>What's this?
A shitty fan-fiction quest where you play as Hermann Schmidt in the Worm universe. I won't babble much, but your power basically allows you to make anything you want, but with the condition that it's super shitty in the beginning and you have to improve it.

Issue #1, Owner Of A Lonely Heart http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/3203426/
(Do Ctrl F and type in Akire if you want to find where I start)

Issue #2, A Day In A Life http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/3222606/

Issue #3, Blooming Villain http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/3266789/

>Last Time, On R.E.I.C.H & Friends

Moving around, you can still feel your body aching in pain. Looks like Assault was rougher than you expected, although that can't really be blamed on him. Leaning on the oppressive wall, you patiently wait for the door to open.

After a few minutes, Miss Militia finally walks inside. Donning her usual military attire, she wears an American themed bandana on her neck.

"Mr. Schmidt, I trust you're ready to leave?"

Nodding, you see your lawyer quietly exit the room. Before fully exiting, he throws you a wave, before vanishing.

"Good, let's get going."

Following, she leads you outside the room. To your surprise, there's not much more than a simple hallway outside. Taking a few turns, you see a few police officers giving you weird looks before finally arriving at the building's entrance. Leaving, you see the structure itself was some kind of police headquarters, fairly huge and tall one at that.

Leading you towards a nearby parked car, she motions for you to get in. Agreeing, you awkwardly enter inside the woman's car. Turning the ignition, she begins driving at a steady pace.

Relaxing, you stare vacantly at the surrounding streets. Cycling through your memories, you wonder how this entire situation started. What was the defining point, the singularity, that led to everything? Was it something that happened during these past few weeks, or was it something buried in the past?

"Stop it, Hermann! Fighting those damn chink gangs around Winslow is a waste of your time! Listen to your damn grandpa for once!"
"It displeases me to inform you that you've been expelled from Cornwall University. We gave you plenty of warnings, advice, and help yet you never took it in."
"Hermann, we have... news. Your grandfather finally-"

In the end, you honestly have no idea. Shaking your head, you try to clear yourself from those melodramatic thoughts.

"So... I guess I'm a hero, starting now..."

"Correct, I'd recommend you start thinking about a name. The last thing you want is for the PR guys to choose it for you, trust me."

Flashing her a polite smile, you begin thinking about aliases. You decided on Eitri for your villain name, although you never really got a chance to use it.

"Thanks for the tip, so uh... there's nothing broken inside me, right? I can still feel pain when I move."

"The doctors reported that everything was more or less fine. If you want, we can take a quick detour to the local hospital, Panacea should probably be there..."

Besides, there's no need to mind-rape people into compliance, how many capes want the world to be a better place?

How many would follow someone that improves energy generation techniques of third world nations, who could say no to the chance to alleviate global suffering, isn't it the job of every hero to reduce the suffering of those who do not deserve it?

If a certain someone were to foster national independence on a global scale with self sufficiency increases in destabilized nations would it not be heroic? Who could say no to the man making cheap filters, cheap solar panels and lights, cheap medical tools cheap firearms .We already want ethnostates, why not give those who embrace nationalism as a nation building technique the tech to make the nations they dream of?

It's an altruistic act that doesn't seem to break any laws, and if we hide it under a veil of legitimacy then nobody will know that we push for a united front, a nation for it's people, and a people for their nation.
>>
>>3309870
Nice speech but you're forgetting Tinkertech can't be maintained and repaired by normies, only Tinkers.
>>
>>3309790
Even if they have our blueprints I don't think another person let alone another tinker could replicate what we're capable of making, at least not the exact copy. So there's that.
Think about making bio serums. We need test subjects to inject. We'll need mice, then we move on to injecting chinks.

>>3309875
and there's the problem of making all of that for cheap.
>>
>>3309870
Fuck all that noise. Our guy is all about the preservation of the Aryan race, Nordic mysticism, and getting payback against the PRT scumbags who stalked, harassed, and assaulted him. For the crime of defending himself against gangsters and a literal suicide bomber.

"Sure, better safe than sorry"

"Fair enough, let's take a turn here."

Turning a sudden left, she drives the car rather robotically. Or maybe you're too used to seeing emotional drivers...

"Uh... How long was I out for?"

"Hm...for a good seven or eight hours. We were worried that you'd be out for longer."

Parking the car, you see a rather bleak hospital right in front of you. Walking inside, you see a bored looking female receptionist, wearing a deadpan expression. Taking the lead, Miss Militia begins politely speaking

"Is Panacea in, miss?"

"Yes, she's currently on the second floor, at Ward E. Go knock yourself out."

"Thank you."

Following her, she takes you up the wooden stairs and begins walking past through several rooms. It doesn't take long until you reach 'Ward E'. Together, both of you enter.

The first thing you witness is a mousy girl on the brink of exhaustion. Just from looking, you can tell the bags under her eyes are real. The second thing that comes into the frame is her red and white robe that has several medical crosses.

[Green]"Hm... she doesn't look too great herself. Perhaps we should-"

Cutting you off, Miss Militia slowly walks upfront of the battered women.

"Panacea... can I ask of you one last job for the day?"

"S-sure... what is it?"

"I need you to do some checks on this guy, behind me. Fix any bruises or wounds he may or may not have."

"Fine... let's get this over with."

Moving towards you, she places her right hand on your shoulder. Immediately, you experience a downright weird sensation within your body. After a few minutes of this, she finally removes her hand.

"Done..."

After a long pause, she almost instantly rolls back onto an empty hospital bed. Shrugging, you can tell your body's feeling much better.

"That was... something."

Getting back into the car, you notice the sunset slowly fading away from the city. Your driver, Miss Militia begins picking up the pace until you reach the dreaded monstrosity that is the floating base of the Protectorate. Taking out a badge, she waves it around some kind of scanner until... a blue forcefield forms above the ocean? Casually, she drives on it like a road until you're finally inside the compound.

You know what would be a good thing to do for Amy?
Making a Auto-Docs or healing potions for the BB hospitals so she doesn't work herself to death/insanity.

Finally inside you almost begin foaming. You've heard rumors about this place, but it's quite literally a tinker's paradise. Aesthetically and Architecturally speaking, it's practically an art piece. Smirking, Miss Militia seems to detect your amazement. Parking her car, she motions for you to exit. Complying, you still try to take it all in.

"This is my... Home."

"Yep, get used to it. Believe it or not, that reaction is common."

Pondering something, she takes out a phone and begins messing around with it. After a few minutes of sightseeing, you see Assault slowly greet both of you.

"Hey, you're a bit later than I expected, was traffic a problem?"

"No, but I had to make a short stop at the hospital. Our new co-worker here apparently didn't feel that great, so we sorted him out."

Nodding, he stays quiet for a few moments before facing you directly.

"I imagine this a bit awkward for the both of us, but let's leave the past in the past, huh? You've got a new start here, let's use it."

Smiling, he offers you a friendly handshake

Deciding that acting like an ass isn't a great way to start off, you take the man's handshake. After a few seconds, you both let go, and you wait for him to continue.

"I'll take over from here, Miss Militia."

Nodding, she leaves you the two of you.

"So... where'd you like to start? There's your living quarters, The workshop, The cafeteria, Hm... ah, yeah there's that."

Searching his pockets, he takes out an over-designed watch of sorts and shows it to you.

"Starting now, you'll be required to wear this watch."

Frowning, you're left a bit confused.

"Why?"

"Because this is our way of keeping 'watch' over you. This thing will track your position, heart rate, and body temperature. And please, don't try to remove it, because if you do, you'll be sent flat-out cold due to being injected with a tinker-drug."

"Huh..."

Moving closer, he gently grabs your right hand and slaps the thing on. Automatically, the device adjusts itself to your arm and fits like a glove. Surprisingly, the thing's rather lighter than it looks.

"There, now as I was saying, where do you want to start off? If you're hungry, we can check out the cafeteria. If you're wanting to find whatever none-confiscated goods you have left are, they should be in your new living arrangements. Or, since you're a tinker, we could always check out the workshop. "Before I answer, where's my damn apology for STOMPING on my throat?"

Sheepishly grinning, Assault strokes his head

"Sorry about that..."

"Good fight, though"

Smirking, you both let out a chuckle

"I was just fucking with you, anyway I'd prefer to check out the Workshop since I'm probably going to spend most of my time there."

"Righto, follow me then."

Keeping pace, you enter through several unfamiliar buildings and finally arrive at an elevator. After some brisk small-talk, you finally hear a 'ding' and proceed to exit. Taking a few more turns, your brain is almost left mushy as you try to remember the route.

After a few more minutes of walking, both of you stand in front of an outright massive door. Confused, you see Assault bang his hand against the door

"Chris! You there?"

After a few seconds of silence, you hear the door creak open. Instantly, you're met with a dirty teenager with brown hair.

"What is it? I'm a bit busy..."

"I need you to show this newbie around the workshop, he's our new tinker you see."

"Fine, fine come in. Watch the ground, would ya? I may have been a bit too messy."

Entering inside, you're left a bit gobsmacked. This isn't just messy, this is a damn eyesore! How hard is it to keep stuff relativity tidy?! Everything is everywhere!

"So, uh... I guess I can show you where we put everything. Don't touch any of my half-finished junk."

"Sure... Hm... why is this place so damn untidy?!"

"Huh...?"

"I'm asking, why is there zero organization! you've just dumped everything everywhere! Good grief..."

Sighing, you're left a bit discouraged. This isn't exactly a great start...

"First off, why haven't you stored all the tools neatly in one place!? Secondly, why haven't you stored your materials in different piles?"

For a good half hour, you barrage the poor kid with criticisms about his tinkering etiquette.

"-And that's why creating a multi-tool is the most efficient way to forward your tinkering."

Finally stopping, you let the Chris absorb all your useful advice.

"Wow... uh... you're a real expert, huh? Did you study engineering or something at University?"

"Hm?"

"Well, you're clearly an adult, so it wouldn't be that surprising."

"Well, you're half right. I did study at Uni, although my subject wasn't Engineering..."

"What was it, then?"

"Well..."

Cya tommorow, Akire.
I can't wait to be the worlds nicest guy to everyone here except Armstism just so our inevitable betrayal is even more shocking.
Alternatively we attempt to sow dissent until eventually we manage to cause a splinter to break away from the PRT.
I don't want to kill the non autistic people working here, personally.
The ones that are trying to make the world a better place but are merely misguided and led by a thuggish, inefficient leadership I'm less ok with killing than "SUPERHERO MY JOB, POINT ME IN DIRECTION AND GIVE PROMOTION PLEEEASSEE".
Also I like the idea of building medical shit (for Good Boy points and totally not for imbibing ourselves with fucktons of genemods and NANOMACHINES SON(if we can make em))
Also recruiting Panacea could be a "good" plan and medical tech would give us some sort of launch platform.

We can do bio tínker shit right? We need to identify the knockout drug in the watch and give ourselves immunity or concoct an antidote on the sly. Befriending Panacea is always good, you don't want to be on bad terms with the people who keep you alive.

I have a problem with making plans in the Worm quests, because it's impossible to avoid abusing meta knowledge, and metagaming is gay

I don't see how it's military police themed and the suit design I posted doesn't mean it's not Hero material.
Definitely not going for the Spartan armor. If we have force field and reactive gel technology then maybe, but if no then this hardly covers anything. It looks like you'd be wearing a spandex suit under some pieces of armor while your arms are still relatively exposed. We need that sweet full body protection.

>>
>>3311097
Unless you mean as a fake weakness for the PRT i don't see that much merit to making all our equipment look german, also theres a limit in how many things germany produced and what do you even mean that our power makes it so we can only make things german-looking, you mean aestetic or solid/durable perhaps?

If we are going to use heavy power armour, maybe something like this? Although I'm personally in favour of a lighter, speedy approach given staying at range keeps us safe.

Also the already discussed forms of P.A are fine, so long as we don't go running about talking about reclaiming the polish corridor or asking people why we can't play "Erika" on patrol.

>>
>>3311181
I think thats perhaps too heavy what about something like this?
>>
>>3311157
They already know we can make exosuits, modify pump action shotguns into automatics, create automated turrets, and make stun lasers which I hope we could see to the PRT for lots of money.
So I'm sticking with wanting the german (not nazi) power armor design, and there's not much to hide from a thinker.

Gentlemen, you fail to conceive of the greatest form possible. The cold resilience of metal, the brutal adaptability of nature and the dominance of a superior mind all melding into one form.

We shall not achieve it by crude implements of iron, attached to flesh like a ship's surgeon from the 1700's. No, we shall create machines and medicines to cure and reconstruct us, to draw from our flesh that most universal condition: weakness.

We must solve our fundamental weaknesses and work our way up. We must become tireless, unageing, unfeeling of pain and from this fine foundation, we shall build a temple of the human form to bear forth our will.

Why are people even discussing armor when the fucking PRT is just gonna sabotage it and steal whatever they can from us? Let’s just do the brain enhancement and super soldier serum before we even think about anything else.
>>
>>3312614
i think you understimate how hard making the super soldier serum could be, also i think it would be more realistic if the inteligence serum would make us more inteligent gradually, throught doses over various days/weeks
>>
>>3312634
it doesn't mater much in this case thats kid win who we talked whit, we should not give advice to armsmaster or dragon, also since we are discussing this i propose that we try to pass as a Limit x Combat thinker, basically a tinker that has a main field, but can incorporate other
tinker desigs in his work and can dabble in other fields, the combat part is self explaneatory basically combat focused creations
>>
>>3312614
Because it is fun anon.
It will be a while until we can create the super soldier/smart serum, so we'll need a costume until then for public appearances, patrols, etc.

Also I don't think we should go full power armor yet, something like pic related would be the best option IMO.
>>
>>3312671
Thats ok the only problem i see is how to obtain those rats, it would look suspicious if we go to a pet shop in search of lab rats while being watched

>>
>>3312731
I know that we are a free tinker but i still can't shake the feeling that the moment we step out of sight they will start questioning us with the aid of their thinkers, also on another note, i would like us to start tinkering for a water repelant of some kind with the excuse for it being that the rain could fuck with our tech or simply doing it because we could, because if you lot don't remember levi has water sense

>>3312614
>>3312634
They could get their hands on our serum too, and that would be worse than them duplicating our current armour and tech.
>>
>>3312991
They'll want to examine the samples we make "before" we test them on the rate or the left over samples. They'll also want to know the purpose for us injecting rats. We'll probably have to order rats and the chemicals from them to do so.
>>
>>3312991
And no ones gonna ask what the Rats are for? What if they escape and start a nest somewhere in the building? I think your desire for this is making you overconfident. While its not impossible to do, there is a lot more we need to plan and figure out. I think that we should escape before doing any heavy type of experimentation while making altruistic inventions for the public.

The best bet we would have imo is trying to make contact with the E88 or get them interested enough into us to make the contact, and have them help us escape.
>>
>>3313017
We do actually have to tell them or give them the things to be inspected. They would want to know about such a catalyst, and there is no doubt they would know.
>>
>>3313040
Again they would probably keep record of everything we do. Still down the odds of hiding anything.

>>3313051

Anon, there are multiple ways we can escape.
We need to slowly redpill the more useful heroes.
Also considering we can make And upgrade ANYTHING you're being a bit too defeatist.
Idea: don't attempt to remove bracelet, attempt to upgrade it into a knockout dart shooter maybe.
Cutting off our hand works around it too.
Making our own AI to fuck with it and Dragon is possibly a thing too.

We also have to deal with surprise inspections while we are in the middle of work.

More than likely we would be under video surveillance.

>>3313051

Especially the chance to beat down some ABB goons, even though last thread showed that the ABB was being taken apart by everyone else since we severely weakened them in the junkyard by taking out Oni Lee and tons of goons. Handing over our freedom and independence is definitely worth doing what we were already doing, only now we get to hand over all of our cool shit to the people who spied on us, assaulted us, and enslaved us.

I think it was due to the fact that we were in combat and anons made decision on the mediate short term need, to benefit us even tho we didn't us it in combat.

Also, we didn't get the Mossberg Maverick 88!

"Let's get something to eat. Believe it or not, fighting three heroes really tires you out."

Smirking, You and Assault walk pass countless guards, researchers and office workers on their shifts. Taking the elevator, you eventually reach a hall which could be described as a 'cafeteria'. Entering, you see various groups of people eating food. Heading towards the serving area, you select a few hot foods alongside your guide.

Plate in hand, you quietly mind your own business and take an empty, clean plastic table. Assault follows suit, and you both begin digging in.

"This is free, right?"

"Yup, it's practically a buffet for everyone who works here. The heroes, office workers, researchers, doctors, teachers and whoever else we employ. I know a few of the cooks, great guys."

Taking another bite, your mind drifts to one thing to another

"So I was told I'd have to take classes, what kind exactly?"

"Hm... Self Defence, Arresting Procedure, various protocols on how to deal with each classification. Uh... there's probably more, although I can't really recall all of them on top of my head. They'll probably rotate the topics once they've deemed you well accustomed enough to move on. I wouldn't worry about it, practically everyone has to do it, even the Wards."

"Ah, I nearly forgot. The Parahuman Science guys will probably ask you to do some testing. Since you're a tinker, I can imagine they'll do some tests for your specialty."

Nodding along, you continue eating your food at a relaxed pace. Surprisingly, the general atmosphere is rather calm, contrary to your expectations. Taking a gulp of water, you try to enjoy yourself.

"When will I start work exactly?"

"A few days, I'd guess. Due to the obvious, you're kinda useless without any gear so they'll probably let you create a few gadgets or whatever. Still, don't expect any cape action soon."

Finishing your meals more or less simultaneously, you place your dirty dishes and cutlery together.

"Let's get going, eh'?"

Agreeing, you follow Assault outside, and he leads you through a now somewhat familiar elevator. Pressing '-1 F', the both of you descend downwards. After a short period passes by, the elevator's door opens and you're met with more confusing hallways... Letting Assault show you the way, he leads you towards a room labeled 1-P.

Taking out a keycard, Assault slaps it in front of a sensor, and you hear the door 'click'

"This is yours, I'll be leaving Hermann. Good night."

Taking the plastic card in question, you wave him goodbye before entering your new room.

Walking inside, the first thing that stands out is the space. Wandering around, you notice there are two differing areas. One is the 'office', where there's one massive desk, coupled with a fairly nice looking monitor and computer. Next to it exists a pile of paper that somehow seem ominous.

In the main part of the room exists a rather comfy looking Mahagonny bed, coupled with a few drawers and closets. There's, of course, a bathroom at the very end. On top of the bed in question, you find a small cardboard box labeled 'possessions'. Opening it up, you find some recognizable items. Some clothes, and some other junk you've never bothered with. What catches your notice however is your Multi-Tool. On it, is a post note saying 'Testing has proved that this item is safe for use.'

Moving towards your newfound desk, you glance at the first few pages and try to get a general idea of what it's trying to say

*You will be required to join in several classes, go on patrols and join in public events.
*So far, you will only be allowed your Multi-Tool. Everything else is locked away, and will only be used in case of a Class A threat or higher.
*You will need to come up with an appropriate hero name, identity and costume within the next three days. On the 29th, we've arranged a meeting with an expert at 11:10.
*Any sharp or lethal weaponry will be immediately vetoed for use. Additionally, you must submit any tinker-gear you plan to use for testing.
*You will receive a monthly budget for materials.
*On the 29th, at 13:35 you will be required to conduct in testing of your powers, with several parahuman researchers.
*Any conflict with PRT staff will be severely reprimanded.
*Inside the drawer in front of you should be a PRT issued phone, this will be your work phone.
*Mandatory therapist sessions will occur every three days.

Taking everything in, you fall down onto your bed and the exhaustion from earlier hits you in full force.

Waking up in an unfamiliar room, you almost scare yourself shitless before you remember the events of yesterday. Chastising yourself, you realize that they didn't return the AWG, frowning, you wonder why the world is such a cruel place.

Washing and drying yourself, you take out some casual clothes and wear them. Noticing the spare amount of time, you decide to spend it on sorting everything neatly. Turning on the computer, you set up a password before grabbing the piles of clothes and shoveling them inside the drawers.

Grabbing your new work phone and keycard, you try to remember the way to the cafeteria...

For a few moments, it seems like she's about to respond in some manner, but she just shrugs it off leaves you awkwardly alone.

Leaving it at that, you move forward slightly annoyed in the search of the holy grai-you mean the cafeteria. After finally getting towards the elevator, the rest of the trip is more or less uneventful.

Arriving at the cafeteria, you pick out some delicious looking bacon and egg sandwiches before considering the matter of seating. You could try to be sociable with a group of strangers, or... just mind your own business.

Minding your own business, you take out your newly acquired food to an empty, plastic table nearby. Eating your meal emotionlessly you watch groups of people grabbing their breakfast. Some are dressed in guard uniforms, others in lab-coats, and a few wear mundane office attire.

A few groups stand out, however. Those dressed in non-work related clothing are the obvious exceptions. It doesn't exactly take a grade A detective to deduce that they're probably either heroes or wards. Resuming, you finish off your food before you receive an alert on your phone. Taking it out, you read the message.

*Meeting in 15 minutes, stay at your location. We'll send a guard over to guide you.*

Shrugging it off, you choose to comply. Finishing off some coffee, you finally see a goon walk up to you.

"Mr.Schmidt, I presume?"

"Yeah, that's me. Let's get this over with."

Leaving your seat, you let mook guide the way. After a few minutes of mindlessly following, you finally reach a building called the 'PR Branch'. Walking inside, the first thing you see and hear is a pissed off man yelling at his co-worker

"You call that fuckin' poster!? Get outta' my sight you incompetent buffoon, you better show me something damn good or I'll cut your damn paycheck in half!"

Taking it all in, you see the young worker shamefully walk away back to his assumed seat. Cautiously, you slowly walk up to the ferocious middle-aged man in question.

"Excuse me..."

"Who the fuck are you, Jimbo? What do you want?"

"Apparently I have a meeting here...?"

"Ah, you're that new cape. Great, take a seat. We're going to be here for awhile."

Doing as he orders, you grab a chair from nearby and seat yourself.

"Now, before we begin here let's set up some rules. One, no edgy shit. I already get enough slack from the higher-ups due to the whole Shadow Stalker situation. Secondly, no power armor! I've been explicitly told that's a no go zone."

"Today, we'll be focusing on an outfit and name. Got any bright ideas?"

Jesus christ this is a cancerous conversation you are all having. Feel I must point out a few things:

1) >>3313883's a idiot, there is no such rule. I checked the http://www.4channel.org/rules# and it lists no such thing. So stop claiming there is.

2) Who gives a shit if they actually get our tech? I mean 99% of the shit we could possibly make is stuff they already have access to and in all honesty we just need to create enough decent shit that our stack of tricks and gadgets can neutralise anyone they send after us. Especially given the fact that tinker-tech is unreliable and hard to maintain without an appropriately skilled tinker, so so long as we aren't producing some sort of miracle tech that they can't do without.

3) We have two years to figure out a solution to all this shit and to be honest I think we can do some real good while we're waiting for a good time to break out or something. Everything from working out, to making a name for ourselves or just studying different pieces of tinker-tech made by others to improve our own skills.

>>3313903
See I agree but the problem is that it works better if we had gone to the birdcage and if we'd actually been betrayed. It is however probably the best name we're going to come up with anytime soon unless we agree to use Janissary.

Also in regards to it being against the rules, I literally couldn't care. It doesn't matter given the complete lack of any enforcement on this board and to be honest it is a bullshit reason to report someone. This, the story of the Janissary is really interesting as they slowly shifted over time from being a purely military force that had few social, economic or political powers into a force which somewhat caused the fall of the Ottomans thanks to their corruption.

They were however highly respected and feared soldiers for the period, admittedly because the Ottomans generally marshalled forces larger than most nations they fought, equipped far better than most and religiously motivated in most of their wars. Especially because of their direct loyalty to the Sultan rendering them more reliable than any other force.

Janissary FTW, Monte Cristo sounds good but maybe it would tip them off, tough i only saw the movie, also Janissary fits with the Mythologic/ancient theme that many heroes like
>>
>>3314006
I know, me too. But I suppose I should explain myself. I feel that due to us lacking the more direct story of Monte Cristo, >>3313917 has a point in this and I agree. One of the main points of The Count of Monte Criso is that he is that he is Imprisoned. We never saw the insides of a jailcell for even a minute. Never had the chance for our hatred to really brew and build a fortune.

We probably maybe have kept the name Eitri as well so it would have been a choice to change it from Eitri to another name. It may not have changed to Monte Cristo

We are more like a Janissary due to our forced servitude and indoctrination into joining and likely fighting for the PRT for a little while. it can be a bit on the nose but its more accurate.

That said, I won't be upset if Monte Cristo wins.
>>
>>3314016
It has a double meaning, and we are going to have to act to make them think it means the other, less malicious meaning. There are smart people in the PRT so some would maybe suspect something but we would never give them reason to.

However Janissary is a lot more direct. There are less ways obvious or cultural understandings of that name to be misunderstood.

>>
the reason why i dont want JANNIESARY
it reminds me of janitor and it feels weird having a turk name and i really like monte for some silly and serious reasons like our PHO name the sandwiches and our imprisonment and i dont think they are going to accept the name of a slave soldier in the pr department and with monte cristo we still follow the imprisonment part of the history behind that name
>>

Well I picked Monte Cristo first because Janissary wasn't on the list and trying to put a unofficial name on the list is a pain in the ass, and could result in wasting my vote. It was also partly in competition at the start with other names like Eureka, so voting for a "3rd party" at the time was silly. I did not expect any of the surges in votes and agreement. Also it makes me look like a trolling douche, since I am a sort of defacto advocate for this name change.

Janissary =/= Janitor
Janis =/= Jannie or Janny
Only if you get it wrong on purpose.

Names that may look or sound similar can mean total different things.

True, most of the people their look fairly uncultured and we can put on an assassins creed look or spin to it.

I will say tho, there is a good chance this won't get accepted by the guy we are talking to right now. They filter out names like this intentionally so there won't be embarrassing PR snafus..... like the one I'm planning.....

Pondering the subject of names, you come up with a pretty cheeky one. Smirking, you can only hope they're dumb enough to accept it.

"For a name, what about Janissary?"

"Jannissary? The fuck's a Janissary? Someone look up what a damn Janissary is!"

For a few moments of silence, you can hear several workers typing on their keyboards hastily

"Uh, sir... it's some kind of... Turkish slave-soldier?"

"Slave soldier!? That's big no, you know how the news like to tear us apart for every little thing, I can already imagine the headlines! New 'Slave-Solider' on the scene! Goddamn, that'd be worse than Clockblocker."

Letting out a sigh of disappointment, you consider your options before choosing your second favorite.

"Monte-Cristo?"

"More foreign gibberish, huh!? Someone look up 'Monte-Cristo'!"

Again, you hear clatterings of keyboards on repeat.

"It's... some kind of Sandwich?"

"Alright, that's a better start. Has it been used?"

"Uhm... No, not at all."

"Good, good. Now we're cooking, we have an actual name to base something around. Any ideas for the 'costume' part?"

"Hm... I was thinking of going for a 'heroic mad scientist' kind of vibe, maybe I could have an armored lab-coat?"

Writing this down on a notepad, the man stays quiet for a few moments before responding

"We could probably do that. There's still the issue of a mask. we have plenty of spares in storage for the short term, although... if you want, I'll let you make your own mask. Just for the love of god don't go overboard, for all of us."

Nodding, you've found yourself more or less satisfied with this arrangement.

"Mr.Schmidt, it's about time we leave. The walk to the Parahumans Science branch is a bit long, so I'd like to start it already."

"Sure... It was nice meeting you, Mr...?"

"Jameson, Branch leader of Public Relations. Nice talking to you, Monte-Cristo. I hope for both of our sakes that you don't come back here often."

Somewhat confused, you leave the building with a real cape identity.

Also, seeing as they aren't letting us have any P.A, at least any time soon, we're going to need to change up our plans a bit in terms of combat and stuff.

I think we should build ourselves into a speedster-blaster: if we can make even a basic jet-pack then that grants us sufficient mobility to avoid getting tied down against most foes; in combination with our fairly powerful stunning energy weapons and a bit of light armour we're a hard hitting non-lethal foe that can realistically avoid anyone without flight or teleportation while still being tanky enough to take the occasional bullet or knife.

PARAHUMAN TEST #10067, CONDUCTED BY HEAD RESEARCHER JAMEY REECE
SUBJECT: MONTE-CRISTO
TEST STARTED WAS STARTED AT 4/29/11 BEGAN 13:35, ENDED 16:23

MONTE-CRISTO CLAIMED TO BE A TINKER, EVIDENCE GROUP #A THAT WAS DISCOVERED BY PRT OPERATIVES PROVED THIS WITHOUT DOUBT.

WHEN ASKED WHAT HIS SPECIALTY WAS, SUBJECT STATED THAT HE WASN'T SURE. MADE A VAGUE GUESS THAT IT WAS COMBAT RELATED.

SUBJECT WAS SHOWN BLUEPRINTS HE MADE, CLAIMED HE COULD ONLY MAKE THEM AFTER HE CREATED SOMETHING (UNCONTESTED)

WHEN ASKED TO CREATE SOMETHING WITH A SMALL NUMBER OF PARTS, SUBJECT MADE A 'BAREBONES' RAYGUN (SEE EVIDENCE GROUP #B)

TESTING OF SAID RAYGUN SHOWED THAT THE WEAPON HAD THE POTENTIAL TO BLOW OFF A DOOR. FURTHER TESTING REVEALED THAT THE WEAPON HAS A SHORT COOLING PERIOD AFTER EVERY SHOT, AND HAD A 1/6 CHANCE OF FIRING.

SUBJECT COMMENTED THAT HE MADE IMPROVEMENTS TO THIS DESIGN VIA REDUCING THE LETHALITY. THIS SEEMS TO LINE UP WITH A BLUEPRINT FOUND (SEE #A)

WHEN QUESTIONED ABOUT HOW WELDER (SEE #A) WAS POWERED, SUBJECT DODGED THE QUESTION STATING 'HE WASN'T SURE'. EARLIER RESEARCH ON THE DEVICE IN QUESTION SHOWED THAT ELECTRICITY WAS SUPPLIED VIA A BATTERY OF SOME SORT.

WHEN SHOWED THE 'BATTERY' SUBJECT CHANGED HIS CLAIM, STATING THAT IT WAS SOME KIND OF KINETIC POWER SUPPLY (UNCONTESTED)

REPEATING THIS PROCESS, IN SHORT, SUBJECT CLAIMED THAT: THE LASER RIFLE WAS SIMILAR IN DESIGN, ALTHOUGH IT USED A MUCH MORE 'NEUTERED' DESIGN. THE SHOTGUN FOUND WAS APPARENTLY A MODIFIED MOSSBERG 500 (PROVEN)

CONCLUSION
WHILE THE SUBJECT'S EXACT FIELD IS UNKNOWN, WE CAN SAY WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT, AT THE VERY LEAST, IT CAN BE USED TO CREATE COMBAT RELATED ITEMS. TESTING ON ITEMs 'P.A' AND 'A.W.G' ARE STILL CURRENTLY IN THEIR INFANCY STAGES, AND WE CAN EXPECT TO HEAR SUFFICIENT RESULTS NEXT WEEK.

SOON BEFORE THIS TEST WAS CONDUCTED, WE RECEIVED A REPORT FROM WEDGDG STATING THAT APPRAIZER RATED THE SUBJECT A 'YELLOW', MEANWHILE ELEVENTH HOUR HAD GIVEN HIM A 'SEVEN'. ELEVENTH'S RATING IS PARTICULARLY ALARMING, AND WE WILL KEEPING A WATCHFUL EYE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE INVOLVED. FURTHERMORE, WE WILL REQUEST THE ASSISTANCE OF WEDGDG's THINKERS REGARDING ANY ISSUES WE MAY FIND IMPORTANT MOVING FORWARD.

I FEEL IT'S NECESSARY TO RATE MONTE-CRISTO AS A TINKER 6 (BRUTE 4?/MOVER 3?/SHAKER AND BLASTER 4?) FOR NOW. THESE RATINGS WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY CHANGE OVER TIME AS WE EVALUATE THE DATA.
>>

>>
>>3314762
We have the potential to be a high threat, given anyone with a combat focus tinker skill can in theory create deadly weapons capable of harming supers, that can in turn be given to normal people.

We are a force multiplier. For them, not useful given they are the supers but if we worked for a gang or were otherwise against them, then we'd be a fairly large threat.

>>3314757

>>3314762
Almost any Tinker can be considered a high thread if they have the time and resources.
>>
>>3315194
Not all tinkers are equally as dangerous, Leet and Kid Win aren't very dangerous even with a ton of time and resources at their dissposal, for example due to Leet not taking risks and the nature of his power he can't improve or reuse his designs reliably and in Kid Win's case he can't focus his power very well due to pre-trigger mental problems, on the other hand theres peoplé like String Theory whose speciality is Doomsday devices... so not all Tinkers have the same potential

>>3315314

You know we could try to go for a Quicksilver coated mask that can reform itself into another face after we have the features done, so that would be a cool trick.

Especially if we do not mention it to the PRT and do not use it.

It will look like a featureless , smooth silver liquid mask, waiting to pull a T-1000/ T-X with its totally not pseudoliquid necrodermis.
>>
>>3314762
If they figgure out we can produce anything with blueprints and leave said blueprints around it pretty much makes us the golden ticket of mass production tinkery, as it allows one to translate from the madscientist super who builds a few toys that are inexplicable to the plebs to madscientist super who leaves monkey see monkey do instruction list they can follow for production and maintenence.

Sure they probably wont understand a tenth of the science involved, but if you get a fuck ton greater results of mass production and maintenance of tinkerteck by acting like the Cult Mechanicus....

Yeah, we are a fucking high level threat, but only if we manage to get to the leadership of a organisation we approve and where we are interested in handing over blueprints.

At this level of basic tinker gear they probably wont be all that awed if they can replicate them by our blueprints, since they can explain it away as a tinker trying to figgure out what he did in tinkerfugue and somehow being still understandable at such a low level, and not that the STC/idiot proof blueprint instruction is part of the process.

As soon as they figure that one out we are never leaving PRT 'employment'

I am pretty sure they will even consider having us wear a KBC vest. (Kill Before Capture), as the one who gets a tinker that can pump out designs that don't need a tinker to handhold the plebs in producing or manufacturing can create a ton of tinkertech soldiers.

So yeah, we are in String Theory level of type of treatment once they figure out how our tinker powers tick.

Thus if we want to leave we are on the clock.

Leviathan would probably be a good point to just fuck off and fake our death, then dip into biotech and alter our DNA/RNA and any other identifying features, as well as uploading our blueprints on the net as the final fuck you to the PRT/Gift to the world when we 'die', so anyone will use our current deathray gun and multitool, and any other stuff we can not hide/ have to make.

So think impractical over-expensive boondoggle that are only good as a one off prototype, or fancy modification on existing shit, that one could do without and is only nice to have.

Or something so basic to our work that we want to proliferate a lot so we can use as components or precursors, when we return with a new name and face.

Finishing your meal, you place the dirty plate away from your keyboard. Luckily, after getting questioned endlessly by those nosy researchers you managed to not only leave by yourself but bring food along on the way back to your... Apartment? Living Quarters? Regardless of the proper term, you've managed to secure yourself some personal time. Sadly, you have to wait a day for your order of materials to come through, so you can't tinker.

We could try building a blueprint in our mind and try to memorize it.

Don't think so, but a cyber surgery to get us one might just be the trick to do.

If we could get Panacea to install it by say making some med gear that saves enough hours and stipulate a exchange for her time, slot in a vacation before the procedure to get her to 100%

That would be just the thing we might need to allow us to decide what we take as our private property when we leave.

That would be a thing to do. Win-win for all involved and a nice future loss for the PRT.

But for now I say we hard ball it and train our mind. To design and memorize and then recall. Twice the dice rolls to get right for the same design but greater security. Until we get a perfect memory solution and advanced recall.
>>
>>3318336
If we know some basic biotinkering and research some cybernetics i'm sure we could just put a chip in our head that interfaces with our brain and gives us perfect memory
>>
>>3318354
what's with the reddit double space posting?

>If we could get Panacea to install it
I have my doubts that Panacea would help with such a delicate procedure what with how afraid she is of performing any kind of surgery relating to anyone's brain.

>>3318364
Here's hoping we are able to perform some biotinkering. Also a shame the PRT will get the intellectual property of our designs.
>>
>>3318354
>If we could get Panacea to install it
Theres the problem Panace can interact with brains just fine, but she doesn't do it because she doesn't trust herself with said power and personally i think she was right knowing what she did to her sister in cannon
>>
>>3318370
>>3318371
No need to interact with the brain, just plug the cyberware in.

Panacea implantation surgery would require no post-op, leave no scars and risk no complications.

Basically contract her for getting the cyberware to say, the brainstem and have a automated hookup at the plug-in to have no need for any parahuman power or doc to fiddle with it.
>>
>>3319742
>No need to interact with the brain
> the brainstem
Anything related to the mind or memorization will be part of the brain bucko, and Panacea is strongly against all brain related activity.

>just plug the cyberware in.
Like into a power outlet?
>>
>>3319758
What, you mean you don't have a brainware socket? What rock have you been living under?
>>
>>3319758
Its going to need some fancy control to go in our brain, but if we have our brainscanes we could program in a hookup.

Placing it in the brain would be way to risky if it gets jostled by trauma. under the brainpan, hooked to the stem and then burrowing up with very well guided mobile extending wire tubes would be a lot safer, especially if they have a hardness and density in the same weight class as the rest of the brain components.

Panacea could suppress any pain issue and we could guide it in, supervised by a neurosurgeon of course, so we have someone to quiz about any irregularities that might happen and panacea would be uncomfortable messing with.

without some very very fancy miniaturized technology like micro or nanobots i am not all that keen on going for a hard implant in the brain, since the only option would be a net right over or perhaps under the dura mater. but that shit is imho way to risky with us as a testcase.

Way more comfy with a hardcase box right under the brainpan with tubes through the stem.
>>
>>3319758
>>3319897
Let's do a LOT of experimenting on animals and people nobody will miss before we touch ourself. Hermann needs to level up biotinkering or he'll get a rusty, explosive, seizure-inducing implant in his brain.

>Degenerative neurological disorders like Ashkenazim

>>
>>3318336
>Does Hermann have photographic memory?
Technically, no. While he DOES have improved memory, it's not good enough to be classed as Photographic

While I'm here, I've decided to explain blueprints a bit more clearly.
A normal person couldn't copy what you've made/written, although if they were an expert in their field and the device was in that field, they'd have a 1/1000 chance of getting it right. Most, if not all tinkers could more or less reconstruct what you've done if given the blueprints, although how successful they would be depends on their field.

Anyhow, resuming writing

After a minute or two of quiet thinking, you decide it's smarter to try exploring your new home. Grabbing a leather jacket, you leave your room slightly optimistic.

Starting from the very top, you climb up some annoyingly high stairs until you reach a mundane looking door. Opening it up, you find a helipad...? Cautiously, you crouch down near one of the edges and try taking it all in. Looking down, you can feel yourself sweating when there's a large distance between you and the floor. Changing your glance, you stare at the coastline with a bittersweet smile. You remember being pretty awed by the rig in your early years. You could say, for better or worse, you're living the dream life. Snorting, you lazily get up, didn't you come here to explore...?

Walking back down, you opt to give the entire building a quick look. There is, of course, the 'apartments' around your floor. surprisingly, however, there's more to it than meets the eye. Snooping around, you notice a few things. First off, a completely unremarkable classroom lies between a few offices. Peering in, you see something more akin to a university class design wise. Poking your head around, you see several chaotic offices packed with stress-filled middle-aged workers.

Moving down a floor, you think you find the proper 'training' area. There's a traditional firing range, coupled with a manned armory. The quartermaster in question gives you really disapproving look as he notices you wandering about, reacting, you awkwardly leave his sight slightly flustered.

Casually walking back up, you're abruptly stopped by two lone guards.

"A certain someone from Watchdog would like to speak with you, Mr. Schmidt."

Instantly, your mind begins to panic. Gaining Watchdog's attention is a pretty bad thing from what you can imagine, don't they deal with politics and masterminds...?

"Uh... why...?"

"We can't go into the details, but let's just say we believe you might hold valuable information. Additionally, this is not mandatory. But, if you scratch our backs, we may scratch yours, if you catch our drift."

Because despite the meme of destroying the PRT from within, what most people forget is that getting close with them is a two-way street. With repeated interactions the character will inevitably start bonding with the enemy to the point where they'll no longer be considered an enemy in the characters mind. Same thing happens with the player base.

To cut it short, I want as few interactions as possible with them, do our job, get out, and unleash our UBER-TECH to demolish them.
>>
>>3322787
But I like the PRT and the E88 are fucking retards and are also doomed to fail.

Pretty much this, Hermann is a somewhat of a /pol/ac but he still has empathy, and no matter how shit are the people of the PRT they are still people and we don't want hermann or the playerbase to empatize too much with them and start seeing some of the heroes as bros or Dice forbid, the female heroes as potential love interests/waifus

Jesus calm down, I'm just saying in universe the E88 is doomed to fail because Kaiser dies in like
what
two weeks, and we're in no position to help him outside of using meta knowledge
PRT are incompetent.
Perhaps I should have said I like some of the people who work for them.
I'd much rather start an independent faction.
>>
>>3322795
Thats the problem with cape intrigue, too much shit people and masterminds in the background, the Triumvirate we could deal with appealing to their superiors, by figuratively selling our soul to cauldron by demostrating that we are an irregular cape, aka a cape with less restrictions than others and we could deal with Dragon simply by buying the Dragonslayers services like tattletale did in cannon
>>
>>3322829
Sorry.
>>
>>3322829
E88 is probably still our best option. Ideologically they line right up with Hermann, and they have the numbers and resources (for now) to help him achieve his goal of building a Nazi moon colony or whatever. Possibly a mars colony.
>>
>>3322765
I want to do it later, and that's a shit deal, do this for us, and we MIGHT reciprocate. Yeah its like saying give me 5 bucks now, and I MAY give you 5 bucks worth of candy later.

>>
>>3322857
Right? I’m not even sure what Hermann could possibly know that they would want. And I’m skeptical of the vague offer. If they want anything from Hermann they better come in with something concrete. Preferably notarized and in writing.
>>
>>3322829
In my opinion we should unite with the purity faction after the fall of E88 tough that will bring his own problems, principally because fog and night are agents of Gesellschaft , i like the Fenrir sons because they are somewhat strong but they also are a perfect example of how the world sees Nazis and white supremasists, a bunch of Blood knights and psychotic battle junkies with a deep seated hatred and disdain for those that arent part of the supreme master race

Think of what they could be and what they could accomplish with Hermann guiding them. Whether steering Kaiser from an advisory role and staying out of the spotlight, or as the outright leader.
>>
>>3322880
Some anons wanted to have power armor already built or something to prove to the E88 that we weren’t scrubs and shit. IDK why that’s a big deal, the E88 would LOVE to have a tinker, especially one like Hermann.
>>
>>3322876
Yeah but most of the problem stems from the fact that at least in cannon they aren't a bunch of angry and dangerous national socialists but a bunch of cartoon-like nazis, with everything bad (((they))) say being mostly true atleast cannonically, so unless Akire makes them less
crazy supervillain-like i don't want to interact with them
>>
>>3322894
well the canon story was written by the author by the eyes of Taylor ( (( they)) may have poisoned her views on the world)
is Herbert one of (((them)))
>>
>>3322905
maybe just maybe she wasn't the reliable narrator she seems like
>>
>>3322894
In canon we only know E88 from Taylor's skewed perspective and the interlude from Purity, and later one from Theo. Theo's only touched upon E88 tangentially.

All three had extreme biases and are far from reliable. We never saw what the e88 capes talked about when they planned their side of the war and let's be honest, every time Taylor confronted someone capes went apeshit because holy shit spiders and cockroaches crawling into your lungs is fucking nasty. Plus whenever they did something, it was them against the world, it's not surprising that they'd go to extreme lengths to win their battles.

Their actual philosophy and thought process were never touched upon, probably because wildbow didn't want to alienate his socjus audience by having nazis as anything other than crazy, mouthbreathing antagonists. Purity got a pass because she got woke and only cared about her itty bitty baby and Theo got a pass because he had an identity crisis and ended up on the right side of history.
>>
>>3322958
I think the main problem stems from the fact that wildbow didn't want to alienate his audience as you said or bring hate to his history by adding sympatetic natsoc's, he also said in a comment to anybody that want's to start a story to avoid politics and religion like the fire, so thats why the political aspects of the story revolves more around cape-politics than cape affected politics, also if we follow an unaltered cannon with hermann as the only foreing insert, in the Number Man interlude Gesellschaft was said to do shaddy dealing with arms dealers, specifically nuclear materials and in his interlude Crusader refered to them as a Neo-Nazi organization, and seing their wiki entry i think we can acertain that they are indeed neo nazis villains and not National Socialists Rogue-villains

It was posted somewhere, but in cannon all tinkers except Masamune(because that's his speciality) can't mass produce their devices or make space-faring tinker veicles/devices, this is principaly a safeward made by the entities to prevent the shard holders to travel to a non-observable or otherwise inacsesible distance from earth, also im not too sure but i think after a certain distance from the planet earth the shards stop working

We could put this to the test and build some sort of super Railgun (or that MAC cannon thing in Halo) and try firing a drone to the moon.

>>3323153
what were sphere/manequin's plans though?
>>
>>3323157
From the wiki:

He gained fame and attention as his power allowed to take up "a project to build self sustaining biospheres on the moon." It is stated that "he had ideas on solving world hunger, and building aquatic cities near cities plagued by overcrowding." Sphere was attempting to get all of that off the ground when The Simurgh attacked the site he was living in.

In the Simurgh attack, his wife and childred were killed, and the years of work he'd done to help fix the problems of the world were ruined. Alan went mad and shut himself off from the world.Literally. Sphere withdrew, crafting a self-contained ecosystem in which he could survive indefinitely, untouchable, unreachable and safe. Sphere emerged under the new name of 'Mannequin'.

This is basically his story up to how he became the derranged serial killer Mannequin
>>
>>3323178
I wonder how Mannequin in the Wendigo quest is taking it after killing the Simurph.
>>
>>3323157
About the satelite idea idk, Tinkers have more in common with artificing mages, than the standar gadgeter genius of super-hero story's, they are in fact low-key reality warpers that imbue pasively some type of energy in their tech and thats why they have do constant maintenance to their tech despite the logic saying that it shouldn't that hard for tinkers to make self-sustaining/self-repairing devices
>>
>>3323183
Maybe jack killed him due to a emotional breakdown that made him more a liability than an asset
>>
>>3323143
We have the ability to make blueprints. Does that mean our tech is also replicable as long the blueprints exist?
>>
>>3323374
Yes, but only by other tinkers and with a tiny chance by experts in that field of creation
>>
>>3323374
>>3323377
>A normal person couldn't copy what you've made/written, although if they were an expert in their field and the device was in that field, they'd have a 1/1000 chance of getting it right. Most, if not all tinkers could more or less reconstruct what you've done if given the blueprints, although how successful they would be depends on their field.

>>3323565

>>
>>3323497
>>3323553
Sure, he won't be the best. But I'm thinking this; He was alive and making things before capeshit even happened, and he's booty blasted about these bitch ass capes who put in no effort but attained technical competency higher than he could ever hope for, so he becomes a street level vigilante to show he can compete. He's so intelligent and talented that PRT gives him a Tinker 1 or 2 rating, thinking he has powers.
Is it Mary Sue? Yes, but not any more so than, say, wendigo quest. I might actually start this quest, the more that I think about it...
>>
>>3323600
Another idea is making it similar to an XCOM quest where you are the head of the R&D department and your job is to reverse engineer Tinker Tech. Of course, with 1/1000 odds of deciphering it, you'll need many, MANY scientists/engineers and high dice rolls to succeed.
>>
>>3323497
>>3323600
I would like a quest or atleast a story where the MC is in a world with tinkers, gadgeters and shit and hes just some inteligent and perceptive dude and it would be pretty cool if he just used what's avaible to him atm to find how to best munchick powers using comon sense, some Normie science, scaners and detection type supers with repeated testing, basically being a open-minded scientist using the 'if it works don't question too much' approach to reach his own goals

>>
Hmmmmm, what about a non-cape genius human successfully creating a functioning AI which then can snowball because "no shard restrictions fuck you"?
Have the AI do the brunt of the thinking.
>>
>>3323681
It could be interesting but i feel that the medieval stasis effect is somehow working in worm, basically Tinkers are so good at making ''Tech'' that it discourages non-tinker tech development, because people with money are more willing to pay for research in quick short therm Magi-tech devices than waiting years for a possible technological breakthrough, theres also the fact than in the story theres Contessa, that could shut down any malevolent AI development or creation process easly and also some people are a little worried of what a tinker could gleam from some experimental or dangerous reasearch if he ever get's his hands in it
>>
>>3323701
I just think the idea of creating an AI that exponentially grows in intelligence as a true unrestricted AI would do would be fun.
>Entities get taken down not by superpowers or bullshit magitech they hand out but because an incredibly buttmad IT technician successfully creates his own AI without using their shard bullshit
Also the AI doesn't necessarily have to be malevolent.
>>
>>3323630
I don't think I'd know how to run that.
>>3323635
That's what I'm thinking.

Rolling 3d40s with crits on 1, we have a 91.9747% chance of avoiding a crit. That is to say that 8% of the time we will crit fail. Although this isn't taking bonuses or 20s over 1s into account or anything so it's probably closer to 3% or there abouts.

Changing your thoughts to the most obvious, important device you lay the multi-tool on a proper workbench. Grabbing a few tools (Ironic, you know) from wherever Chris tossed them, you start improving the device.

>Nat 1

For whatever reason, you think the best way to start off would be to disassemble the tool itself and modify the parts directly. After a few screws are loosened you start fiddling around with the inner working of the machine for a good hour or so.

Assembling it back together again you start testing it out before it crumbles together in a spectacular fashion. Starting at the random pieces of machinery, you're honestly left broken. Not again...

Picking up the salvageable pieces, you try your damndest to reconstruct the bloody thing. There's just one, tiny, minuscule problem however, it's not working! You... just can't! Whenever you try to piece the machine back again, you're just left absentminded! What the hell is going on!?

>Multitool Lost. Will require Efficiency, Tier 2 to remake

Despairing, you stare down the pieces of scrap that was once your precious tool.

Actually, changing vote to asking if they can bring out our exo-suit so we can continue working on it. If we don't have the current schematics of the exo-suit as it is now then I'd like it if we could do that, then make a duplicate and try to work out where to carefully apply armor to it's frame and possibly make it air tight so it's immune to air born chemicals and diseases.

All complete theorized on paper instead of working on it. That way if we crit fail we wont ruin the device, and if we succeed on the schematic it might be easier and faster for us to rebuild it in the future. Win Win.

Anyone got a list of tinker ideas that are "safe" while we're in the PRT?
>>
>>3325700
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJPWBRh2JTk
Slapping yourself out of your despair induced idleness, you chastise yourself for this pathetic display. You're a goddamn tinker! Of course there's going to be a little failure here or there, but that's no excuse for floundering around like a moody teenager!

Pacing around the workshop, you consider some ideas for a mask. There's the big restriction of the PRT saying 'no' if you create something edgy, which stifles your creativity to a certain extent.

Pondering the dilemma, you're suddenly hit with an idea. Theoretically, of course, if you just paint the mask to look 'heroic' like, you can more or less get away with anything right?

On the subject of masks (late enough, you know) you eventually settle on a gas mask like design, styled into a helmet.

>15, not bad

After a few hours or so of peaceful tinkering, you're left marginally content. The mask itself is more or less complete, ignoring a colorful paint job that'll you leave to the professionals.

The features are, admittedly a bit bare bones. The gas mask part assumedly works fine, you've installed some modified lenses around the eyeholes, and you've modeled the outer shape into some decent, layered protection. From an estimate, it probably blocks pistol shots, but anything higher caliber will at least put a dent in.

Listen up, guys, we are a thinker that has, for all extents and purposes, unlimited powers. (Unless Akire has some sort of surprise for us).
Let us make up fake limitations so the PRT believes we're not worth their time, and gives us some leeway.
Someone mentioned something about only being able to upgrade something once. That is a massive crippling limitation and we should say that until they leave us mostly alone.
We should upgrade our stuff, but covertly and always backed up by some useless trinket we can say the materials went in.
If we reveal we have no particular weaknesses, we'd be painting the biggest target in the Worm universe right on our backs, while being under PRT custody. They'd NEVER let us out, not even for a smoking break.

Storming out the workshop in a manic fashion, you sprint down the stairs rather recklessly. Protection is a rather key element, and why not ask your rather generous... employers for a little framework? You've seen their guys wear some kind of kevlar vests in the past.

Finally reaching the armory, the old, senile quartermaster still gives you a strict, uncaring stare as you boldly approach him.

"Excuse me. Is there a way to request certain items for... tinkering uses?"

The man's frown intensifies the more you speak, after a few tense, awkward moments he finally responds.

"Fill out this form."

Offering you some pen and paper, you begin the process of filling in the annoying paperwork.

Is the item(s) you've requested dangerous, in any way or form? No, it's a goddamn vest!

Can the item(s) you've requested be used as a weapon? No!

After a dozen or so more questions, you finally finish the bureaucratic process. Handing it back towards the still glaring quartermaster, you finally get what you're looking for.

"Take it *Grumble* and leave my damn sight already."

Consenting, you yank the black, heavy kevlar vest away and start walking back.

Finally reaching the workshop, you start messing around with the design. Hopefully, you should have some decent luck...

>11, bare success

Staring at your heavy creation, you're left a bit... disappointed? Unimpressed? You managed to reinforce the damn thing with a collection of tiny, wired metals. But... there's something it's lacking in your honest opinion

Donning it, you're almost left breathless by how heavy the thing is. Testing it, you begin slowly moving around to get a general feel for it. You guess that it almost certainly protect you from any kind of bullets or knives at the cost of speed.

Meeting

Piggot, as always, stayed firmly on her chair, making direct eye contact with the duo. At her command, she seemed to unleash an aggressive aura that would intimate anyone in the general area. Unsurprisingly, Assault was still reeling back from this. He never had a good relationship with the woman and had almost despised her at certain points of his career.

Miss Militia, on the other hand, was unphased. Sternly, she returned her gaze. Unlike the vast majority of her co-workers, she had a mutual understanding with the Director. While she did disagree on certain parts of her philosophy, they had a unique common ground.

"Assault, Miss Militia, I thank the both of you for coming on such... short notice. Regardless, I'd like to discuss a matter involving our new recruit 'Monte-Cristo'."

"Mont-Ah, I get it. That's his new cape name, right?"

"Correct, in particular, there are two reports I'd like you to read before continuing this meeting."

Pushing the paperwork at the opposite end of her desk, the two heroes cautiously began reading

"The first document is some standard, parahuman testing. The key detail is located at the bottom, as you'll find out."

"'Meanwhile, Eleventh Hour had given him a 7'. Is this supposed to mean something?"

"In this case, Assault, yes. We'd expected a 3-5, not a 7. 7s and 8s are usually A-class threats, meanwhile, 9-10 are S-class."

"I still don't understand why this is a big deal. So what? He might have a decently strong tinker power, but if that means anything, that's a good thing. We have him on our side now."

"Partly correct, I must agree, but there's still the small chance he attempts to escape our hold. And if he succeeds, well... who knows what damage he might inflict. I can imagine he holds a few grudges, at the very least."
>>
>>3331504
Assault's expression slowly clouded as he listened to Piggot's reply.

"That's where you two come in, build a rapport with him. Make him socialize with the team, that kind of thing. Try to have him integrate as best as possible. This includes the Armsmaster/Aegis situation, the last thing we want is another fight between them."

The duo reluctantly nodded along.

"On the other matter at hand, as you'll see there's some... intriguing elements that have been added to this situation."

"'Watchdog'... Hm... why is the cape unnamed?"

"Let's just say... he's fussy with names. In any case, let me assure you this man knows what's he doing. He managed to beat Accord, after all."

"So we're supposed to co-operate in any way we can, right?"

"Yes, unless he proposes to do something dangerous, I ask that you do as he says. Their base of operations will be on the floor where we contain our specialized cells. I ask that you not utter a word of this to anyone with my, or their permission."

"Understood, Ma'am."

"Good, while we're here I may as well get this last thing sorted. Miss Militia, Assault, I appoint you as temporary co-leaders. You will assume the same roles as Armsmaster did until I sort out a proper replacement. Don't disappoint me."

This just means we have to be extra careful in our attempts to escape. Extra efficient and thorough in our planning. Pretend to play along, let them think we’ve given up on escape and let go of our grudge. And then betray them at the best possible timing.
>>
>>3331519
I say we pretend to let our grudge fade over time and then after a few months we seem like we gave up on it entirely.

Of course this isn't good enough! Your name's goddamn Hermann Schmidt, the man who kicked Aegis and Armsmaster's ass! This isn't worthy to be called one of your genius creations! Laughing at your own pathetic defeatism, you practically throw the heavy vest onto the nearby workbench like it was nothing.

Scrounging up any tools you can find, you start madly tinkering on the kevlar vast with renewed vigor.

>20 <GOOD!>

Letting out a prideful smile, you state at your fruits of labor. The vest itself looks completely different from before, with minor mechanical 'supports' resting on the arm/waist portion.

Wearing it, you have a completely altered experience with your newfound armor. You can barely feel a thing as you (carefully) sprint around the messy workshop. Chuckling, you can barely believe the difference.

>Weightless Kevlar Vest (Tier 3, low) Gained! -10% to all damage. No penalties at all.

>4/10 of the way to efficiency, tier 2
>2/15 of the way to engineering, tier 3

After sending the helmet and vest away for testing, you're about to continue on some other project before hearing a knocking on the workshop's steel door.

Checking it out, you're met with the same old Assault.

"Uh... hey, what is it?"

"It's nearly time we introduce you to the other protectorate heroes, you did receive a text about that, right?"

Checking your phone, it turns out you did... seven hours ago.

"Guess I forgot, hard at work you see. Did the PR guys sort out a costume?"

"Yeah, they mailed it to your apartment."

Sighing, Assault motions for you to get ready. Awkwardly complying, you start rushing towards your living quarters. You just realize you're covered in sweat and whatever else that's soaked your clothes.

Barging inside, you messily destroy the cardboard box containing your newly made suit.

Checking it out, it's... more or less what you wanted. Sadly, however, they've decided to dye the collar blue. Furthermore, they added a Protectorate symbol on the back. Frowning, you don the outfit.

Leaving and locking the room, you see Assault leaning against the wall, assumedly waiting for you.

"Nice, you don't look half bad honestly. Let's get going, we're already late."

Following along, Assault leads you through a few of the upper floors before finally stopping outside a room labeled 'Headquarters'

"This is where you'll go to prepare for patrols and the like, I'd advise you remember the route."

Nodding, you try to prepare yourself mentally. The last thing you want is to act like a moron in front of everyone. Opening the obnoxiously gray door, you're met with several vaguely familiar figures. Battery wore her skintight white grey costume that had cobalt blue lines inserted on the design. She had seated herself casually on a wooden table.

Triumph and Velocity both leaned against a nearby wall. The former had a golden gladiator/lion theme to his costume. Meanwhile, the latter sported a red uniform, with racing stripes meeting in a 'V" on his chest.

Dauntless donned a familiar gold and white greek inspired costume. Beneath his spartan like helmet, you can vaguely guess that he remembered you from his shifting eyes. Reeling back, you turn to face Miss Militia, who had sat alongside Battery in her usual cape clothing.

"We've finally arrived! I apologize for our lateness, but our new co-worker here was a bit busy. Please welcome, Monte Cristo!"

Motioning for you to introduce yourself, you decide to...

Clearing your throat, you decide to go for the cold, 'polite' route.

"Hello, My name is Monte-Cristo, the newest enslaved member of the PRT. A pleasure"

Instantly, you see the room's atmosphere shift. Everyone awkwardly stares at you, and you see Assault's and Miss Militia's expression shift unexpectedly.

"Can you repeat that? I think I misheard."

Answering Triumph's question, you repeat what you just said in a deadpan voice.

"My Name is Monte-Cristo, the newest enslaved member of the PRT."

Again, the room's mood shifts dramatically once again. You hear Assault sigh deeply, and Miss Militia just looks pissed off.

Desperately trying to change the subject, Velocity tries to soothe things down

"So what's your power?"

"Tinker"

"Uhh... what about your specialty?"

"No idea."

Again, the room remains tensely quiet.

"Am I free to go now?"

"...Sure."

Leaving, you slam the door behind you.

Your name is Dauntless, and what you've just seen rivals Armmaster in social ineptness.

Cycling through your memories, you finally realize why he looked vaguely familiar. He was that manager of that scrapyard... right? Processing the facts, you slowly begin understanding that he wasn't JUST a manager.

"Jesus Christ, we have an Armsmaster 2.0 on our hands."

Responding to Velocity, Assault tries to defend the man.

"Listen, I apologize to everyone here, but let's just say he has his own messy past, as the rest of us do."

"That wasn't just messy, that was downright insulting, Assault. I've seen Shadow Stalker act more friendly than whatever the hell that was."

"Sadly, I have to agree with Triumph. That completely and utterly rude, we CAN't let that slide."

Miss Militia unusually had a slight tinge of anger in her voice that even you could notice.

Shaking your head, you let a crude frown That was one hell of an introduction, the most unusual one in any case.

Armsmaster's day off

Scrounging through the 7/11, you realize how long it's been since you went properly shopping.

A father that never cared, A mother that dreamed of everything but you

Throwing some random junk food into a cart, you notice all the unrecognizable brands. What happened to the food from your generation? Did they disappear?

You had no-one, even from the very beginning you were always the 'odd' kid. When you became a teenager, you started being proud of it. Pride over isolation of all things, it was an ironic coping mechanism.

Moving towards the self-checkout till you find yourself fighting against the shoddy scanner. Tch, you could easily make this work instantly.

But it eventually stopped working, and you were filled with an inescapable void. In retaliation, you began removing all the 'little' things that people would attach to their home. The roots, as you may call them.

Taking out a bank card, you wait a few tedious seconds for the reader to process your information.

You had been so efficient in cutting yourself off from real connections, real people, real... friends that you were truly alone. Every day you would wander around aimlessly, rotting away in self-inflicted solitude. It hurt, in a way no person should ever feel.

Walking outside, bags in hand you enjoy the sight of a crimson sun-set slowly fading away from the city. Seating yourself on an old, public seat you began eating a cheese and ham sandwich.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, you hear your phone ringing. Taking it out, you see it's... Dragon.

"Um... Hello Colin"

"Greetings... why did you call?"

"I... uh... wanted to check up on you. I know you're a workaholic, so I'd imagined you've been bored these past days."

"Yeah... I've been bored out of my mind. I tried watching those movies you recommend me, and even that couldn't stave it off. I tried watching some random TV channels and it was aw-"

Yet now you feel incredibly peaceful. Connection, is this the real thing you've been lacking all these years? Someone to lean on, laugh with, talk with. Despite everything that's happened, you... smile.

Hermann spends years working with the PRT over the years after his probation.
Over the years spent with the PRT he somehow replicated Fletchette ability into his tinker tech. Combined with his natural tinker specialty learning he mass produced weapons capable of killing Endbringers. His weapons gave him massive support of the world, some calling him the pioneer of a new era. With this popular support he easily worms in every country of the world owning a grand total of 30 percent of the world nations. We execute order 66 and have our loyals annihilate the enemy. The enemies weapons will not work because we have disabled them beforehand. We steamroll world nations with our cape killing weapons, military and cape powers. WE ARE THE REPUBLIC.

14 days until ???

1st May, 2011

Waking up, you reenact the usual mundane morning routines. Luckily, no one's bothered you since yesterday. Checking your phone, you find three text messages

*Class on Arresting Procedure at 15:00, this IS mandatory*

*Mandatory therapist session at 18:20*

*Your first patrol will start at 20:15, DO NOT be late.*

Frowning, it looks like your schedule will be rather busy. Eh, whatever you should still have some good chunk of time to tinker. Making a quick stop to the cafeteria to steal some food, you walk back to the workshop in a thoughtful mood.

Finally arriving there, you find your Helmet and vest returned in... evidence bags? Regardless, you find a short note saying.

'These items have been approved for use.'

Examining the helmet, you find they've painted the entire thing blue. Not what you would have done, but whatever.

Checking the time, you realize that you have good 5-6 hours to tinker. The question is, of course, what? You've been surprisingly neglectful of making any real weapons, or any real gadgets for that matter. Hm, what to do...

Out of nowhere, you suddenly get an idea. Traditional melee weapons won't get past the dreaded PR department, so... what about something a bit more blunt? That's when it hits, a whip! While you're at it, why don't you include a little more 'power' to it?

After a little more pondering, you finally more or less have an idea for what you're going for. Let's just hope you don't fuck up...

>Rolled 13, Mediocre success

Rubbing the sweat off your forehead, you congratulate yourself for finally finishing it. Frustratingly, it took much longer than you thought it would due to you figuring out the design on the go.

Grabbing the steel handle, you start swinging the whip around randomly. Unsurprisingly, it's going to take a while to get used to the finer touches of the weapon. Flipping the switch, you see the whip come alive with blue sparks. It's just a glorified taser... right?

>The Count's Whip gained! (Tier 2, High)
> Engineering to tier 3, 3/15
>Melee Weapon to tier 1, 1/5

Checking the time, you realize it's nearly for that damn lesson. Frowning, you send your new tinker-gear away for testing before walking towards that university-like classroom you checked out earlier.

Walking inside you're greeted by a middle-aged bald man standing in front of a seated crowd of differing men and women.

Sitting down quietly, you try to calm your nerves. 'Arresting procedure' was it? Letting out a wry smirk, you try to listen in.

Containing yourself, you manage to more or less listen and understand what you're tutor's saying. Today, they went over arresting non-cape's, which was pretty straightforward. Hand-cuffs, telling them their rights, that sort of thing. You get a bit hazy when he explains all the legal jargon, but you kinda have a basic understanding of it all once he finally shuts up.

After the lesson finishes, you realize that it's nearly time for a therapist to knock around your mind. Sighing, you message the 'help' number that was already on your phone to ask for directions. After a few frustrating minutes, you manage to find the reception for this kind of thing. Walking up to an old lady, who is sitting rather carefreely behind an old, wooden desk.

"Excuse me... I believe I've been put down for a session?"

"Ah, yes, yes, your name?"

"Hermann Schmidt."

Checking some kind of registry, the cheery old women begins nodding

"Indeed, you're down for a session with... Jamey Reece. I'll send for him, feel free to enter Room #3."

Agreeing, you find the name 'Reece' vaguely recognizable. It's probably nothing, right? Entering the room labeled #3, you sit down on a rather comfy looking sofa as you wait for the therapist.

Surprisingly, however, one of the Parahuman researches from before enters inside.

"Uh, I think you entered the wrong room."

Smirking, he sits down opposite to you in a rather polite manner. Donning a pure white lab-coat, with round, circular glasses he turns to face you directly. His messy, brown hair immediately stands out as you look at him closely.

"Besides my other job, I work here as a therapist. My name is Jamey Reece, in case you'd forgotten."

"Tch, whatever. How long do I have to stay here? I'm not a fan of people trying to figure me out like I'm some kind of puzzle."

"I... can't exactly disagree with you on that front. Many therapists pretend that they aren't delving into the minds of their patients, but it's ultimately what we do. Regardless if it's a good or bad thing."

"Anyway, why don't I let you lead the conversation? Instead of me probing you with questions, how about you start with whatever you're comfortable with?"

"...Hm?"

"It's doesn't have to be anything heavy, or important really. I'm not going to ask for you to explain your trigger event, or why you did what you did."

"Before I begin saying anything, how was your childhood?"

"My childhood? Hm, normal. I grew up shortly before powers 'happened', mainly around the 70s. Why?"

"No reason... see, my childhood was centered around the late 80s and 90s. Ever heard of Winslow?"

"Partially, although I must confess it was just through rumors."

"Well, let me tell you now, most of what they is true. The school and everything near it is the definition of rough."

"I...can't relate. I was brought up in a traditional middle-class family."

"Well let me tell you now-"

///////////////////////////////////
13th September, 1993
20:48

Alone, even at night you patiently wait for your grandfather to return home. It wasn't unusual for him to be away hours on end. Apparently, work at the docks slowly became less and less lucrative to the point he had to take two jobs just to pay the bills.

Occasionally, a neighbor or two would volunteer to babysit, although they were becoming increasingly rare. It seemed like everyone was hurt economically recently, causing them to focus on themselves. That never bothered you, though.

Searching through the cupboards you can reach, all you find is canned food. Sighing, you roll back onto your wooden bed. Attempting to hide from the icy cold temperature inside, you wrap yourself inside the crude covers.

A long time after you've fallen asleep, your grandfather finally arrives home, and, after seeing the sight of you soundly dreaming away, he cracks a wry smile.

//////////////////////////////
"Hm..."

"What?"

"This may be a sensitive question, but... what about your parents?"

"Dead before I even turned one, supposedly. My gramps rarely, if ever talked about it. Whenever I mentioned the subject, he'd get really upset."

You see a flicker of emotion appear on Reece's face, but it disappears as quickly as it came.

"...Fair enough. I think this concludes today's session. It was nice talking to you, Mr. Schmidt. I hope we can get along in the future."

Nodding, you hastily walk out the room and reception onto the main floor. Checking the time, you realize it's nearly time for that patrol. Frowning, you dash around all over the place to get your equipment in order. Luckily, it seems they finished testing your new weapon rather quickly. Donning your vest, helmet, and lab-coat you look yourself in the mirror. To your surprise, the deep, blue color creates a half-decent aesthetic similar to Armsmaster's.

Walking towards headquarters, you open the door and see...

1= Assault
2= Miss Militia
3=Velocity
4=Triumph
5=Dauntless
6=Battery

Roll me 1d6, the third roll decides it all.

Man, the dice gods really do work in mysterious ways.
>>
>>3337450
I'm not sorry. It'll be fun to see how Dauntless tries to get over that introduction.

Bonus points if Hermann just waves the armband instead of answering questions
>>
>>3337473
At some point we should do that.
>>
>>3337487
I'll give it a week before we need to start acting like an adult and try to make allies that are loyal to us

It's petty and funny but harming us in the long run but it's important that we make a show of being displeased but getting over it.
>>
>>3337514
So long as that is the point and not a continual childish resistance in the most meek and inept way possible, I can roll with that.
>>
>>3337514
Maybe we do it just once during our conversation with Dauntless, then we wisen up.
>>
>>3337529
I dunno about the other guys here but my goal is to make allies or at least subvert a hero or two, escape after leviathan and usurp the empire and lead them to greatness.
>>
>>3337537
I just want to bro it up with Armsy and Assault desu

I know people like to shit on the guy, but I honestly like him the most out of all Worm character's, dunno why.
>>
>>3337537
I'm fine with making a show of "getting over our grudge", I think I made a similar suggestion last thread. Which hero's do you think we have the best chance of subverting or turning to our side?

Would we still join E88 afterwards or try and form our own faction?
>>
>>3337560
Assault yes, Arms no. I'd rather go with the edgy Shadow Stalker then Arms.
>>
>>3337569
Taking over an established faction is best if feasible, they split into the Pure and the Chosen after Kaiser bites it. If we can get in and consolidate before they split we'll have a pre-established power base. Otherwise we'll have to contend with both factions to recruit members.

>>3337560
Armsy is hella gay but Defiant is awesome. Assault and Battery are great.

People shit on him for being a glory-obsessed sperg. He has:
>Caused a new cape (Taylor) to become a villain by being a sperg
>Risked killing heroes during the Leviathan fight so he could get a shot that ultimately wouldn't have worked
>Unmasked a cape (Taylor again) during her civilian hours by trying to capture her, which is never done because it could push villains to extreme behaviour that could endanger a lot of people, and he did it in a school full of defenceless people in top of that
Among other things.
>>
>>3339443
Those flaws just make him a more interesting character. Yep.
Jokes aside I still like him.
>>
>>3339443
That last one was Taggs fault iirc, Dragon and Defiant (Arms cape name at that point in the series) were off doing their special ops bullshit and he pulled rank when they stopped in brockton to refuel and told them to go arrest Talyor at school.

Immediately, you see the rising star of Brockton Bay. Donning his usual outfit, you see his shield and spear holstered around his waist. Through his spartan like helmet, you see multiple expressions shift through his face. Fuck, didn't you meet him during... oh... oh god.

Awkwardly, the both of you don't say anything for longer than you'd like to admit. Eventually, however, Dauntless tries to break the ice.

"Nice outfit... it reminds me of Armsmaster's, aesthetically speaking."

Cringing behind your gas mask, you offer him a weak nod.

"So... Hm... this patrol is going to be lead by me. We'll only be walking through Boardwalk today, are you familiar with the place?"

Again, you give him a weak nod.

"In case anything does happen while we're out, I ask you to let me do any actual law enforcement. Understand...?"

"Yes."

Letting out a weak sigh, he motions you to follow. Doing so, he leads you outside. Walking through the force-field bridge, he leads you through night-time Boardwalk. The sun has faded away from the city and small breezes of rain fall upon the city's citizens.

Despite the time, an alarming amount of people shout, wave and take pictures of the two of you as you're wandering around the countless high-class restaurants, fashion retailers and whatever else the rich like to spend their money on.

A few kids even ask for Dauntless's autograph, to which he cheerfully agrees to. Of course, they give you the weird look as you're just quietly waiting for this whole thing to be over with. After sending the kids away, he tries to start a conversation.

"Look, Monte, Let me get this out of the way. I'm not going to pretend to know nor care about your circumstances. If you're curious, I do remember that junkyard incident or whatever, but that's irrelevant. What is relevant, however, is your damn attitude. You can act and be as sulky as you like back at headquarters, but you're in public."

"And in public, you should put all that baggage behind you and act like a damn superhero. There are countless people that need heroes like me, like Assault, like nearly everyone in the Protectorate to keep the peace, keep the image that 'everything is normal', even if it's far from it."

"So get your game together. If not for you, then for the women and children that need it. Understand?"

"Fine... I honestly don't know what came over me back there."

For whatever reason, Dauntless strikes up a relaxed smile.

"Don't worry about it, everyone has their faults, even me. Hell, I've been like that before, although it was over... family issues."

"Thanks... so what's normal around Boardwalk?"

"It's usually pretty quiet, for the most part. Of course, you get the odd incident or two daily, although it's nowhere near as bad compared to other areas."

Nodding along, you find yourself getting more involved with the conversation.

"Should I wave back to people? Talk more? What about signatures?"

"Woah, calm down there. First off, yes you should wave back. Talking is usually fine, although I'd recommend you don't overdo it. Lastly uh... we're technically not allowed to sign stuff mid-patrol, but... what they don't know won't hurt 'em."

Giving off a sheepish smirk, Dauntless and you both continue to chatter well into the night.

"This topic is somewhat sensitive but.. Hm... you should be allowed to know. I'm sure you're familiar with the ABB, right?"

"Yeah... a bit too well if I had to be completely honest."

"I guessed, you see the Protectorate unofficially agreed to a ceasefire with the surrounding gangs and like to combat the ABB after... several alarming incidents."

"'Alarming'?"

"Well... let's just say their sole remaining cape, Bakuda, went down the deep end. Without going into graphic detail, she started placing tinker-bombs on her men to force loyalty and fear."

"Ah..."

"Yep, you can see wh-"

Before Dauntless can finish his sentence, he stops himself after noticing something. Turning to the direction he's looking, you see a hooded male of a large statue pinning someone down a wall inside an alley with a... gun?

"Say... you have a tinker weapon on you, right?"

"Uh, yeah. A whip that's basically just a longer taser."

"Do you think it could do the job? Or do you want me to intervene instead?"

Let Dauntless handle it, he's the experienced one here.

"I think I can handle it, but I'd recommend you remain on standby, this is my first time using the actual thing against other humans."

Taking out the whip in question, you move closer towards the assumed mugging and...

>Rolled Nat 1

Striking out with your weapon, you completely miss your target by an embarrassingly large margin. To add insult to injury, the hooded male notices your presence and aims his weapon towards you. Instinctively, you raise your left arm to cover your face. In retaliation, you pathetically lash out against your opponent and yet you still miss!

Dauntless then launches himself at the shooter with his enhanced speed and flight. Tackling him down the floor, you see him efficiently zap down the thug with his spear.

Before you can even understand what's happening, you find yourself on the floor, facing the dark, gloomy sky. Raising your left arm meekly, you see a... hole splurting out a large amount of blood. Fuck... that hit a major artery, didn't it?

Dauntless, noticing the fact that you're not standing hastily rushes to your location with a worried expression.

And then... you feel it. The weakness, the fogginess comes through your mind, halting you from thinking. Before you can even process what's happening, you lose consciousness.

"FALLEN DRAGON, SURRENDER TO THE GAIJINS, THERE IS NO HOPE!

The lone, brave old man yelled out when no-one would. The rest of the crowd stared in horror. They knew what it meant to disobey her.

The woman behind the mask let out a demonic cackle as she was working on her next monstrosity. The man yielded back, falling onto his bottom as he saw the monster create a new tool of destruction. The walls seemed to bend on a devil's whim, and he let out a shriek of horror.

The captors that fulfilled the creature's demands stood steadfast behind their cold, uncaring masks. They seemed to be, at times, nearly inhuman in their total lack of empathy. Like animals, they only served the needs of their master, everything else was secondary.

Before long, the savage let out a disturbing giggle of satisfaction.

"Put him on the table."

Nodding, her entourage mercilessly restrained him onto a cruel, mechanical table. Screaming, the old man begged for help.
"HEEL-"

His yelping was cut short by a miserable looking gag, the crowd could only look in horror as the fiend brandished a scalpel, accompanied with a contraption that could only be described as inhumane.

Dissecting the man's brain, he let out muffled pleads of mercy. The witch only laughed and intensified her efforts. Before long, the device had been crudely inserted into his eye socket, and was connected by a thin wire to his brain.

Finishing he work, she realized that the man was somehow awake. Despite his torture, he had managed to retain consciousness. Releasing his restraints, she motions for her minions to escort him outside.

Leading him through the 'testing grounds', the demon's lackeys shoved him into a small, man-made pit. Running the opposite direction, they return to their commander's side. Behind them, lays a few dozen women, the elderly and children.

"THE OLD MUST SACRIFICE THEMSELVES FOR THE YOUNG, OR FACE CAUSING THEIR BELOVED OFFSPRING's DEATH!"

Pressing a detonator, the man in front of them combusts into various flames. The women scream the old moan, and the children stare in utter fear.

"ANYONE WHO FLEES, ANYONE WHO BETRAYS MY WISHES WILL DIE IN THE MOST HORRIFIC WAY YOU CAN IMAGINE! THE CHILDREN WILL BE NOT SPARED!"

Fear, that will only be the thing that allows you to lead. By acting like a monster, you gain a form of respect. Oni-Lee is assumedly dead, Lung defeated and captured. The only thing that stands between you and defeat is fear.

If they do not fear you, they will not follow you. Every day, the Empire comes closer and closer to finishing you off for good. You're on the brink, mentally and physically. No matter how many bombs you throw at them, there's always more and less of you.

Clutching your head, you feel your migraine intensify. Ever since you heard that voice, your mind's gone haywire. You can't think clearly... and the stress drives you to your wit's end. How long can you last, hours? Days? Weeks at best?

Tomorrow or the day after will be the breaking point. Either or, that will be your last stand.

Wew lad, that was probably edgy as fuck. Again, I'm sorry if this all seems awkward and such. I'm trying out new things to see what works and what doesn't.
I'll finish the last interlude tomorrow, night everyone

Not everything dark and grim is edgy QM. You did fine.

What if Herman creates a special energy gun that disables the collars by shooting at the person?

Is she unknowingly a yandere for us? I'm not gonna lie, I have a weak spot for that. Stupid, I know.

Anon by the standards of where we are, you are pretty normal if that is the worst thing you've got going for you.
>>
>>3343305
Thank you anon, but back to my original question, do you think the rivalry transformed into a yandere obsession? I don't know the worm verse so I have no idea if that's normal or not.

Anons, I'd be lying if I said I knew literally anything about this universe in great detail: I've got a fairly complete understanding of the greater plot / universe but individual characters come and go. I'm mostly here because I enjoy superhero / supervillain quests, especially gadgeteer ones.

I would however say that a rivalry can certainly transform into such a obsession, if she came to the conclusion that we were worthy of her respect / admiration / time. Which, given our skills, seems entirely possible.

This will encourage heavy metagaming which will take away from immersion and playing things out in a fun and interesting way.

All we need is in character knowledge.
>>
>>3343525
Mate, I don't have enough time to waste on reading an entire series which I'm potentially only ever going to deal with 1% of the material from and which depends heavily on OP-interpretation as well as player action.

It ain't a requirement to know jack shit about this universe to really deal with it: supers get their powers from trauma; there are a few types of super; there are a few really strong ones and a fair few weaker ones; the world is fucked; "giant" monsters attack on a regular basis.

To be entirely honest I fail to see how you'd need to know anymore than that if even that to take part in this quest at least somewhat effectively. Given all we've done in this quest so far that has in any way relied on knowledge of in-universe shit thus far is...nothing. At most you could argue our meta-gaming from coil's bunker was a result of that and honestly part of me does wish we could've went the other way just from curiosity.

The pieces had been set, and it was about time to begin a new game. Clutching a pawn, you stare at the other side of the gameboard. The queen and pawns stood in front of their' identity. The queen itself was arguably the mastermind's power. He knew from previous experience that thinker powers especially are a pain to pin down. He would need to bait the use of the power in question before making a proper deduction.

Tch, turning towards the countless monitors he saw countless groups of people through surveillance footage. Blue, blue, they all had a blue aura surrounding them. Switching over to a video from Asia, he saw a similar effect. There was one crucial difference, however, the aura was weak, hazy, at best.

That was how he managed to track 'their' location down, vaguely. His opponent was in Brockton Bay, that, he was certain of that. There were also several key clues.

*Mastermind X's power somehow affects the entire world at large, although the effect is mainly centered around the States.
*Mastermind X is a thinker. No Master/Stranger effects have appeared.

Not bad for a starting point, but you'll need more. Of course, it's almost an inevitability that you'll figure it out, the big question is when. How many pieces will you have given up for it? Will it be too late to put that information to use?

"You know, sir, if you simply asked for the help of the other Watchdog thinker's, I'm sure we could solve this whole issue much more efficiently."

Your longtime companion and friend offered you a steamy cup of coffee. Accepting the drink, you take a quick sip before responding.

"You're not wrong, but there are two main reasons for me not requesting their assistance."

"Oh really, what are those reasons, exactly?"

"Well, for one, you and I both know how corrupt they all are behind the scenes. If, for example, the man or woman we're after has a mole, then that's a significant loss for me. It would take away the element of surprise, and maybe even my identity."

"And your second reason?"

"It's not nearly as fun beating this kind of individual with the help of other parahumans, particularly fellow thinkers. It feels cheap, and I get no sense of satisfaction from it."

"But doesn't that put you in a significant disadvantage, sir? What if your target has a partner, a group or a faction of parahumans at his or her control?"

Picking up his queen, he waved the piece around.

"This is where the Protectorate comes in. If any of those possible scenarios are true, then I'll use the heroes here in full force. Of course, if I somehow lose their good will... then it would almost certainly be checkmate."

Sighing, the old, grey-haired man behind him began cleaning the dirty plates of food around their base of operations.

"You know, sir, that whole Hermann fiasco was a complete waste time, correct? We don't even know that the incident is connected."

"You're not exactly wrong... but, it's an undeniable fact that the 'power' was used shortly before Ballistic fled. There's a small, but significant chance that the Travelers are somehow linked. This includes the new cape himself."

"This is all 'but's and 'maybe's, sir. If we look too deeply into things, we may see connections that aren't really there."

"I'll keep that in mind, thank you, Andrew."

"Oh, you don't need to thank me, master. I was just checking your reasoning. If I may ask, what's our strategy moving forward?"

Pausing, the young man stared at the chessboard. After a long, tedious minute he seemed to make up his mind.

"We wait and see."

"Hm?"

"We watch out for any mistakes 'they' make in the darkness, and then seize the best opportunity possible. All the while, we'll analyze every move and action."

"A fine idea! I shall inform our small band of comrades about this in post-haste!"

Nodding, he continued staring at the gameboard. He was filled with a child-like excitement he hadn't felt in a long while. This was what he lived for, the hunt, the surprises, the twists and turns as he cornered his enemy.

Definitely not this week, I need a good break from QMing so I don't burn myself out. Maybe the 22/23 of this month

Yes, https://twitter.com/Northeninbred

Yes, actually. If you had choose to meet our mysterious thinker over here, something big (might) of happened you said the right things.

Watchdog? Was this why those two Watchdog goons asked for Hermann? I wish we went with them. Perhaps we could have asked if they could have done our favors first before we did anything for them. No, fuck them. Let watchdog and Coil play chess. We're going to be the third player that comes in out of nowhere playing RTS. No shadow games, full on base building unit producing Baneblade spamming epicness. Unlike the Cold War, we are going to deliver, and win.

I got one: super-invisible ink with a special tool that allows us to (remotely) reveal it, so we can draw swastikas everywhere.
>>
>>3348520
Not using delayed reaction ink so it slowly becomes visible but seriously, lets consider our current set up. We are equipped with a well improved anti-ballistic vest (that did little against our luck), a short range stunning energy whip and, as far as I remember, nothing else. This sounds more like a tinker's goon, not a god damn genius scientist.

Firstly, we lack any ranged option whatsoever. This issue is potentially gonna solve itself if we ever get our blasters back or if we just make another. Personally I am in favour of mounting it as a "bracelet" / bracer on our arm so we can keep a hand free. To avoid making it heavy as hell, we can place the batteries onto our back.

Secondly, we have no more ability to move about than a ordinary human. No jetpack, teleporter, superspeed or anything else to prevent us getting captured by an ambush. Quickest solution for this is getting our P.A back, failing that we should really look into some basic mobility boosting inventions.

Third, our melee is hard to hit with. Easiest solution I can think of would be to make our whip into more of a cat-o-nine-tails but that risks making it harder to use safely around civilians / allies, a compromise might be multiple "modes".

Fourth, we are a flimsy motherfucker. We should look into developing some sort of auto-injecting super-coagulant to stop us bleeding out from bullet wounds and such. That'd also be useful for dealing with civilians, given casualties are inevitable.

Fifth, we should look into enhancing our senses to reduce the chance of us getting taken unprepared as well as to enhance our ability to use our other equipment. Anything from night or heat vision to electro-sense.
>>
>>3348599
Personally I think we should scrap the fucking whip. It was a bad idea in the first place, just replace it with an expendable shock baton with multiple modes and bells and whistles.
>>
>>3348605
Ooh, I had an idea. Maybe we can convert the whip into a baton, or at least use some of its parts in the construction of the baton? That way it'll take less time and materials.
>>
>>3348605
Personally I think it is aesthetic as shit but I don't want to rely on it. It has good potential as a backup weapon / a method for dealing with hordes of goons thanks to it giving us lots of crowd control in our immediate area. Also, honestly, if we are going to bother with melee we're going to need a lot more time to make shit so we don't instantly get creamed by a minor brute or blaster.

Honestly, when we get back to base we should probably just make a pair of blaster pistols or SMG's and treat every encounter like this as a moment to take advantage of our weapon's non-lethality to replace accuracy.
>>
>>3348599
It doesn’t help that we crit fail 15% of everything we do. And when we get a crit success we get it on things like a Kevlar vest which didn’t even help us.
>>
>>3348856
DESTROY CRIT OVERRIDE
>>
>>3348974
We get a nat 20, we get some slightly better Kevlar or a good workout. We get a nat 1, and we destroy our multitool or get shot through said Kevlar.
>>
>>3350573
Yeah fuck crit override
Fuck giving other characters best of rolls too.
If you're giving everyone best of 2 and there are 6 people then there's gonna be crits and critfails fucking everywhere
