But it rises again wounded and lacking a horn as it screams.

Your blows are parried expertly as the bloodletter counters the disintegrating might of the power field with his own warp forged blade as you spar on even ground with this monster.
But then your skill begins to show itself as you smash and crack the daemonic pommel with a mighty strike as you hit with the fury of man.
"A WORTHY FOE" the beast cries in its eightfold tongue as it too is spurred to greater skill by the eldrich fury of its lord.
Your blows begin to connect further as you hit low looking for the legs and forcing the beast to dodge before straining your armor to surge high catching the daemon off guard and badly wounding its face.
"NO I WILL NOT DIE HERE I WILL CLAIM YOUR SKULL FOR THE SKULL THRONE!"
Its next strike smashes into your pauldron cracking the ceramite and nearly spearing your flesh.
But in its haste your rear your sword once more to exploit to opening and rip your sword from its head to its knees as you split the daemon in two.
"FOR THE EMPEROR"
You cry as your brothers are reinvigorated by the daemons death as cultists flee at the sight of their dead saviour.
The battle afterwards is a slaughter as cultists are culled and the land is purified.
"You have shown strength brother.Dorn looks upon you this day"
Chaplain amadeus shouts.
You have done your duty to the crusade.
But you once more yearn for the next battle.
It is in your nature.
You are astartes.
You are the emperors fury.

You can get better by spending time in the cages and just gaining more combat experience to lower the DC of the fights.(80-70-60)
But even fluff marines will fucking die to a lot of shit.
You are a devastator marine.
Even dante CQC legend loses most of his local forces when he fights Ka bandra.
So dont expect you charging across the field at ahriman or swinging blows with kharn to end well.

The black templars have stood fast on many more fronts this day as while the breaches were made into the chaos fortresses the foe launched a bloody assault.
Thousand sons sorcerers summoned a great horde of daemons to fight alongside their mortal allies.
The imperial guard was hard pressed as across the line thousands died to the wailed screeching of cultists as lasfire was drowned under a tide of brutalised flesh and heavy weapons teams were fried in their dugouts by great streams of immaterial flame coming from the bolters of the 15th and the hands of the damned librarians.
The templars were victorious as bolt shell and chainsword shattered ragged carapace and ripped apart flesh of cultist and daemon alike.
Even though the astartes proved their worth as blood soaked the field and heroes made individual feats of valour many guardsmen died to the unstoppable horde of the warp and the unassailable hulls of ashen rubricae which lasfire could not pierce.
The basilisks did their duty and the bastions are breached but a heavy toll has been taken by the mortal men of the imperium.

10 templars dead.
16 regiments badly bloodied and reorganised into lesser remnants.

as you enter salutes go out as the cadian general stops his talk and silences his subordinates to greet you.
"lord astartes it is good to see you with us with your might we should see these traitors off.We are conducting a 3 pronged assault on the bastion with an armored spearhead into the main gate to smash it open and allow the assault to begin in earnest alongside a smaller wave that will swarm through the holes in the wall to disrupt the defenders and prevent them from attacking our tanks.The final assault of the operation is a sabotage operation of karskin squads using a hellbore drill to smash into their basements to potentially disrupt whatever ritual they are planning or failing that hit the defenders from the rear.

You are currently using your superhuman agility to keep up with the charging column of armour as the speartip begins firing at the great walls of the bastion.
You shoulder and shoot a few bursts of your own as you melt stone and fry whatever pitiful scum was hiding behind their combusted cover as you yourself shrug off the hail of gunfire and dodge the bolters of the 15th.

the vox screams with priority targets as you shoulder your cannon and fire.

Demolisher shots pound at the gate as ceramite and durasteel bend under the barrage until the gate gives and a hole is formed for the guard to push.

The scorching fire of lasfire is now met with the hoarse screams of the cultists as they utter heretical oaths in the name of the chaos gods.
as guardsmen sell their lives in the breaches they begin to falter as bayonets are met with crude axes and salvaged knives and lasfire is met with stub rounds as carapace breaks and blood surges.
But for every guardsman that dies 10 more take his place as the breaches are stormed by flamer troops as the cultist hordes are driven back by holy promethium and guardsmen spill into the inner bastion as cultists are driven towards hastily dug lines before the citadel and grenadiers spill from the imperial lines to dig them out.
The russ company moves as well as they smash through the gate and turn their cannons on the mass of cultists in their barracks as ammo stores are exploded from battle cannon rounds and makeshift bunkers are shattered by demolisher fire.
You charge with your brothers as well but are lagged behind as you are forced into cover from entering the gate as streams of warpfire erupt from the sons lines and you begin trench fighting of your own as patreus shoots and smashes a rubricae limb just to catch an errant warpbolt that hits through his armour and penetrates the carapace leaving him wounded and you are forced to provide cover with your cannon and drive off the foe while the guardsmen push unsupported.

As the battle continues screaming bolts of lasfire erupt across skies stained with eldrich warpfire as the imperial guard makes their breakthrough as cadian blood shines through and the cultists begin to break and splinter as pinpoint strikes from the russ company devastate fighting positions and shock troops smash into the trench line and begin a bloody bayonet duel.
You call for evac and Patreus limps off the battlefield in a chimera as your brothers raise an apothecary to aid him.
Your duty to your brothers done you raise you fury and fire full force into the rubricae lines as you shrug off stub fire as you smelt pauldrons with righteous plasma as you prove the decisive attack as the sight of imperial demigods smashing through their own astartes breaks the cultist line as they either retreat into disgusting holes and crevices or the more stalwart pull back to the safety of the inner citadel or fight to the death against the men of cadia.
The rubricae and the aspiring sorcerers use the cultists as a distraction to funnel into the citadel and save what is left of their forces.
The courtyard is won and the men are assembling.
It is time to breach the inner citadel and face whatever foul concotion the thousand sons have made.

But then an eldrich screech forms that shatters ears and disrupts communication.
Suddenly vox systems alight.
"This..this is sergeant cassie of the 186th karskin we have failed in our duty the the..traitors have summoned something and its instoppable!"
the vox dies as the sounds from the tower cease.
A great rumbling then appears as guardsmen steady themselves and you of the astartes ready for battle in the name of sigismund.
At last the great doors of the tower smash open flying meters away as they crash with a thunderous sound on the floor.
Lasfire hits the opening and the concentration takes down the initial push as squads of rubricae fall to the burning wrath of man.
But then a great push of flesh streams towards the lines as you fire your cannon to stem the tide as a screaming horde of horrors stream forth in an unending tide forever reincarnating themselves in an unstoppable unchanging horde.
And then alongside the horrors comes a squad of terrors that would break mortal men.
5 exalted sorcerers come forth striding as titanic demigod mage warriors to bring death to the imperium and those who would dare defy them followed by lesser but no less deadly amounts of aspiring sorcerer understudies.

As the sorcerers join the fight great tendrils of eldrich fire erupt from their bodies as countless guardsmen and horrors are fried before their physic might.
You meet this push of fire with your own as the plasma emitted from your cannon strikes down the battlefield frying all in its path as the endless spawning horrors are annihilated as they clone straight back into the path of lasfire until your plasma finally hits its target as one of the sorcerers is stricken by your blast and erupts like a physic bomb frying one of his subordinate sorcerers in the blast zone.
The sons of prospero react to this with wrath and begin to switch targets and prepare to bring death to you however their laxity proves their downfall as like its namesake a leman russ demolisher brings ruin to the sorcerers and impacts in the center of their coven as pauldrons are shattered and ceramite cracks.
Opportunistic sharpshooters take their chances as the sorcerers lose limbs and bodily functions as their carapace is tested against the wrath of cadia and more of the aspiring sorcerers are cut off from the shields of the exalted and left to the lethal mercies of the guard sharpshooters as the sons ranks falter and rubricae fall back to being barely moving automata without a leader.
The vox screams over your helmet.

"This is captain oberon to brethren wulfrik Stand fast against those wyches support is incoming from above.prove the might of the templars on this world before the horrors of the maleficarum."

The reorganised sons of prospero make their stand as the russ tanks of the guard are telekinetically thrown across the trench line evaporating what poor souls stand in its path as emplacements are smashed and the line falters.
But it does not break as you move to do the will of dorn as you fire your cannon forcing the sorcerous sons into psy shields to dissapate a round of plasma and boltfire and vengeance grenades are thrown off course and instead detonating horrors and throwing limbs sky ward.
The guard fights further as bayonet trades with claw and rubricae warpbolt is reconciled with the wrathful fire of militarum bolter teams.
But salvation is at hand in this dark hour.

A great bolt of immaterial fire erupts as air pressure erupts and a purple cloud shrouds the area...

Terminator armor charges forth as storm bolters and power fists begin to claim daemonic lives and the great wrath of the thousand sons is suppressed as the librarians of aurelia begin their physic duel but leading the charge is a grand man of red a pinnacle of a space marine.

"ALL FORCES THIS IS CHAPTER MASTER GABRIEL ANGELOS LET US DRIVE THESE TRAITORS TO THEIR DEATHS"
A great thunderhammer smashes into the chaos ranks as daemons are smashed before it and condemned to death and the eternal wrath of their god before the strike of a demigod in the flesh.

The blood ravens continue their charge as terminators rip and tear through the daemonic forces and librarians scorch the sorcerer line.
But the hero of the hour is the black templars as you stride forth with the purpose of dorn and the wrath of sigismund and fire your cannon and eviserate countless horrors before turning your desperate wrath upon the thousand sons as they desperately try to defend in vain as your shot scorches ceramite and you reduce the amount of sorcerers to one exalted and his beaten lackeys as the sons line erupts in deathly warpfire that scatters around and the sky lights up with baleful purple as the sons use their last energies to blacken the skies.
As the skies fill with warpfire the wrath of the blood ravens is blunted as thunderhawks are pulled off course to avoid the physic backlash and keep their company safe.
The daemons spend what they can and surge once more in a final assault to batten down the imperial forces in a last stand as the last of the sons prepare a profane ritual.

Tldr;black templar devastator kicks ork ass on armageddon and burns thraka and becomes a sword brethren because of it.now going on a crusade to liberate some worlds in the screaming vortex ending in a forge world of the dark mechanicus.
the quest premise is that you are a normalish marine.
but it is on fluff for everyone so while you can and have killed a herald of khorne that is also a small fry in the daemon hierarchy so we are a marine training to be the best in our weight class it seems.
you can rank up and do better things but this is it for now.
combat range is you can fight lesser daemons comfortably and also some less skilled chaos marines but veterans of the HH and anything higher than lesser daemon level will fuck you up.
And in xenos terms you can beat a tau warrior but will probably lose against a battlesuit.
and you are terribly equipped for fighting against eldar so i suppose you could take out what armour they have if their farseer is an absolute failure.

Chaplaincy will make sure you are seen as pure and cant be called chaotic and can also physically check that you havent picked up any memetic chaos bullshit.
to expand into a skill path like going and becoming a techmarine or choosing the path of the chaplain or studying to become a captain yourself will require you to speak to the veterans on the strike cruiser as discussions on ethos and promotion paths are difficult to set up in a battlefield situation.
but yes speaking to the chaplains will help you with the upgrade path as you cant do it if you stink of chaos bullshit and have no idea what chaplains are.

Before long however you enter the long halls of a mechanicus enclave and smash your way past whatever rabid servitors and ragged turrets operate until the priests make their way to the inner bastion and begin preparing the rite of operation.

The doors open with a mighty groan as chains and machinery shrugs off century old rust as the enclave reveals its prize.

7 turns means that you get 7 rolls with the bonus before it runs out.
In short this means it reverts to a +5 after it runs out compared to a chainswords constant +10.
This means that if you end up in a protracted boarding operation or a large scale battle or otherwise get cut off-(faulty drop pod)

You banish the thoughts from your mind as you move with purpose.
As you and the team navigate the wreck of this imperial world the cultists grow bolder with a great push that slows you down as they begin to find purchase and break the instruments of the techpriests.
You manage to make it to the final vault as you purify the hive scum that occupy the entrance to this area.
But soon auspex readings show ill as the techpriests perform their rites.
A great screaming noise smashes forward as the cultists have organised themselves into a mob of chaotic malcontents and malformed mutants.
Bolters are cocked by the ravens and you hum your cannon as you prepare to send this scum back to the grasp of the gods.

An example would be in a general battle it is rolling lets say.

Fighting against chaos with guard and blood raven allies.
1st roll-you and your squad.
2nd roll-guard roll.
3rd roll-ravens.
your current guard bonus is +10
so if you rolled 40 and the DC was 45 itd come out as 50 and be a minor pass.

In a melee fight it would be like this.

so if you rolled 40 and the DC is 60 you would pass at 70.

Also while the bonuses seem ludicrously good this is all off fluff terms and power swords are literally monomolecular reality scythes.

So yeah.
The bonuses are proportional to what the enemy get.
And yes you will curbstomp minor greenskins and mortals.
But they are mortals and not usually what marines are sent against.
Tyranids and ork warbosses will still be a fucking pain and trying to kill a greater daemon will have you dead as a doornail and resting with the emperor alongside the souls of those who said "whatre ya gonna do stab me?" to an eversor.

You smash your cannon into a cultists face as you burn through their ranks with righteous fervor.
Your brothers fight with no fear as azikiel uses your old blade to sever a dozenfold cultists with a single divine strike.

Amadiel uses his launcher to great effect as blobs of the chaos horde splits up in the urban fight.

You begin to turn your fire on the forces overwhelming the ravens and start to buy them a brief reprieve while the techpriests continue their work.

Expanding on that you can lower the greater daemon DC from the 90s and 100s to the 70s and 80s through time spent in the cages and speaking with the veterans in the chapter on the cruiser.
Speaking to the other sword brethren will allow for advances in your CQC and ranged equally.
Speaking to the techmarines will allow you to go mechanicus route and eventually play with servoskull scouts and craft and maintain your own shite.
Chaplaincy path would allow you to go chaplain and be full fuck the chaos and xenos and provide minor assist to CQC skills. but mostly maintain purity.
Apothecary the same as tech but with related bonuses.
Speaking to captain oberon will allow you to potentially eventually go into the captain route and if we run for long enough and interest doesnt fade lead your own company and kill shit in the name of the emprah across the galaxy.

The blood ravens.the sons of auerila take their first casualty as the mass of the cultists is too much to hold against and the ceramite of a marine falls as the sheer mass of cultists leaves him alone in the melee and his armour falls from so many targets.Even the most stalwart warrior will fall to a million blades is a lesson the blood ravens learn well as soon their pauldrons are stripped and the remaining squad even has their internal black carapace tested by lucky strikes.
But due to you and the templars the rest of the squad survives and amadiels vengeance launcher lives up to its title as bloody retribution strikes the mass of the cultists as plasma blasts funnel the cultists for grenades to strike and decimate their tight positions.
Eventually either through cowardice or terror the cultists break into a bloody rout retreating back into the urban mass with burning wrath on their heels.
The blood ravens are shown now out of the heat of battle as they sit and break out emergency stopgaps for healing as their sergeant stands with what looks like thousands of cracks in his plate some seeping with his own blood as he loads his bolter and stands vigil over his fallen brothers.
The muttered yell over their helmet vox for an apothecary would be inaudible to a mortal but with your enhanced hearing and the loss of helmet you hear just fine.

The techpriests look rather nonchalant about the affair as the door starts opening.
"I thought better of astartes than to fall to rabble wielding equipment even the most inexperienced adept would fail to fall to."
the speech of the techpriest enrages both the ravens in wrath of their fallen brother but you also of the insult laid upon the adeptus astartes and the disrespect shown to the fallen.
The unaware techpriests do not care for the emotions of the flesh and enter the compound.

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only dead blood ravens.

The assault towards the stronghold went off without a hitch as the great blow of the armored guard and predator tanks of the templars smashed through the light ranks of chaos as traps were crushed underneath mechanical might and infantry hunter killer teams were smashed by aerial domination provided by the wrath of the Valkyries and the power of the emperors thunderhawks.

The terminators of the blood ravens suffered deeply however as the thousand sons laid deadly traps in their wake and marines fell to warpfire runes that burned astartes alive in their own armour.
Due to the strength of the traps the blood ravens soon found themselves besieged by daemonic horrors that had been summoned and caged ready for the poor saps that would find them.
Unfortunately gabriel angelos rather than risk his brothers called a retreat and set up a line to hold what is in there back.

i know where you are going with the whole help the company business but everyone else who is a sword brethren is rocking termie armour or that artificer plate and have their own power blades.
Oberon got his own sword from inheriting it from the previous captain as its his badge.
The templars dont begrudge marines for going finders keepers.
Hell that how a lot of templars get a kick ass sword to begin with.
and honestly having a good sword probably will just get you a pat on the back from your brothers.

As the men of cadia train their long las's on the cultists an unfortunate man fires prematurely and the cultists fire shots of their own before the volley hits them to kill.
The charge afterward breaches the wall and scales it but you see cultists moving and patrols moving towards your location in response to the sound.

You storm towards the ritual site as the sorcerers discover your attack and order their slaves to respond.
Warp shell dashes off your ceramite as you fire return plasma shots and destabilise the sons as your wrath erases a sorcerer down to his shins.

As the battle continues and the TS regroup great shields of eldrich energy block your plasma shots and slow your bolter fire as amadiels vengeance shells are telekinetically thrown back.
The rubricae deal their own deadly doses as they fire in lockstep smashing your left pauldron and scoring minor injuries across your brothers as they pound.
However their fire is distracted as the blood ravens come back with wrath in their hearts and fire their bolters with deadly purpose smashing through rubricae plate and blowing limbs off unaware scorcerers.

The sorcerers of prospero care naught for your fire but instead turn their wrath on the ravens as their sergeant is ripped from his armour and crushed by telekinetic might to the despair of his squad.
The attack of the sorcerers while powerful was ill advised as now you have a critical opening and you take it firing your wrath in the form of a burning stream of plasma that erases the TS sorcerers from existence as their ritual fails from the lack of power.

You have defeated the TS but the enemy must know of your location.
The codex astartes says to pull back and trust in your allies.

From the swirling firestorm that now engulfs part of the enemy stronghold come a force of men incomprehensible from foe to mortal eyes but due to your nature you see the markings of cadia and the wrathful abandon of gleeful cadians as they charge towards the breach point with a horde of cultists and mutants on their tails.

Long las shots blow the skulls open of the slavering cultists of the dark prince and flamers purify the rot of the lord of disease as pus is burned and bacterium incinerated.
But no matter the amount of fire the cultists drive on not concerned with loyalties and duty like heretics or traitors but the sheer madness of broken men being tortured by the whims of the dark gods.

The battlefield is covered in blood and hues of purple and blue as the chaos advance is halted by the might of the imperium.
Bolt shells meet stub guns and the vengeance launcher hits its targets with wrathful fury.
The bolters of the blood ravens scream with fury as the gyrojets burn through the air to their targets as ribcages explode from within and many shells go straight through the ragged scraps of armour and penetrate the unlucky foe behind.
The fury of the cadians is not far behind as rapacious lasfire rings as their own sergeant screams over the vox while parrying an axe before severing spines and bones with his wrath.
Your own fury is staunched as the mass of the mutants slow your burning plasma and take multiple bolt shells to put down as the push rewards a sublime kill with nothing but more damned souls to send back to the warp.
The force seems overwhelming as cultists swarm over your lines slicing ceramite and shocking you back as azikiel takes a stub shot to the arm knocking his strike off course and allowing a mutant to close as the battlefield desends into hatred and CQC fury.
Cresting the field however unassialed comes the vengeful fury of the corrupted as before you and your brothers lumber beasts beyond mortal realities.
Chaos has brung forth the worst of its gene labs and corruption.

You take this chance to ready your blade and sink into its chest as you sever a massive wound with the slash of a demigod and your power strike forces a hole in the center of its body as its talons bat azikiel back as cultists bog him down once more before the beast strikes towards you and you block and stand fast with the might of a true son of dorn.

As the beast charges you parry its charge with the heart of a son of dorn and every one of its strikes fail to pierce your indomitable will.

The loss of their shock troops breaks the back of the cultists and they in pained shrieks pull back to their lines as they continue to trade stub fire with the wrath of the militarum.
The cadians set up the last of their charges as you once more fire your cannon into the foe.
As you retreat the charges are detonated creating another wall of stone blocking the path.

The foe has been harried.

The thousand sons attempt a counterattack with eldrich might and warpfire strikes before their positions are detonated as sudden thunderhawk bombardment forces them into cover.
You jump with your brothers out of the thunderhawk at low altitude and begin firing against the walls as you erase defending scum with contemptuous ease as the rest of your templar battle brothers land and unleash bolter fire of their own as the company of the heirs of sigismund fight and prepare to give their lives in the service of the eternal crusade as the rabble of chaos is smashed before their might.
Following on the heels of this attack the blood ravens storm onto the battlefield with predator and rhino as sword and shield alongside the pentient men of krieg.
Bolter fire sunders mutants and the librarius of the blood ravens flay flesh from bone in a storm of mental might.
The men of krieg never to be found wanting charge vehemently at the chaos lines as they smash through pitiful defences without pause and in the blink of an eye go from a bloody bayonet fight to setting up mortars and trenches for the prolonged fight.

The men of cadia are not found wanting either as they charge into the foe eliminating priority targets and erasing the foes on the field.
The cultists now begin their counterattack as the charge of the cadians makes it to the pre wall position in symphony with the other fronts but suffer a rapacious counter strike by chaos as the thousand sons pick off guardsmen with great streams of corrupted might.

But the templars have their assault blunted as covens of the sons of prospero use eldrich knowledge to erect great shields that dissipates bolt fire and staunches the wrath of the imperium.
However while the shields are strong the templars turn their wrath onto the walls as great barrages of boltfire strike into the main gate as the defenders are knocked off and fall to their death.
But the true punch rolls forth as the mighty baneblade fires its cannon into a psy shield breaking the focus and shortening the shield on the wall.The opening is exploited by the men of the guard as lasfire rackets into cultists as blood and bones are erased in solar fire.
But the true decisive blow comes from your own hands as you spot your opening and sight the gate.
As you fire decades old plasteel is melted before your might as you breach the gate with your cannon and erase the pitiful phalanx behind it as the baneblade takes its own chance and rolls through with thunderous might and unleashes 11 barrels of death into the foe as the guard storm the breach in its wake and templars draw swords to turn the tide.

Ive got my notes down as training 10 times with melee for a +3 bonus but that can be doubled by training another 10 times.
same with ranged in principle.
also the more time you spend in cages the more general damage you do.
Like fighting the LOC you were slashing at its feet and wings with crits but even though you rolled well you were doing the best possible with devastator melee training and fucking good sword.
so the progression will probably do this.

And so on so forth for ranged but with ranged you already start with a +5 bonus that gives you a +10 with your cannon and then we add on the other bonuses and it works to a +17.

Just to say it is fully possible if you ask to change into a more traditional tac marine.

Patreus,azikiel,ferron.-bolter and chainswords.Exc azikiel as he has your old sword
Amadiel-vengeance launcher.

You lead your brothers as due to the BT rules of squadding up based on friendships rather than doctrine means that they stick by you because they view you as a good leader and comrade.
As was done earlier you can give them new equipment such as you giving your shit to amadiel and azikiel but it is fully possible to switch things up so you can grab a plasma gun or bolter and run.
4 tacs and 1 mobile dev.
or keep things as.
2 mobile devs and 3 tacs.
or go off the deep end and smoke weed and run.
4 assaults and 1 dev.
if you wish to get all your brothers killed in a really silly formation.

quick clarification
amadiel and you are mobile devs as you carry easy to fire and life weapons like the launcher which from the THQ space marine could be used by tacs and was smaller but still packed a blow.
you carry a plasma which is also running off the more mobile rules.
if you switch to a lascannon or a heavy bolter you will lose mobility in exchange for that anti armour or infantry power.

Thanks for the compilation but to clarify.
the full ranged bonus is taken into account when you go into those critical fights like vs the LOC otherwise its counted as a plus 17 right now due to the base skills and + your chaos purge bonus.

This is to reflect that in the templar way of war in these major battles your squad has to switch between melee and ranged frequently especially vs the horde enemies so the full ranged and melee bonus isnt taken in.
