Last time, we celebrated Silviana's 18th birthday. You then joined her in her bedroom, and made love together for the first time. You also learned that she had developped feelings for you since she was 14. You then started managing your empire, notably permiting the wood elves to create two cities, and give permission to the dark elves to establish a city in the Lost Shores. As you talked with the dark elf diplomat, you learned about their experiments, what they call the Broodmothers, which give them the possibility to create an army for you, made of loyal brood spawns. You accepted this offer, along with young dark elves nobles as military officers, engineers for the University, mages for the magical researsh center, and some spies to whom you gave the challenge of sneaking into the Royal Palace.

You then talked with the rulers, established a rule about the size of their standing army, and listened to their projects, and how you could help them. It was expensive but with this, every corner of your empire will be modernized. You tried to have them confess if they were part of the Silent Force, but none of them talked.

Later, you went to sleep with Lazarus, but not until you explained the situation with the dark elves and he was delighted by the possible advances that this research might bring him.

You decide to go read the report from the Spymaster first. You go into a salon, and soon, a spy appear from the corner of the rrom and give you a letter, it's a rather ordinary envelope sealed with basic wax. As you look around, the spy disappeared, you open the envelop and read the letter.

Alright, from your understanding, he managed to infiltrate the palace of Hagëndorff, who's preparing for war and is training new soldier. The Spymaster surely mean in the second part that he needs more time and will soon have access to the intel you wanted him to uncover and maybe more. He seems to also warm you that something big is going to happen during the Day of the empire, so you need to be ready. The part with a mutual friend can only mean that him and Titania are on really good terms now. You decide to write a reply to this letter, something simple.

As you finish writing, you hear something behind you, you turn to see one of your spy, different from the first one, she bows to you, and extends her hand, you give her the letter, she goes for the window, and jumps. You go take a look but she disappeared without a trace. Spy.

You leave this salon, and go for the throne room, and sit on your throne, you ask a servant to get Emelyne, Adeleine and Isabella, as you are going to have an audience with them. After some minutes, the servants bring the three girls and they bow to you.

You ask a servant to give a message to the Dark Lord, that you require his presence. After some minute, Lazarus enter the room.

It seems the the church of the Light is upset by the progress of the Black Moon religion, as it is an heretical and unofficial religion. The faith of the North Gods is happy with your policy of converting the non-humans, and feel that you should make it the only official religion of the empire. The Black Moon, for their part, want to be officialy recognized. Here is a list of what they want.

Problem with black moon is that he’s on fundamental level something else than the ither cosmic forces and we know this from the most knowledgeable party available to speak of the topic. So a paladin order, eh? They could be both a blessing in fighting corruption, crime and darkness, and a thorn in side when applying force directed by their morality rather than emperors will.

Personally I’m rather in favor of allowing it, because if the schism goes through without our branch compromising itself it will severely hamstring amount of leverage our light aligned rivals will be able to use against us from among our subject, both in terms of splitting the pool of supporters and in weakening traction of “dark empire vs light order” narrative.

You decide to go look for Aleanor, yu never really talked that much with her, you vaguely know of her past, how she became a gladiator, but beside that, she's still a mystery to you.

You ask around and they tell you that she's in the garden. You wonder what she's doing in the garden at night. You take a candlestick, and after some minutes you are in the garden, and start looking for Aleanor. You find her deeper into the garden, in a glade, it seems that she's waiting for something. When she hear you approach, she immediatly come up to you, and put out your candlestick."

She takes your hand, and lead you into the glade, you stay motionless with her, and you wonder what's going on. But soon, you see it, small dots of light start appearing, ans soon you are surrounded by a beautiful sea of greenish lights. Those are fireflies, quite common during summer, especially during warm nights. You look, enraptured by the beautiful scene, and Aleanor do the same. After some minutes the two a you sit on a carved stone bench.

>"I did the same, even if it was rare, me and my parents sometimes went to the royal garden, and we waited to see them." you reply.

Aleanor think for some seconds, then close her eyes, and start singing, it's an old song about a nord hero coming home after a long time, who fought a dragon of darkness who wanted to destroy the world, what make her singing more impressive is that she's perfectly doing the Common, Nord, and even the draconian part, even if it's only a phonetic translation. You think she's incredible singing with her souln surrounded by a thousand lights, flying into the night sky.

When she finish, you say nothing, still full of emotions. What do you ask ?

You go back to your bedroom, and as you open the door, you see that Lazarus is already inside, but it's only his armor that is placed on it's stand. You see that there is light in the bathroom, and you go naked before joining him. Once in the bathroom, you see that he's indeed relaxing in a hot bath, and you join him. The two of you relax, while he massages your chest. After a while, you get out of the water, you dry each other, and go back to your bedroom. You and Lazarus keep fooling around, and the mood turn more intimate as you put on your black lingerie. You and Lazarus get lost in the passion soon after, and you don't stop until you are both drained of all vitality. You fall asleep in his arms, tired but satisfied.

You remember falling asleep, but you don't remember following the wind of your mind, but you feel strange, you open your eyes and you find yourself lying on the ground, in a forest, not unlike the one of Luna Realm.

You close your eyes, and do as Luna says, and you focus on yourself, on who you are. Luna put her hand on your forehead, and indeed you starting to feel hot as soon and she touchs you. It's as if you were submerged in a bath that getting hotter.

You feel the power in you, something wild, like a beast, it's as if it was everywhere around you, and you want to escape, you want to run away, far from this monster, but you stay here, you keep your eyes closed.

>"Alright, I'm going to gradually increase the amount of power." Luna tells you.

It's getting hotter and hotter, and it feel like the beast is trying to attack you, just waiting for you to move. but you stay focused, and you let the power flow through you, you let the beast roam around you, you don't move.

>"Okay now try to control the best, try to show it that you are the master. But don't be violent, don't let it attack you, you need to show that it can't win." she explains.

You listen to the soothing voice of the goddess, and do as she say. You stay motionless, but inside you, you stay alert keeping your soul out of reach, you let the beast take hold of your body, but keep it away from everything else. Everytime you feel that the beast is getting closer, you block it. You use the bright fire of your soul to keep the beast from attacking you. it's getting colder now, as the beast take control of your arms, of your legs, and slowly, it try to control your soul, but you won't let it overwhelm you. It feel like an eternity, as Luna is puring more power into you, as the beast try to take full control, but you keep it at bay, keeping you soul safe, focusing on who you are.

Then finally the beast give up, and retreat. Luna remove her hand, and you can hear her sigh.

>"Impressive, you did really well, open your eyes now Freya, and see for yourself." she smiles.

You open your eyes, and see Metraton and Luna smiling, you don't feel that different, you look at your hands, and then you see why they are smiling. Your fingernails became long claws, as sharp as hunting knives, they could tear through flesh and mail with ease. You move your tongue on your teeth, and feel that they all became fangs.

>"You managed to keep the feral power away from your soul with ease, I rarely saw someone do this on their first try." she says.

The next morning, after waking up and getting dressed, you go have your breakfast with Lazarus. As the two of you eat, you start

>"After some research, I believe I know exactly who the traitors are. My parents are our allies of course, along with Phillip Turean, and Otto Kislev. Yes I know, I was surprised too, but Otto is actually on our side. Hernest Hestin and Robert Illnir are the traitors. Roman Vosko is undecided, and we need to get him on our side." you explain.

>"I belive it was a trap, he was lying, and I think he want to use Ellisa against me. We have to think about what to do about him, and Ellisa. We also need to find how to convince Roman Vosko that we are the better future." you tell him.

>"With everything YOU did for the north as a whole, I think you are indeed the better future, but of course I must be biased. Still, they hate me so much that they would rather start another war than have me as their Emperor. Maybe I should have killed them all." he declares.

After breakfast you follow Lazarus into his laboratory, you want to see what he's doing. Once inside, he starts working on some potions, writing thing in his books, and calculating a great number of things. While he's buried in his work you think about him, despite the hate and bitterness in his heart, he can be good, or maybe it's just because you are here. The death of his mother was what made him leave into the world, Orelliel's death made him embraces his demonic side, and the murder of his father was the breaking point, where he started his conquest, and his plot for revenge. You had this idea in the back of your mind for some time, and maybe it's time to talk about it with your husband.

>"Dear, I was thinking about something." you say.

>"You think about a lot of things, my love. I truly believe you need some vacations after we finish dealing with our little problems" he jokingly replies.

>"Lazarus, this is serious, it's about your mother." you tell him.

The Dark Lord stop his work, and slowly turn to look at you, you see the fire in his eyes burning more weakly. He shows you the couch, and the two of you sit down.

>"What is it Freya, you want to know something about her ?" he asks.

>"Actually I had an idea. We should build a crypt . . . For our family. If one day, the worst happen, we should have a place . . . To rest peacefully, somewhere safe." you say.

>"Freya, I'll never let anything happen to you." he declares.

>"I was thinking more about those that left us already." you explain.

>"And your father. If you want, we could bury them there, so even if I can't ever meet them, at least I can put flowers and pay my respects to them." you tell him.

You gently take your husband's hands, and give him a smile, you want to show him how much you care.

>". . . . I . . . I am willing to do it, but at one condition, the cathedral that you are planning to build must be for my mother, the cathedral of saint Ariel Justinia, the Holiest woman tha ever lived." he says.

>"Of course, I'll do it, she deserves it and more, and maybe we could have a piece of her armor for the cathedral, as a "real" relic." you reply.

>"Once the Cathedral is done, I'll do it myself, no one else shall touch her belongings, I won't let some worthless priest soil her legacy." he adds with barely contained rage.

>"Lazarus, calm down. I promise you, we are going to make something glorious together, and then once it's done, the two of us are going to find her, and bring her back." you say.

You smile and embrace him, and he hugs you back, He's still a mess, but you want to help him.

The rest of the day is less hectic than the previous ones, but you know it's only the calm before the storm. During the afternoon, as you walk in the great hall of the palace, you see Shelur arguing with some maids, your friend have a boar on her shoulders.

>"Lady Yazgash, we can't let you take this thing back to your bedroom". say a shorthaired maid.

>"If you want you can leave it to the kitchen, and the chefs can prepare it for you." adds the longhaired one.

>"But I don't want anything fancy I just want to roast it, Why do I have a big fireplace in my room if I can't roast my catch ?" Shelur replies.

>"You can't roast a wild pig in your bedroom !" the longhaired maid tells her.

>"That's not a wild pig, that's a boar." Shelur correct her.

>"Lady Yazgash, that's the same thing." the shorthaired maid says.

>"I just want to roast it." Shelur smiles.

>"YOU CAN'T !" shout the two maids.

You shake your head, it seem that despite this, Shelur is enjoying the situation, and keep going only to make the maids more flustered. What are you going to do ?

You decide to watch for now, just to see how the maids are going to try and convince Shelur.

>"Lady Yazgash, as your bedroom is in the royal wing I believe that the smell of roasted meat could inconvenience the occupants of the other rooms." the longhaired says.

>"That's right, it would be rube to trouble the Emperor or the Empress." the shorthaired adds.

>"Well, instead of making assumption why don't we ask them directly ? I am sure the Dark Lord would like to give his opinion on the matter." Shelur smiles.

Now that playing dirty, the two maids become pale, afraid of Lazarus 's reaction. But the shorthaired maid don't let go.

>"Lady Yazgash . . . " the longhaired starts.

>"Please, call me Shelur." Shelur says.

>"I'm afraid I can't do that, you are part of the retinue of our Empress, you have a high statut, so please try to act like it. And if you make a mistake roasting the pig, you could create a fire that would destroy the Palace." the longhaired explains.

>"I was using fire since I was a kid, I know what I am doing. If you want, you can eat with me." Shelur tells them.

>"THAT'S NOT WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO SAY !" the shorthaired maid shouts.

Okay that enough, you walk up to them, and they turn when they hear you coming.

>"Your highness !" the two maids bows.

>"Oh Freya, how long have you been here ?" Shelur asks.

>"I was here since you said you wanted to take it back to your bedroom. That's an impressive boar, a nice hunt indeed. But I'm going to follow the maids, you shouldn't bring it back upstair. Your bedroom isn't quite adapted for roasting." you say.

The two maids look at you intrigued, and Shelur look at you with what you assume is her take on puppy eyes, it's not working.

>"Rather than roast it, wouldn't it be better to have it barbecued ? We have the inner courtyard, and it's a beautiful day. We could invite the maids, and you can have a nice lunch. What do you think." you explains.

>"I don't . . ." starts the shorthaired.

>"It's . . . " adds the longhaired.

>"That's fine for me, this boar could feed a whole village." Shelur replies.

>"Then it's decided, girls, go to the kitchen and bring vegetables and drinks, and go tell all your colleagues that the maids of the Royal Palace are going to have a barbecue in the inner courtyard, courtesy of Shelur, and with the blessing of the Empress." you declare.

>"Yes, your highness." the two maids replies.

The two maids leave with haste, leaving you and Shelur alone.

>"Hehehe, having so much cute girls tasting my culinary prowess is going to be fun." she says.

>"I don't think meat and vegetables with some spices on a stick is a culinary prowess, Shelur." you tell her.

>"HEY ! The simplest recipes are the best, you'll see once you have tasted it." she replies.

Shelur was right, it's delicious. You are with her in the inner courtyard of the Royal Palace, the maids prepared the tables, the drinks and the other ingredients, while Shelur was busy making a fire. Once everything was ready, the maids gathered, and Shelur started to barbecue the boar and the hegetables. Using just some spice, she handed you the first grilled skewers, and you tasted it, and by the gods it was good.

Soon, all the maids are eating, talking and laughing together, under the watchful eyes of the Royal Guards that patrol the courtyard. A lot of them are talking to Shelur, it seems that she's quite popular with the maids. You notice that from time to time, some of them look at you, but turn their head quickly, they don't dare talking to you. You decide to take the frist step, and go for the two maids that argued with Shelur.

>"My Queen, thankk you so much for your kindness, and allowing us to take a break. We don't deserve it." says the longhaired maid.

>"Don't say that, you are all doing your duty with diligence, you deserve a treat. I didn't catch your name before." you smile.

>"Oh, I'm sorry, I am Marion." she replies, bowing.

>"And I am Una, your highness." the shorthaired one adds.

>"I am delighted to finally get to know you. Marion, you're not from the northern kingdoms, right ?" you ask.

>"Ha, yes, you noticed my name. My parents came from the west of Hagëndorff's Empire, the west of Midland. I was born here." she explains.

As you keep talking with Marion and Una, other maids come to you, and start discussing. Soon, you are surrounded by at least a dozens of young girls, there is even an elf among them, and they soon start asking all sort of questions, stars in their eyes.

"Is it true that the Dark Lord is actually a good man ?"
"There is a rumor that you married him willingly."
"Did you really burn a maid ?"
"Is there a war coming ? I have family on the southern border."
"What is your relationship with your personal maid ?"
"Are you really friend with the queen of the high elves ?"
"I heard a noble say that you are a witch."
"Are the non-humans really nice ? My parents told me scary stories about them when I was a kid."

How are you going to reply to those questions ?

You see the maids looking embarrassed by making you think about that dark moment.

When you mention your love, they all smile, and some of them even giggles.

As Shelur is serving a second salvo of godly skewers, you sit at the table with the maids, and keep chatting while eating and drinking.

You words seems to pt some of them at ease, they had some concern about what could happen.

You keep eating with them, drinking some good blonde ale that one of the maid brought, it was made by her family. You really enjoy this little improvised picnic. You take this opportunity to ask some questions yourself.

>"I lived in a village near Lynn, near the sea, and with Altenberg and Arcadia close, we never had to fear for our security. We were never hungry, since the harvests were alway good. There was also alway something interesting to buy at the market, than to the merchants, that came from the imperial path or the sea. Life was good, but we were stuck as common villagers. My father then took an apprentiship with a merchant and learned a trade. We moved here and he opened his own business. I was lucky to be hired as a maid when the Royal Palace was finished, it was my dream to work in a castle." she explains.

You turn to the orc and frown, but she's taking care of her barbecue, as if she wasn't listening, but you know full well that she heard everything the maids just said. Oh well.

We have nice rooms if we don't go home, we are protected by some of the most competent warriors of the empire, and the pay is nice. Plus working here give us a statut." an elf maid named Faylen explains.

>"Well, the city is beautiful, and there is a church for the believer of the Light, there is a temple of the North Gods faith in construction, and I heard that the Cult of the Black Moon is working on rehabiliting the Red Avenue so they cna build their temple, with your blessing of course." Marion says.

Everyone is working, and since the Emperor and you are the one to rule over us, we don't have to be afraid. There is also the security, with a lot of soldiers patrolling. Now really, as commoners it's really nice to live here, and we don't have anything to change in mind." a maid named Svani adds.

It seems that the maids are happy with their condition. You are now curious to see if the maids of Drack Fortress have the same opinion, knowing that theire is non-humans among them. You stay with them until the barbecue is over, and by the end of it, the maids consider you and Shelur like the greatest people in the palace. It look like the two of you have a fan club. The sun is setting, and the party is over. What are you going to do ?
