The full moon had hit its apex, casting its silvery light across the forest, creating dancing shadows out of the corner of your eye. There was a slight wind, lazily making its way through the pines and spruces and the whole area smelt earthy and fresh. Boulders dotted the landscape, covered in a dark green moss, moist and soft. That is where you lay, atop of a moss covered boulder, two hundred yards from your quarries den.

Under the cover of a rough, brown, itchy blanket that did very little to keep out the cold, he watched and waited. It had been several days since taking the contract from the local village chief, a sour, gaunt old man who had been pained to part with some coin. But parted he had, despite his protests.

“Have you no soul? No empathy?” He’d cried. “The womenfolk and childfolk are afraid for their lives!”
“This isn’t a charity.”

A deal had been struck, fifty five gold Lions, dead or alive. The target: a werewolf.

++Choose a school++

Inquisitor
A natural investigator. This school focuses on intimidation, charisma and knowing who to talk to in order to collect on your bounties. Most Inquisitors are sanctioned by the High Church, giving you powers over local authorities, unless you really piss them off, or you stray too far from home. The criminal underbelly quakes at your gaze and the local lords rarely say anything to offend you.
In combat, the Inquisitor typically focuses on assassinations and sneaking.

Brawler
The most straight forward of all the schools. Talking is for wooing the barmaid. This school focuses on fighting and tracking. You might not win any prizes in the debate tournaments but a grizzled face and a well worn piece of metal often gets your point across and in the right direction.
In combat, the Brawler relies on head on attacks and outlasting the enemy through sheer will.

Witch Hunter
The...unorthodox school of hunters. Using various magical spells, divinations, alchemy and other Dark Arts, this school is the most rare of all the hunters. And also the most feared. The criminal society fears you lest they become apart of your foul potions and the upper classes would never be seen dead with you in their company. That being said, being one of the more powerful humans around, they might still need your help in certain cases.
In combat, the Witch Hunter relies on magiks to boost attack and defence.

>Witch Hunter

He is a Witch Hunter, one of the few remaining Witch Hunters left on the continent of Isalica. Feared by men and beast alike, he strikes an imposing figure. Alek Siminov, the Beast of the East.

Watching the cave, he lies perfectly still, cluthing his silver sword at the ready.
“Imp. Bestiary.”
“Ah you call? What can I help you with? Perhaps a nice cake recipe? Or maybe what awaits down below?” A tiny little daemon had appeared, wreathed in a black flame that gave off no heat. About six inches tall and shaped vaguely humanoid, it had a pair of dark, leathery wings on its back and small horns on the top of its head. Its eyes were as dark as an oil slick.
“Enough. It pains me to even converse with one such as yourself. I want the bestiary description on werewolves. Preferably a lesser. The quarry has only recently turned.”
“A lesser werewolf huh? Okay!” A tiny leather chair materialised from thin air along with a tome made from an unknown hide. The daemon flicked through a few pages until he came to what he was looking for. “A lesser werewolf. *ahem* A lesser werewolf is a recently turned beast, unable to control his or her hunger and transformation. A feral beast that slays livestock and mortals alike, only an effort by large groups of soldiers or militia have any hope in bringing it down.”
“Weaknesses? I remember the silver but anything else?”
“Funnily enough, wolfsbane. And fire.”
“Fire is everything's weakness.”
“Not a daemons.”
“I’ll keep that in mind when I finally purge you.”

Creeping up to the cave, Alek can hear the beast feeding. A wet, slurping sound punctuated by the sound of snapping bones. Livestock from the D’Ignis farm. Or maybe the farmhands. Alek had tracked down this werewolf after a few days of village watching, watching for the tell tale signs of the curse slowly bubbling to the surface as the full moon inched closer each night. Red rimmed eyes and elongated nails were the most common and visable symptoms but to the trained eye, there were several others; increased hair around the arms and legs, a ravenous hunger and increased aggression were just some. Alek had reason to believe that the werewolf was the blacksmiths apprentice by the name of Cecil Arbenthox and had tracked him on the full moon, watching him stumble through town in a mad haze to make it to open ground. He’d visually lost him on the outskirts of town but the tracks were there, crushed shrubs, torn shirts, broken branches. It was just a simple act of following the destruction to the D’Ignis farm where, as Alek viewed from a distance, a fire had broken out. That fire had most likely saved the D’Ignis family from total butchery.

Twelve feet away now. Time to die beast.

The beast is hunched over, feeding on its kill. It hasn’t noticed Alek yet, its nostrils full of the scent of meat and blood, its ears distracted by the snapping of bone rather than the footsteps of a far superior hunter creeping up behind him.
Alek pulled his Machevelli Pistol out of his holster, pulled the hammer back with the slightest of pings and pulled the trigger.

The beast roared, a terrible roar that echoed around the countryside for many miles. Birds in trees, only moments ago sleeping, took to the skies, cawing and chirping, adding to the din.

The werewolf turned around and snarled, bounding towards Alek as he put away his pistol, swiping at Aleks chest and drawing blood, a thick ragged wound that ran from this left shoulder to his right hip before dashing away into the underbush. While Alek was registering the shock of the speed of the werewolf, he came back, teeth bared and claws outstretched and it was only his quick wits and reflexes that stopped him from being torn limb from limb. That being said, Alek still ended up on the ground, covered in mud and leaves as he dived to his left, the jolt of the slash knocking the wind out of him.

He got up and looked at the werewolf, circling him. There was a moment of respite before the werewolf charged. But Alek was ready.

“ph’lui mgah naf’tachet!” Alek cries, extending his left arm towards the wolf. Under Aleks jacket, the tattoos depicting war, torture and death started glowing a deep, ruby red. The wound that was rent from shoulder to hip, closed, the bleeding stemmed from dripping to weeping. It would require further attention but it’d do for now. The werewolf staggered back, out of breath momentarily and sinking to its knees.

It lasted only but a moment though.

The beast lunged, snarling as it did so. Alek shifted his weight behind his sword, the tip aimed right at his prey. Let the beast come to you.
It rushed over Alek, clawing at his back as it did so. Alek felt the numbness in his back as adrenaline kicked in. He knew he had been hit badly and his armour had been working hard this night. He also knew that he had scored a massive hit upon the beast, his sword covered in a thick, black blood.

Alek looked at the werewolf, it was standing upright, claws outstretched and teeth baring. It looked...afraid.

The air is still for a moment.

Aleks breath is misty from the cold.

The beast, wide eyed and staring, recognises the futility of this fight. He bolts, crashing through the forest scrub. He is fast.

Alek is faster.

Catching up to the werewolf, Alek slices at his ankles bringing it down in a tumble into some bushes.

Alek approaches, his blade held high, ready to end this reign of terror, the beast cowers, arms raised high, desperately trying to defend himself.

“S-s-s-stop!” a human voice cries out from the mouth of the beast “I-I-I give up. Please don’t hurt me!”

The beastial form is fading away slowly, leaving behind Cecil the blacksmiths apprentice. Already the jaw has become smaller and his arms less muscular, less hairy.

What do? The rewards is 55 Gold Lions, dead or alive

“How did this come to pass? Speak quickly and carefully lest I end your pitiful life.”

Cecil, wide eyed and terrified, gave up the information freely. What he knew, and didn’t know, quickly became apparent. “I’m not sure sir! I’m just an apprentice! At the blacksmiths! Mr. Abenthur can vouch for me! He knows me!”

“Who you are is not in question Cecil Arbenthox.” Alek growled, his sword still pointed at Cecil. This would have to be done quickly. Already the werewolfs natural regeneration was kicking in, healing the smaller bleeding wounds. A decision would have to be made now.
“The question is: how did this come to pass? Is there another like you in these parts? Or did you make a pact with the devil?”
“No sir! All I know is that for a few nights, for the last few full moons, I’ve been aware of whats been happening. But I can’t stop it! Not the feeding or the killing or the…” Cecil shudders “murderin’. But I swears sir! It aint me!”

Thinking quickly, Alek considered what he’d been told. Obviously, Cecil had been either cursed or his soul had been given over to a devil, willingly or otherwise. There was no other werewolf in this area, you would know if you’d been bitten by one. This suggested that there was an occultist hiding within the village that had something to gain by selling peoples souls. When Alek got back there, he would have to have a search. The High Church paid highly for heretics and heathens.

Focusing on Cecil, there was nothing to be done. If Alek had time, he could concoct a potion of Wolfsbane, Nightshade and silver shavings to combat the werewolf virus but that took time and resources, something he did not have. His options repeated. Kill him, collect the reward. Let him go. Disable him and let the village folk have their justice which more or less amounted to revenge which amounted to a hanging, beheading and stuck in an iron cage till his body rotted away.

What do?

>Urge to kill...rising
“I’ll try and make this quick.”
Cecils mouth quickly transforms into a gaping maw of elongated teeth and his eyes turn inky black, ready to strike. But he is too slow. Alek has pierced his heart, coal-black blood pouring out, followed by a quick horizontal strike, beheading the beast and stopping the transformation halfway between a man and monster.

The sun is rising, dispelling the mist and the night monsters, when Alek walks into town, the beasts head on his back.

Alek wanders past the town guard, who usually extract a small *fee* from passing travellers and merchants. Big burly men who often extract a fee in gold or teeth. Not today. Alek shoots them a glance that tells them to back off or die.

The town is called Shimmerhorn and it has about 500 or so permanent residents. Originally an old army camp from an ancient empire, Shimmerhorn is set against a backdrop of the Cold Volcanoes, a series of volcanoes that had long since spent their load. Shimmerhorn is a moderately busy town, with a few dozen merchants and travellers either lodging or passing through each day for, to the north lies the Veralist Dynasty and the to the south lies the Prusstia Empire with a dozen other independent fiefdoms and minor kingdoms laying in between them and to the west and east.
Shimmerhorn technically belonged to the Veralist Dynasty, but had been given considerable concessions by the government in order for them to not succeed. It was perilous times after all, both the Dynasty and the Empire had been involved in several skirmishes and not even the Farseers knew what was coming.

Walking into the town square, Alek saw several avenues that he could take.

The chiefs house is an ornate wooden building, roughly fifty yards in height. You’d come here- no, been forced here a few nights ago by the chiefs muscle. Kidnapped while sleeping off a particularly strong local brew and told to fix the problem “or else.” Alek was never impressed by bravado, especially human bravado.
“Fifty five Lions. Take it or leave it. I’ve upped the price because of my rude awakening.”
“I could never of invited one such as yourself into my chambers in the middle of the day Witch Hunter. Your kinds reputation is...lackluster.”
“Speak carefully chief. I could kill you and all your men and be long gone by the time anyone finds your bodies.”
And so a grudging deal had been struck. A pouch of Lions for Alek’s trouble and the promise that he would bring back the perpetrator.

Alek had upheld his part of the bargain, now it was up for chieftain Meadhara to uphold his.

Meadhara was an old, vain man. Covered in heavy furs and gold chains, smelling of the finest perfumes and wearing make up to hide the veins that had broken out across his nose and cheeks, the sign of a heavy drinker. He was flanked by his advisor, a pale, skinny man by the name of Gararic and his bodyguard who was the polar opposite, a heavy, dark skinned man by the name of Sabelo.

Alek threw the malformed head at Meadharas feet.
“Gold.”
Meadhara looked at the head and then looked at Alek, disdain clearly playing on his face.
“You were gone but a week. 55 gold seems a bit steep a price for what you did. And what did you do? Kill a boy? An ugly boy, no doubt the fair maidens of this town will thank you for it, but a boy nevertheless. No, no. Fifty five gold seems very steep.”
Alek said nothing but his hands balled into fists.
“Yes. I think for what you did,” Meadhara continued “for killing this very ugly boy. Thirty gold will suffice. No need to thank me. All part of governing.”
Aleks hands reached towards his pistol, subtly grasping it in its holster. Screwing a Witch Hunter out of hard earned gold was a sure way to meet your maker.
“Sir. Although I agree with your assessment that all the Witch Hunter has done is kill an ugly boy. I must say, its a particularly ugly boy.” Gararic interjected to a chuckle from Meadhara. “Perhaps we can pay the Witch Hunter for his trouble of hunting down the boy in full plus a bonus fee for leaving our town by sundown. Say, a total of seventy gold. But he must leave us by sundown or he becomes a criminal, wanted by our efficient soldiery.”
Meadhara sniffed. “Seventy gold? Thats more than what we promised him last time! Ah bugger it. It’ll be worth it to see his kind leave our town. What say you Witch Hunter? The thirty gold for the boy? Or the seventy gold to leave my town by sundown?”

>Take the 70 gold
>Go to the temple

Aleks hand moves away from the pistol. Sabelo noticeably breathes a sigh of relief. The other two don’t even realise how close they came to pleading their case in front of the Maker.
“Seventy you say?” Alek says, stroking his chin.
“But you have to be gone from our fair town by sundown.” Snaps Gararic “If you stay past sundown, you forfeit the right to all your possessions and you’ll have to work in our mines for a year to work off your debt.”
“Alright. I’ll take it. This town has nothing to offer me anyways.”
A pouch of gold is thrown at your feet by Gararic, almost too quickly like he suspected that a Witch Hunter would not turn down any gold.
As Alek leaves the house, he definitely hears a “good riddance” from the advisor and chuckling from Meadhara.

Current stash: 72 Lions, 2 Eagles, 6 Deer.

The local High Church temple is not too far away from the house, roughly a five minute walk. Alek takes it slowly, its only early morning and the marketplace is slowly energising itself. The meat vendor tries to hock Alek some salami and a travelling merchant tries to sell him an exotic bird. The Imp whispers in your ear “That would make a lovely breakfast. The bird I mean. The other meat is already dead. No flavour.” and Alek silences him with a wave of the hand. He stops by the blacksmith and tell him what has become of Cecil. The blacksmith, a large, burly man, is afraid of Alek and offers no words of thanks but ushers him out of the shop.

Approaching the temple, the Imp whispers an “I’ll be back later. I’ve got some stuff to do. Below stuff. Not afraid of the temple. Just some pressing errands.” And then disappears into his little dimensional hole.

“How can I help you traveller?” A Daughter appears as Alek enters the temple. From what Alek could see, twentyish, blonde hair hidden behind the habit and gorgeous green eyes with some great cheekbones. Her figure was hidden behind a shapeless dress. Truly a waste to go into a celibate profession.
“Yes, I’d like a healing bath please. I have,” Alek gestures to his entire body “had a rough night.”
“Of course. I can see that. It costs fifteen Lions to get a Communion Bath ready for you? Do you have the coin on hand?”
“Fifteen? Are you serious? Two towns over, it was only two Lions!”
“Fifteen it is sir. Our Abbot has been acting tirelessly to lessen the woes of the poorer folk in town and a lot of gold goes in that direction. He is quite strict on the no haggling rule.”

Do you fork over the hard earned cash? There are....other ways of getting your wounds taken care of. Illegal however.

>Spill the beans

As the Daughter leads Alek from the entrance hall, he makes idle chat.
"So, Daughter- I'm sorry. I didn't catch your name?"
"Daughter Sophia Delport. So Daughter Delport I guess you'd call me." She giggled nervously. "Never seen a Witch Hunter before. Youve got some tales to tell for sure!"
"I've been known to spell a yarn or two in my time." As Daughter Delport ran the Communion Bath, Alek regaled her with the story of the Evil Banshee of the Tooruk Hills which turned out to be a goat bleating into a echoing well. As she prepared the healing herbs and sages, and as Alek enjoyed the heat from the water, he told her about time he fought a battle of the wits against the Spinx of Al-Seeab, only just escaping with his life. As she rubbed the herbs into his wounds, Alek told her about the Warlord of the Wastes and how Alek bedded his wife, she smiled and giggled, refusing to meet his gaze.
"Tell me Sophia," Alek said, after his wounds had been cleaned and healed. "Do you know any warlords in these parts? Tyrants and dictators?"
"Well, I don't know about a tyrant but the Abbot is...not very nice."
"An Abbot should be extremely nice. What does he do?"
"He..." she looks around "I'm sorry Alek. I shouldnt burden you with our ills."
"Sophia," he said, grasping her hand "I'm trying to rid the world of evil. If I cant do it in the High Churches own house, what kind of monster hunter would I be?"
Again, she looks around. No one is seen.
"Well, he doesn't use the extra gold from the Baths on the poor. He uses it for his own means."
"I guessed as much. What does he use it on?"
"Lavish parties with the chief and his cronies mainly. The occassional travelling dignitaries. And...other things."
"He pays women?"
"Women?" Sophia laughs "Him? No. He...lays with men. Young men. Boys really. He pays the family two silver eagles for the night."

“I see.” Alek said, getting out of the bath. His body, save for the tattoos, unblemished. “Does he...do anything to you?”

“W-what?”

“Does he abuse you?”

“I...frequent these baths, yes.”

Alek was in two minds. On one hand, this was not his fight. Clergy abusing their power was an old as sin and, based on what Sophia had told him, the local officials were probably not going to be very forthcoming with the help. On the other, a Witch Hunter sold their soul to do good by the population. The ultimate sacrifice. What kind of Hunter would he be if he did not hunt and fight evil wherever it may be?

Alek made a mental note of it to tell the next temple he passed. Hopefully, before too long had passed, they would send a replacement.

“I will pass on your woes to the next Abbot Daughter Delport.” Alek said as he put on his clothes “I will stress that this Abbot is unsuited to the role.”

Her face fell and she cast her eyes downwards, clearly not the answer she had wanted “Thank you sir. I look forward to hearing the outcome.”

As Alek bades her farewell from the steps of the temple, he catches a glimpse of a man looking out the window of the top floor, presumably the Abbot. A monstrously fat man with a bald head, covered in golden chains and a black habit. A shiny face with too many chins framed two beady, piggy eyes that looked obsidian black.

And then, just like that, the window shutters banged shut and he disappeared from view.

Where to now? You will have time to visit two places before sundown.

>Evil hides in many skins. Even a clergyman.

Leaving the temple, the Imp reappears, dusting himself off “Thank the Below youre back. Those places always give me the creeps.” He looks Alek up and down “You look well! A pep in your step as well. Did you meet a girl? A Sister perhaps? Certainly not,” he shudders “a Mother? I’ve heard their wet place is as coarse as sandpaper.”

“Shut up Imp.”

“Ah! You did meet someone! I can see it in your eyes Mr. Siminov. You can’t fool me, we’ve been chained together for too long. Far too long.”

The Imp does not leave, but instead ops to sit on Aleks shoulder absentmindedly talking about the Below, the weather and his first love, much to Aleks surprise. Another Imp apparently, named Angelesh. Broke his heart, copulated with a Dark Demon. Ended up murdering her. “Ah first loves!”

Wandering down to the marketplace, a stall catches his eye Madam Debraps Curiosities . A run down shack that looked more at home in a slum than in a marketplace. Alek, driven more by what could possibly be inside rather than anything he sees, walks inside.

“Good afternoon Witch Hunter! How are you this fine day?” Alek is greeted by a beautiful, red headed woman. Madam Debrap presumably.

“Good afternoon ma’am. I am good this day. Just wondering what things you might have to sell me?”

“Oh, I have many things. Would your...companion like to browse anything?”

“You can see me?” disbelief, a rare emotion, flitters across the Imps face.

“Imps can only be seen by those tethered to them or those who have seen great evil in the world.” Debraps smiles “And I have seen many, great evils in my lifetime.” She turns to Alek “Now, in regards to what I have to sell, I have the good stuff in the back.”

Witch Soil of Hizuldumath. 45 Lions, 7 Eagles.
Pour on a flat, metal surface and ask for it to point you in the direction of your prey. It’ll work to a 1/1000th of a degree but only works once an hour, so move quickly.

The Cape of Zorri. 5 Lions.
Doesn’t do much. But adds much needed dramatic flair when you reveal yourself or when you jump down from a great height.

Duo Rings of Irrational Anger. 10 Lions, 5 Eagles.
If you give these two rings to two people, even if they don’t wear them, the act of giving is enough, they will begin to hate each other, increasing by double each day until one is either dead or the ring has been passed on.

Fish Hook. 5 Eagles
Wriggles around a bit when you throw it in the water so you don’t have to spend the money on bait. Tell you what, I’ll throw in some string for free!

Lucky Dice. 25 Lions, 5 Eagles.
A pair of dice. One increases your luck in dice games when its used so I hope you know some slight of hand. The other has...some other properties.
Once a month, you can reverse a critfail into a critpass

Probably should’ve explained the coin system by now. Its pretty simple going on a 10-1 scale. 10 Deers equals 1 Eagle. 10 Eagles equals 1 Lion.

Do you buy any?

“Stop jerkin’ us around mortal. Show us the real goods! These are trinkets designed to fool morons.”

Although Alek hushes his companion, he is inclined to the same. “I’m sorry ma’am. He’s not used to talking to other mortals, only me. I would be greatly indebted to you if you were to show me your more exotic items.”

“Well, I do.” She smiles daggers at the Imp “but they are very expensive. And I usually reserve them for those who look a little better dressed.”

“No harm in looking.” Alek replies.

Debrap opens yet another door to the back.

The Hidden Light of DeMiles. 50 Lions.
Creates a light similar to flame however, only the person holding onto this trinket can see what light it casts. Very useful for sneaking around.

Infinite Key. 60 Lions.
More or less opens any door. Simple enough.
Close enough. Actually just gives you a +20 roll on doors

Dark Hook. 30 Lions.
Once imbedded into a preys skin, they won’t be able to tear it out until you do so yourself.
Lowers the attack DC by -15 once used.

Lifedrinker Cloak. 55 Lions.
I actually stole this from a vampire! If it sense that you’re bleeding, it’ll start leeching life from the surrounding areas. Friend or foe I must warn.”

“The DeMiles light seems very useful. The name, too, seems familiar.”

“Aye,” Debrap says “A very useful item. And yes! A familiar name to those who know it. More than meets the eye with you Mr. Witch Hunter. DeMiles was one of those old, forgotten sorcerers, created many a trinket and item in his day. And now, all lost to the winds of time, although some whisper he has a secret stash hidden away somewhere, guarded by an ancient golem.”

“I must confess,” Alek says, reaching for his pouch of gold “I have heard of this treasure trove but, as of yet, am yet to see any evidence of it.”

Current wallet: 7 Lions, 2 Eagles, 6 Deer.

As Alek counts out the coin, the Imp wanders over to the Fish Hook. “Does this even work? It just looks like a normal fish hook to me.”

“Oh, it works young one. Tell you what: if you tell me how old you are, I’ll throw it in for free.”

“Really? Easy done. I’m 450 years old.”

“That old and that...small still?” She laughs.

“I’m not small! Its just a lot colder up here on the mortal planes! Im pretty big when I’m down Below.”

“Sure you are.”

Alek suspects she threw away five gold just to have a jibe at an Imp. He smiles inwardly.

“Thank you Madam Debrap. This will come in handy on the long trail ahead.”

“Not a problem Mr. Witch Hunter.” She smiles as she leads him to the door “I’m sure we’ll see each other again.”

The door slams shut on Alek and when he turns to have a final look, the only thing that shows that there was a shop there was a stack of wood saying Madam Debraps Curiosities with nothing behind it!

Alek saunters around the marketplace, buying several bits of food, fully aware that his stomach is rumbling and that he hasn’t eaten since midday yesterday.

The concerns of Daughter Sophia play heavily on his mind. His mentor, bless his soul, drilled into him that, above all, the life of a Witch Hunter was to do the common good, no matter the consequences. It made Witch Hunters, as a collective, often hunted themselves by governments, organisations and other bounty hunters and contributed to why a Witch Hunters lifespan was so short.

It went against every code he held dear, dammit!

“Calm down.” The Imp said, idly eating a stolen orange. “You’ve got that look in your eye. I’d you not die for another…” he checked a rather ornate watch, tapping it a few times “Two years, three months, fourteen days aaaaaaand sixteen hours. Can’t collect on that beautiful soul until then. So if you could have a nice, safe plan, it would be greatly appreciated.”

How would you like to approach the Abbot?

>Do the deed

“Oh,” Alek smiles “I’ve got a plan. It is as intricate and precise as a well played game of chess.”

The sun is about an hour from setting behind the Cold Volcanoes when Alek walked up into the temple.

Greeted by a Sister this time, he tells her he needs to meet with the Abbot and its very important. He rubs his fingers together “ very important.” She purses her lips but nods and ushers him into the ornate waiting area.

The monthly church tithe in these parts has been good to the old Abbot. Very good. Whilst the common area was stone and wood, with sparse furnishing, the waiting area was obviously reserved for dignitaries, with gaudy gold fixtures and plush leather couches. No wonder he could act with impunity, he was clearly greasing the hands of every single official from here to the Capital.

A Daughter was passing by as Alek stopped her, causing her to gasp a little.

“I’m sorry to cause offence miss, but I’m hoping you’d be able to do me a small favour? Is Daughter Sophia still about? Would you be able to send her to meet me please?”

The Daughter nods and quickly walks off, her footsteps echoing down the hall.

Ten minutes pass. Fifteen. Twenty. Alek begins to wonder if he’s been had on and the Abbot is just attempting to stall him so he can be arrested. Just as he is about to leave, the same Sister who ushered him in, calls to him. “Sir. The Abbot will see you now.”

Walking into the Abbots office, Alek is momentarily awestruck by the lavish fittings. Gold trimmed couches, crystal lights that magnified the flame inside, tasteful art pieces and all manner of animal hides. The Abbot himself is sitting in a leather chair at his desk, a small, brown haired alter boy stands beside him, eyes cast down, bruising clearly visible on his cheek. Did the Abbot like to play with his food before eating it?

The Abbot smiles “Good evening Witch Hunter. I heard what you did for this town and I must say: I’m very grateful that you have disposed of the evil plaguing us.” His fat, pale hand strokes the boys hair absentmindedly “One of my Sisters has told me that you are willing to make a donation of some kind?”

“Yes. One of lead.” Alek pulls out his pistol and fires! CRACK the noise reverberates throughout the building.

That did not go unnoticed. The boy standing next to the Abbot is shaken and deathly still. “Boy. I want you to tell every townsfolk you can about what this demon in human form was doing. Tell them that the Witch Hunter dealt with him the same way all Witch Hunters deal with evil.” Pressing four Eagles into his hand. “Now run boy.”

As the boy runs off, the door opens and the temples Mother walks in. She screams at the body and faints. Thats a little melodramatic. Alek thinks, holstering his pistol and stepping over the body.

“Alek!” Comes a voice. Daughter Sophia. “What have you done?”

“What the righteous of this town should’ve done long ago Daughter Delport.” Alek steps up to her and gives her a piece of paper. A map detailing where he would be in six hours. “Use this. I’ll be by the river. I can take you somewhere safe.” And then, just like that, gone in the panic as dozens of Daughters and Sisters raced around the halls.

Alek jogged down the temple steps and towards the gate. The sun was nearly down. Approaching the town gates, it was guarded by three militia men, garbed in cheap armour with cheaper weapons.

“Five Lions, Witch Hunter. Don’t be stingy. We all know you got paid the big money to leave town.” Says the first guard, leaning on his spear “Besides, guarding this town from the evil beyond is thirsty work. Don’t you agree we should slake our thirst?”

Alek looked the three up and down. Poor maintained scalemail armour, coupled with spears that had seen better days made for a poorly militia and on any other day, he’d be teaching them manners by plucking their eyes out. But today? Today Alek needed to leave town quickly.

“Do you know how many people I’ve killed?” Alek asked “Do you know how many I’ve sent to the Below? I’ve hunted demons, giants, werewolves. I’ve killed generals and kings, assassins and spies. Made vampires beg for their lives as I’ve killed them, Fae have offered me their empires if only I’d spare their lives. Routed colonies of goblins and exterminated whole species.” Alek met the gaze of each and every guardsman. “So what makes you think that three untrained, starving, drunken men would have any chance against me? Is it the group that makes you bold?” The three men take a step back, slowly lowering their spears at Alek, certain he’s going to cut them down where they stand. “Luckily for you, I have somewhere to be.” He drops two Lions on the ground. “This should get you drunk tonight and for many nights after this.”

Alek has been gone for a long time before the guards make their move to grab the coins on the ground, tussling over them.

Alek walks. Shimmerhorn disappears into the distance and is replaced by an ever thickening grove of elms, beech and birch trees. The sun disappears behind the Cold Volcanoes and is slowly replaced by a half moon, sending its illumination across the forest. Alek takes out his DeMiles artifact and keeps walking to where he told Sophia he would be.

He sets aside his gear and collects some wood, igniting it with some flint he keeps in his pocket. Before long, a fire is crackling nicely, filling the air.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqqpcFj8G-s

Attaching the Fish Hook to a piece of twine, Alek throws it into the river then attaches the twine to his big toe. The Fish Hook dances in the water and it isn’t long before it attracts a fish. He throws the hook back in. He’s expecting a guest.

There is a soft, warm wind blowing from the south, from the lands of the Prusstian Empire. Its nice, comfortable.

It isn’t long before Daughter Delport joins Alek, sitting next to him.

“I heard you coming from two hundred yards away. You really must work on that if you are to join me to the next major city Daughter Delport.”

“Well,” she shoots back “In my defence, Daughters rarely have to go tramping through the woods in the night.”

“Fair enough.” Alek sits up and looks at her. Shes dressed like a peasant with a rough spun cloak, covering a black common wool dress. “Theres a fish over there. Its been cooked with a bit of wild mint and lemon. Where did you get those clothes?”

“The Abbot isn’t the only one stashing money away. I took one of every fifteen baths gold and actually gave the majority of it away. I kept some for emergencies. I figured this classified as an emergency and bought some stuff at the marketplace this evening.”
She takes a bite out of the fish, murmuring that its good. “So,” she said, wiping her mouth from the excess grease “where to now?”

She knows some minor healing techniques that'll heal you for damage outside of battle.
Currently, she isn't much help in battle as she is a Daughter of the religious order.
To get her to enter battle with you, you'll have to get her to become your COMPANION. As it stands, shes NEUTRAL.
You can level these up through small side missions that'll arise periodically.
In battle, she plays the NPC role of a healer

Prusstia is a land in flux. Its emperor, Emperor Vithmiris, is dying at the ripe old age of ninety-eight and its day to day runnings is done by his son, Prince Sigesar, a cruel and torturous man who delights in keeping his population oppressed. Using his court sorcerers and his military might, he rules with an iron fist.
The main group to oppose the Prince are the Midnight Insurgency, named after their oath ceremonies. Secretive and highly hostile to outsiders, they use terrorism techniques to burn the current government to the ground.

Both sides are far from bloodless in this power struggle, its up to Alek to decide which one to side for.

The sun rises and the mist clears away. The path is clear now, to the south! Alek has been hearing rumours of vile magiks being used by the government there to repress the population, with a healthy side of political murder and imprisonment serving along side it.

The road stretches out off into the distance, trees filling the expanse. This is Wild territory, belonging to the beasts and things that go bump in the night.

The lone pockets of civilisation do their best to keep the darkness at bay, but accidents still happen and the people who live out here are hardy and quick to anger, slow to forget and delight in bringing upstarts down a peg. This includes the tax men of the Empire and Dynasty who claim this area and collect their tithes in men or materials. It isnt unknown for these men to go missing on their way back to their respective capital and the tithe back in the hands of the village that gave it away.

"The Wild trick is," continued Alek "to follow the tax man as he collects on your neighbouring villages and then get him and his caravan when the bags are full so to speak. That way you get the biggest return and the caravan is usually so full and slow that they can't really get away."

"That sounds...evil. Killing someone for doing their job?" Daughter Delport says, a worried look crossing her face.

Alek shrugs "Its just the way it is out here. The Empire and the Dynasty both collect and tax till these people are bled dry. Without raids and counter raids, these villages wouldnt survive."

Alek and his mentor had stayed with a few tribes in this area for a winter when Alek was just a young lad and these tribes were constantly forming, splintering and reforming again in a never ending cycle as food became scarce, the materials they used for trading boomed and busted. As Alek and Daughter Delport debated the finer points of evil vs survival, they passed a burnt out wooden home.

"That," Alek said, pointing it out "was probably the chieftains house of some local tribe. Typically the boss would have the permanent dwelling and his followers would have tents and yurts strewn around." He goes over to inspect the ashes and burnt wood. The forest is slowly reclaiming it all, vines growing thick at the base of the building.
"If I had to guess, Id say this chief lasted two, maybe three, summers before a rival killed him off. Who knows really? These are the Wild lands."

As the road snaked its way through the forest, Alek told her about the finer points of monster hunting. "Let them come to you. Try and stay out of reach. Make them angry if they understand common. Beasts are driven by their baser instincts, use that against them" were just some of the lessons he tried to impart. He might as well been speaking Phoenican but she was polite enough to nod along as he rambled.
For her part, she tried to teach him about alchemy and the healing arts. Which part of the Prockleberry to pick, how to choose between a poisonous artonsen leaf and a normal one (lighter green is poisonous if you were wondering). She might as well been talking to a brick wall.
>>
>>3251482
"If I can pay someone to make these potions for me and pick the plants," he'd argued "why bother to learn them?"

"I thought Witch Hunters were supposed to be self sufficient?"

"For sure. I learnt this stuff when I was with my mentor but I havent used it in years." To which Sophia threw up her hands in disbelief.

They passed a river where they saw a Giant Toad, lazily catching fish with its huge tongue.
They saw two Merry Birds singing in the trees, creating a melody that briefly stopped all the animals in the area in their tracks, enraptured by the song.

Darkness came and they hunkered down for the night.
"So Alek," Sophia lazily murmured, warmed and sleepy by the fire "what do you think about evil?"

>Evil is evil. End of discussion.
>Evil can be redeemed under the right circumstances

>Evil can be redeemed under the right circumstances
Your mercy choices have been changed to reflect that

Alek mused for a minute. On one hand, evil was evil. Every single beast on earth was inbuilt with a moral compass. Thats why you didnt see birds murdering their own young, wolves needlessly killing or the average man slaying their neighbour. Because on some basic level, humans and beasts knew what went against the natural code.
On the other hand, Cecil himself probably wasnt evil, just caught up with some bad luck and people. Maybe if he'd done something to negate his wolfism, he'd be alive.

"I believe that evil is within all of us." Alek said after a while. "Or at least, the capability to do evil. Some folk might do evil their entire lives, never repenting, never trying to help themselves. I think they should be put down immediately. Other folk might snap and do evil, murder a neighbour or follow an order in war that they shouldn't of. Those are the folk that need to repent. Evil is like a small black seed that takes root in your soul, if you dont flush it out, you begin to love it. I am yet to see an repeat evil doer repent for their deeds."

Sophia responded with a loud snore.

Another day of walking ensured where they got to know one another.
Her favourite colour was blue, she liked the helping part of being a Daughter but hated the scripture part. Her fondest memory was getting drunk at the temple off church wine and even liked the hangover part. Their Mother had made them recite scripture and the Seven Holy Truths all morning as punishment. Still her favourite memory, flirting with the Sons and Brothers.

"How did you join the temple? Forgive me Daughter Delport, but you don't seem like the most religious person I've ever met."

Sophia looked down "Actually, uh, I'm a Forgotten Child."

Alek almost gasped but held his tongue. A Forgotten Child was a child sold into the service of the High Church. 'A Forgotten Child is a child best left forgotten' as the saying went. These children were raised in the service of the Church, going into administrative roles or spirtual roles and formed the bulk of the Church bureaucracy.

"I'm sorry to hear that Daughter Delport" Alek said.

"Its ok," she replied "It happened about 12 summers ago and I understand why they did it. Too mant debts and I was just another mouth to feed. Besides, I still have this." She pulled out a metal necklace with a bluejay pendant attached to it. "It reminds me of them and the good times I had with them."

They walked in silence along the winding road.

Nice to know her better, it seems Alek has a chance there afterall.

Suddenly, Alek held up his hand. “Listen. Do you hear that?”

Sophia strained to hear. There was nothing save for the wind rustling through the trees. No bees buzzing, no birds singing. “I don’t hear anything.”

“Exactly. Be on guard.”

As soon as Alek said that, a piercing scream echoed through the forest!

Alek took lead “Follow me and don’t race ahead. We don’t know whats attacking or being attacked.”

Over fallen logs and mossy boulders they bounded, the screams getting more intense and louder as they closed in. Eventually they came to a clearing where they saw a woman being accosted by two men, ripping her clothes and shouting about all the vulgar things they were gonna do to her. Both were dressed in heavy lumberjack gear and a green cloak, their axes just off to the side.

“Stay here Daughter Delport. I have some business.” Alek said, firmly placing her behind a tree. Striding out into the clearing, Alek pointed his pistol into the air and fired BANG

“Unhand her you bastards before I put a hole through your skulls!”

The two men took one look at this glowering man of death before looking at each other and running into the trees, soon lost from sight.

The woman falls at Aleks feet, crying. “Thank you! Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!” Her shirt is torn but, apart from a gash on her face, she seems unharmed.
“How can I ever repay you?”

“Oh I did nothing ma’am. Just helping out.”

“Is it safe?” Called Sophia from behind her tree.

“Two of you?” Said the woman, still on her knees “Well, I must take you to my tribe. They’d love to have you! For saving me of course! We can have dinner together!”

When she says tribe is she referring to those tribes we were talking to Sophia about earlier?

What else do we know about them.

If we have a spare robe or something give it to her since her shirt is ruined.
>>
>>3253642
What do you plan to do with them? They're not worth much and your own sword is infinitely better.

>>3253647
Tribes in the Wild are constantly forming, splintering and reforming again in a never ending cycle of life and destruction. Sometimes a chieftain can rise multiple times to take control of a tribe but more often than not, tribes only last for a summer or two before disbanding due to food stocks, raids or ill omens.
Tribes in the Wild often don't have names because why bother? Tribes can range from a few families to a hundred families working together.
Tribes often produce logs to sell in more civilized areas along with beast fur and plant life to alchemists.
>>
>>3253660
Well sometime there are some doors that need to be opened and kick isn't sufficient.
Sophia doesn't really have a weapon i think
Axe's are more of a tools and weapons and present utility that sword couldn't provide
Ist not like we are have great amount of money
Also why would we leave potential weapons in hands of rapists?
>>
>>3253660
Are we near a town? Where could thise two have come fron?

They were lunberjacks so they could be from that log industry the tribes have, maybe from the same tribe as her or a rival one, ask her about it.
>>
>>3253633
>>Go with the woman, night is soon to fall anyways.

>>3253667
Tribals don't have towns. They've got a few huts but usually just use donkeys or horses to haul their lumber.
You are near a tribal settlement
>>
>>3253683
Hmm

Ask her if she knew those two, they are either from her tribe or very far from home, let's see if catch her lying or something, or if she is really in trouble.
It jist feels a little strange.

In the end we will end up following her back to the tribe, worst case they might try to rob us like they do the taxmen or if this is legit we might get a reward.

“Sure!” beamed Sophia, looking at Alek nodding slightly “We’d love to come for dinner!”

“And we’d love to have you! My name is Clara.” she tried to get to her feet but collapsed under her own weight. “Would either of you by any chance be able to help me to my feet? Those men seem to have hurt me more than it seems. I can direct you back.”

Clara is a beauty. Ashen skin with deep blue eyes and raven black hair and red, plump lips. When she laughed at a corny Alek joke, the Merrybirds seem dull in comparison. When she looked at Alek through half lidded eyes, his heart beats faster. How such a vision of lovliness had survived out in the Wild was anyone's guess. Perhaps her tribe was especially powerful?

“Just up here. Thank you both so much!” Clara says, smiling at both of them “my family will be so happy!”

A small child is the first one to see them, stopping his chore of splitting wood and giving a cry of “Eeeiii”, pointing at the trio. One by one, members of the tribe come out from their huts, until there is about fifteen of them all together. An old woman with silver hair breaks rank “Clara! My beautiful daughter! What happened?” She viciously turns on Alek and Sophia “Did you do this to her?”

“Mama! No. They saved me from two brutes. I was out picking Murtlewood flowers when I was attacked.” She grabbed Alek by the shoulder “This one saved me!”

“A hero?” Mama quickly turns into a docile kitten, hugging Alek and kissing him on the cheek “Well, if we have a hero in our midst we must have them for dinner!”

“Really ma’am, it was no bother. Happy to help.” Alek isn’t quite sure of what to say. In civilisation, he is an outcast, only called upon when things were extremely bad. But here? Accepted so readily? It is a...strange feeling.

“Papa!” Mama calls and a big man, easily seven feet tall, silver hair and covered in rune tattoos steps forward. “Please make sure our guests are comfortable until dinner.”

“This way.” He points to a hut a bit further away from the main camp. His arms are as thick as tree trunks, toned from the many years felling trees. “Please.”

As they entered the hut, two cloaks were hung up on the wall. Two familiar looking cloaks. Two green cloaks. Alek is already shouting for Sophia to run as Papa knocks him out with one punch, Sophia screams once and is knocked out.

Alek is tied up.

Sophia is tied up.

The hut reeks of blood and meat. As Alek looks to his left he sees Sophia, still thankfully knocked out. As he looks to the right, he sees a human corpse on a table, missing limbs and missing organs. Its ribs have been cracked open and flies buzz around, the face is stretched in an endless scream.

“Well, well, well. What do we have here?” The Imp has strolled into view from his little dimension, wearing a nice little suit. “This doesn’t look like a fun little time you’re having.

“Enough Imp. Release me. You can’t collect on my soul just yet. Nice suit by the way. Did I interrupt a date?”

The door is opened by a guard, posted outside. A swarthy man with a copper beard enters, drunk as a Dwarf. “Shu’ up Meat! Firs’ and only warnin’ before I start laying into ya!” He laughs “I’ve always liked me meat a little tenderised anyways! *hic*” He gives Alek a swift kick to the stomach before wandering outside again.

“As much as I would like to release you, I cannot. I have no powers beyond giving information in the mortal realm. Looks like you’re doomed to die here, eaten by cannibals.” The Imp starts to shadowbox, ignoring the date jibe “Oof. And that right hook from Papa. I felt that from Below. Seriously. I wouldn’t want to be you in six hours. Thats when you’ll really feel it.”

The Imp walked around the room as Alek tried to escape in vain, touching random objects and commenting on his doom and how sad he was that he wasn’t going to be able to taste Aleks soul.

“Can you possess?” Alek asks as he struggles.

“Can I possess? Can I possess he asks” he scoffs “Of course I can possess. I’ll just need that person to say a key phrase.”

“Can it be anything?” Alek asks to which the Imp nods in the affirmative.

“Meat Charles shar-degat tiemez goloth tiam” Alek starts chanting, in low volume, slowly getting louder “Meat Charles shar-degat tiemez goloth tiam”

Sophia rowses from her coma, slowly and groggily. “W-what are you doing Alek?”

“Meat Charles shar-degat tiemez goloth tiam! Meat Charles shar-degat tiemez goloth tiam! Meat Charles shar-degat tiemez goloth tiam-”

The door is kicked in by a guard posted from outside “Right! That’s it Meat! You’ve done it now. You know what? I really don’t give you enough credit Alek. You’re actually quite a smart man.”

“There will be enough time for flattery later. Get me out of this. And Sophia as well.”

“Alek. What is going on?” Sophia asks as the guard unties her.

Alek takes a deep breath. “Well, although theres not really time to explain now. Sophia please meet my Imp.”

“Pleased to meet ya.” he says as he unties Alek “So whats your game plan now? I can feel that precious sword of yours in the big hut. Or I guess you can bail. Whatever. Your call now. I’m going back to Below. I’ve got...something waiting for me.” and with that, he drew the guards short sword and slit his own throat, blood gushing out, hot and sticky onto the floor.

besides, if they were captured, since their cloaks were on the hut they would be in the larder hut with us.

trust me on this, they were in on it, it's only when we see the cloaks that we realize it was a trap, they are part of the cannibal family since there is nowhere else around where two lumberjacks could live and work and sell their things, there's literally no other village or tribe around besides this one, it was a scene to lead us to a trap
>>

Grabbing the knife from the body still choking on its own blood, Alek turns to Sophia. “No matter what happens, I want you to run. Don’t look behind you, don’t look for me. Just run. Can you promise me that?”

Sophia, wide eyed and on the verge of tears, nods silently.

“Ok, good.” Alek brings her to the window points out “I want you to follow the moon until you come to a river. Stay by the river. I’ll find you.”

“Where are you going to go?”

“I’m gonna get my stuff back.”

Gained rusted knife: 4 damage

“Where is Greuth?” asks Mama from the campfire. She has been cutting potatoes and other wild vegetables. “He’s not by his post.” She beckons at a man getting drunk with two others “Jaryd. Greuth has gone missing. Go make sure he hasn’t pissed himself into a stupor.”

Moments later, hes back, breathless. “Greuth dead! Meat gone!”

“Both of the cuts?”

“Both meat gone!”

Mama jumps up, the vegetables in her lap flying everywhere “You lot! Stop drinking! Your meat has gone! There will be no dinner if you don’t catch it!”

Spreading out, Papa took several men into the forest to try and pick up some tracks whilst some others spread out and attempted to find the tracks.

Alek heard the men bound past, drunkenly yelling obscenities and hollering at the top of their lungs. He could only hope that Sophia was faster than them and could evade them. But he wasn’t leaving it to chance, he’d hid in the undergrowth, right next to the house and was counting on the drunkenness of the men and the darkness to be enough to hide him from view.

As the men ran past, Alek waited and counted to one hundred and runs to the next hut. This hut simply furnished; one big bed, a small wooden table and a torch that threw a flickering light around the small space. Grabbing the torch, Alek puts it under the bed where it quickly starts to smoulder.

The big hut is his goal. These little huts hold no worth aside from little trinkets to their gods and poorly maintained weapons.

Crouching and running towards the big hut, Alek is about to open the door when he is yanked from behind and thrown onto the ground.

“Meat here! Meat here! Gottem!” A man yells, attracting the attention of others. He brandishes a cleaver, old blood encrusted into it. Two men quickly arrive, both clutching long knifes, ready to strike at Alek.

Ok, we just have 3 turns to kill the fuckers and then run off, or else we will be dead tired and in a bad spot, also, if we take too long they might catch Sophia. i'm just worried

Lets use demonic possession and try to kill 1 or 2 instantly, the other will probably try to run off and we can use our demonic strenght to rush the big hut, get our things and follow after sophia.

Three men stand before you, blocking the door. No. Three worms. Three fools who walk unexpectedly to the gallows. Their sunken eyes gaze at Alek like he is some kind of walking treat and their mouths salivate at the thought of roasting him over a fire. Usually, he would dispatch of these animals in the same way he’d kill a bug, but he was in a hurry and these...people were slowing him down. Drastic times called for drastic measures.

“Thurb tizziyak woolum! Guran bysi Dilat!” Alek chanted, gripping his blade and allowing the Below to enter his body and take control. His muscles swelled to far beyond what a mortals body could take, boney growths sprouted from his head and he could feel a fire burn within him. Claws that were sharp as razors grew from his fingers and his teeth turned bladed.

The men took a step back instinctively. What was a man mere moments ago, had transformed into a monster. One man, braver than the rest took a half hearted stab at Alek, grazing his chest. A single drop of blood spilt out.

For his trouble, Alek grabbed the man and tore out his throat, blood spraying everywhere, shuddering at his final breath.

Another man charged at Alek, perhaps attempting to take advantage of him being distracted. Alek could feel the vibrations in the air and the man wasn’t a threat. He grabbed the man by the throat and threw him to the ground, stamping on his face with his now cloven feet. One stamp, the mans face was a mess of broken teeth. Two stamps and the jaw and cheekbones were broken, blood spurting out. The third stamp and the mans eye popped out.

The mans mouth gurgles with blood under Aleks foot, his hands scrabbling for his knife that has flown out of his hand. He finds it, grasping it with the desperation of a man condemned. He finds the blade and stabs it into Aleks leg. It finds no purchase. Another drop of blood is spilt. Alek gives one more stamp and crushes the mans head.

A few huts over, the bed has caught fire, the smouldering turning into a blazing inferno. The Tribe was encroaching on Alek, knives drawn but they’re forced to respond to the fire lest it envelop their own huts. All but one who keeps moving forward silently.

Alek enters the hut and shuts the door behind him. Its a mish mash of entire cultures weapons and clothes. Shields emblazoned with the Phoenix from the Dynasty to the north, axes with runes that most probably came from the raiders in the Ice Lands, muskets from the Empire, swords from a unknown origin. How many travellers have passed through here? How much blood does this Tribe have on its hands?

Searching through the hut, he quickly finds his own sword, armour and pistol again.

Give me a 1d100 to see what kind of loot you find.

Alek searched the hut for...something. He wasn’t really sure what to be honest. He just knew he’d be damned if he left this hellhole empty handed.

Through the clothes of dead people, the empty satchel bags and the tool bags in order to find something only turning up empty and angry. Not only that but he could feel himself deflating. The daemon was being called back to the Below. The boney protrusions sunk back into his head, painfully. His nails retracted painfully and the fire within was tempered and then extinguished. A wave of tiredness washed over him and all he wanted to do was go to sleep. He continued his search, wearily. He would not turn away without a trinket.

It was only when he searched the drawers that he found something, a purse of gold. He’d have to search it and see how much he got when he got away but it felt heavy.

“Bastard!” A frail old voice yelled at him from the doorway “You come into my home! You ransack it and steal from me? Me? I will feed you your own guts! I will make a soup from your skin and a jelly from your eyeballs!” Mama had returned. She rushed at him with her own knife, ready to disembowel him. Alek was having none of it, clothed in his own runic armour, armed with his righteous sword he easily overpowered the ancient woman, punching her in the face. His own tiredness momentarily suppressed.

“You are far from innocent hag. If we were in a more civilised area, I would take you captive and see you hang from the noose for cannibalism, murder, theft and...lets just say littering.”

What do you do?
>Kill her. She has done much evil.

Dunno about you guys but cannibalism is a big red line for me.

>>Let her live. Maybe she will repent in time.

I say let her live not for the repent part, but because if we kill her now they will probably chase us to hell and back, just punch her, we will come back here with authorities and deal with them, but right now we are in an incredibly bad spot
killing her won't stop the cannibals, it will only make things harder for us on the short term

>>
“For the crimes against humanity, against the soul and against common decency, I sentence you to…” She closed her eyes, ready to meet the Maker “repent. I sentence you to repent. I will be back, Mama. I want you to think upon this day each time you go to sleep, feel how frail you are right now, how helpless. I want you to reflect on how many people you’ve killed, how many bodies you’ve consumed. How they might’ve felt in their last moments, chained to the wall like a dog, no hope, no light at the end of the tunnel, no hero coming in to save them. I want you to think on this and then, when you’re done thinking, I want you to come find me. I’ll be in the capital to the south.” Alek dropped her to the ground and sauntered out of the hut and into the drizzle, quickly being swallowed up by the fog.

Mama drops to her knees and there she stays. She stays there until the fire is brought under control. She stays there when the rest of the Tribe arrives back and asks her what to do. She stays there until Papa comes back and hugs her, squeezes her tightly.

Alek walks through the forest, exhausted. His battle has racked his body and he must find warmth before too long. He must find Sophia before too long. He can only hope that she was not captured. Follow the moon until she reaches the river is what he told her and he can only hope that she followed his instructions.

There! Off in the distance! A light, nay, a small fire. Sound: a babbling brooke. There she is! A sight for sore eyes! She has lit a small fire near the river, cooking...something delicious.

Alek wanders into camp intending to say something witty, charming and serious at the same time. Something comes out of his mouth (he’s not sure what) before he collapses on his face.

That mini quest is over anons! You survived! Would you like to know the secret boss battle and the missed loot? Or is it better left unsaid?

If you'd killed Mama, Papa would've hunted you down with a search party rolliing with a hard difficulty.
0-Papa and 4 others find you
1- Papa and 2 others find you
2- Just Papa finds you
3-You manage to escape
Papa had a very low hitting chance (steady around the DC: 20 mark) but dealt 14 damage per hit and had a health pool of 35. The other folk hit for a damage of 6 and had a health pool of 8.
I must say, I was a little worried when you picked Daemonic Possession which would've drive your defence dc up to 45 if you ended up fighting him.
Loot wise: if you'd passed it, you would've looted a tome that would've allowed you to learn Witches Eye I.
>>3256379
Can I ask what made you tense about it?
>>
>>3256401
Yeah with the way our dice has been going to hell with that.
>>
>>3256401
the whole situation, we were unarmed inside a village of canibals and we got found out on the first try, than we used our ace in the hole on the first fight to try and finish it quickly but it backfired and we were almost left tired and injured in the middle of the same cannibal village.
then there was Sophia to worry about and if papa ever came after us we would be done, good thing we spared mama, the way we are rolling poorly today I wouldn't like our chances

all in all, it was a nice bit of action that we could have done better but failed at the dice, it was good.

now, for Sophia cuddling.....kek
>>
>>3256407
To be honest I don't think our overall strategy was that bad, just that our RNG sucked (which is out of our hands anyway)
>>
>>3256411
I agree with you, but it was a high risk strategy, I voted for it too, and when we it sorta backfired we were in a tight spot
>>
>>3256412
It was high risk yeah but given our rolls I'd say the extra damage we got from that was crucial. Anyway yes time for Sophia to nurse us back to health (again)
>>
>>3256415
The extra damage made all the difference, what really fucked us was missing 5 out of 6 rolls in a DC 45, that was crazy, only one more success and we would have killed them.

The fire was crucial too, made mkst of the village go after it and made Papa give up the chase on Sophia.
