Party time is over, and there is no turning back. The case has come to a fairly mundane conclusion with Henry calling in angelic support. The baron has been dealt with, violently, and it looks like Vermilion is going to have a lot to deal with in the coming months. Henry, being a smart lad, is already planning on getting out of dodge. Avignon is nice this time of year anyways...

Quest rules:
1. All dice rolled are assumed to be D100 unless otherwise stated
2. The first two rolls will be given far greater importance, but additional rolls, good or bad, will affect the outcome. This choice ultimately falls to the Lorekeeper, odd circumstances may cause him to change how the story progresses (a ton of crits for instance)
3. All dice rolls are final
4. Critical fails are considered to be between 1-5, Critical hits are between 95-100. Crits overpower any other roll except another crit. In the rare chance that a crit fail and crit success happen. The Lorekeeper will do something interesting from a story angle. Similarly, rolling 2 of the same number will be considered a MEGA crit, just pray its two high numbers.
5. Near misses may occur, where a rolled number is close to the required threshold, whether over or under. This can have an impact on how the story proceeds. However these are up to the decision of the Lorekeeper.
6. Sometimes there are optional choices one may participate in, these will generally NOT be taken unless there are multiple posters who wish it, assuming there are multiple posters in the thread
7. There are often times choices with multiple parts, each part is counted separately, unless otherwise stated, sometimes rolls will be required before counting the second, third, etc, part
8. There will be “Time Limited” decisions, in which characters may only do a set number of actions, these will be clearly marked. Generally you will only be able to choose one decision per ‘round’.
9. Rules may be subject to change between threads, but will not change during the same thread. These rules are what we will follow for the remainder of this thread.

==============(Mana Amounts)=================

RED (CURRENTLY 5)

BLACK (CURRENTLY 5)

BLUE (CURRENTLY 3)

This is a per day basis, these will reset after a long enough period of rest

>(You have 3 upgrade points, so 3 additional points of mana to allocate any way you see fit)

========================================================

====================(Spells)================================

Silence: Will completely stop you or a targeted person or object from making any noise at all, from any action. You can cancel the spell at any point of time. (Costs 1 bar of blue mana)(can be snapcasted for 1.5 bars of blue mana)

Undead Rush: Will cause any undead DIRECTLY under your control to break out in a run, allowing them to quickly close distance and overwhelm opponents. They will also be able to leap onto opponents as well. Effect lasts several minutes. (Costs 1 bar of black mana to cast)(can be snapcasted for 1.5 bars of black mana)
Necromantic Heart: Will allow you and up to one other person who maintains direct contact with you to avoid detection by any wandering undead (meaning not directly controlled). Will also make you appear dead to any who use scrying or magical means to try and detect you. (costs 1 bar of black mana to cast)(can be snapcasted for 1.5 bars of black mana)

Minor Scry (May be changed a bit if it makes it more fun to use): Will let you scope out a room or a small area of space and will allow you to detect both living and magical beings. Those who are using cloaking magics will of course be out of your sight, and you will not be able to control exactly where the spell will end up (costs 1 bar of blue mana to cast)(can be snapcasted for 2 bars of blue mana)

Dark Healing: Steal the very Vis from someone and use it to heal yourself, this can outright kill those who are already injured, but can be resisted by those with enough willpower or physical strength. Vis is the energy that binds a soul to a body. Removing all of it will cause the soul to float freely, leaving the body a dead shell. Cannot be used to heal another person or creature, because sharing isn’t fun. (Costs 2 Black mana to cast)(is always snapcast)
Cancel: Will prevent a mage from being able to cast spells unless that mage can manage to overpower it. Basically you cut them off from the mana bank for a minute or two. Differs from dispel in the fact that it works BEFORE a spell gets cast. (Costs 1.5 bars of blue mana to cast)(is always snapcast)

Mind Rot: Can temporarily (or permanently if powerful enough) cause an opponent to lose their concentration for a period of time and be left slightly insane. Effects can vary WIDELY, ALSO CAN CAUSE PERMANENT MENTAL DAMAGE TO THE TARGET, USE WITH CAUTION. (Costs 1 bar of black mana, 1 bar of blue mana, and one bar of any mana to cast)(is always snapcast)

>continued below
>>
>>3311523
>>3311523 (You)
Internal Combustion: Destruction of a different sort. Dislike buildings? Weapon or armor getting in the way of a killing blow? Gargoyle getting you down? Not anymore! With this little spell any unliving material can be blasted from the inside, assuming you can get close enough to give it a little love tap. The effect can be instant or delayed, allowing you to set traps in certain areas! (Costs 1 red mana to cast)(costs 1.5 red mana to snapcast)(EFFECTS MAY VARY)

Swerve: Pesky spells aimed at you constantly? With this little spell, you can grab those spells out of the air and make choose a new target for them for each spell affected! (Costs 1 red mana, mana)(always snapcast)

Haste: Need to get somewhere in a flash? Need to escape from something terrifying? Skipped leg day? No worries, with haste you can quickly traverse a distance, escape from traps or pursuers, or leap great distances with ease and with, dare I say it, “HASTE”. (will require Larry’s help)

Quicken: Don’t have enough time to cast a spell? Want to cast more? Well here is a fun little spell for you. Allows you to cast 1 additional spell this turn, and 2 spells the next turn. (Costs 2 blue mana, 1 red mana to cast)

Dark touch: will kill an opponent dead, assuming the spell connects and the opponent is alive, unlike a bolt spell does not damage the body (uses 1.5 black mana, can be snapcast for 3 black mana)

Undead Vision: Lets you move your sight into one of the undead you control. You need to have a general idea of their location, and the undead needs to be under your control for this to work (costs 1 black mana per cast, can be snapcast for 2 black mana)

Blight: An old favorite. Creates an area of blight in which opponents will have to fight off your will, can take out a swath of opponents if used correctly (uses 1 black mana + X black mana. The higher the ‘x’ amount of mana is, the greater the area of effect and the overall killing power is)

> 2 spells will be chosen

> Pick the top 3 spells you want Henry to learn, the #1 choice gets 3 votes, the #2 gets 2 votes, and the #3 gets 1 vote. Votes are tallied and the spells with the most points are selected, while ties will cause a runoff vote. This vote will remain open for about a week or so to allow as many people as possible to vote, although if there is a decisive victory I will end the voting period.

>Finally, I'm awarding something I'm going to call a 'creation point', this is a special thing that can be used to either create a new spell (which I will stat personally) or to upgrade an existing spell (which I will have to consider before accepting to ensure it doesn't break things gamewise)
>>

Spell vote totals
Necromantic heart > 6 points
Internal combustion > 4 points
Blight > 2 points

Black, black, red (2 votes)

>at the end of this week I'll tally up votes and finalize the spell selection, I encourage everyone to vote as there aren't upgrades that often

“We had no idea what had happened, but the creature struggled in midair, as if being held by an unseen hand. We thought that god had saved us at first, and my companions fell to the ground in silent prayer, one of them even crying at the realization we were going to live, if only a bit longer. That’s when I saw the thing. It was a massive spider, bigger than a church. I watched as it climbed out onto the ridge and simply plucked the drake right out of the air. Out of its web, and then it pulled itd down into the canyon below. Well, we all abandoned what little we had left, more than content that our lives were saved. We made it to the next town and dealt with the aftermath of losing so much cargo, and so many lives. Still, I’m never going to forget what I felt when I saw the hunter become the hunted.

~ Rinko, owner of the Malter Trading Company, Company Crest – The Drake Eater Spider

==================================(Chapter Start)======================================

The ride was bumpy and uncomfortable to say the least. They were getting close to Celeste now, yet the roads never seemed to be any less bumpy. Henry and Ophelia had ‘partied’ at the Chateau until the gate had been fixed by Nelson, then they’d simply left before sunup and gotten to their carriage. Dimitri had the sense to not ask what had happened to their cloaked companion. The boy was a good driver, and he knew when to not ask stupid fucking questions which was a massive plus. Henry wondered if he worked for Vermillion or for someone else, perhaps he’d reach out to the kid some time or another if he needed to get somewhere. Good help was hard to find.

Ophelia had tried nodding off but due to the jostling had been utterly incapable of it. The woman had then tried to write only to run into similar issues. Bumpy roads didn’t really allow for much other than polite conversation, and well, neither Henry or Ophelia had anything polite to say to each other, so they decided to not say anything. The woman glanced at Henry for a moment, bags under her eyes, then yawned loudly. Henry struggled to not yawn in response.

They’d encountered some angelic patrols overhead, and a few Militiamen racing off to some hamlet or village, but beyond that there hadn’t been much on the road until the sun was a decent way up. Now they couldn’t go twenty yards without seeing another traveler walk past.

Henry wasn’t’ really able to enjoy the scenery, the full weight of what he’d done was beginning to sink in, and the fear of getting caught was beginning to claw at his mind. Sure Johnny would make sure his home was safe, and sure, the vampires couldn’t get into his home without his express permission, but there were a lot of people who’d kill him to get a crack at immortality, or even a whiff at it.

Henry continued to scan the countryside for trouble. He knew there wouldn’t be any, not when they were a stone’s throw from the capital. Even if he knew he still was worried sick. Maybe talking to Ophelia would calm his nerves; the woman looked as agitated as he was.

“So the plan is to get to Avignon.” Henry said.

“WHAT?” Ophelia said, snapping to attention. “Why would we go there? Why would I go back there?!”

“Because we just sided with someone who wants my old boss dead, we can’t be in the city until things get resolved one way or the other.” Henry said. “Unless you want to have another run in with an angry vampire.”

Ophelia shivered as she remembered her fun time in Grutzberg.

“Fine… but what about the cult of progress, why Avignon?!’

“I know they’re in Avignon but I can keep you safe from them, I promise.” Henry said. “And besides I’m very familiar with the city and some people in it, I can probably get us a safehouse or something on the outskirts, maybe an abandoned factory for us to start research on our project. Not to mention the local family isn’t Roma.”

“Our project?! You mean my project!” Ophelia said. “Let’s keep that clear.”

“I’m going to be helping you Ophelia, you can’t do this by yourself.”

“Yes I can, now that I know what I need to do.”

“So you’re okay with another creation of yours having a tantrum?” Henry asked.

“N-no that won’t…” Ophelia said, having a moment of doubt.

Decisions:
1. “Look I want this thing to succeed to, if it does we’ll be rich, you’ll be able to get as much manpower and as many materials as you want.”

“Sides, I’ve just cut off ties with my past at that Chateau, so I don’t really have any other options.” Henry said, smiling. “We’re in the same boat Ophelia, lets just trust each other, get this thing done, and then we can talk from there, alright?”

“Okay… and I’ve come to a decision on you Henry.” Ophelia said.

“What’s that?”

“You’re smarter than most of the other idiots.”

“Thanks.” Henry said.

All the spell votes seem good to me.

Personally, for the creation point, I would really like some Fleshmelding.

Like the Tzimisce ability, to be able to mold flesh into different shapes.

That way we could say maybe start by being able to repair our undead a bit. Swap new bones into skeletons, "repair" the flesh of zombies so that they don't immediately look like the undead, should help with getting away with using our necromancy.

Later on maybe we could use it augment undead creatures, or stick bits of corpses together and work together.

Maybe we could even use it as a sort of healing spell. Traditionally, healing HAS been a necromancy spell.
>>
>>3312592
Why not save it for later to amplify a crucial spell or change a core function somehow? I look forward to the day we can get Dark Touch and synergize it with Internal Combustion and become pic related

The carriage worked its way through the remaining bits of countryside until they arrived at a gate into Celeste’s third ring. Dimitri pulled out an official looking seal from his jacket pocket and showed it to the Cathar guards on duty. They let him through without so much as asking for a toll, generally carriages and other large craft were taxed upon entry into celeste, but the rider’s guild were given the privilege of not having to pay entry taxes by the church, assuming they weren’t trading anything specific. Henry didn’t know the exact rules but from Duncan he knew that fish and produce were included in the disallowed items. The rules were just there so that mail carriers didn’t have to pay fees.

After getting inside, Dimitri told them that he was letting them off, and without so much as a goodbye he was off to whatever guild hall he hailed from. Henry didn’t bother asking him any questions; he had something far more important to get to, Rosa and Charles

After cutting through the city’s third ring, and exiting back out into the forth, he made his way down towards Rosa’s church, the chapel of the commons. He wondered if Father abbot or that deacon were there today. Perhaps, perhaps not.

The gates loomed in front of him. What was he going to do?

Decisions:
1. Brush yourself off and head inside, you don’t really need a plan.
2. Tell Ophelia to wait outside, even though she’s half asleep and this isn’t a good part of town you don’t think she’ll come to any harm this time of day… probably

Henry brushed himself off, took off his cloak, and headed on inside. Ophelia had long ago taken her own mask and cape off, and even with the odd feathery clothing they had, they hadn’t stood out all that much in the town. Though perhaps it would’ve been wiser to have headed home for a change of clothes… no this was far more important…

“Ophelia, here, can you hold these for a moment?” Henry asked.

“What why?! Can’t you hold your own things yourself? Or are you just that lazy?” Ophelia said, moving her hands about in an angry display of… well.. anger.

“Look, just do this for me, and try to stay out of the way, I don’t believe Rosa ever got a look at you during our misadventures in Grutzberg but I don’t want you saying something dumb and blowing your cover, I won’t be able to explain it away.

“Oh, then why the heck are we here?”

“Because I dropped Charles off here.” Henry said. “For saftey’s sake. I trust the woman enough for that.”

“But why would you… oh, right, church.” Ophelia said. “Kinda funny how much those people have begun to terrify me after all that’s happened. I’ve been so used to thinking of them as the one type of people you could trust, they generally act the same no matter what, so long as they don’t know who you are.”

“Uh huh…”

Inside the holy grounds Henry found Rosa and Charles having a picnic of sorts. Charles was busy concentrating while Rosa was enjoying some sort of meat pie. Neither of them noticed as two oddly dressed people entered into the place. One of those oddly dressed people stood off in a corner, awkwardly trying to not be seen. While the other one approached them.

Henry stopped short of the two unaware picnickers, and came up with a devilish idea. He did a one-eighty, returned to Ophelia, and grabbed his mask from her.

“Really?” She asked, but Henry had already wandered back over towards Rosa.

He snuck up behind her easily enough, and then crouched down. He quickly grabbed her from behind and gave her a hug. Placing his head on her right shoulder.

She let out a shriek and cast a fairly powerful ward spell. Fortunately Henry wasn’t an evil creature, merely an asshole, so the spell had no effect on him. Charles grabbed his ears to protect them from the noise and then fumbled for his knife for a couple seconds before realizing who was holding Rosa.

“Miss me?” Henry asked

“H-henry!” Rosa said, coughing on her food.

Charles frantically searched a nearby basket and handed Rosa a white canteen, which she greedily drank from.

“God above do not scare me like that, you…” Rosa said, realizing how close Henry was.

“H-h-henry…” Rosa said. “N-not in public like this p-please.”

“You’re no fun.” Henry said, laughing at how embarrassed he was making the woman.

“So what do you think of my costume? Pretty nice ey?” Henry said, stepping back and showing off his expertly crafted owl getup.

“Its… well… it’s kind of extravagant isn’t it?” Rosa asked.

“Woah…” Charles said. “You look amazing!”

“So how are you guys doing? Went to a costume party and almost died twice, but you probably expeted that by now.”

“Well we’re doing excellent, I believe Charles has begun to figure out how to tap into his mana and… WHAT?”

“What?” Henry asked.

“Please tell me you are joking!” Rosa said. “You went to a party and almost died?! Twice?! How is that… HOW?!”

Decisions:

“Aw you do care.” Henry said, grinning widely.

Rosa sighed and pouted. “Less than a day and you nearly go off and get yourself killed, you are hopeless.”

“I think he was joking Rosa.” Charles said, trying to be helpful.

“No he wasn’t.” Rosa said.

“Well it has only been a day. Only nearly dying once is pretty good I’d say.”

“I… I have nothing to say to that.” Rosa said, rubbing her temples. “Well you’re okay, that’s what matters…”

“Well enough beating around the bush, I’m going to have to leave town for a couple months. Charles is coming with me, don’t worry.”

“What?” Rosa said. The woman’s hands were shaking slightly. “You just… we just… then you leave? For a few months?”

“Look, Rosa, I assisted a raid on a vampire during the party.”

“What?!”

“The host, the baron, was a vampire, there were inquisitors there, things went bad, angels got called in and I made it through, but I think one of his servants might’ve gotten a good look at my face before it ended. I also think there might be people in the city who’ll have it out for me.”

Rosa nearly fainted upon hearing the news. Charles was near panicking as well.

“Look its not the first time I’ve pissed people off like this, I’ll be fine.”

“I... did the inquisitors need your help, you could’ve left it to them couldn’t you?” Rosa said.

“One of them was Cassius, Rosa, I couldn’t just leave them to their own devices, I had to help em.” Henry explained. It wasn’t entirely a lie either.
>>
>>3316664
Rosa slowly placed her head into her hands, and shook a little bit. Was she crying? Oh damn it.

“You’re just going to leave then?” Rosa asked.

“Do you really want to come with me? Its going to be dangerous.” Henry said. “I don’t want you to get hurt or…”

“Of COURSE I want to come with you Henry!” Rosa said, throwing her hands down. She had a determined expression on her face and fire in her eyes. This was the exact thing that had made Henry interested in her in the first place. Same reason he’d fallen in love with Sophie too, back before the … accident.

“Why… do you think I’d just stay behind in safety while you go out and get hurt… like a… oh I don’t know. If you ended up in some ditch or mauled to death by a horrible creature, and I couldn’t be there to help you I wouldn’t be able to live with myself, alright?” Rosa said.

The woman was crying, fucking hell.

“Alright, you can come with us Rosa, will it be a problem, you seem to be set up well here…”

“I don’t stay long here Henry, I’m not a member of the church’s staff, and they couldn’t afford to pay me an actual salary if they wanted to.” Rosa said. “I know Deacon Gregor has always wanted to pay me for my help here but Abbot’s made it clear he can’t, at least not a salary that’d be proper for a healer.” Rosa said. “I wouldn’t mind it of course, but certain people don’t get as offended when a healer works for charity than for a pittance. On work that isn’t becoming of one.”

“Well I’m going to be leaving short notice…” Henry said. “Probably by the end of the day, or tomorrow if I can. I know of a place in Avignon I can bunk up for a while. While I try to secure an apartment or something, hopefully without drawing attention to myself.”

“I’m a monk Henry, travel is part of my job.” Rosa said, “At least that’ll be fine.”

The woman’s face became as red as a tomato as she decided whether to pull away or cling to Henry.

“W-what if people see us, this is a church Henry…” Rosa said. “And I still have my healer robes and …”

“Just enjoy the moment.” Henry said.

Rosa let out a little yelp but hugged Henry back. Henry smiled, this made all the stupid fucking bullshit of the prior night worth it. He could feel the woman breathing rapidly, almost like she was hyperventilating. She’d probably never felt this kind of affection before. In that way she was unluckier than he was, wasn’t she.

“Charles, you can tell me what you’ve learned on our trip back home, I’m going to need your help packing what we can get.”

“Rosa, we’re gonna try to leave by tonight, can you be ready by then?” Henry asked.

“So soon?” Rosa asked, placing a hand on her mouth.

“Yes well, the longer I wait around the more danger I’ll be in. I need to leave as soon as possible. I think we could risk a nighttime voyage, I know someone who owes me a favor.”

Henry sighed, he knew that Duncan wouldn’t carry them if he knew what he’d gotten himself into. The man cared too much about his wife, and Henry liked the man enough to not lie. However, there was one other person he knew that would be willing to do it and absolutely hated vampires.

Duncan’s daughter Malory. She had a boat and she’d be willing to smuggle him out, probably. He hoped she’d be willing to honor the favor she owed him.

“Rosa, can you be ready by then?” Henry sternly asked.

“Y-yes, yes I can be ready by then. Its… well it’s going to be difficult to explain to Father Abbot…”

“You could say god told you to.” Charles said, trying to be helpful.

Henry stifled a laugh.

“I did have one other thing I wanted your help with…” Henry said, sitting down and rolling up the leg of his pants.

“Oh my lord what did you do!?” Rosa asked, looking at the hole left by the piece of iron shrapnel from the Chateau’s basement.

The thing still stung like an utter bitch.

“Well… I got attacked by a spider and…”

“Was it poisonous?!” Rosa said, clearly concerned. “No wait you’d be dead by now… look let me just heal you…. You stupid …”

The woman bit her lip and looked at Henry’s leg, unable to keep eye contact with the stupid idiot who kept making her worried.

“It’s not even that bad.” Henry said.

“Please just shut up and let me work.” Rosa replied. “Okay!?”

“Fine.” Henry said. “Thanks.”

“Your welcome…”

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

“So why did she get so angry?” Charles asked, skipping along behind Henry with a hand on his new dagger. The kid now had two sheaths around his waist, and Henry had to say they suited him. The kid looked really regal with weapons.

“I don’t even feckin know.” Henry said, trying to downplay it. He knew EXACTLY why she’d gotten mad.

“Because your master is a feckin idiot.” Ophelia explained. “I don’t even know what happened but we both know that wound wasn’t caused by a spider. Why the hell did you even lie to her if you like her so much?”

“Shut up.” Henry said. “I’m trying to write here.”

He continued his work on a hastily written letter, cobbled together on a small piece of parchment.

‘To Mr. Red,
Eyes on my back, can’t stay here, not my fault.”
With regards,
Mr. Tombstone’

That’d probably be fine… it was better than nothing after all…

The trio arrived home to find Johnny in the middle of packing all sorts of runes, papers, and materials. The skeleton had started with the more valuable stuff and had worked his way downwards, saving the stuff that could be left behind for last.

“Were you followed?” Johnny asked.

“Of course not.” Henry said. “I don’t know if our arrival was noticed though. I’m going to be getting in contact with Malory, I don’t know anyone else who’d be willing to leave on such short notice like this.”

“Finally calling in that favor then?” Johnny asked. “Told you the gold piece was worth it.”

“You were right…” Henry said.

Johnny stopped for a moment and glanced over at Henry warily.

“I won’t repeat myself, so get back to work.”

If we take Rosa with us it's time we tell her. We're beyond the point where keeping her unaware is helpful and she's such a snoop we won't be able to keep the particulars of our project hidden for long.

Before we get on the boat she still has a chance to save herself.

Say that we are a necromancer and that is the only secret we can safely reveal to her and that's final.

The packing went extremely slow. While Johnny had done a fantastic job while he’d worked there, the sheer volume and value of some of the materials Henry had was proving to be problematic. He’d probably lose several gold pieces worth of materials to rot and the elements due to the months he’d be spending away from home.

There was also the issue of the illusion rune, although the thing had just been recharged, it wouldn’t last more than several weeks, and once it gave way his home would be open to thieves. He refused to get anyone else’s help, since this place would be hit and anyone in it would be killed.

He did his best to make the place looked abandoned as Ophelia began to write down notes. The woman had gotten a headache midway through packing and hadn’t’ gotten back up to help.

“YOOO HOOO!” A familiar voice called out from the hallway.

Henry’s blood ran cold, and Johnny unsheathed his sword without any orders.

Lisa had come to visit.

“Henry! I know you’re innnn thereee!” Lisa said, giggling like a maniac.

Decisions:
1. *use undead command to get Johnny to take Ophelia and Charles into the storage rooms, away from prying eyes*

Henry sighed as he realized the bitch wouldn’t be able to come in without him letting her, and he had a blanket covered with some wood slats on the exterior of his home, which was close enough to a door that the vampiric affliction recognized it as an entrance. ‘

So Henry hid his shortsword beneath his cloak, for all the good that’d do him against a vampire, and stepped outside into the tunnel his home sat next to. He made sure that the covering to his home wasn’t too badly disturbed, to ensure that he’d his cover wouldn’t be blown if she didn’t KNOW yet.

Reassuringly she was alone and unarmed, although the bitch enjoyed ripping things apart with her hands, so it didn’t really mean much.

“Oh there you are~! For a moment I was worried my little birdies were wrong, and I’d have to pluck some feathers! How are you~?” Lisa said, with a more singsongy voice than she normally had.

“So how’d it go~?” Lisa asked.

“When Vermillion back? I prefer dealing with him.” Henry asked.

“He won’t be back to ruin things for a few more days at least.” Lisa replied. “Sides, old Vermilion’s no fun, always holding himself back! Well… I was going to offer you a deal…” Lisa said, grinning widely.

“Yeah, whats that?” Henry asked.

“Become my bloodling!” Lisa said, throwing her arms up into the air excitedly. “You know, immortality, fun on the run, I know you’d love it! I also know Vermillion’s never offered you that… do you want to know why?” Lisa said.

“…”

“Because he’s always been afraid of you, of you, why? I never understood why that man was so cautious with you!” Lisa continued, talking to herself, almost like Henry wasn’t there.

Henry had a fairly good idea of why Vermillion was cautious around him, Henry, despite his flaws, was a rather dangerous individual.

Henry laughed for a moment and waved his hand around dismissively.

“That’s one of the worst things I’ve ever been offered in my entire life. Why the HELL would I ever want to be subservient to you?” Henry asked.

Lisa stopped giggling and looked deadly serious all of a sudden. Henry had never seen her make that face before.

Fuck it he was already in trouble why not go all in?

He stepped back inside his home as he said a bunch of things that had been on his chest for years. How he fucking hated her, how she was a massive fucking bitch. Eventually he ran out of insults and got petty, saying how her teeth were crooked and he hair hadn’t been brushed in years. How her breath smelled like dead mice and not in a good way. Lastly Henry said that he’d always hated her and all vampires.

“And go rot in hell.” He said, finishing up.

What followed was incomprehensible screaming as Lisa went absolutely mental.

Henry thought he heard chunks of the tunnel wall being pulled out. He was pulled away from the door by a distraught Johnny as a single bloodied hand reached through the door to try and pull him outside. The hand was Lisa’s Henry thought, though it was missing several fingernails and one of the fingers had been broken rather awkwardly.

Perhaps he’d gone a bit too far…

“I’LL KILL YOU!” Lisa screamed. “I ALWAYS TREATED YOU SPECIALLY YOU UNGRATEFUL NOBODY!”

At that her vampiric curse kicked in and she pulled out her hand while screeching in pain. There was a second screech of pain and a thump as the sound of something heavy hitting the tunnel wall echoed throughout the sewers.

Henry figured she’d stumbled backwards into the sewer stream that ran by his house and had been repelled back.

He began to laugh, this entire show had been hilarious. Johnny gave him a look but he didn’t care. He NEEDED this god damn it.

“W-what was t-that?” Ophelia asked fearfully. The woman was crouched behind Charles, using the boy as an impromptu shield.

Charles for his part looked terrified but was holding his dagger up in a death grip. The boy’s form had improved a bit as well.

“Hey Charles? Remember Lisa from Yorkshire?” Henry said, grinning

“Yeah?”

“Guess who that was, and guess what just happened.”

“Ooooh.” Charles said, flashing a smile briefly before becoming worried. “Isn’t she mad?’

“She’s probably unconscious, can you check Johnny?”

“Fine.” Johnny said. “We’ll need to leave as soon as possible though.”

“Right right.”

Johnny went outside for a moment then returned.

“It’s a lot better than I thought, she’s gone into a resting state, seems she took too much damage and had to sleep.”

“So like she’s in a coffin?” Charles asked.

“Sort of?” Henry replied. “I won’t risk killing her myself but we should probably head out. I’ll explain the plan when I get back, alright?”

“Anything else you’d like to add. Sir?” Johnny said.

The man clearly expected some kind of apology or something for all the trouble.

“Hey Johnny, you know the rules of house Roma better than anyone.”

“What now?” Johnny asked.

“If we ended her, and dumped the ashes into the runoff, how likely would it be that Vermillion would trace it back to us, assuming the coup by Marlene doesn’t work.”

“If you’re asking me to kill her I’ll gladly do it.” Johnny replied. “I think it would be a bad idea in the medium run but a good long term idea. She’s too unstable.”

“Are you fucking serious?!” Ophelia asked. “House Roma will track you down if you kill any important member of their family! If I’d known you had relations with them I would’ve run FAR away…. The reason I’m still here is because we’re running far away. Let’s not antagonize them any further, okay? That way we can be left blissfully alive.”

“So as you may or may not be aware, I’ve been allied with the local House Roma Blood Baron, Vermillion. The man in charge of all their operations here in Celeste. I’ve supplied him undead for about a decade now.”

“Against your will?” Charles asked.

“Yeah, he took a liking to my work and after that I had no more say in it.” Henry said. “Until now anyways.”

“So… I threw my lot in… with you?” Ophelia asked, nearly collapsing to the floor from shock.

“Throws things into perspective doesn’t it? Perhaps you should just be thankful for things instead of turning your nose up on people who have far more control of their own lives.” Johnny replied.

The words hit Ophelia like a truck. The woman covered her face in shame while muttering to herself. Henry didn’t really have time to listen. He knew the two had been talking with one another but what exactly had Ophelia shared with Johnny?

“So she’s important to him?” Charles asked. “Why not take her?”

“That…” Henry said. “Well how could we even restrain her, not to mention its broad daylight out right now…”

“We could wait till nighttime maybe? Or we could bury her in rubble, right?

“My boy, I don’t think you realize how strong she is, she’s not a fledgling.” Johnny said. “She’s had at least seventy years being an undead abomination, and that gives her a fair bit of power.”

“Oh.” Charles said.

“Look we’re wasting time.” Henry said.

She knows Charles has black mana and she for some fucking reason began to see Henry as an upstanding man. Take Henry away from Charles and there will be no one to teach him responsibly and everyone knows what happens when little black shits grow up without father figures.

>>3322719
You realize that when the big bad fucking vampires and cultists see that the woman who returned together with Henry and Johnny disappears at the same time as Henry and Johnny, she becomes a target of opportunity? After we fuck up a job for Vermillion, after killing Lisa if some of you get their way (I see merits in both ways, so I'm not voting for or against it), he'll put a bounty on us and/or enterprising criminals will try to collect our head regardless. Verm is an immortal crime lord, not a retard.

If we DON'T tell her, these fucks are eventually going to succeed at killing or kidnapping her and she won't know who or why. She can't defend against fucking vampires and demon worshippers if she doesn't know about it. The guys can't always be there to protect her and it will only take one fuck up for her to clue in on something.

We lost the chance to ease her into it by deciding to tell her to pack up and leave tonight. We had opportunities but paranoia stopped it. If she can make an informed decision to stay or go there's a chance that she can get by unmolested even if she stays in the city.

I have an idea though. The way I see it there are a few choices.

1. Keep her in the dark and take her with us, with all that entails.

2. Tell the truth and hope she come with us.

3. Don't tell her the truth but send her away to that old pal we have working with the arch bishop or whatever. He knows what's up and she'll be as safe as can be.

4. Like number 3 but tell the truth. She's safer that way.

And I guess 5 is to shove her off the boat and say we changed our mind.

“I say we off her, and off her quickly.” Henry said, looking through his supplies, namely the firewood. He wondered if any of it would be fresh enough to take an effect. As he did so Johnny stepped outside while still holding onto his sword.

Henry rushed out in time to see the skeleton cleave off Lisa’s head and dump her body into the flowing water as the corpse turned to ash.

“Holy shi-“

“You wanted me to do it did you not?” Johnny asked.

“I wanted to fucking do it, the bitch has been hounding me for years.”

“Probably best if I did it then, you would’ve been too tempted to take your time. You still keep your old tools in the store room don’t you?”

“That… those are the highest quality tools around and you fucking know it, and its not like I’d be able to sell or dispose of them!”

“Let quit wasting time Henry. I don’t wish to ruin my good mood. I’ve killed more foul creatures in the past couple of weeks than I have in the last couple of centuries. I am pleasantly surprised to find I can still FEEL enjoyment.”

“Fucking hell Johnny.” Henry muttered.

Well, there was the fucking reason the man used to have access to black man.

“Come on Charles, Ophelia, no turning back now.”

“What of Rosa?” Charles asked.

“What about Rosa?” Henry responded.

“Does she know where to meet us?” Charles asked.

“I’ll head back over to her myself, don’t you worry.” Henry said.

He didn’t know whether he wanted to break the news of his profession to the woman, at the same time he knew that she was already too involved with him. Vermillion probably knew about her, or would find out about her, and the church’s protection wouldn’t extend far enough into the slums to keep her safe.

The group finished their packing after a couple of hours. They would’ve gotten done a bit sooner if Henrys hands would’ve stopped shaking. He was doing fine at putting on a front but internally he was terrified. It wasn’t nearly as bad as his first boat ride up to celeste, but it wasn’t a bag of sunshine either.

He left Charles and Johnny back at home while he and Ophelia headed out, Ophelia cast two scry spells on their way to Malory’s to see if they were being followed, fortunately Lisa had been alone. She’d always been somewhat of an idiot when it came to anything other than killing people. She’d probably expected Henry to jump at her little offer, what a stupid fucking bitch she’d been.

“So you really just murdered someone important to house Roma?” Ophelia asked. “If they find out…”

“They might, but we won’t be anywhere they can reach.” Henry replied. “Sides I expect the coup to have started already, and with Vermilion not here it should go well. I’m just worried for my… our safety.”

“Still not used to thinking of other people?” Ophelia asked.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Henry stopped in with Duncan and found out where Malory was staying. Henry didn’t share the details of his trip but explained he was moving incredibly volatile and dangerous cargo.

Duncan wasn’t exactly pleased to hear about the danger Henry was placing his daughter in, but upon learning Henry was willing to pay a gold or two piece for the trouble, he quickly changed his tune.

The woman was docked on the Lunsdale docks, in a small schooner. The ship was sail powered and a bit older than Duncan’s was, but it was an impressive craft regardless. Henry noticed that there were no crewmen currently aboard.

From what Henry understood Malory had yet to find a husband, which of course caused issues when it came to securing help for the craft. Henry wasn’t against getting his hands dirty either, perhaps he could use that to both speed up their trip and to cut down on costs…

Henry climbed the gangplank up onto the ships upper deck, it was a fairly small boat, but did boast two sails instead of the one Henry was used to, most of the boats from his childhood were small fishing vessels. Henry didn’t spend much money on travel either, most times. Whatever would get him there in one piece was fine, any extra luxuries weren’t needed.

“Malory, you on board?” Henry asked.

“I don’t think anyone’s here.” Ophelia said. “Judging by how dirty the damned floor is.”

“Oy! Henry!” A woman said from behind a door on the stern portion of the ship. Malory opened the door revealing the captains quarter behind, along with a mess of naval charts.

“Been busy?” Henry asked, glancing over at the charts.

“Not really…” Malory said, kicking the door closed with the back of her foot. “So what brings you here today?”

Henry took the time to look over Malory, the girl he’d rescued five years back had turned into a beautiful woman, shame she had such a temper if what Duncan said was to be believed. Trauma did strange things to the mind after all.

“So you gonna tell yer friend there to shut her mouth or does she want more bruises and scars?!” Malory said.

“W-well I was only t-telling the truth.” Ophelia said, backing up and hiding behind Henry. She poked her head around his arm nervously.

“And she’s a coward to boot, real nice friend you got there.” Malory continued.

“Look, let’s cut the shit, I need to be out of town pronto.” Henry said. “And no, its better if you don’t know why, I’m calling in that favor you owe me.”

“So it’s come down to that?” Malory said. “Where to?”

“Avignon, can you get us there by tomorrow?” Henry asked. “I can probably find my way after that, get set up again.

“Who the feck did you piss off this time?” Malory asked.

“This time? I make a habit of not pissing people off.” Henry said.

“Sure, fine. How’s that bag of bones doing?”

“Fucks sake you didn’t even know if Ophelia here knew.” Henry said.

“Well she looks like she’d know, also looks like she’s been around you too much.”

“The hells that supposed to mean?” Henry asked, trying to laugh it off.

“So it’s all settled then? Can we leave?” Ophelia asked.

Decisions:
1. *head back home and get ready* (will cause the group to depart Avignon)
2. *head to undertown and offer Larry an invitation to the party, or at least give him a warning to skip town.*

Henry quickly made his way to Undertown, tossing a couple of copper coins to the gatekeeper, and rushing through to find out where Larry was. He found him in Nessie’s bar, sipping away on a cup of ale, and singing a tune with the same group of thugs he’d nearly come to blows with the other day. Henry didn’t bother asking questions nor did he have the time to.

(-2 copper coins)

“Larry.” Henry said, near out of breath. “We need to talk.”

“Oh what’s it about?” Larry said, swinging his legs up onto the table and leaning back. “And I see you brought the cutie back.” Larry continued, smiling up at Ophelia.

The woman simple yawned and sat down. She was far too tired to even pretend to care.

Decisions:
1. “I’d recommend you get out of town as quickly as possible, for a few months, things are about to get real nasty.”
2. “There are about to be a lot of dead vampires soon, get out of town since I don’t know if you’ll be safe here.”

“I’d like you to come join me on a little trip I got planned.” Henry said.

“Oh mysterious, well I got nothing better going on right now, boozing up has grown old already.” Larry said. “Though the company’s been fun.”

“Aw thanks pal.” The tall thug said.

“Mind walking and talking?” Henry said, standing up faster than he would’ve liked. He could tell that Larry had noticed how jittery he was.

“You could use a drink more than anyone here pal, what’s the rush?”

“Just follow me, please.” Henry said.

Larry simply shrugged and followed him; the man didn’t even bother putting a hand on his weapon. Henry made a mental note that Larry trusted him for some ungodly reason. He could count on one hand the number of people he could trust, were all people from the country that stupid? Well, he wasn’t’ going to lead the man astray, least not intentionally, so maybe he wasn’t stupid.

As the three left Nessie’s bar, Henry began his little ‘speech’

“Look, things are about to go to shit down here and I’d like you to come get out while you can.” Henry said.

“Come on I’m sure things can’t get as bad as they were in Blaise or Grutzberg.” Larry said, “We survived those no problem, I’m sure we could ride this out.”

“It’s going to be far, far worse.” Ophelia said. “A gang war is brewing, whole underworlds gonna get swept up in it.”

“Something like that.” Henry said. “So are you interested? It’ll probably be safer than any other opti-“

“Say no more, I’m in.” Larry said.

“Just like that?” Henry asked.

“You’ve not led me wrong yet, sides I’m still waiting on you to strike it rich yeh? I might as well lend a hand in the meantime.”

Henry didn’t know how to respond to that, he almost felt like trusting the man.

As the group made their way back towards Henry’s home, Henry felt a chill run up his spine, looking behind him he saw a pack of rats scurry away in all directions.

Fucking hell he was having a ‘paranoid moment’ wasn’t he. He wouldn’t be telling Johnny about it.

The three returned home. There was much packing and deliberation. Some yelling, some laughing. A man with red mana helped while whistling a tune, a woman with blue and red mana constantly complained, trying to use her intellect to justify avoiding her fair share of the work. The boy with black, white, and a third undiscovered color took a page out of the skeleton’s book, and said as little as possible, simply watching and learning. The man with three colors, red, blue, and black, planned it all, their move to Avignon, how they’d start up the automaton project, where they’d pull supplies from, who they could sell too. He tossed away his old life, like he’d done many times before, but for the first time, he was truly making his own decisions.

Finally.

The pagan barkeep known as Nessie found Henry’s note on having his exotic supplies shipped out to Avignon. The woman crumpled the note up and tossed it away, before grudgingly coming back to it after her husband fished it out of the garbage, and due to the debt she owed Henry for saving her daughter.

The woman who couldn’t be seen due to a horrific curse noticed her former love’s absence almost immediately, and began forming plans on how to meet back up with him, and about the new job that had come across her desk.

An sneaky and very troubled man, wielding green and white mana, was congratulated for a job he really didn’t do, by both a man with green, and a man with white mana. He accepted their praise, and the rewards and trouble it brought, but he worried, and somehow knew, he wasn’t truly up to the tasks brought before him.

A vampire wielding black and red mana found out much too late that his position had been usurped, and he was now without a home. He found refuge with his people, but was disgraced. Offered a couple of choices, none of them good.

A thing, posing as a woman, wielding green and blue mana enjoyed the fruits of her labor, both literal and metaphorical. She smiled as her plans began to take root, and the man who’d help her survive and thrive. Her time would come soon, but not quite yet.

Out in the countryside, a man wielding a lot of white mana, and a familiar friend wielding red and white mana, finished their tour and made their way back to the capital. The time for pushing back the encroaching darkness had come, and they would find themselves lacking. For there was no shining beacon left to stop sweet revenge.

Less than a day later… on a boat

Henry sighed as he accounted for the last of the ‘critical’ supplies he could afford to bring. In all actuality running away had cost him a great deal, even if Malory had refused any payment he offered her. The woman had been steadfast in repaying her debt, even overcoming Henry’s habit of fairly paying people for their services. It unnerved him in ways he couldn’t understand.

As he got to the top deck, he found his ragtag band of misfits making idiots of themselves.

Charles was… well he was acting like a model child, but the kid was writing down something, taking notes on everyone, Henry figured. Johnny had said as much. It was a bit too obvious but Henry hoped the kid would learn that on his own, and hopefully in a way that wasn’t too painful.

Larry was lounging off to one side, his flame blade tucked under his arm. He had cotton clothes and a straw hat on, as well as a leather knapsack. Apparently this was what he found comfortable. He also had a set of cloth armor rolled up into a ball next to him.

Ophelia was… being Ophelia, taking notes, occasionally trying to bug Him with them, and generally keeping to herself.

Johnny was sitting cross legged and praying near the central mast, preferring to sit in the shade. It had some religious significance but Henry hardly cared.

Lastly there was Rosa… she was… peeking into the captains quarters while Malory was doing something inside.

Decisions:
1. *talk to Rosa*

“Wasn’t curiosity frowned upon by the church?” Henry asked.

“H-henry!” Rosa said, stumbling backwards and tripping over a piece of rope.

The woman fell onto the deck, luckily nothing broke her fall, and she sprawled out painfully on her back.

“So this is a thing now?” Henry asked, offering her a hand.

The woman helped herself up, swatting Henry’s hand away.

“I-I’d hope not!” She said. “And the church doesn’t frown upon curiosity at all! We’re you joking?”

“Yeah.”

“Excited about the trip?” Henry asked.

“Somewhat, I’m a bit nervous heading back down there with all the unrest. If I didn’t know how capable everyone here was I’d probably stay in Celeste.” Rosa said, laughing a little.

“Your welcome?” Henry said, confused.

“Thanks Henry, really.” Rosa said, smiling happily.

The woman looked beautiful when she smiled.

“You’re from the coast correct?” Henry said, leaning against the side of the boat.

“Well, sort of, I grew up several miles from the coast but I was close enough to walk if I had free time. I enjoyed walking along the sand. It was peaceful, its where I met my tutor actually.” Rosa said. “Learned most of what I know from her.”

“I was under the impression you were a self-taught genius.” Henry said, laughing.

“Did you mention me?” Ophelia asked, craning her neck in their general direction.

“Shut up!” Henry said back to her.

Henry thought about his own home, in that small village in Durkip Province. He remembered the fishing shack fondly, even now. He had a good life there, before everything had gone wrong. Did the town even exist anymore, he wondered. He’d never had the nerve to return there, he briefly considered doing so. Hell, maybe he’d even bump into some of his extended family, though he couldn’t remember anyone besides his brother, his father, and his mother.

He was terrified of it all.

He couldn’t understand, even now, how someone could hate their own family. Even the vampires didn’t fights among their families were common, certaintly, but within? Unheard of. Any fights were resolved without bloodshed, ironically enough. Troublemakers tended to be put down.

He had a special hatred in his heart for people that hated family. They were the only people you could really trust, right?

Were these people his family? Was Charles? Would he be a good father? Could he be? The questions hurt his head.

“She is the captain.” Henry said. “Daughter of a friend, tries to pilot this thing by herself, often needs help. Kinda a pain in the ass at times.”

“I… oh.” Rosa said. “Heh… I might’ve said a few things I shouldn’t have then.”

“Unless you said something really insulting she’ll be fine with it. She’s a hardy woman.” Henry replied.

“Well, beyond that she had all sorts of sea charts and it was awfully curious. I only saw one charting our route, the rest looked like they were a bunch of islands in the sea of eyes.”

“Like a couple big ones or a bunch of small ones?” Henry asked.

“A lot of tiny ones.”

“The shards then, no idea what she is thinking off but I honestly don’t want to know. Less trouble.”

“But isn’t it interesting?” Rosa asked. “I mean… the shards… not what she’s… up to…”

“I’m finished!” Malory said, kicking open her cabins door, which creaked in protest. “We can leave as soon as you’re ready! Should be able to make it before dawn if we’re lucky.”

“That quick?” Rosa asked.

“We aren’t carrying all that much cargo, so she’ll fly down the river!” Malory said, “Can’t believe you came to me for once instead of my father!” Malory said.

“You’re coming into your own, what can I say.” Henry said.

“Hey Rosa.” Henry said, “I… I um, well, I had something to say, something I’ve been needing to say for a little while now.”

“Then tell me Henry.” Rosa said, “I’ve got nothing but time right now.”

Henry opened his mouth but no noise came out, his sentimentality had taken over for a couple of seconds and now his brain had kicked back in and was SCREAMING at him to shut the fuck up and not tell the Church Healer about the fact he was a NECROMANCER.

“Henry?” Rosa asked.

“I…I wanted to thank you for coming with me on such short notice…” Henry said.

“Oh… well… your welcome.” Rosa said. The woman glanced towards the deck with a small smile on her face. She looked a tad embarrassed.

“So where do you want us to drop you off when we get to Avignon?” Henry asked.

“I can find my way when we get there, I know a couple of Cathar’s who’d be willing to provide me with a place to stay.” Rosa said. “But thanks.”

“Right…” Henry said.

“Well, I might as well mention how my lesson with Charles went… the boy… is talented but troubled.” Rosa whispered.

“Why do you say that?” Henry asked.

“He… I think he hasn’t quite gotten over everything that’s happened yet, which is understandable… I’d like to ask you for your permission to assist him through this trying time. I know you’re not open to prayer but I’d like to provide what help I can to the boy.”

“If it’s you I’d consider it.” Henry said. “I wouldn’t trust anyone else.”

“Henry… thank you.” Rosa said, giggling a little bit.

Henry smiled, she didn’t realize what he’d meant by that.

“Alright are we casting off now?” Malory said. “Enough of this tender hearts shite, I want to get movin already!”

“Yes fine, fecks sake.” Henry replied. “Can you stop yelling?”

“Alright boys, here’s how this is gonna work!” Malory said.

The woman explained how each of them would have a roll to fill with the function of the ship. Except for Rosa and Charles of course, despite the child’s protestations. Malory explained she only really needed two other people to crew the boat, Johnny was there to make things easier, basically. Malory set course for Avignon, and Henry breathed a sigh of relief as he left a massive shitstorm in the dust.

The halls of the Grand Cathedral shone brightly as the Seraph of dawn glided her way through them. The sun hung low in the sky, dusk was upon the world now. She didn’t pay much mind to the setting sun, her sisters would soon be arriving for a council meeting, the Lunarch would be in attendance too, as the human representative. This was considered a big deal among the mortals, but she couldn’t care less about which human sat in attendance, as long as they were competent and steadfast. Traits that were vanishingly rare, in her experience.

The Lunarch was both of these, and a great deal more, which was not a rarity, the position demanded it.

A couple of archangels approached and flanked her, acting as guards which she didn’t need. A shining halo appeared above her head as she readied herself for the upcoming conversation with her sisters. Before the severing, they could communicate directly with the Grand Seraph, and be basked in her light. Now her absence was the only thing The Seraph of Dawn noticed, that and the enemies she had driven in two.

She wanted to fight, yet she could find no opponent to slay, this wasn’t a battle that she could win by fighting.

You try to move to her, but her aura prevents you, you can merely watch.

A couple more angels joined the Seraph of dawn as finished her glide down the hallway. One of the angels advanced out in front to pull open a massive brass door that led into a beautifully decorated and embellished chamber. The ceiling was a dome with a small hole in the middle to let in moonlight. The center of the room had a small pool of water on the floor, above which sat an empty, floating throne. The Seraph of dawn flexed her three pairs of wings instinctually; perhaps she had been made nervous by the lack of a central guiding force.

The chamber was broken up into three sections, three seats in the middle of each. One for the Seraphs of Dawn, noon, and midnight. The Seraph of Noon sat in her throne to the left, speaking with a couple of human and angelic advisors. You watch as the Seraph of Dawn grimaces but says nothing.

Eventually The Seraph of Dawn tires of the sight and retreats to her own throne, a brass piece embellished with rubies and amber to symbolize red mana, and in the center of the headrest was an inlaid diamond, symbolizing the flow of white mana. The angel of Noon’s throne was embellished with emeralds and jade, while the Seraph of Midnight’s throne was embellished with sapphires and lapis lazuli.

Walking around the center of the chamber was a woman wearing black robes. The robes were inlaid with silver, with many different patterns along their edges. On her back was a round blot of silver, symbolizing the moon. The Lunarch was mumbling something or other.

Craz Curio was in a fairly important position. An advisor to one of the Seraphs, and the most ‘human’ one at that. The Seraph of Noon had personally selected him for this roll, and he’d treated it with the utmost importance. Giving little thought to things like family or personal happiness. He viewed the other human advisor, Glenda, with some disdain. He viewed her as unserious in her role. The other two advisors, angels, were far above his meager position. The only reason he spoke up was if there was something only he could add, or if he could spare the Seraph from the rare time she would make a mistake in dealing with her human followers.

“The Autumn horde grow ever bolder my grace, I believe we should request additional aid from the Seraph of dawn…” Britons said, the blonde haired angel who had a penchant for standing on one leg and using her staff to support herself. It had always struck Craz as unseemly for an angel, but he’d never brought it up of course.

“I disagree, we shouldn’t be so bold, and it would invite the Seraph of dawn into our affairs, she’s not known for her subtly…” Glinda replied. The Archangel was by far the most earthen of all the archangels Craz had ever encountered, which wasn’t exactly saying much. The archangels tended to be more celestial than their angelic kin. Far more bound to duty than anything else. Respectable.

The Seraph of dawn said nothing, looking blankly at the empty floating throne in front of her.

Autumn Horde was big werewolf army, right?
>*agree with Glinda*
Werewolves are by nature deceptive, taking their true form only under the full moon. A subtle yet smiting hand is better suited for something like them, and while Seraph of Dawn sure is smiting she sure isn't subtle.

“Werewolves are by their very nature deceptive and violent. An awful combination…” Craz said, causing his group to turn their attention towards him, he hated being the center of attention like this…

“Continue.” His Seraph commanded, a sweet tune with a strong undercurrent.

“Normally, I’d say that the Dawn’s single-minded nature would be incredibly useful here, but alas I don’t believe such methods will be of much use. We can’t afford to send a crusade into their territory, and even if we did we don’t have full support in the deep forest, regrettably. I believe we need a lighter touch.”

“If we could simply kill that Cain character.” Glinda said.

“That man may very well be immortal.” Britons said, “If I hadn’t heard it from Glinda I would never of believed he’d struck down an archangel in single combat.”

“I still refuse to believe it.” Glenda said.

“Regardless, a subtle yet all-encompassing hand is required, perhaps we should request the midnight’s aid instead.”
“Is that what you truly believe?” The Seraph of Noon asked. “You rarely speak, yet you say a great deal.”

“Yes my grace.” Craz replied.

“I will ponder it, I don’t enjoy working with either of my sisters, and I feel the emotion is shared among them. But if it will bring peace than it is a small price to pay.”

“THE SERAPH OF MIDNIGHT ENTERS!” A crier shouted from the chambers blue door.

A angel overflowing with blue and white mana, topped with a halo radiating mystery entered into the dome, completing the trifecta of angelic Seraphs.

Her three pairs of wings blew about like she was in a breeze, yet the rest of her stood eerily calm.

Once she was seated the Lunarch spoke up into a specially made staff with amplification runes built into it.

“Our mighty protectors and defenders, I thank you from the bottom of humanity’s collective heart for meeting here today at my bequest, I have news about the High Seraph’s entrapment, and upon referencing tomes as old as the Hell-Vault itself, I believe I’ve determined a way to free the High Seraph!”

The woman’s voice boomed off the walls, causing Craz to wince in pain. He didn’t like loud noises nor spectacles like this, couldn’t the Lunarch use normal means to communicate? It was like she was trying to compete with the Seraphs.

Decisions:
1. *wisely say nothing*
2. “So that’s where she was.”
3. “Where’s the catch?”
4. *sigh to yourself, what a mess*

Craz said nothing, only sighed to himself. What a fine mess this all was. He had heard tidbits from other members ‘in the know’ and from what his Seraph had deigned to tell him. He also knew well enough that things were going very, very wrong without the High Seraph to both guide and protect humanity.

It was why the troubles had come to Rutlamine, his own home city, and why the Autumn Horde was probing the defenses of the Frontier’s main city, Crestlin. Did the Lunarch have a solution?

“Speak now!” The Seraph of dawn said, her voice easily matching the Lunarch’s. “If you have a solution then tell us now! Do not hide it or use such annoying theatrics!”

The Lunarch seemed a loss for words for a moment. Then she continued.

“The Hellvault can be opened!” The Lunarch said.

“We know this already.” The Seraph of Midnight said, “We would have done so without hesitation if not for the fact it would also release every demon and horror of the night contained within the thing, including Him.”

“Yes, but there is something to be done!” The Lunarch said, the sheer excitement creeping through into her voice. “The Hellvault was consummated by the Royal Family in the past, their blood, their souls! We only need a member of their line!”

“Yet my understanding is your men eradicated them to the last.” The Seraph of Noon said.

“Yes, an unfortunate incident, but one that could not be helped. However, it is my understanding that there may be bastard children still remaining, and that we may be able to release the High Seraph by using them!”

The Seraph of Noon Grimaced, The Seraph of Midnight became lost in contemplation, while the Seraph of Dawn stood straight up and began barking orders to her followers before yelling at the Lunarch.

“Is this true?!”

“It is, we tested it, used a vial of the royal families blood we had preserved.” The Lunarch said. “Sadly it wasn’t nearly enough, and the effects were mixed due to the blood being old.”

“If we can free our everything from this foul prison, no price shall be too great!” The Seraph of Dawn declared. “I shall lead a grand crusade, to find any heirs to the throne!”

“What is the price the heir must pay?” The Seraph of Midnight asked.

“From what I have read… his life.” The Lunarch declared. “A sacrifice must be made I am afraid. There is nothing else to be done about it!”

“So we need to find him…” The Seraph of Dawn said. “I can spread my forces out, find him and-“

“You will do no such thing, we will not sacrifice a child, we will not lower ourselves like demons!” The Seraph of Noon said, raising her voice and becoming angry for the first time Craz had ever witnessed.

“EVERY DAY WE GROW WEAKER WHILE HE LAUGHS INSIDE HIS PRISON!” The Angel of dawn shouted. “EVERY DAY WE LOSE GROUND, IT CANNOT LAST!”

“Enough.” The Seraph of Midnight said, calmly dismissing the Dawn’s anger. “We will NOT do this unless all other options have been extinguished. The Solarch, the Seers, search every day for other answers while touring the kingdom. As they have faith in us, we must have faith in them.”

A Seraph saying such things caused a torrent of whispers around the chambers. The Seraphs were arguing, this was something that wasn’t supposed to happen.

Craz felt himself sink into his chair, the coming months were going to be hell.
