attack people within can begin to escape before the attackers are upon their doorstep! Fortunately all the materials needed are already here! We have wood from the forest and iron and Stone from the mine itself! The goal is just over one tower per year, honestly a simple task. (Each tower contains a warning horn or gong.)

Faction project: Drill troops
The House of Radjan is not known for wealth, thus the warrior in its service can’t be expected to rely on their equipment to win the day. But, there are other ways to win battles.
The Samograd and Uzhnei tribesmen under the rule of Radjan are to engage in regular drills, with an emphasis on quick movement and adaptability when it comes to utilizing close and loose formations. Hit and run tactics where the enemy is pelted with javelins before a rapid charge is launched should suit their rugged homeland well enough.

Tribe of Vyat:
Settled by the coastline west of Svetales, the Vyati have always been undividedly devout followers of the Durvid. They are concentrated in the coastal town of Celllom though many farmsteads dot the plains inbetween there and the forest's edge. Great value is placed upon honor with duels over personal slights commonplace among their foolhardy youths. To dishonor yourself by lying or breaking your word is paramount to committing murder in their eyes. Even greater is the pursuit of glory that drives their people to organize raids upon the Mochorans to the north. While some would consider them pessimistic, the Vyati simply view death as a transition between either being reborn once more or joining the ancestors in a blessed existence. This burgeoning warrior culture has climaxed in the ascension of Boyar Stanimir who has begun organizing his people once more for a time of war.

Assets:
-Small Coastal Town
-Scattered Farmsteads
-Small Ranger Order
-Durvid Advisors

Faction Project: Construct a Bowyer for the mass manufacturing of high quality bows

Our people have long favored the bow for it's ranged capabilities but the task of making them has usually been delegated to the hunters themselves or lone specialists. This hasn't been a problem until recently when the establishment of the ranger order marked a sharp increase in demand for high quality bows. Simple craftsmen reassigned to the task create weapons barely fit for hunters while the true bowyers are so little and far inbetween that they could not hope to match the production needed. Staminir ultimately decides to have the accomplished bowyers take on apprentices from the craftsmen and for them all to work in one location where they could organize and delegate any tasks efficiently. He would personally oversee the construction of a complex suitable for all of their needs along the outskirts of Celllom. Woodcutting operations would be expanded as well to supply the Bowyer but only with Durvid supervision to ensure rite compliance and that only what was necessary would be cut. Surely the tribe's close connection with the trees would allow them to churn out bows both faster and of higher quality than their competitors yet doubt often crept into the back of his mind. Staminir dearly hoped this would enable the order to flourish while providing Vyat with it's first trade good beyond simple produce.

The tribe of Rade have long dwelt in the town of Blatnik as simple farmers, hunters and craftsmen never being truly wealthy but never truly sinking into poverty. The Bolyars of this land have often sat content with what they have but not the newest one Blago Brutislav! Raised in Olka and a world traveler he has set about making his home great and building it into something beyond a simple backwater! He brings home from his travels a small herd of fine horses, knowledge of the world, new faith and a burning passion to make things better!

-Marriage to a Princess of Olka 1127

Knyaz Blago Brutislav would reach out to the minor Boyars whose tribes live along the trade road towards Serebrin. One by one he would seek to convince them to join with his Knyazdom in exchange for building each a small motte and bailey castle to defend their holdings along the road. The Forest Cult
Devout worshippers of the trees, the forest cult are fanatically devoted to the protection and worship of the eldest trees in the forest. Spread thinly across the main forest that they reside in, many members of the forest cult are primitive hunters who maintain the land around them as shepards as well as living off of it. Occasionally they'll head into town to talk to hunting/lumber groups, to share tales, trade animal furs, or trade rare edible plant materials/drugs to the populace. Otherwise, they are reserved to many scattered areas across many forests, centered around the eldest and grandest trees in the area. The elder babas and wise sages of the cult regularly take natural drugs to allow them to commune with these forest spirits, gaining their infinite wisdom and learning how best to protect the forest, which usually involves putting religious markings on the bark of the oldest trees which serves as a sign to lumberjacks to avoid cutting these down.

Assets: Forest spirit communing, natural drugs, knowledge of nature, wise elders, basic ranger training grounds

Faction Project: Woodland expansion
With the large degree of funding from multiple sources being flooded into the Durvid forest cult, it's prime time for a general expansion. Currently we only cover a small portion of the forests throughout Dvoreshka, leaving hundreds of thousands of trees unmarked and unguarded. This expansive effort shall seek to fix this issue, with more priests being recruited and trained, more forest caretakers being indoctrinated, and more small forest shrines being built to commemorate the trees of the forest. The main goal shall be to at least cover the majority of the forest of Svetales, but should that end up covered then the cult shall look to expand its look to the forest of the Alga river, possibly planting a large number of trees between the two to connect it into one large forest.

Our leader has always been the same for millennia, Overlord. It matters not who they were before they donned the title and clothes, except save one, their mastery of the night arts. Preferring the moonless nights to the sun-filled skies, they walk amongst the shade wherever they please. They are into everything and nothing. Opaque is the word, for when you believe you have grasped them, they disappear.

Tavern (Serves as spy network)
Gymnasium (Serves as gambling club)
Banking house (Serves as thieves den)
Whorehouse (Serves as assassins guild)

We are at the heart of the land, able to quickly dispatch agents wherever they may need be by water or over land.

Our motives? Why, knowledge is power of course. What more would a person want than to know more about their neighbors?

Just a few things.
1 We dont have banking.
2 not sure if the overlord is actually millennia old but so far we havent seen anything which points to people being able to live for that long.
3 We are a Slavic people so maybe make the name more fitting or that.

Ambitions were high and a large project was started, with great boulders being hauled and the earth carved out to erect a holy site more magnificent than any other - when it was almost finished, however, the earth itself shook, tremored and quaked - nearby villages up to the outskirts of Sekorek were affected and there were cave-ins in some of the mine tunnels that killed workers. By the decade's end, the mines are operational well enough once more, though workers are more superstitious. The Skalnovi, on the other hand, took a year to commune with the earth spirits and think upon their actions. >>3354149
Knyaz Alexov sent out riders to hit the enemey camps, but they were drawn into muddy and boggy grounds where the locals used traps and cunning schemes to unhorse and kill a large portion of our cavalry, limiting our scouting capabilities. The supply situation is also poor, which has forced you to push forward to sack any villages that can provide loot - unfortunately, those east of you were already raided by Nojus' men earlier, so it is a harsh push easttward with ever increasing casualties.
>>3354136
Several raids are quite successful, but just as you've almost filled your holds with loot, you decide one more attack on a larger settlement won't hurt - but that's where a more significant enemy force was waiting for you and you took a fair amount of casualties in manpower, though no ships were lost.

On the fourth, you started hearing the screams and seeing the floating bodies. On the fifth, your own ship rocked as something seemed to try and grab it. You barely escaped with yours and six other ships - another one of yours, two from Vingradets and two from Knezdvor. The sailors that remained scream at night, unable to shake the unease of what they didn't see.

You managed to raise the spirits of your men, hire new sailors and acquire command of a total of four new ships through varied means.

After the assault on the heart of the swamp, communication was lost with that army for several weeks, until a group of survivors - Nojus, Vuk and no more than a dozen others - finally made it out of the swamps. Of those dozen men, several died of disease or took their own lives soon afterwards, the army being effectively lost, though its commanders survived, the sight of the ground beneath their men sinking, the waters and plants of the swamp moving to swallow their soldiers whole being burned in their memories.

It is late autumn now. While the swamp army has been lost, the main army still has over five thousand men capable of fighting and is, at the moment, in good supply. The Olfans have mostly retreated to the presumed safety of their city's walls now, hoping to weather the storm.

We reach the Olfa river, on whose eastern banks stretch the wooden walls and earthworks of the city. Nearby bridges were burned, but we find a fording place some distance to the north and cross the river, linking up with Olka's army of six thousand Olkans and fourteen hundred of our men for a total fighting force of around eleven thousand men.
To overcome the walls, we'll need to build some ladders and rams and prepare for an assault - or we could try to encircle the city and starve it out

A siege it is - the Olkans believe their advance was fast enough that the Olfan army did not have time to gather enough supplies from the countryside, so we will be able to provide for ourselves, while the enemy is denied provision at the same time. Our fleet, even if weakened, will be called in to blockade the enemy and we will fortify our camps against any enemy attack.

Winter was not gentle, but it was not too harsh either. The Shlin stayed in their home mountains and our ships were enough to put pressure from the sea. The moormen raided our western supply routes, but we were able to provide from the local regions instead - and thus, we endured for months, until in the last weeks of winter the gates of Olfa opened. The Olkans rushed in, but their King reined them in and prevented too much destruction from happening. It seems the Knyaz of Olfa was stabbed during the night by scheming courtiers who have now sworn themselves to King Jaroslaos II of Olka. The people of the city were of low enough morale that they lacked the will to resist this coup and thus, the gates were opened.
Soon afterwards, the lowland tribes bend the knee one by one. By mid-spring, all that's left is the Uzhna swampland - how should we deal with it?

Warrior cults for our ancestral faiths.

Animal
The Brotherhood of the Beast is one of laymen, commoners who gather together to worship and protect their faith.
When violence must be done the faithful will gather together, perform a ritual sacrifice under the leadership of the Volh and smear their faces with the blood. Then they’ll utilize a combination of drugs and chanting to work themselves into a state of mind where fear and pain does not exist.
In battle they wear no armor, the sacred furs and ritual robes they wear believed to provide them with protection from the spirits, their fanatical fury and ability to hack their way through the enemy shieldwall the stuff of legends.

Water
The followers of the watercult are not known for being the most violent, but they will still fight fiercely to protect their sacred sites. The militants, usually supporting themselves as normal farmers and fishermen, will gather together once a week to be instructed in martial and spiritual matters by the Caretakers.
When dangers looms, they assemble at their sacred sites, the Caretakers dousing them in sacred water and leading them in battle-meditation before sending them forth. In battle they fight bare chested, the sacred water warding off the blades of the wicked, curved polearms in hand and their formation never yielding an inch.

Wood
The militants in service of the Cult of Wood, being few in number and needing to roam wast lands to look after their sacred trees, are known for their horsemanship. The priests often accompanied by small bands of bloodsworn warriors who more than make up for their lack of expensive armor with their skill and courage.
Their warriors, easily recognizable in their green attire and intricate tattoos, rely on light cavalry tactics, utilizing lances for rapid charges and bows to pepper the enemy with arrows. They acquit themselves well on the field of battle, and when it comes to raiding and skirmishing there are no finer men.

These disorganized bands* will listen eagerly to the words of the players that are playing as cults (so orange, naust and ham) and naturally be sworn to obey the Grand Knyaz

*if you want them to be properly organized and/or with a central base then you’ll have to do like kroeger and throw a project on it.

The funding previously reserved for the purpose will be used for the establishing of the Brotherhood of the Beast and the Bloodtide. The Forest Rangers are the existing order for the Wood Cult, so they might just receive a bit of new men and horses.

In the winter of 1134-1135, Grand Knyaz Boril-Gregor passed away peacefully in his bed. As per tradition, his son will inherit his personal holdings in Yantar, but Knezdvor and the rulership of Dvoreshka will belong to one who is chosen by the Duma - and that will be the member to receive the most support.
Vadim Gregorovich, eldest son of Boril, naturally announces his own candidacy, three days after his father's passing. He is known as a man of the people, a pagan and a frequent visitor of the Jutrodrvo brothels. He is 35 years old and claims to have gained much insight from the years by his father's side and promises to be an impartial and fair Grand Knyaz like him.

ELECTION RULES: No rolling is involved. If you wish to be a candidate, announce your name, age and explain why you should get support for the position.
If you want to support someone, reply to their candidacy and give your support. You can drop out of the race if you wish to support someone.

Another attempt at bringing useful shamans, seers, healers and soothsayers to the service of our ruler.
This time the Grand Knyaz will send loyal retainers to all corners of our realm, their assignment to ask about and seek out anyone rumored to wield mysterious powers and bring them to back to the capital.
Those who are able to demonstrate their mysterious powers before witnesses are to be offered direct patronage by the Grand Knyaz in return for serving his household (and by extension, our realm) faithfully.

Mystics of many kinds arrived in Knezdvor, this time all of them being vetted first across the regions of the nation.
From every one of the pagan cults, a group of priests, led by their cult leaders, arrived to demonstrate their powers. The Grand Knyaz's own, living oaken arm, was proof of the power of the Cult of the Woods. Using the monumental shrines as offering points, every cult made a sacrifice of live animals to demonstrate their powers.
Famous hunter of beasts and men, Ursir Varg, demonstrated the powers of the Beast Cult - his enchanted senses and reflexes and claims of extended lifeforce - in return for ample sacrifice, the Beast Cult claims to be able to provide such extensions;
The Water Cult demonstrated the ability to bring a freshly drowned man back to life on one hand and a combat-enchanting ability on the other, one requiring an advanced ritual, which allowed the leader of the cult, Milan Slivka, to gain unnatural abilities in both evasion and accuracy when fighting.
The Earth Cult only sent a single man, dressed as a normal city-dweller, who would spend two days and nights working on a sculpture dedicated to the current Grand Knyaz, without taking a break for water, food or sleep.
Among the Sun Cult adherents there were a group of warriors who displayed supernatural coordination in their movements and fighting and one clairvoyant seer - one who'd lost their physical eyesight, yet proved to be able to peer into the past of a person he focuses on and to anticipate any actions that would occur in a future time period - the shorter that time period, the more accurate his predictions.
Naturally, all of this is only part of what the various mystics claimed to be able to do. For the Cults, another major aspect was their claim to be able to commune with mighty spirits. Some point to the destruction of our army and fleet in Uzhna as an example of the might of spirits.
Outside of the cults, a woman from the swampy center of the nation displayed the remarkable properties of her various concoctions. She showed many things - trinkets, charms, magical dances and whatnot, of dubious effect, yet some of the mixtures she could make showed real effect in being able to bring vitality, energy, cheeriness and relieve pain for users.

The Theophantic Priesthood was also given a chance to talk about its own take on such matters. The missionaries say that their believes are ultimately in the virtues of truth, justice, purity, dedication and charity.
"The spirits of these pagan cults can indeed manifest certain powers, but before the Lord of Lords' hand, they are nothing. His judgement is absolute, unquestionable and unavoidable. The truest, most dedicated adherents of the Lord's will can manifest it into purifying flames that expose the lies and deceit of the Great Enemy's creations, these pagan spirits. There is power in earnest prayer as well, that which can be performed by all who hold faith in their hearts, regardless of having a position in the Lord's Church."
The priests chose to display their ability to perform an excorcism - a rite that allows priests to drive out a spirit that has taken some hold over a human. A convert boyar claimed that the woodland spirits of his domain had infested the mind of his daughter, who was indeed one of strange behavior, sometimes speaking strange words in an unknown tongue, trying to make cuts to spill her own blood "To give back" and other unusual behavior. According to some of the pagan priests present, this was indeed a blessing of spiritual powers that should not be disturbed. Others seemed more skeptical of that. The Theophantic priests converged around the posessed woman and performed prayers and displayed a silver icon of the Lord's sword of justice, a weighted scale whose central section forms a blade in its lower part. Calling upon the name and authority of their God, they would order the spirit to remove itself. The woman began shrieking and shaking in pain, visibly sweating, eventually fainting - nuns of the Order of St.Vivienne rushed to tend to her immediately and confirmed she was alive, breathing and recovering. When she woke a few minutes later, her previous abberant behavior was gone - her spirit purged by holy fire, the abbess said. She finishes her demonstration with words addressed to all:
"The Lord's power will defeat any demonic spirit sooner or later - to consort with them is folly and to feed them is a deadly sin. The same goes for all forms of witchcraft and magicks, for to put your faith in any way but the Lord's is heresy and a betrayal towards Him. Some may be tempted by the worldly pleasures offered, the boons of leeched lifeforce or cures to ailments - but these are temporary, material gains for which you would sacrifice your eternal soul in return. Our realm got a lot of wilderness, thus a lot of wildlife, thus a lot of animals with nice furs we can export to the southerners that lack such things.
Let’s have our ruler both invest a lot in this business as well as introducing a toll on such goods. It’s surely bound to fill our coffers.

Up until now, the laws of this land have only been enforced by local nobility and their soldiers who at times are times too harsh or even corrupt. I propose we create a new group of peacekeepers whose first loyalty belongs to Dvorshka. These "Oathkeepers" would at first only seek to enforce the laws of the realm within the capital itself but would eventually be expanded to cover all urban and rural areas with further funding. By focusing only on civil protection, these Oathkeepers would prove much more adept at dealing with simple crimes while freeing up soldiers from garrison duties for future wars. Their presence would also serve to bolster the local economy as crime goes down and productivity naturally goes up with it. The vast majority of their number would be drawn from former soldiers either too injured, too scared, or too old to return to the battlefield but they would soon be whipped into shape by the best trainers each pagan militant order had to offer. Finally, they would swear an oath upon both the old gods and new to always remain loyal to Dvorshka first and to enforce her laws impartially and without any bias. Staminir hoped this would bring a new era of peace and lawfulness upon his realm.

Apparently Oathkeepers used to be a thing in a previous game? I don't know how similar they are to this concept but feel free to change the name if it is too problematic.

What does a former soldier know of impartiality? Of justice without bias? Pah. When he encounters the custom and power of the decentralized feudal lords, and real soldiers who are vested in maintaining cushy positions, he will lose. Or worse, he will invite chaos and antagonism. What power does the Oathkeeper have to check and challenge a corrupt Lord and his men? None, but the violence and wit he can muster against them.

Merchant ships that journeyed beyond Olfa soon reached coastlines now dominated by the mountaineers of Shlin, with a single notable trading port, Vatun. The Shlin were once disorganized tribes and local warlords but are now supposedly all united in one nation that rules all the lands as far east as the fabled Eldas and the land of Odea, ruled by Theophantic conquerors - and desert lands beyond. Some amount of trade with those distant peoples flows to Shlin and from there to Vatu - spices, paper, dyes and cotton.
Sailing further south leads to very warm coasts, an arid region populated by tan-skinned folk that trade with the deserts beyond them, even further south, where our ships dared not sail. Dried fruit, slaves and gold could be found in the trading city of Dabar, beyond whose domain begins the Al-Hasham. Yet outside Dabar itself, that region can definately be considered a poor one, for trade had few places to flow to until now - the merchants of those harbor cities look with hope towards our ships now as the sailors wave back on their departure.

In domestic news, an attack on the Theophantic mission in Knezdvor was conducted by Ursir Varg and over a dozen of his volh. Varg and several accomplices died during the attack, which was done during a mass and killed nearly twenty laymen and priests, but the remaining volh were driven off. The Lawbringers were sent out and arrested the remaining volh involed and charged them with assaulting and attempting to kill Dvoreshkans, the penalty given was to pay hefty fines towards the mission. There are claims by some that this attack was provoked by the missionaries, but they are firmly denied by all who were in the mission at the time.

Year 1140 - we'll leave FPs for later, when we finish for tonight.

>E.Government & laws

It has become clear to Stanimir that the pagan majority within his realm does not wish for a Theophantic king to rule them once more nor would he trust them to. My predecessor allowed foreigners to construct castles upon his homeland, missionaries to turn the culture of his people, and their holy men to murder innocent spirits. I cannot in good conscious allow this to happen once again when I pass. It's my hope that by passing this new law that tensions between our two faiths will once again dissipate and we can enter into a new era of peace and prosperity for all of our peoples.

So, I propose a new law allowing only those who follow a pagan faith of any sort to ascend to the title of Grand Knyaz. Those who follow foreign religions of any kind will be prohibited from running for or becoming Grand Knyaz up until their religion has become the majority. No longer will a minority wield vast power over the majority!

I feel it is. The Theophantic faith has tried time and time again to undermine the cults themselves. They even hold our spirits to be demons deserving of only fire rather than prayer! I hold no anger for the followers but rather the priesthood themselves that turn them against our people. Yet I am not blind to the will of my people.

If our nation turns to their faith, I have included a specific provision to allow them to rule justly as they should. I believe that is more just than allowing the few to trample over the rights of the many. I will stand aside in the case I am wrong if my body does not force me aside earlier.

A technology that spread to Olka from the east, the water mill is now known to us - through the use of a steady stream of water pushing a wheel, proprely connected mechanism can be activated and be used for various purposes, be they grinding, cutting, crushing. The stream of water has to be a manageable one, small brooks and rivers rather than massive ones like the Alga, Grozhda or Uzhna. With access to this technology, production of various staple goods of Dvoreshka will be able to expand as watermills spread.
In 1141 the Grand late Knyaz, nearing his last days, left Knezdvor and journeyed into the Svetales forest - the next year's Duma gathering would have him absent and thus pronounced dead, leading to the beginning of a new election.

The expansion of both the nation and the Knyazdom was on the mind of Blago, he had grown accustomed to the thrill of battle with the time he spent sitting in his castle being nothing but a waste. To the south of his domain stood murky woods full of savages of all sorts holding loyalty to no nation. He knew the Kingdom of Olka as had their eyes on such lands that would be a natural extension to their domain, they may be an ally but he was still no man to allow them to gain without also gaining something.

He would gather his sworn men alongside those of his allies the Samograds and Plavisnks, all veterans of the last war, an important factor being the castle of Dvorebrama allowing the army a place to raid from and retreat stopping any retaliation. Their assault would begin in the summer with raiding parties lighting fire to the dry forest tinder creating massive wildfires that would devastating the livelihood and home of the savages. In the fall the true raids would start, with war parties sacking villages of all types and herding them inwards towards the heart of the forest. In the dead of winter, when the entire forest slept the final blow would be struck with their final holdouts being sacked and put to the torch.

Faction Project: Construct palisade, roads, and a proper market in Celllom. Use royal patronage to draw new population, industry, and trade to Celllom.

The Vyati have long focused on little else but martial pursuits with their soldiers being among the best in the land but their coastal town itself, Celllom, has suffered over the years due to the lack of true stewardship. The Grand Knyaz has decided to change this with the opportunities afforded to him due to his recent upward swing in status. The first priority is constructing a palisade around the town, gravel roads with wooden walkways connecting all major buildings, and a large market in the center of town to draw in commerce. All of this would go a long way to revitalizing Celllom but Stanimir wasn't done yet. Using his new-found power over taxes, Stanimir would offer significant incentives to craftsmen, merchants, and even laborers in the crowded capital. In exchange for moving their businesses and families over to Vyat, their taxes for several years would be significantly lessened or even removed altogether in some cases. He hoped this would bring about a boom in the local economy and population that would cement the Vyati as a force to be reckoned with among the North. Staminir would pay careful attention to make sure he let no snakes into the midst of his people even as his disposition against the Theophantic faith soured later in life. He would make one last trip to see fruits of his labor before he passed the Boyarship on to Ranko and made one last journey into Svetales.

With this the village is vastly more defendable and with the overwatch provided by the watch towers provides a place for people to escape to in times of need! The Forest Cult
Devout worshipers of the trees, the forest cult are fanatically devoted to the protection and worship of the eldest trees in the forest. Spread thinly across the main forest that they reside in, many members of the forest cult are primitive hunters who maintain the land around them as shepherds as well as living off of it.

Faction Project: With the increasing persecution of the forest cult and Mindaugus being on his death bed, the old leader of the cult asks his good friend Stelmužė, the eldest tree, for one final request. In the cusp of the tree's branches, near the top of the ancient wood, a bowl forms naturally out of the tree's branches. Within the bowl, sap naturally pools out and forms a sticky pool. This natural fountain, hereby called "The Ancient's Blood", shall serve as a proof of ritual now for all high ranking members of the Durvid. The sap shall be mixed alongside the blood of those who have been caught and felled by loyal pagan worshipers in the act of defacing the woods and this mixture of the tree's lifeblood and the blood of the forest's enemies shall be a baptizing spring for the closest and chosen protectors of the tree.

Your warriors cross the mountains in north and south. Olka's armies spend the years when not fighting in Olfa in these regions, trying to advance across harsh forests and rough hills carefully, the locals focused on fighting them off. When Knyaz Brutislav's torching strategy was employed in a particularly dry summer, the wildfires spread far and wide in this region where the mountains stop much of the rains. Much of the inner forest as a result could be said to be quite old, having taken far longer to develop - and it is in the innermost areas that the trees themselves seemed to resist the flames somewhat, by some unnatural means, though the inferno no doubt weakened the force of those spirits. Around the most sacred inner grove, the fighting was fiercest and ended with the slaughter of the local durvid and the grove's trees being burned or chopped down, the materials then being split around the participants to be turned into various trinkets and furniture. The population of the region is practically wiped out, the few villages that surrendered being an easy target for future overtaking with potential waves of settlers. In the south, where it is mostly the Samograd and Plavinsk warriors that fight, resistance lasts longer, but is also weaker overall, the spirit of the natives eventually giving up once the news of the forest destruction reaches them. The border of Dvoreshka expands notably, while Olka's more troubled campaigning in the area only provided them with marginal gains.

Over the past decade, many families have gifted the Vodniki goods to give to the water spirits. Using these sacrifices, they spend more time communing with the spirits, speaking with them and making a new ritual involving both male and female caretakers whom perform an intricate dance on the cliff in Volnutes while in a circle of silver as other priests chant and offer up more sacrifice. Milan, head priest of the order, comments that he can feel the tides begin to shift and that if they do nothing, they will surely drown in the change to come. Milan witnessed a girl, whom some traitors who called possessed, who was blessed with a spirit. Milan wonders if it is an uncommon thing or if the water spirits would be willing to bless his own people with such divine gifts.

Cool tattoos for everyone
While originally a tradition practiced only in a few communities, the increasingly urgent desire to reaffirm traditional religious loyalty in face of theopantic missionary activity have lead to this becoming increasingly common in our society.
These tattoos, religious in origin, carries deeper meaning than being mere decoration. One symbolizes adulthood, another having fathered children, another what cult you’re devoted to, another protects you from sickness and another narrates your prowess as a warrior. Aged men will often be covered from foot to finger in these patterns and be able to read each other’s life stories merely from looking at each other. This tradition grants those of other people a bond that any foreign preacher will struggle to overcome.
Naturally, only our priests know the secrets behind how to apply them, the deeper meanings and the order they must be placed in. Some even whisper that they weave in secret patterns known only to them, making it easy for them to spot an imitation of somebody for some reason should seek to infiltrate us.

The Grand Knyaz will be increasing resources dedicated to ship construction, expecting regular new additions every year. In the past, Ursir easily sailed down the Alga with over fourty of their own ships - our goal should be to match that. For this purpose, the shipbuilders of Yaruszin and Vingradets will be employed towards making ships for the Grand Knyaz - if their respective factions do not build any ships of their own this decade, they will receive +5 to their faction project, remind me of it when it's time for em.

Fur production is mostly in northern Dvoreshkan and even moreso in Ursir - these furs would be sought after in the south and Olka alike - for trade with southern ports, fur will flow to Knezdvor and Yantar as the joint trade hub for all of the Alga - which will bring profits to the Grand Knyaz and thus, the realm. Therefore, trappers will be supported in their work and directed to the appropriate marketplaces that will ensure the furtrade gets off the ground.
In Ursir the new Konungr is Boreg, grandson of Hrork. Pretenders for the throne are said to have been defeated in the short power struggle, integrated in the rulership or exiled east, where they may carve their own kingdom out.

Ships with representatives of the Duma and various adventurers and explorers sailed off from Knezdvor, headed up the Alga, past Sekorek and into Ursir.
The Skalinka river is the last major tributary that flows into the Alga - most of the lesser rivers that form its mighty basin are further to the northeast, in the heart of Ursir itself. There's the Alga's own source, which is far into the northeast and then there are two main tributaries that join it as it flows towards its estuary. The capital of Ursir is a city bearing the name Hrorskgard and is located by the fork where the second main tributary joins the Volga, making it a major river port. Hrorksgard is a large city indeed, capable of rivalling Knezdvor and Vingradets for sure, if not surpassing them slightly in its size. Going further up the Alga, one eventually reaches the colder forests from where the Kalbronans first came out of into these lands and began their conquest - the main river port in the uppermost Alga is Beorgar, once the primary staging point of the Kalbrnfran invaders who invaded the lands of the Dumin. Past Beorgan the river is not quite as suitable for sailing, eventually our explorers stop and continue on foot into the mountains, where they finally reach what they believe is the source itself - the melting of snow and ice that builds up over the colder half of the year in these heights provides the plentiful waters of this great river. North by land from Beorgan, through a mountain pass, one is said to reach the shores of the northern seas, where certain places areas, carved into the coastline, provide safe haven for ships to dock - in the warm months of the year, these ships sail north and then east, to the ancestral lands of Kalbröna. The region from Hrorksgard to Beorgan and up north towards the coast is where the most foreign settlers can be found, though the further south one goes, the more one can see the beginning of intermixture among some Kalbrönans and local Dumin - the Dumin of these lands have been the native population along almost all of the Alga since before these foreigners came, though in what is now the heartland of Ursir they were not as populous as they are further south.

The Grand Knyaz seemed interested enough in these tales to commision some maps of the lands controlled by Ursir to be made in the near future.

Fuck up the swampguys.
And by that I mean we send envoys bearing nice gifts and honeyed words. If they refuse to bend the knee we’ll then send ten thousand men to murder them all for their rudeness.

The Moorfolk have received our gifts and are willing to join Dvoreshka on the condition that they be granted the exclusive domain over the entire territory they currently occupy and the small buffer zone between us and them, with a bit more to the peripheries, as their own. In the Duma, they will be represented by the chief priests of Lokom, who have their areas of influence.Their faith's place will be respected in all of Dvoreshka.

Perhaps as a surprise to some, the moormen were joined into Dvoreshka peacefully.

We saw a few examples of ranged siege equipment being used by Olka during the siege of Olfa - they didn't have enough to confidently use them for destroying the walls with ease, but were nevertheless testing their own siege engineers' capabilities in that war. Based on what we learned then and knowledge that has trickled across the years, plus some specialists our envoys hired over a few years ago, the Grand Knyaz's court now has a number of siege engineers capable of constructing ballistae and catapults.
