You are Natalya, a very successful Politsiya and an accomplished practitioner of Drunken Boxing. Your favorite pastime is hurting people, breaking bones, causing black eyes, destroying others in front of their peers and loved ones and the occasional murder, if the situation allows it.

You are currently near the weapons locker of your station, returning a shotgun to its proper spot, locking the shells in a separate locker, and thinking about the pleasant vacation you have planned, including competing in the Erupting Dragon tournament. The whole world will love and fear your name in a matter of months.

You’re jostled our of your daydream when you feel a hand on your shoulder and a proud voice announcing “Let’s hear it for Lieutenant Natalya! A second murder bust this week alone! Can we get some applause for our leading lady?”

The other officers cheer for you, some clapping with their hands while their eyes stare jealously. It’s true that you’ve made those busts, and that those killers were certainly guilty, but the beatings you inflicted on them made the other officers flinch. Made them fear you, even as they sung your praises and laughed with you.

It’s delicious.

“You want to go out drinking tonight with us again?” Your Senior Lieutenant asks.

“No thanks, big day tomorrow.” You say, nonchalantly.

“Oh that’s right! The preliminaries! We’ll all be cheering you on over here if you make it, Officer.”

Twenty minutes later, you’re in warm jogging clothes, water bottle at your side, music in your earbuds. Your style of fighting might look casual, even sloppy, but it requires just as much conditioning as any other martial art.

The streets of your hometown are chilly today, as usual, and there aren’t many people interested in running, or exercise in general. It’s dark out, despite it barely being evening, and there’s a light snow.

You’re trying to keep up your stamina. The number one reason you’ve seen people lose fights is getting tired. That’s not going to happen to you. On the other hand, you have muscle mass that took years to build up, and too much cardio could throw off your hard earned work.

It’s a balancing act. Ten miles should be just right, and then you can follow it up with plenty of protein and carbs.

All the same, you do have a couple options on your last night before the fights start.

>Go out of your way to find someone to beat the crap out of
>Turn in early for bed, make sure you’re ready to break bones bright and early
>Spend a little quality time with your punching bag

Looks like well over five to me.

The brisk air is just starting to give you a chill when you reach your home, having worked up a sweat but still far from drained. Heading inside, you look around at your small apartment. It has only the things you need to improve yourself and your art.

There's a cot, a bench for lifting weights, and a swinging punching bag near your mounted TV. The pantry is full of healthy food, as well as a well stocked liquor cabinet. The apartment is threadbare and the furniture is outdated, but you've never cared.

It's time to go over some basics, get out of our head, and beat the tar out of something that can't fight back.

You wrap your hands and get into stance.

(I'm going to make a full set of combat options with their AP costs and roll modifiers on them that we can use for each combat from here on. This may take me a little while.)
>>
>>3213802

I'm making good progress on it, but I've hit a snag as I realized I missed something important in the rules. Don't know how I overlooked this one, my bad guys. It does make the dice system make a lot more sense, though.

We have to distribute 25 points among the following techniques.

Acrobatics, Block, Evade, Focus,
Grapple, Kick, and Punch.
>>
One more thing. I'm going to explain the basics of Thrash combat. Every person rolls initiative, which determines the order that each person acts in a ROUND. Each person gets 1 TURN in that round. Each TURN, every fighter gets 3 AP. Any AP not spent in a round carries over until that fighter's next turn, up to a maximum of 6 in reserve.

In practice, it looks like this:

John and David are fighting over who gets to ride the crocodile on the carousel ride at a children's theme park. John gets higher on initiative and goes first.

John's turn begins and each fighter gets 3 AP. John spends his 3 AP on a jumping punch. He rolls, and David rolls to dodge. David rolls higher, and takes no damage.

Now it's David's turn. Each fighter again gets 3 AP, meaning David has 6 and John has 3. David decides to make three punch attacks, which John tries to block. He successfully blocks two of them, but gets decked in the face on the third, taking 7 damage, spilling blood on the carousel ride and causing children nearby to start screaming.

Calling the vote here.

You're a light sleeper, but you find it easy to fall asleep tonight, tucked under the warm, ugly blankets of your cot. Your head lies on your pillow, and you dream of wars in distant lands.

The morning brings a cab, a short ride to the nearby arena. It's done in a modern, MMA style octagon with chain link sides, and plenty of seating. The seats are packed full of fans, talking animatedly and holding up signs for their beloved hometown heroes.

You're dressed in a gi from your grumpy old sensei, a dark gray with frayed edges. You have on light shoes. No tricks or weapons on you. You don't need them. It's all the more satisfying when claims of cheating find you innocent every time. The long sleeves are good for slipping teeth and other trophies away from the ring.

You head up to talk with the manager, and he tells you your opponent will be one Anatoly Mikhailov. You know of him, a heavy young man with power and a dangerous grapple, but slow in body and mind.

You can't help the edges of your lips from curling into a sweet smile. He sounds like he'll be fun to break.

It's not about who will give the most challenge, or who will be easiest to destroy. It's all about how much fun it is.

You still have a few minutes before the match.

Calling the vote here.

It'll be good to get some info on the people, after all, the show is for them, isn't it?

You head in to one of the upper seating areas, behind the crowd where you're able to examine them. Even if they did see you, they wouldn't know you're a fighter.

You watch their reactions to the current fight. It looks like the back-and-forth punching is boring them. Out of nowhere, one fighter lands a really solid kick, which causes some excitement in the crowd. He follows it up with a grapple, tossing his opponent over his back, which gets a loud series of cheers.

The crowd is made up of a surprising mixture of men and women, though there are very few children here today, if any. You certainly don't spot any. The people are pale skinned like yourself, almost all of them are out of shape, and a good many are wearing "Erupting Dragon Tournament" merch.

Naturally, there is also a lot of booze going around. There is beer, vodka, wine for those that think themselves high class.

Your police training is coming in handy with reading the situation. You can't keep a toothy grin off your face. It's a world of opportunity down there in the ring.

Anatoly had better be ready.
>>
>>3215061
I'll be at work again today, but I'll be working on this stuff where I can, during my breaks, etc. By all means feel free to discuss the game, things you'd like to see happen, etc.

>ends with a neck bite
Is it lethal?
>>
>>3215853
Only if we want it to be.
>>
Rolled 5, 1 = 6 (2d6)

The time has come. You make your way to the ring, popping your neck and cracking your knuckles. You're ready.

The ring itself has a floor with a little give. Being dropped on it would be more forgiving than bare concrete, but it'd still rattle him. The chain-link walls are also pliable, harder to hurt someone against than brick walls. All the same, the ring locks someone in here with you. That should be all you need.

The referee explains the rules.

"All right, the fight is no holds barred, continuing until a fighter loses consciousness or yields. Choking is not permitted. If a referee believes someone's life is at risk, they'll blow a whistle, and there will be 30 seconds of break time. If the fighter is indeed unable to continue, their opponent will be announced the victor. Otherwise, the match continues."

He doesn't add that male fighters are permitted athletic cups, but they are. You read it in the official rules.

Anatoly is bald, wide, and tall. His outfit consists of a pair of jeans with suspenders, no shirt, and no shoes. He's got more than a few pounds of fat on him, and it shows in rolls on his sides. His arms are thick as well. He's got short blond hair and a blocky face.

You smile sweetly. You don't go into stance yet, better to keep him in the dark and a stance could hint at your true fighting style.

Rolls will determine who is first, first roll is us, second is opponent. Ours receives a plus 3, his gets a plus 1.

(I'm open to having you guys roll if we can come up with a good system for that.)

As Anatoly's arm extends in front of your nose, you grab it and pull him forward, then let loose a ki-powered punch directly to his ribs, which stuns him. He tries desperately to suck air back into his forcefully-evacuated lungs, but he is powerless to do so.

You savor the moment for only a split second before you snap a high kick into his chin. He stumbles back a foot or two and you likewise leap backwards and now enter a more drunken stance, swaying a bit. You grin at him.

"Feeling okay, big guy? You look like you're a little hurt." You slur with a lopsided grin. "Come on, I'm sorry. Maybe we can shtill be friends?"

He looks a bit lost but if there's one thing his mind can comprehend, it's dumb anger. He slams a fist against his chest, roars, and goes in for a punch and a throw!
+9 for both of them.

You smile at Anatoly. It's a dazed smile, the kind that stoners have when they eye a chicken nugget. He looks at you like you're fresh meat, and he's the butcher.

He's got it backwards.

You stumble forwards unexpectedly, only to snap your fist upward, smashing into his jaw. This time, you hear a satisfying crack. You grab onto a suspender to steady yourself before planting two kicks in rapid succession: one to his left side, bruising his ribs, and one that hooks his leg, pulling him down on one knee.

The next kick inflicts the most pain, crashing your knee into his jaw, turning a hairline fracture into a shattered mess of bone, teeth, and blood. Anatoly drops to the ground, clutching his face in horror and agony.

He lays down on the ground for a minute and you watch, putting on your best smug grin. He cannot speak through his mess of a mouth, but he taps on the mat, and the referee announces a yield.

Final stats:
9 hp lost, 40 damage inflicted, 12 AP used, 6 super left over, and one opponent left in need of reconstructive jaw surgery.

The thrill of it gives you a shiver.

It’s two hours after your fight. There’s a break room for fighters with water bottles and food. The food is on par with cheap hotel breakfasts, and only the amateurs are eating from it. You haven’t touched any of it yet.

The room is lauded out like a large square, with TV screens along a few of the walls, showing the fights. There’s a large square cushioned bench in the center of the room, upon which you’re seated.

These fights were qualifiers, and judges are going over the footage to decide on the ten best. Choice is based on performance, technique, and entertainment value.

You’re sipping at a water bottle watching the last few fights. One fighter in particular catches your eye. He's strong and tall, looking top heavy like he skipped leg day, but with sharp eyes and dark hair.

In his fight, he watches his opponent, locking his eyes with theirs. He stares at them, and you see his lips moving rapidly, like he's mumbling something under his breath. His opponent swings and kicks, but each move is met with a perfectly timed block, while his eyes simply don't stop their robotic glare.

Finally, after two minutes of playing defensively, he moves. He's like a snake striking. You lose track of his fists as they hammer the opponent in the stomach and face. Each time his opponent moves his hands up to block one or the other, the man is already smashing into the opposite spot, like he somehow knows exactly what will happen before it happens.

After the barrage ends, the man yields, being in immense pain. The referee announces the winner's name. "Vadim Sokolov."

As you're watching, a woman in her forties wearing a pink coat, a rose in her short dark hair, and holding a microphone sits down next to you.

"Pardon me, do you speak English?" She asks in English.

"Who wants to know?" You ask with a polite smile.

"I'm Emma Richards from USN, covering the preliminaries for the EDT."

United States News and Erupting Dragon Tournament.

"Do you have a moment to talk with me about the tournament? I saw your fight."

How do you want to play this?

>Answer carefully, keeping up appearances and playing your cards close to your chest.
>Answer proudly, marketing yourself as a heel for the viewing public.
>Answer nonchalantly, showing off your confidence.

Calling the vote here.

Emma Richards begins by asking your name, which you give to her.

“Natalya, why have you entered the Erupting Dragon Tournament? Are you after the five million dollar prize?”

You laugh. “No, I’m not in it for money. I simply entered because I felt like I had real chance of winning. The trophy would bring my bedroom decor together, too.”

She gives a chuckle, one borne from courtesy. “Wow! You sound so sure. Where does that confidence come from?”

“I’ve been a fighter my whole life. Training, conditioning, sparring, it all comes as naturally to me as reporting does for you.” A little flattery couldn’t hurt.

“But in this tournament, you’ll be facing some of the strongest fighters in the world. Aren’t you nervous?”

“Absolutely not.” You respond lightly with a small smile. “Here in Russia we have a saying. A sledgehammer breaks glass, but forges steel. You’ve seen my fight, Emma Richards. Am I glass, or steel?”

She laughs. There’s a hint of nervousness, like she wasn’t expecting to be challenged like that. “Natalya, you seem like steel to me.” She turns to the camera. “ I have one last question for Natalya: is there any fighter in particular you’re excited or worried about?”

>I’m excited about facing Andre Castillio, the capoeira fighter from Brazil.
>I’m interested in fighting Candy Pop, the young woman from Britain
>Vadim is going to be an interesting challenge
>The previous champion, Kimberley Turner, is going to be a joy to fight.
>No fighter in particular is all that interesting. I’m here for me.

Also, Castillo in portuguese would be spelled Castilho. There's no double L in portuguese

I did not know this and now I know this.
Castilho it is.

“I’m not worried about the other fighters.” You say, which is mostly true. You are excited to hurt them, but you couldn’t care less about them as people.

“Well I think you’ll certainly be one to watch for all our viewers at home, Natalya.” She says. She turns to the camera. “This is Emma Richards for USN, looking forward to more from this year’s Erupting Dragon Tournament.”

She packs up her things and thanks you, which you return casually. The TV screens are lit up now, showing the ten fighters who will be moving on to the next round. The judges have ranked the ten best as follows:

Sokolov Vadim
Stegnog Steponovich
Salagin Milorad
Sokolov Natalya
Sayanova Vasilia
Pudin Petrovich
Rusanov Kesha
Rychenkov Denise
Yakubovitch Larya
Korneva Yuri

Hm. Fourth place. That’s a bit disappointing, especially seeing Vadim perform so well.

He used to be far weaker than you.

The plane to pick you up departs early in the morning, but you’re already packed. Hong Kong had better be ready for you.

I’m not. I’m working on chapter 3, but in the meantime, is there anyone who knows how to archive these? I’ll need to look over them again or else I’ll forget details.

Hm. I'm trying it, but it's saying that the first thread is invalid.
>>
>>3232019
In the meantime, I've saved a copy of the first webpage, so I can do the same for this one. That should let me use them for notes.
>>
>>3232040
Tell me what tags and description you would use and I'll archive it for you.
>>
How in the fuck did I miss this? Especially since it scratches all of the itches I've had in a quest at once...

Anyway, I'm down for the next thread OP.

You were probably too late, suptg gives trouble for threads on the verge of falling off the board.
In case you can't make it work there's https://archived.moe/qst/thread/3210419/#3210419
>>
>>3232040
You can't archive it because someone had already archived it last month lol
