The moon goes low. The river runs red. With a final keening blow. The last of the vermin is exterminated. The ineffectual barks of the looming undead wait on the other side of the river, lest they cut themselves from the No Life King's curse.

The Uncrowned paid the iron price and suffered the iron tax and in return found themselves a fortress in the wood.
It was not a victory celebrated in cheers , but a setback responded with silence. Tonight, they prevail.

= The Uncrowned has captured the fort and fought off the Vambie hordes. For a mercy the halls of death were warmed by torches and old braziers as camp was formed=

=How To Parse Honor=

In addition to enemies defeated, added details about their downfall may translate to your added repertoire. Stronger creatures add honor exp based on their gap between you and their rank. Furthermore, honor goes to the one who delivers the killing blow.

Should it occur that more than one has participated in this affair, there are two possibilities;

+ While All parties can recieve Killing Blow exp , only one may have had the "Honor" of defeating it, by virtue of others ceding their claim.

x Both attempt to claim Honor, nullifying it.

x.ii in the event that Honor is contested, it is possible to informally settle on an agreement via (dice), (roleplay), or other such means non-taxing the QM. It is possible to for the CO to also set in place a standing policy based on favored criteria such as Damage Dealt, Damage Recieved , Highest honor Potential, or Seniority. It is also possible for the CO to arbitrate the result.

x.iii in the event that Nullification claims are used maliciously and falsely in an attempt to impede someone's rightful claim to it where overwhelming evidence exists in their favor, Honor goes to the aggrieved.

Being a prisoner wasn't so bad. If you disregarded the beatings and the jeers, didn't linger on the food and the cold. Meditative, in its own bruise-inducing way.

And in Tovani's secret soul she could seek refuge in the marching lines of numbers and the ordered arrays of accountancy, happily assured that no one would shamble from the dark to mutter about wages and pay. Strange that the Bandit Leader hadn't taken her up on her offer to go over their accounts. But maybe they were the shy sort? One of the squires had looked a little squeamish at the mention of double-entry book keeping...

She wondered, briefly, if Alswith was still alive. And if Alswith knew where the rations were kept. Or the trick to disabling the Anti-Evergreen Theft Prevention Crossbow Trap Tovani had lost all the skin on her left thumb stringing up...

The bandit encampment was, Gaia's granted generosity, free of the more insidious form abomination. Mere humanoid monsters prowling this place. The Vambies were. . . Tovani's shied from thinking about the teeth, the fangs, the claws, the black-flecked acidic spittle that burned the flesh. Best not think about it. Maybe it was that kind of infection vector.

Had anyone been bit? No. Right? Yes. Yes! Yes-- No, hope and hope and tear off your own soggy robes and check and think and pray.

The forest had fallen silent with nothing left to cut down. The company was haggard; most were wounded, some had fallen. Infection had begun to fester. Quemists and Clerics moved among those close to death, wrapping bandages and administering foul-smelling tinctures.

The Shape gripped his knives. They no longer caught the light. The blades had gotten dull and scuffed.

Tap.

The Uncrowned killed a lot today.

Ffernfael makes a disgusted noise as be pulls another strip of shredded zombie flesh out of his hair and flicks it over the battlements and into the gloom without. He'd been pulling bits of exploded zombie off of himself ever since the battle ended some hours prior and was frankly sick of it. He wanted a bath, and every passing hour made diving into the river for one more and more tempting. If only it were any slower, that he would not get swept away, and the forest any less infested, that he would not get plucked from its waters by some malformed thing and bitten in half. At least his face was clean, the water ration afforded that much.

He couldn't take the bacon, not with the reek of those burning corpses still on his nose.

Another flash in the darkness across the river. Light, catching on silvered wire. His old leader, the turned dark hunter, still over there, watching. Ffernfael gives the far shore a wary look.

Three hours on the castle walls, and another before the moon reached its zenith, by his guess. None of the vampies on this side of the river so far, and the forest deathly quiet broken only by the occasional screech. He hopes that luck holds, and that those bloody vambies would shut up by the time it was his turn to get some rest.

Easy as pie! You look at your highest current stat. the cost to Rank Up is that x 8. you can rank up your own class or any other class!

If you rank up another class, you must pick - when deploying - which one is your "main". The main class sets the armour proficiency and gear allowances.

If you rank up a new class, you roll their stat ranks up dice, but you don't get their starting bonus.

Example:
Int 4 Squire wants to be Nomad
Spend 4 * 8 = 32 XP
Roll vs Nomad Stat Rank Ups (pictured).
See what you get.
Now have rank 1 Nomad / Rank 1 Squire.
Want to deploy next map as a Nomad so I can wield monster armour!

Important Note: The Special Proficiencies (Squire Rock Toss, Nomad Throw Medium). To spend XP for those, you have to first spend 1 battle with that class as your main. So you can't rank into Nomad 1 then immediately learn Throw / Crushing / Fell / Ram. But you do get all their free stuff.

It had been a very long night for Lady Ardene. First, she had been used as bait for the Marquis's Midians by the rest of the scouting party without being warned, and then fought sword to claw versus a veritable army of Vambies while covered in said Midians' vile, smelly blood. She considered fetching Alexander to have him clean her armor and shield, but decided that for once she'd do that herself, not wanting to risk infecting the poor boy. She took a look at her Targe and marveled at how the wooden shield had survived many Vambies' claws. Those lunar clerics fielded good equipment.

Ardene is halfway through cleaning all of the blood and broken eggs, knew she forgot something when checking her gear, when she notices something rising from the corner of her eye. She spins around, expecting a risen zombie to be shocked that He-Man had survived his fall into the river. She immediately ran over, helping the warrior to his feet. She considered slapping him for the ramming thing, but worried that it'd kill the man again.

"He-Man, you lucky bastard! I thought you were dead, and that it was my fault! Why the Hell didn't you get up sooner!?"

Alice sits by the river, a little ways apart from the others. She takes her gloves off and begins rinsing them in the flowing water. Jose's death replays itself behind her eyes. She had been thrust into a position of leadership over blue squad, and he had died -- because of her decision? -- even as he spent his own life-force to aid her. Was it her fault? Could she have done anything differently? One thing she knew for certain was that her Harvest had done its work, spilling the blood of those foul hybrid creatures. All she understood of this world was to hone her edge, to slay beasts more efficiently, more ruthlessly. Perhaps that would keep her fellows safe next time, prevent at least one more from falling. Perhaps.

Is Alice now promoted, is she now Blue Leader, or is this only temporary, a battlefield stopgap? She does not know. She does not know how to command, or how to lead, only to hunt and kill. But, either way, the company commander will be waiting for an after-action report. She stands and goes to find Fernand, to deliver the news of Blue Squad's stand at the southern pass.

Limping away from the carnage Ghaston stumbles over a root, toppling face first into the wet muck below. Bronze mask he wore spinning to a halt against a tree not far away as the young man tries to catch himself and fails to do so. Dark blood spilling out and painting the ground while the world was spinning and his vision fading. His own voice sounding muffled to his ears, Ghaston shouts for aid, calling to Thomas his porter first.
"Thomas! Thomas, please... where are you? Somone... I need help."
The blood loss was getting to him, but still Ghaston claws on his knees toward the mask. The short distance feeling like miles as his muscles strain to keep propelling him closer to what he lost. Retrieving his mud specked bronze mask, Ghaston pulls his body closer to the tree it had lay beside. Now leaning against the tree and smiling down at the inside of the mask he so oft wore, murmuring "I'm sorry" as a tear slides down his left cheek and Ghaston's eyes drift closed. Thankfully enough for him however, the young duelist got far enough from the battle that his porter could even hear his prior cries. Swiftly enough Thomas had the aid he needed in hand and was helping Ghaston to where camp was going to be made. Though the mask was too much trouble to try and remove from the young man's unconscious grip, as the duelist appeared to be unwilling to let it go.

Countess -

We have removed an infestation of undead in one of the abandoned forest forts - it appears a darc sorcerer has made these woods their home. We met with a mutual friend, and passed along your greetings. She has taken up a vigil in the nearby monastery, for fear of the sorcerer's predations. Unless our contract is extended to deal with this new development, or to hold this location, we can return posthaste. There are other developments I wish to discuss in person, and a desire to speak of the fate of the squires I left in your care. I await your reply.

The Shape felt uneasy after the last battle. It was the sorcerer who rose men from the dead, but it was not the sorcerer that turned men into beasts. Then who? Milluda was unlikely, unless the Dog-Faced one was lying. Eindorf? His pale black knights? Possible, but also unlikely. If they knew where the fort was to assault it with beasts, there would be no need to interrogate a captive.

Tap.

An unknown party. The Shape ran a whetstone along the blade of his knife.

Tap tap.

The Shape did not know what they could want, but they were hostile and unlikely to quit. The Shape wiped his knife clean on a cloth.

Tap tap tap.

She stared numbly at the trap aimed at her chest, now sprung, and it took a few seconds for realization to settle in. "AAH!," she cried, falling back. It took a few seconds more for her to recover from the floor, standing on shaky legs to peer into the supply chest. In it, atop the supplies was a note written in the Quartermaster's handwriting, suggesting the bolt was meant for Evergreen.

Under the cover of Twilight, the Crow Returns,

" If Jeromis has deemed the way to the fortress clear and reliably free of dangers then return and make your report. In the future, ensure that locations aren't revealed by crow lest they be intercepted. As for the Sorceress, it will simply have to come to the attention of the Scholomance as Necromancy is considered a forbidden art. In due time I will count on your further services depending on the meeting to come. "

Jeromis pondered the content of the of message and gave a nod;
" Aye, the way back should be more than possible. This fortress is a familiar to the Nightwatch as it was in my father's day as well. However if the presence of Marquis' men is anything to go by, we don't have much time to dally and would need to coordinate our meeting as soon as possible "

> With this the group returns to Lucerne to make their report.

Lisbette: Well then ? What did you wish to tell me ?

Despite the fact that his wounds were still rather tender, Ghaston wanders the streets of Lucerne alone. Bronze mask hanging by a strap from his swordbelt which looked a little odd with the sheath-like additions that held his face takers, opposite the estoc scabbard on his right, .Still the looks he got for carrying Eleanor's former weapons, paled in comparison to the reactions that came from comrades who learned axes were his preferred weapons. Most thinking he was either being boastful or just outright foolish in a way that endangered his allies those whom thought in the former manner would be most accurate though the latter were not wrong.
Ghaston's stroll places him looking at the weapons available for purchase, his mismatched eyes staring coldly at the various pieces of war with contempt. The selection of 'axes' did not appeal to the duelist's taste, his pride and assumed grandeur considering the various pieces to be merely scraps of steel unfit for his hands. Sighing in disappointment Ghaston tugs the brim of his hat lower and turns from the selection back to his walk, muttering to himself as he does.
"I will need proper steel to face greater foes..."

He-man's attempt is being processed as a solo attempt. Ffernfael & Joy's posts are being cancelled. In the future, the correct order of operations for these side missions is:

1) form group, locking in for consequences
2) individual members roll results
3) Sum group results & consequences

You are not allowed to jump into these groups ad hoc after someone has rolled. The intention for these missions is for a group of players to squad up and share the consequences and rewards, the effect of which is dulled if you already know part of the results prior to committing to the mission.
>>
>>3276952

Due to the consequences of pre-rolling without declaring group composition, a cascade of sequential rolls can be seen as "probing" for success. As a result, any operation of rolls that occur in this way is treated as a "solo" attempt and will be parsed as such.

In the twisted streets of Lucerne heavy mist rolled in from each corner, He-Man sat at the corner of stone fixtures unmoving save for his prowling eyes amidst the statues of Hellenic ancients. Then from the mist he sees it, a street walker draped in red runs down the alleyway , her head turned around warily for her pursuer. Soundless, it broke the mist from the other direction, a coated figure who's feet could be seen unmoving. It dove in for the woman.

From above He-man jumps down greatsword primed for the attacker. A solid blow from above and the attacker was sent reeling, metal tools and sharp objects falling from their person as they gushed blood. The woman ran the other way, and ran far she did.

" Please - please good sers," she begged one of the nightwatch. " The Ripper! It's the Ripper ! " Fernfael who stood in the rooftops above hopped from chimney to balcony to and primed an arrow to shoot below where He-Man held the cloaked man at bay. Damn this fog !

And somehow this caught the Ripper's attention.

The Ripper takes a surgical dagger and flicks it at Fernfael's heel. A shot of pain later and he is spiraling down rain slicked rooftops only to be caught by the Nomad at the last moment.

An Opening !

The Ripper turns to leave, but sees the lamed Fernfael whose legs could barely move and He-man who is outright dazed. A fanged smile would reveal itself as he took up his tools and went right to work as the Archer watched. Today it will be the Scissors.

===

Joy could not summon the words of what she saw. Fernfael's eyes would not close, And He-man had no eyes to speak of at all. The alleyway was red for as far as the statues danced.

> The Killer was still on the loose.

=On Jeromis' Introduction=

Jeromis: I've heard from the Royal Akademy of your good works and the headmaster has extended their arm of gratitude.

Royal Scholar: And we've heard of your recommendations from the Countess and this Old Guard both.

Jeromis: Letraine !

Royal Scholar: Ohohohoho, it's been ages since I heard my foresworn name, Master Jeromis, but that aside, between the Countess' blessings and your hard earned respect, a mercenary group that has come together under such improbable circumstance is nothing to scoff at. We could be looking at another assemblage of heroes ever since the Great War.

As such let the Royal Akademy en Wysteria open their doors to the Uncrowned.

Ardene had long dreamed of access to the Royal Armory, even when she resorted to arming herself with the gear of the fallen after the Scholomance rejected her application. Not only had that time finally come thanks to Fernand and The Uncrowned, but she had acquired the means to pay for its products. The Iron Sentry Mail caught her eye first, thickest armor she'd seen. However, the thought of moving in that with her characteristic clumsiness left her hesitant. Eventually she decided on the safer option, more traditional plate and some under-padding to make up for the difference. As for her old armor, the company could make use of it as they will, and if not her trusty squire could begin training in it.

Coming to a halt as he was shouted at, Ghaston grits his teeth in a sneer as Sionnach approaches with their heavy footfalls. Though Ghaston manages to put on the semblance of a smile as he turns to face the hedge knight.
"I seek an axe worth it's heft yes, though the price I think will cause it to escape my grasp. Seeing as we're of the same Company, I see no reason to deny a comrade seeking to aid me."
The young man's mismatched eyes fixated coldly on Sionnach's own, over his hawk nose. However a soft smile and boyish features of an unmarked 20 winter old youth did offer mixed signals of the duelist's actual mood or intent. Ghaston turns, right arm outstretched indicating to walk with him as he continues.
"I'm not sure you'd be interested, but I have heard of a Ceremony that needed a few hands. However, I wonder about the job as it did make mention of having need for 'drug' suppliers. Kehahah."

Coinciding story and content introductions will be some patches and clarifications. But the most important will be the handling of exp going forward.

Parsing: Exp tics are counted per entity and degree of interaction from categories A, B and C. Resulting in (A+B) per enemy +C per Ally.

A)Kills and assists. Apply only one from A per enemy.
-Killing Blows: 5xp (More than one can participate in the killing blow of one opponnent)
-Assists (To Killing Blows or damage contributed) 3xp
B) Engagement. Apply one from B per enemy.
-Engagements (Aggro Pulled, Targetted by enemy etc ) 3exp

C) Saved or Supported. Apply One from C per Ally.
Saves- 4 Exp per ally Healed or protected
Supports- 2 Exp per ally Supported

+ Honor Bonus +
The Commander's choice: +5
The People's favor: +5
The Crown of Buffoons: +1Exp

Other Sources of Honor:
+ Honorable Burials
+ Following Rules of Engagement
+ Dueling

Errata: It was recorded in the last engagement that Melee was disproportionately left behind in the exp race despite shouldering higher risks . As such Honor bonuses for simple eliminations are streamlined to more controlled objectives, and Enemy Engagement is given as an isolated bonus to those who have aggroed the enemy, taken damage from the enemy, or was targetted by the enemy. Engagements must NOT apply to enemy that has not fought back before dying.

Resolution: Characters who gained exp up to this point will get to keep them, but this grading will take effect Next Battle.

Other changes:
Ritters Proficiency clarified: Their armor Proficiency has become HVY Armor and can equip a range of Light to Heavy Armor.

Clarifications:
>>3277114
The Iron Sentry Armor Classifies as HEAVY ARMOR
The Pale Iron Armor Classifies as Light Armor

Lisbett's stare became a glower at the mention of the Marquis and his monochre.
" To answer your question, we've been investigating a string of missing persons that have been occurring on my subjects' lands , every lord who I had spoken to about their missing persons seemed to attribute their losses to their workers simply walking out and leaving the next ship out of Serpico. It was benign at first, then whole hamlets would disappear overnight or bodies would turn up at the Swamp. Unrest grew and the Marquis put on a pious front, he even held Witch Hearings that would no sooner translate to Heretic Burnings the same night. For that you can thank the Orthodoxy of Apollo who formed their own Night Watch but didn't extend their resources to the people.

" But if what you say is true, then the Virgin Marquis - who has not sired an heir, despite grooming Lady Eindorf , would most definitely be a Midian or consorts with Midians himself- after all, the blood of virgins is oft the sweetest taste to them. The problem is that support from the Orthodoxy is hard to gain, and nothing short of a bold public response would force their hand. Additionally, the Marquis is my direct superior in this region. My tenure as Countess was given only because of my pedigree to govern. Right now however, I must admit that my values are being shaken and that my family's honor is called to stake. My only allies in such a matter are the Knights Ingram, the Nightwatch, and those who nurse a secret hatred for the Marquis. And what of you, Fernand ? What path will you take ?

She sets down a firm pouch of Silver coins before the mercenary. 175 Silver by the tink of each coin.

"It would be my honor to fight by your sides, Lady Joy, Sir Evergreen. By Luna's grace we three will see this mad man brought to justice." Despite the confidence of her words, Qsitina could not help but feel apprehension. Twice she had proved her inexperience in the swamp. First when she'd nearly maimed Essiene then again when she'd fled the field. A mishap while pursuing a murderer could prove disastrous not just to her companions or herself, but to the city as a whole. To do nothing on the other hand was unconscionable. "The moon's waning only proceeds it's waxing. Luna's light will guide us through this darkness."

It's my understanding that the bogey is on failed rolls, so it'd be three failures ends up with imprisonment and not three people joining in? In Owl's concerns for others who haven't had the chance to complete a quest, I'm in the same boat. Forgot I took on the subject of study quest during our last leave.

For the purpose of future organization/improved tactics, could you guys post your most current stat block, what kinds of things you can do/specialize in (like "I can potentially murder a 3x3 square since I have a 20 die pool" or "I want to focus on healing" kind of thing) along with a bit of RP for your character? (If you're so inclined) I'd like to establish more permanent teams, but we kind of need to get this out of the way first.

After the initial surprise, the man known as Wertrar stood there for a second, speechless, running one hand through his gray hair. The life of a mercenary had never been easy, especially after the war, but to see a young man taking the position of his deceased father, one that tends to be short lived by nature, so easily... that was a sign of bad times, perhaps even worse to come.

"Ah, I'm glad to meet you, Sir Sun. Of course, I will give you back the Direbow your father handed me. I hope it serves you better than me, and I aslo hope it does it for a long time. Wellcome to the The Uncrowned."

Figuring out my inheritor. Gimme a bit. Need to reduce this from known bonuses.

-1 Str, -1 Int from brave
-1 str from Nord
-1 str, -2 dex, -1 int from dark hunter.

makes my final result

VIT 5 | STR 2 | DEX 4 | INT 6 | CHR 3 | LUK 4

Given I wasn't clear on how it worked, transfering luk instead of dex.

Final inheritor stats are.

(6, 5)= 6 Vit,
(4, 6)= 5 Str,
(4, 5)= 4 Dex,
(4, 3)= 4 6 Int,
(5, 4)= 5 Chr,
(two 6s)= 2 4 Luk.

Going to apply Brave, and Nord. Will take RITTER.

Brings final stats too

I'll also begin floating the idea of a limited deployment mission to pursue the necromancer in the swamp.

Given our previous experience, you should expect this to be a dangerous mission, with actual combat involved (hence why deployment will be limited).

You should not deploy for this mission if you are pursuing other postings on the job board (I'd prefer it take place simultaneously in the narrative). Because it involves another trek into the woods, the company will sponsor basic foodstuff supplies for the trip (but will share in the rewards, unlike other side jobs). We should still have some supplies left from our previous venture. Quartermaster will need to submit a purchase request for more Panacea.

Depending on interest, I'll cap the number of people who can jump on this Necromancer mission to either 5 or 10 players. If interest is lacking, we can leave this particular quest on the board and just wait for the next "true" mission.

Couldn't post this alongside the sheet due to character limit.

"As one who tends to the soil and earth, my task is to bridge together the land as a means to allow transit for the party. Flat stone is ideal for blocking advances, and sharp stone bites quite nicely into any opposition we've met so far. Those who venture too close with aggression have found themselves impaled with thrown slate, or corralled into party members who can take advantage of the opportunity presented. Personally, my ambition is to learn all I can from the depths of this world, and surface the bounty it holds for others to make aught of use. After all, a stable foundation is the best platform to work from."

(Strangely enough, as a mage Tress is a sort of all-range siege engine, especially due to draw element before a rock jut for an effective 22d6 now. Stuff I've found out that's real useful is a flat rock jut is the easiest molded for intent, being it makes bridges quite nicely, and match 3's can duplicate bloqs in a line. Sharp rock juts spawned beneath an enemy allows a free re-positioning 'bump' which makes for an incredibly efficient means to protect allies danger close. Spare moments and 'free' actions are spent trying out potentially useful tricks to test the limits of the earthen style.)

The output is Atk/2 + Def/2 + Parry/2 = CHR. Your CHR is 7. 10/2 + 10/2 + 10/2 = 15.

6/2+4/2+4/2 = 7. (This gives you a 6atk 4def 4parry ball of wind, a deadly weapon)

With the Ripper having been seen once, and nearly captured it was clear he wasn't going to show his face for a time. However try as he might, Joy had managed to coax the answers from a shaken Fernfael who wandered in on him sleeping in mutters. " No - No Father don't !" he would repeat. Joy found this nightmare peculiar as one would not normally dream about their childhood after fresh witnessing a horrible event unless....

A thunderclap flashed outside and from that moment of daylight Joy sensed it, the looming spires of Apollo's Church stood not so far from the site of the murder.

" Father," she repeated and rushed to get whoever she could round up at that dead of night.

Meanwhile in Apollo's lofty halls were wet footprints and labored groans as a man in black clothes climbed in a hollowed confessor's orb and awaited the light from the man on the other side.

" It is late, Father " said the man who would sit at his seat , "Your blood called for me, and now I have walked into the halls of Sun, surely you brought something for me ? "

" N- No. I am in need, Master. I lost too much blood and in my frenzy I believe someone had seen my face. But I assure you once I am fresh again I - "

" You will make it right " Demanded the voice as a plume of blue fire erupted from Sun Hole. In the darkness illuminated a boy in white robes, a clean incision on his neck as he struggled for breath looked back at the Father.

" M- My boy" The Father shuddered. Anyone - Anyone but him, Master P-Please !

" He is blood good for plucking. The best kind. Unlike the others who were defiled by your ilk and whores. Try it, you will never have a second chance ! "

The altar boy's neck hole bubbled in crimson, his screams failed to escape and the Father's tear brimed gaze turned predatory white as the Ripper's teeth stretched beyond his grimace-turned-grin. Forward he crawled with elongated hands, " Just a taste," He whispered.

=

And the Blue fire turned fiery white. Indeed the confessor's orb became searing hot. Another crash of pots and smoke began to rise from outside as well as in. Saltpowder began to fill the halls !

Joy: Get the authorities ! The missing boy is inside that Confessional ! I'm willing to bet my mate's lives on it !

In no time at all, the doors to the confessional burst forth: The Ripper , dressed in black , his face slaked in blood and given to madness. And a second one whose elongated cape twisted into a shadow and disappeared into a hat.

Joy, Qsitina, and Evergreen held the creature at bay. His attacks unfocused, his movements wild, his emotions in conflict ! A swing of a mace, a clash of shield and claw, and the burst of flaming oil pots made steady progress on the creature until it wavered. Wavered and fell. The nightwatch arriving just then to chain and salt the monster in place as he burned. And burn he did.

"HERE IN THE CONFESSOR'S ORB !" Cried one of the Clerics. And there he was; the boy >

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7JzX4CHJYg

His neck opened like the flaps of a shirt. His body going pale and his breath speeding up and getting faster. On his lips stained the blood of his killer. The cleric had of the sun revolted at the sight and ran whilst the nightwatch busied themselves with the thorough cleanup of the Midian's remains.

The boy's life teetered on the brink between death , life , and the beyond.

I think Strygid also participated in a Card last rest but I'll leave it to the 3 of you to decide which one will bow out.
At least for now as I have a few things I want to attempt prior to starting the 'gig' if you will.

As she stood over the dying child, Qsitina felt the rush of battle fade to be replaced by a cold dread. Without the skill to help, neither mundane or divine, there was nothing Qsitina could do. Except pray. "Luna above, please shine your light upon this wayward child. The sun he swore himself to has been taken by shadow and threatens to cut short this innocent life. Do not let your gentle light be hidden from him as well. I beg of you let your light soothe his pain. Grant to this lost child of Apollo your gentle embrace. Oh Luna, please, please help this child."

" Hmmmmmmm you wouldn't be the first person to ask that question," Honked Pierrot the clown as he swilled the maple draught on this half orb.
The drinking friend met the duelist multiple times on occasion on the road.

" Serpico is turning over every talent they can, the Akademy was even hunting one of [Their Own Teachers] for a chance to gain the good graces of the Fierstroms, and you'd best believe that the Guild Federation will be monopolizing the information on their talents and selling that information on a premium. But clever Pierrot has one idea no one would ever think of - "

" Get someone you know to draw it ! Doesn't your band have a hand or two capable of drawing maps, carving arrows, or even formed statues of ice ? Alternatively, I know someone from the [Troupe] who can remember anyone's face from a single glance, and what's more, this person has entertained for the Fierstroms once before when [her Mother] was still alive ! "As always at least my friend you're great company. And between the two of us the drinks are comparable!"
A legitimate smile on Ghaston's face, cheeks rosy from the time they had been sitting there catching up and discussing. He'd take another long sip from what was in his cup, returning it to the table drained once more.
"I'll see if anyone among my group is capable enough to try. Nothing else, I know a pyromancer and geomancer. With some sand, flame, skill, and a touch of luck they could come up with something unique."

The duelist picks up his empty cup, lifting it to his mouth before drunken eyes recall that it was empty. Frowning for a moment, Ghaston sets it back down before continuing.
"I'll assume the someone you know from the [Troupe] will request an equally high price for such a trick, as aiding with what I seek. Joy looked at this scene, the boy was dying and it was clear from the blood that he had been sired and if he died here with the curse on him, there was no telling what would happen from that point.

The money in her pocket could afford gauze strips and panacea, but would the apothecary be open? How long would it take for Qstina or Evergreen to acquire the materials? Can she keep this boy alive long enough for this supplies to get there.

...No, no there wasn't enough time for any mission of Mercy. That left a very distasteful option.

Joy offered a brief prayer to the all father. "I accept responsibility for everything that happens from this point. Evergreen, please hand me your sword."

>Joy sees no way to save this child that wouldn't be risky and/or put others in danger.

A chamber echoed in prayer as a dozen clerics , and half a dozen huntsman held closed palm under breath as they uttered final rites. Until finally the archer emerged from the light of the confessor's orb, a head cradled in her arms and eyes that have seen a decade of trials under his watchful eye. The altar maids cried in her place, the adepts, and the huntsmen approached respectfully to lift the burden from arms.

" The body will be burned, the head buried as that of a human at dawn " Offered Jeromis, but we will not hold it against you if you rest.

I added my strength into those numbers, I assumed that that was the appropriate stat to use when fighting with the wind ball (sicne I do not have adroit fighting):

1/2 (7CHR) = 4
4 + (6STR) = 10 ATK/DEF/PARRY
Not particularly strong, but in line with other starter weapons like the guild shortsword. Your math would make it a lot stronger. Are you sure that's how it works?

Qsitina cried freely as Joy brought the child's suffering to an end. The boy would pass from this world with his soul intact. Had the boy been of the church of Luna she would have offered to assist in the burial. Qsitina had little knowledge of the church of Apollo's practices, however, and took her leave with Joy and Evergreen. As payment was offered though Qsitina's voice cracked as she said, "I-I can not accept this." Without waiting for the others the young cleric fled back to the inn. Hiding herself in her bed where she could cry in privacy.

'Your brush is as a weapon in more ways than one,' her master once bade her. 'Each stroke must be confident, a strike precise lest the muse evade you and see your eventual demise.' Alswith frowned as she put her brush to the canvas, uncertain then as she is now. Her former master, the Duelist of Tambril, insisted that she learned art as his master before him. It took some time to understand why. Anatomy, precision, perception... it was all there in a sort of code to internalize, to become instinct. But her master was slain before she could complete her training in an act of treachery he foresaw and sacrificed himself to save his squire.

"Tell no one that I've done this for you," she said to Ghaston, applying another uncertain stroke with an eye on a book describing the young Fierstrom whose Crownette would soon happen. There was no telling if her master's enemies still lurked or even cared.

Chapter 3.
=The Usurper and the Architect=

The Monastery doors swung open from both the Sunrise doors and the Moonrise doors opposite. Cloaked figures draped in green were escorted by adepts of Gaia.

Before them already sat a party of Knights numbering no more than a dozen, and squires leashing agitated hounds but panted no louder than a whisper.

Lisbett, Jeromis, Fernand, Ardene, and Alswith took their seats.

More waited from beyond the threshold. But among them had been the prisoners that Countess kept for "safekeeping" along with an arm of the Nightwatch's patrol. All old men that traded flirting looks with nuns in return for crooked toothed smiles.

" A meeting of equals was it ? " Opened Milluda, disenchanted by what she's seeing. " You think those gimp fuckers can take on the last remaining brigade to walk back from the Great Fire, Countess ? "

Lisbett inhaled sharply unmoved by her provocation. " If I came here to fight I would not have even come. Besides, shouldn't we open with gifts ? "

4 Men march in , carrying coffins to a pair and laying it before the table. Milluda and her company stood. The dogs did not bark, but whine.

Inside was bags of grain, jars of flour, fruit, eggs and the suit of armor of the one Milluda called sister.

Milluda: Th- This is.

Another Coffin Opens, and inside was plucked fowl, bottles of wine, blocks of tea, bricks of ham , cheese, and sausages. And the helmet of a silent Knight.

Lisbett: They fought and died with honor. Unfortunately that one there was slaughtered by the Marquis' men. Your sister was long buried with final rites. Due in no small part by the Uncrowned.

Milluda: FASCINATING. AND YOU THINK BALANCING THE SCALES OF THEIR LIVES IN WHEAT AND CHEESE WILL ASSUAGE THE SCOURGE IN OUR HEARTS ?

Her men laugh. But godsdamn they are eyeing that ham so bad.

Milluda: Fine I'll send you gifts of my own then, I wonder how much will you trade for one of yours ?

From the Moonrise door emerged Tovani, carted by wheelchair and bound, wrist and ankle with a blindfold.

> Lisbett's grip on her chair tightened. Perhaps this is the time to speak up in her stead. Only one may speak from each side and roll an appropriate stat but feel free to discuss amongst yourselves.

"I don't dare think this gift will make up for the loss of your sisters in arms. Many of my friends lost their lives at the hands of your men, I saw brave Eleanor fall to a bolt in her back just out of my reach. I've seen that in my dreams more than once since that night, trying so very desperately to do something different that would save her. Yet despite that pain I've had to keep moving, keep fighting on for those still alive beside me. I can tell from the anger in your voice that you've had to do the same. So you ask what we will trade for our own? We will return to you your comrades, in exchange for our own.

Let me add: you consider yourselves our better, because you fight for a cause, where we fight for money. That much you have made apparent, in our interactions. But that dogma is costing you the war. Say you were to be victorious tomorrow. Do you think the people of this land would be grateful to you? You are scavenging in order to survive, much as we do, but in so doing you are undercutting your own cause. My men buy food from the peasants you rob, and in their eyes you have already lost. Was your hope to bring justice to this land by stealing the fruits of its soil from the natives?

Maybe there is another option, if you hear us out. At the very least, maybe you will not need to take food from innocent peasantry, when the nobility is who has wronged you.

At this monologue Milluda calmed , her features sharpened, her eyes cold.

" Spare me your inexperience. My men, and the knights before me have endured grueling marches to the enemy's continent, suffered THEIR blows so that we can see it unvisited on OUR homes. What do I tell those I've seen pass on, that I've seen burn to nothing that in their absence, not a single person will bother to remember their name as they strike it off their deed. Or worse yet, the knights who had to suffer the ignominy of being sold out, told that they have no place to call home and yes - dragged through the mud like /criminals/.

No, these gifts will do nothing to deflect our true aim. It is but kindling to a fire, a pale fire that you should have extinguished, but neither you nor the Marquis or whomever comes after you will be strong enough to handle. No... I will see to it that Lucerne burns like the city of thieves and criminals that it ought -"

" We will release your bumbling messenger, she smells too tart for our tastes. But I would see my brothers safely by my side first. Count on this as the only true deal I would cut with your ilk Countess "

Lisbett: Milluda's conviction has ignited, her hatred and resolve crystallized once again though it seems all is lost it seems she has given us a direction to go on...
>>
>>3281754
Doglus: Fernand is it ? You heard Milluda, what's the point of caring about a people that left us behind. They can eat our arse for all we care. A welcome resident of Ingram's realm they are not.

Another Knight in full mail bearing even a helmet in the proceedings leans against the pillar, yet to speak up.
>>
>>3281849
What then, is your goal here? To install Ingram's daughter as ruler over this land? That self-same daughter who is years-long adopted by and a prisoner of the Marquis?
>>
>>3281849
>>3281879

"If I may," Alswith spoke up, bowing deeply before continuing, "As much as we've exchanged blows in the past, we aren't here as your adversaries. As you may well know, recent events have cast doubt regarding the legitimacy of the Marquis. We're not here as their representatives and, in fact, risk charges of treason to be here so that we may better understand your story."
>>
>>3281879
At last the silent knight finally spoke up:
" What do you know of Tricia !? She signed away her fate. She sold out our family and can no longer look reality in the eye. "

Lisbett smirked.

" Only that in her circumstance , her only two options Was to either submit or die. But, considering what we found out of the Marquis recently , it's possible that death may no longer be an option for her either "

She cants her head.

" I see now, it's quite possible that there may not be a sole heir to Ingram's will after all, but a proxy that would be entrusted to look after her- had he returned safely from the War, Alistair "

The room fell silent and Milluda's stance shifted towards the man in back. Who walked with silent footfalls towards the table. Removing his helmet, a fair faced man with long sapphire hair about Fernand's age gazed down with pale eyes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj1MLNWWRms

" So you are indeed the architect of civilization as they say " Alistair said. " And a sharper interrogator than the Hellsings take credit for "

Lisbett: You are well appraised Ser Alistair. Was Milluda's screed the truth of your band or is there more to your plot ?

Alistair: It's true that we run on cold vengeance at this point, and that perturbing the state of Lucerne is about all we could muster nowadays until we got back our homes. But we had not counted on the Marquis in hiring on the services of an Academic that I would have otherwise applauded you for.

Lisbett: I'd hate to say it, but Lucerne is the city I've come to call my best work, and it would be hard for me to part with it. However, as they say, we didn't come here for Eindorf's sake. In fact it is quite possibly the opposite.

Perhaps you explain to them the details you found out yourself.
>>
>>3281993
Ardene recovered from her earlier failed argument, and perked up at the Countess's statement. "Allow me to take over, I was part of the team that discovered this. I can relay the things I saw." Ardene said, before turning to Ser Alistair.

"We had to travel through the woods to reach your band, as you are well aware. A small party, including myself, were sent ahead in order to scout for potential ambushes and obstacles in our path. With the rest of the party fanning out into the trees with a mobility I do not have, I followed a trail to a small camp. There I found several knights wearing the Marquis's colors, interrogating one of your men. Before I could do anything to help him, they bore fangs and revealed themselves as Midians and quickly devoured him. In my surprise I alerted them, and would surely have died if my fellow scouts did not ambush the Midians in turn. I can still smell that awful, sticky blood. On their bodies, we found Red Rosaries oft carried by their kind. I believe either Fernand or the Countess possess them now. This, and the Marquis's knights surprise visit and similar sudden execution of one of your knights has led the Countess and us to believe that the Marquis is knowingly harboring Midians in his ranks, which means no good for all of us. This is why we've come under the Marquis's nose to meet you, as we know that you have no sympathies for the man."
>>
>>3282046
If you doubt it, here. The self-same rosaries, icons of the Unwanting Virgin, a midian idol.

>present accursed rosaries
>>
>>3282046
Allistair's eyes widened. " So you mean to say that this Marquis, is black of blood. And that Tricia might also be - "

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_Ay_iDRAbc

" Not necessarily. " Interrupted the countess , " While its highly likely that Marquis Eindorf himself is a Midian of high station, it would behoove him to ensure the purity of her Ladyship. After all, she cannot legitimately inherit and rule alongside him until she celebrates her Crownette celebration on her 16th Summer, and for that to be recognized, it's imperative that the Marquis be able to keep up appearances that Tricia Ingram be of sound health , and fit to rule, as a proper human noble of Predatoria. There are other benefits to keeping a human meal pet, but let's not get into that... "

" Even now, it's possible that she's enjoying what freedom is allowed her in order to mingle with High Society under the influence of Eindorf's Geass "

" Geass ? "

" Yes, Midians are capable of exerting their will until it becomes intoxicating and drug-like to their victims. We cannot rule out that your Tricia must have been manipulated in her youth, but at the same time, just what kind of person will this Tricia be after having been penned by this Man for so long ? "
==
Milluda gazed at the rosaries and took one in her hand. After crushing it in her grip it became clear that the beads were fashioned out of teeth.
" They .... "

Allistair: I believe I am thoroughly convinced of our placement on the board. But from one academic to another, one does not simply storm Praedatoria Castle on the backs of Honor and Righteousness, if we are the only number in this room against so many midians we are unlikely to stand a chance lest we bolster our numbers.

" YOU WANT TO SAY THAT AGAIN ALLISTAIR ! WE'VE SEEN DRAKES, THESE BASTARDS ARE NOTHING !"

" WE'LL FEED EM TO THE DOGS !"

" FETH RIGHTEOUSNESS WE'LL RIDE IN ON THE BACKS OF THE SUN TOO !"

A Clamour rose. A Battle cry could not be held back.

> Perhaps we have their attention.

Don't believe we are alone. My men have a unique standing in this.

Do you know I was noble-born? I am of the Axolos, a family name you will never have heard of, and will never hear from again. My home was taken by these creatures - an infestation of vampyres who stole the faces of my parents and brothers and cousins-

When I fled and was cast into the dirt, it was the people I once considered my property who took me in, who taught me how to kill. And with their help I waged a war against my own kin until I'd cast out every last of these monsters from my home and fed the earth ten times over with their blood!

Already, the Uncrowned are slowly becoming the popular talk of the city and beyond. Standing here, in the midst of all the powers of this region - my company can rally the support of the people with the appropriate time and provocation. Once that is complete, we need only create the provocation necessary, that all the peoples of this region will rise against the Marquis - then strike in unison. Midians are voracious creatures - our group need only link a single of their depraved schemes to the Marquis to cause a riot that will consume the whole region. Then, we will have more than enough manpower to carve out this rot at the root.

Apples. Apples in the dark. She hated them. She rather liked them. Each apple meant no execution but the saggy fruit were a bare replacement for water and an actual meal. Eat enough and maybe Tovani would sprout into a tree, grow, resplendent, and burst through the walls of this old, dark cell and-- the door opened. Another apple landed somewhere nearby, sent flying with a brief laugh.

They threw one in every few hours, inciting an awkward, blindfolded fistfight with the skittering rats. Scrabbling hands in the dark and another measure of juice to ward off thirst. Then the waiting. Pacing. Screaming (it did not, she found, help all together much). If Tovani strained to listen, she could hear gods when soft prayers floated through the walls. The low rustle of metal, footfalls, sometimes, a shout. And always, the barking dogs. The knights in this place had a network of patrolling hound sentries to ward against the influence of evil.

They took paranoia to a heightened art form.

The third apple had a worm.
The fifth was old and half-eaten by time.

Ingram's knights were low on supplies. Foraging far and wide. The apples had different taste, so they came from different trees in different soil, and so the growers were the question. Were they willing? How far could a band range and still encounter farmers with produce for the taking? if they took it in force, how long would they last, under siege by the assaults of the Marquis public stance against their brigandry?

Apples. Milluda's war was being lost to apples.

The group had nearly arrived to the Crownette Ceremony, but Thomas comes running up behind them. The squire looking as if he ran the entire way here, a covered canvas in his arms, trying to catch Ghaston or anyone's attention. Finally upon reaching them, Thomas pauses for breath before lifting the cover on the canvas he held.
"They apologize for the delay... but wanted me to remind you."
Thomas looks up at Ghaston, being sure the duelist was focused on him and not the [Portrait of Arena Fierstrom] in his hands.
"You are still not to reveal whom they are. That's all they ask for the work and they apparently told you once already."
Ghaston waves away his porter's words, attention turning to the artwork.
"Yes, yes. I understood the first time. Though I must honestly confess they have outdone themselves and, Thomas, good work getting this to me in such a timely way. Now then, let's continue on before we're late."
>>
>>3282178
Jeromis perked up in attention, " Actually, now that you mention it, are you aware of the Ripper ? Your men had personally taken part in his capture and singlehandedly eliminated he and nearly exposed one other. Terrible tragedy really, for the whole thing claimed the life of an adept he cared for like a son.

When we searched the man's body and performed a posthumous investigation, we found this in his chambers as well.

He throws down a Rosarie, 9 of 16 beads were red and polished , against a remaining 7 waxen orbs.

"My take on the matter is that not only are these being handed out to adherents to Marquis' ilk , but those who do, are given some kind of blessing to use the city as a hunting ground. The beads seem to indicate the number of victims that have been killed, probably under their Master's behest for the Ripper seemed to be going under orders as he hunted the streets of prostitutes. Coincidentally, the number of victims he accrued matched the red orbs on his Rosary. "

" Why prostitutes ?" Alswith asked

" Prostitutes deflower men and women, robbing Midians of their favored prey or next of kin "

" Another observation I had made is that the Wax used to construct the the red orbs is made of bloodwax, the selfsame material that one uses for official missives, takes on a pale color until has absorbed the blood of its sender, causing it to harden when mixed with heat. And as far as we know, Lucerne's supplier is the Notary's Guild in Serpico. As luck would have it, they keep very good notes on who uses their services every moon, as the materiale is quite rare "

" I see... " Lisbette perked up, " Are you suggesting what I think you're suggesting you sly dog ? "

Milluda: We can rob the docks rather easily, these merchants are easily toppled.

Allistair: I'm pretty sure there are other approaches to this...

Jeromis: Indeed , we simply need to record the contents of the book, perhaps even employ the services of an envoy to ply something from the chief secretary, or burgle it.

Lisbette: If we get a registry like that it would be easy to narrow our search, but if we need allies quickly then we must needs put pressure on the church by exposing connections to their red goddess.

Lisbette: Also , Robbery might not be a bad idea, if its your band, securing resources and moving them in our hold. can be arranged if we can stage some bloodless heists, that would provoke the Marquis but deflect his attention from me. The problem is, where to hide it.

Allistair: Ingram famously hid a cache of weapons should he be posthumously wronged, I'm sure you know of this. The problem here however is that it is located at the Mire of Ghru's Swamp where this Necromancer sits. This is definitely a problem my men are ill equipped against.

Lisbette: For now we can use this method of ferrying supplies to you since a coffin or 12 going to the Monastery will not go amiss, even by Eindorf's eyes and ears.

==
>>
>>3282554
Milluda: So Vampyre killer what other ideas would you suggest ? Killing a dozen Midians here or there is satisfying admittedly, but the Marquis' Red Knights are no damn joke. And it's not like we have our own army to fight against them, much less one of the Fierstrom's Calibre.

Doglus : As If I'd pay a gold to see that bitch to march alongside us.

Lisbette: Despite Milluda's forwardness, she fields a good point, we would need nothing short of mutual allies to go against this threat. And even now I find it hard to believe we are entreating each other as such when I am struggling to forget the panic you caused my people.

"Stupid stupid stupid"
The dark had ears. It could sense. A predator in waiting. It feasted, devouring the little sparks of inspiration Tovani tried to forge into a viable escape plan. No small iron wire and so, no lockpick. No shank, and so, no fight. No water - so, no spellcraft. Tovani wasn't a witch, muttered epitaphs notwithstanding. It was Charles' intrepid heat that blazed formations of hounding monsters or Tress' alignment with the deep earth that moved literal mountains and Master Rashinen was a blood-smeared corpse buried in GoGaine fields and his notes implausibly disconnected, offering a cantrip for making water do what it always wanted to do anyway, get cold. Alice would have been out of here yesterday in a fury of steel and giblet stained hallways. Tovani had a broken chair and enough seeds to start an orchard and, along with it, not one way to get out this predicament. Just rats. And the whispering dark.

" First thing I'm going to do when I see Tress again is compliment her actual hair and-- stop biting! "

Another bite of a half-rotten apple. Another hour. Stupid darkness. Stupid rats. One hid the other, and all the skittering creatures wanted was to nibble at her shins and try for the pile of cores. The stern commander was clever. Tovani could have forged a blade of ice with half a pint of well water. Scratched a lesser rune into the ground with the broken chalk, pray the rats didn't disturb it, collect the resonating energy of old, infused places and gather it up like so much windswept essence. But unlike Deneb, you couldn't marshal an array of elements from apple bits and scavengers with whiskers.

" Wait. Go back "

Go back to what?

" That thought. That one. You couldn't ? "

Who are you talking to?

" That's not important right now! You couldn't? "

No. Principally, the essence of vitality is not a fuel for the Draconic work. Like to like. As with the Death Ritter and the Skeleton, each sapped, they only give out Darc, they breathe no air, heartbeat no fire, offer no terrene for the foundation invocations.

" I know IknowIKNOW but. But. Buuuut. What if you did? "
That seems irresponsible. Malerisk' Seventeenth Principle of Sympathic Resonance would indicate that--
" Shut up, me!
Tovani ripped a bottom of her tunic, ripped off the tunic. The cold cell was warm enough.
"Look"
Sharpen the edge on a jutting rock, scratch a rune, however feeble. Place an apple in the rune, climb the broken chair and wait and wait and wait for the littler whisker-headed seeker soul to probe from a corner and see? It resonates. A spell is a spell is soul. Tovani jammed the cracked bottom into the palm of her hand.

The rune flared. The rat exploded. And just for a lingering infinity, Tovani could see . . .

It all makes sense. Interlocking lines and the sparks between the numbers. The voices, the whispers. Blindfold makes the world a shadow-toned lattice of dark spots. But who needs to see? Tovani can listen. Ardene. Fernand. Alswith. Milluda. That accent trace. The Countess.

Tovani hopes she got rid of most of the rat blood.

The Traveling Troupe, famous for their shows and self named Carnivales was also infamous for having their fingers dipped in the information and talent agency trade in Serpico known simply as the Envoy who cultivated favors, padded the seats of social events, and paid lipservice for those who would offer the coin for it.

And today, they were in the mercy of the Fierstrom family, who demanded a celebration for their youngest daughter, a spitfire image of the late matriarch who perished in the war and doted on by a towering Duke, who gained his reputation as "Dragon" purely on his ability to subsist on them during the War.

Sitting at a whole man's height above the table, he had no trouble cradling his petite daughter on his shoulder as if she was still a toddler. The man ate with with a carving dagger as silver ware didn't prevail him any utility, and in time, sea creatures as big as the table before him would shorten in length and disappear between the white void of his teeth. One after another , servants would queue up, dish in hand to climb the ladder to his table place one dish down, and took two away in swift escape to the lower guests where Owl mingled.

The stage show occured mercifully away from his looming presence. Only a few handful would sit besides him and his daughter, the Marquis Eindorf, an ArchBishop and the pale princess of Predatoria lady Eindorf herself. Every once in a while laughter would spring from the crowd as the clowning act would rip a fart joke or 3. When Fierstrom yawned, her father would demand food angrily in frustration, and when she chuckled he would laugh boastfully in her place, shaking the tent's fabric.
" N- Next up , " the Host with an overly sized hat said as he shuffled through a fresh deck of performers , " An ode to the Heroes of the Great Fire - GIVE it UP ! To The Hero; Bhastonne slayer of Dragons ! "

This immediately caught the family's attention as the tent dimmed in twilight and a 4 man dragon costume plodded on the stage , the bardsong starting in a low timbre .

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kv5uoAeGntk&list=PLVPmxivoJSE3mAufujhu7Lcl15Gl5oqSU

Char stood atop the rafters , joining her was a wind wyzarde who held himself aloft in the air a bigger hat, a bigger beard and a story to tell !

The story depicted heroes returning home from their journey , through ice, through snow, through fire and dragons. One of the performers was a female knight who - in the wordless play was among who fell in battle - and of the few surviving, Ghaston parried, hurled through the air, and dodged wispy fireballs that shimmered with ferocity. From the snow rose his lover doomed who picked up sword and courage , danced through the very air and cut the dragon asunder as the song crested.

The Fierstrom Father Shouted in adulation, in joy , in anger, in sadness at the passing of his wife. And thus -
He Clapped. But his daughter was the first to protest.

" How dare they Dad! They made Mama look weak! "
>>
>>3282805
Her father, a man who towered almost to the ceiling of the tent softened in posture and rendered harmless at his sharp daughter's words, but Daughter, it is a play a retelling of legend- a legend about your mother "

She pouted, " Then SHE should've been the Hero ! SHE should've come back ! How dare They make entertainment of Her ! This Hero is a fake ! No ONE would be defeated by such a weak dragon ! "

The clowns shrugged.

The spotlight now remains fixed on Ghaston, who has been holding his posture for the play even through applause, even through the celebrant's protest.
Forlorn Performor: Pssst, Hero you're a duelist aren't you ? maybe you can prove to her that you're not some backwoods performer "

Sweat dripped from the young man's brow, hidden behind the iron hound visor her wore. Not from the physical effort put into their show, but from tension at Arena's protest. However finally Ghaston adjusts his posture, removing the mask and hat he wore. Revealing his unmistakable mismatched eyes before dipping into a low bow before and.
"Pardon, my Lady, but if you desire greater feats of skill to prove my worth. On my honor as Ghaston Skelter of Lindlore, I can prove my worth. If any here of worth wish to show our lovely Crownette the truth of my skill I am willing to face most any challenge."
The duelist would rise from the bow with a flourish, emphasizing his last words by striking the edges of the face takers against one another so as to cause sparks for effect.

The stage cracks. And the DRAGON steps forth.
" It would seem you have been blessed with the oppurtunity of upsetting my daughter." Boomed her father.
" My name is Vulcan Von Fierstrom, Father of Arena Fierstrom and honourable husband of Furianna Fierstrom Late Lord Commander of Angstrom's Left Legion and Honoured Dead of the Great War. Your performance was rousing , duelist but it has upset my daughter so, and - in retrospect I do believe there were some discrepancies of her ability. Some of which I will demonstrate upon you today."

The stage cracked further as the pressure in the room blew out the entrance. Owl, who sat in the back row was sharing concoctions with her new clientelle, who snapped out of her high and realized that something terrible is amiss !

" Hahahahahah" Hacked the Marquis for the first time, " SHOW EM VULCAN I WANT TO SEE BLOOD "

In whisper the towering father may have uttered something. Perhaps an apology. But as soon as the match started Ghaston came at him with a flurry of attacks sometimes too fast for the eye to see but the Dragon, unmoving blocked each blow with a carving dagger and cared little for the other hits for they did nothing on his armor.
" You see boy, Drakes have scales that rival even serpico's best armor, possesses great life force that would sustain an army of thousands, and - "

Then with a single punch arced down on the duelist's mask as he was smashed down on the marble with groan. The celebrant laughed as other guests struggled to chuckle.

" With a single pounce of their claws would rake a man or three in a space of a breadth. And when they at last use their famed breath of fire - "

The man opened his mouth and from it a font of flame that would roast even the hottest of steels into a molten puddle. But it would not be so - for Char has dispersed the flame in majestic spirals. Her form taxed as she nearly falls from the ceiling beams.

" It would be to absorb what aether remained of their ashen VICT TIMS."

He regarded the unburned man and his eye turned to a glimmering portrait, unwrapped by the commotion of forceful winds.

" I see, so you've come bearing gifts. ... What Quality, Such vibrant features, In time I will enjoy looking back at the youthful splendor of my only remaining treasure, and thus I will spare you further harm," Clowns ! Take this man to recover !

Host: A- And that was the Hero and the Dragon , ladies and gentleman ! A double feature !

Heavy clapping filled the hall and as the tense moment got swept away by spirits and mingling the gifts piled as high as a dozen cartes as the lady crowned herself the title of [Princess] by the Archbishop much to the surprise of even her father.

Archbishop: A request directly from the Reagent himself, Duke Vulcan, may your daughter inherit the greatness of her mother.

The whole thing was so gilded that one could not help but bask in shimmering greatness that day...

As Duke Vulcan rose, chiding the young man a dread loomed in the back of his throat. Ghaston's boastful pride seemed to have bitten him squarely by the throat, and as the towering Duke's hand came crashing upon his mask the world became a flash of color and a smear of red. The mask could only do so much to protect that youthful once unmarked face, now a mess of bruised purple and crimson blood. His hawk nose bent and bleeding, as well as a gash above his left brow.
Though even before the foolish lad could react to the blow a wash of heat descended upon him. Immediately soaking Ghaston in sweat despite the quick work of Char, managing to disperse the flames that would have turned him to ash.
The next few moments blazing past him as the punch from the Duke still had Ghaston reeling, he wasn't able to protest against the clowns taking him away. Despite their intent, his normal pride would see it as further failing, his weakness denying the vision he bore with the heft of reality. But still, the Portrait made by their comrade aided Char in saving the duelist's life. As it caught the Vulcan's attention and Alswith's skill was of a level that even the Duke gave it praise, if only the young fool had thought to offer it in apology for his 'poor display' that offended Arena to begin with he wouldn't be bleeding.

>Purchase Iron Weave Undershirt-5 silver

It was nearly noon before Qsitina finally crawled from her bed. Even after washing her face and combing out her hair, the effects of her near sleepless night were evident. “Bless the new moon. For though it hides Luna's light it offers time for reflection and remembrance,” she intoned softly to herself as she dressed. She winced only once as she dawned her vestments. Though only a bruise, her wounds served to remind her of her naivete.

Fighting, real fighting, was nothing like the sparring matches she'd taken part in at the convent. It was dirty and brutal. Faith and righteousness alone would not carry her to victory. It was a lesson hard learned, but learned well. Gathering her few coins Qsitina steeled herself to face the sun's light and set out for the market.
The trip was intended to be short, Qsitina had only a single purchase in mind. Yet after making it she found herself lingering to watch as others went about their business. As she watched Qsitina spotted a familiar shape making it's way through the crowd. Without thinking about Qsitina found herself approaching the imposing figure.

“Greetings, um, Sir Shape? I am Qsitina. We are from the same company, though we have not had opportunity to speak. I-I apologize if I am interrupting you, it is just that-,” She pauses for a moment to gather her thoughts and take a breath, “You have heard of the hunt for the ripper I presume and of it's tragic end? I can not help but dwell on the fate of that poor child. Not that I blame Lady Joy for her actions of course! It was Luna's own mercy she gifted him. Yet, I can not help but question how it came to be. How could a priest of Apollo fall so far from grace without notice? How could he allow himself to commit such atrocities? How could-oh, excuse m! I d-did not m-mean to burden you w-with my worries.”

The Shape gazed at the sparkle of his newly-sharpened knives in the sun. He was mesmerized by the light dancing along steel and silver. The glitter of blades was the only thing The Shape liked more than an expressive face.

Enchanted by his blades, The Shape did not hear the newcomer approach. It was not until she began to sing that The Shape took notice. Mildly startled, The Shape jerked his blade from the light like a child caught in the act and sheathed it. The Shape tapped his mask.

Tap.

It was a girl who sang to him a pleasant song painted with trepidation, dressed in the garb of the Moon-taken. The Shape was puzzled. What did the Moon want with him?

It was slow, but The Shape remembered. The Moon-taken had joined after the first payment, and fought for the fort. When Joy returned with the bear-cat, dead once again, the Moon-taken went out to hunt. The hunt had been successful, and yet none of the hunters wore happy faces.

The Shape turned to look at the Moon-taken. He did not fully understand the Moon-taken's song, but he did pick up the accent notes of anger when she sang of the Sun-chaser. Their quarry must have been one of them.

The Shape briefly wondered what sort of face the Sun-chaser made when he died.

Tap.

The Moon-taken's song had come to an end. The Shape noticed a split second too late. He thought that this was the part when he was supposed to sing back, but The Shape had no song to sing. He was unsure what to do.

So The Shape handed the Moon-taken a sweet-roll. Then he stood and watched.

"O-oh, thank you," Qsitina said accepting the sweet-roll, "We did not often get such treats as this at the convent. My favorites were the hard candies merchants sometimes brought. I like sweet-rolls too of course!" As if to prove her point Qsitina took a large bite of the sticky bun. "Ish, sho, shweet," she managed around the mouthful. Then for a time the pair walked in silence as Qsitina ate, only occasionally bursting into giggles as a bit of frosting attempted to escape. When at last she finished licking the last of the sweet-roll from her fingers Qsitina offered The Shape a bright smile. "Thank you, I think I needed that. 'Do not fret over Luna's waxing and waning. She turns as she pleases.' The head cleric at the convent used to tell me that when I came to her fretting over some little thing," she sighed as she let the word's meaning sink in, "What happened was no little thing. Yet fretting will get me no where will it? All we can do is continue walking in Luna's light and strive to prevent such tragedies from occurring again. Oh! I'm sorry for talking so much! The other sisters always told me I should listen more and talk less. You know, you're very good at listening Sir Shape. Did you know that?"

Alswith, on seeing Ghaston battered, insisted that he sit down and ordered the glowering young man to sit still while she bandaged him up. Ghaston reached a hand up to his face while she reset his nose. This was met with a swift swat of the offending hand and Alswith chided him. "Stop shifting so much!"

"The whole front of my face feels broken", he protested, squirming.

"It's not that bad. You just need some time to heal up. The swelling should already be going down.."
>>
>>3283774
Despite knowing she was right, the young man's pride hurt worst of all. But the reality of stronger foes leaving him with a busted nose instead of dead did muster some of Ghaston's spirit. So with a sigh, though only slightly less fidgeting, the duelist doesn't attempt to interfere with the aid being provided him further.
"Still don't... ack expect my nose to be-eeeee! The same as it was... he basically flattened it!"

I need people's consideration of the situation. We have a couple of obvious leads to follow.
>The Notary Guild's register of Bloodwax purchasers (Provides leads toward possible midians in Lucene, Larceny involved)
>Scour the Swamp of the Necromancer (Recover Ingram's weapon cache, gain further Scholomance & popular reputation)
>The Church of Apollo's Presence (Do we force them to act via exposure, or gain them as allies? In any case, how?)

To my eye, destroying the Necromancer and recovering Ingram's cache for Allister is a task only we can accomplish (with difficulty). It will also simplify matters of supply for this rebel band, and prevent their destruction at the hands of a third party. But we would gain more strength by finding a way to twist the church's arm into assisting our cause - perhaps one of our clerics can provide a lead and understanding of their part in this (their red goddess?). And we cannot expose the conspiracy at all without leads on midian activity - the easiest way which is the Notary Registrar in Serpico.

>Suggestions? Ideas? Roles for world lore tied to your character? I think at least the 5 at the monastery are free to figure some details out here.

>Bacon has expired and we're removing it from inventory. The following is just an RP opportunity. Also, thanks to Alice for the pic lol

The bacon was starting to turn. It wasn't there yet but Alswith noticed the difference when she gave a brick a testing squeeze and a delicate appraising sniff. Thoughts of her brief yet all too long a time at the Saent Amridge Orphanage flooded her thoughts. In the year and a half she spent there, meat had only crossed the table once and it sparked anger in her now. No one knew where she got the chef hat from but she stood at the head of the table now, wielding a pair of cooking tongs like a scepter. Or a mace. "What do you mean you can't eat anymore?," she demanded.

"We're stuffed, and...," someone started, but the Deputy Quartermaster smote them with the tongs before they could go on.

"EAT THE BACON!," she ordered again, roaring this time.

""N-no please--"

"EAT IT!" Alswith was grabbing fistfulls of steaming bacon and jamming it into their throats now, still seething. She could feel the warm, umami filled grease coating her arms up to her elbows as she kept pulling up gobs of pork flesh to force feed members of the Uncrowned. The 13 year old Squire was small but she was quick and she worked like a machine, digging away at the mountain of fatty meat and filling the mouths of her bloated comrades.

Then someone threw up and Alswith stood up sharply.

"I heard that! Who did it? I SAID WHO DID IT?? WHICH ONE OF YOU SLIMY FETHING, THIN BLOODED PIECE OF SHIT TWINKLE-TOED COCK SUCKERS DOWN HERE JUST SIGNED THEIR OWN DEATH WARRANT??," She stormed down the table, rattling the tableware as she trundled across, "YOU DON'T KNOW HOW GOOD YOU GOT IT! MEAT ON THE TABLE! GUARAN-FETHING-TEED! BY THE COMPANY!" She came to a halt at the opposite end of the table. "NOBODY, HUH!? The Faery Fething Godmother did it! Outstanding. I'll just-"

"Bgawk."

"What?"

"Bgawk."

Alswith scanned the table and saw Alice. Only, something wasn't right. "Bk bk...," Alice said, staring at her with vacant eyes while reaching a hand out to brush Alswith's cheek.

"Alice..?," she ventured. Uncertainty filled her previous anxiety and anger.

"Bgawk," she said again, then lightly pecked at her head.

"H-hey!"

Alice continued pecking at her head, grabbing Alswith's head with a pair feathery hands until she awoke, bolting upright in bed to send a chicken flopping across the room and a wooden ladle clattering to the floor. Pulling off a pillowcase that was draped atop her head, she jumped out of bed, got dressed, and ran out to the storehouse. There was bacon to cook and serve before it goes bad.

>>3284497
My current thought is that we can have Allistair's people raid the Notary while gathering supplies at the same time. Meanwhile, we move to deal with the Necromancer and secure the storage facilities for the booty acquired from the raid. The data provided by the Notary could then give us information we can investigate, perhaps giving us information needed to both gain allies within the Church of Apollo (or elsewhere) while allowing us to identify compromised members in their ranks.

Hopefully with two operations happening within roughly the same timeframe, this will leave us room to then follow up with the Church of Apollo. I'm not sure if it's possible to probe the Apollons(?) with a small team at some point or perhaps send an envoy? It's probably not much of a secret that something dark happened there at this point.
>>

While not particularly one for deception, finding leads to possible midians in Lucene may also give light on more information regarding the necromancer in the swamp, and benefit the party for a bargaining point to which the church will be forced to respond to. Of these three paths, the only one that grants knowledge of the opposition seems the most apt to choose.

>>
>>3284810
I really wanted to close the curtains on Linksof's story and drop him out of the game, I will probably return in the future but for now I just want to retire Linksof and have him ride into the sunset.
More adventures await the great Linksof but not with the Uncrowned. Adventure and fortune calls him to wander and explore the world not to stay with a company of mercenaries.
Perhaps a friend he meets on the road will seek the company of the uncrowned and join them. But for now Linksof's stay with the uncrowned comes to an end.

Alswith ran after Linksof and thrust a huge bundle into his arms. "Take these and eat it quickly!," she said. "Oh, and good luck!"
>>

At breakfast, with the sizzle and smell of the bacon in the air, Alice had received her portion of repast from the cook. "Is something wrong, Alswith?" the hunter inquired, noting the young squire was staring at her with a strange expression.

"N-no," Alswith had said, or something to that effect. "It's nothing. Please, enjoy your bacon."

Alice surmised, as she walked away with her meal, that the young lass was merely feeling the stress of battle, and would soon recover. Whatever it had been, it hadn't affected the food, which tasted fine. Alice chewed on a strip of bacon as she envisioned a future day's killing.

I believe the Necromancer is the best target. The weapon cache is a benefit. The threat is removed, and it solidifies control of the land for the Countess. I also have a suspicion: Deneb the Necromancer went hunting for the Rebels when the Marquis Midians did. I think their interests are aligned. So, removing one will perhaps tell us about the other. What is a Midian but a peddler in Undeath? And the Vambies are infected by a bloodborne pathogen. They seemed to work with the Necromancer too. Fighting, then capturing, then destroying Deneb will teach us.

In Port Serpico, the Notary Guild will wait. Their ledgers will not be destroyed. But moving on them will make it obvious that people are hunting for information that others may want to hide, and so, once we make our move, they will. Therefore, we can wait, perhaps while others cause a ruckus.

The Church I do not know. Albeit, perhaps destroying a Necromancer will buy us an audience with those who shepherd souls and fight the Undead?

>Perhaps Wyrd Lore can tell us about the nature of Necromancy, and if Deneb is likely to have a need for supplies that implicates others are supporting their efforts?
>>
>>3284497

Gaining popularity by knocking off the Necromancer would be good. From there, we can use that newfound popularity as leverage (among other things that may be inconvenient and best forgotten by the general populace) to get them to cooperate with us.

Neromancy, from an academic standpoint had been a hotly debated topic ever since the No Life King of Midia gathered all manner of magical practitioners and researchers of Qi to found a method to everlasting life. The result of that experiment came to be known as the Blight, or so Legendarians claim. From it came all manners of unlife, as well as multiple methods to unleash life on corpses, enabling it with the barest of instincts. Biologically was the black blood said to have given terrible life to present day Midians and from there on, further impurities would come ghouls, vambies and so forth.

Magically, it is also possible to seperate the soul from the body, thus confirming the existence of spirits and the forces beyond, and then impel such a soul, sometimes indiscriminately, to occupy a vessel. To do so would require [Souls] , a larger more complex form of Spirit that simply can't be parsed as anything smaller.

Other more dubious methods of hexing a corpse back to life, was for the most part briefly warned against with the same instruction: Salt and Destroy.

If the Blackblood Vambies are degenerate kin to Midians, and they prowl these Woods, it leads to a suggestion:

They were likely set here to capture and infect Rebels. A terror weapon meant to build up in the woods, pushing those who normally hide there away from a place that offers shelter. To seek the cities and the protected townships.

The Akademy had trouble with infection. Serial Killers with rosaries prowl the streets of Lucerne. It all ties together, blackblood, midians and the walking dead.

This isn't a scrabble for territory. It's the opening stages of a banquet.

=The Red Goddess and other Fallen Gods=

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ahfb7M7jYvA

The Unwanting Virgin as midian lore described, speaks of the many fallen gods of this world that are worshipped by monsters and are said to have been cast out from the celestial heavens and left to languish on this world until the end of days.

Of them was the Red Goddess, Phobos, who was once a distant sister of Luna and the many maidens that served Mars. took upon herself all the starving children of Midia, cursed with unlife, blackened from sense and used her godhood to continouosly offer up her blood until they regained their humanity and much more. When Phobos fell out of favor from both Gods and Man, her singular spirit of mercy was solely given to those she kept alive who wanted no judgement nor guidance from her, but simply her blood, her body, and her everlasting bounty of life.

And who were they to oblige such a gift ?

Through the strength they inherited her gentle grudge against the unjust gods.
Through the wisdom they gained was her wish to rejoin the center of the world, and her hope of returning to godhood.
and at last,
Though she did not erase their hunger, it was in her own silent words a sign of her love to them, and a blessing that what they do to this world --

is Completely Acceptable.

=Bread, Blood, and Bed =

From the Treatise of War, by Hermit Scholar.

In desolate dunes where even bodies fail to soil, and supplies had become scarce from an army that only grew in number, instead of paring down from attrition. King Salazar saw this unprecedented thread in his conquest and was quick to get his seers and scholars to calculate and divine a proper answer.

A single cut of bread, a sip of water, and ample rest was the answer. Marches began before dawn, concluded at noon before the gods' most judgemental eye came to crest and the armies would make camp for prayer and repast, while officers compared maps and patrols would seek out merchants for information. While these conditions rivaled that of beggars; prayer, morale, and discipline kept the army in check "

>Every day on the field , a minimum of one food unit, a sip of liquid, and rest is needed to prevent [fatigue] [hunger] and ailments from building up.

Fatigue: Every day without rest accrues a stack of fatigue, 24 turns of activity will accrue much of the same thing. Each stack of fatigue will decrease the shade of dice by 1.

Hunger: Every day without -any- food consumed will cause Hunger to build up, causing VIT to decrease by 1 and MAX HP to decrease with it. at 0, the character dies. This applies to all humans currently.

Drinking may assuage the effects of a single Fatigue and Hunger stack for a day but it will not remove them. Furthermore events from weather and the environment may occur that will require one to consume liquids lest they fall ill to its effects.

" Eventually however a diet of water did not save the Oasis city of Ewer as they soon resorted to cannibalism. Much to his anger, Saladin decreed the city abominable to the gods and burned it to the ground, striking its location off the map. "

With renewed confidence, and a new friend, Qsitina parted ways with The Shape. Looking back to wave one last time she promised to repay him for the sweet-roll. After returning to the inn to collect her equipment and pack a small lunch, Qsitina made her way to a small clearing just outside of town. It was all well and good to say she would strive harder to prevent tragedies such as the previous night, but without the strength or skill to back up her words she knew she would only get in the way.
The training drills Qsitina practiced where the same she had been drilled in since she had first been trained in armed combat. She moved through the steps with practiced ease. Raise the shield to block and advance, bring down the hammer to attack and step back. Again and again she repeated the motions, each time blocking a different imagined attack from a different weapon, changing her stance and posture accordingly. Each attack attempting to exploit a different imagined opening forcing her to change the angle of her attack. By the time she was done sweat dripped from her brow and her heart pounded in her chest.

" By dawn we set out, through crows I have outlined my instruction to my men, mirrored sunlight to act as our signals to each other and instructions that were then to be passed down to the Uncrowned. Today we move to reclaim the armoury. And by tea I meet with the Marquis, no doubt distracted by his trip with the Fierstroms. "

Fernand, I suggest Speed. Our smaller party can traverse the forest, while the larger Uncrowned Company make their way. Squire Page has good ideas.

Area Control is an issue for us. Oilpots can help. If you are willing to volunteer to form a squad, we can acquire some oilpots for you to use when working together against multiple foes. But you'll need a source of fire, someone with a steady arm and a promise that none of you all will go and start burning everyone else.

Also, my captors impressed me with the adorableness of their hounds. If there is a Squire or an Archer with 10 XP to Spare, the Company can put down required investment to pay for you training in Wardog Management and for us to get a mascot.

These beasts are excellent trackers and respond to the presence of unnatural beasts. They would make truly capable forward scouts. If you are willing to be a Houndmaster, let me know. The only stipulation is that you are willing to place yourself to the front of line, so that their keen senses and mobility can be used to best effect. And also care and love the damnable pests /and/ take them for /walks/ so I don't have to.

Finally, the Vambies in these woods swarmed to our rear last time. I suggest any Archers with spare baggage acquire Rolls of Spikes. They can protect our lines. These things are 8 copper, so I don't know that you need any financial aid in getting them, but if you're flat-broke...

A bead of sweat slid down Ghaston's cheek, plaster still on the young man's nose. Standing alone in the forest at the edge of town, he swings the axe once more through the air. Ignyllian axe glimmering in the light filtering through the trees before it sinks into one with a thunk. The duelist rotates toward the haft of his axe, knocking it free, before slashing the tree with his claw equipped right hand. Ghaston takes a few steps backward, a loud crack echoing through the surroundings as the tree he'd been training on couldn't sustain its own weight any longer.
It came crashing to the ground a dozen or so feet to his left, Ghaston leans against another tree with a long sigh in response. Returning the axe to its holster, he slides down the tree until coming to rest on the ground at its base. Draping his clawed right hand over the matching knee, Ghaston lifts his left hand to cover the plaster supported nose on his face. The duelist's mismatched eyes glare from between his fingers, filled with a fiery purpose.
"Duke Vulcan Von Fierstrom, thank you for the harsh lesson. But I will best you one day and prove that I'm more than just some boy of a duelist."
He pauses, removing the hand from his face to dig up a hand kerchief to wipe his face with. The fire in his eyes dimming, hawk like features softening.
"Even if I wasn't directly representing Viscountess Elfriede Von Mircalla, losing in such a fashion isn't acceptable. I must improve myself. How can I consider myself a Hero at all if I am beaten in such a manner. So the only path before me is to overcome... or falter and fade into ash myself..."

Still unknown to Ghaston, was the missive in return from the one he sent his Mother informing her of Eleanor's death and Ghaston's intent to fight alongside the Uncrowned in her stead for a time. Finally deciding to return from his self induced training, the duelist returns to town and is given this missive. Thanking Thomas for holding it, Ghaston heads to the inn, finding an empty table to sit at and relax before the company would be off to handle the necromancer. Eventually opening the missive, scanning it with his amber and green eyes though his face darkens. As he finished reading it, Ghaston crumples the missive and tosses it upon the table before him. It read,

"Son,
Have you not wasted enough time on the death of that one? She chose to abandon the family and travel the mountains. Death's cold grip comes for us all eventually my foolish boy, finish your mourning and return at once. You chose to become a Duelist for the Viscountess, why are you not at her side and of use? If you dally or you dishonor her while playing mercenary, we may suffer the consequences in your stead. Return home, immediately.

Having sated the hunger of the company, Alswith ditched her apron and picked up something she had been sculpting the entire time she was serving. Formed from bits of bread, she held in a hand what looked like an anthropomorphic chicken with the trappings of a Dark Hunter. Taking it with her back to the main hall where she left her book, she caught sight of Ghaston who seemed to be troubled by something. "Ghaston," she called from the doorway with anthropomorphic-bread-hunter-chicken in hand but forgotten for the moment , "Everything okay?"

A long drawn out sigh escapes Ghaston's lips as he glares at the crumpled missive on the table before him. Sitting there a good few minutes, motionless compared to the noise and motion of anyone around the inn. Lost in thoughts of what he should do next, what options he even had, and disgust that even in death his mother would spurn Eleanor. Just for leaving home on her own, to find her a path Eleanor could call hers. Until Alswith entered the main hall carrying her bread sculpture and spoke his name. The voice of a comrade softened his features some and a half heart smile would be on his face as he turned toward the sound.
"Ah Alswith it's just. Just."
The duelist blinks a few times, going silent a few moments, and his gaze having drifted to the bread creation in Alswith's hands.
"That is interesting. Someone... or your creation perhaps? It's got a certain charm, though... Sorry!"
Ghaston apologizes lifting his left hand to gingerly stroke the edges of the plaster on his nose. Sighing and reaching for the missive he'd crumpled on the table after a few moments.
"Sorry, Alswith, you asked a question. The sculpture I'd like to know about, but first I'll explain. My Mother finally replied to the missive I sent her at learning of Eleanor's passing. And... the way my Mother is, she merely frustrated me. Tis all."
>>
>>3302190
Upon noticing Ghaston's gaze, Alswith shifted the bread sculpture in her hand, obscuring it behind her back. "Family can be quite complicated," she thought aloud, "I didn't mean to intrude, I forgot I had left my book here..." Sure enough, a book sat on a stand by the fireplace, bound in green canvas and foiled with gold lettering. 'A Grande Historie of þe Valknyrre Houses'
>>
>>3302855
Watching Alswith grab their book from near the fireplace, Ghaston nods while his gaze drifts down to the crumpled letter.
"No intrusion, I was lost in thought. Though, complicated is a good way to describe my Mother. Seems she cares little for the loss of her daughter and merely demands I return to Viscountess Elfriede..."
However a more wry smile crept upon Ghaston's lips.
"But, I haven't the coin to send my Mother a response. So I'm honor bound to gain that coinage and reply am I not? As well as the coin to repay my debt over my new axe. Guess I'll have to aid in the next Uncrowned job anyway."
Squeezing the missive crumpled in his hand even tighter, Ghaston's gaze finally lifts back up to Alswith. His eyes shone with some small semblance of life once more and that wry smile of a child about to cause trouble still on his lips. Though overall it still looked as if Ghaston hadn't slept for days.
>>
>>3305934
"I'm sure your blade will be appreciated wherever you go." Placing the book in a square of cloth and the strange sculpture atop it, she bundled it into a satchel. "But it won't shine as brightly without rest. You look tired."
>>
>>3306174
"You are likely right. More sleep would do me well."
Ghaston then stands, using the table to aid in lifting himself up. Glancing at the crumpled missive still in his hand once more before nodding at Alswith.
"I'll be off to find some rest then. Enjoy your read, friend."
