/qst/ - Quests

In the far future, biotechnology advances by leaps and bounds, creating stunning achievements in medical, civil, and military applications. Illness becomes a thing of the past, and genetic modification is as commonplace as cosmetic surgery.

However, like all great advances, unchecked progress and experimentation has led to abuse and corruption. Ultra powerful megacorporations that monopolized the latest biotech have risen to be the great powers of the age, waging secret wars of sabotage, espionage, and deceit to get ahead of each other.

In order to fuel their rampant growth, megacorps develop lethal diseases and viruses, horrific bio-organic abominations, and ever more exotic genetic modifications to both sell to the highest bidder and unleash upon each other.

The rampant proliferation of bioweapons, and the need to contain them, has given rise to a new profession, the BIOWEAPON HUNTER.

You are LEWIS, a Hunter specializing in hunting down biological threats with your T-Doll companion HK!

It was a fairly long flight, from what you can gather when you wake up and check the time. Thankfully, though, the plane was already on it's final approach. Glancing out the window, you could see a lush green island down below, Rockfort Island. As the plane drops more altitude, you could start to make out a golden band stretching across the west side side of the island, a massive beach. Just beyond the sand you could see numerous resort towers, built to house the numerous guests. At the port, you could even make out a docked cruise ship.

You briefly wonder if Carol- Nah. It couldn't be.

On the east side of the island, though, was sheer cliffs towering above the water. Just past them, you could see a sprawling complex of administrative and research buildings, the nerve center of the entire island's operation, you presume.

The plane finally lands, and all the Hunters and specialists disembark. You quickly follow suit. You're immediately hit with a wall of heat and humidity, causing you to wince.

"Is the weather making you uncomfortable?" HK asks.

"Just took me off guard." You assure her. You glance at the others, who are are being directed by the ground crew towards a tram station, the track splitting off in two directions.

One tram was headed east, towards the admin block, while the other was headed west, towards the resort area open to the public. All of the hunters board the eastbound train, but oddly enough, you see Mom boarding the westbound one. What was she thinking?

Well, whatever Mom was up to, you didn't have time to go chasing her. After all, you were officially on the clock here. You and HK head over to the eastbound train headed to the administrative block. The doors slide closed behind you and it pulls away from the station. You watch Mom's train head of in the opposite direction. In all that time, she never even so much as batted an eye at you.

Outside the train, you could see the track weaving through the jungle, both sides of the track lined with a large steel fence. The warning signs posted every few meters also warned these fences were electrified. An understandable precaution when dealing with large animals. The trees then break away into a large, open field where you could see a herd of massive, quadruped creatures plodding through the grass lazily.

"Those are apatosaurus." HK points out.

"You have a dinosaur database?" You raise an eyebrow.

"I downloaded the park's entire roster as a precaution, so I have all of their listed dinosaurs stored in my flash memory for easy access." HK explains, with a slight, smug grin.

"Right, right. Should've figured." You chuckle.

Soon, the train begins to slide to a stop at the next station, located right in front of the big administration center you had seen from the air. Immediately, you noticed uniformed Umbrella staff moving too and fro like ants, while you saw other uniformed staff, presumably the InGen employees who were previously working here, slowly filing out carrying boxes of all shapes and sizes. Guess Wesker wasn't kidding when he said Umbrella was cleaning the place out.

And speaking of Wesker, there was the man himself, standing on the platform waiting for all of you.

"Welcome Rockfort Island." Wesker says simply, his now appropriate for the situation sunglasses glinting in the tropical sun. "As you can see, we are in the administrative block of the island. I would understand if any of you would like to familiarize yourself with this area..."

"A tour sounds nice." You say. You then turn around and see that pretty much everybody else, especially the Hunters, have all already left. No doubt to get to work. Guess they weren't too interested.

"Well then, let us proceed." Wesker smiles as he takes the lead. "Unfortunately, some areas are still off limits as we sanitize them, but there should be some sections still open."

Wesker then pauses at a sign post and picks a direction pointing towards...

Wesker leads you into the primary building at the center of the complex, which looked to be a glass tower office building you'd see in any large city. He doesn't speak a word, but he doesn't have to. All of the Umbrella personnel give him a wide berth as he leads you and the small band of specialists to the elevator, which starts heading down instead of up.

"As you can probably tell, we'll be heading to the Operations room." Wesker explains simply. "The nerve center of all of the island's functions. Naturally this is one of the first placed we secured in the buyout."

The elevator doors slide open, revealing a large room containing rows and rows of computer workstations, all facing a massive wall of screens showing a map of the island as well as numerous data points and diagrams and graphs and more. Both InGen and Umbrella personnel were working side by side, no doubt the exiting InGen staff training their Umbrella replacements on how their systems worked.

"Welcome to Operations." Wesker grins as he strides towards the front of the room.

So many computers here, and off to the side, you could see a rather large server farm that was no doubt servicing all of these computer systems...

"HK." You whisper to the T-Doll. "You're good with computers, right?"

"I'm equipped with the latest electronic warfare package." HK nods. "Why do you ask?"

"You think you can take a look in the servers over there?" You nod to the server farm. "See if there's anything interesting?"

"Are you sure about this?" HK blinks. "Please confirm the order."

"Go on." You say. "I don't think they'll notice."

"Affirmative." HK nods as she starts slowing her pace, falling off to the back of the group.

You keep staying close behind Wesker as he heads up to the front, where you can see Dr. Vahlen present, staring at the status screen.

"Doctor." Wesker smiles. "Here's your Hunter, as you requested."

"Excellent." Vahlen nods and walks up to you. "Hello, Lewis. How are you doing?"

"Oh, fine, I guess." You nod. "So what do you need?"

"Well, if InGen was good at anything, it's their achievements in cloning." Vahlen sighs. "Unfortunately, their genetic data has proven to be rather.. .difficult to obtain at the moment. Instead of waiting for the computer techs to sort the issue out, I think it would be faster to collect... field samples. From live specimens."

"Where is where I come in." You finish.

"Correct!" Vahlen smiles. "Of course, I wouldn't ask for your assistance if there was no chance of danger..."

"Just tell me what you're looking for." You sigh.

"Well." Vahlen turns to the large status screen. "There are a few specimens I'm interested in..."

T-REX: The King of the Dinosaurs, InGen's rendition of the T-Rex has strong genetic markers for size and brute strength. Useful attributes for Umbrella's Tyrant line.

SPINOSAURUS: The Spinosauras' aquatic adaptations that allow it to swim and ambush from the water while sacrificing little of its overall strength and agility can greatly enhance the efficiency of Umbrella's Hunter line.

CARNOTAUR: The perfect ambush predator, the Carnotaur's chameleon-like skin gives this massive beast almost unparalleled camouflage abilities.

VELOCIRAPTORS: Arguably InGen's most fearsome creations, the Velociraptors aren't the largest or strongest of InGen's lineup, but they certainly are the most intelligent.

"There." Vahlen points to a section on the very northern tip of the island, which appeared to be cordoned off and labeled "RESTRICTED AREA."

"What's that place?" You wonder.

"That's the thing, nobody knows." Vahlen huffs. "There's no reference to that area anywhere in InGen's database."

"At least the parts we have access to." Wesker clarifies. "All the typical signs of a black project. Even InGen would have some skeletons in its closet."

"And, you just haven't bothered exploring it yet?" You raise an eyebrow.

"We've already attempted to, but the men we sent haven't returned." Wesker explains. "Which is why the good Doctor requested your presence."

"I certainly trust him more than a man we nickname the 'Reaper.'" Vahlen huffs.

"Hunk is one of our most capable agents." Wesker says calmly.

"An agent who almost never returns with his team alive." Vahlen retorts.

"He seems to do fine with SOPMOD." You point out. "Besides, if this place is as dangerous as Wesker says it is, it doesn't hurt to have some extra guns available."

"Fine, I shall defer to you, then." Vahlen huffs. "Let us get going, then."

"The area's tree cover is thick and unbroken, so we can't airlift your or get any aerial reconnaissance done. You'll have to go in on the ground and in the dark." Wesker warns. "There are a few roads going in, so vehicles are an option, but we can't verify their condition."

"Sounds like business as usual." You sigh right as HK returns, as if she had always been standing behind you. "You ready to go, Doctor?"

"Of course!" Vahlen says as she picks up a large carrying case. No doubt a portable lab for her work. "Let us go, then!"

"I've already made arrangements for Hunk to rendezvous with you at the edge of the restricted zone." Wesker remarks. "I can also arrange for the delivery of ground transport, unless you'd prefer to go in on foot."

Hm, well, he did say there were roads leading into the jungle, but with how thick the trees and overgrowth were, you weren't sure if a vehicle would even be able to get far.

"We could use some wheels." You nod.

"Then you'll find them waiting when you arrive." Wesker nods. "Doctor, you know where the helipad is. I still have matters to attend to here."

"Of course." Vahlen nods as she marches off. "Come along, then."

You let Vahlen gain a little distance before following her, and you lean over to HK.

"So, did you find anything?" You whisper to her.

"The data I found was nothing out of the ordinary. The standard files and data you would expect from a large scale administrative operation like this." HK points out. "But there were large sections of the database that were locked out or completely deleted. I lacked the sufficient time to properly decrypt and restore these sections."

Looks like Wesker was right. Someone in InGen wanted to cover their tracks or stick it to Umbrella. You have a feeling it was related to this restricted area as well.

You and HK then follow Vahlen outside, where you could see a helicopter spinning up its engines...

"It's nothing." You assure her as you board the helicopter, trying to shake the unease of knowing Mom was up to something, but you didn't have the opportunity to find out what. "Let's go."

The helicopter ride is a rather short one, since the island wasn't that large, and it's only a few minutes before the helicopter sets back down on an open patch of field. Down below, you could see SOPMOD waving eagerly with Hunk waiting by a parked jeep.

You decide it's best not to try and resist and just let the T-Doll hug you. SOPMOD wraps her arms around you, hard and cold due to their lack of synthetic skin and flesh that would normally be wrapped around them. Still, it felt a bit nice.

HK pauses as she watches this go on and she joins in as well, hugging you.

"HK, what are you doing?" You ask.

"Nothing." HK replies.

"Hee hee, the more the merrier!" SOPMOD giggles.

Hunk just stares silently from a distance, probably glad he's not getting that treatment while Vahlen just looks more confused than anything else.

"Is this normal behavior?" She wonders.

"No." You say flatly. "Well, at least for me and HK."

"Sounds like neither of you have any fun, then!" SOPMOD giggles as she finally lets go of you.

HK still has her arms around, you, though, at least for a few seconds longer. Hunk finally steps forward, determining that it was safe now.

"Management has already briefed us." He grumbles. "Get the VIP inside the restricted area and analyze the situation."

Just a few hundred meters away, you could see another steel fence running across the ground, separating the field from the treeline. The one break is a large security gate on the one road in the area.

"I suppose it's best that one team drives and the other stays on overwatch." Hunk nods to the jeep, which has a hatch on top to allow a passenger to shoot out of.

Vahlen silently nods and climbs into the back seat of the jeep. HK rides shotgun alongside you while SOPMOD sits in the back as well. Hunk meanwhile mounts what looks to be a freaking minigun on the roof.

"Can't be too careful." He grunts.

Damn, you were kinda jealous, actually.

"Let's get moving, please." Vahlen sighs. "I'd very much like to get this business complete before dark."

Even though there's a road, you still tread carefully as the jeep delves deeper and deeper into the zone. Apparently, prolonged misuse and neglect had caused the road to be broken up and uneven as rampant jungle choked the area. Nevertheless, the jeep trudged forward slowly but surely, at least up until HK quickly pats your shoulder.

"Kill the engine." She hisses as she quickly but quietly opens the door, her rifle at the ready as she dismounts.

You quickly follow her order and kill the engine. It's a bit more of a struggle to get your machine gun ready, but you dismount as well. Hunk and SOPMOD follow suit, and you note Hunk packing a shotgun with a submachine hanging off his belt.

"You see it, too?" SOPMOD giggles.

"Of course." HK whispers. "My sensors are tracking contacts, humanoid. This direction."

The T-Doll silently stalks through the jungle before stopping again and motioning for you to move up to her position. When you reach it, you quickly see it.

At least half a dozen men surrounding what looked to be a shot up jeep. They were all armed and clad in tactical armor, and they were all on edge.

"Your guys?" You whisper to Hunk.

"They're not Umbrella, and we didn't direct any Hunters here." Hunk growls as he raises his shotgun.

Yeah, something about this didn't feel right.

given how this is a privately owned area with corp assets, and these people weren't on the party list, we can assume they're enemy hostiles and retain the opportunity of surprise for shooting first and ask questions later. Really, they can't be more suspicious if they tried, and trying to talk will probably just get us shot and lose all initiatives..

Before you have a chance to say anything, Hunk charges forward through the brush, firing his shotgun as he goes.

You were honestly shocked at just how FAST he was, weaving through trees and brush effortlessly while firing off his shotgun with deadly accuracy. Two of the mercs go down instantly before you even have a chance of laying down covering fire with your machine gun, shredding the jungle growth in front of you and forcing the remaining mercs to scatter.

HK and SOPMOD meanwhile hang back, firing their rifles in short, controlled bursts with deadly precision. In this environment, they held all the advantages, and remaining mercs are swiftly dispatched.

"Weeeee, that was great shooting!" SOPMOD pats HK's shoulder. "You didn't do too bad yourself, HK!"

HK almost frowns at the contact, but stays stoic.

"Your... performance was more efficient than I originally calculated." HK replies

"Heheh." SOPMOD giggles before kneeling over the corpse of one of the mercs. "Time to grab some trophies~!"

You have to look away from SOPMOD's apparent "hobby" and instead focus on the shot up jeep, and you can see two Umbrella soldiers in the front seats just as shot up as their vehicle. Hunk takes a quick look, which is all he needs.

"Surprise attack. They didn't even have a chance to react." Hunk grunts. "Whoever these mercs are, they were waiting."

"Gunning for us? You wonder.

"I think they're trying to hide something here." Hunk steps away and lightly kicks one of the merc corpses. "It's starting to come together now. The data wipes, the missing patrols, this unmarked area. There's assets here InGen is trying to hide from us."

"Shouldn't we warn Wesker, then?" You wonder.

"Long range communications are not possible." HK reports. "I cannot determine whether it's from the natural conditions here or external jamming."

"No time to go back." Hunk says grimly as he heads back for the jeep. "These are just delaying actions. Whatever they're protecting, they must be trying to move off site before we find it."

"You sure you can do this without backup?" You wonder.

"That's what you're for, isn't it?" Hunk asks. "Hurry up, too much time has passe already."

"Right." You nod as you head back to the jeep with Hunk. "Any ideas where to go?"

"They were watching the road, so I suppose we just keep following it." Hunk remarks.

"I heard shooting." Vahlen states as you get back into the drivers' seat.

"The situation's a lot more complicated than we thought." You report.

"The good news is, there's definitely something here worthy of your interest." Hunk says as he mans the topside gun again.

"Area is clear." HK says as she gets into the passenger seat.

"Awww, I only had time to clip a couple of fingers!" SOPMOD whines as she pockets a very bloody plastic baggie.

"Go." Hunk says simply but sternly.

You tear down the jungle at full speed, the jeep's ruggedness being a great help in keeping the vehicle from falling apart on the rough terrain. Fortunately, there didn't seem to be any obstacles or traps on the road, so you're able to make good time.

That is, until you come up to what looks like a gatehouse, manned by some mercs.

"Keep going." Hunk remarks

Suddenly, you hear a loud electric whine and what sounds like a buzzsaw as Hunk finally lets that minigun of his go, throwing thousands of rounds down the road. The gatehouse and the mercs around it practically dissolve into dust and red mist and the Jeep smashes through the flimsy road barrier before you bring the jeep to a screeching halt.

Up ahead looked to be something like a concrete bunker, the doors unsealed and leading downwards into the depths of the island.

"...looks like they're definitely hiding something there." Hunk says simply as he pumps his shotgun. "Time to see what it is."

"I would like to go as well." Vahlen unbuckles her seatbelt. "I must see what it down there."

"All right, Doctor." You motion for Vahlen to follow you. "Stick close to us and don't wander off."

Vahlen silently nods and steps in between SOPMOD and HK, the two T-Dolls being superior protection i a potential firefight, while you and Hunk take the lead.

The both of you slowly but certainly descend down the bunker stairs, passing through the open bunker doors.

"All right, there's no telling what we can find down there." Hunk grunts as she gives his shotgun a preparatory pump.

You, HK, Hunk, SOPMOD, and Vahlen were already inside the InGen bunker, which looked to be eerily abandoned.

"It looks like we might be too late." Vahlen mutters as your group stalks down the darkened concrete halls.

"We've been monitoring all traffic on and off the island. We would've noticed anything suspicious." Hunk grunts. "And they wouldn't still have gunmen lurking in the area if they already got what they came for."

Hunk the pauses at a corner and silently motions SOPMOD. He pulls out a flashbang from his belt and tosses it around corner. SOPMOD, immune to its effects, swiftly breaks cover and fires two bursts just as the flashbang goes off.

Hunk glances around the corner, then waves for the rest of you to follow.

Around the corner, you see two mercs downed in front of an elevator.

"Heheh, way too easy!" SOPMOD giggles. "I hope they got guys that can put up more of a fight!"

"Quiet." Hunk mutters as he glances at the directory posted next to the elevator doors. "Damn."

He points to the very bottom of the directory, which had the word "DOCK" listed.

"Looks like that's their exit." Hunk explains. "We'll have to intercept-"

"Wait." Vahlen interrupts. "They have a laboratory level here, too."

"And?" Hunk pauses.

"I believe that rather than barging in with guns blazing, we need to at least get some information about what we are dealing with." Vahlen huffs. "If they are indeed trying to transport a genetic specimen, we need to know how fragile or capable it is!"

"We don't have time for that." Hunk sighs.

"This facility has an entire level dedicated to a holding pen." HK points out. "Perhaps what we seek is there. Maybe we can obtain it without having to fight our way through the entire bunker."

"That's gamble." Hunk retorts. "I don't like uncertainties."

"I'm with HK. We should head down to the holding pen level. Maybe they haven't even moved the goods out yet." You say.

Hunk looks at you, then Vahlen. He pauses for a moment, probably determining whether it would take longer to argue with you or just humor your suggestion.

"Fine." He grunts as he slams the elevator button to summon it.

The doors slide open, but it's empty. Looks like the lower levels weren't yet aware of your presence.

The elevators descend lower into the facility before sliding to a stop, opening up on what looked to be a maze of observation catwalks overlooking open topped holding pens below holding... well, they weren't dinosaurs.

"Mein gott..." Vahlen gasps, not in horror, you note, but in fascination. "They've developed human-dinosaur hybrids!"

Sure enough, down below, you could see dozens of freakish, humanoid creatures with dinosaur features, like triceratops walking upright and a T-Rex with massive, human-like arms and hands. There more even smaller humanoid hybrids milling about, though you couldn't exactly tell what they were mixed with.

"Well well well." Hunk grunts, glancing at HK. "Looks like your hunch was right.:"

"I don't have hunches. Merely a calculated observation." HK corrects him.

"Hmph. Whatever." Hunk grumble as he pumps his shotgun. "We'll tag them now and bag them later. Pretty sure these mercs won't be interested in dead assets."

"Wait!" Vahlen protests. "These aren't simple clones like the others! This is a prime opportunity to expand our research! You cannot simply exterminate these creatures!"

"You'll still get your samples. Don't worry." Hunk tries to assure her.

"Ooooooh, I wanna collect 'em all!" SOPMOD giggles and she flips her rifle's safety off.

Hunk is silent for a moment, until he finally speaks up.

"Fine, but keeping things alive will be your responsibility." Hunk spins around and resummons the elevator. "I and SOPMOD will proceed with clearing out this facility. Doctor Vahlen, it's your choice whether to accompany us or stay here."

"I shall stay." Vahlen says with determination. "Do not worry, I am not without my own resources for survival."

"Well..." You pause, trying to determine your next course of action.

If you could proceed to the lab level, there was the possibility of gaining more intelligence, maybe even nabbing the guy behind all these hybrids. It would certainly be a windfall for Vahlen and Umbrella as a whole, and would get you further into their good graces.

Then again, once Hunk and SOPMOD started raising hell, they'd probably send forces to secure the hybrids. Maybe it was better to stay put and wait for them to come.

Fortunately, there's nobody in the elevator waiting for you, leaving you and HK free to step inside and secure the area while Vahlen follows.

After making sure everybody is present, you hit the button to go to the lab level. It's only a few seconds later that the doors slide open, revealing a pretty regular looking lab. There's some scientists milling about, hurriedly packing up equipment and materials, but more concerning was the four mercs standing guard in the lab. Two of them were farther away and not facing the elevator, while to of them were much closer and facing you. They're caught off guard the sight of three intruders, giving you and HK a critical window to act.

You sort of lose track of what you're firing, up until you feel Vahlen's hand pounding on your shoulder.

"Stop! Stop you fool!" Vahlen cries.

You immediately cease fire, your machine gun smoking from the heat. HK likewise stops firing, but keeps her rifle raised just in case.

"Look what you've done!" Vahlen sputters.

"All hostiles neutralized." HK nods.

Sure enough ,the four mercs were definitely down for the count, including all of the scientists.

"You've completely destroyed all the lab equipment!" Vahlen groans as she quickly dashes over to the lab tables. Sure enough, there were shattered vials and beakers, shredded machinery, and a few smoking and sparking computer monitors.

"It's going to be a miracle if I can salvage anything from this..." Vahlen mutters as she gets to work on one of the few intact computer workstations.

"Lewis." HK pats your shoulder in warning. "There's more."

Sure enough, you turn to see several glass tubes holding more of those human-dinosaur hybrids. Unfortunately, your little machine gun spree has breached a number of them, and the suspension fluid in the tubes that were keeping the hybrids inactive was starting to leak and spill all over the floor.

And the hybrids begin to twitch wildly.

Vahlen, meanwhile, is completely engrossed in her work, either not noticing or not caring about the imminent danger you were all in.

"Shit, HK! Get ready!" You yell as you slap a fresh belt into your MG.

"Roger." HK nods as she reloads her rifle. "Assessing targets."

You immediately count six of what you assume to be the raptor hybrids. Freakish humanoids with long, bony arms ending in terrifying looking claws. In addition, there were two triceratops hybrids, their bodies thick with tough skin and muscle and their heads basically being gigantic armored shields. They were pretty slow, but definitely tough looking.

Well, you had the firepower and rate of fire, but HK had the precision. You'd have to work together to pick your targets carefully.

"HK! You focus on the smaller hybrids!" You bark as you swing your MG onto the larger tri-brids. "I'll take on the big ones!"

"Affirmative." HK swings her rifle towards the raptor hybrids, who have just now woken from their forced slumber and have smashed their way out of their damaged glass prisons.

Meanwhile, the tri-brids are already lumbering towards your position at a slow but steady pace.

Your MG roars, pouring round after round into the approaching tri-brids, but even the heavier MG rounds were having trouble piercing their thick hides and bony heads.

You then get the idea to raise your barrel, aiming for their face, which had to be more vulnerable. Sure enough, a lucky rake of bullets gouges on of the tri-brid's eyes out, causing it to roar in pain and it topples over, thrashing in pain.

The second tri-brid is quick to catch on, though, and raises one of its thickly scaled arms to protect its own face, but its advance slows considerably as it does so.

Meanwhile, HK is struggling with the raptor hybrids, as they prove to be especially quick and cunning. As she tries to take them out with an opening salvo from her Typhoon launcher, the hybrids immediately scatter in multiple directions, thwarting her attempt to take them all out in one go.

HK immediately falls back on her own rifle, managing to wing one of the raptor hybrids but you weren't sure if she could hold them all back on her own.

Damn, it looks like these raptor hybrids were too much for even HK to handle on her own. You quickly shift your attention her way, but as you do so, you notice Vahlen's attention was still focused on her workstation with singleminded intensity.

If she wasn't looking, maybe you could use a little magic to get more of an edge...

You let your MG rip, and to you satisfaction, the raptor hybrids are caught off guard and torn to shreds, their much lighter skin providing no protection from the hail of bullets you send their way.

However, two of the raptor hybrids manage to evade both your and HK's fire, weaving through the streams of bullets before leaping at HK, their combined mass knocking the T-Doll off her feet and onto the ground. Her rifle goes clattering on the ground and she's only barely able to keep their deformed jaws from away from her face.

Meanwhile, the remaining tri-brid continues to advance, though still at its slower pace.

You scowl as you charge forward towards HK. It was too risky trying to shoot the hybrids off of HK. you might hit her, after all, so you had little choice but to close in and get those damn hybrids off of her the old fashioned way.

You charge forward and punch one of the hybrids assaulting HK with all your might. Between your enhanced strength and your fist hardening into crystal at impact, the thing practically explodes like a water balloon, sending gore and bone fragments flying everywhere.

However, you're not quite fast enough to stop the other one as the tri-brid comes charging in again, the ground shaking and rumbling as it approaches.

You had no choice but to turn and face your new pursuer as HK practically struggled for her life, her arms locked in a duel of strength against the hybrid' as its jaws clamped and gnashed, trying to tear a chunk out of her.

Crap, where were Hunk and SOPMOD when you needed them...?

Thanks for the run, boss.

>>3293332
Who's to say that she isn't already starting to feel outpaced by the newer models of T-Dolls like the new police models last mission?
>>
>>3293336
Well that's another aspect to it. She cam to us as a top of the line prototype and, well I don't want to say she hasn't been cutting it as Lewis has been involved in some crazy shit, but she keeps getting steamrolled. On top of that the police models outshone her. She has to be feeling something is off.

I have a personal theory that Carol has been impersonating HK for some, if not most, of the missions and is the reason we've seen a doppelganger HK.
>>
>>3293342

>>

>>
>>3293369
Ew.
>>
>>3293369
>>3293374
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, but I like to believe that it's HK.

If T-Dolls can dream, I bet that HK's involves finding herself in a dumping ground littered with hundreds or thousands of HK models in various states of disrepair yet still active, crying out for their owners who long discarded them. All HK can do is scream.

As for Carol, she's another can of worms. Mostly involving finding long-term companionship and not having a known life expectancy.

I can't recall if it was specified what HK was supposed to be the test bed for aside from having the latest hard and software at the time.

At present, I'd expect her manufacturers already have numerous variants that fix the problems of the initial batch. After all, failed prototypes are something that people tend to overlook, and instead focus on the really good ones.

The real shitty thing is that HK has yet to really fully mature or even discover herself.

It's one thing for an adult to realize that they're starting to slow down and lagging behind, but it's another thing for a child who was number one to realize that the other kids are doing far better.

It's a feeling that a young Lewis probably felt when he discovered Lucina was quantifiably superior to him, and that there was no way to win against her.
