You are 999, a blobby mass of joy and happiness for all! And you are currently-OH 343 WHY. WHY IS THERE SO MUCH FLESH.

Previously on 999 Quest:

You had only just arrived to the pack meeting grounds being lead by RWB and FCS, to be interrogated by the pack elders regarding your reasons for being within their territory. Which didn't last all that long before you were brought before an immensely powerful anomaly, which gave you a rundown on the history and origina of the werewolves and their relationship to mankind. This is precisely where shit went utterly to hell.

Currently, you have taken to the skies, hovering before an absolutely titanic aberration composed out of twisted flesh and bone that can only be referred to as Karcist Varis, steadily trying to pull more of itself into the world via a gaping wound in reality, hideous screams of agony echoing throughout the air with each squelching movement of flesh.

You also casually note the movement of several stray tentacles as they angle themselves toward you, likely preparing to strike.

>attempt to cut down the tentacles with our Four Sword.
You draw your mystical blade in the air, using multiple pseudopods in order to manipulate it properly, as you hoist it upwards to cause its shining aura to flow through you. And right on time too, as the tentacles fly forward and attempt to skewer you upon their length.

Flying around them, you flash the blade through the air, slicing through multiple tendrils which begin to gush thick syrupy fluid from the open ends of them, before lighting up in flames as purifying power courses through them, charring them to blackened crisps.

Varis raises a great limb, twisted and bent so as to look revoltingly mangled, and all around you spheres of deep red flesh 'pop' into existence, mouths blistering across their surfaces as they begin to spontaneously expand. Likely in an attempt to crush you between their mass.

>Use our Snow-Storm ability to freeze all that shit!
Channeling energy through your Dream Trinket, you feel for the storm of power within yourself. And you set it loose all around you.

The flesh aberrations around you screech as the storm of ice freezes them right in place, completely halting their advance. And before too long, they crack and break apart, drifting into flakes of snow on the wind.

>Realization attained for Snow-Storm (F++++). You feel as though forcing out waves of frigid icey energy is starting to get pretty easy overall

Varis seems to stare at you (you can't really tell), partially having halted in its ascent from the rift.

"Hm, how intriguing. But no matter. I believe I shall simply crush you instead."

And with those words, the nightmarish titan of flesh and screaming souls attempts to do jsut that, bringing a massive dripping limb before you to try and encase you within itself.

"I'd advise you to not resist. It can go much faster that way."

>and lets attempt to dodge the limb.
You move to dart away from the bulk of Varis' crushing limb, shooting up into the air. But as you do so, branching thorns of wet meat squelch free from the oncoming mass and reach up into the skies, several of them skewering through your wings and sending you toppling downwards. In seconds, you watch as one of the Karcist's mouths yawn open, ready to swallow you whole.

At least up until a flash of purple light and a large furred body rockets into the titanic entity at immense speeds and sends it reeling away from your falling form. You only feel light like a feather as violet bands of energy hold you in the air and rest you gently on the (mostly ashen) ground.

"I....finished....it...." You hear a familiar voice say, as you turn to see Purple resting against a tree trunk, and a blazing pattern of symbols lying on the ground before him, his breathing sounding quite heavy all in all. "Though...I probably...couldn't have gotten it done...without them..."

He points to the forms of several wolves who have apparently come back around to help fight against the Karcist, who proceed to leap up to bite and tear at any and all exposed areas of its form. Well, ain't that kind of them.

>While he's distracted by the werewolves, unleash our most powerful ability on him, PURIFYING EXPLOSION!
As you watch Varis twist and tear it's body around to dislodge and try to crush the werewolves clinging onto it, you decide to make your move. With a sudden push of force, you shoot out from the ground, barreling towards the behemoth of flesh, allowing light to flow through your frame freely.

Varis seems to notice you coming, but by then, it's too late. Far too late even.

Your body slams into the bulk of Varis, coated in white light, before the purifying flames begin to expand out from you, coating the upper and lower portions of Varis, as the wolves disengage. A shrieking cry pierces the skies, and seconds later, you find yourself thrown back from the raw energies being released.

Looking up again, you see that Varis' body has burnt away or outright *melted* in some places, screamingmflesh oozing right off of it. But its not done yet, as you watch the bits of mostly undamaged flesh on the ground pull themselves upwards and coalesce into new forms.

"We are of Ion, He who took Black Flame from the mouth of Važjum. His blood is our blood. His flesh our flesh." The newly-formed things speak as one, as if they're no more than extensions of a larger whole. And with newly-formed limbs, they begin to bear down upon you.

"We are of Ion. And there shall be nothing left before us that is not."

"Blorble!" You call out to those of your friends and now-allies, telling them to get clear, before you leap up, and let loose a cry from above, a deafening cacophony of noise that skewers the creatures below you within moments.

>Voice Of Pain (E+)

Though you can see that not all of them are destroyed, you still caught a good number. Up until the destroyed ones start regenerating right before your eyes.

"We cannot die. Upon dark oceans we sail, and a thousand glimmering knives roar in the darkness Ours is eternal, Ion is eternal. We have become as-"

The ranting voice suddenly gets cut off as blasts of magic and blasts of lightning fall down upon both the creatures and Varis itself.

"[Hey Orange. Thought you could use some help.]" Blue calls out, perched upon a nearby tree-branch, alongside Red. You can almost feel the smug from here.

>Tell purple, blue and red to channel purifying energy through the barrier and have it grow smaller and crush Varis
"Blorble blorble-borb [Blue, with me. Red, assist Purple in manipulating his barrier.]" With that said, you turn back to the main body of Varis, which has begun to advance towards you., its bulk wriggling forth of the wound in space connecting it to wherever its originating from.

"And Ion held six fingers aloft and upon their spears did the soldiers impale themselves." Varis screams and whispers from a thousand mouths, a thousand writhing tongues, as tendrils of flesh shoot from its frame towards you, lashing away at the ground.

'For you!' they cried before the blood drowned their tongues. And Ion said, 'Now do you see?'" New masses of flesh rise up from the ground, and advance towards you, with some being dragged into the bulk of Varis as it advances towards you. Even as you watch purple runes and purifying white light flare across its body, Varis continues to encroach, continues to speak.

"And Nadox wept, as more did skewer themselves in Ion's name, for he had seen and now knew the truth of his words." A hand digs into the ground, and a tide of flesh rises as it does, before flowing towards you, whipping blades of bone flying madly at your form.

Batting and slashing away at them with your own blades, you and Blue leap into actions, deftly weaving through the hordes of fleshy horror, approaching Varis itself. Both of your swords flash with purifying power as you leap up into the air to target the head of the beast.

"Do you see?" Varis whispers, in the most quiet voice of all. And the front of its 'head' blossoms open like a twisted lotus, and that great churning maw begins to bear down on you just as you descend upon the head, arms of flayed flesh eagerly reaching up towards you.

You and Blue dodge away from the reaching arms, slicing away at them when they draw too close. And as the Great jaws of the aberration push forward, both of you push forwards, thrusting your blades forward, and let purifying light run up the length of them.

"[HAAAAAAAAAAAH!]"

The light shines forth, and expands, and expands. Before too long, the wave of shining light engulfs Varis and yourselves, blinding you to what comes next for a time.

...Which ends up being the cold hard feeling of the ground beneath you. Ow. Looking around, you can see that Blue is sharing in that same pain.

"[Orange, you ok?]" He asks, looking at you worriedly. Guess he really does care after all. Nodding some, you both turn towards where Varis remains, and you can clearly see the damage your last attack had on it. Several portions of the behemoth look flat-out melted, or burnt away, and white flames still dance across its body. Vaguely, you can hear a hateful ringing in your head, as if something is screaming in rage from someplace else.

"You are truly a vexing problem, Scarlet children. Far moreso than I had been expecting. But no more. I shall do away with you now, and claim what I have come for."

With those words, the twisted beast rockets from its prone position, screaming cries of rage and suffering and anguish from a hundred different mouths as it falls upon you and Blue.

>attempt to dodge the attack and then quickly counter-attack when it lands.
You and Blue both veer away from the oncoming titan of flesh, but not quite fast enough. With warning, a bladed limb shoots out and snags Blue, cutting through him and sending him careening away into the cover of the trees. You then watch as Varis swats at you with what seems like a knotted mess of spiked bone, which you raise your sword to intercept in the nick of time.

You *feel* the force behind the blow as it connects and sends you flying back, smashing right through at least two trees and slams you into a third. In the distance, you can see Varis steadily approaching, glaring at you from hundreds of burning eyes. Though you notice that the spiked club it hit you with, though now retracting back into the shifting main mass, is covered in purifying flames that burn away at it from where it had struck your sword.

"So I suppose that this is the last of your resistance, hm?" Varis questions as it slowly encroaches upon you, lightly chuckling to itself. "Perhaps you might be partial to som4 last words before your destruction? Something for us to remember you by?"

It's closer now, huge slamming limbs falling upon the ground as it comes closer and closer to where you lie upon the ground. Out of the corner of your eye, you can see three rather familiar figures of certain colours slowly coming up behind the gloating Varis. You feel a pressure upon your form as Varis leans its "head" down toward you, the mass flowering upon as it did once before, unnatural limbs reaching out for your body.

>Quadruple Voice of Pain with our clones
As Varis draws its gaping maw closer towards you, hands of the desperate and damned moving out from it to grasp at the air for you, unnatural moans and squelches echoing out as they do, you whisper something. Something that could only barely be heard over the sounds of roy and decay, but is heard all the same.

"Hmm? What was that? Speak up, if you would be so kind."

Varis draws closer to you, but not close enough. You whisper again, slightly louder this time.

"...bl...or..le..."

"Oh, come now. Surely you can do better than that? After all, these are your last moments before you become part of something greater than yourself. Push a little harder."

It's so close now. So close that you can almost feel those hands brushing over your frame, the smell of rotting meat and bone wafting right into your face. It's now or never.

"blor...blor..."

"Yes. Just a little more now-"

"Blorble [Now.]"

"What-" Varis can hardly get the words out before you shout, and your gathered counterparts do the same, having steadily advanced as you lured Varis in. All of your voices coming together as one, and echoing with a power rising from deep within.

Varis *screams*, a soul-rending howl of a hundred-thousand voices overlapping each other. A cry of anguish beyond anything else you've heard so far, as its body is wracked with spasms, mounds of screaming flesh falling off of it continuously. The very power of the song seemingly destabilizing the Karcist's material framework and sending it reeling to the ground.

>A new Skill has attained realization within you. Chorus of Pain (F) has made itself known. Through the combined power of yourself and your three counterparts, even the mightiest of titans can be felled through the force of your voice. Just don't do it next to your allies.

>Voice Of Pain has attained further realization (E--). You have a somewhat better degree of manipulation over how much energy you can channel through your voice. Perhaps you should take on singing later?

Watching as the Karcist topples to the ground, you feel your sword next to you, pulsating with an almost heavenly glow. And behind Varis, you can see your counterparts are encountering the same, raising their blades up to inspect the white light coursing them.

You think it's about time to finish this.

>Dive in, a hacking and a slashing. Go for the eyes and anything that seems vital. And everything else.
You move quickly, rushing towards the stunned form of Varis and slicing your blade through the folds of meat and bone that compose its form. You pull your blade upwards away form a large mouth and tongue in the nick of time, and instead angle yourself to dig the blade right into a large bulbous eye, causing the disgusting mass to burst and expose its fetid contents to the open air.

Varis howls in rage and pain, as you begin cutting through it, starting from its eyes and other vulnerable points and working your way down. And before long, you see your three companions joining in to start cutting away themselves, following your lead in targeting the beast's most exposed areas. Purifying light flows through your blades and into each and every leaking wound and crack of the Karcist's form, exploding out of its form in great bursts of flame and crackling energy, leaving gaping sizzling holes across Varis that run along the entirety of its frame.

Before long, you've all left the twisted mass of even more of a ruined wreck, its body seemingly barely capable of keeping itself together at this point. You can only watch as it feebly tries to push itself upwards, but falls shuddering back onto the ground.

"I-Impossible..." It hisses through a ruined mouth, the word almost difficult to make out from the gurgling sound of blood pouring out of its maw. "I cannot...die...WE...cannot die.."

You start making your steps forward. Time to put an end to this.

"No...this...canno...t...be. This...will not...stand.."

You grip your blade tighter, its light shining furiously as you approach to deal the final blow, raising it somewhat as you draw nearer to the doomed Karcist.

"No.....NO!"

It happens faster than you can react. Varis shoots upwards, its broken frame leaking blood, and pus, and bile, the sudden movement enough to stagger you some before a limb shoots out and sends you toppling back, knocking your blade from your grip and sending it hurtling across the ground.

"[ORANGE!!]" You hear the others shout, as Varis looms over you, several tendrils shooting upwards from its back and angled downwards towards you, pulsating with a twisted grey-black energy that you can't identify. You try to move and you feel your form held down by multiple root-like structures of pale bone.

"This game ends now. You've long grown from being an amusement into nothing more than a blistering irritant, child. I had intended to claim you along with my target, but I'd much rather have you suffer and cease to be entirely at this point. Now then..."

"Die."

The tendrils shoot downwards, the grayish hellstuff enveloping them completely, as they become like knives surrounded by yet more knives. A tide of blades to pierce your core and extinguish you completely. You can only watch as the end speeds towards you, helpless to do anything more. And then-

A streak of blue, the rushing cry of the knives as they descend, and then nothing. Nothing. No pain, no eternsl agony, no piercing pain as they knives tear into your core and burn you away. Just nothing. You're alive, and it almost makes you breathe a sigh of relief. The knives didn't fall.

Not on you at least.

You force your eyes open and look at the figure hanging over you, limbs outstretched to shield you, as the tendrils of writhing darkness crawl within his form, their vile essence steadily seeping into him.

"Blorble.....?"

"[H-Heh. Guess I-I really fucked up t-this time, e-eh, Orange.]" Blue chuckles mirthlessly, before hacking violently, body shuddering as the blades of vileness twist within him. Above his shuddering figure, you can see Varis tilt the revolting thing it attributes the title of a head to, in some mockery of confusion.

"How odd. It seems the strange bonds between you extend far beyond you merely being masses of shared essence. What an almost-disgusting sentimentality you have. I'd love to indulge it further, but as I said; the game is over."

Another twist of the knives as they dig ever deeper into Blue's flesh and cloudy dark vapors tear their way into him. He almost seems to try and howl in pain this time, but instead he descends into more racking and fevered coughing.

You feel the bone holding you in place loosen ever so slightly, with Varis seemingly so focused on torturing Blue that it does not pay much attention to keeping you restrained, and next to you, you can detect the burning and purifying presence of your sword, almost having reached a crescendo in terms of how bright its burning.

You mirror that burning feeling from the blade. You mirror it with your own hate for the thing calmly gloating above you, as it slowly kills your friend-No, what may as well be your own *brother* right in front of you. It's a rather rare feeling for you, this hate. It's something you can barely hold in.

The blade reaches out to you then. Its shining form steadily burning closer within your mind. You can almost reach back...

>Reach back. Blue is a part of you. As long as you remain, he is not truly gone.
You reach out into the blazing light of the blade, and you grip it. And it responds in turn.

You feel wave after wave of purifying light enter your frame, and in a sudden burst of power, you feel the true power of the blade rise to the surface.

>In the face of the threat, the Four Sword has allowed you to be filled with the Power of Evil's Bane for a time! Your bond with the blade has grown much stronger (D++)! Go forth, and shine light into the future!

Within seconds you shoot from your immobilized state on the ground, and burn your way through the tendrils holding Blue aloft, reaching out with a few pseudopods to rest him gently on the ground. In your grip you hold your blade, light radiating from it in blinding fashion as you rush towards Varis, who barely has time to shriek in surprise before you raise the blade high and bring it down, channeling all your rage, and pain, and desperation into that single strike.

The air stills, and the world seems to freeze in place, a calm before the storm. And then it all explodes outwards. A great wave of Light engulfing both you and the vile Karcist in its blazing power before your whole world turns to white.

And in that shining expanse, you see a brave group of four holding swords high, having fun and laughing and playing and training, and standing tall agianst the dark. All of this passes by you within that brillisnt white, right before your consciousness blinks out.

It's a peaceful image to black out with, all said.....

>try to wake up.
"[Orange? Orange? You awake?]"

A voice cuts through the haze clouding your mind as you slowly return to awareness. What happened? Is Varis gone? Is Blue oka-

"BLORBLE!" You shoot upwards, knocking over the people standing next to you in your haste, your head quickly darting around to look for Blue. Where is he? What happened to him? Is he still alive?

"999, my lad, please calm down." A most familiar voice comes up. You turn to see gentleman explorer Lord Blackwood moving to meet you, alongside Dr Spanko and the surprising faces of the wolves. Specifically RWB, FCS, and their own leader (you don't think you ever got his name), with the latter trudging up to you in wolf form.

"Alright, let me just say it now; you're fucking alright." FCS grins at you, his teeth pearly white and sharp. RWB clearly shares in said grin as well.

"Indeed" the head-wolf growls low and deep. "You risked yourselves to save our pack, we who doubted you and your power, from an enemy most vile. And for that, we must offer our most sincere apologies, great spirits."

"Yeah, and we're really sorry well...EVERYTHING." RWB scratches his head awkwardly and sighs. "Especially since it caused your friend to-"

Before he can finish that most somber note, a hacking and wheezing laughter fills the air. Your mind begins to be filled with a thin static of echoing screams, though far weaker than it was last time.

"Ha-haaa, ho...amu...sing...yo....u...thi..n..k....yo..vewon? Fo.....r....now......pe.....r...haps." The choking voice sneezes out, and you glare forward at the barely-twitching mass of mostly ashen meat and ooze, vastly reduced from its full size and steadily flaking away even as it tries to desperately wheeze out more words.

"[Varis.]" Red whispers, quite as always, but for the very first time, you detect an edge of steel to his voice.

>pull out our sword once again and FINISH HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You pull your sword out, its light already shining, to put an end to the vastly weakened Karcist, but before you can even move to finish the job, you watch as Red instead rushes forward and brings his blade down directly into the center of the Karcist, who offers one last horrible screech, before breaking away into the open air completely.

"Hahaha, most amusing." The whispery voice of the Karcist dances on the wind even without a material form. "Though I did not succeed in attaining what I had been hoping for, I gained something that might just be almost as worthwhile from you, Scarlet children."

"Take heed, you born of unholy blood! One of yours has been tainted and is doomed to be Taken into the dark, and you will all follow! I have been bested this eve, but by the will of His Undulating Vastness, I shall return without end! By blood of Ion, I shall return!"

The sickening voice and the static of a thousand pained screams that it brought with it fades out, and you're almost relieved, until you see a quickly approaching Purple, with something in tow, suspended via a glowing sphere of violet energy.

"[Blue!]" Red rushes over, followed by yourself, and all of the others.

As you come over to Purple, who rests the wounded form of Blue on the grass, you can clearly see the extent of the damage that he's sustained, his normally ocean-blue flesh turning into sickly twisting shades of black and grey that cause you to shudder involuntarily merely looking at them.

"[I tried to delay most of the damage with my magic, but whatever this is, it's far beyond my own power. And it's getting worse....]" Purple states, voice little above a whisper.

You look down at Blue, at his wounded and steadily tainted form, and you see an ocean of darkness. And in those twisting tides, you can hear the Darkness laughing all around you.

A truly hideous laughter. One that you must face to save your brother.
