On a distant planet, spinning in the depths of space, around a distant, forgotten star, night falls.

I am standing in the night, with a pleasant heaviness of boltgun resting in my hands, my brothers around me.

They say that a group is crows is called 'murder'. Our progenitors, blessed be their geneseed, were called the Raven Guard. We bear their blood in our veins, so I guess we are also crows of sorts. I guess it would be appropriate calling my squad a 'murder' then as well. A group of shadows sitting in the dark, waiting for my order. Below we see a festival of fires and white shapes, mingling in the dark.

Your sergeant taps you on the shoulder-pad.
>Sir, you have to take a look at this.
He shows you a data-pad.
>There's a signal coming from the silo on the other side of the town. Unlike most of the signals around here, it seems to be of the modern kind. Should we investigate or wait for the conclusion of the festival?

Have half the unit prepare to intervene in the festival to prevent them lighting up human sacrifices.

Meanwhile the other half should remain in concealed positions around the area, and keeping an eye on that signal.

Do you stay with the festival or with the group that will intervene?

Be part of the group that prepares to intervene with the festival. Our knowledge of Imperial litanies should help us show them our allegiance and authority.

Meanwhile the group on overwatch should be prepared to provide covering fire etc. if something goes wrong and should warn us if that signal approaches and is hostile.

Suddenly the action down on the festival ground stops and everyone falls silent. I look around and focus on the action near the altar. The priest takes out a long blade and raises it over the head of the first sacrificial victim, who submits willingly to him, while others are singing a low, unrecognizable chant. I nod to myself - it is time, I give the order.

My crows fly out of the twilight into the area lit up by the festival fires. I can see the confusion on the faces of the believers, as marines start chanting Imperial litanies, devout festival goers drop to their knees and raise their hands into the air. High priest falters for a moment and drops his knife to the side.

Everything falls silent around us. Leader of the faithful approaches me on his knees, eyes full of joyous tears, in broken Low Gothic he addresses me:
> Praise! Praise! Praise! Sky giants are back!

Suddenly, voxcaster comes to life, it's Reidor:
>Chaplain, we matched the signal. It's Eldar. I don't know what they are doing in this town, but we have a 90% match confirmation from the ship, seems like their kind of system. It's a matter of time until they detect us as well. Should we go on radio silence?

Do you?

"Craftworld or Commorite brother?" Only query for Reidor.

Then address the people. "Ave citizens. Please. There is no need for further sacrifice. The Emperor's gaze is watching over you now."

Continue to give some basic sermons to the masses while the marines with us examine the alter and start questioning the high priest on the basics of the planet's status.

Reidor's reply is unclear. The channel goes silent.

The priest approaches me, tries to take me by the hand, but only manages to hold my heavily armoured finger and then gently tugs to follow him towards an opening into what must be a church.
>Come, come! The day of Blue Light has come! Celebration is true, ritual is real! Come! Gifts await! Protect from danger!

Do you follow or not?

After we enter the gateway, priest starts taking us down the spiraling, ancient staircase. It is just wide enough for me to pass, but despite of my enhanced psyche I do feel a light tinge of claustrophobia in my demeanour.

As we descend the stairs, priest tries his best to explain me how glad he was for us to arrive. Apparently, I was sent by the Emperor. And sure I was, I didn't contradict him. After all, who knows what caused the warp disturbance, which left us stranded in this system. According to the babbling monk, today was the Blue Light festival, which is held every three years. I inquired about the curious name. Apparently it comes from some people or beings, which the priest calls Blue Ones. Maybe he means Ultramarines?

They have arrived a long time ago, when the colony of Zera Secundus was beset by a dark disease that was killing everyone. Blue Ones fought the disease and eradicated it, however in return for it, they demanded that every three years, a certain number of people should be sacrificed to their honour. This gets me worried. Priest explains, that Blue Ones are great warriors and obviously they require servants to serve them in the afterlife, where they normally live.

But at the same time he says that a few decades ago a missionary visited Zera and he was appalled by the practice, tried to stop it. This obviously would create a great tragedy, so he had to be sacrificed as well, but before he was sent to the Emperor, he prophesised, that one day mighty giants will come from the skies to liberate this world and will replace Blue Ones as the protectors of this world.

So... This is the reason why everyone greets me as some long lost fairy tale hero.

My men have followed me down into the depths of the hidden cathedral as well. At the bottom of the stairs, priest awaits us.

He waves his hands around the room, both proud and awed of what he was showing us. I didn't register it at first, but it was bodies, or rather pieces of bodies. Arms, legs, skulls, torsos, all covered in what must have been molten metal, neatly integrated like decorations around the walls of the cathedral. Some of them were chained to the walls, others nailed into place. Priests shouts in defiance at the bodies:
>These were the cursed ones, the disease! They paid their price and their bodies remind us of the horror the befell our ancestors! But we still have the Eye! It is forbidden to show or touch, by the decree of the Blue Ones, but if you want to, I can give it to you! You are here now, so you will be our new protectors, we can get rid of the Blue Ones and sacrifice people instead to the Sky Warriors! A holy man prophesised your coming, so your magic must be even stronger!

>>3223665
>Tall, inhuman, never took off their helmets, and their armour was of blueish hue...

You hear voxcaster crackling, but nothing comes online. Maybe Reidor is trying to get through, or maybe it is just the anomalies from being underneath the mountain.

do they show signs of any disease?
have the priest describe the eye in more detail, did it come with the blue ones or did the blue ones fight against it somehow?

The bodies look for the most part "clean cut", also not entirely human, as if someone was trying to make decorations out of them, rather than just cover them in metal, elongated and with weird angles, but it's hard to say as most of them are hidden in the walls.

Priest doesn't know anything about the disease or the fight - it happened centuries before he was born. Though the Eye was left over after the fight with the disease and the Blue Ones ordered humans to leave it alone.

Their armour ranged from light to dark blue.

>"Roger, Chaplain."
I follow the priest, this time alone, even deeper into the cathedral. He takes me to a small altar, half hidden in the very foundation of the building. The priest with a single pull drags away material covering a bright object.
>Here it is. The Eye!
I find myself looking at a round orb of dull, swamp green light that seems to be encased in a mesh of dark filament. It is resting on a hand-shaped stand, sticking out of the wall. It looks weird, unnatural and surprisingly alive, even if passive.
>>
>>3223853
not touching or looking at it for a prolonged time is probably a good idea.

does it look like a nurglite artifact?
>>
>>3223853
Does it carry any taint? Does our blessed Rosarius or Crozius react to its presence?
>>
>>3223864
>>3223859
It doesn't seem to carry any overt threat that you would detect, but you for some reason suspect, that it might be of xenos origin - the metal-covered hand holding it looks out of proportion. At least it doesn't exude any poisonous vapours, your armour would have warned you already.
>>
>>3223891
Post a couple of marines to guard the orb.

"Nothing in or out. No one touches it. No one moves it. Understood brothers?"

Then lets head back outside and see if we can regroup with Reidor. Call out for them.

Then we should do a big more investigating. Examine the altar. Take a look at any old carvings or relics/ruins etc. Hear the stories and piece what we can together and keep an eye on that damn eldar signal.

As a trained Chaplain, you would be the first one to feel if any of the effects you mentioned would become reality.

>>3223900
As you leave two of your men to guard the Eye, your vox crackles again:
>This is Reidor, we are under attack, I repeat, we are engaged at the factory, 800 yards from the square, NW bearing. We are fighting Eldar, tough bastards, they got Raefor, we need reinforcements, now! There are dozens of them!
