As Brother patreus speaks to the guard you prepare to exit the chimera.
The doors open and you see a myriad of guard forces running around with what looks like hive scum and youths carrying ammunition to autocannon crews.
The air is tense as guardsmen huddle in trenches using the dead of both sides as cover as ork gargants slowly approach mile by mile screened by hordes of greenskins underfoot while the great effigies to their heathen gods squash their own forces underneath their titanic legs as they come like a tide of scrap metal to overwhelm the imperium.
But in contrast the salamanders are spread across the lines bolters and flamers ready and raising morale with their presence ready to face the Greenskin threat with the might of man.

The news is heard with panic from some and anticipation from others down the line.
Commissars chamber shots and ministorum priests begin litanies.
Behind you the great rumble of land raider redeemers belonging to the salamanders ready to cull the horde.
Now you and your brothers feel it.The ground trembles and shakes as spare shells rattle in cases and a tremendous voice is heard

The greenskins charge down the field bellowing their foul warcries as men sight their shots and Astartes bellow their own warcries in defiance

You fire first as the searing heat of your cannons smash into the varied armor of the greenskins as your blasts chew through one of the stompas leaving it engine killed brother ambriels blast goes wide and instead is wasted smashing into a grot horde.
The gargants fire before the guard can and great portions of the front line shatter as bolter teams are blasted apart in milliseconds and russes are sent flying head over heels to land on their sides in the back lines crushing the unfortunates in the way.
Many guardsmen falter under the barrage and the weak willed try to run before being shot as example by readied commissars.
but the fear has taken hold and panic is marked by the shots of the guard as many go wide from intended targets still hitting due to the vastness of the tide but missing nobz and hitting gretchin or tanks.
The salamanders fire after with great streaks of boltfire racketing across the battlefield as greenskins fall and parts of the greenskins falter for mere seconds with the death of their nob before the others rally them back into the WAAAGH the great shots from the flamers of the salamanders work to better effect with at least holding the bulk of the horde back from melee at least for now.

But now the redeemers have run out of flame and the green tide has not been quenched you resight your gun and fire but hit little more than a few plates melted off an overextending stompa and armbriel fares worse with his shot overheating his gun at least for a time,
The salamander fire once more but to lessened effect as shot dissipate under the unstoppable green tide,
The guard once more fire steams of lasfire and mortar shells but it is too little to stop the green tide.
"WAAAAAAGH" is the noise that happens as the orks charge through barbed wire and minefield as boys crash through defences and charge you.
Your brother blast the first few with their bolters but now eschew them for whirring chainswords as you and ambriel switch to knives.

The orks charged and you rolled badly so the majority of the horde made it to the front lines rather easily without losing much coherency as the gargants shattered the line enough that no one pulled off much accuracy and now its melee time for the entire front line pretty much.

With one blow you cut the head of the first ork and subsequently slaughter the surrounding foes as you and your brothers cleave a bloody hole in the green tide claiming at least 9 dozen kills between you in the span of a minute
Through the fog and blood however you spot a true foe a warboss has come to reap the blood of man as it bellows its foul challenge.

You and ambriel fire your cannons with synchronicity and evaporate the helm of two of the stompas and manage to save a russ detachment from annihilation across the line the redeemers of the salamanders have finished undergoing the rite of reloading by techmarines and now are disgorging mighty streams of fire into the orkish lines melting infantry and trukks and breaking ork attempts to break through the line as their own devastators score success by taking out the lower bombardment gun of a gargant with lazcannon fire.
The guard enjoy lesser but no less needed victories as the fresh reserves plug the lines and mass locations of greenskins are evaporated by signalled artillery.
your radio chimes in however
"This is the battle barge Europae of the blood angels fleet prepare for impact"

The air suddenly heats to boiling levels as the lances of the naval fleet impact with a gargant erasing it from atmosphere and throwing a huge dust cloud that obscures the land and snows ash against the hive.

The cannons are ready and you and brother ambriel time your shots perfectly as 2 of the ork warbosses on the main line are evaporated under your fire bodyguards and all as you shoot cones of fire that chews through the foe.
Salamander forces not to be outdone re ignite flamers and push the front lines back as swathes of Boyz are burned alive as the cry of the WAAAAGH dies with them The steel legion are hammered but still manage to rally for push to retake the trench and hose down lazfire to keep the orkish armour from just charging through the fire as the adventurous suffer lazcannon damage.
The radio sparks again
"this is the pyre of glory we shall burn the orkish mockeries of titans from the soil of the imperium with vulkans fury take heart brothers
Into the fires of battle, unto the anvil of war!"

But before the barge deals its damage the remaining gargants and stompas fire their deadly salvoes at close range as 2 tank detachments are annihilated and wounded infantry are crushed under the firepower of the orkish machines as wounded regiments finally breath their last on armageddon.
Before the orkish can come again the battle barge fires and the orkish forces are lit up by lance strikes as gargants are evaporated and the ork forces falter and flee leaderless and broken back into the arid plains of armageddon and as the ash clears battle brothers and guardsmen stand together in victory.

Alrighty then.

The Gates to hive acheron have held thanks to the strength of the blood angels once more holding the gate like their gene father sanguinius once did at the imperial palace and although heavy casualties were reaped from the guard from all sector morale is higher than ever with the strength of the astartes reinforcing the front as the steel legion readies itself for the counterattack.
The ravens of kiavahr failed in their mission with the killzone being easily broken as the anvil held with casualties but the hammer was not strong enough and ork armour survived with heavy injuries.

The marines malevolent seem to have fared better as their mistaken prefire now seems to have worked to their advantage as now they cut apart the minor warlords of the ork force with precision shots and accurate devastator fire as they hold back their iron tide from approaching with surgical skill and turn the orks incoherent and leaderless.

The blood is sunken deep into the ash of Armageddon as limbs and plates fly and Orks fall to bolter fire or brothers have plate cracked by savage blows your cannon fires well but it cannot stall the tide forever as when one demolisher does down a baneblade takes its place showering allies in a hail of fire ambriel recieves similar results while your more bloodthristy brothers start taking the lives of nobz now that the line is pushed as hard as it is.
The marines malevolent finally recieve an end to their previous victories as the orks have their warbosses take the field to rally the push and begin pressing the line and the yellow stained plate of theirs now starts to fall into the blooded ash.
The areonautica start to make the decisive blow but disaster strikes as ork fighters begin to intercept Valkyries and thunderhawks and the air forces are waved off as fury interceptors begin dogfighting the fighta-bommas of the greenskins.

But now vox systems spark with glee and renewed vigor is felt down the line as black templar thunderhawks and aeronautica forces punch a devastating hole into greenskin forces and the Orks begin to falter as the majority of their armour falls to hunter killer missiles and lasfire.

The mass of the aeronautica fleet now makes itself known as valkyries drafted from ground divisions make a push and multilasers pick off stragglers and herd the Orks into juicy targets for thunderhawks and marauder bombers.
The orks now have fled and are being cut down in droves before the might of mankind.
It is a great victory but the butchers bill taken is ill news.But it is also time for celebration as battle stories are shared and templars compare their victories to others and loot trophies of particularly nasty orks to go in their meagre chambers as a record of the eternal crusade.

The god machines of the mechanicus have routed the orks and pushed to the walls of hive tartarus managing to reclaim the fallen titans of legio Metallica before the Orks could defile them.
The blood angels have continued to enjoy great success and used assault squads to perform high intensity raids to keep the shadowswords and ork cannons from damaging the machines of the mechanicus.
the ultramarines took heavy losses screening from infantry assault but was mitigated somewhat by the push of the mechanicus forces however apothecaries now have a lot of work to do preserving the seed of ultramar.

The blood angels once more charge and reinforce the line to desperately stem the tide as the first battle brothers fall in winning skirmishes across the battle.

The Imperial lines waver and fold as multiple greenskin incursions break through headed by deff dreads and killa kans while assorted infantry exploit these holes as guardsmen retreat to set up new fortifications in a fighting withdrawal in chimera and russ formations,
The titans re enter the fight proper firing at the incursions in the line killing guardsmen as well as orks in a desperate attempt to stop the flood to buy time as volcano cannons roar,
The blood angels show their true valour by using death company marines to draw the attention of the most martial orks in order to buy more time as the green tide starts to waver as some orks push towards the guard and some get stuck in fighting the death company as the holes in the line are exploited by jump assault marines.

Searching though the armory you manage to find a vengeance launcher.

Most fortuitous however is finding of a bloodied man wearing the uniform of the commisariat with a crude greenskin power claw as an arm surrounded by the corpses of ork nobz.His nametag says yarrick and medicae teams are called in to the cleared areas to heal him and purify the cleansed areas as you leave to descend further into the hive.

You move into the thick of the hive as ork boys are erased before your fire and a slow methodological purge burns away the spores and mechanicum temples are unsealed and recovered.
The salamanders ate led by tu shan as they burn the orks away with vulkans fury as flamers run hot and greenskins are erased by the sons of nocturne purifying the hive.
The ultramarines begin their own purge lead by terminator teams they soon find their rigid formations a hinderance as stikkbombs fire and knives drag brothers into the shadows as ork kommandos do their work as the ultramarines begin the slow fight of their own.

The ultramarines begin to experience greater success as scout marines are sent ahead to clear areas with combat shotguns and mark areas for terminator pushes as they expand their systematic clearing untroubled by the Ork kommandos.
The salamanders receive similar success as ork hordes are burned alive and minor warbosses preparing for a push out are killed as imperial land is re taken and effigies of the green godz are incinerated as the salamanders prepare to enter the underhive.
you receive great success to start with as boys fall before your wrath and the purge continues at your own momentous pace.The pace does not last long however as patreus has a hab dropped on his head from kunnin placement of stikkbombs before an ambush of the remaining kommandos arrive.

As you break into the underhive you find human bodies eviscerated by ork weaponry occasionaly seeing dead boyz and gretchin next to an armed corpse as forgotten last stands tell a story of their own as you purge whatever greenskins remain in the underhive.
As the salamanders push forth they find enclaves of hold outs and survivors near feral that they take the time to evacuate as they move forward at their momentous pace as the scum of the underhive is cleansed further.
The ultramarines have a hard fight as rubble and crude weaponry are thrown at them cracking plate and sundering armour with scout marines taking the worse of it with genuine casualties but the company ever marches on as they purge the greenskins while yelling their valorous cry that mortifies all who hear it "COURAGE AND HONOUR".

As you move into the true depth of the hive you begin finding isolated human enclaves formed into petty fiefdoms under hive ganger lords and their illicit weapon stockholds.Luckily they do not seem up to a fight due to possibly depleted ammunition judging by the mass of dead greenskin around them.The purge continues going well as orks are burned before you plasma as you move on to continue doing the will of the primarch.
The salamanders continue their slow march as more of the company is set down due to evacuation and refuel runs as they purge as large portion of the underhive.
The scions of ultramar finish off their foes and begin a rapid assault punching in hab blocks and perforating bodies with storm bolters as the slaughter begins in the underhive.
All 3 forces now prepare to enter the hive depths to finish the job.

As the salamanders enter the deep hive they come with steady hearts and conviction with no small amount of pride due to the comparatively easy purge as the greenskins have fallen before their might.in the depths they now find long lost mutants and a few cultists who are quickly erased before the sons of nocturne.
The men of macragge move ever deeper as their hearts are filled with steady anger due to the hard fight and losses taken and take to purging the last holdouts with fury in recompense for there fallen as they double their momentous pace in purging the greenskins.
You and your brother wade deeper yourself breaching and clearing hab blocks and cutting through greenskins.The further down you go however the air suddenly becomes quiet.the reason soon becomes clear as makeshift warnings are registered from both ork and human hands as you venture past them warning of a "Big metatul dakka thing" and a "Heretek abomination ahead" Never the less you are spurred onward towards the foe as no marine would dare leave a mission unfinished!.
you break into a old enclave marked with symbols of the machine god.When you break in you see your foe before you.A small battalion of rusted servitors and at the helm a disgusting metal abomination cloaked in the skin of its own foes.
It cries in its disgusting voice.

The dark angels and marines malevolent descend upon hive helsreach with the burning fury of demigods as orks are dragged out of their holes and beheaded gruesomely as razorbacks and predators decked in the livery of the calibanite knights surge forth from the beachhead breaking the ork hordes outside helsreach bringing an indomitable tide against the greenskin scum.
If the angels are the ferocious hammer then the malevolent are the scalpel as they use pinpoint accuracy to silence ork warlords and crush them under the might of the astartes as expertly place scout teams designate priority targets for whirlwinds to break apart the xenos horde.
In the end the orks outside helsreach are broken and shattered retreating west towards their dread master.

Just to note.
Im planning things ahead so that this will be a bit of a longer quest if interest is kept.
So becoming sword brethren is less the apex of the quest and more of the stepping stone to really open this quest up to do what you want.
Because from there we can have the chaplain,marshal/captain,deathwatch, and just terminator routes open.

Your landing is a thing of legends as astrartes from across the galaxy jump from thunderhawks into the attack positions and begin firing bolters into the horde as you establish a oasis of mankind within the green horde as templars slice and dice greenskins and the sons of the blood rage against the xenos with the wrath of sanguinius.
You fight in pitched close quarters as your plasma cannon melts Kanz and amadiels launcher devastates huge pockets of the green tide,
Suddenly explosions start from the east as the greenskins are caught between your anvil and the steel hammer of the legion as russ tanks and stormlords cut through the tide to your location as chimerae disembark to set up a line while you hold.
But then shock reverberates down the line as the orks retreat and allow you to set up defensive lines as captains quickly rally and marines and guard set up in a fortified line miles across while Dante and high command are scrambling to realise what has occured.
The reason becomes clear.
From the green tide they come.
Stompas alongside their gargant brethren stride forth as well as the much large mega gargants accompanying the green tide with their slow steps shaking the earth and sounding like an unstoppable force.
but no one listens.
great orkish warhorns quieten even as their engines project noise beyoned measure as a millions strong mechanised horde does,
no one listens to that either.
Fear grips the men of armageddon as vox crews recieve reports.

The sound is deafening as millions of lasguns fire in synchronicity and the greenskin line is just dissolved before it as the green tide is halted to a standstill under the weight of bodies.
The muster nobz to rally but vox teams report regroup areas to basilisk and baneblade crews who quickly fire and continue to throw the greenskins into frenzied panic.
The astartes line opens as well with predators and devastator crews prioritizing deff dreads and killa canz as the deadly butcher machines of the xenos are melted before the defenders of mankind.
The infantry of the astartes opens as well with bolters singing into meganob squads and xenos blood seeping into the ground from their blows.
The Orks try desperately to push fast attack craft forth as trukks and grot tanks make a rapid advance just for crews to be fried alive as trukks meet the wrath of the land raider Redeemer firing alongside the flamers of nocturne and tanks are burned from inside from the arrival of the librarians of the chapters as the weak armour is incinerated before warpfire and thrown into their allies with telekinesis as blood angel librarians take their toll.

Scout crews watch the leader of the pack the ork warboss and find him...Laughing?.

The salamanders burn like a mighty flame as with the flames of nocturne they purify the xenos in close quarters as tu shan single handedly beats back ork warbosses and even duels their fetid leader gazhgull before being called to another front in the bloody melee.

As the green tide surges you and the templars stand tall as you fight alongside your brothers in this jungle hellhole as blood and bones fly and guns roar.
You sight you cannon at the foe blasting through them as warbosses melt before your might and you single handedly stall part of the front with the wrath of the emperor.The orks send stormboy squads towards you but your brothers guard you killing them as you duck and weave and counter with your own blade until you manage to get into an upraised position in front of the ork armored line and sight your cannon.
You aim for a deff dread but then come to a shuddering halt as a mega gargant fires its gun and erases an entire regiments worth of men from reality.
You come to a decision as you fire your cannon not at the dread but at the effigy of the green gods.
Your shot is funnelled straight down the lower gun of the gargant and hits its crude power source shattering it causing an eruption heard across miles as the wrath of dorn fells the gargant as its wrecked corpse falls and crushes thousands of ork equipment and takes a massive butchers bill.
The armies of the imperium are spurred by your turning of the tide as lasfire drives the orks back from the line supplemented by bolters as the orks are in full retreat back to their own lines as guardsmen and astartes work in tandem to drive the greenskins back.
salamanders launch the flame of retribution scorching the foe and alighting the entire jungle with vulkans fury as the kin of the blood fight alongside fuelled by their rage as they cull the orks in the name of sanguinius.
Leman russes and baneblades stride forth from the line alongside reserve chimerae as the reserves of the legion push forth in a mechanised assault to sunder the greenskins.
As the great armored push moves to deliver retribution on the greenskins however the shift of battle turns away from a triumphant imperium as the areonautica waver off and the horde of greenskin air craft attains arial superiority and the great armored push begins to be hammered as chimerae are smoked by missiles and baneblade tracks dig into ditches made by suicidal ork aircraft as the greenskins dominate the skies.
Worse yet the air assault has relieved the pressure on the greenskins and now they have been rallied once more but this time underneath their cleverboys as bolter fire begins to be silenced by weirdboy blasts and artillery batteries are hit in the backlines by kommando squads airdropped in.
The battle now begins once more as the imperium pushes into the squalor of the jungle.

The sons of vulkan carry the fight as the ork warlord shows himself and begins cutting mankind to shreds before being countered by the fury of nocturne as tu'shan battles gazhgull in the apex of the fight as honour guard fights honour guard and the chapter burns a path through the orks to allow the chapter master the time he needs.
the aeronautica comes forth once more diverting ork attack runs and restarting the pitched battle for the air with dakka jets falling as ork air superiority is contested.
In the charnelhouse you spot the fight between tu shan and the foul ork and you make a choice.
The battle must be won as you and your templar brothers cut a path to the salamanders as you drive back the xenos at the height of the duel.
But even with reinforcements the great beast gets the upper claw as he chants his fetid yell.
"YER TRIED SPACE MARINE BUT YOU GREENIES AINT DAT GUD IN A SCRAP"
A lesser man would hesitate to interfere.
You are no lesser man.
You are a son of dorn.
And you will free this planet.
You fire your cannon straight through the melee using pinpoint accuracy to barely avoid fighting brothers and melt the left arm of the greenskin allowing tu shan to stand back up as the greenskin reels from your blow.

Tushan stands and shanks the beast through with the wrath of vulkan,

The beast shouts as it stands and uses its right arm to bat tu shan to the side.

Are the shouts from the leader of the salamanders but they are in vain a new rush of stormboyz and nobz draw your attention as the warboss skulkz off promising vengeance.
The orks are demoralised and near retreat when a final blow finishes them as deathstorm drop pods rain from the sky and xenos bodies fall from orbital might.
The orks are in full shatter and retreat.
Victory is here but it has taken a heavy toll.

the blood angels also strike true as death company marines charge forth and chainblades whirr as dante leads the angelic host forward as the xenos fall before the might of the imperium and they rout before the might of the angels.
the victories are not without cost as for every rout the orks stream into the uncleared areas on the hive causing difficulties for the sons of Sigismund and the blood of nocturne as their pace is slowed and plate is splintered before ork choppas as the fight turns into a slow urban fight hab by hab as this bastion of mankind is cleansed.
But the emperors work has been done and hive death mire has been purged.
As mechanicum teams stream into the hive to restore it to imperial standards you stand vigilant outside with your brothers and watch the imperial restoration as the bodies of greenskins stretch from wall to wall of the battlefield.

As the tide stalls you fire your cannon with wild abandon at the thousand sons turning the tide immensely as your pinpoint shots halt summoning rituals preventing the psykers of sortarius from bringing their daemonic allies to the field as amadiel and ferron use their bolter and launcher to disrupt the chaotic push as heavy weapons teams are smashed by grenades and spotters are erased by precision bolt fire.

to clarify the above centurions are usually used for heavy siege and assault operations.
you are a strike force of crusading patrol templars.
the main strike and siege wargear is with the bulk of the templars with the high marshal as only with a full deployment might siege weaponry be needed.
For siege you are fighting with the guard and mechanicus and on the forge world its more urban corridors rather than bastions.
and on this particular battlefield a TS librarian would look at a centurion of the BT without any librarian cover of our own like a big juicy fry the bastard with lightning target.

The black templars surge forward in the armoured charge as the cultists are forced into a broken retreat as emplacements are abandoned and lascannon fire ignites the remaining ammo stores causing further routs as the cultists are deprived of the weaponry to piece the sanctified ceramite of the templars.
As the cultists retreat they send hordes of misshapen monstrosities and chaos spawns to face you and your brothers but the sons of dorn have faced worse than this in the name of the emperor.Your shots fire with the fury of the machine as flesh is burnt and warp touched monsters fall to the blood soaked ground wailing in agony from mutated throats as predators tear past and keep on the tail of the cultists.
As the tide turns and the cultists retreat to their bastions the thousand sons wage a fighting retreat as daemonic rituals spawn horrors beyond mortal comprehension as chainblades whirr death into these immaterial horrors.
The sorcerer line suddenly send their rubricae forth in a wrathful charge as they complete profane magicks and escape from the battlefield as their automata charges forth.
The last charge of the Rubricae brings shock to the sons of dorn as a defence is prepared and bolters loaded for a gruelling fight.
The rubricae line is suddenly lit up from above as vulture gunships make daring attack runs decimating armour as the templars spring into action and fire for weaknesses destroying the rubric line.
Valkyries land soon after as the warp tainted sky is shrouded by the descent of thousands of Valkyries as the beachhead of the templars is prepared as thunderhawks land with vital resupply as techmarines enter the field.
The beachhead is established and the guard is landing.the emperors work has been done on this field.
