In the far future, biotechnology advances by leaps and bounds, creating stunning achievements in medical, civil, and military applications. Illness becomes a thing of the past, and genetic modification is as commonplace as cosmetic surgery.

However, like all great advances, unchecked progress and experimentation has led to abuse and corruption. Ultra powerful megacorporations that monopolized the latest biotech have risen to be the great powers of the age, waging secret wars of sabotage, espionage, and deceit to get ahead of each other.

In order to fuel their rampant growth, megacorps develop lethal diseases and viruses, horrific bio-organic abominations, and ever more exotic genetic modifications to both sell to the highest bidder and unleash upon each other.

The rampant proliferation of bioweapons, and the need to contain them, has given rise to a new profession, the BIOWEAPON HUNTER.

You are LEWIS, a Hunter specializing in hunting down biological threats with your T-Doll companion HK!

Currently, you and HK were sitting in Hank's cruddy old sedan, which you suspect is even older than he is. The slightly shabby to well kept interior screamed an aesthetic from a different era and the engine sounded as if just staying idle was a constant struggle to survive.

It sort of makes you wonder what HK thought of all this, but her expression was stoic and emotionless as always, betraying no clues to her inscrutable thought processes.

"All right, so." Hank grunts as he guides his old sedan down the highway. "These are some of my old buds, and a lot of them are still active duty cops, so try to behave yourselves, all right?"

"But embarrassing you is half the fun, Hank!" You cackle. "Isn't that right, HK?"

"Based on your previous interactions, this appears to be the case." HK nods.

"Jeez, even the tin can's on your side, huh?" Hank groans. "Just don't be an ass, okay?"

"Got it." You nod.

"All right, we're pretty much there."

Hank's sedan rolls to a stop, and you finally take the chance to take in your surroundings. You were in a rather suburban area on the outskirts of Raccoon City proper. Here, the area was dominated by high rise office buildings and apartment blocks, the streets instead being lined with more modest single family homes with lawns and backyards and everything. All in all, it looked pretty quaint.

The house Hank stopped in front of didn't look all that different from the others, besides the fact that there were a number of other cars crowding the street in front of it. A sure sign of a gathering of some type.

"This is Officer Burton's place of residence, isn't it?" HK asks.

"How did you-?" Hank blinks.

"I cross referenced my GPS location with his legally listed residential address." HK explains simply.

"Oh, right. Why did I even bother asking." Hank sighs.

You suppress a laugh as the front door of the house swings open, revealing Barry, now wearing simple civilian clothes. You do note, though, his personal hand cannon was still visibly holstered on his belt.

"Hank! You made it!" He says happily. "Lewis, HK, welcome!"

"Heh, hope you got that pot nice and big for me to win it!" Hank laughs. "C'mon, kid, or we're gonna lock you out!"

You follow Hank inside the house, HK following close behind.

"So, Lewis, you want anything to drink?" Hank asks. "We got plenty of beers, unless you're in the mood for something stronger?"

"I'm fine with beers." You nod.

"Then grab whichever one you like and let's go!" Barry nods.

You glance to where he's pointing, and you could see one of those old fashioned ice coolers, filled to the brim with ice and glass bottles. Not favoring any particular brand, you pick one out at random and pry the cap off.

"How about you?" Barry asks HK. "Um, do you T-Dolls drink anything?"

"It's not strictly necessary to function normally, but I appreciate the hospitality." HK bows her head. "Alcohol is compatible with my biofuel conversion equipment, though."

"...I'll take that as a yes." Barry says as she holds out a fresh beer bottle to her."

"Thank you." HK nods as she accepts the bottle, but doesn't open it yet.

"Come on, Kid! You're holding us all up here!" Hank whines from the other room.

"yeah yeah, I'm coming..."

You follow Hank's voice into the next room and are immediately hit with the stench of smoke and alcohol. In front of you, you can see a large, round table. Hank is already seated there, and you could immediately see four other men at the table as well. They were all in civilian clothes, but you could immediately tell from their physical conditions and the way they carried themselves that they were all cops.

The holstered firearms casually hanging off the backs of their chairs, but still within easy reach, also tipped you off a bit.

"Hey, so you finally bring the new kid around!" One of the older mustached officers grins. "Afraid he was going to embarrass you?"

"He ain't a cop, simple as that." Hank grunts. "Only brought him here because Barry asked so nicely."

"Of course! He seems like a good kid!" Barry laughs as he pats you on the shoulder. "Lewis, this are some of my buddies from the department. Chris, Kevin, Marvin, and Enrico. I think you should know at least some of 'em, I figure."

"Well, I'm pretty sure I got arrested by a couple of you at some point." You joke rather weakly.

"Guilty as charged." One of the cops, Kevin, grins with amusement.

"Never saw you in person, but I've handled your paperwork." Marvin sighs. "You've definitely got a knack for raising all sorts of hell, that's for sure."

"You seem pretty friendly with the Cap- I mean- the Chief, too." Chris grunts, his arms crossed. You definitely recognize him as part of STARS.

"Why do think he's still running around a free man?" Enrico rolls his eyes. "But enough about him, what's with the T-Doll?"

"I was invited by Officer Burton." HK politely explains. "I am here mostly to observe. Please don't think anything of my presence."

"Ah, we can't have that." Marvin leans forward, his hand grasping a deck of cards. "We know your kind can shoot, but can you play?"

"I personally have not played any card-based games, though I do have the requisite software to run simulations." HK answers and then looks to you, unsure of what to do.

"Go ahead, HK, they asked for it." You shrug. "Their funeral."

"Affirmative." HK nods as she takes one of the empty seats. Marvin starts dealing out the cards, giving each players two.

"Okay, Kid, we normally play Texas hold 'em." Hank explains to you as he takes a pull from his bottle. "So it's simple enough. Basically there's five cards in the middle we call can see and you get two you keep to yourself. Person with the best combo wins."

"Yeah, yeah, I've seen it before." You assure him.

Meanwhile, HK basically empties the bottle in one shot and then glance at the cards in her hand, her eyes glowing as they do so.

"All right, since you're the new kid, we'll give you the honor of setting up the opening bet." Marvin says after he finishes dealing.

Despite the gesture looking to be politeness, you knew that the cops were using it as an opportunity to gain an insight on your character. That's how these things usually, went, right? At this beginning stage, with so much uncertainty, everything came down to your starting hand. You glance down at it.

You have to fight the urge to grin when you look at your hand. Pocket queens. That's a really strong starting hand, regardless of how the community cards are laid out.

You glance at the others. None of them betray any emotion as they look at their own cards. They were already seasoned veterans at this game.

HK... well... she was naturally wasn't very emotive in the first place so that was an unintentional benefit for her.

You could start off with a big bet. You had a high chance of winning this, and you could potentially scare off or bluff a few other players. But that would definitely give away the fact that you had a strong hand.

Or you could bet small and try to string them along for more.

You put in a relatively small bet throwing in a few chips at the center of the table.

There's no visible reaction from the others, but they all quickly and easily match your rather modest bet. Looks like nobody chickened out.

"So, Lewis." Enrico speaks up again as Marvin continues to slowly deal out the community cards. "Chris and Barry mentioned that they saw you at that big Umbrella party at the Spencer Mansion a few days back."

"That's right." You nod.

"Just a bit curious, but how did a local hunter get an invite to a party like that? There's a lot of celebrities and politicians who'd straight up murder just to be in the same zip code as that place." Enrico asks.

You glance at the others. Hank was focusing on his cards, and Marvin was focusing on dealing, so they weren't too invested in the conversation. Likewise, Kevin looked to be passing the time by downing another beer. Barry and Chris seemed to be paying keen attention, though.

"Well, I guess doing a favor for one of their big shots goes a long way." You shrug.

It wasn't a lie, but you weren't about to give too many details about what Wesker had you do in the snowy hell that was Antarctica. You still had a keen distrust of revealing key details to cops, after all.

"Isn't that always how it is." Marvin notes as he deals out the last community card. "All right, next bet."

You take a look at the five cards laid out in front of you. They looked to be completely random. No obvious chances for a straight, and the only face card was a jack. By your measure, the only way someone could beat your pocket queens was have a bigger pocket pair, or have two diamond cards to make a flush.

Again, nobody was giving away their moves, and you didn't know any of them well enough to discern their tells. Well, except for Hank, but he was full serious mode right now, not giving you an inch, either.

All the while, HK sits quietly observing the cards.

You give a confident grin as you push several stack of chips to the center of the table. Immediately there's a loud groan from Kevin as he sets his cards down, signifying him pulling out. Chris and Marvin quickly follow suit, though in a much more calm fashion.

However, it looks like the older veterans, Barry and Enrico, were still in it, either bluffing or having good hands of their own as they match your bet. Hank does as well. HK finally ends the round by putting forward her matching bet as well.

"All right, show 'em!" Barry says happily as he sets his cards down faceup.

Right away, you could see that you and Hank tied each other with pocket queens each. Marvin and Enrico had strong pairs going as well, but just weren't good enough to overcome yours.

Aaaaaaaaand, HK beats all of you with a flush as she calmly sets down a two and six of diamonds.

"I believe this makes me the winner." HK says.

"Beginner's luck." Enrico grumbles.

"On the contrary." HK shakes her head. "I simply tracked all of the possible outcomes based on the cards drawn and calculated the odds of encountering favorable win conditions."

"I mean, we all knew she was a robot, and they're kinda good at this stuff." Hank chides. "So it's kinda your fault."

"We can still do a second round.' Enrico grunts. "Marvin, set it up."

"Got it." Marvin chuckles at Enrico's frustration as he gathers up the cards and starts to reshuffle.

"Have to admit, though, HK here's far more personable than Star." Barry laughs. "Guess not all T-Dolls are built equal, huh?"

"I'd rather you not compare me to ST-AR." HK says coolly.

"Oh, looks like she does have a weak spot." Enrico leans forward in interest. "You know, the RCPD's planning on expanding its T-Doll contingent and are running trials of existing models. Sounds like a good opportunity to show off-"

"Enrico, quit trying to cause trouble." Marvin sigh.

"A T-Doll contingent?" You blink as Marvin starts dealing out the next hand to everyone. "What's that about."

"Just the department coming up with ways to replace cops." Enrico grunts. "Don't have to pay salaries and benefits to robots, you know?"

"They're supposed to be support units, not a complete replacement." Marvin chastises Enrico. "The Chief has made this clear multiple times."

"For now." Enrico grumbles. "And rumors are that Barry's spot is going to be filled by a T-Doll."

"Ha, you're just salty because you're getting on in years." Kevin laughs.

"Keep up that attitude, and you'll flunk out of your fourth try at the STARS exam." Enrico retorts. "If they even hold another one."

"Um..." You frown at the exchange.

"Ah, don't worry about Enrico, he gets a little grouchy when he has a bit of drink in him." Barry pats you on the shoulder. "Always going on about doom and gloom."

"But don't you already have ST-AR?" HK asks.

"Yeah, well, she's technically the Chief's personal unit, and there's only one of her. She only goes where the Chief goes. Having at least one T-Doll in STARS would be a big boon, in my opinion." Barry shrugs.

You have to fight from openly grimacing, as your hand was not particularly good. A six of hearts and nine of spades. Two cards that weren't even remotely related to each other. Just freaking great.

"Here is my bet." HK says simply as she pushes quite the large stack of chips to the center. What was barely a quarter of her total chips was a little over half what you had right now.

Considering you knew that HK wasn't particularly good at deception, you had the distinct feeling that she wouldn't be betting so strongly if she didn't have a strong hand. And she wasn't the type to be put off by bluffs, at least not in the traditional sense. Maybe it could throw off her internal calculations a bit...

You just shake your head and fold, dropping your cards onto the table. If you had even a slightly better hand, maybe you would've held out, but there was a difference between bluffing and being foolish.

"I fold." Sigh as you try to drown your disappointment with beer.

"Me too." Chris follows suit.

The others continue the round as Marvin sets down the community cards, but you're not really paying much attention to this this time around.

"So." Chris speaks up, eyeing you warily. "Seems like you've been spending a lot of time with the Chief lately."

"Well yeah, I'm her favorite interrogation suspect." You shrug.

"No, it's a bit more than that." Chris narrows his eyes. "Don't think that we haven't noticed you partnering up with her, or ending up in the same places she does a whole lot of times. What's your angle here?"

Leave it to a cop to be suspicious of everything.

"Consider it our donation to your retirement fund, old man." Kevin quips.

"Hey!" Barry scowls.

"Well, it makes a whole lotta sense now." Marvin nods. "And if you're a friend of the Chief, you're a friend of ours. Even if your record isn't exactly spotless!"

"I'll be the first to bust your ass if you step out of line." Chris adds.

"Gee, thanks GI Joe." You retort, which earns an amused snort from both Hank and Kevin.

You get the feeling that the mood has lightened up enough that maybe you could get these guys to talk about more... sensitive topics.

"So, how's Lucina doing as the new Chief?" You ask. "Everything you dreamed of? Everything just tumbling down?"

"Eh, as long as the paychecks keep coming, I honestly don't care who's the chief." Kevin shrugs.

"I appreciate what she's doing for the department." Marvin nods. "She's certainly far more trustworthy than Wesker ever was."

"Hey, Wesker's one of us, you know." Barry cautions. "It's thanks to him STARS even exists."

"WAS one of us." Enrico mutters. "I don't know what happened to him, but he's an Umbrella bootlicker now. Should've just joined the company outright rather than going through that farce as chief."

"Yeah, I'm glad I got out before all that crap." Hank adds. "And yeah Lucina seems like a real stand up girl. It's great that she's in charge now, even if she's broken more of my bones than I care to imagine!"

"It's tough, though." Chris sighs. "Looks like she hasn't been getting a lot of rest. Can't tell if it's from stress or if she's overworking herself."

"Knowing Lucy, it's definitely both." Barry notes.

Hey now, this was news to you. Lucina was exhausting herself over her work? She seemed fine whenever you met her...

"Straight. 5 to 9." HK says simply as she lays down her winning cards.

"Guess we shouldn't dare T-Dolls to play games of chance." Enrico sighs.

"Gee, ya just figured that out?" Kevin throws his arms up in the air.

"Did... did I do something wrong?" HK asks curiously.

"You won all that fair and square, HK. Don't let these guys pressure you into giving any of it back." You tell her.

"Understood." HK nods and keeps her won chips close.

"Shame on you guys for ganging up on the poor girl." Hank tuts. "Besides, we all still got plenty of chips to keep going!"

"I must remind you that we are still due to report in for work tomorrow." HK points out. "The Boss will be unhappy if we were to be late or not present."

"Aaaaah, we can call it a sick day." Hank responds as he finishes off his seventh... eight beer? "Don't tell me you're gonna take off, are you, Kid? We can clear the rest of these suckers out in no time!"

"Nah, I'd rather not risk pissing off the Boss." You shake your head as you stand up. "But thanks for inviting me. Would be great if we can do something like this again."

"Hah, sure thing!" Barry winks. "Maybe next time we can invite Jill and Rebecca over, too!"

"Barry." Chris grunts.

"Just kidding! I'm just kidding!" Barry quickly backtracks.

"I will be your escort to ensure you reach home safely." HK says as she takes your hand. "Come along now."

You have to try and ignore the snickers of Barry's cop buddies as HK leads you away, but a combination of fatigue and drunkenness prevents you from resisting.

Well, it wasn't so bad having HK dote on you, even if it was in her own odd way...

Lewis: Whoa, wait a minute, what are you doing Loki?
Loki: I need fuel. Quick. Go ahead, quick. Get in the car!
Lewis: No, no, no, no, no, no, Loki. I just got here, Lucina just got here, we're gonna take the new truck for a spin.
Loki: Well, bring her along. This concerns her too.
Lewis: Whoa, wait a minute, Loki. What are you talking about? What happens to us in the future? What, do we become assholes or something?

"Good morning, Lewis!" The Boss chimes happily as you report in for work the next day. "A lot of new requests today! I hope you're ready!"

"Yes, let's see how you try to get me killed this time." You sigh.

"A statistical impossibility as long as I am present." HK states simply.

"Hmph. Hank hasn't reported in... again." The Boss grumbles as she glances at Hank's empty desk. "Honestly, what's he up to, this time?"

Your biosensor detects the killing intent radiating from the Boss, and you're suddenly very glad that you decided to turn in early last night.

"You have any idea where that lazy bastard slunk off to?" The Boss turns her annoyed yet murderous gaze to you.

"Uh, I have no idea." You shrug innocently.

"Ugh." The Boss sighs. "Fine, I guess I'll go send G to look after him. YOU, on the other hand..."

The Boss then hands you a large, thick folder.

"Job offerings for today. Give it a look through and pick what interests you." The Boss says as she spins around and heads back to her office. "Let me know what you decide!"

You crack open the folder to see what's in store for you...

"Come on, HK, I was just kidding." You laugh as you pat the T-Doll on the head. "You really should learn how to take a joke."

"Affirmative." HK nods, still looking a bit uncertain.

"Anyways, let's head down to Artya's place." You continue. "See if she's perfected Vahlen's biomod."

HK merely nods and follows you down to Artya's disposal facility. There, you could see that she's wearing her gas mask and heavy biohazard gear again, doing... whatever she does down here. Hearing your approach, Artya turns and waves at your presence before raising her tablet.

HEY THERE, IDIOT. APOLOGIZED TO LUCINA YET?

"Yes, I have." You sigh.

GOOD. SO I GUESS YOU'RE HERE FOR THE BIOMOD?

"Right again." You nod.

ALL RIGHT, JUST SIT DOWN.

Artya points to an examination chair and you sit down, hoping that it didn't have any built in restraints or not. On the other end of the lab, you could see Artya carefully pulling out a syringe.

THIS IS SOME PRETTY SERIOUS STUFF. MILITARY GRADE.

"Well, that's what Vahlen promised." You nod.

SPINE PROJECTOR: Aerodynamic, armor piercing spines are stored in the forearm and fired out of the wrist at high speeds Maximum of three shots before the spines have to be regenerated.

HA HA.

Artya simply shakes her head as she inserts the biomod vial into one of her many machines and it spins around, changing color as it does so.

Artya then picks up the vial, inserts it into an injection gun, and presses it to your arm.

Before you have the chance to do anything else, color rushes back into the world and you blink, everything moving again as normal.

THERE WE GO.

Artya puts the injection gun away.

LOOKS LIKE THERE AREN'T ANY COMPLICATIONS. WANNA TRY IT OUT?

Hm, well, you do feel a bit lighter all of a sudden...

"Heh, if you ask so nicely." You grin as you stand up from the chair. You reach your arms out and easily pick up both Artya AND HK with each arm. Artya now seemed to weigh nothing more than a feather, while HK was certainly heavier but not impossible to lift.

There's a little yelp from Artya as she's caught of guard and she struggle a bit. HK meanwhile stays calm and collected.

"I detect a significant increase in your physical strength." HK says coolly.

"Heh, Vahlen wasn't kidding when she said this biomod was military grade!" You chuckle as you set both girls down and flex. "Feel like I can take on the world!"

HOPEFULLY IT WON'T COME TO THAT.

Artya writes as she regains her composure.

ANYWAYS, THAT'S IT. IF YOU FEEL ANY COMPLICATIONS YOU BETTER COME BACK AND SAY SOMETHING.

"Sure thing. Thanks Artya!" You grin as you give her a quick headpat and dash away laughing as Artya tries to swat your arm away.

"Where do we head to now?" HK asks.

"Let's go let the Boss know we're ready for the next job." You say as you head for the elevator.

"Affirmative." HK responds, keeping pace with you.

Upon reaching the Boss' office, you see that she's busy with paperwork, as she always seemed to be, ruffling through literal mountains of documents, which was a bit odd since most things were handled electronically these days. Perhaps she was just that old fashioned. Regardless, she notices your arrival and smiles.

"Ah, Lewis, you make up your mind?"

"Yeah, I think I'll take that consulting gig." You say as you return the folder to her.

"Ah, taking the cush job, huh?" The Boss sighs. "Not going to pay as much...."

"But at least I'll keep my bones intact." You finish.

"Haha, true!" The Boss concedes. "Anyways, it shouldn't be anything too troubling, especially for you!"

"Of course." You grin.

"Anyways, you better get going." The Boss grunts. "Hank's still in the wind and there's still so much work left to do. Don't go tarnishing our image now, okay?"

"All right, I'm heading off, then." You nod as you spin on your heel and head out the door.

Huh, now that you think about it, since it was the RCPD posting the job, maybe Lucina was involved. She's the police chief, after all. Maybe give her a heads up that you're on the way?

You briefly think about calling Lucina and giving her a heads up that you'll be one of the consultants at this little proving ground event.

But you stop and grin to yourself. It'll be a lot more fun just showing up and surprising her. You're already imagining the flustered look on her face when she realizes you were one of the people to answer her summons.

"You appear to be very eager to work on this current job." HK points out.

You glance over to her, and note HK was staring at you intently.

"What, still concerned about the other T-Dolls?" You raise an eyebrow. "We're looking at RCPD T-Dolls, HK. I don't have any intention of replacing you or anything like that."

"Affirmative." HK nods and turns her gaze out the windshield.

You're left wondering what exactly was going through HK's electronic mind right now.

Hm, maybe you should have talked to Nemo after all.

Considering that I'd expect Lucina collecting a few batches of his "gene samples" in the near future, I would assume she'd undergo a few side effects of his special genes (aside from the obvious one).

Something along the lines of after an intense night of passion and cuddling, she awakens to find herself in a much younger state and full of Magical Girl energy.
>>
>>3208211
I'm still pulling for a custom CZ.
It's distinctive, stylish, and practical all in one.
>>3209060
HCAR as our new primary.
>>3209241
Yeah no, Lucina deserves to know what she's getting into BEFORE we go that far.
>>
>>3210172
>HCAR
Really? This thing's only purpose is to tingle gunfags' history obsession.
>>
>>3210340
That was meant mostly as a joke about how ridiculously strong Lewis is with this mod. Yes, the HCAR is a stupid, terrible idea. The BAR was obsolete before WW2, and only stayed in use due to how many the military already had. Even with fancy new furniture it's a heavy bitch, with a poor magazine capacity.
But with this new biomod, Lucas could probably roll around with it like a normal man would a normal rifle.
>>
>>3210843
Lewis could probably shoulder fire a Barret now anyway.
But I think our best choice would be a small grenade launcher, like PAW, that can penetrate the target and explode inside.
>>
>>3210965
Maybe get a hold of Robert Kendo (assuming he exists in this universe), have him cook us up a mad science custom job?
>>
>>3210172
>>3209241
Not sure which would freak her out more:
>Lewis essentially being immune to biomod corruption, allowing him to stack on as many as he wants
>Lewis being able to stop time combined with his previous reputation

Maybe we could give her something to alleviate her worries if Lewis goes rogue? Maybe a weapon that could harm him, or even the playing field. I personally want to save giving her a Magic Crystal engagement ring, which could temporarily allow her to use magical girl energy, as a last resort.
>>
>>3211107
Do "failsafe" type biomods exist, for shutting down rogue agents? Something we could give Lucina the trigger for, that would cause a catostrophic shutdown of our whole system?

I mean, the BAR was always a steaming pile of crap. The HCAR just draws attention to its crappiness.
>>
>>3211301
Iirc, there was a shutdown for BOWs, but that was more like a chip in their head. Though, maybe someone could use something like the old Invader Hive Mind command structure as a reference for an organic alternative.

>>3209241
>>3211107
>Magical Girl Lucina (AKA Magical Lucy, Magical L-chan, Mystic Cop Lucina, etc.)

She better have a transformation sequence. I kinda see her in a frilly stylized police uniform armed with a magic wand/staff (shaped like a tonfa), riot shield, and magic handcuffs that she may or may not use as improvised knuckledusters.

She would punish Lewis if anyone at work found out.
>>
>>3211107
I'm expecting her to need quite some time and space away from Lewis to really think over the whole relationship deal before making a decision.

>engagement ring
Could always see if we can provide her an ability enhancing biosuit, though it may be rather unconventional to make to say the very least. Most likely involving Lewis having to cover himself in armor, and then "moult" out of it like a snake shedding its scales.
